Beaches
Wells Next The Sea Beach is a charming seaside destination with wide expanses of golden sand and iconic beach huts. The beach's character changes with the tide, offering acres of sandy beach at low tide and a shallow lagoon-like expanse at high tide. The coastal village of Wells-Next-the-Sea, with its Georgian square, shops, and cafes, adds to the appeal. Accessible from the village, this long sandy beach stretches all the way to Holkham.
Stunning beach. Tide goes out very far and comes racing back as fast. Hence the alarm call. Quite an expanse of sandy beach with a lovely woods behind to provide variety for a return to the car park. Dog friendly. Toilets by car park. Accessible. There's a good bus shuttle service from the car park to the High St.

Absolutely love Wells-next-the-Sea beach! 🌊 It’s one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I’ve ever been to. The wide sandy beach seems endless, and when the tide is low, it feels like you’re walking on the edge of the world. The colourful beach huts look amazing against the golden sand — they make the whole place feel like a postcard. The air is fresh and salty, the views are breathtaking, and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. It’s perfect for long walks, watching the sunset, or just sitting quietly and listening to the waves. Every time I come here, I feel recharged and inspired. Truly a magical spot on the Norfolk coast 💙

Great place to visit for all the family. Crabbing kits sold with bait in pretty much all the shops or you can hire right by the Quay both options are very reasonably priced. Mile walk to the beach or you can get a bus which runs every 10min, 2 adults and one child £5 single.. fantastically clean beach and the Quay entrance and low tide is about 2ft deep when low tide so great spot to do some paddling safely..
Tim S — Google review
Another lovely beach. Paid parking but when we reached the beach it said no dogs. It was not well sign posted and a kind man told us to walk along under the trees to left left and up some steps over the dunes and we would be on the dog friendly part of the beach. Had he not helped we would have left. Once on the beach it was lovely…huts along the edge and some nice time spent.
Lynn M — Google review
What a lovely place to visit for a day. The main street is brimming with individual little shops selling all of the things we want but don't need, candles, throws, pottery, clothing, there's something for everyone. It seems quite popular as it was very busy when we visited. The Fleece pub is nice with a good sized beer garden. The walk to the beach is quite a way but worth a visit with the coloured beach huts etc. Quite a little gem and well worth a couple of hours.
Alison J — Google review
Although I have been to Wells Next The Sea before in the past this was the first time I had ever been to the beach as it's quite some distance from the town and didn't realise it was even there, having said that, don't expect it to be a quiet place as I have been on many many beaches all around the country and Channel Islands and this beach was without a doubt the busiest I have ever seen, although it was August Bank holiday weekend so I can't comment on what it's like normally but on the day I was there it was rammed with people, still a very enjoyable day out though, this is also the first beach I've seen which appears to be in two halves separated by what is basically a river (when the tide is out) which some people were swimming across to reach the much less populated side of the beach, it's interesting to see a beach split like this. Much of the sand here is perfect for sand castles with a mix of textures although some parts of the beach look to contain sticky clay so maybe avoid those areas (mainly where the RNLI vehicles regularly travel across the sand). There's also a beautiful pine forest walk right next to the sand (behind the beach huts) which is very sandy and hilly so may not be for everyone but if you can manage walking up sand hills it's definitely worth it. There's a lovely cafe with a large outdoor seating area here too where we stopped for an ice-cream to top off our day out. I'll definitely be back at some point!
Del C — Google review
Gorgeous beach with beautiful sands. Plenty of space and worth walking down the beach a bit to get more space as it can be busy. There are plenty of safety warnings to help you have a safe and fun visit.
Sophie P — Google review
North Norfolk has got the best beaches. Again, absolutely amazing and huge beach. We loved colourful beach huts, pinewoods and you can even spot the seals. Facilities are closed by, you’d be pleased to know.

Transportation service
The Wells & Walsingham Light Railway offers a delightful 30-minute journey on a 10" narrow gauge railway from Wells to Walsingham, covering 4 miles of picturesque Norfolk countryside. While the open carriages provide unobstructed views, tall bushes may limit visibility at times. At Walsingham, visitors can explore the Saxon village and its historic sites, including the Abbey ruins.
Loved it. Charming little journey on an old fashioned enthusiasts little railway run mostly by volunteers. Had a little snack, homemade and tasty while waiting for the next train. Toilets on site. Well worth a visit. Pet friendly. If you catch an early enough train you will have time to visit Walsingham village, Abbey, church and Shrine before the last train back at 4.15 which are amazing . Loved it all
Lindsey H — Google review
What a unique, delightful experience the railway is! Run by enthusiastic volunteers it is a fun 30 minutes thru lovely countryside x 2. Starting just outside Wells next the Sea the journey goes to Walsingham and then back again. Full of history, the time from arrival until the return journey on the train is just enough to explore this shrine town and include a visit to the Read and Digest Tearoom. (Amazing food) The volunteers definitely deserve a mention - from the chap on guard duty as you wait the train arrival, the lovely lady in the cafe serving homemade sausage rolls and other goodies, the ticket collector who takes the money easily and promptly, the driver who gets you there & back safely and for our trip especially the wonderful, personable lady guard. We shared a carriage with her on our return journey from Walsingham back to Wells and we so enjoyed her company.
Pauline D — Google review
What a fun day out. The staff and volunteers of this are brilliant and they all deserve a mention for the great customer service and dedication to running and keeping this service going. The Wells end of the service has the signal box which is so interesting and the outside carriages that serve as seating for visitors whilst waiting for the train. There is a small cafe and toilets there as well as parking. We took our dog on the ride and everyone was so accommodating and kind to him as quite nervous. Must also mention the beautiful scenery enroute. We loved all of it. Great for all the family.
R H — Google review
For world's longest 10and 3/4 inch Railway far from world class exp. Car parking is in a field from a track And homemade direction board to Shop. No ticket office just someone standing taking tickets. No obvious history about railway or Info leaflets/ boards or pamphlets. Staff when asked about history appeared most reluctant to give information. Carriages had worn appearance And open carriage seat was wet. Shop had reasonable array of snacks and drinks. Ride great...spotted some interesting wildlife and walk around Walsingham Delightful and shrine history fascinating. If going on railway go from wells end as nothing to do there!! 12.50 for diesel 30 min journey each way Was expensive for basically straight track with no stops and nothing at Walsingham platform and basic set up at wells. Not even able to look in sheds at the garretts steam engines. One for enthusiasts only me thinks
Mark B — Google review
Friendly staff, small buffet at Wells end for coffee etc, merchandise. Best done in good weather as can be a bit wet onboard in rain. Great views of farmland , churches and nature generally. Lovely engines in use and great to see an old trackbed in use. Worth a 1/2 day trip.
Nick F — Google review
Took the train from the request stop at Warham into Wells and back. We loved it. The guard and driver were so friendly as were the staff at the station in Wells. The train is dog friendly and was a perfect way to explore the area.
Mary B — Google review
Great little narrow guage railway near to Wells Next The Sea. The steam train ride is about 30 mins through the local countryside. The station at Wells has a small shop and cafe with seating outside in old train carriages. The staff were super friendly and very enthusiastic.
Neil B — Google review
Such good fun, and operated by a great bunch of guys. We loved the train ride down to Walsingham, and spent a few enjoyable hours exploring the small and historic town. The train carriages are small and rattle along the narrow gauge track, taking in lovely countryside and views. The closed carriages are hilariously small, and well worth a try. The fully open carriages put you right in the fresh air, steam, smoke and smells. The whole family loved it.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Wells-next-the-Sea, The Globe Inn is a modern pub that beautifully marries local flavors with a cozy atmosphere. This former coach house, renovated in 2018, features an inviting outdoor dining area perfect for romantic evenings under the stars. Guests can indulge in a menu filled with classic British dishes and seasonal specialties crafted from fresh local ingredients. From pan-fried scallops to slow-cooked pork belly, there's something to tantalize every palate.
The Globe Inn is in the perfect location. We had a small king room which was very spacious, the bathroom was lovely and clean, we had everything we needed. The breakfast was really good and the service was great. The staff were all really friendly and made our stay wonderful. We will 100% stay at the Globe again and will recommend it. Wells next the sea is a lovely seaside town, a dog friendly place and the globe is also dog friendly which is for us is a must
MS D — Google review
Absolutely love The Globe. Always sure of a friendly welcome for us and our dogs. Haven’t been back for a year or so but had a wonderful time. The rooms are still lovely if a little warm (could do with being able to turn off the towel rail). But there was a little attention to detail missing in the rooms and in the pub. I’m assuming a very busy summer season with wear and tear has impacted on this. Thank you to Nikki who always goes above and beyond to look after us and treats us like old friends. Surprised she’s not running this place yet!
Dave H — Google review
Unfortunately we had a really awful experience here. We were staying locally and struggled to get an earlier booking for food, so the first table we could get was 8.15. We were early, so had a drink at the bar while we waited. We then had to seat ourselves as no one returned to show us to the table. We weren't given menus, water, cutlery or napkins. So we repeatedly had to approach the bar and request extra items. We finally managed to order and we didn't get mains until after 9.15 (an hour after arrival). The starters were fine, then we were asked about dessert before we got the mains. The mains were dreadful. The fish batter was overcooked, the chips were old and reheated. The peas were just a watery mess. The curry sauce was just congealed oil. The chicken schnitzel was also a congealed paste on top of just fried matter. Similar case with the chips. The "coleslaw" seemed to be left over lettuce in a watery pile. At this point we had to complain and request the food to be taken away. The manager was helpful and offered more food to be given (as well as not charging us) but by this point, it was nearly 10pm. We were tired, hungry and a bit miserable. The Chestnut group has taken over many restaurants / hotels recently and the food has taken a massive hit. The quality has dropped in all locations and the price keeps doubling. It is simply not worth it. Such a shame as you used to be able to trust this brand, but now, I will not be returning to anything Chestnut owned. Loyal customers deserve better.
Imogen H — Google review
The food was absolutely phenomenal. We came during Wells carnival so it was very busy, but we were seated quickly and the staff were very attentive and friendly. Amazing atmosphere in the pub, we were served by Emilie and she really helped make the night unforgettable. I can't recommend this place more!
Gaia D — Google review
We were celebrating my parents 60th Wedding anniversary while staying in Wells and decided to have a meal at the Globe. The choice & quality of food was outstanding as well as the service received. It would have been nice if there was a complementary drink/dessert offered in recognition for this special celebration like other establishments do.
Karen T — Google review
Myself and husband had a fantastic stay at the globe. It was a very busy bank holiday but staff were very efficient and organised. We booked for dinner too which was delicious, ordered a lovely bottle of wine and enjoyed the seafood platter! Room was at the front above bar but went very quiet and peaceful at night. Room was very comfy and clean. We would 100% recommend and will be returning again 😀
Sam W — Google review
I've stayed at both there townhouses down the road and the rooms directly at the Inn. Both are extremely lovely and you can't go wrong with either. Very luxurious which is surprising considering the price isn't breaking the bank. Food is great too. Bar is always crowded, the place is popular.
Cyrus C — Google review
We stayed for a few days with our elderly parents/in-laws. Excellent location in rear courtyard of lovely popular pub at the top of the main street. Short walk past the shops (almost all local, not chains) to the harbour. Wells is lovely. Comfortable, clean and well equipped rooms, good firm bed. Only one small window but large fan kept in cool when needed. Staff service and breakfast were faultless. Good food/menu for the evening that we ate in the pub. Definitely recommended

It's not the actual carnival, I looked at the web site with a view to being a stall holder. Sorry Wells carnival but the way you operate is a recipe for bankruptcy unless we charge exorbitant rates for our produce. In the end it's the customer that pays.

Nestled at the picturesque end of the quay in Wells Next to the Sea, French's Fish Shop Ltd is a beloved family-run establishment that has been delighting visitors with its traditional fish and chips since 1921. With over 90 years of history, this charming eatery offers both dine-in and takeaway options, allowing you to savor their perfectly cooked fish and crispy chips while enjoying stunning views of the harbor.
Me and My partner are vegetarians and gluten-free. The vegitarian and gluten free options taste so good! a great selection of vegetarian options too! Highly recommended. We even got handed gluten-free vinegar. Will go again 5*
Jakeshot — Google review
Best Fish n Chips in Wells! We've been coming here for years and the quality is always incredible. Cod is fresh, lovely batter and nice scampi too. It is worth the queue, promise. The staff are flat out these summer months but still are smiley and efficient (Thank you). 😁
Sophia S — Google review
It's clearly popular. Queued 10-15 minutes "small fish and chips please", "what" "one small fish and chips for £8.10 please" "£8.10" I handed over cash without being thanked, food was shoved in the box and handed over in the box, to which I said Thank you. Yes, it was busy, but as I like others had waited patiently I'd anticipate Please/thank you/pardon. The wall opposite was busy with everyone eating. The wasps are an issye.
Claire B — Google review
Second time of using as on holiday first day great food queued for ages. Today raining no queue ordered small cod and chips and regular cod and chips. The small cod as per picture needed glasses to see the cod hardly no cod inside, a little, I mean, not even a mouthful, just a lump of batter shocking. We were taking back so did not see what we were given till getting back to the cottage. The person battering must have seen no fish to batter it was shocking. Would never go again should have gone back but weather prevented.
Tracey M — Google review
I had been longing for proper fish and chips at the seaside at Wells for ages. My partner is gluten free, so we rarely get to eat chip shop chips together. This place has a wide ranging menu for a chip shop and IT HAS GLUTEN FREE FISH AND CHIPS - which my partner says was unexpectedly good! Two very satisfied customers.
Jane P — Google review
Take-away only. Cod was excellent. Juicy, crisp, light batter. Delicious. Wonderful. Chips also really good. Others have mentioned a lack of warmth and friendliness, and I do agree but am conflicted. If you're starving after a walk and want great food in a hurry, you don't need to make friends. However, as in all cases, why would you not direct your staff to be as pleasant as possible to people?
David P — Google review
Looked like a popular takeaway. Ordered the small cod and chips. Paid what I thought was a reasonable price. Although I had to queue, it wasn't for long. The staff friendly and efficient. Waited for about 2 minutes and my food was ready, which was piping hot. A great feature of this takeaway is the ability to add your own salt and vinegar. I am usually dubious about fish and chips, the chips usually being soggy and the fish undercooked. The fish and chips that I had today was the best that I had in years. The fish was lovely and a decent portion for a small portion. The chips were lovely as well. Definitely will be coming back when next in town.

The best and delicious Fish and Chips in Norfolk. Today we celebrated 100 years anniversary. Free cupcakes and prosecco. The main course of the day includes chips and small pieces of cod fish and cost 4 pounds.

Housed in a beautifully restored Grade II listed building, this vibrant spot features a funky bistro on the ground floor alongside four inviting guest rooms above. It’s an ideal destination for both locals and travelers seeking delicious meals served all day in a warm atmosphere.
Went for breakfast with the family and would highly recommend. Full English was superb, well cooked and really tasty. Salmon and eggs was delicious. Son had pancakes and he raved about them. Would definitely visit again
Stuart F — Google review
Didn't stay, only ate. For somewhere fully booked for days I expected much better quality. We had the nachos and veg curry. Cheese was not well melted or distributed on the former and the latter was average tasting, not worth the price. Service was great though and perhaps the meat/fish options are superior. Overall better places to eat in Wells I believe, for dinner at least.

I didn't stay here so reviewing the restaurant only but it was excellent. Great service, delicious food and reasonable prices. Best nachos and burger I've had in a long time! Would definitely return next time I'm in the area.

I really enjoyed our breakfast (fry up) here. The only negative was its price for the amount. Either a bit more food or a few quid less would have been perfect!
Jon W — Google review
We don’t stay here but popped in for breakfast and glad we did. Really good full English breakfast, proper bacon, proper sausage all cooked very well and one of the best full English breakfast I’ve had for a very long time. My wife had the Veggie breakfast which she really rated and my daughter had the banana pancakes which she said they were very tasty but could have had a little more toppings. Great cup of yorkshire tea and a cappuccino was good too. Very friendly staff. Throughly recommend this place, I will be back again. Well done top marks from us.

Great location. Nice airy room. Unless I’m mistaken our expensive breakfast was cooked sometime well before our arrival and just heated to order. Bacon really dry and chewy. Eggs not hot. Coffee was bitter and watery. Puzzling why it was so busy for a Sunday morning.
John — Google review
Had the most delicious and best cooked veggie breakfast I've ever had here. Every element from the wilted spinach to the eggs cooked exactly as I requested, to the mushrooms was perfect. Friendly & swift service. Outstandingly good.
J H — Google review
On a very breezy morning we decided breakfast out was a better bet than trying to cook at the campsite. It was a good sign when we saw plenty of reservations on the tables when we arrived. The breakfasts we had we excellent. I really enjoyed the full English with great quality bacon and herby sausage. My wife loved the Eggs Fungi Florentine, with just the right amount of hollandaise (i.e not swimming in it). Great coffee and orange juice too and lovely service from start to finish. A great place for breakfast and brunch, will have to return one evening to try the rest of the menu!

Wells Maltings stands as a vibrant cultural hub nestled in the heart of Wells, showcasing the best of arts, heritage, and community spirit. This historic building, originally constructed in the mid-19th century for malting barley, has been beautifully repurposed into a dynamic space featuring an impressive theatre/cinema, galleries, and community areas. Visitors can enjoy a delightful café and bar that serves up delicious treats alongside quality coffee.
Lovely light spacious place with exhibitions on history of Wells' inhabitants from French conquest. Shows important kinds of employment with much fishing and shipping. More interest upstairs. Tourist information in same building with friendly, helpful staff. Attractive cards and postcards on sale. Very nice tearoom and bar there too offering delicious cakes.

We visited the Maltings often during the first weekend of carnival week. 1st 2nd and 3rd August 2025. The staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient. Its great to have an information desk. We visited health and wellness event and the stall holders were brilliant 👏 I had a Rheiki treatment 😀 with Lorraine of Healing hands which was brilliant. Becky Lawless who was working with Jo on tropics stand gave hand scrubs and facials with beautiful tropic products and it was beautiful. My brother and I also enjoyed reflexology treatments a truly magical experience. On Sunday we visited the arts and crafts exhibition and made some purchases which was ran by volunteers. There is a huge event calender displayed for the whole week of carnival which is really helpful. It should be the first place to visit to plan your week. The cafe is popular and very reasonable priced. The toilets are well managed and kept spotlessly clean.

Perfect little theatre space and a great pint of Wherry. A real credit to the community, close to the best fish and chips on the North Norfolk coast at French's and those fabulous, rentable beach huts, calm sands, a seal if you're lucky (we were!) and an abiding sense of restfulness. Marvellous for a moment, perfect for at least a week.
David L — Google review
Lovely place with great walks and good play area for kids. Nice shops and food well worth a visit.

The Maltings is a wonderful place, a theatre, a movie venue, a meeting hub, a cafe, a restaurant. Open air on a hot day with an iced coffee nothing better but oh dear. There is a young staff member serving tables who is the glumest rudest most offhand girl one would have the misfortune to meet. Abrupt, literally threw my wrapped biscuit on the table not a smile not a thank you. Why is she there giving the venue a bad name?

We have just had the best tour with Nick round the harbour at Wells and through the Marshes. I took a tour as a private charter which I highly recommend. We were 6 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs and it was brilliant! Thanks Nick!

What a great evening experience, at sunset, slowly sailing around the marshes before heading back to Wells

A great way of enjoying Wells Harbour. Nick is both knowledgeable and amusing, and able to hold the attention of our 2,4 and 6 year old grandchildren, while telling us more about the harbour than we have learned in the last 30 years. The boat was scrupulously clean and neat. A great excursion!

This was such a lovely time we had with our host Mike, very informative about the area and the wildlife that we saw 👍 We went on the last tour of the day which was the shore, beach and harbour. The weather was just perfect thankfully and got a beautiful picture.

Had an awesome trip to see the seals at Blakeney Point, off Morston Quay. There were hundreds of them! Wells Harbour Tours were very helpful and professional. If you are staying in North Norfolk this is a must see attraction.

Wells-next-the-Sea Beach Cafe is a charming spot located on the A149, offering a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful beach. The village has a rich history dating back to before the Doomsday Book in 1086, reflecting both French and Latin influences. Situated in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this cafe provides outdoor and indoor seating with a beach theme.
A fabulous "by the beach cafe". Clean, very clean and very well presented and supported by some friendly and willing to help staff. A great range of hot and cold drinks as well as a good range of hot and cold food. An excellent find 👏 👌

Wells-Next-the Sea Beach Cafe has certainly expanded over the years to meet the ever growing needs. It has the perfect location with being a short walk through the pine tree woods to this stunning, unspoilt beach. I really prefer out of season now as the cafe is overwhelming during busy periods. Noisy and crowded. In my opinion I think food and beverages are over priced here and over rated. I miss the days of hot tea pots and china cups with a teaspoon instead of paper cups with the tea bags dangling and wooden stirrers....I miss sandwiches made to order and homemade cakes and quiche. Didn't give full stars for service as it's basically self service with drinks. The cafe is dog friendly. Ideal for families and groups of people. Parking available but gets full quickly during busy periods. ( Pay at meter ). Will return to the beach cafe when visiting as it's the only one near the beach ⛱️ 🏖️
Pam : — Google review
Good choice of beverages, both cold and hot. There are also some snacks and ice cream available, unfortunately cakes are packed and processed rather than fresh. Didn't try any food, just stopped for hot drinks. Coffee was very average, hot chocolate more sugar shot made from powder. Quite pricy I would say... On the positive side, there are plenty of tables, both inside and outside. It's very cosy inside and there's very nice decor. The staff were absolutely friendly and helpful. And it's dog friendly place which is always a plus.

Large and modern cafe next to the Wells beach parking area, with easy access to the beach and to the walks down the coast. Busy but friendly and efficient. Decent selection of cafe style fare, and reasonable prices given the location and convenience.

I love coming to Wells and the Beach Cafe is lovely. The food is great, plenty of seating and absolutely lovely staff. We tied the pizza from the hut this year. The Hog Roast special was superb. Staff could not have been better. Friendly and helpful. I wish you great success as you certainly deserve it.

Nice place, nice beach. Big car park but full before 10am. Unfortunately I have to edit my review. The breakfasts are very good, baked sausages, bacon and various other things. But the food from the fridges is a bit of a cheat. The BBQ chicken is more of a salad with a bit of BBQ chicken. There is a new pizza place. Unfortunately the pepperoni pizza for £14 is a pizza with a lot of cheese and a few slices of pepperoni. There is more pepperoni on the pizza from Aldi for £2. It is worth going for breakfast but the pizza is better to buy from a restaurant in the city centre.
Piotr P — Google review
Very good. Had Pizzas. Bank holiday Monday in August, so probably one of the busiest days of the year. Yes there was a bit of a queue, yes a bit of a wait for the Pizza's but really not too bad. Girl behind the counter was really friendly and positive, pizza were great, and not bad value. Also had beer, so a beer sitting on the bench in the sun made the wait feel like nothing. Well done guys, we are in Wells quite often so we will be back.

Holkham Hall Estate is a magnificent property located in Norfolk, England. The estate boasts a stunning 18th-century hall with opulent state rooms and an impressive art collection. Surrounding the hall are beautiful gardens, expansive parklands, and a picturesque lake. Visitors can explore the diverse landscape on foot or by bike, taking in the serene woodlands and coastal marshes. The estate also offers a variety of activities including boating, birdwatching, and wildlife spotting.
Beautiful house with fascinating pillars. Huge ground and garden. A lot to explore and discover..highly recommended
Cynthia G — Google review
We enjoyed every minute of the 5 hours we spent at Holkham! The hall itself is absolutely exquisite, and staff are friendly throughout, always willing to answer questions and part with their knowledge. We liked the presence of a piano in the entrance hall, which is available to anyone with a bit of talent to play as they like. Nice touch. The estate is vast, so we had planned to rent bicycles, but unfortunately, the weather didn't allow for that. But thanks to the weather clearing up later on, we got to visit the gardens, which are stunning! Offerings in the gift shop, we felt, were a bit limited. I usually bring home a tea towel from all the places I visit in Britain, but I wasn't able to find any suitable ones. One other little thing: When booking online, I had also prepaid for the car park, but didn't remember on the day that I had done so, which meant that we were made to pay for parking again. I would have wished for the parking attendant to ask first, rather than to just collect the money. Later, when I realised this, we were able to get the money refunded at the visitor centre, where staff were really nice about it. So no real harm done, although I feel that the situation could have been avoided.

Well worth a visit to this stunning stately home. The hall has a magnificent entrance way and stunningly beautiful rooms to admire. The scenery is awesome with huge numbers of deer running throughout the grounds. Courtyard cafe offers superb food and good coffee. Holkham village is also a delightful area to admire. The walled gardens are a good walk from the main hall but are truly spectacular.

Beautiful nature and stunning landscape. Lake, Herds of Deer are walking and running there freely. Flocks of ducks in Lake and around. Large lawn for families to relax. Unfortunately I couldn't visit the hall building, it's open 10:00-15:00. The complex is open for until 17:00.

I went specifically to see the Holkham Stories exhibit on this visit. The exhibition was very well planned, interactive elements made it suitable for a range of ages and interest levels. The estate is forward thinking and sets a great example of how to run a tourist site alongside nature conservation, farming and local people's everyday lives. In the past I have walked around the deer park, visited the shop and cafe as well as the walled garden - I would recommend it all.

The Lifeboat Horse is a stunning sculpture that pays homage to the noble horses that once transported the lifeboat over two miles from the quay to Holkham Gap. Crafted by artist Rachael Long using steel bars and whisky barrels, this impressive 3-meter tall piece stands proudly on the sands of Wells-next-the-Sea's harbour. At low tide, it emerges fully, while at high tide, it appears to gracefully swim through the waves.

With experienced crew members like John and Laura, who provide top-notch service and knowledge, this charter ensures an unforgettable experience.
What a day, Captain and crew were brilliant from the moment we stepped foot on the boat! And if it was possible the fishing was even better! Fish after fish for 8 hours solid! Nice relaxed fun atmosphere on board with plenty of tips and tricks thrown in! All gear was excellent and well maintained! Could not recommend enough and will be booking again for next year as soon as I can!

John and his partner Laura are a puckah team. I've been looking forward to this for 2 years and it was well worth the wait. Johns knowledge of the water and the right spots to drop with the right winds was top draw. He knew exactly where the Tope were gonna be and we all hooked up all day. Plus a little treat of cooking up the fresh mackerel we caught by the bucket load was a nice touch too. Can't wait to do it again the strength in those fish is addictive !!! Thank you Captain 💪

Absolutely fantastic skipper on this boat. We booked the boat for 5 of us for a 12 hour trip. The skipper was not shy of using fuel to get us out to the right spot.He put us on the rope and we had 21 to the boat and 6 lost. Highly recommended.

I booked a 12 hour tope trip with 4 other family and friends last week. John and Laura are very welcoming skippers; they are knowledgable and the boat is spacious and very well set up. We had a great day, loads of fish but even when we were catching they did their very best to ensure we continued to have good sport. Plenty of brews too, always a bonus! Hire gear is spot on if you don’t have your own and even if you take your own rods and reels, leads and rigs are provided.
Karl B — Google review
I have been twice now, first time we caught nothing but a sun burn. The fish play their own game. Second time caught a few Mackerel and everybody caught two Tope. Safety is the first concern, bait, rods, tea and coffee provided. Rod usage and casting assistance provided if needed. Online booking is easy. Its a great day out. I have two more trips booked. Needless to say I will be booking more. Thank you.

Dawn start and a long motor to a mark a little farther out. Great hunch by the skipper and we finished with 21 to the boat. Already looking at next year. Thanks for the great fishing and plenty of brews. Some excellent Mackies as well. Tasted great. thanks to Laura for those.

Nestled along the stunning Norfolk Coast Path, the RNLI Wells Lifeboat Station has a rich history that spans over 150 years. Originally established in 1869, the previous station became a beloved landmark before its demolition in November 2022 to pave the way for a modern all-weather facility.
Visited today as have a family member named on the boat. A big thank you to the staff at the station for helping us find his name on the lifeboat and for looking after the dog while we went to find it. The Staithe Gallery offers a diverse collection of art, including paintings, prints, multimedia pieces, pottery, and sculpture. One of its highlights is the "Evidence of Trafalgar" exhibition featuring artwork made from reclaimed timbers and copper taken off HMS Victory during her restoration. Co-owner David Roger Burton's enthusiasm for Trafalgar and HMS Victory is infectious as he showcases his bespoke furniture made from these historic materials.
Thank you very much to David for the unique bookends he created for my son's 18th birthday. When I first discussed the idea with David, he was helpful and offered a range of options. The final product included materials from HMS Victory and Blenheim oak. While on holiday in Wells, my son thought he was having a browse in the Gallery looking at the HMS Victory collection. David had thoughtfully displayed the final product on a prominent stand and my son whispered to me how wonderful to own those. It was a lovely moment to tell him they were for him. We hope you can reopen again before long and look forward to visiting again in 2021

Called in the gallery mainly to look at the 'Evidence of Trafalgar' exhibition. David, co-owner of the gallery, was more than happy to talk about Trafalgar and HMS Victory; his enthusiasm is infectious and it was fascinating to see all the pieces for sale, that he'd made from the re-claimed timber and copper, taken off Victory during her restoration. The gallery is much more than this though, with a diverse collection of art, from pottery and sculpture, to paintings both abstract and landscape... the beach/seascapes are especially atmospheric. Definitely worth a visit.

Holkham Hall is a stunning stately home located in Norfolk, England. This magnificent Palladian mansion is surrounded by acres of parkland and is close to the beautiful north Norfolk coast. Visitors can explore the ornate interiors, including the Bygones Museum, which offers a glimpse into the past. The estate also features an 18th-century walled garden, woodland play area, and a museum showcasing art collections and restored Victorian kitchens.

Great place for a day out. Lovely walking around the grounds, a good-quality cafe, and an interesting house. The number of deer in the park is a standout feature. The walled garden is very impressive and well worth the short walk, as it’s not near the house. A big thank you to the person at visitor reception who refunded one of our tickets when one of us was unable to attend.
Richard N — Google review
This is one of the most interesting great houses we have had the pleasure to see. Built between 1734 and 1764 and privately owned by the Coke (pronounced “Cook”) family since then, it is a success story that integrates history and farming. Although tourism clearly makes up a very significant chunk of its revenue, the 25,000 acre estate’s farming, forestry and construction operations - all of which adhere to agricultural, ecological, conservation, and sustainability best practices - fill the coffers. Before you tour the William Kent-designed Palladian house, visit the massive walled garden, rent a bike for the day, attend a special event, or walk for free in the park, please take time to explore the exceptional Holkam Stories Exhibit just past the ticket office. Not only does it set the stage for your day, describe the owners, and discuss the origin of the Coke (read: Bowler) hat, but it outlines how cutting edge technology, now and in the past, has often been integrated into the estate's operations. In fact, this exhibit is so good we spent a full hour there! As for the house, it is - as one would expect - spectacular, but since it is a working home there is not as much information available in the rooms as one might encounter at other great homes (no matter: ask one of the excellent volunteers). The vast walled garden, a 15-minute walk from the house, is worth a visit to see how successfully it is being brought back to life after years of neglect. The gift shop is well stocked with a wide variety of local items. All told, we found our day at Holkam fascinating and more than a bit surprising. Allow at least four hours (but we spent over six).

Stayed on site afew times and use the Victoria as a place to meet family for lunch/dinner. It’s an amazing place. The deer calmly roam the site whilst the building itself is in incredible condition. It’s well worth a walk around the inside as the guides are fantastic and really give an insight into its history. The playground is also amazing and really well laid out. We enjoyed our family holiday in Holkham, the cottage was very comfortable and conveniently positioned next door to a non-rowdy public house, the Hero. We ate at the Hero and it was a pleasant experience, the food was good, the seating comfortable. Once in the house the Pub's customers couldn't be heard. We had a very pleasant week's holiday. The beaches are amazing, large expanses of nice soft sand, fringed with conifer woods and the occasional deciduous tree, when the tide goes out there is a massive area of golden sand but also a fair bit of mud, so keep your eyes on your kids.

There is a path through the sand which is mixed with volcanic sand so it is very compacted and perfect for wheelchairs! The beach is dog friendly and accessed via a wooden boardwalk. This is fairly steep so be careful, especially if it is wet. The beach is super scenic, with pine trees and sea lavender. There is loads and loads of parking, a cafe and toilet facilities.

Holkham Nature Reserve is a breathtaking slice of Norfolk’s natural beauty and an absolute haven for wildlife lovers and walkers alike. Covering a stunning mix of landscapes – from salt marshes and sand dunes to pine woodlands and vast beaches – it offers something special in every direction. The reserve is teeming with birdlife, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. You’ll often spot wading birds, geese, and even birds of prey, especially if you walk along the boardwalks or venture out towards the hides. The walking trails are well-marked and range from relaxing strolls to more adventurous hikes with incredible views of the coastline.

Lovely beach, very large sandy area with a wooded area behind it. Dog friendly. If you are travelling there, it's easy to park on Lady Anne's Dr, good facilities at The Lookout including picnic tables, toilets, cafe, area to wash sand off your feet, get a drink for your dog.

The first time I've ever been on a beach with my wheelchair, what a feeling. It might not be accessible for all and improvements are needed, but it's a flipping good starting point. Plus theres the Lookout, with cafe, accessible toilets and stunning views, not to mention a 2km trail to Wells beach, although it's somewhat stoney/bumpy. But it gives you belief in change and a quietened mind.

A lovely visit for a quiet and peaceful walk. A nice wooden walkway takes you from the little tearoom through the pine trees to a wide open space. Despite the wind and shower we had a lovely walk with friends. Plenty of parking.

I went here with young children, quite a long walk to beach from car park for little ones and then I was completely unfamiliar with Norfolk beaches being so vast, we never made it to the actual sea! Nice walk and kids loved splashing in puddles.
