Torre Apponale, a 13th-century clock tower in the heart of Riva del Garda, offers visitors a chance to climb its 165 wooden stairs for panoramic views of the city and Lake Garda. The tower's recent renovation has given it a distinctive appearance with a straight roof instead of the traditional Germanic dome. For just 2 euros, visitors can enjoy one of the best views in Riva del Garda from this medieval watchtower.
A really wonderful tower! Views from the top are extraordinary! The tower was constructed in the 13th century, and offers some of the best views of Lake Garda. I visited twice (once in June and subsequent in December) and I wasn’t disappointed!

This is a nice spot for a short visit. You can climb the tower—about 100 steps—to enjoy a lovely view from the top. Entrance is free with a Trentino Card.
Hila — Google review
Went here for a last minute thing on the last day of the holiday. Was no wait to get in, narrow stair case so you might need to wait to allow people to get passed each way. I was a little nervous at the top, not for the height, but the height with knowing how old the structure is. However it appears to be quite solid and has literally stood the test of time.
Random U — Google review
Beautiful views from the top. Free entrance using Trento guest card. Riva Del Gara is really a lovely small Italian town. Wish I could have a chance to stay a few days here.

2 euros each, 165 steps, wide wooden staircase, quite easy climb. Nice view of old town and lake. 2 clock faces on the tower, which are still in working condition.

Perched on a hill in Riva del Garda, Italy, Bastione is a historic fortified tower built by the Venetians in the 16th century. Although it was destroyed by French troops in 1703, its grey stone ruins still dominate the town and offer stunning panoramic views of Lake Garda and the surrounding mountains.
Bastione Lounge and Restaurant is the perfect spot to enjoy an afternoon coffee with an unforgettable view of Lake Garda. Perched on a hill overlooking the lake, it offers panoramic views that are stunningly beautiful. Adding to the charm, the restaurant is located right next to the historic Bastione castle, making it a unique place to relax and take in the area’s history. To reach the restaurant, there’s a convenient funicular that takes you up the hill. It’s a short, scenic ride that makes the experience even more enjoyable. Tickets for the funicular are around 5 euros for a round trip, and it’s well worth it for the ease and the views along the way. Once at the top, you’ll find the outdoor seating area provides an unobstructed view of Lake Garda, creating a serene atmosphere that’s perfect for unwinding. Whether you’re here for the views, the coffee, or the historic charm, Bastione Lounge and Restaurant is a must-visit when in Riva del Garda. The combination of nature, history, and relaxation makes it an unforgettable experience.

Amazing views as definitely best views of the lake...l recommend walking back down as its not as bad with paved walkways. The cafe makes a good stop over if thinking of trekking up towards the chapel. Views are very panoramic offering a birds eye view of Riva

Well worth a visit, OAP's go free too!. Great views of Riva and surrounding area. The castle ( Bastione) is small but historical. The food at the eatery looked very nice though I never tried.

Beautiful spot with stunning views — worth the €9 entry per person. Great place to enjoy the scenery, though the drinks were just okay and the snacks (chips and basic olives) could be improved. Still, a lovely experience overall!
Diljá H — Google review
A little touristy spot to enjoy the views, drink a capuccino or beer. Prices reasonable for this kind of place. Can be reached either by cable car of on foot (entry about 100 meter up the road). Access to the little castle is free. There is a trail up to the chapel, but it seem to be a bit on the harder side.
Galeno R — Google review
The kitchen is closed for the season but they serve sandwiches. Do NOT order a sandwich. It was wilted old lettuce, 2 thin slices of no flavor tomato and a thin slice of cheese on plain white bread. The tiramisu was good and fresh squeezed lemonade was good. Service was really bad. We had to wave someone down and they just put our food on the table and quickly walked away. Of course the view is amazing and the lemonade and tiramisu were great.

Chapel Santa Barbara is a historic church near Riva Del Garda, with a rich history dating back to the time of miners working on a new power plant. The road leading to the chapel offers stunning views of the lake and is steep and rugged, making it suitable for those seeking an adventurous hike. Visitors are advised to arrive early due to limited parking spaces available at the church and in small lots below it.
A fantastic hike to the little chapel in the mountains! My experienced rock climber partner (57M) and I (50F, BMI 20) a seasoned mountaineer, found the climb relatively easy and rewarding. We finished in 1 hour and 10 minutes, wearing hiking sandals (although I wouldn't recommend these to everyone unless you're extremely confident). The views along the trail and from the summit are absolutely breathtaking. If you're looking for a stunning hike with a rewarding payoff, this is a must-do! Remember, this is a mountain trail, so always be prepared. According to the chapel caretaker, there are frequent rescues of unprepared and inexperienced hikers, especially during the summer. Stay humble. Humility is essential for all mountain hikes, no matter the difficulty level. Always respect the power of nature and be mindful of your own limitations.
Mamien — Google review
I recently tackled the trail up to the little chapel on Monte Rocchetta at Riva del Garda, and it’s absolutely worth it. Here’s what to know: • Gear up properly – Wear shoes with excellent grip and bring hiking poles. I underestimated the descent and wished I had better traction. • Watch the weather – Avoid rainy days. The wet rocks and roots get slippery fast, increasing the chance of a fall. • Timing – The uphill takes about 1 hour 40 minutes at a moderate pace, but plan extra time for the descent if your footwear isn’t ideal. • A touch of magic – You might find butterflies gently landing on you as you climb. They’re harmless—consider it a good-luck charm! • Rewarding summit – Once you reach the top, the panoramic views are breathtaking. Don’t forget to sign the guestbook inside the tiny chapel 😉. Don't forget that you hiking path starts behind the bastion after taking the cable car. There are no spots to fill up your water bottles, so bring them. Enjoy!
Antonio M — Google review
Worth the climb, trail is fun and has high steps and some sketchy parts but is totally doable if you're generally fit or hike from time to time. The way down is BORING and feels like an eternity
Marie — Google review
Great hike up for a fab view over Riva. Path is rocky after the first section on a track so will need good shoes with traction and water. Uphill all the way about 1.15 hours each way so will need general level of fitness and balance walking on uneven ground. No water at the chapel so take plenty.
Andrew B — Google review
Great hike with amazing views. Footing can be difficult as most of the path is boulders and rocks.
Chris G — Google review
Awesome hike. Not too arduous. Beautiful vistas. Water essential. Trail shoes sufficient. Cooler late afternoon. Lovely chapel.

If you enjoy a fairly stiff walk uphill on decent paths this is for you. It is a fairly tough haul up from The Bastione but well worth it. I went up in decent training shoes early morning before it got too hot. The views are spectacular and the size of the Capanna Santa Barbara is apprieciated once viewed up close. Much bigger than it looks from Riva

Beautiful church, both inside and out. Well worth a visit, only a few minuets walk from the waterfront. There could be a lot more done, to promote this beautiful church. I understand why it isn't used. However there is a lot of history written down in various languages, in the pamphlets provided, free of charge.

Riva del Garda continues to shine as a cultural hub, with recent highlights like the exhibition *“Garda Movie: il lago di Garda in 100 anni di cinema”* at the Biblioteca Civica. Launched on June 20, 2025, this exhibit traces a century of cinematic storytelling around Lake Garda, spotlighting Riva’s role in over 60 Italian and international productions. Iconic scenes with Monica Vitti, cutting-edge directors, and vintage film posters weave together the town’s silver-screen legacy. Visitors can explore geo-localized maps of filming locations and relics from the region’s brush with cinematic fame. Historically, Riva del Garda’s charm runs deeper than film reels. The town has stood at the crossroads of European history since Roman times, fortified and reimagined through Venetian, Austrian, and Tyrolean rule. Its architecture whispers tales of shifting empires—whether you're gazing up at the medieval Torre Apponale, strolling around the water-washed Rocca (now home to a museum), or taking in the panoramic views from the Bastione above the town. Each stone seems to carry echoes of merchants, soldiers, poets, and painters.

La Chiesa di Santa Maria Inviolata is absolutely beautiful and unique, built in Baroque style. It was built in the early 17th century and is octagonal shaped inside. The architecture is just amazing. It is an absolute joy to visit and has stunning frescoes and oil paintings throughout. Attached to the church is a convent with beautiful cloisters and garden. It's a short walk from the lakeside and is well worth visiting.

Beautiful church just some minutes walk away from the lake. It looks pretty from outside and is very nice from inside as well. Has a large free public parking lot outside.
SACHIT V — Google review
Beautiful Baroque church with a unique square exterior and an octagon interior. The statues and frescoes and paintings are wonderful and worth checking out. Also check out the convent attached to it. Both are free!
Kent H — Google review
Exquisite round church, the pews are arranged around the star in the center of the marble floor
Kar K — Google review
Typical Italian church, on the plaza, providing a few moments of cool & calm. Does help focus the mind and rest your body sitting in a church for a few minutes.
Linda B — Google review
Beautifull and small octagonal church.

(Translated by Google) A nice church to visit and unexpectedly large and decorated. It's a shame about the lack of internal lights even in the face of an almost total lack of windows for the architectural style. The ceiling of the nave is completely bare, I imagine due to a more recent reconstruction.
