Le Carré du Palais, also known as The Square Palace, is a must-visit for wine enthusiasts in Avignon. This elegant bistro offers outdoor seating with stunning views of the palace. It houses the first wine school in Avignon and can accommodate 18 students.
We were very lucky to follow the recommendation of a receptionist in our hotel and to come here. The serving and the flavours are beautiful and unique. Service is attentive and the atmosphere is amazing indoors and outdoors.
Golan K — Google review
Nice restaurant, comfortable with good options of French food. We choose the menu and our starter was Nougat Foie Gras, very disappointing. It was sweet and tasted like dessert. As main, we chose the red meat option and it was delicious. Very good meat, tasty, good amount.
Maria B — Google review
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Le Carre last evening. The restaurant offers set prices for two course and three course meals at two separate levels. One can also order at random from the menu. It has an extensive wine list. There is outdoor seating, literally in front of the Palace du Papes, as well as indoor seating. Service was friendly and professional. A good choice for dinner.
Michael L — Google review
Le Carré du Palais in Avignon delivered a wonderful dinner experience with refined local cuisine, smooth service, and well-chosen wines. The staff was attentive throughout our meal, making us feel welcomed and well taken care of. Menu highlights such as the French veal fillet with chestnuts and wild mushrooms paired with recommended excellent wine—demonstrating the house’s legendary focus on perfect food and wine harmony. The ambiance, facing the Palais des Papes, added a historic Provençal charm to the evening. Altogether, it’s an excellent choice for a sophisticated dinner in Avignon—highly recommended for food quality, service, and wine expertise
Hadi C — Google review
We were recommended this restaurant by a local tour guide and are so glad we went. Beautiful courtyard seating, nice staff, and great food. Wine pairing with every food optiok available.
Sabina S — Google review
We had a wonderful meal here earlier this week. We had the gazpacho soup to begin with and then the risotto and the tune tartare. WOW! All the dishes were fantastic, flavorsome, fresh and exciting. Just what we were looking for. Highly recommend this restaurant and would happily come back again and again
John H — Google review
A deserved 5 star rating. We walked in on a Sunday evening and got a nice table for two. Excellent food with good choices to put together a 2-course menu.
George P — Google review
Nothing wrong with it. But somewhat overpriced. The quality is correct. However, the quantity isn’t so generous. The waiters were great, and the atmosphere is nice. I was somewhat disappointed with the cuisine. A classic tourist trap.

Tapas bar
Wine bar
Marion Nous - Bar à Vins & Tapas is a cozy and intimate wine bar that's popular among the locals in Avignon. The ambiance is inviting with book-lined walls, soft lighting, and exposed beams creating a charming atmosphere. Marion, the owner, takes pride in curating an impressive wine selection from across the country to cater to every palate.
Marvellous. Came across this place by chance right across the street from our AirBnB. Really nice looking venue with an inviting atmosphere - set of small simple tables set out under a local market roof across the street from the cosy kitchen / bar. Some occupied already by couples / friends enjoying their company and wine or beer. This place has a short but ecclectic food menu - vegetarian and meat dishes, meets tapas, meets epicurian! We were served promptly and efficiently, and the waitresses were friendly and relaxed. The food was really fresh, tasty, high quality and delicious. I also enjoyed the best glass of red wine I've had in a long time! Their wine list is interesting - carefully chosen no doubt. All in all an absolute pleasure. Thank you Marion for your fine contribution to 'gastronomie'! 👏
Crispin Z — Google review
Wonderfully casual atmosphere, delicious food, friendly service, and the chef came out to talk with us for a bit. The orange pie is one of the most delectable desserts I've ever tasted in my life.

Ewa M — Google review
Fantastic atmosphere. Wooden tables and terrace sheltered by plane trees. An amazing wine list, especially from Spain and the Nortern Rhone Valley. I can taste the wine and then buy it, which is very practical. The food is amazing, not expensive for the quality. Tapas are really nice, both in substance and in form. There's much creativity here. Waiters are customer-oriented and friendly.
Baz' — Google review
Great little bar, excellent wine and food. Marion, the owner, was lovely. Would highly recommend.
Johanna E — Google review
3.5 - Went for a drink on an incredibly quiet night in Avignon (Sunday, off season, cold). Seemed nice enough, gave details of wine on menu and poured from bottle, so potentially good for tasting a selection. Only came for wine.
Natasha B — Google review
Rude service. Because I was by myself working with my computer, although I was consuming food and drinks, they told me I had to leave to use the table for other consumers. People near me who were spending their time talking, instead of working alone, were told nothing. Apparently I was using a table for 2 being only 1... I won't never come back to this place. Also, they offer only a few dishes and not so good.

Perfect place for a perfect evening. Thanks.

Nestled on the picturesque banks of the Rhône, Vinotage - Barge Wine is a charming floating wine bar that promises an unforgettable experience for wine lovers. Housed in a beautifully transformed 1900s German barge, this unique venue has become a beloved spot for enjoying sundowner drinks while soaking in stunning views of Avignon and the iconic Palais des Papes.
By far one of the most memorable parts of our trip to France. Not only was the atmosphere beautiful, the wine list and food amazing. The staff literally made us feel like family by the time we left. We went 3 times on our trip, and I wished we could have gone more. It has the most beautiful views of the city of Avignon. I can’t wait to come back the next time we are here!
Daniel P — Google review
High hopes for the wine barge across from our hotel. The wine knowledge was impressive, however the wine list unnecessarily extensive/ expensive and the food underwhelming. Don't show on an empty stomach- we didn't eat all day following our travels and it didn't quite hit the spot.
Kathleen O — Google review
Really nice experience. Very reasonably priced wines and lovely food. But the barge has the very best views of Avignon
Donal W — Google review
Fantastic experience that was so good, we went back twice within a few days! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff with a very well curated wine list with wines from across France (great Burgundy selections!), and delicious but simple and approachable food. The woman who i believe to be the owner is exceptionally charming and very thoughtful. She remembered us both after only one visit, and really helped to make my 40th birthday a memorable day! Don't change a thing, you are all amazing at Vinotage!
Paul B — Google review
Stumbled across this gem by chance. A little walk away from Avignon centre but worth every step. Calm, peaceful boat on the Rhone river overlooking a magnificent view of Avignon Centre and the Palais des Papes. Covered outside and inside space with contemporary furniture and fantastic service. Got a wine tasting flight to start which was great to get a taste of the wonderful selection they carry here. We're English speaking and the owner was very welcoming and was super friendly to get us comfortable. If we had more time on our trip we would come back again, definitely! They are newly opened apparently when we visited so I wish them all the success for this great little venture!!! Highly recommended!
Tim C — Google review
Great concept, excellent food and wine, reasonably priced. Run by very nice people.
Sue B — Google review
Such a nice place to go for a drink! They have some food and the staff is very friendly! Unfortunately the only photo I took was of this cool table on wine bottles
Veronica L — Google review
Amazing location on the Rhone river, great view of Avignon at daytime or night time. Super friendly staff and great choice of wine from all around France. The food is good but nothing special and is made of Antipasti and snacks. A place to go to for dates and plus. You won't be amazed by the food but the atmosphere, view and staff make this place. Will definitely go back for apéro.

Nestled within the charming Hotel de Caumont, Restaurant Le Violette offers a delightful dining experience with its globally influenced dishes and elegant courtyard setting. The restaurant serves Asian-influenced fusion fare for both lunch and dinner, even when the art gallery is closed. Visitors rave about the creative and well-executed dishes, such as the sublime cod with coconut curry, savory Risotto with ceps, and sweet duck confit. The owner is praised for being accommodating and sweet.
Exceptional food, wonderful environment, and incredible hosts. The owners Corinne and Nicholas are amazing people, the chef and team work so hard to deliver you the best flavours which we were so grateful for, and we would not be surprised if this time next year they had Michelin stars. We have visited three times to this restaurant, we absolutely adore it, and could not recommend more. In Avignon, this restaurant is not to be missed. The beautiful courtyard at night is so romantic, it's location provides a calmer oasis to the main street, and you will feel relieved to find this gem, truly. We adore you team Le Violette, thank you for memories that will last a lifetime xxxxx

Very nice place, reservation only by phone. Please make it online make people life easier please :) I asked my sister in law to book it for us! Place is very nice secluded yard with the big tree and shade! The restaurant inside is very small but outside place is huge! We took for starters LABNED, ZA'ATAR, TOASTED BRED and TOMATOES, BURRATA, PESTO. Very tasty! And for main ARGENTINE SHRIMP, RED CURRY VEGETEBLES THAI RICE. For 28 euros I would expect more than 5 shrimps in it to be honest. It was nice but not enough seafood. 🍤 It is not authentic French cuisine also plus on expensive side but experience was nice. I ate in much better places for less money in France but still it was not bad. But I would not be back.

This place is such gem! We have hosted our wedding dinner there and we had about 50 guests! The food was amazing and the staff so kind and accommodating. Thank you Corrine and Nicholas for everything. Our compliments to the chef as well, the good was outstanding! We look forward to coming back again in the future.

I try to save the best grades for the right moment. We are on a trip through Europe and we stumbled upon this place as a strong choice for lunch upon our arrival because it was close to our hotel and the train station. Unfortunately, it was completely booked, so we made reservations for dinner instead. The food was outstanding all the way, but the ribs were just amazing, among the best I've ever had. Very good service with a lot of smiles in a great setting in a beautiful inner yard. If we ever get the chance to visit Avignon again, this is the first place I would want to visit. Should not be missed.
Johan B — Google review
What a gem of a place in an amazing location. On the grounds of a museum, the location make it very cozy. The inside of the restaurant is equally impressive with a greatly maintained interior. We were there for dinner and had - a couple of cocktails that were great. - dame de shangai - a great, creamy chicken salad. - Risotto - a simple and good tasting dish - cod - this was an absolute hit, the flavorful soup was something we never had before and all the flavors stood out. My wife never had a such softly cooked fish. - Vanilla Mille Feuille - this was our first time trying the dish, and it tasted great. Also, the staff was great, very friendly and considerate. Would definitely come back.

A perfect stop for a fresh and delicious lunch. Sitting outside under the trees is a perfect way to spend lunch time. The servers were very kind. The melon and goat cheese salad was something I’ll be thinking about for a long time.
Elena E — Google review
The atmosphere was charming, and the exterior was magnificent although we were inside since it was a bit cool for us. The menu was mixed ethnicities which was interesting. An Asian starter was amazing, the main courses varied, and while candied eggplant is a dish I have never tried, I went for it, seems eggplant is big in this area of France. Candied eggplant is middle Eastern in origin and very interesting. Great breads as always, and all new flavors for our dinner..worth the try and an easy walk in this charming city
Merilyn B — Google review
We decided to have lunch here after visiting Collection Lambert. It was a pleasant experience with excellent service. Staff were all helpful and kind. We ordered the sea bream and ribs main plates with two glasses of wine. All were tasty. Prices are higher but seem fair for the quality and large portions. The atmosphere dining under the trees in the courtyard makes it a memorable meal.

Small place with delicious French cuisine. We had the best duck of our trip here! Made to perfection! Delicious! The foie gras is also very good, worth to try if you never had or if you’re a lover. Try to make a reservation first, to make sure you get a table. The kitchen of the restaurant closes at 9:30, make sure to put your orders in before that. The waiters are fast and very polite, both speak English.
Maria B — Google review
Service was good, even though they forgot our wine orders it was rectified quickly. The pork main dish was delicious and was super enjoyable. The flavours of the duck also stood out! We enjoyed our escargots and frogs legs starters too and finished off with the apricot tart and praline dessert both of which were amazing. Would 100% return to eat it all again (especially the pork!)
Lochana — Google review
What an amazing experience! The food menu is small and simple, and delicious. The wine menu is smaller than I thought it would be, but loaded with killer wines. Everything we got was fantastic. They also have a huge selection of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks that are great. And, the people running this place could not be better. Very friendly and helpful, and happy to answer questions and make recommendations. Lastly, they have a great in-store “wine cellar” where they sell many of the bottles from their by-the-glass menu. We bought a couple bottles to take home. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Chris S — Google review
Excellent restaurant in the heart of Avignon. Super friendly stuff and delicious food! Their wine list wonderful and reasonably priced. I dine here twice during my stay and in both times everything was absolutely perfect! Don’t search elsewhere but home dine here :)
Ayelet K — Google review
Very relaxed but attentive service. If i lived in Avignon I could easily call this my go-to restaurant. My first experience with escargot in France - they were wonderful. American restaurants (even fine dining venues) tend to smother them with garlic & oil. These were much more gently seasoned & full of complex flavors - truly delicious!
James H — Google review

O'Collins's Irish Pub is an authentic Irish-themed pub located in the heart of Avignon. It offers a wide range of draft and bottled beers, cocktails, and whiskies along with a menu featuring tapas, pizzas, fish, meats, and fries. The pub hosts live music events and has big-screen sports for entertainment.
This is a great pub! Beautiful outdoor seating, great indoor seating, music on particular nights and the staff is simply fantastic. Shout out to Cara and the manager. We were in Avignon for the month of 2025 and they always made us feel welcome. Very much appreciated!
John S — Google review
Great pub in Avignon, lots of beer and a cider on tap. Generous sized meal, typical of pub fare. I had the chicken burger, a little different to the usual, quite tasty and very filling. We also had a pasta, falafel, feta salad (salad of the day). Good atmosphere with Al fresco seating to watch the world. Happy hour with reduced prices between 1800-2000.

Service was fantastic! The nachos were great. The Poke bowl was quite large, and the rice was not sticky rice. The cheesecake was yummy. It was a little hard to enjoy it all as where we were seated outside smelled like dog piss.
Vasuki T — Google review
Meat of the day was at the bar. The steak was not at all, at some times not even eatable. Even though, service was ok and the beer as well. Too many bees around at dinner time btw. Background live music was great (congrats to the performer) but maybe a bit too loud
Michele R — Google review
Authentic Irish pub in the heart of Avignon. I had a burger with fries which tasted very nice. You can sit both inside and outside below trees. The service is good and the prices are also fine. At Friday or Saturday evening, it can get a little bit crowded, but with a small group, you can get a table most of the time.
Pascal — Google review
Could not get service while sitting outside, near the entrance. After 3 beers I bought myself, I moved inside to order dinner. Otherwise it's a nice place, busy, lots of pedestrian traffic going past, plenty of beers on offer, great meals.
Robin V — Google review
Probably the best Irish Pub in Southern France! The 'salade pub' was excellent, the Irish salsa to die for. I've seen some reviews complaining about the CB/card limit: that goes for most of Avignon, bring some cash. Especially during the festival it's advisable to have cash on hand. My waiter on Saturday handled his side of the terrace like a boss. Yes, he was curt, but polite and agreeable. Mistakes made: zero!
Johan M — Google review
If you’re not French just don’t do it. Don’t come here and you will be better of. The waiter thought we wouldn’t understand and said something to himself mentioning our incapacity to speak French while he seemed pissed off. In an IRISH PUB mind you. Not a single smile as well. Maybe it’s better in the evening or on weekends. Edit: the manager saw my review came out and asked about our experience. He offered something for free and we decided to switch from a 1 to a 3 star even tho I didn’t accept the offer.

Le Cid Café is a centrally located spot in Avignon's historic old town, offering a large terrace in the main square and a smaller adjoining one. The personnel are friendly and the service is quick. Prices are reasonable for the area. The café has an airy garden and serves coffee, drinks, and delicious croissants. The salmon crepe is generously loaded with salmon and cheese. Despite some slow service due to being busy, it comes recommended.
I had a great meal at the Cid Cafe. Both the salad and the dessert were great. Excellent rose wine and a superb espresso. The staff were efficient and friendly.

This was horrible. And the waitress was very unfriendly and the boss on site claimed not to understand my dilemma. I ordered a simple red wine but when I went to pay, they charged me 8 1/2€ Because I was given a glass of one of their most expensive red wines. VERY POOR and very transparent RIPOFF! After I realized I had been "taken", they refused to reimburse me the three euro difference in price. NEVER GO HERE. 😡😡😡😡 --------------- I see you have responded. Unfortunately, you have responded with a fabricated 'story', which does in any way represent the truth of what occurred. I am sorry for you, sir, and your sad disposition. Have a good day.

In terms of price and atmosphere, we found le cid to be really quite good. The service was also excellent and the food was very good, very simple French fare. For lunch you can’t get better for the prices in the square immediately beside the papal palace.

Lovely cafe right in the center of Avignon. We went in a recommendation via a blog online and were not disappointed. Great attentive staff and nice cocktails. Would visit again!

I tried the salmon crêpe with a cidre. The crêpe was loaded with salmon inside and out. It was a very generous serving with a hearty cheese. I don't recall the type of cheese. It really satisfied my craving 😋. Very good. As with most ancient buildings, finding the bathroom is part of the adventure. It's inside and down some tight, windy stairs.

With its sidewalk tables and cozy interiors, this restaurant is a beloved spot among locals looking to savor elevated burgers, tartares, and fresh salads. The menu features mouthwatering options like the pate foie gras starter served with an assortment of delectable French bread that will tantalize your taste buds.
Amazing food. Amazing service. Amazing taste. Perfect price. Definitely, you have to choose this restaurant as first option in your trip to Avignon.

Excellent food, excellent service...flavors, presentation, supurb..their La Secca d'Entrvaux (dried fillet of beef) special is amazing. The duck and lamb dishes were perfectly cooked and delicious..the mousse au chocolate is a terrific finisher.. I highly recommend this restaurant for dinner when visiting Avignon. Saida was kind and welcoming with his wife and the chef is from a top restaurant from Paris. Not surprising.

We had the today fish special, the scallop carpaccio. It was light, delicate and divine. We also enjoyed the mussels. Good quality French food :)

Our favourite meal of our trip to France. Excellent recommendations and the food was lovingly cooked by the two chefs. Moules in Roquefort sauce was genius. Keep up the great work and you’ll be top of our list for our return. Also excellent value Marianne & Tom from Ireland

Delicious intriguing dishes in a nice setting. Good service, even if there were a couple of small errors like forgetting who ordered what. Did not detract from the enjoyment, though.

Not many places open on Sundays it seems and have space if you do not reserve in advance. Super friendly service and the food was tasty and the portions good house wine was good and overall a very nice experience. Would send a friend without hesitation. Gazpacho salmon tartar dried beef and beef tartar all tasted very good indeed and no chance of room for a desert.

Food was terrible, mixed cheese platter was with cheapest ingredients and with a micro cheese… duck cooked but you want to forget that you were there … no tip, do not recommend

An amazing place to try local wine and have delicious food! If only there was a place like close to where I live, I’ll probably go all the time!

Today we happened upon a charming wine bar in the heart of historic Avignon. We had an outstanding lunch at Au Coeurs des Vins, which began the moment owner, Fred, greeted us at the door. We started off with a glass of wine from today’s tasting menu. I had a lovely 2022 Chateau Famaey Le Chemin des Ans (Chardonnay, viognier, and Sauvignon Blanc.) My husband really enjoyed his Chateau Ermite Auzan 2021 (GSM). We really appreciated the generous pours btw! The kitchen is small, as is the menu but the food is amazing! Fred’s son, Chef William really knows how to cook. Everything is made in house with fresh high quality ingredients. My husband had an outstanding lunch of “risotto” made of wild spelt from Mont Ventroux (Switzerland) and Morteau smoked sausage (Swiss) #umamibomb I had house made Gravlax of Norwegian salmon with Citron crème and whole grain toast. Our meals paired perfectly with our wines and the portions were generous. We also had Chef Williams Panna cotta with fresh strawberry coulis - perfect! The fact that this is our last meal after 2 weeks in France made this experience unforgettable. Fred loves what he does and the customers feel it. Thank you so much Fred and William. We cannot wait to return.

If you only have time for one meal in Avignon this place will not disapoint. The cozy fabulous decor drew us in, the friendly cheerful staff kept us there. The wine suggestions were amazing and the food was superb. We've been back twice and have another reservation to look forward to. Reason enough to return to Avignon.

I would have to say this meal has been one of my favorite meals of all time. I have been to lots of places but nothing compares to this. Do yourself a favor and just visit and taste this incredible array of flavor and amazing company.

A true gem in the heart of Avignon. The selection of wine was excellent and the food has been exceptional. We had the beef tartare and desserts and didn't regret our choice. The service was perfect too - very friendly and attentive at all times. We definitely recommend this place!

We just wanted a night of trying all kinds of local wines by the glass with some good food and oh boy this place definitely delivered! Great selections of wines by the glass and they even have “wines of the moment” on the board. Fantastic snacks - we initially had the croque monsieurs which were delicious and ordered more food to last the evening and went for the Brie with truffle and burrata with truffle. Amazing!

Had the most wonderful evening, served by a lovely waiter with perfect wine recommendations for the stunning food we had, paired with a relaxing and friendly atmosphere!

The wine store Le Vin Devant Soi features a wide variety of wines to choose from, with knowledgeable staff to help you find the perfect bottle. Whether you're looking for a rare vintage or something more affordable, this store has got you covered.
I came here to buy some Chartreuse and the shop owner was so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Such a lovely wine and spirit shop with lots of unique variety available. Next door they have a wine tasting bar. If you are in Avignon, I highly recommend stopping by.

Four of us (from Oregon) popped in there to enjoy a tasting of local wines. The service was outstanding; they were very patient and accommodating, speaking English for us. The wine selection was fabulous, with the self-service machine adding a fun element to the experience. I felt I got a good sense of some of the wines in the region.
Tamiko M — Google review
We did an informal wine tasting here (no booking just walked in) on a Monday lunchime in September. It was very enjoyable. You get a card which you can insert into the machine and try different glasses of wine. The prices are laid out and based on the portion of the bottle you drink. A staff member explained the wines we were trying and the different regions. They had maps and books to assist with explanations. The owner is very knowledgable and lovely. We tried about 15 wines and whilst they varied in price they were all well selected and delicious. They have outdoor seating as well. Highly recommend!

Amazing place to try various wines from the Cotes du Rhone! The owners are very knowledgeable and fun to learn from. The room is also well air-conditioned. If you are looking to escape the heat of Avignon during a summer afternoon, I highly recommend you step inside here!

Hidden gem inside bustling city. Quite a lot of wines you can try. Glad to experience the north and southern Rhone region, especially I didn’t have enough time to travel around too many vineyards. They also have a giant map that helps you learn where are the wines you drink are from. The great thing is that you pay what you drink in the card. It has €30 or so inside but if you drink only one glass, you lag for one glass. Other places are prepaid amount and need to pay full even if you don’t use them all. Wish there were more northern rhone regions of reds to try.

This store has the most exclusive Japanese whisky in avignon. Mars and Chichibu seem to be their go-to outside of the regular Nikka and Suntory whiskys. I bought a whisky I have been looking for the past 2 years. Great service as well!

This is a place you must visit to get a great appreciation of the wines in this region. The lady in the shop was extremely nice and knowledgeable of the wines and this regions production. Definitely a place to visit in Avignon 🇫🇷🥂🍷🤗😘🤗

We visited on two occasions in our short visit to Avignon to have informal tastings of some of the wines from the Rhone valley's renowned appellations. Staff was very hospitable and responsive to our curiosities and requests.

Nestled behind an unassuming iron door on Rue Mignard lies "Le Délirium," a hidden gem in Avignon that promises an extraordinary experience. This unique venue, crafted by two brothers, blends the vibrant energy of a gypsy cabaret with the charm of a pop-up bar. Each night at Le Délirium is distinct, ensuring that no two evenings are ever alike.

(Translated by Google) I love this place, it’s unique and amazing! I always spend unforgettable evenings there. Best place to dance during the festival in my opinion. My only regret is that they don't take credit cards. Remember to take liquid, but I recommend!
