Road Station Urabandai is a delightful roadside stop nestled in the stunning Bandai-Asahi National Park, perfect for travelers seeking a break amidst nature. This charming location features eateries serving delicious meals made from local ingredients, a farmers' market brimming with fresh produce at great prices, and souvenir shops to take home a piece of your adventure.
We slept here overnight in our campervan in mid April. We didn't realise there would be so much snow so this place was very helpful. It was quiet to sleep at overnight and the toilets were very clean. There is an ice cream stand and a farmers market. We had wasabi ice cream for breakfast in the snow.

Nice place to have a rest stop, find a snack and take a break from driving. Lots of parking! It is as harvest time so fresh fruits and vegetables were for sale.

A good place to have a rest after visiting mountains around the lake area in a clody raining day.

Went out of our way to come to this road station to get back near some snow for the kids. There was plenty of snow and it was a nice quiet place with clean facilities. We came here in early December and the scenery was amazing. Everything was dusted white with snow! A nice Michi no eki. Probs perfect of you were in a camper like us and venturing to a ski slope nearby. There was also an onsen 5 minutes down the road to get cleaned up and warm.

Ski & Snowboard Areas
Hoshino Resorts Nekoma Mountain North Area is a medium-sized ski resort located in the Urabandai area, offering excellent snow quality on its north slope. The ski area features mostly intermediate and advanced courses, with one or two beginner-level options available. Visitors can enjoy picturesque views of frost-covered trees from the top of the lift, and the backside of Mt Bandai boasts impressive snow quality with fewer crowds compared to other resorts in the area.
On the backside of Mt Bandai and the snow quality is very nice. Also lot fewer people compared the front side Alts Bandai resort. They are connected by a 15 minute hike so you can try both out. Snow Scoots and Snow Moto’s are welcome here on all the lifts and runs!
J K — Google review
Not a small ski resort, beginner slopes can get pretty flat in some sections, good intermediate slopes. Food courts offer both Japanese and western food. Kids under 12 get free ski rentals. The Rider’s cafe up the slope has good burgers. Overall had a good skiing experience
Anny — Google review
The resort has a variety of tracks, tried all of them, but the weather was so rainy couldn't get best experience. Very affordable and food there was very good.
MOSTAFA O — Google review
I like Nekoma and Alts resorts! I buy a season pass every year and enjoy skiing on both resorts. Last year there was even a walking path from one resort to the other, which super cool!
Veronica M — Google review
Lifts have no safety bar. Line is too long. We had to wait for about 20 minutes for the lift. Snow is great but course for novices is too short, some places on some courses are too flat.
Khoai V — Google review
Really good snow this year. Unfortunately the lift of green trail was not open. My kids had to use the blue trail, which was too dangerous for them. Nice location and easy to reach. I'll recommend this place for skiing lover.
Jian S — Google review
for experienced skiers. many courses are of black difficulty and few are for beginners, if you are confident of your skill and enjoy steep descents with lots of moguls you might enjoy this. However if you consider yourself a intermediate / beginner skier, I wouldn't really recommend coming here. (search for gran deco for a good, close, alternative) you might see that there are some red courses, but they are probably closer to black than they are to green. Snow quality is good, and if you come soon after it snows you will probably get good powder.
Alex — Google review
This is my tenth time here over 4 seasons. Today was an absolute mess. They say all lifts open but the triple is down for the season. Expect long waits because of this. They have some rails out but don't allow hiking the rails. This would have alleviated some of the lines for the park lift if they did this. Ill managed today and in the Aizu region carry on and try somewhere else. If you're a foreigner don't forget you get a discount on lift passes for all resorts in this area. First time ever disappointed with this resort. Sort it out management.

Bodies of Water
Goshikinuma Ponds is a charming destination that showcases a sequence of lakes. These bodies of water were formed by volcanoes and are widely known for their varying hues. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll, particularly on a sunny weekday as it offers hassle-free access from the parking lot situated at both ends. For added convenience, visitors can take the bus back to the trailhead after hiking one way for 250.
A beautiful free walking experience through the ponds of many colours. Took 1 hour one way, and you can catch a bus back to the visitor centre either side.

Easy and pleasant walk! Came here with my parents and the trail was very manageable. The path around the pond takes about an hour at a relaxed pace, with beautiful views and fresh air. Great spot for families and older visitors.

Goshikinuma means “Five-Colored Marshes / Ponds.” It’s a group of lakes and ponds in the Urabandai / Mt. Bandai area, created after the eruption of Mt. Bandai in 1888

We wanted to go around these famous ponds, but it was raining and the ground was muddy. We only went to the one closest to the carpark, Yanaginuma Pond. It was still beautiful, but felt this was not fully experience here.

Decent place with kind hearted staffs. It was winter we visited . Wanted to challenge the weather to see 5 color lakes along with our 4 and 9 years daughters. The staff suggested not to attempt , if only we follow the foot steps . But we were lost in the middle of no where . One of the staff suggested to come in spring time for the hike.

Here is the starting point of the trekking trail. (You can start from the other side too) Friendly staffs (speaking Japanese). They provide sufficient information and able to suggest you the best route apart from the five Color lakes.
Stephen C — Google review
Well maintained - free parking and nice trails. You can walk to the blue color bishamon pond from there (though there is closer parking as well, it's just 5min walk) Considering there might be bears around, we were feeling more confident entering the trail from the visiting center side as there were more people around. Dogs allowed on the trail (though the sign on the visiting center says they don't recommend taking pets on trails considering the bears might feel intimidated.) You can also rent rain boots as well as a bell for the bears in the visiting center.

Surrealist art, including a selection of works by Salvador Dalí, in light-filled, scenic surrounds.
Visited here some years ago, when we are still under Covid pandemic. Fantastic location, quiet and not busy like some museums in Tokyo. Exhibition was superb and ticket price was more than reasonable, never thought i could see this much collection of Dali here in Fukushima region. i would love to come back agsin.
Pk B — Google review
I found the building to be really beautiful and it felt like we were not in Japan anymore. It must have been even better looking on a sunny day with a blue sky. It felt like Europe. I was surprised at how few tourists come up here. Maybe because of the lack of access so you probably need a rental car to come. It was really interesting to learn about Salvador Dali. You could get a really good sense of his personality and how he kind of pretended to be crazy but actually wasn't. More than his paintings I really enjoyed immersing myself in his sculpture art.
B B — Google review
Good selection of Dali’s work and themed exhibits. But...not a word of English or any other foreign language, making it completely inaccessible for visitors. In this day and age, would it really take so much to run the little test they have next to some photos through google translate? So only worth visiting if you are skilled in Japanese or with someone who doesn’t mind translating. Building and location is stunning though.
Phil S — Google review
An amazing find in a most unusual location. Housing primarily a collection of Salvador Dali sculptures and watercolors but also some Picasso and Renoir and Pissaro
Chris I — Google review
The museum is amazingly beautiful and is easy to access to. The building is large unfortunately only the first floor is opened for exhibition. Still there are plenty paintings and sculptures by Dali which are very worthy to see. Make sure to check and confirm the exact date of the open season though. I have planned my trip since Nov 2018. At that time when I checked its website it stated it’s closed from Dec to Apr, and it wasn’t until the late Feb 2019 the website confirmed that it would be reopened from Apr 20 to Nov 24 in 2019.
Tony W — Google review
Nice view!! A place must visit. Unfortunately inside the museum, we are not allowed to take📷.
Melissa O — Google review
Honestly I can’t give the review for the inside as when I arrive it was near 5PM, which is the closing time. Fyi, even they close at 5PM, the museum shop close at 4.30 along with the last entrances. They allow you to use the toilet inside the museum tho! If you are a huge art fan don’t miss it because this is the 3rd biggest Savador Dali museum in the world and they are the one that showcases Salavdor Dali’s biggest artwork, 4x3m. The architect of this place is Kimio Shimizu, Fukushima local architect!

Mountains
Mount Bandai, a renowned volcanic mountain in Japan, offers multiple climbing routes and is home to several ski resorts. Situated in the eastern portion of the Bandai-Asahi National Park, this 1,819-meter-tall peak boasts picturesque lakes and trails in the Urabandai area. The trail from Lake Hibara to Bishamon-numa is particularly popular among walkers and hikers for its scenic beauty.
I had a chance to hike Bandai san on 20/08/2020. I would like to share my experience here hoping to help those who like to hike. There are a couple of trials. I used the one starts at Happodai 八方台 This is the easiest and shortest trial. I went there by car. I saw a taxi ad posted there. I will you can get there by taxi as well. There is a free parking area, toilets and a resting area while waiting for a taxi at the trailhead. No drinkable water. I started at 8:15 and got the peak at 10:10 The path is not much challenging. I would say 2 out of 5. There are some rocky areas but not to steep. There are many view points. The weather was clear and I was blessed with spectacular scenery. There us a small restaurant, resting area near to summit. There is delicious natural fresh water here. You can fill out your bottle. After this point it says 500 m left. It is a bit more challenging yet amazing view. There is an entrance just next to the water fountain. Once you reach the peak you will be blessed with 360 degree view. We could see far places and big mountains (Adatara, Issaikyo, iide etc). There are many lakes around and it was looking awesome from the top. We didn’t want to leave. After a long break here we returned back from the same path. There is a flower garden sign on the way. We just went to check. There was not much flower. I believe it would be great in May. We came back to the parking area at 12:10. So about 4 hours hike including resting time. It was a great one and would be happy to challenge myself with the other trials next time. Like this comment if you think it will be helpful for the others.

磐梯山 • Mt. Bandai 1,816 m • 5,958 ft We began our hike at the Inawashiro trailhead. At least when we went, there were hardly any people! The Inawashiro entrance seems to be really popular in the winter, since it’s where the ski slopes are as well. If you want, you can hike up the path along the ski slopes to get to the quarter mark, but I recommend taking the ski lift. The cost is ¥1600, but it’s worth it. You don’t want to tire yourself out hiking the steep ski slopes before the hike even begins. At the end of the second ski lift is when the hike up the mountain really begins. The first part is relatively steep, but the middle of the hike, when you go around the rim of the collapsed volcano, is very enjoyable and easy. However, the last 30 - 45 minutes of the hike are pretty difficult, but not impossible! The summit is quite large, and there’s room for a lot of people, though when we went, clouds were blocking the view. Oh well! There’s always next time! Be VERY careful on the way down! At least for the Inawashiro trail, there’s so many loose rocks and slippery boulders that made the hike down pretty challenging, and even dangerous! I fell on my butt several times. But, it was pretty funny. Anyways—be careful! Overall, it was an enjoyable hike! I’d go again and try the Happodai trail, which is more popular. Maybe it’s easier and a little better maintained. On a scale of a baby (so easy a baby could climb the mountain) to Tom Cruise (only Tom Cruise could climb the mountain) I’d say a well trained high school athlete would need to stop and rest several times throughout the hike. ***Side note—the ski lift closes at 2:10 PM!! Plan your visit carefully if you take the Inawashiro trail. Me and my buddies came down at 4:00 and had to slide down the ski slopes (without snow) and though it was pretty fun, our pants were stained brown by the end of it! It looked like we pooped ourselves. Good luck, and happy climbing! Commodore ポチ 🐶

Italian restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque mountains of Urubandai, Aroma Terrace is a charming eatery that beautifully embodies the essence of countryside living. This delightful spot welcomes visitors with its warm and cozy atmosphere, where two friendly ladies make you feel right at home. The restaurant's European-style wooden architecture adds to its charm, while the exquisite interior decor transports you to a quaint European setting.
My husband and I discovered this little gem on our road trip adventure to explore Urubandai. We unfortunately cannot speak much Japanese, however - we were warmly greeted by the two loveliest ladies who made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The setting is warm and cosy, the food was comforting and delicious, with fresh wild vegetables from the chef’s garden outside. We loved our experience here and highly recommend this restaurant to everyone! ❤️

A restaurant that combines Italian and Japanese cuisine in a homey atmosphere. The menu of dishes is limited but very tasty and served aesthetically. The owner of the restaurant is active in the kitchen as well as serving despite her advanced age. The attitude to the guests is very cordial and the feeling in the place is homely.

When I told the old lady at the store that there was a stink bug, she just said, ``Oh, please don't touch it. (Translated by Google) The restaurant is on the mountainside behind the bandai in the road station. It is a wooden European-style building. We were greeted by a very energetic old woman. The interior decoration of the restaurant is very exquisite, as if you are in Europe. The silky chickens outside the window are cooing vigorously, which is a natural and healing environment. On weekdays, I seem to only cook lunch plates. Today’s dishes are lasagna, chicken liver pate bread, potato egg pie, and vegetables from the garden. I also ordered "berry tea from the garden". Everything is very delicious and very delicious. There is a kind of magical garden vegetable that is unique. I regret not writing down the name. After finishing the meal, the old woman treated us to some meringue. I rarely eat meringue, after all, it’s just egg white😅, but here it’s mixed with some grains, so it tastes particularly fragrant and the favorability level is even higher. . After chatting with the old woman, I was surprised that she did all this by herself. From growing vegetables, raising chickens, cooking to making desserts, she did everything without relying on others. Every winter she went to Florence to teach Japanese culture. She is so active that she is 87 years old, which is really scary! If I have a chance, I really want to come here to eat on the weekend and see the set meal she and her son made together! (You need to make a reservation 2 days in advance, and it is also recommended to make a reservation for weekday lunch) (Original)

Gold House Meguro is a charming lakefront inn with six cozy rooms, a restaurant, cafe, and gelato shop. It offers activities related to the lake and supports customers in cooking their catches. The English-speaking proprietor recommends local specialties on the menu, such as Ko berry juice. Visitors can enjoy delicious food like salt ramen and mini cutlet while taking in the lovely view. This popular spot is perfect for those looking to fish at Lake Hibara or simply relax by the water.
Great food and service! The English speaking proprietor pointed out several local specialities on the menu which were delicious. Try the Ko berry (aka Lingonberry) juice if you're lucky enough for them to have it.

(Translated by Google) I was choosing an item with my preschooler and spent about 10 minutes thinking about whether to buy it or not, watching my child's reaction, when my child took the item away from the store, even though we hadn't even left the store, and asked, "Have you paid for it?" I was very surprised. I was quite considering making a purchase at the time, so I was glad that his behavior prevented me from buying it. What bothered me even more was that he was standing on the dining table with his shoes on while repairing a sign in the nearby eat-in space. I felt that this was inappropriate in terms of hygiene in the dining area for customers. There was paper on the chair for him to climb on, and he was standing on that, but there was no paper on the table. The attendant who guided us to the boat was very nice. The soba was quite pricey, but that's to be expected since we're deep in the mountains. It wasn't particularly charming, and the handsome guy at the soft serve ice cream stand seemed pretentious or embarrassed? He was unfriendly... We also ordered mountain salt soft serve ice cream, but it seemed to be the type that's sprinkled with salt, so it was extremely salty. We mixed it up in the cup and managed to finish it all. The president often eats dinner with us, and we can have a fun time listening to useful information. The magnificent view of Lake Hibara spreads out in front of us from the window of the room, which is soothing. I highly recommend the overnight fishing package, especially for smelt fishing. The telephone correspondence when making a reservation is very polite and reassuring, on par with nearby luxury hotels. Smelt fishing is a battle against nature, so there are days when you can catch hundreds and days when you can only catch about 40, but this is all down to luck and your own skill. The president basically checks the catch with everyone at the entrance on the lake side of Gold House when you return. If you go straight to the parking lot, you won't be able to tell them about your catch. If you order in advance, a warm and delicious lunch box will be delivered to the fishing spot (the overnight fishing package includes a lunch box). Ski & Snowboard Areas
Grandeco Snow Resort is a small skiing area known for its high-quality snow and tree-lined trails suitable for beginners. It's located about 4 hours from Tokyo by car, behind Mt Bandai, offering a backcountry experience with excellent snow conditions. The resort provides amenities such as equipment rental, kids' play area, and clean restrooms. Visitors can also enjoy activities like snowboarding and skiing in the winter season or appreciate the beauty of momiji in autumn.
Truly a hidden paradise. If this is discovered by tourists for sure this will be popular in no time like the ones in Niseko and Myoko Kogen which are more popular. The resort is a haven for winter enthusiasts, offering a perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. The slopes were well-maintained and varied, catering to all skill levels—from gentle beginner runs to thrilling black diamond trails. The lift system was efficient, with minimal wait times, even during peak hours. My family had a lesson from a very friendly instructor , although not very well spoken in English was very kind, patient and knowledgeable. The gondola ride was breathtaking and 1 day pass is only 2000Y. The ski lift passes are also value for money. It has slopes for beginners, intermediate and advanced. Has restaurant at the top and at the base. All staff are very friendly and powdered snow is like no other. It also has a great kids fun area and guests from en resort hotel can get a free pickup ride to and from the resort. Only 30mins away from Inawashiro Hotel and the resort offers public bus from both Inawashiro Station and Koriyama station for a minimal fee. for those who drive, it has ample parking space- thus if you have your own suit and gear, all u need to worry is to buy a 1day pass for a small fee with discounts for different age categories. The resort itself is stunning, nestled amidst breathtaking mountain scenery. The cozy lodges provided the perfect retreat after a long day on the slopes, with roaring fireplaces and panoramic views of the snow-covered peaks. The on-site restaurants offered delicious food, with hearty meals and gourmet hot chocolate that hit the spot after the cold.

Not a crowded resort, food court is spacious, venues selling snacks, Baskin Robbins ice cream, and crepes. Ski rental and ski shop available. Shuttle bus pick up/ drop off from hotel. Both lift and gondola take you to the top, and another lift to the highest point for advanced skiers.

4hours from Tokyo by car but we’ll worth it! It is behind Mt Bandai about 20km and the last few km’s are very deep in the backcountry…but the snow is that much better! Snow Scoots and Snow Moto’s are 100% welcome here. They even rent the latest Snow Moto models with several board options. View my pic to see the pricing. They even had one with the Shark Super carving board! Only downside is that the Gondala is very small and old. It was a real challenge to get my ride inside and they even stopped the Gondala to allow me enough time to squeeze in. So I only tried this once…there were 2 hi-speed covered quad lifts that were just as fast, so I did not miss out. This is a Tokyu Resort and the hotel was reasonably priced with a Onsen/spa. Next time I will stay here to enjoy the great snow!

During a sightseeing trip, one can visit the trendy Restaurant Mountley. This establishment offers an array of delectable dishes such as juicy hamburger steak and flavorful mentaiko pasta. The hamburger steak is tender and succulent, while the black pepper variation piques curiosity for future visits. The bread served is aromatic and impeccably baked. Although the mentaiko pasta impresses with its chewy texture and delightful taste, it could benefit from a larger quantity of squid.

(Translated by Google) Go to a stylish restaurant while sightseeing ❤️ Ordered hamburger steak and mentaiko pasta! The hamburger steak was tender, juicy and very delicious! I was also interested in the black pepper hamburger steak, so if I have the chance to come next time, I would definitely like to try that too! The bread is fragrant and perfectly baked! ! And the mentaiko pasta is chewy and delicious! Is there only 2 pieces of squid in there? So I thought it would be nice to have a little more! Also, the food and the atmosphere inside the restaurant were very good, so it would be great if the staff were a little more friendly. I thought so! We only accept cash, so if you are cashless, please be careful before ordering. Thank you for the meal! (Translated by Google) It's a slightly lively autumn day as tourists are slowly returning to Urabandai. I went to that delicious hamburger restaurant for the first time in a while. The 260g jumbo hamburger has a meaty and moist texture, and is lightly salted with a rich homemade demi sauce that enhances the deliciousness of the hamburger. The meat juices overflow from the cuts in the tightly packed hamburger steak. Add the sauce to your heart's content, serve on the rice, and taste innocently. I have loved hamburgers since I was a child. Even as an adult, the bliss of eating a delicious hamburger like this remains the same. Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Ushikiya is a cozy spot that offers delicious meals at reasonable prices. The restaurant was not crowded during a visit in the rainy season, allowing for a peaceful dining experience. The wild vegetable soba and cutlet sets are recommended, although the sauce katsudon may not suit those seeking authentic Aizu flavor. The Yamashio Ramen and Mini Sauce Katsudon are slightly pricier but worth trying. Despite some menu changes during holidays, special requests were accommodated.

(Translated by Google) I stopped by for lunch well after noon. I was thankful that most of them were open until 2pm. The inside of the store has the feel of a set meal restaurant that has been around for a long time. Many handmade paintings made from pressed flowers are on display and for sale. I think there were about 7 table seats for 4 people. It's empty probably because it's off the main street of the tourist area. Perhaps because it was the Obon season, there was no menu as mentioned in other reviews, so the restaurant was a bit tight. I didn't have any soba noodles, but I wonder if I'll go back after summer vacation? Since I arrived after 2pm, I was told that the cutlet meat was sold out, so I ordered set A (yamashio ramen and curry rice). We arrived about 10 minutes later. The amount of curry is about half a curry. For Yamashio Ramen, the noodles are medium thick and a little flat. It's not frizzy. I think it's water-added noodles because it's chewy (I'm sorry if I'm wrong). Char siu uses pork belly. The soup is hot and has a strong salty taste. Char siu is normal. . I want the soup to be served hot. Nestled in the serene backroads of Urabandai, En Cafe is a charming pizza spot that exudes warmth and character. Housed in a beautifully renovated building that once served as a pension, this delightful eatery offers glimpses of its past while providing modern comforts. With large windows overlooking lush greenery, diners can enjoy the feeling of al fresco dining as they savor delicious stone-baked pizzas made from handmade dough.
Fantastic relaxing atmosphere surrounded by nature and the pizzas are amazing!

(Translated by Google) This is my favorite cafe in Urabandai. I arrived right at opening time on a weekday in September. There was also a shop in the pension district in the back of Urabandai. The communal parking lot was large enough and easy to park. The shop is located among the trees, and the building is a log house. The atmosphere was very nice. I ordered as soon as I entered and was shown to my seat. Since it was just after opening, there were no customers. The inside of the store has the warmth of wood and is very relaxing. I was seated at the counter, and the front window was fully open so I could feel the fresh air directly. The sound of green leaves touching each other and the sound of a river flowing. Very relaxing. I don't think it was there when I went a few years ago, but there were Japanese-style seats available. I ordered a pizza and a drink. Honestly, the drinks taste normal. There were no noteworthy features. This is a shop that sells pizza. I think it took about 15-20 minutes for the pizza to be served. I made a mushroom pizza, and there are plenty of mushrooms on it. Of course the taste was delicious, and the dough was nice and chewy. I was able to enjoy the deliciousness to my ears. The price was 1600 yen for pizza and 400 yen for drinks. Honestly it's expensive. It's expensive, but the pizza is a good size and the restaurant has a great atmosphere, so I didn't have any complaints. After 10 o'clock, customers started coming in one by one. It seems to be a popular restaurant even on weekdays, so we recommend arriving early. Please come and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. This is a recommended shop. The building, which was once a pension, has been renovated, so there are some remnants of that time, and you can still stay in two rooms. The eating and drinking space has windows on one wall, so it can be integrated with the trees, giving it the feel of terrace seating. The colors of the leaves on the trees change with the seasons and the weather, and I think the appearance changes. Chair seats and tatami seats are separated, and the tatami room has a tatami kotatsu table and low sofa, making you feel like you're relaxing in your own room. If you're in the area, you should try the ``Aizu Yamashio Pizza,'' baked in a high-temperature stone oven (I wrote that I didn't know, but the owner commented that it was definitely a high-temperature stone oven.) Went here for skiing. Very unsatisfied. The ski area is small and poorly planned with very little variation. Felt like I overpaid for what I was getting. Really didn't understand the reason to give so much money. Advantages: Uses PayPay as method of payment. Has a babyroom with cribs and toys for the young ones. Good for beginners and young kids. Lifts are slow and low, so also good for kids.

However, the dining area gets crowded at lunchtime, so we recommend arriving early. While there aren't many runs, the peaks offer slopes of over 30°, with both groomed and ungroomed runs, creating powder runs and carving runs perfect for experts. The pistes are also well-maintained. The gentle slopes near the first lift near the center offer safe skiing for children and beginners. There's also a sledding area and swings for added fun!♪ The medium slopes near the third lift offer great carving, and you can also play around with the terrain and try freestyle and run-style tricks. The lodge's dining room is spacious and perfect for families, so grandparents can enjoy the famous mountain salt ramen while watching their grandchildren ski. We also recommend renting snowshoes and hiking up to the legendary Yellow Falls. 🌟 The meticulous safety measures, such as cutting down bushes with pruning shears, are impressive. 🌟A ski resort that cares for children and beginners. Rurinuma Pond, also known as Goshikinuma Ponds, is a stunning natural attraction slightly off the main tourist route. The newly built observation deck provides a panoramic view of the brilliant greenish water surface and the surrounding landscape, including Mt. Urabandai. This picturesque spot offers a win-win situation as it is located next to Aonuma, another beautiful pond in the area.

I can see how some people would find this hike boring, but I really enjoyed it. Not too steep, but there are a few places that are almost a scramble. Decent signage, but all in Japanese so have a map or take a picture of the trail map at the visitor center (you should probably just buy one, they’re only 100¥). I opted to walk on the boardwalk around the marsh and not summit. It was a beautiful view. Fall colors aren’t quite in full swing, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Il Regalo, an Italian restaurant, offers delectable cuisine that includes thin and crispy pizza as well as spicy salami penne arrabiata. Unlike the nearby hotels' izakaya, their food is superior in quality. Despite limited dinner options in the area, Il Regalo provides a satisfying dining experience with dishes such as pasta, pizza, cheese platter, bread with dipping oil and balsamico.
Delicious lunch offerings of crunchy salads, saucy pasta and crispy Roma-style pizza. The staff were careful to get our order exact and were very tolerant of our young children. I recommend the salami and olive pizza, encourage any of their dessert offerings, and attest that they deliver a great espresso too.

We had a lovely stay in this wonderful Italian albergo for 5 nights in February 2025. The location worked well for us, midway between several ski fields. Il Regalo is a delight, a small family-run hotel with 6 rooms above the restaurant, just like in Italy. The owner was so kind and helpful to us. In broken english he would recommend ski fields and sell us discounted lift tickets. He is also an absolute Italophile and the entire property is decked out in Italian ceramics and souvenirs. The Italian food and wine for dinner makes a great change and the breakfasts (included) were excellent - an offering of salad, fruit and yoghurt, a daily hot dish and pastries. We had a very large, comfortable corner bedroom with a nice view out the back of the property. The carpet was badly stained, otherwise the room was clean and serviced daily, Even the king bed sheets were changed daily! We stored our skis and dried our boots in front of a heater in the small foyer. The excessive snow was cleared from the carpark twice a day.

Good food. Thin and crispy pizza, the missus had spicy salami penne arrabiata. Granted there is very little in the area for dinner options but miles better than the garbage served at our nearby hotel’s “izakaya”. Not so expensive, a pasta dish, pizza, cheese platter, bread and dipping oil n balsamico and 3 glasses of wine for around ¥7000.

This place was AMAZING. We came after a hike and the owner was so nice! all the staff was amazing! And the food was spectacular. Our favorite was the waygu pasta, where the meat quite literally MELTED in our mouth. The espresso may have been the best i've had in quite a while, and all the desserts were 10/10. Definitely recommend the matcha panacada. If your in the area its a must try!

There are not many restaurants in Urabandai area. And this Italian restaurant serves really nice food. Taste was also quite good and because of the fresh mountain vegetables the taste felt even better.

Restaurant
The restaurant at Rest House Goshikinuma, located in a popular tourist spot, exceeded expectations despite initial skepticism. Positive reviews piqued curiosity about its offerings. Upon trying the tempura soba, fillet sauce cutlet bowl, and soba set, complete satisfaction was achieved. The establishment proved to be spacious and well-maintained with commendable customer service. While the flavor of the soba could use improvement, it possessed a delightful texture that pleased the palate.

(Translated by Google) I visited you on October 30th. The sauce cutlet bowl was average, but the soba noodles were super delicious! ! I was surprised. I have been to many high-end restaurants and places that are selected as famous restaurants on Tabelog, and I think this is one of the most delicious restaurants. The quality is amazing at this price. I only stopped by while visiting a nearby art museum (which also exhibits works by Dali and Picasso), but I think I unexpectedly found a great shop. The katsudon was very filling and delicious, and since it was a weekday afternoon, there were plenty of seats and I was able to enjoy my meal at my own pace. The portions are quite large, so I think it's better to visit after your stroll rather than before (lol). (Translated by Google) We went in as a group of two around 12:30 on a Sunday while we were checking out Goshikinuma. There was no wait, but it wasn't particularly empty, and it seemed like several groups were constantly coming and going. We ordered a sauce katsudon (pork cutlet bowl), a type of B-grade Fukushima gourmet food, and Kitakata ramen. I forget the prices, but I think the sauce katsudon was in the 1000 yen range and the other in the 900 yen range. The sauce katsudon was freshly fried and crispy, and delicious. The sweet and spicy sauce mixed well with the pork cutlet and cabbage, making it tasty. It was tasty, but just average. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from the Kitakata ramen, but it was very delicious. It was light, yet had a rich, fatty flavor and a deep flavor. I ended up drinking quite a bit of the soup, which I don't usually drink. When I think of Kitakata ramen, I imagine square pork slices on top, but this ramen had the typical round pork slices on top. I don't know much about ramen, but is it the kind they sell at Gyosu or something? But it made me realize how delicious Kitakata ramen is, and it was so good that it made me want to eat it again on this trip! I guess it can't be helped since it's the mountains, but there was a pretty tough-looking bug flying around the restaurant, and it dove into the Kitakata ramen soup I still wanted to drink, which was disappointing, so I gave it a 3 star rating for the atmosphere. Peeeeeep Thank you for the meal. Waterfalls
Onogawafudotaki Falls is a picturesque destination to enjoy the autumn foliage with loved ones. With a moderate number of photographers and hikers, visitors can comfortably stroll along the flat path leading to the waterfall, allowing for a refreshing forest bath experience. The negative ions emitted by the powerful cascade add to its revitalizing qualities. May 15th saw cloudy skies and cold temperatures, yet the abundance of water made for an impressive sight.
The scenery in Onogawafudo waterfall is beautiful! While visiting there in spring, I could see the spectacular waterfall. It's about 25 metres high and at that time of the year there is an abundance of water from the melting snow. What's more, at the bottom of the waterfall I could see a small rainbow in the reflection of the spraying water near my feet. Although it was high season, there were no other people besides us, so I could hog all the scenery, fresh air and greenery to myself. As for the access here, there is no public transportation. You need to go by car or taxi. There is a parking area at the entrance of the track to the waterfall. The path is well maintained and easy to walk on. It will only take you about 30 min to get to the waterfall on foot. It is well worth a visit. Highly recommended!

Short snowshow walk to get there (around 30-40 min). On a sunny day, it is quite pleasant. This can be morning walk before a longer tour. (Like to the yellow fall). Or it could be a good place for initiation to showshowing.

The road is only wide enough for one car, but there are places to avoid as you proceed, so you should be fine if you proceed slowly. There is a parking lot and a simple toilet (Western style). It took 1 hour round trip for 3 women in their 50s. The sidewalks are well-maintained, but there are some areas with large stones, so it's best to wear non-slip shoes. After about 400 m, there are steep stone steps (about 140 steps), and after about 100 m, the road becomes flat for about 200 m, and there is a waterfall at the end of the shrine. The forest along the way was very relaxing, and the waterfall was majestic and full of negative ions, making it a wonderful place. You can directly experience the feeling of being inside a Ghibli movie forest. Even if my knees hurt or my back hurts, I feel satisfied when I go, thinking it's my first and last time. Bandai-Azuma Lake Line ( scenic drive road)

Bandai-Azuma Lake Line is a scenic drive road nestled between the Bandai, Azuma, and NishiAzuma mountains. It offers stunning views of Lake Akimoto, Lake Onogawa, and Lake Hibara along with larch forests. The Nakatsugawa Valley provides great photo opportunities in any season. During spring and summer, the fresh green leaves shine while autumn brings beautiful foliage. There are rest areas like Nakatsugawa Rest House for convenience.
Some beautiful scenery on a nice day, and the short hike to a waterfall is wonderful in the fall.

The drive was less scenic than we’d anticipated. While it’s a beautiful area, the road is not well-maintained and you can hardly see the view due to the trees. While I don’t want them to cut trees down/back just so I can have a view, it also just wasn’t what I’d expected. A couple pullovers look like they have no view because you need to walk up to them. Others have also mentioned it may close during late fall/winter, so be sure to check before you go.

(Translated by Google) I went out and learned about it from a high-level amateur camera hobbyist. It seems that it is not well known to the general public, so there are not many people who take pictures, but if you see someone taking pictures and come by, you will be parked casually on the street, so be careful when passing by. As others have posted, the autumn leaves reflected on the water surface are beautiful. When I visited, it was a little past its peak, so I was able to get some decent shots at the bottom. If you look carefully, you can see the path left by the photographer, so you can see where the photo was taken. I went there for lunch to see what they were about and was surprised by a pleasant experience. The menu was all in Japanese but this was quickly bypassed with the help of the young lady working. She was very kind and respectful the entire time I was present. With her assistance I chose the pasta with Penne noodles and red herbal tea both of which arrived shortly after I ordered. The meal was pleasant and very satisfying to eat. This all the more so with how hard it is to find places or people who cook with herbs properly. I was very impressed with the atmosphere of the store. The pleasant herbal scent, the aged wood flooring, the afternoon sunlight; all being brought together with the fall season just outside calmed and comforted my soul as I ate. I hope to visit again when I’m back in there area. I will not forget my experience here.

(Translated by Google) We had lunch on the covered terrace, which was safe even in the rain. I ordered the herb sausage set and pasta set respectively. Herb sausage has coarsely ground meat with an aroma of herbs that whets the appetite. The crispy toasted bread is moist and soft on the inside, and goes well with the herb butter. The pasta had a warm and rich basil sauce that blended well with the thick pasta noodles. When you think of herbs, you might think it has a refreshing flavor like mint, but it actually has a deep flavor. The soup was similar to onion soup, but had a more dense and delicate taste. The colors of the salad are as shown in the photo, but you can also eat the flowers that come with it. I thought it would be a little harsh, but when I tried it, it wasn't at all! Even if you're full from breakfast and dinner, you'll be fine with this vegetable-based lunch. And please enjoy the charm of herbs. (Translated by Google) There are two parking lots, one on the north (information center side) and one on the south across Renge Swamp. A grassy area with table benches is right next to both parking lots. Walking on the wooden deck and exploring the wetlands is also beautiful. It is well maintained and easy to walk and understand. Please be careful as there are signs along the route warning of bears and plants along the side that will give you a rash if you touch them. Scenic spot
Urabandai Park District, located in the Aizu Region, is a nature lover's paradise offering a variety of activities throughout the year. In summer, visitors can escape the heat by exploring the Aizu Highlands and Urabandai with mountain climbing and visits to Lake Inawashiro. Winter brings opportunities for skiing at numerous resorts known for their abundant snowfall. The area is also famous for its stunning autumn foliage, making it an ideal destination during this season.

蕎麦古家

Soba noodle shop
Nestled in a quaint village by the serene shores of Lake Hibara, 蕎麦古家 is an enchanting soba restaurant that exudes charm and nostalgia. This old folk house, with its warm and inviting interior filled with antiques, offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Although my visit found it empty, this hidden gem is known for its popularity among locals and visitors alike.
(Translated by Google) I had a large serving of Tenmori soba. Delicious soba noodles with a chewy and sweet taste that are soaked in cold water. The soba soup is also delicious. The large pumpkin in the vegetable tempura is said to be fried at a low temperature, making it fluffy and delicious. The female shopkeeper runs the shop by herself, almost always running the shop. It's a very nice shop, with the owner's personality and a relaxing interior. We recommend that you make a reservation.

When we arrived at 11:30, there were no customers in front of us, and within 10 minutes of ordering, we received the Juwari Soba Medium (1,050 yen). I have visited various Juwari soba restaurants on my bike touring, and the soba noodles here are of very high quality. The bonito soup stock was also very delicious. My wife and I both have Tenzaru. The large asparagus tempura was especially delicious. It was a chilly day, but I was able to warm up in the soba bath. (Translated by Google) Enjoy soba while sitting around the hearth in an old folk house. I wanted to drink local sake. Arrived around 2 o'clock. There were no seats available, so I had to wait about 10 minutes. I decided to ask the shopkeeper to call me and took a walk around the lake. If it's sunny, you can kill time by enjoying the scenery. When I received the phone call and returned to the restaurant, I was immediately shown to my seat. Since it was a late lunch time, there were two options on the menu: ``Morisoba'' or ``Temori Soba.'' I ordered vegetable tempura. It depends on the timing of other orders, but from now on it's time for patience. I had to wait 40 minutes. Customers who came later waited about 20 minutes. Finally, the tempura came out. It has a rich vegetable flavor. You can tell that each item has fresh ingredients. It is best to eat them in order from the top. The flavor will gradually become stronger. Just as I finished eating the tempura, the soba appeared at the right time. The soba noodles have a great flavor and are cooked just to my liking! It's crazy. It seems like you can eat as much as you want. It has a chewy texture, and the texture is irresistible. I felt so luxurious as I sat around the hearth.

(Translated by Google) It is best to check online before visiting as there are off-peak times and periods when the restaurant is not open. There are so many antiques that I think I have collected them well. There are no rules when it comes to eating soba, but ``mizu soba'' is made by putting soba noodles in spring water instead of using soba soup, so that you can feel the slight aroma and flavor of soba that lingers as it goes down your throat. So eat first. There is also ``shio soba,'' which is a way of eating noodle tips with a little salt. Do not put green onions in mentsuyu. If you eat green onions, you'll be left with a spiciness that will overwhelm the green onions and you won't be able to enjoy the delicious taste of soba. Green onions are used as a condiment for the soba-yu that you drink at the end. Why is there crazy salt?

I was proud of the aroma, and it was my first time to try eating soba with fresh water. Even salt is delicious. Tsuyu was also delicious, but it was a shock. It's a fantastic soba restaurant that is only open in the summer, but the owner has decided to close it this summer...it's a shame.
