Palazzo Trinci is a Renaissance-era residence turned museum that showcases local archaeology and medieval history. Located in the heart of the city, it was once the home of the noble Trinci family who ruled from 1305 to 1539. The palace now houses a museum complex with richly decorated rooms, featuring collections from the Civic Art Gallery and exhibits on the history of the territory in its Archaeological Museum and Multimedia Museum of Tournaments, Jousts, and Games.
A hidden gem in the heart of Foligno. Unassuming at first… until you are inside! Do yourself a favour and don’t miss out in this one. There’s a bit of everything for you here: art, architecture, archaeology, history… It’s much bigger than it seems from the outside, so budget a few hours and enjoy.

The Foligno Cathedral, dedicated to San Feliciano, suffered damage from seismic events in 1997 and 2006, rendering it unusable. However, its external beauty still captivates visitors. The Umbrian Romanesque facade boasts an impressive portal sculpted by masters Rodolfo and Binello. The cathedral's construction dates back to 1113-1201 on the site where the patron saint of the city was martyred in 251 AD.
Today we were just able to see this cathedral from the outside but the architecture and ornamentation are beautiful and very interesting. I especially find the various lion statues to have particular personalities. I would love to learn more and have a more thorough visit

Dedicated to Saint Felician: It is dedicated to the patron saint of the city, Saint Felician, the first bishop of Foligno, martyred in 251 AD. The cathedral stands on the site of his burial. * Ancient Origins: Built on the site of a previous basilica, its origins date back to the 9th-10th centuries, with a first significant renovation in 1133. * Witness to History: It has undergone numerous restorations and modifications over the centuries, reflecting the historical and artistic changes of the region. Architecture: * Double Façade: It features two distinct façades: the main, simpler one, and a second façade overlooking Piazza della Repubblica, considered a jewel of Romanesque architecture from 1201, the work of masters Rodolfo and Binello. This façade is adorned with sculptures with classical references, a portal with profiles of the sun, moon, and stars, and internal arches decorated with the signs of the zodiac. * Different Styles: The cathedral is an example of the fusion of architectural styles, from Romanesque to Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical, the result of the various phases of construction and restoration. * Neoclassical Interior: The interior was radically transformed in the Neoclassical style between 1772 and 1819 according to a project by Giuseppe Piermarini. * 16th-Century Dome: It has an elegant 16th-century dome, the work of Giuliano di Baccio D'Agnolo. * Romanesque Crypt: It preserves the crypt, the oldest part of the church, with architectural remains from the pre-Romanesque period. Art and Culture: * Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament: Noteworthy is the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, built in 1527 by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, with frescoes by Vespasiano Strada and Baldassare Croce depicting the life of Saint Felician. * Silver Statue of Saint Felician: Inside, there is a valuable silver statue of the patron saint. * Baroque Baldachin: Above the high altar stands a carved and gilded wooden baldachin from 1698, inspired by Bernini's baldachin in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. * Diocesan Capitular Museum: Adjacent to the cathedral, in the Palazzo delle Canoniche, is the Diocesan Capitular Museum which houses works of art from the cathedral and the diocese, including the recently restored crypt. * Confession of Angela of Foligno: The cathedral was the place where the Blessed Angela of Foligno made her confession to the Franciscan friar Arnaldo.

The Palazzo Comunale, a magnificent historical structure located in the heart of Foligno, was constructed during the 13th century and serves as the city hall. Situated at the crossing of four streets, this architectural marvel presents itself prominently to observers. In line with Romanesque traditions adopted for its construction, the Duomo is an integral part of this complex.
(Translated by Google) Earthquakes... This 13th-century palace stands out prominently in the central Piazza della Repubblica, although its initial reconstruction took place between the 16th and 17th centuries, when it was enlarged to include the former Palazzo dei Priori and Palazzo del Capitano. It was rebuilt several times due to earthquakes, so much so that in the 1997 earthquake the lantern, also known as the torrino, the tower that tops the Palazzo Comunale, collapsed. It was restored after 10 years, and the columns surmounting a series of arches support the base on which the lantern then rises. (Original) I terremoti...

Piazza del Grano is a historic square in Foligno, known as 'Piazza Nova' in the past. It has been a vibrant market square for centuries, where farmers sold various goods like vegetables, fruits, grains, and even fish. The highlight of this square is the Gothic-style church of San Giacomo in Foligno, built-in 1402. Its distinctive facade adorned with striking white and red bands makes it easily recognizable.

The market has always been the life of the city in this square...everything was sold...all kinds of vegetables, herbs, fruit, grains, flowers, even fish...in short, the pulsating center where the farmers who came from the countryside sold their fruits of the earth and more. In fact, the citizens of Foligno also know it by the name of "Piazza delle Erbe".. Until the early 1800s there was a large "Loggia" in the center of the square.... a large structure that allowed sellers to shelter the goods to be sold from the elements. Today if we look carefully at the new flooring created after the restorations of the years 2009/10 we can clearly see the limits of the loggia formed by pink stones which today delimit the ancient position..... Villa dei Mosaici di Spello is a glass-fronted museum that offers a fascinating insight into the Roman history of the town. Visitors can explore the incredible mosaics and Roman remains unearthed in this area, with hands-on activities often available for children. The museum showcases a splendid imperial-age villa with twenty rooms featuring stunning mosaic floors, displaying superior craftsmanship and elegant designs.
Ancient Roman site with splendid remains, discovered not so long ago. Very well organized and maintained, apparently discovered by accident during some excavation works.

Very interesting place where you can see the Roman house mosaic discovered in recent years. I don't know the Mosaic House in Sicily, that apparently is bigger than this one, but for me it worth the visit.

Ok, but for the price one would've expected working toilets with toilet paper. Also a bit excessive, as it usually is with the museums built in the last decades

The 1 star is for the museum opening time. 😱😱 On Saturday 1st of June: closing time between 1 and 3 pm!!!! If you go at 12.35 you can’t get in; ticket must be purchased 30 minutes before for a museum that needs 10 minutes to be appreciated! This is the proof Italy doesn’t know how to sell its artistic patrimony!

(Translated by Google) Ancient and rich in history. In Piazza San Domenico, facing each other, we find two churches: San Domenico, which has now become an Auditorium, and this one, which is actually one of the oldest in all of Foligno. Its origins date back to the 11th century. The façade is made of white and pink stone, and features a small portico with four columns with capitals added in the following century. Above the portico is a mullioned window, and on the right side, slightly set back, is the Romanesque bell tower. Inside, numerous frescoes are visible on the columns and walls, including the Crucifixion. In the left nave, as soon as you enter, is the 12th-century Chapel of the Assumption, whose walls feature two mullioned windows housing the 13th-century fresco of the Archangel Gabriel and the Good Thief Dismas. Among the other treasures is the 12th-century wooden statue of the Madonna and Child, from which the image of Jesus was stolen. (Original) Antica e ricca di storia. Le sue origini risalcono all'XI secolo.
