Flea & Street Markets
Varadero Street Market, located along Avenida 1, is a popular spot for tourists looking to pick up unique souvenirs and gifts. The market offers a wide variety of items including handmade wooden gifts, Cuban artwork, clothing, jewelry made from coconut or coral, leather goods, and traditional food. Visitors can enjoy bartering with local vendors while browsing through the stalls filled with artisanal crafts such as wooden cigar boxes, straw bags, hats, and more.
Plenty of options to buy gifts and souvenirs for a good price, get them here before trying on the resort or airport. Airport is very expensive and the street market is very very fair. Nice market staff, friendly service. Bring peso!
Miree L — Google review
Plenty of souvenirs, nice people.
Edy E — Google review
A nice little arts and crafts market and the place to go for souvenir shopping. Many interesting items and maybe some handmade by local artisans. Vendors are friendly and prices are reasonable. The same souvenirs are offered at several stands throughout the town.
Lorna T — Google review
Almost all the stores have the same type of stuff. Better to take the US dollar to get some value for money. Everything is inflated in Canadian or Cuban pesos.
Aravinth R — Google review
A good place to buy handicrafts and souvenirs, but if you do not speak Spanish, they offer higher prices so you should bargain 😉
Sepideh K — Google review
Arts and crafts market. It was a 20 minute walk from our hotel, Club Kawana. Good place to buy locally made souvenirs and support local artists.

La Casa del Ron, also known as the 'House of Rum,' is a must-visit destination in Varadero for rum enthusiasts. This charming establishment offers an immersive experience in Cuban rum culture, featuring a vast selection of authentic rums, including aged classics and innovative blends. Visitors can embark on a tour to learn about the rum-making process and enjoy expert guidance from knowledgeable staff. Additionally, La Casa del Ron serves as a prime location to purchase various Cuban rums, including flavored varieties.
Great place to test and purchase rums. The staff were kind and the place looks pretty cool.
Yvonne — Google review
It's good place to get cigar and rum but they have only one thing, if you speak Spanish you will get different price
Darko T — Google review
Not so much to choose. Everyone will send you here to buy some local rum, but unfortunately there isn't much to choose from, just lots of bottles of the same brand. This place is nice, staff is friendly, they offer you rum tasting and you find cigars here as well. But that’s it, same bottles you can find in any hotel or at the airport with the same price.
Cirrus S — Google review
La Casa del Ron is a gem in Varadero that rum enthusiasts and casual visitors alike shouldn't miss. As a returning customer, I can confidently say this place maintains its charm and quality. The highlight is undoubtedly their free rum tasting, which offers an excellent opportunity to sample some of Cuba's finest rums. Their rum selection is impressive - arguably the best you'll find in the area. What's more, the prices are quite competitive, especially when compared to what you'd find at the airport or in downtown Varadero Mall. The atmosphere is another big plus. It's a well-maintained, air-conditioned space that provides a welcome respite from the Cuban heat. It's the perfect spot to take a break and relax during your walk through Varadero. For cigar aficionados, La Casa del Ron also offers a great selection, making it a one-stop-shop for two of Cuba's most famous exports. Whether you're looking to taste, relax, or purchase some rum to take home, La Casa del Ron delivers on all fronts. The combination of quality products, reasonable prices, and a pleasant atmosphere makes this a must-visit destination in Varadero. It's an excellent way to experience a bit of Cuban culture and take home some high-quality souvenirs. In summary, if you're in Varadero, make sure to set aside some time for La Casa del Ron. It's more than just a shop - it's an experience that encapsulates the spirit of Cuba in a bottle (or several). :)
Ivan — Google review
Nice spot to visit in Varadero during the day, good selection of local rums with a history lesson on the side
Jay S — Google review
Very nice place with friendly staff and a wide selection of rum and a smaller selection of cigars. There's a tasting area, I would be sure to take your time there. They accept CUC and credit cards, with a 3% fee, which is handy if you end up buying more than you planned - which you might after trying some samples. Prices for rum are quite a bit cheaper than in Canada.
Jason M — Google review
I came in with a tour and we did a rum and liqor taste test. Seriously, get the dark legendario, so delicious! This is a great place to buy the bottles of liquor you want to take home. The prices are some of the best I've seen. Great selection!
Melissa J — Google review
I visited this place through TUI, we tasted 11 different kinds of rum and liquors , it was a great experience. You can buy all kinds of them for reasonable price except Santiago de Cuba-in airport is around £13

Shopping mall
Conference & Convention Centers
Plaza América is Varadero's first proper shopping mall, offering a range of shops and useful tourist locales such as a bank, pharmacy, souvenir shops, and stores catering to travelers' needs. It is conveniently located within walking distance of an Adults Only 5-star resort. The mall boasts modern upscale facilities with beautiful ocean views and easy access by bus or taxi. Visitors can enjoy spacious and clean surroundings with Covid safety protocols in place, including hand sanitizers throughout the area.
Very fancy and great architecture shopping mall with fancy brands like Puma and Benetton. All prices are in US dollars, it has a big supermarket which has almost everything, although meat was lacking. Overall you get a lot of fancy and expensive Western products to buy at this place.
Human K — Google review
The place was neat, you can access the toilets without giving any tip to anyone. We entered the store and they have limited displays and are priced in American dollars. We were there on a Saturday and hardly no people around. Mostly tourists are seen once in a while. You can access the beach from here.
Mary L — Google review
It's nice and refreshing to see a modern upscale shopping mall in Cuba! It's located by the ocean with beautiful views and very easy access by bus or taxi. The mall is beautiful! It's very spacious, clean and great Covid safety protocols - hand sanitizers in every corner! Lots of outdoor sitting /resting area. There are a few souvenir shops, nice quality and tasteful clothing stores, cigar and rum shops. The prices are higher for quality items, but very unique and worthy. There is a supermarket downstairs with good selections of liquor and beers, but limited selections on other items because of the pandemic. Nicely decorated restaurants and bars, but few of them were open. The price of the items in some shops seems to be in Euro. Most shops accept foreign cash and credit cards. The customer service in shops and supermarket are very friendly, polite and helpful. Overall it was a very present shopping and sightseeing experience away from the hotel. Would definitely recommend if you want to see the modern side of Cuba!
S C — Google review
Pricey items, that are outdated. I used to love Colors of Benetton when I went to Europe 20 years ago. They have a store at the Plaza. The Plaza is like shopping at Winner's here in Canada, various items, overpriced, outdated and out of style. All shops have extremely high prices, and I am sure that the shops know this, but they should really decrease the items by about 90% of what they are asking for. This is by no means a comparable place to Rodeo drive in Hollywood CA, but prices are comparable to that. Beautiful spot, Ocean view is spectacular, and great for photos. Restaurant food is about @200 USD each, unreal. They have a little gift shop/vendor area outside the back of the Plaza, we bought souvenirs there. We only visited the Plaza for Cigars, and did not buy anything else. Save your money folks!
Melissa W — Google review
The shops were fine, it was really just a grocery store (with no energy drinks, despite the redbull signs). The bathrooms feature a man standing outside charging you to go in, but my washroom didn't have soap in it. Another patron confronted him on the matter saying it was "not fair-o" to charge a fee to pee, given the lack of hygienic standards being met. The purse my girlfriend got was nice, the product offered is as promised, however the dingey environment, and weirdo standing outside the bathroom make for a less than perfect shopping experience.
Christopher P — Google review
Other reviewers were right about the market. Avoid this place. They are dishonest. Notice the price tags have no currency on them. So when you get to pay and notice a price difference, they say the price is in EURO but you pay by credit card at the cashier in USD! This is totally messed up. So no matter what currency is your credit card, you will pay an unknown "commission" depending on "products you buy". So they say. How shady is that? And by what other reviewers are saying, the commission is substantial. Like 30 CAD! Just avoid it.
Kam A — Google review
At this mall you can find some stores like: clothing, pharmacy, souvenirs, baby products, coffee and restaurants. All the prices are in USD and they accept credit cards.
V P — Google review
It was never open , when we came they always said it’s closed and it will be open tomorrow. So we came the next day and it was open . This happened 2 times . Shops in the mall - space used for the shops 40% , opened shops 25%. Italian restaurant , cocktail bar, pharmacy with very few things, some gift shops , one grocery store , bank. Cash machines not working. They give you only pesos in the bank so take dollars or euro with you to Cuba . I recommend to buy all souvenirs or small gifts in airport ( it’s much cheaper and a lot to choose from ) . Rum or cigars - I recommend to buy in the mall or somewhere in the city. So this place has a lot of potential but… I know now is not very good time for Cuba. The mall it’s in beautiful location , by the beach . So close and the beach it’s just breathtaking. I hope they will do some terraced restaurants or bars from that side of the mall.

Centro Comercial Hicacos is a unique commercial center located in downtown Varadero. Unlike typical tourist markets, this center features stores catering to the local community, including a grocery store and a pharmacy. Situated partially underground, it offers a modest yet comprehensive selection of shops that can meet various traveler needs. Its central location at Parque de las 8000 Taquillas makes it convenient for visitors to access essentials such as clothing and authentic Cuban rum.
Cute and quaintLittle place to drop in and do some shopping for souvenirs, trinkets and stuff to bring back to canada
PERO S — Google review
Not the typical version of what the rest of the world knows as a mall, remember this is Cuba. It has some basic stores mainly for tourists. There's a cafeteria, again with basic things, coffee and sandwiches and some soft drinks. A very basic mall if you can call it like that.
JULIO C — Google review
AVOID tienda mercado!!! Unless you want to be cheated!! Not even deserve one star!! The staff attempted to remove the price tag when there’s tourist come. And told you the DOUBLE PRICE!! I came twice and all the staff do the same thing! The price tag was only in US dollars.
Chloe C — Google review
With continued shortages there are less goods available. Find out about prices before you purchase. I was told the shoes I wanted were 21 Canadian but was charged in USD.
Paulette M — Google review
Very busy and noisy commercial centre. There's an ATM and a supermarket. Not a lot of variety on the stores, but if you need Rum, Cristal beer, sandals and a few trinkets - that'a your place to go.
Doug A — Google review
Watch out for the lady in the chocolate store, she ripped off my friend. Which is a shame cause most Cubans are friendly and nice, then you get ones like her that scam tourists. She double charged her on one item, which was only an extra 7 CUCs. Then since we barely speaking any spanish when I went in to say something she played dumb and wouldnt refund her.
Jason N — Google review
Local wifi hotspot, and a etecsa office where you buy access card, plenty of small shops, with the same stuff as elsewhere in the town. Good thing is that there is a supermarket there, where you can buy soft drinks, some Bucanero, rum and wine at official prices (cheap). The only thing is that you should closely watch how they calculate at cash register. 4 out of 4 visits we had to challenge bill. After polite ‚I am sorry’ the bill was reduced by 1 to 3 CUCs.
Dariusz J — Google review
This mall doesn’t have much to see. Wouldn’t waste my time walking it again as there is better things to see in the area.

Cigar shop
La Casa del Habano is renowned as one of the top cigar stores globally, offering a luxurious experience for aficionados. It features an extensive selection of renowned brands such as Partagas, Hoyo de Monterrey, Ramon Allones, Bolivar, and the complete range of Cohibas. In Cuba, prices are standardized across all stores for cigars and rum. The store also accommodates both individual purchases and larger orders.
I really love this place, I really like all the people who are working there. The bartender at the cigar lounge It's amazing. I'm always happy to go there and do my shopping.
Zee M — Google review
Get your Credit Cards out! So, my brother is a Cigar Expert, and has his own Cigar Lounge in Canada. My mom and I went down with a list of what he wanted, and the "price" of which they "should be" on hand. If you are just buying one or two cigars, then the store has that option. But we needed a 1000 dollars worth of cigars, our MAX suitcase limit, to bring home back to Canada. The "Main" store, which will look beautiful (Eventually) is being renovated. So we had to go to the "temporary" one, which has way less selection. The ladies were very leery to help us until they saw that we were serious, and had the money. But we knew what the Cigar Values were, so they had no opportunity to overcharge us. Nothing is labelled "price" wise. We had to settle for different Cigar #'s which was fine, however, we were looking for the light ones. If you know your cigars, then you know what I mean. Also, looking at the serial numbers and that the boxes were not opened or damaged. You pay via VISA, in USD. They took "some" Canadian cash, but not much. This is a very pristine store, and quality is what they are known for. Locals can mimic the Cigar and sell you one on the beach and you would never know the difference....But our family does. So if you are in Varadero, and you are at the Plaza America, and you need quality, they offer that. Again, not much selection due to space, so have options, and/or your cigar expert on the phone to negotiate!
Melissa W — Google review
A trustworthy government-run specialty cigar (and coffee and rum) Boutique shop located in the heart of the Varadero resort strip. They offer a great selection of authentic Habanos cigars which are sold at the government listed prices. The professional staff are knowledgable and can certainly help you find the perfect cigars. Helpful tip, do some research on Habanos cigars before you visit to make the interaction with the staff that much more efficient for all as they often have many customers at once so the more you know the easier it is for everyone to get what you want quickly with no fuss. I’d suggest having a few different cigar brands and sizes (such as the very popular Montecristo No.4, Partagas Serie D No.4, Hoyo Epicure No.2, etc), and knowing their prices (most non Cohiba cigars are ~$5-$13 CUC, $7-$16 CDN, $6-$14 USD each cigar, so knowing how much you want to spend is helpful in advance as many cigars come in full 25 boxes but some can be found in 3 or 5 packs and the per cigar price is the same regardless of how many you buy...I.e. no discount for buying more). The ladies at the shop are great and will be sure to help you get the right cigars for whatever occasion and budget you’re working with. Enjoy!
Matt S — Google review
Those who give positive comments, are you crazy or maybe you work for this shop? On the box of Cohiba Siglo I it was written 140 USD, but the seller insisted that it was for one piece, and asked 700 USD for 5 cigars. Unseen scammers!!!
Branko G — Google review
Similar to every other cigar shop in Cuba. The staff were friendly and the selection was decent. They were out of Siglo VI, which was disappointing.
C ( — Google review
Buying cigars at this la casa del habano was like pulling teeth. It took three transactions to purchase the cigars I came in looking for because the staff member could not be bothered to do her job... sell cigars! On a positive note… The prices and selection--although still very limited--were much better than at the hotel
Joe C — Google review
The preferred LCDH in the Varadero region and the prices are spot on as per pricing lists available. If you are nice enough and know your stuff, you will even be allowed into the walk in humidor. I had a great experience here and was able to find some nice finds.
Danh N — Google review
Very rude and arrogant personel, ridiculous prices and stock in poor condition (dried out cigars) - but hey, you're just a tourist who can be ripped off since there's no other shop around. Can buy the same cigars cheaper in Europe and in better condition.

The marina also serves as a departure point for catamaran trips to Cayo Blanco, where guests can enjoy snorkeling, lobster lunch, and unlimited drinks. Additionally, Marina Varadero features trendy stores with international fashion brands housed in vibrant Caribbean-style buildings and hosts a small street market.
Marina Varadero is a beautiful place to visit, have a drink and food and a walk around the harbour. You can even choose your own Lobster from the harbour restaurant. If you drive further up there is another restaurant but you need to get the some stairs to the seating area. Lovely few, lovely food and friendly staff.

Avoid this place, I got scammer and over charged for grocery's. The cashiers have the ability to ring up any price and overcharge, then pocket the money, when confronted afterwards, they appears like nothing has happened and treat you badly. Avoid this place at all costs.

The merchants are friendly and not pushy, allowing visitors to browse without feeling pressured to make a purchase. Many of the vendors are genuinely nice people who enjoy engaging in interesting conversations with visitors, even if they don't intend to buy anything.
Nice and colorful place. It's super touristic but still offering a bit of charm and warmth. Many of the merchants are simple and genuinely nice people. Had conversations with some merchants that were very interesting even when they knew i am noy buying anything. They just enjoy a chat. Got some souvenirs for friends and family and it was a bit cheaper than other shops or the Duty free.

A good place to buy your souvenirs to gift people at home. Not a lot of variety, merchandise and prices are pretty much the same in every booth. It is worth to haggle and try to get a better deal. You may find a few unique items that are worth considering.

DO NOT STAY HERE. Arrived 1130 not able to check until 4 pm this was not communicated prior to us leaving or on the way to the hotel No eggs for most of the days No milk for most of the days No cream for the entire stay No tea for most of the days No Splenda or sweetener They kept serving the same food everyday whatever was leftover from the day before was served again and again and again No jam for most of the stay No butter for 4 days No hot water for 2 days in our room. We didn't shower No remote for tv. Never got one. The phone in the room didn't work and started working the day we checked out Remote for the air conditioning unit needed batteries so I could not adjust the temperature. On day 3 we got battery Bathroom showerhead leaked No face cloths were provided The Internet was very patchy and didn't work all the time No toilet seat in main men's bathroom off lobby Toilet in women's bathroom was plugged with poop on 1 day. No toilet paper in ladies bathroom The elevator broke for 3 days. Because our flight was delayed 3 days we had to carry our luggage up and down 3 flights of stairs for these 3 days. My husband had both his knees replaced and struggled with this. The bathroom in our room was flooded for 2 days we had water leaking from the upstairs bathroom so we were unable to brush our teeth. And were nervous about using anything electrical in or near the bathroom. On the day of check out our bus was supposed to show up at 7:30 pm we got picked up after 10:45 pm and we did not get to the airport until 11:45 pm. The plane waited for us. The bus ride from our hotel was slow and we stopped and waited at different hotels along the way. The staff on the bus and everywhere asked for tips and confirmed they were happy to accept American money. Even though we were Canadian. The best part of this is, I communicated to Sunwing about this, and the hotel is denying it all. I also spoke to the Sunwing rep at the hotel. This was my 4th visit to this hotel. Really gone downhill. We may go back to Cuba but we will never stay at this hotel again. I waited to post this review but since the hotel is denying that any of this happened I need to warn other travelers. This happened in February and Sunwing has not resolved this.

(Translated by Google) The time I had with my family was super bad for a 4-star hotel, the food was scarce, there was no variety and what there was was restricted, especially in the dining room the workers hide to avoid serving, it should be a 2-star hotel, I do not recommend it at all, I will never come back here again.

(Translated by Google) The place is very nice and the rooms are clean and comfortable, but the buffet is terrible. The food is awful. For the number of stars the hotel has, it should be 1 star because the variety is scarce, I would say awful. (Original) Muy bonito el lugar y las habitaciones limpias y cómodas pero el buffet pésimo ,la comida malísima para las estrellas que tiene el hotel debería de ser 1 estrella xq la variedad es escasa yo diría malísima

Souvenir store
Libreria Hanoi, located in central Varadero, is a quaint store offering a variety of English-language literature alongside ideologically-approved editions in Spanish. Despite its name, it's not a library but rather a shop selling souvenirs, stationery, and clothing like beach dresses and traditional Che Guevara T-shirts at standard prices. The staff is known for being extremely friendly and honest about pricing, accepting cash payments in CUP.
Extremely friendly staff. Unlike many other places, they don't try to rip you off. Payable in CUP for cash. Each product has a price written on it (in other places where the price is written, they try to charge you more and tell you that the price is actually tax, and the real price is what they tell you).

(Translated by Google) Be careful. In this place, toward the middle of the street, they scam tourists. They switch bills. They take your original bill and give you a fake one. They should be ashamed, because they damage the image of their country. (Original) Tengan cuidado. En este lugar, al fondo hacia el medio, estafan a los turistas. Hacen cambiazo con los billetes. Toman tu billete original y te dan uno falso. Vergüenza debería darles, pues dañan la imagen de su país.

Very nice at night. Love the good music.

Local meeting place, drinks music streetwise but like everywhere here beware of getting ripped. Tourists pay 10 times what the locals do!

Unreal artificial area designed on a drawing board with several more or less reasonable shops especially to milk the tourists

Amazing place and the people are super friendly

Lovely wee place, although not all that friendly, though. Some staff seemed quite miserable (understandable). Hint* Take a lot of cuban pesos for tipping 👌 Ps Take toilet roll also

Price gouging in full form. I can buy the same bottle of Havana Club Rum here in Canada for less. 1st world prices in 3rd world conditions.
