Imperial Museum is located in the grand 1845 palace of Brazil's first emperor and offers a glimpse into the country's history. The museum was once the summer residence of the Brazilian royal family during the 19th century and was founded by Emperor Dom Pedro II. Visitors can explore this historic site through guided tours, learning about its significance as well as the city of Petropolis, which was established by Dom Pedro II in 1843.
Looooooved it! I felt like the royal family still lived there! Pro: - flows really well - history and layout was perfect - clean and well maintained - free (when I went) - great gardens Con: - average gift shop - had to use slippers on your shoes and floor was super waxed (be careful you can clip) - can't take pictures inside
Brian A — Google review
Access is free on Wednesdays and is a self tour across the palace. It takes about 1hr if you pay attention to the details. Worth visiting in Petrópolis.
Bertha I — Google review
It is a cultural visit to understand how was the daily basics of the emperor and he's wife and way to do so.
Carlos L — Google review
If you were a bad student as me, this is the opportunity to know the history of Brazil. We have just 63 years of kingdom here in Brazil but until our "freedom" or beginning of the democrat republicans there are very interesting issues inside the museum.
D B — Google review
Beautiful palace. Mostly everything written in portuguese You can pay CASH ONLY! The slippers that they give you to put on your shoes are very dangerous and disgusting dirty. Could search for another option for visitors! No photos allowed.
Cristiana F — Google review
Great palace. Free entrance when we went. We had to wear covers for our shoes. Great collection.
Patrick F — Google review
You're required to wear slippers over your shoes to protect the floors, but unfortunately they are one size fits some and you'll likely be pseudo-skating around the museum. Also, you're required to check all belongings before entering, including cameras. Photography is not allowed inside, with or without flash. Other than these minor things, worth the trip! Definitely recommend, just be aware what you're in for.
Garrett P — Google review
Quite interesting to see how decadent the royal family was while their countries (Brazil and Portugal) suffered. The museum is free sometimes and cheap the rest of the time. It would get 5 stars if they allowed photos inside and dispensed with the awkward slippers they furnish you to preserve the hardwood floors.

Casa de Santos Dumont, located in Petropolis, is a museum that was once the summer home of Alberto Santos-Dumont, a pioneering aviator and inventor. The house, built in 1918, showcases his small inventions such as an alcohol shower and meticulously planned furniture. Visitors can observe unique features like stairs with half steps shaped like rackets and low doorways tailored to Santos Dumont's 1.52-meter height.
Tiny place. Learn about Dumont, recommended if you like related topics.

Didn't know this story, but it was the highlight of the whole "Petropolis" tour for me, being that I love aviation.

No pix, no amex. cash, debit or credit only. Great history spot, small (but he was a small guy) great piece of history! Worth the trio!
Brian A — Google review
Nice place, can see why he built a glider to get to the bottom of the mountain. He was a bit later to fly, just after the Wright Brothers.

I went on his birthday and it was very busy, however it was great to learn more about the type of person he was and his lovely house.

Very informative and interesting small museum, one of the best places in Petropolis.

The House of Santos Dumont is a great place to visit. I got surprised when I saw how simple he lived behind the big intelligence he had. The history of this great person brings pride of such human and the benefits he brought to the humandade.
Fabio M — Google review
Beautiful site with a rich history and gorgeous scale replicas of Santos' creations, and the original house designed by Santos Dumont himself. The entrance fee is decent, and they offer a video (with English subtitles) that tells the true story of Mr. Dumont. This is a must-visit site for fans of aviation history. Keep in mind the stairs are steep (which is part of the original history of the house), but there is an elevator available for people who have difficulty.

Surrounded by an architectural ensemble that includes landmarks like the Imperial Museum and the Crystal Palace, this historic center offers visitors a charming glimpse into Brazil's rich cultural heritage.
The pillars..stain glass..statues..seating is awesome. Got some moments of silence and prayers. The cathedral stands evident of various influence in the region.. Excellent visit

What a fabulous structure, amazing how the first two meters of the structure is cut stone while the remainder is built with concrete to represent the people. It is in an idealistic location overlooking the river, and is very well maintained. One thing to be aware of is shorts are not the preferred clothing item. An ideal location for reflection and some quiet time.

Cathedral in Petropolis. After their exile to and death in Europe, the remains of the last Brazilian emperor Pedro II and his wife were laid to rest here in marble tombs. The Petropolis Wax Museum is a relatively new addition to the city, showcasing hyper-realistic wax replicas of both Brazilian and international celebrities. Visitors can expect to see famous figures such as Batman, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Mr. Bean, Nelson Mandela, and Superman alongside important Brazilian icons and leaders. The museum offers a range of characters from historical and political figures to pop-culture icons. Some of the displays even feature scenarios designed around the figures to reflect their contextual significance.
It is a good attraction to visit. Short with lo variety but with great quality. Midrange pricing but lovely.
Carlos L — Google review
This wax museum was ok but very small and with terrible lighting for photos. The whole experience could be better, although the actual wax celebrities are very realistic, almost scarily so! It’s pretty expensive for what it is, although the student discount is good.
Ben J — Google review
We really enjoyed the museum. Small and quaint but greatly executed
Leo C — Google review
Nice wax figures but short exhibition
Éder M — Google review
Very small wax museum, Maybe 30-40 sculptures total, some look almost nothing like who they are trying to portray.

Restaurant
Churrascaria Majórica is a renowned Brazilian barbecue house located on Rua do Imperador, offering an exceptional dining experience for those seeking unparalleled quality. With almost 60 years of tradition in preparing authentic gaucho barbecue and famous potato souffle, this restaurant maintains its historic interior design from 1961. The generous portions of tender and flavorful meats served à la carte are complemented by delectable desserts.
Excellent service, has an upscale feel at a great price. Food is very good with a large selection. One of the top restaurants in area.

Very delicious picanha, it’s prepared on a grill right that’s within sight in the restaurant. I also liked the plum pudim. The fries were so so, and I was expecting a more interesting salad. Overall, I’d recommend, it was the best food experience I’ve had in Petropolis.
Omar — Google review
Amazing steak! Great service! You will have the good "old" ambience were gentlemens serve you in the best possible way. You have to try a picanha, rib-eye or fillet mignon!
Eric P — Google review
This is my favourite restaurant in Petrópolis. And every time I go to Petrópolis I have to have lunch there. The food is excellent, and they keep they same quality over the years.
Marcia M — Google review
We have ordered a 600 gram picanha and it was a delight! Without a doubt one of the best I ever ate in my life! Staff is very friendly and humble. This place is pure class. However, it is a bit on the expensive side and the entrance of the virtue is not very inviting. So because of this we were sitting in an empty restaurant on a Sunday evening at dinner time (just 2 other tables). If there were some more people there it would add to the ambiance and I would rate 5 stars! Please, try it, the food will amaze you. Pro-tip: ask for the pimenta, their home made pimenta is the spiciest I've ever got served!
Jordy R — Google review
In my opinion super old school place But in kind of tourist spot Might be interesting
Olga S — Google review
I visited Brazil in the fall of 2016, and I had an amazing time exploring the country. I ate at this restaurant with family and friends, and we all had the infamous puffy potatoes and meats. I had the steak, and I can say that it was the best steak I've ever had in my life. Phenomenal place!
Winston C — Google review
The Steak was unfortunately not soft (3 of 4 ordered picanha pieces). We had two returned and it took around 3-4minutes to exchange. The new ones were a bit softer but far from what I expect in this price range (2x 600g for 4 persons for 360 reais). We were disappointed. home cooked steak has “unfortunately” a better softness.

While some find it somewhat pricey, many agree that the quality of the food justifies the cost.
It was like a time capsule, everything looks the same from when I was little and it is so well kept. Amazing food and I might be bias because of all of the happy childhood memories, but it’s definitely a place worth stopping by to eat for anyone!

(Translated by Google) The space needs renovation, but the show "Um Sarau Imperial" was the real star of the place. Get ready to travel and be enchanted by a gathering of beautiful ladies, music and lots of fun. Based on letters and reports from the time, five historical figures take to the stage to bring the reality of the time and, with a lot of good humor, compare it to the ways and manners of today. The dynamics are fantastic. In addition to exposing and telling facts from the time they live in, sharing their opinions, mannerisms and thoughts, the actresses joke and talk to the audience, asking questions and arguing about facts, tastes and clothing, all improvised and without breaking character, making it even more interesting and making each show unique. At the end there is a brief debate where we can bring up any question and, even the actresses, present some arguments regarding the customs and beliefs of the time. Everyone should watch the show. And fun is guaranteed!!! (Original) O espaço necessita de uma reforma, mas o espetáculo "Um Sarau Imperial", foi a verdadeira estrela do lugar. Alongside other notable buildings like the Encantada (Santos Dumont's summer house), the Palacio Amarelo (City Council), and the Palacio Rio Negro, this charming area also features unique structures such as the castle-like residence of self-proclaimed Duke de Belfort.
Palácio de Cristal is a very impressive structure in an ideal setting. The grounds are immaculate and very well maintained. An ideal location for taking romantic photos as it's like something from a fairytale. Definitely worth a visit but not a lot to see.

Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos - PARNASO - Sede Petrópolis is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts, located in the foothills 20km northeast of Petropolis. It offers a range of trails suitable for various fitness levels, including an easy path along the Rio do Bonfim that leads to natural swimming holes like Poco Paraiso and Poco das Bromelias.
Very nice park. Everything is indicated. Waterfall is marvellous.
Remy P — Google review
What an amazing park. The national park of Serra dos Órgãos is a very pretty park with several hiking trails. The trails are mostly one way up and the same way down, branching from one main trial. There are several pretty water falls. The nature and views are beautiful. At the beginning is a manned information point with toilets, water point and outdoor shower. You can’t park a car in the national park: you have to park your car in one of the private car parkings nearby.
Siegfried B — Google review
Entered from the bonfim side. Easy access road, parking in field a hundred metres or so before the entrance. Friendly helpful staff. Map, toilet, shower, water fountain at entrance. Free entry but you MUST have an ID or you won't get in. Basically one main trail up with side trails to waterfalls with swimming holes. We only went to lower waterfalls as we arrived after lunch, a couple of hours to go up and back down. There is a larger waterfall a couple of Kms higher up. Also, access here to long hard trail over the top but you need permission to do that one and high level fitness I imagine. I only gave it 4 stars because the trail from here, although pleasant with nice stretch through bamboo,, does not give access to jaw dropping scenery. From the other side, with views of the mountains and the finger of God would be a five.

(Translated by Google) Very spacious, but I find it expensive to use the bathroom. The other stores are also expensive.. there could be a bus service for free or at a popular price, to tourist attractions, so gnt wouldn't have to spend so much on Uber or Taxis.

(Translated by Google) Reasonably comfortable, few bus options. Many stores closed but this could be an effect of the pandemic. If there was public Wi-Fi, it would be a little better. (Original) Razoavelmente confortável, poucas opções d ônibus. Muitas lojas fechadas mas pode ser efeito da pandemia. Se tivesse um wi-fi público, seria um pouco melhor.

(Translated by Google) I've never used the service, because whenever I arrive and leave the Imperial city the CIT is closed, but I believe they provide a good service to tourists. Ideally, tourist services throughout Brazil would always be well provided. (Original) Nunca usei o serviço, pois sempre que chego e saio da cidade Imperial o CIT está fechado, mas creio que prestem um bom serviço aos turistas. O ideal é que serviço ao turista em todo o Brasil fosse sempre bem prestado.
