Punta Ristola Leuca is a stunning rocky outcrop and seafront lookout, marking the southernmost point of Italy's 'heel.' Recently renovated, it offers a breathtaking view of the sea and landscape of Leuca. The area is adorned with impressive sculptures in Lecce stone by artist Mario Calcagnile, including the striking Triptych of Transcendence.
Large free parking place in the street , easy acces by foot , nice place to take photos , no acces to the sea because of the rocks so you need to be very carefully, there is a cave with easy acces that goes down to the sea , no equipment needed, I recommend visiting nearby MUSEO CIVICO DEL CORALLO BIANCO, free entrance

The Santuario di Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae is a stone church dating back to the 18th century, built on the site of an ancient temple overlooking the town and harbor. It stands alongside the famous 157-foot-tall lighthouse and offers stunning views of Marina di Leuca, with its charming coast dotted with oleanders and Art Nouveau villas. The basilica was fortified in the 1700s as protection against Turkish and Saracen assaults.
Beautiful location, great structures, best view to the open sea and town below. Easy parking. Food places. At the end of the heel of Italy. On a sunny day, what a view. Loved the visit. Would love to stay nearby next time around.
G J — Google review
History embedded. Love how simplistic the church is inside without all the extravaganza.
Mouni M — Google review
This Basilica, named "The End of Land" is built at the southernmost tip of the Italian heel, at a place where the Adriatic meets the Ionian sea. The 18c Church with adjacent Monastery is on top of a hill above the town, imo a very average one, both outside and inside. Many souvenir stalls around further ruin the feeling, making it a very touristy place. From the Church terrace is really a great seas view, but that's it - a max 45 min visit including the time for finding parking which is really an issue in August peak season
Dejan B — Google review
Busy but still a sense of tranquility and spiritual calm. Easy to access all area even for the less able bodied. Massive car parking space . Small stall holders selling a wide variety of goods at fairly reasonable prices . Small but busy cafe selling a good selection of pasties and snacks busy but worthwhile. Take your time to unwind here and treat it all as a bit of a pilgrimage at the joining of the two seas?

According to a popular legend, Punta Meliso is a shepherd who, in ancient times, refused the courtship of a mermaid so as not to betray his beloved. There are gates and barbed wire and a private property. Punta Meliso promontory (the ancient Promontorium lapygium or Sallentinum) is the southeastern extremity of Italy — traditionally considered the lowest point of the geographical "heel" of Italian peninsula, as well as the meeting point of the waters from the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea.

(Translated by Google) Reaching the tip of Italy, where the two seas meet, isn't easy unless you're equipped with sneakers/hiking shoes: the rocks are dangerous and sharp. But it's a great satisfaction to be at the tip of our boot. After some local information, I correct myself: Punta Ristola, just a little further west, is the true extreme point of the boot. A "battle" of just a few meters... Waterfalls
The Monumental Waterfall of Santa Maria di Leuca, located at Punta Meliso, marks the culmination of the Apulian aqueduct and is commemorated by a Roman column. This impressive structure includes a monumental staircase that seamlessly blends into the natural surroundings. Dating back to 1939, this architectural marvel spans over 250 meters with a vertical drop of approximately 120 meters, releasing around 1,000 liters of water per second directly into the sea.
In the famous Santa Maria di Leuca, the extreme edge of Puglia and in particular of Salento, there are still works dating back to the fascist period such as the monumental waterfall at Santa Maria di Leuca. This is the case of the monumental waterfall, an imposing work, finished in 1939; which boasts a length of over 250 meters and a vertical drop of about 120 meters, with a flow rate of 1,000 liters per second that ends directly in the sea. The waterfall represents the last term of an even more sumptuous work, that is that of the Apulian Aqueduct; the greatest infrastructure of water-drinking supply to European level, constructed during the first decades of the twentieth century; consisting of a series of ‘trunks’ thus allowing water supply to over 300 municipalities. Santa Maria di Leuca Perfectly set between the rock and the Mediterranean maquis, its staircase ends with the Roman column, installed by Benito Mussolini. Narrow between two wide flights of stairs that with their 300 steps allow visitors to admire the top; the work is lit only in particular periods that are concentrated especially in the hottest months of the year.

(Translated by Google) The monumental waterfall of the Apulian aqueduct is located in Santa Maria di Leuca, right at the foot of the Sanctuary of Finibus Terrae. It marks the end of the grand aqueduct built in the 1930s to bring water to southern Salento. Two stone staircases descend symmetrically down the hillside to the port. On the day of my visit, the waterfall wasn't flowing, but the trail left by the water was clearly visible, allowing one to imagine its effect when activated. The place is peaceful and offers a beautiful view of the sea and the port of Leuca.

Amazing place. Sooo clean water. Incredibile.
Martin B — Google review
The area is known for its natural beauty and is a popular destination for outdoor activities. The spot is little bit risky, but possible. The spot is worth a visit. Very suggestive and large cave has a rock formation inside which acts as a supporting column of the enormous cliff of the natural "roof" of the cave. There are many boatmen. Continuing the lovers' cave you can swim by entering onto a small beach. Its name derives from its resemblance to the head of a dragon which can be seen when entering the boat on the left wall. The series of caves and ravines leaves you speechless. The cave is so called because the rock inside vaguely resembled the shape of a lying dragon, with its tail on the left and its head on the right. Furthermore. Dragon's Cave, very beautiful like the others to visit on a boat excursion, evaluate carefully and find out about the caves that make you visit .

Located on the seafront of Leuca, Torre dell'Omomorto is a beautiful watchtower dating back to around 1500. Also known as Torre dell'Omo Morto, it gets its name from the discovery of bone remains inside. Although in a semi-degraded state and not open to visitors, it offers a picturesque sight for photos from the street.
Its main function was to spot Turkish ships approaching Salento. The shade of the bridge provides fresh air to refresh the body from a lot of sunbathing. Nearby there are two small restaurant bars and a bridge. This is the only true monument of the place .It owes its name to the discovery of human bone remains inside it. It is also called the old tower . The shade of the bridge provides fresh air to refresh the body from a lot of sunbathing. Atypical and powerful tower, it is classified as a hammer tower due to its defensive fortress characteristics. It has considerable dimensions, the escarpment base has walls almost 5 meters thick and a diameter of approximately 16 metres. Inside this, four troughs opened.

(Translated by Google) On the seafront of Leuca stands this beautiful watchtower from around 1500, also called Torre dell'Omo morta, which owes its name to the findings of bone remains inside it. Kept in a semi-degraded state and it is impossible to visit it but a photo can be taken from the street. (Translated by Google) Watchtower from around 1500 which owes its name to the findings of bone remains inside it. The monument has its own reason, it's a shame that it isn't valorised at all, in fact underneath it, despite the sharp bend on which it stands, there is wild parking in the summer, plus it's left in a state of decay, it's a shame that the municipality doesn't valorise it (Original) Torre di avvistamento del 1500 circa che deve il suo nome a ritrovamenti di resti ossei al suo interno.

The boat excursion offered by Leuca in Barca provides a pleasant one-hour trip in either direction. It is recommended to visit early morning for the best experience. The rocks and caves can be appreciated from the boats, and the boat captain/guide speaks English. The excursion offers an amazing time as visitors get to explore all of the caves and even swim in a dark little cave for 20 minutes. Despite being a short trip, the boat appears clean, tidy, and equipped with necessary facilities.
Nice 1hr boat trip in either direction. Best time to visit early morning. Rocks, caves are best seen from boats. Boat captain / guide speaks English.

Nice atmosphere with a refreshing sea breeze. Great place for an evening walk!

We stayed here aboard our sailboat. Marina staff were friendly and approachable. Not much in terms of facilities (basic toilets and showers). Easy to access the town and walk along coast. Must walk along wooden walkway hugging coastline and up the 300 steps to the church and lighthouse at the top.

Well, it's a tourist port. Don't know why you could be interested in it, anyway it's well done and prepared, organized. The landscape is good, one side Leuca, the other the monumental waterfall with the lighthouse and the Cathedral. Like boats? Go there; like landscapes, sea, swimming and eating? Go around :)

Go visit the guy and girls at Gnu Diving. Very friendly and helpful. They were excellent with me and my son on our first ever scuba dive, couldn't have been better.

Marina was expensive for what it was. Left much to be desired but it's in key passage making location. The town itself is a delight. Very charming.

Great fun! We got to swim through some beautiful caves and enjoyed the sight from sea.

(Translated by Google) A truly beautiful and unexpected experience! The managers Antonio and Annapaola, with great passion and expertise, accompanied us on a surprising journey to discover shells and white coral. What struck us in particular was Annapaola's story: with her engaging narration she managed to immerse us in a universe we did not know, transforming each case into a story to listen to and each shell into a discovery. A place not to be missed, especially for those who love to be surprised by nature and the stories of those who guard it with love. (Original) Un'esperienza davvero bellissima e inaspettata!

(Translated by Google) This museum is truly beautiful, a pleasant walk to discover the sea and the wonders it contains. Unfortunately, many tourists may not notice or care about this cultural gem of Leuca, but I think that certain places should be visited, encouraged, experienced. Very kind Mr. Antonio, owner of the museum, who offered himself as a guide to explain all the natural riches he collected. Protecting and enhancing local products is important, also and above all when it comes to culture and nature!

(Translated by Google) There are two different rooms, one with fossils and shells. It's nice and can be explored in 15 minutes. If you need to go to the restroom, you'd better leave and find a café.
