Mountain peak
Mont Saint-Clair is a 600-foot-high peak offering stunning panoramas of the city and sea. It features a chapel, viewing deck, and a white cross marking its summit at 175 meters. The hilltop provides exceptional views of Sete, with its canals, port, and beach, as well as the Thau Archipelago.
Very nice view on Sete

A wonderful place to have the entire view of the Sete, it takes 30 to go up and it could be windy. You should come here if you like the city view.
Beisong L — Google review
Such a great spot to take in the gorgeous canals of Sète and the Mediterranean views. Totally worth a visit!
Ali A — Google review
Sete is a lovely town. The climb to the top is quite something. However the view is rather remarkable.
Paul S — Google review
It's worth the visit❤️ 225 steps up to the mountain!! Dominating the Mediterranean at a height of 175 meters at sea level, Mont Saint-Clair is an ancient volcano which gives a very particular silhouette to the city of Sète. From its summit, a magnificent panorama overlooks the canals and its port, the Richelieu citadel, the lighthouse and the famous marine cemetery where Paul Valéry, the French writer, poet and philosopher has been buried since 1945.
Analyn R — Google review
It’s a long hike from the city center but an amazing panoramic view of Sete at the top. Not the best road for a steep hike. Been there, done that and I’m glad I checked it off my list.

Espace Georges Brassens is a museum and cultural workshop in Sete, dedicated to the renowned French singer and poet Georges Brassens. The space pays homage to his cultural legacy, showcasing his life, work, and influence on the French music scene. Visitors can explore voice-guided tours that offer insight into Brassens' poetic and socially conscious lyrics. Additionally, the museum features a gallery of modern art known as Musee International des Arts Modestes.
My wife is a fan of many years who was delighted to find a Museum of George's on our visit to Sete. Although I don't speak French there's a English audio guides but none of the exhibits have translations. Even so I enjoyed the whole presentation with an In Concert which was very good, my wife translated the gist of the individual songs.

Amazingly unfriendly man & 1 woman at reception. The other woman seemed nice but didn't get much of a say. We arrived at 0945 in Sète & by the time we got to the place by bus it was 11AM. The guy moaned we hadn't left enough time & should come back at 2PM but there seems to be nothing nearby. He was more interested in not having you there & getting you out for their 2 hour lunch than sharing this place with you. It's mostly just an audio tour, albeit a good one. You can likely get the videos online & fill in the rest with a biography. If it was better located with vastly better staff it would be worthwhile.

Étang de Thau, the largest lake in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, offers a serene and scenic setting for various activities. The lagoons are home to a variety of shellfish and connect to the ocean. Visitors can enjoy walks along the banks, encountering numerous animal species and diverse vegetation.
I love "Ethang de Thau" Lake with it's view of Séte, Balaruc-les- Baines and many more Villages.

along the shoreline of this beautiful lake there are multiple oyster farms transformed into restaurants, serving fairly priced fresh seafood of all sorts from clams, snails, oysters, shrimps, and all. i highly recommend to visit it during the early day, as most of these places do close quite early, and probably sell the catch of the day so if you come later some might already be sold out.

Yoann C — Google review
(Translated by Google) A very beautiful lake where you can swim, and even take a boat trip. Swimming is pleasant; the water is much warmer than the sea, although after 50 meters, you're right in the seaweed. The seaweed washed up on the banks has a strong smell, which is a bit unpleasant when you think about the surrounding area, but bearable. A shuttle bus is located on the lake, connecting Sète and Mèze by water, at a cost of €6 per trip. Boating on the lake is very pleasant, and swimming on the equipped beaches (sand, lifeguards) is enjoyable in warm weather. The crowds are more than adequate; no matter the day, you won't be stepping on each other's toes. In Mèze in particular, the Languedoc Jousting tournaments are held on the lakeside, adding yet another quality to this lake. In addition, a festival, the Thau Festival, takes place every year nearby. With music and views of the lake, a great time is guaranteed! I highly recommend it!

Laurens N — Google review
Great gallery with good cafe at the entrance! We were pleased to see the Martial Raysse exhibition which is on until 5 November.
Andrew S — Google review
Good exhibitions, but much of the floorspace is devoted to the paintings of various artists, and there’s limited information on the life of Paul Valéry outside of his experiences in occupied Paris. In some respects, I learned more from my guide book (e.g. Valéry’s intense interest in contemporary scientific inquiry) than from the museum! Nevertheless, what there is on the poet is well presented and the main exhibition when I visited (Philippe Cognée) was interesting

Théâtre de la Mer, formerly known as Fort Saint-Pierre, is a historic open-air theater located in Sete. Originally built as a fort to defend the city, it was later repurposed into a hospital and eventually transformed into a unique performance venue in the late 1950s. The theater hosts a variety of music and theatrical events throughout the year, with a focus on high season.
Lovely venue! Sete is a beautiful town and Théátre de la Mar made the Maia and Caravan Palace concert so much more memorable.
Babajeeds — Google review
It’s an unbelieveble venue. The sound, the sea, the fact that you can’t get huge crowds in it makes it the perfect venue for any type of concert.
Teresa P — Google review
It's a fabulous venue for live events. Seun Kuti was top drawer. I am au fait with a lot of his politics too btw. The support act was sublime too, dare I say it? Even better on the night!
Michael W — Google review
Théatre de la mer à Sète is a very very nice venue for live music. I went there to see thr Jazz à Sète vestival for Marcus Miller & Herbie Hancook (separate days) and both concerts were great however a few takeways from this: Take cash with you because you cannot pay with the card unless it’s 10 eur and above Staff removes water bottle caps and forcefully opens your drink for you even if you wanna drink or consume later The venue was 20-30% overbooked so there was no places for everyone to sit The transportation in and out was a bit complicated, out more than in as you have to wait 30 min after the show’s over to catch the small ferry back to where you’ve parked the car
Paul H — Google review

Visitors are drawn to its peaceful ambiance, beautiful waterfront views, and unique charm.
Amazing fishing village, with many strange, quirky and wonderful things to see. Cats are well looked after here. I met Michel Brel and his dad (bought his book), his father is now 96yrs old. Many stories to tell. Definitely worth a visit, it’s a place uninterrupted and life goes by peacefully.

La Pointe Courte is a traditional fishing district in northern Sète, bordered by the Canal Royal and the Étang de Thau. Established in the 19th century by fishermen who built homes on reclaimed land, it remains a close-knit community where locals still practice small-scale fishing and shellfish harvesting. Known for its narrow alleys, weathered houses, and visible maritime life, the neighborhood has resisted major tourism and retains its quiet, working-class character.

A nice gallery space, the exhibition was interesting apart from the many racist artworks by an artist named Herve di Rosa, a white man. His art works featured in the exhibition were nothing short of offensive towards black people and people of colour, and this type of work shouldn’t be given a platform. Disappointing Additionally, it would have been nice to have been able to access the central courtyard/garden area in the warmer weather, as this was closed.

Very fantastic museum. The permanent collection is wonderful and unique. It’s the kind of museum that really surprises you. There was an exhibition of 3D printings, not nearly as nice as the collection but interesting as well. The ladies in the entrance were really kind and kept our stroller for us. The access to the third floor might be a bit tricky for older people or someone with disabilities. Overall, if you are in Sète you should go to this place, it’s mindblowing.

For my visit there was an exhibition of psychedelic paintings which is not so much my thing. Also the permanent collection whilst impressive wasn't for me. However I believe the exhibition's change frequently, the museum is very charming and for the price of the ticket, worth a quick visit. :)

The Museum of the Sea, located in Sete overlooking the Mediterranean, offers a captivating journey through the maritime history of the region. The museum's sleek and sunlit interior houses an impressive collection of model ships from the 18th century, providing visitors with a glimpse into Sete's seafaring traditions.
Great as it was free (gratuit). Unfortunately, nothing is in English, but videos of "water jousting" didn't really require description.

I wanted to visit the museum and had a backpack with me as a day visitor to Sète. The lady at the reception, with whom I communicated in French, told me it was not possible for me to visit the museum as they do not have lockers for bags. After me a man came out with a (smaller) backpack and reassured me that he was able to visit the museum. Très très bizarre !!!

The museum in itself is very very small although it is organized well. It is located in what seems like a modern Mediterranean Villa just near the cemetery (which you should checkout). Generally it could be a good way to kill 45 but only if you speak French, There are no English explanations and no audio guide. We left knowing no more then when we came.

Strange that almost all the one star reviews of this place are from people who have posted less than 6 reviews…..We walked in (no reservation) to this off the beaten track, slightly bohemian, informal and had a great lunch on a table outside eating a delicious Tian de Legumes, a tasty Cabillaud (fish) au gratin with salad and chips, Burrata, and Tomato Salad, all served with a smile. €69 for 3 including drinks. By the time we left at 1400, it was packed. Highly recommended for informal lunch.

I heard good stuff about the Restaurant. The last time I was here, I was a bit late and could not enjoy there food, but still I was very welcome and had a good time. For that they should get 5 stars. Unfortunately not today, shortly after they opened, I asked if I can get some food and something to drink. I did not booked in advanced though, as I just cycled here. The staff showed me the menu but told me that it was not possible, as all the places were fully booked. At the time there were not many people there. That said the lady seemed to have a hard day, who knows. Maybe it was the language barrier. Such a pity, that they could not make place for one person at least for a drink and they made this clear in a bit of an assertive way. And that is the reason for the low rating this time, sorry. So, it seems you need to book in advanced as the restaurant filled up quickly.
Mathias S — Google review
It's not a bar anymore nor a coffee shop. They decided to go Tapas. The server was rude on arrival, but another was more friendly. As we sat several were turned away, as they had come for the bar. On the bright side the food was good. Expensive though. Apparently it was a good place once but now the quest for funds has overtaken the caché it once had.

The steep hike or drive to the summit rewards visitors with a 360-degree view of Sete. It's recommended to visit just before sunset to witness the stunning colors of the sky over the lake and sea.
It has a really great view, worth coming here. There is a public restroom and a snack/ice cream place nearby. The bus 5 stops right there, but plan well, as it only goes once an hour. We went on foot, but we did not use the stairs. We went on the streets from a beach. It was much easier than the stairs, if you were already near the first beach. We went down using stairs. It is much easier to go down using stairs. The views are not bad either.

Breathtaking Night Views Over Étang de Thau We visited Le Panoramique Sainte-Claire in Sète during the evening to avoid the summer heat — and it was absolutely worth it. The hike up at night was peaceful and gave us a unique way to enjoy the surroundings without the crowds or intense sun. Once at the top, the view over Étang de Thau and the city of Sète is simply magical. The lights of the town shimmer below, and the peaceful atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to take a breath, admire the beauty, and reflect. There are also charming star-shaped lights set into the pathway, adding to the dreamlike experience. Highly recommended for a quiet evening escape with panoramic views — just bring good shoes, a camera, and maybe even a little picnic.

Staying here felt like slipping into a gentler, more authentic rhythm of life — the kind that the South of France was famous for. The location couldn’t be more perfect: right in the center of the lovely, quiet town of Mèze, where whitewashed walls reflect the endless blue sky, washing on the line and the scent of the sea drifts through streets. Think Saint-Tropez in the 60s. The quiet port a street away is lined with charming cafés and some of the best fish restaurants you’ll ever try. It’s a human-sized town where everything is close, life moves at a slower pace, the community brings you in and each day feels like it’s touched by the sun. It is also a good launchpad for discovering the arrière-pays - the rolling hills and beautiful villages of the Hérault or set off for long bike rides down the Etang de Thau and the coast. The studio is comfortable, private, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you need — a fully fitted kitchen, private bathroom, balcony, and even space for bikes or sailboards. You have the freedom of your own entrance, the convenience of nearby parking, and the ease of laundry facilities. Inside feels like every detail has been considered, from fresh linens to a coffee maker, so you can truly relax. This is more than just a place to stay — it’s a place to breathe, to write, to paint, to enjoy simple pleasures, and to be taken care of by Barbara, a warm and attentive host who makes you feel instantly welcome. It’s for those who want to live like locals, take their time, and truly switch off.

(Translated by Google) We just stayed at an air b and b, on the port of the commune of Meze, very close to the large Tonneliers parking lot as our host had indicated. We had two vehicles with our friends. On the evening of July 13th, we were able to park without any problem in this large parking lot which was also full of cars for the festivities, far from imagining the surprise the next morning. No more cars! We are not used to reading the information on the illuminated signs. We had to first run to the municipal police to get a release and then contact the garage that was serving as an impound lot to recover our vehicle with of course an amount of €135 to pay for 1 hour and a half of parking. Not to mention the fine we will receive. It would have been so simple to put up your barriers to block the passage of cars rather than authorizing parking for the evening. Unfortunately, with this unforeseen event, I did not go to one of the restaurants in the port as planned. It seems to me that this is simply a scam!! Because of this bad memory, I will not return to this pretty town where places are extremely expensive!

Fresh food market
Halles de Sète is a vibrant and diverse market that offers an array of culinary delights. Visitors can explore a wide selection of fresh produce, including vegetables, oysters, wines, fish, meats, cheeses, and more. The market also features excellent dining options with restaurants serving Mediterranean cuisine with an Asian twist. It's recommended by locals and visitors alike as a must-visit destination in Sete. Whether you're looking for traditional food or seafood platters, this market has something for everyone.
Highlight of Sete, an absolute must do/see/experience. Opens early morning till early afternoon and there’s paid parking above. Fish selection is excellent and very fresh, and there are plenty of places to grab a meal too. Much seems closed Mondays…

An excellent market. A good variety of stalls. All of a good standard. A s expected there are a number of excellent seafood stalls. The stallholders all seem knowledgeable and friendly. A numbers of tables to eat your purchases should you wish. Clean free public toilets at the back of the market.
Craig T — Google review
As a foodie traveling to fulfill my bucket list items with regional specialty food everywhere I go, the Halles in Sete was especially rewarding! I mean, Wednesday morning market offered a half dozen Bouzique oysters and a glass of Picpoul by nine and a Tielle by ten, The Halle itself is loaded with food vendors of every type, many offering seating to enjoy their offerings, but outside the streets for blocks in every direction are similarly filled! The assortments of paella alone had me sad I couldn't eat more! Dare I say, Barcelona's Bocqueria didn't thrill me more, and it's always sets the bar for me!

Halles de Sete was one of the highlights of our recent visit to Sete. This fresh food market has everything you could want, gorgeous seafood, locally caught and available to purchase and eat right there, amazing cheeses and smallgoods, all locally made and lovingly offered to us to taste, along with crusty french bread and fresh vegetables and fruit. We spent a goof couple of hours here, enjoying local oysters with a cool dry white wine and then enjoyed octopus carpaccio and a fabulous country style terrine. there are plenty of tables and chairs to sit at either inside or out with roving waiters happy to bring you a choice of wine or spirits to enjoy, The coffee was also amazing as was the prepared food offer on the outer ring of the market. Sete itself is a lovely town and we were made to feel really welcome by the locals. We spent the afternoon shopping the small streets, before heading off. Definitely a place to visit again and stay a little longer so we can take full advantage of this fabulous market and seaside location.

This market is right in the center of Séte and for a food lover it is the heart of the city! Be sure to get there early for shopping as things close before 14:00. The oyster stand in the center offers 6 fresh oysters (any size) for 5€ and incredible oyster gratin. My favorite place in the city. Don’t miss the fried anchovies at the side resto stall either!
Kendra V — Google review
Grab some shucked oysters, a plate of charcuterie or a Setoise tielle (mussel pie), find a seat in the middle, order a glass of picpoul and you've got the perfect brunch. This place is the heart of Sete. It's real, not a tourist market, but everyone's welcome and you'll find some amazing seafood and fish (the star of the show; much of it hauled out of the sea by Sete's fishing fleet), fruit and veg and epicerie stalls.

Amazing farmer's market in Sete with lot's of fresh seafood, meats, cheeses and a great soap stand where I stock up on a wide variety of French olive oil soaps! This is also where the locals go to meet and have a reasonably priced fresh meal. Kirk Regalia Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida U.S.A.

Nestled in the heart of nature, the Forêt des Pierres Blanches is a stunning 27-hectare forest that beckons outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Just a short walk from Sete, this enchanting woodland offers numerous hiking trails that lead to breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and the picturesque Thau lagoon dotted with oyster parks.
A very nice place for a walk having an amazing view of the Mediterranean sea and the étang de Thau on the other side of the hill.

Extraordinary view over the whole city but very few things to do. We werent able to eat since one restaurant was closed already and the other one was already full at 7 pm. So for the view it's very impressive but apart form that you can't really do much. But it still makes up with a stunning view and a memorable picture.

No views worth mentioning - they're all blocked by trees. Otherwise, nothing much of interest and the little bar/restaurant on site called La Safari is an absolute disgrace (look it up for reviews). Go to the other side of the hill for spectacular views.

Sete Croisieres offers boat tours with commentary on the city's canals, showcasing the city center, Pointe Courte port, and Canal Royal. The boats are designed to navigate under low bridges and provide a unique experience with transparent panels in their hulls for viewing the sea bottom. While there is no shade or onboard amenities, it's a fun way to explore Sete's harbor. The live commentary is in French only, but it provides an informative insight into the area.
Great to be out on the Mediterranean. Nice big comfortable boat with plenty of choice of seats when we went ... probably less so in high season. Good guiding in French with a booklet in English to make it easy to follow. A surprise was the underwater view from a floor down in one of the pontoons.
Claes H — Google review
Booked online for the 1.5 hour cruise for 2pm on 20th Sept 2024. We didn't receive any email confirmation, only a receipt. Emailed the Company to advise them this and ask how do we get ticket confirmation the night before. No response from the Company. Arrived at the time we booked 2pm at the boat to be greeted by a rude captain who claimed he could speak no English, but to say to us, 'I'm not a bank'. Most unhelpful considering cruise was paid for in advance. Strangled more English came as the minutes passed and our frustration grew with him. We accept things can go wrong and when they do, most companies do their best to right the situation. This person was not interested in being helpful at all. Eventually a lady in the booth confirmed we had booked and paid and we were allowed on board. The experience left a bad taste considering 5 weeks in Europe in 9 countries and this was our first experience of poor service.
Roger C — Google review
It was a nice cruise, but we dis not see the oysters due to the weather (which was not so bad) and they should not sell a higher cost excursion on the windy days. You get less for your money.

Great way to get an overview of Setè, a small slice of the French Mediterranean. Please note the tour is only done in French, no translation except on laminated paper. We took the red circuit route, Aquarius.

Great trip through the canals of Sete and into the Etang de Tau. Very good guide and captain..a definite highlight on our weekend. Highly recommended. Great value also. Thank you.

A really fun way to visit the harbour of Sète. The boat has transparent panels in it's hull. So you can see the bottom of the sea when it is not too agitated (it becomes very milky when the waves are up). A must do to give your kids a good time. And even as an adult, I've done it at least three times and always found it enjoyable.
H R — Google review
You need to buy your ticket from the booth further up the road. Arrive early as the seats are first come, first served. If you sit at the front you will get wet from the spray as the boat goes back to the harbour quite fast after the tour has finished. There is no shade, toilet or drinks available on the boat. You get to go in the glass bottom once out at a mussel farm area. Commentary was live and in french only.

Worthy of your visit. A wonderful piece of traditional theater, with the gold and the red velvet to enhance beautiful paintings in what i would imagine Italian style. Not to be missed.
