New Haven Green, a 16-acre park at the heart of downtown New Haven, was originally part of the Puritan settlement and continues to be a vibrant hub for events and festivals. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls, picnics, or simply relax amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. The park is well-maintained and monitored by the city authorities, offering a safe and free space for all. Food trucks are conveniently located nearby on weekdays.
I visited New Haven Green, I was totally blown away! This place is such a vibe—right in the heart of New Haven, it’s a beautiful open space with so much history. The green is surrounded by stunning old trees and historic buildings, making it the perfect spot to chill, take a walk, or just soak in the atmosphere. I loved how it felt like a little oasis in the city, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy. If you’re looking for a peaceful spot with a lot of charm, New Haven Green is a must-visit.

New Haven Green is a 16 acre green space located in downtown New Haven. Surrounding it is the hustle and bustle of the city. There are beautiful historic architecture everywhere you look when you're standing in the Green. It was built in 1638 and is the location for many events and festivals, in the past and present. There are three historic churches located there. Also, it is one of the oldest town green in the U.S. It was even used as a cemetery back in the day and the bodies are still buried there, but the headstones were removed. My family and I enjoyed walking through. There were many benches and there were plenty of walkways throughout. Also, they now have wifi if anyone wants to work remotely from here or have a picnic. I'm a fan of historic places and this place definitely has a rich history.

Decent size park located in the hearth of the downtown area of the city. 1st time visiting this city and wanted was one of my last stops.

Downtown New Haven Green is absolutely gorgeous—a beautiful spot for a Sunday stroll, a peaceful sit, or simply soaking in that charming New England vibe. Just a note: you may encounter some houseless individuals, some of whom may be dealing with mental health challenges. They’re generally harmless, but it’s always good to stay aware and be respectful of the shared space.
Jamil M — Google review
The New Haven Green at DWNTWN New Haven is really cool. Lots of green and friendly to all New Havenites. Take a seat on one of the benches or just plop down in the middle of the Green and enjoy the sounds of the water fountain. Sometimes there are concerts and such. If this doesn't work for you then take BUS 261 to the Milford Mall or the BUS 212U to Target / Best Buy / Dick's & BJs (always a lot of fun if you have a couple dollars to spare)
Fred S — Google review
The grounds are well kept and dog friendly. But, new haven ignores the homeless and this is a refuge for some of them. It's a pretty scary place after dark because of the bus traffic and homeless just trying to find a place to sleep. They don't have any public restrooms besides the library so be warned it smells like a toilet.

I have mixed feelings about New Haven Green although I like this park

Yale University, a prestigious Ivy League institution established in 1701, is renowned for its strong emphasis on liberal arts, drama, and music programs. Situated in New Haven, the university's campus offers free museums and embodies quintessential New England charm. The surrounding historic neighborhoods such as Wooster Square and the Hill neighborhood provide a rich cultural experience with cherry tree-lined streets and authentic Italian eateries.
Such a GRAND school. Just to step foot onto this campus, I felt immediately smarter, haha! The architecture of the buildings really is magnificent. Like stepping back in time, seeing the huge columns, inscription into the buildings, grand doorways, and old-fashioned windows definitely play the part. Overall, it was such a nice visit just walking around the campus on a Saturday rainy afternoon. A lot of students were walking around as well. If you're ever visiting this area, I definitely recommend visiting this school.
Jennifer E — Google review
Our family has been here many times for various middle school and high school classes (highly recommend). But for the trip we took the admissions tour for our rising senior daughter and did the info session and really enjoyed it! The campus is so beautiful, and it was great learning more about applying and life on campus.

I was unaware of the scale that Yale University has. It’s quite literally an entire city. We walked for miles and block after block, building after building was just another Yale owned building. The architecture is truly incredible to see on these buildings. Hillhouse Avenue is full of beautiful houses turned into Yale buildings.
Christine A — Google review
A very nice school with nice brown bricks buildings. There are a lot of police cars along side the school and its boundaries, and the light always keep lighting. There are also many security guards walking in the school area. The bad things are 1) the streets is not very clean, there are many trash on the streets; 2) there are some people walking with hammers, or other tools ; 3)the free parking varies, some 5pm, some 7pm. Be safe when visiting.
Hills L — Google review
Let me preface this, I was only visiting the outside area as a tourist. I am not reviewing this as a student there. I am huge fan of history, architecture, and Gilmore Girls. While in the area, I had to make a visit. It was founded in 1701 and is one of the top 3 Ivy Leagues. It is known for their law, political science, medicine, drama, and history programs. I love the Gothic architecture. They made walking around accessible. They even offer tours. Overall, I think it is a lovely school and highly notable.

My wife and I recently visited Yale University for the first time, and we were absolutely amazed. The campus is stunning — a perfect blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty. Walking through the courtyards and along the old stone buildings felt like stepping into another world. The atmosphere was welcoming and full of energy. From the iconic Sterling Memorial Library to the peaceful Yale University Art Gallery, everything was thoughtfully designed and full of character. We especially appreciated how friendly and helpful everyone was.

On our way to Boston from NY, we decided to detour to New Haven, Connecticut, to visit Yale University, and we were amazed. It was truly worthwhile to visit this place and its beautiful buildings, which preserve the architecture of the 1700s. I recommend visiting Yale, the place where five US presidents and 60 Nobel laureates were educated. Walking through its tree-lined streets, steeped in history, was enriching for my family and me.

Museums
The Yale Center for British Art, an impressive museum designed by architect Louis I. Kahn, boasts the largest collection of British art outside of Britain itself. The center provides a comprehensive survey of English art, culture and history through various periods. Visitors can easily navigate the building without assistance as it is well-structured with exhibits that cater to all ages. Admission is free, and multiple visits offer different perspectives on the arts collection.
A nearly sublime museum experience, lovingly restored. The collection of art may or may not be to your taste, tho there are some standout works from Stubbs, Reynolds, van Dyck, Bacon, and above all the magnificent Turner holdings. The real star is the the Kahn building itself, however, all blonde oak and fine concrete, travertine and pale linen walls, spongy carpet and mod seating, the magnificent concrete cylinder containing the stairwell (skip the slow clunky elevator). The new skylights are a major improvement, and the whole place is wonderful for people watching along with enjoyment of the art. The shops along the Chapel Street facade are a nice touch although the exterior steel panels are still (to me) absolutely dreadful. I don’t buy the argument that it’s a background building—it’s just ugly. No matter, still a treat to walk through, under and up around in Kahn’s last masterpiece. Don’t miss it.

Right across the street from the Yale University Art Gallery, It’s the perfect next stop to complete your art-filled day. Free admission, a lovely atmosphere and super friendly staff. I really enjoyed my visit!

Seems like a comprehensive collection. Lacking contemporary works, but the ground floor exhibition was in the middle of being installed, so maybe that’s what happened there. In the basement there are handicap bathrooms and lockers for your large bags.

YCBA houses the largest collection of British art outside of the United Kingdom. Designed by the architect Louis I. Kahn (1901-1074) and opened in 1977, this building now serves as a space to present Yale University's British Art collection to the public. 4F is for the museum's permanent collection, while 2F and 3F hosts temporary exhibitions.

Wow... what a wonderful surprise to see how great this collection is (mostly from the Mellon donations)...had some really great works on display. Start on the top floor where you'll see most of the works, and then work your way down. The building is deceptive..a lot more room inside than would appear. Budget at least 90 minutes, esp if you plan to see a special exhibition.

Amazing store! I love this vintage store! The selections are lovely and in great condition. The owners and staff are great. You can rent items for parties. They also have a wishlist you can get on if you have an item you are interested in. They have vintage designer items that are totally worth it!

A bit of history! I bought a really nice purse from the 60s! I paid $15 dollars for it ! I think it’s super cute! (Pic) The shop has dozens and dozens of pursues, clothes, hats, scarfs...! You need at least 2-3 hours to take a look around! Love the place! Tip: Make sure that what you want to buy is not a little pricey... I will come back soon!

Huge selection of vintage clothes and costume pieces and extremely knowledgeable owners make this a New Haven gem!

Have only good things to say about this place! Todd, one of the owners, spent a lot of time and multiple days on my husband and I, helping us put together a Peaky Blinders-esque couple's outfits- we looked authentic and cool, and are now much more comfortable with themed outfit parties. Thanks Todd!
Anna G — Google review
Fashionista is a gem of a shop where ever item has a story. This is a carefully curated collection of top quality vintage clothing and accessories, lovingly displayed in the hope of finding each piece a new owner who will treasure it. I stopped in on a recent summer evening to look around. A tunic caught my eye — my colors, my style, my size! And designed by a couturier from Paris (or so the tag said). It was so much like me that it could have come from my closet! Another orphan found a new home. Fashionista is not a thrift store. That being said, the prices are very fair for the quality. Rental is also an option. When you have a little time, come on over and see what Fashionista has to offer. You will not be disappointed.
Elaine P — Google review
We first rented from Fashionista last August ... the owners went out of their way to help us. We were looking for 3 changes each for our gala. Naturally, this Halloween we of course took the long drive to New Haven. Todd, the owner, multi tasked with many customers as she made suggestions for us, tried many outfits on me.. then even took measurements to add to the piece a unique design to make my outfit perfect. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND These LADIES AND THEIR FABULOUS SHOP.

Best vintage shop in CT hands down. Amazing selection of clothing and accessories dating back to the 60s, 70s and 80s. Staff is very kind and welcoming, especially Tod! Very helpful and knowledgeable. Will absolutely be going back to this gem of a place.

Pizza restaurant
Italian restaurant
Restaurant
Modern Apizza, established in 1934, is a renowned pizza joint in New Haven that offers a variety of thin-crust pizzas and Italian classics. Unlike its counterparts, Modern Apizza uses oil instead of coal to fuel its ovens, resulting in a signature charred crust. The restaurant is less crowded than other popular spots but still delivers delicious pies with generous toppings. The ambiance exudes an old-school Italian charm with wood walls and leather booths.
From the moment the pie emerged from the oil‑fueled brick oven, it was clear: Modern is a master of New Haven‑style apizza. Founded in 1934 (originally as State Street Apizza), it’s considered one of the iconic “Holy Trinity” of New Haven pizza alongside Pepe’s and Sally’s . I ordered their famed White Clam Pie (with fresh littleneck clams, garlic, olive oil, pecorino romano, and bacon). The clams were sweet and abundant, and the crust… wow. Thin, blistered, slightly charred on the bottom, crispy yet chewy—the kind of crust only a New Haven apizza can pull off . The little semolina bits stuck to the underside added that smoky crunch local aficionados talk about . I also tried the Italian Bomb—sausage, pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms, peppers, onions, garlic. Delicious, but definitely loaded—worth sharing or choosing one or two toppings if you’d prefer a lighter slice . Service was efficient and friendly, though there’s always a long line to dine in—30+ minutes. Takeout was much faster (around 20 minutes), and makes the experience more casual but every bit as satisfying . What makes Modern stand out: • A loyal dedication to high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. Their Margherita uses fresh mozzarella from Liuzzi Cheese in nearby North Haven . • Their oven doesn’t rely on coal but still achieves the intense high-heat bake that defines New Haven pizza . • Recognized nationally, including Pizza Today’s 2023 Pizzeria of the Year award . In summary: Modern Apizza delivers a reliably excellent representation of New Haven‑style apizza—whether you’re a local or a pizza pilgrim. Thin, charred crust; bold, balanced toppings; and a fast-paced but friendly atmosphere. If you want to experience one of America’s most celebrated pizzerias, this is a spot you must try.
Zia P — Google review
This was the second place I visited during my little pizza tour this past weekend. It took a bit longer to get a table as I waited for about 1/2 hour after putting my name down on the waiting list. The staff here is nice. My server Christine was friendly, attentive and helpful. Since I couldn't decide on what kind of pie to get she suggested I get half of two different toppings. So I ordered half broccoli and half chicken. Since the place was packed, I didn't have too much of a wait time to get my order. The pizza itself is really good. I actually rated this a bit higher than the previous place I visited. I give Modern Apizza a 8.8 out of 10, just because I liked that the pizza was cooked perfectly where the crust wasn't too hard and it had a nice taste of garlic, where some people might get turned off. The restaurant itself is clean, they have a decent menu with reasonable pricing, serves alcohol (beer and wine) and has a good sized parking lot. Now that the college kids are back in school I expect this place to get busier as this really is a good spot to grab a bite to eat.
Lisa S — Google review
I stopped into Modern Apizza on a Saturday afternoon with my daughter and had a really good experience overall. We arrived around 12:40 PM and only waited about 15 minutes for a table, which was great considering how popular New Haven pizza spots can get. We ordered two small pies — the Mozzarella and a Meatball. The Mozzarella pizza had nice flavor but leaned a little undercooked for that classic New Haven char, with the crust on the softer side and a touch soupy in the middle. The Meatball pizza, on the other hand, was excellent: crispy crust, perfectly baked, and topped with sliced meatballs (not crumbled), which gave it great texture and flavor. The atmosphere feels like a step back in time — a bit of a late ’90s vibe with lots of memorabilia on the walls. It’s not the most modern look, but it adds character and charm. By the time we left, the place had filled up quite a bit, so arriving slightly earlier worked in our favor. Overall, Modern Apizza is a solid stop for anyone wanting the New Haven pizza experience. The pies are tasty, the service is friendly, and while the style can vary from pie to pie (sometimes softer, sometimes crispier), that’s part of the brick-oven character. Worth checking out if you’re in town

When we took a trip in the area we had to stop in to this famous pizza spot. There was a line at opening but it went fast. The interior is an old style booth setting. The staff was very friendly and pizza was of course fantastic. Stop if you can, if you are a pizza lover like myself you won't be disappointed. Then you can walk to Yale to burn some of the calories off.

Tried Modern Pizza for the first time and ordered the garlic bread, bruschetta, Margherita pie, and Veggie Bomb pie — everything tasted really good! The flavors were fresh and balanced, and the crust was perfectly baked. We did have to wait about 45 minutes for our order, but the food was worth it in the end. Definitely a spot I’d come back to for good quality pizza and appetizers. 🍕👏
Vivek P — Google review
Rich flavor, rich cheese🧀, and a slightly thicker crust than Frank Pepe — some people may prefer the thinner style, but this was great in its own way. The staff were very nice, and there are tons of topping options. You can even do half-and-half or quarter combinations, which is awesome. We were a party of two and only waited about 5 minutes at 1 PM on Friday. We ordered the Clams Casino, eggplant, anchovies, and pepperoni. If you want more of a pure clam flavor, I’d recommend ordering the regular clam pizza instead of Clams Casino — but the bacon on the Casino was very crispy, savory, and well-cooked. The anchovies had a really interesting and new flavor for us, but they were a bit salty for our taste. My favorite was eggplant pizza! 🍆Highly recommend.
Juhyun K — Google review
Loved!! I'm actually surprised how much I loved! We tried the clam, meat lovers, and our server suggested the eggplant, so we had that too. Oh, me of little faith in the eggplant pizza. It was phenomenal! Something about the crust is extra great, I haven't stopped thinking about it in weeks. The others were equally good but a lot of toppings. I read that CT pizza is best enjoyed with fewer toppings and I've found that to be true. Get the eggplant pizza!
L S — Google review
I found myself in New Haven on Saturday afternoon in August, and wanted to try some of their famous Pizza. My GPS and Google brought me to "Modern" when I searched "Best Pizza Near Me." So I ventured there, and though difficult to find parking, I eventually found a spot. Walking up to the front door, I was told there were about 50 people in front of me which might be a 2 plus hour wait. But the man there said take out would be much quicker. So I made that choice. Went back to the rear left of the restaurant and had my order for takeout in about 6 minutes. Maybe 15 minutes later, my food was ready. I opted for the Italian Bomb and a Ceaser salad. Which I had to take home, over an hour drive back to Stamford. That being said, with a lukewarm pizza and semi-chilled salad both were FANTASTIC!! Really, really AMAZING pizza!! I can certainly see why Dave Portnoy rates Modern as a Top Three Pizza in Connecticut. It was absolutely magnificent!! I would go to this place over and over again if it were near me. I would not hesitate to go back when I'm in New Haven next.

Pizza restaurant
Sally's Apizza is an iconic pizzeria in New Haven, serving coal-fired, thin-crust pies that have attracted long lines of customers since 1938. The name "Apizza" reflects the Naples dialect of early Italian immigrants in New Haven. This family-owned restaurant has a strong emotional appeal and is known for its balanced sauce and less-charred crust.
Like many a tourist, I had Sally's Apizza on my list because of Dave Portnoy. I was blown away when I turned the corner to a line at the end of the block. The anticipation could not be higher! We ordered two large Mozzarella & Tomato Sauce Pies, a small Bacon, Apple, Sage pie, a Caesar Salad, and a Gassosa to drink. The mozzarella and tomato pie is king for a reason. A sweet and fresh tomato sauce on a light, coal-fired crust does all the heavy lifting. The bacon and apple was unique, but I don't love white cheese pizzas and the apple is too nuanced for me. The Caesar salad was incredible, and I pinched myself to ensure it wasn't my taste buds boosting flavors because of the wait. The dressing isn't too strong, and coats each leaf of fresh lettuce perfectly while dashed with just the right amount of croutons. And the gassosa complemented the pizza as I hoped it would, so I'm a big fan of the "Italian Sprite." The amount of food was perfect for a party of five. Angel was a great server. He under-promised and over-delivered. When we were seated, he let us know pies would take an hour. He brought our salad and drinks out quickly, and we were pleasantly surprised when food was out in about 30-40 minutes. He was quick on refills, and checked on us regularly. I enjoyed how even though there's a lot of anticipation from patrons to get into the restaurant, and then once in receive food quickly, the staff keep the anxiety down and manage the time. They set the tone, and it makes for a great dining experience. Great service all around. The atmosphere is everything I could hope for. A seasoned pizzeria part of the soul of a city, with fans old and new who wait for hours to get a table and share a pie. In total, I waited in line for 90 minutes, then 40 to get the pizza. It was absolutely worth the wait. Would I do it again? I'd honestly probably plan ahead and do takeout, but for my first time, I'd wait again. It was a legendary experience and well worth the memories. One Bite: 8.7/10

I expected the line outside. What I didn’t expect was an hour wait once we ordered one pizza. Was it delicious? Yes. I wish the crust wasn’t so burnt though. The waitress never came and checked on us to let us know there was an hour before we’d eat. Never filled our water until we flagged her down. Still glad I ate here, but prepare to wait. EDIT-Thank you for letting me know about the New Haven char. I had no idea. If that’s how it’s done than the pizza was perfect!
Renee A — Google review
Delicious Pizza! We arrived 30 minutes before opening and we were 5th in line. There is normally a line as it’s very popular. The pizza was a true classic in amazing flavor. Portions were large and the price wasn’t bad especially considering how delicious the pizza tasted. Next time definitely getting it to go so a side by side can happen with their biggest competitor. Overall if you love pizza this is a must visit location as they are definitely in the top pizza places in the world.
Coach T — Google review
Great pizzas and quick friendly service. Definitely recommend adding fresh garlic and basil to any pizza you get. We ordered many different ones but liked the stinger the most. I’ve tried other apizzas so felt like the crust could be thinner, but still good!

*Update*: Spoke with management, very pleasant person over the phone clearly committed to making things better. Definitely will give them another shot. *Update* So, let me start off by saying that my experience from this location has only been take out. I did dine in at another Sally’s location and the pizza was tied with Di Fara’s as my all time favorite. So I was rather disappointed with my experience at this location, especially being the original spot. I did give it two chances though. My first time I was scheduled for a 2:45pm pickup but showed up at 2:40 thinking it wouldn’t be ready yet. To my surprise it was all ready to go. I took it to my car and immediately opened it up. While it was warm, I could tell right away it had been sitting in the box for a long amount of time. It was floppy and not as crispy as I thought it was going to be. No where near as good as the Sally’s at the other location. So I decided to give it another try. This time I had a pickup time of 2:15. When I got there there was a sign up that wasn’t there before saying it was cash only. I told the guy I wasn’t told over the phone that they were cash only and asked his advice on closest atm. In a rushed manner he said “I have no clue. Maybe downtown”. I proceeded to walk around for 20 minutes to find an atm. When I came back approximately 30 minutes later I noticed the sign was taken down. I told the cashier at the takeout window my situation and he said “I’m just a worker bee, that was a managerial decision”. I said perhaps he should bring my feedback back to his manager. No response, clearly he was overwhelmed and didn’t care. I asked him if my pie had been sitting around, he told me it was in a warmer. So, yes, my pie was just sitting in a box in a warmer. There are a bunch of different things he could have done in this situation to rectify things, but he had no desire to do that. I’m also noticing a lot of “cookie cutter” responses to reviews on this account. “We value your feedback and will share with our team”. To me, I don’t get the feeling you are valuing people’s feedback, and I didn’t get that feeling in person either. I get it, you will still get a line of people each day paying $27 for your pie no matter what. But perhaps you should just put a little more effort into really making this a 9.2 experience for all, even those without YouTube channels.

I got the burrata pizza. It looks divine and i cannot believe im saying this but it could’ve used a little more flavor. I added every single seasoning in my cabinet to every slice i ate. I did eat a good amount of it on my own and it was delicious even then. Much to my surprise the thin crush did hold everything up pretty well. Didn’t get too flimsy. I would get this again.

Visited 30 pizzerias in 9 days in New Haven, Philly and New York. All the way from the UK. Sally’s was my first stop in New Haven. Arrived around 11:30. Service was fine. He let us try some of the sodas before settling on the cream soda so a slight plus there. Although the guy had a script he was doing with every table and it did not feel personable in any way at all to us. “Are you guys ready for the best pizza of your life?!” Was what he said to every table. Which you could hear every few minutes. I was really was ready for the best pizza of my life but what we got was genuinely the worst pizza of the 30 I visited on my 9 day trip. Very disappointed in this experience as I’ve been excited for years to visit Sally’s. The photo’s will show you the pizzas we were served. I spoke to others in new haven that day that feel the same and met another person who went at 19:30 the same day was served a similarly under baked pie. If the owners are happy with this output then that’s a real shame.

Been thinking about pizza for a while, hence decided to drive to New Haven (CT). The drive was about 2 hours plus. The wait in the line was another 2 hours plus. The pizza arrived about 30 minutes after I was seated & placed the order. I invested 5 hours for pizza (not counting the drive back). Not just any pizza, but pizza in New Haven (CT), arguably the best pizza town in America. Not just any pizza, but pizza at Sally’s, perhaps amongst the top three pizza joints in New Haven (CT). But 5 hours ? Yes, 5 hours because it is so good. The long wait time may perhaps also be because Sally’s has just one small coal fired oven (probably the same since 1938) and serves both sit down customers and takeout orders. I ordered three small pies (thin charred crust). Tomato Pie (not the red pizza sauce, just crushed fresh tomato) Clam Pizza (don’t hate it till you try it) Potato & Rosemary Pie (don’t hate it till you try it) In 1938, the most expensive pie at Sally’s was $1.50. It is not dollar fifty anymore, but these pies and the crowds outside Sally’s have endured so far. After I got home, I placed the leftover slices (in the box) on the kitchen counter for a very short time. The whole house had that wonderful New Haven charred crust pizza aroma (so good).

Bar
ZINC New Haven is a stylish restaurant offering modern American farm-to-table cuisine with an Asian twist. Since its establishment in 1999, co-owners Donna Curran and chef Denise Appel have been dedicated to showcasing local produce from the community. Located across from the historic New Haven Green, the restaurant's sustainable menu features ingredients from local artisans such as Liuzzis Cheese and Jones Apiaries.
I had my baby shower at Zinc’s garden room event space and could not have asked for a better experience. The waitstaff was excellent, attentive, and very patient with my group of eccentric guests. They even came up with a last minute signature drink for the shower (bees knees) when they saw the Winnie the Pooh/honey decorations! Everyone raved about the food and the desserts were to die for. The event space itself is beautiful and lightly decorated, but not so decorated that it interfered with our additions. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to host an event in New Haven and I look forward to hosting our next event there.

First time here in years and was pleasantly surprised to learn the had updated the menu over the last year. Fortunately, the food was just as excellent as my last visit. Since I was flying solo, I decided to sit at the bar and had a great conversation with the bartender. Everything was delicious and the portions were just right. Highlight was the branzino, it was cooked to perfection!

We had a great meal and drinks at Zinc. The waitress was very friendly and attentive as was all of the staff. The sangria was very good I would highly recommend it. I ordered the octopus and my husband has the sea bass. Both entrees were delicious but on the smaller side. We did not care for the cheese platter appetizer and would skip that next time. Overall we enjoyed the meal! Parking can be validated at the local garage or park on the street at a meter.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary. We were greeted with champagne and then had a few cocktails from the bar. We had the baba ganoush and duck special for appetizers, chicken tacos and lamb for our meals, and tried a few of their delicious deserts. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It was a super lovely night!

Hands down the best food we’ve had in the city. The use of herbs is what makes this place shine. Perfectly placed mint, basil and rosemary. Everything fresh and creative.

Beautiful establishment, attentive staff. Flavors of the meals are out of this world. I had a wonderful experience sitting at the bar. Will absolutely be back soon! Gluten free options. Greatly gifted chef. Drinks were SO tasty too! I got the tuna, got it as the chef recommended. My friend ordered the salmon. Was so good! Almond cake, get it if you can!

BAR is a popular and lively establishment in a town known for its traditional pizza joints. The bar and dance club feature indie rock shows in an industrial-chic setting with cozy nooks. Known for its famous mashed potato and thick-cut bacon pizza, BAR offers a unique twist on traditional pizzas, including the red pie with mozzarella and meatballs. Additionally, the venue brews its own beers, adding to its appeal as a local favorite.
Today, the Slice Mob rolled into New Haven in the Slice Mob Mobile, hungry and ready to tackle some legendary New Haven–style pizza. This month’s meetup brought us to BAR Pizza on Crown Street. Cool spot. Long communal tables flanked by towering fermentation tanks, not for their dough, but for their beer. But I digress. Inside, it’s got an easygoing, open vibe. No wait, plenty of space, and enough table real estate to handle the sprawl of pizzas this crew is famous for ordering. Some of today’s hits (that I didn’t personally try) included the Margherita, Elote, Lobster Roll, and Smoked Brisket pies , all earning rave reviews from the table. Me? I stayed true to form with a Red Pie and the Portrait of New Haven. Both came on BAR’s signature cracker-thin crust, flavorful, sturdy, and perfectly charred, holding the toppings like it was born to do so. The sauce was balanced and fresh, lightly seasoned, and topped with a light snowfall of grated Parmigiano. The Portrait of New Haven used the same crust-and-sauce base, then leveled up with locally sourced Lamberti sausage (the kind that makes you remember what sausage should taste like), roasted red peppers, house-made sauce, ricotta, and mozzarella. The result? A perfect symphony of sweet, creamy, and umami-rich flavors, with smoky undertones from that charred crust. This was my showstopper, had my name written all over it. BAR is an excellent downtown hangout, feels like a weekend staple waiting to happen. Cool atmosphere, top-notch pies, and absolutely Slice Mob Approved.

It's a bar with a small pizza menu. The pizza is thin crust and there's four options from what I saw on the menu, and it's all delicious. A friend and I split a large which was a bit too much but somehow we finished it all. The service was good, they didn't come and check on us which was in the end of the world. But we sort of expect that sometimes for drink refills and such. It looks like a pretty happen place with a good bar and lots of space to eat and hang out including outside seating. Which probably wouldn't be for me with the busy road outside. But if you heard the pizza is good here, I would have to agree and I would encourage you to check it out. Probably not a good spot for kids, but for everybody else it's great.

BAR was incredible. Not as old as the other New Haven pizza spots, but definitely worth trying a pie. Some of the thinnest pizza I have ever had. Their Lobster Roll and Mashed Potato and Bacon are great non-traditional offerings at this bar that also serves as a nightclub at night. Definitely recommend to anyone on New Haven Pizza tour.

Visited New Haven and was told that BAR had really great pizza -- specifically the mashed potato pizza. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it, but it turns out that I LOVED it. So good! This place is great to grab some pizza with a group. There were lots of great options on the menu.

This was our 1st time at Bar. They had a 30 minute wait but the hostess suggested we sit at the bar and order pizza if we wanted. Great idea! We started with the tomato pie which was perfect. Their sauce is delicious 😋. Hubby had a key lime sour beer and really enjoyed it. We finished the tomato pie and ordered "a taste of New Haven" pie. OMG, in house made sausage, roasted red peppers, dough, sauce, ricotta....so yummy. We boxed up what was left to go , got 2 crawlers of the key lime beer to go and said our good bye 😀

first time trying new haven style pizza as a jersey native. pizza was good. waitress with curly hair was nice and even helped when they sent out the wrong pie. young girl as the hostess tonight 10/23 5pm not so much. when i asked if we could do a table for 2 she immediately asked if my partner and i could be out of there by 7pm. weird question but sure no problem we just wanted a quick bite to eat anyways. i thought maybe they’re doing an event or something. she didn’t ask the group behind us that same question which was weird too but i realized my partner and i were the only non white people in there. we left at 6pm sharp so we didn’t go over the time limit set by the front hostess. as we left she said goodnight to a group walking a few feet in front of us but looked at my partner and i and didn’t say anything. i love trying new places to eat all over nyc/nj/boston and unfortunately this place is the first time i’ve ever had a bad taste left in my mouth. the pizza was good and our waitress with curly hair was super sweet but i probably wont be back because of the hostess.

BAR New Haven was excellent pizza!! I was my first time there, and I brought three people from Maine with me plus one from CT. We all loved the pizza and the atmosphere!! Our waitress Taylor was phenomenal, she was very friendly and had a great conversation with us. We tried her favorite pizza Md Portrait of NH (Sausage, Roasted Red pepper, Ricotta, Basil, Garlic). Great recommendation by Taylor.

Super thin crust pizzas. We tried the famous/notorious mashed potato + bacon pizza. It was really yummy and scrumptious. (Should have ordered a small pie for two people; the medium is huge.) We also recommend the beers they make! The space itself is really cool. It’s divided into several rooms.

Claire's Corner Copia is a popular spot on the campus, offering kosher vegetarian dishes with a variety of Mexican options available all day. The restaurant features a homely atmosphere and serves its signature Lithuanian Coffee Cake along with gluten-free options like muffins and cookies. One of the highlights is the Fire Island Sandwich, known for its satisfying taste. Locals and students highly recommend the Lithuanian coffee cake and the ricotta chocolate chip cake as must-try desserts.
A really fun corner café with excellent vegan and vegetarian options. The entire café is vegetarian, and almost everything can be modified to be vegan. A good portion of the menu is vegan already. They also have clearly marked vegan baked goods in their own section. Everything tastes delicious, the grande burrito I got could feed an entire house! The staff was extremely courteous and the owner was present and happy to see every customer. I would highly recommend this place to any vegan or vegetarian visiting New Haven.

A good place to drop by if you're looking for a fully vegetarian spot. The tofu is soft but the flavors are on the generic and bland side, however the food is very healthy overall. The atmosphere is also great for studying with plenty of sunlight. Staff is very friendly also!

Anytime we visit family in New Haven area, we make a point of having lunch at Claire's, especially after a night of pizza! Order at the counter, bus your table. Food is fabulous and healthy, portions are large. Tip - salads and soups come with a small loaf of bread, you can ask to leave it off your order. I didn't try and substitute, just didn't want it because the salad is large and has croutons. You can get a to-go box for leftovers. Tea selection was good and water was hot.

Made this our #1 to try for an overnight in town. The place itself reminds me of coop restaurants from the NE and WC. Seems like the entire team is behind their service and what they're serving up. The whole place feels like an oasis of rooted morale in good service, community, and a warm welcome vibe that is perfect! Ordered a Fire Island sandwich. Massive! Had to wrap up half and eat it later (sooner than later cuz it was too good to wait). Wish they were at home. But definitely stopping by on our next trip to the area.

Overall seems like a nice vegetarian/vegan spot but did not like what I ordered (roasted vegetable salad). Except for the one asparagus spear on the salad, all of the vegetables (mostly just carrots) were raw and crunchy. And even with tahini dressing and hummus on it, it had very little flavor. My partner ordered a burrito that was also not very good. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things as their menu was very extensive and everything sounded good.

Atticus Bookstore Cafe is a charming glass-fronted bookstore and cafe that has been a beloved fixture in New Haven for over 40 years. It offers a cozy spot to enjoy coffee, breakfast, sandwiches, and even dinner options while surrounded by shelves of novels, biographies, and art exhibits. The cafe serves up three homemade soups daily, including a vegetarian option, along with an array of salads, sandwiches, entrees, and sides.
Great coffee drinks and pastries. Some seats inside and are pretty busy since it is nearby galleries and Yale buildings. ✨☀️🍞Morning bun was really delicious. Rich flavor with crispy and pliable texture. Highly recommended to cinnamon lovers. 🩷☕️🥛(seasonal) pink peppercorn and butterscotch latte was smooth with creative flavors. Not too sweet with a hint of spicy pepper! The corn-based cookie (forgot the name) was interesting, unique flavor. It was chewy in the center and hard at the edge. Not my style but it was ok.

Near LITTLE book store with small cafe. Many different genres of books along with miscellaneous items to purchase. Prices seem reasonable. Half of building is small cafe with food and drink. Daughter got an iced vanilla latte (they don’t normally have cold foam, but did put cold foam from a seasonal drink on it) I had the Arnie Palmie. Both drinks were fine.

I really enjoyed my visit to Atticus Bookstore Cafe! The bookstore is so cute and stocked with journals, puzzles, different genres of books, and felt pop culture people ornaments! I ended up buying a Freddie Mercury and Dolly Parton felt ornament because I could not resist. The person working the bookstore was so friendly and knowledgeable, and seeing my interest in the Freddie Mercury ornament even showed me a new Freddie Mercury puzzle they just got in stock. The food and drink from the cafe was excellent, and speed of service was phenomenal. The breakfast sandwich was delicious-nice over-easy egg in the middle and a great portion of crispy bacon on fresh greens all in between a fresh and toasted potato bun. The cold brew was strong and flavorful. There's plentiful seating in a very pleasant atmosphere to enjoy your breakfast in.

I loved this place. Been there for at least 2/3 times while visiting Yale. Great coffee, good fresh bakery items, and great collection of books. Employees from both cafe and book sections are great. Loved their sandwich, cookies and muffins. The place is always very busy and you have to wait in a long queue because of its proximity to museum and campus but it’s worth waiting for.

I drank a very delicious latte. I really enjoyed it, the staff were caring and sweet. I tried the healthy chocolate bar sold at the cash register. It is also very enjoyable to have it together with the book section. The only thing that disturbed me was the fact that the seating areas were separate and there were beggars coming in. They should take this into consideration!

Coffee - very good Hot chocolate- very good 4 slices of sourdough toast for $7 - GROSS SHRINKFLATION because they cut 2 slices from the loaf, cut each of them in 2 and called it 4 slices. When there was a lull and nobody in line, I brought it to their attention that i was missing 2 slices, they did not agree. Ironically there were many books on the shelf that could have been referenced… Never again. Too many other options.

This was such a cute place!!!! The pastries were absolutely DELICIOUS. They tasted fresh and really really good. The staff there was super nice and helpful as well! I asked for book recommendations and the lady at the cashier helped me right away. (will definitely buy those books.) Their books are also nicely organized into sections, which I also really loved, along with even a section for "staff recommendations" which I thought was a smart idea. The atmosphere was super cute and cozy. 100% recommend stopping by and having a quick pastry or food and maybe even check out some books!

I ate here after a long day of driving. We got a few beers. The draft menu was pretty decent, some pretty funky stuff on there (kombucha ginger?). I got the spicy chicken wrap. The wrap wasn’t what I’d hoped it to be. The fried bit sloughed off and got soggy with all the other ingredients. The overall flavor was just missing something (what it was I’m not sure). My SO got the vermont style burger. He said it was mediocre, not worth $17 though. Each dish came with a mountain of fries. Honestly surprised how this place got a 4.3 rating with their food being how it was.

Stopped here for brunch on Sunday and really impressed by the beer menu and the food. Lots of rare and hard to find beers available. Charcuterie boards are half price on sundays so only $14 for a selection of 6 meats and cheeses. It was more than enough for two of us to share and everything was fresh and delicious. Also had a musician playing Beatles tunes which set a cool vibe in the place. Would def visit again if I get back to new haven.

Nestled in the heart of downtown New Haven, the Shubert Theatre stands as a historic gem that has been captivating audiences since its opening in 1890. The Shubert Theatre not only serves as a premier destination for theater enthusiasts but also plays a pivotal role in enriching the cultural landscape of New Haven.
Went to see the nutcracker with my mom and we both enjoyed the experience. The parking itself is fine but if you cannot handle traffic then plan to come earlier and look for street parking nearby.

I love the Shubert! Unlike another larger venue in Hartford... every seat is a good seat and you can actually see the stage, even from the back of the balcony! I bring around 40 students to see a show each year, and I can honestly say their group prices can not be beat by any other large theatre in the state. They also have a wonderfully diverse array of shows, including great dance performances which can be hard to find. I highly recommend!

A small theater with great views from just about any seat you have. The seats are super comfortable and you have plenty of room between you and the row in front of you. The theater is located in downtown New Haven with plenty of dining options before or after a show.

I think the Shubert is a great theater with a wide variety of show and a convenient location in CT (at least for me it is). It's also surrounded by a TON of restaurants, so you're spoiled for choice when it comes to having a meal before or after the show. One thing I really like is the fact the Shubert let's you see the entire seating chart and pick your seat when booking a show online. This may not sound like anything out of the ordinary but a few other theaters in CT only let you pick sections and then they give you random seats and there's no way to tell if there are better seats without starting over. The Shubert does NOT do that to you. I've been here twice so far and what I love most about the Shubert is how small it is, which means a lot of the seats are relatively close to the stage and you have a great view. The Mezzanine overhangs the Orchestra at Row H, so you start off only being about 8 rows back. Even the back row of the Mezzanine isn't too far. I believe the Balcony starts a couple of rows further back than the start of the Mezzanine, so still a good distance but I haven't sat up there. The seats are comfortable. I'm 5'6'' and both times I went (Mezzanine) my knees did NOT touch the seat in front of me. Given how tiny some theater's seats can be, that's a good thing. When you first walk in, there are 2 little bars - one in plain view and one behind the stairs. When you go up a level, there's a huge bar with a lot of seating. There's also an outdoor patio area with more seating. Entrance to the Mezzanine is another level up from there and it has a tiny bar. Bathrooms on every level. Although, I haven't sat in the Balcony, so can't speak for bars or bathrooms up there. We'll definitely be back. Love this place :-)

Simple, homey, down-to-earth breakfast spot for eggs, toast, homefries and pancakes. It's cash-only, so make sure you bring some cash. We got omelettes, 2 eggs any style, eggs benedict, eggs florentine, an egg sandwich, and cinnamon roll pancakes. You can order wheat, white, rye, or English muffin for toast. The omelettes are very customizable, and the toppings were delicious. They have Smuckers marmalade, strawberry jam, and grape jam. There's also maple syrup, Tabasco, and ketchup. We were on our way to RI and Martha's Vineyard. We heard a really good things about this place and stopped by for brunch. I was impressed by their service, they were super quick. Taste was also good. We will visit again.

The food here is amazing and our waitress was awesome. You have to try the grapefruit brûlée and the cinnamon roll pancake!

I am African American and when I come in especially today. I noticed the difference in the customer service that I receive. They serve 2oz cups of coffee for $3.75. Against Serve safe they combine expired coffee with freshly brewed. I ordered one egg and was given two. I only ate one and when I seen my check. I reminded the server that I only ordered one, she looked at me with a so what face expression and said “ I am pretty sure the cook gave you two” even though that’s not what I ordered or ate. I stated again that’s not what I ordered and I cannot eat two, that’s why I ordered one. She said well I guess I can take off the little $2 😳I have never been rude. The coffee cups size takes me four cups to equal one. So I like refills especially for $4 per 2oz cups and she fills the cup halfway. No matter what she should never forget about customer service no matter the nationality. I watched the difference in her service she provided me versus those who were not African American and this is maybe the 4th time I have experienced this issue and only with the same server. I will not be back.

Cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled adjacent to the prestigious Yale University, Grove Street Cemetery is a historic gem that dates back to 1796, making it the first chartered burial ground in the United States. This enchanting cemetery is not only significant for its age but also for its unique design featuring family lots and a city plan with named avenues and cross streets.
The Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven, Connecticut, is a remarkable historical landmark with a rich and positive history. Established in 1796, it was the first private, nonprofit cemetery in the world and introduced many innovative ideas that transformed how people viewed death and burial. One of the most significant aspects of the Grove Street Cemetery is its planned layout, which included plots permanently owned by individual families, ornamental plantings, and paved streets and avenues. This structured arrangement was a departure from the crowded and often neglected burial grounds of the time, providing a dignified and serene resting place for the deceased. The cemetery is also notable for its architectural features, particularly the Egyptian Revival entrance gate designed by the influential architect Henry Austin. This gate is considered one of the country's leading examples of the Egyptian Revival style and adds to the cemetery's historical and aesthetic significance. Overall, the Grove Street Cemetery stands as a testament to the evolution of burial practices and the enduring legacy of those who have shaped the history of New Haven and Yale University. Its serene and well-maintained grounds continue to offer a place of reflection and remembrance for visitors from near and far.

Beautiful historic cemetery. We spent a good hour just walking around astonished by the stories, accomplishments, and dates of the wonderful people resting there.

This is a very well kept and tranquil cemetery with some very important residents. Eli Whitney, Noah Webster, and Josiah Willard Gibbs to name just a few. Nestled in the city with beautiful Yale campus and church backdrops this is a great quiet spot to pay respects. Very well laid out making it an easy walk or drive for anyone
Bill O — Google review
Beautiful and well kept cemetery tucked in the middle of the city alongside Yales campus. It’s incredible how disconnected you become from the city around you due to its layout and beautiful tree coverage.

Quaint and serene cemetery honoring the past residents of New Haven. Numerous veterans, Yale professors, and influential individuals reside 6-feet under. While the upkeep at cemeteries is always to be desired, it would be better if some of the 300+ year old tombstones that have fallen down be picked up, grass grown uniformly, etc.
Max B — Google review
A beautiful and quiet sanctuary to remember our forefathers. The burials are old and there are some historic names buried here. A nice place to walk through with a toddler on a Sunday to get away from the crowds and noise of campus.

Beautiful cemetery that encompasses many famous people. Often you can get the specialized grave rubbing paper from the office. I'm so blessed that my deceased Mother, Dr. Beatrice Tinsley, is there. The staff, office and landscapers, are amazing and take such good care of all the gravestones, lawn, trees, etc. Definitely a 'must see' in New Haven. The office has a master map of the entire property. Go and learn the history, you'll never experience another Cemetery like this one.

The Owl Shop is a historic tobacconist, cigar bar, and lounge that has been a staple in New Haven since 1934. Despite Connecticut's smoking ban in bars, this cozy spot remains exempt due to its long-standing status as a tobacconist.
I don’t smoke but this is a smoke 🦉 shop done right. Amazing ambience and a great place to sit down and have a conversation with your pals. Drinks, food, and cigars for those that indulge. Simple yet elegant decor and not extremely loud. My friends and I enjoyed 10/10.

I've been coming here for many years but as I get older I appreciate things like quiet time and conversation. I showed up and completely forgot that Jazz night was in session. That was amazing. Because despite how quiet it wasn't I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was wonderful, but what was more amazing was that the band played, "Caravan" at the end and that was amazing. All of the staff is always super friendly and kind! We got taken care of right away without any issues! Can't wait to be back and have a couple more cigars!

Packed on a Wednesday night with a Jazz band playing. Since 2004 the Owl Shop has been the only public venue in CT where you can smoke cigars and drink. The Owl Shop originally opened as a bookstore in 1934 at 84 ½ Wall Street in New Haven, CT.

It’s my first time in New Haven! While exploring the Yale campuses, I stumbled upon this lovely café surrounded by books and a beautiful patio. I ordered a cappuccino—the service was really friendly and the place is super cozy. If I ever come back to New Haven, I’d love to visit again.

Nica's Market has built a strong reputation over the years as an outstanding establishment. The proprietors are professional, considerate, and amiable, ensuring a positive experience for all visitors. Their cuisine is consistently exceptional, offering a diverse range of enticing and delectable options that never fail to impress. When it comes to catering services, Nica's Market always delivers punctually and flawlessly, going above and beyond to rectify any mistakes or oversights.
Nica's is a charming neighborhood deli that offers a variety of mouthwatering options, from hearty sandwiches and paninis to fresh salads and homemade soups. It's been a favorite local spot for years. I recommend their chicken cutlet sandwich, especially when paired with fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers on focaccia. The outdoor seating area is perfect for enjoying your meal on a sunny day. One of my favorite hidden gem's in the east rock neighborhood.

RESTAURANT REVIEW Nica's Market New Haven Opened in 2002, Nica's Market is an Italian Deli located on Orange Street in New Haven CT. Nica's offers a wide variety of delicious sandwiches, salads, panini's and more. There are a wide variety of fresh made "hot foods" to satisfy local residents and workers appetites. The prices are slightly above the local average but the food is top notch.....most of the time. The one downside is the customer service, despite touting about it on their website. After visiting many times in a short period I was never met with the "outstanding customer service" they boast about. The food preparers seem all over the place and don't greet you with a friendly smile. Several order specifics were ignored on every one of my visits, including missing ingredients and added ingredients that were not ordered. Out of the 12 days I ate at Mica's, my "hot" food was stone cold, despite sitting on the hot bar. This happened at all times of the day as early as 11 AM and as late as 3PM. Bottom line. The food is delicious and the selection is great. If you have the patience to deal with a few annoying mistakes and inconsistent service definitely check this deli out just based on the amazing variety of Italian foods. Contrary to the food preparers, the girls that work the coffee counter are friendly and charming and always end the experience on a high.
Christopher D — Google review
I expected a regular sandwhich from the deli counter but I couldn't even beleive the Cowgirl Deli sandwhich. It was packed with amazing ingredients that really harmonized all the ingredients. The fact that they stacked up the deli meats and just dropped a few drops of vinegar, olive oil and dressings made this sandwhich amazing. I couldn't eat it all at once. The second half is going to be for dinner.
Robert H — Google review
Had the cowgirl panini which was pretty decent all in all. The peppers give it a slight kick, and the rest of it is mild. The pizza was eaten cold on the road so won’t comment on that since it probably wasn’t meant to be eaten that way. My gripe is with posted pricing for the sandwiches. Posted pricing is $11 but at checkout all of them said $12 and the girl said “oh prices increased last year but we just don’t bother keeping it updated.” What’s the point of posting prices then? Lines are long but service is overall quick, we stepped out for a bit and came back in 20 min and they were ready. No bathrooms, crowded parking lot, and areas out front to sit.
H — Google review
Nica's Marketplace in New Haven offers a delightful experience. We tried the portobello mushroom panini and chicken pennette, both of which were delicious. The prices are more affordable compared to other places, and there are many food options to choose from. The gelato ice creams were exceptional. I look forward to visiting again.
Surf E — Google review
Do not go here if you are a person of color. I have known this place for quite a while. Food is decent for a quick bite or lazy nights with way too many options to choose from. However, the customer service always sucks. Its a busy place so I get you don't have the time but you are food service bussiness. I have been there yesterday only to be waiting for my turn for more than 10 min. While I wait, I noticed there were flies all over the place on the pizzas that we wanted to order. I was calling a lady behind the counter to let her...saw us but wouldn't pay attention. I thought she must be busy or not see me...I am a big girl and its hard not see me. And I continued to wait only for me to see that they are choosing the customers than finding out who's next. I said excuse me like 5 times and My voice is not faint either. No one responded. What pissed me off is how much they boast about customer service. Like if I am brown, you can't see me? Never stepping into that place again.

Aye t̾e̾r̾p̾y̾fam ya guy slid thru Nica's lookin for a sammich of the Eye talian variety and lets just say this place gives ya olde worlde city mart vibes... The aisles are a lil cramped and theres a overwhelming array of specialty food items. If you can work your way around you will land at a counter to order sandwiches and pre made pastas n salads. And they bring the classics! Got a chicken cutlet badabing badaboom onna good roll and fresh arugula lemon dress3d to impress and clean cut Nice lil area to sit on a nice day and you have a sweet lunch w/o even having to try. Lived in New Haven for 6 years, and there were periods of time where I went to Nica’s daily. It’s the best! Amazing people, amazing hot foods in the back, and a reliable grocery market with everything you might need. Love to gather here for informal, sometimes formal meetings and enjoy the markets ambience as well. You can depend on locally sourced foods and the options of having a nice cup of Joe and a well balanced organic breakfast served as well. I just purchased 2 dairy free coffee creamers from there and I am disappointed in this purchase, I payed almost 6 bucks for each and the creamer was coddled.

I've noticed this building for months and I finally had time to check it out. This is honestly one of the most amazing markets I've shopped at. First, its beautiful and spotless. There's so much to choose from, pretty much all organic. I was thoroughly impressed. Very helpful staff, friendly patrons. Nice little cafeteria area. Coffee and tea station (they have blue agave nectar). Such a health conscious environment!

Waited a long time for the new, relocated Elm City Market to open. Now it has its been nothing but disappointment. Going smaller seems to be accompanied by reducing quality, especially of fruit (peaches we bought had to be thrown they were so bad!), and limiting breadth of products held. So sad but Elm is no longer on my shopping list.

I was so thankful when elm city market opened. For a reasonably small place, they have a great selection of healthy produce and natural brands. Their fruit/veg section is always nicely stocked and they have more than just the average options for GF, Vegans, veg, and paleo. In my experience the staff has always been very friendly, happy, and helpful. The cafe is nice for a quick sit down and they always have a colorful selection of flowers and house plants for purchase. The prices are general higher than say Trader Joe's, etc. but it's well worth it for the convenience!

Edgewood Park is a truly beautiful greenspace that also functions as an urban oasis for so many different types of fauna and flora. Walking through the trails is an enriching and grounding experience, Duck Pond is a lovely sight and so are the ducks, and of course you have the skate park on the north side and the playground towards the south. The graffiti is not why I'm knocking a star, but it definitely deserves its own note. To me, it tells the history of this park and those that were here once upon a time. It's fascinating to me to see how people saw the world through graffiti. The reason why I'm knocking a star is because the entirety of the recreation area to the west of the playground and West River, between Edgewood & Chapel, is unusable. It has been mowed when I was there a week or so ago, but it's still unusable as an outdoor recreation area, thanks to a solid half-inch of grass and what-not I have to step through throughout the entire area, and I was concerned for ticks and other bugs that I might bring home the entire time I walked through that area. Overall, I would definitely come back here for the sights & sounds, a place to unwind, and also a place to work out; I find a lot of people do their morning workout here!
Emma K — Google review
It’s a fairly typical city park, I think, with some lovely parts and some well maintained features, and other things that have fallen into disrepair and a pretty chronic litter problem. There’s a road (closed to cars) running through the center of the park that is about a mile long. A lot of people run or walk their dogs or bike along it. There’s a dog park and a pretty popular skate park, a bunch of tennis courts, some playground equipment, and short trails running along each side of the park, roughly parallel to the road. There’s a river running through it, and a tidal pond that is usually full of ducks and geese. Certain low-lying areas in the park are prone to flooding, and because a lot of the water there flows in from the Long Island Sound, it can smell a little foul around low tide. But overall it’s a nice place to have nearby.
Sarah C — Google review
Beautiful park, highly recommend. Farmer's market, skatepark, playground... and I need to keep exploring so I'm sure I'm missing other things. One afternoon I was walking around and saw some dancers practicing. This seems like a vibrant and eclectic community center, a park that embodies everything wonderful about Connecticut. I'm excited to go back asap! :)

At the Apple New Haven store, visitors can explore a sleek and modern environment filled with the latest technology, including iPhones and iPads. Customers have shared delightful experiences with knowledgeable staff members like Nick and Joha, who go above and beyond to assist. Nick not only helped one customer transition from purchasing an Apple Watch to taking advantage of a student discount on an iPad but also stayed late to ensure everything was set up perfectly for their needs.
No lines great staff fixed our iPhone for no charge. They could have sold us a screen protector and lots of accessories but didn’t push anything on us. Truly wonderful tech guys.

Extremely disappointing experience. We walked in to make a simple purchase, but not a single staff member offered assistance—or even acknowledged us. After standing around for over 15 minutes, we left empty-handed and frustrated. Apple used to be known for stellar customer service, but this store feels like a completely different company. The staff were careless, unhelpful, and seemed completely uninterested in doing their jobs. Zero support, zero professionalism. Definitely not coming back.
Yancy N — Google review
I’ve been to this Apple location a few times, one time I had an excellent experience but every single time after that was underwhelming. My first experience was with an amazing lady who helped me to pick out the right MacBook for me and got me tons of discounts that I didn’t even know that I was eligible for, she was a true lifesaver. Every time after though I feel as if maybe they’ve gotten so busy that they didn’t realize that they’ve been serving each client as if they were the same person, some are super techie and some are just learning how to use a phone… there are different tiers of users so when you speak to everyone with the same tone it sometimes will either overwhelm someone or make the next person feel belittled. Definitely not how anyone looking to learn or make a big purchase should feel. Personally I had an appointment and arrived 15 mins early, checked in and wasn’t attended to by “genius” till about 45 mins after my appointment, given the staff was super nice to me and I can’t complain about how they treated me while I was being helped but the inconvenience of such a long wait while having a standing appointment is ridiculous to me. I honestly almost just walked out because I seen people walk in after me and were attended to before me. I mean I showed up early to make sure I don’t waste my time or anyone else’s. Like I said before, it’s not my first time at this place and my first experience was fantastic but also every experience after was subpar. The reason I gave a 3star rating was because I don’t feel that they uphold the best standards of a luxury tech company, they have proper knowledge of the equipment that they sell but not a good grasp on customer service and the diversity of the customers that they “serve”, I’m sure at some point in the future I may go back but I highly doubt it as I can just order my products online. Who knows… maybe I may visit again and have a great experience and change my mind but for now they get a solid 3 from me. *store was super clean and organized

I had a great experience yesterday with a smart, efficient, kind and organized employee who stepped out of her floor manager role to expedite my appointment while still staying tuned in to that job. The kind of employee everyone wants to have helping them. Outstanding!

Today I was killed in my most trusted Apple store At noon today, my master said that I went to her most trusted Apple store because my current running speed was a little slow and my master wanted to adjust me to be faster. We were received by a female clerk. After she asked about the situation, she said that she wanted to reinstall the system. My data had been backed up before, so she started to reinstall. During the process, she said that because I was over 10 years old, it would take about an hour. She asked my master if she could wait? My master said no problem. After reinstalling for a while, she should be off work soon. She told me to wait here. After a while, another male clerk came to continue to follow up on my case. We did not see the two of them handing over my situation, and the male clerk did not ask about my situation. The male clerk saw that the program on my computer screen was not running, and it was about 90% completed, and then he pressed the restart button. During this process, the male clerk only asked for my master's contact information, that is, name and email address. As a result, the male clerk restarted and I could not run at all. When I came, it was fine, but it was slow. Now I was killed in this Apple store. I have been with my master for 10 years, accompanied my master through thousands of mountains and rivers, recorded her joys and sorrows in the past 10 years, and turned my master into an Apple fan in the past 10 years. As a result, I was killed by the Apple store she trusted the most today because I dared not come to my side. I came here fine, and I didn't even have other opportunities. I was killed in the Apple store. For 10 years, I have been inseparable from my master. Looking at the computer case and beautiful decorations in my home, my master was clearly sad. Why did the two clerks not hand over my important computer in person during the reinstallation process? The second one, the male clerk saw that the program had not been completed, asked about the situation and restarted it directly. Maybe it is a matter for them to deal with every day, but for my master, this ruined my master's 10 years of companionship. Therefore, my master complained about today's maintenance matters and needs your help.

Really great experience. Genius Bar tech folks were fabulous and patient when helping me getting a phone replacement and transferring all my data. They even called me the next day before sending out my old phone to make sure everything had transferred to my new phone.

The staff were very polite and gave me great advice. I ended up buying a 16e. But I realized that now with ChatGPT, store staff don’t really need to know a lot to answer all kinds of questions — they just need to look it up, haha.

Absolutely the worst Apple Store I have ever been in. I had a set appointment. Waited 30 minutes for a representative to not be able to answer my questions. Save yourself the time and aggravation and look elsewhere because if this poor sales experience is what Apple is selling I can only imagine their help support would be non existent

Live music bar
Live music venue
Cafe Nine is a vibrant and lively gathering place located at 250 State St in New Haven. Despite its modest size, it offers a high-energy atmosphere with regular live music events and stand-up comedy shows. The venue features a full bar and impresses visitors with its friendly service and reasonably priced drinks. Whether you're into jazz, open mic nights, or simply looking for a great spot to enjoy some live music on a Saturday night, Cafe Nine has something for everyone.
Stopped by for their Saturday Jazz Jam and met some incredible people. It was packed at 530 but several made room for us 2. I understand it's been going on for almost 40 years and it showed. Stellar musicians that could warrant an expensive ticket anywhere else

Great music great vibes. Leaving stars out for Wednesday bartender who has a horrible attitude once he's mad he takes it out on everyone. He never once spoke to me, sat there and told a homeless guy off (cool do what you have to dude) and then yelled at me that he supposedly told me they had no more pbrs and I was pissing him off too and to leave.... all I did was say pbr... punk is punk but taking anger out on random people is whack dude

Very small venue. Not a lot of great places to sit down and enjoy the music. Waited a bit for a bartender to acknowledge me. Also the music was so loud that they couldn't hear my questions at first.

If you love a good bar, with always amazing music, and very cheap tickets/drinks then come here! They always have an amazing experience and fun night, plus the bartenders are super cool! Patty's amazing!

Came through on a run of shows. Im a poppunk musician from Maryland. Bartender was great, Sound was great. Cool atmosphere. My fiancé and I came early to have a few drinks and food while watching a full brass band. Fun times. I played at night and the gentleman running the door for tickets was awful. Extremely rude to myself, friends, the other bands and patrons that came to support the show for no reason. No idea what all of the attitude was about because it put everyone in a crappy mood however the venue was really fun to play at, bartender and gentleman running sound was great. Would definitely revisit however stay away from the grumpy man at the door 🤣

My first time at Cafe Nine was for their incredible jazz open mic on Saturdays. From there, I've been there a few times at various times of the week, and there is always cool music (across genres) and good vibes. It's now my favorite place to go in New Haven! ♥

The CitySeed Wooster Square Farmers' Market is a vibrant and bustling market with over 25 vendors offering a diverse range of products, including fresh produce, mushrooms, honey, milk, eggs, and forest-raised pork. The market is known for its chic and fashionable atmosphere where friendly vendors offer unique items like cold soups, pickled goods, and a variety of mushrooms. Visitors can also find delicious baked goods, bagels, coffee, and even dog food at this lively market.
Even as a visitor (as in, someone without a kitchen for storing and cooking produce), there was so much for us to enjoy at this market! There are wonderful prepared food vendors slinging all kinds of delightful treats. I only wish I had more stomach space!

I love the Wooster Square Farmers Market on Saturday mornings! The atmosphere is always lively, and it’s a great spot to grab a coffee and enjoy some delicious pizza. There are so many local vendors, you can find everything from farm-fresh products, flowers, and vegetables to fresh fish. Definitely one of my favorite ways to start the weekend!
Caroline O — Google review
during the winter time it was a little less crowded and a lot less booths but amazing choices from mushrooms to honey to fresh milk and fresh eggs even Forest raised pork.... Now that summer's come around, it's starting to bustle with the excitement. What a wonderful place and the most the most beautiful flowers
R P — Google review
The irony was delicious: In a neighborhood famous for Frank Pepe's and Sally's legendary pizza, you couldn't find a decent tomato. That absurdity sparked what four frustrated Wooster Square neighbors started in 2004 — a farmers market that has quietly become one of Connecticut's most successful experiments in food equity and community development. Twenty-one years later, the CitySeed Wooster Square Farmers' Market occupies the spacious parking lot of Conte West Middle School, its neat rows of white tents stretching beneath mature maples like a temporary village. On a recent overcast Saturday, the market hummed with the unhurried energy of genuine neighborhood infrastructure rather than weekend entertainment. "Whoa, honey, this is good," a customer told me, echoing a Yelp reviewer's rapture over Andrew's Local Wildflower Honey. Andrew Coté, a fourth-generation beekeeper whose urban hives stretch from Westchester to Manhattan's Waldorf Astoria, represents the market's remarkable vendor quality — serious producers, not hobbyists. The Jitter Bus, a converted coffee truck, anchors one end as the unofficial town square. Customers queue for Saturday caffeine while dogs socialize and families browse Seacoast Mushrooms' impressive fungi display. SoNo Baking Co. draws its own loyal following, their tent positioned strategically near the school's covered walkway. This isn't farmers market as lifestyle accessory. CitySeed doubles SNAP benefits for fresh produce, serves 55,000 customers annually, and generated a record $1.58 million for farmers and food entrepreneurs last year. The organization's Sanctuary Kitchen trains refugee women as chefs, creating jobs while expanding New Haven's culinary landscape beyond Italian-American traditions. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the market's move from cramped Wooster Square Park to the school parking lot — a stroke of accidental genius. The paved surface ensures accessibility, wide aisles accommodate strollers and wheelchairs, and vendor setup becomes far more professional. "The neighborhood is not like it was," notes longtime resident Teresa Scarpellino, 95, who witnessed decades of change. But CitySeed has found ways to honor tradition while embracing evolution. In a district where cherry blossoms bloom near century-old pizza ovens, where refugee cooks serve alongside Italian grandmothers, the market embodies New Haven's complex identity. The producer-only policy means everything sold was grown by the person selling it — no resellers or distributors. This stricture, unusual among farmers markets, creates authentic connections between consumers and the land feeding them. By 10 a.m., regulars arrive with reusable bags and shopping lists, their purposeful browsing revealing weekly routines rather than tourist curiosity. Children pet friendly dogs while parents select vegetables from 50-plus Connecticut vendors, many of whom have anchored the market for years. What began as four neighbors' quest for fresh tomatoes has evolved into something rarer: a profitable social enterprise that actually strengthens community fabric. In an era when "authentic" often signals manufactured nostalgia, CitySeed offers the real thing — a market rooted in genuine need, sustained by community loyalty, and expanded through principled growth. As I watched customers stream between tents beneath threatening clouds, nobody seemed worried about rain. This market clearly serves needs deeper than weekend leisure. In Wooster Square, Saturday morning shopping has become Saturday morning belonging.

I've been to Farmers Markets in CO and AZ. I think this one is the best of any I've been to. It has some of the most unique items I've ever seen. The cold soups were great. The pickled items were amazing. I could not believe the variety of mushrooms offered. The unique Ice cream and more.

Sterling Memorial Library, the main library building of Yale University, is a stunning example of Gothic Revival architecture designed by James Gamble Rogers. Open to the public, it offers visitors the chance to admire its atmospheric design, including a beautiful coffered ceiling and lofty pointed arches in the main nave. As the largest library at Yale, it houses impressive collections and features multiple rooms for study and exhibitions.
I visited the Sterling Memorial Library at Yale, and bro, I was completely blown away! This place is an absolute gem, especially since it’s open to the public. The architecture is stunning, with its old-world charm and intricate details that make you feel like you’re stepping into history. What I loved most were the many spaces available—there are so many cozy nooks and grand rooms to explore, study, or just soak in the atmosphere. It’s perfect for anyone looking for inspiration or a quiet spot to reflect. If you’re into beautiful libraries with a welcoming vibe, Sterling Memorial Library is a must-visit. You’ve got to check it out!

Beautiful library with stunning Gothic interior and an interesting exhibition of historic pharmaceutic artifacts. The courtyard is an oasis of calamity but it can also get very busy as do the reading rooms which otherwise are a great place to work, relax and learn.

After the University of Chicago, Yale is my second favourite university in the United States. It’s an incredible place and a must-visit for anyone coming to New Haven for the first time. The architecture is stunning, surrounded by parks and cherry blossoms in spring. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the people are genuinely kind. A place where history, beauty, and culture come together in the best way.

Beautiful architecture inside and out. You can visit it for free during the day. This is an operating library and study area, so please be respectful of the patrons. I have seen guided tours of the building, not sure how often those take place. Also, security will conduct a bag check on your way out.

I loved that Sterling Memorial Library was open to the public—it felt welcoming. The Collegiate Gothic architecture stood out for its vaulted ceilings and stone detailing, but it didn’t feel over-the-top. The stained-glass windows were a nice touch and added visual interest

Wow this building is beautiful! I think it’s gothic. It’s gorgeous, massive, and feels solid. It’s at least a few hundred years old. The inside has intricate architecture, and the ceiling is beautiful and arched and made of wood. If you are here to actually checkout books they have plenty, and many are old which is cool. The place is very quiet.

Loved shopping at this UO! I really like how the store is both timeless and trendy. I think the prices are a bit on the mid-higher range. But I appreciate the style and it’s popularity. It was pretty tidy and well organized when I visited. Also very easy to find things.

this urban outfitters has such good stuff! i was about to spend all my money here, no joke. they had a sale when i was there and my bank account completely lost it. the interior is also gorgeous with lots of light. the actual design of the place is better than any of the others i've seen. staff wasn't anything exceptional or outstanding, just nice people. but i thought the actual store was probably one of my favorites.

There’s something abstract about this store. It’s so distinctive from the everyday store; very unconventional more like, from the way the clothes are displayed to the music on the background-very creative. The owner of this store must’ve worked with a very good creative director. I was very pleased when I visited; almost didn’t want to leave. You can feel this aura of calmness and tranquility. I still have a mental picture of the way I was welcomed me as I stepped into store. Their stuff are good and the price is pretty moderate too. There’s also a wheelchair accessible entrance for the differently abled. The store is very close to the road and can be easily seen from a car in normal traffic.

Coming here is a hit or miss for me. I’ve come here straight from work one afternoon, business/casually dressed and was profiled and followed. I ended up leaving without purchasing anything. I returned last week (although I shouldn’t have, but they have suchhhh cute sh!t) and, although there were a great selection of clothes, more size & length variations are needed. None of the associates were engaging or really asking if I needed help until I went into the dressing room to try on a dress and that is when I encountered Mark. Omg you are a star! Super personable and helpful, super charismatic, so soft spoken just a kind guy. So I’ll give it 3 stars because of Mark! Mark if you see this, keep being who you are because you ROCKKKK!!!!

About average for an Urban Outfitters. Not an exceptional level of selection compared to other locations. Similarly designed with lots of light, which is nice. Staff is helpful and pleasant. Main drawback is street parking only since you're in downtown New Haven and they have no bathrooms (even for customers) so you either have to use the bathrooms at the Apple store or Donut Crazy down the street.

I really appreciate how she listened to my concerns and suggestions and basically helped me get the eventual style I want. Best thing, she only has wonderful things to say about my hair- definitely a confidence booster!!! For those who might want to know, women’s haircut starts at $45.

I've been going to Brenda for a really long time and she's always done a great job with my hair. She is constantly looking to improve her technique and is persistent in making sure her clients are satisfied. Over the years, I've noticed her do some really great things with my hair. She is someone who takes pride in what she does. If you are a man and get a short hair cut like a fade or a buzz, ask for a razor shave for your neck. It's a nice touch that adds some longevity to a fresh haircut. They do not offer full barber shaves however. The shop itself is quite small. Only two stylists right now. They have also switched to cash only. This is very recent but they try to remind you when you book an appointment.

I had a problem with my suit order, which was delayed because of UPS. Lucy was extremely helpful and solved the problem super quickly, offered a good alternative and was very transparent from the beginning to the end. Besides, she was of great service to try different suits, etc. Thanks!!

Store environment is okay, but what makes the overall experience subpar is the fact that staff always feel the need however, to watch over you when shopping which is quite uncomfortable, is definitely profiling and implying that you would steal which is completely unprofessional and unethical. The staff really isn't welcoming by any means unless looking at you like a hawk is their intention in being helpful and relatable?! If I'm being completely transparent the J.Crew brand is by far overrated and extremely expensive; not assessable to everyone and definitely not inclusive. You would have to take out a small loan just to purchase one garment let alone a full outfit which is truly unfortunate! This store needs an overhaul - The staff, the overall setup of the store, not aesthetically pleasing at all, very sterile. The employees should be more welcoming and willing to assist without having preconceived notions, opinions, etc. STOP PROFILING and assuming people can't afford the items in the store. Poor customer service is by far their downfall!

Residents have praised the well-maintained gym and clean facilities, making it an ideal place for those seeking comfort and convenience. The move-in process is notably seamless, thanks to attentive staff like Stephen Oliveras, who ensures everything runs smoothly from start to finish.
We moved in about 2 weeks ago and my partner and I are really enjoying living here at 9th Square Apartments. Great maintained gym, clean buildings, package room easy-to-use, and a great community. Stephen made our transition super smooth and it's easy to get in touch with staff or maintenance if issues arise, but we haven't experienced any issues so far.

I'm a current resident at this place. I love my apartment! I love the location! The staff are nice and friendly too. But, I have been wanting to bring up a few problem regarding the cleanliness and hygiene in our building. Inside my apartment is clean and well kept, but the common areas.... Getting off from the elevator and walking to my apartment - the carpet in the hallway smells like pee. Few weeks ago, there was pee and poop in one of the elevators. I have already raised this issue, when the building people came for inspection, but I have not seen any carpet replacement happening. The stairway is smelly too. I want to host an end of semester party in my apartment. I feel ashamed to invite my colleagues over. I don't want them to get grossed out while walking to my apartment. I like my apartment, I would like to continue staying here. But I would also like, to not have to pinch my nose shut, close my eyes or feel disgusted while taking the elevator and walking to my apartment. I'm sure the building management is aware of these issues. I hope they take necessary actions soon.

I currently live here at ninth Square. The staff is very friendly and I love my apartment, it is spacious, has a washer and dryer, and plenty of storage. However, the lack of consideration from people around, the parking garage gate consistently being broken, and a lack of cleanliness has really taken a toll on my experience here. I live on the fourth floor directly on Orange Street, and the excessive noise from other night square residents is ridiculous. I see tenants come out of the building across the street, set up a giant speaker, and blast music until 3 AM. No one seems to give a shit because there is no security patrolling or enforcement of noise control. But there is constant, excessively loud, music that is always coming from Orange Street, regardless of the time of day. Otherwise, living here would be great, but no one seems to care about their surroundings or own a pair of headphones. The parking garage we pay monthly for on George Street is fine. But the gate beside the ninth Square office that leads you to the parking garage is 50% of the time broken. This being said, you have to walk around the entire building, which adds on more than 10 minutes to your morning routine, which is extremely frustrating considering how much we pay for the parking garage. The cleanliness, is not always a huge issue, and I know ninth square is not at fault for inconsiderate and careless neighbors, but There could be a little bit more maintenance done to the carpets, paint on the wall walls, and doors. Overall, the price to live here is ridiculous. Considering the better options and surrounding areas. I enjoy my unit and appreciate the flexibility of the staff, but I hate listening to Post Malone blasting from a resident who lives on top of until 3 AM on a Tuesday night. I have called the police for noise complaints multiple times, and will continue doing so.

I don’t recommend this place. Hygiene of the hallway and stairwells are not maintained, always smells like urine. There are a bunch of safety concerns, they should consider either security or working with the New Haven Alders/city. Here are some examples, people living in the stairwells, packages constantly getting stollen, people following and pushing their way into the buildings. The parking garage isn’t safe either. We pay 9th Square cause they own the parking garage. For some strange reason cars are constantly getting broken into or stollen, people are sneaking into the garage between the hours of 12 and 4pm I know this cause work and come home between those hours and a couple of my neighbors mentioned they’ve alerted the complex and nothing has been done. This isn’t a just a Laz problem it’s a 9th square problem. They also don’t communicate when there are staff changes, so a lot of times it hard to get in touch with someone. I checked out a few of my neighbors apartments in the different buildings. So you have neighbors that have been here a long time and they won’t work with them to update the apartments. Carpet should be change almost every 10 years and they don’t do that. They update the apartments by increasing the rent to get people to move out and then they update the apartment. I spoke with some of the contractors they work with and they even mentioned 9th square will do the bare minimum when updating the apartments. It’s also been brought to my attention James the maintenance man has been in appropriate with some of the women tenants. 9th square has a lot of work to do and the rent they are charging isn’t worth it.

Ten Thousand Villages is a remarkable retailer dedicated to fair trade, offering an extensive array of crafts and housewares sourced from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. This New Haven location is part of a global initiative that empowers artisans by ensuring that proceeds directly benefit their communities. The store features beautifully crafted home decor, personal accessories, and unique gift items that reflect the rich cultures of developing nations. Visitors often rave about the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the staff.
There are such beautiful and unique items here. The Christmas and Hanukah decorations are a great reason to stop in.

I first shopped her in the 90s and I haven't stopped. Now that I am a resident New Haven and not just visiting, I find this my go to place for great gifts but also to decorate my apartment. And it always smells so good. Staff is knowledgeable as always. If you can't find it here you may just not need it just yet. Supporting them is a great part of this community.
Sabrina W — Google review
Ive been stopping into this location for years and mostly because I like the staff. They are so sweet and welcoming. Even when the phone is ringing, I get their undivided attention to help me with what ever product im purchasing. Makes me feel special, (even if the phone is ringing excessively they may ask for me to give them a moment to answer the call) but i respect the attention given to the in-store customer. The manager Shaams has a calming demeanor and is knowledgeable of the product. The information sheets given on the products i purchase i always appreciate. As a woman that has her own business and creates with my own hands, i appreciate hand made pieces like the ones in this shop. Yes things can be pricey, but it's hand made! No one seems to complain about an over price bag from some of these well known designers that are mass produced in factories with no love or care. The amount of work that goes into what i do for my clientele is why i appreciate this place. I know what it's like to put hard work into creating something. The employee Dave is such a sweet heart! He speaks low and calm but it kinda gives this relaxing effect lol. He has learned my name and greets me in a joyful manner which is why i keep coming back. From jewelry, to bags, to their AMAZING cotton robes (which ive also purchased for friends and family) this place is like one of those magic shops in Harry Potter to me. A place that soothes me to walk into, it has an energy all it's own. I hope this place, the manager and staff stay around for years to come. Keep up the amazing work guys! Looking forward to the new decor for the season change.

The smallness of the store belies the great diversity of product--coffee, tea, chocolates, home decor, jewelry, and accessories--offered by Ten Thousand Villages in New Haven. All of the products are fair trade, with orders fully paid to the artisans and farmers (suppliers) at the time of shipment. You can find gifts here from $4 to $400, for ages eight to eighty. It's a fun place to shop and chat with the sales team about international travel and artisan craft. A great place to purchase holiday gifts for the family or a spa set for yourself. One recommend: Beautiful, hand-carved hummingbird ornaments, made from tagua nut--a vegetable alternative to ivory. Elegant and delicate.
Jeanna F — Google review
This tiny store offers unique fair trade crafts from around the world - jewelry, lighting, household goods, clothing, toys, coffee and chocolate...It is the perfect place to buy a special gift. So sorry to see it is closing! The sign in the window announces an everything must go sale. I will miss it. Shopping online is not the same!
Elaine P — Google review
A fair-trade company that puts supports the originating communities from which the products are sourced. We especially like the trio of spice-scented soaps (nutmeg, cinnamon and clove), presented in a lovely draw-string bag perfect for gift giving. Chocolate-lovers should head straight to the selection of fair trade cocoa-based items. Both the mint and dark chocolate bars are good, but the winner is the one with a ginger-lemon-pepper essence. Smooth with bits of crunch. Grab one for a friend, and one for yourself.

I absolutely love the fake review posted from Stacie Smith, which was conveniently posted literally (1) day after my review, I find it ironic how Stacie's review tries to contradict everything I stated in my review with the effort of talking about the store manager by name LOL, the atmosphere, the way in which people are treated and the over pricing of items - this is completely humorous, why post a fake review to contradict what I have to say if you're not guilty of anything? "Very sketchy" And, I know for a fact that this review is fake because the last time Ten Thousand Villages on Chapel Street was reviewed by anyone was approximately 5 months ago. Try again!! I stand by my review.....Manager Shaams is unprofessional, disrespectful, and quite ignorant, at best he IS a Karen! - He feels the need to talk down to people and act as if he's highly educated and above everyone else which is the farthest from the truth! This company/store preaches so much about a global maker-to-market movement that addresses economic injustice yet, you're disrespected and disregarded by staff "pioneering fair trade and putting people and the planet first" is laughable and completely contradictory to the company's vision which is quite alarming and unethical when this company allows their staff to be employed at a store that displays such distasteful behavior! - This store is expensive as hell for basic home goods, etc. that you can get anywhere and yet, the atmosphere and behavior exhibited by staff and the store manager is unwelcoming and very upsetting; take your money elsewhere!! Not worthy of even one star!
Monsieur F — Google review
Unique, quaint store with an array of handmade artifacts that include jewelry, accessories, home décor, etc. - I have enjoyed my visits to this shop and have spent hundreds of dollars on both, the accessories & jewelry for my Mother because 'she loves one-of-kind items' however, one of the older gentlemen is a bit annoying - he is polite but, reiterates the same questioning as to what you may be looking for, etc. and seems to follow behind you when shopping which I find to be very unnecessary, the other con is the high prices which is a bit much at times...You do have to keep an eye out on the pricing because you will be overcharged and/or gipped if you don't keep a keen eye. Nice store and wonderful vision for the artisans that are assisted through the profits made at Thousand Villages, however better customer service and better pricing would be nice!!

Blue Mercury changed my skincare for the better! I have yet to be steered wrong by any of the staff there, Pablo has given me the absolute best recommendations and I look forward to the guidance from the people there when I walk in. My favorite skincare line is M61. It's effective and affordable, and I see results instantly. I love that their products are high-end. I purchase bath salts and scrubs here! Heading to Blue Mercury is a 'treat-yourself' mission that always leads to the best self-care routines at home!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Blue Mercury location at Yale, and I cannot express enough how wonderful my experience was, thanks to Patricia. From the moment I walked in, she was incredibly welcoming and attentive, immediately making me feel at ease. I even called beforehand and she was welcoming before even walking into the store! Patricia's expertise and knowledge about the products were impressive; she took the time to understand my specific needs and preferences, ensuring that every recommendation was tailored just for me. It's clear that Patricia is passionate about her work and genuinely cares about the clients she serves. She goes above and beyond to ensure that every visit is a memorable one, and her dedication to excellence shines through in everything she does. I sincerely hope that her contributions are recognized within the company because she is a true asset to Blue Mercury. Her talent, kindness, and professionalism deserve to be acknowledged, and I look forward to returning for her expert guidance in the future.

Some perfumes don’t have testers and the workers aren’t allowed to open a new box to allow people to test it. I don’t like regretting my purchases so I personally need to smell the perfume before actually buying it.

Quentin provided me with a very satisfying service. He listens carefully to my needs and finds the products I need. He is very knowledgeable about the facial care products offered and provides easy-to-understand information. The Blueberry shop has professional and good products, so it was a fun day to buy them!

I went in about a month ago to buy some standard skincare and was extremely happy with the customer service that I received from Quentin. Quentin was patient, attentive, and had great recommendations. I made sure that on my next makeup haul I would make my way down to blue mercury because I was so pleased with the service (much better than some of the other makeup stores I’ve been to lately). And sure enough I was please yet again, I was lucky enough to be helped by Quentin again. I left with the perfect shade of foundation and some amazing new makeup that I can’t wait to try on :). Quentin is amazing and such a great person to pick out skincare and makeup with.

Amazing service and quality! I worked with Quentin who immediately understood all my makeup requests down to the minute details. He directed me towards products with honesty and knowledge about each one. I definitely felt his commitment to finding me the right product. Recommended!

This store has a bunch of products that I love, but the customer service…lackluster. When I walked in, I wasn’t greeted verbally or even acknowledged. My only interaction with an employee made me feel like I wasn’t welcome in the store. I greeted an employee and she didn’t look up from testing makeup on her hands. She didn’t offer to help me, which is fine, but she still didn’t look at me when I asked her for assistance. I cannot confirm that this was racially motivated, but my sister and I were the only black people in the store. The only other customer was white, and the sales associates were able to have an animated, cheerful conversation with her. Based on my intuition and other reviews citing discriminatory treatment from a blond woman with an attitude problem, I’d encourage other black people to stay away from shopping here. Others are welcome to avoid this store in solidarity!

Quentin is the BEST at listening to what you’re looking for and matching you with a great product. I’m not really a make up girl but Quentin picked out a few products for me that have turned out to be just what I needed. Whenever I pass Blue Mercury I peek in to see if he’s there - that’s how helpful he is!

Store is nicely decorated but items are overpriced and owner is not nice. No welcome or greeting upon entering the store. She had a cold attitude and was too busy pricing items instead of helping to show us items we were interested in purchasing. During my visits Victoria has been a wonderful resource for questions about pieces in the store and takes excellent care of all the products. An easy 5 stars ⭐

Since moving to New Haven a couple of years ago, my favorite way to brighten up any day is to visit Vintanthro and see Melissa and Victoria! The shop itself is so cozy and inviting that the pleasure of just looking at all the thoughtful design and organization of the space is enough to convince me to leave my house. Beyond the actual experience of the shop, I love visiting regularly because there are always new featured items from local artisans, great vintage finds, and everyday staples (candles, cards, teas). Vintanthro is my go-to place in New Haven - Melissa and Victoria have made it more of a destination than just a shop and I highly recommend it to anyone!

J. Press, a renowned haberdasher brand, has been the go-to destination for stylish gentlemen since the early 1900s. Nestled in New Haven, it embodies Ivy League fashion, attracting students who seek timeless pieces like the classic three-button sack suit and oxford cloth button-down shirts. Shoppers are often captivated by the vibrant yet high-quality clothing on display, which is presented in an inviting and spacious environment that encourages leisurely browsing without any pressure to purchase.
From made-in-USA khakis to tweed sports jackets, rugby shirts, to Duffel coats, to Alden’s, you just need to shop everything from head ti toe, and you’ll complete the dapper Ivy look. I’d love to spend a half day and coordinate everything.

Hunter L — Google review
This was my first visit to the new J.Press location in New Haven. I frequented the Boston store when it was still open. My first impressions were positive. The storefront was spacious, well decorated and had the same beautiful products. The service was initially a mixed bag. An older gentleman sitting by the door greeted me quite aggressively. He explained the layout of the store while watching something on his phone at an audible volume. I found this very off-putting. You would expect better etiquette when visiting such an established institution. When I went to browse the 2nd floor there was a younger employee who politely introduced himself. He shook my hand, asked for my name and let me browse at my own pace. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. This was the level of service I expected. I had no intention purchasing a sport coat but ended up with a new tweed jacket. It needed a few alterations and we agreed to have it shipped out. The jacket came much earlier than expected and it was perfect.

Jpress, particularly the wares and the wonderful staff at the New Haven shop is among the best outposts for quality, stylish, well-made menswear across the Northeast. Along with their own goods, the store carries Alden, Baracuta, along with a perfectly curated and exactingly produced accessories. (Folks may not know they also sell Orslow denim and have an excellent selection of collabs with the likes of Buck Mason.) I've been shopping there for many years. I will say that though I enjoy Jpress's tailoring, I enjoy the buying experience as much. Certainly the customer service and advice on the goods has helped me come back to Jpress, in particular back to the New Have store, time and again. I submit that Carl Casuga, my go-to-Jpress staff member--is among the best menswear experts out there. He makes the process of trying on and buying Jpress's excellent goods so simple and so rewarding. May Jpress continue on this path. May it support and reward good folks like Carl and Brian.

The Model American conservative men’s clothing store. Sets the example and raises the bar in execution, style, quality and service. Particularly in its ability to stock seldom seen traditional items which would be difficult to find or custom tailored at high cost here or abroad.
Clifford M — Google review
My husband and I have been in the shop a few times, never any pressure to buy, but hard to resist the colorful, high quality clothing. The displays are always neat, 'not in your face' and it was spacious enough for me to walk around while my husband browsed for some clothes. We had the pleasure of working with Carl for a new suit. It was by far the best customer service we've experienced. From being well dressed to having great knowledge and attention to detail, it was the perfect shopping experience. The finished product was perfect and we thank him for being able to ship it on such short notice.

The folks at Raggs are by far the most professional, thoughtful, and knowledgeable experts in garments and fashion I have ever encountered. I am young professional that is relatively clueless on men's business professional wear and was also on a relatively limited budget. Every suit I have left Ragg's with has been expertly and timely tailored, and the input of the staff has been invaluable. Tom and his staff have curated an exceptional selection of both men's and women's clothes ranging from casual weekend wear to top-tier suits. Whether you're a New Haven local or visiting alum, if you're in the market for fine clothes with phenomenal service, I'd strongly recommend Raggs.

I moved to the New Haven area in 2015 and was in search of a new tailor. I found the Theory brand at Raggs and have been buying from Tom Maloney (owner) ever since. He is personable, very knowledgeable about the industry, keeps a close tab on what is in fashion, and makes sure the selection in his store reflects current trends. Over the years I have gone in to see him and seek advice on what to wear for work, formals, and other special occasions and he has always delivered and been pleasant to work with. Tom is passionate about his trade and is a real asset to have in New Haven. I highly recommend Raggs and hope other people will stop in and support this excellent small business owner/operator.

Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Westville, Neville Wisdom Fashion Design Studio is a unique gem owned by the exceptionally talented designer Neville Wisdom. This fashion house has garnered a loyal following over the years, thanks to its commitment to style, quality craftsmanship, and environmental sustainability. By sourcing fabrics from local suppliers and ensuring that 80% of materials are utilized to minimize waste, Neville embodies a strong social conscience in his work. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in-house at their atelier.
Good service. Neville explained dress making process and was accommodating when I requested a change. Shop is lovely and I had prompt response to e-mails. Neville made my daughter the Belle of the Ball.
Simone S — Google review
I needed to get a suit tailored for a wedding and decided to support black business by going to Neville. I had walked past the shop many times and was intrigued because they have some really unique designs that look awesome in front of the store, but had never heard about their tailoring ability. Upon entering the shop, I was greeted kindly and had a chance to work with the tailor on the suit. I gave my specifications and things that I wanted to be done. When we went to the cash register, I was shocked that the job would cost $200. But since I went through the process, I obliged and paid the fee that was offered expecting a great product and result. Unfortunately, when I received my suit, it was unpressed, there were detailing errors and it was not fit to wear for the wedding that I hoped to have it for. In my opinion, after my experience, I would recommend going to this studio to see the designs that they have on display. I would not recommend going there to get a suit tailored or a similar piece created. After my experience, I believe that it is better to go to a place like K&G in Orange, Connecticut to get your suit tailored for a third of the price and three times the quality. As I stated earlier in my review, the people who work there are very kind, but the competence to tailor your clothing and at an affordable price, is lacking.
Brandon S — Google review
I would not recommend getting items tailored at this shop. Their work is incredibly sloppy and unprofessional. I went in to get one pant, one skirt and one top tailored. I needed one pant hemmed, one skirt taken in at the waist and one top taken in at the straps as the straps were too long. The shirt’s hemming was done jagged and too short. The tailor took in the top too high and did not even cut his fabric when he was taking in the strap, he just folded over the strap and sewed. So now on this shirt there is this inch think bulge where he “tailored” my shirt. I could have done that. The worst was the skirt I requested be taken in at the waist. Instead of taking in the skirt at the seam (cutting the fabric that needed to be removed at the waist and then stitching the seam back up), the tailor added darts where no darts had been. The worst part was that he didn’t even bother to add real darts. Instead, he used the same method as the shirt and just folded the fabric in on itself and sewed. Due to that, the waistband of the skirt was uneven and bulged out where he added the darts. After I pointed this out, he removed the darts and then handed back the skirt to me, not taken in at the waist but as it was originally. I asked for a refund only on the skirt and he refused to give it to me. He also insisted that he told me he planned to add darts and I said he did not. He said he would have charged $250 if he had known I wanted this mini pencil skirt taken in at the waist along the seam. Please avoid this place.

I really hate doing this but this service/apparel purchase was unacceptable. Ii placed my order on April 25, expecting an early June delivery for a girl's trip. Called and spoke with the shop on the first of June expecting to receive it by June 9 at the latest because my trip was June 14th. I just received the item today, yes September 1 over 4 months for a delivery!!!! If they're just starting out buyer beware. I'm out of state and have no recourse for a resolution because they don't refund your money. I paid for a luxury item and all I got was an example of something that I may have purchased from China and with worst quality because it doesn't even fit. I really tried to support a small minority business but if I send it back will it take another 4 months?? I paid almost $400 for a horrible lesson in supporting the culture.

I went to make a return and the manager, I’m assuming, jumped in immediately and got snarky with me about their return policy, which is exchange or store credit only. The other associate was very sweet but the manager was rude and extremely unpleasant. I had the necklace (which was overpriced and not very cute) less than a week and I disagree with the policy but the way I was treated was unacceptable and despite being a local I won’t ever be shopping at any Lou Lou location again, and I will make certain no one I know does, either. Do better, especially that specific manager. I’m in customer service and we would never treat someone that way.

I was in the store today and purchased a necklace. Upon returning home and taking it out of tissue paper saw that the necklace and shells on it were discolored. I immediately called the store and wanted a replacement but was told they didn’t have another one and I could only receive store credit instead of a refund. I was told by the manager if she had noticed it was discolored before she sold it to us she never would have sold it. She said store policy is only store credit which normally I would understand however the $55 necklace was defective. I could not believe how an exception couldn’t be made given the necklace was discolored which was not visible with the store lighting. SUCH BAD BUSINESS!!!!

This store has hand made jewelry are so beautiful cute🥰 and other little stuff . But if your a curvy or please size person don't even bother to shop for clothes here because they don't have it . This is in New Haven you think they change this because not everyone in new Haven are super small . I believe in yall Lou Lou put up them cute plus ➕ sizes and get someone that knows real cute plus size fashion not that old ugly stuff lol 😹 . Much love Lou Lou y'all got this 🥰😀

I am OBSESSED with this place! There is something exciting to find everywhere you look. I visit New Haven annually and always set aside at least an hour to visit Lou Lou because it takes several laps around the store before I even see everything. I get tons of compliments on the accessories I buy there and it’s always a really pleasant place to shop. Kira, the manager, is helpful and attentive. It is one of my most favorite shopping destinations and I look forward to it far in advance. The prices are affordable, the pieces are long-lasting and there are styles for every taste. My only complaint is that their website is not updated enough so I can buy from them even when I am far from New Haven!! I could not recommend Lou Lou in New Haven highly enough!! It is a MUST visit destination when in New Haven.

Lou Lou Boutiques has quite an array of jewelry, fashionable accessories, knickknacks, etc. I have made several purchases and have enjoyed all the items including those that I gifted to loved ones; nice options, polite staff, great savings with the student discount, nice packaging when requested, a bit pricey depending on what you purchase but, overall a good experience!!

Such a wonderful place. It was my first time. So many vendors with such a variety of veggies and other foods as well as non food items. Nice couple was playing jazz in the background. I understand different musicians every week. When it warms up everyone goes outside to a small park around the corner. I can't wait!

This review is for Sanctuary Kitchen. Been happily ordering meals from them during the COVID pandemic and it is great! Delicious food that is well labelled (so we know the new things that we are trying). And it even came with pamphlets about our cooks and their stories (those are on our fridge now). Thank you!

City Seed is a fantastic Farmer's Market. It has many vendors, and types of foods that are of fantastic quality, and you usually get to meet the people who grow what you buy. Most people who shop at farmer's markets do so because they can afford to. The items are usually of top shelf quality, and it shows in the prices that these local farmers, who do not operate under the same conditions as say...Monsanto, or your local mega mart shopping center. I am not one of those people, after years of living comfortably my health has declined, and I am now receiving food stamps to supplement my need for food. City Seed matches $10.00 of tokens with $10.00 of your EBT/snap card. I can't tell you how important it is to be able to get fresh foods of this quality, and be able to effectively get $20.00 of produce and items for $10.00 of my EBT monthly credit. It makes it a VALUE, and I get to eat GOOD foods, fresh grown locally. It is hugely important, and many people who otherwise would never be able to buy at a farmer's market, now can. But, I liked it just as much when I wan't recieving SNAP benefits too...go there, it's awesome. And the different locations, have different vendors, so it's worth a shop around, the cheeses are incredible. Thank you.

I am visiting New Haven and visited EBM Vintage this week. It has been a highlight of the day when I visited. The store is amazing with wonderful selection of items and great prices. It is by far one of the best vintage stores I have visited and I do my fair share of visits to vintage stores in Europe and the East coast in the US. Highly recommended this store. The staff is amazing too, attentive and helpful.

A well kept time capsule. Wonderful vintage items all taken care of and clean! The store is way bigger than I imagined with multiple sections and very well organized. Most items had tags (wish more vintage stores did this) and the staff is very helpful! The clothing section was my favorite one there was so much stuff to pick from.

The cutest vintage store owned by the sweetest lady. When my girlfriend and I walk around new haven we always stop by too see what new antiques they have here. We've procured some delightful pool balls and postcards and is our go to spot to buy some unique gifts for friends and family. The store is very big with a lot of options with very friendly staff (outside of just the owner)
