The Anchor Inn is a charming pub and restaurant located near Tintern Abbey, offering a spacious garden and a diverse menu featuring both British classics and international favorites. Situated within the abbey grounds, it provides stunning views of the river and the neighboring abbey, making it an ideal stop during a Wye Valley road trip. Occasionally hosting events, visitors are advised to check for any potential disruptions to parking and facilities before planning their visit.
Lovely pub in a great location right next to the abbey ample parking at £5 but with the ticket you get £5 off in the abbey or the Anchor pub… food was really nice especially sat in the garden with the abbey in view. Bonus of a kids play area in the rear and football pitch just off the garden.

Great food and service, with views of the abbey if you wish. The food was homemade and fresh. You can get both heavier and lighter foods. There are also tasty ciders and espressos.

Very busy restaurant, which is always a good sign. Booked in advance, which I suggest you do. Parking is £5, which the restaurant refunds and parking is at minimum. Great service, polite and efficient. Had rump steak, my partner had a ham & leak pie. Steak was wonderful. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend this place. Beautiful surroundings, hence the abby. There’s a reason this place is always fully booked on a Sunday - the carvery’s are absolutely amazing! Definitely get your moneys worth and there’s 3 meat options. This is my third time going and I can’t recommend it enough- just make sure to book a table well in advance.
Lucy B — Google review
Went for carvery lunch with my elderly mother I cannot rate the service high enough, young restaurant manager offered to carry my mothers plate and even told her if she wanted to stay in her seat he would go make a plate up. Carvery was 3 meats, gammon beef and turkey. Lovely big yourshires, good veg selection and all very hot. Standard is only £16 small plate was £11. Will definitely come again. Parking can be tricky on busy days.

Absolutely delicious. All food cooked freshly. Friendly staff, lovely to find a fully dog friendly pub. Really enjoyed our meal, thank you
Debs Y — Google review
Very good food, great service, and a lovely spot in the cafe area, by a window that overlooked Tintern Abbey, as requested.
K.A. B — Google review
What a fantastic pub and a lovely atmosphere. The staff were brilliant too and allowed me to charge my mobile phone while I was stranded with a puncture on my motorcycle. Thank God the pub was nearby. I was there for 5 hours awaiting the awful RAC to recover me and my bike. I left at 2045hrs from the pub car park. Got home at 2AM! Thanks to all at the Anchor for looking after me. 🙏🫡🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The Rose & Crown in Tintern is a charming riverside pub offering casual rooms with a furnished terrace that provides scenic views of the river. The pub serves home-cooked food, a selection of ales, and has a dedicated vegan menu. It's known for its friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. The beer garden by the river offers lovely views of the River Wye and surrounding countryside, making it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy drinks.
Really good, friendly country pub that serves beautiful food at good prices. It's not £17 a baguette, it's £17 for a 8 Oz steak with all the trimmings in a baguette. It's dog and walker friendly They serve a beautiful Sunday lunch. Serves as a nice hub to walk the Wye valley. Highly recommend.

The landlady was so lovely. The food was delicious and tons of it. It was my birthday and when dessert came out, there were candles on it. Such a lovely surprise. It’s situated on the river, a beautiful location. Would recommend it unreservedly. You won’t be disappointed.

Beautiful view, fresh beer, HUGE food portions (enough for me and my girlfriend to share) we had spicy chicken wrap with the best homemade cut chips that's were both crispy and soft on inside. £14.95 for 2 wraps with a huge portion of chips, definitely best place around! 22/10 will be back soon

Cafe
The Filling Station Cafe is a charming spot located near the stunning ruins of Tintern Abbey and the River Wye. It's a family-run establishment known for its exceptional coffee, delectable homemade cakes, and tasty filled baguettes. The cafe is owned by Vin and Lou Kennedy, who take pride in their 5-star food hygiene rating. Whether you're a cyclist, walker, tourist, or local resident, you'll feel welcome at this centrally located cafe.
What an absolute joy the Filling Station is! Just lovely and scrummy and delicious. GF options were fabulous even at the end of the day on a Sunday, Coconut flapjack was gorgeous, Mocha was delicious including Belgian chocolate shavings and the carrot cake was divine!! Highly recommend and we will be back
Chris L — Google review
Popped in for a quick bite. Paninis or baguettes with a good selection of filling. A good choice of coffees and cakes too. They swapped the bacon out and put chutney with brie for us. Delicious. Americanos in black and white also delicious. Lovely staff. Very cosy with the woodburner inside. Plenty of seating outside to front and down round the back. Only downside no loo. However just a short walk to the one at the Abbey carpark.
Carolynn S — Google review
A great café in the middle of town and a great option for lunch, tea, or coffee if you are in Tintern. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They are constantly busy but they have good and friendly service! I think what stood out to me was when I ordered coffee, the young lady asked me how strong I wanted it. Normally you pay extra for that but I guess it’s not unusual for them! She saw how pleasantly surprised I was when she asked me that. I went for the strongest of course! Great and friendly service, cheap but quality food.
Dean F — Google review
The best carrot cake I've ever had and a bostin mug of tea! This little place can get very busy on sunny days, and I can see why. Highly recommended!
Simon B — Google review
Coffee and people watching, what a great idea! Called in for a coffee after a long day at work. Great service and the latte was great! I did consider a snack, but I declined because I was still full from breakfast. Everything looked great, and next time I'm going to try a cake! Parking on a busy day can be difficult because of Tintern being an absolute honeypot. But the Filling Station is definitely somewhere to try if you are in the area. Sat outside
Allan J — Google review
We stopped off for a coffee to warm up as a family and our Labrador. We found the coffee was great - lovely chocolate on the mocha! The fire to warm you up in such a cosy place was a nice touch. Highly recommend it has bike parking rack out the front so clearly popular with cyclists too.
Jack T — Google review
Just had the nicest cup of coffee in about 6 years from this place. I knew it would be good when I was asked how strong I wanted it, on a scale of 1-10… We also picked up some ice cream from The Hub, across the road, which is part of the same cafe. Flavours were lovely. Can’t recommend it more
Glynn W — Google review
Can't say enough positive things about the filling station cafe! Very high quality, service food and drink. Indoor and outdoor seating available and staff very knowledgeable of the area. Called in by bike for refreshments and was made immediately welcome. This is a very popular cycling stop.

Nestled just a stone's throw from the picturesque River Wye and less than a mile from the historic Tintern Abbey, Parva Farmhouse is a charming 17th-century establishment that beautifully combines period features with modern comforts. This delightful B&B offers free WiFi and boasts an inviting restaurant and lounge area, making it perfect for both relaxation and dining.
What a great place to stay. The bed was so comfortable, the room was cosy warm, with good sized en suite shower. Dinner was excellent, the Halibut was perfection. Breakfast lived up to expectations. Front of house/owner was so pleasant and helpful.

I stayed one night here and couldn't recommend it more! A warm welcome, the most delicious food with incredible vegan options provided, and very comfortable - I felt very much at home. A beautiful setting too. Thank you!
Jemima J — Google review
We stayed for 2 nights, it was a lovely stay and great location. The farmhouse has charm and feels welcoming and friendly. The room was snuggly and we had a wonderful view of the river. Marta had baked biscuits that were in our room and it was a nice touch to have a coffee machine. We tried Roger’s evening menu and the food was excellent. As the farmhouse only has a few rooms it was lovely at breakfast to chat with the other guests staying. It was a very hot few days during our visit and unfortunately I had a little too much sun, Marta kindly looked after me with the electrolytes to hand! Really recommend Parva Farmhouse as a place to stay.
Jemma G — Google review
Absolutely flawless! We had the most amazing meal here tonight; each course was perfection and wonderful wine to pair too. The menu is very well thought out and outstanding value for the quality of food. Marta is a fabulous host and the service is spot on. So glad to have found this gem and can’t wait to return!
Ginnie D — Google review
Lovely place for a quiet retreat. Used it as starting point to go to the Beacons and go fishing locally. Nice rooms in perfect condition (well maintained and clean) Breakfast is fantastic, but do try dinner there, it was absolutely fabulous.
Erik B — Google review
No hesitation recommending this wonderful farmhouse to stay and eat. Marta is a wonderful host with great attention to detail. The rooms are well furnished and equipped. The food is exceptional with an interesting breakfast menu. Shakshuka and the full cooked offer were both top notch. Great location for exploring the Wye Valley and Tintern, with walks from the farmhouse. Handy stop on Offa's Dyke walk. Beware, the area can be quiet early in the week and Roger's fabulous evening meals are only Wed to Sat. Don't miss out!

Nestled near the iconic Tintern Abbey, The White Monk Tea Room & Gift Shop is a delightful spot for travelers seeking a cozy dining experience. With its charming outdoor seating surrounded by vibrant plants and flowers, it’s the perfect place to unwind after exploring the abbey. The menu boasts an array of delicious options, including hearty fried breakfasts, tasty paninis, and comforting jacket potatoes.
First came here in about 2013/2014 and it was fantastic. The scones were the best I’ve ever had. Didn’t disappoint all these years later! Be sure to arrive earlier for clotted cream though! The butter was very good too though!

Had a coffee stop here after a walk around the nice village. Prices actually better than I thought given the location and constant stream of people in the village. Nice Latte, unfortunately no cream or marshmallows for the hot chocolate. Scone was ok but not much jam.

Surprisingly good espresso. Really tasty full breakfast, sausage patty is the highlight.

Stopped off here with my dog this afternoon. Had a lovely cream tea and pooch had a doggy ice cream. The staff were friendly, tea room was clean and comfortable. Lovely location too right next to Tintern Abbey.
Angela R — Google review
Nice cafe which is right next to tintern abbey and it's obviously a tourist trap. The breakfast was good but it's the smallest breakfast I've ever had.The plate it was served on was very small so looking at the photo it doesn't look to bad but the plate wasn't much bigger than a side plate and I've no idea how they can manage to cut the black pudding so thin,it really must have taken a lot of skill to slice it like that. There was a very small sausage patties aswell which did taste nice but at £10.00 it really was a rip off.i left feeling like I hadn't even eaten anything.Everything on the plate tasted excellent but at that price I think there really should have been 2 of everything except the beans as there was plenty of them.Theres no way I'd ever eat here again as like I said it's just a tourist trap ripping you off.nice staff and settling tho but I definitely wouldn't return here
Ian B — Google review
We stopped off to wave our son past on a 1000km cycle race - the staff couldn't have been nicer, more welcoming or more helpful. We only had tea (it was a baking hot day) but that was really well made - a lovely cuppa. Tintern Abbey remains on our "to visit" list, and we know exactly where we'll be going back to for refreshments when we visit!
T G — Google review
Dreadful. Avoid at all costs. Waited far to long for tea and cream scones. Overheard in the kitchen that they'd run out of jam, then the assistant said "well it doesn't say what jam" scones came with very rustic blackcurrant jam not what you'd expect for a cream tea. The scones left much to be desired. Waited longer, still no tea, so I asked where it was another ten minutes and 2 builders mugs of hot water with a tea bag in were plonked in front of us. By this time enough was enough and I asked for my money back. Rude and condescending woman reluctantly agreed while telling me I would've been asked if I wanted a cup or a mug. (I was not.) She stated the same again prompting me to say I wasn't lying. What a disappointing and awful experience which ruined am otherwise pleasant day out. Please don't waste your time and money in my experience it's just not worth it. Also we were told we couldn't order other food due to staff going home but the guy in front had been allowed to order, although in hindsight this was a blessing in disguise.

The area surrounding the mill is known for its stunning views and attractions like the 17th-century inn, The Fountain Inn, which serves local fresh food and real ales. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a unique cafe experience with iconic red umbrellas and views of Tintern Abbey.
Treated our friends to Christmas Carvery Lunch at Abbey Mill yesterday! Genuinely warm welcome from the staff and restaurant looked really festive. Food was beautifully presented and brought piping hot to our table. We chose the beef, turkey and salmon with all the trimmings and friends couldn’t stop talking about how tender the meat was. Desserts arrived to hushed silence - sublime! Then teas, coffees and mince pies at our leisure. Atmosphere was very jolly and everyone really enjoyed themselves. A super lunch shared with friends, really good value plus plenty of free parking. ‘Wish it could be Christmas every day’… at Abbey Mill!

Had afternoon on Saturday was lovely and staff were brilliant and friendly and food was fresh and worth money. And lovely shops out side with kinds staff too. Deffo recommend both.
Lexi L — Google review
Superb afternoon tea. The food was home made and amazing. Highlights for me were the savoury pastry items, scotch egg, fluffy scones, Victoria sandwich cake and chocolate brownie. Thankfully, they gave us decent bags to take some home, as it was a very generous amount. Nicely served on china by polite and efficient staff. Only downside was that our table was right by the window with everyone queuing to be seated, inches away the other side of the glass. That's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. I guess we were just unlucky to have that table, others would have been fine. Excellent value for money. Dog friendly.
Juliet W — Google review
Lovely place, beautiful setting. Food was very nice, but shame they only serve white bread, giving me a limited choice. However, the quiche was amazing and the salad too. Dog friendly, big bonus. Mill Wheel Teacake was nice, cinnamon butter a very nice touch! Bit of a challenge to order a beer. There were hardly any in the fridge, no menu and it was only by chance I saw the Morretti tap!
Tracy S — Google review
Stopped off on our way home from Monmouth. Spacious car park. A few little shops and a restaurant. We had a lovely ice cream and took a walk over the bridge to look at the amazing views.

Very picturesque and well appointed. Some wonderful shops, bars, restaurants and seating. Lovely old Mill parts visible and working. Took a nice walk and did some shopping. Aside from 1 member of staff in a little shop near the tea room everyone was lovely and cheerful, offering great conversation and service. The spirit of the green man shop was like a chunk of Glastonbury magic and I purchased a few beautiful and well priced items there, the gent that runs it is very nice, friendly and helpful

Nestled in the picturesque Forest of Dean, The Fountain Inn is a delightful 200-year-old village pub that exudes charm and warmth. This inviting establishment not only serves up hearty dishes paired with local wines but also offers cozy accommodations, including bed & breakfast options and self-catering group lodging at the Fountain Lodge. Guests can immerse themselves in the rich history of the area while enjoying an impressive collection of artifacts that adorn this atmospheric pub.
Stayed in the village over the easter weekend. Booked a table for 10 people on a Saturday evening, pretty much had a room to ourselves. Food was pre ordered due to number in party. Make sure you're hungry when you visit because you'll be stuffed by the time you leave 😅. Food was very well presented and very nice. Also booked for 6 of us for the Sunday roast. Again, loads of food and very tasty. Staff were great, friendly and accommodating. Would definitely go again if in the area.
Mark G — Google review
The landlady was lovely, warm and friendly. The Fountain Inn is a lovely pub with a dog friendly eating area and separate restaurant for those who don't want canine company. We went there today, 22 June 2025, four adults and two canine companions. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff who were smiley and helpful. We have four Sunday roasts and puddings. The food was excellent, meat was tender and veg cooked to perfection. The nut roast was flavoursome too. The food was excellent value for money. They went over and beyond to make our visit a great experience. Would very much recommend and would definitely visit again when in the area.
Tracey G — Google review
I chose this pub/restaurant because of the good reviews. However, myself and my family were all very disappointed with the Sunday roast. The beef was very well done with no option for it to be less well done. The pork was okay but the crackling was soft and inedible. The Yorkshire puddings were overcooked and so crispy that they were pretty much inedible. The roast potatoes were passable but not great. The overall experience was very disappointing and we did not have dessert due to how disappointing the main meal was. On the plus side, the service was good. The food came up fairly promptly. There was enough food to satisfy everyone and the table was laid up nicely. The toilets were clean although the disabled toilet was not really accessible to a wheelchair user (I am a wheelchair user) due to the positioning of where the diners were sat.
Jane — Google review
Eaten here tonight. My 2nd time visiting to eat out. Service was attentive and really nice Staff are very helpful, polite and give the impression that they really care. The food was absolutely stunning. I had a rump steak that was cooked to perfection and was a lovely cut of meat. My wife and daughter both expressed the same opinion, we had a lovely evening. Thank you very much to all at the Fountain Inn. We will definitely be back soon.
Trevor K — Google review
Went in for dinner, saw their menu online and thought it was a lot more interesting than other similar types of pubs. All the tables were reserved on a weekday evening in the summer holidays so would definitely recommend booking in advance (especially if you have a dog like us). The staff were all very very lovely and the food came quickly, the beef on the braised beef was slightly dry and the one of us who had the burger didn’t really enjoy it. But felt generally like good value for money and the other 2 of us enjoyed our meals greatly.

The Wye Valley Hotel is a modest, family-operated inn with relaxed accommodations. Its restaurant and bar offer a casual atmosphere, while the terrace provides a pleasant outdoor space. The establishment features comfortable rooms with private bathrooms that are impeccably clean and equipped with amenities like tea, coffee, and biscuits. Guests can enjoy delicious meals at the bar area, where dishes like steak with peppercorn sauce and fish and chips are particularly outstanding. The breakfast options are also excellent and abundant.
My partner and I booked a stay here in September 2024 for his birthday weekend. From the initial phone call I was impressed with how accommodating they were. I have various dietary needs and usually going away anywhere is quite stressful, however the staff here put my mind at ease immediately. They had multiple options for me to eat at breakfast and the evening meal we had was delicious! In hindsight we should have eaten here on both evenings as the food is amazing! The room was lovely, warm, clean and nicely decorated. The hotel location is perfect for walking through Tintern itself and equally for a short drive to Chepstow. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Grace was very attentive, always checking in to reassure me about my food choices and to check that we were happy with everything. We would love to stay here again, perhaps with more time to explore further afield this time!
Jenny W — Google review
Delicious breakfast in this fabulous inn. The rooms are compact and the road noise can be problematic with the window open but the hotel is well situated in Tintern. The sun has shined and the walks have been magical.

Hotels like the Wye Valley Hotel are a rare find nowadays. Sue, Barry and Grace are among the loveliest hosts I’ve ever met. Don’t expect boutique hotel pretensions and fancy rooms: this is good old fashioned hospitality in the truest sense, and great value. The beds are comfy, the shower’s got power, there’s plenty of parking, the Wye Valley ale is kept like nectar. The walking trails start opposite the hotel. We also got a bus (from right outside) to Monmouth and walked the 12 miles back. A fab day out. And it’s true: Sue’s fish and chips is divine. As are the pies. And the broccoli and Stilton soup! All in all every bit my idea of a perfect weekend enjoying the UK at its best.

They ruined fish and chips anywhere else for me. This was the best I've ever had. I didn't know Cod grew this thick. It was perfectly cooked and juicy. Together with the rarebit starter and desert it was an excellent meal in a lovely setting. Thanks so much to the cook!

I loved the feel of this family run hotel situated in a prominent position in Tintern with easy access to the abbey and to many other interesting places. Service was excellent and the food was scrumptious. Very reasonably priced including breakfast- the eggs benedict was the best I have had in a long time. My room was spotlessly clean and the bathroom was very spacious with a bath and a shower- lovely soft white towels and pleasantly perfumed toiletries. Parking was off the road with easy access.
