Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Zoológico de Barranquilla is a captivating zoo with a park-like ambiance and naturalistic habitats that house a diverse array of animals. Visitors can observe over 500 animals representing more than 140 species, including lions, elephants, flamingos, and many others. The zoo offers educational experiences about the origins of the animals and hosts regular events for added enjoyment. While it may be small in size, it provides an intimate setting to connect with the wildlife.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Barranquilla Zoo, and I must say, it was a delightful experience! While it may be a smaller zoo compared to some larger establishments, the level of care and dedication that the staff provides to the animals is truly commendable. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that the well-being of the animals is the top priority here. The enclosures are clean, well-maintained, and designed to mimic the animals’ natural habitats as closely as possible. A special shoutout to Christian O, who went above and beyond to share information about the hard work that the Zoo BAQ Foundation does for the welfare of the animals and birds at the zoo, as well as for conservation efforts throughout Colombia. His passion and enthusiasm are infectious, making the experience even more enriching. I encourage everyone to visit the Barranquilla Zoo. Not only will you get to see some incredible animals, but you’ll also support a team that genuinely cares about their well-being and is dedicated to educating the public about wildlife conservation. Your visit will make a difference!

This is actually a real good cute little zoo lots of shade lots of different animals to see and plenty of parrots some talk English and Spanish there's ice cream and food and drinks to purchase I stayed 2 hours it's very peaceful lots of different types of monkeys it's worth visiting I'm glad I went, you can also buy tickets there it's around $6 usd
Alexander N — Google review
This is a fun zoo. Many exotic animals are available to see. There is a food court and snack stands throughout. You can feed some animals and catch shows on schedule. Peacocks and Iguanas are seen on the pedestrian path. Water is cheaper if you buy outside and bring it in. I had a good time.
M A — Google review
The zoo is pretty small, but they have a good selection of unique animals. They have capybara, lions, a tiger, an elephant and a large selection of birds and snakes. Some of the cages seem too small for the animals and the elephant looks sad.
Zackary B — Google review
Great Time at Barranquilla ZOO . Small and cozy ; beautiful surroundings of nature. Animals well fed.
Jess M — Google review
This is a good one! Great place to spend the day. Fair amount of animals, clean, good ice cream shop! Overall good for kids or just a fun romantic day!
10tro M — Google review
Small zoo, needs more funding unfortunately. Still it's an okay zoo for a couple hours if the heat and humiditydoesn't get you first. Some enclosures like the lions and elephant are a bit small to be honest. Although they all look well fed
Diego R — Google review
I attended the zoo today and it was a an informative experience and saw animals that I never even heard of however I understand this is a nonprofit but the conditions are not well for small or big animals for example the African elephant, the tiger, alligator enclosure and many others. Even if it is a nonprofit, It shouldn’t mean that the animals should not have their Water bowl empty and food bowl empty at 10 AM when they open at 8 AM… A few of the enclosures for the animals are very small and you can see the small and big animals pacing in distress. A few of the animals for example the ostriches are under veterinarian care however although the sign says they are on medication, these ostriches should be kept apart, under shade, and perhaps bandages to prevent the ostriches from picking at their wounds. You can even see groups of mosquitoes picking at the animals..Although i enjoyed seeing animals I never thought I would see, I in general do not like zoos and this definitely emphasized that I will never visit a zoo again. I will forever keep these animals in my thoughts and hope as terrible as it sounds that they pass away soon and peacefully because no animal should live like this. I think the people who work here do care about the animals and like I said I understand it is a nonprofit but there Has to be assistance out there and the enclosures should be kept in better conditions.

The beginning of one of the city's most popular places. The square is open, and a huge number of shopping arcades open to the east. The corporate office Palcos carnaval de Barranquilla, located on track 40, offers a tranquil and enjoyable experience during the "Battle of flowers" parade. Monumento Ventana al Mundo, also known as Window to the World, is a striking testament to Barranquilla's dedication to arts and culture. This public open-air monument stands at an impressive 47 meters tall, making it the tallest monument in Colombia. Donated by the Barranquilla-based company Tecnoglass, this colorful structure is made of laminated safety glass and represents creativity, talent, and culture.
This monument “Monumento Ventana al Mundo” = “Window to the World” is a must see attraction in Barranquilla. I even suggest to come at different times of the day to get different photos based on the direction of the sun. It takes 15 minutes to reach this monument as it is away from city … near an industrial area. I also suggest taking photos while laying on the ground … Enjoy!
Bashar D — Google review
Ventanas al Mundo is such a colorful and beautiful place to visit! The artwork and design make it perfect for taking amazing photos. The lady there will take really cool pictures of your group for just a small tip, and she’s super friendly and creative with the shots. Definitely worth stopping by — it’s a fun and memorable experience!
Suleika A — Google review
🎑 7.5/10: It is a great place for cool pictures! Personally I feel like this is not a tourist attraction but more just like a landmark in Barranquilla. The colors are really vibrant at night and many people took cool pictures with fun poses! I just wish you can go up to the top so you can see the whole city view! 📍8/10: Located at a round about and it was quite easy to find street parkings! It is a big place so there is many angles to look at the colorful windows, I really enjoyed looking at how the colors changed from different angles!
Kevin N — Google review
In town with few options for tourists, Ventana al mundo is well worth the cheap cab fare to capture a few nice pictures. And if you happen to encounter a young guy selling cheap souvenirs see if he’ll snap a few pictures for you because the guy we asked took these shots and we had lots of fun being silly.
S G — Google review
The experience of seeing it was good, but as an English tourist I didn't understand anything that was written on the windows. They should improve that for all tourists, and I didn't even find a guide.

Parque Sagrado Corazón is a serene and lush green park in Barranquilla that offers various amenities for its visitors to enjoy. It is also a popular spot for jogging and picnics, providing ample opportunities to connect with nature.
Nice n safe lil park. We were there till 8pm. My kids playing on the playground
Tugi T — Google review
Parque Sagrado Corazón in Barranquilla is a vibrant hub of culture and celebration, especially during the city’s famous Carnaval. My visit during this festive season was nothing short of magical. The park, with its lush greenery and serene atmosphere, transforms into a lively stage for live folk bands, showcasing the rich musical heritage of Colombia’s Caribbean coast. The energy was electric as traditional cumbia, vallenato, and porro rhythms filled the air, drawing locals and tourists alike into spontaneous dances and joyful sing-alongs. What made the experience unforgettable was the authenticity of the performances. The bands played from the traditional repertory, their music echoing the soul of Barranquilla’s Carnaval. The vibrant costumes, the rhythmic clapping, and the infectious smiles of the performers created an atmosphere of pure joy. I found myself swept up in the celebration, dancing alongside strangers who quickly felt like friends. The park’s setting added to the charm, with its shaded areas providing a respite from the tropical heat while still allowing full immersion in the festivities. Parque Sagrado Corazón during Carnaval is a must-visit for anyone seeking to experience the heart and soul of Barranquilla’s culture. It was a day of music, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Only gets a 4 stars due to the fact the municipality installed a few exercise equipment ignoring the number of people visiting the park on a daily basis(morning time) some individuals think they literally "own" the equipment and will not let you use it while they are resting and will frown upon you if show intentions to use it As far as maintenance goes the former mayor's office put their 5 cents in it plants get watered daily garbage picked up walking path are well lid for the early and late jogger/ walker Right on Barranquilla!!!! It's a nice enough park.. Really just a boulevard with a pathway on either side, flanked by busy streets. You're not going to have a picnic here.. There are no open green areas. Gran Malecón is a recent addition to Barranquilla's attractions, offering picturesque views and a fresh perspective of the city. It has quickly become a favorite spot for both exercise and relaxation. The riverside promenade is still under development but already features several restaurants and bars with excellent river views. While it lacks coffee options at the moment, it promises to offer more dining, bar, and coffee choices once fully developed.
This is one of my favorite things to do in #Barranquilla in the late afternoon and early evening … it is very hot to explore this place in the morning. It is a Linear park located alongside the Magdalena river with breathtaking sceneries of one of Colombia's biggest natural park (Via Parque Isla Salamanca). It’s perfect for every family that wants to enjoy an outdoor experience in direct contact with the river and its natural environment. Includes playground, restaurants and cultural activities. A notable monument is the Shakira Statue … many bus tours stop by this statue.

Lively Spot for a Sunset Stroll The Santa Marta Malecón is a pleasant, walkable boardwalk that offers a lively slice of local life. It’s often bustling with people, especially around the smaller beaches at the end, and you'll find plenty of street vendors selling snacks, souvenirs, and local goods along the way. Lining both sides are charming little bars and restaurants — great for grabbing a drink or quick bite with a view. On the east end, don’t miss the iconic “Santa Marta” letters — a nice photo opportunity, especially around sunset. While it can get crowded, the atmosphere is energetic and fun, making it a great place to take in the local culture and enjoy a beautiful coastal sunset.

Came here at morning, it was a stop for my cycling route, it was peaceful, the sun was burning for real, but there's a lot of trees so you can manage to find out where to rest below our beloved trees. Got energy recharged, rested, and hydrated and also enjoyed the view and the wind. It's good to see the Magdalena River, it's such an historical river, it just goes along half of the country and witness a lot of culture and places, you just gotta appreciate that river because it's someway the biggest in Colombia and at the Malecon you can view it while you do other things.

The development of the zone is still a work in progress. The place has a lot of restaurants and a few bars with an excellent view to the river. The place is very good to spend the evening with amazing river views. The restaurants are good however the place lacks options for coffee. I hope that the zone when it is fully developed, offers a lot more options on food, bars and coffee. The maintanence is good and the place is clean compared to the rest of the parks in Barranquilla. The statues of the caimen are a fun to watch.
Vivek J — Google review
Very nice place to spend the afternoon. Great views of the Magdalena River and many snacks and typical treats to eat. It is under development and hopefully soon will be an even better experience.
Bryan O — Google review
A good place to rest. You can find restaurants, toilets and cafes. Also there are places for children. In weekends there can be parking lot problem but in weekdays, no problem. It was a suprise that there was an Arabic restaurant it's called to be Turko.

Malecón del Río, also known as La Via al Mar, is a popular attraction in Barranquilla, Colombia. It runs along the Magdalena River for approximately 2.5 kilometers and offers a picturesque and culturally rich experience. It's recommended to visit early in the morning or in the evening due to the hot weather during the day. The promenade features various dining options and stunning views, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls with friends and family.
Absolutely love this place in Barranquilla and it is a must. The area continues to develop as evidenced by the Shakira monument and ongoing expansion of the pier. Great place to hang out with anyone; just keep in mind that during the day it is unbearably hot! Lots of restaurants, bars, small parks including a dog park, and jogging trails. Food is hit or miss: I’ve tried different places and have different responses.
Mikicin S — Google review
Very nice place great for outdoor activities like walk, ride a bicycle or just watch the nature; its a big place with a food court with a great variety of restaurants.
Alvaro A — Google review
This malecón is a nice, long, and well maintained strip on which to walk or run by the water. There are parts that have play areas for kids, small food courts with plenty of variety of options, and the famed Shakira statue toward the end. It was overcast when I visited, but I’m sure the views are beautiful on a sunny day. There were some lovely birds when I came.

Is good to go early at morning or at evening when the sun is down. The rest of the day is really hot. But is worth to walk over there I really enjoy it.

The initial stages in establishing an ecologically friendly area within a metropolitan city. The general locality lacks liveliness with enclosed commercial establishments and inadequately planned thoroughfares. The new development offers nothing unique, resulting in a disheartening and unsustainable environment. However, the park itself presents an excellent venue for physical activities. Individuals appear pleasant and are accommodating towards pets. It is also an ideal spot for picnics.
Nice place to exercise. People look nice and are pet friendly. You could have a picnic here
