The Shingen-Mochi Factory Theme Park is a popular destination for those interested in traditional Japanese sweets. Visitors can enjoy free tours of the candy factory and witness skilled workers wrapping each mochi in under 6 seconds. The theme park also offers the opportunity to participate in making creative Japanese sweets using seasonal flavors. Additionally, there is a shop on-site where visitors can purchase a variety of affordable sweets and snacks.
No need to buy ticket or reservation to visit 🆓 It is an indeed new experience to able to see mochi making process, not the whole process basically only packing and see them goes through a conveyor, but to watch the staff working is kind of satisfying cuz they move quickly. Various kind of snack and mochi are available here, with super duper cute and traditional packaging 😻

Great factory outlet if you are into mochi. Tour is free and pretty fast, don’t come on a Sunday if you are looking for action in the tour. Most of the line is close. But if you are on the way to the north and don’t mind buying mochi. Can stop by There are two gift shops. When facing the main building at the entrance, The. Left side is close to expiry items and less frills but also cheaper. Right side are more for gifts to others, longer expiry Note that most items expire within a week so best to check Also lots of locals visit, it’s a factory outlet after all

Fun experience, get to see the whole process and a great shop at the end. Would recommend planning in advance and coming early before the tourist buses hit, as it can get very busy. Got my self the Yuru Camp Nadeshiko set, super tasty and super cute.

Having a free tour of what is going inside their factory is a fun learning experience, but if you are not a fan of those things, I wouldn't recommend going because it would be boring😊the matcha ice with shingen mochi is a must try, yummy 😋
SANDRA Y — Google review
Great free self guided tour of a real factory that makes mochi. Just wander around at your own pace and view the workers making mochi! At the end of the tour you can get the famous mochi ice cream! The place was packed on a Tuesday with tour buses
Jason O — Google review
Watch the man power required to wrap each shingen mochi! I love the shingen mochi from here, so I wanted to come visit this factory. It is very cool to just watch these skilled individuals wrap each mochi under 6 seconds. They have a store beside the factory that you wouldn’t want to miss! They sell a lot of different sweats and snacks for cheap. If you want to get cheap shingen mochi you better be ready to line up before the store opens. I was the first person in line and was there an hour before opening. The group 10 person back(throwing up numbers here but isn’t that far off) couldn’t get any by the time they came in. One per person but people come in groups, so be there early. They have other deals so not to worry but if you want cheap shingen mochi you better come early. They also have an “all you can stuff into a bag” event for 220 yen??? However you have to really get their early for this and get a number. Once your number is called you can participate.
Andrew A — Google review
A factory of a Yamanashi’s famous Shingen Mochi snack. Shingen mochi is a popular mochi snack in Yamanashi. This is the factory that makes all the product and you can see it’s been packaged by human one by one with super fast tie. The factory also has an outlet store and cafe.

The Shakado Museum of Jomon Culture is an impressive collection of Jomon pottery from ancient Japanese civilizations. Located near the Shaka do PA rest stop, it offers a convenient and fascinating glimpse into the lives of various cultures in Japan. The museum showcases pottery dating back to the 4th and 5th millennia BC, providing valuable insights into their way of life.
Amazing experience! The museum is new and beautiful, with a very large collection of Jomon pottery.

Excellent trove of Jomon pottery. Good for a short stop - and can be accessed directly from the high-way rest stop below. Jomon pottery is a fascinating look into the life of various cultures found throughout Japan- The Shakado holds a vast array of Jomon pottery from the 4th and 5th millennia BC. It also has a great view out over the Kofu area and surrounding mountains. You can go through the collection quite quickly (20 - 30 minutes is plenty), so don't plan on making it a day-trip. However, it's definitely work a visit. An interesting feature is that you can walk up stairs from the Shakado rest stop on the E20 below (at least the outbound stop) and combine a break from driving with a bit of very interesting culture.

(Translated by Google) Date of visit: August 13, 2025 While taking a break at Shakado PA (outbound) on the Chuo Expressway, I noticed a private staircase leading to the museum, so I took a look. Admission was ¥400 for adults, but JAF members could enter for ¥320. The museum is well worth seeing, with numerous Jomon pottery and clay figurines excavated from the Shakado ruins on display. Pottery examples include "Water Smoke Design Pottery" and "Human Body Design Pottery," which feature three-dimensional curved patterns reminiscent of water vapor, created using gentle curves. All 1,116 clay figurines excavated from the ruins were on display, and I found myself losing track of time as I marveled at their magnificent designs.

(Translated by Google) It's so moving to come across so many clay figurines and pottery that it feels like you're buried in the Jomon period, about 5,000 years ago! Of course, there are the idol clay figurines "Shaka-chan" and "Shakko-chan," but one of the joys is searching for your favorite clay figurines among the many. You can spend a relaxing time here on weekdays. Access is by car along a narrow road beside the highway, so you might be a little worried about whether it's really safe, but if you trust your navigation system, you'll be fine. You can also park your car at Shakado PA and walk there without getting off the highway, so it's a great place to stop by on a drive.

During the middle of November, as the grape season nears its end, visitors to 一古園 can enjoy a unique experience of barbecuing under grape vines. Despite this, guests are still able to pick their own grapes with the assistance of friendly staff. While the opportunity for picking grapes is no longer available, visitors can indulge in the deliciousness of these fruits. I highly recommend this place for those seeking a grape-picking location.

The Herb garden is a beautiful landscaped area that boasts fragrant flowers and herbs. Visitors can enjoy walking paths throughout the garden, which also features a small pond with Japanese koi fish. The garden includes a variety of fruits such as blueberries, and there's also an excellent cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. In addition to the cafe, visitors can browse several shops selling cosmetics, soaps, herbs, plants and souvenirs.
I recently visited a charming herb garden and was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no entrance fee, which is quite rare in many places across Japan. The garden is impeccably maintained, showcasing a stunning variety of herbs and flowers. The lavender was in full bloom, creating a beautiful sea of purple, while the roses are expected to bloom in October, promising another wave of color in the coming weeks. Additionally, all of the staff members were incredibly friendly and welcoming, enhancing the overall experience. If you have the time, this lovely garden is definitely worth a visit!

A lovely place to visit with kids! The garden is beautiful and peaceful — very enjoyable to walk around. My kids especially loved the grape juice, which was super tasty and refreshing. A great stop if you’re in the Katsunuma area!
Richard H — Google review
I visited the garden on the 11th October which was a warm and sunny day. To be honest I initially didn’t have high expectations as the garden looked to be quite small on googlemaps, however I absolutely loved what they’ve packed into it ! The garden looked stunning and I highly recommend it. If I’m ever back in the area I will definitely visit again. They had a very colourful display of cosmos, kochia, roses, various herbs, and many other flowers. There is a beautiful pond filled with Koi, plus lots of paths throughout the garden to get different views. They’ve got signs in many places telling you the best places to take a photo, and they really do help ! At this time of year they also had a Halloween display set up at the entrance. I saw a wide age range of people there, many looked to be locals (people with young kids) so it’s presumably popular. That said, the garden didn’t at any point feel too busy, which has sometimes spoiled the experience when I’ve visited other gardens. There is a small cafe selling kakigori, ice cream etc - you buy a ticket from a machine, however staff are more than willing to help you. There is a small plant shop, a wine shop, and a larger shop selling various herb and other related items. You can try various things there and I ended up buying some peach tea after having been given a sample. Cold peach tea was honestly perfect on such a hot day ! Thanks also to the staff in the larger shop who when I explained I needed a taxi to get to the train station were more than happy to order one for me. Extremely helpful and perfect customer service ! Key points Cost - it’s free to enter ! How to get there - I assume driving is probably the easiest, however as I don’t drive, I walked from Katsunuma Budou no Oka where I’d had lunch. I wouldn’t recommend that route though as there is not a lot of room in places between cars and pedestrians. In addition it is a fair distance to walk. There is an infrequent bus you can use which I believe stops not too far from the garden (ask at a tourist information office for details and a timetable) or simply get a taxi from Yamanashishi station or Katsunumabudakyo station.

Nestled in the picturesque vineyards of Katsunuma, Chateau Katsunuma stands as a testament to Japan's rich winemaking heritage, being the birthplace of the country's first wines. This charming wine resort offers visitors an opportunity to delve into the history and craft of Yamanashi-made wine. Although tours were temporarily halted due to COVID-19, guests can still enjoy shopping for exclusive limited-edition wines and delightful ciders.
Perched in the serene vineyards of Katsunuma, The Château Katsunuma offers a truly memorable dining experience. The European-inspired setting, coupled with Japanese elegance, creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. Service was impeccable, with each beautifully presented dish highlighting seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The Yamanashi beef, perfectly paired with a local red wine, was a standout showcasing a delightful blend of Japanese and French flavours. The sommelier's insights into the château’s wines added depth to our meal, making the tasting both enriching and enjoyable. Finishing with a light seasonal fruit dessert, we left thoroughly satisfied and eager to return.

We went here for a belated birthday meal, it was good. The portions were sufficient to fill me up and the menu was varied enough to entertain. The staff are attentive, but I found them too attentive as if they were observing, rather than being ready to respond. I've not really experienced anything like it, but it didn't put me at ease. I was happy with everything else and I'll be going back. They were very accommodating with our initial cancellation (due to an exciting bout of gastroenteritis) and my menu requests (not a fan of fish). Overall, excellent. We'll be going back.

(Translated by Google) Dinner for two Half course and Koshu wine beef course From the amuse-bouche to the dessert, both courses were delicious! When I mentioned that I'm currently caffeine- and alcohol-free, they accommodated my final coffee with a flexible schedule, which I really appreciated. My companion ordered wine, which was reasonably priced and even included wines exclusive to the restaurant that aren't served at Chateau Katsunuma, located on the first floor. Depending on where you sit, the view is great, and it's definitely worth it. Paintings by Tsuguharu Foujita and Chagall are also casually displayed along the corridor. French cuisine can be a bit out of reach for most people, but with such good value for money, a hotel will be built on the same site in three years, so I imagine it will be packed. I think this restaurant is definitely worth a visit, not just for tourists but also for locals.

As you would expect from a winery restaurant, there is a wide selection of cheap drinks. There are also delicious, non-alcoholic white and red wines for drivers. All of the dishes are carefully and intricately prepared, beautifully presented, delicious, and impressive! The bread served with the course is grape buns and germ rolls from the attached bakery. Of course, we bought some on the way home. 皆吉 is a traditional Japanese restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience, showcasing their specialty of housemade udon noodles served in a flavorful broth. Situated in a charming rustic setting with tatami mat seating and an exquisite garden, this establishment exudes an old Japanese-style atmosphere. Renowned for their houtou dish, which combines vegetables, udon noodles, and miso soup, 皆吉 stands out as one of the finest options in Yamanashi.
Beautiful house with a scenic outdoor garden. We enjoyed the speciality hotto udon with hot soup and the chewy texture of the cold noodles.

If you are looking for some typical regional dish (Houtois a dish with vegatables, udon and miso soup), here you should go. There are a lot of Hotou in Yamanashi but this restaurant is certainly the best one. the atmosphere is old japanese styl house with the nice garden. I have tried couple of these dish and if you are looking for the quality wise, this place is for you.

French restaurant
Bistro
Bistro Mill Printemps offers a pleasurable dining experience where patrons can enjoy the delectable beef thighs accompanied by a luscious almond sauce. This charming establishment, led by a female chef, provides a warm and inviting ambience. The food served is of high quality, with prices that are fair and affordable. The cuisine at Bistro Mill Printemps is exceptional and comes highly recommended for those seeking an exquisite dining experience in French cuisine.
Fruitful Visit to Yamanashi & Wonderful French Dining Experience Visited Yamanashi to pick grapes and enjoy all the amazing seasonal fruits. For dinner, we chose this French restaurant based on its outstanding reviews, and it truly lived up to the hype. It was a quiet Monday night, with just two couples dining, which made for a relaxed atmosphere. We had pre-ordered the 4-course menu, and every dish was memorable. The salad featured crisp, local vegetables—so delicious that I forgot to take a photo! The fish was perfectly crispy outside and paired beautifully with a tomato and olive oil sauce. The steak arrived cooked just right, served with a lovely red wine sauce. Dessert was a refreshing combination of pear compote and berry sherbet. The total bill was surprisingly reasonable, under ¥14,000 for two. Service was excellent: attentive, friendly, and never intrusive. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Yamanashi!

French restaurant
Restaurant Kaze offers refined European cuisine in a winery setting that resembles a church, providing patrons with scenic vineyard vistas. Reservations are encouraged to secure a musical accompaniment during dinner, enhancing the overall experience. The menu showcases outstanding dishes such as roast beef and grilled steak, both highly recommended for sampling. The restaurant boasts an elegant ambiance with gentle lighting and stunning mountain views. Notably, Kaze, meaning 'wind' in Japanese, is its official name.
Every once in a while, you have a meal you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Today, I was fortunate to have that experience at Kaze.

THE BEST PLACE TO EAT!!! My family and I did wine hopping and had a reservation here for dinner. It’s one of the only places open late to eat AND THE FOOD IS AMAZING. elegant, fresh, and tasty food. They also serve wine from one of the wineries down the road that they own. So it’s a great experience to pair the wine with the meals. We decided to get a bottle of the Monte for dinner and the server recommended the vintage bottle for the same price. He then let us try the difference of the Monte vintage from 2017 and a 2022 Monte so we could see the difference of the same wine but different years. We didn’t have to ask! He was just that thoughtful! They also had a pianist playing during our meal with really added to the atmosphere. They also had a wine wasabi that was wonderful with the steak!!! We also had trouble finding a taxi to our Airbnb about 25 minutes away. They helped us rearrange one and was very thoughtful because it’s hard to get a taxi after 7pm in the prefecture. this is a must!!! Especially since all the other restaurants are French…

We went for dinner without booking but the receptionist welcomed us. She mentioned that the restaurant would encourage customers to book in advance so that she could arrange a pianist to play for dinner! Food was absolutely fantastic. Both roast beef and grilled steak are must-try menu items. The restaurant ambience is classic with warm lights and beautiful mountain views. By the way, the name of the restaurant is Kaze (not Fu), which means 'wind' in Japanese.

Great atmosphere and service, but unfortunately the food was disappointing. My stew was quite bitter and unpleasant, and the other dishes were also rather average. Maybe the soup was good.
Mert S — Google review
Wonderful service, great views, and delicious food. Very worth a detour to dine here! Follow their wine pairing recommendations.

My daughters and I came to this restaurant in June and it was an amazing experience. Atmosphere is out of this world, serving top notch, and food and wine were excellent.

Locally sourced food, Japanese, fresh, simple but bright Japanese western influenced food, presented in a beautiful setting with some amazing wine choices! Unforgettable experience. Making reservations is recommended but we called 10 minutes before and they gave us a table with a view.
