Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore is a stunning example of Romanesque architecture located in Verona, Italy. This landmark church, dedicated to Saint Zeno, boasts a rich history and houses an array of religious art. The interior is adorned with airy frescoes and an extraordinary 12th-century bronze door depicting biblical scenes and the saint's miracles. Visitors can also admire Mantegna's vibrant altarpiece, adding to the spiritual and artistic allure of this architectural masterpiece.
I recommend getting a 4 church pass, which lets you onto the 4 main churches. The church on the outside doesn't look impressive, but nevertheless.the inside is very impressive. It took us about 20 minutes to walk from our hotel to the church. Unfortunately, you can not go up the tower. All the churches that we visited had lots of history. If you get the chance, go and have a look. I would definitely recommend going and seeing for yourself.

Unique and special architecture, very impressive, both externally and internally. The choir area, divided into a lower and upper part, is extremely impressive. The size of the building is amazing, especially when you consider the period in which it was built. In addition, on the left side of the site plaza (facing the entrance) are several local restaurants with amazing local cuisine! Don't miss the mushroom pasta dish!
Ilan I — Google review
This is an absolutely stunning basilica, the architecture on the interior and exterior is gorgeous. This lovely church also has a very unique feature as it houses a crypt. It’s very well preserved and maintained, it’s got lots of beautiful works of art and holy relics. The inside of the church is very tranquil and peaceful. Its courtyard and gardens are beautiful, I really enjoyed the time I spent here. I would definitely recommend visiting this Basilica when visiting Verona.
Pong L — Google review
Beautiful cathedral on the edge of the town of Verona, not far from the Castile Vechio. It is one of the stops on the hop-on hop-off bus tours but well worth the 25 minutes walk from the centre of the city. The walk is mainly along the river so more enjoyable than just a march though city street. The staff at the entrance were helpful and knowledgeable. Admission is €4 for San Zano or €8 if you want a ticket that covers three other churches in Verona. The tickets are valid for 90 days so worth the money. Discounts are available for students and older people.
Graham P — Google review
Set in a pleasant square, somewhat off the beaten track. The Basilica itself is atmospheric, the inner cloisters beautiful. Coming to this part of Verona is well worth it - quieter, atmospheric, Italian
Chris T — Google review
Well worth a visit. This church dating back at least 1000 years has wonderful 12th and 13th century frescoes as well as wonderful brass plates on the original door. In tradition the crypt was the wedding location of Romeo & Juliet. Only €4 entry and you get an audio device to tell you of the key points of interest. Loved the 'graffiti' made by pilgrims 100s years ago on the even earlier frescoes. Shows some things don't change over the centuries.
Paddy O — Google review
Beautiful Basilica, with artifacts from many different areas (medieval, Renaissance, baroque,. Including nice fresco's ). Beautiful bronze doors, with scenes from the old and new testament. Despite the (starting) tourist season, nice and quiet. Nice lunches available in the shade in local restaurants on the square in front of the Basilica.

Basilica di Santa Anastasia, also known as Chiesa di Santa Anastasia, is a grand 13th-century Gothic church located in the heart of Verona, Italy. This impressive basilica is renowned for its stunning architecture and exquisite artwork, including a remarkable Gothic fresco by Pisanello depicting 'St. George & the Princess.'

Basilica di Santa Anastasia is absolutely stunning. The architecture, sculptures, and frescoes are all impressive and beautifully preserved. Every detail inside feels special, and the atmosphere is peaceful and inspiring.
Dragos M — Google review
The subdued exterior gives way to a sumptuous interior with a vast nave and several side chapels, all embellished with impressive works of art. The roof structure has had to be reinforced with steel ties to arrest movement which spoils the ceiling vistas but maybe something more visually sensitive could be designed in a future restoration?
Herm D — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking. The Basilica di Sant’Anastasia is not just a church it feels like stepping into a living painting. The details of the frescoes, the light filtering through the arches, and the calm silence inside create a truly divine atmosphere. A must visit for anyone who loves art, architecture, and quiet beauty.

Castle
Castel San Pietro is a medieval fortress located on a hill overlooking the city of Verona. The fortress, built in 1398, offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area. Visitors can reach the castle by taking the Funicolare di Castel San Pietro, a funicular railway that runs up to the hill. While entry into the castle itself is not permitted, many tourists enjoy walking through the beautiful tree-lined streets and capturing picturesque views of Verona from this vantage point.
We went straight to see the city view from the top and it was sooooooooooo satisfying. Lots of stairs but it worth it. The view is amazing, the bridges, small waves, little birds, and yellow trees. I could just stand there looking at the view forever. On the they I went, there was a man with his guitar which was very beautiful. He made the moment their memorable. Love love love
Kamolrat C — Google review
Fantastic spot to get a full view of the City of Verona. Stunning views. Small funicular railway takes you to the top where you can get lovely coffees, deserts and ice creams on a hot day. The peace and quiet up here is just what you need after leaving the city streets.
James F — Google review
I highly recommend coming here just for the views. There was a musician playing the guitar by the name of Claudio Romano, and he played Corcovado so nicely that I bought his CD for 10 euro (see videos for sound). I parked here, and took an automated tram that allowed us to not have to hike up in hot weather.
Matt W — Google review
The most beautiful sight for me in Verona. Such breathtaking views of Verona. Definitely a must see if you're visiting Verona. You can get here by foot or funicular and there's a bar on top.
Jonatan P — Google review
Stunning and most beautiful sight in Verona. This is a must visit. Take the small funicular railway to get you there. Return tickets are priced 3€ per person. At the top you can always find some local musician playing guitar which really creates wonderful atmosphere, so you can additionally enjoy the view with some Italian notes in background.
Milos L — Google review
great view, great for photos, fun spot. We caught the cable car to the top as it was a hot day. Many people think it is automatic, but its not. It is like an elevator, you need to press the button near the entry. Once up top, a great place to take photos is half way down the ramp to the left of the main viewing area. Your Friends or family can take a photo of you on the wall. The next stairs near the water drinking fountain can be used as a little slide if you are adventurous. Be careful it can ruin your pants and put holes.
Tyler N — Google review
You will see the best view of Verona front here... Nice place for a drink with friends, also you can walk all a way down to the city center passing through Ponte Pietra
Massimiliano R — Google review
It’s a small hill, not very high. You can walk to the top along a stone staircase or take a cable car. The view from the top is wide and open, offering a beautiful panorama of Verona’s old town. There are drinking fountains along the way and at the top, which is very convenient.⛰️

The well-preserved castle has been restored and renovated, housing an educational museum with an armory, statues, and artifacts. Visitors can enjoy a fantastic view from the bridge over the Etsch River and explore paintings from various eras inside the castle museum.
What an amazing medieval castle, it’s very well kept, it’s been restored and renovated. It’s in very good condition and it’s definitely very fascinating. Very educational and interesting, it has a museum located inside. It has an armoury and several statues and artifacts in and around the ground as well as a lovely bridge close by. San Fermo Maggiore is a historic Roman Catholic church located in Verona, Italy. It is celebrated for its exceptional combination of Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements. Originally built by Benedictine monks in the 11th century, the church underwent significant modifications during the 13th and 14th centuries under the Franciscan order. The unique design features a lower Romanesque church and an upper Gothic church, both adorned with remarkable frescoes and intricate wooden ceilings.
This church is not as popular as the duomo but just like it, it too has 2 churches inside with San Fermo having an upper and lower church. The lower church is smaller and has a lot of columns while the upper church is quite grand with a lot of paintings. There are several sarcophagi in this church.
Richard F — Google review
Wonderful view of how the church grew and changed through the successive orders that ran it. Topped with a spectacular wooden ceiling and carefully preserved and restored frescoes, the church is an incredible visit
Paul S — Google review
Defintiley worth checking out if your up around this area. We stumbled across it and decided to pay the €4 entry fee. They give you a small device that tells you the history of the place as you walk around.

Chiesa di San Fermo Maggiore can be visited on the combined €8 ticket and is one of the four main churches in Verona. It is comprised of a lower church and an upper church and both are worth visiting. There are beautiful frescoes and artwork to be found throughout both churches.
Keith — Google review
Verona is not short of good churches but this is interesting because you can see two churches, one on top of the other, plus even some foundation remnants of the earlier 5th century church. So it is possible to compare early Christian, Benedictine Romanesque, and Franciscan Gothic styles and chart the history of development in to what you see today.
Herm D — Google review
This church is unique because it has no just one but two churches. One church is located on the ground and the other church is located underground. Both churches are quite simple but this not the message right? So for one price you can see two churches, so this is God bargain right? 😝
Tomas O — Google review
July 2024 A church at this site may has been traced to the 8th century, and by the 11th century a second story and belltower was added by the Benedictine order. There is a "lower church" (chiesa inferiore) below the main church. The campanile was not completed until the 13th century, it contains six bells in F cast in 1755 and rung with the Veronese bellringing art. The presbytery hosts relics of the saints Fermo and Rustico.
Filiz Ç — Google review
The church of San Fermo Maggiore is really magical. It's made up of two parts, different but still going together. The lower church stuns mostly by frescoes, while the upper one has absolutely amazing ceiling. Ticket for four euro, or free with the Verona card.

Complesso del Duomo di Verona, also known as the Complex of the Dumo, is a collection of ancient Christian buildings in Verona. The main attraction is the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Matricolare, a stunning example of Romanesque architecture with Gothic influences. The cathedral houses an impressive Assumption of the Virgin painting by Titian and features a lavish interior adorned with frescoes.
Florence is a charming and peaceful town, a complete contrast to the bustling crowds of Rome. Strolling along its ancient cobblestone streets, one can feel the gentle rhythm of life, steeped in art and history. At its heart stands the Duomo Cathedral – with its iconic orange-red dome, like the beating heart of the city. It may not be massive, but it exudes grace and irresistible charm.
Trâm N — Google review
Unusually for Italy, Verona's duomo is hidden away down narrow streets and enclosed by surrounding buildings. Only the tall bell tower standing over the rooftops gives away its location from any distance. Perhaps because of this the exterior is not particularly striking. Step inside though and there are wonders galore. The fabulously ornate gilded organ casing has hinged door panels that are painted with allegorical scenes on the inside face so that they can only be seen when open. The cathedral walls have stunning frescoes with clever perspective to appear like marble panelling. And the fresco in the dome is alive with saintly figures in supplication to the virgin Mary. There is plenty of space and seats to sit and appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship.

Basilica di San Lorenzo in Verona, Italy is a historic Catholic church known for its remarkable Romanesque architecture. Built in the 12th century, it boasts twin cylindrical towers at the entrance and an interior adorned with alternating bands of brick and stone. Despite being off the beaten path, this 4th-century church near the river has survived earthquakes and offers a peaceful retreat from crowds.
Such a beautiful church! I loved the place, it was an unexpected suprise when we stumbled upon it :) the entrance and the yard is very cozy and quiet, you can come here to stay a bit outside the touristic areas and breath. The church itself is small compared to other churches, but I noticed balconies as soon as I entered - very lovely!

Entering the cloister of the 12th century San Lorenzo from Corso Cavour you’ll be on the right wing of this High Medieval church. Its Romanesque style architecture body alternating bricks and stones differs from the unique facade, well hidden on the left by one of the two imposing Norman style towers. The main altarpiece depicts a Madonna and child with Saints by Domenico Brusasorci (1566). Unexplained Symbolism of Columns capitals with Eagles keeping preys in their claws.

Lungadige San Giorgio is a captivating riverside promenade in Verona, constructed just before World War II after the demolition of the Santo Stefano houses. This scenic stretch runs alongside the Adige River, connecting Garibaldi and Pietra bridges. Recently refurbished, it features a spacious cycle path and wide sidewalks, making it perfect for leisurely strolls or bike rides. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of Verona's historic old town while soaking in the charming atmosphere that this picturesque location offers.
A beautiful walk along the river around one of the most magical cities in Europe. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend taking a stroll here. Beautiful water and Verona on one side and historical buildings on the hillside on the other. Great views, not a ton of street workers like other parks, and not a ton of graffiti. It felt safe and serene.

Piazza Duomo is a captivating square that serves as the gateway to Verona's magnificent Cathedral, dedicated to Santa Maria Matricolare. This historical site is rich in artistry, featuring stunning frescoes and intricate sculptures that tell tales of the past. Originally built in Romanesque style, the cathedral underwent a transformation into Gothic architecture following an earthquake in 1117. Visitors can enjoy picturesque views of its impressive facade adorned with a striking bronze angel statue.

Chiesa delle Sante Teuteria e Tosca is the oldest church in Verona and the Veneto region, dating back to 751. It is dedicated to two relatively unknown saints and is located next to the more recent church of Santi Apostoli. The small church sits partly below street level, giving it a mysterious catacomb-like feel as you descend the steps to enter.

(Translated by Google) Chiesa delle Santi Teuteria e Tosca, Verona, Italy. Adjacent to the church of the Holy Apostles is the chapel of Saints Teuteria and Tosca from the 5th century, located on a foundation approximately two meters lower than the adjacent church, which somewhat confirms that it was at the level of the former Roman road Via Postumia. The chapel is located on the former site of a Roman or Christian martyr's tomb, then becoming a chapel in the 8th century when it was renovated on the occasion of the deposition of the relics of Saints Teuteria and Tosca. The legend says that Teuteria, daughter of an English king, fled from the court thanks to a pagan noble, finds her place in these lands in a cave where old Tosca used to live. When the pursuers arrived a thick web woven by spiders protected their entrance making it impossible to kill her. So after this incident, the two lived together for a long time until the end of their lives, dying on close dates in the year 263. There was a cult here in Verona since the Middle Ages after the year 750, and it was strengthened later by the appearance of this venerated cult of Teuteria. The chapel was built of clay bricks laid apparently alternating with layers of pebbles with limestone inserts, giving this construction a sober and austere appearance both externally and internally. (Original) Chiesa delle Santi Teuteria e Tosca, Verona ,Italia .

Nestled in the heart of Verona, Ristorante Pizzeria San Matteo Church offers a unique dining experience within the walls of a deconsecrated medieval church. This charming eatery boasts an extensive pizza menu alongside other classic dishes, all served in an atmosphere that beautifully blends history with culinary delight. As you approach through the quaint alleyway, you'll be captivated by the restaurant's intriguing architecture and ambiance.
I went there because of the location. It is really something different, a restaurant in a church. Sadly, the original interior is not addressed in any way, rather covered up, mainly by a monstrosity of the added second floor, taking up most of the space. But the food and the service were great (I had a young guy with black hair), who recommended me a risotto which arrived in seconds and turned out perfect. Price wise very reasonable, 12.50 with a large sparkling water and coperta. It was full of locals enjoying the pizza. Would return for the food, but not for the interior ;)

Chiesa di San Giovanni in Foro is a small church with a remarkable history of surviving natural disasters like earthquakes and fires. Dating back to around 1000, the interior features exposed walls and a presbytery with a high altar in polychrome marble. The church also houses beautiful mosaics, sculptures, and paintings by renowned Italian artists. Its ancient origins are reflected in the architecture, which includes Roman foundations.
This is a beautiful church on one of the main streets in the historical old town of Verona. The church dates back to the tenth century and was built on foundations from the Roman times. There are many beautiful mosaics and frescoes, and the architecture reflects to its age. The entrance is free and it is certainly worth a visit when you are in Verona

The church dates at least back to the XII century. The church was damaged by a fire that destroyed most of Verona in 1172 and by this reason, it has affixed an inscription engraved on a marble triptych on the external wall, which commemorates the event of that year "combusta est civitas Verone"

Chiesa di Santo Stefano is a remarkable church located in the Veronetta district near the Church of S. Giorgio in Braida. It is part of the water cycle of the minor Jerusalem route and is considered to be the oldest church in Verona, showcasing early Christian architecture that has been remodeled multiple times over the centuries.
This is a unique basilica, which was initially established as a Roman temple dedicated to the Egyptian goddess Isis. The temple was consecrated as a Christian church in the fifth century and for a while served as the main cathedral of Verona. There are incredible frescoes and reliquaries, as well as a statue from the tenth century. It is certainly one of the places to visit when you are in Verona

This is not a review of the Church, and I am not trying to discourage anyone from going there. We were quietly sitting on the sidewalk, for shelter during a thunderstorm when the lady came and slammed the door shut behind us angrily. She didn't say a word, just let us sit outside in the rain and locked the door. What happened to the kindness and "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"? Again, the church itself looks beautiful and this experience would not stop me from visiting it.

Francesco P — Google review
(Translated by Google) It is the oldest church in Verona built in the 5th century on the remains of altars dedicated to Isis. It has undergone extensive renovations over the centuries but the Romanesque aspect essentially emerges. Due to the presence of the remains of six bishops and a stone episcopal chair, it is assumed that it may have been an episcopal seat but, in my opinion, it is important for two distinctive elements: - the presence of an important lantern of the Lombard Romanesque school, unique in Verona. - the Chapel of the Innocents built by Monsignor. Varalli which, with the Palazzo Maffei in Piazza delle Erbe, represent the two rare examples of Baroque in a medieval city. There is so much more to see, well worth a visit.

(Translated by Google) The church was born with a single hall and on one floor. The current appearance, on three naves and three floors (crypt, plebeian church and presbytery) is linked to the presence of numerous relics that tradition wants preserved in Santo Stefano (or Sanstefano, as the Veronese say...). In the pre-Romanesque era the church was divided into three naves, connected by two overlapping ambulatory, a very rare case, which contained the relics; in fact, an obligatory passage was created for pilgrims who wanted to touch the remains of the saints preserved here. In the Romanesque era the crypt was excavated with the consequent raising of the presbytery. The dimly lit and intimate environment became the ideal place for the conservation of relics and for those who wanted to gather in prayer. Finally, in 1620, Msgr. Varalli had the baroque chapel built which bears his name together with that of the Innocents, the little victims of King Herod: tradition states that four little bodies rest under the main altar.

(Translated by Google) The small church, which practically stands next to the majestic and wonderful Basilica of San Zeno, was built on the foundations of a previous early Christian church from the 5th century, rebuilt at the beginning of the 13th century and dedicated to the fourth Bishop of Verona. Subsequent interventions partially compromised its original beauty until it was used as a theater in the 19th century and only in the 1980s was it restored to the faithful and visitors. On the outside, note the Romanesque-inspired façade with a beautiful 18th-century octagonal window and the arch over the portal with the remains of 14th-century frescoes. In the interior, with a single nave, some paintings by Antonio Badile and Giambettino Cignaroli, funerary monuments of saints (Euprepius, Proculus, Agapito and Cricino), an interesting Last Supper from 1764 by Giorgio Anselmi, the statue of blessing San Proculus (14th century) and a valuable underground crypt with remains of the early Christian church (Original) La piccola chiesa, che sorge in pratica di fianco alla maestosa e meravigliosa Basilica di San Zeno, venne realizzata sulle fondamenta di una precedente chiesa paleocristiana del V secolo, riedificata agli inizi del XIII secolo e dedicata al quarto Vescovo di Verona.

It is important to see this church where for a while you can retreat here and regain your inner peace in front of the four great altars, worshiping in front of the overwhelming baroque altar of the presbytery. You are in an old church from the 12th century where simplicity is masterfully complemented with the aura of the incomparable baroque style. (Original) Chiesa di San Luca Evanghelista ,Verona, Italy.

(Translated by Google) Many times we have carelessly walked along Corso Porta Nova, through Portoni della Brà to Piazza Brà, without noticing this church. The church's origins date back to 1172, when the Order of the Knights Templar commissioned its construction. In 1691, the high altar was rebuilt in the Baroque style, and between 1753 and 1755, in just two years, the building was completely renovated and enlarged inside, essentially taking on its present form. Unfortunately, due to urban development, the church has been enclosed on three sides, thus missing the main façade. All that remains is a glimpse of the side façade with its Corinthian pilasters and entrance portal with tympanum. Inside, be sure to see the Baroque marble high altar.

Turning around, you can admire the city from above and the rolling hills all around. Surrounding the little church is a wonderful garden, well-maintained by unknown volunteers. Chiesa di Santa Teresa degli Scalzi, also known as the church of the Scalzi, is a stunning Baroque-style Roman Catholic church located in central Verona, Italy. It was originally dedicated to SS.ma Annunziata before being rededicated to Santa Teresa D'Avila.
A very ancient church with some amazing historical facts.

(Translated by Google) Church of Santa Teresa degli Scalzi, Verona, Italy. I discovered in Verona a church of an Order unknown to my religious knowledge, that of the Discalced Carmelites! An order introduced by Saint Teresa and extended to male monks. This order has, first of all, a more spiritual orientation and then that of preaching, with a strong focus on missionary works. The first impression, seeing the austere facade with Saint Teresa in three poses, was still that of exploring the interior .If the exterior architecture does not impress, the octagonal interior can amaze any art lover. You will see a huge central altar with an impressive rertablo and two other sides made of polychrome marble with twisted columns that are works of perfect art. Other works such as the two statues depicting the prophets Elijah and Elisha and the altarpiece with the Savior with the poor around him are perfect achievements. The overwhelming impression is when you stop your gaze on the central canvas of the Altar that depicts Saint Maria Annunziata with the angels of heaven around her, with the Eternal Father above all. Art faithfully intertwines here with the religious phenomenon in the Catholic world.

Going in search of it, I find it somehow integrated between the other buildings in a very narrow space, drawing my attention to the facade resembling a temple without a rose supported on massive Corinthian columns. The two niches located on one side and on the other side of the entrance contain the partially damaged statues of the two holy martyrs Fermo and Rustico. The interior contrasts with the exterior, being a striking white decorated with golden elements. The altar, a large scene of white marble with golden moldings dominated by the large wooden crucifix, stands out for its fineness of detail and grandeur. I saw the few altars, the statues representing the 13 Apostles, the crypt with the niche on the wall of which are placed the stones with traces of blood on which the martyrs San Fermo and San Rustico were tortured. The bell tower consists of six bells on a ring and rings in the well-known and famous chords of the Veronese churches! (Translated by Google) the current church of San Pietro Martire stands right on the foundations of the birthplace of the saint, born Pietro Rosini (1205-1252), which benefactors purchased and then donated to the Dominicans of the monastery of Sant'Anastasia. The first stone of the church was laid in 1656 and, above the portal, still houses a statue of the saint which was placed in the house at the time. In a niche, on the left altar, there is another wooden statue by an unknown sculptor from the 16th century which depicts Peter according to classical iconography, i.e. with his head split by a blow from an axe, which is the martyrdom to which he was condemned for having fought the heretics. In 1809 the church fell back into Napoleonic suppression and was used for other uses, such as between 1827 and 1860, when a bell foundry was located there. In 1861 the building was restored and reopened for worship, as recalled by the epigraph on the counter-façade.

Church of Saint Mary 'Antica' is a remarkable Romanesque Catholic church in Verona, Italy. Built in 1185, it features a small bell tower and brick-covered spire. Dedicated to Saint Zeno, an early Christian Bishop of the city, the church is considered one of the finest Romanesque churches in northern Italy. It houses impressive frescoes and artworks and is known for its magnificent tomb structures outside.
This church is quite small when you compare it to San Fermo which is near our the Duomo and Santa Anastasia but this church is also quite ancient and is very well-maintained. Entrance is free. It's right besides the scaligeri tombs which are just besides the entrance.

(Translated by Google) It is a real Church which however was born as the Baptistery of the Cathedral; ancient as the first construction but then, like many similar structures in Verona, renovated in the 12th century after the devastating earthquake that hit the city; it is therefore an anomalous Baptistery because it is a structure with three naves, very simple in truth, with a splendid Baptismal Font with sculpture all around, there are no chapels except two very small ones on the sides of the simple Altar; The remains of some ancient frescoes both behind the Altar and in the naves are very worthy of note and attention. Pretty. Bella.

The church, built after the earthquake of 1117 with the oldest materials, was completed in 1123. Small and compact with the pipe organ by Silvio Micheli, with a straight pedal board without its own registers. The confessionals are also beautiful. Belli pure i confessionali.

The complex is part of a circuit of four city churches, which can be visited with a cumulative ticket of six euros. The baptistery, in reality, is a church with three naves, whose original entrance can still be seen, although blocked, on the right wall. The 13th century baptismal font is a superb work: 8 panels punctuated by columns show biblical episodes, narrated in bas-relief with the drill technique. Some scenes, such as that of the Three Wise Men or that of the baptism of Christ, have unusual iconography, derived from the apocryphal gospels. On the walls you can see fragments of frescoes from various periods, some of which overlap! Absolutely worth visiting together with the cathedral!

(Translated by Google) The Church of Sant'Elena in Verona is a small, hidden gem, often overlooked by tourists but rich in history and charm. Built in the 12th century, it is part of the Verona Cathedral complex and is a place of great historical significance: in 1329, a town assembly was held here, which Dante Alighieri is said to have attended. The exterior is simple, with Romanesque architecture that blends well with the surrounding context, but the church's true value lies within. It is said to house frescoes and valuable works of art, as well as archaeological remains of an early Christian basilica. Unfortunately, when I visited, it was closed, likely because I happened to be there during a closing time or on a day when it was closed. However, I recommend checking the opening hours, as it is definitely worth a visit. It is not among the most well-known places in Verona, but for this very reason, it is a fascinating discovery for those who love art and history.

Nestled in the heart of Verona, the Chiesa di San Nicolò all'Arena is a stunning baroque church that dates back to the seventeenth century. This architectural gem stands proudly next to the iconic Arena di Verona and boasts an impressive facade that was relocated from another church after World War II bombings. The interior features a Latin cross nave supported by numerous Corinthian columns, creating a serene atmosphere perfect for reflection.
It is very impressive like any other catedral or church or basilica in Italy. Pure architecture and style.
Mustafa A — Google review
San Nicolò all'Arena is a beautiful, smaller church near Verona’s Arena. It has an interesting history — originally built in the 1600s on top of a much older church, and the current front was added in the 1950s using parts from another church destroyed in WWII. Inside there are some unique details like a painted ceiling that makes it look like there’s a dome. Worth a quick visit if you’re nearby and want to see something historical without the crowds. No entry fee.
Aljosa T — Google review
If you have a minute while visiting the Arena then pop into this church which is alongside. It has a very pleasing entrance facade with an unusual double pediment. This, it turns out, was necessary because the facade came from another church that had been destroyed in a WW2 air raid and it was slightly too small for San Nicola so they built a second pediment to fill the gap. The interior is fairly plain but is enlivened by winged cherubs dangling from the cornices holding the chains for the suspended incense burners.
Herm D — Google review
A beautiful church just a few minutes from the Arena. From here you can wander the narrow streets toward another square, and from there it’s only a stone’s throw to Juliet’s house. The whole area, with its colorful buildings and tight little streets, is really impressive. Stepping into the church gives you a chance to pause, cool down, and take in the stunning interiors in a calm, peaceful setting.

Inside, a single nave divided by two bays, interesting paintings by Veronese artists from the mid-fourteenth century: THE Madonna with Child Enthroned, Saint Anthony the Abbot and Saint Catherine and the Madonna with Child Enthroned and Saint John the Evangelist, both works by Turone Di Maxio; the Annunciation by G. Nel 1424 la chiesa venne ceduta alla Confraternita di San Pietro Martire da cui l’intitolazione al Santo veronese, ucciso dagli eretici nel 1254 ed in seguito divenuto patrono della città con San Zeno.

(Translated by Google) Former Catholic church, deconsecrated, located next to the church of Sant'Anastasia. Built in the 13th century by the Dominicans in Gothic style. Only in 1424 was it dedicated to the Veronese saint, San Pietro Martire. In the 14th century it became the chapel of the German Brandenburg knights who decorated it with coats of arms and votive frescoes depicting Saint George. Above the arch that gave access to the Dominican convent, since 1321, there has been the tomb of Guglielmo da Castelbarco which was later taken as a model for the construction of the Scaliger Tombs. It can be visited free of charge from 1 June to 30 September on Saturdays and Sundays from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm. The Santi Apostoli Catholic Church in Verona, which is now partially merged with the Chiesa dei Santi Apostoli, is a historic and culturally significant place of worship. It was consecrated in 751 A.D. by Bishop Annone and is considered to be the oldest Catholic Church in Veneto.

Now partly merged with the Chiesa dei Santi Apostoli, this hidden shrine of culture and art, Consecrated in 751 A.D. by Bishop Annone, is considered to be the oldest Catholic Church in Veneto; In 1160 two corpses believed to be the ones of the two saints Teuteria and Tosca were found here and are since then placed in a red marble coffin that you can see above the 17th Century altar; Noteworthy the tomb of Francesco Bevilacqua, advisor and ambassador of the Scaligeri Family, Lords of Verona, in the 14th Century.

This is very moving as a location. Simplicity of structure and sense of its importance as a centre of worship give it an atmosphere of gravity ,originally a site of paleochtistian burial, its apse structure reminds of early Christian worship. Far from the later embellishments.

The church is not included in the great circuits of the city but art is just as strongly represented here with the same finesse and we encounter it in the suppleness of the nave with the three apses, altars containing sculptures and paintings by famous artists, a large stationary cross, altars with frescoes representing impressive biblical scenes. (Translated by Google) Chiesa della Santissima Trinita in Monte Oliveto, Verona, Italy. Not far from Piazza Cittadela you can see the square spire of a typical Veronese bell tower that rises to the sky from the crowd of buildings in the neighborhood. Somewhat included in the street architecture, the church of the Holy Trinity preserves the air of typical rural solitude and you find it somewhat immersed in the garden with olive trees and vines adjoining living room. Take your first steps through the atrium, where the former ancient necropolis is located, having that romantic imprint, a remnant of the old church. The interior has a single nave with three apses at the end, all covered by a ceiling made of wooden trusses. From the old church with Romanesque origins, you can still see extended portions of frescoes on the side walls and in the arched space of the apse that has survived time, since the 11th century. The altars are impressive, all culminating in the main apse of the presbytery where you can admire a valuable old fresco representing Holy Trinity. Personally, I could feel here a history that seemed irretrievably lost, but now everything is saved and well preserved. (Original) Chiesa della Santissima Trinita in Monte Oliveto ,Verona ,Italia .

(Translated by Google) A few steps away from “Parking Verona” is Chiesa della Santissima in Monte Oliveto. We passed her many times carelessly on the way to the historic center. This time it was supposed to be a flying visit. The church was built by the Vallombrosani monks starting in 1073 and consecrated in 1117 in honor of the Holy Trinity. The gable facade is of Romanesque type and gives access to the atrium, which consists of a series of coupled columns. The masonry is typical of the Veronese Romanesque style with corresponding rows of terracotta and bricks and then ends at the top with the decoration of the classic rampant arches on the lower eaves. The bell tower repeats the color change and ends with a conical terracotta roof and four pinnacles. L

(Translated by Google) Church of SS. Santi Nazaro and Celso, Verona, Italy. Verona has many such churches, each with its own history and beauty! You can find this one in the Veronetta district, somewhat off the beaten path and already so famous of the city. Like many of Verona's places of worship, this settlement also had an extremely interesting history. Its history seems to stretch over more than 1000 years, during which it underwent extremely many restorations and transformations, and who wants to know more about this church can learn this. Today we see a building with a sober facade but with a fascinating interior. Entering here you will see the 5 chapels with in their "windows" paintings of great value made by famous Veronese painters! The church is composed of three naves with an impressive presbytery having a barrel-shaped ceiling richly decorated with fresco paintings. In the right arm of the transept you find the masterpiece of this church the Chapel called San Biagio containing the Relics of the martyrs San Biagio and Santa Giuliana. The architecture of the chapel and the paintings made by great famous artists of those times give a huge value to this chapel. (Original) Chiesa dei SS. Santi Nazaro e Celso , Verona ,Italia .

The Church of Saint Thomas Apostle, also known as San Tomio, has a rich history and has undergone various transformations over the years. Originally a female Benedictine monastery, it later became a collegiate church before being deconsecrated and turned into a theater, only to be restored back to its original purpose as a church. The church is known for its welcoming atmosphere and hosts regular religious services including Holy Mass and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

(Translated by Google) The Church of San Tomio, located in the heart of Verona, is a place of worship that has its roots in the Middle Ages. Founded around the 12th century, the church takes its name from San Tomio, one of the Christian martyrs venerated in the city. Although it is not one of the best known churches in Verona, it has an important historical relevance due to its connection with the religious tradition of the city. Its interior is characterized by a solemn and intimate atmosphere, with the typical architecture of medieval churches. The cross vaults and stained glass windows contribute to creating a peaceful and meditative environment. However, compared to other more famous Veronese churches such as San Zeno or Santa Anastasia, the Church of San Tomio does not present particular works of art or historical finds that make it an unmissable site for the tourist or visitor in search of art history . In conclusion, the Church of San Tomio is undoubtedly a place of peace and spirituality, but, although it is a beautiful church, it does not have particularly distinctive elements that place it among the obligatory stops on a tourist tour of Verona. It's a good place to visit for those interested in discovering lesser-known corners of the city, but there's nothing that makes it stand out from other historic churches and places of worship in the area.

(Translated by Google) Along the main shopping street is this church, once the site of the pagan temple dedicated to the Goddess Vesta. A first church/convent seems to have already existed in the 9th century, but its current name comes from a 15th century document. In 1748 the church was modernized by the architect Cristofoli, but in 1815 it became the "Morando" theatre, until it was reconsecrated in 1842 and then passed (1919) under the administration of the Missionary Sons of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Combonians). to which it still belongs today. The building on the outside does not present great stylistic refinements, while the interior has a neoclassical appearance, a single nave and four semi-chapels with some paintings such as San Zeno by Napoleone Razzetti, the altarpiece of the Sacred Heart by Giuseppe Zannoni and two altars: Altar with the Holy Family and St. John Calabria and Altar dedicated to St. Teresa of the Child Jesus and St. Francis Xavier, patrons of the Missions Frankly it is not an unmissable and prominent church... with everything there is to see in Verona I would only visit it if you have time available... The Catholic church, known as Chiesa Parrocchiale dei Santi Fermo e Rustico, offers a stunning natural backdrop with its picturesque hilltop location. Its interior is adorned with ancient and sacred artwork that tells a rich historical narrative. The church's architecture and decorations are impressive, capturing the attention of visitors. Furthermore, the panoramic view from the church is truly awe-inspiring and takes in the surrounding beautiful landscape.
We got married in the beautiful Chiesa Santi Fermo e Rustico. With its unique setting on a hill, overlooking the beautiful Veneto vineyards, it is a absolute gem. Don Marco, priest of the local community, was open to letting us as strangers getting married in his church, helped in getting documents ready and supported the priest that we brought with us to prepare for the service. We thank him and the community of Santi Fermo e Rustico very much.
