Nestled in the heart of King's Lynn, the King's Lynn Minster, originally known as St. Margaret's Church, is a stunning example of royal-Gothic architecture that dates back to its founding by Bishop Herbert de Losinga in 1101. This magnificent structure showcases elements from the 12th to 15th centuries and features a unique C17 Tide Clock along with some of England's largest medieval merchant memorial brasses.
Redesignated as King's Lynn Minister in 2011 it is a huge and striking structure and I'd recommend getting the guide book which is full of useful information. Do look for St Margaret in the south aisle stained glass window - holding a church with a dragon at her feet. The ornate reredos is most impressive, over 27 feet high.

King's Lynn is a lovely place to visit with so much history all within a few minutes walk of each other. The Minster is right next to a small car park, also with bike racks. It's a nice cycle ride from the CCC along route 1 about 8 miles, but the scenery is nice.

Wonderful big building on the Saturday market. Formerly known as St. Margaret’s, The Minster is one of the largest buildings in the town and dominates the area. The interior is just as imposing. All that you would expect, with lots of original features. The stained glass and the floor tiling are particularly outstanding. I came here for a Scout event we were made to feel very comfortable, the staff were so friendly and helpful
Stuart D — Google review
St Margaret's Church, now the Minster, is a beautiful building worthy of time and exploration both inside and outside. The stained glass windows are stunning, as is the intricate carving throughout. The gardens are beautifully presented, too. There's always something going on here from regular services, weddings, and christenings to music and literary events, social gatherings, and coffee and cake. There's a short-term car park on the Saturday Market Place and a couple of nearby long-term car parks to. The church is accessible. "The Minster is situated in the historic surroundings of the Saturday Market Place in the heart of King’s Lynn. Founded by the first Bishop of Norwich, Herbert de Losinga, in 1101, the Minster has offered a welcome to pilgrims and visitors for over 900 years. The Minster is open for private prayer and visitors every day from: 8:30am – 6pm Parish Eucharist takes place on Sundays at 10 am, followed by Choral Evensong at 5pm. Please see our Worship page for more details of our other Sunday and midweek services. Our Morning Prayer is streamed on Facebook at the following times: Monday – Saturday, 8:30am"

A lovely place to walk around. Stained glass windows are beautiful. Very helpful ladies who answered any questions we had. We lit a candle and signed the condolence book for the Queen There is parking outside bit you have to pay, this includes blue badge parking. Free entry to Minster.
Emma W — Google review
Fabulous church and lovely to see it being put to alternate use. The new structure within the church is sympathetically done.
Lindsay C — Google review
Visited this beautiful church in the late afternoon while exploring King's Lynn's historic quarter. It dates from the 12th century, when it was attached to a priory, but has only been a Minster since 2011. The interior of the church was very peaceful and calming, and there was a wonderful sense of so much history all around me. Was particularly impressed with the abundance of skilful wood carving down the centuries, on the medieval misericords, 18th century pulpit and elaborate Victorian gilded screen behind the altar. Some very interesting centuries-old memorials and beautiful stained glass. The Minster is free to enter and there's plenty of parking space around it. Well worth spending some quiet time here.

Lynn Museum, located in a former Union Baptist Chapel and schoolroom near the town's bus station, offers an immersive journey into the history of West Norfolk. The museum is renowned for housing the famous Seahenge, a Bronze Age timber circle that serves as its stunning centerpiece. Visitors can delve into the craftsmanship of these ancient timbers and explore a wide array of exhibits, interactive displays, and audio guides suitable for all ages.
Great little museum housed in an old church. Here for the seahenge exhibition - fascinating stuff. Staff friendly and highly informative on the history of Kings Lynn. Recommend a visit, well worth the (modest) price

Neat little museum, currently exhibiting seahenge, a few bits on local history, and Star Wars toys. Takes about an hour to see everything, and it's currently free to enter. Very close to the bus station, and a small car park is nearby. Definitely worth a look if you're in the area.

It was set out nice, but when I went there ,Some staff quite frankly didn't really speak!!!, and were! too busy chatting with each other!!! Which was a shame as I didn't find them very approachable 🙄, But hopefully when I go again, it will be better,

King's Lynn Museum is a charming museum located in the heart of King's Lynn in Norfolk, England. UK The museum's collection tells the story of the town's history, from its earliest days to the present. The museum is divided into several galleries, each of which showcases different aspects of King's Lynn's past. One of the highlights of the museum is the interactive exhibit on the town's trade and industry, which includes a replica of a medieval merchant's house and displays of historic tools and machinery. The museum also has a collection of artworks, including paintings and sculptures by local artists. The artworks showcase the town's rich artistic heritage and give visitors a glimpse into the cultural life of King's Lynn. Another highlight of the museum is the recreated Victorian chemist's shop. Visitors can step back in time and see what it was like to buy medicines and remedies in the 19th century. The museum's staff members are friendly and knowledgeable and are always happy to answer any questions visitors may have. Overall, King's Lynn Museum is a fascinating attraction for anyone interested in history and culture. It's a great place to learn about the town's past and get a sense of what life was like in King's Lynn in the past. With its interactive exhibits, beautiful artworks, and informative displays, it's definitely worth a visit.

Visited here at half term on their Roman day and was pleasantly surprised! The seahenge display is amazing and they have some fun displays on local life for the last few hundred years. Their coin hordes and the displays explaining snettisham are ample for a small museum. It being free was really good and the Roman day, while limited in its scope, was informative.

Went for a day trip to kings Lynn, thought we would check out the museum, even got half price entry due to activity day, it was very interesting especially the signs in the ladies loos
Helen W — Google review
Fascinating museum, well laid out, information all fairly well paced, particularly enjoyed seeing the pieces of Sutton Hoo and also found the temporary Star Wars exhibition intriguing.

This is a very small museum but worth a visit for sure. It's right next to the bus station so you might want to pop in while waiting for your bus! Some interesting exhibits and admission was free.

Customs House, located at Purfleet Quay in King's Lynn, is a well-preserved building with a rich history dating back to 1683. Initially serving as a merchants' exchange and customs house, it later became the home of customs and excise until 1989. The ground floor hosts an exhibition on the King's Lynn Civic Society, while upstairs provides details about the Custom House and its builder, Henry Bell.
Went to Kings Lynn to look at buildings related to the Hanseatic trading and shipping history dating from about 1400. Custom house is part of the route. This building is in very good condition both inside and out. Entry is free parking is available in the area.

Custom house is located at Purefleet just next to riverside. Beautiful architecture building. George Vancouver statue is around just in front of this building. Lovely place
Win T — Google review
This beautiful and well preserved little building on the cobbled Purfleet Quay was built in 1683 by Henry Bell (who in the same year also built the Duke's Head Hotel in Tuesday Market Square, where I've been staying!). It was not only a customs house but also initially a place for merchants to trade, and it remained the home of customs and excise until 1989. Would have loved to have taken a look inside, but it was closed. There's a statue of George Vancouver, the 18th century sea captain and explorer who charted the Pacific Coast of North America, in front of it. The quay stands on the site of the medieval docks and is worth a look. There's an interpretation board with lots of interesting facts about its history. The harbourfront generally seemed almost deserted, only a couple of moored vessels, but I enjoyed the quiet charm of its narrow streets and old merchant's houses. You can still take boat trips from the South Quay.

Great place for an evening stroll. Quite charm by the waterfront. Well preserved.
Satish C — Google review
Looks good already, should look terrific after facelift on at the moment (August 2016)
Brian T — Google review
This place is somewhat heavily marketed within Kings Lynn as a place to visit - lots of photos showing interesting aspects - my appetite was whetted. Imagine then my disappointment to find the place closed. My visit to Kings Lynn was on Bank Holiday Monday - most other places in Kings Lynn managed to muster enough staff to open - just not the Customs House. A shame.

The Corn Exchange Theatre and Cinema, located on Tuesday Market Place, features a charming Grade II listed 1854 facade that contrasts with its modern interior. This versatile venue hosts a variety of events including theatre, comedy, musicals, concerts, and top box office films. The building's historical significance as a former trading town adds to its appeal. With an onsite coffee shop and accommodating facilities for wheelchair users, it offers a comfortable and enjoyable experience for visitors.
The building is on the market square & easy to find when walking from the train station. The building itself, is beautiful. I was really impressed at the cleanliness of the theatre, from the foyer area, toilets, and main theatre. We had seats at the end of Row I, the view of the stage was great, the seats were as comfortable as theatre seats can be, and the leg room was enough. I will definitely return to the theatre in the future to see more shows.
SHARON H — Google review
My first visit in 40+ years. Was last there in playing Badminton, 5 courts on floorboards... This time Cinema 2 to watch the new F1 film... Wow !! what a fantastic transformation, modern, bright, refreshments, big comfy seats with stacks of legroom, perfect temperature, as was 26c outside & finally myself having hearing impairment, the sound quality was exceptional. FIVE STARS ALL ROUND ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Dick R — Google review
A lovely theatre, nice and airy. We went to a concert and the sound was very good. The bar looked nice with a small seated area outside if the weather is nice. Staff were helpfull and friendly, the seats could do to be a bit more supportive to get 5 stars
Paul C — Google review
Booked to see the Mersey Beatles on a Friday while away for the weekend, enjoyed the show. The Corn Exchange is very grand on the outside and has been modernised on the inside, taking a bit of the charm. There is plenty of paid parking right outside. Had to walk through all the smokers at the entrance, which was a shame, don't know what the theatre could do about that. All the staff were friendly.
Peter D — Google review
Very welcoming foyer with a soft and hot drinks stall and a few steps away- an alcoholic beverages bar. Also you can get some snack like classic popcorns, chocolate, snack bars, etc. I had a flat white which, to my surprise, was very delicious for as little as £2.20. Staff were polite and friendly mannered. If you lucky enough you can get a table to sit and enjoy your drink or snack. Inside the theatre couple of things caught my eye- dirty (or very worn?) main red curtains and seats were not very clean, but they were comfortable to sit on for 3+hrs. Apart from that, my first experience at Corn Exchange was pretty good.
Ruta S — Google review
We like this venue but on the last occasion we sat upstairs. Watching classic rock tunes without any proper volume to match was disappointing. In fact during the first half of the show we had more sound coming from the audience behind us. Please check the volume level in the upper seating, as it really did adversely affect the experience and is unfair on the artists. I might add that many people around the section shared a similar view.
Matt W — Google review
On 1st September 2024 went to see supreme queen tribute band, they was absolutely fantastic, my first time going to a concert and the guy singing performed just like Freddie Mercury with all the moves and his voice was just like Freddie's , strongly recommend if your a queen fan!

The final performance of this year's KLF was thoroughly enjoyable. I would thoroughly suggest not to have the councils name on the large screen behind the orchestra. Perhaps instead pics of various historic buildings in the town.

Nestled along the picturesque waterfront, Marriott's Warehouse is a stunning 16th-century structure that has been beautifully restored to preserve its historical charm. Originally constructed around 1580 as a storage facility for corn, salt, and wine, this Grade II* listed building boasts some of the oldest timbers dating back to the early 1300s. Today, it serves as a delightful cafe and restaurant offering Modern European cuisine while celebrating the rich heritage of King's Lynn.
Excellent restaurant and excellent staff. Food very good with a great choice on the menu. Dog friendly as well. Prices reasonable, we were delighted we called in. They had some very detailed models on display upstairs which were quite fascinating to see, and various information boards about some of the locations in King's Lynn.

Absolutely stunning! Great food, great atmosphere and brilliant value for money. This is a favourite for my partner and I, perfect for date night, we can’t stay away! Staff are lovely- if you’re looking for good food you won’t be disappointed!👍🏼🤍
Lily R — Google review
We had a lovely anniversary meal here and absolutely loved it. Everything was rich, fresh, and delicious, you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. Three courses for two with drinks came in under £100, which felt like great value. The staff were welcoming, quick, and really attentive, and it was nice to see the kitchen team looking calm and actually enjoying what they were doing. The service was impressively fast, three courses in about an hour! We’ll definitely be coming back. The lighting, décor, and views all added to the atmosphere, and the easy parking was a bonus. Highly recommend!

This place was BUSY, we hadn't prebooked and it was Saturday night but we asked if we could sit outside as our want too cold. The food was lovely, I was full having the fish crumble, so much fish in there, partner had the steak, which was massive, we didn't have any space for pudding. Staff were very friendly helpful and as I said very busy inside with a beautiful view outside, well be gorgeous in summer
Manda M — Google review
Came here on August Summer Bank Holiday. We'd booked for lunch and it was a glorious sunny day and sat outside (which is where most of the people were sitting. It has a lovely inside and upstairs bit too. Menu had good choices, reasonable prices and good portions. Staff were excellent throughout the 2hrs 15 mins we were there (even .ore so when you take in the fact it was 27c heat and they were constantly back and forth. Lovely setting next to the ricer, although we didn't see any boats as the tide was out. There is no direct Car Park but 4 mins walk is a very large car park which was only £3.50 for 24 hours. An absolute gem and will definitely use again when we are that way (it approx 1 hour from us)
Kevin B — Google review
Lovely food, great service! Very friendly and helpful staff. We sat outside on Quayside. I would definitely recommend.
Ruth P — Google review
Visiting Lynn for the day, we came by here in the early evening. We managed to get a table in this lovely renovated warehouse. I orderd the steak burger with added bacon and cheese, Mrs F had the chicken skewers, and a side of onion rings to share. We did have a bit of a wait unfortunatley, but there was a few folk sitting outside, so fair does. When our food came it looked delicious my burger was a beast ! Mrs F's skewers were cooked perfectly as was my burger, proper cheese on it not the sliced plastic cheese that is very common. The chunky chips were the best I've ever had, triple cooked for sure, crispy outside and light and fluffy inside with a delicious flavour. My burger unfortunatley, beat me 😔 so very filling, not the run of the mill 1/4lbr at all more like 1/2lb 😄 Many thanks to the team here at Marriot Warehouse for most enjoyable, tasty and filling meals.
Kris F — Google review
The outside seating was great and the vibe was very chilled. Was really good they had a lot of options for gluten and dairy free, so was easy to pick something to suit both myself and my partner. The food was quite overpriced for what is was, wasn’t particularly fresh but wasn’t bad, just felt the price was quite high. The person who greeted us at the door also seemed like it was a massive inconvenience we had turned up for our reservation 😂. However the gentleman who was serving our table was lovely.

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the heart of King's Lynn, The Walks is a charming 18th-century urban park that offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of town life. Originally designed as a serene promenade for locals to enjoy fresh air away from the grime of the city, this historic park has evolved into a beloved green space featuring paved trails, playgrounds, and even a bandstand.
Beautiful green space. Steeped in history, with plenty of benches and lovely scenery. Lots of wildlife opportunities with ducks and squirrels, and I’d imagine a kingfisher or two, although I didn’t spot any on this occasion. An asset to the town.
Ian M — Google review
Beautifully planted, well maintained park. Dog friendly, good play area, cafe is a bit disappointing but does its best in the limited space.
C — Google review
Although The Walks are obviously beautiful I believe they're best appreciated among the context of Kings Lynn in a more general sense. The town, although steeped in wonderful history and architecture, has fallen the way of many suburban towns in England. Falling into an almost forgotten and slightly melancholic feel to the town centre. There's not any real reason for this aside from shopping habits changing from centralised town centres and communities generally being less connected and it's certainly not unique to KL, seems as if almost every town in England is suffering the same fate. With BIDs and councils left exasperated on how to rejuvenate as it seems no amount of money can ever relight the fire of localised community that things such as edge of town retail and the internet have all but snuffed out. There's an emptiness and a somewhat loneliness present while navigating the town centre as a visitor which is difficult to ignore but sadly not uncommon. I feel it's important to keep that in mind while reviewing The Walks, I visited whilst on a short stay in the town late on a rainy midweek afternoon. The place is beautiful. The entrance from the town centre side is an immaculately arboured walkway with central lamp posts perfectly framed. The pathway was a little boring considering the surroundings but it conjured up memories of when England cared about uniformed preened beauty. An almost Richard Curtis-esque idealistic vision of what English nature in an urban space should feel like. I'm surprised I haven't seen it used as a location in cinema and wouldn't be surprised to now notice it in some God awful British romcom featuring an unlikely romance between an upper class widower and a young working class or American woman striving for better in her life or some such nonsense. Just walking along this pathway evoked ideas of stories and a sense of the potential for love to exist between these lines of perfectly spaced trees. I entered the wider park through the gateway, I imagine much has been written on the structures so I won't bother, and was as good as blown away by the subtle but purposeful beauty of the park. The waterways with little bridges and ducks paddling along allowing tiny moments for individuals to cherish for their whole lives. On the ducks it brought a cracked smile to my usually miserable face to see the small ramps of wood made for them to more easily access the banks, kudos to whoever commissioned those. The place was empty due to the weather but I imagined so much life in this place happening. Dads showing their toddlers how to feed the ducks, lovers wandering hand in hand over the footbridges and huddling together on the benches, buskers on the bandstand drawing their first crowd of the season and children stopping to simply smell the flowers while their exasperated mothers try to hurry them along to school. The place was designed for life's unexciting but defining moments, I imagine there's been more than a few proposals upon those bridges. The highlight for me was the collection of willows, which I have attached photos of, well kempt and numerous but still reaching out imploring to be touched by passers by. Reminding them that, although in this instant it has been curated, nature isn't simply there to be spectated but to be interacted with. On a sunnier day I'd have happily sat there reading a book for an hour or two in a stolen lazy moment. In this sense The Walks are a utopia, allowing and promoting the subtle simple beauty of life in England, it's the last remaining positive parts of a nationalism now seen as dirty, shameful and wrong. I'd argue it possesses this rare quality with institutions such as Kew and Wakehurst yet without the associated price tag. I'd love to visit in Spring and bring along a sketchbook to take in all the new life, perhaps I'll do that even though the journey is fairly long. To put it succinctly The Walks are a vision of idyllic England, a lovely letter to this great country and those who live in it. An absolute pleasure to visit.

What a beautiful open space! We visited here with our dog for a walk before heading back home to the East Midlands. Most of the park grounds were very well maintained and the public toilets were clean. We did visit the park cafe for a mocha and a strawberry milkshake. Both of the drinks were okay but the strawberry milkshake was a cheap man’s Nesquik. The taste was not good and it certainly didn’t taste of strawberries. The cafe is a little expensive for basic food and drinks. Whilst seating just outside the cafe we unfortunately encountered two men and a woman who were using remote controlled cars at very high speeds and they were noisy. They had no regard for anyone else in the area and were just a general nuisance. Our dog was a little scared of the remote controlled cars and there were other people with dogs and small children in this area that really didn’t appreciate them either. The woman commented to my husband as we walked past that one of the men is visually impaired, we were amazed by that because he was controlling one of the remote controlled cars! All it takes is a little bit of thought and everybody can enjoy the open space.

My favourite park in King's Lynn, I've been visiting here for 50 years at some points daily as part of my walk to sixth form and work. A historic urban park located in the heart of King's Lynn, The Walks is the only surviving 18th-century town walk in Norfolk. A Grade II listed landscape. I love all of it, and it's just as beautiful at night as during the day. The formal gardens of St James Park adjacent to London Road are always stunning. A busy dog walkers, runners, and cyclists favourite. The wildlife has changed over the years with the ducks and geese diminishing to almost nothing, the Nuthatch and Treecreeper are there in very small numbers where once they were prolific and I took the daily sightings for granted. You'll see many small song birds, jays, song thrushes, various gulls, pigeons, and doves. There are plenty of grey squirrels to get up close to. They'll feed from your hand if you're patient. There's a good variety of trees, wild flowers, and fungi to look for. If you're lucky you might just catch sight of a deer. The Gaywood River flows through the park and, on occasion, will flood. Now The Walks hosts Park Run, a summer café/kiosk, toilets, Bandstand, MUGA, bmx track, skate park, children's playground, and parkour There are plenty of spots to picnic, good tarmac walkways, benches, the Historic Red Mount Chapel, Guannock Gate, and St John's Church. It hosts many of the towns large events throughout the year, too. A short walk from both the bus station and railway station, and close to pay and display car parks. At the rear of The Walks, you will find the football stadium, home to King's Lynn Linnets and the Blue and Gold club.

Heritage building
St Nicholas' Chapel, located in Kings Lynn, is the largest chapel of ease in the United Kingdom. It was built as an extension of St Margaret's Church and features 15th-century architecture with a Victorian spire. The chapel is renowned for its medieval Angel Roof and rare Consistory Court. Recently renovated with the help of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, it now hosts various events and exhibitions.
Visited to do Family History research on May 9th to see where my great great grandparents were married in 1860. One of The Friends group, John, met me to open up, he was very helpful & I appreciated his assistance. It's a beautiful building with a fantastic wooden roof with carved angels & a wonderful stained glass window. A very enjoyable & interesting visit.

Stunning architecture in the countries largest chapel. It has one of the oldest Angel Ceilings and many beautiful historic features including monuments to various families. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.

This fine Chapel was built as a Chapel of Ease for St Margarets or Kings Lynn Minster , presumably at a time when more people went to Church than these magnificent buildings could hold . It was founded in 1146 by one Bishop Turbus and has undergone many alterations and renovations since including a new steeple in 1869 built by my personal hero Sir George Gilbert Scott after the earlier one collapsed . There is a ledger slab here in memory of one Robinson Cruso who died in 1773 how cool is that . If you get the feeling you are being watched in here you may well be right . The spectacularly carved wooden angels above have their eyes on you . So be good boys and girls . On the day I was here there was a very talented gentleman restoring the magnificent screen behind the alter and under the just as magnificent stained glass window . In another life one in which I am not such a clutz I shall get a job like this . I think they are great helping to preserve our history and keeping our environment interesting . If you find yourself in King's Lynn I would certainly recommend a visit .

Beautiful and interesting. This building also has wonderful acoustics.

I went to concert here. It is in prime condtion, great acoustics and very atmospheric. The concert was great and the setting certainly enhanced it. The pews were a bit uncompromising, I recommend taking a pillow. Although it was a cold night the heating was adequate
James O — Google review
A beautiful and relaxing place . My 4yr old thinks the spire is a rocket ship and although she was disappointed that we couldn't go up to the "rocket" even she liked the beauty of the place her brother (also4) absolutely loved the acoustic and we even heard someone playing the organ a lovely visit

Fine late Gothic wool church, interesting tracery, Father Willis organ, unusual (almost Berkeley) door ways, angel roof...

Historical landmark
Nestled within the picturesque landscape of The Walks in Kings Lynn, Red Mount Chapel is a stunning historical gem dating back to the late 1400s. Originally built as a wayside chapel for pilgrims journeying to the Shrine of Lady of Walsingham, this beautifully restored Grade listed building offers visitors a glimpse into its rich past.
A fascinating place to visit. We were lucky to find it open this Wednesday afternoon. It's been preserved quite well, the stairs are new - ish! And it's free to visit, which is always nice!
Melanie ( — Google review
A motte and bailey castle may have stood inside the Town wall of Kings Lynn in a loop of the Gaywood River, there is no recorded evidence but this would have been a good location for one. The area was remodelled during the English Civil War creating positions for canons. A building was built on the mound in 1485 as a wayside chapel known as the Red Mount Chapel or Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount, it was a stopping point in the port of Lynn on the way to Little Walsingham which was the second most popular destination for pilgrims after Canterbury. It was started by Robert Currance from June 1483 and the upper chapel was possibly added in 1506 by Simon Clerk and John Wastel the masons who built the chapel in Kings Collage, Cambridge. It had a varied history but for a chapel it was only used as a religious site for about 50 years of it's life. It is normally open two days a week but you would need to check before visiting.
Stephen M — Google review
I am volunteering for the first time at the Red Mount. It's open May - September (closed for Autumn and Winter because of roosting bats). It is open between 1 and 4 pm initially on Wednesday and Saturday. Fascinating little place.
Jill J — Google review
A wonderful surprising place with great atmosphere. Take care on the steps however! This Chapel was an essential stopping point for pilgrims en- route to Walsingham in Norfolk prior to the dissolution of the monasteries during the reign of Hentry Vlll. After this time, it fell into disrepair and was used as a storage depot and ancient graffiti shows how it was visited and vandalised. Fortunately the value of this ancient gem was recognised and now, fully restored ,we can once again marvel at its 'Tardis' -like quality and benefit from its unique atmosphere.
Sue J — Google review
One of the most recognisable historic buildings in Lynn, The Red Mount Chapel is situated in The Walks, a public park. The chapel, built between 1483-85, was used by pilgrims travelling to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham which at the time, was the second most popular destination for pilgrims in England after Canterbury. The chapel is built to an octagonal plan and has three storeys, including the lower chapel (Ground Floor), the priest's room (First Floor), and an upper chapel (Second Floor) which was added in 1506. The upper chapel is decorated with an impressive fan-vaulted ceiling in ornate late Perpendicular Gothic style. Since it was closed for worship in the 1530’s the chapel has had several uses including water storage, gunpowder store (during the Civil War) and a stable. Thanks to volunteers the Chapel is open to the public for a couple of days a week during the summer months.

St George's Guildhall, the largest surviving medieval guildhall in the UK, is a treasure trove of history and culture. Dating back to 1428, this Grade I listed building has served various purposes over the centuries and boasts an impressive timbered ceiling made from Norfolk oak. As Britain's oldest working theatre, it has hosted performances since as early as 1445, including a notable appearance by Shakespeare in 1593 during London's plague closures.
11 September 2025: Closing this weekend for 2 years or more for extensive work. The famous floorboards are linked to William Shakespeare.

This is an incredible building, Britain's oldest working theatre and used as a guildhall before being used as a theatre. The architectural history is really interesting and the proposed restoration will make it even easier to appreciate.

Tot L — Google review
A Grade 1 listed building, is use by 1428, St George’s is the oldest and largest complete medieval Guildhall in England. The earliest record of a theatrical production was in 1445, and recent academic research has supported local tradition that Shakespeare himself played here with the Earl of Pembroke’s Men in 1593 when London theatres were closed by the plague. Robert Armin, Shakespeare’s leading comic actor, was born in King’s Lynn in 1565. Going forward, the aim of The Shakespeare’s Guildhall Trust is to create a multi-disciplinary theatre and mixed arts venue to introduce visitors to the building.
Edward B — Google review
Around 600 years old, the modest facade of this Grade 1 listed building belies what is inside. The oldest and largest complete medieval Guildhall in England, its enormous beams are from Norfolk oak and the ceiling is worth seeing. Just beautiful. And it may claim being the only standing building where Shakespeare acted. Worth seeing or better to attend a performance.

Main car park in the centre of King's Lynn. You can only pay with cash or using the ParkingOps app. No contactless or need to type in your car registration number. Although car park name refers to a Tuesday market - said market has not been held for last 10 years. There is also a 20 minute area where you can park for free. If parking overnight or for a few days - it's cheaper to use the car park near to the Wetherspoons and close to the waterfront.

Art center
King's Lynn Arts Centre is a cultural hub featuring the medieval Guildhall Theatre and four distinct art galleries. The Guildhall Auditorium, dating back to 1406, has a rich history as a performance space, with ties to Shakespearean theater. While it no longer hosts many events due to lack of support, it still offers occasional art exhibitions and monthly film showings.
Shakespeare would find this performance space very familiar as a professional theatre. Companies like the Lord Chamberlain's Men DID perform in these venues in town & cities nationally. For 400 years, at least, UK merchants (Philip Henslowe-like) built these multi-use venues for professional play performances and other things, including: weddings, debates, local courts, tax collection, concerts, dances, meetings and other "assemblies" (as they came to be known in the 18th century). 1766 saw this space permanently converted by a Master Carpenter Architect to a Regulated Theatre almost with a stage front almost exactly matching that surviving in Bristol's Old Vic. Photographs of theatre interior during demolition taken 1947 by National Monuments Archive published in Theatre Notebook 1945. See Bristol UK Theatre Collection.

Pearl River Restaurant is a contemporary Chinese eatery adorned with vibrant bird paintings and carvings, offering a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant features an extensive menu that combines traditional Chinese dishes with a European twist. Guests can indulge in Anglo-Cantonese favorites such as Peking duck, sweet and sour pork, and salt and pepper squid. The buffet option allows diners to enjoy unlimited dishes served directly to their table in sequential order, encouraging responsible consumption.
came here for the first time with my partner as we saw they offered a veggie and vegan buffet which is super hard to find, and we were NOT disappointed! each and every dish was cooked to perfection with such gorgeous flavours, the variety of dishes for both of our diets was amazing, the portion sizes were perfect as they left enough room to try multiple dishes on the menu, it’s amazing value for money and well worth paying for the experience, and to top it off the staff were absolutely lovely (especially our main waitress Alisha who was extremely accommodating for us!). highly recommend this place to all, we can’t wait to come back! 🤍

I love Pearl River because of their vegan menu. 🌱 The salt & pepper tofu is my favourite, I could eat that all day & night. Also, the mock duck is incredible so definitely give that a try. The staff are always lovely & attentive. We visited on a Friday evening this time so the restaurant was a little loud but during peak time, I don't think that can be helped.

There aren't many order off the menu Chinese buffet restaurants but this one does that in spades. Large selection of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes. Starters and entrée courses can be ordered multiple times and then served fresh to the table. Then move on to the mains and choose from dozens of dishes which are all freshly prepared and brought to the table rather than queuing up at a buffet. Large selection of drinks including great cocktails and mocktails. Spacious inside. Wonderful attentive staff, who came promptly when ordering. Highly recommend as this is a fun concept restaurant and great fit groups, families, couples alike.

We had an outstanding dining experience at this Chinese restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the attentive staff made us feel welcome and well taken care of. The service was first class—friendly, fast, and professional throughout our meal. The menu offered a great choice of excellent quality food, with something for everyone. Every dish we ordered was freshly prepared and bursting with authentic flavours. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients and the care put into each plate. Whether you’re craving traditional favourites or something new, this place delivers on all fronts. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious Chinese cuisine and top-notch service. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Had a wonderful evening here tonight for my Dads 60th birthday celebration. The food was delicious . Highly recommend the sweet and sour and cantonese dishes. All the food was fantastic. Staff were going above and beyond for my Dad's special night and had a couple of lovely birthday surprises for us. Thanks so much Pearl River for making it special.

I’ve never been to a all you can eat and still left hungry. The first two hours that we were there we only had our starter that still came cold. Not to mentioned that we were a party with 3 kids and got placed right by the door, which was creating a draft every time someone entered and left the building. It was just total chaos, there was no organisation and all we kept hearing is sorry. None of the staff told us there was a massive wait on food due to deliveries etc. we didn’t know who was the waitress looking after us, they tried to keep our deposit and not take off the bill and wanted to charge us for 3 toddlers that were one years of age. The portions for the duck for 4 adults was the same as the party of two sat behind us. The main sizes was enough for one person, but we didn’t want to order more if it was going to take another hour to come. I just wouldn’t recommend or go there again. It’s such a shame because the food itself didn’t taste bad, just the service and the delays was really really really bad. If you going prepare yourself to stay there 5h and only eat 3 plates.
Elisabete W — Google review
I was genuinely so disappointed as I was looking forward to this. The prices are far too high for what you get. I paid around £10 for the tom yum soup and I when it came out it was tiny! There were 3 prawns in it which was a bit of a joke. The special fried rice was also very bland and I had to ask for some crispy chilli oil to get some flavour in there. Its not often you spend £25 and leave still hungry

Nestled in the heart of Kings Lynn, Soul Café and Restaurant offers a delightful fusion of Caribbean flavors with a modern twist. Founded by Olivier Vati from Guadeloupe and his Norfolk-native wife Helen, this vibrant eatery features an extensive menu that caters to all dietary preferences, including a dedicated section for vegan dishes. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it perfect for families or casual gatherings.
well cocktails were lush. fact we were given 2 samples free and asked for our views to select which one would be cocktail of the month was so sweet. food is to a very high standard and beautifully presented. service was relaxed and lovely level of banta and charm from the chef who came to our table.

Soul Cafe is a popular restaurant in the centre of Kings Lynn. It offers a menu which has a British twist as well as some Thai on their Caribbean inspired menu. Don't expect the traditional ackee and saltfish or plantain here. The decor is modern inside but a little dated and worn out in areas such as the toilets and areas leading to here. The waitress was very polite in their manner and attentive to us. The waiter was also friendly. The owner of the establishment appeared to be present and got a bit too close and personal to me and my guests. We found them to be a little abrupt in the way they served us. The location was relatively quiet for a Friday night. Pros: * The customer service received from the waitress and waiter were excellent. They couldn't have done more for us and were very attentive. * This location offers 20% Blue Light Card discount when we asked * The Thai Green Curry was rich in flavour and tasted great. Cons: * We asked for tap water 3 times from the waitress. They failed to bring this after asking. * We had ordered chilli beef as a starter. This never came to the table despite the other 2 starters arriving. Although the waitress was apoolgietic about this, the owner of the restaurant was abrupt about this and told us their error in putting it as a starter on the menu. Even when the owner said they would bring it to our table and not charge us for it, this never happened. * Ordering a Thai Red Curry, they informed us after ordering that they only had Thai Green Curry which was the same. Not strictly true in all circumstances but nevertheless should have been told to us before ordering. * Pricing wise the food is on the dearer side. Drinks are about average for Kings Lynn. * The waitress encouraged us to order a side of rice for £3 extra which was not required as the Thai Green Curry came with it anyway. Upselling in this manner should not be happening as it's contradicting when they stated it does not come with rice. * The goat was nice but had more bones as opposed to meat present on there. Disappointing when major competitors provide a better offering. * Dated toilets. A bit tired interior. Needs some refurbishment. Overall we were disappointed and would be reluctant to visit again. 4/10.

Super lovely staff and relaxed vibe at the Soul Café. The seabass was incredible and the mixed grill was huge! Sweet potato fries and tortilla chips are freshly cooked and perfect. Lovely outside terrace and covered patio to the rear and a massive spice inside to cater for everyone. Great mocktails. Popular with locals and visitors alike

Amazing! Loved this restaurant. Went as a family of 7 which they accommodated to. Food was all amazing. Vegan and gluten-free options on the menu. Lovely staff, waitress was very attentive and her partner the chef was fast and also friendly as we asked a question to him. The restaurant itself was very modern and spacious. I couldn't fault it in anyway.

Had the Caribbean mixed grill. The meat was delicious and plentiful. Lots of flavour in the sauces. The chef was really engaging & cheerful. Perfect place for any keen, meat eater.

From first entry Soul Cafe & Restaurant is a fusion of confusion - the nondescript and coldly detached interior has no soul, the menu with Curried Goat, Thai and Moroccan dishes all on the same menu disorientated me - not the typical Caribbean or African restaurant menu.....then the owner Olivier came to confuse me further with his conversation (talking up his culinary talents and achievements) which, along with the decor and menu simply made me feel further alienated......nonetheless, taking Olivier's advice we ordered curried goat whilst, after some discussion, Olivier also offered to create a new dish - but none of it worked - most disappointing was the sticky (Thai) rice - a soggy, congealed mass closely followed in disappointment stakes by the curry goat - which was basically a watery, tangy soup....🤦🏻‍♂️ and tasted more packet jerk seasoning than authenticity (anyone familiar with true Caribbean food would not know this - either texture or taste). After looking forward to the food based on the reviews, ratings and Olivier's talk, the whole experience was all pretty unpleasant but, looking at the website the explanation may be that all authenticity has been desecrated and diluted out to accord with the British tastes of "British-Caribbean Fusion" 😫 and disappointingly also fell far short of Oliver's swag......if you are looking for authentic food it's not here. (Went to Nandos the next night!)

Lovely open light place, friendly waiter, food is cooked in an open kitchen. We went there for the vegan options. We ordered the vegan Wellington, which was probably a mistake as it wasn't specifically Jamaican. It wasn't bad, it was quite tasty, but had been heated from frozen and some of it was cold, not fully cooked. Also not very generous portion for the price. It took a long time to arrive. They didn't have the vegan dessert we wanted either, it was apparently being delivered tomorrow. Probably wouldn't go back. Photo is the vegan Wellington with sweet potato fries and salad. A little disappointing.

Found this restaurant from a Google search for vegan breakfast. Bonus that also served a meat breakfast for my partner. This was the best vegan breakfast I’ve had. The flavour of the scrambled tofu was absolutely delicious not the overpowering turmeric taste you sometimes get. Will certainly visit again if we’re in the area.

Great little cafe, recommend reserving a table as its a smaller cafe and seems to be quite popular. Service was great, food was mainly good, took a while to come out but believe that was due to shorted staff. Pancakes were amazing, very fluffy and filling. Hash browns were quite hard and very cheesy so that was the only down point. Breakfast burrito was nice and hearty. They had lost of vegan and vegetarian options too. Coffee also lovely and strong and alternative milk available. I would go back for sure.

They served us fantastic food at 8.30 on a Fri evening when a lot of other places had stopped doing food. Really glad we found it as I had delicious ribs with probably the best potato salad I've eaten. The nachos and hibiscus tea come highly recommended too. Friendly staff and a great vibe.

This place is bloody awesome. If you want a martini and you’re in Kings Lynn you need only go here. The cocktail menu is extensive and they will create whatever you want whether it’s on the menu or not. The staff provided excellent service with their friendly demeanor and quick efficiency. Additionally, the restaurant offers a clean environment and even has outdoor seating available on sunny days.
Really quirky cafe, service is fast and the food is good. Nice selection between the buffet and the normal menu. The staff call out a friendly goodbye as you leave which feels lovely and personal. Feels nice to support a family owned business. Definitely recommend, will come back again!

Well I’m not really impressed but it was ok and I’ve had better roast dinners, this is the problem when restaurants use hot lamps help keep the food hot but they never really that good as the food was only just warm and also really dry which was really disappointing really, staff was lovely and pleasant and the prices wasn’t to bad really and the restaurant inside was really lovely and clean with beautiful decoration…

I read the reviews and they weren't exaggerating, this place actually really has fantastic friendly staff, and was the best breakfast I've had in ages, as good as any of the hotels I've stayed in in my travels, the compimentary coffee was better than the coffee I paid £3.50 for next day at Gail's. Stories of Lynn is a captivating museum nestled in the historic quarter, offering an immersive journey through the rich tapestry of King's Lynn's past. Visitors can explore fascinating exhibits that highlight the lives of seafarers, merchants, and local figures who shaped the town’s vibrant history. Among its treasures is the stunning 14th-century King John Cup, alongside engaging displays that bring history to life with hands-on experiences.
A truly amazing museum with an entrance fee which more than covers the experience. Great stories of King's Lynn, loads of history, lots of hands on stuff for the kids and a great jail section. We are so glad we visited and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

A good local museum that caters well for the younger generation with interactive games. The gaol is a highlight and informative insight into how justice was dispensed in the past.
Richard P — Google review
Great museum! Not a fan of paying for entry in the UK (it simply isn't the norm*) but this place is just really well put together. It was £3.80 each for reference, think we spent at least an hour in there. I am lazy and distracted when it comes to reading displays but the info here is very digestible and well layed out. It helps that Kings Lynn is actually a really interesting place but this museum also presents that history very well. The gaol section is very well done and a nice contrast to the initial history/timeline of Lynn section. Make sure you don't miss the upstairs of the building where you get to see some fancy town council/court/guildhall rooms and a cool massive window with etched panels. There is also a bit upstairs passed the court room which says 'no exit' but my reading was that you could still go that way (as long as you don't exit) and there is a fun painting of Pocahontas. The connection here is that Pocahontas's boyfriend was the apprentice of someone from King's Lynn. Past Pocahontas there is also a room full of photos of King's Lynn mayors but also lots of wood mounted odd military crests. This is a weird room but basically just extra value for money at this point. *I learned for the first time about the Hanseatic League of medieval merchants at this museum, of which King's Lynn was part of. Maybe membership of this network is what makes this museum take up the somewhat mainland European approach of charging for museum entry

Everyone was really helpful and keen to tell us things to do both at the museum and elsewhere in King's Lynn. Lots of hands on things for kids. My 3 year old really enjoyed the dolls house and my 5 year old played the boat shipping game. The old cells were too scary for my 5 year old tho. He legged it before we even saw them. The recordings of 'inmates' banging and requesting to come out were too much for him.

Visited on a public holiday around noon. This place is right opposite to Kings Lynn Minster entrance. The street is full of cafés and eateries. You can buy the ticket at Reception. Cost is shown in the picture below and the cost is as of 2023 May. Alison is a kind lady , she was very helpful in finding right materials to understand the museum better and she even helped me charge my phone ( otherwise I would be lost without battery ) . The museum has some puzzles to solve. You can leisurely spend a day solving these. They even have interactive activities for kids with colour pencils , craft items etc. with chocolates as gift Section 1 is more about Kings Lynn history and artefacts . Section 2 is treasury . Section 3 has videos of important people in kings Lynn history speaking their stories ( enacted ) Section 5 is about army and rules they had vetoed Section 6 is scary. They have shown different gross punishments of those days and the instruments used . Also shadow play , you can walk into Real rooms where people were locked up. Last section is a prison room with a 5.6 minutes video of Eugene who was convicted of murder. Lastly you have clean toilets in case you want to Use. They even have fish shaped feedback tag which can be hooked to the wall. Overall a good experience.
Minch — Google review
The museum has two parts. The first one, is dedicated to town's history and has a number of displays with artifacts from the past. Everything is well organised and wach room has a specific thene. Also there are a couple of corners are dedicated to kids and have interactive activities. The second part is the old gaol and have displays and artifacts from the old prison. It is a bit sad watching the punishment methods of the past but since it is part of the history, we should learn about it.

I usually love a tourist information office but my gosh this one was poor. The lady managed to be smiley yet astonishingly unhelpful. She volunteered no information about what was on. I asked about an audio trail leaflet which I couldn’t get to work but she just said ‘oh I don’t really know about that!’. Asked about Wi-Fi to which she vaguely and unpromisingly said ‘try such-and-such a password’. The only time she seemed bothered to do anything was when I accidentally went through a door into the paid exhibition area, at which point she rushed over to berate me. Really, really poor service. No idea what she was doing on her computer but she certainly gave the impression that it was a lot more important than a mere visitor (even though we were the only people in there!).

The lady, seemingly in charge over her co-worker, was extremely officious, sharp, unfriendly, snobbish. Between the two of them they did in fact contact 3 places where my wife and I might stay and eventually we hit on an old coaching house in Downham Market.

We visited here to try the tasting menu. On the whole it is quite good, the scallops were very good, although not local (Scottish) which takes away the flavours of Norfolk concept a little. The purees and gels are clever and very tasty. The beef (Red Pohl) was a little overdone, more medium than rare and consequently a little firm. The desserts were delicious, and probably the best part of the meal. Go with the paired wine selections, they are actually very good, particularly the Hungarian Tokai with the scallops and the Spanish Crianza with the beetroot tartare. The Market Bistro is good value for the quality of food. The service is very good, although we were the only diners in the restaurant for the first 90 minutes!
Tim F — Google review
There is much to like about this place; the food is very good and looks particularly beautiful. The seasonal menu was interesting, with a fair choice. The waiting staff were friendly and knowledgable. The overall atmosphere was cozy and relaxed. However, it was just a bit pricier than I was anticipating; a table of 4 all having three course meals with a bottle of wine seems overpriced at £200, without service too. I find it hard not to be more critical at this price point; my artichoke veloute was just a little overflavoured with thyme, as were the pears that came with my venison. The braised red cabbage was good, but a little too hot and spicy from pepper and cinnamon. However the venison itself was cooked perfectly, the pears had a satisfyingly yielding crunch and the roast artichokes tasted like they had seen a good daubing beef dripping. There is nowhere else quite like this in King's Lynn, however if you are willing to travel the Neptune in Hunstanton feels more special and has greater perfection for not dissimilar money. Alternatively The Bank House is just around the corner and is a bit cheaper. I'm glad I have finally been to the Market Bistro, but don't know that I feel the need to rush back soon.

Fantastic food! Everything we tried- mushrooms, beef, cheese's, drinks- all ABSOLUTELY delicious. Their chef sent out a taster of partridge meatballs and they were also delicious. Their waitstaff was happy to answer any questions we had and if they couldn't, they found someone who could. We had a nice leisurely dinner and did not feel rushed at all. The ambiance is relaxing and I loved the rustic decor. They had just recently redone the menu and it was very impressive. Absolutely delicious and a must go!

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at the Market Bistro. Great choice on the menu, from light lunch bites and starters to mains. The dishes were imaginative, very well cooked and beautifully presented. Little extras are included like a beetroot meringue with cream cheese - absolutely delicious. The staff are very friendly and helpful, service is excellent and the setting is stunning, opposite the Minster.

Tastefully understated with a welcoming cosy atmosphere. Good for a special intimate meal or group celebration meal. The food is always imaginative and presented artistically, in the modern style. More importantly it tastes fantastic and is memorable. Usually give you lovely bread and a free sample from their taster menu. If you judge food by quantity, this isn't the place for you! But savour every mouthful. I had a mini shepherds pie starter using shredded lamb topped with pureed truffle mash! The choice is limited usually to only 5 main course options. There were 2 meat, 2 fish and 1 vegetarian choices. It's more expensive than your average British restaurant meal but this isn't your average meal. Well worth the extra!

The staff, like our guide Chris, are friendly, knowledgeable, and their enthusiasm is infectious. We enjoyed seeing a variety of free-roaming animals and birds, with finding them being part of the fun. We'll definitely be back, as each tour will be different. Thanks for a surprisingly wonderful day and great memories. 🤩

An unforgettable experience at Watatunga Safari Park! We had the most incredible visit to Watatunga Safari Park — it’s an absolute gem of a place and so much more than your typical wildlife experience. From the moment we arrived, we could feel the passion and care that goes into every part of it. We were lucky enough to meet Ed, the owner, whose enthusiasm is infectious. He spoke about the important research and conservation work they’re doing — everything from protecting endangered species to breeding programmes — and it’s clear this is a true labour of love. Our guide, Chris, was fantastic: funny, engaging, and full of fascinating insights into the animals and the park’s work. He struck the perfect balance between education and entertainment — we learned loads and laughed just as much! A big shout-out, too, to Ben, one of the volunteers, who was brilliant — so friendly and clearly passionate about what he does. We were incredibly lucky with the wildlife sightings — spotting bongo, sitatunga, eland, waterbuck, white-tailed gnu, and even rare birds among the wetlands. Every turn of the safari buggy brought something new and magical. It’s an inspiring, beautifully run place that deserves every bit of support. I’d recommend Watatunga Safari Park to absolutely everyone — families, wildlife lovers, or anyone who just wants to experience something genuinely special in Norfolk. We’ll definitely be back, especially as we bought 4 gift vouchers!

A unique experience like no other in the UK! We were taken around the reserve by Andy & Charlie who were able to provide lots of information about the animals and personal stories about how the animals live. We saw a large variety of animals on our visit, we were quite lucky. Due to the nature of the park you aren't guaranteed to see certain animals as the ethos of the place very much puts the animals first and they are free to roam as they please, even if you don't see much you get to travel around on a golf buggy and what isn't fun about that? We plan to go back with some friends!
Jade D — Google review
Absolutely fabulous experience, all of the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. A wide range of animals to see from Water buffalo, Wildebeest, Cranes and different species of endangered deer. The buggys are easy to drive, you get a radio for information to help you spot the animals. It is fun for all ages and you get to help support invaluable conservation work. Everyone was talking about it for the rest of the day, thank you!

This was a wonderful experience! It was a gift for Christmas that we would go together as a family, and we were very lucky with many of the residents coming out to say hello. Chris was a great guide! We all enjoyed it, and it was nice to have a hot drink afterwards in the cafe. The on site kennels were also great for the dogs!

This was a lovely experience to go on and really happy to see conservation efforts for critically endangered animals from around the world. They seemed happy and thriving with plenty of ‘disco chickens’ keeping it light hearted. Well done to Charlie and Tracey who made it light hearted and informative. Dave was a great character to see too.

A really good afternoon in a beautiful reserve with lots of different animals. The staff are kind, helpful and very informative about the animals. The site is tidy and the animals have so much space, they sre clearly well looked after. Watatunga is also disability friendly with a wheelchair accessible buggy, this was great!

Amazing place and experience. We visited this august and was the highlight of the school holidays. We were very lucky with the weather and the amount of animals we were able to see. Our guide Charley was very good, entertaining and very knowledgable in regards to the animals, reserve and its history. 100% recommended and we will definitely be visiting again.

Castle Rising is a medieval castle and fortress built in 1138 that boasts elaborate decoration and covers an area of 20 acres. It features a gatehouse and impressive earthworks. The site also includes the Caithness Crystal Visitor Centre, where visitors can admire authentic English glassmaking art. Although it is privately owned by the Howards, Castle Rising offers tours of its well-preserved rooms, corridors, and great hall accessed through steps inside.
Visited Castle Rising near King’s Lynn during the school holidays and wandered freely around the impressive 12th-century ruins. The Norman keep, earthworks, and gatehouse ooze medieval history, with informative panels bringing it all to life. Peaceful grounds, easy paths, and ramps make it fully accessible. A fascinating, underrated gem for history fans!

Interesting castle with quite a bit to look around. Fair entry fee. I would say would be improved by having headsets available to borrow for the audio guide which you have to bring your own headphones for and I didn't have any with me.

A decent day out. Be prepared for lots of steps and tight spots - I don't imagine many ruins are accessibility friendly and this is no exception. We got a good sense of the history of the place and it had a lovely atmosphere helped by conveniently placed plaques explaining the function and history of rooms in the castle.

We went to this Castle for one of the reenactment days. Was really interesting and fun. We explored the castle and moat in between hearing all talks on fashion, medicine, games, cooking and food and watching a Mammas play which was very entertaining. A lovely day out in a magnificent setting!
Bx D — Google review
Such an amazingly kept castle! You can really envision what it would have been like. Information boards are scattered around and you can even listen to an audio description. We will definitely go back
James S — Google review
We went on a Reenactment weekend and it was absolutely fantastic. Everyone was so knowledgeable and friendly, big shout out to Boudicca and the Iceni tribe, and the Roman centurion & artefacts. Medieval musicians & also the field hospital dog! They were some of our favourites. There were demonstrations every hour, which we could watch from the top of the settlement or at eye level. We would have liked a few more involving children throughout the day so they could get involved. Toilets are based in the car park. The moat around the castle is a good run around to let off some steam. The castle itself is well preserved but empty so doesn't take long to look round. Would have liked a board in each room to show what the rooms may have looked like and how they'd be used. The kitchen fireplace for example was fantastic but tricky to explain to my children without images. No food served on site but there is a pub and cafe less than a 5 minute walk down from the site which serve good food for families and child & dog friendly. Would highly recommend a visit when there is a reenactment on. We bought an English Heritage membership (which you must do online as Castle Rising isn't owned by them) as the reenactment cost extra and this got us 50% off. Thank you to everyone who was part of the reenactments, we couldn't get round all of the tents as there was so much on covering a long period of history to cater to every interest!

Had an excellent visit to the site, which had a small visitor shop where you pay for entry, or show your membership card. There were also toilets on site which was good to have. Great place to look round, with multiple rooms and several levels to explore.

Castle Acre Priory, a well-preserved Cluniac monastic site dating back to 1090, is nestled in the picturesque countryside of East Anglia. The priory boasts an almost complete west front and priors lodge, offering fantastic photographic opportunities along the banks of the River Nar. Visitors can explore a recreated herb garden showcasing plants used by monks for medicines and food.
Beautiful priory ruins in peaceful countryside. Really friendly, helpful staff at the ticket office and gift shop. Impressive Priors Lodgings with a medieval painted ceiling and beamed roof as well as beautiful entrance porch. Highly recommend.
Erica B — Google review
Really liked the ruins of this priory. There is still enough left for you to get an idea of just how vast the set of buildings were. There's parking, picnic tables and a free audio guide to help you make the most of your visit.
Becky D — Google review
Henry VIII really went to town on the destruction of this place, thankfully a farmer took up residents in the monks lodgings so some has been preserved. The ruins are beautiful and gloomy, the architecture is fantastic and it would have been a sight to behold from miles around. The Cluniac order certainly knew grandeur. It's very peaceful and easy to wander around for hours just admiring the surroundings. A very nice cleanse for the mind. The gentleman working there was very polite and helpful, providing useful information and directions to the nearby castle. Plenty of parking.
Nicholas C — Google review
The staff on the entrance were really friendly and keen to give a good overview of the site. It's an easy walk from here to the castle ruins and the picturesque village. Although ruins, the priory is probably one of the larger/more complete ones that I've visited. A lot of information around the site. Some of the plaques could do with replacing because of sun damage. Interesting place to visit and completely dog friendly, with dogs even being allowed inside. You can see in places what the walls and beams would have looked like when they were fully painted, it must have been beautiful. This is what you join English Heritage for.
Laura T — Google review
Extensive ruins with the attatched priors house still intact with lovely windows. We took the audioguide which does bring it to life and explain what you are seeing very well. Beautiful setting. We had no idea of the scale of the place before visiting. Nice areas to sit and picnic. Well worth it. EH staff helpful as ever.

We arrived in the morning, it wasnt too busy. We purchased tickets in advance, but to be honest I'm not sure we even needed to, I guess not, if your conscience allows! My partner was particularly interested as this is where they filmed some scenes from Sandman, we can see why they picked the location as it's really beautiful. We spent about an hour walking around it, but that was mostly because it was cold (in July 🥹). The village of Castle Acre looks lovely, there was a pub/cafe as we drove towards the Priory. We sadly didn't walk from the Priory to the Castle remains, mostly due to the weather.
Claire W — Google review
Absolutely loved it! Visited on Sunday and there was hardly anybody there! Slightly rainy but nothing major. My husband and I love history and have visited quite a lot of historic sites but this is definitely one of our favourites now… simply amazing. We parked at the priory and spent quite a while exploring the spectacular buildings and remains, then we took a walk into the village to see the castle (well worth doing). I can’t get over the incredible amount of detail to the buildings and the fact you can still see Tudor roses in the beams in the prior’s lodgings. Highly recommended!

Nestled near Kings Lynn, the Gooderstone Water Gardens & Nature Trail is a picturesque retreat for nature lovers and garden enthusiasts alike. Spanning over six acres, this enchanting water garden features four serene ponds, a charming trout stream, and thirteen bridges that gracefully cross its tranquil waterways. The landscape is adorned with mature trees, vibrant shrubs, and an array of wild foliage alongside more structured floral displays.
Now the scenery is beautiful, crossing the bridges over the ponds is really enjoyable with little kids and there's loads of quaint additions hidden around the bushes and landscape. After following the arrows we found the tea room which was suitable for a quick pit stop depending on your style. Prices were very sensible and a small selection of hot sausage rolls and cakes. The bird hide is in good condition and the nature trail is a 10 minute walk around a wetland. Overall very peaceful place and perfect for a coffee date.

Beautiful, peaceful gardens. Lovely place to take visiting family and my 7 yr old daughter enjoyed picnicking with the pandas (!) and bird spotting, as well as galloping about on the hobby horse provided and visiting the craft fair which happened to be there. Cafe doesn't have the greatest range but does offer refreshments which are very welcome (don't expect a latte or cappuccino though!) We were lucky enough to spot a kingfisher while there too!
Steph M — Google review
Very beautiful place with good parking. The scented garden was amazing. Take deep breaths in there it's amazing. Beautiful insects and flowers and foliage everywhere. The water is so peaceful. If I didn't have kids with me I could have stayed all day and reached a zen level of inner peace.

I love this garden and keep coming back to its tranquility and spirit. The waterways, the beautiful borders, the nature trail across the stream, the abundant insect and bird life: this is a place to slow down and succumb to the presence of nature. Maintained as a labour of love, that love infuses the place and will touch you if you are quiet enough to let it.

Wonderful place to visit, peaceful and tranquil, fabulous walks. Little cafe with good choice of menue. There are plenty of seats to sit and enjoy being in nature. Would recommend to others.

What a wonderful place to visit. The natural gardens are so obviously lovingly tended by the owner and a couple of gardeners and all are happy to talk about how the gardens came about etc. You can visit all year round but the coffee shop is closed in the winter months but there are toilets open. At £7.50 each, entry is a bargain. Mostly paths or grass to walk on although nature trail might need boots . This is just an oasis of tranquility. If I lived closer I would love to re-visit at different times of the year. Not much local signage to it but its on the road through the village just at the end of the village not far from pub on the same side as the church
Toni M — Google review
Absolutely beautiful place! A real surprise and far more extensive than expected. This could easily be a two hour trip and for the price that is fairly reasonable. There is more than enough parking, toilets on site and a tea room which serves hot and cold snacks and drinks. There is a real range of nature here to see and enjoy. Lots of the plants are labelled with plaques to show what they are, but it’s nice to wander around and enjoy. We saw people with canes, in wheelchairs and they were able to enjoy the gardens as there are either paths or short grass around most of the site. There are also bird-watching hides to sit inside (though some people don’t know when to keep quiet!). Lots to see and do and a really lovely treat.

Dog friendly on a lead short enough that they can't reach the heathland as birds nest here. This is one of my favourite places, you can walk about 3 mile's to the end of the path and then take an alternative route half way back through the forest. More amazing views here. There are many species of bird, insects and you will also see Deer. Cows are often on the path too.

Value for money tshirt hoody and programme. Good quality and good price. Much appreciated thank you. Camping was ok but music until 5.30am on Friday was not on. Thankfully there was an announcement on Saturday saying music off at midnight in the camping area. Toilets good. Pit access good. Oh how about a skip in the camping field to put rubbish in. Portaloos ok. Racing was brilliant PA sounded great, entertainment good, liked the interviews in the bar, the RAF flyover, soapbox derby but such a long wait until the main event it must've taken 90 minutes to prep the track and welcome the drivers. Don't waste your money, my son like foot golf, and we play it many times, in essex, but this was dispointing, charge for 4 adults, £72.00 + ball hire £2.50e. 4 of the nine holes, some had no tee off flags, so unless you can find the square AstroTurf, it's confusing, some have small flags, where I start from, some Don't & some have fallen over, we played 18holes (9hole twice). I think it was just a lack of maintenance over all, you could quite clearly see they haven't been daily maintained, We felt, the four of us let down, if wasn't for it being a lovely day, and pleasant setting, I'd be inclined to ask for a partial refund.

£15 adult £10 child - THEN THEY CHARGE you to hire a ball on top, was informed YOU CAN BRING YOUR OWN BALL - to prevent having to hire one - so now you know. We actually really enjoyed it, there is an astro turf there however it’s an additional charge to hire an “ Astro appropriate ball “ of £6. Must have been our lucky day as the gentleman kindly gave us one for free. If there’s a few of you - you can have good fun and it’s something different to do for any child who enjoys football.

Probably won't be going here for a while, service really poor, just one girl running the bar and restaurant, had to ask for menus had to ask can we order, 3 of the starters were overcooked, one of the mains which was a expensive steak full of gristle and fat. Help yourself food to accompany your main self service and poor quality and choice salad and condiments just on a open table. Never mind another £278 down the drain.

Some of the houses are very quaint and the little cottages with their windows covered up ( window tax ) look fab in this setting. Captain George Vancouver Was born in King's Lynn (June 22, 1757 – May 10, 1798) was an officer in the British Royal Navy, best known for his exploration. His statue was erected here in 2001. Btw nice place just next to river. Beautiful area for a walk. Bit cold this time of year so better to have tea or coffee. History is all around. A lot of historical places. If u visiting Kings Lynn then make sure it’s in ur list with other places.

Bawsey Country Park, located just outside King's Lynn in rural west Norfolk, is a former sand quarry transformed into a popular destination for anglers, walkers, and families. The park features two lakes, including a large one with a sandy beach area perfect for relaxation and shallow water paddling. Visitors can enjoy spacious parking facilities and accessible paths suitable for wheelchairs. A new food and drink stand adds to the amenities available at the park.
Lovely place to go for a walk. The scenery is amazing. Such a hidden gem. There is a coffee shop, which serves food and drinks. Some beautiful higher viewpoints to overlook the lakes. Perfect for a family day out. Take a picnic or eat at the coffee. You have to pay for parking, but it's well worth a visit. We loved it!

Nice area for walking and wild swimming. Warm water.Nice sandy beach. Plenty of walking routes available. There are also toilets and small shop with refreshemnts. Easy access by public transport from Kings Lynn bus station: Daily return bus costs 5£ what and it is cheaper than two single tickets

Lovely walks surrounding the lakes, most of which are fenced off and private leaving the brickyard lake open, and bawsey large lake. Little cafe in the country park carpark was surprisingly cost effective and the burgers are not patties and we're really nice and cooked perfectly.
Mark D — Google review
This was our first time visiting this lovely country park. We arrived in the car park wasn’t that full Drove past drove past Mum‘s house which was good, so we went to the café first because we arrived at lunchtime, and had a couple of breakfasts, the prices were very good for what you got, a £6 was ample! We also had some coffees which weren’t expensive at all, you can even pay a pound for your dog to have a sausage! After our lunch which we went for a walk around the big lake, it did rain a little bit but that did not harbour our enjoyment of this beautiful lake as there’s plenty of shelter in the woods. We will definitely be back again. Car parking for a couple of hours was £5, not too bad probably the same as you would pay to go shopping somewhere else, there’s plenty more walks to go on, next time we will venture further. A lovely day.

The Chequer House Gallery is a tremendous addition to the wide range of cultural attractions in King's Lynn. The gallery itself is well appointed, it is large, light and airy, with seating so you can sit back and contemplate the artwork. The current West Norfolk Artists Association exhibition has an impressive number of works on display to suit all tastes - modern, landscape, portraits, still life etc etc. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and spent well over an hour looking round on a chilly winter's afternoon. I was told that the gallery cafe will be opening soon and that will make a perfect addition.

The Westacre Theatre company is highly praised for its exceptional performances and vibrant atmosphere. Their diverse range of shows, both indoors and in covered outdoor areas, are well worth attending. The Sheringham Shantymen open air concert held at this lovely venue provided a fantastic experience in beautiful surroundings. The theatre also hosts fundraising concerts, supporting causes such as Musicians for Ukraine. Additionally, visitors can enjoy coffee and cake on Thursdays and Saturdays mornings at this delightful location.
Such a warm, friendly and comfortable yet super professional Theatre! A rare gem set in such a gorgeous setting. Staff are welcoming and so helpful! Recently had the pleasure of an outdoor production of Wind In The Willows there and the staff not only gave us seats (as we forgotten to take our deck chairs!) they also found us umbrellas for shade and spare sun hats! Forgot to take a picnic but the drinks and snacks on offer were perfect. Highly recommend.

We came with friends, yesterday to see The lady in the van. Well done to cast and crew and Westacre Theatre. It was a wonderful portrayal. Each and every character well defined. The whole cast told the story with great skill and sensitivity. Not surprisingly the star of the show was the Lady in the van! Well done again. Scenery and effects top notch too

We had the privilege of watching the final nights performance of The Three Musketeers at the wonderful West Acre theatre tonight. Amazing production, full of humour smacking us rather cleverly from two fronts, the first was the script and the second, the incredible acting, Everyone was fantastic but special mention must go to the Queen (she played 3 well actually 4 parts), she was hilarious, I loved her performance, her timing and her over exaggeration of certain words was comedy genius. Please support this wonderful theatre, the location is amazing, the people who work there are lovely and it’s where actors cut their teeth and find their feet in the competitive world of acting and follow their dreams. We’re never disappointed by the West Acre productions and if you don’t go and visit and support this gem of a theatre, it may well not be there in future years to come. Keep up the fantastic work West Acre Theatre.

Nestled just 25 minutes from Kings Lynn, the Marham Aviation Heritage Centre is a hidden gem for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike. This charming museum, located near a functioning airbase, showcases an impressive array of exhibits that chronicle the evolution of RAF Marham from its early days to contemporary fighter jets. Visitors can marvel at unique artifacts like a bouncing bomb and even a deactivated nuclear bomb while engaging with passionate volunteers who are eager to share their extensive knowledge.
An excellent little museum just by the main gate to RAF Marham. It tells the history of the airbase from its inception to the present day with some very interesting exhibits including a bouncing bomb and an old, deactivated nuclear bomb. It is also staffed by very knowledgeable people so make sure you speak to them. Well worth a visit. We had a great time there.

Great little museum displaying the history of RAF Marham. The volunteers are enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable in sharing their passion of this Norfolk bomber base. Admission is free but encourages a small donation that helps run the museum which is a small price to pay for an interesting and informative piece of aviation history.

South Gate is a remarkable historical structure that dates back to the 15th century, likely built on the original foundations from the time of Edward III. This impressive gateway features a brick construction adorned with stone surrounds and elegant ashlar slabs on its facade. In the 19th century, pedestrian passageways were added to either side of its main entrance, enhancing accessibility. Visitors will find South Gate brimming with history and fascinating insights into both its evolution as a landmark and the town's development over time.
Kings Lynn was once surrounded by a Town wall of which a few fragments still remain today but the best preserved part is the South Gate. Probably built in the 15th century on the foundations of a gate from Edward III's time. It is built of brick with stone surrounds. It is normally open two days a week, you will need to check when.

It's going to be pedestrianised so somewhere for the crackhead and alcies to hang about, at the moment they gather, as best they can round the small number of fetid newsagents in the area. The small park near the Sputhgate is rank, the pond being full of beers cans, piiiiiii55 and pinfold filth. The area has potential but Lynn hadn't cottoned on to it, basically the main road yells 'I'm Georgian grandeur but look what you've done to me!' Nice enough during the day.

Saw this place advertised on our local village facebook page and decided to visit. We found the volunteers to be very friendly and welcoming and gave us some local history about the site. Although the museum is quite small it is full of information about the site spanning both world wars and how it was used postwar. Some of the volunteers had served at the site during its time as an operational RAF base and gave us an insight to their time there. Well worth a visit and you could easily send a couple of hours there. No entry fee but they would like visitors to make a voluntary donation on exit.
Nigel P — Google review
We just walked In on the off chance, and although they were not expecting us the chairman gave us a complete tour. What a legend. He knew his stuff and was overflowing with knowledge. The efforts in keeping this history alive are to be commended. Hours could be spent digesting the history and examining the interesting displays. Anyone with an interest in local or military history will find something here. The centre should get more support from the RAF as it undoubtably helps inspire future generations and helps older generations process the past and understand that they are valued and will be remembered. If you do visit please donate as much as you can. They gave us a 5 star tour and asked for nothing in return.

Nature preserve
Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve is an offshore barrier island known for its sand dunes, mud flats, and shingle beaches. It's a popular spot for sailing and birdwatching. The beach is famous for its delicate shells, making it a great place to collect souvenirs. Accessible only by boat or by wading through muddy channels at low tide, it's important to plan your visit carefully.
I love this island, especially when deserted, we have been so lucky to have the place almost exclusively to ourselves when we have visited💙
Maria B — Google review
Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve, located off the North Norfolk coast, is a pristine natural sanctuary offering breathtaking scenery and a tranquil escape. Accessible only by boat or a long walk across the tidal flats, the island is a haven for nature enthusiasts and those seeking solitude. The reserve is renowned for its diverse habitats, including salt marshes, sand dunes, and tidal lagoons. These varied landscapes create a unique environment for a wide range of wildlife. Birdwatchers will particularly appreciate the island's role as a crucial breeding ground for species such as terns and gulls. The ever-changing tides and seasonal shifts ensure that there's always something new to observe. Walking trails across the island offer stunning views of the surrounding sea and landscape. The trails are well-maintained, though some parts may be muddy or uneven, so sturdy footwear is recommended. The solitude of the island, combined with its natural beauty, makes it an ideal spot for peaceful walks and reflection. Scolt Head Island's isolation also means that it's relatively untouched by human activity, allowing visitors to experience nature in its most pristine form. The reserve is managed with a focus on conservation, ensuring that its ecological integrity is preserved while allowing for public enjoyment. Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve is a gem for anyone interested in natural beauty and wildlife. Its remote location and diverse habitats provide a unique opportunity to connect with nature in a truly serene setting. Whether you're exploring its trails, observing wildlife, or simply enjoying the tranquil environment, Scolt Head Island offers an enriching and memorable experience.
Pp4mnk P — Google review
Not of any interest unless you are a seasoned birdwatcher or nature enthusiast. There is a local business organising boat trips to the island, but unless you take one, and still decide to visit walking across the muddy channel at the low tide, be prepared for difficult conditions. It's easy to get stuck isolated by high water. Don't go unless you know what you're doing! Tide table is a must! But if you against all odds reach the island, you'll be awarded by a pristine land, nearly untouched by human activity, ruled only by birds, and tides. The reserve is closed from 1 April until August to protect nesting terms.
Jarek F — Google review
Been there on a 25 Celsius sunny day and it was brilliant. Sun up in the sky, sandy beaches, people really helpful and really cool when the tide came in and it became an island.

Nice place to walk around near the river. A few benches and some sculptures. Very pleasant and quiet in places. Cycle path parrellel to River Ouse. Access to South Lynn and town. Nearest official parking near Boal Quay. Suitable for dog walkers.

Lovely walk from King's Lynn via Harding's Pits and down the river to West Lynn then the ferry to complete the loop back.

The area does suffer from littering, this isn't helped by the low amount of bins in the area. However it's nice to be able to get away from busy roads/streets and go for a walk. Would be a huge shame if the council do decide to open up the bus lane near to here to normal traffic as this will spoil a quiet area and wildlife. I'm always walking past here and do see many different animals amongst the long grasses and trees.

1 year or more ago B4 my hernia I was very happy to volunteer, working outside in all weather's. It was a very lovely picturest place to work and walk through. I haven't been there since.
Malcolm S — Google review
Generally a pleasant enough walk. Situated alongside the riverfront so you get to observe a peaceful atmosphere. Several wooden sculptures exist that add some character to the park, which is otherwise somewhat lacking, but these sadly have been vandalised to varying extents. Several benches/resting facilities are available as well as a children's play area to the rear of the park. Fruits such as blackberries and apples can be picked during the warmer months. The area surrounding the "Whale" sculpture in particular is ill-advised for dog walkers due to harmful shards of glass and other forms of litter frequenting the area - not helped by the lack of dog bins and general waste disposal facilities. Wouldn't recommend walking through here at night due to delinquent behaviour and a lack of visibility during these hours. Issues also exist with waterlogging after a rainy day - wellies most certainly needed.
Ryan G — Google review
Alas, vandals have ruined the whale. Graffiti, arson, all exposed the whale to damage that opportunistic wasps saw as a home and it's RUINED. WHY do young people feel that they have to spoil things for everyone? The Pits consist of 5 acres of open space set with trees, blackberry bushes, paths, seats, and wildlife. Managed by volunteers it's a lesson in a project that isn't burdened by professionals who try to over manage things. The other week we saw a muncjack deer in the midst of the day. We're it not for those who vandalise, drop litter, dump waste, camp, it would be perfect. But despite all of that, it's a happy place to be.
