Historic Sites
The Union Buildings, designed by Sir Herbert Baker and completed in 1913, serve as the official seat of the South African government and house the President's offices. Situated atop Meintjieskop near historic landmarks like Church Square and the Voortrekker Monument, these imposing structures are surrounded by expansive gardens. Symbolizing the Union of South Africa, they have been witness to pivotal moments in the country's history, including Nelson Mandela's inauguration in 1994.
The Union Buildings Gardens are a wonderful place to relax and unwind. With beautifully maintained lawns, shaded walkways, and an atmosphere of peace, it’s perfect for a quiet afternoon. One of the highlights is watching the sunset—the view from the gardens is absolutely stunning, with the cityscape bathed in golden light and the sky painted in soft hues. Whether you're taking a leisurely stroll, enjoying a picnic, or simply sitting on a bench soaking in the scenery, the Union Buildings Gardens offer a memorable and refreshing experience.

🏛️ Iconic seat of the South African government, overlooking Pretoria 🌄 Set within beautifully landscaped gardens with panoramic city views 🗿 Features the Nelson Mandela statue — 9 metres tall with arms raised in triumph 💣 Two Long Tom guns and a war memorial mark the site’s military heritage 🧺 Ideal for walks and picnics in the peaceful terraced gardens 🚗 Ample parking, clean toilets, and visible security on site ☕ No visible café or shop, but plenty of open green space for visitors Full Review The Union Buildings are one of South Africa’s most recognisable landmarks — a magnificent architectural complex set high on a hillside overlooking Pretoria. Designed by Sir Herbert Baker and completed in 1913, the twin-winged sandstone buildings form a powerful symbol of national unity and democracy. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with lush lawns, tiered gardens, and wide terraces offering sweeping vistas across Pretoria. It’s an ideal spot to stroll, relax, or simply take in the grandeur of the setting. Two historic Long Tom guns frame a war memorial positioned between them, paying tribute to those who served in earlier conflicts. Across the gardens, the commanding Nelson Mandela statue — standing 9 metres tall with outstretched arms — overlooks the capital, symbolising peace and reconciliation. Security is reassuringly visible, and there’s ample parking as well as clean public toilets. While I didn’t spot any cafés or shops, many visitors were enjoying picnics on the lawns beneath the buildings, making good use of the open space and sunshine. It’s hard to think of a more impressive or immaculately kept location in Pretoria — a place that combines architectural splendour, historical weight, and peaceful surroundings in perfect balance. Absolutely worth a visit.

Love that it's well maintained and looks like if visitors came we wont be ashamed.
Mpho M — Google review
The Union Building is impressively clean and well-maintained. Security is very noticeable, with police officers always present, which makes visitors feel safe. The garden is beautifully kept, vibrant, and colorful, providing a great backdrop for photos. I loved seeing the statue of Mandela and interesting historical items like the cannon around the grounds. It’s a popular spot for families coming to take photos and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit!

The Union Buildings in Pretoria are South Africa’s most iconic landmark, set high on Hill with beautiful terraced gardens and panoramic views of the city. they’re home to the President’s offices. Visitors can stroll through the gardens, view memorials, and admire the impressive statue of Nelson Mandela at the forefront.

In the heart of Pretoria. The is one of the country's historic monuments that still serve a unique purpose in country's politics. Free entrance grants you the opportunity to experience the nostalgic peice of South Africa's diverse heritage. Cool place to visit for a picnic, or social media pics. 😉

Gardens
Pretoria National Botanical Gardens is a haven for South African plant species and trees, featuring succulents, herbs, a wetland area, and an arboretum. The garden's indigenous section showcases savannah, forest, and fynbos biomes along with man-made habitats supporting specific plant species native to South Africa.
Very Very clean and safe with plenty Dassies. The hiking trail is stunning with waterfall and even some buck. Enterance fee is reasonable. Also a restaurant, kiddies play area and braai area.
Lourens D — Google review
The place is very well maintained, and it's a very relaxing atmosphere. Just nice to walk around and enjoy nature and have a cup of coffee at the coffee shop there, nestled between the trees. Very, very relaxing. And very comfortable. The toilets are also very well maintained, and there are extra toilets available in the form of portable ones.
Sulaimaan U — Google review
A peaceful, beautiful escape right in Pretoria. The Pretoria National Botanical Gardens is honestly one of the most grounding places I’ve visited in a long time. It’s tranquil, spacious, and incredibly well-kept — the kind of place where you can actually take your shoes off and walk barefoot on the grass without worrying about glass or anything unsafe. There are so many little corners to explore, whether you want a quiet spot under the trees, open lawns for a family picnic, or one of the shaded areas to simply unwind. My kids loved it; the trails kept them entertained, and the waterfall has such a calming presence that you can hear it long before you see it. We spotted a variety of birds, dassies, and other small wildlife as we walked, which was such a lovely surprise. The gardens feel safe and welcoming, and it’s clear that a lot of care goes into maintaining the grounds. There’s also a restaurant, plenty of clean restrooms, and drinking water available throughout the gardens — small things, but they make a big difference when you’re spending a few hours outdoors. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and the perfect place to reconnect with nature. Whether you’re going with family, on your own, or just need a mental reset, this is one of Pretoria’s gems. Highly recommended.
Liza-Mari C — Google review
It is extremely well kept and boundlessly beautiful this time of year. There are nice spaces to picnic or relax and play areas for the kids as well as walking routes of varying distances with interests plants and Dassies with serene rest areas. There are beautiful sculptures done by Anton Smit spotted throughout and a awesome waterfall.
Stuart G — Google review
Super lovely space for picnicking, short hikes or just family fun time, or dates. Had so many wonderful times there, and everything is gorgeous and very well maintained. The gardens are stunning and the views at the top of the short hike paths are beautiful. Loved the waterfall noices near that one glass vield were we had a picknick. Entry fee is not that bad, think it was R70 for adults and like R40-R45 for students with valid student cards, i just used my digital card. Highly recommend a short walk around the area and checking out their cool workout area, was lots of fun messing around there.

Such a stunning celebration of our natural heritage! Thoughtfully laid out with lots of notice boards and information. Beautiful sculptures to admire, and lots of little shady spots for a picnic. Happy to pay the entrance fee, as it is clearly going towards maintaining everything.

It has been some time since I last visited the Pretoria Botanical Gardens. I decided to try out the Parkrun at this venue. Parking is available, but on the side of the road as the venue parking fills up quickly. The bathrooms were clean and no long ques. There has been a noticeable focus on adding beautiful sculptures and various art all along the Gardens adding to its already well manicured and cared for flora and forna. The parkrun held at the Pretoria Botanical Gardens is well organised and the route was challenging enough for beginners to enjoy and still feel the burn afterwards.

The Voortrekker Monument stands as a grand tribute to the Afrikaans settlers who arrived in South Africa during the 1830s. This iconic heritage site features a unique architectural design, allowing sunlight to illuminate patriotic inscriptions on the cenotaph once a year. The museum showcases an impressive collection of Voortrekker memorabilia, while the Heritage Centre offers interactive exhibitions that objectively portray the contributions of the Afrikaner people to South Africa.
What a beautiful and wonderful place to visit. Especially with the interactive center where children can experience some of the things of the Voortrekkers. The dress code of the people working there was lovely Plenty of caffe's and pitststops whilst walking. The monument was mesmerizing and it really is worth it going all the way up to have a birds eye view of Pretoria.

What an amazing experience as an adult. Brought back lots of memories of when I visited in primary school. There's obviously lots of changes, sad though. But still glad I could come and experience this as a adult. Very neat, and friendly and helpful staff awaits you.
Amanda V — Google review
Driving up, the building sits on its hill like it was made for long horizons. Inside is denser than you expect, with careful displays and quiet side rooms that make you take your time. We climbed to the upper levels, leaned on the rail, and let the city and ridges spread out beneath us. Outside, the grounds are tidy and good for a slow stroll. It is a visit that lands without rushing you along.
Keegan R — Google review
Have over the years caught glimpses of the huge edifice of the Voortrekker Monument that is conspicuously visible from almost all directions around the hill on which the granite structure and its huge complex is built. Undertook an impulsive visit to the Schanskop Fort located in the same precinct, and ventured into the Transvaal Voortrekker Museum, adjacent the Complex Reception / Ticket office. Was impressed by the management and maintenance of the cultural complex, and especially the efforts undertaken to preserve and secure the historical artifacts.

Voortrekker Monument takes you back in time. It’s neat, clean and well maintained. Hiking up to the view point and museum was easy.
Fazila K — Google review
It was a beautiful and mesmerising experience. Will definitely go for more of these. The venue definitely does not need high heels. Where flats or wedges/kitten heels or just pretty flats if dressing up for the theme (in this case, it was Bridgerton themed and we were encouraged to dress up in the Bridgerton style). The architecture especially inside is beautiful, the ambience is mesmerising as is the stringed orchestra. The commentary is lovely and humourous and the whole experience is wonderful. Leaves one feeling uplifted, inspired and clears mental stress. Extra's I would add to make the experience more special: An opportunity for couples to dance, a themed photobooth and champagne/welcome drinks offered right at the entrance of the venue (at a price) would have been nice extra's. Or ordering from the restaurant and having people come and deliver to you would be nice since we climbed many, many stairs and had things like bags, etc to carry. But overall, beautiful experience.

Went for the Saturday Parkrun, loved the vibe and route, the music and energetic spirit. The gardens are beautiful, cute coffee shops and restaurant based on a school classroom theme, traditional menu based on SA"s favorites like "braaibroodjies" and "melktert" at very reasonable prices. Well worth a visit.

Freedom Park Heritage Site & Museum, located in Pretoria, South Africa, is a 129-acre cultural heritage site and museum dedicated to the struggle for freedom and human rights. Opened in 2013, it stands as a memorial to South African freedom fighters and chronicles the nation's history from ancient times to the post-apartheid era. The park features a hilltop memorial, an interactive museum with national archives, and a garden of remembrance.
THE MUSEUM IS HEAVEN ON EARTH Every Art piece is exquisite with a deeper cultural and historical meaning especially to the life of a Black child. Visiting this site healed a wounded part of me that I did not know existed. I felt alive, represented and seen by just entering the site. I would recommend this site and would definitely visit again. 100/10 experience 🔥🔥🔥🔥👌

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa, located in Pretoria, is a 210-acre zoo and research hub that offers a diverse range of attractions. Visitors can explore the reptile park, inland aquarium, and extensive collection of exotic trees. The zoo is home to over 3,100 animals representing more than 500 species across various categories. It's dedicated to conservation efforts with spacious enclosures that mimic natural habitats.
I haven't been to the Pretoria zoo in 13 years and I am definitely going more often after this visit. The animals are well looked after. The bathrooms are clean. There are multiple picnic spots, but also a zoo shop (opens at 9h00) and Duku restaurant. They have recently renovated and reopened the seal exhibition. The only animals that we could not see were the elephants, but they have 2 types of hippos, 2 types of buffaloes, leopard, Lions, tiger, many species of interesting birds, camels, giraffe, rhinos, mountain sheep, goats, alpacas, monkeys, gorillas, aquarium, snakes, lizards, antelope etc. The golf carts are convenient, but there are plenty of trees and beautiful walkways. And you will miss out on the more niche corners of the zoo like the Pygmy hippo! We were there on a Saturday. It started getting busy from 11h00 so I would suggest getting there when they open. It takes 4 hours at least to get through the whole zoo and we had a golf cart. You can easily spend a full day here. The gardens are well maintained and there are beautiful trees. The staff are very friendly and it is has safe parking. They had very interesting displays at the entrance where passionate educators talked about conservation, climate change and the animals. It is very interesting to find out all the work they do to preserve the animals in South Africa. They have a green screen where they take photos that you can buy after.
Juandri K — Google review
It is always wonderful to walk around the zoo. There are plenty of animals to see, there are however some enclosures that does not have any animals in as they are under construction. All animals are well looked after. There is information boards on some of the enclosures, I really wished there was more information boards regarding the animal that is kept in the enclosure. There are enough toilets which are neat and clean. There are big open grass areas where you can have a picnic. There are also benches all over the zoo where you can sit and look at the animals. I did however wait for the shark feeding time and talk, but no one showed up and I left after 15min. Was a bit disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing how the sharks gets feeded. The shops only have basic items like cooldrink, water, ice cream and small packet of chips. The restaurant has a view items on the menu that you can choose from. The parking R30 is very safe as no hawkers are allowed inside the gate. They are transitioning into a cashless environment. Overall I had a great time and it was wonderful to see these amazing creatures up close.
Carina A — Google review
It was a good experience. R100 adults & R70 kids. When we attended, there was an ongoing event and a big crowd. There was ample parking and plenty of security looking after the cars. The Zoo staff were friendly and there were no queues, we went on a Sunday. We had a good day overall. The Zoo is huge, there are golf carts for use to drive around should you prefer. I think because of the event, the cleanliness was an issue. We saw a few animals. There is also an aquarium and farm animals.

"I recently visited the Pretoria Zoo and had an amazing time! The zoo is home to a wide variety of animals, including majestic lions, monkeys, and birds. We also enjoyed the snack bars and fish exhibits. The layout is well-designed, making it easy to navigate and see all the exhibits. My niece and nephew had a blast and are already asking when they can come back!"

A Forgotten Gem! What a wonderful experience, truly a trip down memory lane! The place is spotless, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and all the animals are clearly well cared for and in great condition. It’s rare to find somewhere that feels both nostalgic and so well maintained. A hidden treasure worth re-rediscovering! Ps take a picnic basket and cooler box with!
Stefan K — Google review
Although I’m typically not a fan of zoos, the Pretoria zoo was a day well spent. It is clear that the wellbeing of the animals is being prioritized as they all appear healthy and are active and animated. Most have large enclosures that replicate their natural environment (and most appear to have company or “friends” with very few lone animals). Considering the circumstances, it’s understandable that the zoo does not have many refreshment options, and the infrastructure is a little worn (some peeling paint, and apparent age of some of the structures). The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the bathrooms are clean, and the zoo is well kept. The natural landscape of the zoo is stunning and the river flowing through the zoo is a sight to behold. There’s a lovely path behind the lion enclosures that take you to lookout points that show the Pretoria skyline and a good view of the Lion and Tiger enclosures. We went in spring so we were lucky enough to see quite a few baby animals. I hope they receive the support needed to restore the zoo! They are clearly doing the best they can with the unfortunate circumstances they’ve been dealt.

I recently visited the National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria and was thoroughly impressed! The zoo is home to a stunning array of animals, from majestic lions and giraffes to adorable penguins and playful monkeys. The gardens are beautifully maintained, with plenty of shade and picnic areas to relax. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the various shows and exhibits add an extra layer of fun to the visit. A must-visit attraction for animal lovers and families alike!
Zinhle M — Google review
My main concerns are that some animals’ living conditions seem rather poor and not well maintained to reflect their natural habitats. In addition, the open sewage and pollution flowing through the Apies River greatly detract from the zoo experience, especially for picnickers, as it produces an unpleasant odour, and some aquatic animals, such as ducks, could become affected by the waste. The glass panels, especially in the reptile section, had a few smudges that spoiled the experience of taking good photos. Another downside was that some of the main exhibit animals, like the elephants were unavailable, the aquarium closed quite early, and the cable car was not operational. Despite these setbacks, I still believe the zoo offers a fun and educational experience, providing an opportunity to learn about a wide variety of animal species. My highlights from the visit came from a few animals, some absolutely melted my heart, while others made me fear for my very life. I was especially curious about the Ground Hornbill and how it behaved in my presence. It carried what appeared to be dead chicks, which left me wondering whether they kill their young, show remorse, or perhaps do it as a way of getting treats. I couldn’t quite tell, and it was unfortunate that there wasn’t a stall selling any of their favourite goodies. The Grey Crowned Crane was another fascinating encounter. It was jumping about as though it was challenging me to a fight or boasting about its size, or maybe even trying to court me, I couldn’t be sure! Still, I thoroughly enjoyed watching its dancing rituals. The Palm Cockatoo truly melted my heart with the sounds it made, like a small child who knew nothing but love. The penguins were absolutely delightful, so lively and full of character that they could easily hold their own against the best choirs around. They’re definitely a must-see exhibit. The camel was so lovely; it came over and posed for a few photos, even letting me pet it and take some close-up shots. The lemurs were just as charming, so playful that I found myself playing peek-a-boo with them. The reptile section, however, wasn’t really my favourite. I tried to steel myself as I walked past each snake, until I came across a massive python, that nearly made me drop my phone! The African Wild Dogs also gave me quite a fright; their fencing didn’t seem as high as the lions’, and for a moment I genuinely felt they might leap out and hunt me down. I can’t complain, as the ticket price was half the usual cost. Even though some animals stayed in their sheds because of the extreme heat, I still look forward to returning with my children for another fun and slightly scary educational experience. Next time, I hope to visit the aquarium and take a ride on the golf cart as well.

Rietvlei Nature Reserve, located just a short drive from Pretoria's city center, offers a vast natural expanse where visitors can enjoy wild game viewing and fishing activities. The reserve spans 3800 hectares and is home to an array of wildlife including four of the Big Five game animals. Visitors can explore the reserve at their own pace by car or opt for guided hiking and horse trails. The park also features a restaurant serving delicious home-cooked meals.
Went today for the first time, and it was AMAZING! Saw so many animals including rhino! The reserve is small, but worth going most definately! Road are fine with a normal car. The only negative thing I can say is, if you stop to buy food at the coffee shop, be prepared to wait long. Two toasted cheese and onions took almost 40min even though they were not that busy!

A short 25 minute drive from Pretoria East you'll find a wonderful day outing in the Rietvlei Nature Reserve. At a total cost of R125 for one adult and a kid it is absolutely worth the fee. The staff are friendly, from the moment you enter the gate, to purchasing tickets and entering the Reserve. All were friendly and welcoming. We packed a picnic, our camera and embarked on a self-drive fueled by a bunch of excitement to be out in Nature in search of wildlife. The roads are easily drive able even in a small hatch back vehicle. We stopped at three different bird hides/ lookout points and each were well maintained. We enjoyed a slow meander and eventually ended up at the coffee shop. There is a section that is home to a few Donkeys which the kids love to feed ( bring a bag of carrots, you'll be a favourite) . We enjoyed a coffee and an ice-cream before heading back out to look at more game and birds. We saw a meerkat, lots of Buffalo , zebras, ostriches, and a number of birds. Not much bird variety, but it was midday. After enjoying a good 4.5 hours of driving around we headed back home. There is are restrooms at Reception, by the coffee shop and at the Finfoot hide. All of which were decently maintained and had loo paper. We will most certainly become more regular visitors.

What a pleasant surprise!!! Right on our doorstep and yet I have not frequented the reserve before. It was so easy to get into the reserve, staff were helpful and friendly and it was a day that was really relaxing to view the game and try to spot those elusive cheetahs. Visit the picknic spot, it is so tranquil but get there early if you want a good spot. The old farm house now operating as a restautant needs some tlc. I see how specific little trinkets can produce a steady flow of cash for the reserve from those who want a souvenir.

Close to town but it feels like a small bush day. We rolled the windows down, followed gravel tracks along the water, and sat quietly when the plains opened up. A white rhino sighting turned the whole car into kids for five minutes. Picnic spots are simple and the light is lovely toward evening. You leave dust-coated and happy.
Keegan R — Google review
It was a pleasant experience. Innitially we only saw a few animals, like ostridge, a fox, and I think its a Hartebees, but then we found an abundance of animals, especially around the Jakkalsdraai road, that is on your right hand side when you enter the main gate. The Zebras were the best because they are playfull. Also Wildebeest. The scenery is beautiful. It felt as if we were in the bosveld. It was drizzling, but we were still able to go out with raincoats, whereever we were allowed to exit the vehicle. The Lookout stations were topnotch, it was sponsored by "friends of Rietvlei".Unfortunately we couldn't see hippos. . We ordered an omelette at the restaurant/house with memorabillia dated back to the 1900's. I think it's best if you pre- book with the wildlife rangers, they know all the hotspots. I will surely go back again, cause you can braai at the picnic site
Marius G — Google review
We had a wonderful time here. Saw quite a few different animals. Roads are also in good condition for all types of vehicles which is a big plus! We stopped at the coffee shop which served some really great food. Next time we will make use of the lovely braai facilities.

Well maintained and mapped roads. Variety of animals including big game like bufullo, rhinos, hippos. Beautifully kept hides to watch the game. Restaurant on site. Enjoyed the experience.

We were lucky to see so many animals and birds right next to the tarred road. Beautiful reserve. Three hours there are not enough. Remember to take your binoculars and a picnic basket with

Groenkloof Nature Reserve, located near Pretoria CBD, was established by Paul Kruger in 1895 as South Africa's first nature sanctuary. The reserve is home to a variety of wildlife such as zebra, wildebeest, and giraffe amidst thicket and grasslands. It offers hiking and biking trails as well as guided safaris for visitors of all ages.
Had a brilliant outing with Suzuki Jimny on the 4x4 track. It was really tough, not for the faint hearted though and definitely not a beginner track unless you're with experienced off-roaders who know the ropes and will spot for you. The reserve is clean, beautifully maintained, great braai facilities with lots of shade so I definitely recommend it. Also looks like a popular hiking venue and we did see some game, zebra, giraffe and ostrich, sure there was a lot more we didn't see.

A Serene Escape This tranquil reserve is a true escape from the everyday. Nestled near Benoni, it offers beautifully maintained trails that wind through diverse ecosystems. Whether you're seeking a peaceful stroll or hoping to spot some local wildlife, this spot delivers. It's the perfect place to reconnect with nature and leave feeling refreshed. Highly recommended for a quiet break!

My girlfriends and I visited the nature reserve for horse riding, and we had such a wonderful time! Our guide, Slyvester, was an absolute gem — kind, patient, funny, and very knowledgeable. He answered all our questions about the horses with so much enthusiasm and made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. He even offered to take pictures for us, which we really appreciated. A memorable outing made even better by great service! You need to make a booking first though.

Nice nature reserve in Pretoria. Apparently the first proclaimed nature reserve in Africa. My son and I did the 10.5 km trail and it took us 3.5 hours (I’m so fit so this included rest stops of around 20 minutes) I would rate the trail as moderate - at the start is a bit climb and then you descend onto a contour path. At the 8km mark there’s another climb and from here on the path is rocky so it’s slower going. We saw zebra, ostriches and a sable antelope. Sunblock and good hat are essential as there’s little shade for most of the walk. Take your own refreshments and food as there’s no place to buy them in the reserve. The parking lot is small so go early. The picnic spots are well equipped with tables, braai stands and water taps.
Wayne S — Google review
This is a beautiful and pristine nature reserve. We didn’t see any animals this time, but we will be back again 💕 We planned to take the white line, but unfortunately the signs were not clear! There are picnic areas and stables in this area. The parking area is not as large as Google reviews say (maybe there weren't many people visiting today, at least that's not what I saw)

Tried the 4x4 trail today, lots of fun, normal 4x4 is fine, you don’t need a lift kit, although on certain section, it would probably encourage more confidence

I had an absolutely brilliant time on the group hike organized by Thulz Explore at the Groenkloof Nature Reserve. The entire event was perfectly arranged. The reserve itself is a truly beautiful and rejuvenating place to hike. It was the perfect opportunity to get out, move the body, and immerse myself in nature. What really set this experience apart was the social element afterward: coming back from the trails to a fantastic braai! It was the ideal way to relax, recharge, and connect with the group after a great morning of hiking. If you're looking for a professionally organized outdoor adventure that combines exercise, stunning scenery, and great relaxation, I highly recommend checking out Thulz Explore. Five stars!

We doing the 10km trail. Started at 1245 about 30 min per km. It gets rocky and hilly the last 2km which takes the longest. Do not litter, there are bins along the way. Saw plenty of bottle caps which I picked up and put in bin. We completed at 17:15

Melrose House Museum, a grand Victorian mansion built in 1886, offers visitors a chance to step back in time to the late 19th century. This historical gem played a significant role during the Second Boer War and was where the Treaty of Vereeniging, ending the war, was signed in 1902. The elegant three-story mansion boasts traditional decor and offers audio-guided tours for an immersive experience.
Though it was closed temporally, I was allowed to walk around the beautiful garden. There was a toilet for visitors.

An interesting house museum to visit with rich history on a Victorian home where the treaty for the end of the Anglo-Boer war was signed. The visit can take between 30 to 40 minutes. Some places in the house have QR codes that provide more information on the displays in the museum.
Gabriel K — Google review
Stepping inside feels like time travel. Patterned ceilings, heavy drapes, and quiet rooms where you notice tiny things like worn stair rails and old photos on side tables. We wandered slowly, reading the room cards and peeking into corners. The garden’s a calm breather afterward, with enough shade to sit and chat before heading back to the street.
Patrick L — Google review
The museum was closed when we arrived. The building itself looks quaint. I was told it was the place where the peace treaty between the English and the Boer was signed. More interesting looked the parc infront of it I have to admit. I feel like I wouldn’t have missed anything if I hadn’t seen this…

🏛️ Melrose House Museum in Pretoria is a captivating portal into South Africa’s Victorian past. From the moment you step inside, the elegance of 19th-century architecture and decor surrounds you—stained glass windows, antique furnishings, and historically rich rooms that once hosted the signing of the Treaty of Vereeniging in 1902. The museum’s preservation is impressive, offering visitors a thoughtful and immersive experience, whether through guided tours or quiet exploration. Nestled beside Burgers Park, it’s a serene and culturally significant gem that earns high praise for its authenticity and historical depth.

Loftus Versfeld Stadium, one of South Africa's oldest stadiums, has been a hub for major sporting events since 1903. Initially accommodating only 2,000 spectators, it underwent significant renovations and now boasts a seating capacity of 42,858. Home to the Blue Bulls rugby team, this iconic venue in Tshwane/Pretoria exudes an unwavering passion for sports.
Parking is a bit complex. Most cars parked on the roads close by. So this created road closures on some parts. Uber if possible. The game was well coordinated. Security checks at every entry point, and there was police presence as well. No issues from a safety perspective. It's a bit of inconsistency with the checks, but nothing major.
Babitseng M — Google review
Home ground for Vodacom Blue Bulls Rugby team. We watched Springboks vs Italy match. Really enjoy the vibe. It is a bit struggling to find the parking. Always go early to find good parking.
Gavin K — Google review
If you love Rugby and the Bulls, the Loftus will definitely be your favourite place like it is for me. If it's a big game, then it's going to be pretty full. Always keep your valuables safe especially with big games of concerts. The drinks and snacks are priced like stadium prices so if you don't want to pay R50 for a big pack of Simba Chips, then bring yours. Otherwise, Loftus is Lekker
Roxette M — Google review
The most well maintained and clean stadium. It is safe environment and entertainment venue for the whole family. Well done to the Management of this Stadium and to the Leaders of Mamelodi Sundowns for your hospitality and for entertaining and accommodating the kids on this day. Halaaalaaa!

Rugby days here feel like a tradition. We arrived early, found our block easily, and watched the crowd knit itself together as kick-off approached. Sightlines are strong and the noise sits right in your chest when a big tackle lands. Halftime is for catching breath and comparing notes with strangers who suddenly feel like friends. Walking out under the lights at the end, voices a little rough, is part of the charm.
Patrick L — Google review
We visited Loftus Versfeld for the Krone show. The venue is ideally situated for such events and I can really recommend it. According to the organisers there was approximately 30000 people at the event. The show lasted almost four hours and is really value for money. We travelled with an Uber to and from the show. On going back we could not get a large enough Uber for all of us and had to make use of two separate Ubers. The only negative point I have on the Loftus Versfeld stadiumwould be the public toilets. Towards the end of the evening the available facilities were not nearly enough and everything started getting very unhigenic. Toilet paper did not last long and the floors and toiletswere really very dirty.
Rudolph M — Google review
Wow, what an experience Place to be for events, I enjoyed the atmosphere and has save parking and more n more security Only issues they must make sure all gates are working at entrance to avoid overcrowding at entrance
Thabo M — Google review
Went there for a concert. Loved every moment of the concert. I just feel like the management of the amount of people entering and letting them (mostly) all through the same entrance was a bit poor. I did see them trying to make an effort and it did work, but it still took a while to get through the entrance to the lower pavilion seating. On the way out I feel like it was better managed. Not 100% sure who organised and managed the parking because that was horrible! We paid R200 for basement parking, which I am thankful for because I didn’t have to look for parking. The entering of the parking was poorly managed as well as the exiting. There weren’t any signs on where to enter and the tickets weren’t very clear as well. I think it should be illegal to have a parking garage that takes thousands of people and only have 2 exits. It took way too long to get out of the parking. My only concern was, what If someone had an emergency they would not be able to get out of there at all. Overall the evening was an amazing experience.

Ditsong Kruger Museum, located in Pretoria, is the former residence of Paul Kruger, the esteemed President of the South African Republic from 1883 to 1902. The museum offers a glimpse into 19th-century living through its well-preserved and fully furnished interior. Visitors can explore exhibits detailing Kruger's life and political career, including his exile by the British. The museum showcases personal belongings and period furniture that provide an immersive experience of this significant historical figure's life.
Very interesting and informative, a time traveling experience, a glimpse in a past where technology was very basic and people had to deal with a very different mentality. I love the personal items displayed, objects of everyday life. The guide was incredible, kind, professional, warm and welcoming.

A key piece of SA's history - worth a trip to Pretoria. You'll get some insight into the times and quirks of Kruger; also a great jumping off point to a tour of the modern realities of SA's capital city.
Troy B — Google review
Compact, well-kept house museum that lands the late-19th-century story without dragging on. Rooms are furnished with care, the route flows logically, and the little details (letters, everyday objects) make it feel human. We took our time in the yard afterward and chatted with a helpful staff member who filled in a few gaps. Easy pairing with Church Square and Melrose House for a neat heritage loop.
Shaun B — Google review
An amazing museum with an immaculately preserved house of Paul Kruger. Lots of rooms, not too many visitors, plentiful parking at the back. Staff is friendly and the entrance fee is very reasonable.
Victor W — Google review
We stepped off the street and straight into another century. The house smells faintly of polish and old wood, floors creak in the best way, and rooms are set as if someone just left for a meeting. A guide walked us through at an easy pace—study, bedroom, dining room—pointing out small details you’d miss on your own: worn armrests, family photos, a clock that still works when wound. It feels like a lived-in home first, a museum second. Out back we wandered the yard and took a minute by the verandah to let it all settle. You get everyday history here—the cups, the coats, the view down the garden—rather than just dates and names. We left with a clearer picture of the time and a few favourite corners we kept talking about on the drive home. Simple visit, nicely kept, and worth an unhurried hour.

Beautiful, rich experience. The museum is huge and well taken care off. I would suggest more lighting, tho. There were quite a few exhibitions that weren’t lit (we had to use our phone flashlights).
Kaylee K — Google review
The Ditsong National Museum of Natural History in Pretoria gave me the feeling of a melancholy crypt of bygone glory. Getting there was difficult. A shell game with parking spaces. According to the cashier, there's one somewhere in the middle of nowhere, but unfortunately, we couldn't find it. Inside, one experienced the grand funeral of museum culture: dark as limbo, dirty as a bus stop, and exhibitions that sometimes look as if they were cobbled together by a bored intern. Signage and explanations are lacking. The most bizarre highlight was the "before and after" show of a pigeon that had flown into a running airplane turbine. The pulverization experiment was a success. You can sense that there was once plenty of money here, passion, and pride. Today, one can write studies on decay in fast-forward. Three stars because it used to be beautiful and I like museums – but the rest is unfortunately just fossils from a better time.

Ditsong National Museum of History is a great and peaceful place to visit, not forgetting the educational part of it. The exhibits were well-curated and informative, with clear signage and engaging storytelling. The staff were friendly and helpful, making sure that visitors had a comfortable and enriching experience. I appreciated the variety of exhibits, from natural history to cultural heritage, which provided a comprehensive understanding of our rich history. The museum's facilities were clean and well-maintained, making for a pleasant visit. The atmosphere was calm and conducive to learning, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the exhibits. I highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in history and science. Whether you're a student, a history buff, or just curious about the world around you, Ditsong National Museum of History is a must-visit destination. The museum's ability to balance entertainment and education makes it an excellent choice for families and groups. Overall, my visit to Ditsong National Museum of History was an enriching experience that I will always treasure. What i love the moat about Ditsong museum  is that it is kids friendly, they get to see all the inhabitants  and their  history. Much better than I expected. The aircraft and armour are in excellent condition, and the exhibits strike a good balance between big hardware and human stories. Clear signposting means you can self-guide easily. We spent almost two hours and still skipped a section—there’s that much to see. Shady grounds and benches help if you’re going with older family members. Worth the trip if you like aviation or history.

Really nice local reserve. We did one of the shorter walking routes and saw buck grazing basically in the open, plus lots of bird activity. The paths are clear and mostly easy, with a few light uphills, and there are benches here and there if you want to just sit and watch. It’s quiet enough that you feel “out of town,” but you’re basically still in suburbia. There’s also a little restaurant/tea garden on site which is actually decent for breakfast or coffee after the walk. Parking felt fine and the place is generally clean and looked after. Great for a chilled Saturday morning.

Enjoyable walking trails just challenging enough without being difficult. Takes you through various bush types with a nice bird hide. You can spot duiker, impala, zebra and springbok on the trail as well as running streams. Free entrance and a restaurant on site. But you should book space for the restaurant in advance over weekends as it may be full at times. Great trail to take the kids along.

A nice place to go for a quick or longer walk on a nice sunny day. We have done a shorter walk that takes between 40 - 60 minutes depending on how fast you walk, but we also spent about 90 min, give or take, on another route to sight see a bit, but it can take longer. Note that there are in certain areas steeper inclines, so its not all flat. There is also a restaurant which has nice food and I, for one, loved their onion rings. There is a place for kiddies to play outside the restaurant.

What a gem! There are various hiking trails, differing in length. There are bird hides, various animals and stunning flowers! I'll recommend, if you have time, taking the longer route, don't miss walking next to the stream. There is a restaurant, but it was closed on the day we went.

The Pretoria Art Museum, established in 1964, is a prominent gallery located in Arcadia. Originally built to house the city's art collection, it now primarily focuses on South African works including pieces by renowned artists such as Hugo Naude, Henk Pierneef, Irma Stern and Maggie Loubser. While it also features international art, its main emphasis is on South African art.
Wow. I loved it. The art is fabulous. I especially enjoyed the pottery and sculptures. It's well run and beautifully laid out. There is a collection of old international artists, as well as many local artists. Do yourself a favour and visit here. I could have spent all day. The only downside is they only accept cash, so come prepared.

The permanent collection is so beautiful. There is a good mixed-media exhibition by Thomas and Neo in the furthest part of the building and there is some truly exciting works in the Sasol Signatures exhibition. On a different note, City of Tshwane should attend to the grounds and the building, it cannot look like it currently looks

A tidy, manageable collection that you can actually take in. The mix of South African modern and contemporary work is well presented, and the staff helped us map a sensible route in under two minutes. Good lighting, clear labels, and enough benches to pause. We spent around 90 minutes and didn’t feel rushed. Pair it with a walk in the nearby park or a café stop. If you like art but hate sprawling museums, this is a good fit.

An awesome space, definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. Adult Entry Fee : R25 - Worth the experience! Friendly and helpful staff. I would’ve personally liked more of the artworks to have a written explanation about the pieces or about the artist. I learned a lot about South African artists and look forward to visiting the museum again!

The place needs maintenance services from the outside, honestly! 🙄 There's a small fee to pay (discounted when you bring your student card). 🙃 The museum does have variety of themes they cover but only 4 are the biggest. Out of the 4 themes only one stood out for me personally. Some of the displayed art is rather disappointing but it is still worth checking out. I'm just sharing so one wouldn't be disappointed due to high expectations. There are sculptures and ceramics too. Oh what I really found to be cool was/ still is the art equipment/ stationery etc. With that one can refine their art using different tools or whatever....

Love this market! Half of it is a delicious assortment of baked goods, a variety of cuisines, and fresh beverages - the other half are talented artisans that use a variety of mediums from paint to beading, leatherwork to metalwork, jewelry and clothing. There's something for everyone, and lots of tables to sit and enjoy the atmosphere!

If you have been a regular supporter of the Hazel Food Market then you might agree that it's not like it use to be. It's still a great Saturday morning outing with the family including the fur family members are also welcome. Food stalls are the main attraction, although there's a wide variety of different products and craft stalls in between. The layout is what puts me off. There is ample security watched parking available. Not wheelchair friendly. Highly recommend visiting them next time you are in the area.
Melissa J — Google review
Exciting diversity for food, everything smelled and looked incredible. It's not as big as the Pretoria Boeremark, and with fewer stalls for fresh produce (though they still have). Excellent craftmanship for leather, wood- and metal-working. Also it's open later than some other markets, so you don't need to sacrifice any z's.

Great place! Love that you can try food from so many different places and cultures. Great fresh produce too

The Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary, named after the renowned J Austin Roberts, is a sprawling 29-acre nature reserve located in the Walkerspruit Open Space System. Home to over 170 species of vibrant birds, including the white-breasted cormorant and Egyptian geese, this sanctuary offers guided tours and an exhibition hall for visitors to explore.
We parked, strolled to the hide, and let the water do the work. Ducks, herons, and a steady stream of small surprises. Coffee at the restaurant next door made it feel like a proper pause in the day.
Patrick L — Google review
Visited today again after 5 years, i was scared away after the attacks at the hide and cars being stolen. Security has now been introduced, and new fencing with entry-gate that they control has been erected. You have too sign in now. The hide is still in a great condition and well looked after. Sadly the birdlife-sightings is very low and many summer-birds is gone that was always easy too see/photograph in the "old"days. Water is very muddy/dirty, with lots of algy growing/floating on the surface. Was wandering what the reason could be, as Pta has lots of rain recently.
Samuel D — Google review
Nice bird hide, nice place to visit. Do struggle to get access to the rest of the park as you apparently need an appointment, but the document at the gate states you only need appointments for guided tours. Think summer months will be better to visit as bird activity isn't great. Update: the bird life changes from day to day, some days i see nothing special other days i get kingfishers
Jaco B — Google review
A very relaxing place that you can visit daily. It has a pond and a bird watching area. Best to go early morning or late afternoon to enjoy a real birding experience.

Stressed, go for a stroll around Austin Roberts or dit on the deck of the Blue Crane restaurant and have something to drink and eat while watching the birds having a ball on and around the dam. Take many stunning bird photos. Its a real peaceful place to be in the heart of the very busy Pretoria

Nestled just an hour and a half from Pretoria, the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre is a remarkable sanctuary dedicated to the conservation of cheetahs and other endangered species. Established in 1971 by Ann van Dyk, this non-profit facility has made significant strides in breeding efforts, successfully increasing the population of cheetahs from a mere 700 in South Africa at its inception to around 600 bred within its walls.
I visited the Centre with my brother and a friend, and it was honestly such a great experience. From the moment we arrived, Nicki greeted us with a warm smile, which made us feel really welcome right away. Our guide, Sam, was fantastic! Super friendly, full of interesting facts, and he had us laughing the whole time with his jokes. He made the tour so fun and engaging—we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. The animals are clearly very well looked after. The cheetahs were definitely a highlight—such beautiful, powerful animals, and it’s obvious they’re in the best hands. We also loved seeing the wild dogs, meerkats, and hyenas up close. Each one had its own charm, and it was amazing to learn more about them. I’d definitely recommend visiting the Centre. It’s one of those experiences you won’t forget!

This is a must do while in South Africa ! I enjoyed seeing the cheetahs up close and learning so much about them ! They have so much freedom and space and live a wonderful life ! The cheetah run and game drive feedings are incredible! I had no idea that they had wildebeests, zebras and vultures as well! Nikki was very responsive to emails , and Sam and Winston were the best tour guides! Thank you for such a lovely day !

We truly enjoyed our visit to the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre! Our guide was very knowledgeable & told us many interesting facts about the animals there, including the cheetahs, & answered our many questions. As frequently travelers, we’ve visited numerous centres & seen many animals. We were MOST impressed as to how healthy & well-fed these animals were…something we’ve not always seen! I give highest marks to this centre & staff for their obvious dedication and care. This centre is definitely worth visiting!

Excellent walking tour. We saw amazing cats of various types and kinds. Truly a special experience and I would highly recommend. Preferably do it in the morning when it is a bit cooler and the animals a little more mobile. Excellent guide Jemima, knowledgeable, friendly, and loves her job. They have several package options including the cheetah run. Look it up on their website as this is their most popular package.

Nestled in Irene, a suburb of Pretoria, the Jan Smuts House Museum was once the home of Jan Christian Smuts, a prominent figure in South African history. As a three-time prime minister and influential leader during the South African War and World Wars I and II, he played a key role in establishing the League of Nations. Despite his military background, Smuts was dedicated to promoting peace.
5/5 stars! I'm so lucky to have discovered the Jan Smuts Museum! As a regular photographer here I've had the pleasure of getting to know the team and experiencing all that this beautiful venue has to offer. The museum itself is steeped in history and is a must-visit for anyone interested in learning more about Jan Smuts' life and legacy. But it's not just the museum that makes this place special - the cozy little coffee shop is the perfect spot to grab a cup of coffee and relax and the beautiful hiking trail offers breathtaking views and a chance to connect with nature. As a photographer I can attest that this is the perfect place for outdoor photoshoots - the scenery is stunning and the team is always accommodating and helpful. I feel like part of the family here and I highly recommend the Jan Smuts Museum to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable experience! Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover or just looking for a beautiful spot to relax, this place has something for everyone.
Kaalvoet P — Google review
Very much an old school museum, where a lot of things are well preserved. It nonetheless seems as if it could do with a bit of TLC and don’t expect too much active or interactive displays. The most remarkable thing is to see what modest life Jan Smuts must have led, despite the impact he’s had on world history. Serious Jan Smuts fans are sure to spend many hours there. The museum is well recommended for anyone that has even just a little interest in South African history.

We went here for our maternity shoot, and it's so beautiful. 100% recommend I suggest using The Kaalvoet Photographer for any photos needs
Alesha L — Google review
The house feels lived-in, not staged, which makes the history land better. Rooms are full of books, personal objects, and small details that guides explain with warmth. The grounds are lovely for a slow loop afterward, with benches under generous trees. It’s an easy, unrushed hour or two. The on-site tea garden is a nice finish if you’re in weekend mode. I’d bring out-of-town visitors here—simple, authentic, and quietly memorable.
Ryan M — Google review
Every South African should visit this place. It holds incredible history, and I learned so much during my time here

Morné P — Google review
Such a beautiful, historic and elegant venue for a matric photoshoot. The well kept grounds offer plenty of epic photo opportunities and the friendly staff are very enthusiastic about the work they do at this museum. And to top the session off, Ouma Issies coffee shop has scrumptious meals and great service.
Avril B — Google review
It’s a really cool piece of history that doesn’t feel like history homework. The house still looks and feels like someone actually lived in it — lots of personal stuff, books, photos, small details. The guides are good at telling stories without making it too serious or political or long-winded. After the house, you can walk around under the trees, and there’s usually a spot where you can sit for tea or something light. It’s not a full-day outing, but it’s a nice “slow-pace, learn something, breathe a bit” stop. I’d take visitors there, especially older family.

It is the only Victorian mansion in South Africa where the interior remains intact and authentic.

Absolute amazing time piece. Amazing staff and a very haunted house. Been here twice in 1 Month. We will be back again soon. So much history. Absolute amazing
PixelPrecisionmrkts P — Google review
Sammy Marks is technically a bit outside central Pretoria, but it’s a favourite. The house is almost frozen in time, with original furniture, décor and personal items still in place. A guided tour gives you all the stories about the family and the business side, and it turns into a nice mix of gossip and history. The grounds are also pretty – large lawns, trees, and a very “old estate” feel. We did the tour and then sat outside with something to drink, and it felt like we’d gone much further out into the countryside than we actually had.
Charles W — Google review
The drive out is short and worth it. The house is elegant without feeling roped off, and the guided tour adds stories that make the rooms stick in your head. We lingered on the veranda, looked over the lawns, and then walked the grounds. Tea in the garden rounded it off perfectly.
Patrick L — Google review
Very interesting to visit this Victorian museum. Guided tour. Tea garden on property as well offering light meals at an affordable price. I recently had my birthday there and they provide picnic baskets. You can choose to sit at tables under the trees or blankets on the grass. Lovely setting and ideal for families with children.
Gundi T — Google review
The amount of history in this house is incredible, the house is beautiful and very close to how it originally was. The tea garden is unfortunately very basic with few items on offer, and the garden has fallen from it's original glory, however still worth a see.

Irene Farm, a picturesque dairy farm established in 1895, is a popular family weekend destination. The farm offers two casual eateries with outdoor seating and a deli and bakery for takeout options. Guests can enjoy the a la carte menu or Sunday lunch buffet at the Barn restaurant while sitting under old oak trees. Children can have fun with jungle gyms, antique tractors, and adorable farm animals on the premises.
We stopped in at Irene Farm on a Sunday to take my little one to go look at the cows and enjoy the Winters day in Pretoria. Although we did not visit the restaurants we had a wonderful outing where he was able to interact with the calves as well as feed the grown cows which were in their enclosure. The atmosphere is lively and the excitement of all the little humans running around is palpable. The grounds are very well maintained. There is ample parking with car guards all around looking after your vehicle. An enjoyable and free outing ( because we didn't go to any of the restaurants on the property - next time).

Nice relaxed walk on a functioning farm. See the cows, chickens and ducks. 2 restaurants on site. A deli to purchase milk, yogurt, pies, ice cream and much more. Beautiful gardens to relax in under the trees. They just planted over 100 rose busses so excited to see them all in flower. Kids play areas

A genuine farm experience in the heart of the city. The venue features two restaurants, a variety of farm animals, and a local dairy offering fresh products such as ginger beer, pies, koeksisters, cream cheese, and more. My children absolutely love this place, especially because of the cows, animals, ponds, fish, ducks, and farm machinery.

What a refreshing outing! Irene Farm is a standout 'farm in the city' experience. It's the perfect blend of exercise and relaxation: we enjoyed long, beautiful walks on the pathways, plenty of green scenery, and charming encounters with the farm animals. The kids' playground is a major win! Lunch at the restaurant was worth the little wait—a great, diverse menu to please everyone. The farm shop has lovely, fresh options, though they come at a premium. Definitely a unique and wholesome way to spend a day! #IreneFarm #FarmExperience #GautengTravel #FamilyOuting #OutdoorFun #WalkingTrails #FarmToTable #CityGetaway

We spend the day at Irene farm. Very beautiful and great for the kids to see how a dairy farm works. All was fine till we went to THE BARN. Not really anything to get excited about. Food was tasty but took long. Staff not in a hurry. Our waitress Nocisebo looks upset to assist, rolling her eyes if asked we something and really not in a hurry to be helpfull.I must mention we where quite a big table. Some burgers where half dressed with garnish as if they could not care and just wanted to get rid of us. Great atmosphere but not worth the time to eat at the BARN if staff don't care. The main shop is great and made the day a better experience.

A great dine in experience overlooking a view of the farm. The best Avocado Ciabatta I’ve ever tasted. I would return in future.
Fathyma C — Google review
Irene Farm has evolved significantly over the years from its humble beginnings as a small milk shop into one of the most charming and well-developed destinations in Gauteng. The attention to detail in preserving the farm’s heritage while introducing tasteful modern amenities is evident in every corner of the property. I recently enjoyed what was arguably the best breakfast I've had in a long time—fresh, generously portioned, and beautifully presented. The quality of ingredients and level of service were outstanding. What truly sets Irene Farm apart is its appeal as a family-friendly outing. From wide open spaces and farm animals to shaded walkways and safe play areas, it's the perfect blend of relaxation and engagement for both adults and children. Highly recommended for a leisurely morning or weekend escape.

Nestled in Pretoria North, Wonderboom Nature Reserve is a charming public park offering a mix of historical and natural attractions. The reserve is home to the famous Wonderboom, a 1000-year-old fig tree with unique daughters. Visitors can explore the 19th-century Fort Wonderboom and discover Stone Age sites within the reserve's 200-hectare expanse. With open grasslands, rocky slopes, and woodlands, this destination provides a picturesque setting for relaxation.
Really nice! The hike was short but a lot of climbing which was great. The waterfall looked pretty cool too. Lots of space for a picnic with the family.

It was an alright trail. It had some good views. Although it wasPoorly marked we had gone somewhere and it led us to a gate. The waterfall promised was from a pipe and you couldn't even see it properly it was behind a fence. Disappointed.
Mansah A — Google review
Always a pleasure visiting the wonderboom. Unfortunately the place is not very well kept and the staff doesn’t look very enthusiastic. Great place for a short hike: in just over an hour you can do a round-trip visiting the fort and the waterfall. It’s not really signposted, but the path is relatively clear and there are not too many options to get lost - except perhaps closer to the waterfall where a little more guesswork is involved.

Fun and Challenging, not short of amazing views because I’am a first time “ Hiker” hopefully I’ll consider being a full one.

Clean, enjoyed the hike but it is a climb so bring lots of water, some snacks and sun screen. And always leave the place in a better condition so don't litter pick up. Nice views and there is fort and waterfall.
Nicky Z — Google review
We had a nice hike in a historical nature reserve that is nestled on the northern side of Pretoria city. Right in front of Wonderboom Junction shopping mall. The trail was not long, only 3.9 km. But if you want to get back home in one piece, better not to wear sneakers. The rocks were slippery and steep. On top, you'll see Wonderboompoort ruins as part of the highlights of the Nature Reserve itself, apart from the 1,000-year-old Giant Wild Fig tree with its daughters that you can see at the starting point of the trail. We didn't see the waterfall; it closed. There's an entrance fee of R47 at the gate. I wish they'd provide more bathrooms inside the nature reserve, because the ones in the parking area; I guess that's a bit far from the hiking trail.

The museum showcases a wide range of exhibits, including regional archaeological finds, rock paintings and engravings from the Stone Age and Iron Age, as well as an art gallery featuring sculptures, paintings, and crafts that provide an overview of South African culture through time.
Beautiful museum Bit old, and smelly 😂 but that’s just museums Some maintenance could be done to fix buttons, lifts etc. Overall very informative

First time in Pretoria, and a bit sad to see our cultural history not better taken care of. The building is decrepid with bird shit all over the atrium. The exhibits themselves are really really interesting, but the lighting is so poor one can barely see anything. It was really sad to see the photographic exhibition not even properly lit. Please do better!
Wayne S — Google review
We accidentally ended up in the wrong museum; there are two other Ditsong museums right around the corner. I actually wanted to go to the Natural Science Museum, but instead found myself stuck among spear-throwing dioramas, dusty glass display cases, and a darkroom for abandoned exhibitions. The contents and exhibits weren't bad at all. Hunting techniques, everyday objects, colonial kitsch. Unfortunately, they were barely visible because the lighting apparently came from the same budget as the last museum renovation promises. The photography exhibition by a brilliant artist was treated so poorly that you needed a flashlight to even make out contours. Highlight: products from the apartheid era. Nicely presented in photo frames. In ZA, there was hardly any domestic production; almost everything was imported. The museum was culturally educational, but rather tragic in terms of museums.
Tilman B — Google review
This museum has so much to offer, yet it is unfortunately falling into decay through neglect and lack of love for the heritage it could inspire… lights in displays not working, no visitors, dark and dirty corners…visitors book full of graffiti…

Beautiful little nature reserve. We came here many times about 30 years ago, and probably never realised what gem this is. Entrance fee is only R21 and gives you the opportunity to experience a unique piece of nature in the middle of the city.

This is a great hiking/ trail to walk. Different routes for different fitness levels witch is great. One can easily walk with children, dogs , family or run if you come for exercise. It's really available as well. I'm not giving a 5 star as I feel staff and management can better. Otherwise a wonderful place.

The Faerie Glen Nature Reserve is a good place to go for a weekend walk with friends. There are also allocated areas for picnics if that's something you'd like to do. I enjoyed the 4.5km hike/walk that takes you up onto the mountain. My friends and I were lucky enough to see some zebras up close as well. You should definitely give the reservation a try.
Maxime D — Google review
So we decided to do the 4,1 km trail, easypeazy, not by far. It is a well outlaid track. The steep down hills is tough on the knees. The sight seeing from the top is excellent. Next time I'll take binoculars with. I noticed there will be a river cleaning exercise somewhere in July. Well worthwhile.
Marius G — Google review
Some challenging hills on the 4.2km Kiepersol trail (longest and rated ‘difficult’) with great views at the top. The second hill summit can be bypassed or reached by a ‘scramble track’ but a lack of signage near the very top can lead to walking around it rather than onto the rocky top. Very rocky paths at times on the hills so walk carefully, especially going downhill. We spotted a Zebra family down on the ‘flat’ from the Faerie Glen Lookout and they were still there when we came down. Toilet facilities are in the entrance building only.
David G — Google review
If you want a quick hike without driving far, this is the one. The trails are short but some bits are steeper than they look, so you do feel like you earned the view at the top. From the ridge you can see across Pretoria East, which is pretty cool for the effort. We spotted a couple of small antelope and loads of birds. You do need proper shoes and water, especially in the hotter hours, because parts of the path are rocky and open sun. It’s also dog-friendly in certain areas (on lead), which is a win. Parking was straightforward and staff at the gate were friendly. I’d go again.

Fort Klapperkop, a 19th-century German fort located at the top of the Klapperkop Nature Reserve, offers a glimpse into the history of the Anglo-Boer War. Restored to its original state, it showcases defensive fortifications and exhibits military memorabilia, rifles, and furniture from that era. The surrounding area has been declared a nature reserve with opportunities for game spotting.
I was fascinated to know about the Anglo boer war, a lot I didn't know about, the peak was wonderful, you literally see the whole Pretoria plus the zebra's were fun to look at
Linda S — Google review
On 18 May each year, Museums around the world celebrate International Museum Day. The City of Tshwane Metro hosts has a significant number of museums of various descriptions, including art, history, science, or natural history. Fort Klapperkop Military Museum was my first option. Located within the Klapperkop Nature Reserve, it is easily accessible. The Fort has apparently been restored, but needs more TLC. Historical artifacts are mostly in good nick, and the premises are under Municipal supervision. The history of the "Pretoria Forts" is interesting. Wikipedia is helpful to gain insight. In the years preceding the Anglo-Boer War (1899 -1901) the then ZAR government, commissioned engineers to construct four forts (of the eight that were apparently planned) around Pretoria to defend their capital city: Fort Wonderboompoort (completed Sep 1897) in the north, Fort Daspoortrand, also called Westfort (Nov 1898) towards the west of the city. The military fort should not be confused with 'Westfort Village', which is a settlement that grew up around it and was associated with a leprosy hospital. Fort Klapperkop (Jan 1898) and Fort Schanskop (April 1897) a short distance on the hill opposite Klapperkop, and in close proximity to the Voortrekker Monument (VTM), were built to defend the key southern entrance into Pretoria. Fort Klapperkop was built using stone from the site itself and has an empty moat around it. Fort Daspoortrand (a.k.a. Westfort) was hexagonal (French design) in shape, while the other three were pentagonal (German design). Despite the fortifications being built, Pretoria was taken by British forces, and occupied on 5 June 1900. In 1938, the two southern forts were declared provincial heritage sites. Fort Klapperkop was restored in 1966 and converted to a military museum, and Fort Schanskop followed in 1978. Both are open (2025) under supervision to visitors. The other two forts have sadly fallen into disrepair. Had a warm reception at the fort, and felt safe. Stairs to the top might be daunting, but staff offer those with mobility challenges the alternative of driving up close to the huge steel doors. Had a great visit, and shall continue the quest.

If you are someone who enjoys architecture, history or even a place to take the kids, I recommend a visit the Fort… R30 for adults and R15 for students and pensioners

The hiking routes aren't amazing and there's not a lot of shade, but overall the place is worth a visit thanks to the beautiful views of Pretoria it offers. I also saw some zebras along the way, and there are benches at all the lookout spots making for a nice picnic environment. There is security and the fort/monument is also worth seeing.
Henning L — Google review
Bit of a hill, big payoff. Old ramparts, artillery pieces, and a long view over the city that makes you pause. We did a slow lap around the fort, read a few panels, and then just stood in the wind watching the suburbs and highways stretch out.

Cash entrance only (R30 pp). Very interesting and informative.

The Fort Klapperkop Museum is located in the Groenkloof suburb of Pretoria and is part of the Fort Klapperkop Nature Reserve. Amazingly, the building has survived all these years. Inside, visitors can see cannons, also referred to as guns, and explore the fort itself. The rooms have displays showcasing what the fort was used for in the past. If you enjoy museums and history, this can be a good outing for you. Additionally, there are some nice high points of view to take in. It's not expensive to visit the museum. Admission is less than R50 per person. Just confirm opening hours before going. Some brief history... Fort Klapperkop was built in the late 1800s to protect Pretoria from invasion. It had a moat, drawbridge, and artillery turrets. At its peak, 30 troops manned the fort, but it was never fired upon. Today, it is a military museum with a statue honoring members of the South African Defense Force who lost their lives. For more things worth doing and places worth seeing. Check out thinkadventure.co

The market is not just about shopping; it's a celebration of Pretoria's diverse culture with live music, DJ beats, and an energetic atmosphere that brings the community together. This vibrant event showcases local entrepreneurs, designers, artists, and musicians for a full day of entertainment.
I loved the atmosphere; good food; good music; great company from different people. Almost everyone is there to have a good time and interact with new people. It's safe and child friendly environment, it's a full package for the whole family.

Very viby with some nice food stalls and crafty shops when I was there for an event. Had amazing musicians playing on multiple stages

Absolutely a beautiful space to mingle and socialise. The one thing that stood out for me was that their cocktails were really good 10/10.Their bathrooms were clean. Live performances 10/10 too! The downside about the event is that it is actually not child friendly there’s a lot of alcohol consumption and people smoking hubbly. Most of the things being sold are overpriced including food & drinks! If you’re a lover of anything artsy you will definitely enjoy it. Review based on the event that took place 06 August 2022.

Wonderful space. An oasis in the middle of a busy town. Its surprisingly spacious, with a stalls area where live bands perform, an outside area where kids can also play, as well as a beer hall where you can watch sports if you want. The free parking was a plus. The only thing I'd like to see is more beer variety. There were no craft beers or taps, just a few mainstream beers and ciders. Overall I'd recommend it. Will be going back again.

Market @ the sheds is one of the sought after markets located in the Pretoria's central business district, in the heart of Pretoria. All sorts of items are sold ranging from beauty products, accessories & jewellery, clothing, food & beverages and a whole lot more. There's a live band playing music. The place is buzzing with people from all South African races. It's a melting pot of traditional and modern culture, it's the essence of South Africa. It's the first liveliest market I've ever been to which I attend every end of the month. The dates are announced on their website. Because there's entertainment, there's an entrance fee after a certain time of the day. The market is between 11am to 6pm. There's secured parking available with a boom gate and a security. There's also a ramp access for those using a wheel chair.

A kaleidoscope of art music fashion in the Pretoria CBD! I think this is an impressive revival of the downtown art and music scene. Was truly an amazing experience!! A good variety of food. A very diverse market place where you can find different items of clothing. They also sell exotic food. You can even find food from Taiwan there. Sometimes there is a main even where an artist goes on stage to perform during the market hours. You can bring your own hubbly there to smoke. The entrance fee is R50.

Well-run venue with strong programming across multiple stages. Front-of-house was efficient, seats were comfortable, and sound and lighting were spot on for the production we saw. It feels polished without being stuffy. We arrived a bit early to wander the foyers and ended up chatting with staff who clearly care about the place. Pair a show with dinner nearby and you’ve got yourself a solid night out.

If you're on the lookout for an exhilarating outdoor adventure, Acrobranch Pretoria North is a must-visit destination. Nestled in lush greenery, this treetop park offers a thrilling experience for both children and adults as they navigate through various obstacle courses designed to suit different age groups and fitness levels. Picture yourself soaring through the air on zip lines, balancing on wooden walkways, and climbing rope ladders high above the ground—it's an adrenaline rush like no other!
We all did the blue course. Challenging and fun. Thelma was a fantastic and patient guide, assisting myself and my 14yr old daughter who are very scared of heights. The cables and obstacles are strong and well built holding my 116kg hubby. Although December and cloudy rainy weather, it was beautiful and peaceful up in the trees. You can also opt to zipline through some of the obstacles. The big zip was great fun for all of us. Would definitely recommend for the adventurous family👌

Ludwig's Roses Pretoria East, not to be confused with the farm North of Pretoria, is a family-operated rose farm boasting over 20,000 rose bushes in a kaleidoscope of hues and captivating fragrances. Visitors can wander through expansive rose gardens, handpick their own blooms during the blossoming season, and enjoy the opportunity to receive garden advice.
I took my family to Ludwigs for an Easter Sunday Event . The website stated that it was at the North Farm, but the FB link took us to the Pta East site. Luvyo was a wonderful host - he explained the mixup to all the people who were arriving at the wrong place. His attitude was so positive and helpful, that we decided to stay and check out all the roses. He was knowledgable, entertaining and interesting. We each bought the perfect rose, based on his advice and it was a lovely outing after all. Exceptional service!

I did the crocodile route, which is 10km. There's an escape route somewhere along the way saying if tired turn here as it's about to go down 🤣🤣 believe it. I love how the trail is well marked, one can never miss the route or get lost. Really loved and enjoyed the scenic views. I recommend that you pack a snack and hydration as you'll need these.
Masana M — Google review
We did the 5km Zebra trail. Its advertised as easy - Moderate... the first 2km is uphill and hard! The last 3km is downhill and easy. Roads are clearly marked and trails are well looked after. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Cross the river via bridge or cable car! Very cool! Take loads of fluid!
Riaan G — Google review
(Krokodilberg 10km) A real gem close to Harties. Great for trail running. Plenty of places to rest and take in the views of the gorges and hills and beautiful lush valleys. Well maintained and marked.
Jaco G — Google review
Did the 10km trail. Feels like a 20km - lots of climbing and steep downhills. There are 2 escape routes along the trail because it can get treacherous. You have to be very fit for this trail and have the proper hiking gear etc. Some nice suspension bridges along the river. Take lots of water and snacks.
Kerusha P — Google review
It was fairly difficult for me because I'm honestly unfit, however its a great hiking trail. No animals to see. You get to see the Hennops river and other beautiful sceneries. There is a cable car that requires man power which I unfortunately didn't get to go on but it looked fun. Overall I would definitely recommend this trail.
Nicole M — Google review
I enjoy this trail a lot. I find it challenging, and i love how they have multiple warning signs and escape routes along the way 😅 I generally walk the 10km, and it's not easy by any stretch of the imagination. My favourite spot is the cave. If you choose to go down there, the view of the river is spectacular from there (the video attached). It's a really good workout, would highly recommend for a nice challenge. They have different trail lengths, and you can either use the cable car or bridge to cross the river on the way back (I'd suggest the cable car - but you have to pull it yourslef to get to the other side). The place does get very busy, they also have picnic and braai areas where people can chill when done (i haven't been)

Menlyn Park Shopping Centre is a modern and spacious mall located in Pretoria, South Africa. It boasts an impressive array of over 500 shops, including international brands, as well as numerous casual dining options. The mall's airy central atrium adds to its contemporary ambiance. With a total floor space of 177,000 square meters, it holds the distinction of being the largest mall in South Africa.
It's amazing. The sheer size of the Mall satiates any shopaholic cravings as there is a wide variety of stores and areas to enjoy. It's beautiful and very big, I enjoyed my time yhere while visiting in the area
Ntandokazi M — Google review
Welcome to the labyrinth of capitalism! This mall is so architecturally impressive that it's easy to get lost three times even though you're only looking for a single store. What's particularly nice is that you ask for directions and are politely but unsuccessfully directed. In the end, of course, you find the store by chance, so it's almost like real life. Security is top-notch, and the flow of consumption is uninterrupted. People voluntarily spend hours, days, maybe even entire periods of their lives here. Not me, actually. It's comfortable, safe, and air-conditioned. And eventually, you get used to everything. Even to feeling at home in a temple of consumerism. Bravo.
Tilman B — Google review
Modern construction, office block, casino and all! A well constructed metropolitan. The Mall itself is huge with multiple floors and entrances! I'm writing to express my disappointment and frustration with my recent visit to your store. As a loyal customer at identity, I was shocked and upset by the behavior of your staff. Upon entering the store, I overheard staff members laughing and mocking my phone, which made me feel uncomfortable and disrespected. As someone who values inclusivity and respect, I was appalled by their actions. I'd appreciate it if you could look into this matter and take necessary actions to ensure your staff understands the importance of providing a welcoming environment for all customers. If needed, I'm more than happy to discuss this further or come in-store to resolve the issue. Please let me know the next steps. Looking forward to hearing from you. The mall is known for its upscale ambiance and premium shopping experience, featuring international trend-setting shops, exclusive designer boutiques, luxury specialty retailers, beauty salons, and gourmet eateries. Visitors can also enjoy complimentary parking in safe rooftop or undercover areas.
One of the oldest malls in Pretoria, I suppose. I'm liking the fact that till now the mall is still in good shape, clean, vibrant, and has many shops to shop from. It doesn't look dull or deteriorating. It has quite a few restaurants you can pick from to satisfy your culinary experience. I really hope the mall will remain like this.
Sara L — Google review
Welcome to one of Pretoria's hundred thousand malls: a labyrinth of shiny tiles, bright lights and lost souls with huge bags to get lost in. A huge old mall with a thousand parking spaces. Of course you look for the one small store that seems to teleport itself as you walk in circles, sweating, surrounded by consumer professionals. Three times through the complex, past the same chain stores as in every other mall on the planet, and then the miracle happens! You find the store. Brief joy, then disillusionment: where was the car again? Here? No, not here! Not there either! Perhaps in a parallel world. This mall was the final boss.
Tilman B — Google review
This is still one the nicest shopping centres to visit..if you love coffee shops then this is for you and if you love books theres plenty of book shops for every type of reader...theres a movie cinema and lots of great shops of different likes and style to buy that special and unique item or gift for someone special..ive been going for a while now and havnt managed to visit half the coffee shops and restaurants..

Brooklyn Mall is relatively easily accessible from the surrounding suburbs, the Central Business District, as well as from Pretoria East. Parking is apparently free since recently. The mall features most of the usual chain stores and restaurants, some spilling over to the lower floor open area, where a kiddies play area is also located. This food court /dining area has a great ambiance, except during loadshedding when the noisy generators kick in. Brooklyn Mall also has a Cinema Nouveau.
Victor R — Google review
Brooklyn Mall is still one of my favourite places to shop in Pretoria. It’s clean, never too chaotic, and has a great mix of high-end and everyday stores. Plus, the restaurants upstairs are perfect for a quiet lunch.

Pathetic and uncaring management. My kids went for the 20.30 movies at Ster kinekor and all the mall gates were locked when we went to fetch them. We had to park outside on the road with no lights. We were sitting ducks for high jackets and muggers. We are pensioners and Brooklyn mall doesn't care for the safety of its patrons.

Beautiful and well kept family-friendly environment giving off a relaxed walk in the forest feel. The hiking trails are well marked and begginer friendly. Noticed a lot of activities happening around, including cycling, ziplining and flower picking. On the restaurant side, there's absolutely nothing peculiar about the food to be paying that price. We waited for quite some time to get seated and served for breakfast, but that's probably because we finished our hike around the same time as everyone else. What an amazing place. Great atmosphere, good food. Loads of activities turning into great fun for adults or small kids. Activities are not too expensive. Bit crowded over weekends. The outside restaurant area is PET FRIENDLY.

I love the mtb and hiking trail. It is open for a reasonable amount of time, works efficiently and is well marked. Play area, acrobranch, painting at Clay Cafe and roses all in one place. Great for a family day out. I do think their restaurant is too expensive thus the 4 star.

Very nice place, I was here for dinner with friends, we ordered steaks and pizzas. My steak was too fried (as you can see in the picture), I ordered Medium Rare, and I got right Well Done, for which I wanted to give thtee stars but the lady from the service was very nice so I expose 4 to 5.

Quite an easy and enjoyable trail. It has good signage everywhere. They do need to clean up next to the river as it looks like a dumping site :(

I love this hiking spot, it's perfect for the whole family! There's a market on Saturdays! There's a creative pottery workshop, a rose garden, and a photo studio!

I like the whole atmosphere surrounding the big red barn... the family vibe, the pet friendliness and the food! It can get busy due to the popularity of the place, so make sure to reserve a table, especially on holiday days. We enjoy the trail as well. It's quite an easy route with different distances to choose from. It's also pet friendly and easy enough for the whole family (kids or babies in a pram included). The trail has a lot of shade at least, so it's not like you'll be in the sun for the entire trail. I would actually say there is more shaded areas than sunny areas.

The Nelson Mandela Statue, unveiled on the Day of Reconciliation in 2013 at the Union Buildings, stands as a towering nine-meter bronze tribute to the iconic leader. Positioned at the very site of his inauguration as South Africa's first democratically elected president, this larger-than-life sculpture captures Mandela with outstretched arms and his characteristic smile. Surrounded by indigenous South African flora and other notable statues, it serves as a powerful reminder of history and resilience.
Had an opportunity to visit the Union Buildings in Pretoria, South Africa. The statue is stunning overlooking the city. Definitely worth a visit.

It's worth the visit and being able to appreciate the historic journey he made. However....and maybe a sign of current times....Be prepared to be ID checked in the national park and see how quickly the streets around the manicured formal gardens fall into disrepair and neglect...

What a lovely experience for first timers. Staff was helpful in explaining everything and answering all the questions we had. Super supportive and encouraging as well. Drinks on sale on premise which helps on a hot day. Would most definitely do it again. What a challenging activity! ** Slightly difficult to get to owing to (1) gravel roads (3km) (2) business is within gated farms. Need to call at least twice upon entry for access. ** At least 5 friendly dogs on the premises.

Our birthday girl chose an adventurous 7th birthday here. What a wonderful day full of fun and tons of adventure. The atmosphere was full of anticipation and the promise of adventure left an electric sparkle... The party kicked off the day with turns on the jungle gyms and ‘foefie’ slide. Then they took on the go-karting track. The session was kicked off with safety rules and demonstration how to handle the go-cart, even the least adventurous was coaxed with a lot of patience to participate and everyone enjoyed it to the fullest. The drivers showed their skills to applause and encouragement of the spectators Then it was time to tackle the climbing walls. Once again, the session was kicked off with safety rules and harnessing, the guides led the climbers with a lot of patience and encouragement to master the wall and enable the climbers to be real spider monkeys! The day ended with delicious boerewors rolls that everyone hungrily devoured and pudding was of course birthday cake or rather cupcakes. The day ended too quickly, it was time to go home tired but happy. Congratulations to the owners and every guide, for their patience and who made the day extra special for the adventurous as well as the more timid party goers. This is a place to keep in mind for a party or team building, there is so much more to enjoy here than I have written about. There is something for adults, youth and children alike.

Great littke climbing wall, each wall have various grades on them from 14 upwards, I climb 6a in the UK so about a 20/21 down here in South Africa. Fixed ropes are static ropes looped through pulley wheels. Lead walls with roofs and 2 bouldering areas.

The Climbing Barn team (under Lourens' guidance) is very professional, accommodating, skilled and all-round good people to be around. The venue is a gem out on the plots of Pretoria and it is highly recommended for both party- and individual climbing adventures for all ages. The staff here are horrible and have a terrible attitude, last year the Teller Valarie had me arrested for wanting to exchange my notes of R11 100.00 all because she thought I was catching on an attitude when I asked her where else can I go to exchange my notes if not here! She looked at the notes an ld assumed and alleged that they were from the cash in transit money, without sending g my money to the lab and having it tested like she had said they would do in the beginning! I went to them like 7 or 8 times, each time was an excuse ot they had notices up saying they were closed due to civil etc, I had to spen a night in Jail and had to pay my lawyer about R16 000.00, I didn't even go to court the next day, they just released me, a year later they cleared my money and I'm Stull being given the run around as Memory is on leave and the bank is under renovation s and will only re open in 2026!

What a disappointment. I traveled twice from Johannesburg to Pretoria to exchange old notes. The first time I was told that the teller service is only open on Monday and Wednesday between 9 and 12. I went back again today and there was no access. I called the SARB and was informed that the teller service is unavailable 'due to an unfortunate situation '. I was told that I can go to any Standard Bank that has a foreign exchange service. This also turned out to be incorrect! What an unhelpful and unprofessional service from such a supposed important and esteemed institution!!!

Ludwig's Roses, located on the outskirts of Pretoria, is a floral paradise boasting over 1000 varieties of roses. Visitors can explore the expansive rose farm on a complimentary tractor ride and wander through the nursery. The onsite Rose Kitchen offers a delightful dining experience with rose-flavored treats, while the shop sells an array of rose-themed products and souvenirs. It's an ideal spot for couples seeking a tranquil outing surrounded by the beauty and fragrance of blooming roses.
As a photographer, I love this place, which is the only place I can feel free to take photos of the beautiful roses and birds and bees. Definitely the most friendly people that work there, and the fact that you can buy roses and eat and have nice craft beer I really enjoy the beauty to smell and see a field of roses.

Beautiful rose farm just outside of Pretoria. Worth the drive. Wide selection of beautiful roses. They have a restaurant on site as well as a little shop. Dont be in a rush at the restaurant. They are not McDonalds. Relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. They can get very busy over a weekend especially if its the rose festival. Friendly staff. Undercover sand play area for the kids. Clean bathrooms. Nursery staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Nelson has assisted us multiple times over our visits and he is helpful, kind and willing to give his recommendations on what roses are top picks. You can buy bags of substrates, pots of various sizes and fertilisers (home brand). Enjoy a tractor ride through the rose fields (weekends) at no charge.

The farm is big with lots of different roses. The farm workers are friendly and helpful 🌸 The restaurant strikes the perfect balance between rustic and vintage. The menu is very limited, it’s simple with just a few dishes. We tried chicken and beef burgers, they were delicious 💯 The restaurant is huge with options of seating inside or outside (beautiful view) and playground for kids. It’s ideal for casual functions 🌸 Our server was kinda impatient with us. Some of the staff worked seamlessly to create a seamless dining experience for other customers 🌹

Go there for roses, all shapes and sizes, but do not forget to do a little walk around first, have a meal and chat to staff. A perfect play area for kiddies, shaded, and place for mom and dad to sit and rest. The staff knows their roses and problems that might arise. Reckson assisted us and once he understood what we wanted, he offered us various options within our requirements, cut us heads so we can see what they look like and gave advise on where and how to plant. It is amazing to have this so close to us and then such excelent service to top it all off.

Absolutely worth a visit even though there are no roses in bloom. Can spend the entire morning just chilling in the lovely venue.

The Main reason my guest-friend and I visited: her last morning, before flying back the evening, after 2+ weeks business-trip in South Africa. Her annually gift and African place mats, cloths, mugs, souvenir shopping. As her hostess, landlady, she spoiled me with amazing gifts, from avos, chilli sauces, olives, artichokes from the Olive Lady, an artistic addition to my health kitchen corner : grating plate - so much to do - (name on bottom of the plate): I use it every single day, grinding my fresh ginger, garlic, carrot, nuts, lemon orange peel, for home made salad dressings, and sauces. I love the vibe. She came all the way from Czechoslovakia, to show me the Irene village market 😎 (I was not here, but at Ludwig roses, longgg ago.) When lunch time came. The Vegetarian Food for me was easy to find, not in wrap, but plated, next to the Olive Ladies stall... (from carnivor keto to under supervision wellness eating plan) it was Great fresh food💞 Steak roll for her, and beer. She loved it. Wine tasting, few bottles were 'exported' that day, as gifts 😁🍷 Love love Love the bench we ate at, shared with a Mom and her young children, (all cyclists) while they were sipping on what looked like bubble tea 😍 introducing ourselves to each other, and Mom explained to the children that shown interest.. where on the map 'this happy, friendly lady, with accent, is from. Her husband and their eldest son arrived from cycling... We just finished our meals, and made space for this beautiful Family meetup outing. Stopped at Ludwig Rose's on our way out... I was blessed with another gift, Iceberg standard (deep purple wine colour) to plant in my 'being created herb garden' Such a fun and memory making day, under the plenty trees, in nature, and under sunny African Sky. Thank you for an Amazing Outdoor Quality market for young, old, fit to wheelchairs, doggies and all. Proudly South African 👌 Will be back soon.

University of Pretoria has been exceptional from them streamlining the application process to the support by the lecturers and supervisors for my postgraduate studies. A huge Thank you to Prof Yazbek and Dr Morobe. I've studied previously at other universities, but must admit that the assistance received from UP is incomparable. My lastest encounter was with needing assistance with the library. I’ll be the first to admit that I'm not very tech-savvy. I had an urgent deadline and needed immediate support—and that’s when Sagren Naidoo from UP Information Services truly went above and beyond. I was lucky to get his contact details from a colleague, and I can’t begin to express how much his help meant to me. “Thank you” doesn’t feel like enough. Jan Cilliers Park, also known as Protea Park or the Fairy Park, is a beloved destination in Pretoria. This family- and pet-friendly park offers jogging trails, lakeside picnic spots, and stunning city views amidst tall indigenous trees. It's one of the oldest and most beautiful parks in the area, featuring soothing water features, native plants, and sprawling lawns for relaxation and leisurely strolls.
Safe park within a gated estate, a great place to relax with friends and family. The grass is well maintained, and quite clean. There is a river or small stream and kids may cool and play in there ...unsure if this water is not contaminated but from own looks, it looks clean. The park is quite large, and have sufficient parking for may cars. Some people love music and they bring speakers which could be a nuisance to those who may want very quiet area. However, I experienced this once and the other days, I found the park to be peaceful. This is again a very good spot for snapping pictures, be it in special occasions such as weddings, graduations etc or just for fun. I saw a sign about free wifi, and did not get to test it, I will come back with another review once I check the wifi. Thanks Tswane Municipality.

Decided to stop by since I was in the area. I got to enjoy some time outdoors while getting a few chapters in. This park is clean and well maintained. It also seems really safe with security presence. I also saw some dog owners taking their fur babies for a walk. There are lots of trees and it's a great setting for an impromptu picnic. You could also sit on a bench next to the pond and this spot would be perfect if you needed to ponder about your current debacles. Definitely visit to see for yourself.

We have been spending Womansday with our friends and family at this park for 14 years. We call it the Fairy Park because to us its magical with all its nooks and babbling water. Over all well maintained though the toilets could do with a bit of work.
Rochelle B — Google review
It’s a beautiful park. It’s quite big and spacious. Family and dog friendly. There’s lots of trees, grass area, and plants. There’s also a waterfall and pond with fish. It’s great for picnics. It’s quiet, tranquil and safe. It’s just hard to find taps/drinking water and the restrooms aren’t cleaned or well maintained.

Yohhh what a beautiful scenery, an absolutely beautiful well maintained park. Very quite so many ample shaded space... We sat next to the mini waterfalls so the sound of water was so refreshing... A phenomenal experience overall
Ayanda N — Google review
Such a beautiful, clean and quiet park. In an affluent neighbourhood. Great place to take and walk, read and walk a dog
Vuyokazi — Google review
Great for picnics 😉 Absolutely serene and free of charge. Only gas braais permitted.

Just got back from a family picnic. Beautiful park with loads of shade and lawns for days. Lovely benches everywhere and the most spectacular little stream running through the park with the sound of water in the back ground. Huge fish pond with stunning Koi's. Bathrooms are basic, but adequate - could use a little TLC though. Very well kept public park, which is rare in South Africa.

The Nelson Mandela Statue, standing at an impressive 9 meters tall, is a magnificent bronze tribute to the iconic leader located near the Union Buildings in Pretoria. This stunning sculpture not only serves as a symbol of Mandela's generosity but also offers breathtaking views of the city. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls through the surrounding park, which provides a perfect backdrop for family photos emulating Mandela’s famous pose.

Pete M — Google review
Historical place, must visit when you are in capital city Pretoria. Unfortunate they are not allow you to go into to the building. You can view whole Pretoria City as well. Must take the picture with great leader, Mandela.

An absolute sight to behold. Massive statue unveiled in December 2013. Plenty of parking along the main road.

A very open place and park to hang out with love ones. The place is historic and educational. Nice visiting

The statue was incredible and massive. The park and statue looked like symbolizing his generosity embracing everyone. My whole family took a lot of photos here copying his motion :) Had a lovely time. RIP Nelson Mandela.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Tshwane, Time Square Casino Menlyn is a contemporary gem that offers a delightful blend of entertainment and relaxation. With cozy rooms and suites, guests can unwind after an exhilarating day at the casino or enjoying events at the state-of-the-art SunBet Arena. This multipurpose venue hosts everything from concerts to conferences, making it a hub for excitement. While trying your luck at the slots, you’ll find that locals flock here for its diverse gambling attractions.
We went to see Afrikaans is Groot show at the Arena. Great venue , great vibe
Metal T — Google review
Times Square Casino offers an exciting and modern gaming experience that truly stands out in the bustling city atmosphere. The moment you step inside, you are greeted by a vibrant ambiance and a wealth of new slot machines, all in impeccable working order. This variety ensures that there's something for everyone, whether you're a seasoned player or a newcomer trying your luck. One of the notable aspects of Times Square Casino is its attentive service. It’s never a challenge to find a waitress, ensuring that your refreshments are just a call away. Plus, the on-site restaurants provide an array of dining options, making it easy to satisfy your culinary cravings without leaving the premises. However, one downside that detracts from the overall experience are the late-night visitors. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed a pattern of unruly behavior, particularly from intoxicated patrons who can be quite loud and disruptive. This can mar the enjoyment of an otherwise thrilling night, particularly during peak hours when the casino is at its busiest. It would benefit the casino management to keep a closer watch on maintaining a more controlled environment, as the unruly behavior can diminish the experience for others. In summary, Times Square Casino is a fantastic venue with modern gaming options and commendable service. If they can effectively manage the late-night crowd, it would undoubtedly elevate the overall experience for all visitors. If you’re looking for a lively night out with friends or a chance to unwind, Times Square Casino is worth a visit—just be mindful of the late-night atmosphere.
Roxy J — Google review
Very mediocre. The staff are not friendly at all, there's no vibe at all, and the available games are roulette, black jack and seven hundred themes on slot machines. Overpriced drinks and restaurants make this venue even more missable. Boring, won't be returning.
Richard — Google review
Seriously, it sucks that this company can't connect my MVG platinum card to the Sun International app. I've been to four casinos, and it's been a total waste of time. I'm definitely not feeling like a valued guest. What's it gonna take to fix this, 'cause I bet I'm not the only one with this problem, right?
Christoniel P — Google review
Everything you'd expect from a Sun International Casino - well equipped, classy rooms with a view that gets better every time you go. The staff are fantastic. Food gets a solid 4/5 too.
Ray R — Google review
The waiters are very rude and there is no service from them. We had to go and get our own drinks everytime we wanted one. The slot machines where you sit and play are dirty and not wiped down, we had to do it. The ashtrays are so full and dirty. Poor service from the staff overall at the casino.
Angeline C — Google review
⭐ 1 Star Very Disappointing Experience – Needs Urgent Management Intervention I visited Time Square Casino in Pretoria on the 20th of June, and it was a very underwhelming and frustrating experience. Far too many slot machines were out of order, and when I approached staff for help, their attitudes were unprofessional and unfriendly. It felt like customer service was simply not a priority. There were drunk individuals occupying machines, not playing, just loitering around and creating an uncomfortable environment for other guests. Even worse, I witnessed staff shouting across the casino floor while using guest entrances—completely destroying any sense of a quality experience. The toilets were dirty and smelled bad, which is unacceptable for a venue of this size and reputation. On top of that, security in the parking area felt inadequate, leaving me with serious concerns about safety. If you’re considering visiting a casino in Gauteng, I’d strongly recommend Emperors Palace or Montecasino instead. Time Square simply doesn't compare in terms of service, cleanliness, or professionalism. Unless management steps in and makes major changes, I won’t be returning.
Leon C — Google review
⭐☆☆☆☆ Worst experience ever at Time Square Casino. Floor assistance is terrible – you can wait up to 25 minutes for anyone to attend to you. Many of the slot machines are stuck, making it frustrating to play. To top it off, the parking exit is a complete mess, often blocked off and badly managed. This casino is poorly run from start to finish. No seats supposed to be reserved but players leave cards and walk around for hours to return and bad mouth you with the attendants after card removed due to non active player. No toilet paper in toilet and filthy basins Definitely never going back.

Fairtree Atterbury Theatre is a top-notch concert hall with excellent acoustics for modern shows and conferences. Located in the Lynnwood Bridge Retail development, it offers a mix of trendy restaurants, specialty stores, and a City Lodge Hotel. The theater has gained popularity for hosting comedic acts like Thapelo Tips' one-man show and Tips & Friends Comedy Nites featuring local comedians such as Lindzy Msimang and Tumi Morake.
Always experienced enjoyable performances here. This time round was the hysterical, laugh a minute comedy drama My Boetie se Sussie se Ou. Funny. I think I popped an eye ball, joyful tears streaming down my cheeks

Loved the show. Seating is not too small with enough legroom. Toilets are clean and enough to accommodated all attendees. Good idea to come early to get your drinks at the bar as it closes 10-15 min before the show. Lots of restaurant’s around to sit down before the show. Prices of the shows is reasonable and it is good to see the talent out there perform. Love the culture.

Our visit to the Atterbury Theatre was a genuinely pleasant experience. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed warmly, which created a positive atmosphere for the evening. The venue is well maintained, comfortable and has good acoustics that enhance any performance. The show we attended was well put together, and the theatre’s professionalism and inviting environment made the entire outing thoroughly enjoyable. I would gladly return for future events.

Nkwe Pleasure Resort is a great place to enjoy a family picnic. The park is well-equipped with shaded rondavels, convenient braais and ablution facilities that are well maintained.
We use to go there every weekend in die 90's. That was our hang out spot. Being back there was such a treasure of memories . Being young, having fun in the sun. It's a must visit little treasure gem. In nature, having a braai or picnic and swimming in an all natural waterfall plunging into a pool. Mother nature is awesome

Beautiful nature scenery. Grass was cut short. Toilets clean. We had a great time with a birthday party st Ngwe. Good sturdy kiddies play equipment. Bring a gazebo and a table with a couple of chairs. Perfect.

Safe, clean, friendly and incredibly amazing service. Roy was just incredible assisting us, coming from far. The terrain is well kept, clean, bathrooms neat, tidy, friendly staff. Absolutely incredible. I highly recommend staying there for the night.

Just the outing we needed for Father's Day after lunch we spontaneously decided to spend the night over and it was great to be in the "nature" and away from reality!!!! If only we can go back..........
Monique — Google review
We spent the day at picnic area. Wow, neat, tidy and clean ablution facilities. Lapa & braai area perfect. We were impressed. We booked the night to sleep over. Can't compare... clean and comfortable but no hot shower after funful day. Was dying for cup of coffee. Nun provided. Was told they don't serve beverages. If we knew we would have packed. Normally a stay over do provide coffee/tea/creamer/sugar for at least one cup per person spending the night. The reception was cold and as if they are doing us a favor. Did expect a little more from accommodation side.
