Falun, located in central Sweden's Dalarna County, has a rich history as a major copper-producing center. The city is famous for the expansive Falun Mine and its Great Pit, with an on-site Mining Museum showcasing interactive exhibits about the mine's past. Visitors can explore folk art, furnishings, and costumes at the Dalarnas Museum in town. Additionally, Sundborn village to the northeast is home to Carl Larsson-gården, the former residence of artist Carl Larsson.

Falun Mine, located in Falun, Sweden, is a historic copper mining site that offers underground tours and walks around its vast mining works. The mine was once the world's most important copper mine by the 17th century and played a significant role in funding wars and contributing to Sweden's international aspirations. Visitors can explore the above-ground area, which includes the Mine Museum, heritage outbuildings, cafes, and boutiques.
Very interesting place, you‘ll learn a lot about one Sweden‘s most important mines. There a several entrance tickets, but I would recommend the „underground package“ which includes a guided underground tour. The museum is also interesting, but not as impressive as the mine. Nevertheless it’s very child friendly and the can a try and lean a lot about copper.
Manuel P — Google review
I loved the experience. Our guide knew the history of it so well. The story of Fet Mats, Kåre the Goat linger on. The orange gear we wore makes me remember this adventure. I will come again because the museum and miners homes were closed that day.
Kimama — Google review
A can’t miss UNESCO site in Sweden. The guided tour in the mine was well worth it! Friendly for children over 4 .. beware lots of stairs but it was an amazing visit. The museum was also a great informative visit. Lots of great historical information and a inique experience for all.
Heather R — Google review
Very interesting copper mine to visit. We were recommended to come here by our Swedish friends. It is definitely spectacular. Unfortunately we could do the underground tour as we could not get to the 2pm English tour in time. Definitely make sure you find out the tour times in advance and book your space.
Simon R — Google review
Really a magnificent experience and more that that was learning about this historic place, A thousand years of history beneath Sweden’s surface Located in the heart of Sweden, the Falun copper mines were once one of the most important industrial sites in Europe. The mine was active for over a thousand years, from around the 10th century until it finally closed in 1992. ⛏️ A Mine that Shaped a Nation
Adalis F — Google review
We did the mine tour and saw the museum. Interesting stuff and going into the mine was a fun experience
Sander M — Google review
We first visited in April 2022 but that was a brief visit(only the mine tour), we merely took a glance at the museum. We were quite impressed even during that short visit, and decided to revisit. Today, we spent an entire day there: - Reached early(0950), and viewed the sites like Creutz shaft, hoist, etc. - Visited the museum, viewed partially but thoroughly. - Lunch at the cafe. We avoided the restaurant this time as the menu didn't suit us but based on our 2022 visit, I would say the restaurant is decent and reliable. - Guided tour in English at 1330. We actually had booked a Swedish tour as the English one at 1200 was full. During our interaction with reception, they informed us that there would be an additional English tour at 1330 due several visitors. - Revisited and covered the remaining part of the museum. - Left around 1600. The museum is the best part, followed by the 1h guided tour. They have taken utmost efforts to provide information on English. The guides and the staff provided some interesting information apart from the tour as well. The kids also enjoyed a lot. Overall, it is a must-visit sight if you are in Sweden even for a brief period.
Omkar J — Google review
We loved the trip to the mine! The tour underground is awesome and very interesting even for small children. Our 4 year old loved it, our 7 year old was a bit scared. We had a great time. Lunch was also very nice in the local restaurant. Not crowded at all. The museum is also beautifully decorated with interactive corners.

Located in the charming village of Sundborn, just 13km northeast of Falun, Carl Larsson-gården is a must-visit attraction. This farmhouse was once the home of renowned Swedish artists, Carl and Karin Larsson. Preserved by their children after their deaths, the early-20th-century residence is a vibrant work of art filled with brightness, humor, and love. Visitors can explore the gardens and take hour-long guided tours to learn about the lives of the artists.
Being in the place where one of Sweden's greatest together with him equally talented (and oftenly forgotten) wife created their own creative environment brought me great joy. Worths the time to take a tour. Book tickets beforehand just to avoid unecessary stress
Pardalis G — Google review
Took the guided tour in their house, and it was absolutely stunning and interesting. I loved it! Their life and history and art is so inspiring, you can tell there was so much love and beauty in this home and I highly recommend anyone go visit, especially if you have any interest in art, architecture, design or history. It’s such a beautiful house, and you can tell where IKEA got a lot of inspiration from too! Haha. Don’t forget to take a walk in the garden, and the village, because they’re also gorgeous.
Zelda H — Google review
I enjoyed our guided tour with Alexander. His English was perfect, and his knowledge was extensive. I'm very glad there were only eight of us because the Swedish tours appeared to have up to 20 people in a group and the rooms are too small to take this number of people. There are various tours but I'd recommend booking. We paid SEK400 each as seniors, but the prices are on the website. We went to book in person and then went for a coffee and cake at the local cafe. We had parked our campervan in the Carl Larsson-gården parkering in Grånäsvägen so had a short, enjoyable walk to the house and garden but there's plenty of parking very close by near the café. The staff are friendly and we bought our tickets from Rebecca, whose English is also perfect. I docked one star just because I didn't feel I got to the bottom of the Larsson story, but I don't think that's possible in the 45 minutes we had. It may be that an introduction to the Larsson's, outside the house, perhaps in the garden, if it isn't raining, especially for foreigners, might be in order? In the meantime, a quick look at Wikipedia before your visit might help...
April E — Google review
Fascinating house to see, beautiful lakeside garden, excellent guided tour through the house. You may also want to walk around; there's a recreational park area nearby or you could walk to the church and beyond.
Helinä P — Google review
Linda was an extraordinary Guide. She was always speaking with enthusiasm. I really enjoyed every single corner in this House. I recommend to read Carl Larsson Biography to understand more the importance of this Life style with his Family and with his Wife Karin, who was also a painter and after many other artist activities This house in an inspiration of Love and creativity.
Adalis F — Google review
Very nice place, with a great view. History is well explained, it's very interesting ! There is a small hike for kids with some questions to interet them in nature, and a longer trail (~2km) for adult which is great too. We enjoyed this place.
Olivier D — Google review
We visited the garden before the opening time of the actual house. We were fortunate that all the trees were in blossom. The garden is quite small but I’d interesting with lake views.
Simon R — Google review
I absolutely recommend you visiting this place and getting into Carls Larsson and family history. We were suggested this place by a friend and it’s a must go when around Falun and Borlänge area! Super nice for kids, there is a kids only tour available and paiting activity! For the house tour book in advance. The atmosphere reminded me of Monets garden, but sure much less known… go and find out!

Located in the heart of Falun, Dalarna Museum offers a glimpse into the best of Dalarna's culture and heritage. This region is often considered the epitome of Swedish traditions, with its iconic symbols like the Dalecarlian horse and red paintings originating from here. The museum showcases traditional Swedish buildings and houses, along with educational displays on Falun's history and culture. Visitors can explore various exhibitions while enjoying free entrance to this cultural gem in Dalarna.
FUN AND INFORMATIVE - Great regional museum for all of the interesting attractions Falun and Dalarna has to offer. Take time to see all of it and consider the history you learn here as you walk the streets of this interesting town.
Astrofish — Google review
It is fascinating to see various types of Dala horses. Some are depicted riding motorcycles, while others feature Dala horse patterns on different animals. The traditional wedding attire is also beautiful. It conveys the timeless and universal joy of weddings, regardless of country or era.

Unexpected little gem of a museum. The architecture is lovely, and the collections are small enough not to be imposing or exhaustive, but full enough to feel enriching. Also loved the very unexpected fantasy/cosplay (temporary?) exhibit.

It surprised me, the content and a social point to meet friends and more than that a Terrace for drinks! At the interior I payed for and English Guide - So nice Guy , every significant details I knew it thanks to him. tThere were others exhibitions , also one regarding the Electric 🎸. Beautiful ❤️ Thanks to the Front desk also two Girls Kinds and smiling with the clients.

I liked the exposition, it was small temporary painting exposition, extremely interesting main part related to textile and some nice stuff and Dala horses. Highly recommended! 125 sek for the ticket
Alina Z — Google review
Informative museum in Falun with free entrance. There's much to learn about Dalarna and Swedish history, culture, art, and music. You can spend more than an hour immersed in the various pieces on display, with plenty of multilingual pamphlets to read some information on. I was especially fascinated by the old clothing that people in the region used to wear, for both winters and summers. There is also a gift shop on site.
Wonder M — Google review
Beautiful and calm museum with free admission. There are quite a broad range of stuff to look at and it doesn’t take long to go through most things. A nice and quick stop if you have an hour to kill.
Johannes — Google review
Super nice! The tour guide was amazing—I learned so much of the art and culture of Dalarna. They have a staggering collection of wall paintings, dalarna traditional clothes, and dala horses. I came after visiting Lilla Hyttnäs (Carl Larsson's home in Sundborn). If you ask the staff there for directions, they'll give you a map package which also contains a 50% discount code for the Dalarna Museum (though I'm not sure if they always give out this discount code, or just periodically). The code works for guided tours, very worthwhile!

Sjosidan Falun is a picturesque lakeside retreat offering cozy cabins with one to three bedrooms. Visitors can enjoy a variety of amenities including a restaurant, cafe, and sauna. The RV parking area is spacious and well-maintained, providing ample room for campers. Showers and toilets are clean and readily available, while trash disposal services and water refills are conveniently provided. Additionally, there is a small beach for swimming and the option to rent water equipment.
Very pleasant stay at one of the cabins at Sjosidan! We originally planned to camp but one of the cabins became available and we stayed for a night. It was so nice that we even decided to extend our stay for another night. The cabin was modern fitted - a very nice bathroom with a good shower, room had a comfy bed, a small stove & kitchen equipment, small table, chairs, fridge and a TV. WiFi was working without a hitch. There was a patio with chairs, table and a small bbq. As we were traveling by bikes 🚲🚲 it was great to be able to roll them onto the patio. The cabin had a nice view towards the lake and you could still get some privacy. The swimming spot was just one minute from the cabin so you could refresh in the morning 🌅 Please note that you can purchase sheets & towels at additional price and you should clean your accommodation when leaving. As a camper I would be less inclined to stay - okay for a night but the site doesn't have as much to offer for tent travellers as other places. Please note that when you arrive at the site there are two companies - one that does kayaks and one with cabins. You could camp with either, just in different spots. (We initially asked the kayak guys and they showed us a pitch next to the lake - we could see a toilet next to it, but that was basically it for 350 SEK.) For the cabin company there was a pitch in the green area but I don't know the price. There was no kitchen or common room though and as it was raining we were not in a mood to stay in a tent for the whole day and so we went for a cabin.
Kasia B — Google review
Nicely located by the side of a lake, but so are a lot of campings in Sweden. It doesn't justify the out-of-proportion high price for people camping with a small tent and without electricity (350kr). When asking this much, expectations are raised but in this case unfortunately not met. For example, the campground for tents is bumpy and could do with levelling out. Also, it would be nice if it were checked for incidentally left waist of a previous camper (we found rope, plastic, an old lighter on the tentgrounds). The kitchen could be cleaner, and it would be nice to be able to open a window... Summarizing: everything is 'ok', but not for this price for tents. We hope you'll reconsider it for future people camping...
Karin O — Google review
Still one of my fav places to go. Lovely small site, villa has been reopened. Added a sauna. Nice located at the lake. Very friendly and helpful staff everywhere. Clean facilities. Always worth a stay
Ellen G — Google review
We had a good time on our kayak provided by Human by nature, the lake and scenery were amazing ! Unfortunately one of the kayak was not well adjusted (the backseat and feet were not well maintained) so that it was not as pleasant as it could have been. It hurted quite a lot during the whole session. Please make sure to adjust the kayak according to the person height and weight between each session.
Breuil C — Google review
We booked 2 days at the RV parking area and prolonged our visit with two additional days. The RV area is great. Large spots, fresh showers and toilets, emptying of trash, gray and black water and fresh water refill. Small Beach and water equipment rental, restaurant and small shop at the reception (nothing useful though). Great weather, great swimming, great stay! Warmly recommended.
Marcin Z — Google review
Clean, cozy & well designed cabins. The cabins are perfectly placed on a beautiful hill near a lovely lake. Went here to ice skate and ski, lake was snow shoved a few times a day, and skiing resort was half an hour away. Good WiFi in the cabins, really enjoyed my stay.
Marijn V — Google review
We stayed just for a day and rented a canoe for a trip on the lake. It was fantastic. The price was very good, very friendly personnel that we're all fluent in English. The service and contact was very, very good. We asked for some additional items for the trip and it was no problem and free of charge. Contact before via eMail was very good and the answers came really quick. We just can recommend this place to everyone. They also have a nice camping ground and a batsplats right next to the camping ground. We definitely will come back!
Christian S — Google review
Great camping. With decent services and a wonderful beach. The sand is soft and clean. The water is clear of weeds and there are very few stones. The scenery was lovely. The best part was the ozzy chef and the cracking bbq that he served up. Amazing salads, loads of vegetarian options and super tastes.

Korså Bruk is an industrial museum that showcases the region's rich history of metal extraction and processing. The picturesque village offers a unique experience with its interesting buildings and beautiful waterways. Visitors can enjoy walking around, exploring historical sites, and taking in the natural beauty of the lakes and waterways. While services are limited, there are picnic tables scattered throughout the area, and visitors can also visit the Herrgard mansion cafe for a delightful cake buffet.
My favorite place for a weekend getaway. Right in nature, nice people, good food, excellent canoeing at lake Hinsen.
Marcus — Google review
Very nice place, variety of good food but not excellent behaviour with people that look a bit different, if you have piercing and tattoos maybe you wont be treated as nicely, but the place is definitely worth a visit
Natalia S — Google review
A picturesque village in the middle of nowhere with beautiful waterways and lakes to enjoy on a hot summers day. Expect no services, there is occasionally a café but its opening times are sporadic and unclear and there is no cell service in the area. As a nature getaway with interesting historical sites it more than suffices.
Skalare — Google review
This is an awesome place with a lot of interesting buildings for walking around and discovering. When your have made the village you can track along the lakes or have a swim in the lake of Hinsen, where there is a house for putting on swimming trouser and another one for toilet. There are a lot of picnic tables all around the places or you can visit the astonishing Herrgård mansion café for a cake buffé. The industrial outdoor museum with pond shows a almost complete Lancashire method for making steel to be used by smiths all around the world in the 19th and and until 1930. The village with 400 inhabitants was isolated with no roads until 1945 and was then supplied by taking everything over the ice of lake Hyen in the winter only, so they were very isolated and secluded with their own school, church etc. A visit here is rich in experiences and history, don't miss out on it despite like 20km of gravel road...

This area boasts stunning natural landscapes with beautiful woods and a serene lake, offering endless trails for hiking and biking enthusiasts. The camping site is family-owned and provides a cozy atmosphere with accommodating staff.
We went here to try for the first time skiing and snowboarding 😁 Their facility is really nice. For first timer like us, you can just go directly there and rent skis or snowboard. They have alot of available equipment. You can also have a private lesson but it is advisable to book it online. Although if you go there in the morning there's a chance for you to book for afternoon lesson.

Daniel M — Google review
Clean and well appointed accommodation. Beautiful views. Picnic tables and BBQ areas. Drying space. Walk in shower. Clean and comfortable beds. The staff were very friendly. However we had to wait awhile at the campsite shop to find out where to check in and then to wait for the manager to return to the office from her cleaning and housekeeping duties. The office needs to be signposted and opening times on the door. When the manager leaves, there should be a clear notice that she will be returning soon. It was very hot day and we were tired waiting in the car. My husband has a wheelchair so we couldn't relax by the lake and wait. Overall a great stay. Manager spoke several languages and was able to confidently answer all questions. She gave us advice about traveling on local roads and local events.

It's an ok ski resort, not the biggest but it has a charm to it. When I was here the temperature was high and only 9 pistes were open. Not far to a shop. Has night skiing but only in the green pistes. Overall decent ski resort.

As a former local I'm a little bit sad that the old Bjursås- DIY- spirit is gone. But at the same time I am glad to see this place becoming a fully scaled resort. Very nice organised with friendly staff and restaurants on both sides of the mountain. Seems like a good place for families and the park is good fun even for the more skilled freestylers. Prices are fairly high, but what can you expect when it's called "Dalarnas Switzerland".

I stayed there 4 nights but could have stayed alot longer, there are so many things to see in Falun, Leksand and more. Top tip service house number 1 is very well equipped and super nice so try to get a lot near service house number 1.
