Mallard Cottage is a charming and rustic restaurant located in the quaint fishing hamlet of Quidi Vidi, St. Johns. Housed in one of the oldest wooden buildings in the area, this former residence for local fisherfolk and antiques shop has been transformed into an outstanding dining spot. The ever-changing menu features locally sourced seasonal dishes like molasses-glazed pork belly, chicken crepes, and halibut cheeks. The relaxed atmosphere is occasionally accompanied by live local music.
Absolutely stunning experience, start to finish. Brilliant atmosphere and location, but pales in comparison to the service and food, which were both out of this world. Our server was relatively new to the team, though you’d never know it! She was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly- made us feel like family all the way through. The food was delightful, and we even got to see a picture from earlier that day of the tuna that ended up as the catch of the day on my dad’s plate! Super accommodating of my sister’s vegan diet, despite being at the tail end of service for the day. All in all, would highly recommend and cannot WAIT to go back
Julia R — Google review
Mallard Cottage is such a quaint and charming spot with a rotating daily menu that focuses on quality over quantity. I went with the pork chops while my wife had the fish (tilapia, I believe) — both were absolutely delicious! Some people might be thrown off by the smaller menu (like the table next to us), but don’t let that discourage you — there’s always a burger option if nothing else appeals that day. They’ve also got some great local beer options, thanks to being right near Quidi Vidi Brewery, and the service here was warm and friendly. If you’re looking for a cozy dining experience with fresh, rotating dishes, Mallard Cottage is well worth a stop!

Disappointing Evening We were really looking forward to the meal, but were disappointed. The restaurant is very lovingly and invitingly decorated. The open kitchen and the bar area fit well into the concept. When we visited, the restaurant was practically empty and the restaurant staff talked more to each other than to the guests. There was also no catch of the day and no mussels available. The presentation of the dishes was minimalist and we had to add more salt to all of the dishes because salt apparently isn't used in the kitchen. The batter on the cod tongues was soft and there was no truffle to taste or see in the truffle gnocchi. We ordered three short ribs. All three portions were different sizes. When I asked, I was told that that's just the way it is.
Mario — Google review
We had a great time and enjoyed our meal. Definitely not a place you should go and rush through. We had the Brussel sprout salad and it was amazing! My cod was very fresh and the drinks were delicious. Service was great! By the end of the night we had two servers and the chef at our table talking and giving us recommendations where to go on our trip. I think it is worth a stop while visiting St. John’s.
Krista S — Google review
We had a TRULY incredible experience at Mallard Cottage! I am vegan, and the chef was so accommodating - he made me an incredible appetizer with a parsnip puree that I will surely dream of. The waitress so was kind, the service was wonderful, and the ginger mocktail was delicious! My friend who is not vegan said the fish of the day dish was the best thing she has ever eaten. We will definitely be back.
Chantelle P — Google review
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in St. John’s! The service was warm and friendly, willing to give recommendations and attentive. The food was excellent and their drinks were strong and delicious. The restaurant atmosphere was beautiful, cozy and welcoming. Definitely will come back soon!
John F — Google review
This is constantly rated as one of the best restaurants in Newfoundland so I had to come try it out. Situated in a historic building inhabited by the Mallard family for over a century, the decor is very rustic and cozy. The service was very professional. We came in mid-May (during tourist off-season) and the place was packed, so I would recommend making reservations in advance. The dishes change daily based on what's in stock; I personally really liked their bread and their refreshing lobster salad. They also have a special menu that's prone to selling out quickly so I would recommend ordering from that menu first, before you order from the main menu. The flavours were decent and the price (and portions) feel in-between fine and casual dining.
Andy Z — Google review
So great! SARA, our server tended to our every need. Make a reservation in advance.. Busy time is 6:30 to 7 Great locally sourced fare, fresh fish ( COD THE DAY WE WERE THERE) oysters, with my team enjoying a warm beet salad and the chicken...with shared accompaniments of potatoes and Brussel sprouts Yum yum! Atmosphere, service, food... you need to go here!

Terre Restaurant, located inside the ALT Hotel St. Johns, is a new dining establishment with an impressive culinary team. Chef Matthew Swift, formerly of Joe Beef and other renowned restaurants, leads the kitchen while Stelios Doussis, previously at establishments like The Merchant Tavern and Fogo Island Inn, serves as general manager. Terre has gained recognition for its delectable dishes and was even featured in enRoute Magazine's Canada's Best New Restaurants list this year.
We so enjoyed our visit with Terre. The staff were friendly, knew the menu well and bartender made a fine lemon drop martini. The food was creative and delicious. The razor clams were a treat! Smoked arctic char a must. The broccolini with shredded beef very tasty and strip bass all worth choosing. We shared it all so it was not too much food.
Susan S — Google review
We came for dinner with a friend. The food was incredible, the drinks fantastic, and the service outstanding! Thank you Chase and head chef for the surprise dishes. Both the Tuna and Mussels were exceptional! And the cocktails….crafted to perfection. Thank you Delaney!
Tamara G — Google review
Wow, just wow! Terre completely exceeded my expectations — both the food and service were phenomenal. We went with the “let us cook for you” option, and every single dish was a masterpiece. This restaurant truly deserves a standing ovation.
Thu V — Google review
This isn't the starter series. This is advanced dining. We ate the chef's menu which came with perhaps 6 starters/salads, 2 mains, and a dessert. I couldn't tell you what it all included because each dish was complex with various vegetables, herbs, spices and many included a protein. Delicious. The foods are fresh, seasonal and crafted with care. The service was patient, helpful and pleasant. I'd highly recommend.
Paul M — Google review
Terre is an absolute must if you want an upscale dining experience. From the second you walk in, its interior decor is professional designed with fantastic attention to detail; the bar is beautiful. The service was excellent from the host’s greeting through till the end of the meal. The food was plated elegantly, and delicious. We savoured the snow crab, and the PEI oysters. My husband has been here many times, and says every dish is delightful. We also ordered cocktails which were also delicious. One was the mixologist’s take on a negroni, the other was a type of spicy margarita — both were savoured. Reserve in advance, because they are understandably in very high demand.
Kim M — Google review
Jakob our server was warm, knowledgeable and efficient. His recommendations for wine, dessert and entree menu options were spot on. The ambiance of restaurant offers lovely view of harbours, contemporary and wonderful option for hotel guests.
Mar D — Google review
I was visiting St. John’s Newfoundland and had a list of restaurants picked out to dine at and let me tell you this was the best of them all. I had fresh cod, their beer chicken was unlike any flavour I tried before and the service was impeccable, I highly recommend getting a cocktail too, our espresso martinis were delish!!
Olivia — Google review
Highly recommend “let the kitchen cook for you” option. It was dish after dish of interesting flavors and with the freshest ingredients! The staff were also incredibly warm and friendly. Definitely an amazing experience!

Bannerman Brewing Co. is a trendy craft brewery housed in a beautifully repurposed fire station on Duckworth Street in St. Johns. The brewery offers a rotating selection of innovative brews, from IPAs to stouts, and features a spacious taproom perfect for unwinding. Additionally, their kitchen serves up creative, Thai-inspired dishes from Namjim.
We had a wonderful experience. They have new menu, and we tried half of the items. Everything came out quick and was delicious. Beer was not bad. I expected better beer choices and flavours. But we still all found something to enjoy. I would definitely come back and recommend that place, because overall it was great experience. Service was quick and friendly
Tatjana S — Google review
This place has beer AND coffee. Repeat, good beer AND good coffee. Plus the breakfast wrap was 'wholesome' good, not like a 'so-greasy-feel-like-have-to-walk-it-off-after' type one. To top it off, the choc chip cookie was so soft and tasty that you knew it had been baked that day. High praise to the different spaces too - traditional cafe seating, with high tops and couches, every setting covered 👌
Luke R — Google review
While I was visiting St. John’s I went to quite a few local craft brewery locations and taste some others in restaurants. Bannerman Brewing Co. is by far my favourite. You will see in my photos that they have a beer for every palette. I’m an East Coast IPA fan, my server brilliantly led me to the right choices. I was happy with both. I also had two delicious beef tacos. I’d say they were a cut above bar food and better than I’d had in the city until then. I’d like to add that based on wonderful aromas wafting from my neighbours table there are other delights to eat. It was a Monday evening so I was lucky to hear a set of acoustic and vocal music by a band with a lot of talent. I was blown away by them. The space itself is very warm and inviting and the service spot on. I was also happy to see that they are Rainbow friendly!

Great spot to unwind after exploring downtown St. John’s. Located at the end of the street, this cozy brewery offers a wide selection of local beers and light snacks — perfect for a casual break. While it’s not the best place for a full dinner, it’s definitely worth a visit for drinks and a relaxed atmosphere.
Esther C — Google review
Great beer I had the back pocket vienna lager 6%. Service was lovely...larger open patio and huge space! Its accessible so people in mobile devices can enter and the washer is accessible!!

This was the first thing my fiancé and I did when we landed in St. John's. Amazing vibe and even more amazing drinks!! You can't go wrong with any of them. We loved this place so much that we came back later on in the night for more beer!

Bannerman Brewing Co. in St. John’s is a must-visit. Located in a beautifully repurposed historic firehall, it offers a modern, welcoming atmosphere. The beer selection is top-notch, with standout options like the Hill O’ Sips IPA and Shore Leave Sour. The food menu, featuring Thai-inspired dishes such as drunken noodles and peanut-crusted chicken wings, complements the brews perfectly . Service is consistently excellent, and the overall vibe is lively yet relaxed. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Bannerman Brewing delivers a memorable craft beer experience.

Visited twice in two days. Great spot to visit with friends. Coffee cafe/brewery combo was great for us. Excellent cortado, cappuccino and drip coffee. Menu is small. Burger and fish and chips were also very good. The babaghanoush was okay not great and same with the watermelon salad. Beer and cider was very good. Overall we really enjoyed our time at Bannermans.

Indian restaurant
India Gate Restaurant is a long-standing, family-owned establishment located at 286 Duckworth Street near the Supreme Court Building. It offers an extensive Indian menu and a seasonal lunch buffet, making it a popular choice for both seasoned curry connoisseurs and those new to Indian cuisine. Despite facing challenges such as a fire and temporary closure, India Gate has stood the test of time and continues to be a go-to destination for authentic Indian flavors in St. Johns.
This was my first visit to India gate . I liked the vibe here , soft music , spacious and dim lights dining and good customer service they provide . Servers are very polite and friendly and make sure you enjoy your food . In St. John’s so far this was the only place where you can get tasty Indian food . Quality and Quantity was pleasant. I would recommend this place for sure 💯
Manjinder K — Google review
In search of something different than pub food, we went to India Gate for vegetarian fare and were not disappointed. Mains don't come with rice, but a single order of rice plus plain naan was more than enough for our two dishes. Flavorful and a good amount of spice, plus friendly service made this a good dinner decision.
Amanda W — Google review
India Gate delivers a fantastic atmosphere — warm, stylish, and welcoming. The décor strikes a perfect balance between traditional Indian charm and modern comfort, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed meal with friends or family. The food was rich in flavor with a solid variety of dishes, and the pricing was fair — offering good value without being overpriced. However, while the setting was excellent, the service left a bit to be desired. Staff were generally polite, but the overall attentiveness and responsiveness could use some improvement. One important point: tipping should never feel like an obligation. It should be a gesture of appreciation — given when the customer feels genuinely satisfied with the service. Moreover, the amount should be left entirely to the discretion of the customer, not presented as a fixed percentage. Good service earns a good tip, but it should be voluntary, not expected by default. In short, India Gate is definitely worth visiting for the food and ambiance. With some attention to service and a more respectful approach to tipping, it could easily become a top favorite.
Anastasios H — Google review
One of our favorite restaurants in the city! The butter chicken is unbeatable and their willingness to always accommodate our lengthy list of allergies is always so appreciated! The service and food here is so amazing. Also appreciate that they don’t blare the music like so many places nowadays. Those with nut or gluten allergies, rejoice— you are welcomed here! They even accommodate a separate butter chicken without cashew!
Kayleigh A — Google review
Ordered a very simple thing to get some food for the road, samosas and spring rolls. Was told 5-10 minutes - waited for a half hour. Half the spring rolls were cold and soggy. The samosas are not like any samosa I’ve had with this strange overpowering seasoning salt that they coat the outside with. Sauce supplied wasn’t anything i have ever had at an Indian restaurant, strange mayo based dip, didn’t even use it more than once. Overall pretty rough, would not recommend, far from authentic Indian that’s for sure.
Sean M — Google review
The tandoori chicken, laacha paratha, roti and butter chicken were very tasty. Best I have had in St John’s. Service and ambience is also great. I would go back again. I did not like dessert so much though. The saffron cake tasted like a normal tea cake and the gulab jamun was a bit rubbery. I’m okay with the 18% tip but don’t understand why it’s applied on the total bill including hst.
Rahul N — Google review
I ordered the dinner for 2. I do this so I can can have food for the next day. This is without a doubt THE best Indian food in Eastern Canada!! I have been eating Indian Gate food for almost 30 years, I think it keeps getting better all the time!!!

We enjoyed a pleasant dinner at India Gate. We ordered a tandoori plate and eggplant dish. The tandoori meats were tender and flavorful. The eggplant was equally well prepared. We also liked the cozy ambiance.

Chinched is a relaxed neighborhood bistro that offers an ever-changing menu of small plates featuring local ingredients and bold flavors. The restaurant, run by Chef Shaun Hussey, is known for its eclectic dishes such as charbroiled squid with Amatriciana, pok pok turkey wings, and pork rillette with crostini. In addition to their renowned charcuterie boards, Chinched also operates a deli serving up sandwiches like Mortadella and patty melts for lunch.
Excellent experience here. Our server went above and beyond to look after us and we had a great yarn in the process - really made a difference. Had the large charcuterie board which was excellent as always with great variety. Also tried one of the cocktails which was done very well. Atmosphere was quieter but great for a good yarn with your company. Will be back again to try some mains !
Adam H — Google review
On a solitary trip to NFLD, it was only appropriate that I treat myself. Chinched was an amazing experience. From the Absinthe based cocktail, the Corpse Reviver, to the Atlantic Oysters. The charred carrots were good, and presented beautifully, but I found them in need of a bit of acid. The gentleman behind the bar microplaned a lemon in under a minute and had it ready for me instantly. The service while sitting at the bar was top notch Being that I was dining alone, light hearted conversation was welcome, and he was very forty coming with what was on the menu, where it came from, and what to expect. Great experience. Food was great. Service was stellar.
Mark F — Google review
Reserved a spot at the bar as I was traveling solo. Danny and everyone else at Chinched made me feel welcome from the second I walked in! I had a custom mocktail, which started the experience off right. I’m pescatarian so I ignored the recommended charcuterie and pigs ears, but hear they are delicious. I settled on Lobster, poached and served cold with leche de Tigre sauce. Amazing! By far best lobster dish I’ve ever tasted. Also had the beets and pears, which was superbly prepared. I didn’t leave room for dessert, but had some anyway. Glad I did. Although the food was amazing, the overall experience of dining here was even better. Danny made me feel so welcome. He suggested other great restaurants and experiences in St John’s. Sadly it was my last evening there, so I’ll have to go back! I would highly recommend this place!
Gertie Z — Google review
We walked past this restaurant so many times on our way downtown but never stopped in until it was recommended to us as one of the better restaurants in St. John’s. We are very glad we came! The ambiance upstairs is nice enough, but we eventually moved downstairs and ate at the bar which we enjoyed much better. The staff was very friendly, and the food and cocktails we had were fantastic. We started with a charcuterie board, which is one of their specialties (they also seemed to have a storefront that sold meats). We then had some curried fish cakes which were excellent and spent the rest of the evening sipping cocktails and nibbling on fried pig ears in buffalo sauce (don’t let the name scare you, these are FANTASTIC). Highly recommended and should be a priority for any trip to St. John’s
P M — Google review
We got a reservation here on a whim and were pleasantly surprised with the food and cozy atmosphere. The charcuterie board is a must get and they even have a small storefront inside which sells the meats and cheeses individually. I did find the cod too be on the saltier side, though.
Andy Z — Google review
Had a nice dinner experience at chinched! The staff was very friendly and welcoming and seem to enjoy what they do. The food was so so for me, got try the local oyster, the merasheen bay oysters with house hot sauce which were food, the cod dumplings were ok and the tuna putanesca ok, excellent risotto but unfortunately the tuna was quite salty.
Emma — Google review
Ouuuu baby was this restaurant good! We got the Lamb chop, cavatelli with mussels and cod dumplings, all of which were fantastic. The dumplings might have been the best $18 I’ve ever spent. The cheesecake for dinner was solid. Ambiance was great and the service was top notch. I’ll be back if I’m ever in the city.
Mike H — Google review
Great food, friendly staff, nice ambiance. We had candied walnuts, the boards (combo), grilled charcuterie platter, herb roasted beets, and cheesecake as the final touch. All were excellent. The charcuterie for both the boards and the grilled platter were outstanding. The selections of cheese fit my taste buds very well. Just love the place. There were parking spots but unlikely to handle all the guests. Fortunately we went on a Saturday and street parking spots were not too hard to find. The front entrance has several steps. Wheelchair customers'd better check if there is another entrance.

YellowBelly Brewery is a brewpub located in a historic building in St. John's, Newfoundland. It has been a key player in the island's craft beer scene since its opening in 2008. The brewery offers house craft beers and serves wood-fired pizzas and burgers, making it a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. Additionally, YellowBelly Brewery provides brewery tours for those interested in learning about the beer-making process.
Had an amazing time at YellowBelly Brewery in St. John's! The atmosphere is unique—historic building, cozy vibe, and great downtown location. I tried a couple of their house beers, and they were excellent—fresh, flavorful, and just the right balance. The food was also top-notch; the wood-fired pizza really stood out. Staff were friendly and made great recommendations. Definitely a place I'd come back to, whether for a casual drink or a full meal.
Volodymyr S — Google review
It's a bit crammed, even upstairs but it is better upstairs. Everything (chairs, table, floor etc.,) was a little sticky though which was uncomfortable. However, the beer is good and they have quite the variety. I got their signature fish and chips and the fish is really fresh as you'd expect from Newfoundland but I would've preferred a bit more seasoning especially since it's supposed to be herb-crusted. The tartar sauce seems to be made in house and really carried the dish. I'd have it again ☺️ but I'm still looking for the best fish and chips in St. John's
Tiffany C — Google review
First night in St. John’s I had to try this place. It was top of my wish list and the food did not disappoint. Started with a dip that was amazing, cream cheese, green onion, bacon and chips. Then we shared a two piece fish and chips. They knew we were sharing so that spilt it onto two plates for us. The fish was so good, light, flaky, the coating was not greasy. The fries were hand cut and really good too. The dipping sauce with the fries was a nice touch. The waitress recommended a really good beer that fit my needs. It was really busy so service was a little slow but with the amount of people it was understandable.

I just happened upon this place. Its a local brewpub. A great selection of beers. A very nice menu. Staff is friendly. It's just a cool brewpub to come have a beer and or some food. They have two happy hours. 3 to 5 and 10 to close! Gotta love it! I'm here for work and took drive downtown and found Yellowbelly! Glad I did!!! I ordered the wood fired pepperoni pizza! Another... "Glad I did!"

I booked a table in advance to come here. The place is very popular! We were in the old hall, where there were still traces of a big fire. It creates an atmosphere. If you want a noisier atmosphere, book a table in the main hall. The food is very tasty, but we came for the beer, which they brew themselves. There is a lot to choose from. Thank you.

One of our go to restaurants when in St.john’s. I always order the braised short rib, and it never disappoints. So much flavour, beef is literally falling off the bone! Pair it with Wexford Wheat beer, you’ll be glad you did. Be sure you ask to be seated in the Underbelly, the more secluded area downstairs.

I discovered this historic brewery through their website and decided to pay a visit—and it did not disappoint. Their beers are exceptional, even surpassing what I’ve tried in Toronto. I ordered the YYT Cream Ale, which had a uniquely distinctive aroma that stood out. As for the food, the salt and vinegar cod bites and the seafood chowder are must-tries. After all, you can’t visit Newfoundland without enjoying its renowned seafood.

Rocket Bakery & Fresh Food is a charming French-inspired bakery and cafe located in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. This locally owned establishment offers a delightful array of gourmet prepared foods for both dine-in and takeout. Known for its delicious homemade offerings, Rocket Bakery serves up everything from fresh-baked breads and pastries to hearty soups and sandwiches, all made with care.
A must-stop for a casual breakfast or lunch when in St. John's. Don't pass on trying the delicious fish cakes. While I prefer mustard pickles with mine, the tartar sauce was tasty. I also tried the schnecke - croissant pastry with coconut, honey, and lemon curd. Quite sweet and sticky, but great with a cup of coffee. There are so many delicious-looking baked goods, salads, and more at Rocket Bakery - Water Street. The cafe is eclectic Newfoundland, fun and friendly. Lots of seating on a weekday morning. Friendly staff, too. There's an all-day menu, a vegan lunch menu, and a gluten-free menu to help you choose. I go every time I'm in town. P.S. If you're watching the latest season of Reacher on Amazon Prime, you will recognize the filming location on Water Street. 😃

One of my favorite places to have breakfast! The fresh croissant breakfast sandwich is AMAZING and the coffee is so good!!! Highly recommended Rocket Bakery Downtown!!
Natasha K — Google review
We had to wait for the truck to come in with the food we should’ve known better does that means fish cakes were made elsewhere? Well we had them; they were microwave hot with that characteristic steamy soft texture. They were very salty not edible. The cinnamon bun had the appearance of a Tim Hortons apple fritter. It seemed to be a baking powder /baking soda and not yeast base; not a lot of flavour. lThe cheese onion scone was not crisp but at least it was edible.

Excellent coffee and pastries! I recommend the cold brew coffee. At the time they were using beans from Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters.

Located at 325 Duckworth Street, The Duke of Duckworth is a vibrant and lively pub in St. Johns, Newfoundland. It has been an integral part of the city's social scene for over 25 years. The cozy interior features a small bar, dining area, and pool table. The pub offers classic bar bites and an extensive selection of draft beers. However, when it comes to the best Fish & Chips in St.
Friendliest loveliest people my husband wanted to come here because of television series Republic of Doyle we stopped in for a beer and an appetiser cod bites. It is more like a meal. It was huge portion. Great atmosphere, nice vibes. You can get your pint engraved with any picture you want. It was fun. I guess you need to have a good head of foam so we chose Guinness poured by an expert. Fish chowder with out shell fish! It was delicious. We plant to return here tomorrow! Came back 2 days later the fish and chips were perfect!!

Down the steps; nearly always a queue - BUT worth it. Great atmosphere and great servers. Have Premier league football matches on multiple screens. Had the Newfoundland special of Fish and chips with a side of gravy and dressing (which is how locals eat their fish+chips Chips). I was skeptical but it was really good. RECOMMEND
Tarun Y — Google review
I tried the fish and chips at The Duke of Duckworth in St. John’s, and it was a treat. I had fresh cod: one perfectly golden-fried and the other gently baked. The fried piece practically melted in my mouth, that wide-eyed moment of pure delight. The tartar sauce, possibly house-made, was far better than the usual kind I’ve had. I also got a side salad, which was fresh and crisp. Overall, the meal was fantastic, and the whole place gives off a cozy english pub vibe that made the experience even better.

It was a Saturday evening so tables were in high demand. I didn't realise how small the place was. I shared a table. The staff brought over a place setting, but never came back for my order. So I went to the bar instead and was served by a lovely lady. The fish and chips were as advertised - very good. So was the local beer.
Perry T — Google review
Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. It’s light yet flavourful - definitely worth the hype. Decent portion size as well. I got gravy on the side (not pictured) which was good but I don’t think necessary as the fish is good on its own, or with tartar sauce+vinegar which comes free. They also take AMEX. I’d come back and will be recommending to friends and family! 😋

Great place! Went I walked in, I felt I walked in a pub in Europe. I had the pan fried fish & chip and it was delicious! Fish was well seasoned, tasty and perfectly cooked. Fries were also perfect. I accompanied my meal with black horse beer. Noah explained to me it is only brewed in NL. I remember the brand name from when I was a child and have not seen that beer for a very long time…. Noah came back after he served me to make sure everything was good.

Down a narrow street, The Duke Of Duckworth is an iconic St. Johns bar that has been around for a while now. The first thing you will notice is the ambience. Basically, its your standard small bar with tapered history all along the walls. I decided to order their fish and chips with dressing and gravy. The fish was super moist, flakey, and fresh. While the batter was melt in your mouth, seasoned well, and had an airiness to it. The fries were also fresh and tasted even better with the gravy. I always cover my fish and chips with malt vinegar and tartar sauce for extra acidity to cut the extreme savouriness of the fried foods. Overall, everything was quite nice. The only downsides are the pricing. The fish and chips and quite expensive in comparison to a lot of other spots in the area. If you are a tourist, its a worthwhile visit for sure.
Daniel O — Google review
A local favourite, and for good reason! This cozy spot has a fun atmosphere, great staff, and absolutely delicious food and beer. We both went with the fish & chips, and you can choose fried or baked — we went fried. Our server recommended upgrading the fries to Newfoundland style (bread crumbs and gravy on top), and wow… well worth it! The fish was super fresh and flavorful. For drinks, we tried the famous Iceberg beer from Quidi Vidi Brewery, brewed with 15,000-year-old iceberg water. While the concept is really cool and unique to Newfoundland, the beer itself was honestly a bit mid in my opinion. I’d recommend trying other brews from Quidi Vidi instead. Overall, we had a great time here — fresh food, cozy vibes, and a true local staple. Can definitely see why both tourists and locals love it!

By far the best oysters I’ve had any where in the world.. nothing compares to the oysters you can find here vs the US. Small bar vibe, friendly staff, fun atmosphere. Easy to become a regular here, especially on 1/2 marg Monday. I love everything on their menu.

Great quality & selection of Oysters & the spicy tuna sticky rice, kobe beef lettuce wrap & korean fried chicken is a must to try. The afternoon non alcoholic drinks are amazing as well to relax. A fabulous team of bar tenders, waitresses always smiling, interactive & engage well. Overall a pleasant experience twice in a row will bring us back for the third time in just 7days trip. I’m from Toronto and LOVE East Coast oysters, and Adelaide Oyster House did not disappoint! My first visit was Sunday afternoon (Aug 3) while on vacation for my friend’s 50th. I ordered a dozen, which happened to be PEI Lucky Limes and they were incredibly fresh, plump, briny, and delicious. Loved the blueberry habanero sauce, lemon wedges, perfect mignonette, and especially the freshly shaved horseradish. I was impressed watching the shucker smell each oyster to ensure freshness, such a great touch! My second visit was Sat evening (Aug 23) when I returned to NL for a funeral. I brought my sister (she prefers smaller oysters; I love the plump ones). This time they were a mix of PEI, NB, and NL – tasty, though not quite as plump and missing the shaved horseradish from my first visit. I get oyster sizes vary, but I’d love more consistency with the condiments. That said, both visits were fantastic overall. Great vibes – chill on Sunday afternoon, lively and fun Saturday night. The kimchi oyster Caesar is a must-try! Service was excellent both times, even when it was packed. Thanks for two memorable visits – I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town!

Rumoured to be the best place in town for fish and chips, but I came for the chips, dressing and gravy! This place is a step back into time. Old style diner type vibes. Plenty of indoor seating and a menu that pretty much revolves around a fryer. My chips, dressing and gravy was legit a comfort food dish I never knew I needed!!! Why is this only happening in Newfoundland?? Definitely worth a visit if you want to try a local favorite.

Cool place to dine in family, we arrive the whole family of 17 and we kindly ask if they could accommodate us, without blinking the lady opened the private area and staff cleaned the entire table for us to sit, such a proactive employee and nice people, she apologized for only having plastic glasses but we were completely happy and didn’t even pay attention to the glasses, food was served in a reasonable time , good very generous and everyone was happy, they divided the bill in 3 i have never seen that , they divided the entire bill like one fish and schips is like 12 bucks and we got each 4 bucks to pay, that was so smart and so easy to pay attention the counter. We gave a generous tip because they were very effective

An old style diner, has a nice atmosphere, lots of seating, and appeared clean. I ordered a two piece fish & chips, cod tongues and cheeks. The fish tasted fresh and had a fluffy, crispy, light tasting batter without seasoning. The cheeks and tongues were both tasty, the tongues were a bit slimy. In all, it was an average but good meal. The portion size for the meal was good and it was a decent price. They have a nice homemade vinegar. The Iceberg Beer was great, but I didn't get a glass with it. Our server, Tracy, was friendly and attentive. We had an enjoyable, relaxing dinner here.

Had the opportunity to dine at Ches’s after a bit of a longer day. Our group was warmly greeted by Ariel when we arrived. She was absolutely top-notch as a server. The Seafood platter was definitely top notch and hit the spot. Paired with a pint of Newfoundland‘s iceberg beers, it definitely was a memorable experience. If you are ever in St. John’s, I would definitely recommend giving a spot a try.

Solid fish and chips with crispy batter over very fresh cod, unseasoned. Fries were good but not as crunchy as I would like, gravy was delicious. Cod tongue app was just ok. I appreciate the homemade vinegar and seasoning options. Old diner vibe, waitress was friendly enough but could have smiled more. Excellent location and fast service.

Hungry Heart Cafe & Catering is a charming daytime venue that serves up a variety of seasonally inspired dishes, including sandwiches, salads, and pasta. The cafe not only offers delicious food but also provides culinary training opportunities to support individuals facing barriers to inclusion in the community. Their menu features enormous scones, Eggs Benedict with yogurt-based hollandaise, grilled beet salad with local goat cheese, and homemade pasta.
We came here for lunch after landing in St Johns. After sitting on a plane, this simple to the point meal was perfect. I didn't leave feeling heavy or hungry. I loved it even more after finding out that they do this as a social enterprise to help vulnerable adults and help get them into the food service industry. The service was really good and the food and atmosphere is perfect. There is a small outside area to eat but we just sat inside by the window. It's a lovely cafe to have lunch. We didn't need reservations or have to wait in line and came in 30 minutes before they were expected to close. We never felt rushed or like we were being waited for. I would say the cost is acceptable and for the cause, I would say that it is well worth paying for. Would definitely return to have lunch.

The ambiance of the place is good with giant windows. It's very bright and clean. The fresh little flower vase was a nice touch. The food is alright. Although it's unique, it's a little bit pricey. I liked the Mimosas here. Tried the soft shell moose tacos and breakfast on the bun with potatoes and salad. The dessert was delicious. The covid protocols are being practiced and the tables spread apart.

I'm gonna give an objective review since I'm not from NL and because I've only been there once. The cafe in itself is cute with a warm ambiance. First I was disappointed because I expected them to offer a variety of coffee like espresso but they only have regular filter coffee which isn't bad. Then, the service wasn't bad, but it was kinda strange.. From what I could grasp, I think employees there are being rehabilitated to society by being offered a job at this cafe by the church. Please, tell me if I'm wrong. I think it's great! More places should do this. But like I said it was kinda strange.. I think one of the server didn't like my boyfriend and he was giving him weird intense looks. I had to point it out. Then, the food was good. I had the applebutter grilled cheese. But the portion is too small for the price. I can't give a better rating because of these reasons. I'm still glad I tried it.

This teeny café is delightful. It’s not cramped, there is no uncomfortable banquette seating (thank the gods!) and it’s open and sunny in the morning. The server was extremely friendly and attentive. The food was delicious (we both had the hearty breakfast with sausage) and we were tempted by dessert afterwards but couldn’t have fit it in! We will definitely return though.

Pizza restaurant
Piatto Pizzeria + Enoteca in St. Johns offers a traditional Italian Aperitivo experience, featuring classic drinks like Aperol Spritz and local draft beers paired with delectable bites such as fried gnocchi, corn fritters, and wood-fired vegetable spread. The restaurant is renowned for its authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas made with high-quality ingredients and baked to perfection.
It goes without saying that the Pizzeria serves delicious, authentic pizzas—but this post is really to appreciate the amazing staff. The servers are some of the kindest and most thoughtful I’ve encountered. I have a dietary restriction and completely forgot to mention it when ordering. When the food arrived and I realized my mistake, the server listened patiently and happily had it fixed for me without any fuss. Truly exceptional
Muhammad U — Google review
Piatto Pizza was once my go-to spot for a delicious, authentic Neapolitan pizza, but unfortunately, it has fallen from grace. What used to be a delightful, well-crafted pizza is now a sloppy, wet mess. Over the past year and a half, I’ve given this place multiple chances—five visits in total—hoping they would get back to their former quality, but each time it’s been a disappointment. The pizza crust, which used to be perfectly crispy, now turns soggy within minutes, leaving the toppings in an oily, unappetizing heap that slides right off. The quality of the ingredients seems to have dropped as well. The pies are no longer that delicate balance of fresh, flavorful, and satisfying—they're simply a mess on a plate. The service has also taken a hit. On a few occasions, I’ve had rude and disengaged servers who seemed indifferent to the experience they were providing. For a place charging premium prices, this is unacceptable. I won’t be returning. Blaze Pizza, which is half the price, offers a far superior experience both in terms of taste and value. Piatto, you really need to do better.

What an incredible experience at Piatto Pizza on Elizabeth Street! Even though the restaurant was packed and the staff were running around to keep up, the energy in the room felt exciting rather than overwhelming. You could really see how much pride the team takes in their work — friendly faces, professional service, and genuine care for their guests. We did wait a little longer than expected, but honestly, the service and atmosphere more than made up for it. Mary was absolutely amazing — attentive, kind, and made us feel so well taken care of. Leah greeted us with such a warm and welcoming smile that set the tone for the night. Brett went above and beyond as a waiter, paying attention to every little detail and making sure we had everything we needed. And we can’t forget Johnny! And also watching prakash stretch dough right in front of us was like a show! We left feeling full, happy, and very grateful for such a memorable evening. It’s not just about the food (which was delicious) — it’s about the people who make the experience so special. Thank you, Piatto team, for making our night one to remember. We’ll definitely be back!
Jerrica C — Google review
I worked for an Italian company for seventeen years and regularly traveled to Italy for meetings. Piatto is the ONLY pizza I have eaten outside of Italy that is a faithful representation of true Neopolitan Pizza. They got it right, even down to the wood they use in the Italian made wood-fired ovens that run at about 480°C/900°F. The pizza may cost a few $$ more, but the ingredients are the real deal...no shortcuts or cheap substitutes. Menu options beyond pizza are solid. Quick, friendly service for a working lunch. The only thing they could improve on is their selection of "affordable" Italian red wines. Italians almost never eat pizza without a local wine...it enhances the experience and is truly cultural (but obviously a decent glass of wine in Italy costs about the same as a glass of Coca-Cola).

Extremely Disappointed – Poor Food and Service We had one of the worst dining experiences here. The problems were not just with the food, but also with the service. • We waited over an hour from the time we placed our order until the first dish arrived. That’s unacceptable under any circumstance, especially when the restaurant was not even at full capacity. • The Fish and Chips were a disaster. The batter was burnt, the fish inside was extremely dry, and to make things worse, one piece of fish wasn’t even fully coated in batter — it had a section completely exposed. One of the three pieces had no seasoning at all, and the others were salted on only one side. The fries were also burnt and bitter. • When I politely complained to the server about how overcooked the fish was, I was shocked by the response — they told me they “didn’t see anything wrong with it.” I had to point out the blackened batter and dry fries before they even acknowledged the issue. This level of denial and lack of accountability is very disappointing. • The nachos were overbaked to the point of being inedible. The top layer of chips was dry and hard, and the cheese had been cooked too long — it was scorched and rubbery. • The mussels were a joke — many were completely empty, likely due to being tossed around or overcooked until the meat fell out. They were just shells. • The Honey Dill Chicken Sandwich was also burnt and dry, with a bitter taste from being over-fried. • The only redeeming item was the Seafood Chowder, which was warm and decently flavored. But by that point, it was too little, too late. Overall, this was an unacceptable experience both in food quality and in customer service. There is clearly no proper kitchen control or attention to detail. And when a customer raises a valid complaint, dismissing it outright is just poor hospitality. We will definitely not return, and I strongly suggest others avoid this place unless major changes are made.

Great spot in Quidi Vidi Village with lots of beer options, a good vibe and nice views. Went on a Friday evening before a long weekend and waited over an hour to get in. Not complaining (we knew it would be busy), just giving a sense of how popular/busy this place is. Lots of great beer and food options. Would not recommend the Taproom Nachos (vegetarian), it was basically just BBQ sauce and chili mayo drizzled on top of a few toppings. Fish and chips were solid.
Nichole F — Google review
One of our last stops while visiting. We weren’t even hungry but had to try the fish and chips. The chips themselves weren’t anything to brag about, and had a bit of a fishy flavour so one can only assume they were fried in the same oil. However the fish was the best I’ve had in St. John’s. Perfectly cooked, lots of flavour, juicy and flakey on the inside. The only desert they had was blueberry bread pudding, which was quite good as well. Many options for alcoholic drinks, mostly made in house as well. The Service was alright. They seemed confused most of the time and more interested hanging around the register eating rather than actually serving.

Great location with a very nice patio! I love iceberg beer and have tried most of the other brew they make. The Iron Cherry Sour and Day Boil are other great beers! Food was excellent! I only had tacos, they had some other great options that looked great! The place was very busy when I got there around 11:30 and it appeared they were going through some renovations. The Reno's didn't ruin the experience at all. Their merch spot could use some work. T-Shirt sizes seemed to be pretty limited. Still a great place overall! Can't wait to come back next year.
KG82 — Google review
Fair selection, and fairly high price - especially for the quality. The iceberg beer is definitely a novelty, and tastes like every other generic light beer on the island. Calm Tom and Day Boil are fair for IPA's. The Sophia Sour line is packaged wonderfully, but the tastes simply don't match the vibrant artwork of the cans. I won't haul it up a mountain again, lol.

Excellent Iceberg Lager beer and dinner! The beer was tasty and cold, and yes made with real iceberg water. The cod and chips were beyond perfect, crispy batter with plenty of tasty white meat cod inside. Probably the best we have ever had! And you can buy the Iceberg Lager to take home as well, cans and bottles. Highly Recommended!

Village pub and restaurant on the water in this little fishing village. Like most places here, make sure to call ahead to ensure they're open. Not everything is open or available and hours depend or crowd and weather. Quid Vidi Brewery is located on the water in this small fishing town. It's about a 30 to 40 minute drive from downtown St. John's. Their website is also worth a look; up to date and sell merchandise.

Fantastic food and staff, wonderful patio. The blackened salmon was the best meal I've had on the island. They brought a bowl of water out for my pup on the patio. The lemon cheesecake was the perfect finish to the evening.

I really enjoyed the breakfast meal, but felt like it was a bit smaller than expected. The staff and wait service was incredible!! Nice outdoor patio and interior was beautiful. Accessible front entrance. Thank you!

Douglas made our dining experience both times we went to the Gypsy tea room amazing. The food was superb and the staff friendly and went above and beyond our expectations. I had the smash burger and the Cajun chicken fettuccine my wife had the lamb shank as well as halibut every bite of each meal was awesome and delicious. Thank you Douglas and everyone else

Food was great atmosphere was fantastic. Cocktails were tasty. Service was a tad bit slower than most restaurants but nothing that would deter me.

We were recommended this place by locals a few times so we decided to try it out and are very glad we did! Staff is very friendly and also gave good food recommendations. We both got the Candied Apple cocktail and it was the best cocktail of our trip. For an appetizer we got the Brie; it was pricey but so delicious and looked pretty. Woulda like just a couple more crostinis but either way, we still enjoyed it very much. For our mains I ordered the Cajun Chicken Fettuccini and my fiancée got the Blackened Salmon and we both absolutely loved our meals, everything was cooked and presented to perfection. Highly recommend stopping by!

After our last not too good experience at this place, we went back last Saturday. The place was not too busy, so we had a good experience this time. Delicious food and excellent service.

I am visiting St. John's, NL for business. I asked the Delta Concierge for restaurant recommendations and he suggested The Gypsy Tea Room. The Blackened Salmon was excellent, I would have licked my plate if I was home. I didn't have any dessert, but the options looked divine! Cassie, the waitress is the epitome of waitresses! Very attentive, responsive, accommodating (for dietary restrictions), simply delightful!

We were a group of 18 and was seated and one of the large rooms in the lower floor. The room was fantastic, spacious, and gave us a private space for interactions. Our server was very attentive a patient. I ordered the cod fish burger and I would definitely ordered again. Portions was great, tons of fries. The clam chowder was excellent as well, and I particularly like the fact that it was not salted too heavily, like many other restaurants do. Chunks of fish were present. I would say the carrot cake was okay. It's not as small as some of the better ones I have tasted but that may be my own particular preference.

Wow wow wow! We absolutely *loved* this place. As vegans, it was honestly the BEST dining experience we’ve had since visiting Newfoundland over the last ten days! From the absolutely delicious food, incredible atmosphere / music & friendly staff - we were not disappointed to say the least. I’ve got it starred for our next visit! Can’t recommend stopping by here enough. You won’t regret it! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

No complaints- just a yummy and nicely crafted meals for vegans and vegetarians. A highly recommended spot in St. John's.

Excellent vegetarian and vegan food options. One of the only healthier restaurants we could find in St. John’s, which was a great break from pub food. Sandwiches were huge and bread was delicious. Highly recommend the maple tofu and the fresh lemonade!
Kayla M — Google review
First day in St.John's. As vegetarians, we were so happy to find such a cute & cozy spot with such healthy and flavourful food options. We had the soup of the day - butternut squash. Perfect on a cool October afternoon. We then had the Enchilada. Stuffed full of flavour. My only ask would have been to have an authentic, fresh, spicy salsa option. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are generous. The price for some of the add-on options are a little high, but otherwise the actual item prices are very reasonable.
Seema P — Google review
Got some takeout, and staff were so helpful with helping to choose celiac-friendly options! Not only was the food great, but pricing was very reasonable. Would 100% eat there again.
Alex A — Google review
Had the enchilada with refried beans and it was AMAZING - I was surprised I was able to eat the whole thing…and even more surprised I felt great after! Also so cutely decorated inside - love the vibes. Only reason for the missing stars on service / atmosphere are the prices weren’t posted on the blackboard (though they are on the menus at the table - just realized late), and some of the music was a little intense for my personal tastes haha. But would definitely come back - I have my eye on the curry, the Pad Thai, the teriyaki bowl or one of the sandwiches next. The super saiyan salad also looked delicious!
Sophia C — Google review
Some of the best vegan food I have ever eaten! They make their own cashew-based vegan cheese. Flavours of the marinated tofu sandwich are yum. Some flavour of umami and hummus. The tacos are made with a neat chewy skin... I've eaten something similar but I can't name it. It's way better than a traditional tortilla. The avocado taco was good. The CHKN taco was good too. Be careful with the buffalo sauce; it's got tang and heat.

Filipino restaurant
Family restaurant
RJ Pinoy Yum, located on Ropewalk Lane, is a popular Filipino restaurant in St. Johns. The restaurant offers a variety of flavorful dishes such as sizzling pork belly, crispy tofu, and tangy sauces served on cast iron platters.
Finally checked this place out today and was not disappointed! No wait for a table, pleasant staff, very well organized menu, and a very clean and comfortable setting. Had the tempura shrimp taco and my friend had the pork belly taco, and they were both amazing, he even got more to take home! For dessert we split the halo-halo and it was amazing! Cold, creamy, and a mix of so many different but complimentary flavors and textures. Couldn't recommend it enough, definitely will be back to try more of their dishes!
Chloe G — Google review
It was a fantastic experience again for 2nd time! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it perfect for a casual meal. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring felt right at home. The food Lomi Overload was delicious, with authentic Filipino flavors that truly impressed. Each one was cooked to perfection. Overall, it was a delightful experience, and I can't wait to return!
Ye Z — Google review
TL;DR: RJ Pinoy Yum is a great place to have a full meal or a quick bite, try out the filipino cuisine and have a great experience altogether, in terms of both taste and service. When we ordered our food, we grossly underestimated the portion sizes they offered! This makes it a great value for money and also a good place for a group visit! We tried the Wonton Nachos, Lomi Overload, Mango Graham Shake and Pansit Canton. The milkshake felt like a breath of fresh, tropical air with the snow outside. We felt everything that was offered was fresh and generous. Seasoning was a bit on the lower side, but that's reasonable since you could adjust much of it later and leaves room for preferences. The Wonton Nachos was such a simple but savoury dish! Overall, I wouldn't say everything was mouthwateringly delicious, but fulfilling enough to go back time and again! The people here took great care of informing you about components of a dish that you could possibly have an issue with, offering replacements if possible. They were also very amiable and pleasantly concerned about your comfort and experience. The place looks minimal but pretty, with bold colours and gorgeous photos of their dishes. There's a board at the entrance where you could leave a note - that's a singular feature which would stand out to you in terms of aesthetics.
Ayon ( — Google review

Courtney C — Google review
This was my first foray into Filipino food and I had a great experience. The portions here are moderate and the food tastes great. The spicy foods aren't over spiced as a tolerance test, but instead rely on the blend of spices to achieve the desired result. The non-spicy dishes were similarly flavourful. There are choices for either end of the preferred palate spectrum. The service was speedy and polite. The atmosphere of the restaurant is well suited to table conversation. I was pleased to note the complete absence of any wall mounted TVs, or loud music competing with the table talk.
Adam B — Google review
Stopped in for a quick lunch of a different flavour so i ordered the Pansit with Shrimp and Spring Rolls. The Pansit was a really nice fresh plate of noodles and shrimp that livened up with a squeeze of lime. Very good. The Spring Rolls were thick and crisp. Nice light flavour very filling. Prices were reasonable and the service was friendly and informative. They are celebrating a 3 year anniversary and I wish them many more years of service .

Fabulous Foods Limited has been serving its famous and delicious turkey pie for nearly 20 years, making it a must-try dish. Customers rave about the amazing taste of the food, especially the turkey pie and homemade flakies. The generous portions and reasonable prices make it a great value. The friendly staff and excellent service add to the overall dining experience, making it a place worth visiting again and again.
Karen, don't forget to try Maker's Mark Whisky! Some say it's orgasmically delicious! However, be sure to savor it as though its expensive chocolate. In fact, it has strong caramel notes, which happens to be my reason for getting it in the first place. Anywho, let me know how you make out with it?

Their homemade fries are the best I have eaten in a long time! Turkey flips are so yummy. Clubhouse is delicious. Baked goods are great. Prices are good! Takeout only. Definitely recommend.
Kimberly H — Google review
I've been a long-term customer of Fabulous foods (since the old days, when they were called Chaulkers !)....but unfortunately I've noticed a steady decline in the food that I've grown accustomed too. Today was my final visit. HAVE THEY CHANGED RECIPES ? Or am I imagining things. The food was totally tasteless....the fries undercooked, the gravy was horribly bland (zero taste), and the turkey almost tasted sour. The worst part unfortunately, was the dressing, which is usually my favorite. The dressing had way too much savory, making it inedible. I literally tossed my HOT turkey deluxe in the trash bin. I can't be the only one who has noticed the decline in quality can I?? Sorry Fabulous foods.... I won't be back.
Todd G — Google review
Good Fries and Gravy but the block of dressing isn’t the best, And there is only 2 uncomfortable stools for seating and they are way too low for the counter to eat at. Really good prices for food I have to say !

Portage, located in downtown St. Johns, is a new restaurant founded by Celeste Mah and Ross Larkin. Despite the challenges in the industry, they bring their culinary philosophy to this venture, emphasizing high-quality food with a casual and family-style approach for a social dining experience. The menu features highlights like Guinea Fowl, Carrots, Rutabaga, and Chocolate Cake. The atmosphere is described as chill and welcoming with low-key music for ambiance.
I’ve been to a lot of highly rated and Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, but this one’s my favorite. The food was amazing, but what truly made the experience unforgettable was the warm hospitality and genuine care from the staff. Plus, the bar is well stocked for a great cocktail!

Seafood was amazing and fresh. Service was top notch. Sweet Caroline was very attentive and helpful. Tables are a little close together though, if you are a large group not so bad but if you are a couple it can be a little loud.

We ordered five dishes and two drink: beef Tartar, cabbage, cannolis, beef salad, cured Char, gin basil smash, blackcurrant mule. Three tastes great; The other two are too salty to eat. Non-alcoholic is ok; the gin basil smash has an interesting flavor. A good customization option is their dishes can all do half size.

Excellent food and service! The scallop crudo was the stand out of the night, halibut and dessert were great as well! We were a group of 3, and had planned to order many vegetable dishes on top of our apps and proteins. I appreciated that the server advised us to order half portions as opposed to full size due to our group’s size. Honest, friendly service!

Very nice dinner. Paris was a terrific server. Lovely to have so many delicious vegetables and perfectly cooked halibut. A wee bit loud but nice, bustling vibe.

As a self proclaimed meat eater & meat, lover, I am shocked that I’m writing this with you, but this was an unbelievable restaurant with tons of great vegetarian options all of which tasted amazing. The only drawback to this restaurant is that service can take a little bit of time because they course out the meals which they don’t tell you in advance so plan accordingly ! The best dish was the sweat & sour carrots + the desert was amazing!

It was our first evening in St. John's and we took a chance and walked in to Portage without a reservation. Thankfully there were seats at the bar. Staff were exceptional, going beyond expectations - providing an off menu bottle of wine, making thoughtful recommendations and ensuring we had an excellent experience on all levels. We ordered the deviled eggs, salad, fingerlings, striploin (1/2 portion) and cod with hollandaise (outstanding). Thank you for a wonderful welcome to Newfoundland.

The Nook and Cannery, located in the old Big R location on Harvey Road, seamlessly blends into its surroundings. Chef Amy Anthony's ever-changing menu features sandwiches with jammy eggs, comforting soups, Asian-influenced grain bowls, and messy fries. A must-try is the Trini Doubles - a fusion of Newfoundland and Trinidadian cuisines using curry-yellowed toutons filled with black beans, chickpeas, zucchini, and pickled shallots.
Loved the space with all the colours, the charm of staff greeting and serving us. One of the best meals in St. John's with great creative vegetarian options. We shared two dishes: Glory bowl made of seasoned fried marinated tofu, puffed rice, cherry tomatoes, seared broccoli and kale with picked sweet onion and Poached Pear with fennel and goat cheese salad. Note that their updated menu is on their Facebook page. Their butterfly pea flower and rhubarb lemonade was quite nice and refreshing. Make sure you stop by here before or after visiting The Rooms.
Titka S — Google review
The Nook and Cannery feels like a homely place. The food feels fresh, rich, flavourful and made with care, complimenting the decor and atmosphere of the place. Many of their dishes have a touch of fusion, combining elements from different parts of the world, and it's done well in my opinion. They'll also ask you about elements you'd like to exclude/include in a dish, and if not, feel free to ask them. Lot of gluten-free options! They also have a lot of pretty and tasty baked goods. Had my friend invite us here because he loves the place, and after visiting, "Will definitely come back again!" felt like a hearty and honest review of the place. Prices are alright - even if it feels slightly on the higher side, the portions are adequate. When we visited on a Saturday evening, the place wasn't that crowded.

Nook and Cannery is our favourite spot in the city. Amazing and nourishing food with lots of options for everyone. There’s finally a place in the city where the gluten free (celiac) vegetarian can eat with friends and family and everyone gets what they want! We cannot say enough good about this place and how important they are to the community.

One of the more creative diners in town. Great food, flexible for gluten free options, vegan or vegetarian. I still go for the chicken or meat options but haven’t had a bad meal here. The popcorn chicken that I had last time was fun and tasty. The pot stickers were also great. Highly recommended.

Excellent spot for a healthy hearty lunch. I had the glory bowl and oh my goodness it was...glorious. the sauce was incredible. Tofu done perfectly. A wonderful assortment of perfectly prepped veggies to go with it. My husband had the black bean burger and fries which were amazing. We often have trouble finding good vegan food when we travel but this place hits the spot and has many vegan options. Our server was delightful as well. We ordered one of each of their vegan pastries to go and had them for breakfast the next morning. I don't know how they make their vegan puff pastry but I'm going to be asking for the recipe next time.

After relocating to 108 Duckworth Street, the establishment expanded its menu to include an array of delectable pastries such as bagel danishes and raspberry hibiscus curd brioche. In addition to their morning offerings, Toslow also serves up great espresso drinks and breakfast sandwiches, with the Mac Combo being a popular choice.

The espresso coffee was very sour and I couldn't finish it byonde the first sip. The place was not very clean, and the service was rather slow. They have a nice view, though, and a nice selection of vegan/ vegetarian food that I did not try.
A E — Google review
Toslow is my go-to for a vegan breakfast and the hands-down best coffee I've had in St John's. The groovy vibe of local crowd hangout, Nanny's basement, and childhood summers at the cabin makes this place cool and inviting. The location on Duckworth Street, the harbour views from the upstairs picture window, and the gracious and engaging staff make this place, for me at least, a must-stop when in St. John's. And carnivores rest easy, the menu has you covered. We had the vegan Griddle sandwich made from scrambled tofu and vegan sausage and cheese, wholly caramelized in maple syrup. And the BLT on housemade focaccia. And, you guessed it, the BEST coffee! Five stars all around.
Pamela J — Google review
Stopped in for a vanilla latte and a flat white, and ended up getting a full-on coffee education from the barista — who was equal parts skilled and entertaining. Honestly, I think I learned more about beans and milk textures in five minutes than I did in four years of school. We took our drinks upstairs, where the vibe is cozy, a little old-soul, and the kind of place you could easily “accidentally” spend an afternoon in. The coffee was excellent, the atmosphere even better — and if I could hire that barista as my personal coffee tutor, I’d never touch a drip machine again. Highly recommend for anyone who likes their caffeine with a side of character.

As a coffee connoisseur, I feel very proud to say that this was some of the BEST coffee I have ever had. I had an iced vanilla latte and it was delicious. The breakfast sandwich was okay, there was mustard and onion on it which threw me off but the turkey avocado BLT on focaccia was heavenly. Definitely want to go back to try the other sandwiches! Highly recommend.

Nice coffee shop in the middle of downtown. It is spacious and quiet. An ideal coffee shop to open your labtop and do some work. It is in Atlantic place, and you can set outside on the patio of the building facing the harbor.

I decided to get a chai latte, it was decent enough. Maybe a little too much milk but it was fine. Price is comparable to Starbucks or other coffee-centrique competitors. Seating is fine in the actual store but there are really, nice scenic locations all around The Atlantic Place so I would advise drinking your drinks in the mall. They also had a variety of their own products which is a nice addition. Overall, if you are a fan of coffee or tea, I would at least give it a try once and see if you like their roasts.

Went with a large group. Staff didn't seem prepared to handle 18 people. Food to close to an hour to arrive. Portions were small, price wasn't! Dishes arrived with no plate appeal. Just meals no garnishing and folks that got meals first were done eating by time last plate arrived. Complaints of over salted was common. Establishment could use some decor and decorations that consist of more that painting hung on wall with for sale stickers along side... Overall not pleased with lunch menu choices. Though supposed to be inspired by worldly dishes it seems to be more Mediterranean sprinkled with local options. Expected better.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal. Gary the server was friendly and very helpful. This restaurant truly has a variety of Newfoundland dishes and the pan fried cod was as fresh as one could ask for. The restaurant could use a more extensive wine list.

Lovely atmosphere and fantastic food. Service wasn't the most attentive (some members of the party wanted more drinks but waitress never returned during our meal), and since the place was mostly empty this seemed a bit off putting. However, overall I generally enjoy visiting this restaurant and will certainly go again.

Atmosphere, clever menu, top notch service, creative bar. Have come here on business annually for past 3 years, experience always consistently positive. One of my top 5 fav restaurants in the world. Really! Put yourself in their hands and you will have a great meal experience.

After being in St John's now for ~6 weeks I must start leaving reviews because 4 & 5 starts are consistently handed out here to underwhelming restaurants. Bacalao is one of them. Went in early for Sunday brunch, table for 2. The good: place is cozy. My dish (George Street special) was fine but that's about it, nothing spectacular. The bad: Cappuccino was average (much better coffee can be found elsewhere in STJ). My GF ordered the omelette of the day and it was mediocre (and missing the mushrooms). We make much better omelettes at home! Finally, we had to wait ages for a waitress once we wanted to get the check. It was early and few tables occupied so no idea why the long wait. Lastly, almost $60 for 2 egg dishes and 2 coffees (including tip) seems overpriced considering the quality/taste. I suggest you go somewhere else for brunch.

Pizza is so Great!!! and also the salad! Must try. All the staff are nice and friendly. Meatball pasta is also a nice option. It is a great place to stay while traveling! ☺️

Absolutely fabulous the reviews lived up to the hype. We were lucky to get a table so book a reservation. Chicken n pesto pizza was excellent. When there's nothing to take home you know it was good.

The best place in st John’s to have quality and most delicious pizza. Great options and delicious wine options. Do ask for Tim, very nice and hold good knowledge about the menu and wine. In the photo ignore the chilly flakes. (I love spicy). Must visit.

Honestly really impressed. The soup had way more flavour than I expected, super warm and comforting. Toast was perfectly crispy without being dry. The pizza was authentic in flavour and definitely so good I ordered a take home kit after, and it turned out great at home too. Service was friendly, and the atmosphere felt cozy but relaxed, will come back.

Went the other night and had the diavolo pizza which was extremely spicy. I usually love spicy pizzas but this one was too much and the spice overpowered all the other flavours of the pizza. The arancinis we ordered were okay, nothing more. The pasta was however, very good. Hoping to try a better pizza to my liking, I ordered the lunch special, margherita pizza and beet salad. The beet salad was great ! However, the pizza had a bitter taste to it which I didn’t enjoy. It might be the olive oil. I had high expectations for the pizza based off of all the reviews but I am unfortunately disappointed with them. I do recommend the pasta though. The service staff is also very kind which is a plus !
Synthia L — Google review
Service and atmosphere wasn’t bad, pizza was disappointing, decent char on top, but bottom of pizza was soft/white, undercooked. Tomato sauce was too wet, causing pizza to be soggy in centre, wasn’t enjoyable, the bottle of San Pellegrino was almost flat, taste identical to soda water served from fountain dispenser.
Ty P — Google review
Being something of a pizza snob, I never pass up an opportunity to sample the pizza at a AVPN certified restaurant. I'm glad to report that Piatto didn't disappoint. The crust was the perfect combination of crispy and chewy; the ingredients fresh. Service was prompt and friendly, the atmosphere lively and boisterous. A wonderful experience overall.

Bagel Cafe is a cozy spot on Water Street known for its all-day breakfast, bagel sandwiches, and eclectic decor. While some may have mixed feelings about the place, it's a popular choice for lunch catch-ups and post-night-out meals. The cafe offers a wide range of options including gluten-free choices and vegetarian/vegan dishes. Despite overpriced coffee and mediocre service, the everything bagel sandwiches and French fries are highly recommended.
Loved this place and all day breakfast.. its the best! They had a two for one lobster deal with side and a bottle of wine... i only got one lobster for me but it was great and yummy garlic better!! Recommended 100% Has a step up to get in but there were some small tables outside.

Visiting St. John’s for the first time.. was very happy to find this place. Tried the Newfoundland Benedict and Blueberry French toast which were both pretty good. I just wish there was actual maple syrup instead of table syrup. Will definitely come back.

We've been here twice, and both times the breakfasts were fantastic. Everything was delicious, and the portions were large. The sheer number of breakfast options is truly astounding. I recommend choosing your dish in advance, as you'll spend a lot of time perusing the menu. During peak hours, the restaurant gets completely full, so it's best to reserve a table—this place is truly worth a visit.

We visited **Bagel Café** on Duckworth Street and were delighted by the experience from start to finish. We ordered their *Big Hardy Breakfast – Perogies* (a breakfast plate with perogies, eggs, sour cream, bacon, peppers & onions, and toast) as our main, and added a side of fish cakes. We split the plates between us — which was the smart move, because we left completely full. The **portions are enormous** and very generous. The food itself was solid comfort fare — the perogies were hearty, the eggs cooked just right, and the side of fish cakes added a nice Newfoundland touch. Everything was flavorful, satisfying, and exactly what you want in a cozy breakfast spot. The atmosphere was warm and charming. We loved the **stained glass details** and the eclectic décor throughout the space. It gives the place character, and the cozy ambience makes it a fun spot to linger in while your food arrives. We did wait about **15 minutes** to get a table, but once seated, it became obvious why — the place has a steady flow of customers, and for good reason. The wait was well justified by the food and the experience. Overall, I **highly recommend** Bagel Café. If you go, come hungry — and don’t hesitate to share a plate or two. Great food, great vibe, and a must-visit for breakfast lovers in St. John’s.

Update: I came here again with my husband. I had a touton with molasses. Service was quicker and friendlier this time but the music is still really, really loud and the touton was really thin, dry and tasteless. I'm sure people love it here, but if you like a higher standard quality and taste, Bagel Cafe is not the place to come for it. The exterior, entrance and interior restaurant decor was eclectic and reminiscent of British/Irish pub style ambiance, with wooden and stone flooring, tables and booths and stained glass decor plus Tiffany style lamps. The restaurant was small, with booths and tables fairly close together but not so much as to feel crowded or uncomfortable. There was often a cold draft whenever patrons entered or exited due to the small size of the restaurant. The decor and lighting was subdued, ambiant and lovely; however, the music, although pleasant enough, was rather loud and at times made it difficult to hear my husband speaking which was somewhat annoying and uncomfortable. I had the Belgian Waffle (berry and banana) with bacon, a side of hashbrowns and a side of scrambled eggs and my husband had the Newfounland Benedict: 2 fish cakes, two eggs benedict, smoked salmon covered in hollandaise sauce with hashbrowns. For all I absaloutely loved the ambiance of the restaurant, the initial service was very slow (to take our order). The first waitress seemed rather irritated and unpleasant but the second waitress was very pleasant and accomodating. The food arrived more quickly than expected as well. I really, really hate giving these lovely little, local restaurants any negativity at all so I always focus on the positive first but the meal I had was very disappointing. The hashbrowns were really large potato cubes (bigger than I usually see as a hashbrown) and I'm unsure if they were cooked from frozen or not but they were not bad and there was a large quantity. The scrambled eggs were okay. There was no bacon at all (although it was supposed to come with my waffle). Unfortunately, the waffle itself was the most disappointing. It was very dry and crumbley (like it had been frozen and reheated in a microwave) and the berries were reheated from frozen and made the middle of the waffle soggy. The bananas were fresh. There was only cheap pancake (corn) syrup - no actual maple syrup - as well. My husbands meal, however was fantastic and delicious, aside from the hashbrowns. He also very much enjoyed the coffee. All in all, I would return again, but I will not go for the waffles, pancakes, French toast or toutons. I will most likely try a sandwich on my next visit. Hopefully it will be a better food experience.

We loved our breakfast here - had my first toutons ever, with my meal, which were delicious. The menu is staggering - so many options. We sat upstairs which I preferred, a bit quieter than the lower level. I would highly recommend this spot, we had a great experience - super friendly and helpful staff as well

Might be my new favourite breakfast place in my travels this summer. Love the eccentricity of everything inside this restaurant. The 80’s/90’s music playing was trippy. Serving staff were very pleasant, seating was quick. Food was fine. Ordered the Cabot Tower, not because I was heading back out onto the sea but because I could. Eyes were bigger than my stomach for sure, but didn’t care.

Bagel cafe. What’s there to really say? I kept waiting for someone to pop around the corner and tell me I’ve been punked. Me and my wife were visiting St. John’s from Toronto and we were told to go to this place a few times by the locals. Who am I to deny a good recommendation! The first red flag was when I saw a bottle of Pearl Milling company on the table. If that’s what we’re using for Maple Syrup then we’re in trouble. I ordered the french toast. Bland and stale. Bacon was alright but nothing to write home about. My wife ordered poached eggs bagel and fresh fruit with a small greek yogurt. I didn’t try it myself but she said it was mediocre. I will say the staff was super friendly and attentive so there’s that. But I cannot recommend Bagel Cafe.

Nestled in the picturesque town of Petty Harbour, Chafe's Landing Restaurant offers a quintessential Atlantic dining experience. This family-owned establishment has been a local institution for over a decade, known for serving up some of the best fish and chips in the region. The restaurant's unpretentious setting and commitment to freshness make it a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts.
Most of the food was tasty and plentiful. The service was fast. The best was the moose melt sandwich. Really delicious! We also had the lobster roll that was LOADED with lobster meat. It was tasty, unfortunately the bread roll was a lame store-bougt one (for a $30 price tag). Both orders came with loads of fries. The gravy sauce was really really tasty too. We also had the fish cakes, but those were a big let down. Tasted like fried mashed potatoes, no salt, and could not taste any fish on them. Not sure why they even call them fish cakes. Parking was very limited in front of the restaurant.

Amazingly delicious cod fish and chips... so fresh! The better was so light and fluffy, as was the fish! I definitely recommend it. Also tasted the fish cake and they were a generous portion and also delicious! Service was very nice. Outdoor patio was cute and is up a set of stairs.

We first visited Chafe’s Landing last year before the fire and loved the moose melt and moose mess—especially the moose melt. We went back yesterday hoping to try it again since they’re the only place we know that serves moose dishes, but unfortunately they didn’t have the meat this time. Instead, we had the moose sausages, fish and chips, and lobster roll. The moose sausages were delicious and worth the try, and the fish and chips were honestly the best we’ve had so far. The lobster roll was also great—we even forgot to take pictures at first because we couldn’t wait to dig in (our fish and chips photo is missing a piece, and the lobster roll has a bite in it 😅). Such a great spot with unique offerings!

My wife and I had the best Fish-n-Chips in NFLD and we have tried a few. My wife doesn’t like fish, but she ate it with pleasure and left her with the fondest of memories. The fish were so fresh and flaky. They were amazing. We also had the fish cakes, which were equally good. Their portions were huge. 5oz per piece of fish. The food there left us with such a good impression, we ended up sharing our experience with two other couples.

Dinner was delicious and exactly what we were looking for on our short weekend trip to Newfoundland! We had come to Petty Harbour because it was on our way back to where we were staying after visiting Cape Spear. What a great busy restaurant in a cute town. We can’t wait to come back on our next trip to Newfoundland. Also a congratulations to our server who was set to get married this weekend (hopefully it all worked out for your friend coming from out of country). We had the seafood chowder, fish cakes, kids cod bites and the fish and chips.

Excellent food! The young ladies hostesses could use some guidance. Asked to sit on the patio because it was a beautiful day. The ladies seating said there were no seats left and went to seat us downstairs. Asked to sit upstairs next so we could enjoy the view. They put us at the farthest table from the window by the bathroom. Only 1 other table upstairs was taken. She said we couldn't sit near the window. When our server came over, we asked to sit over looking the water. She said no problem. That is when we noticed 2 tables empty on the patio. One was filled about 15 minutes after we arrived and the other sat open our entire meal. Food was great but definitely puts a damper on your enjoyment dealing with people who are not welcoming. Our server had some great recommendations and glad we took them.

The food here is to die for!!! I recommend making a reservation as they are extremely busy but we got a table just by walking in! The staff were so friendly and the vibe of this place is amazing. They have live music as well! Parking is a bit difficult tho. 10/10 experience and i will definitely be back again! We had the cod tongues, lobster bisque and 2 piece fish and chips ❤️

Chafe’s Landing in Petty Harbour is an absolute gem! Probably the BEST fish & chips I’ve ever had — you can tell the fish was caught fresh that very morning. The batter was perfectly crisp, the fish flaky and flavourful. Do yourself a favour and get the fries with dressing and gravy — total comfort food heaven. Our server, Ben, recommended the moose sausages with their homemade mustard pickle, and wow… what a fantastic suggestion! The flavour combo was out of this world. This spot was featured on You Gotta Eat Here, and it’s obvious why. Great food, friendly service, and that authentic Newfoundland charm. A must-visit if you’re anywhere near Petty Harbour!

Bad Bones Ramen is a cozy spot on Water Street that has gained popularity for its delicious ramen and Japanese small plates. Despite being relatively new to the restaurant scene, it has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The restaurant offers a variety of slurpable ramen bowls, such as Pork Belly Tonkotsu with Duck Egg Noodle and Vegetable Shoyu with Mushroom Dashi and Rice Noodle.
Food was truly delicious - haven't had a meal I enjoyed this thoroughly in a long time. We were smiling ear to ear from the first sip of broth. The Pork Tantanmen was particularly yummy! Our waiter, whose name I sadly didn't get, was energetic, welcoming, cheerful, and happy to help explain any of the dishes we weren't familiar with. The atmosphere is very laid back and informal, which honestly just adds to the ambiance of the place. Not cheap, but the servings reflect what you are paying, my partner and I both got two meals out of our ramen bowls. We will definitely be back for more whenever we are next in town.
Owen B — Google review
Bad Bones Ramen provides great food, ample service, and a wonderfully unique and refreshing atmosphere. The chicken shoyu was a delight. The portions were generous, the ingredients were fresh, and the presentation was lovely. It was easy to see the effort put into the dish. The service provided was more than sufficient. I never had to ask for a refill on my water, and the waiter checked in often enough without being a nuisance. There was plenty of seating available during dinner hours. The dining area was clean, well-lit, and pleasantly quiet, allowing for proper conversation. The decor was good, and the staff music taste was on point. The ceilings near the bathrooms are a bit low, especially if you're a taller person like myself. However, that's a given for most buildings in the downtown area. I absolutely can't recommend this place enough. Considering the steep decline in quality for most other dine-in restaurants, Bad Bones absolutely knocks it out of the park in comparison. I will be eating here again in the future.
Nick B — Google review
We definitely enjoyed our ramen here. We had the pork belly shoyu. The broth is well developed and pork belly and egg were perfect. The broth is a little rich, and sits heavier than most ramens. It’s a few tweaks away to go from good to great, in our opinion. Service was good. We could see them working in the kitchen, and it was clean how much attention and care was given to presentation and preparing each bowl fresh. It was definitely worth the wait.
Alyssa B — Google review
This is such a lovely spot, and I have to say, the staff was so friendly! We came down during the pedestrian mall, and had no trouble finding a spot to sit down at around 1PM. Everything was decorated nicely, and it was really clean too. We ordered almost right away and had some dumplings, which were honestly my favorite! And before we could even finish those, we had our main dish come out. The broth was absolutely amazing, and all the toppings were fresh and cooked really well. Our server was so kind, and the atmosphere was wonderful! We seen a few people pick up some orders too, so if you didn't want to eat in, that seems like a great option.
Amber K — Google review
Bad Bones Ramen has a cute and fun location that immediately catches your eye. The ambiance is lively and inviting, making it a great spot for a casual meal or a hangout with friends. The staff here are excellent—friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile. However, while the atmosphere and service shine, the ramen itself doesn't quite hit the mark. It's not bad, but it falls short of the high expectations set by the rather steep prices. For the cost, one would anticipate a more memorable culinary experience. If you’re looking for a fun spot with great service, Bad Bones Ramen is worth a visit, but ramen aficionados might find the quality doesn’t justify the price tag.
Kenneth G — Google review
Generous with meat Cooked to perfection pork belly and chicken kastu The broth is tasty but not too salty. Overall the food is authentic at the meatier side( better for Canadians) . Also it's presentable topped up with lots of healthy veggies. We found our ramen place in this city!
Shuai H — Google review
Over the last 2.5 years I’ve tried all of their main broths - Miso, Shoyu, Tantanmen, and Dirty shrimp. Initially, they were pretty good; however, recently all of them have been bland and lacking in flavour. It has been a constant let down in the past year. Ironically, as their quality of ramen constantly decreased, their prices continuously increased, and it gets harder and harder to justify the price of their unappetizing ramen. Noodle Nami on Rowan St. has arguably better ramen for ~$4-5 less. The one good thing Bad Bones has going for them are their side dishes - they are a great bang for your buck. All in all, if you’ve ever had half-decent ramen in another city, I’d recommend you skip out on Bad Bones for your ramen cravings in St. John’s.
Wooje C — Google review
Exceeded my expectations. We ordered the Pork Tantanmen and Pork Belly Shoyu. Both had plenty of pork and a good amount of noodles and vegetables. Also added the homemade hot sauce which was sweet and spicy. It's not quite traditional but was quite good. Service was good and efficient for having only one person on staff for the whole restaurant. Decor was familiar for a ramen restaurant with the menu on a wall chalkboard and benches along the wall and chairs on the other side. Would definitely recommend.

Keith's Diner is a busy spot due to their great food at good prices. They have easy online ordering and great fish and chips, as well as wicked burgers.
This was one of the best, if not the best, fish and chips I’ve ever had. I’ve been in Newfoundland for a month and have been craving good fish and chips when someone recommended Keith’s Diner and boy was I not disappointed. The service was fast and efficient, the atmosphere of people was great and the food was delicious! The fish was nice and white, hot and the chips with the gravy were paired so well together. We also ordered the turkey soup and even that was delicious. If you have the chance to check Keith’s Diner out, do it, you will not be disappointed!

We ordered to pickup up, called to ask a few questions, we struggled a bit to get the call in but when they answered they were very nice and helpful. Food was delicious, we ordered online for four people: - 2 extra large fries - 2 large fish - 1 shrimp appetizer - 2 large gravy - 2 large dressing We had wash my to many fries left, one dressing and half gravy as leftover. And we all were super full. We picked up our food late ofter ready and we still drove for 20min before eating. Even with all this waiting the food was great! We love the fries seasoning with the breadcrumbs, I have never seen something like that on fires but we love it, very well seasoned with all the herbs. Greasy was amazing, fish was flaky and tasty. The only complaint is that the shrimps were quite small for the price. The service when picking up was also very nice and friendly, and they packed the food in a very nice way! I hope we can try them again dining in

Keith's will not disappoint! We had a small wait which we were given the buzzer for so we could wait in our vehicle. A short time later we were seated. The staff were all friendly and attentive. Met with waitress right away and was seated at a table. Shortly after being seated there was a large line of people waiting. Come early as this place fills up quickly. We ordered fish and chips - the fish was great but the fries were soggy and no flavour - Needed Salt or vinegar. They offer tartar sauce in packets - they need to make their own sauce as this is a fish restaurant. The price and fair for what you are getting. Waitress was quick and to the point.

Leo's Restaurant & Take-Out is a Newfoundland and Labrador fish and chips restaurant that serves up some seriously delicious food. The prices are a bit high, but the quality of the food makes it worth it. They could use more brine in their chicken marinade to give it a little more flavor, but overall this is a great restaurant.

One word describes this place… OUTSTANDING! If you’re from out of town, and searching for the BEST fish and chips, Leo’s is the place to be. Been in St.John’s for a week, so I’ve tried fish and chips elsewhere of coarse, no one beats Leo’s, had to come back several times to eat, only because I know it would be a while before having their fish and chips again. Literally a Momma and son spot, mom the owner serving you like you’ve know her your whole life and son cooking away. It’s a corner restaurant you’d think twice about walking into, don’t make the mistake, walk in and enjoy their fresh fish, absolutely friendly service and, not that it matters, best prices for the amount of food they offer. You will not regret it, a must try. ENJOY! The fish and chip picture I posted is a half portion I shared with my wife, so you have an idea.

Initial opinion on location is what seems to be a mom n pop fish and chips store. The furniture is a bit old but does the job. The food was fresh prepared, and it took around 10 minutes from order to delivery. However, it did not disappoint. I had the large fish and fries with all the fixing. Had all the wonderful flavors and fixtures you would want in a St. John's fish and chips. I would think the plate is sharable as I was full from lunch to dinner!

When I said to the person behind the counter “it’s been 20 years since I’ve been here” she replied “we haven’t changed!!”. I’m so glad that was true. The fish n chips were exactly how I remembered them: the BEST in St. John’s!!

I found out about Leo's when I watched a number of Mark Royle YouTube videos about Newfoundland fish and chips. Along with all his other recommendations Leo's didn't disappoint. The fries had a different taste than the other fish and chip places that I loved. The staff were friendly and welcomed me as newcomer with characteristic Newfoundland hospitality. Leo's is a must try when in St. John's.

Since it’s in Newfoundland and I have been to other fish places I have to give it a 3-star. If this restaurant is in Toronto I’ll give it a 4. I went to Ches’s next door and it’s a solid 5. The waiting time is very very long although there aren’t many customers. Food is semi burnt. The fish is soggy. Batter is also soggy. Staff not pleasant. Fries are so-so. Gravy has a burnt taste, it’s thick but it’s tasteless. Fish (cod) is good but the soggy batter ruins it. My suggestion is to go to Ches’s next door instead. Ches’s is cheaper too.

It was ok poutine . The gravy had abit of a herbal/ natural medicinal taste to it and was abit runnier than id like. Id pass by next time. Glade i stopped though since ive heard so much about Smoke’s otherwise id wish i had. Cheers!

Hands down, the best poutine experience I've had in St. John's! The fries were crispy, the cheese curds were squeaky, and the gravy was rich and flavorful. But what truly elevated this dish was the exceptional service provided by Vidhey. His friendly demeanor and dedication to crafting the perfect poutine made the entire experience even more enjoyable. If you're looking for a delicious and satisfying meal, I highly recommend Smoke's and be sure to ask for Vidhey.!!!! Cheers 😊

2 stars cuz it was quick. Cheese curds were absent, bacon was… grey? Fries were undercooked.

Very dark inside, even in the middle of the day. Smelled kind of musty or moldy, so we elected to eat outside. Dispensers were out of napkins and forks, which just complimented the general vibe that this place has passed its prime. Regular poutine was decent, and the cheese curd was fresh and squeaky. Even so, it was just kind of “meh” and I didn’t feel compelled to eat it all (nor did anyone else in the group, which was strange). Water Street, in general, just feels tired and on the downside of what it once was. It was kind of depressing for lunch hour on a Monday.

As someone new to Canada, this is the poutine place we were recommended, and the first place where we had poutine and liked it. We tried the traditional one, for starters - will update as I get to try other stuff they offer. You cannot miss Smoke's Poutinerie while walking down Water Street - it's a nice place, colourful and clean. Understaffed, as we saw only one person working, but considering we were the only customers - fair enough. The walls are painted with pop culture references and quirkiness - and so are their promotions. Otherwise, there's not much to talk about atmosphere - feels mostly generic.

This place is probably your best bet to get a good poutine downtown. The only other one I've had that's downtown that I would consider better is at the Mary Brown's Centre. Firstly, the service was awesome. I didn't catch the guy's name but he was the only one working on a Friday night, and he was killing it. He was fast and friendly and everything was fresh. The atmosphere was okay. The bathroom is where I had an issue. There was no hot or warm water. Like no water came out when you turned the tap. There was barely any soap left, and there was no toilet paper or paper towel in there. However it was pretty busy and the guy was working alone so you can't fault him. The dining area was clean though. The food was actually good! The fries are really tasty! We got the boneless chicken wings and they were gross. They're just frozen chicken nuggets from Costco, the chicken has a disgusting texture. Our poutine also had a piece of cardboard in it. I thought at first it was a piece of potato skin but as I was chewing it, I noticed it tasted really bad and was impossible to chew, so I spit it out .When I looked it was most definitely cardboard. That's disgusting. Overall I'd come here again and try a different time and a different type of poutine. Also the food in the photos came to $27 after tax for anyone who's wondering.

Unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. The poutine I ordered was of poor quality and didn’t meet my expectations, especially considering the high price I paid. On top of that, the strong ginger flavor in the poutine was completely unexpected and wasn’t mentioned anywhere on the menu. When I raised the issue, they replaced the poutine, but unfortunately, the new one had the same problem. In the end, when I asked to speak with the management, they decided to refund the full amount, which I appreciate. I hope this restaurant focuses more on food quality and ensuring it aligns with the menu descriptions in the future.

I must admit, this restaurant seems to be quite underrated in the area. Although the prices may be a bit high, the portion sizes are generous enough that you'll likely have leftovers if you can't finish your meal. The food at Wok Box - Kelsey Drive is truly exceptional; I had the pleasure of trying their Kung Pow Noodles and they were perfectly cooked with just the right amount of spiciness and bursting with delicious flavors.
The food at Wok Box is absolutely delicious! The flavors are vibrant, portions are generous, and the variety caters to every taste. Highly recommend for anyone craving a flavorful meal!♥️

I'm going to say it...this has to be one of the most underrated restaurants in the area. The prices are a little on the expensive side, but the portion sizes are pretty big, so if you don't finish your meal, you have leftovers! The food is really, really good here. I got Kung Pow Noodles, they were just the right level of spicy, bursting with flavour, and cooked to perfection. The service is also really good, the staff are friendly and helpful! I definitely recommend stopping here for a delicious supper or lunch!

Used to be favourite Asian restaurant, but over the last few years the food quality has gone way down. The chicken resembles processed rubber rectangles and the soy eggs are no better, rubbery hard eggs. It’s a shame this restaurant used to be really something.

Meal was flavorful and I liked the texture of the vegetables. It was easy to order and cashier was knowledgeable, patient and helpful. Price was fair. I was going to give 3 stars because the server repeatedly adjusted their covid mask and rubbed their nose with bare hands while touching my food items; but I wanted to be fair to the other staff and the restaurant itself so I'm giving 4 stars.

Lots of options to choose from. I haven't had a bad meal here once in the many times I've been here. While it is similar to fast food in many ways, it feels more substantial and healthy.

Located on Torbay Road, Peters Pizza offers fast and friendly service with delicious food. The staff is well-organized and the new location provides a pleasant dining experience. Customers have enjoyed the fresh and tasty pizza, particularly praising the real bacon slices and high-quality sauce. Additionally, the breaded wings are a favorite among patrons despite initial confusion about their availability. Overall, Peters Pizza is worth a visit for its great food and excellent customer service.
Stopped in for the pizza special, did not disappoint. Fella at the counter was very friendly and even recommended the garlic sticks which we added. It was a great pizza, only took about 10-12 minutes and was very good! Recommend stopping by when it’s time for Pizza!

Ordered with door dash Torbay road location - AWESOME. Got a large pizza with pepperoni and Italian sausage and bacon and ground beef, was loaded with toppings , super thick , lots of cheese , crust was fluffy and pizza was perfectly cooked , got the large pizza with 2 litre of Pepsi for 36$ with door dash delivery , came within 30 minutes , I ordered from Venice pizzeria and got large meatlovers a month ago was 37 bucks and the pizza was thin and tiny tiny slices almost like a little caesars pizza , wasn't happy , but this Peter's pizza was amazing and will be my new pizza place as I'm new around here , always got donatis donairs but never tried their pizza , but if you want a good pizza with lots of toppings for a decent price id order from the Peter's on Torbay road , not sure what the others are like but this one was awesome

HUGE PIZZA SLICE was great as usual, however, only 2 stars overall because of that Peters Home Made Lasagna!! First time trying & it was horrible!! Not as bad as the sour/moldy noodle one I've had elsewhere, but this was gross on different aspects!! Very mushy, over cooked noodles, the meat sauce was a little spicy & the cheese on top barely melted down fully. Appreciate the chunk of homemade bread, but there was barely any garlic butter for "garlic bread," ill be retoasting and properly buttering that. Peters Home Made Lasagna was extremely unappetizing, recommend they revamp that product or remove from menu!!

Peters Pizza Torbay Road is my go to Pizza spot and has been for a long time. Their sauce is amazing and the toppings are always generous. They also have some other favourites like their burger which is a big old-fashioned style burger with way bigger than any quarter pounder anywhere else. The delivery is fast. It’s the only pizza I eat.

I rarely complain, even if food is not up to par. But this was bad, very bad. I picked up my order, and my pizza was burnt very badly. Not just a bit over cooked, the crust was completely black. Although I hate to complain, I had to this time. When I took it back to the counter, I showed them and politely requested another pizza. The person behind the counter looked at me with disgust, looked very surprised, and kind of shook their head like, "How dare you!". I was shocked as I thought they would just apologize for the mistake and give me a new pizza. They did agree to give me a new pizza but said they were very busy and it would take "a while." We waited for almost an hour and watched five people come in and order (not pick up a pre-order) and get their food before us. People were getting lasagna, wings, burgers, pizza, etc. They all received their food before us, even though we were just waiting for a basic pizza. After this, I requested a couple of drinks while we waited and was told someone would be with me in a minute. I waited for another 10 minutes, but there were still no drinks, no pizza. I went up to the counter again and requested drinks and, again, was told someone would be with me in a minute but in a snarky tone this time. I asked if there was a manager I could speak to, and they pretended not to hear me. Then they asked me what we wanted to drink and I told them. They said we would have the drinks in a minute, and the food would be about 15 more minutes. Another 15 minutes go by, no drinks, no pizza, surprise, surprise. I've been waiting well over an hour at this point, and again, I requested to speak with the manager or person in charge. They said "one minute please" and seemed to think it was funny. I waited for 10 more minutes, still no drinks, no pizza, no manager, so I left as it was evident that they were messing with us for complaining about a burnt pizza. We waited for almost two hours (this was on top of the time we waited for the pizza after we initially ordered). I tried phoning and requested the manager to call me, but no one has called. One of the people I spoke with on the phone said that even if I do have the receipt (for the pizza that I never received), it doesn't matter, and that it was my fault for not waiting for it at the time of order. I'm still hoping that the manager will call me oneday to resolve this. But at this point, it's highly unlikely that they will call. I've cut my losses. I guess I just should have eaten the burnt pizza and been happy with it.
Jimbo — Google review
Service was fast, fresh, and friendly. And the food was delicious. The wings do come breaded, which is my favorite. When I asked the guy on the phone he must have misunderstood what it was that I was asking, and said the wings do not come breaded. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least!

Tim Hortons is a popular Canadian chain known for its premium-blend coffee, light fare, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches. With multiple locations near Memorial University's St. John's Campus, it offers convenient access to its offerings. Often likened to the Starbucks of Canada, it provides quick lattes and snacks for those on the go. While some customers have reported issues with their orders at specific locations, others praise the consistent satisfaction of their coffee and pastry pairings.
I am a coffee aficionado. A medium double-double with a Boston cream donut would be an ideal pairing. The combination is consistently satisfying. The service was efficient, and the order was delivered promptly.

CATHY S — Google review
I’m a student who goes there regularly for lunch and breakfast most days and for all 3 years have never had an issue. We understood the rules, if we wanted to stay we’d have to buy something. As usual the other for our free period we walked to Tim’s and sat down bought a couple coffees and proceeded to sit and chat. It is important to say the store was fairly empty, there were multiple empty chairs and we were not causing any issues (this was confirmed as we left by another customer who saw the ordeal) one of the workers (an assumed manager) came over and proceeded to berate us for allegedly not buying anything and when we showed her our drinks she then doubled down said we were not allowed to bring outside drinks (a water bottle and an already open energy drink that was not even being drunk it was just open on the table). Now do I believe she was right about the drinks yes? But a simple reminder would have sufficed as opposed to screaming at us to the point where the whole store went silent was not okay. As someone who spends over a $100 there weekly to the point where most of the workers know my order I clearly understand the rules. I have always been gently reminded to buy stuff never berated harshly. And if I have already bought stuff and show them they’ve always apologized. I would have understood if the store was full as we were no longer buying anything but there were empty seats and they’re busy hour (our school lunch time) would not have been for another 20 minutes and we would have left by then. If you go to holy heart and want Tim’s go to church hill instead.

A post shared from Facebook I figured people deserve to read how ridiculous they are! So I’m at Tim Hortons on Harvey Rd about 4:45 this morning. Ordered a coffee and when I pulled around to the side to pay I noticed a man sitting over on the curb so I asked for another coffee and immediately the guy said if ur buying for that homeless guy over there I can’t serve you. I told him it was for a friend. He said I know u are buying it for that guy ( he said we are not allowed to serve the homeless). He is assuming the man was homeless He also said if u give it to him that I would not get served there anymore and he would remember me. Has it really gotten that bad around here. So whatever happened to the Newfoundland and Labrador that people say are the nicest people in the world.

Ordered a lg tea off the mobile app only to later discover it didn’t have the 3 milk or 3 sugar I requested to have in the drink so when I brought it back 20 mins later they didn’t even bother offering me the basic courtesy of remaking a new one just added the missing components to the already cold drink. Gross. Avoid this location

Tim’s is my go to place for everyday food and coffee ! So as I go to Tim’s I do survey regularly from my receipts. Today as usual I went to this particular tims and I wanted a French vanilla and I showed my survey code from my phone which I do regularly and they refused to give me the discount. I told the employee I always show the code from my phone I never carry receipt every other tims accepted my coupons and gave me the coffee for $1. I had to explain myself to both their supervisor and employee for the survey coupon. I’m really disappointed and dissatisfied with their service. Their customer service is very poor I must say . I would highly recommend them to improve their service.

This Tim's and a worker threatening to ban a customer because of him trying to buy a homeless man food or coffee. Shame on you, it's very discriminatory to lump in all homeless people with troublemakers, and to threaten to ban people who want to help the homeless with a cheap drink or meal is beyond lowest of humanity, you guys better speak to your employees or change your tune, because this is getting sent off to the media to expose just how discriminatory some staff at this tims can be. It's a sad world. Check your privilege and do better because that could be you homeless one day.

Went through the drive thru yesterday and ordered two bagels toasted - one with butter, one with cream cheese. Received 2 bagels - not toasted one bit!!!!! 2 dry bagels with a big hunk of cream cheese and butter on them. Only because I was in a rush to be somewhere, I would have went back in total disgust. I frequent here 2-3 times a day most days and have had it with how often my order is wrong but this was the ultimate let down. Do better. There is no customer service or remorse for anything at this location anymore.

I ordered for delivery, fish bites, chips deluxe. I'm disappointed with my meal. Everything looked great, until I went to eat the fish bites. My fish bites were mostly batter. I can't believe that the restaurant would let that leave as an order. Also, the complete order took over 1 hr and 30 mins to come, and I actually had to call to see, how much longer, the order was going to be. I believe it was really busy there, but the time it took to come, and the fish being mostly batter, with very little, to no fish inside, is shameful. This is the first time I've ordered from here, and I really think it is the last. Don't waste your money here, its not worth it. The phone call was filled with crackling and static, on their side. Just stay away.

Stopped on the way home for 4 small fries to go with supper. Seriously??!!!!!, the fries were so dried out I'd swear they were from yesterday. And the amount of "scraps" in them looked liked they dumped whatever didn't get tossed last night on the tray as well. (Photo shows the "scraps" in a tray of ONE SMALL FRIES) Definitely not returning ever again. Should have just done McCains bagged fries. The food is usually decent and the service is friendly; however, they don't live up to their slogan offering big servings. Sometime during the spring or summer of 2025, they reduced the portion size of many dishes by ~25% (4pc chicken strips is now 3pc, etc etc) but they did not lower the prices - in many cases, the price also went up. Shrinkflation has ruined this restaurant; return the big portions and I'll go back.

Came here for Jigs Dinner and got what we were looking for. The restaurant is not particularly fancy like many of the places you'd see on Water Street, but I'd suggest it's kind of ideal if you're looking to try jigs dinner during a visit to Newfoundland. Unless you're a big eater, I'd suggest skipping on the turkey or roast beef as you get a lot of food with he basic dinner (salt beef, a big carrot and potato, some turnip, boiled cabbage, and pea pudding).

Ziggy Peelgoods Famous French Fries has been a beloved fixture in the St. John's food scene since 1986, delighting locals and visitors alike with their mouthwatering fries. Known affectionately as "Ziggys," this iconic eatery operates several mobile locations, including a permanent spot conveniently situated next to George Street, where taxi drivers often gather.
I recently visited Ziggy Peelgoods Fries, and while the service was top-notch, the fries left much to be desired. The staff was friendly and efficient, making the experience pleasant at first. The fries were served piping hot, and they were impressively fresh. However, within about 5 minutes, they became a soggy mess, turning into one big greasy clump. The undercooked potatoes contributed to the unpleasant, mushy texture, making them almost inedible. Unfortunately, the quality of the fries didn't match the level of service, and I was left disappointed.

I’m not sure if there has been a change to the bacon, but the last two times I got a poutine it was pretty gross. It was gray the first time, and it tasted off, kind of like bologna, the second time. Seems like this location is trying to save a few bucks on food costs and it’s very noticeable. I was a regular but I thought about a poutine tonight and the thought of the bacon kind of turned my stomach… guess I won’t be back.

The quality of the food (at least at this location) has taken a nosedive over the past few months. I used to buy here once a week, but after the food I've been served this summer I am going to refrain for now. I will probably give them another try in the new year to see if they've addressed the issue(s). The fries taste different, I don't know if they are using a cheaper blend of fries or if the staff isn't preparing them properly. I would guess that at least once, the fries weren't par fried.

Big disappointment at the lake's free concert. By far the worst time I had ziggy fries. Might as well have not got gravy i paid for because my fries were dry, burnt. Long time ziggys fan too :(

This place used to have decent poutine but has obviously taken a nose dive. I should've known I was in for a bad time when my poutine order stunk up my car on the drive home. When I got home I was confronted with pale fries that looked extremely undercooked but simultaneously tasted reheated. The gravy was like water - it was near flavourless and had sunk instantly to the bottom of the box. I was starving so I started eating it anyways; this was a big mistake because it gave me severe stomach ache before I got halfway through. Disgusting and disappointing. The food is not even the only thing that has gone downhill - the interior is falling into disrepair, and a large pile of dirt had been left in the middle of the floor. I won't be back.

Mustang Sally's Flaming Skillet, located in downtown, has transformed from a late-night spot to a popular lunch destination. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes including wraps, stir-frys, pizzas, and nachos. Customers have praised the catering service for its diverse food options and accommodation of dietary restrictions. The $4 Taco Tuesdays and $10 Nacho Fridays are highly recommended with new flavors every week.
We hired Mustang Sally’s to cater our wedding and it was fantastic! They offered many food options even including things that don’t appear on their regular menu. And accommodating dietary restrictions was very easy with them. We got tacos and sliders, and they were so good that the wedding guests were constantly complimenting the food for the rest of the night, saying how good it all was. The owners offered full service where they would serve everyone their food, but we requested for the food to be dropped off at the wedding venue, and they were super down to do it that way too. They accommodated 100 guests for us, and were very budget friendly. I highly recommend this choice as a caterer.

Went in at 12, left at 12:30 so I wouldn’t be late back to work. Spent my break standing in line, now I’m going the rest of my day hungry. Acropolis Pizza is a go-to spot for satisfying late-night cravings, especially after a night out. Their single slice pizzas are generously sized and offer great value, making it an ideal choice for post-bar eats. The bacon, pepperoni, and cheese slice is particularly popular as it's essentially two giant slices in one box. If you're feeling indulgent, the large pizza with abundant toppings is a must-try.
Great Pizza, Great Prices, and Great People Walked in today and a very nice lady gave me a heartfelt welcome and we had a big ol' conversation, and they great pizza! never seen a place like this, usually too good to be true. 5 stars would recommend to pizza lovers.

This place just hits the spot every single time. Every single time should be described as post bar and late night eats. The single slice late night pizza is damn good and the value is also amazing. I got one bacon, pepperoni, and cheese slice that is essentially two giant slices for $6.50. it is served in a small pizza box because it is so large. If you have a fat soul, you will be happy af finished both slices. Otherwise, just eat one slice and save the other half for tmrw. The pizza is covered in giant pepperoni slices. When I say covered, I mean every single inch of that pizza, below the main crust, is covered in pepperoni. I lifted this to check. Then the pepperoni is completely covered in cheese. Finally, the slices of bacon. The bacon is sparse at times but that is the only fault I can give this pizza. Service is quick. Pizza is hot. Crust is the perfect chew and crunch. I always get this when I am in the area. I can only imagine losing my mind if I get the pizza fresh from this establishment.

If you haven't tried the pizza at Acropolis, you really haven't had a great pizza! We were visiting the St. John's area for the boys' Baseball Canada 18U National Championship games and wanted to try some of the local restaurants. This was by far the best pizza ever! The toppings are more than generous, crust was cooked to perfection, and the staff are great. Before our pizza was ready, people were coming in for 2 slices of pizza. I was thinking to myself, how are they going to fill up on 2 slices?? Well, they can. Two slices of a small pizza were enough to fill me up. If there were more 🌟 to give, they would definitely get them. It is definitely worth the money!

I came to visit for a week. We stopped here to try the donairs and WOW they are so good. 4/7 days I was here, I had a donair from Acropolis and it was awesome every time. The pita they use is the best, the meat to veggie ratio is also on point.

Horrific price to portion. This was $12 like are you kidding me???? For $12 I’m expecting to get actual food, not a petite snack. Do not go here and waste your money.

A fast-food establishment called A&W Canada offers its signature root beer along with burgers, chicken, and fries. This particular outlet stands out for its exceptional customer service, as the staff is remarkably friendly, accommodating, and attentive to patrons. They serve meals with a warm smile and without any grievances. The store's cleanliness is commendable, maintaining high standards of hygiene. Their coffee is consistently fresh and surpasses that of local or well-known coffee chains.
I dined in at A&W on Torbay Road and ordered the Teen Burger Combo with onion rings. The food was fresh and tasty, the staff were very polite, and the store was clean and welcoming. Great experience overall!

Continuing on my quest to try every Beyond Burger from A&W. This one was a bit of a let down. It was pretty dry....specifically the bun. The onion rings also tasted like they were sitting for a while. Super friendly staff though!

Onion rings kinda warm some of them crushed. Teen burger with coupon was great 2 for 11.99 . They were tasty . Should get abit more bacon . And top off of root beer. Happy st Patty's day bys.

I went in for a drink. I was disappointed that there are root beer floats available. The frosted mug root beer was good. They were doing a complete dining room clean so the dining room was nice and clean.

I am writing this review to bring this matter to the attention of the management. I visited the store the other night, and the service was extremely slow—even though it was already midnight. What stood out to me was that the staff member was working alone. I believe this is not only unfair but also unsafe for the employee. No one should be expected to handle everything by themselves during late-night hours. For the safety of your staff and the quality of customer service, I strongly suggest either assigning additional team members during these shifts or closing the store at night altogether.

The tables need to cleaned better but I believe since they mostly get drive through customers they are busy with that. But overall they were very friendly staff

I went there to pick up my order and I waited for more than half hour for my order and when I went inside to ask why they are taking so much time I was shocked to see that they only had staff of 2 people. For god sake please I have request to there management and owner please don’t misbehave with your employees. I am trying to contact AMC also so that they can ask there owner why they are misbehaving with their labour.

Always a pleasurable experience going to any A&W, But this one takes the cake for me. The people here are super friendly. They always have such a great attitude, & are so caring towards their customers. Bringing food to the table with a smile and without complaint, I love it. Store cleanliness is on point. Coffee is always fresh, and honestly better then other local, or big name coffee shops. Great atmosphere. Will be back.

Topsail Road Pizzeria & Lounge is a popular spot for delicious pizza in NL. The pizzas are known for their generous toppings, tasty sauce, and crispy crust. While they don't have many premade specials, building your own pizza is easy. Customers love the great prices and consistently flavorful pizzas. The cozy atmosphere adds to the overall experience, making it a perfect place to enjoy some pizza and beer on a Friday night.
After introducing my kids to a pizzeria in Florida over vacation they’ve been trying to find a pizza that they like the same same here. This is twice sense we got back from Florida we’ve had TRP (once in person and once delivered) and both of my kids said that we have to rate it at 10 out 10. Delivery was less than a half an hour to the East End and the pizza is still hot A medium pizza was enough to feed me and both kids twice. This time we decided to go with an extra large so we have extras for our movie night and breakfast lol The only downside to eating in is it’s a small area and once the door is open, it gets cold quickly. This is obviously not a problem During spring and summer.

I worked with a guy who was very good friends with the owners, he had the make up a one-off garlic fingers dish and jokingly named it after him! Well, he suggested that I go there, tell them I worked with him and ask them to make this one-off garlic fingers for me. So off I go, present myself and proceed with my request. Everyone got a chuckle out of it but they did make me this special dish. Out of respect for them and my friend, I won’t divulge the name to protect the innocent! I ended up with a delicious meal, had a good laugh and I may return in the future for another try!

I didn't think that a bad pizza existed... Until I tried this place. The bread was like cardboard, the sauce is tasteless and for as much cheese as they throw on the pizza, it makes no difference to the flavor. My husband and I wanted to try a new place for take-out but ultimately regretted our decision when we got two pies that were NOT what we had ordered. Truly the worst place I have eaten out in St. John's since living here. Do not recommend unless you enjoy slightly wet cardboard.

This place is a disgrace they haven’t got one order right. My wedges are always raw same with my hash brown. There’s no bacon on my sandwich when I pay for extra bacon. My ice coffee so never filled to the top and are so water down. Had to wait 30 minutes for one pack of wedges that weren’t even cooked and forgot my chipotle sauce. If I knew that you had to pick the potatoes out of the ground wouldn’t have gotten it. The manger has a very rude tone. Doesn’t make me feel welcomed. No ice caps. It’s Overall terrible and slow service had to order McDonald’s. Peridot

Food is alright but the service here is not great. They make you feel rushed and they seem to get frustrated with you if your order is large or a bit more difficult than a coffee and donut. Customer service definitely needs improving.

STOP asking me to park my car elsewhere to wait for a food item. This evening, two young workers asked me to leave the drive thru and wait elsewhere for ONE food item. I politely refused and said I would rather stay in the drive thru because there was no one else behind me. The young girl became infuriated with me and said something about "window time" and after continuing to refuse to move she slammed the window closed in my face. I had the food item in my hand less than 90 seconds later. I see absolutely NO reason you people should be asking paying customers to move their vehicle from the drive thru to wait. Ridiculous and rude staff as well didn't help. Do better.

I recently visited Tim Hortons, and I can’t say enough about how wonderful the experience was! The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient, greeting me with warm smiles that made my day. I ordered a classic double-double coffee and a maple dip donut, and both were absolutely perfect—fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I needed to kickstart my morning. The atmosphere was cozy, clean, and inviting, making it a great spot to relax or catch up with friends. I also appreciated how quick the service was, even during the morning rush. Mary's Diner is a popular counter-serve restaurant known for its delicious breaded chicken, wings, wraps, and signature potato wedges. It offers fantastic food and wonderful service in a sit-down fast meal setting. The diner in Newfoundland is highly recommended by visitors for its table service comparable to fine dining restaurants. Guests praise the fresh and delicious food, including homemade bread served with meals. Some exclusive items like homemade loaves of bread and chicken and waffles are available at this location.
Had the Batter's Box. It came to $29 with a drink. It included 6 pieces of chicken, taters or fries, 2 biscuits and gravy. It wasn't anything to write home about. Could barely taste any seasoning on the chicken or taters and if you don't like dark meat it's a total waste of money. There was only one white piece. The rest was wings and thighs and 1 leg. I can't comment on the biscuit as I never even bothered to try it. 🙄
Nic O — Google review
The food is fine, if you like Mary Browns you know what you’re getting, and I’ve always enjoyed it. My problem with this place is the truly awful staff. I have gone in just for take-out a couple of different times and there always seems to be an issue. First off the staff are usually pretty bad. They will all see you standing there waiting to order and will ignore you for more than just a few minutes, I think their goal is that you actually leave so they won’t have to serve you, which I have on more than one occasion here after having to wait over five minutes while the staff just looks at you occasionally while continuing to ignore you, great business strategy. When they do eventually serve you they are often saucy and barely pay attention to you. I have seen them punch in my order wrong on the computer many times and every time I have corrected them they act as though it’s your fault they got it wrong. Once after receiving my order I noticed my large gravy was missing when I got back to the car so I went back in to have it fixed they basically accused me of lying and leaving the gravy in the car before begrudgingly giving in and giving me what I ordered or “replaced it” as they said, they must of felt like they got the last laugh though as the large gravy was only half filled. That was the last time I went there and will be the last time I will go there. I may enjoy my Mary Browns but the “better than you atmosphere” of Mary’s Diner they can keep. I’ll just drive less than five minutes down the road the The Elizabeth Ave Mary Browns where you are served quickly treated with respect.

I ordered a chicken tenders combo and a spicy big Mary's combo. We got a Nashville Mary combo and spicy mary combo. When I informed server she informed me that I had in fact orders the Nashville chicken combo even though I know I said tenders along with my companion who also heard me say tenders. When I tried to push it, she retorted 'No. ' What a rude server.

They have completely updated the place and it looks great! It really has that old fashioned diner feel with a modern twist. The menu selection isn't huge but that's a positive....more attention to detail and quality. Our orders came quickly and the food was good. The best part of dining here was the service! The lady and the gent who looked out to us were very friendly and knowledgeable. They were very positive and upbeat and it was contagious! Great spot; I will be visiting again soon!

Fun to have Mary browns at a more sit down type restaurant. Had a few exclusive items like their homemade loaves of bread and chicken and waffles. The baked Mac and cheese is no longer available

Today was the promotion for the batter boxes to help Newfoundland Labrador wildfires so I figured I'd order a few boxes, three to be exact. Once I ordered through the Mary Brown's app they go through Uber so Uber will pick it up and deliver it to me, because the lineup was so long Uber didn't want to wait and went through three drivers that canceled on me. So they canceled my order and I went up there to pick up my order but it would have been another 2 hour wait even though I was already waiting 2 hours for the order from the beginning, I spent $131.30 to not have any food or no money because they wouldn't refund me. Unacceptable. Horrible, rude staff at 571 Torbay road. I was a loyal Mary Brown's customer for decades but I will never order Mary Brown's again after this horrible day.
Monique E — Google review
Poutine was tasty but the taters weren't as fresh as when I usually get them from other locations. The gravy was excellent though and so was the coleslaw. The service was good. Price was average. Menu had appealing choices and included an all day breakfast menu. I would not recommend to those in a wheelchair, most vegetarians and definitely not to vegans. The style of the diner was old fashioned (think 1950s/1960s) and had a jukebox. To be honest, it kind of made no sense to me because Mary Browns was invented in 1969 and jukeboxes were unpopular in the 70s. The restaurant played classic rock overhead. The restaurant appeared spacious, organized and clean, except for the table we were seated at which didn't seem washed down well and had rolled up paper from the straws on the window sill.
Renée M — Google review
Do not goto this location between 4pm and 8pm. As soon as they get busy the staff fall apart. They miss items, won't answer their phone, and dismissive to customers. If you show up and see a line just walk away, you will have a bad time.

Called for pizza at 12:50, at 1:45 I called the store back asking where my pizza was. They were extremely rude on the phone and swore it was already sent out, before hanging up on me. When visiting the Bonavista peninsula, a must-stop destination is Oh My Cheeses, the on-site food truck at Port Rexton Brewing. Originally starting at St. Johns Farmers Market and still present there, Oh My Cheeses has gained popularity by offering unique grilled cheese sandwiches like The Violet with blueberry jam, bacon, aged cheddar cheese, basil and balsamic glaze.
Not a grilled cheese fan, but Oh My Cheeses changed my mind! The cheese was fantastic, the bread toasted well, and the blueberry jam was the perfect sweetness. I am now a grilled cheese fan! They were also quick to fill your order and had a nice place to sit.

The name of this food truck lives up to its billing as their gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches are delicious! My family enjoyed our tasty lunch on the picnic tables in front of the truck, as we sampled some of their different sandwiches. As for drinks, we ordered some from the Port Rexton Brewing Co., which is located next door.

We went to the book fair at the old metrobus station on Freshwater Road. We decided to grab some lunch. I had the gull island (partridgeberry and brie). She had the cupids (old cheddar and blue berry ). Both were super tasty. Both were reasonably priced. I highly recommend going out of your way to go grab a sandwich there or anywhere they pop up :)

Grilled cheeses were incredible - soo many options but our favourite was the Gull Island (brie and partridgeberry on sourdough). Poutine was delicious and the street fries were also great - they came with green onion, cilantro and spicy mayo.
Mahdi G — Google review
Rather expensive grilled cheese. Expect to pay $9.25 to $14.00 for a sandwich with no sides. Parking problems. (There is very little, and the neighbours are clearly annoyed judging by the signage.) This is a trailer operating outside the bar. Seating is limited. It was clearly popular. Great paging system for when your order is ready. I had the Hot Mess sandwich and the Street Fries. Wouldn't order the street fries again. The Hot Mess was nice, but I didn’t leave full after spending $24. But it was a nice stop. The staff were friendly. We had a seat at one of the picnic tables outside in a nice evening breeze. I don't regret trying the place out.
Barrett D — Google review
The grilled cheese at Oh My Cheeses was absolutely delicious. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the cheese was gooey and satisfying. However, I did encounter a minor issue with the service. The buzzer system for letting customers know their food is ready seemed to malfunction after 15 minutes, leading to a slightly longer wait than expected. It would be helpful if staff could communicate this information upfront to avoid confusion. Overall, I would definitely recommend Oh My Cheeses for their delicious grilled cheese, but I hope they can improve their service to provide an even better experience for customers. Oh My Cheeses, located within the charming Quidi Vidi Brewery, is a must-visit for cheese lovers in St. John's. This popular food truck offers a delicious and diverse menu featuring creative grilled cheese sandwiches. From the classic to the daring, there's something to satisfy every palate. Menu Highlights: The Classic: A simple yet satisfying combination of cheddar cheese and butter on sourdough bread. The Bacon Jam: A savory twist with bacon jam, cheddar cheese, and caramelized onions. The Caprese: A Mediterranean-inspired delight featuring mozzarella, tomato, basil, and balsamic glaze. The Spicy: A fiery option with jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, and a spicy mayo spread. The Vegan: A plant-based treat with vegan cheese, roasted vegetables, and a tangy sauce. Enjoy with Your Furry Friend: Quidi Vidi Brewery's patio is dog-friendly, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious grilled cheese sandwich and a refreshing beer with your furry companion.

A big Kudos going out to employee, Paris, her manager, and all staff at Mary Browns, Topsail Road branch! I was just trying to make a special birthday for my beautiful hard working niece who just finished up a 12 hour (unpaid I will add) nursing clinical shift so she could come home and rest for her next day. Due to delays outside of their control (specifically uber eats and their unreliability with not one but two drivers) Paris successfully took charge and ensured a fresh meal was delivered! It is employees like these that need to be commended and appreciated! And for her to have the support of her manager was also amazing! In the end, it was worth the wait and the communication during was outstanding. Thank you all! I will also mention that they decided to refund my order which I do appreciate and did not expect, and will work with them to donate that to some less fortunate in our community. Be proud Mary Browns, Topsail Road!

Well I love Mary browns and their food is awesome as always. I am regular customer at different Mary browns but this is the first time I was at this branch. The employees are super nice and welcoming, and always have a smile on their face. I got fresh and hot food, perfectly fried and seasoned. I had a wings combo. Maria is an excellent person who took my order. (I left a review on tellMarysmg as well) But unfortunately I can’t recall the other person who brought the food to me. No loud noise in the kitchen, and it was not crowded either. It was raining and windy out and I was having my meal with a peace of mind. Good environment and recommended.

It was our first time ever eating Mary Brown’s chicken. We took forever to order because we did not know what we wanted to eat. The cashier was very patient and polite. We ordered Chicken Twists and a 4 piece chicken meal. They gave use 3 pieces of chicken instead of 4. We brought the box back to show them. They were very apologetic and brought us 2 pieces of chicken instead of 1. The manager came out to apologize after and asked us if we wanted more salad. We politely declined as we had plenty of food. The original and spicy chicken were delicious. It was moist and tender. I didn’t care for the deep fried tortilla as it made it super greasy. Customer service was superb.

Me and my friend Wilson and I were at the subway today down on Water Street, and a wonderful, beautiful, good-hearted woman bought me and my friend Wilson our sub. We had just sat down to eat our sub when a customer had come in and complained about his order. Apparently, he had placed an order through Doordash, and he had written special instructions to not have pizza sauce put on his wife's sub. However, they had put put pizza sauce on the sub. The customer wanted a new sub made for their mistake. However, the subway employee refused to replace his sub. The subway employee tried to say that it was Googles' mistake, not his. When you put special instructions on an order, it is the employee that is making your subs responsibility to make sure that your order is prepared correctly, Google is not the one making the order. The customer asked to speak with the manager, and the subway employee said he was the manager. This incident is greatly going to affect my review. The customer in this incident was completely right, and without question, a new sub should have been created for him. I don't know how this individual ever gained the position of manager. Customer satisfaction is #1. Once a customer adds special instructions to an order, Google doesn't change it. The subway employee has no choice but to see the customers' special instructions. Either the employee refused to read the complete order or didn't completely read the full order. I was greatly disappointed at the way this subway employee treated this customer. I would fire this employee if I were his boss. Employees like him are bad for businesses. I suggest that this employee give this customer a sincere apology. His order replaced and the employee terminated immediately.

I ordered a special on the app for three for two subs for my colleague and I as I've done many times before at other locations across Canada. I always just order it when I arrive at the store with the default stuff and then tell them what I want as they are making it. It's easier, especially with three different subs. But this guys says I can't change it one bit as he's making it in front of me and that I'm stuck with the default order. As a result we got a bunch of stuff we didn't want and didn't get the stuff we did want. We didn't even get cheese as it defaults to no cheese. The only reason I ordered on the app is Subway forces you to if you want the special. Don't make any mistakes ordering because it's cast in stone even if they haven't begun making your sub. How rediculous is it that they hire people this mindless. I've never encountered this at any other location and will never be going back to this location again because of it. I'm trying to make a complaint with the head office but it looks like this store is safe from complaints because like the store, the office seems to only employs robots that don't care if the customer is happy.

The food quality was not good enough compared to other outlet of subway. I have to use washroom, and I asked him to open it, but he told me that I have to order something before using it, what behaviour is this??. A person has a humanity in it, but he does not. When I ordered the food he was not good enough to describe what you are selling. I ate at other subway outlet and they sold egg and cheese whole day but he was not interested to sold so he refuse that it was available on breakfast as well, so unfortunately I have to choose another option. Furthermore, when I ate the food and told him to open the washroom he mentioned that it already opened, which he can told me before but he does not, which is not a good behaviour to tackle customer, worse experience ever in subway, never come again.

Sarker saad here, best if my name is known. February 28th 9 47pm I have ordered a meatball subway for a homeless guy. Now 1) why only one employee and 2) it’s a woman working at an unsafe zone. It’s sad to see one employee who could be in danger working in a bust up drunk zone with loud musics, drunk and homeless, pathetic environment. Come on subway, please keep your co workers safe. They have a life. To the sister who has served, your very strong and will minded to even cope through that environment.💪🏻

Came in Sunday Nov 2nd and got awesome service by the gentleman working! Tasty as hell meatball sub!

Awful customer service. He did not even allow me to use the washrooms before thinking of ordering. Definitely never go to this specific subway. I am really disappointed of their behavior. Respect yourself and never go there.

Wendys is a fast food chain in Newfoundland and Labrador that serves burgers made with fresh, never frozen beef. The chain also offers fries and a 99 Frosty Deal.
We don't have a Wendy's in Corner Brook so naturally, every time we take a trip to st John's I HAVE to stop at Wendy's for a baconater 🤤 I always find that Wendy's burgers are far superior than the other fast burger joints. Nice and juicy like they just came off the BBQ in my backyard! Please bring Wendy's to Corner Brook, I'm already craving it again 🥹

Excellent, fast, friendly service by terrific staff. Delicious food. Laid-back, relaxed atmosphere (we did not arrive during lunch or supper rush, it may be different during those busy times) was lovely to sit, take our time and enjoy our meal together there. We need this Wendy's (or just a Wendy's with the incredible staff that makes this one incredible) closer to home.

Staff is fast and the food is great, but the staff dont seem to like their jobs,I seen the eye roll when me and my kids walked in...but still showed fast service so I cant be mad

The restaurant and food was good for a fast food place but the service I got was horrible. The girl with multicoloured hair at the register not only got my order wrong but was also barely paying attention to me as she ate candy staring off into space while taking my order. Great restaurant would recommend if not for that horrible employee.

Hi … I came in at around 4:45pm on Wednesday July 2 . Theres this old lady with boy cut who works here ,she was not even wearing a name tag i think that how she works ,so that nobody knows her name …, she is very illmannered and doesn’t know how to work in customer service and she made fun about my name and appearance in front of her staff ,thinking I won’t understand, but i did and then she started laughing. Not expected this from Wendy’s….Can do better…This is how u lose loyal customers..never coming back on this location again because the staff doesn’t care about customers at this location…Never coming back at this location ever again!!!!!!!!!!!!! and so should everyone ..

This location is scamming customers. Over charged me on my order by 60 cents and even the staff couldn’t explain it, no refund for over charged amount and no receipt given.

Always love the triple cheese burger and chilli. Imo it's the best fast food burger. And so much meat in the chilli (in general). You can ask for extra hot sauce. Sometimes you get a bit more beans/veggies, most times good amount of meat, love it. Frosties are just soft serve that's a bit softer than normal, and melts a bit so you can use a straw after. Excellent. Clean, well lit restaurant. Pro tip, when refilling your drink add some frosty at the bottom for a perfect float. Awesome.

McDonald's is a well-established and popular fast-food chain recognized for its burgers and fries. While their service is generally commendable, it may not be the absolute best. Occasionally, there might be a wait to interact with a staff member, given that this particular location in Newfoundland experiences high foot traffic. However, if they consistently had someone working at the cash register and displayed friendliness similar to an employee named Reg, their service could reach unparalleled levels of excellence.
I wouldn’t normally review a McDonalds, except this one was exceptionally impressive. - it was impressively clean - they were kind, welcoming, with genuine smiles - they were quick and efficient - it was the best constructed and best tasting breakfast sandwiches we had had from McD’s - and that’s saying a lot. So whatever they are going here to raise the bar - well done.

I had a good experience at McDonald's! The food was hot and hit the spot—classic flavors that never disappoint. The restaurant was clean, well-organized, and had a welcoming vibe that made it a pleasure to dine in. The staff were friendly, ensuring everything was prepared just right. It’s always great to know you can count on McDonald’s for consistent quality and a quick, satisfying meal. It’s definitely a go-to spot for me!

Whoever sets the price of the menu items needs to lay off the devils lettuce. Gotta be high as a kite to think 4.36 for a mcdouble is an acceptable price for the product you receive. For the price(15$) to get a big mac or quarter pounder meal you can go to an actual sit down restaurant and get a meal that is more then .2oz (big mac) or 4oz(quarter pounder) of meat.

I am not a review person. But cant stop myself for this one. I dined in at store around 10 pm with my mother. We had a really harsh and sad day but the food and the people who served us made our day a beautiful thing. Great thanks to Jasleen K. Thank you so much dear, you are an angel. May you spread positivity everywhere you stay with your smile. Will definitely drive from other end of city, just to eat here.

Reviewing because the worker on the first window of the drive thru (male) is absolutely incredible! I’m not sure his name but I sure hope that this location realizes how lucky they are to have him! If you’re heading for a morning coffee, stop by the drive thru, this particular guy will make your morning!

I had a good experience at this McDonald's. The store was clean and the staff were friendly. My order was mostly fine, but I noticed that something in my burger tasted a bit off, almost sour. Overall, still a decent visit.

Today I ordered two coffee at the drive thru window. I paid with cash, received my coffees, then the cashier walked away from the window without giving my change! ; Another instance where I was given MILK instead of dairy-free OAT. Didn’t notice until too late. HOWEVER, manager was reasonable and gave coupons as compensation. ; Coffee flavour is usually fine, better than others. But the coffees are so hot!! Overfilled my cup; Trying to get the crappy plastic top off (not trying to drink microplastics) i spilled it all over and burned my inner thighs. Way too hot!!!

It's just a horror. I bought Peanut Buster Parfait it's just salt, it was so unpalatable that I was just forced to spit out this filth. I don't advise anyone. They appealed to the administration, they said that they could not do anything because they only have such nuts. So I paid $8 for what went to the trash😕

Classic Dairy Queen location in East end St. John's. The parking lot can be difficult when busy, but this location has been a crowd pleaser for what must be 40 years.

Chewed on a sharp piece of plastic called the store, the manager stated “there was no possible way that could happen” then straight up hung up on me after stating he would look up the transaction. Who makes something up like this? Not a single apology just “we can give you a free blizzard” and gaslighting me stating “it wasn’t us”. date 07/09/25 at time of 2030

I love Dairy Queen, but I will not be attending this location anymore. I ordered two cones and they were not of the correct consistency (not creamy at all, picture light grey hard ice cream). I instantly mentioned to the cashier that they did not look right, and asked why they looked that way. The worker made another cone and still it was not creamy. I asked if their machine was broken or lacking an ingredient. They did not understand. The lack of quality control and understanding that their product is not as advertised makes me think they need additional training or supervision on Dairy Queen standards. I did mention this privately to Dairy Queen but did not get any response back.

Came for ice cream treats after not having visited for over 20 years. Very impressed by the blizzard and other ice cream options. The blizzards were delicious and service was efficient. However, the cleanliness inside and outside the restaurant leaves a lasting impression and hesitation to not rush back. The rear of the building/dumpster area of the restaurant is not well maintained. You can tell the inside of the restaurant has not had a deep clean in a long time. The napkin holder had dirt in the crevices, the doors and walls had black grime on them and in general just felt dirty and grimy.
Kaptain K — Google review
Went with my friend and her dog and the worker didn't even complement the dog (no pup cup?) and they were out of three different kinds of blizzards we asked for. The worker was very rude, would not come again, and the bathrooms were out of order. Horrible experience

Worst experience at this store tonight! Dairy Queen Topsail Road. Placed an order totaling $48.25. One of the items was a cheese burger with just cheese ketchup and bacon due to allergies. When the order was placed, i proceeded to get my drinks and condiments. The root beer had sprayed on my hand and was very sticky, I reached for napkins, but the dispenser was empty. The ketchup pump was empty, too. Went to the washroom to wash my hand to find both bathrooms were filthy, toilets were stogged, sinks were black and no toilet paper in either bathroom. Our meals was delivered to our table, when I opened the special order box it had all the toppings. I took this back to the employee who told me to check the other box. I checked and that burger had all the toppings as well. The employee then tried to take the other burger and inspect it himself after i just confirmed it had all the toppings! He opened the box and lift the bun with bare hands! He then said he would fix the other burger, when the new order arrived i again check the burger only to find that they had scrapped the toppings off and gave me the same burger! As mentioned previously this order was allergie sensitive. When i went back the second time and asked if they had scrapped the toppings off the employee lied to me and said it was a new one. I opened the burger and showed him the mayo still on the bun. He then grabbed the burger and went over to the kitchen. The rude attitude and filth at this store is saddening, unsanitary, and downright dangerous to people with sever allergies!

Even though it’s not the closest location to me, I keep coming back because of the cleanliness and the fantastic customer service. The staff are friendly but the food has seriously gone downhill while the prices continue to rise. The Big Mary’s are always tasteless, missing breading, never crispy, very dry, and TINY. They’re like a slightly oversized chicken tender. Such a waste of money.
Jessica V — Google review
Had to leave 1 star in order to leave a review. Otherwise its a 0 stars. I just spent $84 at your 61 Torbay Road location. The food I received was totally unacceptable for the amount of money spent. Both Big Mary's are far from "big" they are literally the size of chicken strips. Honestly, chicken strips are bigger. I am attaching pictures to show you what is being passed off as acceptable at your store. I called the store and was waiting for a manager to come to the phone. I was hung up on. I am VERY disappointed and will be letting people know what a terrible experience I have had and will not recommend. This is pure robbery and honestly its sad that the amount of money people spend on a meal and this is what's being given. Pathetic. This is not OK.
Haley M — Google review
This was the worst experience I've ever had at a Mary Brown's. I ordered a simple spicy 3 piece chicken with taters and asked the worker (at 9:50pm on Oct 12, slightly dark skinned Asian male) at the drive in to add spicy seasoning to the taters. He said they don't put the spicy seasoning on the taters and had to put it on the side. As ridiculous and simple it is to just provide some basic service, he gave me attitude about it, after I said other locations I've been to here do. He tells me he has to go to his manager... (again.. to sprinkle spice on the taters...) and comes back asking me what I want again. I repeated the order and I asked him if he will put the spicy, and gave me attitude again about doing it. This was already so unprofessional and ridiculous, but to top it off, he drenched both the chicken and the taters in spice to the point it was basically inedible. It was so caked on I had to dust what I could but it was still ridiculous. This is beyond unprofessional and shows a complete lack of care for customer service. It's baffling that something as simple as a seasoning request turned into such an ordeal. Instead of resolving the issue in a reasonable and polite manner, the employee not only gave me attitude but also sabotaged the food. The fact that I had to dust off seasoning just to attempt to eat it is beyond comprehension, bordering malicious. Edit: I had a stomach ache. He should be fired. It'd be like if a doctor dismissed a patient because they didn't like them. Absolute joke. Edit 2: It's been days since I sent them an e-mail to their likely generic e-mail and nothing's been followed-up. Useless pandering and awful customer service for this location.

This Mary Brown's is doing it right. My girlfriend and I stopped here for a snack after a long day. It DEFINITELY hit the spot, and then some. The food was hot and fresh. It was SUBLIME. The service however is the standout here tonight as the man who took our order delivered our food to our table and he was very friendly. I highly recommend coming here!!

This place is absolutely fantastic im homeless and the go out there way to make sure im ok the food is A1 the customer service is par to none love you guys
Paul M — Google review
The score is actually zero. For the sake of the review i had to give 1. The manager, Maria, there has zero customer service and really needs to be trained in how to behave with people let alone customer service. She has zero etiquettes as she LITERALLY threw the food in front of us showing her discontent. I am a manager myself and would never behave the way she did. She is the worst human being i have met till date. I really would like to speak with eirher the franchise owner or someone from headoffice to mae a formal complaint against the emoloyee.
Jonathan C — Google review
I had a really uncomfortable experience at this Mary Brown’s location. There’s an older lady working there (I think her name is Juwis or something similar) who behaves very rudely, especially toward non-white customers. When we come to the counter, she acts like we don’t exist or simply ignores us. It feels disrespectful and discriminatory, and it makes visiting this place very unpleasant. I hope management looks into this seriously, because everyone deserves to be treated with respect.
