The Black Boy Inn Four & Six Restaurant & Bar is a historic medieval inn in Wales, known for its locally sourced Welsh dining and seafood specials. It is one of the oldest pubs in Wales, offering a great selection of beers and comfortable ancient rooms for those brave enough to stay the night. The inn's surroundings include Caffi Maes and the smallest bar in Wales, perfect spots to enjoy local food and watch the world go by.
Great place to stay, central location, room was really and had everything we needed. Staff were super friendly. Dinner was great quality and good value with no waiting. Only downside is the lack of parking, though a short walk away is free parking after 16:30 till 10:00

Stayed here this weekend (2 nights). Fantastic pub and cosy rooms, really friendly staff. The pubs has two bars plus a restaurant area, all of which have a great atmosphere and classic pub feels. We had breakfast included which was a help yourself to drinks and cereals/ yogurts/ fruits plus a cooked option which you order. Went for the Welsh breakfast both mornings which was good. Also ate in the bar one evening and had wings to start followed by the burger. You can order from the table using a QR code however that didn't include the specials so we had to order from the bar in the end. Not a problem at all. Good location next to the castle. Would definitely recommend this place.

Fantastic experience at The Black Boy Inn! The food was spot on — fresh, full of flavour and served nice and hot. The beer was great too, really good selection and perfectly poured. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was relaxed but lively at the same time. You can tell there’s real care and pride in what they do here. Definitely one of the best places around for good food and a proper pint. Highly recommend! 🍻

Restaurant looking good, very cosy (at least room first on right). I receive very tasty lamb shank, and my wife got a lovely pie, all piping hot. Not cheap but not crazy expensive either. We left restaurant full and satisfied. Highly recommended!!
Lukasz K — Google review
The location itself is fine, the pub is a historic inn, located within the castle walls and looked worth a visit when we were looking at places to eat and drink. We didn't have a meal here but dropped in twice during our stay in the town. Both occasions I had the pleasure of being served by one of the rudest members of staff I've ever encountered. Definitely won't bother again.
Gareth L — Google review
Can’t comment on the hotel/rooms as we just visited the restaurant. Ordered the lasagne and mixed grill. The mixed grill was fine but the lasagne was really odd - not at all like the traditional dish - no layers, no sauce in the mince, no white sauce - just minced beef with a sheet of lasagne on top and topped with chopped tomatoes and cheese. Really bizarre and not at all to our taste. Can’t say we would return but the atmosphere was nice, service was fine - maybe we just ordered the wrong dish!
Tom M — Google review
A return stay at Black Boy Inn, we’ve enjoyed their unique and spacious rooms inside the confines of the old walled city. The beds have all been very comfy. They have 16 on-site parking spots (albeit snug), with 4 EV chargers at 22kw. They’ve a Restaurant, a Pub, and a Bar. The included Breakfast was a very good start to the day.
Nathan S — Google review
Great hotel with lovely rooms. Can bit a tad noisy while the bars still open. But the hotel is smack bang in the castle walls. It has great historical information all around the hotel and gardens.

Scoops Artisan Ice Cream & Dutch Pancakes is a family run ice cream parlour in the heart of Caernarfon, serving up homemade ice cream and Dutch pancakes with all sorts of different toppings. The food is savoury, sweet and vegetarian, and was recommended to us when we were next in Caernarfon - we're so glad we went!
Craving for ice cream when passing by this beautiful street and couldn’t stop myself when found Scoops. Very nice place and amazing pancakes smell just pushing you to grab it but I already had my lunch so leave it for next time. Really enjoyed white chocolate special which was particularly good. Also dog friendly and plenty of seatings.
Win T — Google review
Excellent pancake shop with a brilliant range of options, lovely atmosphere (indoor and outdoor seating). Brilliant value, especially the kids menu which included a pancake, drink, and ice cream. Great gluten free options available.
Mark S — Google review
When visiting Caernarfon, we stopped by and had an ice cream as they looked amazing. We are so glad we did. It was absolutely gorgeous. They have different/unique flavours comparing to other places, and they were really good. The prices are quite reasonable as well. We spot other places selling ice cream and none looked as good as this one. If you are in the area, you should try it
Rita J — Google review
Plenty of ice cream & smoothie options, very friendly staff who will let you try some of the unique flavours. Great selections of vegan friendly ones and also a doggy mint ice cream and treats on the side. Sadly no seating as it was a rainy day, so I can’t comment on the decor. I enjoyed the raspberry sorbet and the pineapple smoothie.

We visited the cafe 27th of August, myself, My husband and my son. When we arrived, the cafe was pretty busy. It was advised that we could reserve the next vacant table and come back in 10/15 minutes and that was exactly what we did. On arrival we were seated, ordered our drinks and were advised there would be a 30 minute wait if we ordered pancakes. I was happy to be advised of the waiting time and for us the wait was no problem. The pancakes were really good (savoury), worth the wait, my only disappointment was not having enough room left for a sweet pancake! The main reason for the review was to give credit to the lovely staff, they were brilliant, hard working, informative, helpful and really friendly, nothing was to much trouble. It makes all the difference to be made to feel welcome. It's small and popular cafe, so, where possible, a bit of flexibility doesn't go a miss. Thanks again xx
Sarah E — Google review
Food was outstanding. We loved it. Did feel it was quite expensive for 1 pancake. There did not seem to be enough staff to run the restaurant with the amount of customers there were. It looked like everyone was run off their feet and just to busy to focus on customer service. We had to wait 40+ minutes for a pancake each. It was like they were not equipped to deal with larger groups arriving.
Amy L — Google review
Stopped here for an ice-cream passing by and it was lovely! The girl who served us was so friendly and attentive, she checked the flavours I wanted for me to check they were gluten free before I ordered which I really appreciated! Brilliant ice-cream and lovely atmosphere, thank you!
Olivia L — Google review
Pancakes were very nice but quite pricey for what you get. Lots of flavours, sweet or savoury. Seating in front and garden room. In front lots of seagulls so beware. Lots of people sitting eating ice cream cones not eating or drinking otherwise. Looks like it closed at 4 and they were trying to clear up when still eating. Signs weren't clear that they were due to close.

The cafe has gained a reputation for serving hearty, no-frills food at great value, with its full English breakfast being particularly popular. Visitors often praise the homely atmosphere and friendly staff, making them feel like part of the family.
Friendly welcome, food that tastes like home. We had chicken mash and veg, honey bacon chops chips and egg. Great prices. Cheapest cup of tea I have had in a long time.

Honestly this hidden gem of cafe is just fantastic. The people there are so friendly, the food is outstandingly delicious, especially the Glamorgan sausages and all of the other breakfast items :). We both highly recommend a visit or two (or even more!) to this lovely cafe.

Absolutely beautiful food in this little hidden gem. It has a lovely traditional, local feel and the staff were all really friendly and helpful! The breakfasts and thick shake were so delicious. Would highly recommend!

I recently stumbled upon "Y Gegin Fach" in Caernarfon, North Wales, thanks to the glowing reviews on TripAdvisor. And let me tell you, this place did not disappoint! Tucked away just off the main square, "Y Gegin Fach" greeted us with warmth and charm. The couple who owned the place were incredibly friendly, and their hospitality made us feel right at home. They went above and beyond to ensure that our experience was exceptional, and nothing was too much trouble for them. We decided to try their breakfast, and it was labeled as a "hearty Welsh breakfast." Well, let me tell you, it truly lived up to its name. The sausages were huge, thick, and plump, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The bacon was so thick that it could easily be mistaken for gammon, and each bite was a delight. The whole breakfast experience at "Y Gegin Fach" was simply amazing. Starting our day in North Wales with such a fantastic breakfast was the perfect way to set the tone for our adventures. The quality of the food, combined with the exceptional service and friendly atmosphere, made our visit to "Y Gegin Fach" truly memorable. I am delighted to have discovered this hidden gem of a place to eat, and I can confidently say that I will be returning without a doubt. If you find yourself in Caernarfon, North Wales, make sure to pay a visit to "Y Gegin Fach" for a truly satisfying breakfast experience. You won't be disappointed!

This quaint café boasts an inviting atmosphere with its nostalgic decor, complete with net curtains and cheerful red polka-dot tablecloths. It's the perfect place to indulge in classic dishes like rarebit and faggots while enjoying a warm cup of coffee.
Such a friendly welcoming. The best cup of tea in North Wales for sure. I've not tried their popular homemade ice cream so cannot comment. However, my family ordered GF carrot cake and Apple pie- delicious! Clean. Quick service. Highly recommend.

Ice cream from heaven!!! We decided to try out the place since there was always a long line in front of it. Well, we weren't disappointed. They have freshly prepared ice cream in number of flavors. We ordered pistachio and butter nut coffee in a chocolate waffle cone. Yummy!!! The ice cream wasn't sweet at all and it was full of flavor and freshness. Their sizes were huge as well. Will definitely try again when we visit wales again.
Khalid C — Google review
Very good icecream, creamy and nice taste. The staff is very polite and friendly. I wish there was more choice of flavors. For example 2 basic flavors of ice-cream that were missing are hazelnut and coffee. Overall, apart from that, this place is highly recommended.
Filippo S — Google review
Very tasty, creamy ice cream and unique flavours to choose from. We tried the Elderberry & Ginger, Pistachio and Vanilla - all were fantastic and I loved the combination of elderberry and ginger despite not being a ginger fan! Portions were big and good value for money. Tried other ice cream in town and these were the best.

Really tasty ice creams. Good selection although not huge. The portion sizes were hood with a single cone consisting of two scoops. Really loved the pistachio flavour.

Caffi Maes, located at 4 Castle Square, is a beloved family-owned coffee house in Caernarfon. The cafe offers a wide range of high-quality hot drinks and delicious nibbles. Visitors praise the friendly and efficient staff as well as the clean and tidy environment. The menu boasts an extensive selection of breakfast options available all day, with all dishes cooked fresh to order. Guests can enjoy their meals on three different floors, including outdoor seating overlooking the castle and market square.
What a lovely café to be found in almost the closest position you can be to the castle. The service is fast and the prices are reasonable (cheaper than the more chic neighbouring cafes). I ordered a flat white and a bacon and egg breakfast bap. I was blown away by its massive size and I thoroughly enjoyed the homemade feeling it had. An excellent start to the day, fully recommend if you are in the area.
Rafael M — Google review
Fabulous food in a fabulous location, right by the castle. You would expect somewhere so close to the castle to be touristy and expensive but this was anything but that. Really quick service and great food. We had 2 main meals, 2 pints of Wrexham lager and a kids meal for £33. Would definitely recommend and return
David M — Google review
Absolutely stunning breakfast here this morning, the best in Caernarfon (we’ve tried a few 😆). Will be back when we are next here in a couple of weeks x
Dawn L — Google review
Fantastic location on the The town square, indoor seating but we take a table outside with a view of the 12th Century Castle and town walls. Best coffee in town (unsweetened oat milk !! Food menu small and simple but excellent. I can recommend the bacon and egg bap. Crispy good quality bacon with the fried egg cooked but the yolk still runny (can say I’ve never been so lucky ever before when eating out) Service is leisurely, which for me is good when food is cooked well. If food comes up quickly that says to me that a microwave is involved 😡 Personnel I’d like cafés would move way from sachets of condiments and go back to bottles - from an environment point of view moving away from single use plastic which I can never open to more sustainable bottles or even little paper cups of the sauce you request.
Jo D — Google review
Probably one of the better lunch cafes in Caernarfon. The number of locals using it is always a good litmus test. Bit of a wait to order at the counter, but the food was excellent and that is what matters. Good choice and very tasty. Can get very busy, although there are seats upstairs and if the weather is good outside, so lunch early to bit the rush.
Steve H — Google review
Serves a great breakfast and coffee. Bonus is the small Breakfast, half the size of full breakfast at half the cost. Lovely sausage, bacon and eggs, and nice size to set you up for the day. Friendly service, and nice outdoor seating when weather is appropiate. Inside can be a bit noisy in the back.
Ian H — Google review
Nice coffee and flapjack here, lovely selection of ice cream too even though we didn't try any this time. We will next time

A nice pub with a good food menu and range of drinks. Unfortunately they didn’t have any Welsh beers due to being a Robinsons pub, which was a shame. TVs at the back for the sports, which means the front of the pub stays quiet. Good idea!

Cute cosy bar with a great selection of starts and small bites. They were all presented beautifully and were delicious. The pizza on the other hand was a bit more average. But all in all, a great place to grab a drink, hang out with friends and have a small bite!

Came across this establishment yesterday for the first time. I was mighty impressed as soon as I walked in. The locals and the staff were all friendly and helpful. We decided to order a bite to eat and again we were not disappointed. The food was incredible. We had to wait a whil but this was because is was getting freshly cooked which is always a good sign. The pork bites (forgot to take a picture) is a must for a starter, they were amazing. We followed up with a pizza which was also very nice. Well recommended

The family were absolutely lovely- genuinely kind and welcoming. The coffee was beautiful, bursting with rich flavor, and paired perfectly with the locally baked cakes that were simply delicious! The experience went beyond the beverage, as we received directions to local landmarks near Newborough Beach, along with useful information on the tides. And as a bonus, we even got a free picture to remember our visit. Kind souls, great coffee, and exceptional service- definitely a must-visit spot!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Lovely speciality coffee, we came just before closing for coffee and cake. The Barra Brith was amazing! Moist and fresh and a cracking big slice too (complete with Welsh butter!) They sell their own coffee beans and we bought a bag too. The coffee tastes amazing! Oat milk is available too! Outdoor seating has a fantastic view. UPDATE - we’ve now had a chance to try the beans we bought when visiting. They’re AMAZING! Lovely smooth chocolatey flavour. I’ll be buying more of these beans, hopefully they sell 1kg bags (photo added of the coffe made at home).

A Heartwarming Experience What a Gem 💎 This cafe is more than just a place for great coffee—it's a heartwarming experience. The mother and son who run it are a fantastic team; you can feel the care and passion they put into everything they do. The son is always so polite and cheerful, and the mother has the kindest smile. The food and drinks are top-notch, but it's their genuine hospitality that keeps me coming back. Supporting this beautiful family business feels good. Do yourself a favor and stop in!

Lovely spot on the harbour front. Food and coffee was delicious. We had a breakfast stack…sausage patty, hash brown, fried egg and onion relish in a sourdough bun, so good! Had a brownie and cookie afterwards, didn’t disappoint. There was only a few items available for breakfast but we came on a Tuesday morning, think they were trialling the menu. Dreadful! Stopped serving hot food five minutes after we arrived ( 2.15pm) on a Saturday afternoon!! Asked for a Welsh breakfast & was told they don’t serve all day breakfasts. Asked for a bowl of chips & was told the drier was turned off. Ended up with a lukewarm panini. Awful- trying to support our local businesses- huh!!! And you wonder why people go to Costa!

Fantastic lunch. Enjoyed the homemade soup and sandwiches. Very helpful staff, and such a calm, chilled vibe in the large atrium/bar area. Very recommended.

Garden center
Cafe
Holland Arms Garden Centre is a popular destination for plant enthusiasts and gift shoppers. The center offers a wide variety of healthy plants and attractive pots at affordable prices. Visitors can also find an assortment of house decor items. During the holiday season, the garden centre features beautiful Christmas displays and even hosts Santa's Grotto. It's more than a garden center. It's a perfect shopping experience for indoor decor and garden alike. Restaurant is a try above the normal. Pricey but worth it and above all ckean, tidy and meticulously presented.

Gorgeous place lovely restaurant/cafe I asked for extra everything and the head chef himself came and delivered the food to me He beat me I couldn’t eat it all and I promised I would Don’t think you will find another place to get all this food and 2 drinks for under £30 on a Sunday.. excellent service and food was fantastic my only issue the Yorkshire pudding was slightly too well done My only point! everything else was awesome I will be coming back

Today we popped into the garden centre it was my husbands birthday. We visited the café for breakfast and refreshments and wow, amazing!. The staff really seemed to enjoy being there, which in itself is refreshing. They were all smiling, happy, helpful and polite. The breakfast arrived at the table and was well cooked and delicious. It was so good we couldn't help but leave a tip.. If I had more than £5 in cash we would have left more! This is the second time we have visited the centre and the staff have been second to none. Last time it was a very helpful plant expert that gave brilliant advice on what to plant at home!! He was great and the plants have settled in well. Thank you Holland Arms Garden Centre we shall be back very soon!!

I love this garden centre. They always have such a good choice of plants and pots. Lovely bits and bobs for your house too. Plants and pots are affordable, house bits more pricey. They have gorgeous display usually over Christmas and Santas Grotto. New restaurant in the back with good food but bit long wait.

Lovely garden centre. We took our mum for lunch and to buy her some plants. Only downside was the 20 mins queue to order food as there didn't seem to be enough staff. The food was worth the wait though. Will go again. Also you can take your dog around the shop if you happen to have one with you on a random visit but dont want to leave them in the car.

Today the 26th August 2025, I had the misfortune to attempt to buy something to eat and drink at the cafe in here. I walked out after nearly 15 mins of standing in the queue for the following reason. There was a queue out of the door, and the lady in the light grey top on the till taking orders... decided to walk away from her job and spend 10 mins chatting with friends. She even walked up the queue to the back to chat to some of them. So she could see how long it was. She wandered around like lady snooty of snooty manor not giving a damn about the people waiting to be served. Meanwhile the lady who was making all of the tea and coffee (a slow enough job to do when people are asking for lattes and cappuccinos) had to cover both positions and you could see how annoyed and frustrated she was getting with the laziness of her so called colleague. In more than 10 mins, she managed to actually serve 2 people, whilst the other was swanning around like she owned the place. Walked out in disgust, I'm fairly local and used to go there quite often. Groups of us would go at least twice a month, we'll be going elsewhere from now on. I also, wasn't the only one to walk out in disgust.

I am a regular here usually for the cafe which is fairly priced and the staff are great . Always good food . Even the outside part where dogs are welcome is accommodating enough. Sometimes come with an additional needs adult and the staff can't do enough for us .

Gronant Cafe is a small and cozy cafe located in the heart of Gronant. It offers a wide selection of coffee, tea, and delicious snacks. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and they'll make sure that you have the best experience possible.
Horrible experience! Was looking at my phone whilst waiting a good few minutes for the customers before me to be served, but the owner did not make any attempt to serve me once they had gone. After putting my phone away and asking for two hot drinks to go, the lady said "there will be a wait for that since I have to serve all the caffi orders first" (they had all been served, but I did not know this at the time) so I said I'd be happy to wait, and returned to preparing for a business meeting on my phone. It was taking a while so I put my phone away and looked up, then the lady said "Are you finally done?" It turns out she was refusing to serve me because I was keeping myself busy while waiting for her to finish 'serving' other people. She then proceeded to shout in front of the other customers that I was very rude. Disgraceful behaviour from what used to be a nice local caffi, she should be ashamed to act in such a way!

Awful place dirty and old ignorant woman was picking her nose whilst serving food, luckily saw this before we got served. We left straight away and whilst coming out 2 locals laughed and said "It's bad isn't it" They went in to say the last experience they had in there they saw a mouse (rat) ? In the kitchen area. Avoid at all costs.

Lovely place they can't do enough to make sure you enjoy your meal. The food price is also reasonable.

Lovely little business the food was lovely. The staff very friendly and helpful. The decor is smart and contemporary and it's situated just outside the castle wall. Small family run business that is trying hard to accommodate and appeal. Well worth a visit especially for breakfast.

Excellent food at very reasonable prices. I ordered one of the specials on the recommendation of the waitress (Garlic Chicken). It was delicious. My wife had the Roast Chicken Dinner, which was fairly good, but she was rather disappointed with the choice and style of the provided vegetables.

Loved this little restaurant. The food was fresh and such good value. The waitress was helpful and very friendly. The tables are well laid out. Its definitely a good little restaurant to stop at when in the city!

Had a quick walk around Caernarfon and was looking for somewhere to eat - everywhere was full but then we found this place by complete chance. At first I was dubious as it was empty apart from two tables - Best meal we've had for ages!! We both had the sweet chilli chicken burgers, coffees and a childrens small plate of sausage and chips. Lady in the cafe was superb and even bought our daughter some marshmallows and cream when we had finished, couldn't fault the place at all - just a shame it's not closer to where we're staying in Anglesey!
