The House of Santos Dumont is a great place to visit. I got surprised when I saw how simple he lived behind the big intelligence he had. The history of this great person brings pride of such human and the benefits he brought to the humandade.

The entrance fee is decent, and they offer a video (with English subtitles) that tells the true story of Mr. Dumont. This is a must-visit site for fans of aviation history. Keep in mind the stairs are steep (which is part of the original history of the house), but there is an elevator available for people who have difficulty.

What a fabulous structure, amazing how the first two meters of the structure is cut stone while the remainder is built with concrete to represent the people. It is in an idealistic location overlooking the river, and is very well maintained. One thing to be aware of is shorts are not the preferred clothing item. As a new comer to Petropolis, I discovered this restaurant by searching in Google for the top Italian restaurant in the area. It meets and exceeds all the previous reviews. It’s a great place for a nice quite dinner or a business dinner. The employees are amazingly attentive and courteous. This became my choice of best Italian restaurant in Petropolis really fast. Food is made by professionals and the service is outstanding. I had Jonatas as my waiter and he was superb. The ambiance is also one of a kind. Imagine being in a mansion or a beautiful house with a garden with many room and a balcony/patio, all facing the gardens. I can come here every day just to brighten my mood. Beautifully landscaped as far as the eye can see. Outdoor pool area very relaxing and an indoor hot tub/spa also top notch. A beautiful setting for a wedding or whatever special occasion. Very very romantic place. The whole experience there was nothing shy of amazing. They are building some “apartments” (additional rentals) on the property so there can be some construction noise at times. That would be my only “complaint” but not enough to keep me away. Also good choice of wine/spirits and you can book their wine cellar for a special dinner. We did and it didn’t disappoint!
