Waterfalls
Steavenson Falls is a must-visit attraction in Marysville, offering a stunning 84-meter drop waterfall. Visitors can access the falls from the car park with a short 700-meter walk to the viewing platform. For those seeking more adventure, there's an option to hike from the town center, which takes around 30 minutes to an hour depending on fitness levels. The area also features camping grounds and trails for outdoor enthusiasts.
A must visit place, 84m falls located just 350m from the parking lot(if you're lucky enough to get a parking near the entrance 😉), we couldn't try the longest hike since we were with a toddler. Very convenient walk if you want to visit the bottom of the fall, have to take a steep climb to reach the top of the fall. Finding a parking spot wasn't easy for us since it was on a public holiday. Toilet facilities were ok. Can take the pram up to certain point and have to leave it if you want to witness the falls from the best viewpoint. Swimming is strictly prohibited since the water is used for town water supply.

Easy walk from the car park. Only 700 meters. There are harder longer options available that are very scenic. It's good to see the progress of recovery after the 2009 fires, but will take many years for the trees to grow back to the same grandeur. A visit at night is highly recommended, where the falls and the paths are lit from the small 13kw hydro electric plant on site.
Walter — Google review
Magic short walk for the family up the Falls. Steep in sections, but a well kept track. Toilet facilities too. Nice and close to town for a lunch stop after the walk. Loads of options there. Also a great park for the kids too.
Christian C — Google review
Always an amazing experience. I have been to the falls 4-5 times and it never fails to bring a smile on my face. If you can do a bit of hike you should go to the top of the fall as the experience there is really amazing and the views to love for. However if you are kids or don’t have much time then just a short walk to the viewing platform and you would love the fall.
Richa N — Google review
Best waterfall we have been too! There is about 20 car spaces in the car park, my advice is go early otherwise you will be parking further down the road and walking more. Toilet on site and only about 2 minute walk on flat ground from car park to viewing platforms to see the waterfall. There are several other trails for those who want the extra adventure, we took one to the top of the waterfall, about 15min up and 15min down, take care on the muddy track and wear appropriate footwear. The sound, the views, the smell all just incredible, our 9yr old handled it very easy and we saw some elderly people also doing the hike to the top. If you have read this than you need to be in your car already and going :)
Brendan — Google review
It's so beautiful here , the creek with its clear water running from the waterfall, the nature sounds it's a very peaceful place to visit . It is about a 45 min hike if you're going all the way to the top of the waterfall.
Sarah — Google review
Beautiful waterfall, best scene from below but definitely worth the 800m-hike to the top of the falls for good views and fresh water. Get there before 11am to avoid crowds.

Mountain peak
Lake Mountain, located just 21 kilometers east of Marysville, is Melbourne's nearest alpine resort. The mountain summit reaches 1,433 meters and offers 2,400 hectares of skiable terrain during the snow season. There are also 37 kilometers of ski trails and 3 toboggan slopes. In the off-season, visitors can enjoy activities like biking and hiking while admiring the vibrant wildflowers that bloom in summer.
That was my first time going to a snow mountain, and let me tell you, it was an incredible experience. The moment I laid my eyes on the majestic white peaks, I felt a rush of excitement and wonder. The air was crisp and cold, making me feel fully alive. As I stepped onto the glistening snow, I couldn't help but feel a childlike joy bubbling up inside me. It was a whole new world, unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The landscape was adorned with a pristine blanket of snow, creating a picturesque scene that seemed straight out of a postcard. With each step I took, the snow crunched beneath my boots, and I couldn't resist the urge to make a snowball and toss it playfully at my friend. Laughter echoed through the mountains as we engaged in a friendly snowball fight, forgetting all our worries and embracing the moment. We decided to try skiing, and as I strapped on the skis, a mix of anticipation and nervousness filled my heart. With a little guidance, I found my balance and glided down the slopes, feeling an exhilarating rush of adrenaline. The wind whipped against my face, and the sensation of speed made me feel alive and free. As the day went on,

Nice short 2hr drive from Melbourne to experience the snow. There was a nice walk you can also do!
Thomas T — Google review
A great drive with winding road through jungle uphill makes different experience but it was amazing journey. The entrance fee for the Lake mountain 60$ little expensive but many people visit there. Restaurant clean but expensive than normal. Breathtaking views of the area. Not so pleasant experience for me.
ていさです — Google review
Went up to lake mountain for a snow trip and was extremely disappointed. It’s now very small and controlled. Extremely expensive and not worth the drive. There are 3 set areas for tobogganing, which is $40 per toboggan, and you can’t share a toboggan with anyone else. This wasn’t monitored very well and they passed out toboggans to everyone entering the area which was disappointing. You used to be able to come up and go as you please, with massive areas filled with snow. But now it’s sectioned out with only one ‘play area’ which is just soft snow. Very disappointing with all the changes they’ve made. The cafe was actually quite nice, and super big, with quite a lot of variety. Only thing they didn’t have was iced drinks, but that makes sense I’m just a crazy person! The staff all around were lovely and very helpful. Won’t be returning.

First ever snow run.what an amusing place to be with family.kids were delighted with the fun we had here.close to Melbourne and reasonably priced.you gotta be really careful with the road conditions.narrow and winding roads with ice and snow.
Nabindra T — Google review
Nice place for a snow trip if you are planning your trip well. Do not recommend the weekends on school holidays. And the management is also doesn’t have much idea to control crowd. Minimal number of shuttle buses from the parking to the resort which will make you stand & wait in the extreme weather for 20-30 mins. Up at the resort facilities are good , kids will enjoy the place and the cafe serves some hot finger food as well. Take entry tickets well in advance to avoid disappointment.
Jesto J — Google review
If there's enough snow. It's also worth going. Because it is closest to Melbourne😆, July is the most suitable time👍
JUI-I W — Google review
Driving to Lake Mountain is a delight, unfortunately the prices are ridiculous. You have to pay 67.00 just to drive into the park , then if you want... you have to buy a ticket to enjoy some fun with your child or grand child. It's suppose to be a family Mountain for kids to have fun with there familys not a ripped off.

Bruno's Art and Sculpture Garden, situated on Falls Road near the town center, is a fascinating and distinct destination. For a cash payment of $10 per adult, visitors can explore the gardens adorned with approximately 160 sculptures. The amount of effort invested in this popular attraction is evident from its meticulous design. Notably, it is located amidst a lush rainforest environment, adding an enchanting touch to the experience.
Amazing place to visit. Adults $10 wk days, $15 wk ends. Children cheaper. Little ones free I think. Take as long as you want to walk around garden. I took an hour or more. Sit and chill in there, or speed through. But I wouldn't speed through. You'd miss too much. 193 sculptures, some hidden in trees etc. Highly recommend. Xx
Rebeckah O — Google review
Bruno is a busy man!! I first came here with my family years and years ago, not long after the Black Saturday Fires. Bruno was in the progress of rebuilding his beautiful sculpture garden. I have returned in 2025 with my partner, and we were both so impressed with how he has recreated the garden of sculptures. It is absolutely stunning. The sculptures are incredibly detailed and there are hundreds! You’ll find Bruno in the gallery of paintings, chatting to each and every guest or wandering through the garden to find other guests he may have missed. I loved hearing his story of rebuilding and repairing all the sculptures after the fires. You can see his wit, humour and resilience reflected throughout.

Amazing! This is a must see! My partner and I saw this on a whim and my gosh, it did not disappoint. We travelled 2.5hrs to get here and it took our breath away. We took our time to take it all in and spent a few hours here. Amazing value for $30 entry. I am so impressed by not only the care made into every sculpture but the caretaking of the entire property. I can understand how much work goes into this place, every tree planted, every hose done up, and the long hours of sculpting. But your work is seen, it’s moving, it’s beautiful and enjoyed. I also loved seeing the photos that showed the damage done by a previous fire- it truly tells a story. We would have bought a few pieces of art inside but maybe we’ll come back on payday❤️ Thank you so much for today. ❤️

A must visit place if you’re driving along the Black Spur Drive / Yarra Ranges or stay over in Marysville. It’s only 2 mins drive from township, the owner couple welcomed us with detailed instructions and their beautiful crafted garden, which is also their residence. You can easily spent 2 hr here, you can find sculpture are well-blended into the nature landscape around it, and use of recyclable materials to form parts is another fun. Best about this place - it’s growing! The owner making new sculptures as we walk bypass the in-house studio, which I’m sure more additions are coming. It’s sad to see the photo of damage by the Black Friday Bushfire, and glad to see the owners and nature has bounced back from the tragic event.

Very welcoming owners! Kids absolutely loved the magical journey. From “Mary Lisa” to “Sleeping Beauty”, all the creative paintings and sculptures within this fairytale! I’d say this is a must-visit in Marysville!

Playground
Gallipoli Park is a family-friendly destination located at the end of the town center, offering a pleasant walking experience and a playground by the river with swings and a flying fox. The park features ample shaded areas, BBQ spots, grassy knolls for picnics, and pathways for leisurely strolls. It also includes a beautiful memorial playground dedicated to the victims of the 2012 bushfire, featuring stunning trails, bridges, and activities for kids of all ages.
It's a great picnic spot. You can visit Keppel Falls in the morning and stop here for a good lunch in nature and relax a bit and go to Steavenson Falls. Please bring necessary goods for a picnic. Please take floor mats, hand tissues and water bottles and a waste cover to collect all the food waste and throw in the respective bins. Plenty of trees for shade. Else you can bring a big umbrella for shade. A creek of the falls which is continuous is another big attraction to the park.

Gallipoli Park, Marysville – A Heartfelt Family Escape in Nature Gallipoli Park in Marysville is one of those places that instantly puts you at ease. Nestled right in the heart of the town, this beautiful park blends peaceful nature, local history, and modern play areas – making it a perfect stop for families, couples, or anyone just needing a breath of fresh air. We visited on a sunny afternoon, and from the moment we stepped in, it was clear that this wasn’t just your average town park. It’s incredibly well looked after, with open green spaces, shaded picnic areas, walking paths, and a lovely calm vibe. There’s something very grounding about the place – maybe it’s the flowing Steavenson River that runs alongside it, or the strong sense of community that seems to linger in the air. The kids absolutely loved the Kin Playspace. It’s one of the best regional playgrounds we’ve come across – with flying foxes, swings, climbing ropes, and even a sandpit built into an elevated timber structure. It’s not only fun but also thoughtfully designed, with natural materials and plenty of shade. You can easily sit on one of the benches nearby and enjoy a coffee while the little ones burn off their energy. What makes Gallipoli Park even more special is its emotional depth. After the tragic Black Saturday bushfires in 2009, this park became a symbol of resilience and rebirth for the town. The Reflective Garden is a gentle, quiet area within the park where you can pause, reflect, and appreciate how far this small town has come. The “New Life” sculpture by local artist Bruno Torfs stands proudly, reminding everyone of Marysville’s spirit and strength. We also took a gentle walk around the lake and along the Steavenson River Trail. The paths are flat and easy, so they’re perfect for all ages – even with a pram. There are ducks in the water, wildflowers along the trail, and views that feel straight out of a painting. We didn’t feel rushed at all – it’s the kind of place where you’re meant to slow down. There are clean public toilets, a big rotunda (great for groups or rainy days), BBQs, and heaps of picnic spots – making it an ideal place to stop for lunch or a snack. It’s also just a short walk from the main street, so you can grab takeaway from one of the local cafés and enjoy it in the park. Overall, Gallipoli Park surprised us with how much it had to offer. It’s more than just a park – it’s a space for connection, reflection, play, and peace. Whether you’re visiting Marysville for the day or spending a few nights nearby, definitely make time for this little gem. It’s the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave.
Siddhartha M — Google review
Gallipoli Park is especially good for kids, especially if needing to blow off steam before or after a long drive. But it's an essential stop for anyone visiting Marysville, and beautifully commemorates the Black Saturday bushfires.
Paul R — Google review
We had a short walk through the park and were seriously impressed by the size of the park and the different options in how the park could be utilised. This park is definitely built for families and kids in mind. With bbq areas, grassy knolls to lay a picnic rug out with heaps of shade, pathways to take a stroll on, and swings and play equipment. I am sure I didn't even see everything. But I would recommend bringing the kids here for a driving break or a planned lunch or dinner. Even a birthday party would go down well here. There are toilets next to the carpark, which is a couple of steps away from the park itself. It's not far to any one of the multiple cafes or hotel to go and have a meal if you want. Hope you enjoy it.
Sara H — Google review
First visit. Quick visit for relaxing after lake mountain journey. It was a big park with alot of green area. Equiped with BBQ facility, playground, trails and pond and creek. It was near the toilet. The park had all the nature sound we need for relaxation. Definitely recommended.
Eddy H — Google review
Nice simple park with amenities and facilities for the family. It is a nice, pleasant short stroll around the little pond but what took our breath away was the little memorial at the corner of the park, dedicated to the Black Saturday event, and those that lost their lives during the event. It is so tragic to read about what happened that fateful day in Feb 2009, so this little memorial is an awesome way to remember what happened in the past.
Peter O — Google review
Great place to bring the kids. Lots of things for the kids to play on and heaps of areas to run wild and just have fun. Has clean pubilc toilets and ample shade areas with seats and tables. Lots of nice walks around the park with shops right across the road. Good parking is available in carpark and in surrounding areas.

Buxton Trout & Salmon Farm, located just a short drive from Marysville, is Australia's first commercial trout farm. With over 50 years of experience in breeding and processing trout on-site, the farm offers a unique opportunity for visitors to catch their own fish and either cook it on the BBQ at the farm or take it home. The natural bush setting provides a picturesque backdrop for a day out, with ample facilities including large undercover areas and BBQs.
Great place for a day out with the family. Beautiful setting with lakes and hills all around. Lots of trout and other fish. Easy to catch. The staff are really nice and they clean the fish you catch. You can either cook them there in the many BBQ and grills they have or if you want to take your catch home they pack the fish in ice for you. Just bring whatever spices you use for cooking fish ( I use some salt, ginger and lemon juice) and enjoy. Reasonable rates too.

Super fun for the kids and adults. Some suggestions: -store front need some refurbishment -water need more cleaning and occasionally there is a dead fish floating around -need more chairs for people to sit down

Lovely place to catch some trout! $12 entrance fee per adult gets u a fishing rod, bait and instructions. You pay for what you catch Prices are clearly indicated They will clean and gut the fish for you free of charge. And you can use the bbq to cook the fish !

Broadie was such a wonderful character to deal with. When we arrived from Melbourne to Buxton he was so welcoming towards our family. He did a great job helping us out to fish the right size of salmon. Once we were done he did such a great job to clean and pack the fish. We were so touched by his kindness towards our kids - he gave them beautiful presents and kids loved them. Broadie and Buxton team we will definitely come back again. Highly recommended.

This place is great! Been twice now, they provide everything you could possibly need and prepare the fish ready to take home and cook. Its cheap to enter, pricey for the fish but worth it for the experience of catching it yourself. Lots of fish and almost guaranteed to catch something.

Fabulous and fun Trout farm with a toddler, he had an absolute great day. The staff at the front , he was amazing, and very helpful and showed my toddler how to clean and cut the fish and nothing was too much trouble for him. Thank again, and we hope to visit again soon :)

Wow, what an amazing place it is! One of my friends suggested this spot to me - a bug thanks to him.. 😊 I've attached heaps of photos and videos to help people know the beauty of this place.. You pay for the fishes you catch.. the rates are not bad.. as on 11-Mar-23, Salmon was about $32 ish per kg and trouts were about $23 ish/kg.. Only thing that I didn't like was they also charge an entry fee which extra to the fishes you catch - but can't reduce the stars for this.. The staff is excellent and well trained.. We'll be regular visitors here...
Vivek W — Google review
Spent half a day here with a group of friends and had a great time! Prices are fair and they clean and pack your fish for you. Just pay for what you catch. There trouts (rainbow and brook) and salmon to fish. Salmon takes a bit more patience as we found out! Everything you need to fish is provided. There are also barbecues that you can choose to cook up your catch!

Nestled in the picturesque region of Marysville & Narbethong, Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is a versatile destination that offers an array of activities throughout the year. In winter, families can revel in snow play and tobogganing, while couples can enjoy stunning vistas and comfortable lodge accommodations. As the weather warms up, the resort transforms into a paradise for mountain biking and hiking enthusiasts.
Oh my gosh!!!! It was snowing when we reached. It's beauty is mesmerizing and walking trails were just awesome. All covered with fresh snow. Such a great spot for a fun snow day! ❄️ The views are amazing and the staff are super friendly. Easy drive from Melbourne and a perfect family getaway. Will definitely come back!
Aakriti A — Google review
This is one of the closest to Melbourne snow experience resort during winter (June/July/August). Not very big areas to slide with toboggan but for kids the two sections will surely attract but cost is $40 for adults with a child included and if you go solo then it is $30. parking areas are limited and may be struggle during school holidays or weekends so target to reach early. There are enough eateries to enjoy hot foods and coffee. Toilets and picnic areas are there.
Nihar M — Google review
The snow was amazing. This was my first ever snow experience in lake mountain and Coming from the tropics myself, I’ve always found myself wanting to see snow and have always been fascinated by the white sheen. The snow seemed to have fallen heavy the previous day, the day we went had mild shower but no snowfall, yet there was plenty of fresh snow for us to enjoy. One thing which I felt was a rip off was the tobaggon pass where they said most runs were closed except for the main one as it was a week day and yet charged us a regular fee? But apart from that we thoroughly enjoyed our day.
That G — Google review
Lake Mountain Alpine Resort – A Perfect Family Day Out in the Snow If you’re looking for a snow-filled escape that’s close to Melbourne and perfect for the whole family, Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is an absolute gem. Just a two-hour drive from the city, it offers a surprisingly magical alpine experience without the hassle of an overnight stay or long-distance travel. We visited during the snow season, and right from the moment we arrived, it felt like a winter wonderland. The drive up was scenic, and once we hit the snowline, the kids were buzzing with excitement. The resort is well-organised, and parking was pretty straightforward – just get there early to beat the crowds, especially on weekends or school holidays. What really stood out was how family-friendly the whole setup is. The toboggan slopes were a hit with our little ones – and let’s be honest, the adults had just as much fun! There are separate areas for tobogganing, snow play, and skiing, which makes it easy to find a spot that suits your group’s vibe. We spent hours building snowmen, sliding down the hills, and just soaking up the snowy landscape. For families who want a bit more adventure, there are snowshoeing options and easy walking trails like the Leadbeaters Walk and Bjarne Dahl Memorial Walk. They’re short, scenic, and accessible – even with a stroller, which was a bonus for us. The walks wind through peaceful alpine forests, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot some wildlife or get a glimpse of the iconic snow gums. After all that running around, we grabbed lunch at The Heights Café. It’s casual but warm and welcoming, with enough choices to keep kids and grownups happy – think hot chocolates, pies, and plenty of snacks. The indoor seating area was a lifesaver when we needed to warm up and dry off. One thing to note: you’ll need to pre-book your entry online and check the daily snow updates before heading up. Snow gear hire is available on-site, but if you already have your own, it saves time and money. Although there’s no accommodation on the mountain itself, Marysville is just a short drive away and has plenty of cosy places to stay if you want to turn it into a weekend trip. It’s also a lovely little town worth exploring in its own right. Overall, Lake Mountain is a top pick for a family day in the snow – safe, well-managed, and packed with fun. Whether it’s your kid’s first time seeing snow or you’re just chasing that alpine air for the day, it ticks all the boxes. We’ll definitely be back! PS: Entry fee $67 for car group of 5 . And varies according to the size and number of vehicles

Felt pretty ripped off on this trip. Spend on a day tour for this. 😂 The whole experience there was kind of comical. My husband and I were laughing so hard at how silly we seemed to be looking lost at the amount of chaos! Not enough space to go around, don’t even talk about sleigh-ing. Staff were generating fake ice snow at that point 😂😂 We ended up going for a walk through the summit to kill time. Oh, the canteen food taste like trash and cost a bomb. We did had a great laugh at our trip failure at the very least.

We recently visited Lake mountain Alpine resort with family and friends. This is an amazing and well maintained place. I highly recommend making ticket reservations before getting to the destination. There is dosa hut restaurant inside the place where we can get some snacks and Indian food. Also this place has fun activities in snow for kids and adults. Plenty of parking space available Wheelchair is accessible but needs to be very careful as the snow area is very slippery Wearing right winter clothing and shoes are very much required. Place is open only between 8am to 3 pm from Thursday to Monday
Aishwarya B — Google review
I love playing snow here, the area is huge, you could explore it by your self. There are several spot to play free tobogan and to play snow. The playing snow area beside the main tobogan is very good, clean and have a nice view.
Rafael A — Google review
Very disappointed with our visit. The place was overcrowded and poorly organized, especially the play area. They charge $30 per person regardless of whether you’re actually playing with a toboggan or not — which I found completely unreasonable. We couldn’t even use our own toboggans freely, and there were no other activities available apart from three small toboggan areas. That’s all. To make it worse, the toilets were very dirty , clearly not maintained well despite the large number of visitors. The biggest issue for me was the unfair pricing. Charging every single person the full fee, even if they’re not participating, is not right. Overall, not worth the money or the time.

Keppel Falls is a picturesque destination located in the Yarra Ranges National Park. The falls, named after the Keppel brothers who settled here in the 1880s, offer a breathtaking sight as they cascade down from Mount Margaret's southern slopes. This stunning natural wonder is particularly impressive during spring, when the melting winter snows intensify their beauty.
Gorgeous falls, and good walking track that was well kept. About 2km return, fairly easy but some part are a bit steep, wet and slippery. In June 2023 the falls were pumping, the river was full, and every thing was magnificently green!
Montanna — Google review
Easy walk to the falls. Path is generally well maintained and flat, some areas have low hanging branches and plants. Do not go on a wet day as there are an abundance of land leeches.
Jerri Z — Google review
Beautiful falls, well off the beaten track. Lady Talbot Drive was closed to vehicles so the trek up there was longer than anticipated. Not a lot of shade before you arrive at the Keppel track. The Keppel track is quite overgrown due to the road entry points being closed. We saw a snake during the walk to the falls. I also had a leech incident. I wore shorts but there are brambles and other prickly bushes, my legs were covered in bites (March flies) and scratched. Wear pants! But all worth it to see these beautiful falls. I was out for four hours and didn't see any other groups or people. Reception is also limited. No toilets.
Keira G — Google review
Just a short bumpy drive from Marysville. The walking track was narrow but the kids enjoyed it
Kellie-Marie C — Google review
Excellent waterfalls, you can come as close to the water as you please. Easy walk, 2km return. Watch for the snakes as there is no shortage of them there. Road was closed beforehand but it's open now, easy one and do not require 4x4 in dry conditions.

This place is magic. A walk of 1 hour and half where you deeply connect with nature and find incredible spots to appreciate the green rainforest.
Alejandro B — Google review
It takes 20-40 minutes return from car park. Easy to walk along the trail.
Steve G — Google review
Keppel Falls is a long set of cascades that tumbles down the mountain side in the headwaters of the Taggerty River. I estimate around 150 meters of cascade so in a sense not a waterfall but water falling. About a kilometer to walk to, so 2k all up. Track is mostly level with nothing to challenge the elderly. Track was ploughed up a fair bit on our day, Culprits are lyrebirds, we did spot a couple. Nice bush with plenty of ferns and tree ferns along the way. If you are keen on fungi, big variety all shapes and colors. At the falls there was a platform jutting out over the river so easy to take photos. Well worth the while visiting the falls if you have an hour or two to spare.

Taggerty River Cascades is a stunning natural attraction fed by the waters from Lake Mountain. The cascades feature large granite boulders and pockets of rainforest, creating a picturesque setting for visitors. A winding path leads to the cascades, passing through ancient rainforests with trees over 300 years old. The area is also home to attractions like Phantom Falls, Keppel Falls, and The Beeches Rainforest Walk.
Beautiful area with multiple mini falls. We went during a hot march weekend and there were plenty of swimming holes to be found. It's a relatively easy 5 - 10 minute walk from the road either way

Very nice and quick walk! There is also the option to hike up to The Beeches (~1.3km if I recall correctly) from here.

Taggerty River Cascades, River, Taggerty VIC It's a beautiful selection of waterfalls and cascades next to Marysville, Victoria Keppel Falls, Phantom Falls and Taggerty Cascades. Access via 10-12 km gravel road, ATM well maintained, narrow at times. I'd say 2wd can easily access it in dry conditions. That great part was closed for about 3 years but now is finally open and it gives so many photo opportunities. This trip I spent 3+ hours wandering around but realistically it's 20-30% of all possible angles and photo ideas and it's only Taggerty cascades. The walk is 600 meters one-way number of steps and partly muddy. Anyhow IMHO highly recommended the rest is up to you. 😉
Stan F — Google review
Lovely little walk to see what essentially is a small waterfall. Fairly easy walk, in June 2023 it was very wet, green and cold! Be sure to rug up, and be careful of leeches.
Montanna — Google review
I often arrive at a waterfall and think this is really a cascade but in this case it's opposite. Parts of the cascades are more like waterfalls. You have two options at the carpark. Go upstream which is ascent or downstream which is decent. We took both options but not at the same time. You have boulders, cascades, ferns, beech trees, eucalyptus and fungi. Probably one of the most scenic areas I been in. So, the cascades cover around 300 meters up and down and there is a longer walk there which we didn't do. Have an hour or two to spend soaking up the natural you won't be disappointed.
John J — Google review
Great place to come and look at Taggerty Cascades. The track can get very wet and muddy with some steps to get down to the falls.
Peter L — Google review
Amazing rain forest. The waterfall and the dense vegetation around create an atmosphere like a tropical forest, wet and rich. Is a easy trail with a lot of steps and some tree in the way.
Natalia F — Google review
Really wonderful set of falls. The best photography is done upstream of the Lady Talbot Road bridge. A little hard to get to at the moment because the road is closed again due to fallen trees. I imagine Parks will reopen the road after winter.

Recently reopened. You can drive all the way to the trail, and take a short, though steep, walk to the falls. Spectacularly beautiful, we saw a lyrebird on the track. The bridge is fully repaired, and the path had recently been cleared.

A decent drive up a well-maintained gravel road, then a short but at times steep climb up a well-formed single track for a beautiful waterfall that you can’t see until you’re on top of it. Other reviewers noted it has been closed for some time; it is definitely open now and has a new bridge!
Shaun R — Google review
Walk is easy and pretty well maintained. Road in is accessible with 2wd

At only 800 meter return, its not a long walk but definitely worth the effort. Although some people may find it a little steep going to reach the falls proper.

Tara — Google review
The road is currently closed 3km before Falls, and has been for a while. They are pretty but very small indeed. Also, the path is wildly overgrown with a smashed bridge. There is almost no view of the falls at any point, even at the end. It looks like the intention of Parks Victoria is to let it return to nature, which it indeed says on the sign.

Yarra Ranges National Park, located about 80 km northeast of Melbourne, is a stunning rainforest park offering a range of activities such as hiking, cycling, and skiing. The park encompasses the picturesque towns of Healesville, Warburton, and Marysville in the Yarra Valley region. Marysville itself is surrounded by rolling hills, forests, and waterfalls. Despite being devastated by bushfires in 2009, the town is steadily being rebuilt.
Incredible space with some neat “young” California redwoods. Truly beautiful forest next to the river. The water was beautiful and it was so refreshing to be in nature in this way.

Yaarra Ranges National Park is a truly isolated gem, perfect for those who enjoy peace and quiet away from the usual tourist crowds. The park is surrounded by dense forests, making it an ideal spot for camping and connecting with nature. There isn’t a lot to do in terms of activities, but that’s exactly what makes it special – it’s the perfect place to switch off, relax, and soak in the natural surroundings. Whether you want to sit around a campfire, go for a short walk among the tall trees, or just enjoy the fresh air, the park offers a calming escape. It’s especially enjoyable if you visit with a group. Sharing the experience of camping in such a remote and tranquil setting makes it even more memorable. If you’re looking for adventure-packed attractions, this may not be the place for you. While the drive up may be challenging on an unsealed road, the unparalleled views make it worth the effort, especially at sunset.
A short drive from Marysville along a dirt road that would be great for 2WD but not impassable. We got there for sunrise, but the sun didn’t come up for at least 15 minutes after the time on my app. Great views.

Keppel Lookout has a great view of Marysville and the mountains beyond. The viewing platform is nicely designed and you may have it entirely to yourself, especially on a weekday. The lookout is accessible by car but the drive on the unsealed road is hairy in places, especially if you're in a sedan or a small car. Go slow and be prepared for your vehicle to get dusty. But is the view worth it? I think so.

Amazing spot to get some awesome photos. A bit slippery at the culvert, but the trek is very short. Some of Victoria's logging history. No doubt once a thriving little village but owing to the erosion of climate and time, not much is left. A serene little place and somewhat spooky when there on one's own and the weather has closed in. A logging road still runs through and out the back into wild remote back country. Wonderful trail, I did it the reverse route starting Marysville side so had some steep climbs to start, but after the Lookout it was downhill the whole way. Stunning views and lovely flora and fauna. I didn't see a single person the entire trail and it was blissful
Olly — Google review
The way up the mountain was not well paved thus quite bumpy, however the view is great, worth to visit in conjunction with the waterfall nearby.
E. L — Google review
It was a good hike of 11km. Very easy to find your way as the trail is clearly marked and even detours provided in places where trees may have fallen. It’s a walk through beautiful Yarra ranges with amazing views
Minoli T — Google review
I really enjoyed walking this trail! I was lucky to go on a lovely sunny day, although it was 35 degrees. Do note that the trail does has a lot of natural shade: I went on a hot day and I didn't find it unbearable. The track itself is well kept and very easy to follow along. Each 'milestone' (e.g. the Keppel trail lookout) has a map that clearly indicates where you are, where you're heading and how far you've walked which I found super handy as I did this walk solo and without any phone reception. The signs say it's a 3-4 hour walk: it took me just over 2 hours at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops for snacks and photos. I will say do be sure to bring food and tonnes of water: you'll need it. As well as a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Do be mindful of snakes too: it's Australia afterall!

The Marysville & District Historical Society offers an extraordinary glimpse into the past, providing a wealth of fascinating information and artifacts. Within their premises, visitors can explore a remarkable 50s Hollywood film made in Melbourne, peruse a room filled with historical records, trinkets, books, photos, and other relics. This treasure trove of knowledge offers extensive details about the local area and its surroundings. The shed outside showcases an impressive collection of antiquated farm equipment that adds to the allure.
Amazing history here. I actually learned so much stuff. There was a huge 50s Hollywood film made in and around Melbourne that I had no idea about. A room full of historical records to peruse. Plenty of old trinkets, books, photos and items from history. Lots of info about the area and surrounds. The shed outside has lots of cool old farm equipment. Definitely worth a visit while here. We spent about an hour here but could do longer if you wanted to look further into the historical records. Great for people wanting to learn about their family or town history.

Well worth a visit. Knowledgeable friendly staff. Ask to see the "fire video", very sobering.
John L — Google review
Really worth a visit. It’s housed in one of the few buildings that survived the 2009 bushfires and there’s plenty of info (and archives) to read and keep you busy as well as a shed and rose gardens. It was manned by a husband and wife team that were a wealth of information.
Gee G — Google review
A step back in time. Remembering the bush fires of 2009 which came to be called Black Saturday. View collected video footage of that event from personal as well as TV collections. Other important memorabilia of the people of Marysville also represented here.

Toolangi State Forest is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. It offers a mix of challenging tracks for off-road driving, scenic trails for cycling, and picturesque views. The forest boasts lush greenery, towering trees, and stunning landscapes that make every journey through it unforgettable. Visitors can enjoy activities such as 4x4 adventures, scenic driving, and hiking in this natural haven.
Stunning forest with fresh creek. We didn't see the platypus but the information board mentions there being some. Lots of ferns along the trail and some beautiful fungus!
Momo C — Google review
The sculpture walk is in need of attention, but it is pleasant to walk in nature. The Yea river walk is so tranquil, with some huge mountain ash
Russell S — Google review
Great place to visit for a day trip for a short walk in the forest. It was a hot day when we visited, but in the forest it was cool, comfortable and totally refreshing. Well maintained pathways and a thriving ecosystem with vibrant array of ferns and trees that are really old. Parking lot does get full on great days. Highly recommended to get there early if possible.
Tushar K — Google review
Great place, close to Melbourne. Lots to explore and see. Free camping also. Lots of 4x4ing if you want or not. Thumb up if helpful please
Benjamin S — Google review
Bring your own water, food supplies unfortunately the town has no shops not even a coffee van. Fabulous walks throughout Toolangi State Park and toilets. To know Toolangi wasn't burnt in the bush fires is an experience in Victoria not to be missed. Tree canopies which grows forever prolific birdlife Wildlife habitats and walking trails ferns so tall..as a bush Walker it's fascinating lots of photos and overwhelming experience no one wants to miss Thankfully Jordan Crook and his work colleagues from Victorian National Parks Association arranged this exciting walk for myself and 49 other VNPA members.

Nice location not too far from Melbourne SE. Good 4x4 tracks with nice viewa . Tha water fall is nice atttraction with fair hike to the top. magnificent tall trees , nice bush and normal camping spots with toilet facility in some areas. The sculpture walk is ok sime 4x4 tracks get close by park victoria .

Small and easy trail. Was not well maintained. Fallen trees and was hard to follow walking trail. Most of the sculptures have fallen apart. The discovery centre was abandoned. No toilet facilities. But nice little forest, love the smell of eucalyptus.

Went for a stroll in Toolangi State Forest and came across the Toolangi Sculpture Trail. Most of the sculptures have decayed over the years but there were a few remaining. Pleasant bush walk exploring the history of the sculptures.

Hiking Trails
Cumberland Falls offers a stunning natural beauty with an amazing walk to the falls. The area is known for its leeches, so suitable clothing and good footwear are recommended. Despite some infrastructure damage, the terrain is manageable even after heavy rain. Visitors should be cautious on bridges and railings. The trail features river crossings on stepping stones and leads to Jebs pool, offering picturesque spots along the way.
The walk to the falls is amazing. Splendid natural beauty all around the place. There is no need to worry about snakes( although I came across a tiger snake hehe) Important thing to take a note of is to have suitable clothing as there are a lot of leeches in the area which are very annoying to get rid of.
Jay G — Google review
Went after a good rain and it was spectacular. Good terrain even with how wet it was but good footwear recommended. A fair amount of damage to infrastructure so be careful on bridges and railing. If you like my pictures follow rambling.life on instagram
Will K — Google review
Small waterfall short walk from the road but path overgrown. Nothing critical at all as myself been not a fit person made it easily there and back…:-)
Stan F — Google review
The walk is alright and a little steep on the way back, but the view of the waterfall is pretty weak due to the overgrown trees. However, the view of the landscape is beautiful. I actually walked off track to see these falls in person, and I'll say the risk is not worth the reward. Most of the waterfall is covered in fallen trees anyway. I don't encourage visitng the bottom of the falls. So obey the warning signs and stay away from the river. I'm only sharing incase someone wanted a proper view. Happy exploring!
Daniel P — Google review
You're not really able to see the full falls from the look out, but it's an easy walk to get there, through some beautiful woodland and it's still a nice view when you get there

Nice The toilets were bolted shut though... Path can get narrow and slightly difficult to traverse for the average joe but otherwise all good

The Big Culvert is a fascinating historical site located in the Yarra Ranges, which is worth visiting if you are in the area. Constructed over 150 years ago, this historic tunnel was built to prevent flooding by allowing water to flow. It remains in excellent condition and still serves its original purpose today. Nestled amidst a beautiful fern gully, it offers a short 50-meter walk that can be quite muddy, so remember to bring your gum boots.
A beautiful sight, just off the road, a short 100 m walk through a tiny jungle like muddy path. Wear appropriate footwear a leach got a hold of my foot & wanted to come home with me.
Kat T — Google review
Worth a visit if up that way. Historic tunnel built to allow water to flow back in the day as the road would often flood. Short 50 meter walk through a fern gully. Take your gum boots as can be quite muddy. Car park only allows a few cars
Angela B — Google review
Just amazing something built over 150 years ago, Is still in such wonderful condition and still serving the purpose of what it was built for. Very mystical, hidden amongst the ferns in the Yarra Ranges. A must see

If the weather hadn’t been wet it would’ve been better. Couldn’t walk through because it was muddy. At the end of the day, it’s a drain so I guess it serves its purpose.

The Yellow Dog Picnic Area is a delightful spot that families will adore. With its lush grassy expanse, it's perfect for enjoying a meal of fish and chips while the kids kick around a football. The soothing sounds of the nearby stream create a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal place to unwind. However, be mindful that this charming area can get busy during public holidays since it caters to one group at a time.
Kids loved eating their fish and chips. Nice grassed area where we had a kick of footy and the stream was lovely to listen to in background.

Nice little picnic area with a small stream. It’s a nice place to take your own lunch, away from the crowds. A shelter with 2 big picnic tables. Also a fire pit area. No rubbish bins provided so take your own rubbish home.

"Perfect spot for a peaceful picnic! Nestled amidst nature, this picnic area offers serene surroundings, ample shade from towering trees, and well-maintained facilities. Whether you're enjoying a family outing or a romantic escape, the picturesque setting and tranquil ambiance make it an ideal destination. Plus, clean restrooms and convenient parking make for a hassle-free experience. Highly recommended for a relaxing day outdoors!"

This place is a hidden gem and very serene. Not many people know about this so its never crowded. We had an amazing time cooking out and spending a great day here. The fresh water views from the Taggerty River add the peace and calmness to the soul. Its a perfect stop if you want to go to Keppel falls and steavenson falls. Its close to the Galipoli park. So if you want to use the restrooms your closest will be the galipoli park ones. Its a Natural setting and in summers, it will be a good place to swim in shallow river while picnicing.
Ayesha K — Google review
Such a great little spot to stop by the Stevenson river, if you’re on the way to Buxton or going into Marysville from there. You will find a picnic table and it’s often a very quiet spot if you want a nice place to have some lunch or a snack away from all the usual spots in town. There is no toilet here but you’re only about a 5km drive away from town where the public toilet is located across from the main playground and the lolly shop is just across the road. There is space for a few cars to park right next to this little picnic ground area so would be a great meet up spot as well.

Cute little 'village green' sandwiched between the Police Station and MiRa - Marysville's tourism and arts precinct. Toilets close by. Picnic tables, drinking water fountains, informal seating and tiny community garden beds. Some sheltered seating. There's even live music on Thursday evenings in Spring and Summer. Great place to eat a picnic from local regional businesses!
