While this is a definite local hangout with a unique vibe and lots of various cocktails and beers, we were recommended to go there for the food by our guide. Unfortunately, when we went the food was awful. My wife had steak, which was poor quality and overcooked. I ordered pork ribs, which was not what I got but I’ll chock that up to “lost in translation”. But the pork was also poor quality and had little flavor. Go for a cocktail and local flare but do not eat there.

TERRIBLE, 5 different waiters could’t get an order right. They had no food left apart from fries by 8. Don’t come here. Just go eat somewhere else, and if you come maybe order a beer at the bar, that should be easy to get it right!

The drinks a pretty good here. The food is okay, the night I went, they didn’t have most items on the menu. There also was a show the night I went, which made it a little bit harder to get a server, but I understand. Overall, this is definitely a place locals go to grab a drink and hang out.

The service was great as they were all very friendly and helpful. Great drinks and delicious Chilean food. The live music (a man singing to playback) that started at 9 pm was quite entertaining. All in all, it's a very cozy and local place where we spent a very nice evening.

I had a very tasty lunch here last week with a friend. The dining room is dominated by a very old, wooden bar that is quite beautiful and historic. There's an old cash register and other antique items that add to the flavor of the place. The food was quite good. For an appetizer, we shared Machas a la Parmesana. They were good but a bit overcooked. For the main dish I had grilled reineta with mixed salad and my friend had paila marina. Everything arrived quickly and was good. There was only one waiter, but he was extremely efficient and attentive. While we were there a charming street musician came in with an accordion and he played and sang several songs which we enjoyed quite a lot. The rest of the time we were there the sound system was playing all Elvis songs (there are many Elvis and Marilyn Monroe photos on the walls). Just as we were leaving, the waiter switched the music to tangos, I wish I had asked him to change the music earlier!

We read about this place and it sounded cool. We took a taxi across town just to have a drink and snack. We sat at the bar right in front of the bartender. He acted like he didn't see us. After five minutes he still didn't acknowledge us. At that point we waved at him and the waitress. Still no luck. We left as we came - unnoticed. Bar La Playa is a historic bar with a lot of charm. Unfortunately I did not have any of the food (I hear the seafood is delicious), but I did enjoy several of the best Pisco Sours that I had my entire time in Chile! 10/10 would come back here!

just awful went with my kids there as I plan on having a good time and nice food.. i didn't even look at the prices cause my goal was to have fun unfortunately we had to wait for more than 40 minutes to discover our food order was lost.. pisco sour are great but the most expensive in chile we found a hair in our empanada and the food was cold and under cooked...great place with bad administration thats clear so do yourself a favor go there take a selfie and get the hell our of there running and screaming.

On a cold and rainy day we sought refuge in La Playa for lunch. The very attentive waiter treated us to his own version of "menu del dia' with a delicious seafood soup, roast chicken and salad and for my friends, a tasty fried fish and a small desert. We had a reasonable carmenere wine and all in all it made for a perfect stop. Although we speak very little Spanish, the elderly waiter, who has been working there for many, many years was gracious and made many attempts to make our visit special.

The pizza was pretty expensive but not cooked enough, the bottom was white and soft. Music was a little too loud. Staff was nice though. I got the medium size.

I remember this bar since my times as student and it was always a nice place to stop at. I went on a Wednesday and there was not much people which was fine for the day and the time (around 8:30pm) but my friend and I asked to one of the waiters for music, and then the problem started. He was so rude, he couldn't care less about us and just said: it will play soon! We asked for the menu as we wanted to eat something. He brought the menu and just left it over the table. He never welcome us, and introducing himself is not a habbit here, you have no idea about his name. We asked for a typical chilean sandwich called "chacarero" and 2 draft local beer. We tried to interact whit him as we were placing the order, to make it more relaxing, enjoyable... but he seemed careless all the time, never smiled, very unfriendly young dude; didn't bother to make suggestions. I asked to removed the chili from my sandwich and he kind of roll his eyes on me and said: ok! And left. The beer was a well known brand in Chile, I had it before. However, it didn't taste nothing like the one he said he brought. And the sandwich was awful really bad, cold, tasteless, the beef had a weird taste. Nevertheless, we ate it as we were so hungry and decided not to complain. With that rude and angry dude he could it spit on my food! We decided to try something else that we thought we couldn't go wrong. A pizza!!! Yaaaaay everybody loves pizza... just dont go to this place for it! It was worst than the sandwich. Undercooked! You can taste the dough... no crispy crust, you couldn't cut a slice and hold it in your hand coz it was soft. You gotta eat it with fork and knife. The chorizo topping was also uncooked... I can bake my own pizza at home and it will taste better. Really bad. The waiter never came back to ask how the food was, he came back couple of times only to try to offer us a 'not free' refill for the beer. At the end of the service he tried to be nicer and smile when we asked for the bill. Of course, he wanted to get the tips for his horrible service. We finally left the place. Nobody bother to appreciated we were there, or invites to come back. Above and beyond bad! Cafe Journal brings back so many memories to me, that I left with a bittersweet feeling from there. My advice would be... for you guys planning to visit Cafe Journal... DO NOT eat there, no way! The food is really bad and overpriced. You can get the exactly the same sandwich in a close by restaurant for better quality and better price. Not even to mention the pizza. Beer... hmm maybe by bottle could be a bettet choice. If you go on weekend or summer time I am pretty sure you can find still a nice atmosphere over here. Hopefully!!!. But just go for drinks, do no eat. And don't expect a quality service. That doesn't exist over here. Rudeness is the key word for waiter staff. Bad! We just donated some money here last night, is a better way to say a "waste of money"

Pretty nice and comphy spot, two story building and a patio, good selection of authentic Chilean sandwiches and a full bar. Prices are ok. Music is good too. Lots of room for big groups. Restrooms are NOT that great tho.

Like myself, this place is old, eccentric, asymmetric, crooked, beaten up, and just plain weird....but I love it. The rooftop terrace is perfect for sharing drinks and conversation with friends and lovers. This is the type of place that takes center stage in a classic novel by a worldly author. I only put 4 stars because I haven't tried any of the food here yet. To be continued.

We had lunch here. Pasta Bolognese,with salad as starter. With a glass red wine. Good food . But even if it say Wi-Fi zone in the wall,the waiter refused to give us the password for the WiFi. To offer WiFi for international tourist, cost you close to nothing, and is the standard today... because off that,only one star.

Did not have a great experience here. It took forever for the waiter to come and take our order. When I ordered a beer, it again, took way too long and and he seemed slightly annoyed and confused. My experience at Milamores was disappointing. Despite their diverse milanesa options, my plate arrived with a dried and unpleasant-smelling milanesa. The quality was subpar, and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Regrettably, later that night, I experienced severe vomiting, suggesting a potential issue with the food's hygiene or preparation. This was a truly unpleasant dining experience, and I would caution others to reconsider choosing Milamores.

I found this place on Google Maps but at my AirBnB the gentleman at the front desk recommended it which further encouraged me to make a visit. I was not disappointed. I ordered the Milamore Pollo Funghi, fries, a salad and had a couple of beers. The food was delicious, the server was very nice and attentive. I would definitely go back as well as recommended to others 👍🏽

Randomly walked into this spot because it was around the corner from where I was eating and I felt like having a beer. Seemed very standard, nothing out of the ordinary with service that was friendly yet took long. I wouldn't have even bothered leaving a review just for having a beer someplace. One of the cocktails on the menu caught my eye though and I decided to give it a try and I'm sure glad I did! The Vladimir - listed under the cócteles de autor was concocted with raspberry infused bourbon, martini rubino, campari and merlot! Its served in a skull shaped container and is one of the most incredibly generous cocktail portions I've ever had. A fantastic combination of spirits and flavors I truly savored this drink and cannot recommend it enough to any whiskey aficionado. Although it did take a while for them to bring me the drink once I ordered it, I can say without a doubt it was well worth the wait. Didn't try the food so can't comment but I'd go back here just to have the Vladimir again.

My darling wife says this is the best seared tuna she has had on all our world journeys. I tasted it and I agree. It was top quality sushi grade meat cooked to perfection and the pumpkin purée was magical. The views from the restaurant are stunning as you look over the city and port of Valparaiso. Superior service advised and delivered our drinks and dinner with a friendly smile. Absolutely loved this place.

Great location and cool building. Reception could be a bit more helpful, possibly give some local tips like in other places, rather than just ‘hi’. The bathroom was a bit tired looking and the bed very squeaky. Unfortunately there was a plague of termites on our first evening. After an initial clean up that we did, we eventually had to get up on the night and get help from reception with bug spray (most helpful). We then needed to have the window closed and had to ask for a fan as there’s no a/c or way of ventilating the room without the window open. But it would have been better if reception had told us it was happening to make sure windows were shut and so on. We ended up with a room full of dead termites and shed wings which was pretty disgusting. Lastly, on check out the woman who took payment was extremely unfriendly, no smile, no ‘I hope you had a good stay, have a good day, thank you for staying with us’ which left a sour taste in the mouth. these things are so easy to remedy by just paying a bit more attention to details and making more of an effort.

I had a very good stay in this hotel. The staff is very kind. The breakfast is complete and delicious. The hotel is located in the best location of Valparaiso and you have panoramic views . I highly recommend the hotel restaurant. It has fresh seafood and very varied and good drinks.

We are at the restaurant, and it was incredible. I had the Camembert y Serrano sandwich and it was one of my favorite meals during all of my time in Chile. There was great drinks and wine as well, along with lovely views of the city. Highly recommended!

This was such a beautiful hotel! The history of the building and renovation was very interesting. Our room 11 was very nice and clean with a great view. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was hot with good pressure, and the staff was very polite. The restaurant was great as well. We had dinner and breakfast. The options are very good and the breakfast spread was incredible and fresh. We had no complaints here and would love to come back if we’re lucky enough to visit Valparaiso again!

Also the wait was like FOREVER...there were not that many people, and the kitchen took way too long to bring the food. Then the food was not even delicious and way too overpriced for what it was. We went to the restaurant for dinner but also to taste a variety of Chilean wines. The salad and salmon we ordered were very good. Their wine menu of wines by the glass was formidable. This was one of the worse experiences ordering food. There was 5 of us and we ordered 5 pizza's, which should not take not long. After 30 minutes nothing, and we was starting to wonder where our Pizza's were, after 40 minutes we had to ask, and it seems they had not processed our Pizza's, and the lady went to the kitchen fast and said they would be soon. It took another 20 minutes, so an hour in total for the Pizza's to come, two of themy had a soggy soft base, and it seemed like they were taken straight from the freezer, we were straving after allot of travel so a couple of us eat them anyway, but I could not eat any as to me there was awful and not cooked. There was no apology from the staff or anything, I finished my wine within 30 minutes so the 30 minutes after I asked for another, that took another 20 minutes to come, by the time it came I rejected it and wanted to just leave. No apologies, no offer of a free drink, nothing, just here's your pizza's, 1 hour late, and don't worry if you already drank your drinks 40 minutes earlier while you wait.... ..surely this goes against food regulations standards...our reviews will be spread over the internet.

We absolutely loved our stay at this unique and beautiful hotel. The staff was so kind and helpful and gave us great recommendations for walking routes to see nearby street art and a delicious restaurant. No two rooms are a like - all with different touches. Our room was huge and full of such interesting decorations and art on the walls. We had a private outdoor terrace with an incredible view of the city and the sea. Our bed was very comfortable and we had a lot of room to spread out. Even binoculars were by the sliding glass door so we could peer down into the. It’s below to see even more of the street art. We had an entire kitchen and two couches - even a bbq out on the terrace and enough room to easily entertain if we had local friends. Also love the story of the hotel which they include in your room along with board games and books. Everywhere you look throughout the hotel there are recycled and upcycled materials. Breakfast was included and we had the option of breakfast on the rooftop deck or in our room and we ordered through WhatsApp and were delivered hot breakfast to our room! We will definitely be back!

Tasteful yet eccentric architecture in a sublime location perched upon the slopes of a hill amongst local rustic houses with a view of the active port below. The rooms have distinctive circular windows and are decorated with design focused elements that make you want to linger and unwind. Honestly the only hotel I can remember where the artwork in the room was superb. The rooftop bar and breakfast deserve special mention too as the staff are so accomodating and friendly especially Victoria who looked after me. Make sure you witness a sunrise or sunset from there!
