Natural History Museums
The Ancient House Museum is housed in a Grade II listed Tudor building and features interpretive displays showcasing the local history of Thetford and Breckland. The museum's collection includes exhibits on the Celtic, Roman, Viking, and modern eras, as well as replicas of the Thetford Treasure. Visitors can explore the lives of notable local residents such as Maharajah Duleep Singh and Thomas Paine through fascinating displays and artifacts.
We absolutely loved this museum - especially the linkage to India and Punjab as this house was donated to the people of Thetford by the son of Maharaja Dileep Singh. His life itself is fascinating and worthy of an entire museum so those enthusiastic about his story will find lots to love here. The museum also has rooms of nostalgia for past eras of local history and a current exhibition of Vikings. Lovely little place (max 1 hour visit) - great for all ages. Our 6 year old had a ball and won a prize for a trail. Clean loos, lovely staff. Top tip: go for the last hour of the day and it's only £2

Superb Staff are a credit to this Museum, wonderful old building and interesting displays. Visited today 05/06/2025 in the afternoon. Will be coming to Thetford on a regular basis now on the strength of the warm reception here in the main.

What a lovely place! Really friendly and helpful staff with love for what they do. Came with the kids (7&9) and they loved it!
L R — Google review
A must visit for anybody who's in or around Thetford and likes history. Some parts of the house are really well preserved dating back to the 1400's, with a large focus on the history of Maharaja Duleep Singh. Probably only takes an hour to see and read everything, think I was there 30-45 minutes.
Andrew S — Google review
Beautiful place filled with history right in the heart of Thetford, very friendly and helpful staff.
Leonardo G — Google review
Fascinating ,lots of sikh/Punjab stuff, Thomas paine an afterthought
Malcolm W — Google review
Absolutely stunning, ancient house. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The building is beautifully restored and has so much atmosphere, I personally find it very calm and relaxing. Prices are very reasonable for what it is. It's a very important part of history for the local area and, the staff have a passion for the house that is very infectious. Of all the places to visit in Thetford, I would honestly recommend this.

Nestled in the charming town of Thetford, Norfolk, the Charles Burrell Museum is a captivating homage to steam power and its significant impact on agriculture and industry. Housed in the original paint shop of Charles Burrell & Sons, this museum showcases an impressive collection of steam traction engines, agricultural machinery, and more. Visitors can explore both static displays and interactive exhibits that highlight the legacy of over 350 skilled workers who produced nearly 4,000 steam-powered machines until 1928.
Was interesting, informative all these years I've lived in Thetford and finally went inside to have a look was nice to see and hear about the history of it. friendly staff very helpful also went in the steamers cafe upstairs good prices great service, relaxed atomospher. I just loved the smell of the steam engines if you are a fan of the dads army then you must take a look. The cafe is upstairs (no lift) just so you know. Toilets down stairs if needed
Michelle H — Google review
Worth visiting if you like the history of showman's engines. Staff ( who are volunteers) all friendly and informative. Good cafe upstairs.
Pat W — Google review
Great place to visit in the original Burrell paint shop. 3 full size traction engines and many other exhibits. My grandchildren and me loved it.Great cafe and very friendly volunteers and staff. Free entry but accept donations if you can. They are totally self funded with no grants from anyone (as far as I am aware).
Trev L — Google review

Great place to visit living history. Brilliant knowledgeable volunteers! They made it come alive and explained things to my 9 year old son on a way he would understand. Keep up the good work. Free to visit requires a donation of your choice.

Really take for granted the size and variety of walks around Thetford forest. Friday midday walk, we hardly saw anyone. Very peaceful.

We only went for a 2 mile walk.. Came across the River Ouse . Beautiful walk. Full of butterflies, dragonflies and were very lucky to see 10 Swans gracefully gliding up the river. Parked near Santon Downham.

Thetford Forest – Nature at Its Best! 🌲 Thetford Forest is an absolute gem — peaceful, vast, and full of life. Whether you’re walking, cycling, or just relaxing under the trees, it’s the perfect place to escape and recharge. The mix of pine and broadleaf woodland makes every trail feel a little different, and the air just feels fresher here. There are miles of well-marked paths, great picnic spots, and even adventure areas for kids. We loved wandering off the main trails and finding quiet clearings — Caesar was in his element, nose to the ground, tail wagging the whole time! 🐾 The visitor centre is well set up with maps, clean facilities, and a nice café for a post-walk coffee or snack. If you’re into photography, the light through the trees is stunning in the early morning or late afternoon. A brilliant day out for families, walkers, and anyone who loves the outdoors. Thetford Forest never disappoints — 5 stars all the way! 🌳✨
Craig B — Google review
Great place for nature walks or bike trails, dog walking and forest bathing 😉
Irina M — Google review
Our children had visited for Go Ape but this was our first time on the Halloween trail. As a local resident, we were thrilled to have an event that was close by. The trail was the perfect amount of spooky/scary AND interesting. It also appeared to be very wheelchair accessible. My only gripe would be lack of direction from parking to the trail entry. There were so many people wandering aimlessly around.

The Dad's Army Museum in Thetford is a delightful tribute to the beloved British TV sitcom set during World War II. The museum, located within the Old Fire Station, showcases reconstructed sets and a collection of historic artifacts, military uniforms, photographs, episode scripts, and press clippings. Visitors can explore the Church Hall, Bunker Room, and Home Guard Room before enjoying a treat at Marigolds Tea Room.
Came with my husband and 2 children aged 6 and 8. The volunteers are absolutely wonderful. Such a warm welcome and full of wonderful information. Even kept our boys entertained with dress up and finding the bear. Would highly recommend
Louise N — Google review
Visited today with our 2 children - a delightful visit! Dad’s Army has been a favourite of mine for as long as I can remember, and being able to ‘go back in time’ at the museum was brilliant. The volunteers are so helpful and friendly. Jones’ van happened to be there today, and one of the volunteers told us about the history of the van; really interesting! We stopped at the Marigold Tearoom for some cake afterwards (well recommended!). Will definitely be back, don’t panic!
Dan F — Google review
Found out about the museum recently. As a avid fan I wanted to come over and check it out. It might be small but its packed with anything and everything from cast members to filming information and locations. We definately will be coming back for a longer stay as we have enjoyed Thetford a lot and wish to spend more time here.
Kat D — Google review
I have always wanted to go here for years but finally managed it with friends. Free to enter, there are donation boxes and a gift shop and coffee shop. It was an excellent compact and bijou museum. The staff/volunteers were all very friendly and engaging. We were there for an hour or more but I didn't realise it. I spent quite a bit in the gift shop (thank you mr. Tax rebate). Fantastic day out and all the memories of the show and all the artifacts are well worth the visit. Be warned the statue of Capt. Mainwaring is by the river and the mural of Pvt. Pike is around the corner. The Charles Burrell museum halfway across the town centre has Jones van and there is a lecture/presentation. I tell you this because I asked several people and got several answers. Check opening times online. Absolutely the only reason to set foot in Thetford. Bus tours available for the filming locations. May go again next year.
Mike ( — Google review
I took my dad on the coach tour and it was such a wonderful day. We learned a lot about the beautiful local area as well as dad enjoying anecdotes about the show. All from a very cool vintage 50s coach. The tour ended with tea and scones back at the museum cafe and a look at the exhibition. Entirely volunteer run and they were all so lovely. They also kindly sourced vegan cake for me. Wholeheartedly recommend.
Sara M — Google review
Fabulous visit... went on bus tour which was very informative on the production of the show and other interesting landmarks and knowledge of the local area.

High Lodge is a nature lover's paradise located in the national forest. It offers a wide range of activities for visitors, including play areas, cycling and walking trails, and a tree canopy adventure course. The site features the original GoApe treetop adventure complex and a visitor center where you can hire a barbecue for a unique outdoor experience. Families can enjoy the flat mile-long High Lodge Nature Trail with various activities and information boards along the way.
Really lovely forest park. The kids love it here and gets them away from the screens. The facilities are first class and it also has a rather excellent cafe. Check parking before travelling but highly recommended day out for walkers or cycles. The go ape facilities are also brilliant but chargeable separately.
Miguel R — Google review
Great place, hired bikes at the store on site and the whole family loved it. Great for kids and adults, playground and adventure trails in the beautiful Thetford forest. Didn't have chance to visit the Cafe on site but looked very nice....the parking fair could be reduced a bit for people hiring bikes or visiting GOApe ( we spent over £80 on bike hire and £15 in parking fee ) but the facilities are all well kept so it is just my opinion not a criticism.
David M — Google review
What a magical place! There is so much to do! Stations, GO APE, playgrounds, Walks. The small kids and grown kids had a great time! If your looking for an active day out, this is a great and non-expensive option. We did pick up some rubbish... people, please do better! 🚮
Hannah D — Google review
We visited High Lodge today for the second time within the last month. It’s a great place, especially for kids, and well worth the cost of parking. It was a busy day, but we were still able to find a table for a simple and small birthday celebration. Although there is plenty to do without paying for the additional Go Ape activities. If you do want to participate in the Go Ape activities then I recommend booking ahead to ensure a spot. The cafe is a little expensive; however, it’s comparable to similar types of places. Also, be warned that cell service is pretty bad (even using their WiFi) and plan ahead.
Sommer L — Google review
We stopped here for lunch on a long drive. The play parks were great for all ages and offered a brilliant variety of park paraphernalia. Despite it being a bin free site there was barely any rubbish and both the parks and forest were really well maintained. Ginormous teepee slide (pictured) was a highlight for all my kids!
Andy L — Google review
Very nice Forrest! Great for picnic, birthday parties outside (when warm), cycling and walks. Plenty to do for a family. I believe to have seen bike rentals there too, and BBQ stands.
Adenis R — Google review
I took my grandson to the halloween light trail, the staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was easy. He had a great time o the rides, and the trains brilliant.
Margaret P — Google review
Nice area for sports (cycling, Go Ape, archery). Lots of play areas for children, zip line, sound garden, walking trails. Cafe and food to go take away. Could do with better maps/marked trails for sound garden, gruffalo etc, you don't know what's there unless you come across it randomly! Parking is expensive, no concession for disability. Cafe as you'd expect. Would love to see more childrens activities/wildlife stuff even only at weekends /holidays.

English Heritage - Thetford Priory is a remarkable 12th-century ruin of a Cluniac Priory located in Thetford. The extensive ruins include the great Cathedral of St Mary, the Cluniac priory, the Benedictine Nunnery of St George, and other ecclesiastical foundations.
Absolutely beautiful ruins. Worth a visit just for the photoshoot of your dog! Huge open spaces that feel very safe and enclosed so dog walkers should feel very happy. We ate a picnic in the old chapter house - please make sure to take rubbish with you as some inconsiderate people had left theirs behind! 🤬 but the daisies flowering everywhere lent this place a magical quality and the information boards were very interesting. The parking is free and there’s no cost to enter. If you’re not from the area, it is down a random back road and you’ll feel like you’re going into an odd turning but then it just appears! Lovely couple of hours spent wandering around.
James V — Google review
Free to enter and beautifully peaceful, this an extensive abbey ruin with quite a lot to see. It would be 5 stars but there is a lot of temporary fencing round large sections. Leads straight onto the river walk.
Tim S — Google review
Extensive and atmospheric ruins, partly spoiled by so many metal fences sealing some areas off. The gatehouse is not able to be visited, and the Priors Lodgings is shoeing clear signs of vandalism Why are we so bad at looking after our Heritage? The consecutive government's are not giving English Heritage enough support. People do not visit this country in their millions to look at the government's poorly built new builds As our prime minister is so fond of saying, get a grip and help out Heritage sites out, before they crumble further
Adrian P — Google review
Thetford was Founded in the early 12th century. The surviving remains include the lower walls of the church and cloister, and an almost complete 14th century gatehouse. It's ruins are very impressive covering a large area. Entrance is free and open all year round.
Eddie R — Google review
Beautiful old ruins, lots of interesting lithophytes growing in the rocks. Park on the opposite side of the road in the shopping area and go under the road via the little tunnel. Free entry.
Ben B — Google review
For me this site of ruins was great to explore. Not much interpretation, just a few boards and labels in some rooms saying cellar etc. Mainly you need your imagination and good weather to enjoy these. They cover an extensive area, There is a free car park, but no other facilities on site. You can walk into Thetford though for such things.
Nicky H — Google review
Very nice place to visit, small car park available and the site is well maintained. There are also several notice board to tell you about what your seeing. So for a free place to visit it is well worth a stop. The lost star is for the fact you can't access the old gate house as mentioned on the signs as it's through a private garden and the gate was locked. I did email both the council and English Heritage about this but both ignored me.

Historical landmark
Thetford Castle Mound is a historic site in Thetford, England, dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The castle was largely destroyed in 1173, but the impressive motte, one of the largest in England at over 12 meters tall, still stands. Referred to as Castle Hill or Military Parade as well, it offers a challenging climb with its 90 steps but rewards visitors with stunning views from the top.
Fantastic piece of greenery in the middle on Thetford with some real historical importance. If you are feeling strong you can even climb up the stairs to the top of the mound.
Ralph T — Google review
Castle Mound in Thetford offers a pleasant walking route, perfect for a casual wander. Castle Mound is essentially just a large hill, it provides a good spot for a walk and offers great views from the top. It might not be the most exciting destination, but it's worth a visit if you're in Thetford and looking to conquer somthing.

Located in Thetford Forest, Go Ape Thetford is an adventure-lover's paradise. This treetop rope course offers two options: the daring Tree Top Challenge for thrill-seekers aged 10 and up, and the more gentle Tree Top Adventure suitable for younger children or those seeking a less intense experience. Both courses feature climbs, ropes, tree crossings, and an exhilarating zip-wire ride at the end.
What a wonderful day, we were greeted by the wonderful Josh T for our safety training brief. Josh is such a friendly happy chap who explained everything perfectly. I would also like to thank him for assisting me, when I ran out of energy whilst climbing the net. He professionally offered me vocal support ,whilst pulling me up to the platform. I'm so very grateful to him, he gave me the confidence to continue.

The Challenge Plus experience at Thetford Go Ape is absolutely fantastic! Everything from booking to arrival to completing the course was brilliant and definitely value for money! The team at Go Ape were really friendly, welcoming and helpful with all the aspects of the experience, the course itself lives up to its name with a great variety of obstacles and challenges to overcome - I’d highly recommend a pair of gloves as you’re grabbing onto rope and wires for 3hrs straight. Our instructor was really knowledgable and ensured we knew exactly how to stay safe the whole way round. Overall, I really recommend this activity and will definitely be returning soon!
Liamjkp — Google review
Aged 69, (fairly fit,) I took my 2 granddaughters aged 9 and 7 on the Treetop Adventure Plus but was not fully confident that I'd cope. I needn't have worried because the session was well-ol planned and the preparation carried out with great clarity and professionalism. We all had a totally awesome day, although I won't deny that it's physically challenging!
Elaine H — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience, went with my friend and our 2 daughters aged 10 and 13 on the treetop challenge and had such a fantastic time! Wonderful staff who took their time with the setup and the “training sessions”, we spent about 2.5-3 hours on the course. Great setup and design, it’s quite challenging and high but should be suitable for most “active kids”. We will definitely come again, highly recommended!!
Helene G — Google review
Our instructor Phil, was amazing was patient with the late people in our group then was very informative on how to ensure our safety while doing the Challenge Plus Go Ape course. We had a chuckle at his one liner jokes also which calmed nerves. Thank you Phil for showing us the ropes 😆 we had an amazing day.

We were incredibly lucky to have just the two of us on the Segway experience. Our instructor Evan was really knowledgeable and great fun. The trails were really laid out well and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Will definitely do it again!
Ceri T — Google review
From the minute we got there we were looked after. The safety equipment was put on, checked, and we were given the safety announcements. We were ready to tackle the sundowner After Dark Treetop Adventure 👌🏻 We zip lined, we tree climbed, we traversed wobbly obstacles from extreme height, we got rained on, the course was slippery, but still safe. We got muddy, we navigated Thetford Forest like true bosses in the sky It was so much fun in the dark with all the beautiful lights, Would definitely recommend! 😍 DURATION was nearly 2 hours of craziness. Downside... the parking is pricey here.. almost £10 so do budget that in.

Castle Park, situated just off Castle Street, is a grassy park featuring a playground and one of the largest man-made Earthworks in East Anglia. The park offers visitors the opportunity to explore historical motte-and-bailey castle remnants while enjoying lovely views from the top. Recent renovations have enhanced the park with added fitness equipment and improved facilities, making it an ideal place for both relaxation and recreation. Visitors can also appreciate the stunning panoramic views after climbing 90 steps to reach the top.
A lot to do for children. Huge area for picnics, play area, outdoor gym or can challenge themselves and claim up the castle hill (stairs built on side). Also got very friendly sheeps there. Play area does scream for upgrade, and skateboard like activity been broken for long time now. However there's plenty of other things to do and it's a nice pit stop to have cuppa.
Inese — Google review
It is lovely space to bring kids under age of 12, or for a little outdoor gym session. Would be nice to have more benches and maybe some picnic tables. Watching grazing sheep is very nice and sunsets from actual castle hill are beautiful.
Irina M — Google review
It's a bit overgrown at the top of the steps, to see in all directions, and the short circular walk around the top couldn't be completed as one side had weeds, nettles and long grass preventing me passing it. Plenty of benches in the park to rest on. Clean toilets and baby change nearby proved useful.
Katherine T — Google review
Very nice park. Great for family to play about. Nice children’s play areas. Spacious and lots of space for different activities. That’s my mum with our last child attending fun fair on the other side. Well kept and highly recommended.
Fasakin O — Google review
The public toilet was unusable because of its unclean state. The play area was very good with lots to keep both little and big children happy.

Great views, well worth the climb. If I'm honest. I climbed it as a kid, many many years before the staircase was installed. But still enjoyable, probably more so. As I'm older and not as agile as I once was. I would say, we both commented, they need 4 or benches or leaning bars, instead of maybe sitting on damp grass.

Lovely place walk and relax! The steps make it much easier to get to the top!🏞️ The park has been done up since I last visited which looks great and they've added fitness equipment💪🏻 the toilets are clean, cleaner than I expected for a public bathroom🚽 the only negative was all the bins were over full, and stupid people were dumping it on the floor next to them (and not taking it home🤦🏻‍♂️)

Butten Island Thetford is a serene and picturesque spot, featuring an equestrian statue of Duleep Singh, the last Sikh ruler of the Punjab. The island offers a tranquil environment for walking, picnicking, and wildlife watching. Visitors can also enjoy a quaint cafe with ample seating. Recent tree clearances have improved river views, making it an ideal place to unwind and appreciate nature.

The Mulberry is a charming restaurant located on the edge of Thetford Forest, offering an intimate dining experience with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It has been highly rated for its modern British cuisine with a European twist, featuring Mediterranean-style dishes and high-quality meats. The restaurant's main dining room leads to a lovely conservatory overlooking a walled garden with a mulberry tree.
Absolutely perfect place, the food is amazing and the staff are fantastic. I had only recently complained to my wife that I hadn't found a place that does a good pork chop in over a decade, I saw it on the menu and was blown away, pork chop with peaches and gorgonzola was an absolute revelation. If you are visiting the area or staying at centre parks take the time out to go and visit this place you won't be dissapointed.

One of the best restaurants in Britain! Super friendly staff who greet you with a complimentary drink and bread with oil while you're waiting for food to arrive. The ambience is very pleasant and relaxing with soft music. The menu is great and is being updated depending on the season. Highly recommend prawn starter with watermelon and feta. Cheesecake was super yummy too. No parking, but it's a 5min walk from free car park - Pike Lane. You definitely need to book a table as the staff care about great service and won't admit walk-ins if they're busy. Garden could do with some TLC, but apart from that, nothing one can possibly complain about. Can't recommend it enough:)

We had a wonderful meal. The food was delicious and tasty. We felt so spoiled with the service. The owner Karen was friendly, kind and informative. The food from her chef was flavorful, and seasoned to perfection . We had a four course meal to include appetizers through dessert. I would highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. The food prices were well priced and matched the outstanding service.

Another wonderful evening at the Mulberry we always make time to dine while in Thetford. Started with the calamari and the blacken prawns. The calamari were crispy sweet and tender enhanced with the lemon aioli. Prawns nicely seasoned with the perfect level of heat. On to mains, duck confit -soft fork-tender succulent meat, crisp skin and a lovely rich red wine sauce to complement. Superb presentation of rock bass with a lovely butter sauce and beautiful vegetables. All enhanced with a nice bottle Portuguese red and Karen’s attentive service. Highly recommended!

The Bell Hotel, located in Thetford, Norfolk, is a charming historic wedding venue set in a 15th-century coaching inn. This enchanting hotel offers classic rooms and modern interiors for a memorable stay. Situated in the heart of Thetford, The Bell provides warm hospitality and is known for its excellent services and proximity to local attractions and restaurants.
I stayed at the Bell for 4 nights and it was a great experience. If you are looking super modern, then this is not for you. The hotel maybe old but it has character and a warm friendly feel. The thing that makes this hotel 5* is the staff. Every single person was friendly, helpful and professional. Whoever manages this team is doing a great job. Food is amazing.....plentiful and very well priced. The Steak Night on Thursday is a bargain. Breakfast, you are greeted with a smile and plentiful cooked breakfast to keep you going all day. Rooms are comfortable and practical.....with iron and ironing board, tea and coffee. Serviced daily. I would definitely come back here again.

My husband & I recently stayed at the Bell for 1 night. The room was really nice, spacious & very clean. Plenty of space for clothes, hairdryer, & iron/ironing board. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom was always lovely & warm due to the heated towel rail. Plenty of room for toiletries & something I don’t always see - hooks on the back of the door for hanging clothes! Nice view of the river. Breakfast was very good & good choice. Staff friendly & helpful. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

Visited this place over the weekend with family for a wedding. Not only were the rooms damp and had a musky smell my son’s food was forgotten and then when brought out still RAW! 9 people from the wedding have now come down ill. Terrible customer service 2 people between the wedding and the main restaurant/ Bar.
Steph B — Google review
The staff are absolutely lovely. My criticism is to the hotel, not the people who work there. The rooms are a delightful trip back in time to the early (and darker) parts of 1976. Single glazing, tv the size of a postage stamp, old tired curtains, worn carpets, desperately in need of a lick of paint, dated mixer showers, and furniture that belongs on old episodes of the Antiques Roadshow. In fact, I'm sure the value of the furniture probably increased in value while I was there. Lovely building that desperately needs Greene King to spend money on it. That said, the rooms were very clean and well kept. USB sockets, wireless charging pads, flat screen 50", headboards that don't bang around every time you move slightly in bed would be a bloody good start. Again, the staff were lovely, especially Jade. Embodied the service with a smile attitude 😊

We went to the restaurant and were served by Meg and Madison. They were helpful, friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It was a lovely experience, lovely food and great value. I can't really rate this venue as I didn't eat or drink here despite it being a baking hot day so I was dying for a drink and starving. Located in Thetford, DOUGH&co Woodfired Pizza offers a comforting Italian dining experience with its authentic wood-fired pizzas and other delectable options. The restaurant prides itself on sourcing ingredients from Italy and having them freshly prepared by Italian chefs. The menu also features pasta, flatbread, desserts, and drinks to complement the pizza selection.
The pizza was amazing!!! It was doughy and light and the mozzarella wasn't too stringy. The inside is very clean and the style of the place is industrial looking. You could even see the pizza oven. There were only two waitresses at the time and day we went (Wednesday at 19:00) however, they were fast at serving us and extremely nice/friendly. The atmosphere was good and they played music in the background. I definitely recommend this place to eat!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The pizza was delicious! The burgers hit the spot after an afternoon spent at the fair. It did take a bit longer to receive our food than I expected given that there were only 3 other tables of people in the whole restaurant. It took over a half hour.

Lovely food, Clean restaurant and good service. What more can you ask for. About time Thetford had somewhere decent to take the kids to eat. Updated. . .ordered a few times from here since and every time the pizza is very under cooked . The cheese isn't melted as if the dough was cooked then ingredients chucked on top after. Put this down to a bad experience once but this has Now happened 3 times. Changing from 5 stars to 3 Potential to be great but shouldn't be letting pizza go out so under cooked . Kids wouldn't eat the last lot we ordered.
Tim W — Google review
This place was wonderful. Very cute interior with friendly and competent staff. Wonderful atmosphere. We started with the garlic bread which was delicious. We then ordered our mains which for me was the BBQ Pulled Pork Flatbread and my partner ordered Very Spicy pizza. The bbq pulled pork was the best thing I’ve eaten in forever. The flavoring was amazing and the pork was cooked perfectly. My partner enjoyed the spicy pizza but it wasn’t as spicy as he was anticipating. We finished the night off with their doughnuts with strawberries which were absolutely delicious. 10/10 would recommend. Definitely will be going there again.

DO NOT USE We called at 5.30 to enquire delivery times and confirm delivery could be made . Order placed at 6.10pm and waited 3 hrs for a delivery of 5 cold pizzas ! 1 was raw , 1 was cremated and inedible and the other three were missing most of the ingredients. We called 3 times whilst waiting and we’re constantly lied to about where our order was . Diabolical
Shelley F — Google review
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try the food so cannot comment on that. Ordering through the website is a mission in itself. Good luck staying patient! Don’t order online!! I had ordered take away and went to collect, upon arrival I was told that the wait would be over an hour (despite my email advising 45 min wait), therefore, an hour and 45 wait in total! A table of 4 were complaining for having to wait for 40 minutes for their drinks! I noticed many tables of customers not actually eating. Whilst standing watching the pizza chef stress out, clearly not able to cope with the orders, I decided to cancel my order but was told by the manager that she will TRY to push the order through. Try being the operative word! Whilst waiting for the manager I noticed she was now taking orders?? Did she not want to tell me if she fast tracked my Pizzas?? Or do I just stand there whilst she bought herself time?? I asked a young lady to cancel the order but was advised that as it was an online order it could not be cancelled. She directed me to another chap.. Steve (i was advised he was the Bury St Edmunds manager who was working in the Thetford branch, who was very understanding and helpful) offered to give me a credit and when I ordered next time, advised that my order of the same value plus two beverages will be given in lieu of not collecting my order today. I am hoping that Dough&Co will honour this agreement when I order next time. Steve left my ticket behind the desk in anticipation of me ordering next time….. let’s see if doesn’t get thrown away by the cleaners!

Legends of Motown. Band was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the music, would have been a lot better if there was space to dance. Unfortunately the tables occupied the dance floor. Although the music was good the evening was cut very short just as it was livening up by the very early finish. The band packed up and the bar shut by 9:45 which is way to early to finish a night out. A lot of money for less than 2 hours entertainment..

Our children attend swimming lessons here and we attend as a family to swim at leisure too. The staff are always polite and helpful! There are 3 pools, the wave/current pool, teaching pool and the lane pool. There is a flume too. A seating area near the wave pool and stairs up to further seating. There is a coffee machine and vending machines with drinks and food. There are lots of lockers 10p and £1 which return your money when you return the key. Plenty of family changing and single changing rooms. There is a accessible changing room with a toilet, bed and sink, I think there is a shower in there too, though I can't remember. There is seating around the lane pool and a spectators area. Communal showers to rinse before and after plus 2 that have a cubicle around them. There is a gym here too, I don't know anything about that 😂 there is also several clubs that take place here and a VR experience.

I took my family to Breckland Leisure Centre & Waterworld this morning, driving an hour to get there for a last bit of fun before school starts. Before setting off, I even tried calling to confirm the flume was open, but nobody answered the phone. When we arrived, we found the flume and jacuzzi closed without any notice. Staff on site couldn’t explain why. It feels misleading to call it “Waterworld” when the main attractions are shut, yet we were still charged full entry price without telling the customer, which isn’t cheap. Very disappointing experience — Not Recommend.

my daughter attends swimming lessons with Jake. Since joining breckland and having Jake as her teacher she has excelled with her techniques. We booked one private 1:1 session with Jake just to finalise her abilities of two strokes and after a 25 minute session she achieved everything we wanted. I cannot recommend Jake enough and Breckland leisure. All the staff are amazingly helpful and the wet side facilities are practical and clean.

Been few times now and starting to look very tired. Changing rooms especially looking dirty and in need of upgrades. Pool area ok just felt like needed maintenance with rusting seats and empty planters and main leisure pool very heavy on chlorine. Great value for money with family ticket £24 and kids love the flume, wave machine and rapids. Would go again but needs investment by council
Stephen A — Google review
First time we went everything was open apart from the jacuzzi. Second time we went (10th May 2.30pm) the jacuzzi was closed, fountain was closed and the flumes were closed. Short staffed apparently but we had rung the day before to check things would be open (it's a reasonable drive for us to get there). Wave machine is fun though.

Used this swimming pool on Tuesday 8th July 2025 for a one off lane swim in the early morning before my holiday - had to book a lane and time slot (and pay in advance) staff where welcoming and locals were chatty - great way to start a holiday and before a cooked breakfast - it is a big centre - it was a bout a 10 minute walk from where I was staying

Grime's Graves is a hidden gem, with brown signs leading to a single track road and an uneven car park. The site features informative exhibitions, a visitor center, and a shop offering English Heritage items. Visitors can explore the Neolithic flint mine, descending 9 meters below ground. However, it's important to note that children under 7 are not allowed in the mine shaft.
Well set up exhibition going through the geology and history of the neolithic flint mines. The small museum and shop are worth a visit too. Tickets are cheaper if booked in advance.

Worth a visit on a boiling hot day....its cooler underground! Good exhibition and gift shop, friendly staff and well supervised descent to Pit 1. It's a pity the other Pits aren't accessable (underground) as well as the rest of the site is a bit thin on interest!
Murray P — Google review
Really interesting and unique site. You can go down into pit 1 via a ladder and kind of crawl into the tunnels and it's quite fun, very messy with the chalk. If you need flat land/wheelchair accessible, this isn't the place. The terrain is very rough and bumpy and to access pit 1 you need to be able to use a ladder. You would only be able to go into the exhibition room.
Kali — Google review
The site is fascinating. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, and they made the history of the flint mines easy to understand, even for younger visitors. Climbing down into the mine was definitely the highlight, the kids thought it was an adventure, and it gave us all a real sense of how incredible the Neolithic miners’ work must have been. The outdoor space is also great for exploring and running around, which made it a perfect balance of learning and fun.

Thetford Warren Lodge is a striking 15th-century stone towerhouse nestled in lush surroundings, originally built to accommodate hunting parties. The lodge, located two miles west of Thetford, is a two-storey structure made of flint with stone dressings. Visitors can explore the lodge daily from 9am to 5pm for free. The site has an eerie atmosphere, with stories of encounters with ghostly figures adding to its mystique.

Nice little area with a sandy carpark. The track leading in is pretty rutted and rough. No facilities or visitor centre here, visit the main Thetford Forest carpark up the road for that. The warran lodge is interesting to see and the path links to to the circular walking and cycling routes throughout the forest. You can access the "Fir" walking trail and the "long loop" of the blue graded cycling trail.

Great little place to explore, and lovely long trails can be accessed around it. The Fir Trail leads back to High Lodge (5-6) miles away

This is quite an extraordinary place, rich in history and surrounded by an incredible forest. A great place to go for a long or short walk. I was here doing some research and a little performance. It is easy to get to and has a car park. The lodge itself is not accessible, though you can still see the inside through black metal bars. There is a legend that a large human size white rabbit guards the entrance of the doorway, with red flaming eyes. Popular with hikers and dog walkers.
Spike M — Google review
This interesting English Heritage lodge was probably built about 1400 by the prior of Our Lady’s Priory, Thetford as the home of the warrener. Free off road parking for about 20 cars and no site entrance fee. Is directly adjacent to the Thetford Golf Club. Access road and parking itself is riddled with potholes so take care. No toilets and no food/tea. Not wheelchair friendly. Great place for dog walkers BUT be aware there is more dog poo around than any other local site I have visited. Also, what's with hanging the dog poo bags on the trees - there is no dog poo fairy that makes them disappear :-( Direct access to Thetford forest. From this point the Beech walking route can accessed which is a 4.5 mile circular route and goes via High Lodge. Numerous smaller walking trails can be accessed from here. Warning: there is a tale told of a HUGE white rabbit with flaming red eyes who guards the doorway to the lodge. It is said to be an omen of death to anyone who lays eyes on it. If this review is helpful please press like.

The town features several themed trails, such as the Heritage Trail, Dad's Army Trail, Thomas Paine Trail, and Duleep Singh Trail. While unable to visit the museum, there was an opportunity to view the Maharaja Duleep Singh Memorial Statue. However, it was disheartening to witness some teenagers disrespecting this religious symbol by smoking nearby. It is crucial for proper management to be in place in order to prevent such incidents from occurring.

It's worth visiting this place. Memories of Maharaja Duleep Singh
Ranveer S — Google review
He was placed in power in September 1843, at the age of five, with his mother ruling on his behalf, and after their defeat in the anglo sikh war. He was subsequently deposed by the british and thereafter exiled to Britain at age 15 where he was befriended by queen Victoria, who is reported to have written of the Punjabi Maharaja: "Those eyes and those teeth are too beautiful". The Queen was godmother to several of his children. He died at 55, living most of his final years in the uk His mother had effectively ruled when he was very young and he managed to meet her again on 16 January 1861, in calcutta and return with her to the United Kingdom. During the last two years of her life, his mother told the Maharaja about his Sikh heritage and the Empire which once had been his to rue. (The above taken from wikipedia) Nice to see this monument but also sad, as reminder of the cruelty of the British Empire.(There may be an apology within the next 100 years) Never forget🙏

Fantastic majestic statue of the last Maharajah of the Punjab, Duleep Singh. Definitely worth a visit!

I didn't get chance to see museum but i saw the statue. But m little bit upset because there were some teenager who were smoking near our religious symbol and statue. They were disrespected our symbol indirectly. There should be proper management.

Lynford Arboretum, located in Thetford Forest, is a charming destination that offers beautiful scenery throughout the year. In spring, visitors can enjoy a carpet of lovely flowers, while autumn showcases a riot of vibrant trees. The arboretum boasts notable features like a double rowed avenue of sequoias planted as a tribute to the Duke of Wellington in the 1800s. Additionally, there is a serene lake where one might catch glimpses of kingfishers.
Looks like an amazing place ! We had a short walk as I and another friend use walking sticks . All the trees have a small plaque on them saying what they are which was a good idea. There was a very nice shepherds hut cafe with seats and a huge awning for shelter .
Lyndsay P — Google review
Walking around the arboretum is lovely! The dogs love going there and there are lots of different routes to take. Parking is free and you can access the lake on the other side for water sports. Lots of the paths around are accessible, but in other places you would struggle with a wheelchair or pushchair. Great for bird spotting and there is a pair of swans nesting in the pond near the bridge

Beautiful arboretum with a lot of birds to watch and wildlife (if you're quiet). I did a circular walk around the lake. It's an easy route, very peaceful in early January. There's a little hut selling refreshments & bonus a large free car park.
Frederique O — Google review
Lovely place to go for a walk, anytime of the year. Short or longer walks available to do as well.
Charlotte F — Google review
I've been twice recently to Lynford and it's a lovely place - but the first time was a bit rocky... I've not walked down to the lake (left side of the road). I visited with my Mum. She's disabled and a wheelchair user (but does have a scooter on occasions). I decided we would have a little walk and a coffee at the hut on the way back from a trip out. It had disabled spaces, the parking is free and I thought that was a sign it was disabled friendly. No - it's really not. The pathways are ballast stone and are not hardcore making it extremely hard to push someone and very unsettling for the disabled individual. The trees were lovely and the walk we did (small walk to the water tower and back) was pretty. Her scooter may have been better but the arboretum side was not for wheelchair users. I visited last weekend with my children and they loved it. We walked again the same area and further on and around. It was very pretty, lots of trees to tick off in the eye spy book and it wasn't too busy for them to run around. The colours are so nice this time of year. The cafe is good - Gluten free cakes, nice tea, what's not to like!! I think overall it needs maybe a few more signs (trail signs seem to suggest routes/ view points/sculptures that are no longer there) and the pathways should be given some attention for disabled visitors.

Fabulous, so pretty, lovely walks through the trees one side and the lake the other side ( which we will explore more next time) plenty of parking and nice cafe one site. The lost star is because it shows walks on a board but then there are no markers to keep you on track. It's all guess work. Coloured dots on trees or some posts would be a great help.
Bev B — Google review
Great free facility and fantastic to be in touch with nature. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that if you go off-piste and leave the path to tread into deep leaf litter, you run the risk of treading in something horrible left by a careless dog!! There's a very very good cafe on-site with luxurious chairs - well worth a visit. There are toilets.
Bentley — Google review
Pleasent wooded area but nothing too special. Having said that, we visited a bit early to get the full display of tree colour.

The Desert Rats Memorial is a hidden gem that offers a serene escape for those exploring the area. Nestled in a tranquil forest, this memorial honors the brave soldiers of the Desert Rats Tank Regiment from World War II. Visitors can enjoy peaceful woodland walks, making it an ideal spot for dog owners and families alike.
A second world war memorial for the Desert Rats Tank Regiment, a loverly quiet place in the forest with great history and wonderful museum, unfortunately it wasn't open when I went but just check the opening times and be awestruck.

Great memorial. I believe that you can park up and go for a walk.
Dan N — Google review
For me, it was worth a quick stop when going around the area and my dog could stretch his legs. The is parking on the 1st left as you go past the memorial and trails if you walk further down before the caravan club park. Further down in the entrance road on the left are a couple of WW2 huts as some sort of museum, but it was closed. I had a good walk with the dog and then left. It felt underappreciated considering the history of the place.

We were brought here to Geocache and really thought the memorial and info boards were really interesting. The woodland walks were fun, peaceful and pram friendly.
Mark D — Google review
Great memorial 😊 I've wanted to see this for a long time now so I'm glad I've finally managed to see it
Dave G — Google review
It was closed, very small , just two Nissan huts. , not worth travelling the distance I did. But in a lovely wooded area. With the tank at the entrance I thought it would be outstanding.
Vanessa S — Google review
Good place to stop for a break in a car or motorcycle..there a smallish walking area which leads to a holiday park ..but for those interested in tanks of the British forces of the second world war .. this is a good example of one..if you visit take a look and take time to remember those who gave there lives for there country.

Lovely place to walk your dog, fly your model planes or just for a picnic. Approximately 2 full sized football pitches long and 5 wide. A massive area with a carpark and a beautiful nature reserve that it backs onto. The reserve is accessible to the public. A must for all families.

Mesmerising place! The trees are stunning, the open space gives you an overwhelming sense of peace. 10/10!

I've spent my childhood and up until now visiting and enjoying Barham common and including Barnham river where we all swam in 50 years ago. Great memories and a lovely place to walk the dogs
Leigh S — Google review
Amazing place!! Great for dogs! Now especially that the arrested teenagers aren't burning the forest down unlike 2019 or so. However, lot's of space for sports and fun. The only problem is that kids from Year 7 or Year 8 sit on a smelly mattress and smoke weed in the thorns and nettles probably from Pine Close because that's where the action comes from.
Franek K — Google review
Band playing rock, food and a bar, and lots of lovely classic bikes and cars. Trucks too. Stalls and fun things for the kids. Great day out.
Jim S — Google review
Great open area for dogs to run around. Also a great area for moles!
David P — Google review
A lovely place, considering the town it's part of. There is a large, double paying field and wild commons on both sides of the road, each with a different ecology due to spoil pH. The biggest complaint, and what spoils it, is people who think their dogs are oh so well behaved yet the dogs don't respond, AT ALL, to their master's calls and trip up joggers and small children while ignoring their master's calls to come back. Then they let their dogs mess everywhere, and I mean everywhere, and don't pick it up so community football can no longer be played and you play hopscotch to avoid it.
Ritch E — Google review
A lovely local area to walk we like to visit here with the kids as there are path ways and also our pushchair managed the bumpy track pretty well. There's car parking adjacent which is handy and located near a petrol station too. Sometimes there are sheep grazing in the fields which my youngest loves. I have 3 children ranging from 11 to 1 and they all love visiting here. As the love climbing the 'hills ' and running up and down them. The only slight negative is that some dog walkers do not double check that people are ok with unleashed dogs approaching them and I only say this as sometimes this upsets my middle and youngest. But otherwise a really lovely place to visit, especially as we don't too often meet too many people so social distancing is easy to maintain.
