Taitung City in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Taitung City, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Taitung City is a relaxed coastal hub on Taiwan’s southeast coast, known for its Pacific shoreline, laid-back pace and access to surrounding natural scenery. From here, travelers can visit nearby attractions such as Taitung Forest Park, the Seaside Park, and the old railway station area, now converted into art and cultural spaces. The city is also a key departure point for ferries to Green Island and Orchid Island, popular for snorkeling, diving and coastal hikes. Taitung’s strong Indigenous presence, night markets and frequent cultural events add local flavor to a visit.
With favorites like Taitung Tourism Night Market, Taitung Art Museum, and 花式蔥餅, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like HOYEA Chinese Cuisine and Wow's Pangcah so you can get the best taste of Taitung City while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Park
Nature & Parks
Taitung Forest Park, located in Taitung County, Taiwan, is a sprawling natural sanctuary spanning approximately 1,146 hectares. The park is celebrated for its magnificent landscapes and rich biodiversity. Visitors can wander along the park's trails that meander through verdant foliage, towering beefwood trees, and colorful blooms. Additionally, the park features a serene lake habitat inhabited by various aquatic creatures and waterfowl.
We didn't have to buy tickets or anything, it was just open entry to everyone. Very pretty in the morning, the weather was perfect and there were so many good trails to run. There were Aldo lots of cool things to look at on the sides of the trails. Pretty flowers, cool statues, lots and lots of trees, it felt like I was in a remote forest.
Rhome G — Google review
Bicycle is recommended to visit the park. Cover yourself with UV protection. Sun glasses, hats are needed when you set your foot into the park. One word of warning! I saw a rattle snake crossing the pavement today. So be careful! They won't attack you unlythey felt threatened! A good place to get in contact with the nature.
Rorpin D — Google review
This park is lovely. I saw so many white birds in a tree at Egret Lake that from a distance it looks like flowers. Bring water as I didn't see anywhere you could refill a water bottle (but I could have missed it). Lots of families and I'd think it would be a great place with a bike - esp if you started along the coast as there is a dedicated bike lane most of the way here
Lisa T — Google review
Great place to walk and enjoy nature. Access to Egret Lake.
Lorne W — Google review
The forest park is situated near Taitung Ocean park and it is well connected to public transportation. Forest Park has major two entry and exit points and Park is full of nature-dedicated trails with ponds, greenish vegetation, beaches. It is the perfect park for relaxing and it will take you close to nature. The park is expanded by approximately 10km with different vegetation and trails are designed in unique and adventurous ways that will keep you three hours busy in exploration. You can rent the battery or manual bicycle for a ride in the park and that is available at affordable prices in nearby shops. The park has a restroom at various locations and the complete information is highlighted in the Park in bilingual languages. But there are no restaurants in the Park or water dispensers or vending machines.
Mohd K — Google review
It's definitely a must visit. I didn't have much anticipation at first. But the ride and the scenery meditate my mind. Tips: Make sure to rent an ebicycle. As the park is huge. Cycle will be hard to cover everything.
Williamywl2003 — Google review
This place is so big and good for spending time with your friends and family. Also, you are able to rent a bike to go around this area. I did enjoy being with my family there. BTW you have to pay the entrance fee before you get inside.
CHIKAI ( — Google review
Enjoying 🚴 with the nice weather. Try your best to avoid visit to the park during hot sun ☀ weather, unless you wish to have healthy tant skin. Please bring sufficient drinking water with you because there is no water dispenser and store in the park.

Taiwanese restaurant
If you find yourself in Taitung City, make sure to stop by Rong Shu Xia Rice Noodles, a beloved local eatery that has been delighting taste buds for over 50 years. This charming spot is known for its unique short rice noodles made from a blend of sweet potato flour and indica rice, giving them a delightful chewy texture reminiscent of udon.
great local noodle spot with lots of seating. fried small fish is also a local delicacy!
Rebecca L — Google review
Another very famous restaurant that is located in Taitung! As I have never tried the rice noodles before so I was kind of looking forward to it when I went. It wasn't so crowded when I arrived, still have some empty tables there. The wait wasn't too long. Got my food pretty fast, but all is self service where you order and pick your food at the counter. The food is good and it is not so expensive. Overall it is a good experience
Neo — Google review
The noodle soup and side dishes are delicious, it’s half-service and the environment is clean. I love their chili, not too spicy but smell good. I would recommend this place for a quick bite.
Sara H — Google review
55nt per bowl very affordable and delicious The fried fish as side is a must order too!
Molly — Google review
We came for lunch close to 2pm on a weekday and it was not very crowded. The environment is clean and like the dining experience in an old shop setting. The serving is large, a small bowl is more than sufficient for a moderate eater. Taste of the noodle is not bad and the side dishes are delicious. There seems to be many restaurants selling the same type of noodles in the city center, didn’t have a chance to try others so couldn’t compare how good is this one.
Sam L — Google review
A Must-Try restaurant if you are in Taitung. You can see the crowd in front of the shop, don’t give up, they gone pretty fast so even though it’s long queue but you won’t wait too long till deliciousness 🤤 The famous noodle is made by rice, it’s thicker than the normal one, dried and soup available, highly recommend side dishes too. You’ll enjoy it as much as I do :)
Sin H — Google review
fish ball tasted like meatball and fried fish fillet had a texture of chicken fillet. Amazing food that is way beyond expectation! Highly recommended!
Benjamin T — Google review
IG: foodie_foxx The place with almost 11k reviews is the best hots spot in the center of taitung. After a long train journey from tainan, we ended up having our lunch. This place was full by 11.30; we actually had to wait for 15 minutes. The most highlighted thing in this place is their noodles bowl, which cost only 50 $ntd for small and 55 $ntd for big portions. Noodles are so tasty and juicy with pork stock and veggies in it. The place runs for almost more than 30 years, serving these noodles at this price. Now comes the trickest part of their restaurant - the sides, which bring their main business, a bit pricy but super tasty and delicious. We tried the chciken sausage for $ 100ntd. Dry fried veggies with minced pork for 180$ntd (which was pricy but really tasty) and then the deep fried crispy fish fry 😋 for 180 $ NTD. Then, teas ranges from 25 to 50$ Ntd. We loved the place so much; we were the only foreigners in there, chatting and laughing loud getting everyone attention lol 😆, the owners were so sweet and the people who served were also so cute and always smiling, they also have a cute robot who comes and delivers the sides for ur table and talks to you about ur orders. Thank you, Rong Shu, for giving us an amazing food experience in taitung. Please open a branch in tainan; I will coke every day for the crispy fish and small bowl of noodles. Bon appetite fellows Peace ✌️ ✌️ ✌️

Flea & Street Markets
Taitung Night Market is a small but diverse marketplace where visitors can find various snacks such as rice cakes, noodle soup, and cream puffs. The highlight of the market is the steak, omelette, and smelly tofu stall in the middle. Custard apple is a local favorite that tastes incredibly sweet and comes at an affordable price.
This fried rice noodles stall is very clean and hygienic looking. And Stinky Tofu stall that's very crispy. A good night market as there are plenty of seats to eat-in. There are also rubbish bins provided along the market, in every stall and wash basins in some stalls. 👍🏼
Audrey H — Google review
Only available on Friday & Saturday. Compared to Raohe night market, you can said it is smaller in scale. However, it has most of the food variety which you normally find in night market. And it seemed Taitung folks really like Western food on grill a lot and it has long queue.
Kokthye L — Google review
Well, if we are talking about night markets this is quite a small one compared with other night markets in Taiwan. The stalls are not too many as well, hence the choices are very limited too But there are many signatures old stall there like the stinky taufu etc Overall it is not bad.
Neo — Google review
Honestly its a great nightmarket. Much much better than Hualien’s. Locals are happy. Friendly. Patient. Good vibe. Good food. Beautiful people.
Alain B — Google review
I liked this market more than the one in Hualien. I feel they have more variety of food (or maybe they just have more food that's to my liking 🤷‍♀️). There's outdoor seatings available, though they might be specific to certain stalls. Lots of games, the feeling is quite festive.
F. L — Google review
Small night market but the food variety are good thou. The biggest stall in the night market here is the steak, omelette and smelly tofu stall in the middle. Taitung is famous for their Custard apple. Their custard Apple taste very sweet. Price is definitely cheaper. The night market have one stall selling dessert. Their egg tart and cream puff taste quite good thou.
Jasmine.C — Google review
Crowded on a Saturday evening. Smelly tofu with herbal soup was really hearty and comforting, which was perfect for a cold rainy day. There were also pork chop and the usual oyster omelette.
Yi N — Google review
Nice night market with a good variety of food. Opening time says 5pm, but shouldn’t go there before 6-7 ish, because many food stalls need some more time to get the food ready.

Live music venue
Tiehua Music Village is a vibrant cultural center in Taitung, Taiwan, showcasing traditional music and art performances. Visitors can immerse themselves in live music, art exhibitions, local crafts, and delicious Taiwanese cuisine. The village is undergoing a transition from private to government management, aiming for more inclusivity for local businesses and performers. The park features charming handmade hot air balloons by school children and offers a relaxing spot for picnics on sunny days.
A comfortable place. I love the hot air balloons hung on the trees as the decoration for the park, which were handmade by the primary school children. There are no vendors during the day, but when it’s sunny it’s good to get together with some friends to picnic on the grass. There’s also a Starbucks there, if you happen to have some spare time, here’s a recommendation that you buy a piece of cake and a cup of coffee to enjoy the afternoon here in TieHuaTsun.
Liân K — Google review
I loved our evening at the music village in Taitung. The market stalls were full of lovely arts and crafts, as well as food stalls. The live music helped create a great atmosphere. The lights and lanterns around the area were beautiful, too.
M H — Google review
I don't think I'm familiar with this place enough to give a review, but I'm leaving the comment before I leave this beautiful city. To my knowledge, I know the original contributor of this area :台灣好基金會 is withdrawing from the management and transferring it to the government. It signifies a new operation that will be more inclusive than exclusive to local businesses and performers. The quality and uniqueness of the boutiques and performances rendered by the former exclusiveness will diminish but not vanish. And that's what I saw and that's what's happening when I visited to the market. The lack of visitors volume and diversity of the merchant types is obvious, but it could be due to the low season. Nevertheless, the intricate architectural and illumination innovation caught everyone's eye including mines. The participation and organization are somewhat overdisappointing because I was expecting much better involvement. In short: too good the hardware, making the software going down too obvious.
Sean L — Google review
A retired train station wouldn’t be allowed wasted, so here’s this artists village. Music, shows, street performance are offered and presented on regular schedule. Check their timetable beforehand so that you won’t feel let down but false expectations. Remember to bring a nice camera while taking a easy stroll along the trees and architectures of creative shapes.
Jolly R — Google review
The place consists of two main rows of shops, instead of the usual food stand you find at night markets, most of these sell handmade works of art, ranging from accessories to sculptures. There are usually performers playing music in the background. There are also cafes not too far from this main walkway. It’s nice to come in the evening after 8, when it’s not too busy. The downside is that most of the shops would be getting ready to leave for the night.
Provisional — Google review
This place open after 6pm. We were there early but most stalls has yet to open. But the ambience here is really nice. The stalls here sells artistic stuff or self made items which is a suitable place to find gift for your love ones. They also have live band here for you to chill out.
Jasmine.C — Google review
a live house here, you can find some awesome indie music here. some artists run stores here as well I think they don't open in the morning, some will open in the afternoon the best time to visit is the late evening, it looks different with lights on
Amanda S — Google review
The coolest place in Taitung run by the coolest local I’ve met so far! The musical selection is diverse and captivating, the bar is cozy and relaxing, and the overall vibe of the village and street market is just unbeatable. Definitely a place you need to check out for yourself if you’re in Taitung and make sure to bring your friends along too!

The Railway Art Village, also known as Taitung Railway Art Village or Tiehua Village, is a vibrant cultural hub located in Taitung city. It is built around the original Taitung train station, which operated for 80 years before being moved to its current location in 1982. The village offers a motley collection of art installations and exhibitions that showcase local culture and creativity.
I loved this place! Vibrant and creative with a ton of interesting public art, unique buildings, craftspeople, musicians, and food. A great place to relax with a loved one and family. Just a few blocks away from a lively night market too. A perfect evening to soak in great weather in Taitung.

This is an interesting area part of the urban redevelopment of the Japanese-era trackworks. Unfortunstely, the area was undergoing major construction works and most spaces were inavcessible
E K — Google review
Went there twice, once during the day and once at night. Obviously, there's not much to see here during the day, but the atmosphere at night is mesmerizing. There was a live musician by the purple Christmas tree at the front of the road and there were quite a few people visiting although it's low season and a lot of the stalls weren't open that day. There's a selection of handicraft such as scented candles to choose from and you'll find a place to sit down and have a beer. The lanterns look lovely at night and give the place a special charm.
Ivo N — Google review
This place is in Taitung city located along a wide boulevard within a.huge garden. Good for strolls and coziness. On weekends, local artists display their handicrafts and artworks for sale. There are also buskers performance as well. Also some restaurants operate there serving normal fares. Overall this is anice place to visit if you are in Taitung city. The sun and weather brightens you up from Oct onwards. Bright sunshine, beautiful clouds, stunning flowers, cool wind blowing and the sea view from the mountain is stunning.

Nice place to visit to see colorful mini hot air balloon art. You can walk around to take pictures. Sometimes they have different music events here so check the schedule to see what's happening. It looks different at night when the lights are on.

Such a lively place both during the day and at night! There's lots of little local shops and artists to support. It's a great place to hangout at night, with the lanterns lit up and places to sit down in the grass and just eat and chill. Note: Visited prior to COVID

This picturesque area features several trails and a visitor center where you can delve into the ecological wonders of Fugang Geopark. As you stroll along the scenic paths, you'll be treated to breathtaking views and the soothing sounds of crashing waves, creating a serene atmosphere perfect for relaxation.

Scenic spot on the east coast called Little Yeliu (Xiaoyeliu). When you arrive at Fugang Geopark go to the visitor center and learn about the ecological evolution of Fugang. I am really amazed in seaside plant and happy to hear the relaxing sound of wave coming from the ocean while walking on the coconut trail. I can hear the chirping of birds.Relaxing quiet atmophere of the mountain forest. You can take a rest in the pavillion and listen to the natural music of the waves. I also enjoy the breathtaking view of dancing ocean with thick layers of sandstone and thin layers of mudstone. There are visitor centers, shop that selling nice souvenirs and delicious different flavors of ice cream, clean restrooms, camping areas, and seaside trail park.Must visit in Taitung County, Taiwan and experience the magnificent landscape created by the changes in the ocean and the erosion of the ocean for thousands of years creating spectacular tofu rocks and honeycomb rocks that attract the attention of travelers like me. If you love natural wonder of nature you will surely enjoy it.

great place to look at the coast and the pacific ocean. they've got all sorts of interesting looking rocks as a result of erosion over the years. they also have a few high points to view the coast. there's also a few stores selling souvenirs, ice cream and some other stuff. nice place to visit if you enjoy looking at the ocean. they have a trail to walk along and also can walk along the Rocky coast if you choose to.
Jeff H — Google review
It's about a 20min bicycle ride from the city here. The ride isn't exactly scenic but it's convenient. You can also stop at the forest park on your way. It was cloudy on the day I went, I'm sure that makes a difference, so the view was so so. There were a couple of families playing hide and seek around the rocks, other than that there were few people. Further up North are a couple more scenic spots so it makes sense to spend a day or so in the area. There is no entrance fee.
Ivo N — Google review
We planned for the quick stopover to check out this place, and we spent almost 1.5 hours and we wish we can spend more time here if we could. This is a beautiful place, and my kids were enjoying rock climbing/ jumping, watching small fishes, crabs and lizards in between the rocks. Love this!!!

As mentioned by others, it is a small scenic park to stop at (there is a parking lot) if you are on the road between Taitung and Hualien. The view of the ocean and the mountains is quite nice and there is no entry fee. The whole East coast is lovely, so if you are in a rush, I recommend checking all view points on Google Maps in advance in order to choose which one you would like to visit the most as it is actually a long ride between both cities.

Four people visited a popular Cantonese restaurant called HOYEA Chinese Cuisine at the Taitung Sheraton Hotel. They ordered the Roasted Duck meal set lunch, which allowed them to choose from five out of eight options. Priced at NT$2588 plus a 10% service charge, it was considered reasonable for a high-end five-star hotel restaurant. Overall, they rated their experience positively, giving scores of 4 for food quality, value, presentation, and tastiness.
So delicious 😋
Google review
The quality of the food has decreased so much over the years that the price they ask is not worth anymore a meal here. It used to be a high lever dim sum restaurant but now the squid cake has sweet corn inside, which means it officially became a lower level taiwanese restaurant. Service was pretty bad too, waiting staff was cold and non-caring.
Mirko P — Google review
The service was good. The restaurant is clean, including the toilet. Some food were delicious but there are some which I think are a bit too salty for my taste. I suggest that they make their menu more simple. It‘s thick and there are SO MANY food to choose from that it will make you feel confused and think/decide for a long time.
Janet A — Google review
We are 4 of us ordered a Roasted Duck meal set lunch (choice of 5 from 8) at NT$2588 + 10%, which was reasonable and acceptable price (considered at the 5 stars hotel’s restaurant) Overall 4 Food quality 4 Ambience 3 Value 4 Presentation 4 Services 3 Tasty 3 Suggestions (as they are 5 stars International Chain hotel) They should give brief introductions The Duck slicing job should be done by Chef or staff from kitchen not the waitress The spring onion should not be deep fried We arrived at 12:45, they should told us the time of last order They should not sent us the bill and ask to be paid soon after the last dish delivered

(Translated by Google) This is my second time to dine here and the service is good. The reception manager Zhuang Zongying has a very good service attitude. The food tasted good, but the fried rice with salted fish and chicken was not good. The aroma of the fried rice was missing, and the taste of salted fish was not present at all.

(Translated by Google) It was my first time to try the five-dish duck. The flaming cherry duck was amazing and delicious. The service staff were very nice. The steamed gentian grouper (four pieces) was also very delicious. The dessert was just the right amount of sweetness.

(Translated by Google) A duck five-course experience, the roast duck at the beginning is amazing, the meat is tender and the skin is crispy! The duck burrito meat is a little too thick The service is really bad, no introduction or recommendation, the same goes for duck processing. The staff slicing the duck and wrapping the pancakes are all foreign workers. I wanted to tell them that there are children, are there green onions in it? There was no way to communicate. When I scooped the second bowl of duck porridge, I found a curly hair. I immediately asked the waiter to come over and he said he would recook it for us (I was skeptical myself!). After all, there are only five ways to eat a duck! I don't feel any apology for this hygiene negligence in the hotel. When checking out, the staff did not take the initiative to ask about the dining process or apologize for the negligence! After I mentioned it again, they helped me deduct the cost of the tea! ? The feeling is very bad! It does not meet the standards of a four-star hotel. It is not worth the price. If you want to eat roast duck, I don't recommend going there.

Hamburger restaurant
Wows Pangcah is a popular restaurant in Taitung known for its delicious burgers and cozy atmosphere. Located near the coastal Highway 11, this small eatery offers a unique dining experience with special seating for solo diners and a small library of Mandarin language books. Visitors rave about the falafel burger and express their desire to return with friends or family to enjoy more of Wows Pangcah's fantastic food.
It’s very difficult to find good restaurants in Taitung. Luckily this one exists. I think the chefs who make the burgers know exactly what they are doing. The bread used and the meat and the fries are all high quality stuff and made with care.

Answer to restaurant comment (02/03/2025): Hi! Thanks for answering. Exactly, it says fries and chips! You are totally right and exactly this is confusing, as you expecting chips inside burger and provided photo in menu doesn’t contain photo of any chips or fries as a side dish. Therefore, you look into menu see fries separately and order it. Regarding pricing, check other reviews in Google if you think my point is wrong. You have half size of “normal” burger in other places. You are in city where wages and (I guess) rent should be cheaper. So why you charge the same burger price as some Taipei places who has higher costs and bigger size. Still, subjectively, but taste of burger and meat is very average. But IMHO. —- 1. (It is not only us, there was a person next by who did the same) guys - why you don’t write that fries is included to the burger? You make people to order another fries for 150 NTD. 2. Very small burger for 260-280 NTD. It is the price of Taipei. 3. Burger average taste, not bad - but 6/10 max (!). 4. First time comment like that - very strange taste of ice - we didn’t finish our Coke coz of that. Check how you make your ice. But what make me nuts is point 1. It seems more like cheating. Please correct it or add clearer picture to menu and I will change my review from 2 to 3 stars.

We found this place on Google maps and heard their burgers and pizza were great. We didn’t see pizza on the menu, which was kind of a let down. It’s a small place and they have posted rules about how long you are permitted to stay, the minimum order, etc. One cool thing is that they have a special place for a person who is eating solo. Take #1 has a crescent shaped seating nook for a single. I thought that was neat. There’s a little library with Mandarin language Harry Potter books. Kind of ironic given the time restraint, but endearing nonetheless. The burger and fries were good and the presentation was photo worthy. Perfect restaurant for a group date or solo diner.

Finally got to try this place traveling through Taitung. Great service, very friendly and helped us with a reservation at the last moment on a holiday night. For a foreigner with limited mandarin, it was nice to order in English. The atmosphere is chill and a great vibe. The food was as good as the service and atmosphere. This who got burgers loved them, I enjoyed the refried bean taquitos. Highly recommend this place!

We went to this place after a three day biking trip from Hualien. The dinner was a perfect finish to the trip. The burger and the pizza are both great - and not many restaurants managed to do both well. Will come back again next time in Taitung.

Amazing find, a small cafe with some great food and drinks. We had the pizza and a burger and we’re not disappointed. Not your average burger / pizza. All homemade from scratch with passion. The cakes are also amazing. Set in customized containers the layout and interior are impressive. Brilliant value for money, give it a try if your in the area.

If you find yourself wandering along Zhejiang Road, make sure to stop by Fancy Oancake, a charming little stand that specializes in the beloved 花式蔥餅 (scallion pancakes). Open daily from 3 PM to 7 PM, except Mondays, this spot is perfect for satisfying those cravings between lunch and dinner. The scallion pancakes here are made fresh upon order and come with an egg as a default topping for just 35 NTD.
Absolutely delicious and possibly the best scallion pancake I’ve ever had. It’s fluffy and chewy, just make sure you opt for the double egg.

It is recommended to come early to line up! The crust is really very special, and the taste is not available in other places. Although it is a scallion pancake, there is also an option without scallions!

(Translated by Google) 📍Fancy Scallion Pancakes Having been in Taitung for almost a year, I can't recommend this fancy scallion pancake enough. 🙌🙌🙌 The first bite captivates your taste buds with the crackling sound of the crust. The golden, crispy texture is not greasy, and the distinct layers of dough lock in the scallion fragrance! Unlike typical scallion pancakes, this one has a more delicate, handmade feel. You can taste the chewiness and firmness of the crust, while the fresh fragrance of the chopped scallions bursts through your mouth. It's naturally sweet and fresh, without the overpowering oiliness. 😎 When it comes to must-try scallion pancakes in Taitung, this one is definitely one of the best. Especially for those who can handle spicy food, you can't miss the soul-stirring chili sauce—the spiciness doesn't overpower the aroma of the scallion pancake itself, but rather enhances its layers of flavor. The initial spicy kick is followed by a gentle sweet and fragrant aftertaste, making it impossible to stop eating. 😋 This fancy scallion pancake isn't just a snack; it's a surprising display of local flavor. The trifecta of crispness, fragrance, and spiciness makes it one of Taitung's most worthwhile snacks.

Authentic Japanese restaurant
Taitung Big Wheels Japanese Restaurant is a uniquely decorated eatery offering a diverse selection of set meals and à la carte options. Visitors can enjoy dishes like kimchi pork and salted grilled fish, each accompanied by soup, rice, seared tuna sashimi, and small sides. It's worth noting that the restaurant's second floor, where the bathrooms are situated, is not accessible by elevator.
I have always enjoyed dining in this restaurant. Great foods and good service! Can't really find any of the kinds in Taitung. I highly recommend you and your friends consider this restaurant when you visit Taitung.

Although the price is high, sashimi was not fresh at all. I had a tuna sashimi plate and other food at New Year's Eve in the restaurant, I end up had food poisoning symptoms (tuna sashimi pieces out of my stomach, together with diarrhea) and was sent to emergency in local hospital 😑 The experience totally ruined my New Year vacation!

The National Museum of Prehistory (NMP) is a large museum showcasing natural and cultural history. It originated from the discovery of the Peinan site during the construction of Taitung train station in 1980. The museum features exhibits on tectonics, human evolution, and archaeological artifacts that trace Taiwan's geological formation and the development of its aboriginal culture.
Incredible museum with lots to see. The information is very beautifully and creatively presented through various different displays, large 1:1 scale recreations of prehistoric life, and interactive games for children. There’s also a cafe and a shop selling clothing etc designed using aboriginal Austronesian patterns and colours. Highly recommend anyone who visits Taitung and is interested in history to spend a day or half a day here! By the way all of the displays and info signs etc have good quality English translations.
Angus M — Google review
The content is really good! I suggest following a guide in the museum so they tell you more stories behind the scenes. The structure and designing of the building is to honor the archaeological discoveries. There are places for children to play and craft room to make souvenirs. Buses and trains are limited, so plan ahead if you are taking public transportation.
Cindy L — Google review
Well worth a visit! I quite enjoy anthroplogy but we had children with us. I like how it wasn't too big that it would take up your whole day and the museum had many child inclusive programming. The kids love the interactive exhibits and the Aboriginal programming was really well done.
Fong L — Google review
This was well worth the visit. Very interactive with a lot of child friendly areas. The museum covered prehistoric times, natural history, and Austronesian history and the modern history of Taiwan's indigenous peoples.people's. This was very well done with a lot of content in English as well.

It's a little out of the way but I enjoyed our time here. It's a huge property for kids to run around and to explore. I love the silly drawings all over the museum. The exhibits are nicely displayed. It wasn't crowded at all, but we came on a weekday. There is a kid's area with some toys.
Ü L — Google review
Complete transformation of the museum post-COVID. The displays of Austronesian culture are amazing, both in the objects themselves but also in the stories that are told. Contemporary contributions and challenges to these communities are presented with thoughtfulness and respect. A must see museum. The only downside is that is is located far from any public transportation so you will need to taxi, bike or drive; its kind of out in the boonies!
Michael J — Google review
Fascinating exhibits on Taiwanese and Austronesian prehistory. Definitely worth a visit. Not very convenient to visit if you don't have a personal vehicle though.
Nicole P — Google review
I was very impressed by the museum! Both by the building itself and by all the information available. It covers Taiwanese history from 30.000 years ago all the way to 400 years ago, with 2 dedicated sections for the human side and environmental side of things. It also has a section for international historical sites and austronesian history. I would definitely recommend it to any english speaking tourists in the area. One thing to note: if you plan on using google maps to find your way there with a bycicle, it will guide you to the back of the building where the wheelchair accessible lift is located to access the onsite restaurant for some reason. The entrance is on the other side of the building, just in front of the massive parking space.

Beinan Archaeological Site Park is a significant attraction in Taitung, Taiwan, conveniently located within walking distance from the train station. It safeguards the well-preserved remains of the Beinan culture, known for their jade production from 2500 to 300 BC. The park features geological formations along the coast and offers insights into the indigenous people of the area through its museum and informative exhibits. Visitors can explore the park's scenic surroundings and visit the moon monolith via a bridge.
It’s a beautiful park. The exhibition is very good.

Interesting place for learning about tribes that lived on this land before the indigenous peoples of the area who survive today. The exhibition was small but interesting, although it was missing some connection to present day indigenous tribes or the connection in the translated content wasn't clear. The grounds are very nice for walking around though and the recreations of living spaces are very interesting. I would recommend also going to the National Museum of Prehistory to get more comprehensive understanding and context.

We still have some time to stay around Taidong so we tried to look near by place from train station. This place surprised me. Very great place to take you kids or dogs to run around and kill the energy! Highly recommended! No need to buy entry and here are some culture art center and architecture to see and the best part is the sit on the swing and do nothing, just enjoy the breeze!

This was a fun little surprise, right by the train station. It's nice to see something (pre-order)historical that actually relates to the island's history, not the republic of China's history. It's nothing huge or overwhelming, but a nice 30 mins stroll right by the train.

Taitung Art Museum is a small yet modern building that houses art exhibitions, a cafe, and outdoor installations. The museum offers free admission and has helpful staff who create a welcoming atmosphere. It features indoor air conditioning and clean washrooms for visitors' comfort. While the indoor exhibition spaces are limited, the museum compensates with ample outdoor activities suitable for children. The content primarily showcases indigenous artists' works, making it an interesting visit for art enthusiasts.

Although the museum was closed the day we went, the outdoor exhibits made up for it. It was like an adult’s play area where one can walk up a high platform, or climb up to the tree top. Coffee shops open around 10 am.
Anna H — Google review
Too often in our modern society it is difficult to “see it all.” Museums hold vast depths of history to explore, libraries yield lifetimes of books. This is not one of those places, and for that it deserves our praise. In as little as 10 minutes, you can experience all that Taitung Art Museum has to offer. It may just change your life. Keep your Smithsonian, your British Museum—I’ll be here looking at any one of the at least three paintings they have. Side note—there are some really cool wooden structures outside you can climb on. Definitely worth a visit.

AmaIng exhibition on stop motion on Joss paper, a great way to spend some time between dropping off our rental car and catching the ferry to green island. The staff here are also incredibly friendly, I had a great time talking with one of them about the exhibition and shared similarities across our cultures. They even called a taxi for us so we could get to Fugang harbor, as Uber isn't used in Taitung and there aren't many taxis outside of the train station.

Carrefour Taitung Store is a popular shopping destination in Taitung, Taiwan, offering a combination of grocery and department store items. The store provides free underground parking and accepts foreign credit cards for all transactions. Visitors can explore an impressive collection of canned and preserved foods not commonly found in other Carrefour branches. However, the store layout may be confusing to navigate, so it's advisable to grab a basket or cart upon entering as there are no spares inside.

Love the complimentary drinks at the entrance of the store for customers. This store has everything, like Ai Mai, but is a bit smaller. It’s a place where they truly sell everything! And they have lots of great food too! Kind of like a Walmart, but Asian with higher quality and more speciality goods and diversity in products at great prices. They have clothes, tools, camping gear, cookware, packaged foods, fresh groceries, ready made foods, gifts, backpacks, shoes, appliances, sports gear, the list goes on. Found these Sanrio glutinous rice blocks imported from Japan that turn into chewy soft mochi when heated. They taste especially good in hot pot and have a character print with edible colouring on each one making it cute and fun to eat too. They sell speciality foods from all over world, like from France to Italy to Japan and more. You really can find almost anything here. There were these interesting pizza crackers too! It’s like a place of adventure to shop and discover new products. If you need souvenirs, food, supplies, and gifts, this is the one stop shop for all of it.

Hamburger restaurant
Sam's Burger is a delightful eatery located on the East Coast that offers affordable prices, a pleasant ambiance, and attentive staff. Their fries are exceptionally crispy and mouthwatering. While the buns could be improved upon, their burgers themselves are excellent. The menu displays burger names in English but lacks detailed descriptions of toppings. The meat used for all their burgers is sourced from Australia, ensuring high quality.
Nice place and friendly staff. We had the chili chicken burger and the BBQ bacon cheeseburger, both were nice.

Nice burger place to stop in on your way through the east coast. Good prices, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The fries there were SUPER crispy and delicious. There burgers themselves were also great, but the bun wasn't as good, Which took away from the experience.
Eylon A — Google review
Pretty decent burger! Menu is in English with the burger name but lacking description of toppings in each burger. Bun is soft and all meat is sourced from Australia. Good price, around 210-250 for a burger, fries, and a drink. Plenty of seating
Jamie — Google review
Ordered mushroom and Swiss burger and BBQ chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. Refills are free and we ordered a vanilla milk shake which was also tasty but sadly no refills.

Genuine American feel in Taitung. As soon as I walked in the building I smelled burger joints back in the States. The taste of the burger is also very reminiscent of the States. The pasta sauce was delicious and the fries crispy and tasty. Price is very reasonable for the amount of food.
Cody J — Google review
Good food at reasonable prices. If you don't want fries, you can exchange for a salad. Nicely decorated.
Eric F — Google review
Visiting Taidong, I was in the mood for a good, Western style burger. This fit the bill. I had the teriyaki beef bacon cheeseburger which was very tasty. Free refills of soda was also a nice touch. Service was attentive and friendly. I will definitely return the next time I'm in town to try their other items.

Huge variety of burgers. Exactly as I wanted - delicious taste, proper meat, well cooked and juicy taste with fresh vegetables and crispy fried french fries. Tabasco, ketchup and mustard souce availible. Infinite amount of drink and smiling staff with clean environment. Photo is Jumbo Cheese Burger.

Vegan restaurant
The eatery, known as 蘇天助素食麵, is conveniently situated in the center of the city. Operating from 4 pm to 11 pm, this restaurant is managed by a team consisting of three young gentlemen and one delightful lady who display unwavering dedication in their roles. While their limited menu comprises only three delectable cuisines, they offer these dishes at affordable prices.
One of the best plant based bamboo soup, rice and noodles I’ve tried in Taiwan! Simple and delicious
Ama G — Google review
The restaurant is located in the heart of the city. The opening and service time is 4 pm to 11 pm. The restaurant is run by three boys and one sweet lady and they do their jobs with dedication. The restaurant usually doesn't have any menu because they only serve three cuisines but all three are delicious at affordable prices. The restaurant has indoor dining and sometimes a small crowd will be there for their orders. The restaurant is clean and well managed. They also have black tea. They also have takeaway facilities. My recommendation is to try tofu with noodles and bamboo shoot soup.

This is one of the best vegetarian restaurants in the city, if not in Taiwan! Local atmosphere, delicious, unique food, good prize. My only recommendation is to put less sugar into the meals. But this is a general "problem" with food in Taiwan. ;-)
Michèl B — Google review
Very good vegetarian options at Tainan city. Tasty, reasonably priced. Good dinner/supper place after a day hanging out.
Kahoo V — Google review
Most of vegetarian will sure mark this store in their dinner list when travel to Taitung. Both of us tried two bowls of noodles and glutinous rice. Taste was average to us as we are totally vegetarian, a little bit sweet, like the sweet Tainan flavor, for us nothing excited. But it’s very cheap and open till midnight. During summer time you may like to sit on table near to road side rather than in shop, sit near the cooking place was extremely hot but we can't choose coz the cooler sit was occupied.
Bhimrao A — Google review
A simple but solid meal. There is a small wait to get your order in but food get served pretty quickly. Food was so tasty we went back for seconds and went back the next day for more. This place is pet friendly.
Stephanie L — Google review
I am not vegetarian, but I found the menu here, four dishes in all, very tasty. The joint serves only vegetarian food, and its "rice cake," a highly flavored steamed rice with what I guess is a mushroom topping is unusual and very tasty. Service is friendly, plenty of local color.

Nice little street food restaurant that serves a few vegans dishes only (bamboo soup, sticky rice and noodle soup or dry noodles). Very fast, good prices and delicious.

The meats are good quality

Too expensive for this kind of hot pot. But if you don’t mind the vegetables are fresh. Meat is ok but you have to keep ordering.

(Translated by Google) The all-you-can-eat option is $660 for adults for two hours only. There are many kinds of items in the store, and they are all fresh. There are also many types of seafood. The ice cream is also great, including popsicles. There are more than 100 kinds in the topping area alone, which is really amazing. value! Moreover, the environment in the store is quite tidy and clean. In addition, the store has a special notice saying that food cannot be wasted. If food is wasted, there will be additional charges. I think this is good so that there will be no unfinished and thrown away ingredients.

(Translated by Google) It's rare for Taitung to have such an all-you-can-eat hotpot restaurant with rich ingredients. Although the price is a bit high, it's worth it considering the quality of the ingredients. There are really many types of food, and there are also many types of ice cream. Great~ It would be perfect if there were more types of desserts (such as small cakes)!

(Translated by Google) I came here to shop again and it felt much different from last time. The service attitude and speed of serving food are very good, and the service around collecting plates is also very good. It is recommended to add some meals that can be eaten immediately, such as fried food or pickles, and it would be better to add ground coffee.

(Translated by Google) The environment is clean, the ingredients are rich and fresh, but unfortunately there are no clams, but the shrimps are grass shrimps, which is very sincere, and the meat slices are thick, but it is a pity that the food is too weak to eat very few plates. There are all kinds of desserts, drinks and ice cream, and it is a sincere all-you-can-eat restaurant. It’s $600 per person, which is not cheap. It requires a lot of strength and is more cost-effective~ (Original)

(Translated by Google) The ingredients, both meat and seafood, are very fresh, and there are many choices of hot pot ingredients and vegetables. It is very economical and affordable. I want to eat here every day🤤 (Original)

金花軒卑南包仔店 is a must-visit spot for those craving delicious and substantial buns filled with juicy pork and bamboo. This place offers a delightful dining experience, making it an ideal choice for a satisfying dinner.
How huge is! Juicy pork mix with bamboo inside the bun, it can be my dinner today!
Hsin-Fang ( — Google review
Really good steamed buns, definitely worth the money!
Klara T — Google review
The price is cheap, but the taste seems off. The use of pickled bamboo shoots doesn't really mix will with the meat in the meat bun. It reminds me of the smell of sewage. The red baan and tarro bun also seems very bland and could use a bit more sugar or other flavors to lift the taste. Finally bun itself used in all the items is tough and dense and not light and with hint of sweatness.
Michael W — Google review
Very famous, price is ok, but taste is normal. the one with port / bamboo shoot (TWD22) tastes better than all others
Joseph C — Google review
The skin is ok, the bamboo & meat is a bit dry, not worthy waiting
Ting K — Google review
Many items are sold out. Pork bun is just ok..
