Likes: - from Toyama City, about 30 mins by car, easy drive, almost straight road all the way, lots of parking available - from Toyama Station, train options - Shinkansen 26mins ¥2730 OR local trains x2 transfers ¥720 1hr 27min+on foot 5mins - supposedly the biggest Aeon Mall in Hokuriku with 200 shops in 2 buildings - bright, spacious with shops line up on both sides - like the speciality shops; never fail to find good gift items here - fun to browse, especially on dreary Winter days Dislikes: - very little English signage in mall and in each shop; cannot figure out sales promotions eg have to buy 2 items to get 50% discount

every salesperson is nice here. However the tax-free policy here is chaos. Even the flyers from the information center is wrong. Very poor tax-free service

It's a pretty solid mall, just like any other mall there are. The atmosphere is not chaotic on a Friday night. I went here to check out their Uniqlo and Daiso, and I'm pretty satisfied!

We’ve got it all for you!!! Just ten minute walk from ShinTakaoka station or Takaoka Shinkansen station. A complete variety of shopping experience from arched, restaurant, movie, market and shop till you drop. Usually busy on weekends and during lunch time as student and workers drop here to eat and spare some time. They added an annex which extend and make it more fun to experience and more shopping stall to choose. Overall a nice fun Mall at the heart of Takaoka.

A very classic scene of Doraemon, and perfect for fans. However the park is only with this part having such theme, other than that would be a common local park, with many autumn leaves and stunning view during sunset. Visited by the end of Nov. Plenty of parking places

Zuiryu-ji Temple, located in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, is a long-standing Buddhist temple with a rich history. Built by Maeda Toshitsune, it belongs to the Soto school of Zen Buddhism and was constructed to offer prayers for the repose of his brother's soul. The temple complex includes two prayer halls and peaceful gardens adorned with statues of deities.
Magnificent temple with expansive grounds and interesting architecture that maintains it's tranquility to visitors and tourists alike. Simply purchase your tickets at the entrance and you'll have a great time soaking in the atmosphere as you learn a little more about the temple grounds and their mode of worship.

Zuriyu-ji is an absolutely stunning temple complex, crafted entirely from wood, which gives it a warm, natural atmosphere. The craftsmanship and serenity of the place make it truly special. Visitors have the unique opportunity to join a guided tour led by Buddhist monks, offering fascinating insights into the temple’s spiritual and historical background. For just 500 yen, you can enjoy a cup of traditional Japanese tea paired with delicate local sweets, all while taking in a breathtaking view from the temple grounds. It’s a place that invites peace, reflection, and appreciation for Japanese culture — highly recommended for anyone seeking a meaningful and memorable experience.

Zuiryu-ji, a national treasure and one of Japan’s finest Zen temples, is even more breathtaking in winter. With its majestic wooden architecture blanketed in snow, the temple takes on a serene, almost otherworldly beauty that makes it a must-visit in Takaoka. Built in the early Edo period by the Maeda clan to honor Maeda Toshinaga, Zuiryu-ji is a masterpiece of Soto Zen Buddhist architecture. The layout is perfectly symmetrical, with the Sanmon (main gate), Butsuden (Buddha Hall), and Hatto (Dharma Hall) aligned in a straight path, showcasing the temple’s disciplined aesthetic. During winter, the contrast of dark wooden beams against the white snow creates a picture-perfect scene, enhancing the temple’s quiet, meditative atmosphere. Despite the cold, visiting in winter has its perks—fewer crowds, a peaceful ambiance, and the rare chance to see this historic landmark in a different light. The stone pathways and courtyards covered in fresh snow make for stunning photography, especially in the early morning. The shoji (paper sliding doors) and wooden corridors add to the charm, giving visitors a true sense of Zen tranquility. If you’re in Takaoka during winter, Zuiryu-ji is an unforgettable experience, offering a glimpse into Japan’s rich history and spiritual beauty. Don’t forget to bring warm shoes, as the temple grounds can get icy!

Great atmosphere and power spot. Architecture, structure of the buildings are amazing. Huge space and recommend to talk a walk slowly watching all the buildings slowly. Garden highlights the style of typical Zen temples. Entrance ¥500 and good enough free car parking. No rush. There is a small snack shop near the ticket counter which is good for having a break.

A national treasure that is all for you. This temple is the typical example of the Edo period zen Buddhist temple. The construction using wooden structures, elevated slightly off the ground with tiled roofs and sliding doors. Free parking was available at the parking lot adjacent to the temple. Entrance fee was ¥500 per adult. There were not many tourists visiting the temple making it easier to enjoy the tranquility and perform meditation without unnecessary disturbances.

Zuiryuji is an impressive complex that can be visited regardless of the weather. You can experience the temple while walking down its long halls or outside and get good results either way. It is calming in a very Soto Zen way and I found myself quite content even though rain usually takes me right out of the temple hopping mood. Also it was built by Maeda Toshitsune which is cool by itself. This temple would not look out of place in Nara or Kamakura. Great Zen Temple overall.

The Takaoka Great Buddha, also known as Daibutsu, is a magnificent and imposing bronze statue located in the Daibutsuji Temple in Takaoka City, Toyama. Standing at 15.85 meters tall and weighing 65 tons, it is among the largest Buddha statues in Japan. The monument's history dates back to 1745 and was originally made of wood before being reconstructed in bronze in 1933.
Stumbling around town we walked past a bunch of buildings and suddenly this great Buddha sat before us! What a pleasant surprise in the heart of the city. We were walking to the park and behold... This guy is huge!

I went to Takaoka just to see the Great Buddha. The serenity and silence is so emotional. The grounds are immaculate. While this is not the original Great Buddha, it's still a sight to see. I made an offering and lit incense

The Takaoka Great Buddha is one of Japan’s most impressive Buddha statues and a must-see landmark in Takaoka. Standing at 15.85 meters, this serene and beautifully crafted bronze statue is often called one of Japan’s three great Buddhas, alongside those in Nara and Kamakura. What sets the Takaoka Daibutsu apart is its detailed craftsmanship—it was cast using the city’s renowned metalworking techniques, which have been a part of Takaoka’s heritage for centuries. The current bronze statue, completed in 1933, replaced an earlier wooden version that had been lost to fire multiple times. Despite its relatively modern construction, it retains a deep sense of history and spiritual significance. Visitors can enter the small hall beneath the statue, which houses Buddhist artifacts and historical displays about the statue’s creation and past versions. The peaceful atmosphere makes it a great spot for quiet reflection.

It's a small quiet place located among many houses in a quiet inner street. Very peaceful. Since the place is quite small, a 10 minutes visit would be more than enough. It's good to include as one of the visit location among the visit of the city.

Imizu Shrine is situated within the picturesque Takaoka Castle Park and is known for its serene atmosphere and historical significance. Visitors can explore the shrine's grounds and even receive a goshuin stamp, adding to the spiritual experience. The shrine holds cultural importance, with events such as the Urayasu dance being dedicated by shrine maidens. Additionally, it is believed to be a power spot, attracting visitors seeking blessings for a rich harvest and industrial development.
Imizu Shrine, nestled within the serene Takaoka Kojo Park, is a beautiful and historically significant Shinto shrine. As the Ichinomiya (highest-ranked shrine) of the old Etchu Province, it carries deep spiritual importance and is a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle. One of the highlights of visiting Imizu Shrine is its location within Takaoka Kojo Park, the site of the former Takaoka Castle. The park itself is a great place for a leisurely stroll, featuring moats, seasonal flowers, and a tranquil atmosphere.

(Translated by Google) It's pronounced Imizu Shrine. Takaoka has a castle (or castle ruins) (I only knew about Zuiryuji Temple and the Great Buddha; I thought it was a town of castings), a moat, and Imizu Shrine is enshrined within the grounds. It's within walking distance from the station. Go through the arcade of Otabaya-dori (which seems more deserted every time I come here), pass in front of the Takaoka Great Buddha, continue straight north, and go down a little. You'll see the torii gate of Imizu Shrine, and you can enter straight from the main approach. It's a really simple route. Speaking of Imizu, until nearly half a century ago, the Toyama Chiho Railway's Imizu Line, a kind of streetcar, ran through the area. Even earlier, this line connected Takaoka via Shinminato, via Toyama New Port, which is now separated by the port. Shinminato City was formerly called Imizu City, and while geographically it's roughly halfway between Toyama and Takaoka, it's somewhat closer to Takaoka. There was a time when it was possible to travel between Takaoka Station and Toyama Station from Fushiki/Yoneshimaguchi Station using only the subway and Kaetsuno Railway without changing trains. The area around the Imizu Line was apparently called the Imizu region, and the name itself apparently originated from Imizu Shrine (Iyazu). I've long wondered why Imizu Shrine is called "Imizu" even though it's located in Takaoka, and this is apparently the origin of the shrine's history. The main shrine building faces south with its back to the north, and there's a gift shop on the left side of the building. Here, a list of gifts is well organized and displayed, and many other shrines in Toyama Prefecture are well versed in this sales method. The worship hall's structure is unique, with a prayer space in front of the offering box, separated by a glass door, allowing visitors to approach the altar more closely. A vermilion-lacquered bridge called Komaharu Bridge spans the moat leading to the main hall of Imizu Shrine. Once you cross this bridge, you'll find the main building of Takaoka City's Gokoku Shrine, facing west, on your right. It's not unusual for a prefecture to have two Gokoku Shrines, but Imizu Shrine also handles the ceremonies at Takaoka's Gokoku Shrine. Charms and stamps are also sold at the Imizu Shrine gift shop. The Imizu Shrine parking lot extends onto the pedestrian path right before the shrine's main gate, then detours west past the gate and enters the Furushiro Park area. It's extremely dangerous if you don't drive carefully. They offer a variety of original charms called "Ichimamori" (sack charms). Takaoka's old town is quite far from both the Shinkansen station and the Hokuriku Expressway IC, and the city clings to Takaoka Station on the old Hokuriku Main Line along with the Manyo Line, so it is quiet and peaceful, but it could use a little more tourism power.

(Translated by Google) Imizu Shrine is located on the site of the main keep in Takaoka Castle Park. It is the only Ichinomiya shrine in Echigo Province built on the site of a castle. Originally founded on Mount Nijo before the Nara period, it has long been revered as Nijo Daigongen, a syncretic Shinto-Buddhist shrine. In the Meiji period, the Shinto-Buddhist separation order designated the enshrined deity as Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the descendant of the heavenly grandson. Later, when the shrine was relocated to the site of Takaoka Castle's main keep due to limited shrine land, the people of Nijo Village were outraged, crying over the portable shrine and hiding the sacred object. The parishioners subsequently built Nijo Imizu Shrine on the former site. Takaoka Castle, where Imizu Shrine currently stands, was built by Maeda Toshinaga, the first lord of the Kaga domain and known as the founder of Takaoka, and its layout (design) was by Todo Takatora, a master of castle construction. Although the castle was abandoned in the early Edo period due to the One Castle per Province Law, it is said to have secretly functioned as a military base, with rice storehouses and other facilities installed. The moat surrounding the Honmaru and Ninomaru is very large, giving a real sense of the defensive functions of a medieval castle. Also in Kojo Park is Takaoka Gokoku Shrine, which enshrines war dead from Takaoka City. History buffs will love visiting two shrines while touring one of Japan's 100 most famous castles. Takaoka Kojo Park is also an anime pilgrimage site, as it is depicted in the anime "Yuru Yuri," which is set in Takaoka City. The goshuin stamp (temple seal) bears the symbol of a snake, which is the zodiac sign for this year. You can also get the Gokoku Shrine stamp here. (Translated by Google) I like Marugame Seimen's udon, but the customer service here is terrible. I ordered two bowls of udon noodles, and asked them to put them on a tray because the bowls were too hot to hold. The female waitress placed the bowls, spilling the udon soup, and placed the other bowl on the tray, spilling the soup over the udon. She said "Oh, sorry." I wanted them to make it again, but this restaurant is no good, and I don't want to come here again. It's too sloppy, and the plates for the tempura that are placed there are still dirty and not cleaned. Izakaya restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Takamachi, Jindaiko is a charming izakaya that has been delighting locals and visitors alike for decades. This quaint tavern offers an extensive menu filled with familiar izakaya favorites, making it a go-to spot for those craving authentic Japanese cuisine. Diners rave about the delectable sashimi and unique stone-grilled squid, which never fails to impress first-timers.

(Translated by Google) I will definitely order the B-class gourmet Totomaru here! The sashimi is delicious, and people who see stone-grilled squid for the first time get excited. (Translated by Google) Perhaps because there aren't many staff members, the pace at which the food comes out is slow. The food has an original menu, but nothing particularly noteworthy. It's no different from a franchise izakaya. The portions are generally small. Perhaps this is due to the effects of rising prices. The restaurant is full of customers, giving the impression of being lively. The design of the restaurant building also has a typical izakaya feel. Overall, I'd rate it three stars. (Translated by Google) The reviews and photos looked good, so I used it to entertain an out-of-town friend, and I had lunch B. Lunch B was a 50g steak (plus two minced meat cutlets and a mini gratin), so two pieces of steak came out, but one was a lump that couldn't be chewed. It's probably because they can't afford to throw away that part. I don't know if they intentionally combine pieces of meat that are too hard to chew and pieces of soft meat to avoid wasting such parts, or if it's just that sometimes some people get the wrong cut, but those parts I thought it would be nice if they would pound it more or reuse it in beef stew or something so that I could enjoy that part as well. The reason why I gave such a harsh review is because it's not a cheap lunch. Serious steak sets start at around 4,000 yen. It may be because lunch A and B are cheap lunches in the 2000 yen range, but it was disappointing. Other than that "slice", everything was very delicious, including the garlic rice that I ordered for an additional fee.

(Translated by Google) I don't think it would be a good idea to judge after eating other soup curries. If you're looking for spiciness, look elsewhere. I ordered mutton, but it seemed like grilled meat was added later. The vegetables are fairly large and filling, but it doesn't feel like the curry is soaked through. The amount of rice should be small. The photo is of Omeshi. Once you add the minced meat topping, the seasoning is strong, so you can enjoy it with rice. I wonder if there will be more menus like minced meat bowl with curry stew ⚪⚪. The sweets are half pudding, half gateau chocolate, and yuzu lassi. Delicious⭕. Overall, the amount is not enough for men, so it seems better to eat a little. I think it's good for women. The parking lot is small, so if you have a large vehicle, please avoid the crowded hours and find a place where you can park easily. It was my Volvo V70. I was saved because there was a light car in front of me. Is the price a little high?

Kaiwomaru is a popular ship museum and park located near Toyama Bay, just a short distance from Kaiomaru Railway Station. The central attraction of the park is the majestic sailing ship Kaiwo Maru, also known as "Lady of the Sea," which dates back to 1930. Visitors can explore the nautical exhibits and take tours on this traditional vessel.
A very beautiful heart warming destination which I would love to go once in every month with all my family. You can enjoy great view of long and spacious bridge which runs right through the sea which looks too good. You can see huge ships and even get inside it and see all the inner details as well. You can have a brief tour of the surroundings on a small boat. Beautiful flowers blooming all around. The parking is so huge that i don’t think that it ever gets out of space. Toilets , washrooms and faucets are available at every point. You don’t need to run back to the first washroom you saw while entering. They have lots of it so clean and maintained at every corner. There’s a view tower form where you can see beautiful Himalayan range of mount Tateyama and other and even enjoy the beautiful view of ocean and lighthouses. Overall, it’s highly recommended from my side. If possible, I would go there every once in a while.

But the highlight of this park is wave-shaped jungle gym made by rope. This scale is biggest one for my experience, so you can enjoy this playing equipment with your kids. There is some shop for having lunch, but my choice is to bring my own lunch box. To have rice ball outside seeing mountain and sea at same time is very good entertainment for busy persion.

Amaharashi Coast, located within the Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park, offers breathtaking views of rocky islets and the majestic Tateyama Mountains. This picturesque coastline has been recognized as one of Japan's top beaches and has inspired poets throughout history. The famous Onna Iwa rocks against the backdrop of the snow-capped 3,000-meter Tateyama Mountain Range make for a stunning sight that attracts photographers from all over Japan.
Magnificent spot for some stunning photos of the woman's rock against the backdrop of Tateyama. Be sure to come on a clear and sunny day for the best views and pictures. Other than the coast itself, there's also a visitor centre that offers good panoramic views over the coast and a small store to buy local specialities. Do note that the place is slightly crowded, so expect to wait a little while for a parking spot if you're driving.

Stunning views of the Onnaiwa Rock, with the Tateyama Mountains in the background. The area is walking distance from Amaharashi Station, which in turn is accessible from Takaoka via the Himi Line. The beach is sandy, so be careful when trying to walk on the rocks as the sand may affect your balance while walking. There are lots of ducks swimming which makes for a charming sight. There is also a nearby roadside station where you can have snacks and buy souvenirs. The roadside station also has an observatory deck. Please consult the train timetables so that you can plan your visit, if visiting by train.

Slightly overhyped in my opinion. With exceptionally good visibility it might be better, but under normal conditions it's just a bay with mountain silhouettes in the background. The mountain view is also kinda disturbed by a bunch of harbour cranes. The rock with the tree is nice but not really worth the trip from Toyama or Takaoka.

This was my first visit. As expected of a national treasure, there were many splendid and valuable buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. It was very interesting to see that the living quarters from those days remained as they were. The parking lot was not very spacious.

The architecture of Shokoji Temple was magnificent, but I was also impressed that a replica of my favorite Rakuchu Rakugaizu folding screen was on display at the temple. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't know that there was a Shokoji version of the Rakuchu Rakugaizu folding screen (lol) Fushiki in Takaoka City was once the location of the Etchu Kokufu provincial capital and belonged to the Kaga domain during the Edo period. In recent years, parts of the temple buildings have been designated a national treasure, but as it is not well known nationwide, there were only about 10 visitors when I visited on a weekday afternoon. The main hall, the carvings on its pillars, and the great hall are all beautifully sculpted. However, it feels like it is still developing as a tourist destination, and I hope that it will become one of Toyama Prefecture's most representative tourist spots, along with Zuiryuji Temple. I was overwhelmed by its scale and majesty, imagining that such a magnificent and majestic temple had quietly stood in Takaoka. The most breathtakingly beautiful part of the temple is, of course, the main hall, a National Treasure. Restored after a long restoration period, its appearance is exquisite down to the smallest detail, conveying the magnificent architectural beauty of the Edo period to the present day. I was simply captivated by the majesty of the golden inner sanctuary. The vast grounds, which include not only the main hall but also the great hall and ceremonial platform, also National Treasures, and the Karamon Gate, an Important Cultural Property, exude a sense of historical weight and dignity wherever you look. It's also fun to leisurely stroll around the grounds in search of the "Seven Wonders," such as the "stone that fell from the sky" and the "monkeys supporting the roof." It is especially moving to think about the passion that has gone into preserving these cultural assets for the future. Takaoka Fujiko · F · Fujio Hometown Gallery is a temporary exhibition located on the 2nd floor of Takaoka Art Museum, open for about 11-12 months. It features exhibits on Fujiko Fujio, a renowned manga artist known for Doraemon. The gallery showcases his life story and includes interactive artwork using projectors. While there are no English instructions, the nostalgic atmosphere makes it a must-visit for Doraemon fans.
A wonderful and insightful visit! The Takaoka Fujiko F. Fujio Home Museum offers a fascinating look into the life and work of the beloved manga artist. You can see original sketches from his early works, his drawing tools, and even his iconic hat. The exhibition provides detailed background on his life and career, and includes a charming short film featuring Doraemon. For fans of the artist, it’s an absolute highlight. Plan for about 45 minutes inside. Note: photography is not allowed inside the exhibition.

The best museum for fans of Fujiko F. Fujio’s comics. It tells the story of his life from childhood to becoming a legendary manga artist. The museum, though small, is very meaningful and includes English explanations alongside Japanese. It brings back childhood memories through original works, exhibits, and a special short anime that changes periodically. A truly impressive and nostalgic experience.

Ramen restaurant
Ramen Makoto Ya offers a unique dish known as Toyama Black ramen, characterized by its rich soy sauce-infused broth and thick egg noodles. Many patrons regard it as the best among their selection, appreciating its flavorful and salty profile, accompanied by perfectly textured noodles that absorb the delicious soup. The chashu is generously portioned, tender, though slightly dry. Overall, this establishment provides an excellent dining experience; however, opinions may differ regarding the intensity of the soy sauce flavor.
(Translated by Google) I decided to come here because it's the original! I was excited when I saw the building. The atmosphere of this long-established restaurant was great. The interior was also very tasteful and I really liked it! There were also lots of colored paper posters. I ordered the recommended classic dish in a regular size. As the instructions said, "Stir first," I mixed it well before eating. As you can see in the photo, the noodles were so well-seasoned that they looked brown. The overall flavor was quite punchy, and I could really feel that "this is real black ramen!" It was a great experience. Thank you for the meal! One of the good Toyama Black. I still don't think you can drink the soup but what it does it does well: Great textured noodles; awesome chashu and good egg. the 'shio' soup is also super salty but works on that same level. The noodles there are thinner so it's nice for a change.

I think it’s good. For black ramen. But for my opinion it’s too salty for me and my bf. We cannot drink soup at all For service, they are so friendly and nice :) so I gave for service 5 stars Maybe who like food that too salty is more suitable! Try it one when you come to Toyama But I do warn that it’s too salty

This is my third time having Toyama Black ramen, a deeply soy sauce-based ramen with thick egg noodles. I will say it's probably the best of the three I've had, being flavorful and salty, with great noodle texture and saturation. Chashu was thick, large cut, and soft, but just a hair dry. Great bowl overall, but I'm still not sold on the strong soy sauce flavor. To each their own. Give this one a try.

Great experience, beautiful flowers for a beautiful day! Lots of spaces for kids to play, great photo opportunities, and even some quiet places away from the crowds. Great Fair! Amazing! My hometown city flower is 🌷 tulip 🌷 as well and we have an annual tulip festival, but we don't have this kind of four-season display exhibition/museum!!! Bravo!! I was particularly impressed by their unique technology of expediting or delaying the tulip blooming season...a much better way to manage and ensure the tulips are in bloom during the fixed period of their Tulip Festival every year!!! I definitely recommend going there for a visit even when it is not the usual tulip season since there are blooming tulips 🌷 all year round inside!! The 360-degree glass display of 🌷 is fabulous...smell so nice!!! They even serve a 🌷- flavoured soft ice-cream🍦 in their snack bar that you can't find elsewhere! Subtle taste but nice! Nice boutique that sells all kinds of tulip-themed souvenirs such as soaps, brooches, scarves, pens, etc. I got some 🌷-shaped silicone moulds for soapmaking...been looking for this everywhere...so happy I found them here!!

We were so glad we scheduled half a day just to visit Nousaku. The food in the cafe was great. The cheese tart was one of the best. Megumi was amazing. She was the one helping us book our experience through email. She was also the factory tour guide and workshop instructor. She was super nice and her English was very good. It was a great experience to understand the local industrial economics (metal casting is huge there). We were so impressed with how organized and clean the factory is. The workshop was so much fun. Although my sake cup was a little imperfect, I love it so much because it’s all handmade by me. I also got to learn the texture was expected from sand mould casting. Highly recommended

Highly recommended and where my wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary! Highly recommended for couples at their 10 year anniversary since tin is the metal for 10 years. We had an excellent English speaking guide and I'm thoroughly impressed at the craftsmanship at the factory. I'm happy that they are keeping this art of Japanese metalworking alive for the next generation. We did both the tour and workshop with the chop stick rests shown (I forgot to take a picture of our bowl and plate at the factory). You can show up if you only speak English but make sure to book it online first. The cafe is also tasty. Thank you so much for making our anniversary special!

I had a great time at the Nousaku workshop. We had to make our own tin sake cups. I now know how much effort it take to make Niusaku’s products.

This is a very interesting place. My children and I scheduled a tour. The tour guide spoke English. Afterwards, we made a item. My youngest was too young, but our guide let her help with the demonstration. The restaurant is so good. The bagel plate it amazing. You can eat as many different bagels as you want.

Old streets lined with copper crafts and poets’ echoes. Shin-Takaoka feels cultured, understated — a station of refinement more than spectacle. Tourist Tip: Visit Zuiryu-ji Temple (UNESCO site) and local metalworking studios. Convenient for day trips to Kanazawa or the Noto Peninsula.

The Fukuoka Camera Museum recently held a photo exhibition called Wonder Photo, with an admission fee of 300 yen. Despite its seemingly small exterior, the building surprisingly felt spacious on the inside. The interior design cleverly enhanced the viewing experience by creating a three-dimensional atmosphere. However, during peak times, there might be concerns regarding individual viewing speeds. In addition to the photo exhibition, visitors had the opportunity to explore a section dedicated to learning about camera history and mechanisms.
A little Camera Museum building by Tadao Ando. A mis-conception could be this museum is in Fukuoka but in fact it is near Kanazawa. Interior spaces felt a bit tight but a very well designed. The photography exhibition at Dec 2015 was very interesting. The displayed camera equipment was historic and provided a taste of the past technology. A building you should visit if you are a Ando or photography fan.

The Ringer Hut restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with their Champon noodles. These noodles are not only easy to consume, but they also come in generous portions. Since you can choose the amount of noodles for the same price, I think this is a very good system for hungry students. It's delicious and I use it often. Revisited in November 2020 This is my first visit to this store in 6 years. The choice of increasing the amount of noodles had ended. I no longer have the opportunity to use this service because I can no longer eat as much as I want, but I feel a little sorry for the hungry students. Prices have been forced to rise due to the soaring cost of raw materials, but this is probably the result of the government's inaction. I had read up on the internet in advance and had learned that you can get extra noodles for regular Champon for free. When you look at the finished product, it's quite voluminous. I was a little confused and ordered Kaki Champon for 605 yen including tax and 5 gyoza. Kaki Champon is miso flavored. The soup was thick and a bit too strong for me. The noodles are straight thick noodles. In addition to oysters, Kayaku contains champon toppings. And mizuna too. There are two large oysters. The gyoza are small but have plenty of fillings. Nestled within the vibrant atmosphere of a bustling farmers market, Jun Blend Kitchen has become a must-visit spot for food enthusiasts. Originally part of JA's direct sales store, this charming eatery offers an inviting selection of pickled plums, vegetables, and delightful side dishes. With cozy indoor seating options for couples and larger groups alike, plus a lovely terrace that beckons on sunny days, it’s perfect for any occasion.
(Translated by Google) I visited before 12 o'clock on a weekday. It was originally located inside JA's farmers market, but the store has since closed and is now mainly run by Jun Blend Kitchen. When you enter the store, you will find a small selection of pickled plums, vegetables, and side dishes for sale. All seats are at tables (2-seater, 4-6-seater), and there is also terrace seating, so it looks like it would be nice on a nice day. This time, I had the "Chicken Nanban Set Meal (3 slices)". Chicken Nanban is very tender and juicy chicken coated in sweet and sour sauce. It goes perfectly with the generous amount of homemade tartar sauce and goes great with rice! Salads also contain a variety of vegetables, so it's nice to have a colorful and well-balanced meal. Sumashi soup, as the name suggests, is a light and light soup. Considering the tartare, I think something this light is just right. It's also great that you can get one refill of rice! Nature & Parks
Takaoka Old Castle Park is a captivating blend of history and nature, nestled just a short drive from the Takaoka Interchange. Established in 1875 on the grounds of the former Takaoka Castle, this expansive park spans an impressive 210,000 square meters and features remnants of castle ruins surrounded by three serene moats. Visitors can explore various attractions within the park, including Imizu-jinja Shrine, a zoo, and even a museum.
さくら🌸forest is very awesome, I enjoy the sunny morning, Suggesting to walk from Takaoka station directly to enjoy the street view. The another reason is the train duration between the two lcations is too long. If you come from KANAZAWA, you must take the Shinkensen with JR 4-day pass to Sintakaoka station. You can save much money, and then taking the train to Stakaoka station. Have a nice vacation!

Historic Sites
Takaoka Castle Ruins, located in a leafy park known for its spring cherry blossoms, is the site of the 17th-century Takaoka Castle built by Toshinaga Maeda. The castle's stone walls still stand today and are surrounded by three water moats. The vast site also features shrines, a museum, a zoo, restaurants, and other facilities.
Takaoka Castle Ruins, now part of Takaoka Kojo Park, is a fascinating historical site that blends history with natural beauty. While the original castle no longer stands, the remnants of its moats, stone walls, and layout offer a glimpse into its past as an important Edo-period fortress built by Maeda Toshinaga, the second lord of the Kaga Domain.

The site features a magnificent stone structure and exterior formations of a 17th century Japanese castle. It is the only castle site in Japan that remains almost completely intact. Unfortunately, the castle buildings no longer exist, but there is plenty to enjoy. For castle enthusiasts, this is a site with a lot to see. There is a large free parking lot near the site. There is also no admission fee.

There’s a crow trap inside the park (next to the Takaoka city museum) that traps crows. I don’t know what it’s used for, but the crows were extremely stressed out trying to fly out. They have an opening in the middle of the structure to allow the crows to fly in, and metal rods that hangs below to prevent them from flying out. Crows on the outside keeps trying to save the ones inside. This is animal abuse 😡

The museum exhibits the history of Takaoka from ancient times to the present day, especially the state of Takaoka during the reign of the Maeda family, as well as special products such as copperware and lacquerware, and traditional performing arts such as the lion dance. Although there is nothing new in terms of exhibition methods, I think it is a good place to learn about the history and culture of Takaoka. Since it was free, quite a lot of people came to see it. On a more detailed note, the entrance to the museum has been moved to the new building, making the route to the history exhibition room a bit confusing. As soon as you enter the exhibition room, the exhibition starts with "Early Modern Period", which may be a little confusing. The exhibition of recently discovered letters was scheduled to start the next day, so I was disappointed that I couldn't see them. (December 9, 2020 - February 12, 2020) I plan to visit the museum again. If you take your time to look around the permanent exhibition space, it will take a surprising amount of time, so if you want to take a closer look, please arrive with plenty of time to spare. Here, you can rent an audio guide for free by filling out an application form at the reception desk. However, I noticed this when I saw an information sign right in the middle of the exhibit. I had been looking around so far, so I didn't feel like going back to the reception desk now, so I just kept looking around. When I checked later on my way back, there was an ``audio guide'' in a hard-to-understand place under the reception desk after entering the entrance...well, I wouldn't have noticed it (^_^;) It's a waste to have an audio guide. It is better to place an information sign in a conspicuous place at the entrance. Information about stamps for the 100 Famous Castles was clearly posted at the entrance. Takaokakojo Park Zoo, a quaint and traditional zoo, is nestled within the expansive Takaokakojo Park. This charming zoo houses a variety of captivating creatures such as flamingos, miniature horses, and penguins. Situated in the midst of this vast park is also a revered temple where visitors can make wishes at the renowned wishing well. Renowned for being free to enter, Takaokakojo Park Zoo particularly appeals to children who delight in exploring its diverse animal exhibits.

Izakaya restaurant
If you find yourself in Takaoka, make sure to stop by Yumesaki for a delightful dining experience. Conveniently located just a short walk from Takaoka Station, this izakaya is perfect for those looking to indulge in high-quality Japanese cuisine. On my recent visit around 5 PM, I was fortunate enough to snag a seat without a reservation—though it’s wise to book ahead as it can fill up quickly!
One of the top izakaya in the Takaoka entertainment district near Takaoka Station.

It seemed like there was no response, so I jumped in. Since it was a little early, I was lucky to get in right away. When you enter the store, go to the counter I was wondering if there would be enough people... There is a table in the back, and the box is bigger than it looks. First, let's toast alone with draft beer (Sapporo) The food is sashimi, and there are 2 types of recommended items. ・Zastro In Toyama, swordfish tuna is called ``zasu''. The fatty part of the belly is called ``zastro''. ・Calf In Toyama, yellowtail farming is called ``Furagi.'' He was promoted to ``Kozukura'', ``Fukuragi'', ``Gando'', and ``Buri''. Zastro, your favorite fatty seaweed This is just the balance I love! Nice item, I had it today. The calf is a little shiny and has a firm texture. The elasticity of the body is very good. This is also delicious While drinking sake with Masuizumi and Hayashi, we added food. Fried white shrimp Homemade fried surimi rock oyster vinegar Grilled yam with kelp Rock oysters with firm flesh and melt in your mouth It's a classic, but it's also delicious on an iron plate. I also like fried surimi because of its fluffy texture. The alcohol goes on and on. I felt like I ate a little too much, but I was satisfied. This is a store I would like to come to again. (Translated by Google) This is a long-established Chinese restaurant founded by a direct disciple of the famous Chinese chef Chen Jianmin, so I had the opportunity to order takeout and try their dumplings, sweet and sour pork, and a stir-fry reminiscent of green pepper and pork. The dumplings were shockingly delicious. They were small, long, and filled with finely chopped vegetables, not meaty at all, and sweetly seasoned! I was surprised, but strangely enough, I was hooked and could easily eat three servings. These are one-of-a-kind dumplings. The sweet and sour pork also had a classic flavor and was delicious. Since this is primarily a Sichuan restaurant, I'd like to try their mapo tofu next time. One thing to note is that while there is a dedicated parking lot behind the restaurant, it is difficult to park in, and on top of that, an elderly woman with presumably mental health issues always appears in the multi-tenant building across the street, monitoring parked cars and yelling at them every time they park. This can cause problems. If there is no reason for them to say this, you can just ignore it, but there are private parking lots and municipal parking lots on the station side, just a 1-2 minute walk away, so it might be better to use those from the start so you can eat in peace.
