Museums
The Otsuka Museum of Art, located in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, was established by the Otsuka Group to celebrate its 75th anniversary. The museum houses over 1,000 full-size reproductions of famous Western artworks such as the 'Mona Lisa' and 'The Last Supper' by artists like Picasso, Renoir, and da Vinci.
Really enjoyed the museum. We arrived right around lunch time and decided to eat at the restaurant before walking around the museum. Lunch was very tasty and came out quite quickly. The menu is limited though, so if you have dietary preferences, you may want to eat elsewhere first. Lots to see in the museum. We spent about 3 hours looking around, if you’re really into art and analyzing paintings, you’ll need more time to really look at everything.

Visiting the **Otsuka Museum of Art** was such a cool experience! It's not your usual museum—everything is **ceramic reproductions** of famous Western masterpieces, but they're all **life-sized**, so it feels like you're touring the world's best galleries in one place. The **Sistine Chapel replica** was mind-blowing—you can even **take photos** (which you usually can't in real museums!). My favorite was Van Gogh’s *Sunflowers*—so vibrant! The museum is huge (4km of galleries!), so wear comfy shoes. A bit pricey (¥3,300 for adults), but totally worth it for art lovers!
TimBerg — Google review
It has 5 floors of remade art. Its not the real thing. But still fun to observe and see with your own eyes. I appreciate they have arrows on the ground to point which direction you should go. They have many cafes and places to sit and enjoy the view. I appreciate how many chairs were available to sit and relax in. I was there for 5 hours. I would have loved to stay longer. But with time constraints we had to head out. I do appreciate the lighting and the recreation. It makes you want to see the work in person. I hope I can do so one day. I would plan this as a whole day event. But if you are with kids that might not be possible. The Naruto whirlpool tours boat are near by if you want to find something different. Enjoy and take your time.

The Otsuka Museum of Art is a huge Museum that cannot be covered in one day and needs few days to see everything. The collection of reproductions from all periods, starting from ancient history through midevil, Renessainc, Baroque, Impressionist period, expressionist, until modern art is amazing. Highly recommended to any art lover!
Ehud B — Google review
Excellent museum with a lot of interesting painting and presentation. 3300 yen of entrance fees was worth. There were a lot of exhibits and easily 4 hours could be spent here. There is a museum parking located (600m awat) near the naruto sightseeing boat parking. The museum is courteous enough to provide free shuttle vice versa.
Hock T — Google review
This is my favorite museum in Japan. Everything is a reproduction made by transferring ceramic two boards. You can take pictures, you can shoot video, you could even touch them.
L.E. O — Google review
This is a marvellous museum. If you visit Japan, do make an effort to visit this highly unique museum too. It is like this: whilst in Japan, you can tour the most historic and famous tourist destinations of Greece, Italy, Spain and others, all at once. How? They have recreated these places with astonishing technology. The technique of applying every colour to tiles – meaning any colour or image can be depicted on tiles. For instance, the most famous Impressionist paintings appear utterly lifelike, yet they are actually projections onto tiles. Visitors are even encouraged to touch them, revealing they are neither originals nor actual paintings. It is truly astonishing what modern technology can achieve. I repeat, this museum is an absolute must-visit. You will not be disappointed. After all, you can experience famous sights from around the world all in one place.
Max H — Google review
It is a MASSIVE museum with thousands of famous paintings in the world. It would take half a day to explore the entire area. These paintings are not the original ones but very close replicas. They offer some museum tours and it is very helpful for understanding the background of the works. I am not sure if they offer tours in English or other languages, but I think at least they provide an audio tool that explains them. The museum doesn’t just have a great replicas that made from pottery. It also replicates surrounding areas like caves and architecture transporting visitors to different places. Additionally, there is a lovely cafe where you can enjoy some food and drinks related to the arts and the area.

Naruto Park is located in Minami-Awaji and offers a unique blend of attractions, including casual restaurants, a viewing deck with stunning views of the Naruto whirlpools in the Naruto Strait, and traditional cultural experiences such as Awaji puppet theater. The Otsuka Museum of Art within the park showcases life-size reproductions of renowned Western art pieces from various eras.
Best place to watch whirlpool From all directions. Should try watch by boat, for closest view n great sensation. You must spend more money to buy entrance ticket than just looking from observation deck. Once for a lifetime is enough for me, this is one of main attraction here. Enjoy your time as well.

A must if you like spectacular views of great bridges or just enjoy panoramic scenic views. Take the escalator, makes things much easier

Incredible movement of water during tidal movements over a narrow straight. At times the water on one side of the bridge is much higher than the other creating a waterfall.

I was here on golden week and very lucky with the weather. I took the bus from tokushima station and is about one hour 10 minutes as the last stop. Chanen Observatory is very beautiful and from there I can see the sizes of whirlpool. I recommend not taking the boat unless the whirlpool is at its highest. Truly enjoyed the Uzu-no Michi walkway. It took me 4 hours in total to walk around . The must see spot when visit Tokushima .
Annie C — Google review
Get the combo ticket for the observatory and the underneath the bridge walk to save some money. Great views!

The world famous Naruto Swirl. Passengers can take walk beneath Naruto bridge (with fee, about 500 Yen/adult). The walk way is about 500 meters long and 5 rest areas are located in the middle (there is rest room in the end side as well). It’s wonderful to feel the minor vibrations when vehicles drive overhead roads. Under your feet, you can see swirls if arriving at right tide time. The wind is a bit strong. A spectacular spot deserving your visit!
Nick L — Google review
Sea swirl is interesting and the view from the park is great. Nice place to stop by if you are passing by when driving or going to the art museum, but not sure if it is worth visiting only for the view as it is quite away from downtown. Also you have to check the right timing to see the sea swirl (check this out from the website)

This is the parking lot (500 yen a time) nearby the whirlpool observatory. Also have souvenirs shop. I saw Naruto bridge and some cherry blossoms on the way to the observatory.

Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Walkway, also known as Whirlpool Road, is a unique glass-floored walkway located under the Damingmen Bridge in Mingmen Strait, Japan. This nearly 500-meter long walkway offers stunning views of the Naruto Whirlpools in the Naruto Straits.
It's an underway passage/observatory under the bridge so it's possible to look and admire the whirlpools without taking a boat into the see. Nice experience.
Alberto T — Google review
I visited on 21 July and checked the tide schedule on the website in advance, picking the time for the strongest whirlpool that day. The walk to the viewing area was much longer than expected, and the worst part was that we could not even go further in to see the main whirlpool area where the sightseeing ships pass. Part of the bridge was under renovation and scaffolded, and the door to continue further was shut. I am not sure if it is always like this or if we were just unlucky that the bridge was closed halfway. To make things worse, there was an unpleasant toilet-like smell along the way to the viewing point. Overall, it was not worth the admission fee even though it’s inexpensive.
Leh P — Google review
Please note the Google hours mentioned are for summer and for winter they are earlier. Last entry is 4:30 m and it closes at five. It is at least a five maybe 10 minute walk from the top car park to where you buy tickets to go in. Parking cost ¥500 (we actually stayed in our campervan overnight and as long as you leave by 8:15 you won't be charged for the next day. We stayed here overnight because we had dogs and there's a little walk you can do to an observatory and lookout point where you can look down towards the whirlpools so if you arrive out of hours, I suggest you try this. The toilets were open all night while we were there. Great view early morning when the car park is empty before it starts to get busy.
Maria N — Google review
When you buy the tickets (¥510pp), you also receive a beautiful post card! Eventhough it is late May, the walkway was not only windy but cold too! Do bring a thin coat at least. Wow. The views of the swells creating the whirlpools are spectacular indeed. A pity the bridge structure may obstruct views. Improvise to look for the best angles! Best visited in the morning or late afternoon depending on the tide. Check online for the best date/time to coincide with your trip here.
Mel M — Google review
there is a set timing daily to see the whirlpool (during high tide), you may have to wait a few hours. they will display high tide time at the entrance. unfortunately i went at the wrong time free coin return locker. very nice staff that tries to educate me on the whirlpool despite language barrier! i also got some postcard gifts and craft from 2 of the older staff maybe i’ll return again if im near tokushima again..
H — Google review
Great view of the tide, staffs speak a bit of English and friendly. Currently there are renovation works going on, so some of the views are obstructed, otherwise, it could have been better.

Do t waste your time. They charge for a natural sight. It says a lot per se. And a hearty parking fee to add insult to injury! Just go around the corner and you can see this natural beauty without being robed

The Naruto Whirlpools, located near the city of Tokushima in Shikoku, are a natural wonder that can be observed from boats or nearby viewpoints. These large tidal whirlpools occur below the Onaruto Bridge and are most prominent in the morning and afternoon when there is a significant volume of water moving through the strait connecting the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean. They can reach up to 20 meters across during spring and summer.
The Naruto Whirlpools only appear during high or low tide, but when they are visible, it's an absolutely phenomenal sight. You can admire the whirlpools from the O-Naruto Bridge, which provides a fantastic vantage point. For an even closer view, there are many ferries or boats offering tours. Just be sure to check the tide times to catch the whirlpools at their best. A must-visit!
De-Jie T — Google review
What a beautiful place! Must check the tides and boat schedules to know the best times to experience the whirlpools. Highly recommend a boat trip and then a trip up to the visitors center and you can walk under the bridge on an enclosed catwalk. There are lots of informational pictures and narratives in Japanese and English. You can also view the whirlpools from the glass windows in the floor of the bridge. Then go up to the viewpoint on the cliff where the feudal lords used to enjoy the whirlpools during Edo period. For the boat trip we didn’t have reservations in advance and were able to purchase tickets about 30 minutes before departure from the ticket office on the larger boat. The smaller boat with glass bottom requires advance ticket reservations. Definitely going back with advance reservations for a glass bottom boat ride.
CJ S — Google review
Visited the Naruto Whirlpools and enjoyed the views from the hilltop observation area. The whirlpools were fascinating to watch as the tides created those powerful swirling currents below. It’s a great spot for photos and to appreciate nature’s force from a safe distance. The viewing area is well maintained with clear signage and facilities. Even without taking a boat tour, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby.
Eric — Google review
The Naruto Whirlpools only appear during high or low tide. Be sure to check the tide times to catch the whirlpools at their best. We paid the ticket price to walk under the bridge to catch the whirlpools from above. Sadly we missed the peak of the ebb tide. We did see the whirlpools from the bridge surface a few days before and found them to be a spectacular sight. Take the time to walk the observation areas on and off the Onaruto Bridge to get a true sense of just how huge the tidal surge can be. At the southern observatory there are cafes and snack stands to enjoy as well.
Rob L — Google review
One of the amazing experiences I’ve ever had. They offer like a Uzushio forecast that expects how possible it is to see whirlpool each hour. When I visited it showed the level would be not so high, but it was pretty sunny so I took the next boat. There are 2 types of boats you could take, one with an underwater view and the other that is bigger and not necessary to book in advance. I took the one with an underwater view and was amazing!! The whirlpool was not big just as the forecast said but I was so excited to see small whirlpools. The staff told me that the diameter of it would be about 20 meters if it’s the perfect time. Just seeing a big bridge was nice. I highly recommend this activity.

A must see. located in the Naruto Strait near Awaji Island in Japan, which have speeds of 26 km/h (16 mph). A whirlpool is a body of rotating water produced by opposing currents or a current running into an obstacle.

Café de Giverny, located in a tourist spot, offers ample seating and short wait times for orders between 11:30 and 14:00 on Mondays. The restaurant's ambiance is a pleasant blend of a food court and a traditional eatery. With comfortable terrace seats, it provides an ideal place to unwind after exploring B2 floor. Visitors can enjoy delicious seafood bowls and roast beef sets while taking advantage of regional coupons to ease the cash burden.
Very good cafe in the museum. They have only 3 main dishes but it's more than enough. Their seafood rice was fresh and delicious. Their sweets were awesome. Don't miss it when you visit a museum.

Another café inside the Otsuka Art Museum. The scent of curry pushed me to try the Venus curry (a Japanese word play), but I personally believe the seafood bowl is the wiser choice, using fresh fish from the area. Crowd Size: Very High Payment Method: Credit Card

Really quite nice place for a quick bite when touring the museum, had the kaisen don which was pretty fresh and served with pickles and a nice seaweed soup and the curry katsu which was chunky and nicely paired with pickled onion and was good and the dessert was great as well the strawberry cake nicely moist and well done. Would recommend if your pretty hungry.

A slice of chocolate cake crowned with whipped cream and a ruby-red strawberry, alongside a warm cup of coffee—pure bliss. The rich chocolate chunks added a luxurious touch. Imagine savoring it while admiring the serene beauty of water lilies, as if stepping into a Monet canvas!

After walking through the miles of museum exhibits, this cafe provides a welcome resting spot. It offers both meals and desserts. We tried the meals. Some of our party had the steak and others had the curry. The flavors were mild, so if you like mild flavors, it might suit you. The good point was that the portions were huge. You won’t leave this cafe hungry if you try one of the meals.

(Translated by Google) Cafe de Giverny is located inside the Otsuka Museum of Art. It seats over 200 people and features an open terrace overlooking a pond recreating Monet's "Water Lilies." ◆Order Menu ・Green Harmony ・Seared Sea Bream Rice Bowl ・Venus Curry Every meal was terrible. Nothing was tasty. The curry rice was soggy and clumpy, and the sea bream had no soy sauce or flavor, not even a hint of sesame sauce. If I had to eat here, I'd probably go for the chicken cutlet curry... Green Harmony is still better. All of these dishes are priced like a typical tourist spot, and it's hard to believe they cost 1,500 yen... The quality is below that of a food court or diner. It's a place for families with children or those not interested in food to get by. Location may be everything. SHIOKAZE is a noteworthy dining establishment located in the Onaruto bridge sightseeing area, offering patrons stunning views of the bridge and beautiful coastline. While it may not be considered a fancy restaurant that requires going out of one's way to visit, SHIOKAZE stands out as one of the best options in the area.
Had a fantastic experience at SHIOKAZE 郷土料理 潮風, located near the Naruto Whirlpool and Onaruto Bridge. It's just a short walk from the public car park, making it easy to find. Ordering and payment are done at the entrance counter first, which streamlines the process. The staff were friendly and spoke good English, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I think I came here with too much of a high expectation as this place was highly recommended for its Tai fish rice bowl in a travelling guide book. The fish meat was tough and hard to chew, the saving grace was the sauce and the seaweed soup, they were delicious. I suspect the issue could be the inadequate knife skill of the sushi chef slicing the fish into the pieces the wrong way, but that is just my non-professional opinion, what do I know about being a chef. Pity....

Came here for lunch with my wife. The food and experience was amazing, as well as the view!

Fancy gourmet restaurant with a beautiful view! They offer student course meals based on price, but not individual menu items, although they had no problems substiting dishes for vegetarian options or no fish versions!

(Translated by Google) I went here for lunch when I went to the Otsuka Museum of Art. The view was amazing, and I thought it was worth it just for that. The staff were polite, warm, and pleasant. The food was beautifully presented, but the garnish for the main meat dish was oily, which was disappointing.

(Translated by Google) I had lunch there for my birthday. When I made the reservation, they asked me in advance what I couldn't eat and prepared the food accordingly. They explained the details of each dish in an easy-to-understand manner. Everything was delicious, from the appetizers to the desserts. (Translated by Google) We visited without a reservation as a walk-in. The weather was nice, so we requested the terrace. The moment we stepped outside, we were overwhelmed by the view. Each dish was carefully prepared and delicious. I especially enjoyed the terrine, made with local fish. The attentive and professional service was also impressive. It was a perfect restaurant. I highly recommend it.
