Historical landmark
Gretna Green Famous Blacksmiths Shop is a historic wedding venue with a symbolic anvil and a rich exhibition of its history. It has been the number one wedding destination in the UK since 1754, offering all-inclusive wedding packages and venue-only options to suit various budgets and guest sizes. Couples can exchange vows inside the iconic shop over the world-famous Anvil or choose from other Gretna Green wedding venues.
Famous for runaway weddings, this is a beautiful village to stop by. There are dog friendly cafes, gift shops, toilets-which are beautiful, by the way, and photo worthy surroundings! We were on a group tour with a mandatory stop here. There's ample parking space of course.

Really nice place to visit just into Scotland. The restaurant was tidy and tables cleared quickly. The coffee was very good . Went into the blacksmith museum and enjoyed looking at the history of the place. The food hall very good with a few items of food I haven't seen before.

Got married in there a week ago! Beautiful place filled with character and history. Lots of cool souvenirs in the shop (husband bought the anvil jumper, I bought lots of things like magnets, mini whiskeys, Christmas decorations etc) the museum was very informative and interesting, there was a cute wall to put your story on! Staff very lovely and if you stay at one of their hotels you get 10% off (excluding alcohol) You'll always see someone getting married there. The Thursday we arrived we witnessed 4 during our visit. Then on or day I saw two others. Be warned if you get married here you may have tourists snapping shots of you! (Was a very surreal feeling but I didn't mind, they were all so sweet giving compliments)

We had our vowel renewal here and what a beautiful experience we had! The staff were amazing. Everything was absolutely perfect. Highly recommended. We had Chloe as our photographer what a gem she was. Made me feel comfortable considering I hate photos of myself! She was funny and couldn’t be happier with our pictures! Highly recommend having your ceremony here it’s stunning

Even though I really enjoyed going to Gretna, I felt it had changed so much. It's a beautiful place to visit but it's got very commercialised. That being said it still holds a big place in my heart.
Marlene P — Google review
A charming and historic spot that oozes romance! Famous for runaway weddings since the 1700s, the Blacksmith’s Shop is packed with character and fascinating exhibits. The museum tells the stories of eloping couples beautifully, and the setting feels like stepping back in time. Even if you’re not tying the knot, it’s worth a visit for the history, lovely gift shop, and cosy café. Staff are friendly and happy to share the legends of the place. A must-stop if you’re anywhere near the Scotland–England border. I also recommend bringing a lock to put on the ‘LOVE’ sign! We bought one from the gift shop and wrote our initials on it.
Liam D — Google review
We must have hit on a quiet time to visit. Last time we visited the place was very busy. It was more enjoyable being able to amble around the site. I didn't realise couples actually get married here. We saw at least three couples set to get hitched. We visited the cafe which had a very tasty selection of varying foods on offer. My better half praised how tasty the Scotch broth was. We had a look in the souvenir shop and again we were met with an array of varying gifts. The Foodhall likewise, was very well stocked and the Shortbread shop offered many styles of shortbread. We were lucky with the weather as it was sunny. We spent a very pleasant couple of hours on site.
Tommy S — Google review
I only came to know this place while returning from Edinburgh. It is one of Scotland’s most famous and romantic destinations, renowned for its rich history of runaway weddings. Located just across the English border, it became legendary in the 18th century when young couples, often under the age of 18; fled here to marry freely. Under Scottish law, they could wed without parental consent, and the English authorities had no power to stop them. The village’s famous Blacksmith’s Shop, where these marriages were performed over the anvil, remains a symbol of love, freedom, and timeless romance- making Gretna Green a must-visit for history and heart alike.

Subway is a casual fast food chain that offers customizable sandwiches and salads, with a focus on healthy options. Regardless of the location, Subway guarantees a foot long or six-inch sandwich filled with various delicious choices. The staff at Subway stores are known for their cheerful demeanor and welcoming approach, which enhances the overall dining experience. In terms of taste and satisfaction, Subway's food is exceptional and hard to beat as a quick snack option.
Visited this store Saturday 1st November around 2.30pm, and got to say that the 3 members of staff were a brilliant team, very busy but they were well organised, polite and friendly to every customer. I ordered a vegan sandwich and they did everything correct in regards to allergies. A great Subway experience!

Never again. Food good - service horrendous. Too busy talking to a friend in the queue to ask what I wanted on my sandwich. Asked for 2 caramel lattes and a normal latte. 1 drink came half way through our food. Asked is that a caramel one told no normal. 2 more came - are these the caramel - no we don’t sell caramel - but that is what I asked for - well we don’t sell it. 1st coffee that came was awful. Looked totally different to the other coffees. Took it back and said this is not a latte or the same - sorry we don’t sell latte - it’s all the same - will be giving this a wide berth next time. Service and attitude shocking.

Staff started throwing equipment around once I advised she has used a meat knife to cut up a vegetarian option. Rude customer service.

Popped in for a subway and despite there being no customers in when we arrived the assistant couldn’t have been more disinterested. Felt like we were a bother and the server was unhelpful and abrupt. Obviously didn’t want to be there which is a poor reflection on the business!

Just want to say a big thanks to the staff on 26 August 2024. They had closed as it was 6 pm already but still managed to served us as with 3 sandwiches as we were hungry and tired. Thank you so much guys. Relished our dinner 😋👍🏼

Went on the 19th of August... the 5 girls that were behind the counter seemed more interested in flirting with one young lad... it took 4 of them to pay one order and when we asked for a veggie pattie was told I don't think we do them but I'll check... not overly impressed by any rate

Sandwiches just ok . Slightly overheated, burnt and hard on some bits. Had Waffle chips which were actually not edible, soggy and some green bits . Expensive . Coffee machine not working. Asked for Regular Coke but when I got to machine only Diet available! Staff member ok , seem no joy or heart in their work though . I know it might only be a fast food takeaway but still have some passion in your work . Can't say we will rush back . Disappointed

The Gretna Inn is a cozy hotel with comfortable rooms and a pleasant patio lounge. It also boasts a restaurant/pub that includes a game room for entertainment. The staff is excellent, providing friendly service to guests. The location is lovely and has been enjoyed by many visitors. While the rooms may be basic, they are tidy and offer good comfort with great pillows. Some guests from France found it amusing to figure out how the lights and shower operated, but overall, the amenities were satisfactory.
Stopped for dinner on our way travelling from Yorkshire to Glasgow. The food & service were top notch. Family friendly too. My youngest wanted just custard for pudding & they happily accommodated her wish.

The recommendation was spot on. If your guesthouse isn't recommending this place for food then there are ulterior forces at work. The food was well priced, well made and delivered with a smile, what more can be asked. It's proper pub with a Tap room (this includes Tap room customers. You may be able to hear them), do not be alarmed, relish in finding the place where locals drink.
Mat C — Google review
Such a great restaurant and inn! Food was lovely, traditional pub food. The owners were so friendly and kind and very personable. Servers were great, and the atmosphere was very quaint and cozy. Location is perfect, as there is plenty of parking due to the outlets across the way, in addition to the in parking lot. In conclusion, this place should be on your list of your planning to go to gretna, or traveling through on your way to Scotland.

Wee stop off on the way home. Served by lovely lady, very cheery. Prices were great. There were 4 of us. If back in the area would definitely visit again.

We called for a bite to eat after visiting the Devils Porridge museum. Very friendly staff and lovely food. Good sized portions at an excellent price and served ith a smile. We will come again if we are in the area. Much preferred than your large chain restaurants. The outside is beautiful and in full bloom, the inside is of a traditional pub with many original features.

Fantastic family dog friendly pub that serves excellent food. Called in on way to Ayrshire from Durham. Very welcoming lovely flower display around main enternace. Staff were lovely and the food was amazing. Husband tried the blue cheese burger which he said wasgabtatsix and very strong. I had the steak pie and I'd definately recommend, they even pandered to my son by serving him and adult size portion of the kids meal. Absolutely fantastic little place.

Shout out to Angela who really looked after us making the evening enjoyable. Food was great had the steak special fantastic value. Will definitely be back

This review is for the food, the woman who served me was lovely. "Chicken curry" was horrendous, like a £1 microwave meal from Farmfoods with a horrible tasting stale poppadom. 3 out 4 meals had cold chips and the fish was dry and overcooked. All round terrible and waste of money.

Nestled in a prime location near the highlands and modern amenities, the Old Toll Bar Cafe is a delightful stop for anyone exploring the area. This charming cafe offers an enticing selection of sandwiches, cakes, traybakes, and scones, all complemented by unlimited tea or coffee. For those looking to celebrate something special, you can even request a bottle of prosecco to elevate your experience!
Called on our way past Gretna - minutes from motorway. Food and service excellent. Great value too. So impressed, we made sure we called in on our way back South and this time added some Victoria sponge cake for good measure. 2 breakfasts, 2 teas and a slice of cake for £22 - bargain. Well worth the 1 mile or so journey from the Blacksmiths shop if you're on the tourist trail. We had no problem parking motorhome - loads of space.
Ian M — Google review
The cafe is now our regular stop off on the way to Scotland; much better than the services. The food has always been to a good standard, and we have ordered a variety of food over the years from sumptuous full breakfast, to light bite sandwiches. The coffee is great and they also do an amazing range in cakes, something to take for the journey. There is ample parking. The cafe is well laid out very clean with nice comfortable seating inside and some out It does get very busy at times particularly over bank holidays, but even then the wait is not too long.
Miles H — Google review
A large car park at the rear of the premises and an area for dog walking in the field behind. The young lady who greeted us let us choose our table and was polite, friendly, and attentive. A good choice of food and drink on the menu. My cooked breakfast was delicious and good value for money. We would definitely visit if in the area again.

Must be the third time we have been here. Food is excellent and such good value for money, far better than the overpriced stuff at Gretna gatway
Chris L — Google review
Visited for brunch a couple of weeks ago with family. The cafe is relatively large inside but was very quiet when we arrived. Menu is limited and it took 45 minutes from ordering to receive our food with no explanation or acknowledgement from the 2 staff working there. I ordered the macaroni which tasted like it came out a packet and reheated. It's a shame as there are limited options for breakfast/brunch in the area but the cafe is understaffed, and the food is below average. The young server was friendly but very easily flustered and couldn't cope with dealing with more than 3 tables at a time. The chef was also helping with serving by bringing the food out but she wasn't friendly at all. When staying in Gretna, I would rather travel a distance than visit here again.
K ( — Google review
Come here if you want to wait 30 mins for a cheap tasting, cold breakfast. cakes looked good but by this point was annoyed
Foodie E — Google review
Arrived at 1pm, quite busy but no problem getting a table, although all free tables needed cleared and wiped. Sat for ages waiting to give order. I ended up clearing the table myself and finding a waitress and ordering. Table was never wiped in fact didn't see any tables being wiped. Went to pay and was made to wait while one waitress made and took coffees to guests, another just walked away and the chef put salad and crisps onto 2 plates. Food was fine but we won't be going back.

Pizza Express is a popular pizza chain known for its relaxed ambiance and chefs wearing striped t-shirts, who skillfully toss handmade pizzas. Despite being busy, the staff courteously warned of potential delays in service. The welcoming atmosphere and prompt drinks service added to the positive experience. The pizzas arrived promptly and were cooked to perfection. Although it is a chain restaurant, Pizza Express excels at what it offers.
Me and my Wife had a lovely meal here today. The food was outstanding, even better than it had been on previous visits. The staff are so welcoming and attentive, Helen was wonderful as always and I was sure to get everyone else's names too because they all gave fantastic service; thanks Pati, Filip, Eva, Marcus and Keith, great stuff!

Heavenly Romana pizza with hot honey, nduja, pepperoni, red chillies and cheese. Lovely service from our waiter (and all the other staff actually). Great that they have baby changing in the gents as well as the ladies. Well done Pizza Express!
Rachel W — Google review
Genuinely just walked out of here astounded. Husband had the absolute worst lasagna we’ve ever tasted, worse than an economy supermarket ready meal. We only stopped here as we live 10 mins away and couldn’t be bothered to cook tonight. I didn’t add gratuity, the chairs were filthy, crumbs and debris along the window ledge, high chair was also dirty. The waitress that served us didn’t seem happy I didn’t add gratuity but then as my baby and husband left out the door, I was cornered by an older American woman and it was just absolutely astounding that this is normal practice for pizza express?! Asking me if my meal was in fact okay. Just really disgusting behaviour making a point to accost patrons in such a manner that is clearly to try shame them or intimidate them because they didn’t add gratuity. Won’t be going here again, food is sub par and possibly the most bonkers experience I’ve ever had with staff. My pal had told me how bad it was here a few months ago but didn’t think much of it. We were Asked twice about the food but genuinely just couldn’t be bothered to say it was bad because I just wanted to leave. Which honestly would have been really clear to the staff but to wait till I was ALONE to corner me is just crass.

David was so friendly and helpful. Really funny too! The food was great, just overall a superb experience! Came 2 weeks ago and back again tonight for more! We have some dietary requirements in the group and the staff are never shy at offering to help accommodate for us. Thanks again for another great experience guys!

I visited around lunchtime yesterday and I was served by a girl called Alana that had a brilliant personality and a lovely smile on her face. She went through the menu letting us know what was good to have as we haven’t been to Pizza Express in a while. The food was pretty good for the price and I would come again if that’s the type of service you get.😊

Visited with my guest on Sunday evening and was impressed with the experience. Free parking and warm friendly welcome. The restaurant was clean including the floor! The menu offers a good choice of pizza and pasta. We had pizza which was tasty and presented nicely. I’m Coeliac so aware before choosing somewhere to eat. The menu offered a selection of gluten free options, and the staff were fully aware of gluten free requirements. I had confidence in the restaurant’s responsibility. We greeted by a friendly, hospitality professional – Zuza. We were impressed by Pizza Express’s commitment and investment to staff development. It was demonstrated in the special touches which achieve exceptional customer service.

Costa Coffee is a self-service coffee chain that offers a variety of hot beverages, chilled refreshments, tasty snacks, and sandwiches. The staff is friendly and the service is reasonably fast, despite the shop being quite busy. They also serve M&S food. The cleanliness of the tables could be improved, but it seems they were overwhelmed with customers at the time. The toilets are clean and have a pleasant smell due to wall-mounted air fresheners placed high up.
A lovely Costa to have break with a snack and a drink whilst shopping at the outlet.

Stopped in here for a coffee whilst charging my car. I dropped my elderly grandmother at the door and then went to charge the car. The staff were amazing. They genuinely cared for my grandmother whilst I was away. They went over and above, thank you!

Very busy. Toilets inside. Tables inside and out. 20 minute queue for basic food and drinks. Breakfast roll was a little dry. They had run out of Ruby hot chocolate, and squirty cream, and we only asked for 3 things!! Its ok but service needs to be better. If you're a busy place you need to prepare for this beforehand.

Nice and spacious with a fair bit of sitting area. A very busy store and the staff do work quickly to serve the customers. Other than that, it's a fairly standard Costa chain; coffee, tea, cakes, muffins, sandwiches etc.

Was absolutely jam packed due to comicon being on but it was great as all the staff were dressed up. The coffee mug was huge! The pastries nice and the toasty was okay too. Good service and they did well to keep on top of cleaning up after folks. Considering how busy it was. I would go again.

Quieter morning at the Gretna Green Starbucks, and everything was spot on. Our coffees were made quickly and just right, but what really stood out was the service. Solway Pizzeria is located on the north shore of the Solway, an area with a rich historical background. It's situated in Gretna, which was once a significant site for cordite production and also witnessed Britain's worst rail disaster. Despite its somber history, Solway Pizzeria offers a bright spot for visitors and locals alike.
After driving 3 hours to Gretna from Yorkshire, I was shattered and got into me hotel room. From there it was 10:15 at night and every takeaway was shut, rubbish for a Friday night.... but Solway Pizzeria was the only place open so thought I'd give it a go! Brilliant service to my hotel with delivery in about 30 minutes, the food was lovely quality for a takeaway too, the chips were proper chips!! Not nasty oily takeaway ones! The pizza was beautiful and well made and the burgers were great. After a long drive and everywhere shut can't thank Solway Pizzeria enough for the service!

I feel duped.. I find it hard to believe that this places gets the reviews it does. We got chips from here - wouldn't chance anything else. From the outside the place just looks like a shed. Inside looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. Dirt and grease on the walls, bits of food on the floor and the pizza ovens looked like they hadn't been cleaned. Whilst making someone else's pizza, the guy making it was just burping away and coughing without covering his mouth. The chips... They were just a frozen bag of chips chucked in. The chips had wee black dots all over them, pretty sure that indicates the oil hasn't been changed in quite a while... They went straight in the bin 🤢 I definitely wouldn't recommend eating from this place, if you're thinking about it go and visit for yourself.

The menu caters to various dietary needs with plenty of options for all ages. The reasonably priced food is presented impeccably and delivered promptly, ensuring great value for money. Additionally, the attentive staff maintains a clean and tidy environment, swiftly clearing tables for the next guests.
The menu has plenty of choice for young and old, as well as those with certain dietary restrictions. The food is reasonably priced and presentation is of a high standard. The food itself is good value for money, is quickly delivered to you and tastes great. They are very efficient at making sure the place is clean and tidy, with tables being cleared quick enough too

If I could give zero stars I would. Cold food, bacon, lorne sausage over cooked and dry and as for the tattie scone I couldn't get the fork in to it not cut it with a knife. Avoid at all costs

Had some panini's here. They were 'ok' but very basic and took ages to prepare and served with school dinner type chips. Food is overpriced for what it is. Service was appalling. Not rude but just no care, no please or thank you. The restaurant itself was busy and noisy.
Alan F — Google review
I travelled a fair distance to use the restaurant and unfortunately I was left disappointed. I ordered a cheese toastie for my partner. I was informed it was cheese and ham, I explained my partner didn't eat ham and asked if they could please remove the ham. Before heating. the young lady serving refused and told me to remove it myself. I was shocked at this, certainly didn't expect that reply. I also ordered a coffee which was not the warmest I also had chips egg and cold meat which was acceptable.

food is nice and service swift. Table was wiped clean and staff are always available to help. the kids 'meal deal' (with drink) was slightly confusing but I think this similar everywhere. being greeted and seated is always better than having to find a seat and secure it while you're off selecting food.
David P — Google review
This is a good place for a quick bite. The food can be nice but our food was nothing to shout about. The staff was really friendly and were great with the kids. The girl toilets were stinking of urine. It is also expensive.
Kirkpatrick J — Google review
Arrived just before 11am. Not busy. Scant availability of breakfast items. Ordered crispy bacon roll which they were going to cook. It arrived and was not properly cooked. Maybe they are economising on electricity. Had to request a nuking in the microwave to ensure no bacteria. The roll was covered with a yellow spread probably some kind of seed oil blend. Gives new meaning to greasy spoon cafe. Not value for money. One star is overly generous. Give this place a miss.
Helena I — Google review
The food is OK... stick to the simple stuff that is difficult to get wrong, like chips maybe. Some lovely people serving, the place is clean and well looked after, but we have yet to have an enjoyable meal. (Several attempts have been made) This time we had the soup and it tasted so artificial it was verging on the unpleasant, the baguettes were pale, slightly undercooked and not the freshest. The coffee was bitter, and lukewarm so by the time we had eaten the soup it was almost cold. Also...They never advertise what the soup of the day is before you choose whether you want a sandwich or toastie so you either have to go back to the end of the queue if you don't happen to like the sound of the soup, or you have to push ahead between the queue to ask, leaving someone to keep your place in the queue at the sandwichdisplay... such a 'simple to solve' issue if someone could be bothered to consider the customer experience. Just stick a sign at the start... The name 'Village' gives the impression you might get something closer to a home cooked meal, maybe even local produce, but you would unfortunately be mistaken. The food is akin to hospital grade. (Edible but questionable nutrition where flavour is sacrificed for volume), in fact I have had better food in hospital compared to this last meal. We won't be back any time soon I'm afraid.

Love this store! even though it looked busy the staff were friendly and got my meal ready quickly. the restaurant was clean I managed to grab a table by the window. My XXL bacon 🥓🍔 and fries 🍟 were hot 🔥 and the cola 🧋was 🧊 cold and refreshing 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

They ran out of Burgers & said 10 mins before they are able to serve them. I asked for a refund - 20 mins later the transaction still not refunded & I am still waiting for them to sort this mess out! They could not find my transaction so I had to go into my Banking App. Got to be honest Terrible Terrible Terrible & won't go back again. Sorry but the whole situation was a disaster from start to end & Burger King should be ashamed of this. I think Burger King needs to take a good long look at their processes & perhaps take a leaf out of McDonalds! Amateurs at best but truly incompetent. A burger shop running out of burgers WOW 😳
Philip D — Google review
Food was lukewarm at best, worst part was the sharer box, one single rock solid chicken nugget and a floppy onion ring mixed with about 12 chicken fries that were stale and sauce that was ordered not included. I would go into further detail but I'll save my words on how awful this branch is as I've already wasted enough time and money. Just go to the Burger king less than a mile away passed Gretna Green off the A74. Cannot recommend avoiding this one enough!

Maxine ordering if course, which is painful, the person next to me gave up and left. We got fries for the kids but they were stale and the kids wouldn’t eat them. The plant burger was nice.

Tried plant burger which was very tasty. Looked like meat and had a softer consistency. Not chewy like meat. Loved the taste Service was friendly and warm. Love it when staff chat especially when you are on your own. Brightened my day. Great experience well done.

First time visiting this Burger King today. I will definitely be back. Dean was very polite and got my order promptly. Food was hot and delicious.

Looking for “fast food”? Look elsewhere… Burger King should be a welcome new food place at Caledonia Park but we’ve left severely disappointed for our first visit… My partner needed a snack and a drink so we used the self serve machines to order a portion of fries and a Coke Zero. 22 minutes later we finally got our order, I understand that the orders might well be processed in order, if that’s the case then more staff are needed or small orders should be prioritised to get them out faster. Yes, the place was busy but for a chain as large as Burger King, they should be able to handle continuous orders - god knows how they function during peak hours. There was also overflowing bins, rubbish on the floor and empty tables with food left on them. I don’t think I’ll come back here until some major improvements have been made.

KFC Gretna Green Services is a renowned restaurant chain that has been serving up delicious fried chicken and combo meals since 1952. With a commitment to excellence and a tradition of delivering top-quality food, KFC offers a Finger Lickin' Good experience for those seeking fast food in the area. While some visitors were initially hesitant due to mixed reviews, they were pleasantly surprised by the gastronomic experience at this location.
Nobody knows CHICKEN now! It’s soon been renamed in textbooks as KFC! We have a bunch of kids in queue who didn’t utter the word CHICKEN! My dear Chicken 🐔 you are dead and KFC makes you immortal! 😎

Hadn't been in a KFC in a while, we're not eating fast food often. Driving south on the A74 we passed the Gretna Green Service area, having a KFC. So we headed in. We've been here before, but that was 10 years ago. Wasn't that busy back then. But this time around the place was completely packed. And the carpark completely full! Parked down at the Motel instead, which was empty. The Service area has a good number of shops and fast-food restaurants. We ordered our meal easy by touchscreen. Even though very busy our order came pretty quickly. There's plenty of seating inside. And dogs are welcome as well. Ordered a bucket of chicken pieces (mixed) and a Zinger Burger. Some Coke with. Prices were fair and staff did good work. The fried chicken was hot, crispy and well seasoned. Nice and tasty pieces. The Burger was very good as well. Also hot and crispy and with the hot'n'spicy sauce well seasoned. Looked good - tasted good. Sadly not every KFC is up to the standards. But the good news: This one is! A very enjoyable lunch.
Alex H — Google review
The decision taken to dine at Gretna services KFC was taken with much trepidation, the reviews did not fill me with much confidence. However I was presently surprised by my gastronomic experince. Ordering was a relatively easy process however the screen for ordering was angled in such a way that viewing the items on screen was difficult. Also the whole process could do with some sort of review as it is impossible to customise your order meaning my associate had to join the que to ensure his fillet burger did not come with mayonnaise on it. The service was first class. My additional salt request did not fall on deaf ears and I was immediately supplied with the additional sachet of granuals I requested. The food was top notch . Succulent tasty chicken fillets , hot crisp fries and delicious gravy. The gravy fill level was 15mm from lid level. However this is only a minor criticism. As an experienced KFC frequenter I would highly recommend a visit to this particular establishment and I'm sure somewhere in the ether the colonel is nodding his head in agreement with me.
Andy D — Google review
Visited this KFC outlet. They appeared to be short staffed as it was only after asking a member of staff to assist me with ordering that was I able to place my order without using the touch screen device which I detest. The food was slow to be prepared and the chicken portions were very small. Also the lack of variety of drinks on offer is very disappointing. Not everyone wants diet drinks. Access is wheelchair friendly and there is a decent accessible toilet.

If you like chocolate you will love this place, there is so much choice. There are plenty deals to tempt you to spend more than you were planning. One thing was I thought the staff were not really interested, they didn't engage at all. You would think this would be a great place to work. Only four stars due to indifferent staff.

Lovely hotel cannot fault the hotel itself. Went for a meal in their restaurant and were given a menu and a festive menus consisting of starter, main, dessert and coffee with mints all for £19.99. Brilliant we thought we will have that sounds reasonable. No! We ate the starter and main and were asked if we wanted dessert. Thought that was odd as the original menu didn’t come back to us, so we asked if this was included in the special menu. Waitress said no and didn’t know what we were talking about. Went to pay and asked again about this special menu and they said they’d checked all the menus and there was nothing about a set menu. Obvious they had removed it, so won’t be staying there again. The only helpful staff was the girl on reception.update! !!next morning we’re given some money back for the mix up so all was well. Thank you so much and we will be back. 5 stars 🌟 now from us. Merry Xmas and a happy new year xx

Stayed over for our wedding day and booked an evening meal in the restaurant. On arrival we found that our booking was now in the bar as a hen party of roughly 150 had booked the restaurant/function room. Made to feel second rate citizens whilst the hen party took over both rooms. Blaring music all night ruined our day. All could have been avoided if they told us of this event before we arrived. We'd have booked somewhere else. Not happy.

Ordered a American Hot pizza to collect. Was part of the deals they had on. Pizza lot bigger than expected for the price I paid. Was well cooked and very tasty. Great dough base. Not a fan of their garlic and herb dip though, nowhere near as nice as Dominos. Great Value

Ordered here three time. No problems at all the first 2 and was very happy with my food. The third time was a disaster. One of the staff was very accusatory saying they have had problems with my address 3 times and this wasn’t the case as the last two pizzas were delivered with no problems. Accused me of not answering my door when the last two times the buzzer was rang with no problems. Said they were going to make a new pizza after an mis-delivery but when the pizza arrived it was cold and chewy. Forgot a bottle of orange on the order also, which had to be delivered 15mins after the pizza was delivered. Disgusting customer service after I was very happy the first two times

We usually go dominos (pure convenience for parking) but papa johns had a half and half deal with free delivery and it was outstanding. Not only do dominos not do the half and half pizza (2 different choices of toppings on each half of the pizza) but the pizza itself was outstanding. Delivered hot, amazing crunchy crust with soft pillowy dough inside but the toppings were rich and piping hot. We won’t be going dominos from now on, papa johns pizza are just better.

Great welcome, prompt service and drinks straight to the table. Traditional Indian music adds to a really nice atmosphere. Ordered 4 poppadoms, came quickly and poppadoms and dips were very good. Starters.. Lamb chops were the best I've ever had!...and I've had a lot. Chana Chat flavours were incredible. Awaiting mains... South Indian Garlic and Chilli - This was incredible, I'm honestly am lost for words. Got to be one of the best curries I've ever had, all the flavours and spices are so cooked in, it tastes like the spices have been cooking on low for 3 days! Lamb so tender, it's a solid 10. Beguna Ghost - Recommended by the owner this again was incredible. The flavours just scream out. One of the top 5 curries I've ever had... The pilau rice is so fragrant and light, it tastes like a complex biryani again the flavours are so deep. I know this is starting to sound like a paid review but I promise it's not. The food here is remarkable. It's so good that we live over 2 hours away but will definitely be back.

Pleasantly suprised. The order was wrong when the takeaway arrived, receiving no sauce with our biryani. Instead we got a rogue Beguna Gosht that we hadnt ordered - which turned out to be the highlight of the meal, gorgeous, will definately order this ( again? ). On a negative despite this, and my ordred meal both being marked with 2 chilis, medium, there was no heat at all, zero, and I would have appreciated a handfull more chilis in my dishes. And a touch of fresh coriander would have improved the already good experience.

We got a deal for dinner, bed and breakfast on living social for this hotel, the hotel was spotless, rooms are spacious and the staff were friendly. If you required more tea bags for normal tea you just asked and they gave you more. In the deal we got the dinner included 2 course I had the steak which was cooked to the way you liked it this came with a mushroom and chips, I had chocolate cake and ice cream for my pudding which was nice. My boyfriend had potato skins to start with which was just enough and macaroni cheese with garlic bread and chips but does come with the option of salad. After dinner you can sit in the nice relaxed bar area and chill out. The breakfast is buffet style and self service, you have to make your own tea and coffee and toast.

An absolutely stunning find. We were a party of 30 cyclists and they couldn't do enough for us. We had booked out the whole hotel with another 4 others staying in another hotel, they were happy to provide dinner for everyone. Right from the start they were very quick to respond to emails if we had any queries. The hotel were more than happy to allow us to store our bikes in one of their function rooms. Dinner and breakfast were included in our package and certainly worth the cost. We arranged to leave our vehicles in their car park until our return. We rode over to the east coast staying overnight before returning to Gretna the next day. The whole staff were incredible, the rooms were large and furnished in a period style. I was a guest at my Sister's wedding at the Gretna Chase. The wedding took place at Anvil hall which was amazing. We were supposed to be having the reception at the chase but because there was only eight people we was told it was going to be in the bar. However, our meal ,drinks and staff experience on the Thursday evening had the groom finding a new venue for the Friday wedding breakfast. The prawn cocktail had the most weird taste and no bread and butter came with it. When we asked for some we got one slice on a plate and no butter. The beer was off and 2 pints were chucked down the sink with no apology or an offer of a replacement. The general attitude of the staff was they had no people skills. The general consensus of the wedding party ,was on such a special occasion the staff did not go above and beyond to make it a special day. We asked if we could have a knife and some plates for some cake. We could only have it in the bedroom we was told, even though we had spent over 40 pounds at the bar. Very disappointed

The room was beautiful but you need a step ladder to get into the bed lol easy parking a really lovely place to stay but. When you was to eat there it's in the bar area and they have gotten a proper dining room but only use it for breakfast?? So if they have no room they place you on a table out in where you check-in and out Not good for a high standard castle hotel

Such a beautiful place so well appointed just over the scottish border in England. Amazing rooms with lots of space and they thought of everything. Finally a shower we can fit into. Restaurant was great, such a choice of great food. Wonderful service and the decor for rooms and hotel is just beautiful. My new saying is ........ Finally found the best hotel in Scotland in England....... Cant recommend it enough. 10 out of 10. Also a special recommendation to a wonderful bar attendant and the best service Preet. We were invited to a wedding here and thought everything was superb! Staff were extremely helpful, organisation and service were excellent and the food was lovely. Had a great time! We only saw a couple of rooms our family were staying in, including the Bridal Suite and they looked great.

Sandwich shop
Nestled in the heart of Gretna, The Baguette Bar is a delightful spot that promises a satisfying culinary experience. With an array of tasty sandwiches and wraps, including the standout coronation chicken baguette, it’s perfect for those seeking a quick yet delicious lunch. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, reminiscent of a family-run establishment where customer service shines. Fresh ingredients are prioritized here, with locally sourced options like Cumberland sausage rings adding to its charm.
Festive Yorkie Wrap - unbelievably good. Awesome value for money with high quality ingredients used.

We came here a couple of weeks ago after the new ownership take over. We didn't think much of the fella who was running it before (he used mostly bought-in produce) but we thought with it being taken over it might be better than before but we were seriously dissapointed... The staff didn't seem to know their arse from their elbow, with a lot of shouting and confusion to and from the kitchen. The big woman who served us was polite but extremely loud and very Peggy Mitchell, hollering questions from the till area to the kitchen at the top of her big lungs. I had a splitting headache at the time and I thought personally, it was just massively unprofessional, irritating and unnecessary. Imagine opening your big mouth and bombing questions across a small shop with customers standing in front of you. Goodness me, shut up! And the service was slow.... SLOW! The food is as you'd expect from a gaggle of mid-60's white women; Bland, underseasoned, very basic and nothing to shout about. If you were starving and it was the only option then fine, but let's be real, this place is by no means exceptional. It's just a very bog-standard & mediocre baguette shop with a load of random specials that don't seem to make any sense, but then I suppose I would expect that of the age group who are running this buisness now... I mean, why do they have Italian lasagne, Mexican Chilli, Indian Curry and American burgers on all at the same time some days? It just doesn't make any sense. Pick a lane with your menu and stay in it. A friend of mine who came in with me ordered the chilli special and she said it tasted nothing like traditional chilli. The food is like dinner lady food to be honest. I'm so surprised to see this buisness being hyped up the way it is. Does anyone have tastebuds in Gretna or what? Anyway, It wasn't for me. I personally wouldn't go back. Work on your buisness model and tell that woman to stop shouting when customers come in!

Gretna’s hidden gem, an absolute delight with excellent customer service. The cumberland sausage rings are amazing and I was assured they were locally sourced and sure enough they are! Ogilvies butchers as it were…. Good fast food and good value which can all appreciate right now. I Will definitely be back I can assure you. Worth nipping away from the gateway for.

Finally went to the Baguette Bar!!! I am sorry I didn't go sooner. Very tasty sandwiches and wraps. Many options to choose from. I had the coronation chicken on a fresh baked baguette, very good. Reasonable prices, I paid £3.20 for my sandwich. A really good option for a quick lunch in Gretna!!! They are not open everyday so check first. I will be back many times I'm sure.

We had 2 wonderful baguettes and 2 fabulous children meals today, food was amazing for all of us, we also took away a pot of coleslaw which was sooo good with our dinner. The staff were super lovely too. I would give more stars if I could.

Really nice little sandwich / snack bar tucked away in Gretna. Good food, friendly staff and very competitive prices. Well worth a visit and certainly worth getting away from the big chains that dominate the nearby Gretna Gateway outlet village and popping down the road to support this small local business.
