We were drawn in by the beautiful design and atmosphere, and it completely lived up to our first impression! The food was amazing, every dish was great, but the lamb was truly exceptional. There were plenty of vegetarian options and even some vegan ones, all clearly marked on the menu. I also loved that each dish mentioned how many kilometers away it was first created – such a thoughtful touch. The wine was excellent, and although there was a small mix-up at first with our waiter, the service was great afterwards. We even got complimentary dessert and an aperitif. For such an upscale place, the prices were surprisingly fair, about €72 for a full meal, four glasses of wine, and sparkling water. Highly recommended!

We visited this restaurant back in June, and only now are we finally writing the review — but it truly deserves it! This is such a wonderful place with a very pleasant atmosphere and absolutely delicious, authentic Cretan cuisine. The flavors were simply incredible. Our waiter recommended a local wine that turned out to be the best we tasted during our entire stay in Crete - we even searched for it everywhere afterwards to take some home. That’s how good it was! The hospitality was outstanding: we were even treated to a complimentary dessert and raki. A special thank you to our amazing waiter, Kosmos, who made the experience unforgettable. If we ever return to Crete, we will definitely come back to Heraklion just to visit this restaurant again. Highly recommended!

Went here in September with a group of friends for lunch. We did not have a reservation, but luckily there was a table available although the place was packed with people. Everything about our meal there was superlative, significantly surpassing any expectations we had. It is not even just about the food - it is an entire experience - from the restaurant design, smelling incense in the air, being introduced to hand washing rituals with a traditional herbal concoction. I simply loved every second spent at Peskesi. The service was absolutely impecable and don't get me started about the food. It's authentic Cretan fine dining at incredibly reasonable prices. When we first saw the place, we thought to ourselves that we will never financially recover from this meal, but it was totally not the case. Everything we ate was truly special and well thought through to respect local ingredients and gastronomy. Definitely the best food we had in Crete :)

This restaurant is outstanding in every way. The staff are friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu, happy to accommodate any special requests. The food is incredible - the Dolmadakia were so tasty we couldn’t resist ordering more, and the meat dishes were excellent. The menu is clear and informative, showing the origins of each dish. We had a fantastic experience. definitely a must-visit.

Absolutely amazing experience at Peskesi - we arrived early afternoon as walk ins and were asked if we could wait an hour for a table which we were happy to do! We sat in the shade and were given menus, ordered some lovely wine based on recommendations, and were also given some complimentary cheese, olives, and tomatoes. We were happy to wait and the atmosphere was super calm and tranquil. The menu was really interesting to read as it goes into detail regarding the organic ethos of the restaurant and details how far away the food for each dish travelled to make to from farm to plate. A really good range of price points too! We ordered 4 starters and 2 mains and honestly for 3 that was too much, we were stuffed but very happy! The salads were beautiful, so fresh and light. The lamb just completely fell apart and the rice was amazing, while the chicken was moist, flavoursome, and hearty. Our selection of starters were all fantastic: baked potatoes with cheese, crispy cheese rolls with fig jam, and marinated anchovies - all beautiful. The staff were fantastic (especially the LFC supporting waiter), super attentive and made our experience absolutely gorgeous. The complimentary bread and beetroot dip was delicious, as was the rose raki and sweet treat at the end. Would highly recommend while in Crete!!!

Tried "Local lamb with traditional yoghurt". It was amazing. The surrounding rice had absorbed all the broth and the flavor. The staff was very hospitable and took interest in serving me better. The vibe of the ancient building supplemented by music, lighting and aroma was mesmerizing.

This is a greate restaurant, but you can probably tell that by the sheer amount of good reviews. The staff were very kind.We had the pork & goat specials of the day, they were both great, we rather preffered the goat, as the pork was a bit too sweet, seemed like it was missing some acidity. They also offered us a starter and a dessert on the house, both were good. Keep in mind that you should make a reservation before hand, or they will offer to make one for you when you get to the restaurant, we went there at about 16:00 and they had the first available table at 17:30. Overall highly recommend this spot.

We wanted something traditional and off the beaten track (always the best places), and sure enough, that is what we found. An absolute gem of a restaurant, a short walk out of Heraklion City centre. As you walk along the suburban, residential street, you begin to think you’ve made a wrong turn. But keep on going and then appears a set of stairs. Probably not for the disabled, but guess you can’t have it all. At the top, is a beautifully laid out, coveted terrace, with an assortment of plants and beautiful view. We were immediately greeted with the warmest of welcomes and seated straight away. After perusing the drinks menu, we were recommended the house white wine, which is made in house. I have to say, it’s the best white wine I’ve had in Greece, with floral notes and a hint of lemon and pepper. At €6.90 for half a litre, you just can’t argue at the value. The menu is varied and, although I’m not a fan of menu pictures, on this menu, they truly assist with your choices as they are numbered and do show you exactly what you are about to receive. We selected the greek salad, souvlaki and goat to share between. A platter of bread, black olive tapenade and tomatoes arrived. Following came the meal and what a meal it was. The Greek salad was plentiful, tasty and complemented everything on the plate. The goat in tomato sauce, what can I say? If you’re not a fan of bones, then this isn’t the dish for you, but I don’t mind at all. The goat just fell off the bone. The tomato sauce, rich and so full of flavour, without overpowering the taste of the goat. Souvlaki is something I haven’t tried before, so was keen to give it a go. Again, the meat was tender and flavoured with aromatic spices and went so well with all the other dishes we had ordered. If I was to have it again, and this is just my personal choice, I would ask for no chips. For me, you just didn’t need them with all the other flavours and textures. Another half lite of the homemade wine was ordered. (Yes, it was that good!!) our waiter was attentive, but not in your face. After finishing the main course, we debated if there was enough room for dessert. No need to debate, as before we knew it, a plate of fresh watermelon, the most moist, light, lemon cake and creamy ice cream was delivered to our table, totally complementary, alongside the obligatory raki. Total price for the whole meal, including wine was €38. Simply the best value for money. We genuinely cannot find fault with here at all and will make it a place to visit again.

This place was very nice and the people very friendly 👨‍🍳 The food is very traditional and you can find some very good and tasty omelets done in a traditional cretan way 🇬🇷🍳 The staff was super friendly and welcoming 🙏🏻 Seems a lot of locals go here and is busy all day around ☀️

In every aspect - Wonderful! The atmosphere is quiet and friendly, easygoing, staff are warm and welcoming. The food is absolutely fantastic, rustic, local flavors and seasoning, made from local ingredients. They also have a badge of honor of sorts, as they are endorsed as “genuine local cuisine” by local authorities. Don’t miss out on the vine leaves (dolomades) and zucchini flowers stuffed with rice, the pork belly and pork sausage, the Greek salad, and the local dessert. Thank you Angelo!

A special place! I was searching for traditional food and am happy I found it tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Best meat pies I’ve had, and love the horta.

I visit this taverna since many years. I’ve been loved their cuisine. Coming back this year I’ve noticed that the level has gone down. Some dishes (the One in photo) is still superbe, but I sadly have to say that I’ve eaten the worst Mousaka tasted in greece. I suggest you to change the Mousaka chef.. it’s terrible

A very positive experience with this restaurant. The staff was very professional and friendly, and they were also very quick with the service. As for the food - it was very tasty. Do consider experimenting with the starter meals as they are fantastic, even if you're not very hungry - take at least one plate of some starter dish and share it with your friends or family. I tried Ntolmadakia - they were absolutely fantastic. Grilled meat of any kind - is very tasty. It can be a bit tough in some pieces but it was really tasty. Salads are also fresh and tasty. We also got raki and some cakes on the house. The prices will surprise you as they are very very reasonable. I would gladly go there again.

We ate here on our first night in Crete and the experience wasn't beaten the whole holiday. Nearly all of the dishes we tried were excellent, we tried a bit of everything for a Greek meze/ tapas sort of experience. We were also recommended some incredible natural white wine which is pictured. The staff were lovely, the setting was lovely. If you're in Heraklion you have to check it out. The craft beer bar across the road is also really good, and the owner of there agreed that Parasties is a special spot. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

The restaurant was lovely. We sat on the terrace overlooking the street and really enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere. The staff was attentive and welcoming, and made sure we had everything we needed. The dishes were very nice — the Greek salad, in particular, was excellent. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would be happy to return.

Went here twice in a week. Modern Greek. We ordered the beetroot Risotto both times. Delicious! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff super knowledgeable about their dishes and wine. The grilled calamari is exceptional. Absolutely loved it.

What can I say. The food was just impeccable. In every dish you could feel the care and pride that went into the creation of the flavors and presentation. We wished we had a second stomach to have a second full meal! If I’m back in Heraklion I’ll definitely visit again!

One of our favorite meals in Greece! Everything was absolutely amazing - The highlights were the starters: a delicate, flavourful raw red snapper plate and a twist on the traditional Cretan pie. Our mains were also great, all very juicy and tender. Thank you to our waiters who were very kind and helpful with their reccomendations!

We had lunch at Parasties during our stay in Heraklion and the experience was flawless in every way. The restaurant has a pleasant location with a relaxing view and a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a peaceful break in the heart of the city. The meat dishes are the real highlight: everything is perfectly cooked, using fresh ingredients and delivering authentic flavors. We tried several grilled specialties, and each one stood out for its taste and quality. The lamb and the ribs, in particular, were incredibly tender and flavorful. The house wine was also excellent – aromatic and well-balanced, pairing beautifully with the meal. The service was impeccable: the staff were friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and always ready to recommend dishes and pairings with genuine professionalism. A restaurant that combines traditional Cretan cuisine, great attention to detail, and warm hospitality. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town.

We stopped in for a snack and everything was excellent. We had a bottle of the house wine which is a grape we weren’t familiar with but very much enjoyed. The bread with olive oil is not to be missed. Everything is so good I wouldn’t hesitate to have anything that appealed on the menu.

I think about this meal at least twice a week. Cretan salad was the best we had on the island. Every dish was perfection. Cannot recommend enough. Service was typical Greek service, they bring your food and leave you alone to enjoy your meal. I prefer this in comparison to the western style of checking in every 5 minutes, they came about twice which was much more appropriate! They also gave us a little dessert and ouzo on the house.

Highly recommended! a charming spot with a great atmosphere. Even when sitting indoors, it feels open and inviting. The staff were very friendly and the food came out quickly. We tried the ribeye with sweet potato cream and mayonnaise cream- simply amazing, perfectly cooked with precise flavors. The overall vibe is fantastic. There was space at lunch, but for dinner it’s best to book ahead.

The food is absolutely outstanding – true works of art, a sea of flavors with silky textures. Compliments to the chefs! The staff are attentive, warm, and have a wonderful sense of humor. Our waiter, Konstantinos, was exceptionally professional. The location may take a little effort to find, but the sound of the carillons will guide you right to it

The food was excellent — the tartare was simply the best! There might be a bit less meat than in a classic tartare, but the combination of flavors was pure magic. All the dishes were very tasty and perfectly balanced, and the presentation was a solid 5 out of 5. We’ll definitely be coming back!

2025.10/Unfortunately the food doesn’t taste such spectacular as it looks like. I’m disappointed to read such good reviews and expect much more, and, at the end, not to be satisfied by the taste of the food. The only tasteful dish was the greek salad, children version. Also after 40 minutes the main dish arrived cold as if the hot table never been invented😬. I hate to choose a place with good ratings and at the end to eat just for hungry reasons😔. Disappointed.

Located in a beautiful alley filled with cafes. Creta cuisine with a modern twist with an amazing amount of wine to choose from. We ordered the sheep spaghetti and the goat ragout and it was incredible! Never had anything like that before.

Amazing Mediterranean seafood cuisine, variety of wines in a very cosy environment. Not crowded at all. Don’t let the fancy appearance discourage you- the spectacular value is worth the little extra money. And don’t forget to take your kids too - there is a big fun outdoor fenced playground right next to the restaurant so you can see them play while enjoying the well deserved dessert 😉 And if the luck is in your favour and the wind is right you might witness the planes landing from the north across the city right above your head - you don’t get that chance to see this up close very often! 👌🏻

Very good and fresh sea food. We had lobster spaghetti and grouper , some nice salad etc. the service was just perfect. The restaurant is next to the airport and playground but it’s ok.

This is one of the best fish restaurant in crete island. You can enjoy very tasty seafood menu. In addition to Greek seafood, you can find sushi menu as well. Staffs are very friendly and professional.

As it says on the tin, it’s a seafood restaurant and from what we ate it was good if a little expensive The wine list has a few not too pricey Crete wines starting at €24 but quickly run up to €68 and for other wines you get into big 3 figure costs , some excessively pricey Very nice place , friendly staff good service. Just don’t go when the wind is from the west as the restaurant is right under the flight path and is very noisy, planes only a couple of hundred metres up as they fly out 😲

Very lovely seafood restaurant if you want quality seafood and nice atmosphere. It is a bit expensive, but good quality. Service very nice and friendly. It can be quite noisy as the planes flys over as the airport is near buy. But definitely worth a visit. Our seafood pasta was delicious.

Lovely place with lovely atmosphere and staff. No annoying music playing - just quietness and a serene view over the harbour. I managed to tap into the neighbouring hotel’s WiFi too. The food was tasty. Good portion size. Price was reasonable. Other dishes were a little bit higher. A few vegetarian-suitable items for the main course, such as the mushroom risotto. More options amongst the starters and appetisers. The waitress surprised me with a free slice of water melon and I assume Grappa (?) after I paid the bill. Happy to have tried this place for a late-lunch and happy to recommend to others.

THE MOST DELICIOUS AND HEALTHIEST FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD! 😋 We decided to add this hidden gem to our daily activities as part of things to do at one of the cruise stops. Pictures shared here and on their website are no joke…relaxing to the beautiful view while enjoying delicious food and also having a fun drink. Yes, Not everything here is healthy😉! Thanks to Helena of course and her awesome service for making our lunch day so memorable. Biggest regret was not taking pictures of the food and not being able to eat more 😅, but that’s how enjoyable it was. I added pictures of the menu with what we order, some dishes were ordered more than once ☺️ ENJOY!

Visted here on our first day in front Ireland 🇮🇪. Roof terrace with a really nice sea front view. We had dinner which was very tasty. Drink which was good too. Out waiter was really friendly and welcoming. We only ate there one as the town is only 5mins walk and full of choices. I would recommend stopping by even for a drink and take in the view, its breathtaking.

We ordered a Greek salad and beef meatballs to share for a light lunch. All the food was great. The view is the real bonus. We are sailors and enjoyed watching all the half day charters return and dock (about 230).

Great drink and salad at this place. I ordered mastiha spirit and a lovely salad with amazing sesame sweet salty savory and chewy croutons. Great place chill feel and the amazing overlook of the harbor. A place not to miss.

I went to eat there and ordered a salad, there was A LOT of sugar in it, which wasn't stated on the menu. I have diabetes and therefore wasn't able to eat it, they didn't offer to replace it or refund it. Also aside from the sugar it just tasted straight up disgusting. I'd like to add that none of the four toilets there lock for some reason. Great for privacy. Oh and they blast music even at lunchtime so if you're looking for a calm place (or good food) this is not the place for you.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights during our visit to Heraklion. Upon arrival, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, offering us coffee or drinks. The room we had originally booked was under repair due to an electrical issue, so the staff arranged a different room for the night and promised to move us into our chosen room the next morning. They even waived the service fee to make up for the inconvenience. The next morning, we left early, and when we returned, the staff informed us that our original junior suite was ready and that they had already moved our luggage for us. Since we hadn’t unpacked the night before, this thoughtful gesture was very much appreciated. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable exactlyas advertised. The location was perfect, with restaurants, coffee shops, and ice cream shops all within walking distance. We would definitely stay here again!

We stayed in one of the standard suites for two nights. The hotel is fairly new with stylish interior and modern functionalities but with a need for minor repairs especially in the bathroom. At arrival we were welcomed by some personnel in the reception but hereafter we didn’t see any personnel neither in the bar or the reception. This was a bit weird tbh and left us with the feeling of the hotel as a ghost hotel not being overseen by a staff.

Great Cozy Spot for Authentic Greek Cuisine This small restaurant, tucked away near the square, is a lovely find. It has a cozy atmosphere and serves delicious, authentic Greek food. We really enjoyed the courgette croquettes and the mushroom risotto—both were flavorful and well-prepared. The service was friendly, and the complimentary dessert at the end was a nice surprise. If you’re in the area and looking for a relaxed place with good food, it’s definitely worth a visit!

Very good place! Big portions! Mousaka and dakos were gorgeous! Good Retzina! Reasonable price! Good and cozy street! At the end of your lunch you get a perfect present: ice cream, lemon cake and raki. And it’s so delicious!

Very nice place, if you want an every day greek experience go here. Had a small problem as the pork was not fully cooked but nothing more. They gave us a free dessert with some alcohol. Recommended

It was sooo delicious! The restaurant is hidden in the old town, locationwise it is windy and not warm. The food 🥘 is amazing, we tried pork and beef, and could not get enough. Later the staff gave us desert on house. Very tasty 🤤.

I found this restraunt when looking for somewhere away from the crowds. I am very glad I did. I am now on my second visit. I liked the atmosphere, the staff are welcoming and helpful, the food is very good and they also stock some very good Greek bottled beers as well as Alpha on draft served in a glass from the freezer. I could not ask for anything more.

Unfortunately the only good thing about this restaurant is it’s off the main street. You don’t really have service you get a menu and then you take off what you need and the pork and all the meat was burnt. The only good food there was the shrimp! Quite disappointed.

The food was spectacular! Perfectly cooked steaks that were larger than expected. The Cretan salad and chicken bites were amazing too, almost a full meal with just them. Kosta our server was excellent and tended to our every need, with some helpful banter on the city and Greek life in general. The atmosphere was great and not as noisy as other spots in the city. Definitely a higher class of restaurant in the city.

Perfect service, so welcoming, was very patient to our toddler. The 1st dishes were fresh with high quality ingredients but the real show was the Rib Eye steak which perfectly made and was so so delicious. We also had an amazing Creamschnitt cake

Absolutely delicious experience at Kouzeineri Steak House – a meaty dream come true! We stopped by Kouzeineri Steak House around 5 PM – perfect timing, as the place wasn’t too crowded yet, and we could fully enjoy the vibe without the dinner rush. And oh, what a feast it was! We kicked things off with Buffalo chicken wings as a starter – and wow, they were spot-on: perfectly spiced, just the right level of heat, and served with a herby yogurt dip that we could honestly eat by the spoonful. A perfect start! For the mains, my husband went big with the ribeye steak – beautifully grilled, juicy, with grilled veggies and some baby potatoes that were so good we debated stealing them from each other. I had the half chicken – and let me tell you, it was a real half chicken, no bones, full flavor. Served with veggies and a bright chimichurri sauce that made each bite better than the last. We thought we were done... but of course, “for the house,” came a generous slice of cake. Super tasty, though after all that food, I could only manage a few bites – but it's the thought (and sugar) that counts! The service was warm and attentive, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed but classy – a great spot for meat lovers. Now, if I had to nitpick... the steak price was a bit of a surprise. It was listed as €42 for 350g, but the waiter only mentioned after we ordered that they only had 400g cuts. Not a dealbreaker, but that info would’ve been nice before the decision. Also – €7 for sparkling water? That bottle better have come from the Alps personally escorted by goats. Total bill: €114 (2 Paulaner beers, 1 gin & tonic, mains, starter, water, dessert “on the house”). All in all, an absolutely fantastic meal – one of the best we had in Heraklion. We’d go back in a heartbeat (maybe just bring our own water next time!).

We went for a late lunch and were delighted with the calm ambience, fun music, service was so excellent we even had a mini history class about Crete and their wine production. The food was stunning, even better than expected.

I absolutely love this place. Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. I was traveling alone in Herakilon and struggled to find a place where I felt comfortable. Most restaurants don't offer bar seating, and I hate to sit at a table alone. Found this place by chance after walking for over an hour and thought I'd give it a shot. The food is not traditional Greek but it's delicious and so are the drinks. I tried several appetizers and asked for the mocktails to be made into cocktails. I was not disappointed. The bar seating is super comfortable, and you can charge your phone. Went two nights in a row. Will definitely return again before I leave the city.

First night in Crete. We checked into our hotel and could smell something delicious. We decided to try this place and it was amazing. The food, service and atmosphere was unbelievably good. I highly recommend Kouzeineri and our waiter Nick.

The service was excellent and the owner was very friendly. The lamb chops were incredibly tasty, and both the seafood pasta and squid were super fresh and delicious. After the meal, we were treated to homemade chocolate cake and house-made liquor, which was a lovely surprise. The owner also showed us some fish freshly caught from the sea. We didn’t ask for the price since we were on a budget, but it might not be as expensive as we thought. I was feeling a bit down earlier in the day because we only planned one day in Chania with its beautiful beaches, but this amazing dinner in Heraklion totally made up for it. If we ever come back to Crete, we’ll definitely return to this restaurant

Had an amazing meal here! Fresh seafood cooked simplistically but to perfection. And the fries were to die for. Friendly and helpful staff plus the location made the meal even more memorable. Pity we were too full to try the fried fish and fried zucchini fritters. They looked really good too. Well worth a visit and the prices were very reasonable.

This is the place with the best service and people I have seen in Crete. The people who work there are extremely kind, attentive and pleasant. It was very nice to be there. Many thanks to all the staff who made us feel like we were with friends, everyone radiating kindness and friendliness. The food also deserves the highest praise, as it was very, very tasty) and what a sunset there is😍😍😍

This was an excellent meal in Crete! We had the bread service, mussels, grilled shrimps, and daily catch (red snapper). The whole meal was delicious and we got a complementary dessert and small ouzo glass each. The view was spectacular at sunset and the wait staff was very kind and spoke multiple languages. Highly recommend!

I had the absolute pleasure of tasting an authentic Greek seafood dish at Kastella. The food (fried halloumi with tomatoes and the Greek pasta with shrimp) was delicious, the service discreet but prompt, and I presume the gentleman seating us was the owner, very helpful and friendly. Overall, it was a delightful experience!

One of the best dinners on Crete 😍 I eat fresh fish with fried potatoes and salad. And that was super delicious! The staff and the owner are really kind and generous. They gave me a complimentary dessert and drink. And the view is perfect for the sunset. It’s just near the sea. Highly highly recommend 🫶

Such a wonderful place to have sunset dinner while hearing the crashing waves into the seawall. The owner & staff are attentive & courteous. The food is so good with perfect flavor. No need to order dessert because they will give you watermelon, dessert, & raki as complimentary at the end of the meal. Definitely a 5 star restaurant.

Absolutely exceptional cuisine, probably the best we had while in Crete. Service was super nice and very kid-friendly. Setting really beautiful, even in the rain but must be stunning in nice weather with beautiful evening light sitting at the harbour overlooking the sea. Highly recommended!!

Excellent location on the water with a great view accompanied by fantastic Cretan food. Awesome service, Stathis was very warm and welcoming. It was our last meat meal before we left the island so we were treated to some complimentary drinks and dessert which was very kind along with a keychain momento.

Place was nearly empty. At the other end of the sea front restaurants people were queuing for a table. Why? Staff were excellent. Food was lovely. It was cooked really well and presented really well. The Snails were delicious. The Seafood linguine sublime. More than enough for anybody. The House White Wine was crisp and cold. To the Waiters concern I even turned down complementary fruit or sweet for desert! If people can be bothered to walk an extra 75 metres they’ll be treated really well with some great food. The best fish in my life i ate it here. The snails are also very tasty. The salted fish in the oven is a very nice idea and the fish is big and very delicious. The service is quite nice and the people are very friendly.

Amazing place to eat. We showed up (no reservation) at 10:00pm with a party of 14 and were given a private room upstairs. The service was prompt and the waiters were friendly and took care of each of us. We had an age range of 8 to 65 an there was something for all of us. Sampled several of the appetizers, assorted sausages, roasted vegetables, beet root salad, zucchini flower and bread. The open face gyro was good for one personal, the ribeye steak had food flavor and could feed 2 or one hungry person. Finished up with desert, a sweet light alcohol drink and a sweet pastry, (Sorry, can't remember the desert names, but see the pics.) Highly recommended!

A fine restaurant, although i didn't see much of it as i was seated in a room that was relatively emptied away from the main dining hall. only took a glimpse of it while i was passing by upon entry. The food was nice yet it tends toward the savory side. There was not many staff pass by the area so it was slightly difficult to grab someone's attention.

Must to visit restaurant with extra delicious meat. All dishes were great, but meat was above expectations. We tried lamb chops, lamb kleftiko and steak as mains. And these were piece of art. We went there at lunchtime, the atmosphere was very calm, and the restaurant itself is beautiful. The waiter was kind, and we had a nice conversation with him. I had the Kleftiko, it was my first time trying this dish in Greece, and it was very flavorful!

AMAZING! Food portions are huge and everything tastes so good. Service is great and we felt very welcome. Homemade drinks are refreshing and tasty. If your in Heraklion for the day I would definitely recommend. A great place to look out onto sea. You won't be disappointed.

before travelling to Crete, I tagged this fabulous restaurant to visit. Little did we know we would have a family style welcome by our hostess Marina, treating us like royalty- great salads and Aperol Spritz with sunny views from her deck over the blue Mediterranean waters. It was good. The staff was very kind and polite, the ambience was extraordinary and the food was ok. It has room for improvement to be honest, but it was a good enough (Seafood saganaki-the shrimps and mussels were very fresh and trhe feta cheese was extremele tasty, the Salmon pasta was mediocre, but in both cases the portions were More than enough).The ambience is definetely the best in the afternoon or evening. Give it a try!

4.5/5 I never thought I would say this about a place but I genuinely think they gave us too much food. The food was amazing, it was delicious however, I would not say it’s a 10/10. There was room for improvement but I think I had everything I needed on my plate. My friend got the T-Bone stake which I personally liked but she wasn’t the biggest fan of. We also sat outside to watch the sunset but I guess because of the winds, the food go very cold, very fast. I know this wasn’t the restaurants fault because we chose to sit outside, but I would recommend to get a seat inside of you don’t really mind about scenery.

Hands down, our favourite meal of Heraklion (so good we went back). Honest, healthy food made fresh and affordable! Great selection of wraps and plates, filled with flavour and made with love.

A beautiful spot tucked away on a small street. Was visiting the city for a night and I was looking for falafel because I don’t eat meat it seemed like every restaurant that I went to catered to meat. I googled falafel and found The chickpea it’s a self serve restaurant, the customer service was great and the food was delicious I would definitely recommend this place if you have dietary restrictions. ❤️

If you seek a break from the meat-heavy Cretan cuisine, The Chickpea is a great option for a vegetarian dinner. Situated on a side street away from the hustle and bustle, you'll enjoy a refreshing meal made by friendly staff. You can even create your own preferred version from a list of ingredients if that's your thing. We even received some fruit and raki on the house at the end. Definitely recommended!

I had the most amazing food and Freddo here. The staff is super friendly. Everything is vegan/veggie friendly. We did the make your own place. I’d highly recommend the local cream cheese (Gelani), the chutney and the potatoes. They have great portion sizes as well.

The falafel is absolutely delicious. If I could package the restaurant up and take it home with me, I would. The owners are very nice and sweet. They take the time to answer any questions you have about the menu. They can also help you decide between all their delicious choices.

First restaurant we visited in Crete. Also one of the best. I had the falafel wrap and it was delicious. You had a choice between lots of different fillings! Fries were also homemade with a choice of different sauces. They sell lots of other organic products. For anyone that's in the city/vegetarian/vegan/just want to eat at an authentic place (sans chichi) go here. Prices were reasonable and portions were generous! Wish that we could go back. Decent pastry place for a quick pick up. Their cake are not super sweet so you can really enjoy a lot of them. There were some vegan cake options. They also had really good hot chocolate with interesting flavors. Highly recommended.

Unreal. Delicious and such friendly staff. Haven’t had anything like this on this island, the perfect place for healthy, filling delicious food. Only downside is I forgot to take my desert with me!! Many clearly labeled vegan foods and drinks, friendly staff with service in English. Bathrooms downstairs for customers, but walk slowly as the lights are automatic and only turn on once in there. You can make no mistake with food orders as long as you check for the symbol that represents your dietary needs. Very good food and drinks!

Very nice cafe, has a lot of vegan options, milkshakes and several cakes. Everything was really delicious and very affordable. I got a piece of cake as big as two hands for only 3.50€. The staff was also really nice and professional. Would definitely go there again.

Nice atmosphere, but the food and service sucks. This was supposed to be a Cretan salad, no arugula can be found, just bunch of mushy greens. The server saw me being disappointed with the food and didn’t even bother to offer something else instead, simply dropped the check.

Great service, food came fast and got a free bottle of water with our food. Bread was 9,50€ and pancakes 6€.

First they messed up with my husband’s order and only after 15 minutes of waiting they informed what he has ordered cannot be made . Then I specifically asked for no ham in my pasta and they served me with the pasta with ham in it as waitress didn’t communicate to the chef properly , not sure if the chef forgot. It was only when the food came I realised this does not look right. I asked the waitress to double check . They didn’t regard my food restrictions . They changed my order and I had to wait another 15 minutes . But I couldn’t eat the meal as I was already put off from the meal. They didn’t charge us for the meal I ordered but it wasn’t about the money. I think they need to be more careful about people’s food restrictions.

I stopped in for breakfast at Granary yesterday morning. This was part of a mission to roam the city center to try tavernas and restaurants I've somehow passed by the past 6 years. I must say I was pleasantly surprised, especially with the kind of smiles and service we've not seen here since before COVID. The young lady who greeted me, well, she actually rescued this rating a bit. The venue is a small, but super nice pub on one of Heraklion's nicest parks. That said, the cook pretty much goofed on my favorite breakfast test dish. The problem was the eggs being slightly overcooked, and the inside of the omelette being watery. This happens when you try to stuff too many watery ingredients into the mix. The outside gets overcooked in an attempt to cook the stuffed inside. The edges are dry, etc. Other than this, everything from the water to the presentation and a brilliant cappuccino was perfect. Oh, and you should never serve toast, especially wedges, without marmalade, jam, jelly, or at least butter. What's the point? Next time I try for eggs over easy.

Service was slow even when the restaurant was half empty, over- priced sushi (around about 50€ for what you see) with so much rice & not enough fish or other ingredients inside. As about the taste, it’s even way below an average European version of sushi. Don’t recommend it

The food didn’t taste as good as they look. pure disappointment. The crab bao was surimi with salad, the flavouring was horrible. The pork belly was on point tho. The soup of the ramen was sour which I did not expect, and the noodle itself is too soft. The fish in sushi roll does not taste fresh. Overall, overpriced and please don’t bother to go here.

Unique flavors for Heraklion. Great quality ingredients that result to these flavors and textures. The stars for me were the shrimp tempura, the slow cooked pork and the black sesame ice cream stuffed mochi. Staff is very friendly and helpful. It was very quiet when we visited, suitable for a business meal. Also has a great variety of wines and cocktails. I will visit again to try more things.

Nice to eat something different. Good quality. Poke bowl was rather small and good have used something fresh like mango. Otherwise good and tasty!

Well, let me start from the Ramen. Ramen tasted like french onion soup. The onion taste overpowered all other ingredients in the ramen and it was way too heavy. It is definitely not an original Japanese recipe. Sushi and poke was okay but ramen was not at an acceptable standard for sure. When we told the waiter all he said was "okay" we ended up going to another restaurant to get some miso soup since this ramen was disgusting.

An oasis in Heraklion. A must go. Again and again. Friendly staff ready to assist and explain all the choices in the menu. Not to mention to taste the Peru Japanese part! And don't forget, the cocktails rock! Good job! Excellent place, decorated with taste and love!

Ordered 4 different kinds of sushi and a poke bowl, everything was delicious and fair priced, the food didn’t take long to come. Would definitely recommend coming here.

There two main food options in Heraklion: tourist fast food and hotel restaurants, which tend to be expensive and not always tasty. Umami offers a refreshing alternative and is surely the best choice. Conveniently located near the main tourist center, it is a cozy corner spot with original decor and, importantly, no crowds. And then there’s the food, the real reason to visit. It’s a creative mix of local flavors and original recipes, made with fresh ingredients and served in generous portions. I return here every time I come back to Crete. The owner takes great pride in his work and is a genuinely kind and passionate person. It’s well worth supporting his business and having a chat while you’re at it.

Fabulous little restaurant offering a great selection of vegetarian and vegan options. I had the mushroom gyros - which was delicious and filling, along with a fresh fruit juice. Everything is made to order and from scratch in front of you. The gentleman who owns this restaurant was lovely, and I heard him explain to several customers how they’d have to wait for at least half an hour as he had to make previous orders first. They were all happy to wait, and rightfully so as the food is definitely worth waiting for. Highly recommended.

The food was homemade and made from scratch and it was excellent. A great place to go if you want delicious vegan food. The owners were really nice.

We were looking for a less traditional restaurant and tried out Umami. My partner ordered a wrap, I ordered the rice and tofu. The restaurant reeeeally lives up to its name, the umami was plentiful! The portions were good, and it sits in a cosy and quiet street (at least around lunch time). The preparation took a bit long, but we weren’t in a hurry, so 5 stars on all fronts still.

I was looking for vegetarian options and found this - I had the vegetarian mushroom gyros and they were absolutely delicious! My boyfriend had the fried chicken and was also very happy with his choice. The owner was very kind & friendly. Would absolutely recommend. :-)

Superior food at a bargain price. Mushroom Gyro (with tender oyster mushrooms), falafel plate (homemade with no flour or fillers), lemon-zest quinoa, and fresh seasonal produce like local baby zucchini. The owner cares about bio/organic ingredients and details like using the best lentils called "beluga." This unassuming place should be packed considering the food quality relative to the reasonable prices. Please be patient, the friendly owner will prepare and plate your food with great skill, care, and pride. Food so good that I also grabbed a salad to go for tomorrow's boat ride : )

Very good food! I had the Falafel wrap which I enjoyed and my wife got a cranberry iced tea which was pretty and refreshing. She also had a quinoa lentil salad which was quite good

I’ve been a regular there for a while. Simply one of the best places to eat out in town. High quality, good prices, very filling portion sizes. Also a good options for Vegans in the area their tofu dishes are top tier

We went on the Thursday for the buffet which starts at 6pm. The food was nice, the chicken and sweetcorn soup was good. The chicken dishes were also quite nice. It did lack some extra desserts as there was only melon available but other than that a nice meal and reasonably priced.

Came here with incredibly low expectations given the reviews. However, we were craving rice and Asian food so we gave it a try. Being raised in Asia and eating local Chinese food, i was throughly impressed with the dishes. We ordered a la carte (not the buffet). The flavours were authentic and portions decent. The only thing unjustifiable was the price for a bowl of rice. Staff were friendly, attentive and accommodating to our requests for less salt. Definitely worth a shot.

We were ready to rate this place highly until I discovered pink chicken. We had already eaten most of it before we noticed(battered chicken). Told the staff, we were told it's not undercooked. I have been a chef for 10 years, I know pink chicken when I see it. We weren't even offered a reduced price for the food, just fortune cookies or some desert(which here in Crete, you get in most restaurants after good food anyway). Extremely disappointed. I just hope we're not going to be sick.

We unfortunately didnt get pictures, however the 6pm buffet was lovely. It is a small amount of options though, however common favourites such as chicken curry, egg fried rice, sweet & sour chicken, bbq spare rib, onion rings, noodles and so on, nice little sushi selection also! Service 4* as we didnt really need anything however had to wait at little while when wanting another drink or trying to pay, other than that, a great meal

The food here is very delicious. If you buy a plate they also offer you various side dishes, and their buffet has a very big variety.

The food is quite good and cheap. Big variety with all the typical chinese dishes and a menu offer that covers the basics. The location is very convenient and has an excellent sea view. Service is very friendly and helpful. The whole experience was not something exceptional but it's also one of those places that you will always go back because you will always find something you want to eat and has this relaxing atmosphere that makes you feel at home.

Very nice atmosphere and vibes. Not all employees will smile at you and that’s normal because they probably had multiple shifts. But some of them were delightful and very kind. We ordered and it was served quicker than we thought which is nice. We took our sweet time enjoying the food and conversation without anyone bothering us which is a big plus. We had the courgettes balls/patties as starter with cheese and dill inside it was nice and paired well together. Then another starter meat and local cheese rolls, it was nice but dry even with the dip which means only one thing not enough cheese and that’s unfortunate because this is local. As a main we had a meat platter for 2 it was nice but a lot of meat so I’d advise you to order a salad on the side. They offered the raki (local drink) with some fruits and yogurt on the house which was very Greek. They are nice and very welcoming in general.

My husband selected to dine here based on the google reviews and that they offered snails on the menu. Unfortunately there were no snails available on the night we ate there but we were not disappointed!!! The venue is beautiful and the staff fun, friendly and attentive!!! The best staff we’ve encounted. Every dish we selected was so flavoursome. We’ve had some lovely meals on this holiday but this was by far our favourite meals so far. We cannot fault anything. We wish we were staying longer in Heraklion just so we could eat here again. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

One of the best experiences that we had in that town. The service was very helpful and friendly. Recommended us the right amount of food, didn’t try to “push” more than we needed. Our waiter was Yanis and he was fantastic. The food was absolutely delicious, juicy meat was made on point. The pork starter was mind blowing. Also the signature antikristo was soft and simply delicious. Also the panchetta.

We visited Petousis Tavern on a busy evening, and the place was buzzing with activity. A reservation is definitely recommended, though as a party of two, we were fortunate to be seated on the first floor without much delay. I opted for the chicken salad and the Moussaka. Both dishes were decent, though they could have used a bit more seasoning to really bring out the flavors. That said, the overall experience was pleasant, especially thanks to the complimentary treats at the end: a refreshing plate of fruits, a cinnamon-infused cream dessert, and a shot of raki to round things off. The price-to-quality ratio is fair, making it a solid choice for a casual meal with a touch of local hospitality. If you're in the area and enjoy a lively atmosphere with generous service, Petousis Tavern is worth a visit.

A great place to enjoy traditional Cretan cuisine! We had a wonderful experience overall. We arrived about half an hour after it opened, and it was already nearly full. After being seated, we placed our order. Everything we tried was delicious, but the Antikristo truly stood out. The meat was tender, juicy, and bursting with rich flavors. The restaurant has a partially open kitchen, allowing diners to see the meat roasting slowly. The Gemista was also delightful; it tasted fresh and featured a combination of tender vegetables and flavorful rice fillings. When we asked for the bill, we were pleasantly surprised to receive fresh fruit, dessert, and traditional Raki. Don’t miss out on trying the Raki! Last but not the least, the staff was polite and professional. If you’re planning a visit, consider booking a table in advance, as it gets busy very quickly. We would definitely visit again if we find ourselves in the area.

I came for the Antikristo Lamb I’d read about while staying nearby. The dish was simple and quite lemony, but the portion felt small and lacked enough meat. Overall, I expected a bit more flavor and substance.

I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant. The service is excellent, and the staff is polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food is absolutely outstanding. We tried dakos, beef tartare, gnocchi with cheese, and Iberico – each dish better than the last. 🤤 The portions aren’t too large, but with an appetizer and a main course, you’ll be perfectly satisfied. We also had a bottle of wine. 🍾🥂 And of course, a rakhi on the house. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant – you definitely won’t regret it. Also, definitely book a table. It gets very busy. Bravo!☺️

Loved having lunch at Amalia’s, they offer a range of gluten free food and vegan food. I had the chicken and lamb slouvaki and it was delicious. Service was great too, really clear communication about gluten free and I felt so safe eating there. Even had gluten free desserts. Thank you so much!

We ordered the moussaka, pastitsio, lamb chops, calamari, grilled octopus, dolmades, and the Cretan fries (honestly the best chips ever) — every single plate had its own unique flavour and was absolutely delicious. We were just passing by when Yannis showed us the menu. We were intrigued but not certain if the food would be nice or touristic flavours. But then, the food arrived. Dish after dish it was full of flavour and authentic flavours of Greece. Loved every morsel. Then they surprised us with the complimentary dessert and chilled raki too. Very nice restaurant looking to Venetian Fortress Rocca a Mare. We had lunch around 14h on the terrace. The portions are huge, the food is delicious, the order arrived for 15min. As a compliment we received bred as a starter, and 2 deserts- a plate with seasonal fruits and fried buns with ice cream. I saw that the other tables received aperitif as well for free.It wasn’t possible for as to eat everything so they packed it for home for free. The prices are very reasonable and for me even cheap considering the location of the restaurant. Definitely you have to try it!

This is a lovely spot, located close to the sea, which means there’s a pleasant breeze—something that feels especially refreshing in warm weather. At the end of our meal, we were treated to a complimentary dessert, which was a really nice surprise. The wasabi salad was fresh and flavorful, and the octopus in vinegar was equally delicious—light, tangy, and very well-prepared. The cheese balls were also excellent, crispy on the outside and rich inside. The only downside was the bread served at the beginning, which was unfortunately quite dry. But aside from that small detail, if you’re looking for tasty seafood in a relaxing setting, I’d definitely recommend this place!

Been here around 7 times over the last 3yr. Always first night and last night. Staff are fabulous 👌. Friendly and helpful. Good choice on the menu, all of our choices have been perfect, never disappointed. Usually very busy but the service is first class. Really good prices too and good portion sizes. This spot is amazing! Loved it! The staff are so very kind and attentive, and so very cheerful, they just give you good vibes. We had the Dakos, the Pork Gyros and the Lamb "Kleftiko". The lamb was amazing, highly recommend, the gyros is decent, though I would have liked it with some more spices, compared to the lamb it was a bit bland, but still good. The portions are very generous, we had a hard time finishing our food. The prices are also very good. They even offered us on the house some hot bread with, I think tirokafteri, and a fruit&icream platter, some sponge cake and ouzo. Highly recommend this taverna!

The ambiance in Sofas Taverna was good. The food was also good but not very special or very good. The menu would be more various. Service was not good enough. The staff was kind and helpful but they forgot our Greek coffee order. Then I reminded them but they brought coffee with sugar even though I ordered without sugar. Service could have been better and faster. But overall we were happy.

Whilst staying in the nearby main resort we were recommended here for a meal out and were not disappointed. Making a reservation is recommended as it got busy quick, plus they have festivals and the whole area gets booked up quick. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was very relaxed. The menu had a great selection. The food was excellent, service very friendly and when the evening came to an end they sorted a taxi back to our resort. I would highly recommend here.

Visited as a party of 8. Used the restaurant's website to book a table which was waiting for us on arrival - nice and easy, and recommended for larger parties as the restaurant is popular and busy. Mushroom starter was very nice, lots and lots of mushroom. Garlic bread nice and doughy. I had the mixed grill which was great. Others in our party had the chicken in mushroom sauce, souvlaki, stifado, margarita pizza. Everyone enjoyed it, and the pizza was freshly made. Drinks nice, service attentive and friendly with bit of fun. Prices probably a bit on the more expensive side BUT you get what you pay for and most in our party reported it to be their favourite meal of the holiday so far. Recommended.

Visited here in May '24 for drinks and enjoyed it, so visited again for food last night (August '25). The stand out thing above anything else is the service - while relaxed and definitely not stuffy, it's also highly professional and courteous. What I really picked up on was when our waiter (who sounded just like Nico Rosberg! - it's uncanny) called our son by his name when bringing his drink, despite not asking for his name and just picking up on it from overhearing our table conversation. Just really nice and friendly interactions. Food was good, very traditional, so the Kleftiko for example might not look like a modern version, but it was very tasty. Really nice sauce in the meatballs too. I'd highly recommend. It might not be the absolute best food we've had (though still very good), but often it's the experience that makes it.

This was a recommendation from a woman in a previous restaurant the night before and since we went there twice within 2 weeks. Food was brilliant, the fillet steak was the best in town and I’m not a steak lover. Staff are amazing, very friendly, if you like raki (Greek drink) then you get a little jug of it everywhere you go. We got to speak to the chef who cooked the steaks and he was so friendly and wanted to take a shot with us. We spent 70€ but that’s drinks and 2 Courses each which is fair to be honest. Would highly recommend 5 stars

We choose to have dinner here on the last day of our holiday and it did not disappoint! The staff were friendly and the atmosphere felt authentic. We had a cocktail and then amazing food. I had the moussaka which was incredible. Then when we asked for the bill they brought over complimentary raki and orange cake for dessert which was delicious.

Possibly one of the best restaurants in the area, that good we visited twice on our holiday. Gets very busy so best to pop in and book a table. The staff are great and so is the Raki. If you like meat go for the Ribs or steak, the kleftiko cooked in a paper bag was amazing and if you're vegetarian go for the vegan moussaka you won't be disappointed.

A really beautiful must try restaurant!! The restaurant has the most beautiful view and is so ambient and romantic. There is a good selection of dishes on the menu- we had mushroom linguine and sea bream which were both 10/10. The staff are great and we had a really good time. I will add that you definitely need to book if you want a good seat! Would recommend!

This spot has a gorgeous view, right next to the sea. The staff where very kind, the food was very good. We had the Ceviche Tacos, the Pork Chop, Shrinp Saganaki and bread with olive oil. My only complaint would be that our pork chop was raw in the middle. It seems quite busy, we got a table without reservations for 1:30h, so it may be necessary to book ahead of time. Overall recommend the spot.

We went to MED for our last dinner in Crete — and it was an amazing experience! The food, the view, the atmosphere, and the service were all excellent. I highly recommend booking in advance, as it gets very busy. For just two people, we booked four days ahead. Just so you know, each person is required to order at least one main course — you can’t share just one plate. We had the special “Cretan Carbonara”, and we spent about €35 per person, which included two main courses, two glasses of wine, and one dessert. I definitely recommend this restaurant during your stay in Crete!

Med Cafe in Chersonissos is amazing, it’s my favorite place! 1. The staff are truly wonderful. They are always friendly, welcoming, and caring, and they make you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. You can see they really enjoy what they do. 2. The food is always top quality. I recommend this restaurant to everyone because I know they will enjoy it. The meat and fish are fresh, the desserts are delicious, and the beef carpaccio is the best I have tried in Crete. 3. The restaurant is beautiful. You can see that the owner pays attention to every little detail in the decoration. And the view is just perfect 10/10.

Went here for the hype, and it was a good experience (could have been better). The prices are rather on the expensive side, but I would not say it was an expensive restaurant. The portions were a good size, the view was amazing. The only thing I disliked was the service. The waiter was too intrusive, he was trying to be nice, but in a very annoying manner, like he was trying too much.

The food here is unbelievably delicious, and the service is incredibly friendly. We ended up becoming regulars and you could feel it in the way we were treated. They even tried to help us when we asked what we should see here in Crete. Some of the staff speak German and even make an effort to speak more, which we really appreciated. One of the best restaurants in the area! The service is warm and welcoming, making you feel completely at ease and able to fully enjoy your meal. We’ve dined here several times and every single dish has been excellent. For the best experience, I recommend visiting around 6pm—there are fewer people at that time, and you can really enjoy the cozy, family-style hospitality that makes this place so special.

This is one of my all time favorite tavernas in whole Greece. Our group of 6 came here to dinner 3 nights in a row and everything we ordered was amazing: grilled octopus, lamb chops, liver, tzatziki, calamari, sea bass and of course, let’s not forget about the gyros. The cocktails (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) were delicious. But the thing that made us return was the staff. Incredible customer service, attention to details, more than eager to make sure that every customer has a great experience. Pablo was our waiter every night and he was beyond friendly and nice, making jokes with the kids, bringing a smile to everyone faces. All the staff has a great attitude, approachable and open to any requests and suggestions. They gave out complementary focaccia, ice cream and rachia, every night. We were sad that our holiday ended and we couldn’t go to eat there again. I wholeheartedly recommend this place. Thank you for making our experience so nice.

What can I say about this place. Nothing really gives it justice. It’s an amazing place. The food is delicious, the view to the beach is great and the service and staff are brilliant. Being gluten intolerant, it saved my holiday from the anxiety of finding places to eat. I did a lot of research before hand of different places I could eat but this place by far was the best. There were so many options for food! I had something different every time we ate there! I have only taken one star off the food category as there was a slight blip on one of the nights where I asked for gluten free halloumi and it was brought out on a pitta bread. I explained that I could not eat it and they then brought it back out without the pitta. I did have to explain that I could not eat it still as it had touched the pitta. They sorted it out quickly and dealt with it. But that was the only time there was an issue. Would highly recommend even for non gluten free people as my husband and kids also throughly enjoyed their meals. Thank you to all of you at Maria’s Golden Beach for making our holiday wonderful.

A large restaurant that caters to tourist crowds and has little in common with the gastronomic quality of Cretan cuisine. The restaurant's good reviews prompted us to visit what it describes as the "oldest taverna in Stalida". To call this restaurant with its huge terrace a taverna is a bold move. Since the menu posted here in June 2025, prices have increased by over 10%! Unfortunately, the quality of the food hasn't. As in most tourist restaurants on the main street of holiday destinations, the guests are actively approached and lured into the restaurant. For us, this is actually always a reason to give such establishments a wide berth. Accordingly, we chose the side entrance and were greeted by several waiters with a very business-like handshake and assigned a table. The service is friendly and determined and gets down to business quickly. The menu is in four languages and all the dishes are illustrated so that holidaymakers who don't speak the language don't have to experience any unexpected foreign dishes. We opt for a colourful salad with slices of smoked pork and cheese (small golden salad €7.80) as a starter. Our main courses were the "Mixed Grill for 2" (€38.90) and the Greek speciality plate (Greek Plate €21.90). The salad was good and had a fine flavour thanks to its dressing and the aromatic meat. The mixed grill for 2 people was large. Unfortunately, only the biftekis were really hot. The rest of the skewers were lukewarm to cold. The meat was very well done, tough and rather over-seasoned. The side rice was ok, the tzaziki was average and small, but could be reordered free of charge. Only the french fries were perfect - warm and crunchy. The Greek speciality plate had a colourful mix of typical Greek dishes, all of which were of average quality. When we were asked how the meat had been, our response was that it had been hard and cold. The waiter just said, that the restaurant and the kitchen was very busy and that this could happen then....🤔 We were offered an ouzo and our son an ice cream. After almost two weeks in various restaurants and places on Crete, this was actually the first restaurant in which no dessert plus a digestive came from the kitchen as a greeting. This is probably due to its location in a place that is only visited by tourists. Outside of Greece, the place would be described as an average restaurant. The good ratings on Google Maps are obviously due to the fact that the guests who come here have never experienced the really high-quality cuisine of Crete outside of this holiday resort. However, as we have got to know the Greek standard of restaurants in Rhodes and Crete over the past three weeks and travel to Greece since 2015 the quality here can unfortunately only be described as below average.

I cannot praise this place enough!! This was the best experience of all the restaurants I've been to in Crete. We arrived and ordered our starter and 2 mains quite fast despite it being busy We got the BEST octopus in the area, beautifully made and very tender and with a nice grilled flavor. Then we got our mains: a swordfish and a souvlaki (mixed). sadly my souvlaki was red inside and I asked the waitress to attend to it. She said she was sorry but mentioned that this is sometimes the case with meat and that it is safe to eat. I did not mind this explanation much, I left the red meat piece intact, we enjoyed our time so I wouldn't make a scene. To my delight the waitress brought a completely redone pork souvlaki from the kitchen, with sides and all as an apology, free of charge. What a stellar service that any establishment should be jealous of 🙏🏽 we felt so well taken care of. Well thank you so much wonderful people we enjoyed all the food and the little complementary dessert so much! All the reviews are totally justified!!

On my last night in Crete, I discovered Taverna Harakas Restaurant and what an absolute gem it is! This family run restaurant offered some of the best customer service I’ve experienced anywhere in the world. With the mother cooking in the kitchen and the son and daughter running front of house, the atmosphere was incredibly warm, welcoming, and genuine. The food was authentic, absolutely delicious, and excellent value for money. I had spent most of my week dining along the shore and hadn’t even been aware of Harakas until now, but this was by far the most authentic and memorable experience of my trip. If you’re visiting Crete, I highly recommend making the trip up here to eat, relax, and enjoy the amazing vibes. A truly special place!

Taverna next to the square in Old Town, which does great authentic Greek food, in a small restaurant setting. The mixed gyros plate was nice but found the meat to be too salty, to the point where it was a bit uncomfortable to eat after a few bites. The moussaka came in the clay pot it is cooked in and was very tasty. Complimentary raki and desert after our meal. I would book a reservation as the whole square gets really busy on an evening.

Such a good restaurant! The best one in Malia!! The Spare Rips are a 12/10 and also the burger was very delicious. You get a big portion for a small price. A clear recommendation if you are near Malia! The waiter Marios is the best one by the way :) the others are also very friendly!

The best dinner we had in Malia, we had it here. Right from the start you could tell that this place was a lot more organised than most of the others around, but surprisingly they managed to still keep that Greek hospitality we all love. The food was spectacular - everything was very tasty and the portions were right. I ordered a raki and expected a shot, but received a mini bottle, which was definitely a nice surprise. We were seated outdoor next to the entrance to a small church and next to lots of plants - truly a beautiful location. The prices were similar to other restaurants around. Overall a brilliant dinner so would definitely recommend eating here.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Malia and I love both the food and the atmosphere. I have visited it over the last 3 years, whenever I am on holiday here, and have never been disappointed. It is worth booking in advance, as it is very popular, and justly so. The service was friendly, and the food was delicious. We had a wonderful evening again. San Giorgio is a lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was mostly delicious and well-prepared. My only small disappointment was that the saganaki wasn’t feta cheese as expected, but breaded cheese instead. Still, I really enjoyed the overall experience and would recommend visiting!

Nowhere else in Malia did we eat as well as here – the flavors were amazing and the prices were very reasonable. For all the dishes shown in the photo, we paid a total of €135 for 6 people, which is absolutely fair. They offer many traditional Greek dishes and, most importantly, the atmosphere is beautiful and almost magical.

We came back specifically during the evening after our visit to Koutouloufari to try dinner here because it looked so nice, i'm not a big fish person but thankfully they have meat and vegetarian options too. The food was amazing, very fresh, and made with love, portions are very big. And it gives the authentic greek experience of felines walking around. Special mention for the brick sized bak lava! Amazing service and good drinks as well. I myself am a chef and my fiancee has also worked in hospitality and we had not one complaint. 10/10 would recommend !

A true hidden gem I went to Nikos the Fisherman the day before yesterday, and what an incredible experience! This small family-run restaurant is an absolute treasure. Everything is homemade, with authentic flavors and incredibly fresh ingredients, you can taste the quality in every bite. Mama is in the kitchen, and you can feel the love in every dish,generous, honest, and full of heart. The daughters are in the dining room, charming, warm, and attentive. You can sense the beautiful family bond and shared passion. The atmosphere is simple and cozy, the service is thoughtful, and the food takes you on a journey… Truly a fabulous moment that I wholeheartedly recommend.

The food is excellent. We ordered mussels cooked in wine, Nikos-style octopus, and fried calamari. For sides, we had local potatoes and a salad. It would have been enough to order just three dishes, but we really wanted to try everything. All I can say is that it was truly divine. Plus, the staff is incredibly friendly. We loved it so much that we went back four times during our stay – something we had never done before! The food is simply incredible: traditional Greek dishes made with ultra-fresh seafood and some delicious local specialties (special mention to the « nikos octopus premium » and the saganaki shrimps lovingly cooked by the mum and his son 🥰). The flavors are authentic, generous, and absolutely delicious. The service is everything you expect from Greece: warm, welcoming, and always happy to guide you if you’re not sure what to choose. The atmosphere is very chill, perfect for a relaxed lunch or a dinner on the beautiful rooftop with its elegant and cozy decor. Amazing experience at this restaurant! The staff were so attentive and welcoming especially Joanna! The food was so good that we went back the next again night. We can’t recommend this place enough.

We were looking for a place that was traditional Greek, and that's how we found Lithos. It is located in the main square of Mochos village, in a wonderful environment, next to some other restaurants, shops, and a church. The hosts were very kind, they told us story about the history and the products of the family restaurant, and they also offered us their own olive oil. We tasted and also liked their semi-sweet white and rose wine. The food was delicious, there is a wide selection, may as well vegan options. We also received local desserts as a gift. We celebrated my cousin's birthday there and he was surprised with a freshly baked apple pie and sparklers. I can only recommend it, it's worth it. There is a free parking in the garden 50 meters from the restaurant.

Such a lovely place to go out and try some Greek cuisine! Instantly greeted and welcomed, even got offered for free their homemade bread and olives. Prices are especially amazing for the portions and quality of the food. It is also surrounded by many lovely shops and an Orthodox Church that are worth visiting. Would definitely recommend coming here!

Large portions of delicious food in a beautiful location. Initially we drove this way for the view from the top of the mountain (on the way to this village from the north) but carried on afterwards to visit here, and we're glad we did. The village itself is beautiful and has lots of character. This taverna is one of a number in the square itself; all where busy and the taverna as well as the square had a great atmosphere. Our waiter (the owner I believe) was welcoming, friendly and helpful, and throughout we overheard him discussing various local history and information about his taverna with other customers, which was interesting. As this was a 'big lunch' we opted for mains only, and we're glad we did as the portions where large, and the food tasted great. The meat in my mixed grill (especially the pork skewer and sausage) was very flavoursome. We also received a complimentary dessert (which I believe was Kataifi) which was delicious. Thank you!

The atmosphere was fantastic. The owner welcomed us very nicely and gave good recommendations for appetizers. We ended up getting the calamari which was a really good meal and good portion size! We got a small surprise after the meal, some fruits and desserts which were fantastic. Overall a very good experience!

The owner Nicolas originally from Ukraine (Odesa), he is kind and friendly. The atmosphere is amazing! The mix fish for 4 persons is perfect, delicious seafood. The local cheese is very tasty too. Near the next cafe was live music, amazing singer makes this evening special. I am totally recommend this place, it is worth to drive from Heraclion to this place.

Great atmosphere, great food and friendly staff. We wanted a sports bar showing the Liverpool game that wasn’t too rowdy and somewhere with a vegan option for me. The White Lion ticked all the boxes; plenty of comfy seating with great views (we were seated by the lovely waiter right in front of the TV). And a small vegan menu including vegan burger and nuggets! We both had the vegan soya burgers which were delicious and exactly what we wanted. Mythos on draught too - perfect spot.

This place was a gem of a find and we went there numerous times. Food, fab! Drinks were good and staff were very attentive. There is a great atmosphere and it does get busy there. They have a variation of sports on the tvs and bingo on a Sunday and Monday which is a good bit of fun! Prices are average for the area too!

A little gem if you want to experience local Greek atmosphere and taste Greek food in Heraklion Seems like a place where locals come to pick up food, which is usually a good sign. Everything is in Greek, but the staff was nice to tell us about the menu. The prices are very reasonable and everything we ordered was really delicious and the portions were large.

Best gyros I had on Crete! For 5,8€ you get a huge chicken gyros with double bread and much meat. The restaurant itself has a very authentic atmosphere with many locals frequenting the place. Other reviews of the portion size are not exaggerating, they really are huge!

A local friend recommended this place to us as one of the best gyros places in the whole Crete island. We came for an early dinner after an active day at the beach so we needed some fuel 😅 we ordered a regular pork pita gyros and a pork gyros on the plate. imagine our surprise when we got our order served… huge portions! The food was very tasty, plus the service was super fast. I’d say around 3-4 mins. Loved it, will come back! 😎

This was one of the best dining experiences of my entire life and an absolute highlight to our big family trip in Crete. We ordered a bit of everything - mixed meat grill, mixed seafood plate, pizza, pasta, salads.. and every single dish was packed with flavour and balanced! The food was brilliant and yet the very best thing was the service! The waiters were so attentive but unpretentious. Superb food, the mixed grill was amazing and the Caesar salad was huge! Calamari was a little chewy but the Kleftiko was excellent and so tender! Nice touch with Raki and Homemade red wine liqueur served with watermelon and grapes. Definitely recommend 👌 Yamas!

The food is absolutely delicious, we’ve tried lots of different dishes, including slow cooked beef dishes on both nights, which were amazing. The place is clean and tidy. Friendly staff. However I wasn’t impressed by the food at all. Regarding grilled octopus, there was a hint of bitterness and a noticeable burnt flavour. Ice cream looked nice, strawberry on top were tasty but the ice cream itself tasted quite chemically and cheap. I don’t think the place is good value for the money.

The food was AMAZING and cheap, the view FABULOUS, and the people there were friendly as usual, i must say we really ordered much (starters, water on the table, drinks, grill then some dessert) and came around 65€ exkl Tip, and after that they offered us some fruits on the house with some shots. I would recommend everyone who goes to Agia Pelagia beach must visit. 10/10

If I could rate this higher, I would! 10 stars! The service is the best we’ve ever had in Greece, the family team are super friendly and passionate about their food and restaurant. Following our meal, we had raki on the house and a lovely dessert. The food is really authentic and portions are Greek (lots of food!) so really good value for money. The Moussaka was incredible! The setting is perfect overlooking the beach with the waves crashing and the sky lit up by the sunset and moon rise. If you are staying in the area, even if it’s all inclusive, be sure to reserve a table, you will not be disappointed. Thank you for an excellent meal!

We vacationed in Crete and tried pretty much every restaurant on the island. Beautiful family run restaurant on an idyllic little beach. The family who run this are so nice and really take care of each customer in the best way possible. So friendly and welcoming. We ate some of the best food we had in Crete in this restaurant, all presented super fresh and using magnificent local ingredients. We will return for sure.

Incredible experience! The food was amazing and the stuff was so nice, they kept entertaining everybody. The prices are also great and not expensive. We went for dinner around 9pm and we only had to wait 7 minutes for a table. Outside there was a small stage playing traditional music and people dancing, of course we had to join too after the dinner. We had a greek salad, pita bread, mixed grilled meat and baklava for dessert. Everything was incredible! Free raki and cheesecake even after we had the dessert. Absolutely recommend!!

Great food and service, catered well for the kids and really nice place to have dinner on the square. If you want to go upstairs to the terrace you need to book in advance. Tables are quite close together but everything else is great!

Feels like your at home as a Greek from abroad coming to this Tavern I felt like I was with my Yaya and Papou back home eating a nice dinner with my family. George and his son are amazing with their customer service and making you feel like you’re at home. And his wife is one amazing cook!

Altogether a very solid and nice evening spent there. Yes, the fries could have been more crisp and salty. The tomatoes and cucumber could have been cut/displayed more appealing to the eye. All that being said, it is a taverna as it is being described in all the good books. :)

Beautiful first meal. A little expensive but I think worth it for what you get I loved my sushi the presentation was top tier with beautiful plating and compliments on the dish. A little slow getting water for us especially with the wasabi HOT HOT. Would definitely recommend for the atmosphere super relaxed and spacious. Not a great deal of veggie options on the main menu however, so if you’re not feeling sushi maybe give it a miss if you’re veggie.

We didn't go back to the same restaurant twice but this would be my first choice to go back to... Also sitting in front of the restaurant enjoying a nice whiskey is a small feast... As a local, I must say the food is of a high standard and should satisfy even visitors from abroad. The atmosphere is excellent, and the staff are very friendly and eager to help, doing their best to find you a table. However, it took an hour for our dishes to arrive, which is far from what I’d call efficient or fast service. Perhaps it was just an off day, but I think it’s worth mentioning in case this can be improved. Other than that, it was a good experience overall.

We visited the Atrium last Sunday evening where the food snd service was first class. I was also impressed with the selection of microbrewery beers.

Excellent sushi menu selection, at reasonable prices. A great wine list - would recommend the Kapetanissa rose if you’re having sushi. A good restaurant to visit if you are fancying a change to the usual Greek food. Lovely setting in the back of the restaurant, and despite being busy, when we visited the service was attentive. The sushi we had was; California special, teriyaki special, vegetable roll selection and beef bao buns. It was all very tasty and fresh.

I visited Malia for a week, and this was by far the best food I had during my stay. The prices are affordable, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The chef himself is one of the sweetest, kindest people I’ve ever met, and you can tell he truly cares about his guests. The food is absolutely delicious — we visited several times, and every single dish was amazing. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a warm, homely atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to relax, especially in Malia where the streets can be loud and busy. Here, you can enjoy your meal in peace. I also noticed that there weren’t many tourists, which made the experience feel even more authentic. The attention to guest satisfaction here is on another level. The staff genuinely take care of you, and they have thought of every little detail to make you comfortable. On the table, you’ll even find wet tissues, toothpicks, and phone wipes small touches that make a big difference. Even the restroom surprised me it had everything you could possibly need, which shows how much they care about their guests’ experience. I absolutely loved this place. We enjoyed a couple of meals at Taverna Eva during our holiday. It was a lovely relaxed setting for lunch and much busier a few days later for dinner. Truly loved hospitality, attention, and food. It’s been a while since I ate a hearty homemade food like served here, and it’s been a pleasure to stop at Eva for lunch. The food might take a little longer to be served, but there is nothing wrong with that as this is really a small family taverna. And the food is worth it! Also you'll get pretty large portions. Even the appetizer filled me. :D They will serve you your food and drinks with a smile! If you are looking for an easy-going restaurant away from the loud center of Malia, I totally recommend this place! They also have a lot of options for vegetarians and also offer vegan feta cheese. As well as glutten free food. :)

We had a wonderful time at Taverna Eva today. The atmosphere is calm, beautiful, and welcoming – it feels very personal and family-run. They offer vegan bifteki, and it’s absolutely outstanding! Everything is handmade and prepared with love. As a vegan or vegetarian, you can still enjoy truly authentic Greek cuisine here. The drinks were equally memorable: the “Kanelada” (a traditional cinnamon-syrup refreshment) and the “Vyssinátha” (Greek cherry cordial) were exceptional—refreshing, flavorful, and perfectly complementing the meal. While on vacation to Hersonisos, we came across this little gem of an Italian bar/restaurant on the waterfront promenade. We were ABSOLUTELY blown away by the place !!! Spectacular service, fresh and tasty ingredients, well presented dishes and fantastic cocktails. We can't give enough praise to the place. The nicest, authentic Italian food I’ve ever had! Everything was full of flavour, especially the chicken risotto & carbonara! The drinks were gorgeous and the view was even better! Definitely come here to watch the sunset while you eat!

All new Mare Mio. Great looking new Italian restaurant. On our first visit we enjoyed Dinner by the Sea on our second & third visit we sat upstairs great atmosphere in both areas. Visited Kostas last night for their Greek Night, and it was absolutely brilliant. We enjoyed three hours of fantastic, free entertainment alongside delicious food. What really stood out was the atmosphere—the staff weren’t just serving, they were part of the celebration, joining in with the dancing and clearly enjoying themselves as much as the diners. A fabulous evening all around—highly recommended!

Nice service, good vibes and music, dessert and wine were on the house! 😀 next time we were given strawberry sorbet on the house, it was so yummy! To conclude, their service is fast speed!!! The best we tried in Stalis!

Before the manager was so friendly, but after he decided to be rude, when we said that the wine was not dry(in a nice manner), he brought us the sweet one. Returned us the glass of wine with an attitude, that this wine is dry and we just don’t know anything about wine. I was waiting for my food around 40 minutes. And the veggies and chicken were slightly warm. At least it was tasty. But sorry, with this attitude we won’t come back again. Be nice to your clients and try to show some respect.

My friend and I stumbled upon this place because of reading the reviews. We really wanted to visit a restaurant where they would perform traditional dance and this was absolutely spectacular. The food was amazing (INCREDIBLY FRESH CALAMARES), so scrumptious, the staff was lovely. The energy and atmosphere had elegance and humour simultaneously? We eventually danced the Sirtaki with the whole restaurant THROUGHOUT the restaurant. This was such a memorable last night. The live music was beautifully executed and the dancers were extremely kind and so talented/skilled, ευχαριστώ.
