Inuyama Castle, perched on a strategic hilltop overlooking the Kiso River, was constructed in 1537 by Oda Nobuyasu, uncle of the renowned warlord Oda Nobunaga. It is one of Japan's twelve remaining original castles and holds the distinction of having the oldest standing keep in the country.
We love how the red tori gates stand before entering the castle. Took so many nice pictures here. Very captivating castle. You have to take out your shoes and carry them with a plastic bag which they will provide. This is a good practice to preserve the castle. We enjoyed the castle very much.
WL W — Google review
It is fun to see how the Japanese enshrined the tree that saved the castle. The castle construction was easily visible - no nails, flexible for earthquakes. The steep steps and low head clearance to slow down enemies was entertaining as was the existence of the room for throwing rocks at the enemy. Very well-kept and well organized tourist attraction. There were also some well-preserved suits of "armor", a bunch of Tori gates, lovely stonework walls. Not speaking/reading Japanese a bit of a handicap; fortunately we had an English-speaking guide. The town also had a charming small museum of mechanical dolls.
Lisa T — Google review
History is on full display here, with little to no guardrails. Going into the castle you are asked to remove your shoes and you are given a plastic bag to put them in. Once inside, your butt puckers (if you are me) at the front door of the soooper steep stairs (might as well be ladders) that take you up to the different floors. At the top, they actually let you WALK OUTSIDE THE PERIMETER at 19m above the ground with a .7m rotted hand rail that says "do not lean against" aka don't expect this to save you if you trip. On the way back down the stairs (ladder) I went backwards and it was much easier, (although I did get laughed at) even though I still was sweating because seriously these stairs are things my nightmares are made of. Sooo cool. Best touristy legit spot in all of Japan so far for us.
Pipi G — Google review
View from the castle is breathtaking! And I really appreciate they didn’t turn the castle into a museum like the Osaka Castle. Much of the original structure is preserved and you are required to take off your shoes to walk around inside the castle, like the Himeiji Castle. If you appreciate Japanese history, this one is worth a visit!

One of the five national treasures in Japan. We visited on a weekday and it wasn't too busy - we were able to walk up and down ok and enjoy the view. Feels really high at the top! Worth a visit if you're in Nagoya

Entrance fee 550yen, 4storey high with steep stairs, 60 mins queue on a Sunday. One of the 5 castles of National Treasure. Worth the wait and effort. View on castle top is beautiful.
Loris H — Google review
Inuyama castle is a one-of-a-kind castle with beautiful view points of the city and original architecture however the ascent is very tedious and might not be suitable for some people. To go to the castle you must go through the shrine. All in all, it is a very worthwhile experience.
Đông V — Google review
One of my fav castle visits so far. They keep most of the original design and it has the best traditional look and feel. One could feel the design and its purpose for defending the castle.

Sankoinari Shrine is a Shinto shrine situated at the base of Shiroyama, near Inuyama Castle. It is famous for its striking red torii gates, heart-shaped pink prayer tablets, and a wishing stone. The shrine is believed to bring luck in marriage and fortune.
Sankoinari is a charming and picturesque Shinto shrine located in Inuyama. We took a train to Inuyamayuen Station and walked there. One of its unique tradition and attraction is the practice of washing money in the shrine's pond to attract wealth. Just pay 100 yen at the counter to redeem the basket, place your coins/notes (in whatever currency you prefer) into the basket and start washing! You then keep the notes that you washed in your wallet and not spend it, for the blessings. It's hilarious that some of the keywords on Google translate it as 'money laundering', as this ritual is definitely not illegal! The shrine also has an attractive short pathway lined with vibrant red torii gates, similar to the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. Overall, It's a beautiful and serene place that must be part of your itinerary when visiting Inuyama。
YC N — Google review
Great Inari shrine, close to the castle. Not so crowded. If you want you can go to the overcrowded and more famous Inari in Kyoto, otherwise there are many other quiet and peceful places like this :)
Giuseppe — Google review
Lovely place, cute keychains and omamori sold! Also a place to wish for good luck in relationships. The tori gates were similar to the ones at fushimi inari taisha, although fewer, good photo spot nonetheless.

This is the Shrine that you can see before you get into the Inuyama Castle. Many Japanese are visiting the area. You can also see some nice red torii gates around
Ardith T — Google review
The Temple or more precisely, Shrine, was traditionally worshipped and respected by the followers and believers for the farming harvest, although it is gradually transformed to be worshipped and prayed for the business and operation harvest. But the Temple even goes further by claiming that worshippers can donate to have candle lightening and then wash their money [notes or changes] in the washing pond inside the shrine. The photos here do show one female worshipper who did wash her money in small pond after candle lightening. The Temple also promotes other worship-and-pray-for-harvest for relations and others, in addition to business. Because the Temple is located near Inuyama Castle, most visitors would visit the Shrine together.

This was a nice shrine to visit with plenty of paid parking near by. There is also a cool castle right behind the shrine that is worth checking out.

Inuyama Castle Town Showa Alley

Inuyama Castle Town Showa Alley, also known as Showa Alley, is a charming and nostalgic street located between Inuyama train station and Inuyama Castle. The name 'Showa Alley' reflects the post-war era when Japan was undergoing westernization. This popular tourist spot is lined with numerous shops, stalls, cafes, and restaurants offering a variety of products. Visitors can immerse themselves in the old-fashioned atmosphere reminiscent of Edo-era towns while exploring this historic castle town.
About 10 minutes walk from Meitetsu Inuymana station. It is an alley in the Inuymana castle town. It revives the nostalgic atmosphere of the Showa era. Besides food & drink stalls, there is a game corner, a shrine, toilet, and a free large dining area. There is an archery area on the second floor. Most stalls open after 11 am.

10 mins walk from inuyama station. A lot of the shops were not opened when I visited on Tuesday morning. Quite empty. A bit disappointing. And cars can still enter the valley so be careful of incoming vehicles

The perfect place to chill out especially the outdoor is extremely hot! All design and store inside are so beautiful, decorating the old Japan, shops selling classic snacks and food with good quality.

Very authentic place. The castle is original, although relatively small. You can go inside, but be careful, there are very steep stairs.

This alley is so nice. One of the asthetic and historical places in Japan that ive always seen in Instagram and other tourist websites. This alley is going to Inuyama Castle. You can also see from afar the tip of the castle. Many restaurants and souvenir shops are in the area. I love this place!

A serene and beautiful Japanese wooden castle.
WH C — Google review
I was there for the Inuyami Festival, which was incredible. I was with a group and we had arrived early in the am to watch the floats. We also visited the castle. There was street food all over and arts and crafts to see and purchase. At first, I thought it would've been hard to fill up our time before the lighting of the lanterns at night, but, somehow, the time flew. The people of the town were amazingly friendly and you could tell there was a strong sense of community there. The parading of the floats and the lighting of the lanterns was one of the most extraordinary things I've seen in my life. The wait in the brisk cold was more than worth it. The crowds were worth it. It seemed like a very unique town with very rich history. Simply amazing!😀

I wish I spend more time in this street. So many interesting goods and food. Very cute and antique area. You must see the 'Donden-kan'. World heritage!

Daishoji Temple, also known as Daihonzan Narita-san Nagoya Betsuin Daishoji, is a serene mountaintop temple in Inuyama, Japan. The steep stairs leading to the temple offer stunning views of Inuyama Castle and the city below. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll through Inuyama Shitamachi, an old castle town with local artisans and craftspeople plying their trade in its lanes and alleys.
A peaceful temple sitting on top of the hill overwatching the entire town. If you have time to spare, please do visit here as the first stop in Inuyama.

One of the many Buddhist temple in Japan. This is in Inuyama and is situated on the hills. The temple has a very beautiful idol of Budha and I felt really peaceful while watching the Budha sitting in prayer pose. When I visited the temple in mid February it was not crowded. Was feeling peaceful while visiting the temple, it has the city view from top and it is beautiful especially during sunny day.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Little World, located in Inuyama, is an open-air anthropological museum that showcases the homes and lifestyles of cultures from around the world. Established in 1970, it combines elements of an amusement park with those of an anthropological museum. The premises feature 32 facilities displaying cultures from 23 countries as well as various regions in Japan. Visitors can explore buildings representing architectural styles from over 22 different countries and try on traditional ethnic costumes from places like Korea, Germany, and France.
I have been to Little World many many times over the ten years. Because there's always different food fairs throughout the year it never gets boring to visit. The walking course is around 3 kilometers to finish and generally takes around 2 to 3 hours to complete, depending on how many pavilions I stop at. My favorite pavilions are generally the Peru, Germany and Italy pavilions as those usually have the best food in my opinion. There are several other pavilions worth visiting as well, however. It's also worth mentioning there's a small coffee shop that sells the best Kona coffee when it's open and is always the highlight of visiting Little World. Generally it's only open on weekends. If you don't want to walk there are buses available, I think the bus fare is ¥500 but I never use the bus so I'm not 100% sure if that's still what it costs. In spring Little World is particularly beautiful with all the blooming flowers. Sakura season is especially beautiful there.
Spaceman S — Google review
Good for solo travelers I love the immersive experience, especially the collecting of stamps. It felt like I am traveling to another country. Sadly some of the infrastructure are under construction, but you can still enjoy the view both inside and outside.
Ennah C — Google review
Nice place that serves as exhibits for various cultures throughout various points in history. It goes through the history of various people like the indigenous Americans, the Micronesians, the Ancient Greek, Africans, Japanese, Chinese, etc. Only gripe is that it's very hot during the summer with not a lot of summer. Also, this is a place in which you can spend a whole day, but there are not many food options in the museum/park itself.
Will Z — Google review
We came around 5pm during Obon holiday for the late opening until 8pm. There was a food market and Thai lantern event with a fireworks show. Included in the ticket price this was quite a bargain. The only issue is that due to everyone leaving at the same time, traffic was gridlocked and it took about one hour just to leave the car park! Plan ahead and leave slightly early if you can to avoid this.
Alix — Google review
I took my 9 year old here. First, it’s huge. There is a lot to see. It’s very unique. A bit of history. Plus, you can introduce your kids to other cultures. And, the kids can buy a passport book for ¥400 and collect stamps. The stamps are really nice. They are ink stamps. Just a couple of negatives. It’s a little expensive (¥1,000 for parking?!!). ¥2,200 for an adult. They allow dogs, which is fine, but I think they should put a strict rule about the dogs. One dog was very excitable and kept barking and trying to get people. It was rather annoying. And, there was a group of people with huge dogs. I asked if I could pet one, they motioned to the one I could pet As I stepped toward it, their other huge dog leapt at me and barked aggressively. If dogs are not friendly, they should not be allowed in. The place has a few areas in need of repairs. One set of stairs was crumbling. We stayed about 5 hours. Overall, it’s worth the trip. Just be aware of the cost, and the numerous dogs.
Apple C — Google review
A good place for day out with loving ones. Pets also allowed. There are various kinds of restaurants of various countries. As long as it’s name Little world 🌎, you can see only few countries here. I think they missed some world famous civilizations and countries. However here you can enjoy 😉 Some places are just like a park and gardens. There are smoking areas also here. Enjoy 😉
Prabhash M — Google review
It's not well kept, so I would say the entry fee needs to be revised. But it does give you a glimpse and taste from other countries/regions. Would recommend that you wear comfortable shoes because the displays are about a 2-5 min walk apart
Shanique K — Google review
If you like nature and knowing something about other countries, this is the place you should go. My son enjoyed too. There's just one thing, not all the exhibits are accessible for wheelchair or stroller. I bought the ticket at the train station, it was amazing. They charged me only ¥3900. That included the train tickets, the bus ticket, the access at Little world and when we got there they gave us ¥1500 in cash coupon!!!

Nestled in the charming castle town, Kuraya is a delightful spot for those with a sweet tooth, especially fans of dango. This traditional Japanese treat has been given a modern twist here, featuring vibrant fruit-flavored bean pastes that make each skewer not only delicious but also Instagram-worthy. The "Koi Komachi Dango" allows you to select two flavors from an enticing array of options, ensuring every bite is unique and satisfying.
Look at these かわいい (kawaii) dango, Japanese dumplings made out of rice flour. This set (¥600) came with peach, caramel, matcha, strawberry, lemon, red bean paste, plum and kinako topping. I really liked their strawberry and caramel flavors. Also, the green tea that came with it was a perfect match to this sweet treat.

Japanese restaurant
The Japanese restaurant Kotobukiya offers a unique dining experience with a limited menu selection that sets it apart. While the choices may be fewer, this adds to the restaurant's special appeal. The service is prompt, and although you need to call the staff for orders or assistance, they are attentive and approach your table promptly. The prices of their meals range from 1000 yen to 1400 yen, providing options for different budgets.
A rare find: a restaurant specializing in ayu (sweetfish) dishes * Order: Ayu Kamameshi (ayu rice pot) and Ayu Zosui (ayu rice porridge) * Price: ¥1650 and ¥1300 respectively * Taste: Delicious! The ayu was cooked perfectly, tender and soft enough to eat from head to tail. There were two ayu in each dish. Homemade pickles were also served. * Portion size: Just right for the average man. Might be a bit much for women. * Serving time: Approximately 5 minutes * Menu: Primarily ayu dishes. Kishimen (flat noodles) are also available. * Other: Desserts and alcoholic beverages are also available. * Overall price: Around ¥1200 to ¥1700 per person. Slightly higher than the Japanese average, but very reasonable considering the quality. * Vegetarians: Vegetarians should order the kishimen. * Service: Polite, with a smile, and attentive. * Interior: Showa era atmosphere. The interior has a historical feel. * Cleanliness: Clean. * Size: A bit narrow. * Cashless payments: All forms of cashless payment are accepted, including credit cards and QR codes. * Other: Primarily open for lunch. It can get quite crowded around 12:00, so it's recommended to visit around 11:30 or 13:00. * Located right across from Inuyama Castle, so it's easy to find. I want to visit again.

We ordered Ayu Kamameshi and Kishimen, they're all good, even tastier if we added with chili powder (of course we're Indonesia, who love spicy foods). The price range from 900 to below 2000 for each person. Tbey only receive cash.

You need to call the staff if you want to order or ask for something, so, you need to wait for them to come near your table. The meals price range are between 1000yen~1400yen. They have the normal table and tatami style dining space.

However, for us who like sweetfish and miso stew, it was a little different. First of all, the sweetfish rice pot I ate came out extremely quickly, and I wondered if it was really cooked? I can understand if the sweetfish was frozen, but it seemed like they grilled it just before cooking it. The seasoning was good. The miso stewed udon that my friend ate was made with kishimen noodles, which was a surprise for us from Nagoya. Miso stewed udon should be that hard udon. If it's kishimen, it should be miso kishimen. If you stew kishimen, it will melt, but it can't be helped since we're not in Nagoya. It seems that the taste was good. I'm not sure if either of them tasted authentic, but they came out quickly, you can eat it quickly, and the atmosphere was good, so it was fine.

Unagi restaurant
Unakyu is a traditional Japanese restaurant in the Inuyama area that has been serving Hitsumabushi for over 100 years. The eel is slightly crispy with a nice char, not overly doused in sauce, and goes well with dashi and wasabi. It offers a different way of cooking unagi with less sauce, giving it a more crunchy texture. The restaurant is considered a hidden gem in Inuyama and provides an authentic dining experience.
A hidden gem in Inuyama. Every other restaurant on the main shopping street was full and luckily this wasn’t. A different way of cooking unagi where there’s less sauce on the unagi itself, giving it a more crunchy texture.

Very yummy! The best eel fish in town! We really enjoy the food and atmosphere! 💕✅
Chu M — Google review
I thought I absolutely lucked out when there was a place serving Hitsumabushi that was on the way to the main Inuyama Meitetsu station and had a stone plaque outside saying it's been in operation for over 100 years. The eel was slightly crispy and had a nice char to it. It wasn't overly doused in sauce and went well with the dashi and wasabi. Honestly, this is eel done right. They seem to receive a fair amount of reservations so it would be good to book in advance - there were at least 3 groups with reservations. Or you could try to walk-in just as the doors open at 5pm which was what I did.

This is one of the traditional Japanese Unagi (freshwater eel) restaurants in the Inuyama area. I loved that the eel's skin was crispy in western style. I highly recommend this restaurant. The photo is Tokujo, two eels, and regular-sized rice.

Tofu restaurant
Japanese restaurant
If you find yourself near Inuyama Castle, make sure to stop by さくら茶屋 for a delightful culinary experience. This charming eatery offers a cozy atmosphere and is known for its unique Sakura Gozen set, which features five pieces of grilled tofu dengaku—soft tofu topped with a savory miso glaze that’s perfectly caramelized. Accompanied by vegetable rice, soup, salad, and pickles, this meal is both satisfying and light on the stomach.
Their Dengaku Kushi was absolutely delicious! Served as a pleasant light snack after visiting Inuyama Castle and Sankoinari Shrine. I waited for around 5-10mins outside the store. The tofu was glazed with a sweet and savory miso sauce, and grilled. It's smooth, creamy texture melts in your mouth. Worth a first bite when you finished your castle visit and embarking on your food journey along the streets of Inuyama.
YC N — Google review
If you’re looking for a light, healthy but delicious meal near Inuyama Castle, this is a clear winner. Cosy ambience and great service. No English menu or English-speaking staff but there’s only one set menu available. The main dish is tofu dengaku; melting soft tofu coated with miso and grilled to a nicely caramelised crust. The moreish rice had little specks of salted crunchy pickles. I could have eaten a few bowls of it. To round it all off, there was a small glass of grape vinegar and red bean jelly. At 1500 yen for the meal, this was a gem of a find!
Josephine H — Google review
Very cute tofu restaurant with just a few seats inside, and a one set menu for lunch. Comes with rice, salad, tofu skewers, and a few other items, for only 1500 yen. Very good, very cute, very cheap.

Great, relaxed restaurant near Inuyama Castle. The fried tofu is very good. Friendly staff. On a cold day get the hot sake and take a load off here. No English options on the menus (in case that is an issue for you).

Excellent restaurant that serves local specialty of tofu covered in miso then grilled. The set menu was stunning and a great price. Right outside inuyama castle entrance. Staff was lovely.

For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Museum Meiji-Mura, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Momotaro Shrine. All together, your day would be filled with about 6 hours of non-stop fun.

Museum Meiji-Mura is an open-air museum located near Inuyama, Japan, offering a glimpse into the country's Meiji era architecture. The village features over 60 original buildings from this period, which was known for significant architectural progress. The museum was established in 1965 to preserve these historical structures that were at risk of being demolished due to post-war industrial expansion.
The best architectural museum in Japan. The diversity and maintenance of these history buildings are amazing. This is something that you cannot find in those downtown cities. The value behind it is beyond the ticket price. You may want to reserve at least 4 or 5 hours to really enjoy the place. There's multiple bus rides from Inuyama Station, but please watch out for the last bus on the way back though.
Jason H — Google review
We came to Meij Mura on a beautiful spring day. It is often considered the best architectural museum in Japan. It features buildings from the Meiji area (1868-1912) organized in 5 areas. We started in Area 5 and walked our way back to Area 1. It is huge and you can definitely spend hours here, but if you’re strapped for time our highlights were: the Imperial Hotel, the prison, St Francis Xavier Cathedral, the Kabuki, the Post Office, and the Renga-dori road area. You can purchase tickets for the bus, steam train, and tram that run through the park, but please note the Steam Train only runs on certain days (you can check the schedule on the website). There are restaurants on site but they are of course a little pricey, so some reviews suggest bringing a picnic. We did not know this, but if you visit Inuyama castle first, you can get a combined discount ticket (not available if you visit Meiji Mura first).
Sarah H — Google review
The whole site is really well run. The variety of historical architecture is extraordinary. It would take weeks of travel to see this much history. The imperial hotel lobby is the most incredible 3 dimensional space I've ever encountered. I couldn't believe the place was not any more crowded than it was especially given it was a Sunday.
Robert C — Google review
Museum is so large we could have easily spent the whole day there. There are 5 zones and many beautiful architecture and Meiji buildings, each with an educational description of it's uses and relevant histories. A lot of effort was put into the exhibits' details and the write-ups were done very thoughtfully. We were lucky to be there during an anime collaboration with Golden Kamuy, where there was a mystery walk (I.e. cluedo) which helped bring the buildings to life. Only qualm is that all descriptions are in japanese so some things are lost in translation, but pictures and artifacts are good enough to feel the history. Highly recommended for Japanese history buffs. Transport from the nearest train station is very convenient and accurate. There are plenty of eateries within the museum, though a bit pricier than outside. Parking is available outside the museum. Visitors can also pay for tour pacakges or to dress up in Meiji attire. Be prepared to walk a lot and take lots of nice photos.
Cassie — Google review
If you love architecture, this museum is a must! I dreamed of visiting it for 18 years, and it didn't disappoint! As many, I went just for the FLW Imperial Hotel Lobby, however my experience here made me interested in Meiji era architecture. The smell of wood and the unpretentious authenticity of buildings in a serene nature setting transport you back in time. I can't wait to go back and explore more!
Georgi G — Google review
It's a must visit place. 3 hours only if you run around, so plan to stay longer. Very cozy places to sit and eat or just drink coffee. Loved it, any time of the year. A bit treaky to walk, but possible, though the bus is recommended, costs 500yen from Inuyama station and bus stop is marked.
Helen V — Google review
Great museum with various historic buildings, staff tried to explain us lots of things in English too! We do speak a bit of Japanese but it was really appreciated. The website says there's too much to explore in one day but I think if you're used to walking a lot it's fine. It was very easily accessible by train and bus from Nagoya.
Shizu — Google review
Recommended for people who like history, monuments, photography and nature It doesn’t matter if you don’t like to see monuments or museums. The buildings here are beautiful and special. The flowers, rivers and trees along the way are also very beautiful. Now the hydrangea is in full bloom in June. The whole park is very suitable for taking photos. I don’t like to take photos and walk around this suburb. It’s quiet and comfortable with few tourists. I especially recommend the small shop inside. The earrings and necklaces are cheap and exquisite. There are photo shooters, which are also distinctive and fun. There is a performance. If you can’t understand Japanese, you can go in and see the performance venue and the opening song and dance in the Meiji period. It’s very novel.

Nestled in the foothills of Inuyama, Oagata Shrine is a stunning hilltop destination that captivates visitors with its expansive grounds and breathtaking gardens. Accessible from Meitetsu Rakuda Station, it features convenient parking options near the entrance.
A beautiful sprawling shrine in the foothills of Inuyama. The buildings and gardens are awesome. At this time ( early spring/late winter) there is a gorgeous display of weeping plum blossoms covering an entire hill behind the main temple area. It is extremely scenic.

Tagata Shrine, located near the village of Inuyama, is a wooden shrine dedicated to fertility and known for its phallic sculptures. The shrine hosts the Tagata Honen Sai Festival, also known as the Penis Festival, every year on March 15th. During this festival, a 3-meter wooden phallus is paraded through the streets by villagers. Visitors come to pray for good health and prosperity, with many seeking blessings for male health or healthy babies.
This was such a fun festival. It was fun to see and try the interesting food served here. I loved seeing the festive energy. The free sake they handed out was great and you could have as much as you wanted. I am so happy I got to see this festival. 😊😍😄❤️

Momotaro Shrine is a unique and unusual shrine that draws visitors from around the world. It is dedicated to the ancient Japanese folk tale of Momotaro, also known as Peach Boy, who defeated evil Oni with his companions - a monkey and a dog. The shrine features colorful ogre statues and peach-shaped torii gate, along with various statues depicting characters from the folklore.

It's more voluminous than it looks and will fill you up. Not too sweet, not too spicy, delicious until the last bite! Another restaurant that is famous for its gyu-nabe (beef hotpot) is a bit more expensive (3 to 4 times the price of this restaurant), so this gyu-nabe bowl is still good. The only thing that came with the salad was the green perilla dressing, which I thought didn't go well with the salad with potato salad on top. The salad itself (potato salad) was also very delicious. I used to visit frequently, for a dine in or take out. As someone who tried many Peruvian restaurants in Japan, i must say that La Casa Vieja has the best pollo ala brasa in Japan. You can tell that the owner really puts his heart into the process of making the chicken, the dedication translates to the genuine and comforting taste of the chicken. All the other dishes are amazing as well! Ceviche, lomo saltado, cajachina, everything you name it they got it and they got it good. The slow-roasted chicken was fragrant and tender, the fries were crispy and without excess oil, and the salad was average, but I liked the dressing. For drinks, we had typical Peruvian drinks: Inca cola and purple corn juice. I think it's a taste that generally appeals to Japanese people. Next time I would like to try the menu on another day of the week. ---2021/11 --- Visited again on Sunday afternoon. Among the 6 types of set meals, I ordered the beef cutlet on Genovese. (The official menu name is unknown) Set meals are a flat rate of 1,200 yen. Boiled potatoes are topped with a cheese sauce called Huancaina sauce 😋 The beef cutlet was especially delicious! It was hot and tender, and the spices were perfectly seasoned!! Marinated with chili peppers, Peruvian soy sauce, herbs, etc. Roast chicken 🍗 Round and round at the store It's spinning ~ Choose size from half wing or 1 wing. Half a chicken is enough for two people. (Maybe 3 people can go) You can also choose to add potatoes and salad. It's very filling and comes with chicken, salad, and fries. The water in the salad makes the fries mushy, so maybe that's a negative point. According to Turkish people, this is a popular menu item, so you may not be able to get it unless you make a reservation by phone in advance. Most of the customers are foreigners, but don't worry, there are some staff members who are fluent in Japanese! Italian restaurant
Mangiare is the ultimate destination in Inuyama for authentic Italian cuisine. Renowned for its delectable pasta and pizza, this restaurant has been captivating customers for over twenty years. Its charm lies not only in the scrumptious dishes but also in the timeless tradition of tossing pizza dough to the ceiling, just as it did when Mangiare first opened its doors. The experience at this establishment is truly exceptional, with each visit promising a delightful feast that never disappoints.

I'm hungry and want to eat right away! I don't think it's suitable for people who say that (especially when it's crowded) This restaurant is recommended only for those who want to eat truly delicious food even if it takes a long time. Next time I would like to visit for lunch and also try the recommended menu on the blackboard. The owner was friendly and had a great sense of humor, so we had a great time. Thank you for the meal. Below are my thoughts on the food ☺ French dressing on the salad? but Very delicious. handmade? Inuyama tea leaves are mixed into the bread😲 Fluffy texture✨ Pizza and pasta are on the lunch menu. There is only one type of each, so there is no choice lol If you are picky, it is better to check in advance. Looks good. *Even during lunch time, You can order the grand menu👌 Today's pizza is "Kinoko and new balls" →Throwing pizza dough into the air Performance of stretching the dough It's amazing◎ ← Recommended points for children ② It's a big pizza, but it's crispy. It goes perfectly 😋 The tomato sauce is thin Therefore, the taste is not absorbed only by tomatoes, You can enjoy the taste of the ingredients even more. For lunch, you can choose from 2 types of pasta and 5 types of pizza. This pizza is the crispy type. It's baked in a stone oven, so it's crispy, light, and delicious. The pasta was a thin noodle type and felt a bit overcooked, but it was still within an acceptable range. I think I'll order it al dente next time. The lunch set comes with salad, Inuyama tea bread, pizza, pasta, dessert, and a drink, and is a good value at 1,500 yen per person. The chef seemed busy with one operation on this day, but the customer service was also good. Although the building is old, the inside of the store is kept clean. However, the vinyl sheet on the table is a little sticky, so it might be better not to use vinyl... ♢Reservations possible ♢Cash only ♢Parking available (Original)

It has been stretched out enough and is roasted to a crisp. It's delicious. They also have courses, and this time I ordered a course, but next time I'm thinking of ordering a lot of pizza. The red wine in the decanter also has a good balance of sweetness and astringency, and it has a nice texture that makes it drinkable ( ´∀`) I'll be back again soon. This is a recommended restaurant for authentic pizza. They take pride in their culinary creations, which are expertly crafted using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. The menu offers a fusion of French and Western cuisine, providing a range of options that cater to various price points. Museums
Nestled in the serene woodlands of Shigaraki, southeast of Tokyo, the Miho Museum is a hidden gem designed by I.M. Pei, renowned for his work on the Louvre's glass pyramid. Since its establishment in 1997, this museum has been showcasing rotating exhibits of ancient art and antiques. The awe-inspiring architecture of the museum is an experience in itself, with a stainless steel tunnel leading to its entrance that reportedly reflects cherry blossoms during spring.
In a word, magnificent. I.M. Pei's magnum opus is both soul moving and sublime at the same time. The level of detailing is incredible, from the effortless integration of the stone handrails flushed within walls to the consistently aligned and uniform gap widths between stone floor, walls and steel structure throughout the entire museum is mind blowing. The level of effort in planning and construction is simply out of this world and we've not even started with the genius and majesty of the architecture housing the priceless artwork. The architecture really begins with the elegant approach to the actual physical structure of the museum, both very deliberate and visually arresting. Once inside, the awe and amazement culminates with the soaring steel structural lattice framework of the glazed roof and the carefully composed and framed views of the distant scenery of mountains and his own other nearby project, the 'Joy of Angels Bell Tower'. The rest of the museum is a joy to navigate and explore given I.M's mastery of incorporating clear and intuitive circulation throughout the building. This museum should be on everyone's bucket list especially aspiring as well as practising architects. A masterpiece well deserving of all the accolades bestowed on it over the years.

It's a good 50minutes bus ride to the museum and there's a vending machine by the bus stop number 3, which you can purchase the bus ticket and the museum admission ticket. Highly suggest to get both the bus and admission ticket at that vending machine to save he trouble. Please note vending machine only accept cash or IC card, ie no credit card. The architecture of the entire museum and the famous walkway towards the museum is quite breathtaking, and we spent half of our visiting time taking photos of the buildings. The actual collection wasn't as impressive as the architecture in comparison.

Visiting this remarkable mountain-side building was an absolute delight. The museum’s striking architecture, combined with its breathtaking natural surroundings, made the journey truly unforgettable. The bold, one-of-a-kind walkway leading to the main building was my favorite part, an experience that felt surreal. I loved every moment of it.

A temple disguised as a museum。 The journey through a tunnel from the outside world arriving at a natural temple built into the valley and mountain itself. Full of natural light & easy to navigate the place sets a slow thoughtful pace to life. IM PEI based the concept on the myth Peach Blossom Spring about an external paradise hidden but accessible.

Angel I — Google review
Stepping into the mountain’s embrace, I was drawn to the entrance of a tunnel lined with delicate cherry blossoms—a journey that echoed the spirit of ancient Chinese poetry, "The Peach Blossom Spring" by Tao Yuanming. As I followed this pathway, the interplay of light and shadow hinted at secrets yet to be revealed. The Miho Museum is built with 80% of its mass hidden underground to preserve the natural landscape. While this elegant design is prone to groundwater seepage, a thoughtful concrete moisture barrier keeps the building dry and secures its impressive collection of art. Inside, sleek aluminum beams and joints create a stunning triangular geometry and silhouette. The sloped glass ceiling design with carefully arranged louvers diffuses natural light onto the Magny Doré limestone and colored concrete interior, forming a soft, shifting glow. As I wandered deeper into the museum’s luminous corridors, I reached the lobby through a pair of sliding doors that joined together to form a round window, unveiling a dramatic scene. Through six expansive glass panes in the lobby, I beheld a picturesque view: in the foreground, a distinctive tree with gracefully curved branches frames the landscape, guiding my gaze toward a distant, elegant bell tower—the symbol of Shinji Shumeikai’s spiritual heritage. The glass panels, reminiscent of classical Chinese painting panels, capture ever-changing brushstrokes of light and shadow, unfolding the scene into a timeless narrative. My journey through the Miho Museum became a living poem—a seamless blend of ancient inspiration and contemporary engineering. From the tunnel that whispers of "The Peach Blossom Spring" to the underground sanctuary protected by a clever water-retaining wall, and from the modern, shimmering aluminum accents to the sacred view of the bell tower framed by vast, poetic glass panes, every element is a deliberate verse. Here, art, nature, and spirit converge, inviting visitors not just to observe, but to step into a reimagined world where tradition and innovation dance together in perfect harmony.

Haritsuna Shrine, located near Inuyama Castle, is believed to bring good fortune for safe delivery and prolonged life. It is said that Nobuyasu Oda dedicated guardian dogs to the shrine to pray for these blessings. The shrine is associated with praying for safe childbirth, conceiving a child, and traffic safety. Visitors can also purchase good-luck charms in pink or blue.
Shrine at the base of Inuyama Castle. Average, as far as Japanese shrines go, but worth a visit on your way to the castle. Different shrines are associated with different things in Japan (Studying, Business, Health, and such), this shrine is for having children and your safety while giving birth. So, if that is something you are thinking about it’s a good idea to buy one of the good-luck charms when you visit (They come in pink and blue.). Offers ok views of the surrounding city and mountains, but slightly obstructed by tree. Wait until you’re at the castle to get a good picture.

Haritsuna Shrine is listed in the Engi-Shiki, in the chapter that lists Shinto shrines at the time. It is located in the Inuyama area as one of the Five Owari Shrines and enshrines the Sochinju (local Shinto deity) of the Nobi region. The Inuyama Festival at Haritsuna Shrine has been designated a national intangible folk cultural property. The shrine was relocated to its present location in 1882. Every year in April the famous Inuyama Festival is held, and is especially beautiful when the cherry blossoms are fully open and there is a parade at night of floats moving around by the light of paper lanterns, making for a dazzling sight.

Garden
Nature & Parks
Nestled at the foot of Inuyama Castle, Urakuen is a captivating Japanese garden that invites visitors to immerse themselves in its tranquil beauty. This serene oasis features lush lawns, winding walking paths, and secluded spots perfect for reflection. The garden also boasts charming tea houses and small ponds that enhance its peaceful ambiance. Originally established in 1971 on the site of a former amusement park, Urakuen harmoniously blends nature with history.
One of the three best Japanese Gardens. A very nice place with a very helpful staff. It is incredibly beautiful and full of tea houses and all things pertaining to a traditional Japanese garden.
Paul T — Google review
Lots of people seem to come here with discount coupons for staying at the hotel across or with public transport discount tickets. For those of us less fortunate, the full entrance price is 1200 yen per person. And another surcharge if you'd want to enjoy tea inside their tea room. On top of that, the lady at the ticket counter spent 10 minutes talking to two Japanese ladies in front of us, pretty much giving them a private tour while we waited in line along with a bunch of others behind us. Frustrating, especially if you have to pay an exorbitant amount to visit. Anyway... The garden, the grounds, and the buildings are nicely maintained. They breathe peacefulness into your body and soul as you stroll around. Some buildings have their doors open, so you can take a glimpse inside. We spent a good half hour walking around, taking pictures and enjoying the tranquility.
Ilse E — Google review
Even though it is a 'national treasure' class of tourism spot, it doesn't have the wow factor for average oversea visitors. Seems like if you are into the tea culture and history, you will appreciate it. It is a little overrated for me.

Really Beautiful garden. Lovely tea room. Friendly and welcoming staff. Thank you!

This is a very beautiful and very spacious Japanese garden with national treasure tea house, because we stayed at Hotel Indigo and we got free entry into this place...we tried the traditional Japanese green tea and toured around the garden...there is some good history and is a beautiful place to visit...we enjoyed our visit here...

Magnificent traditional Japanese garden with a nice tea house where you can enjoy a tea ceremony in a nice atmosphere.
Agathe Z — Google review
A very beautiful, quiet garden. There are maps and materials in English as well as in Japanese. There's an option to add tea onto your ticket, so you can get some good Japanese tea as a part of the walk.
Caleb S — Google review
Very quiet garden, which is awesome! Not too far off from the Main Street of the touristy area. It is quite pricey & 1200/adult. Also, matcha and a dessert inside one of the traditional houses is an extra 600. People there are friendly and are interested in telling you more about the place but don’t expect them to speak any English.

Tsugao Kannon Bodhisattva - Jakkoin Temple is a picturesque hiking trail that takes you to Mount Tsugao and back through the Onobora area. The route features a mix of stairs and natural paths, offering breathtaking views of the Kiso River, Inuyama area, and even Nagoya city from the mountain. The temple is particularly popular in autumn when visitors can enjoy vibrant foliage and stunning vistas of Inuyama castle and the monkey park.
Excellent autumn temple to go to. Be prepare to climb , they do have a small little cable car(meant previously for apples). But you will definitely miss the sights. It also has a nice view of the nearby areas with loads of mountain/forest in different colours (due to fall) Most visitor are japanese with few foreigners so it is really a gem! It does offer a shuttle bus during fall season from inuyamayuen for 100 yen per ride!

This is an exceptionally beautiful shrine (Kannon) in the hills surrounding Inuyama. It is located near Momotaro Shrine. It has some very beautiful buildings and the surrounding nature is fantastic especially at this time of year (autumn). There is an amazing view from several places at the top. There are a lot of steps, but it’s definitely worth the climb

Bistro Le Petít Verdot is a popular dining spot with a cozy atmosphere and delicious food. Visitors have praised the attentive staff and the carefully prepared dishes, including appetizers, soups, pasta, salads, fish, and desserts. The restaurant offers a three-course menu and requires reservations in advance due to its popularity. While parking can be limited, the warm hospitality and overall dining experience make it worth a visit.
Warm hospitality and delicious food. We loved our visit to Petit Verdot and look forward to visiting again with clients on future visits to Inuyama.

We couldn't even get a reservation : the hotel staff at hotel Indigo warned us that they refuse foreigners. Please read the other reviews about rejecting foreigners: this ultra racist attitude is totally shocking. It's a French restaurant: I am French and I can order in Japanese too. I have travelled all over the world and have NEVER been rejected outright.
Sandra A — Google review
This restaurant will not serve you if you do not “speak Japanese.” However, at least one waiter speaks perfect English. This is clearly an attempt to hide the fact they discriminate against foreigners
Stuart M — Google review
This is NOT for those who cannot speak Japanese! They refused to accept me as I cannot speak Japanese. Even though I said I can use google translate they still refused me!
Hunter Y — Google review
Go for the food not the service. Also, the name is French but consider it an Italian bistro as pastas are the main menu items
Michael T — Google review
Beware. There’s a sign at the door that says foreigners have to be accompanied by Japanese speaking guests otherwise will be turned away. That was what happened to us despite armed with google translate. We politely stated our case and showed our sincerity in not causing any inconvenience for our poor knowledge of Japanese language. But no, we were turned away. I wonder what bad experiences the restaurant has had before this to be so adamant at not receiving foreign speaking guests. But thankfully, because of being turned away, we found Inuyama Daruma which welcomed us despite speaking very little English themselves. We ended up having the best time in the town and made a new friend with the chef owner who recommended us to various local eateries. We even took a picture together and he printed it out and gave us for keepsake!!! What contrast!

Soba noodle shop
Matsui is a renowned soba restaurant with a branch in Inuyama, near the famous Inuyama Castle. The restaurant takes pride in serving freshly ground, beaten, and boiled soba noodles all year round. They prioritize hand-making their noodles to ensure the original taste of the rich nature of the Hidaso River. Visitors often find a line outside but are rewarded with good service and fresh, delicious soba upon entering.
Probably the best zaru soba we have had in a while! The noodles had a good firm bite and paired very nicely with the dipping sauce. We ordered the set with fresh wasabi and were amazed that it actually came with a stalk of wasabi for you to grind. It really added to the flavour of the dipping sauce and the noodles. The tempura were also very nicely matched and went very well with the soba. We also tried the sobagaki soup, which was very interesting and absolutely delicious!
Jayke K — Google review
Great light soba, tasty tempura and interesting buckwheat tea.

A fantastic traditional restaurant of Sober located nearby the Inoyamma castle. The sober noodle is so original and delicious. The chopstick is so traditional that we want to take it as sovenior. The service is so good that it's like being served as family. It's a wonderful dining experience and the relaxing music is amazing.
Gulliver L — Google review
After visiting the Inuyama Castle we saw a quite big line in front of this restaurant. So immediately we saw the reviews in google to figure out what was all about. Waited in the line for almost 30 mins… was it worth it? Well yes if you don’t have anything else to do and/ or if you are not hungry. The place is nice clean and the service is good, not to mention fast. The soba is good and fresh. The price and volume are fair. I recommend you to ask for some tempura, is good.
Sil M — Google review
This restaurant takes soba dining to an entirely new level of authenticity. Serving traditional soba in the classic Japanese way, they pay meticulous attention to detail in every aspect. The soba is perfectly cooked, with a delightful balance of chewiness and flavor that only true soba masters can achieve. What sets this place apart is the thoughtful service of soba-yu (soba cooking water) at the end of your meal, allowing you to mix it with your dipping sauce for a warm, comforting finish—an essential part of the authentic soba experience. Their approach to wasabi is equally impressive. If the initial serving isn’t enough, they provide freshly grated wasabi using a traditional Japanese oroshigane grater, giving you a bold and refreshing kick with every bite. This level of care and dedication to tradition makes this restaurant one of the best soba spots in Japan.

Izakaya restaurant
Nekotei is an izakaya restaurant that offers the unique feature of printing personal photos and illustrations on beer through their app, making it a perfect choice for surprising and celebratory occasions. The small-sized fried chicken served here is incredibly tasty. Additionally, Nekotei boasts a wide selection of alcoholic beverages to cater to diverse preferences. It's worth mentioning that they have their own keg, adding to the overall appeal of the place.
Awesome! We were there on a holiday road trip with the family. Great food and draft beer. The all you can drink party set chosen at the table next to us also seemed great. They even had their own keg.

Had dinner here last night. The 2500 yen tasting menù was very basic, including 2 salads and 3 fried dishes. The owner was not welcoming at all, treating us poorly and with disrespect. THERE IS A HIDDEN 900 YEN "TABLE CHARGE" PER PERSON! You also have to buy a drink, you can't only have water. I have been in Japan for a month and have never seen this before. Bad experience overall, overpriced. Would not return.

Total scam. Don't go. You have to pay the service and you cannot drink free water (something really unusual in Japan). The service is around 5 euro. The manager is really unpolite and the food is quite forgettable. You can find a lot better in Japan and with a less price.

(Translated by Google) I used it when I stayed in Inuyama on a trip from Chiba. There are a lot of chain stores around Inuyama Station, but since I was on a trip, I avoided them and was looking for something unique, when a horse meat store caught my eye and I thought it looked interesting so I decided to enter. Although the prices are a bit high, all of the dishes, including the restaurant's signature horse meat, were very delicious, and the manager was very friendly, so we had a great time. According to the manager, whether you eat horse sashimi or not will make a big difference in your level of satisfaction, so we recommend ordering horse sashimi when you visit! By the way, although it is a horse meat restaurant, they also have a wide variety of alcoholic beverages and other dishes, so even those who don't like horse meat can enjoy it. If you want your kids to enjoy amusement park, this is the place to go. There are so many attractions to choose from. My family of 5 bought an all day pass (all you can ride), it is cheaper as compared to buying each ticket for ride. My children enjoyed the rides. One of them was able to ride fire bird more than 10 times. There is almost no wait times for the rides. There are also so many restaurants/food stalls to choose from. You can also bring your own food and eat in any vacant table. My children want to go back again.

Ok while it is a family oriented park and the kids enjoy it. I noticed a couple things 1st my daughter was able to ride many more attractions at Disney and Legoland than here, they have the ride height higher. 2nd the older staff are very racist and anti non Japanese. My daughter who is 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 white felt it and so did I. Never felt this anywhere else in Japan and one been here more than 10 years. On the plus you can bring your own food and drinks if you choose. Very good family place.

The Japan Monkey Centre (JMC) in Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture, is a renowned zoological institution dedicated to the study and conservation of nonhuman primates. Boasting the world's largest collection of primate species—over 60 species and 900 individuals—the JMC offers visitors an opportunity to observe a diverse array of monkeys, apes, and lemurs from Asia, Africa, and South America. One of the highlights is the "Monkey Valley," where Japanese macaques can be seen washing sweet potatoes in a stream, a behavior first observed in the wild and now considered a cultural trait.

(Translated by Google) I've been to many izakaya over the past 20 years, but this one is the best. It was the worst restaurant. I made a reservation and went with my family. At first, I ordered various things and waited for over an hour, and the only dish that came out was "6 pieces of yakitori." Even though I waited for over 30 minutes, the clerk didn't even respond. There was not even a single "Sorry to have kept you waiting." After 30 minutes, the food still wasn't delivered, so I decided to go home. When I looked at the bill, I saw that I had been charged for a dish that had not arrived, so I said, "We don't have this, right?" I was really offended by the fact that the food was being brought to my party reservation one after another. Even though my children were looking forward to it, they were disappointed. To begin with, the menu was very small, and the yakitori that came out was worse than the photo, so I don't have anything to praise about the food. When I looked at recent reviews, I saw a lot of people in similar situations, and I was convinced. You should definitely go to another izakaya.

Teppanyaki restaurant
This is the initial eatery visited following a search for highly-rated establishments on Google Maps along R41. Inuyama Daruma, a teppanyaki restaurant, offers a unique lunch menu. One standout dish is the natural yellowtail sashimi which is seasoned with kombu seaweed and boasts a sticky and flavorful taste. The appetizers require considerable time and effort to prepare but offer an array of delectable flavors to be savored gradually.
We paid a short visit to Inuyama for a night before heading back to Nagoya and found this lovely spot near our hotel. Despite it was introduced as a Teppanyaki restaurant but to us it is more like an Izakaya as there are a wide variety of food selections with great vibe. All the foods recommended by the chef and the second chef are yum. Despite the language barrier we still manage to communicate pretty smooth by the help of some translation apps. Truly felt the warm hospitality by all in the restaurant. We had a great evening there in Daruma and we sincerely recommend it to all who visit Inuyama.

This restaurant is an absolute gem! The food is not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The Wagyu beef is especially outstanding—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The dishes are crafted with creativity, making each plate a visual and culinary delight. The service is incredibly friendly and attentive. The staff carefully used Google Translate to introduce each dish to us. Plus, 店長 Niwa San took a photo with us, and even gave us a light to walk safely to the parking area in the dark—a thoughtful touch that shows their dedication to hospitality. The food is amazingly well cooked and the staff are friendly and very helpful! They have English and Chinese menu which is easier to understand and we ordered every food and each of them are 5 stars rating!

Everything was perfect! The service was exceptionally friendly, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Two of us are vegetarians, we were offered a variety of options which all were amazing. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Wow this place is super beautiful and is a gem. I had sooo much food here, my stomach was about to explode. I loved everything I ate but my faves were the tuna stuffed mushroom and the amazing tai rice in a clay pot. The food comes out very quickly because there are so many workers. The owner himself puts a lot of pride in the food and you can tell. He also told me his twin brother is the one who designed the interior, which was simple but modern. I wish I lived near here but I’ll definitely be back the next time I go to Nagoya. They also have an English menu, thought not fully up to date.

Chanced upon this unassuming restaurant from a Google review and was pleasantly surprised by how good food was and was touched by how friendly staff were. Staff took effort to translate Japanese to English to understand our order and also made great recommendations. They took photos for us and laminated the pictures for us as souvenirs. Very highly recommended. Food was special and delicious!

We asked our hotel for a recommendation on a good Izakaya and they made reservations for us here. We are so happy we got to try this place. The owner was so helpful in asking what we wanted to eat and helped us order. He even made a yaki onigiri for my mom because that’s what she wanted even though it wasn’t on the menu. All the staff are friendly and I love the open kitchen atmosphere. The sashimi was fresh and all the dishes were tasty! Oishi desu ne! We would love to return here again in the future and make your way to Inuyama too and try this place!
