Yummy beer and gin tasting. Could not decide what to drink after the tasters, everything was superb. Food well prepared and reasonably priced. Service a bit slow, even though it was not busy. Enjoyed the outside seating, lovely autumn day. We arrived quite early , before 10h00 and it was still very quiet.

Quite a nice location however the staff often did not get the beers right when explaining. Gin tasting was average. Enjoyed the macaroni and cheese balls.

Must stop when in Clarens . I’m not one for beer but the tastings are a fun to do . The Blonde was actually very good . But wow the food was just exceptional, did not expect it to be as good as it was . If we were here longer we would certainly have been back ! Service was good too

Popped in for a light lunch and the gin tasting. The food was made fresh, the portions were big and it was super tasty. The gin tasting was affordable and a lovely introduction to the gins they have on tap. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout our meal.

My second visit to this amazing brewery and I will not stop talking about it for a long time!! Awesome selection of craft beers Clarens Red is a firm favourite!! Brought back some Red Ale to prolong the enjoyment

My family and I visited here last week for an early dinner. Their food was exceptional. Great service and good size portion of food. we ordered two kids meals and 2 adult meals... all were very tasty.

Highland Coffee is a nice little coffee shop just off of the square. It was enjoyably quiet/calm during our visit. The croissants (especially the chocolate one) and the coffee were great. They also have coffee beans available to purchase (whole or ground for you).

Popped in to this delightful coffee shop for a much needed coffee. The coffee was superb and we met Sigal the owner who was so very kind to my elderly Dad. I wish we could go back tomorrow but it's a bit far. Thoroughly recommend going here.

We enjoyed coffee here each day. Vincent that works there is an amazing barista and makes the most amazing coffee with a face in the cappuccino each day.

Visited Highland Coffee Roastery on our trip to Clarens - the coffee and baked goodies we had here were definitely worth a visit! The almond croissants were fresh out the oven and were so delicious. The coffee was still the star of our visit and we were happy to find out that their online store ships their beans nationwide! If you’re in Clarens (or even if you’re just looking for some great coffee online), Highland Coffee Roastery is worth the visit!

Its a beautiful store. Its probably a place for tourists to pick up some goodies and Souvenirs. But as a local, I felt the shop items were overpriced even compared to the other stores along the street. The bubble tea was something the kids enjoyed.

This store is really fun to be inside. Tons of stuffs to choose from like toys for kids, jams, pickles, biscuits, dishes, etc. For those who prefer liquor, there's something for everyone. The store has a lot of old artefacts that will take you back in time. Stunning views from the back of this store. There is also a place to sit and have your tea and snacks.

What an wonderful place. Lived to see the Wilson toffees that I remember from my childhood. With delicious home made products. Something to discover around each new corner. A absolute must visit when in Clarens.

Amazing! 5 stars all round. We got a table by the fireplace which added to the ambience. The staff was helpful and attentive, they made sure to share the day's specials and the restaurant's star dishes. We ordered the Oxtail and baked chicken pasta, we were not disappointed. Both meals were generous in size and absolutely delicious! We also ordered dessert which was the perfect ending to an incredible Dining experience.

I am sure there's a good reason why the restaurant has a high rating, unfortunately our experience was not worthy of anything more than a 3. We were not happy to sit at the last table which was near the door and we requested to sit elsewhere, the manager on duty was visibly irritated with our request. I ordered a starter and when it didn't meet my expectations, I requested to return it, again, the manager visible irritated, tried to justify why my starter looked the way it did. The main meal was just ok. Our server remained patient and helpful throughout the evening. The restaurant is beautiful with great ambience. I just wish the experience matched.

What a lovely restaurant right in the middle of Clarens. My parents and I were on a day trip there, and thanks to a friends recommendation we ate here. The menu was very extensive, and the specials board was nearly as big as the menu. I can recommend the butternut, walnut salad, it was delicious. As was my Dads Chicken tikka. If you're in Clarens you need to visit and eat here.

A Stew Lover’s Dream and a Rhubarb Revelation If you’re on the hunt for rich, soul-warming comfort food, this hidden gem delivers in spades. The oxtail stew is nothing short of magnificent—fall-off-the-bone tender, slow-cooked to perfection in a deeply flavorful gravy that tastes like it’s been simmering for generations. Equally impressive is the steak and Guinness pie, a hearty, robust dish with melt-in-your-mouth beef and a dark, malty depth from the Guinness that lingers delightfully on the palate complimented by a mash covering giving it a “cottage pie” feel. Just when you think it can’t get any better, the dessert menu surprises with a rhubarb crumble that’s both nostalgic and exceptional. To my knowledge, this is possibly the only rhubarb crumble available in a restaurant in South Africa, and certainly the best I’ve ever tasted. Comparative to those served in the UK. Its tart rhubarb meets a golden, chocolatey crumble in perfect harmony, served warm with a warm custard that seals the deal. In a world of overcomplicated dishes and fussy plating, this restaurant reminds us that simple, honest food made exceptionally well is always in style. Anyone not giving a 5 star review clearly is deflecting their own personal “frustrations with life” and should be respectfully ignored. Clementines is the greatest restaurant in the Free State and in good company with the top restaurants of South Africa.

Very good food at a very decent price. We had a springbok carpaccio and then a beef fillet. The white wine was really good. A great address in Clarens. Loved it 😍

Came for the weekend from Jhb, wanted to have dinner and wasn’t sure about coming here to be honest. But service was great, and the food is FANTASTIC. We ordered several starters as our meal, to try a bit of everything, The pork belly starters were absolutely divine. The bread was hot with actual butter - not margarine. Will highly recommend visiting Clementines. Great food great relaxed vibe, fast friendly service.

Without fail, each time we come to Clarens we visit Clementines, and each time the food is outstanding! The lamb shank and oxtail was delicious, soft and fall off the bone!

The Clarens Conservancy Village is an absolute treasure for nature lovers and hikers! The trails are incredibly well-maintained, with thoughtful touches like benches along the way to rest and take in the scenery — perfect for both casual walks and longer hikes. One of my favourite parts was the Porcupine Path (the black trail). It's not only adorable with little painted footsteps guiding you, but it's also eco-conscious — the markers are done with environmentally friendly paint on the sandstone, which shows great respect for the natural surroundings. The views are breathtaking — quite literally! As you climb, especially on the Porcupine Path, you're treated to a stunning panoramic view of Clarens. It’s peaceful, scenic, and truly magical. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore the beauty of the area without disturbing its natural charm. Would you like a shorter or more casual version for social media or a travel blog?

I spend most afternoons and weekends out on these trails. Right now, flowers are out everywhere, in yellows, reds, purples and blues. And the view of the village from up there is unparalleled. So many shades of green! I think any visitor or local who doesn't at least attempt the easy, short Spruit Walk is missing out on half of what Clarens has to offer. Many shops (and locals) can direct you and help you pay the ridiculously cheap permit fees.

Beautiful hiking trails available. Purchase your permit and map from Clarens Brewery in town before you go. We did the Caracal Contour route and the views were breathtaking. Route not to difficult, last part of the decent down to the dam may be a bit difficult for the novice hiker, as we are. One must just be wary of loose rocks. 10/10

Beautiful hike through the conservancy. Roundtrip over the mountain with beautiful views of Clarens. Total distance is 5km with about 240m elevation gain. You can buy your permit at most establishments in town.

It’s always a pleasure to be unbound in nature. Even though you can see the roofs and part of the town, it’s relatively quiet.There is a bit of everything for the avid hikers or the casual walkers. The waterfall does not disappoint and the walk is easy and short enough.

A very well maintained and cared for nature reserve with a great selection of walking trails through beautiful countryside. Maps and permits are available in town at various stores and the paths are all well signposted with benches at viewpoints along the way.

Best of all engaging activities for all to keep your family occupied for your stay. Bonus? If you'd like a mini family feud to make your stay a little more homely? The adventure golf is your go to! Where every member keeps an eagle eye to catch another cheating member, toddlers create a wonderful accessory to this game where they believe they can take as many hits as they like without them counting, start fresh, move the ball. Which then creats a humerous site for all when the teenage siblings then express their feelings on the unfairness of the parents. Although you try to explain that sometimes with an over tired little one you have got to pick your battles.and this isn't one of them! Hahahah. Overall what an amazing 5 star experience

Last week Daniel took us on a 2hour 4 wheel tour up the mountains and he made it so worth it! What a great experience and Daniel was excellent!!! Will definitely recommend this to everyone. The views are incredible.

Clarens is such a wonderful gem to explore. My family and I made our way to Xtreme adventure for a bit of fun for all and they delivered! They have funtivities that range for all ages!

I can safely recommend this place to everyone. I requested their price via mail and received it in no time. When we got there all the staff and guides were friendly, very helpful and patient. You can tell they're passionate about their work. The zipline is very exhilarating and the wall climbing is nice. Definitely going back again soon to do more activities.

A quaint little book store that sells both new and pre owned books. Its more about the feel of the place than the collection of books that it offers. We were able to pick up some interesting books here for the whole family.

We got lucky on Monday, the owner opened on a whim. It is usually her day to attend to private matters. We found a few gems in the wide variety of both English and Afrikaans offerings. I spotted a few German books. Not badly priced. I will go back again and again.

Small privately run bookstore with an eclectic selection of mainly used books and vinyl. Good selection of local and South African history books. Well worth a trip, as you may come across that book you been searching for that is now out of print. Knowledge staff.

Such a treat to have a little pampering while in Clarens. Conveniently located, fairly priced and our back, neck and shoulder massages were lovely.

Very disappointing gel manicure. No cream or cuticle oil used. No cleaning of cuticles / cutting dead skin. Pics below are exactly what my nails looked like. The gel lifted within 5 days, and I was left with base coat on my nails.

My husband and I came out this place very happy. We had visited the Bubble but decided to cancel on the person who was suppose to come at the bubble, we couldn’t have made a BETTER actual Best choice. I wish they had a branch in Joburg, that can take care of hubby’s foot needs.

My therapist disappeared after 75 mins in a 90 min massage and never came back. Was def not a balinese masage. Expensive oil rub. Two other friends also had similar experience. Not great massages. They received complimentary drinks and my husband and I did not. Will not be back unfortunately.

A Clarens favourite, which is open 7 days a week. We were excited to taste their infamous Oxtail but they didn't have stock that night. So we settled for a pizza and steak which didn't disappoint. Cosy atmosphere and pet friendly.

Great food, the prawn and chicken curry was very flavourful, would only prefer they add carrot salad instead of the banana and chutney sides. My wife had the oxtail it was falling off the bone and was very delicious.

I drove 15km back the next day, for food and beer! What a lovely experience. It was really cosy, even with the minus 2 degrees outside. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was great. Than you, will definitely visit again

It's a nice casual place. The food was great - I had the Roasted Duck with Cherries - real cherries in the sauce made a touch sweet, which went well with my glass of Pinotage. My husband had the Oxtail - a huge meal with mash. Very flavorsome. Tookout desserts home - cheesecake with berry coulis and Apple pie delicious 😋

I have been to the Highlander a few times and their food and service never disappoints. If eating there for breakfast I would recommend anything from their breakfast menu or if you’re in the mood for something sweet, their cheese cake is delightful!!! Their lunch and dinner menu also has some great options to choose from. The staff is always friendly and welcoming and the service is efficient and consistent. I always recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Clarens as it’s a great place for a good meal and a great experience.

I've been here several times, the food never disappoints me and it is always well made. Highly recommended on the beef shin osso bucco, ox tail and the eisbein.

We arrived for dinner without a reservation and asked for a table. The staff seemed confused—looking at each other, discussing something—before finally asking the lady behind the bar (who we assumed was the manager) if there was a free table, even though half the restaurant was empty. It made us feel a bit awkward. We ordered a spaghetti Bolognese, a curry, and a pizza. The food was okay.

Absolutely great German food and beer. The vibe was great with the fireplace going and cold weather outside. Service was a bit slow but understandable when the restaurant was busy.

It was such a delight to dine at Roter Hahn. We felt like we were transported to a real German pub in Germany. There was a variety of German beers or offer. And also other drinks on tap that were delicious. The warm platter was delicious...especially the variety of sausages and the freshly baked breads. They give BIG portions of both food and drinks for reasonable prices. Also dont forget to browse through the shop selling a variety of German goodies. Its definitely a must visit spot if you want an authentic German dining experience in Clarens!

This was our second visit to Roter Hahn, and we loved it just as much as the first time! The warm platter is our absolute favourite — great flavour, generous portions, and amazing value for money. There are so many delicious options to choose from, and the atmosphere is always relaxed and welcoming. The beautiful view just adds to the experience — it’s the perfect spot for a meal in Clarens. Highly recommend!

A surprising German experience with very good cuisine and a great selection of beer. Definitely worth a visit! We will certainly visit again when in Clarens.

Quite possibly the best Eisbein I've ever had! Staff were friendly and the in-house sauerkraut is heavenly. Lovely little deli as well 😁 Lekker atmosphere with German music playing. What a delightful little place. Would definitely visit again. Highly recommend it.

Oh how we loved the German atmosphere, food, beer and music! This is a must visit in Clarens. Make sure you book your table They have a small enclosed play area outside for kids to play as well! The music and vibe is really nice and the prices excellent. Don't forget to grab some goodies at the little deli inside the restaurant. Only recommendation - the bar area was extremely cluttered with dirty glasses and looked like it needed a good clean.

I'm very disappointed in the manager of this place. We went there a month ago and I purchased a fairly expensive dark chocolate slab from them. When I returned to our guesthouse I opened the chocolate and saw that it had expired. I returned it the next day and noticed that the receipt actually said that the chocolate was "damaged", and that the expiry date had been removed. The manager apologize and agreed to remove all the expired chocolates. Now, a month later, I went back to the shop and saw the same expired chocolates still on the shelves. I complained to the same manager and he instructed one of the staff to remove it. I won't be surprised if they are still selling it.

This place makes my heart smile. There's sooooo many interesting, colourful, delicious-looking foody and craft items. I went back for a second visit because I didn't get my fill the first time round. My Purple Onion stash includes African Nightshade Berry Jam (Msoba); Cherry Jam; Raspberry Fudge; Turkish Delight in 3 different flavours; an assortment of chocolate truffles and fridge magnets 💚 Some of those are gifts 🤣 The store also has spices, sauces oil and dried fruit. Definitely give this gem a visit if you're in Clarens, it's totes worth it 🙌

The place is classic in design and the service was of average standard. The amount of variety is incredible and incomparable to any other of the little Delis in Clarens. However! The place seems to be ripped by tourism and a slight heavy hand when it comes to the cost of things. All items no matter how small are marked up to a little ridiculous mark ups. R150 a note pad and R80 a small Jar of Jam. No sorry. Ended up not buying anything...

Go check out the purple onion while in Clarens. Nice variety of items, ranging from Spices, coffees, sweets merchandise. Great selection of magnets as well. Even with kids you can browse at your leisure as there is some playground type equipment just outside the store that will keep your young kids happily entertained. There is also an interesting art gallery leading into the store where you can see exquisite local painting or both display and purchase.

Very neat and tidy with a huge selection of artisinal jams, preserves, pickles and coffees with a unusual twist - brandy coffee. If you have a sweet tooth, you can indulge your senses, especially your taste buds with a large variety of unusual sweets, liquorice (Darrell Lea) , Wedgwood nougat and fudge. The New Beginnings Chocolate Caramels Turkish delight is both unusual and mouth watering with a hint of 🌹 rose petals, chocolate and caramel. The artisinal Gins are superb with colourful labels, unusual labels, names and tastes But the most unusual item in the store is the Planting Chocolate - Garden of Herbs allowing you to Grow Your Own!

Great walk! Well marked trail with great views all around. Be sure to buy your conservancy tickets to support the maintenance of the paths.

The views are excellent, the trail is amazing, there is arrows that are different colours that shows different routes, we got lost a little bit because some arrows contradict each other by showning you to go in one direction and then 10min later all the arrows point in the opposite direction, another 10 min later and they point forward again, so we just walked based on feeling and colours we ignored the direction of the arrows. We found that there is 4 colored routes which we saw they were purple, blue, red and yellow, we also noticed that you can start walking at the kloofdam hiking trail and will be able to finish all the way at the titanic point if you walk blue arrows to purple arrows, the red arrows seemed to take us to a point overlooking clarens at a conveyor belt fixed to the overhang of the cliff i think it is there for abseiling. Overall the views are beautiful we went a little off trail the one day to move along the cliffs because the blue route takes you around the peaks which then makes you miss all the beautifull cliffs and overhangs

We couldn’t go hiking there, but from the road was also beautiful.

This is a very nice reserve with an entry permit that is affordable and is vid for 1 week. The Titanic trail is a nice day hike, with a easy to medium level in the first half, with a steeper and more difficult incline in the second half. Great views and a nice place to stop and have a snack. There are other trails to continue on once at the end of the Titanic trail, at the top.

It is in nature reserve and you can go hiking there. Unless you going to climb at it hike is almost walk in park. There is no parking and people usually park in front of Maluti Mountain lodge, couple of hundred meters from entrance to nature reserve. Access is free.

I can’t speak to the accommodation experience as I was just there for the afternoon but I must say the course is incredible and food at the club was delicious. Definitely a must for golfers/visitors in this lovely town.

What a stunner of a golf course! Mountain views all the way, and has a very relaxed vibe. The course and especially the greens are really well maintained. Beautiful undulating fairways, with some sneaky green-hugging bunkers, and water hazards here and there to keep things interesting. Practice green and Driving range are also well kept. Hubby and I really enjoyed our 18 ⛳ I am a still a golf noob, but found the course extremely enjoyable. Halfway lunch selection was decent and served right on time. The Clubhouse is neat and staff really welcoming. We'll definitely be back for another round in the not too distant future

A great layout, unfortunately, a couple of frosts have burnt off the grass, albeit it does give you run. Greens were true really good. Will play again if we're in Clarens. Pro Shop staff were very friendly and helpful.

Well played out course, got alot of potential. Greens were good however the fairways were not great. They have had a dry winter season. Shane at the pro shop was very helpful and friendly.

What a wonderful experience... From the lodging to the view! It was just spectacular. This place is refreshing and offers you that peace of mind you need. We obviously booked to be here between the 2nd and the 4th of Sep... Usually during this time, spring is breaking out... The grass on the mountainous areas was a bit dry, but oh My Word , how beautiful it was!

It's such a beautiful place with super friendly always ready to help staff. The food is so amazing and reasonably priced. And beautiful buck all over the grounds, so wonderful. VERY HAPPY. We will be going back.

The golf club house has a great restaurant. The food is good and the staff always friendly and attentive. The view is beautiful and it is peaceful to just sit and have a cappuccino (which is really good!).

We had breakfast here and sat outside, which was peaceful and quiet. The waiter was very friendly, and we didn’t have to wait long for our food. The food was okay, but the presentation could be improved—my omelet didn’t look very appetizing. Remember, people eat with their eyes too.

After checking the reviews and looking for the best oxtail in town, it was down to 2 places. While I loved my oxtail this place takes second best in town. We did however enjoy the sample platter, the drinks and our waitress was friendly and helpful. Definitely try it out as they have many portions on their menu.

Whenever we passed by this place is was packed-no matter what time! They have outdoor seating as well, next to a little playground for kids which is why I think most families like to visit this cafe. We came once for breakfast and enjoyed it a lot, although their coffee wasn’t great, kinda bitter, which is why we didn’t come for breakfast again, but for lunch the second time. The burgers we tried were okay. They offer a lot of variety and portions seemed very big. Good value for money

We visited Clarens again this weekend and was keen to try a new spot. Super disappointed! Got a hair in my food. After complaining the manager did nothing, couldn’t even apologise, the same for the waiter. Disgusted in the food and service. What does the kitchen look like if the food looks like this? There’s so many other nice restaurants around the block, with quality food and professionalism.

I've stayed at Mt Horeb twice now while on business in the Free State & had an excellent time both stays. The guest house is impeccable & Sonia's kind hospitality is a highlight. Very safe house & perfect location to town while still enjoying the amazing view of Mt Horeb. Would definitely recommend!

I was there with my daughter for a midweek break away. It’s such a beautiful guest house! So much attention given to detail. The breakfast is delicious! There is such a warmth and peace to this place. 100% recommend this is THE place to stay in Clarens. The owners couple are so lovely and a joy to talk to.

Loved staying at Mt Horeb. It's definitely been a home away from home. Jessica and Zorro always make sure to welcome me and assist with anything I need. The owners are lovely people as well. They even offered peaches from their trees lol, and the staff is always so friendly and welcoming. I love it here

This was an absolutely amazing experience for our family, the kids and adults alike were enthralled! We did the three-hour adventure and were blown away. Elsabie and Gideon are so knowledgeable and have created such a fun and interesting tour. Highly recommended!!!

It was a great tour, led by Gideon and Elsabé. The talk was eye opening, informative but in the same time great fun! Even the kids were captivated by the experience. It is a true national treasure that any family should experience.

Loved this experience so much. We were unfortunately too late in the day to book for the longer expedition, but the talk was so interesting, and Elsabie was so fun to listen to. The interactive activities were great and they have such a lovely set up! Next time I'm in Clarens, I'll definitely book for the longer expedition!

Great hosts, very good tour. Our kid tends to get bored after a short while, but found this tour exciting and didn't ask to leave early which is a good sign. Seeing the dino footprints in its raw form and getting a good overview of the stone / rock was super fun.

Gideon explained everything in such great detail and I was fascinated with the Dino hunting , such a great experience I will now look at mountains and stones differently.

This is our second time visiting Gostos, and we’ve enjoyed it thoroughly both times! We’ve tried their chicken, espetada, and seafood — all delicious and full of flavour. The service was great, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The live music from the violinist was absolutely amazing and added such a special touch to the evening. Definitely a place we’d recommend and look forward to visiting again!

Cozy restaurant with a lovely view of the mountain. Indoor and outdoor seating area. They had live music as it was over the weekend, and it wasn't overpowering and added a lekker vibe 🎸 Good selection of pizzas and pastas 🍕 We did a large, half-n-half pizza and it was flavourful and fresh, with a good thin base. Unfortunately we received the wrong pasta order, but it was delicious nonetheless so we didn't mind 🍝

The pizza is excellent and there's a big variety. The seating space inside the restaurant is very cramped. The tables seating 4 people are too small to fit 4 plates as well as the extra sauces and your glasses. The tables are very close to each other, and it's very frustrating if the people at the table next to you end up being loud.

We were in Clarens for 4 days in total and ate here for 2 out of the 4, that in itself should tell you how amazing the food is!!! Service was average, atmosphere inside was not great, very loud and stuffy but eating outside was a much better experience and as stated above, the Amazing pizza made up for any shortfalls. A definite 10/10 for their pizza ❤️

Definitely the best place to get pizza in Clarens. The pizza was unique and tasty. They have an expansive menu which will take you a while to decide what. With regards to the atmopshere: On a cold night a fire heated restaurant and live music playing, they definitely have a wining recipe to keep people coming back, alot of thought went into the feel of the place. The service was also up to par, with regular check ins from our waiter. Overall this is a great date night idea in Clarens

The pizzas were nice, the service was good and the atmosphere was amazing, we had the pleasure of having live music there.

This is an excellent restaurant with a good ambience and great food. We ventured here on a Thursday night and were so impressed we came back on Friday too. The menu is simple, but has enough variety. We had chicken liver (spicy!) and a burger. I was pleasantly surprised that they also make excellent salad too (not something you can usually find in a small South African town). Try a brocolli one if you're there. On a Friday night they had live music and we had a nice sing along with the locals. The staff is friendly and efficient, a particular shout out to a manager behind the bar for a warm welcome. The decor is a bit dated but we're glad we looked past it, it's well worth a visit. If we're ever back in Clarens, we'll go again.

Extremely Disappointed – What Happened to This Place? We celebrated our engagement at Mosaic in Clarens two years ago and had a lovely experience. Naturally, we thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary again. Sadly, our experience this time was absolutely pathetic. Firstly, we waited 30 minutes just to be served, and then another 2 hours for our food to arrive — which turned out to be below average at best. Our waitress was inattentive, spent more time chatting and taking breaks with colleagues than checking on us, and we had to constantly call her over for assistance. We ordered a second round of drinks which never arrived, yet they somehow appeared on the bill. When I queried it, she didn't even apologize. On the second attempt, she brought a new bill — this time with another incorrect drink added! Only on the third try did we finally receive an accurate bill. By that point, my patience was completely gone. The only saving grace of the evening was the live artist performing — his set truly carried the night. If it weren’t for him, it would have been a total disaster. Mosaic has clearly gone downhill — at least from our experience. It’s disappointing to see a place that once held such a special memory for us fall apart like this.

We had a delightful lunch here during our stay in Clarens. The restaurant is tastefully furnished and decorated. The menu features a good selection of creative dishes that cater for all tastes. The food was tastefully presented. Both our dishes were created with care and love for food by the chef. Our waiter Meshachtook took excellent care of us. I can highly recommend this restaurant.

We were excited to try this place, the atmosphere looked really nice. The problem is the chicken livers my partner ordered were undercooked though. He ordered the chicken livers as a starter he was fine at first, but later on Saturday evening my partner became very sick 1pm in the morning and we're pretty sure it was from the chicken livers. A place with such a good reputation should take food safety more seriously and pay closer attention to cooking temperatures.

There really isn't a better name for this restaurant, it's always such a Treat! Chef Francois and his team outdo themselves every time we visit. Thank you so much for taking extra care to accommodate our dietary requirements and make our stomachs so happy! We can't wait to come back again!

The veggie toast was tasty, but less healthy than we expected. Cappucino is good, the fresh orange juice (included with breakfast) was amazing. What truly set this place apart was the toilet. Granted, we were the first of the day, but they were heavenly. Smelled like roses, perfectly clean, even had some hand/body lotion. Also, ambiance was great. Lots of sun in the morning. Amazing place to start your morning.

The Platform breakfast recommended by Joyce was Delicious!! She even went out of her way to add another waffle for us. The staff is so so friendly and welcoming. 10/10 - This is the second time I stayed at this accommodation (2 bedroom cottage and 1 bedroom apartment) and received great service from Gerrit on both occasions. He is very accommodating and welcoming. Having the treat restaurant just a stone throw away is so convenient for breakfast/ dinner. The neatness and attention to detail in the rooms were such a pleasure! The small gestures (apart from tea, coffee, sugar) like having fresh milk in the fridge and rusks on the counter top is delightful. I have absolutely no complaints. Bathrooms were clean, beddings were clean, I made one recommendation about including mattress toppers to give that extra softness when sleeping and Gerrit received that recommendation so graciously. Unit 1 to 6 are one bedroom apartments (3 on ground floor with patio, 3 on first floor with balcony) Unit 7 and 8 are also one bedroom apartments but slightly wider ground floor units Unit 9 and 10 are cottages behind the property. Thank you!

We wanted a 4-star stand-alone restaurant. It is just there on the main road, next to a Spa. The location is perfect. Treat Restaurant has a relaxing ambience. It has mainly mature patrons. It is good that it has no music. The restaurant is decorated with fresh flowers. It has a beautiful menu. Value-for-money proposition was there. When you are in Clarens, it is either this Treat Restaurant or IL Castello.

Great overnight stay in one of the self-catering double bedroom cottages. Finer touches are commendable, ie, electric blankets, firewood, bedding, kitchen, and appliances. Its location is perfect for discovering the town and its surroundings. Gerrit handled a mishap with the booking with professionalism and trust. Highly recommended for your special stay in Clarens.

Staying at Gypsy Life was such a wonderful experience - like escaping to a secret magical world. The caravans are charming, beautifully kept, and equipped with everything you need. Shane and Sandy are incredibly welcoming and clearly take great pride in caring for the place. It feels like stepping back in time, but with all the comfort of modern facilities. We had the loveliest stay and are already looking forward to coming back.

We had an incredible stay in Rosella, one of the Gypsy Wagons! The service was absolutely top-notch; Shane and Sandy really make sure you have everything you need and then some. The location is perfect, pretty much a stone's throw from anything in Clarens. The property itself is wonderful, with loads of interesting things to see and experiences to try, like the outdoor shower. Rosella was an absolute gem, super cozy and incredibly warm even though it was freezing outside. We honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience.

What a lovely place. We were met by Beck's on arrival and Shane a little later on. We stayed in the magenta room which was small but cozy with a heater and electric blanket. It's was by far the smallest room out of the 3 to choose from. There is off street secure parking was was great. The staff that work there are so friendly and helpful.

Gypsy Life is a must if you want to experience the tranquility of Clarens. The unit we stayed in is superbly equipped with extra attention to detail, and more. Shane is really one of the finest hosts I have seen in a long time, along with Sandy. Highly recommended

I love this bungalow. The owner is responsive. Rooms are good. They provided electric blankets. One of the rooms doesn't have a heater. Open parking place. The upper bathroom door handle was broken so I needed to struggle, I also needed to struggle to have both hot and cold water at a time in the shower ( either extreme hot or extream cold). Rechargeable lights provided and bulbs are attached. TV and WiFi are working. Kitchen equipments are much enough.

Update: After my first review, I decided to give them another chance and booked a night again in January 2022. Unfortunately most of the issues I've raised previously are still not resolved and they are still quite expensive compared to other options in Clarens. To make things worse, when we arrived at the agreed time, the unit was not ready, still being cleaned and we had to wait outside in the sun with our family and their small baby until the cleaning was concluded. Original review: ...could be a definite 4 star rating if some basic issues are attended to. The Nellsbells cottage is a well situated and well equipped self catering destination in Clarens. It's a beautiful old home that offers ample space and has a cosy feel with it's 1970's styling and wooden upper floor. The garden has ample space and the idyllic large porch both downstairs and upstairs overlook the large garden with lovely mountain views in all directions. It’s a pity though that the property is not very well maintained – especially because such a beautiful home has such wonderful potential. During our stay we found several dirty cutlery and crockery, a foul smell coming from the kitchen upon our arrival and a dirty kitchen floor, presumably from previous tenants. The bathrooms and particularly the shower need urgent attention due to broken faucets, shower heads gaps in the wooden walls large enough to see through and doors that cannot close properly unless locked. The interior such as curtains, cupboards, furniture and carpets seem as if it has not been cleaned in years. Especially the curtains are very dusty, and the carpets are in dire need of a good cleaning. Even the bedding is either very old or has not been cleaned properly since the previous tenants departure as it did not smell fresh and had several stains on – it just did not feel welcoming to sleep in at all. To summarize, based on the location and cosiness of the property, I’d love to stay there again but not before it has been properly cleaned inside. Especially for a property that is pet friendly, one would expect proper maintenance and cleaning in-between tenant visits. It's not one of the cheapest options in Clarens and we really expected more.

Would not consider this again even as a last resort. There are much better accommodation in Clarens for similar prices. Basic features that one expect are not present. The doors to some rooms cannot close properly (the doors are too large for the frames), so this cannot really be considered as an option unless travelling with close companions. Dustbins also contained contents of previous guests. Received no information from owner regarding collection of keys etc. before our arrival despite communication from our side. Simply not up to standard.

Loved the the clean quiet country air. Cottage is extremely well equipped for eight people. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a weekend for peace and quiet from the city life.

Great guides for rafting in Clarence. Good quality equipment. All round inclusive trip. Only thing missing was a wet suite. Water in Clarence is very very cold. Take your own wet suite if you have one.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner, the steak was very affordable and great quality. Haven’t had such a tasty fillet in a while. Service was great and the warm atmosphere was enjoyable. Bring cash to tip the waiters as they only receive their full tip payout at the end of the month…

As we arrived in the morning for breakfast, we were the second couple in the restaurant. No other costumers. Approximately 4-5 waiters there at the same time , but after the other couple left and it was only us, it became even harder to grab the waiters attention 🙈 Nevertheless they were all friendly! Breakfast was okay…but, I’d definitely come back for their cappuccino! We’ve tried a lot in Clarens - here we finally had a super delicious and perfectly made cappuccino! Our favorite 😍

One of the more recent establishments in this gorgeous old town. Really great atmosphere, food and service all round. We came here for dinner after the beer festival for ribs and wings - wings were ever so slightly dry but they did amazing considering how pumping the place was. Will definitely make this my go-to for future Clarens trips.

We had dinner there on the drive from Durban, our phones were flat and so were we😩😩. Elias was such a great waiter, with a spring in his step. He offered to charge our phones and even suggested the meat platter that went down like a treat. Elias, thank you for the great service and may you never lose your spark ntate.

Quite disappointed by this. Really nicely designed space and my waitress Lerato was friendly and helpful but the food was a big letdown. I had a pizza which had a very standard premade base and was not well cooked. The crust was burnt but the middle was soggy and the cheese was hardly melted.

I was honestly excited for a plate of good food yesterday being on the road all day, Starter was hallumi, it was good, sauce with it was underwelming at best. I ordered a 300g rump with mushroom sauce as they didnt have any decent dry aged steaks in stock. The steak was decently coocked but the basting tasted burnt and left a bitter burnt tase in your mouth. Mushroom sause came out of a dennys can or a pre made packet (it sucked) My wife had the chicken schnitzel, the most tasteless piece of chicken I had ever taken a bite of. Honestly just a major letdown. The staff were friendly and the service was fast, if it wasnt for the friendly staff I probably would have left my plate of food uneaten and just left the restaurant.

Clarens is an interesting town well worth visiting. Can become very busy during the school holidays. The 'parking attendants' can be a nuisance but they are also just trying to make a living. Bring your own. firewood. Exorbitant prices! The Ash River outfall is worth a visit.

Lots of mountains on the way to Clarens, and the Titantic rock is impressive. Pretty place, not the biggest, but a wonderful place to go go for a getaway. You will need a good stockpile of cash for it though, it's quite a touristy place, so prices are amped. Otherwise yes, give it a visit! It can snow here sometimes in winter which is a treat!!

Very interesting place to visit, more an artist location, although there are other shops to visit as well, and restaurants. Lots of antiques to look at and old memrobelia.

This square has huge potential for live bands, night markets and fun stuff. But it seems that all the money paid for rates and taxes by every person in Clarens goes nowhere…. The roads are not kept near and clean, the park is not kept beautiful and upgraded. This place could be a huge tourist attraction if the government put some funds into upgrades, lighting, a stage , plug points for markets and made the walkways beautiful. Clarens is beautiful and has huge potential ❤️

Clarens Town Square is absolutely magical! Despite being in a small town, it feels full of life with its wide variety of quaint little shops — from unique souvenirs to locally made jams, chilli sauces, and other delicious treats. It has the energy of a mini metropolis wrapped in a cozy, artistic setting. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxing, with live music often playing near the breweries and pubs, adding to the holiday vibe. Even in winter, the warmth of the people and the vibrant surroundings make it feel like summer. Whether you're shopping, strolling, or just soaking in the atmosphere, Clarens Town Square is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy some small-town magic.

Beautiful views with rare antique stores around where you can get from little to big antique pieces. There are restaurants around the air is fresh and clean. You can even get a horse ride.

Nestled at the back of Clarens square inbetween mountains, this small dam offers another picturesque experience to the area. Fly & bass fishing is on offer but if your not fishing, sit on the many manicured seating around the dam and just take a breath and enjoy nature

Lovely views of the dam from the top. We took along our pizza, a blanket and just chilled. Unfortunately, if you’re looking for a sunset from this spot, it’s not great as the sun is over the mountain pass.

The dam was the best feature. Some beautiful walks in the forest parts. Wait for the rains so you can see the Waterfall too. Signage wasn't too good but you can't really get lost. Maps are R40 so we went where the wind took us.

This reservation has nice hiking trails and a lovely dam that is situated in the reserve. I would recommend this reservation for nature lovers. However, access to the reserve is not monitored or controlled, as such anyone can enter. I suggest hiking in groups,if alone or in a pair you could literally be the only people in the reserve at a given time and i wouldn't wonder the hiking the trails without company as you would be isolated.

What a beautiful setting for a walk. There is so much to see in the area around the dam. A few minutes walk past the dam and you are high enough to have a spectacular view of Clarens.

Beautiful dam. Came across on my walk of the surrounding trails. Loved seeing all the kids having so much fun swimming in the dam. Very clean area. Great place to take your dogs

Team Neked, great place to make a turn get all what you need in one go. Great service and very friendly. Definitely make a turn after a day for some great gooodies!!!!!

I've tried reaching out to Neked multiple times through email but have never received any response. It's really frustrating to be ignored as a customer. Yet, somehow, I keep getting promotional emails from them. If you're going to send marketing messages, the least you can do is respond when people try to contact you. Disappointing experience. It’s disappointing that rather than acknowledging a breakdown in communication or taking responsibility, your message shifts blame and adopts an entitled tone. Respect is a two-way street, and that includes being responsive to customers trying to opt out in good faith—before things escalate. A soul warming, enchanting experience for all the senses. From the moment we stepped in, we were whisped away into a world of decadence, comfort, good vibes and incredible vegan cuisine. From pastas to burgers and malva pudding with vegan custard & coconut cream - the menu is really every veganite's dream come true! And honestly - it is so good even non-vegans would love this! Our gracious chef (& restaurant owner) Vanessa whipped up the most delectable dishes with the help of the lovely su chef Joy and they both made us feel so at home. What an amazing concept. Definitely worth supporting this amazing establishment that has a whole lot of heart!

My husband and I randomly found this spot in Clarens, and promptly decided to eat there for every single meal. Excellent food that you can tell a lot of thought and creativity went into, really nice outdoor patio in the heart of Clarens, and of course everything was delicious. Even if you aren’t vegan, don’t be deterred. The food was hearty, tasty, filling, and beer ice cold 😊 We will be back someday!

We are from California, the mecca of cannabis production and consumption for the entire world and in our opinion, this is a very nice cannabis store with some decent quality goods. The guys in there are friendly, cool and knowledgable. The prices are standard for most countries that have recreational/medical cannabis. Expect a fair bill for fair products 🌱 Talk to them and the other locals about Bitcoin ⚡️🔐

The place is perfectly situated close to town and a nice hiking spot. It's affordable, warm and cozy. Mariaan is the definitely the friendliest hostes I've had in Clarens. Will surely go back!

The lady and man working at this store are rude and unhelpful. I got stared at and when I greeted the lady she didn't greet back and walked on. Such strange behaviour. My husband and I walked out of this store so quickly. I did'nt expect this from a store selling overpriced cheaply made stuff. This store just gave us bad vibes from the moment we entered.

My son was very excited about a toy bat with a ball attached to it with an elastic. We bought it from your store and 3 hours later, while my son played with it, the elastic gave up and the ball fell off. The product was so inferior. We took it back the next morning and the man there was absolutely rude. He insisted that if we didn't have a receipt we couldn't get a refund. I told him that we didn't expect to have to return our purchase the next day but he didn't want to listen and was quite aggressive. The lady was of no help at all and was just an unpleasan. We just walked out because I didn't need to expose my children to that pathetic, unethical and rude behavior. Would never walk into your shop again.

We had the worst experience ever at the Ugly Duckling! The lady working behind the till was extremely rude and unhelpful. The security guard basically stared me out of my clothes (and kept on doing so after I had asked him to stop) and when I had asked her nicely to tell him to stop looking at me she just surged her shoulders and rolled her eyes at me. If I could I would give this place a 0/10 !

Lovely mix of curios and random goodies. Adds nicely to the artistic scene of Clarens. Enjoyed browsing and picked up a few novelty items.

I can spend hours in this shop. They have the best dream catchers, wall decor, chimes, bags, everything that has a great vibe.. my sons favorite spot

Your Facebook page says you open at 8.30. We walked into the shop at 8.50am to be barked at by a very rude woman that the shop is only open at 9. She was aggressive and frankly rude. I had my eye on a particular item as a gift for my best friend but decided there and then not to return due to such a hostile attitude

We stayed at the Noord Brabant House which is a stand alone house in Sanparks. It is a very old house and the amenities are extremely basic. The house need to be updated as there is not enough seating for a family of 6, but a total of six beds. It is a very tranquil place and the view is unbelievable! The baboons play in the tree at the back of the house so beware and close everything. We woke up one morning with the Zebra's grazing a few metres from the house.

It's a beautiful place! A must-see. Buy a permit so you can take the loops. There are two of them, and the scenery and lookout points are worth way more than the R70 per person. The roads are in good condition. The park is well-maintained. The picnic site has toilets, but we didn't stop there, so I can't comment on their condition. We saw zebras, eland, wildebeest and baboons. The main road is fairly busy because it's a through-road. That makes it tricky to stop and enjoy the views. That's why I strongly recommend buying the permits to drive on the loops. And don't cheat and drive there without paying. Do the right thing. We found a waterfall with a gorgeous pool. Now I have to go back in summer so I can swim in it.

Very lovely accommodation, friendly staff. This is for outdoor lovers. I enjoyed the Brandwag hiking trail. Staff is very helpful.

The Golden Gate Highlands Park and Dino World were an amazing experience — fun, educational, and full of beautiful scenery. Dino World offers fascinating insights into the past of the dinosaurs. I’ll definitely be going back to explore more and do some hiking!

Phenomenal mountain range. Arguably better than the Drakensberg. Lush vegetation, animals and awesome hikes. The views and drive through is breathtaking. Definitely needs to be visited at least once. I’ve been going every year. Incredible every time

A beautiful area surrounded by mountains. A great camping place. We visited the dinosaur museum which is literally across the road. And had some great coffee at Phoka cafe. The whole place is filled with so much culture and history. Such a great place to vacation with the whole family

Cant believe i waited so many years to go see the golden gate highlands national park. What I really enjoyed were the 2 loops that can be driven up into the mountain on nicely tarred road. Gets you high enough to experience the upper area and majestic land scape without having to do a hard hike.

Tina is very nice! We really enjoyed spending time with her! In addition, her gallery is very unique, even in the landscape of Clarens.
