Trattoria Bère Vecchie is a renowned restaurant in Cisternino, offering a variety of local dishes with a focus on barbecued meat. The restaurant is known for its quick and friendly service, as well as its incredible meat dishes, particularly the bombetta. It also caters to vegetarian and gluten-free diners and prides itself on using organic ingredients.
On a rainy day - I had come to the the bombette and was not disappointed. By going to the butcher entrance I could pick between so many options and they cooked them there for me to to take away. I asked for their recommendations and was NOT disappointed.
Bridget — Google review
We ordered bombettes and sausages with a huge bowl of fries. We have never had these meat dishes before so had nothing to compare them with, but they were tasty and we enjoyed the meal, that was washed down with a litre of local red wine. We walked away full. Staff were nice, we were given a waitress that speaks English. The restaurant seemed popular with Italians eating there too, but maybe that's because not much else was open this time of the year. Overall good experience, total cost €47.
Cindy B — Google review
We recently visited the restaurant located in a sweet, cozy alleyway that had been recommended to us. The ambiance was very welcoming and homey. The waitstaff seemed to have a lot on their plates, likely due to the restaurant's popularity. For starters, we had Oriechette with a meat roulade which was very tasty. The main courses were mixed. We ordered Salsiccia, lamb from the oven and roasted vegetables. Unfortunately, the lamb was a major letdown: the pieces were crudely cut, very fatty, included many bones and sinews, and had little actual meat. It was tasteless and truly inedible. It was disappointing to be served such a dish – we've had better meals elsewhere for similar prices. The restaurant has potential given its location and atmosphere, but the quality of the food, at least regarding our main course, was disappointing. The starter was enjoyable. We wouldn't necessarily recommend the place based on our negative experience with the main dish. Value for money wasn't there for us.
Sandra P — Google review
--Beware of the meat quality-- We dined at this restaurant and, while the atmosphere was pleasant and the service attentive, the food was a major disappointment. We ordered grilled meat and pork, both of which tasted below average. Unfortunately, a few hours later we experienced severe vomiting that ruined our night and the following day. The only reason this review isn’t 1 star is because of the good service and atmosphere. I would advise avoiding this place.
Saar N — Google review
This restaurant in cisternino, the city of meat, was an okey choice. It is not the typical butcher shop where they cook you the meat you choose but it is just a meat restaurant. The food was very tasty although I am told by locals the “bombette” dish was good but not great. Service was a bit slow but overall I recommend if you did not have time to plan it better.
Giovanni M — Google review
We visited Puglia in late September and we had dinner at Trattoria Bere Vecchie on Mon. 9/30. We got seated in one of the outdoor tables with the cute red white checkered tablecloth. The service was excellent. We ordered a 1/2 liter carafe of red wine and the bombette balls (pork) and the salchicha mista along with roasted veggies and baked potatoes. Everything was very tasty. Would definitely come back again. The place was packed with tourists and locals alike. Our bill was around 60 euros.

Good food and friendly service. But absolutely loved the atmosphere / vibe. Got a table for 2 without reservation at 8pm even though looked full. The town comes alive at night.
Henry S — Google review
The meat and specifically the “bombette” are to die for here - tender, succulent, fresh. Excellent selection of meats and sides. Good wine list. Indoor and outdoor seating. Arrive before 8pm in summer to get a table or there will be a wait.

Nestled in the heart of Cisternino, a charming gem in the Valle d'Itria, Osteria Bell'Italia invites you to indulge in a delightful culinary experience. This historic trattoria has transformed into an exceptional restaurant that beautifully marries simplicity with elegance. Guests can savor grilled seafood specialties and innovative sushi creations while dining either indoors or outside along a picturesque flower-lined alleyway.
Excellent food and service. We had the catch of the day (spigola), pretty expensive ($56), with a mixed salad and the torta di mele and mousse al pistacchio for dessert. The fish took a good 20 minutes or more to get ready, and they told us so, but it was worth the wait. Would come back and order something less expensive, they had very good cheaper options in the menu.

Love the food, the friendly service and good vibes. They're accommodating when we turned up although they weren't open. Let us sit at a table whilst waiting for them to open. The food, especially the seared tuna with wasabi, was delicious. Highly recommend that.
Julian D — Google review
Such a fabulous little spot! The service was spot on – really friendly and attentive without being too much. The food was honestly delicious, every dish we tried was full of flavour and so well done. We left already talking about when we can come back. Highly recommend!
Sophie B — Google review
I had a bad experience. After an inordinately long wait, I got a dish I didn't order and my wife got hers half cold. After arguing what I am or I didn't order, they prepared the right dish. Both dishes, which we ordered because they are local specialties (which I asked when ordering), were not particularly tasty. As well as not the tomato and oil sauce, which we did not order, but they charged it €2x8. The beer was also not without mistakes - the waitress offers Peroni, I confirm, she brings local beer - also for an exorbitant price. In short, the whole experience raised my pressure, they still lack a lot to reach the excessively high ratings that the place has. Overrated!

An authentic and unforgettable experience! We visited Osteria Bell’Italia during our stay in Puglia, and it was without a doubt one of the best dinners of our trip. The restaurant is cozy, thoughtfully decorated, and has a warm, authentic atmosphere. The service was attentive, kind, and always with a smile, even though the place was full. We really appreciated how helpful the staff was in recommending both the daily specials and the perfect wine pairing. And the food? Simply delicious! The flavors were genuine, the ingredients incredibly fresh, and every dish was prepared with care and passion. The eggplant parmigiana and the bombette in particular were unforgettable. A true osteria, where you can feel the tradition and love for the region in every detail. We’ll definitely be back!
Rita R — Google review
Lovely looking place and great atmosphere. Unfortunately we can't rate the food because, after waiting 30 minutes with only a bottle of water slapped on the table by a waitress who didn't even slow from her rush past us, we decided it wasn't worth the extra 30 minutes of our time that was probably required before they lowered themselves to take our order. A restaurant lives on its service as much as its food. This service is some of the worst I have experienced over decades all over the world. And it isn't exactly the cheapest restaurant in Cisternino. No exaggeration.
Paul — Google review
Unfortunately, our experience here was disappointing. Service was quite slow, and it seemed like local guests were being served before tourists. Our drinks were forgotten, and the food took a very long time to arrive. The pasta with prawns was not that good, definitely not worth the high price. Overall, the meal didn’t sit well with me afterward, and the whole experience felt way overpriced for what we got. Wouldn’t go back.
Keanu V — Google review
We enjoyed our meal here! Although we ordered calamari and we wanted lemon to squeeze on it, and they wanted to charge us for it. They did. It should come with lemon. We had to get up twice to get service.

Le Tre Lanterne is a unique dining experience in Cisternino, offering a special phenomenon where you can choose your meat at the butcher's shop next door and have it prepared for you in the restaurant. It was 7 of us and they accommodated us immediately! Our server was great, wine was lovely and the food was phenomenal! My family is very hard to please when it comes to food but this place did not disappoint! 🤩

Stopped by on a Tuesday evening for dinner with a small dog and no reservation. We were happy to be welcomed and seated immediately at this small restaurant. Overall, we were quite pleased with dinner here - food was reasonably priced and served by friendly English speaking staff. Insalata mista was very good and fresh. Verdure grigliata (grilled vegetables - eggplant, zucchini, red peppers) was also very tasty and not overcooked. Laganari alla “cistranese” (Bucatini-like pasta with meat in a tomato sauce) was very good, especially because the pasta was perfectly cooked al dente. Arrosto misto (mixed grill of meat including sausage, bacon, beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and chicken livers) was tasty but overcooked and dry.
S B — Google review
We waited 40 minutes for our food. The presentation was awful: lamb ribs were thrown on the plate carelessly with a weird piece of meat next to them, and instead of ribs, we got something like a pork knuckle. One of our dishes — the osso buco — was never brought at all, they simply forgot. By the time we reminded them, everyone else had already finished eating. Sloppy plating (a few salad leaves and chunks of meat thrown on top) and unjustified prices. We expected way more for what we paid. Not recommended.
Veronika S — Google review
The worst meat I’ve ever had in a restaurant - and I’ve been to many. The quality is far from matching the price. The presentation was unattractive, and the taste was just as disappointing, though nothing beforehand suggested it would be this bad. Service was poor as well, and part of our order never arrived - perhaps for the better. Definitely not recommended.
Yuri S — Google review
It is unfortunate that a nice place in such a beautiful town serves terrible food. We were the only people in the restaurant and the pressure from the waiter for us to order was intense. We ordered the T-bone steak which costs €80 (not cheap) and the taste was horrible, undercooked, tasteless and it was obvious that it wasn’t a fresh cut. The lasagna looked as it was microwaved also. All in all a sad bad experience.
Studia E — Google review
We came here out of desperation as other places were closed and this place was busy so we assumed that it’s good. One of the worst places we experienced in Puglia. The food is tasteless and bland. Staff work incredibly hard but can’t keep up. Avoid.
Ahmad N — Google review
The worst T-bone I've had. Really tough, hard to even cut it with a steak knife. Sent it back because it was raw (and I mean raw, we usually have steaks mid/rare). If I was guessing the meat cut was poor quality and the grill not hot enough (no crust from a hot fire) because when it came back the second time, it was well done on one part and then raw still on the other, it hadn't been rested and with the extra cooking it was not edible, so we left most of it. Oh and it took forever for the food to come and the service was terrible.
Wayne L — Google review
Delicious lunch in square. Meat was nicely cooked and very tasty. Waiters were very friendly. Starter platters were huge so glad we just had main courses. Red beer excellent.

We had an excellent dinner in a beautiful garden setting — peaceful, charming, and full of atmosphere. Every dish we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and thoughtfully presented. What really stood out, beyond the food and ambiance, was the wine recommendation. We shared what kind of wines we usually enjoy, and the suggestion matched our taste perfectly. A truly memorable experience — highly recommended.

Everything about this restaurant is wonderful! The space is gorgeous, the food is flavourful and the staff strike the perfect balance of professional yet warm. They’re attentive when you need them, but not overbearing. Really enjoyed just sitting here having a slow long lunch.

We got insanely lucky to eat at Il Cortiletto, especially without a reservation!! Everything was insanely awesome (I would not order the chicken though), from the starter taste to the last sip of primitivo wine. - mezze maniche with cauliflower & anchovies - ricotta gnocchi with crusco pepper breadcrumbs, bitter turnip greenss, & fried sweet olives - orrechiette with house meatballs, brasciole, and sauce (not pictured, i ate it too fast) -marinated Capocollo CBT (sous vide) with grape tomatoes, crispy red onion, and roasted cornaletti pepper cream [FREAKING INSANE!!! 15/10]

Visited for lunch on a hot summer’s day. The food was delicious. Loved the zucchini flan / soufflé dish, the orecchiette with tomato and meat and enjoyed the ribeye. Really nice house dry white and rose wine served along side. Highly recommended.

Beautiful little restaurant. We enjoyed our date night but ambiance could use some work- dimmer lights, way more candles and music. Food was some of the best we had in Puglia. The red pepper pasta and lamb chops were just delicious.

The Rosticceria "Antico Borgo" di Menga Piero is a classic Italian butcher shop and trattoria, with a simple but delicious menu. The food is fresh, simple and amazing.
We just returned from a much anticipated visit to this fantastic restaurant, and was it ever a home run! We had skilled and charming servers who did a great job meeting our language barriers and patiently explained the menu. The main dining room was full of local families and we got a great table in the gorgeous second dining area with a few other families. We enjoyed the mixed veggie platter, donkey salumi (it's incredible) a one-pound donkey costata steak (bone in, boneless also available) and a boneless veal steak (pick your size, chop-style also available). We chose med-rare and medium respectively. This is top quality meat and cooked absolutely perfectly. Super tender, great char, not overdone. Veggies (marinated red onion, artichoke, and eggplant) were unique and fantastic. The charming and helpful staff were all smiles and efficiency. We came to Italy to enjoy local culture and interesting, premium food, and they nailed it in spades. We may adjust our Italy adventure just to come here again and try the rest of their offerings. If you're a carnivore from anywhere in the world, this is as good as it gets. Bravo and lifelong appreciation to the owners and staff for an unforgettable experience. See pics for details

Rosticceria "Fornello" Antico Borgo, Cisternino: A Must-Visit for Meat Lovers. If you're looking for an authentic apulian dining experience, look no further than Fornello Antico Borgo in Cisternino. This rustic restaurant serves up some of the best grilled meats in the region, including bombette (stuffed pork rolls), torcinelli (lamb intestines), and braciole in pignata (meat rolls cooked in a clay pot). We started our meal with a selection of antipasti, which included grilled vegetables, and cured meats. Everything was delicious, but the bombette were the real stars of the show. These savory rolls are stuffed with a variety of fillings, such as cheese, bread crumbs, and herbs. They are then grilled to perfection and served with a side of lemon (if you lke). We tried the torcinelli and the braciole in pignata. The torcinelli were cooked to perfection, with a slightly crispy exterior and a tender, flavorful interior. The braciole in pignata were slow-cooked in a rich tomato sauce, which infused the meat with incredible flavor. We ended our meal with an amazing Limoncello. Everything was delicious, and the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Overall, Fornello Antico Borgo is a must-visit for any meat lover visiting Cisternino. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic apulian dining experience. Here are some other things to note about Fornello Antico Borgo: The restaurant is located in the historic center of Cisternino, so it's easy to walk to from many of the town's hotels and shops. The restaurant is open for dinner only, and it's always busy, so reservations are recommended. The restaurant has a small but well-chosen wine list, with a focus on local apulian wines. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. If you're looking for a delicious and authentic apulian dining experience, Fornello Antico Borgo is the perfect place for you. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Cisternino.

Typical “non nonsense”-butcher-restaurant of Cisternino and surroundings where you choose your meat at the counter first which will then be grilled and taken to your table. Not for vegetarians but very good meat, good variety of bombette. Get your desert elsewhere - you’ll need a walk anyway after having inescapably eaten too much meat. You will order too much food at the counter, but there is always the option of the doggy bag. I had enough for two more days of lunch last time I ate here.

Extremely simple and delicious cuisine... Amazing!
Alex M — Google review
They have good food (heavy) but slightly touristic. They adopt the “forno” concept that is very popular in Puglia, you choose you meat, like in the butcher, and they cook it for you. When the food arrived was freshly cooked, I liked it a lot... but just said that was a lot and couldn’t eat everything. The antipasto of the house (were few vegetables in vinegar) was good but nothing that blows the mind. They have good local beers and wine! Also, the plates and utensils are locally produced and are beautiful.

A very romantic and refined place. Loved how rustic yet not crowded the place was decorated, with old stone walls and beautiful old photos hanging on it. The different rooms makes it look like it was an old castle. So enjoy their wine and I loved their Angus beef. The rabbit looked tasty as well and their cheese and ham selection is highly recommended. Try not to overeat the starter bread!

Good food and friendly staff , The only downside is a man wandering around the grounds and entrance asking for money when you leave, even though parking is free in the surrounding area (the car was there much earlier than the man arrived). I normally give money, but we found the man very pushy and annoying when we gave a cat some food ( at the parking place), which startled the cat and made it disappear. I'm not used to this, in the beautiful valley. Please don't let this become the norm in the valley; tourists don't want these illegal practices. Otherwise, the restaurant was good! After refusing to pay, the man gave the car an intimidating look. Luckily, I'm not afraid of gnomes ;-) . See you again next year whitout the man please. Located in a delightful corner of the town, Ristorante Mezzofanti is a charming patio eatery that offers delectable Pugliese cuisine and delivers exceptional customer service. To begin, patrons can indulge in flavorsome ravioli and orecchiette while enjoying a reasonably-priced bottle of red Primitivo that received high praise. For the main course, options include mouthwatering involtini and bombette.
Beautiful restaurant with tasty food. Starter with fava beans puree and grilled octopus is delicious. And risotto with radicchio and gorgonzola cheese is very good too.

We had a mixed experience at this restaurant. The tuna tartare starter was nicely seasoned, though it was hard to tell it was tuna—it tasted pleasant but a bit unrecognisable. The main pasta dishes, however, were absolutely fantastic—full of flavour and beautifully cooked. The atmosphere was quieter than other nearby restaurants, which may appeal to some, but we personally found it lacked a vibe. One thing that really needs attention is the online menu—it lists lower prices than what we were charged. This should be updated to reflect the current prices, as it feels misleading. Unfortunately, we decided not to stay for dessert after the owner (I believe) tried to jokingly teach my husband how to eat pasta with just a fork. While perhaps meant in good humour, it felt a little patronising and made him uncomfortable as others were watching. He was perfectly happy eating in his own way. In short: amazing pasta, but the experience left us feeling a little flat overall.

Food was cold and way below average. Had stomach ache after eating the tuna. Plates were served separately even though it was very quite. Atmosphere could be better with dimmed light.

In a charming corner of the town, you will find a patio restaurant that serves delicious Pugliese cuisine and provides excellent service. We had ravioli and orecchiette to start and ordered a bottle of red Primitivo, which was lovely and very reasonably priced. Next, we ate involtini and bombette for our main course. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. This restaurant has it all.
Gennieve I — Google review
We stumbled upon this place in a little corner, and the very friendly waiter immediately attended to us. For antipasti we shared a massive board of delicious cheeses and salumi - so much food! For secondi, the menu has more seafood rather than the meat and cucina povera food common in the area. I had the seared salmon with ginger, sweet red onions, baked potatos - perfectly cooked and very tasty. One friend had BBQ octopus on fava bean purée - also great. Another friend had beef fillet with arugula and tomatoes but made the mistake of ordering it rare. As some parts of the meat were a bit fatty it would have been better to cook a bit more, but the non fatty pieces were, he said, delicious. Throughout our waiter was warm and attentive and charming. Really great meal!

You know a place is good when people are queuing out the door and waiting an age to come in. Thankfully we arrived at a point where there was a free table so we're seated right away. Lovely cheeses, great pizza. I now want to go back to try the homemade desserts!

Superb pizza. Classic, was one of the best pizza I have ever had. Loved everything about it.

First things first: this is extremely popular place! Make a reservation, be early at the spot or be ready to wait a vacant table. We were told this is one of the best, if not THE best pizzeria in the are. It was true. The staff were friendly and professional even in the busiest moments of the evening. The pizza itself was best we've had on this trip and definitely in the top five ever in Italy. Or anywhere else for that matter. Be brave and try any of the not so traditional choices from the menu. You will be rewarded with a treat! And desserts are worth a try. We went for traditional tiramisu and pistachio tiramisu and they were just great!

Wine bar
Restaurant
Il Cucco is a charming cantineria located near the centro storico and Porta Piccola. It offers delicious food, including succulent cuttlefish skewers with a light breadcrumb and parmesan crust. The wine list is extensive, featuring a comprehensive selection of Puglian wines. Additionally, it functions as both a wine bar and a restaurant, allowing patrons to select their preferred wine from the adjacent enoteca to enjoy with their meal or take home.
Il Cucco is located at the edge of the small but pretty centre of Cisternino, it underwent a big renovation a few years ago and went from a small place to a big restaurant with a nice terrace in between wine leaves and fig trees. It’s also a winery and wine shop with more than 400 wine to chose from. Food follows the trend of elevating local cuisine in a form that is halfway between a fine dining experience and the one of a trattoria. Price is in the higher range.

Romantic wine bar with indoor seating and beautiful outdoor terrace. There are plenty of gluten-free options and the server was great in helping us navigate the menu. The dishes were delicious and prepared with quality ingredients. Portion is good for sharing.

Excellent meals, service and environment. It was quiet for a mid-week night and we were skilfully relocated from the garden after it started to rain. Good options and high quality dining in this wonderful town!
Steve S — Google review
We happened to be aimlessly walking the wonderful streets of Cisternino and came upon Il Cucco looking for a wine store and wow, did we find one. This is a fantastic cellar with a broad selection of great wines. Seeing that they were a restaurant we asked if they could accommodate two vegans, one of whom is a coeliac! Instead of the usual panic (ha ha) we were met with a relaxed smile and “of course” and to our table on the terrace we were taken. The setting here is something else. A combination of the old and the new with inside the dining room with original vaulted roof to a beautiful outside terrace surrounded by fruit trees. Our waiter brought the menu, heard our dietaries and went to speak to the kitchen and came back with their suggestions for two courses as well as accompanying wines. And then it started to rain! In Puglia! In Summer! No worries, we were taken to an inside table under the vaulted roof with one wall displaying a marvellous collection of wines. And by now other diners had arrived - a mix of families and couples and groups of friends. The good vibes in the room were understandable given the level of service, which is was professional and at the same time, relaxed. Needless to say the food was exceptional. Starting with a “Caponata Stack” - grilled vegetables on a GF “wheat” with intense flavours offset by the crunch and bite of the grain. Followed by a Risotto of cream pea. Wow! We were drinking red - a primitiva led blend by the glass. We finished with a cheesecake and moscato. A brilliant night all round with special thanks to our waiter who made everything possible.

What a great place to have dinner! Food is so fresh and tasty, wine is really good and the service is perfect. Plus, they offer gluten-free options for pasta! A must do if you’re in Cisternino.
Elisa D — Google review
The pasta was delicious. The tartar from the 1st dish was just raw meat, not even salted.. Don't know, maybe that's how it should be done but I didn't like it. The mains were also really good. I asked for recommendation for wine and the waiter got exactly what I wanted! So delicious. They also have a wine shop. Really nice and Manny options.

The menu features an array of unique options like pumpkin and pecorino, salsiccia and artichoke, alongside beloved classics such as tuna and diavola pizzas. This eatery is perfect for those looking for a lighter alternative to pizza, especially during lunch hours.

We went here on a whim and were so glad we did. The food was exceptional. The pizza is wonderful Focaccia style. All of the food we had was delicious. The staff were also fantastic and welcoming, the chef even came out to talk to us after our meal! I would recommend this place and would return here if we are ever back in the area.
Jane U — Google review
We did love this place, as the food is quite modern in the traditional Italy. Food was really good, service was nice. No booking possible, so go there, ask a table and wait with a glass on the charming small public place. Count on 30euros per person for a full meal with wine. I recommend.
Gerald S — Google review
We were initially seated outside but we're suddenly and rudely told that we had to move inside. Pasta was average - not much flavour and incredibly salty. Pinsa was similar - the pancetta on it was undercooked and basically pure fat so very chewy. Wouldn't recommend.
Kitfitton — Google review
The restaurant is situated in the old part of Cisternino, but easy to find. On first appearances it looks a bit tacky with paper place mats on the tables, but it’s part of the experience. The owners speak English. We had booked a table which was just as well as it was very busy (Saturday evening). We were greeted immediately and shown to our table and before long the chef/owner came to take our order. We had a starter of mixed meets to share, 5 different types, very tasty and a good portion. Main course we had lamb coated with a herb crust and spigola, a local white fish coated in olives and bread crumbs and lightly grilled. Both dishes were excellent and I must say it was one of the nicest fish dishes I’ve had in Puglia. The fish was filleted and there was not one bone left in it. The desert I ordered was not available, but the chef came out of his kitchen to apologise and offer an alternative. There is a decent wine list and draught lager. We tried a rosé and couple of glasses of the house white, both were local and very good. I recommend that you give it a try. This is one of the best restaurants in Cisternino.

Amazing vegetarian restaurant run by two gentle Italian men. The food was fresh and delicious. We had the soba noodles and a fresh juice with ginger. It was so refreshing after many days of pasta and wine. Oh and the banana bread was the best we’ve ever had!

The restaurant is known for its fresh meat selection and provides a cozy atmosphere for guests to enjoy their meals. Whether you're looking to savor traditional Italian cuisine or indulge in local wines, Zio Pietro promises an authentic taste of the region.
So yumm. A few of these types of butcher restaurants around and this one was just what we were after. The front room was set up as a butcher where you choose meat and then fabulous dining area through the kitchen and across the alley. Meat was spectacular and baked potatoes will be remembered. Great service and very reasonably priced

What a great experience. Order your meat from the butcher counter then sit down to order drinks and non-meat dishes. The bombetta and sausages are delicious. We loved it.
Adam N — Google review
If you’re in the area, Zio Pietro is a must-visit. Nestled in the charming alleys of Cisternino, this place blends a rustic atmosphere with outstanding meat that truly makes the trip worthwhile. From the moment you arrive, you step into their macelleria, where you pick your cut of meat right from the counter. That freshness and hands-on selection feel rare and authentic. The meats they serve, especially the bombette, straccetti, and sausages, are cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor and served in generous portions. The ambiance is warm and intimate. Whether you sit inside among rustic décor and character, or find a seat in the cozy alleyways off the main street, the setting adds to the enjoyment of the meal. Yes, you may wait, this place doesn’t take reservations and often draws a crowd. But trust me, the wait is worth it. The staff is friendly and helpful in guiding your choices. If you go, come hungry, bring patience, and be sure to order their specialties. Zio Pietro is not just any steakhouse, it’s an experience that gives you a genuine taste of Puglia, with meat that comforts and satisfies in a setting that feels both homey and special. Highly recommended.

This was a wonderful experience, we didn't really understand the process, you choose your meat first, they then take in and cook in the wood oven, while you walk though to restaurant. Food was great, meat cooked to perfect, crispy, charred but still juicy. We had bombette, sausage and veal strip + potatoes, (baked and covered in olive oil and salt came close to stealing the show) and well as grill eggplant and zucchini. The meal is simple but perfect. The setting is atmospheric. One of my fave dining experiences in Pulgia.

Theo’s was recommended to me by a work colleague and also an accommodation provider in Locorotondo. Quality meat, beautifully cooked. The concept is simple - you pay by the kilo like a butchers but they cook the food for you. I now understand why they don’t take reservations and there is always a queue. Seriously, take the time to go to this understated place but get there early ( opens at 7pm) and enjoy, it is fantastic!! 5 of us ate til we burst with wine and side salad for €100 - incredible value for money!

Amazing food experience in this typical local restaurant. You get to pick the meats you want and they cook them in their traditional ovens. We ate some of the best meats we had in all of our stay in Apulia. Very friendly staff and quaint tables in the charming streets of Cisternino.

I’m not sure what happened with these people who rayed this restaurant under a 4, maybe they were drunk. As a former chef and all about quality of meats and service this restaurant is a 5. We picked the meats we wanted sat down we were approached by the waitress for drinks and appetizers of choice. The pomodoro salad with rocket (arugula) was simple light dressing and flavorful. The meats came out and cooked to perfection. They add no seasonings and honestly it didn’t need any. Absolutely fantastic! Every bite was so flavorful from the liver to the lamb to the bonnet yes and T bone steak. The saisages had just enough flavor of seasoning. We had the sweet sausage and the basil tomato and you could still taste the meat. 5 across the board. Price was very reasonable. We went animal on the meats before I realized I needed to take pictures. But salvaged part way into the meal. 🤷🏻‍♂️ delicious!

This restaurant is the traditional “fornello” that you find in Cesternino. You choose your meat at the entrance, get seated, and order side dishes. Then it’s a festival of meat: beef, pork, lamb, in all kind of cuts, cooked on the grill. A real delight. You end up eating quite a lot, as everything is so tempting. If you pass by and you don’t stop here, you are missing out. All I can say is “Bon appétit”. Don’t worry about prices, they are quite reasonable.

Al Vecchio Fornello is a charming restaurant located in Cisternino, Italy, known for its focus on meat dishes. The restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere and features a terrace along a narrow alleyway. Visitors rave about the quality of the food, particularly the fresh and delicious meat options such as Zio Pietro and bombette. The staff is praised for their superb service, creating an overall enjoyable dining experience.
This was the highlight of my husband’s vacation; it is literally one of the first things he tells people about. We had lunch here and despite knowing next to nothing about the food or how the service works, we were helped to enjoy a satisfying meal. We had a selection of bombette and sides of potatoes and grilled vegetables. I particularly enjoyed the grilled vegetables because I had not eaten many vegetables during my trip. I’d say if I had to have a complaint, one was that the sides came after the meat (maybe that’s how it’s done? No idea!) and another was that the seating was very snug (my back was right up against the diner behind me), but I would place both of those more in “nice to know” category, not a reason not to go.

Nice little restaurant where you get to choose your meat and then they would cook it for you and take it to the table. Reasonable prices for the location. Service was on point, not much variety of meet. All in all a good difference lunch experience with the family

Wonderful meal in a traditional Fornello in Cisternino. Food and wine were excellent and the experience of choosing your meat from the 'butchers counter' was quite unique. We were fortunate to get there early as the place filled up very quickly and people were queueing waiting for a table - and I can understand why. Would definitely recommend a meal at Al Vecchio Fornello.

We liked the concept of this restaurant. Food was good as well. Concept: Sit down, reserve the table, order drinks/aperitivo and then go to the counter and choose your meat you want to eat. Prices are in €/100gr.. Meat was well prepared and seems to be local meat from farmers around the area. Plenty of space to sit down (May), will definitely be too full in August so come early (7pm). Situated directly at the main square.

I don't get why others gave a low star rating. Food is simply amazing: excellent meat excellently cooked. Gnumariddi are crunchy and inside soft. Very tasty. Wine, water, potatoes, we ate outside in a very inspiring street Bére Vecchia (Old Bari) and we spent 15€/each. What else? Well done guys, it was a pleasure to be your guests PS: the house wine is taken from old big jar, the Capasone. Lovely

We loved this place! It’s an experience! Please note that there is a long waiting time but us totally worth it. Great quality meat, friendly service and cheap! Eat the bombette, try them all!

Unique experience eating in a “butcher shop”. The experience is worth it and the food is good but not stellar (these are good cut of meat but they are served without much seasoning). Also we were lucky to eat inside by the counter and could see a lot of the action and had fast service but unless you are outside, the room where most people are is very loud, with low ceilings and felt like a less pleasant place to be.

A really cool experience ordering direct from the butcher and then having them cook the meat. The potatoes were also amazing - would highly recommend.

Le Chicche di Zia Rosa in Cisternino, Italy is a charming restaurant known for its marvellous food and great value. The menu offers delicious dishes like Capocollo from Martina Franca with rucola and Parmesan cheese, handmade Orecchiette alla crudaiola, and local specialties like broad beans cream and cicoria.
Good quality, good service and great value for money. We randomly sit here after having a look at the menu. And we nailed it! We started with an antipasto of Capocollo from Martina Franca with rucola and Parmesan cheese which was absolutely delicious. We continued with handmade Orecchiette alla crudaiola (with pesto and ricotta) and a typical local dish made with broad beans cream and cicoria respectively. We definitely enjoyed the meal served by (the owner?!) Mimmo, a funny and big man open to count his recipes and entertain his clients. With paid 35€ including ‘vino della casa’. Maybe the portion of orecchiette was a bit small, nevertheless I would Recommend a meal!

We had an early lunch here. Very polite and friendly service and food was great. The lamb was spectacular. I’m really happy we stayed there for lunch. Will visit again

It seemed to be the only restaurant open in town on a Wednesday in late November: two other restaurants Google said were open were in fact closed. I was the only customer during my entire meal there. Despite that, it took about 20 minutes for the primo (Orrechiette con Braciola) to arrive. For secondo I had the Salsiccia e Bombette: quantity was large, but taste was just ok. At the end of the meal I asked for macchiato, only to be told that the milk machine was not working. When I asked for the check, it was another 15-minute wait because the Point-of-Sale system was down. Comparing with the prices I see on the menu of other restaurants in town, this one was more expensive, and I can't say I was impressed with either the food or the service.

Good service and atmosphere. Food was disappointing. We ordered a pasta with anchovies. There were definitely no anchovies and we had to ask for salt to taste it. Wine was not available by the glass, they offered a bottle for $25. Was very nice. But charged €35. Life too short to question, was nice atmosphere but think we got an off day….

Simple, great tasting food. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, couldn’t fault anything. Like being at an Italian family home for dinner!

BAD BAD! Service is too slow! The food hasn’t arrived yet. We have been waiting a almost an hour, the sparkling water was warm. The waitress seems to be in a pace and delivers the dishes in a poorly manner. Antipasto was good, but arrived one hour after… tell you tomorrow if the dinner was good….

Delicious traditional Apuglian food located just off the main square. Mimo the chef (and owner) was very accommodating and altered dishes expertly for the vegan and gluten free members of our group. Priced well for the quality and large portions under €20 per head with wine.

Osteria Piatti Chiari is a classy yet understated country trattoria located in the small and charming historic center of Cisternino. The restaurant provides attentive yet informal service and features a selection of good wines, including premium labels from Apulia like Li Veli. Amazing experience! An explosion of flavors! This restaurant is a 100% recommendation - we have the filet and the pasta with truffle and scampi - delicious! As a antipasti we went for the parmigiana which was amazing 🥰

Very lovely food and incredible service. I called ahead because I was running a little bit late and knew that I would be cutting it very close to closing time and they were super accommodating and they made sure that we would be able to order. I couldn’t try the bigger cuts of meat but everything we ordered was impeccable and so was the wine. Highly recommend.

I would eat here again BUT I would ask them to leave more than 1 minute between clearing the antipasti plates to serving the main course. Food was excellent quality. After many heavy meals the octopus salad starter and tuna main made a lovely change. Croquettes and entrecotes also to be recommended. Outside searing is very pleasant. Just the rushed service was shocking. It truly was no more than 1 minute between courses. This was made worse by the complete lack of understanding from the staff who held fast to "other people like to eat fast". Other than that we can really recommend!

The food, drinks & hostess were amazingn the food came very quick which took the charm of it a little bit away. Also the waiters could have been a little more friendly. But overall would definetely recommendn

I really expected a lot more from this place based on the reviews. We ordered 3 appetizers all of which came out deep fried. We tried to order the steak but they said minimum size is 1k which is 2.2 pounds, which would be way too much steak for 2 people. The service was very kind but had to get their attention a few times when our wine was out. The clam pasta and the wine were really good.

We had lunch here today. Great food, staff were very knowledgeable and polite. Highly recommended
Declan C — Google review
The atmosphere on the terrace felt like mass catering. It was noisy, with many large groups, and the small tables were placed far too close together. We were seated at a tiny table without even a welcoming smile, which immediately made us feel unwelcome. Our order was taken by a young man who was, frankly, the least unfriendly of all the staff. The young women were consistently impolite, seeming annoyed, bored, and unmotivated. The filet we ordered was served well done instead of medium, as requested. When we sent it back, the server didn’t even bother to apologize. Within minutes, a new plate arrived – this time practically raw. The evening turned into a disaster, one we only managed to get through with a sense of humor. We quickly paid without ordering dessert just to leave this unpleasant place asap. There are far better restaurants in the village! We honestly cannot understand how this place received such a good review.

"Il Capriccio" is a classic local restaurant in Apulia that focuses on serving traditional Apulian cuisine to its local guests. The menu features a strong emphasis on meat dishes and standout pizzas, with generous portion sizes that encourage diners to opt for smaller primi portions if planning to indulge in secondi. The friendly and helpful waitstaff provide excellent service at local prices, making it an attractive dining option.
The restaurant is a classic local restaurant with focus on local guests. The food is straight Apulian. Especially the focus on meat dishes and the pizzas are a highlight. The serving size is huge. So don't hesitate to order the smaller primi size, when you plan to have a secondi. The waiters are friendly and helpful. The prices are local prices and not overpriced like many other restaurants.

I will give 2 stars for the waiters because they were nice and fast BUT ! The athmosphere feels very cheap , inside of the restaurant looks like a cheap cantina and the food was horrible big time ... I ordered a grilled chicken breast and they said that don t have . ok.. then the waiter told me that they have some kind of snitzel .. ok , so i ordered this ..kind of snitzel with a salad . First thing... the portion was very small and the snitzel also very small. i oredered just the snitzel and they came with fried potatos , that i didn t oreded and they put it on the paycheck. Everything was looking like hospital food .. even worse . Second , i also ordered some garlic maionaise and they brough me a table full full of it , and it was very nasty.. Third thing... the salad was very rotten and just some leaves without nothing , they throw some oils on the table like .. look the ingredients , make yourself your "salad" .. really ?:)) this is s restaurant ? . Awfull experience with the food ... if you want better food , go somewhere else .. you better pay more somewhere else , but you are respected and you eat right . I don t recomand this place

Probably one of the best restaurants I've been during my time spent in Apulia. Traditional kitchen, rustic typical food. Just gorgeous. The plates were full of food and we just couldn't stop eating. I'd go back there if I could. We had gelato for dessert, it was simply amazing. Unfortunately the journey to get there wasn't that nice, however it's a must go.

We were a big table, ordered pizza and everyone had issues with it, too juicy and absolutely no taste, also ordered a salad and they brought us a bowl with some rotten leaves inside and the oil next to the salad, we even recalled it because it was a health risk really bad experience especially with the food, maybe get some pasta. This restaurant brings you plain boring basic food with no taste.

Absolutely our favorite restaurant in Puglia! Authentic atmosphere, warm hospitality, and food to fall in love with. The antipasto is a must-try – overwhelming in the best way – and the fresh pasta is simply perfect. Feels like eating at a friend’s home in the countryside. Angela, Giovanni, Giuseppe, Doriana and the team make you feel truly welcome. In summer, enjoy the cozy outdoor terrace – but also in winter, it’s a joy to go to.

A Truly Wonderful Place – Authentic Italian Delight What a delightful place this is! Trullo dell’Angelo offers everything you hope to find in Italy: real, authentic cuisine, a warm atmosphere, and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like part of the family. The food is absolutely delicious — fresh, full of flavor, and clearly made with love and tradition. Every dish we tried was a celebration of local ingredients and Italian soul. It’s a genuine, family-run restaurant, and you can feel the passion in every detail. The setting is charming, the service is heartfelt, and the whole experience is one you won’t forget. If you're looking for true Italian authenticity, this is the place to be!

Bad experience there: no one speaks English (or anything else than Italian), and we Dutch tourists made ourselves hardly understood. Several requests remained unanswered... Mid summer, half of the menu was not available. Rabbit meat decent, chicken overcooked, no vegs available but dry baked potatoes, salad came out of a plastic pack from supermarket. As others mentioned, you have plenty of other better choices in Ostuni

One of the top destinations to indulge in this culinary delight can be found in Cisternino, specifically at Arrosteria del Vicoletto, a renowned chophouse restaurant. For a reasonable price of 25 euros, patrons can relish in appetizers, meat dishes, wine, and beer. However, it is worth noting that while the quantity provided is ample for its value, the quality of the wine could be considered average at best and the meat offerings are satisfactory.
Thanks to my local friends, we found this amazing restaurant with amazing food. I would admit it is better than Chinese BBQ.

We had a few friends with us and they gave us an option for 25 euros, appetizers, meat, wine and beer. Although it was relatively well priced for quantity, the wine was mediocre at best and the meat was ok. I guess you can get much better options here if you want to spend more.

Been there on Easter Monday. Party of 9 people. Before seating you will have to choose the meat cuts at the trattoria Butcher Bar. So far it’s ok it is part of the experience. The the butcher bar man will not follow your directions about counting the pieces of meat for a large group and he will randomly put the meat on the scale and measure. Some clients would appreciate that others not. After seated (table near toilet) the waitress Rebecca was extremely professional and very polite managing a large group of clients. She suggested portions of starters and taking the drinks order. Starters arrived. Three trays of cured meats (Parma, salami, coppa) and three trays of cheeses (2 types). The wine was a bit late. Arrived half way after the starters arrived. I suggest you choose the local wines by carafe. They are good. The meats we choose arrived for our main course. This is the land of a particular grilled meat called “bombette”. They were nice to taste but not too juicy. Hopefully next time will do better about this. Rebecca asked us for desserts. No dessert needed. After paying the bill we were offered for a local digestive (limoncello, grappa and laurel liquor). The atmosphere was ok. The table was near the toilet. The seats were not that comfortable on benches.

(Translated by Google) Eating excellent meat and delicious vegetables in the alleys of the center of Cisternino...a beautiful experience. It works like this: you ask for a table assignment (inside the restaurant or outside, in the street), then you choose the meat at the butcher's and pay for it. You take possession of the assigned table and wait for the meat to arrive, perhaps ordering and tasting other delicacies. Recommended place. In the case of weekends it is best to book by phone, to reduce waiting times.

A waitress simply kicked us out because the kitchen opened at 7 pm and we were seated at 6:51 pm… unheard of, because by the time we'd had an aperitif, we would have been there in no time… I think she just wasn't keen on working. It's a shame, as we have a villa in Ceglie and obviously won't be giving this restaurant any good publicity… (Original) Le patron devrait mieux sélectionner son personnel. (Translated by Google) We went to Cisternino last night, the small town was crowded, not much choice, we sat where we found space. What a nice surprise, the octopus plate was generous, very nicely presented, excellent. For my part, I chose chicken, delicious. Our son had a hamburger on a plate with classic sides, fries, salad. The plate was huge, meat cooked rare as desired. Everything was perfect, even the bill, less than 20€ per person with a drink. Go for it! Foncez! Vous n’allez pas le regretter

Taverna della Torre in Cisternino offers a delightful dining experience with its elegant outdoor setting and high-quality Pugliese cuisine. The restaurant is known for its delicious local cheeses, aubergine ravioli, pork fillet, rabbit, and traditional dishes like pork roast medallions and classic ragu. The attentive service and emphasis on using high-quality ingredients make it a standout choice in the area.
The restaurant is just great! Very nice environment, very good service, friendly people working there. The dishes were very tasty! Ravioli are probably the tastiest we've ever tasted in Puglia region!

What a blast!!! Traditional Apuglian trattoria with a Chef touch. Everything is home made with high quality ingredient. Also vey conscious with slow food. The service is amazing. Don’t hesitate if you are around.

This was recommended by a Slow Food guide, and I was thrilled that it was open in January when so many other places were closed. The meal felt special. First, the bread was good, not just obligatory filler. We ordered the house antipasti to share between the two of us and were astonished at how much food kept coming. I was especially fond of a crispy stacked zucchini assembly that I don’t know the name of and also the marinated aubergine slices. Our main courses were also delicious. I would also like to mention the kindness of the team that fed us, both front-of-house and kitchen. I felt in the presence of goodness.

While we only got pasta dishes here they were excellent: eggplant-stuffed ravioli with buffalo mozzarella and two Orrechietes. Highly recommended spot in Cisternino with nice outdoor seating.

It was a Saturday lunchtime and the food was nice. Atmosphere very quiet as we were the only ones in. Tuna tartare bland but I've found that a lot with many places. The parmigiana was lovely. The owner, I presume, was fine but was arranging the tables around us whilst we were there for the evening dj. Just didn't get the "oh we must come back here" feeling. Shame as so often the Italians are so lovely and friendly.

We ordered the shrimp tartare and unfortunately, it had a very unpleasant smell, suggesting it wasn’t fresh. The portion was extremely small—barely a spoonful—and it cost €18, which felt completely unjustified. When we raised our concerns, the waitress was unhelpful and refused to replace the dish. Very disappointing experience.

La Piazzetta may not catch your eye from the outside, but its interior is stunning. Visitors rave about the delicious pizzas and unique salads with eggplant. The restaurant's staggering selection of antipasti is simple, fresh, and beautifully presented. While it can get busy and parking is a challenge, making reservations is recommended. Despite its unassuming appearance, this local pizzeria offers a lovely atmosphere and accommodating service without requiring a reservation.
Unexpectedly - Fantastic Very popular with locals, now I know why ! Good sized portions, friendly but busy staff, just go with the flow and enjoy the atmosphere ! We had the fried baby octopus starter, lovely tender seafood, then a mixed meat grill, the lamb ribs and chop so succulent, if you don’t mind slightly fatty(I don’t), the mixed seafood grill was brilliant, tender octopus and cuttlefish, so tender and flavoursome as well. Perhaps a little drizzled garlic butter would have been perfect👌. Nice fragrant carafe of white house wine, but you need to ask for it, not on wine menu. Going back tonight to our most enjoyable place 👍

Top Spot in Casalini – Delicious Every Time! La Piazzetta is such a wonderful place — whether you're in the mood for a perfect pizza, a tasty pasta, a juicy piece of meat, or their amazing homemade antipasti, this is the place to be. We came in on a random Tuesday night wanting to stay away all the touristy towns and saw all the good reviews from locals - turned out to be a smart strategy. This gem doesn't look like much from the outside...but... it's gorgeous on the inside. We also had some of the best pizzas we had in 3 weeks on the Adriatic coast! The salad we had was also different (with eggplant) and delicious. Parking is a challenge and it gets very busy so recommend reservations. Will return if we are in the area!

The first time I dined here we were seated outside, and the smell of cat litter was very strong from the restaurant’s cat. Inside is much nicer, with a beautiful atmosphere, though it can get very crowded. On my second visit, service was slow — it took five requests and about an hour just to receive our check. They also don’t make cocktails, so drink options are limited. Overall, a mixed experience: some charm, but a few drawbacks.

Nestled in the charming town of Cisternino, Giardini 36 is a delightful bistrot that showcases the essence of Pugliese cuisine. Run by the warm-hearted duo Catia and Davide, this eatery offers an array of tapas crafted from fresh produce sourced directly from their organic vegetable garden. The ambiance is enhanced by unique decor elements, including a countertop made from reclaimed wood and artistic touches like prickly pear decorations.

We had a wonderful dinner at Giardini 36! A bit off the beaten path, a perfect setting. The people who welcomed us were incredibly kind, giving us great recommendations and offerring chalks to our daughters so they can draw on the wall. But more importantly, each dish was better than the other (with perfect wine pairings, which was super nice compared to other places who simply offered ok wine by the glass). Dishes were so tasty, wonderfully executed, with beautiful ingredients and lots of talent. We loved every bite. Even our daughter said “can we live in Italy forever?”. They also loved the yummy bread and focaccia, dipped in delicious olive oil :) Thanks for having us!

Really nice people working here and great local ingredients. Many of the dishes were a bit too innovative though, to the point that it wasn’t quite delicious and was just different, if that makes sense. The basics were great — caprese, salumi — but the seafood gnocchi was way too salty and the octopus with lentils a bit bland and rubbery. Maybe we just ordered seafood too far from the sea! Great local wine list though, and friendly!

The best meal we’ve had in Italy! I know this statement is common for Google Reviews, but I swear I’m telling the truth. We stumbled in mid-day and Christian and Giovanni treated us to an inspiring meal of thoughtfully cooked local seafood. Christian rattled off a list of daily specials and we settled on a clam pasta and salt crusted whole Orata (sea bream). The clam pasta was delicate and refreshing with perfectly al dente noodles. The sea bream was tender and flakey, with Giovanni cracking the salt crust and surgically filleting the steaming fish. They taught us about the local ingredients and offered us the perfect wine pairing (I left with an extra bottle). We ended the meal with sorbet, dessert liquor, and a shot of espresso. I cannot recommend this restaurant and its people enough.

(Translated by Google) Good quality food in line with the price, but I've found something with more authentic flavors in the surrounding areas. The service was fast, but unfortunately, it deserves one star for three unpleasant incidents. The first: I arrived at 8:00 PM without a reservation and was told exactly this: "I'll give you the table, but the reserved table is at 9:30 PM, so you have an hour and a half to eat." I easily finished dinner in an hour, but I certainly could have found a less obnoxious way to say it. The second: I sat down at a table (in a completely empty room) with my little dog, who was on a 50-cm leash. The waiter came over with a bottle of water and said, "Maybe you could put the dog under the table so he doesn't disturb the service." I had to reassure my wife, who wanted to get up and leave, and she pointed out that there are ways and means. The third: the glass-enclosed outdoor dining area was a bit chilly. I ate with my jacket on, and only after two more tables were seated did we have the pleasure of seeing the stove lit.

Rosticceria La Pineta is a restaurant that prides itself on being quick, precise, and attentive to its customers. They utilize high-quality ingredients and expertly prepare their dishes. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. The only minor downside is that not all types of assorted bombette were served, but this is not a serious issue. Additionally, the restaurant offers great quality meat alongside fast service and friendly staff.

Pescé Fish&Mang is a charming spot located in a shaded corner of the piazza, offering a delightful dining experience. The swordfish tataki and octopus burger are highly recommended for their exceptional quality and expert preparation. Diners praise the freshness of the seafood, likening it to the taste of the ocean, while also highlighting the top-notch ingredients used in every dish. The attentive service adds to the overall fantastic experience, making visitors feel truly special.

Came here for lunch. Lovely little shaded spot with just a few bench tables tucked in the corner of the piazza. I had the swordfish tataki and it was really great quality produce and cooking. Done to perfection - seared on the outside and beautifully rare in the middle. My wife had the octopus burger which was also just as tasty.

Lovely fresh fish but unfriendly and staff. Restaurant which is very dependent on tourism should be more welcome towards other nations. I speak 4 languages but my Italian is very basic, because of that fact I felt very uncomfortable and my bill was more to what I ordered.

We have eaten here two days in a row--delicious! For my first meal, I had grilled calamari over pureed sweet potatoes with perfect seasonings, little red peppercorns and a tablespoon of pickled beet garnish for a burst of brined taste. My husband had a perfectly grilled seafood assortment with a local chardonnay recommended by the proprietor. He also had a tuna tartar panini on a delicious bun with mozzarella and arugula that was outstanding. Mid-way through our first meal, we had already promised ourselves that we would be back the next day--talk about thinking ahead! My second meal repeated my first--and was equally as delicious. My husband loved the seafood carbonara--made with runny, fresh, super bright orange egg yolks from local free range chickens over angel hair pasta. My husband really enjoyed this but you order it, you must not expect a traditional carbonara or a spaghetti con vongole-like pasta, either visually or by taste. It is sui generis. When we return next year, we will make this our go-to spot. A modern and delicious take on fish! Susan and Will Ann Arbor, Michigan USA

We had dinner twice here in this beautiful restaurant during our 3 days stay in Cisternino because the food was so delicious. It is a family owned restsurant and you see/feel their love and passion to their job and cooking. Everything is very fresh, from top quality and homemade. Not only the pasta they do by their own, but also smoking the salmon, creating the deserts & cookies and their honemade salumi. This taste is incredible, you really feel and see o big difference! It's amazing! We had the Polpetti and Spaghetti vongole which belong both to their signature dishes. But also the salmon tartare with Avocado, the salmon carpaccip as well as the Fish of the Day were outstanding! There is a nice terrasse in beautiful ambiente outside, inside you can have a direct look into the kitchen how they prepair your food. Service is also very friendly & professional. If you have any questions, need a recommendation (food or wine) or if you have other requirements, they do it with pleasure and a smile. Very high customer orientation. We stayed in the Essenza B&B which is close to the restaurant ll Grappolo, but we would also drive for a much longer time to enjoy such a excellent fresh food for an absolute reasonable & fair price. If you love fresh, regional & homemade food of high quality, authentic Italian style and appeeciate nice ambiente, you have to go there and eat! We can highly recommend this restaurant and would go there more often if we would not leave Italy tomorrow morning. Big Parking available in front of the restaurant, for free.

Perfect for us as a family of four, one child doesn't like pizza or pasta much, so having hot dogs on the menu was a saviour! The other child adores pizza and loved the Margherita. We enjoyed the various antipasti (as not the biggest seafood fans, we surprised ourselves enjoying the cold seafood salad and tuna carpaccio). The pollo tagliata went down very well with my husband and I enjoyed the fritto misto (very fresh with good seasoning). Very easy to park outside and then to walk up into the main Centro area for a drink and crepe after! Would definitely go again.

Puglia is known for its diverse range of delicious cheeses, with burrata being the standout. Cheese & Co., a bistro in Puglia, offers an array of cheese options including caciocavallo, stracciatella, and caciorticotta. Not only do they cater to cheese lovers, but they also have a full vegan menu that provides a variety of vegan options from sandwiches to salads, pasta to smoothies.
Just came home from this restaurant in Cisternino. It's a family-owned restaurant where you directly notice how friendly the people who work there are. This place has a separate vegan menu which is something that a lot more restaurants should do. I could eat whatever was on the menu and my girlfriend (vegan) had a wide variety of choises. We both went for the suggestions of the day. We shared a vegan antipasto ( we forgot to take pictures because we started to eat everything as it was truly delicious. The antipasti came in a lot of separate turns. It started with a vegan cheese and ham platter, some friselle with tomatoes, Fried zucchini flowers, toasted bread with a mixture of tomatoes , vegan tuna sauce(they made this themselves and it was supertasty) and potatoes, couscous with crumbled taralli, a Nice kind of salad with zucchini, corn, tomatoes, olives... maybe i forgot something but everything was delicious and i'm not even vegan.. As my primo I had the orrechiette with tomato sauce, stracciatella and pistacchio as my primo and for my secondo I chose the typical bombette(tip: look it up if you don't know it, it's tasty and typical for Cisternino). Everything was just so very tasteful! My girlfriend had the vegan spaghetti caccio e peppe as a primo and secondo was vegan vitello tonnato (made with seitan and their selfmade tuna sauce). She was smiling throughout the whole dinner. I tasted the things she ordered and even I was impressed! As a desert she asked if she could have vegan pancakes with pistacchio cream(not on the menu) but they said it was no problem and made it for her. Afterwards when I went inside to pay(it was midnight and we were the only customers left) we started talking (the owner and the twin girls). We talked about all kind of stuff, where i was from, what life is like where i live, where they were from... We talked untill 1am even though they still had to clean up outside and they normally close at midnight. We got offered some amari (one was spicy, the other was a pistacchio liquor). The owner even told me to call him sometime soon😂. This restaurant was something special, offering the typical food as well as a separate vegan menu while also delivering quality on both sides and not being expensive. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside and very cute outside. The people are super friendly and the food is delicious! Thanks for a lovely evening !
Andrea A — Google review
Being vegan, it’s not always easy to find a nice spot which has more than pasta pomodore. Following Happy Cow’s positive reviews about this place, we arrived here quite late in the evening, being a little bit hangry already. :) At first glance we were a bit surprised about the interior of the restaurant, which seemed more like a take away place and wasn’t really cosy. But the staff totally made up for that. We had the warmest welcome from the entire family, who turned our (before a bit dissapointing) evening into a lovely ending of our day. It’s a family run business and while dad and daughter aren’t vegan, the mother is. She created an entirely vegan menu with burgers, sandwiches, yoghurt bowls and many more. You can see they all really make the food with love and passion. We had a good chat and left with a smile. It was really good! You won’t regret coming here. Thank you, Cheese&Co!
Flo V — Google review
I do not recommend this place! If you're looking for a vegan and/or gluten free restaurant, it can be hard to find in Puglia. But eating there was worse than cooking myself. The portions are small, it doesn't taste like it should for a restaurant. Must've been one of my worst experiences of eating outside. They really need to do something about it.
Jonathan K — Google review

they have a full vegan menu! something you cherish when you are in Puglia, especially in Cisternino where the other vegan place is closed. from sandwiches to salads, from pasta to smoothies, they have a whole range of vegan stuff, including vegan affettati and cheese. on top, they have vegan pancakes as dessert that are amazing. the staff is super sweet and professional. if you are vegan, this is the place to be!
Alessio M — Google review
If you are vegan don't bother to go there... Shop bought vegan bresaola the same story with the vegan cheese.. Very overpriced. I got a salad with half kilo of iceberg, 3 slices of sad tomato, 10slices of vegan ham(shop bought again) and no dressing. They served us very cold red wine and after we mentioned that and asked for another bottle they said it will get warm while standing on the table(!). Seems like they want to catch people for vegan options but they completely don't understand what vegan food is. I don't understand how they can serve such poor quality and tasteless, shop bought products while being situated in South Italy full of beautiful vegetables. If you are vegan just better go to a regular restaurant and eat nice plate of pasta or pizza. Cheese & Co. is a disaster.
Maciejka P — Google review
The service was excelent! The young girl twins were very kind. The sandwich (made from local goods), the hamburger and the gluten free focaccia were tasty. We were allowed to choose any kind of juice and we chose kiwi with watermelone. We got an extra lemon cream/shake for free. :)

We were drawn in by the charismatic owner who showed us what he had and sold us a tasting of different food for two. The food looked ok in the glass but it was a different story when it came. It was cold, greasy and the focaccia was so hard we couldn't even try it. We took about two bites, drank our wine and left the rest of the food on the table. 40 euros lost there. Worst meal in our entire 2 weeks in Puglia!

Finally, an authentic Apulian panzerotto! The exterior is dry and the interior has a flavorful filling, which surprises many. It stands out from the typical greasy ones. The owners are very friendly and kind, despite having numerous customers. I highly recommend trying this delightful corner of Puglia. Moreover, the prices are extremely affordable at Pizzeria L'Angoletto.

A lovely restaurant located in Cisternino. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere! The service was fabulous! We had a two course meal and the food was delicious and beautiful presented! We had the pulled work croquettes for starter then fish and chips and steak for main. Everything was very reasonably priced for the quality of food. Will most definitely be coming back and recommending it to others! (Picture below was of the Pulled Pork croquettes)

We loved this place. It’s like stepping into a time capsule. Inside you are transported on a voyage back to the 80s/90s with the decor, menu and music. The place has a small entrance with the meat counter to choose from, and then a separate room with three tables where you can taste the dishes you ordered. I must say that in my opinion there should be a slightly wider choice regarding the type of bowlers, but let's say that they also have rolls and sausage. The choice is possible to have the meat on the plate or with the sandwich and the baked potatoes in foil are delicious. Very kind staff, really very affectionate and caring lady, always smiling.
