Nestled just 3 km north of Rocky Harbour, the Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse is a charming destination that beautifully marries history with nature. This 19th-century lighthouse serves as a museum and visitor center, offering engaging exhibits and guided walks that delve into the coastal life of western Newfoundland. Families will delight in the kid-friendly activities available, from rug hooking to learning about nautical flags.
the rangers were knowledgeable and super friendly. they spoke English and French and shared lots of information. The space inside the little museum is welcoming and has many educational display panels and also hands on activities. o e cannot climb up to the top, the lighthouse is still functional and under coast guard care. the walking paths around the lighthouse are small but beautiful. the parking lot is not very big. near the parking lot are restrooms away from the light house
Irina K — Google review
Well worth pulling off the road to enjoy this lighthouse and the trails and views around the hillside. It’s a very photogenic lighthouse that you can capture from many different angles and perspectives. I totally enjoyed it. I did not tour the interior though it was open and available.
Randy R — Google review
A very scenic location and lighthouse perched on side of cliff. Very nice museum to learn history of lighthouse. Very short walk from parking lot. Best views of lighthouse is on left side where there are several little trails to walk out near the water.
John M — Google review
The guides are super excited and helpful. The lighthouse is still functional and therefore, restricted to the public. The inside is filled with history about the previous guards and the lighthouse's history. The trails around the lighthouse are well marked, short and easy to do.
Shrey A — Google review
What a nice little historical lighthouse. There is a little museum inside and scenic views all around. There are also a few hiking trails that take you to the rocky edge overlooking the water and down to a rocky cove.
Ethan — Google review
Beautiful views of the coast. Lots of trails to explore that lead to unique lookouts. You can climb the rocks and stand right beside the lighthouse. It was really cool to check out after our boat tour through Western Brook Pond!
Joey S — Google review
Lovely trails around the lighthouse! We visited after hours on a weekday, so didn’t go inside.

Really enjoyed my visit. There were 2 park rangers (English and French) and had an interesting chat about the hiatory of the place. Interesting backstory. The last light keepers son (now in his 80s) still visits.

Nestled within Gros Morne National Park, Western Brook Pond is a stunning glacier-carved inlet surrounded by towering mountains. Visitors can access this picturesque location through hiking routes or by taking sightseeing cruises. The 16-km long freshwater lake boasts 2000-foot high cliffs that create a dramatic and awe-inspiring landscape. In addition to the breathtaking natural scenery, the area offers opportunities for exploring coastal lighthouses, ancient geology, and indulging in food and wine tours.
A few kilometers walk to the boat, reservations suggested. Beautiful fjords, not a true fjord as it is landlocked with fresh water, not connected to salt water any longer.
Owl D — Google review
I’ve seen and done a lot of stuff in Newfoundland, but a boat tour of the fjords at Western Brook is in the top 3. Visually stunning. Nothing quite like it. Recommend that everyone do it at least once in their life.
Lee S — Google review
We went on a windy, rainy day. Still gorgeous and the guides did a fantastic job.
Ashley M — Google review
Visiting Western Brook Pond was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our family. I went with my wife, our 1+ year-old daughter, and close family friends (with their kids aged 6 and 4). It was a day we’ll always treasure because of the breathtaking views and the joy of exploring nature together. Instead of walking the 3 km trail to the dock, we chose the shuttle service, which was very convenient and family-friendly, especially with young kids. From there, we boarded the 2-hour boat tour operated by BonTours. On our trip, we had the pleasure of meeting Jamie, Brad, and Christopher — the team onboard who made the experience exceptional. A special mention goes to Jamie, whose live commentary was superb; he explained the geology, history, and natural beauty of the fjord while patiently answering every question from curious visitors. The tour itself is absolutely mesmerizing. You float between massive billion-year-old cliffs of the Long Range Mountains, carved out by glaciers thousands of years ago. From above, waterfalls cascade nearly 2000 feet from hidden ponds on the plateau, tumbling into Gros Morne’s largest lake. The scale of the gorge is almost overwhelming — a dramatic reminder of how powerful glaciers once shaped this land. Western Brook Pond is not just a natural wonder, but also a geological treasure. Its diverse rock formations have helped scientists better understand plate tectonics, showing how ancient oceans closed and mountains were formed. It’s no surprise this area has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. For families, this is an unforgettable adventure — safe, manageable, and awe-inspiring. Our kids loved the boat ride, and the adults were completely captivated by the scenery. A must-do when visiting Newfoundland. The combination of stunning landscapes, knowledgeable guides, and the serenity of being surrounded by billion-year-old cliffs makes Western Brook Pond an experience you’ll remember forever. Highly recommended for families, nature lovers, and anyone seeking to witness the true power and beauty of our planet.

Great hike. You can also get a ride for $$. Beautiful views.
Bob D — Google review
We loved this tour! I would say it shouldn’t be missed.
Joanne C — Google review
The area is beautiful and a must see. I don’t think any one doing a tour could do a bad job because the surroundings are stunning. I didn’t think the guides on the tour we did were anything special, funny or entertaining but they gave some interesting facts from their script. The queuing was a mess. We got in line early on the off chance we could sit up top. One of the guides came along about 20 minutes before boarding to tell the front of the line something and the line moved to the side. However, when it came to boarding, two lines formed and people who had been way behind us were now in front. It wouldn’t be hard for them to organise this to avoid frustration. It also wouldn’t hurt to make sure people upstairs are making room for others.
Rach P — Google review
Beautiful venue and the fjord is amazing. There is a 3 km walk in from the highway parking lot and it’s an easy walk but a bit dull and a gravel road rather than a scenic hike and be prepared for crazy wind. People line up an hour before boarding time presumably to get the top of the boat. We did not do that but did get an outside seat at the back of the boat which was fine but then be prepared to be hit by waves coming up over the floor and around your feet. The speaker system needs a sound warning just before the guide speaks so others hopefully quiet and listen. The boat Was so packed full that it was very hard to hear the guide. The information shared was great when I heard it. The wind over the water was super strong. In the fjord was lovely. The price was appropriate and the boat house does have washrooms and a bit of a shop for food and souvenirs.

Tablelands, located within Gros Morne National Park, offers a unique hiking experience on the exposed section of the Earth's mantle. It is known as the only place on Earth where visitors can walk on the mantle rather than the crust. The area provides various hiking options, from rocky Tablelands hikes to coastal walks and lush landscapes in Green Gardens. Additionally, visitors can enjoy stunning views from Big Lookout or Gros Morne Mountain and explore the picturesque Western Brook Pond Fjord.
The Missus and I along with our Westcoast travellers did the short 45 minute walk from the parking lot to the viewing platform. The trail is relatively flat with gravel and boardwalk surfaces. The rocks scattered from the earth's mantle and the plant life trying to survive in this harsh environment makes for scenic pictures and an educational opportunity. A must see when in Gros Morne. No luck in finding the geocache sites.
B W — Google review
The Tablelands is one of the most extraordinary landscapes we’ve ever seen — unlike anywhere else in Newfoundland, or even Canada. Walking through this otherworldly terrain felt like stepping onto another planet. The landscape is dominated by rust-coloured peridotite rock, pushed up from deep within the Earth’s mantle half a billion years ago. Because the rock is low in nutrients and high in heavy metals, very few plants grow here, giving the place a stark, barren beauty. This is what makes the Tablelands a key site for understanding plate tectonics — proof of how ancient oceans closed and mountains formed. We visited with our family and friends, including young kids, and found the area surprisingly accessible. The Tablelands Trail is well-marked and not too challenging, making it a great spot to explore with children while still being deeply fascinating for adults. Along the way, the contrasting scenery — the orange-brown rocks of the Tablelands against the lush green valleys of Gros Morne — is simply breathtaking. What made our visit even more special was learning that the Tablelands played a role in Gros Morne being designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Standing there, you feel like you’re touching a piece of Earth’s inner secrets. The Tablelands is a must-see when visiting Gros Morne. It’s not just a hike — it’s a walk across the Earth’s mantle, a rare chance to experience the planet’s geological history up close. Perfect for families, photographers, and anyone curious about the story of our planet.
Thirojan J — Google review
Well worth the visit if you enjoy geology, learning about the earth's mantle ...very unusual scenery..

WHY VISIT? 1)This is the Mecca of Gros Morne National park.lf you don't see this place where earth's mantle lies bare on the crust...you haven't seen this national park. 2)A GEOLOGICAL GEM. 3)Very scenic topography 4) Excellent for photography 5) Good place to see unique vegetation IS THE TRAIL EASY? Mostly flat boardwalk.Easy for all age group. Tips: Visit between 9 am to 12 noon for the best clicks

Beautiful, interesting, and an easy walk. Can be windy.
Ashley M — Google review
Easy trail, except to go to the top of the mountains unfortunately I didn't do the difficult trail just the easy one, it took me 1h30 round-trip with magnificent photos taken as souvenirs. The landscapes, the view of the mountains are impressive wow! Also, don't forget to go to Trout River and all the beauty of nature around!
Johanne — Google review
Both the 4km return short trail and the unmarked 14km hike to the top loop trail are amazing. Choose either one based on your mobility and weather condition and you won't regret it! The view is magnificent and the experience is unique. The hike to the top trail is quite dangerous, I'd suggest to have hiking companions and pay attention to the weather. We also found GPS based hiking apps quite useful to locate us on the official unmarked trail (e.g. park Canada app or something like Strava). Be sure to visit discovery center (preferably before the hike), not only it gives a lot of information on Tablelands, it also give the difference in rock composition between other regions of gros morne which we found very informative.
Sam X — Google review
Bring plenty of water as there is no reprieve from the sun. Most of the path is groomed for easy walking, highly recommend venturing off once you hit the end of the path as recommended by their signage. Amazing colours, quite flat and easy walk even if kids/elderly/pregnant.

The Green Gardens Trail in Gros Morne National Park offers a diverse and scenic hiking experience. Starting from the unique barren landscape of the Tablelands, the trail leads through boreal forests to the coast, where picturesque sea stacks adorn the beaches. Along the way, hikers can admire unique rock formations, observe wildlife, and enjoy stunning ocean views from various vantage points. The trail involves a steep downhill hike to reach the beach, with a challenging uphill return that is described as strenuous but rewarding.
I do this trail often! It can take 3 to 4 hours, there's a lot to explore, which usually I do. There's a walk over the tablelands, all switch backs no stairs anymore since they updated it, then a forested area, the green garden meadows, the beach and waterfalls, sea caves etc. There's usually sheep roaming around which is how green gardens got so green. Lol A great place to relax down by the ocean if anyone is interested in back country camping.
Natalia C — Google review
We came in late May. The hike is very beautiful but very long. A large portion of the hike is spent going down and then up again in a gully with no views. There were some interesting sights after you get pass the boring part, though. The coolest part of the hike is by far the herd of sheep grazing near the end of the trail. There is also a beach to relax for a bit before making the arduous journey back.
Andy Z — Google review
Great trail . Hard on knees for people who have weaker knees . It is beautiful and good trail. You got the chance to do a trail that give you the best of both worlds for mountains and sea. it a real gem to see.
Jean T — Google review
Beautiful well maintained trail. About 5km walk from the top to the sea, can be steep for some segment. Plan enough water and time for the return as in the sun it can be hard.
Renaud L — Google review
A fair bit of work to get down to the water's edge, but this is where the hike shines. Nice beach walk and views both ways down the coast.
Dave P — Google review
Amazing hike with very rewarding views at the end. They have recently redone the approach to the viewpoint so the trail is in great condition. The trail is a long descent to the ocean with beautiful views. Very rewarding views with the iconic red chairs and stairs to the beach. The incline on the return is steep and continous so make sure to save some energy for the way back.
Robert M — Google review
WOW. Steep hike downhill means a strenuous uphill return, but but so worth it. You will hike through what felt like several mini biotopes as you descend to the beach. Sit at the edge of an oceanside cliff as you contemplate your life decisions that led you to the base of this mountain (that you now have to climb back up). Take the treacherous stairs down to the beach if you dare. Possibly my favorite hike of all time. This should probably be your first hike of the day if you're not used to this level of (uphill) hiking.
Veronica W — Google review
If you do one tour in Gros Morne, this is the one. Five stars, spectacular and a fairly easy walk and hike. It is long and rocky, stunningly beautiful. Pack a lunch and enjoy at the beach.

Hiking Trails
Gros Morne Mountain Hiking Trail is a challenging but popular 10-mile loop in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland. The trail takes hikers through diverse landscapes, from lowland to alpine terrain, offering colorful wildflowers and wildlife sightings along the way. The reward for this demanding hike is the breathtaking panoramic views from the summit, open from July to late November. While the trail is difficult and rocky, experienced hikers will find it a rewarding adventure.
Tough trail but worth the effort. Don't think that the work is done when you reach the summit, the decent is quite a bit longer and at least as difficult. We hiked on a semi warm (23°C) day and we needed every drop of our 3 litres of water (per person). Took about 7.5hrs total including a nice lunch break at the top. Bring good sturdy shoes/boots, start early. Not for the faint of heart.
Randy V — Google review
One of the longest and strenuous trails that I have done! The views at the summit are worth the exertion. Personally, I would recommend starting as early in the day as possible, that way you can complete the ascension without the gruelling sunlight. Do carry bug spray among other essentials. They are everywhere and relentless. The ascent was tiring, but the descent was much more painful. Overall, I loved the experience and will HIGHLY recommend it.
Shrey A — Google review
Great hike. Beautiful views but the longer you go the more there are. Lots of people. Parking lot was overflowing by noon. Suggest early arrival. Various terrain including very rocky. Big effort for inexperienced to complete. If you are older like me bring your hiking poles. Absolutely no mountain biking.
John B — Google review
Beautiful hike. Highly recommend for experienced hikers. You can do a shorter out and back section and still see the waterfall and the view of Gros morne. The entire loop is very challenging with loose rocks during the entire mountain portion. It took us almost 8 hrs to complete the entire thing with fairly limited breaks. It’s 100% worth it but I would not recommend the full loop in wet or foul weather or for those who are not comfortable on unstable footing. I get the sense that the parking fills up quickly but we had no problem at 8AM
Shannon K — Google review
Although the summit ealk is closed, you can walk upto the waterfall and to the base of the mountain. About 45mins. The foliage is still largely dormant (or dead)?
Mila T — Google review
Do not underestimate the mountain! The entire trail to the summit is steep, long and rocky, requiring hikers to be tenacious and good at planning. A pair of hiking poles is a must-have to help your knees. We packed a little too much for food, clothes, and a camera on our backs. It took us 9 hours to finish the entire trail (we ate and rested for about an hour at the summit). Looking back, it's all worth it for the variety of views we encountered. It's like the world in Zelda!
Ty Y — Google review
If you are doing the summit trail arrive early (7:30-8:30am). You want to avoid the heat and parking fills up later in the day. It is recommended to bring 3L of water per person. We only brought 1L per person and ran out of water at the last 2km back. It was fine. I could have used more water but we didn’t have enough room to carry more. We survived but if I did it again I would say at least bring 2L. The scramble up the mountain is beyond intense. If you have a heavy backpack be prepared it will make the hike harder. Well worth the views.
Sarah P — Google review
A difficult hike, not recommended to beginners, reward with a breathtaking view at the summit. The first part of the trail is an easy 4-5km to reach the base of the main ascension, about 1-1.5h. The second part can be a challenging 8km hike. It starts with a steep 500m climb in the first 1.5km. You will need good hiking boots and plainly of water as the climb is on uneven, moving rock and in the sun if it's a sunny day. After the ascension you will walk at the top and it could be windy and cool so it's a good idea to bring a rain jacket to block the wind. The return can be long and taxing on your knees, but the view continues to be worth it. Bring at least 2-3l of water per person and more on sunny day. Plan between 6 and 8h for both hikes, depending on the weather and your knees.

We camped at Shallow Bay, which was lovely. Beautiful sand beach. Just south of Shallow Bay, there is Cow Head which juts out to the west. There is an absolutely beautiful hike on Cow Head called the lighthouse Trail. Highly recommended. Whoever manages the upkeep of the trail does a great job, they are in excellent condition with good signage and beautiful views.

What a beautiful clean beach! Lovely white sand stretches around the cove and the water was comfortable enough to swim in. Although I only had time to safe. It's worth a stop. They are renovating the building on site but one bathroom is open.

Knowledgeable interpreters guide guests through a journey of discovery, showcasing both minute creatures and larger sea life.
My family had a BLAST visiting the aquarium, especially seeing the blue and white lobsters, as well as the touch tanks where we all got to pick up live crabs, lobster and sea stars. Strongly recommended! 👍👍

BonTour works with the Marine Station and offers a boat tour which including a guided tour of the Marine Station. We purchased tickets on line through BonTour. From the moment we boarded, Bridgette and Simone made us feel welcome with their warm, positive energy and enthusiasm for the marine environment. Their knowledge of the local aquatic species was truly impressive. We learned so much about the marine life in the area. They were engaging, professional, and made the whole tour both educational and fun. It’s clear they’re passionate about what they do, and their excitement was contagious. The station may be small but this package packs a punch for the cost. Great memory maker!

Amazimg location with fun for the whole family if you like marine life or great views. The touch tanks are fun, and I love that the specimens are collected and returned annually.

We came for a visit at the end of June. We had the a very positive experience. The timing must have been just right, because we had about three students showing us around the place and telling us all about their facility and their marine animals. The ladies were very knowledgeable and supper friendly. We got to hold some star fish and crabs. Also pretty cool they put all their animals back into the ocean at the end of the season. If you are in the area I would highly recommend.

This Marine Station has a lot of potential to draw a lot of tourist back for a 2nd visit. It has some amazing eye catching sea creatures what most people will never get to see elsewhere. The staff really need to get more training to provide the full potential of what this Marine Station can really be. The Arches Provincial Park is located north of Gros Morne National Park and is named after its main feature - a rock formation eroded by tides into arches. Walking on the rocks near the arches can be challenging, so caution is advised. Visitors can explore the arches from different angles, including underneath and on top. This popular tourist attraction in Portland Creek, Newfoundland, features limestone formations that have been carved into stunning masterpieces.
Hubby and I stopped by here in early June. Luckily the weather was nice. You have to keep your eye out for the little sign for the short road to The Arches which takes you to the parking area. You can take pictures from up there if not very mobile.I couldn't go down the long stairway to the bottom due to arthritis in my knee, but I got good pictures from above. There are no toilet facilities but there are a couple picnic tables.

100% worth the drive! - Not overly populated - Clean area - Magnificent views - Clean outhouses nearby Tip’s for Visitors: - Be courteous and respectful of those sitting by the rocks and those taking pictures. Take turns. - Wear hiking shoes for uneven rocky beach terrain
Yung V — Google review
My kids loved this place and kept asking if we could go back. They spent a long time hopping between rocks, checking the tidal pools for life, and looking for fossils and interesting rocks.
Jason K — Google review
We stopped of here around evening low tide and golden hour. It was a great time to view the arches. It was t too busy, yet those that were here all seemed to arrive around the same time. If you need to use the rest room, you’ll fin the outhouses in the upper parking lot.
Shyla T — Google review
It’s a beautiful area, but if you go before 5/15 all those arches will be covered by snow and do not attempt to go down to the beach, it’s easy down but very difficult to come back if snow is present.

Not wheelchair accessible. If one uses a cane, don't go alone. If one is unstable on their feet, don't go alone. Not a place hurry. Keep an eye on eachother. Stay together to stay safer.

One of my favorite provincial parks in existence. One can spend hours hear, relaxing by the water and appreciating the unique geological formation. The weathered rocks and serene environment make this place truly special. One of my favorites in Newfoundland! A great stop en route to the Labrador ferry!

Lookout Hills Trail is a 4-kilometer historic path leading to Pynes Cove and the abandoned community of Stanleyville. The hike offers beautiful views from chairs at the top, but it can be challenging due to elevation and rocky terrain. Hikers are advised to wear hiking shoes with deep treads for this uphill trek.
A very underrated hike. The views are spectacular. It's a grind of a hike but totally worth it at the top. The boardwalk is during the last 1 km of the hike and surround the top.
Laura — Google review
This hike is one of the most beautiful that I have been on. The steep uphill climb is so worth it for what comes next - gorgeous meadows with breathtaking views of the Tablelands and Long Range mountains. As others have said, do take the time to do the full loop at the top - it's the easiest section of the hike, you have already done the hard work, it's beautiful 😍
Archie M — Google review
The trail was recently upgraded, so for comfort on the relatively short hike I went in my well-worn-tread running shoes with no issues whatsoever. No fancy footwear needed. It rained that morning and the gravel trail was relatively dry by the afternoon. A couple puddles to step over. Lovely chairs and benches at the windy top to enjoy the view and chat with people. Stunning reds and yellows in the trees the last bit of September. If you think you may need them…bring poles! Worth it to do the loop at the top counter clockwise.
R S — Google review
Moderately intense hike up to the lookout point. Views were stunning from the beginning to end. You get great views of the tablelands, the water and if you're lucky wildlife! Puppy approved and a nice little rest spot at the top to admire the view.
Elise T — Google review
Wonderful hike, challenging uphill with many switch backs but the views make up for it 10 fold. Do yourself a favour and walk the entire loop at the top and finish off sitting in the provided chairs at the peek.
Alexander S — Google review
This is a very short hiking trail, which rewards with expansive views of the Gros Morne NP area around the Berry Hill campground. The last part of the hike includes a steep flight of steps, not recommended for people with mobility issues. Otherwise, it is a must when you visit the area.
Danuta K — Google review
Trail entrance located in corner of parking lot, had a very steady climb for about 35 mins, terrain not too rough but did have to make a few stops to catch my breath, slightly windy on top, took about 70 mins to apex, spectacular views on the walk and especially at the top, has a path to do loop around the top but we declined, walking back down is easier on the lungs but hard on the knees/feet, well worth the hike for sure. Make sure you poop/pee before starting the hike!

This is a must see! The gentleman who curates is a taxidermist and took 5 years collecting animals to create these awesome scenes. It is fabulous. The wildlife are depicted in their own environments. It is an education to view and understand nature's interactions.

A cool museum showcasing the various animals of Newfoundland. The museum displays a very impressive taxidermy collection. The museum would be great for kids as there's a scavenger hunt. I would've preferred more information about the various animals, though.

It feels like you’re just peaking into someone’s private collection of taxidermy animals. The information about the wildlife is questionable though not glaringly inaccurate. Not sure I’d recommend visiting unless you are a big hunting enthusiast

I enjoyed this. Its really all about seeing the work of a good taxidermist on a wide variety of animals and birds arranged in very nice little tableaux with suitable backgrounds. If you have seen much better examples in national museums then maybe you want to give it a miss but I'd be surprised if anyone interested in wildlife (and OK with taxidermy that according to the information provided did not include any deliberate killing of animals but rather road kills and other accidental occurrences) wouldn't enjoy this. Worth the price of admission in my opinion.

The Tablelands Trail offers a unique experience within the park, with its brown and barren plateau rising up to 2000 feet, a remnant of an ancient sea floor. While wildlife is scarce in this area, the striking geological formations make it a must-see destination. The Eastern Point Trail near Trout River is not marked on park maps but is worth including in your itinerary. The trail leads to a boardwalk offering views of the glacier and provides an easy yet rewarding hike for families.
Super enjoyable trail 2km one way even better with a ranger/guide. Our guide Kris was wonderful. A geologist by training and was a great lecturer who explained the geology in easy to u stand terms. She also talked about the many plants that twice in this hostile environment. A gentle by long rise. Many places are boardwalk but mostly rocky trail. Very well maintained. Signs along the way explain things so without a guide easy to understand the area. Parking is tight so go early. Day we were there it was hot. Folks did bring dogs but since the rocks there are poisonous (reason nothing grows there) I wonder if this was wise
Alexandra M — Google review
Amazing to see the unique different landscape and geology of the tablelands ! Very cool hike ! Would recommend to do at sunrise to see during the golden hour light! Nice and moderate without too much elevation.
Emilie R — Google review
Easy to find, lots of parking available, trail is relatively flat, very cool view of Earth Mantle on one side and trees/growth on the other, slightly strong breeze along the trail and at the end by the small brook so should have a wind breaker or sweater, some people continued on past the end but terrain is very rough and rocky with no specific path to follow, took about 1.5 hrs out/back, amazing views in all directions. SUGGESTION - nowhere to poop/pee out there so do your bowels and bladder a favour and stop at the Discovery Centre before you head to this trail.
Jeff S — Google review
It is an insanely difficult but equally worth it "trail." Only the first mile or so is an actual trail, but after that point, you are meant to create your own path up the valley. Overall, the loop we took l, which is the one on alltrails, was about 8 miles. This was a hard fought 8 miles of rock climbing, etc. Very strenuous activity. However, the views at the top are unmatched. If you are an experienced hiker, I would highly recommend this "trail."
ComradVibes — Google review
A nice little walk along a well maintained path with lots of interesting information boards. Perfect for killing an hour in the area. Very windy when we went, the wind seems to whip down the hill, but it wasn't dusty, it just required a little extra care to ensure we weren't blown over! Car park was busy but there were still a few spaces going.
Jason R — Google review
Lovely hike for which you clearly need good shoes ! I suggest to look at the itinerary on alltrails if doing the long version of this hike, but do know that you will have cell service while at the top if like us you went there a bit blindly :-/ Do bring a lot of water as there is absolutely no way to escape the sun and it can get pretty hot out there !
Valery T — Google review
I really love this spot. My second time here from Manitoba. This was first on the list of things to do again. A combination of mysterious and peaceful. Can be quite warm, but we had a nice breeze to keep us cool. The trail ends at a viewing platform and small waterfall. The beginning of the trail is gravel pathway and the second half is a solid boardwalk. Hiking boots not required. Some people used trekking poles, but they are unnecessary.
Brianthemennonite — Google review
I took the off trail of ~8miles. It was spectacular! I have never had such a unique experience before! Figuring out the path every few metres and making my way all the way to the top (and back) was exhilarating! Sure, there are loose rocks and the way down is not fun, but just the experience and the views (OMG the views), makes this trail worth it!

Baker's Brook Falls is a stunning natural attraction located along a 6-mile round trip trail that takes hikers through a picturesque balsam fir forest. The falls cascade over limestone ridges, creating a magnificent sight and enveloping visitors in refreshing mist. This relatively easy hike is perfect for nature enthusiasts of all levels, including families with young children. Along the way, hikers may spot moose in the regenerating forest landscape.
By far, one of the easiest and most rewarding (in terms of the falls) hikes in the area. Most of the way is paved and has wooden planks. My suggestion: start as early in the morning as possible. You'll run into the little friends (frogs) all over the place. Overall, a beautiful experience.
Shrey A — Google review
The trail is about 9km and it took us 2.5 hours to finish. It's almost flat and well maintained. The only problem is the trees blocking the views right in front of the falls. It will be perfect if the rangers could trim the trees a little bit.
A ( — Google review
Well with the walk for the beautiful falls at the end. The trail could do with a bit of maintenance. Some of the board walks aren't as stable and there's some muddy bits that could do with board walks. The moose exclusion zone was interesting to see the difference in how much they eat locally.
Jason R — Google review
6 km in and out trail with a few view points of the falls. Didn't see any Moose on the walk but we saw some foot prints so if you are lucky you could see some. There's also a small trail to a Moose exclosure where the vegetation is different as Moose are not allowed in the region - you can notice stark difference
Rahul C — Google review
Easy hike, about 6 miles round trip. Beautiful meadows and the falls are spectacular. Worth the hike for sure

Great easy-moderate hike through coastal forests and bogs with the reward of the stunning Baker's Brook Falls at the end. Well worth the effort. Easy parking and well marked trail. We were blessed to have the guide with flowery tattooes on her arm. She shared her wealth of knowledge while leading us on an hour-long walk on the Tablelands Trail. They are very helpful. This location has the Lookout Trail. This trail is listed as a moderate hike however, it is difficult and I have done many hikes before. It is all uphill. It took us 70 minutes to reach the top. It is a very panoramic view. Just breathe taking...

What a great place to hike and learn more about the rocks we live on!! We did the Lookout trail hike first, very steep but totally worth it for the view at the end!!! We even saw a moose in the trees!! Then we did Tablelands walk, stuck our feet in the waterfall to cool down. Missed the guided tour but recommend you download the parks Canada app and listen to the recorded tour as you walk along.

The discovery center had some great exhibitions to help learn about the geology of Gros Morne and about the Mi’kmaq. The park rangers on site are incredibly helpful and informative. The site has a cafe, gift shop and washrooms. We didn’t get here until the second half of our trip, as we started in the north part of the park. But if I went again I would consider starting in the south, as the discovery center is so informative and really lays the ground work to understanding what makes Gros Morne so special. It’s super close to the beginning of the Tablelands hike. There are lots of guided tours and activities happening in the summer - check the schedule if that is something that interests you. Definitely a must see spot in Gros Morne.

Urve Manuel’s “The Glass Station” gallery offers the absolute best Newfoundland fine art, which makes an amazing remembrance of Rocky Harbour and Newfoundland, to take home and enjoy in your house. I bought an adorable line of “glass clothes” to hang on picture wire in my kitchen window. My kitchen is the heart of our home. I am known locally for loving to hang clothes out on my line, so I fell in love with the way Urve could capture the motion of wind in her art. The picture that I am attaching shows my “Clothes Blowing in the Wind” times two. Lots of other gorgeous glass items for sale in her gallery.

In one photo you can see the blue glass window hanging that I purchased.

The Glass Station was the best fine art shop we found in our 6 weeks traveling around NL! The glass by the owner/artist is stunning and we were just blown away by her talent and the selection. I purchased a green and blue glass 'spruce tree' along with a carved puffin. The owner packed it up beautifully so that the tree made it home in one piece. She was also very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our chat with her. There were glass items of many iconic Newfoundland 'finds', like the lady slipper and the pitcher plant. There is more than just glass available and the other items available were beautiful too. This area was our first stop and we are so glad we found this shop, I now have two lovely 'souvenirs' of our trip. We are not done seeing NL so we will be back!

Hiking area
Berry Hill Campground is the largest and most centrally located campground in Gros Morne, making it an ideal base camp for exploration. The rustic cabins at this campground are similar to oTENTiks, featuring bunk beds, a table, and even a wood stove for warmth during chilly nights. While bugs are common in the area, the private campsites offer fire pits for cooking and staying warm.
Great Campground. Wonderful staff at the entrance who gave us all the info we needed. Stong wifi but confined to kitchen area. Sites are large, level, and well maintained. Washrooms are clean and well serviced

Great campground, room for lots of people but all in the woods so it doesn't feel crowded. Great host, good clean facilities, all services that you need. Enjoyed walking around this area too!
E P — Google review
We stayed in a tenting site. This campground is excellent. It's crazy clean and it shows. Bathrooms, laundry and sinks for dishes all great. The showers are a little rough but not at all a problem. Firewood is $11 a bundle which is entirely ridiculous... The hiking trail to the falls leaves right from the campground and I highly recommend it. Rocky harbour is a 5 min drive. If you see Walter working the gate there chat to him about things to do! He made our trip 100x better, were lucky to have met him and picked his brain. He is very passionate about the area and the park. We will be back to NL and this campground for sure. Thanks Walter!
JcCameron93 — Google review
Great campground, had some discomforts with the bathrooms needing soap and the had drier would only stay on for sports of 3 seconds at at time. Had issues with the accessible shower door locking.
Danielle B — Google review
Very tidy campground centrally located in Gros Morne National Park. Very nice sites that were clean and well maintained. My only complaints are that for a campground that could potentially host 400+ people, having only the single comfort station was inconvenient sometimes due to the high traffic. And really Parks Canada, if you're looking to save $$, maybe find ways other than supplying campers with the cheapest and thinnest toilet paper available.
Scott T — Google review
Quiet campground, decently central facilities, and free wifi, which is good because there is no cell service. Hiking trails right outside the gate.
Ian M — Google review
The location is outstanding! Could use more staff in early season as the one fabulous staff member was overwhelmed by great weather and people! Some sites could use some gravel.
Mike G — Google review
This site exceeded my expectations and the gentleman (who I basically describe as the Bob Ross of the camping world) that was in charge at the gate was one of the nicest and most welcoming people. I have met in a long while. Site was beautiful and actually woodsy. Bathrooms were very clean and had potable water. They even had a kitchen/wash area for dishes. (Again, potable water) Clean sites didn't see garbage. Didn't hear much noise during night and sites were well spaced. Staff went out of their way to make sure we were accommodated properly and knew where things were. 100% recommend. Would stay here again. Hopefully for a lot longer.

Mountain peak
Gros Morne, located on the west coast of Newfoundland Island, is a stunning national park shaped by geological forces. The flat-topped mountain offers breathtaking panoramic views from its peak. Visitors can explore the rocky Tablelands, lush landscapes of Green Gardens, and enjoy coastal walks with picturesque vistas. The area also boasts top-rated restaurants for a culinary tour and traditional live musical performances for a cultural experience. Additionally, the park features Western Brook Pond Fjord and hosts summer music and theatre festivals.
this 17 KM hike will get you gorgeous views, the gully will take you to a very false summit
Cindy B — Google review
The hike is strenuous, and slightly deceiving from what you would expect. The initial climb is approximately 5 kms to the "mountain" base, and once you slog up the rock crawl it's fairly level along the top. The deceiving part (for me at least) is that the decent back to the groomed section of the trail is more taxing than you would expect. This is the second time I've hiked the mountain, and from start to finish it took 4 hours and 43 minutes. I met other groups that were traveling faster, and others that had completed the hike in 8 hours. It's achievable for nearly any skill level; however, it is physically taxing.
Trevor W — Google review
Well worth the effort. Beautiful views, seems like it's always windy up top because people have built rock semi-circles to get out of the wind.

Good trail to hike. Awesome views. Worth hike it. But definitely not for beginners. Be prepared. Dont forget to bring water and food for full day. It can be maintained better. At some ways there are no signs for the path. and also some trails are not maintained in good condition. So be careful to choose the paths.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Trout River within Gros Morne National Park, the Seaside Restaurant is a popular dining spot featured in travel magazines. With a picturesque beachside location, it offers fresh and well-presented dishes. The enthusiastic owner shares the restaurant's history with diners, adding to the inviting atmosphere. While some found portion sizes slightly small, many praised the delicious seafood offerings and reasonable prices.
On a journey in the park myself and my friend took a short trip to Trout River and discovered this gem of a restaurant. My friend requested off menu items due to dietary restrictions and they were happy to make it. The owner (Jenny) and all staff were a true delight to converse with... so friendly. The food was extremely delicious. I am not a huge fish person in frequency but I had the fish chowder and fish burger and I'll tell you I wasn't disappointed at all. If you like fish you must try it. The best ever! The view and building was so cute. Make it a point to stop there for a meal when in the park and you will be glad you did.

This was a fantastic high quality meal. The fish was incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection, same with the sides. It was filling, great portion size. I wish I had more it was truly amazing. The décor was so nice, loved learning the history of the restaurant and the staff were very kind!

Great people here making your visit an exceptional and memorable one. Seaside location with a view. Had seafood chowder and fresh baked bun for lunch. Good brew selection. Highly recommended.
David C — Google review
A nice seafood restaurant who’s been there for 46 years! Service was fast and efficient and the food was ok. I just found it overpriced: 36$ for the scallops signature dish: the scallops were slightly overcooked, sided with basic rice, one broccoli stem and a few carrots. Fortunately, the garlic sauce with peppers was very good! I feel like the family business running up for decades is taking advantage of the tourists’ money.
Marine B — Google review
Incredible location and food! Close drive from the Tavlelands and Green Gardens trails. The fish sandwich was the best I have had in newfoundland. Love the history too! Cant wait to come back. Highly recommend.

Great Lunch after visiting Gros Morne Park. The food was so delicious and came right out! Very generous portions and amazing service. there’s a great view on the patio and there is live music inside the bar! Always call ahead to reserve because busy seasons they might not have enough seats for everyone! You would think that newfies don’t know how to poutine but their sauce and fries was actually great! The curds is missing some squeak though ;)
Ping-Chih T — Google review
We were looking for an old fashioned kitchen party and seen the ad for one at The Anchor Pub. We knew it wasn't exactly what we were looking for but we were hopeful it would be fun with good traditional music. If you are looking for mediocre karaoke with the occasional Maritimes tune thrown in then this is your place. I believe I heard the performer say he had been doing this for 19 years... I'm not sure how. He had a guitar but I think it was purely ornamental as he relied heavily on alot of background music. We stayed for about an hour to give the show a chance and our spirits lifted when they brought out traditional instruments like Ugly Sticks etc. That was shortlived as he followed one traditional Maritime song with Sweet Caroline and a Johnny Cash medley. Our night ended when he decided to play House of the Rising Sun... we had had enough. The point of my rant is... advertise this as a "live" karaoke music show. When you call it a Kitchen Party I, at least, have traditional music expectations and they were not even close to being met. SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC
Howard T — Google review
This was our experience without seeing a show. The place was half full with multiple tour bus groups having reserved seating. Which the servers gave all the priority to. Took around 15min just to get a server to our table. They boasted a new menu and said all their food was getting rave reviews. My wife ordered the chicken linguine and I ordered the steak sandwich. Drinks were good, but the food was very lackluster. The linguine had very little flavor to it, and the steak sandwich was 90% bread with the equivalent of a single deli slice of beef for the steak. Also very little flavor even after putting gravy on it.
Devin M — Google review
If I could give this zero stars I would. We left hungry and disappointed. The patio and atmosphere was lovely, but our server got us drinks then forgot we existed. Never took our food order. We gave up after an hour waiting for her to come back. She walked past us so many times and didn’t look at us while we tried to get her attention. We had to go up to her while she was clearing a table nobody was waiting for to ask for our bill. At this point we didn’t have time to get in anywhere else. Most tables on the patio were staring off into space and waiting long periods for her to come back, but she only had 5 tables. If she’s new I feel awful, but if that’s the case she needs some support.
Rebecca G — Google review
I understand if ur busy but we waited to be seated for 15 minutes while staff walked by us several times ignoring us. I mean at least let us know you'll be with us shortly or something. Eventually went up to a waitress who was looking right past but ignoring us, to ask if we could seat ourselves. She said yes so we sat down, waited another 15-20 minutes multiple waitresses walked by as if we weren't there. Eventually went to a restaurant next door that was twice as busy, took our order within 5 minutes. Would recommend going elsewhere if you don't have 3-4 hours to eat.
Aaron — Google review
We attended the anchors aweigh show and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. A pretty decent selection of bottled and tap beers and a waitstaff that was extremely friendly attentive and made a pleasant night even more memorable. We did not eat, but the other tables around us did and all of the food looked quite delicious. I can’t say enough about the show itself, it was great! Excellent musicians and music interspersed with witty banter. And again, all of the waitresses were top-notch

Very well organized, great guides, you get to see the western newfoundland nature and taste local food. As you would expect from an island in the Atlantic, food choices focus on gifts from the sea quite heavily. For me kayaking in the bay was a highlight of the whole trip. They are the only ones in the Gros Morne area who offer such an option. In general, great experience and team, highly recommend .

We did the Long Range Traverse with Matt and Qasim. Being from Winnipeg…. We trained as much as possible. On our first day, halfway up the ascent my wife’s hiking boots catastrophically failed. An amazing 5 days. Our guides were first rate and also knew a great deal of the geology. The accommodations were excellent. The owners are just wonderful people and so is everyone who works with them.

Today we did a 2-hour guided kayak tour around Bonne Bay. This was our very first kayaking experience and being in the ocean, it was quite intimidating. Our tour guide Emily was excellent; so friendly and knowledgeable about the area and made us feel more at ease despite rough conditions at times. The other staff were great as well with instructions and providing our gear. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that we were not notified that the dry bags were an extra cost until after we had paid for our tour and were ready to get in our kayak; we thought this was included in the tour cost. Other than that, it was an excellent tour and first kayaking experience!

We thoroughly our 3 Day Gems of Gros Morne tour. We loved hiking and learning about the geology of theTablelands, spending time in Woody Point and exploring Western Brook and Gros Morne North. Luna was a superb tour guide, full of energy, fun, passion and an incredible amount of knowledge in addition to be an expert hiker and athlete. The boat tour in the ancient fjords was breathtaking and led by an energetic, fun crew filled with knowledge and history of the area. It was a joy to spend an afternoon with Keith learning about Indigenous culture and history and making a fire from flint and then enjoying delicious bannock, moose meat and capelin over the fire. We loved our morning of sea kayaking in Bonnie Bay with 2 excellent, friendly and very knowledgeable guides. Robbie and Kristen and the whole Gros Morne team were friendly, welcoming and very well-organized. We stayed in a beautiful, modern, spotless cabin in Norse Point organized by Gros Morne Adventures with a lovely porch and breathtaking views to wake up to each morning. Highly recommend. Hiking Trails
Located near the south end of Gros Morne National Park, the Eastern Point Trail offers a scenic and relatively short hike with stunning views. Although not featured on the park map, it is a hidden gem worth exploring. The trail begins near Trout River and features several viewpoints along the way. As you ascend, you may encounter grazing sheep before reaching a plateau with panoramic vistas of Trout River and the lighthouse area.
One of our favorite trails from a 2-1/2 week journey across NL. I think of this as the "Cliffs Notes" version of Green Gardens because it is shorter but has many similar features. We were able to complete the trail all the way to the end in late May. The trail provides a variety of landscapes and some modest challenges. We, as older and only moderately fit hikers, did not feel like we pushed it too hard or were ever at risk of hurting ourselves. The area is gorgeous and well worth a visit.

My dog Juni and I hiked the trail this morning and it is a gem. There’s initially a long set of steps to climb to reach the plateau but then it’s just lightly rolling inclines out to the point and it provides some pretty incredible views of Trout River and the overall cove. I was amazed with the rocky cliffs and I strong recommend this trail.

Would give a 5 stars if I can finish the trail. The trail location is great - beautiful view of Trout River village and the sunset. But the trail is not well maintained. Part of it through the woods filled with swamp waters so we were not able to get through to finish the trail.

The tour allows foraging for delicious berries and offers spectacular views of Gros Morne hills.
Absolutely 5 stars! Trina is knowledgeable and friendly! I've lived in Newfoundland for eight years, but today's experience made me realize how rich the flora, fauna, and history here are. Unless you've lived in Rocky Harbour for generations, this ATV tour will definitely be an eye-opener and help you understand the local way of life. My girlfriend and I are not very good at English, but Trina was patient and went out of her way to explain some words we had never heard before! We really learned a lot! It was amazing because it was short notice (our family met her on the plane we were taking to NFL) and yet she packed her whole tickle trunk and blew us away! We are only in NFL for 10 days but what a way to start the trip off! Definitely will be back and hope to see her at more family events!

Trina is an absolute delight and I am so glad we did this tour. One of the true highlights of our gals’ trip to NFLD. We did the Eastern Arm tour on a foggy, rainy morning but this did not get in our way of thoroughly enjoying 2 hours on back country trails with Trina in her off road vehicle. One of our group was pregnant and it felt totally safe and comfortable. Trina is full of interesting information about the land, the local history and culture, the Park, and the ways that a focus on sustainability and accessibility can make tourism a positive thing. Keep your eyes peeled because we did see one shy moose hidden in the trees!

Clean, spacious, modern visitor centre. The bilingual staff was very helpful and patient. There were two at the moment and they handled all the visitor questions efficiently. The building is architecturally beautiful, in form and materials. Inside, the furniture was just as modern and beautiful. Even the colours were muted green and neutrals to reflect the nature outside. A long bentwood bench made a statement, facing the banners advertising all thee activities you can do. The washrooms were super clean and the faucet was also modern with the water and soap in one piece. Much like the Dyson in many public washrooms, but this one looked better.

Regional airport
Deer Lake Regional Airport is situated on the western part of the island and serves as a convenient entry point for international travelers, particularly those arriving from the United States. The airport offers major rental car agencies, making it easy to pick up a vehicle upon arrival. Navigating the island by car is relatively straightforward due to its limited road network.
Pretty good for a small airport in a somewhat remote area in Canada. It’s clean, organized, friendly security personnel, a small Robins donut and snack area, outlets for plugging in your phone can be found on some posts, and a huge window to see the planes and staff in operation. They have art in the airport too - from sculpture to murals. One of the best features for me was the Flybrary - a small section with gently used books encouraging travellers to take a book and return them when they fly back or replace with another book. Organized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Library. This is such a neat and brilliant idea, I wish all the airports in Canada did the same. There’s a little box compete with a red fire hydrant where pets can do their toilet needs! Cool!

Say what you will about smaller airports but personally, I prefer them. My 8th time here. Security has never taken more than 5 minutes. Not a whole lot of amenities/stores, but it does have all of the basics. Rental parking is very close to the terminal. There are only 3 gates so the waiting area is small. Staff are always friendly.

Awesome experience at Deer lake airport. Got to love these small airports with friendly people, respect and everything we need. From parking availability, to very welcoming people (car rental, security, plane companies etc), such a pleasant place to be ! Security is on top as well, while friendly, I think I triggered all the possible detectors with my semi metallic belt :) , yet, they handled it with respect and professionalism as well.

For a smaller airport I would say they are doing a great job. Have never had a problem and the staff is always more than helpful. big up on the Robin's now after you pass through security.

Javier S — Google review
This is the most poorly organized airport I’ve ever been in. The people here are great but it’s so busy that you need to wait for an hour to drop bags. There are no self serve bag drop stations. This place needs to be bigger with a lot more staff. It’s so loud that you cannot hear any announcements. Everyone shows up 2-1/2 bouts early to make the flight because it is known that it takes that long to get through the crowd. Often times people that are scheduled later are ahead of you in the line which slows things down even more. I do all I can to avoid this place.
Robert M — Google review
Small airport, easy to locate off highway, plenty of parking, easy to rent/return cars, inside has gift shop and info centre, multiple car rental stations, place to eat and and a gift shop, inside gate area has vending machines that need cash.

It's hard to give this tiny airport a bad review. I mean it's not 5 stars but I've never had a bad experience here either. Staff are friendly and helpful. There's a cafe, convenience store, water fountain and the bathroom facilities are clean. Tons of seating with places to plug in. Parking is available and I've never seen it crowded so getting in and out is fast.

Out East Adventure Centre offers a unique experience for advanced hikers with the only permit access to Western Brook Pond, known for its iconic and spectacular fjord views. The guided hike in July provided breathtaking scenery and helpful guides who went above and beyond. The hostel accommodation featured curtains on bunks for privacy, lockers, and well-equipped kitchen facilities. Additionally, visitors enjoyed the option of ordering food from the accommodating staff.
I was fortunate to go on the Western Brook Pond guided hike in July on my first trip to Newfoundland and was absolutely blown away on this tour. The hike itself was unforgettable with absolutely phenomenal views at the top and all throughout. Every section of the hike was spectacular, including the boat tour which felt like such an awesome bonus. This hike is physically demanding but even the most challenging parts were manageable with our guide leading the way making every section feel safe, fun and adventurous. Aside from the nature and landscape itself being one for the books, our REMARKABLE guide Garry added so much to the day with his own knowledge and incredible passion for nature. He showed up with high energy and carried it throughout the whole day, determined to make our experience unforgettable and he most certainly did. He made our group feel capable of crossing rivers and scaling rock slides, we learned SO much about the local wildlife, and he shared important indigenous history. He even spent time taking a very generous amount of REALLY nice photos of us at the top that are now forever memories. We got so many bonuses thanks to Garry and I truly will never forget this day and would say it's worth every single penny. THANK YOU!!! <3

Went on the Western Brook Pond day hike and our guide was Garry. Right from the start it was well organized, safe and on time. During the challenging parts of the hike we were advised how to safely hike up and down the valley. Much of the hike involves balancing from rock to rock and climbing through roots/mud and everything else. Garry was very informative on all flora/fauna and history of the Western Brook Pond. We felt very supported during the entire day. This is one day that I will never be able to forget!

We had the absolute best time on our Western Brooke Pond hike - perfect weather and honestly the best guide I’ve ever had on a guided hike. Our guide Garry had such a bright spirit and vibe, he made the whole hike, there and back, really fun for our group. I learnt A LOT about the geology, plants, animals, LICHENS of the area and greater Newfoundland too. And to top it off he took the most insane photos of us at the lookout point. One of my favourite hikes ever and I would highly recommend going to the top of the Brooke with Out East. Worth the price and more, hands down. You just gotta book it!
Adrian K — Google review
I went on the western brook pond hike, with Gary and Mikayla(spelling?). It was an amazing experience. Gary was a very knowledgeable and high energy guide. It was quite an experience getting to see him hike the same trail as the group while simultaneously spouting out plant/animal facts, as well as scouting for moose. He seemed to know every foothold to use, every root to grab, and every rock to avoid stepping on. He did everything in his power to make it a great hike and to get everyone there and back safely. Mikayla (Spelling?), our other guide, was excellent at guiding people through tough spots and showing everyone the proper path. She was also full of factoids regarding the area's plants, lichen, and animals. The hike itself was the toughest I've ever done, it was truly a challenge and I advise anyone reading this review to prepare physically more than I did. With the right mix of physical ability, and mental toughness, you can get to the top and see a truly amazing view. 20/10 experience

Absolutely gorgeous hostel! Out East Adventure Hostel feels newly renovated and incredibly well thought out. The beds were super cozy and set up for privacy, which I really appreciated. Each one came with its own fan, nightlight, and a power station with both USB and traditional plug options—such thoughtful touches. The rooms were spacious, the showers were amazing, and everything was spotlessly clean. The open layout created a true communal feel, which made it easy to meet fellow travelers from around the world. I ended up going on adventures with new friends I met right there at the hostel—exactly the kind of experience you hope for when staying at a place like this. Another huge bonus: you can book guided tours right through the hostel, and they even have a fully stocked outdoor store on site. The boot drying unit was a small detail, but after a rainy hike, it made a big difference. This place absolutely nailed it. Clean, comfortable, friendly, and adventure-ready—I highly recommend it!

I did the western brook hike with Gary and it was an incredible experience! Gary was very knowledgeable and shared all about Newfoundland’s beautiful plants and animals throughout the hike. He set a good pace for the experience level of the group and kept safety as a priority. He also took some really great photos of everyone at the top! We saw also got to see a moose :). I really enjoyed this hike - very worth the money - and so thankful we had Gary as our guide!

Convenient and affordable with all functional facilities, Friendly hosts. We even cooked lobster meals after checking out😋 The West Brook Pond day hiking tour was awesome! Timing and trail access were well organized by great people. Our guides Gary, Nate, Makayla and Adam were extremely helpful in making the hike an enjoyable experience. Gary is very knowledgeable on the area’s geological features, flora and fauna, outdoor safety, photography, etc.. We all came back home with unforgettable memories and breathtaking pictures. Thanks to Gary’s great and funny pose suggestions!

Went on the Western Brook Day Hike tour with Gary and Aiden and had one of the most amazing tours I’ve ever been on. First of all the hike is TOP TIER. I’ve hiked all over Alberta, Europe and Asia and you won’t see a view like this anywhere else. It’s something special! It’s a once in a lifetime tour. You must do this at least once in your life. Second of all Gary and Aiden - our guides were extremely passionate and loved their jobs which really showed. They are very safe and adjust to the speed of the group. This is in my opinion, the most important aspect of an adventure activity. No one should get hurt and even if it took a little longer, they made sure everyone made it home safely and uninjured. I really appreciated there attention to that. I would highly recommend requesting them for your guide if you are worried about the hike in any aspect. In addition, I really appreciated their insight and breaks to talk about plant life, animal life and the history of the Indigenous peoples (such as the Beothuk) of the island. Gary especially did an outstanding job acknowledging that most of his knowledge was learned from the Mi'kmaq. Lastly, as a bonus, both guides were amazing photographers and helped the entire group take amazing photographs. Overall, an absolutely amazing tour and something that everyone should do. Highly recommend Gary and Aiden if you get the chance!

Trout River Campground, located in a quiet area with little light pollution, offers breathtaking views of the Mars-like Tablelands and access to pebble beaches for campfires and swimming. The campground provides private campsites, clean washroom facilities, and is close to many awesome hikes. While currently under renovations, the staff is accommodating and the views are worth any minor inconveniences.
Small beautiful campground. Small grassy sites with trees around each one. Walk to the lake is lovely. Warm showers and kitchen area. No dump. no electric or water at the sites. Kitchen shelter. Quiet and peaceful.

Another great campground from parks Canada. Lady was very friendly and helpful. Lots were clean and good size. Bathrooms are modern and very clean. Nice hot showers were welcomed with the cold spell we were having. Many good trails within a few kilometres from the park. Green Garden and Tableland are a must with Green Garden being the toughest one of the two. Please make you way to the little restaurant at the village, you will not regret it.

We've been really impressed with Parks Canada campgrounds and Trout River did not disappoint when we visited in July. Good location for getting to hikes and park programs in South part of the park. Loved the evening campfire with Marcella learning about her Mi'kmaq culture. Don't miss it! Tablelands tour also very informative!
Lesa W — Google review
The campsite is currently under renovations so the trailer that they are using for showers and bathrooms is not as nice. It's clean, but the showers were cold in the morning because of high traffic. The wood was very wet, so that made a fire difficult. That said, the campsite was gorgeous, the staff was incredible and so accommodating, and the views are absolutely worth every minor inconvenience. If you get the opportunity, the tablelands hike is breathtaking and not at all difficult. It's really close to trout river campground. Highly recommend!

Gros Morne National Park's Green Point Geological Site is a unique and often overlooked gem within the park. It offers a distinct experience for those interested in rocks, geohistory, and tidepools. During low tide, visitors can easily walk out to the point, but should be cautious of slippery seaweed. The area is teeming with fascinating marine life such as crabs, hermit crabs, and shrimp in the tide pools.
It is a underrated location in the park. On top of stunning showing of rock and fossil forming, it has beautiful scenic views of the coastal creatures and landscape! Highly recommended to anyone hiking in the area.

Green Point is a geological treasure trove, offering a unique opportunity to explore half a billion years of Earth's history. This unassuming site on Newfoundland's west coast holds immense scientific significance, having been designated as the Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) for the Cambrian-Ordovician boundary. A short walk from the parking lot leads to a series of layered rocks that tell a story of ancient oceans and evolving life. Fossils of trilobites and graptolites are embedded within these rocks, providing tangible evidence of life forms that existed millions of years ago. The contrast between the soft, layered rocks and the rugged coastal landscape is both striking and thought-provoking. The site is remarkably dog-friendly, allowing visitors to share this extraordinary experience with their furry companions. As you explore the area, keep an eye out for the iconic red Parks Canada chairs, offering a perfect spot to relax and contemplate the immensity of time. While there's no formal hiking trail, the area invites exploration. The short distance from the parking lot to the cliffs makes it accessible to visitors of all ages and fitness levels. However, caution should be exercised when exploring the rocky shoreline, as the terrain can be uneven. Green Point is a place where science meets nature in a truly awe-inspiring way. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in geology, history, or simply the beauty of the natural world.

Another unique and amazing place different from the other locations in Gros Morne. This one sometimes gets missed with the other locations being higher profile, but this place should not be missed, especially if you like rocks, geohistory, and tidepools. At low tide it is easy to walk way out to the point, but the seaweed can be slippery. Lots of cool things like crabs, hermit crabs, and shrimp, in the tide pools if you just sit still and watch for a minute. Great views from up top, but it is not difficult to get down. There is also an easy road to walk that you pass on the way to the parking lot that leads to some fishing shacks and the beach. You can see the location from Green Point campground beach. More information about the location is at the visitor centre in Woody Point.

Cow Head Lighthouse is a charming spot that can be reached via a well-maintained trail from the village of Cow Head. The hike, which takes about 10 minutes, offers stunning views and passes through dense tree growth. While visitors cannot enter the lighthouse, it has been recently repainted and is a picturesque sight. Additionally, there are information boards providing insights into the lighthouse's history.
Drive to the end of the main road leading into Cow Head, which will take you past beautiful views of beaches and the ocean vistas. You will find signs that lead you to a parking area where the trail head is clearly marked. We were surprised to find the lighthouse surrounded by trees and no visible to the ocean. Loved the quiet trail with ocean views and the cute signs along the trail. Lovely spot for an easy hike.

Nice little (tiny actually) lighthouse that is found after a little hike from a car park. The hike itself is really easy, along a well maintained path with stairs, etc. Walk to the lighthouse itself is about 10 or so minutes from the car park, but I really recommend pressing on to the Point of the Head, which is quite stunning. Path along the way passes in some of the densest small trees growth I have seen.

The Art of the Ocean Gallery in Rocky Harbour is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. It showcases a diverse collection of ocean-inspired art, including a real preserved whale skeleton and striking humpback whale sculptures suspended from the ceiling. Visitors can admire and purchase various displays and functional art pieces. The gallery also features resin artwork by a local artist, as well as locally crafted candles and soap designs.
Of all the shops selling work by Newfoundland artists that we visited on this trip, this one was by far my favourite. Trying to narrow down which pieces I wanted (by space in my luggage and budget) was the challenging part. I settled on multiple items that I absolutely love, but I’m still dreaming of a piece I saw that was (sadly) already sold. I loved how she represented then ocean in her work, in multiple mediums. I highly recommend visiting here and considering taking home one of Miranda’s pieces of art.
