Fun things to do in Vina del Mar: 25 fun attractions and activities

It was a flower clock .. what can I say !!!! Ah, Viña del Mar! Okay, the Flower Clock there... right. It's one of those "tourist attraction" things. You know, you see it in the brochures, and you think, "Okay, sure, why not?" And then you get there, and it's… a clock made of flowers. Exactly as advertised. Look, it's not offensive. It's kind of cute, I guess. People were definitely taking photos, doing the whole "pose and smile" routine. I did too, because, well, when in Viña del Mar, right? But let's be honest, it's not exactly a "must-see." It's a quick pit stop, a photo op, and then you're off to find something more interesting. Viña del Mar has so much more to offer – the beaches, the coastline, the gardens. Compared to those, the Flower Clock just feels a bit… meh. It's not that it's bad, it's just that it's not exactly a highlight. If you're walking along the coast, it's a nice little diversion. But if you're on a tight schedule, you're not missing out on much if you skip it. Basically, it's a clock. Made of flowers. In Viña del Mar. If that sounds like your thing, go for it. If not, there are plenty of other, more exciting things to do in the city.

Very beautiful and well maintained area. The clock is fully functional, but the area can get very busy with tourists and people. Parking is very limited, and usually, tour busses fill them up. You will only spend a few minutes here, but it's pretty to look at.

Very good ! Nice beach, but considering it’s a Chilean Pacific beach, that means , cold water, windy and not a real real summer. The beach almost disappears because of the short beach and is always like a well and is quite dangerous. It is not a beach suitable for swimming or enjoying the water. But the palace is beautiful because of the people that are almost all of them Mendocineans. It’s a nice place I think one of the best close to Santiago. But summarizing Chilean beaches are not good at all. Atlantic is way way better with Long Beaches… But the view is beautiful!!

Reñaca is an area known for its beaches and balnearios located in the Valparaiso Region of Chile. Situated along the coastline, the city of Reñaca is near the city of Viña del Mar. The two are connected by a long coastal road named Avenida Borgoño. Reñaca serves as a residential area predominantly catering to the upper-middle class, and provides a coastal lifestyle with access to amenities and recreational activities. Reñaca is at the northernmost extreme of the city of Viña del Mar and has been incorporated by it. The beach of Cochoa and the town of Concón is located to the north along the coast road. The lower part of the hill overlooking the beach is covered with residential buildings up the hillside. The town also extends eastward up the valley through which the Estero de Reñaca flows, where the majority of the year-round population lives.

Beautiful beach, water is on the cold side. Few people, great place for long walks on the beach. Tall waves, not safe for small children.

The north sections of the beach is knowed as one of the best spots to surf near Santiago. Really fun, lots of barrels but really crowded

It is a beautiful and serene place. The theatre is huge and I would love to be here during the Viña del Mar festival. It is one of the biggest events they say. There were so many different and unique things being sold here. I wanted to purchase everything. The best part was the peaceful and green garden where people sat and enjoyed with their loved ones.

Beautiful place to visit. They offer free tours in several languages. I recommend it to everyone! There are always special exhibits and the one I saw was stunning!

Beautiful park close to the sea, nice venetian architecture. Impressive auditorium Quinta Vergara for 20.000 visitors. The exterior is a bit untidy, but I believe that during concerts there is a great atmosphere.

Great leisurely walk, with an interesting museum. On the day we were there, there was a medieval fest which made our experience fun and colourful. Recommended!

It's a nice place to go for a walk and take some pictures. We really enjoyed the garden and the shape of the bushes.

As far as I can figure out, this isn't generally open to the public. That's what the 2 very nice security guards protecting the entrance told me, anyway. If I'm wrong, please let me know!

It seems be good casino I went to play Texas Hold'em but unfortunateky there was no game at all Dealer told me that no cash game only tornement sometime Too Bad!!!!!!

Machines are okay, the music not good for my taste people not friendly at all, you try to seat at a table and they all duty but the area is beautiful

We went to a concert and gambling. The slots really don't pay. We are used to casinos in the US and this one is tight. The show itself was good (Raul DiBlasio- a pianist) was very good. The organization of the casino was just ok. The initial entry to the amphitheater was too slow. We all waited for about 1/2 hour before door opened. They should start seating earlier. The place was so hot that the fans turned on mid performance. They were loud and we could not hear. Luckily the complaints made them turn the fans off.

I took the lift which was 100 chilean pesos. I didn’t have cash but luckily a local had a gave me the change. It was quite fun taking it but remember to have some cash for it. The views on the top are quite nice.

Steep funicular, up to the hill. The payment at the bottom.(First pay when going up and pay later when coming down) prepare small money, they may not have change for big money.

Ascensor Reina Victoria is a super fun little funicular railway in the heart of Valparaíso, Chile! It’s definitely worth visiting if you’re in this city as it’s a fun experience and provides great views. It is extremely old (built in 1902) but it still runs great. The area has a playground for children, seats, and streetlights, and it’s quite inexpensive to ride the funicular. It’s also in a great walking area for you to explore all the shops, restaurants, and street art! Definitely put this on your list of saved places!

An interesting place to visit as tourist because of the view at dusk. Has criative and interesting graffiti around the top of Reina Victoria. Also has a slide (funny). The ascensor takes you to a hill full of colourful bars and cheering retaurants, beautiful graffiti and souvenir stores. Totally recommend going and eating in one of these restaurants.

Its It's nice but pretty small. I wish more of it had actually been open to see. We were in and out in less than 10 minutes. The area around it is beautiful though so if you're in the area it's worth dropping by.

Very nice place to see if you are walking throughout the Viña Del Mar seafront, after you pass caleta abarca beach and Hotel Sheraton, about 10 min more walking it’s this nice Castle which has an small museum and wonderful views!! Very recommend place to visit and near bus stop!

This castle was built in 1906 by a German coal trader as well as maritime transporter, by the name of Gustavo Adolfo Wullf. In 1995 it was declared a "National Historic Monument" and as a result, locals and tourists have been enjoying this signature in time. The architecture, and the many amazing viewing sites make this place worth the time and take in.

YOU MUST VISIT THIS PLACE. ITS FROM OUTSIDE AND YOU CAN FREELY WALK THERE THROUGH THE BOARDWALK. ALWAYS LOOK FOR YOUR PERSONAL BELONGINGS ALL THE TIME. VIÑA DEL MAR AND VALPARAISO IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITIES NEXT TO OCEAN IN CHILE. INDEED I MUST MENTION IQUIQUE (NORTH) AND PUERTO MONTT (SOUTH). ENJOY

Plaza Santa Maya is a must-visit walk through spot in Valparaíso! It’s beautifully nestled among some important historical buildings and sits right at the base of a couple of the city’s iconic cable cars. From here, you can walk along the waterfront, hop on a boat, or just take in the view. When I visited on a Saturday, there was a charming little craft fair happening, adding even more color and life to the plaza. The city center.. beautiful old colonial building around the plaza. Use the funicular ride to go up the hill. Nice area to explore. Mall are around the plaza, with foodcourt and toilet. Its quite crowded on the afternoon and a nice place to hang around.

Plaza Sotomayor is the main square of Valparaíso and a great starting point to explore the city. It’s home to the impressive blue Naval Headquarters building and the Monument to the Heroes of Iquique, which honors Chilean sailors. Surrounded by historic architecture and close to the port, the plaza combines history, culture, and daily local life. A must-see landmark before taking the funiculars up to the colorful hills.

Was ok but no where to park and the plaza is not like the typical plazas we’ve visited where you can grab a bench and relax. It was in the middle of two busy, busy streets.

When the artisanal market "Victoria Porteña" is there you can see some of the best local art made by porteños themselves such as fine stone jewellery, silk-screen printing, wood-cut printing, wooden puzzles, knitted clothing among others. You can also get great food in the local restaurants around the plaza and visit Muelle Prat for a boat ride. Recently, works have been announced for this place by the city so it could be closed in the near future

This is the center of Valparaiso, near the metro terminal. Many restaurants, local buses, taxi. There is a meeting point nearby for the free tour to visit Valparaiso sightseeing.

Great museum. My kids loved it. They have two floors with art and activities. Adults also have fun. You can learn lots about art and history. We spent probably 2-3 hours in the place.

Outdoor play areas were neat to look at and fun to play on. Museum was a hit with the kids : lots of interactives, jungle room play area was a lot of fun, downstairs was a win with the older kids but a little scary for the 5yo.

I do not recommend this for adults, it is only for children. There are no original paintings in this "museum", only prints of real paintings.

I wish I lived in Viña so I could bring my son here all the time! Such fantastic and fun and playful approach to learning.

The famous Chilenian poet's house. The decoration is quite playful and luxurious. From all the rooms, the view was great. You need to put your backpack in the locker, and it has to be 100-peso coin, that returns when collect your item back. 9500 pesos and the audio guide is included. I would say, 15min is just good enough? Not much to see. The view outside the house(free) is the best photo you would get!

Amazing five level home overlooking the port city of Valparaiso. It houses an eclectic collection of personal items and furniture from the mind of a Nobel prize winning author. The audio guide well constructed and provides great insight into the man and his world. The views from his office and bedroom are astonishing. It is expensive at $9.000 per ticket, but that helps with maintenance costs and crowd control. We thought it was worth it. Oh, the young men at the entrance to the home were very helpful. They spoke multiple languages.

What a fantastic house. You don't even need to be a fan of Pablo Neruda to enjoy a wander around the 5 floors of this beautiful house with some of the best views across Valparaiso and out to sea. I highly recommend a visit.

Interesting insight into one of Chile’s most famous poets. They have audio guides with all the information you need for each of the spaces. The staff are also very helpful and happy.

Worth going for the creative details inside: eclectic furniture, artefacts and artwork. The views of course are amazing and the audio guide good for the info. There is still a great vibe to the place.

The place was fantastic to visit. You get an audio guide (free) and you get to visit the five floors of Pablo Neruda's house. Great insights on the poet's life. Don't miss it if you are in Valpo.

I recently visited the Pablo Neruda Museum and had a good time. The museum has a lot of interesting information about Neruda's life and work. The exhibits are well-organized, with personal items, photos, and manuscripts that tell his story. One of the best parts was the amazing view from the museum. The scenic location offers beautiful sights that add to the overall experience. It's a peaceful place to enjoy and reflect on Neruda's poetry. However, the ticket price felt a bit too high for what was offered. While the museum is worth visiting, the cost might be too much for some people. Despite this, I recommend it to anyone interested in literature or looking for a lovely spot to visit. Overall, it was an enjoyable and memorable visit.

I didn't go inside the museum but this review is for the original Easter Island statue that is majestically exhibited outside the museum. Since childhood I have been intrigued by Easter Island and its world renowned sculptures. It was wonderful to actually see an original statue albeit not on Easter Island but appropriately in front of a Museum showcasing the archeological wonders of Chile.

This is a smallish museum in an old and quaint building. The building itself has wonderful wood stair with its balusters and banisters. The displays of the artifacts on the first floor are marvelous and take you through the archaeological regions of Chile. On the second floor you will find displays of wildlife. If you are nearby, you should visit. F Y I you should Park a couple of blocks away.

We came to see the Moai (Easter Island stone statue) who guards this museum. Loved all the creative artifacts from cultures throughout Chile and South America. There are some interesting stuffed and preserved animals whichsre worth a look. :) The $4.50 entrance fee well worth it!

This is a magic place where you can find one of the most known legacies of the mankind, of course, located in Chile, at its nature,, even not in the original site. An authentic Statue from Rapa Nui Island( old Chilean name) Easter Island is the main guard of the Museum. In the left side of the Entrance, it is exposed a second piece of stone, a magnificent model, sculpture 10000 years old. The building itself is a heritage landmark, very suitable for its actual function and destination.

Nice displays but small rooms that get crowded when tour busses arrive. It was a great place to visit before we went to Easter Island.

On the street, it looks like construction ongoing but there is a passage on the right side to the cable car. Good view of the port area. It was election day and free rides.

Ascensor Concepcion is the oldest funicolare in Valparaíso, operating since 1883. It's a great piece of history and provides great views along its 70 meters long climb up the steep hill.

I think depending on the day you have to wait a little to get up on the elevator. The trip is gentle, quick and has beautiful views.

It might be good… if you have Chilean pesos! No tap! Not a friendly way to welcome tourists, who want to spend time and money here!!!

Simple, fun and kids enjoy the walk around

Dangerous place for tourists! We walked in to see the funicular and my husband was almost mugged…in broad daylight. Not safe.

Fun way to naviguate the two levels of the city. It costs 30 CLP and is a quick way to go up and down without climbing lots of stairs. This elevator is in service since the late 1800s and it fels like it: the ride is a bit shaky but it's quick!

Incredible to visit. Great explanation at the seaside display. It's very tragic to see encroaching development. Also erosion due to people trampling plants is apparent. Gently visit while you can...

I've been in and around the dunes quite a few times during my stay and haven't seen anything like it previously. It's size is quite impressive and seems almost randomly placed. I would recommend to wear comfortable clothing (no high heels or tight clothing) especially for your 1st time as you could trip and tumble on the sand that honestly gets quite slippery sometimes. If you visit I'd highly recommend going straight to the highest point(s) and then working your way down as the view from the top is pretty impressive (especially at night for the buildings lights). You get to see the ocean, the coastline, buildings, and more. I'd also choose wisely how much activity you're planning on doing as if you go super down on the dunes (especially the middle part near the ocean) it can be pretty hard to get back up without running. Definitely a great place for a morning or late afternoon walk (especially for a workout).

The best sunset is in Concón. The sun shines on you all the way to your heart. Great place for picnic with friends or partners. You can get there by car or bus.

Nice place, but not impressive The Concon dunes are fine to visit if you’re nearby, good ocean view, soft sand, and a breeze. Nothing too special though, just simple natural dunes. It’s not heavily protected or managed, so it feels raw and calm. Worth a short stop, especially for sunset photos.

It's a beautiful view for pictures, to meditate and rest. I went in 2 different occasions and both times was really pretty. If you visit close to the sunset, that view is very pretty even if it's really cold in winter. Also, in summer is really refreshing.

Really beautiful dunes, especially nice place to watch the sunset from. If you're wanting to try sand surfing remember to bring cash and there may be some people renting their boards

The best way to get up and down the steep slopes of Valparaiso is using one of the many funiculars. And they are super cheap to use too.

A cable car that's still working in Valparaíso. 100 pesos per person. Prepare your coins!

Here you can experience the history of Valparaiso. A ride costs 100 pesos and it's worth it. Once at the top you have a beautiful view and can walk through the city.

If you are in Valparaiso go up one of its ascensores or elevators/ lifts. We have taken both the Ascensor Artilleria and this one. The cost is 100 pesos each way. At the top of El Peral visit the Palacio Baburizza a good museum- see my review for photos. At the top of Artilleria, the great Naval Museum and a row of souvenir shops along the Paseo 21 de mayo - I also have a review. There are places to eat or buy fast food or candy at the top of both ascensores. Photos below are for both. I set 4 photos from Artilleria, set a sunset photo from our apartment to separate, and 3 from El Peral.

Fun experience. Historical. Not to miss

A must visit attraction in Santiago. There may be a queue for the inclinator may be longer on weekends and public holidays so it is worthwhile booking online. Once you are at the top the views are spectacular. It is well worth also buying a ticket for the gondola lift down the other side and return.

Restaurants were removed from the pier. Now it's only a sightseeing place. Nice for a walk and to breed the sea air.

An interesting remnant of a mercantile past. A lovely evening walk along the board walk, and down the pier. Busy, but strangely peaceful.

Very safe and quiet, in Viña del Mar the sun rise since midday, therefore you should go at that time if you want to find sun, other wise whether you go in the morning you will find it cloudy 🙂

This pier was well made. Alot of people were fishing on the pier. It was free.

This place was very average. The only thing good here was the churros. The view was okay although all you can see are buildings to the side and the horizon. The pier itself had a crane which has no function and not maintained. The look out was clean but really dull. There are also creepy guys there that approach women and don't know the concept of personal space (not sure if he frequents there but he forced a bracelet on my friends arm and forced a hug). There are also no swimming signs but fishing allowed.

Along the coast walk at Vin del Mar, there is a pier that runs into the sea. It is, in fact, an old part of the port where boats were unloaded by a historical crane. The crane is out of use and restored, while thepier is used for relaxing walks and looking out over the sea and by amateur fisherman. It is a nice outing as part of your stroll along the coast in this nice village north of Valparaiso.

Nice pier by the beach, gives you the feeling of being closer to the ships anchored miles from the coast. There were some people fishing, but no one caught anything! Still, a nice experience while in Viña del Mar.

Worth the cheap entry fee. Not my fave art but it a beautiful space and interior and one of the docents, Matilde? Miranda? is LOVELY. We had a wonderful conversation as I wandered the spacious museum. I went soon after it opened about 10:30am but would recommend going later as the AM fog obliterates any views from the palace and windows. The fog lifts early afternoon. English explanation at the entry but not thought out. Very nice on-site café as well with good empanadas and carrot cake cookies! Friendly staff and I was happy I could charge my phone.

Superb art museum located in an early 20th century art nouveau styled mansion. The home is beautiful and the quality of the paintings is astounding. The collection originates mostly from Europe, but has plenty of Chilean works as well. Nice cafe and clean bathroom, too. This is a must see visit in Valparaiso.

Amazing art museum and the palacio itself! Beautiful works, well kept. Much better than national art museum in Santiago! Take it slow and wander around to explore all the nooks. Permanent exhibition is large and is only 3000 pesos, and the temporary exhibition in the basement is free.

Free entry on Sunday. The Museum is in a historic mansion and is adjacent to Mirador Paseo Yugoslavo and is easily reached via the Ascensor El Persal. There are street performers and the area is designated a local artisans market area. The art in the museum is focused on native Chilean artists and has many works that reflect the early years of Valparaiso.

Very beautiful art gallery, prices are fair. I think it's a about 4000 Pesos for foreigners and less than 1000 for locals. The oil paintings where astonishing and varied in size. I marveled for over one hour in incredulity. There's also many explanations in Spanish. The gallery features some European artists as well as many Chilean ones. The bathroom could be cleaner and the locks on the doors repaired. I had to hold the door shut while doing my business. Also the tours with a large group of people were a little annoying as you could sometimes not enter a room because it was thus crowded. I therefore suggest minimizing the size of the group. However, definitely worth a visit if you're in Valparaíso.

Officially, the museum was open at 2.10pm, but the staff obviously didn't feel like working and simply didn't let people in, claiming it wouldn't open until 3pm. Everyone should therefore think twice about going there. But it seems typical for Chile...

Beautiful old mansion overlooking the city that has been turned into a fine art museum. The art is has works from local and European artists, mostly French. Its quite a nice collection and is worth a visit. There are also two temporary exhibits free of charge that you can take a look. When I was there, the exhibits were photos of Chile and of tattoos.

Great atmosphere. Very peaceful. Pet friendly. You can enjoy sunshine and peaceful afternoon.

The palace itself is gorgeous, sadly there's a lack of maintenance showing up. Some cracks and paint details need to be taken care of asap. About the visit... Well it's a free guided visit so you have to walk faster. There's no time to admire the architecture that it's rich in details.

Lovely old palace that was once a family home - go and hear the story of the Rioja family on a free guided tour on the hour, and admire all the opulence. My guide Eliodora spoke great English.

This is one location uou have to see. The decor, history and beaty is ashtonishing. It will help if you a tour for you to understand the background of this place. Pictures are allowed and u can touch many of the items. Enjoy

Super fun! Lots of pelicans and super chonky sea lions who get fed fish all day! Fish shops are fun to visit

The beach at Playa Caleta Portales was disappointing. It was very crowded, making it hard to relax or find a peaceful spot. The cleanliness is a big issue—trash was scattered everywhere, and there didn’t seem to be enough bins. The water didn’t look very clean either, which was off-putting. There were also limited facilities, and the ones available weren’t well-maintained. Overall, it felt neglected and not worth the visit. Definitely needs better care and attention.

Very dirty and the boardwalk isn’t safe at all. Missing planks. Be careful where you walk. We did get to see sea lions though, so obviously still worth it

in total i saw three sea lions, not a lot the market and the area around smells really really strong and looks dirty the beach view was pretty nice if u really have nothing to do in valparaiso, come by, otherwise don’t waste your time to come here extra

Nice beach to see the sunset. Easy to get there by public transport and cars. There are many sea food restaurants in front of the beach. Also you may find some vendors on the beach selling Chilean sweets, drinks, ice cream, etc. Always keep an eye on your belongings.

You can't swim but is beautiful just to be in the beach

SEA LIONS!!! Go early afternoon when the fisherman are cleaning their catches and they will go nuts. The $1.50 ceviche by the beach is to die for. Tons of gulls and also a very pretty beach. The piers are nice. Maybe 100 commercial fishing boats used from here, and we found it very interesting to watch the fisherman launch and retrieve them using the crane at the end of the pier. The restaurants are good, parking is easy, and it's like 5 minutes from valparaiiso. We went twice.

Good morning, I give 1 star to this water park since I come from England traveling through Chile and it turns out that Google says that this park is open from Monday to Sunday, which is a lie since I arrived happy with my family and it is closed. I do not recommend false information.

There are no chairs, might be a covid thing, so bring something to sit on. The water is so cold, it's hard to stay in. Definitely bring sunscreen. It's not a big place but good value for the cost for little kids.

We went and google maps said it was open today, but it was closed and we were very sad. Do not recommend

Kids will love it, no alcohol allowed which makes it an excellent place for a family day.

The beach is alright, it can get very very crowded on the weekends, but on weekdays you’ll be fine. The promenade is filled with people trying to sell necklaces, beach gear and other stuff. You can rent a sun umbrella and sun loungers. There is even a small cafe that sells food and drinks plus people walking on the beach with coolers that sell drinks and small snacks. Sadly, swimming isn’t allowed at this beach (at least at the time I visited) and be aware of the waves they can become very rough.
