Greek restaurant
Restaurant
Bokos Ouzeri is a popular spot in Volos that follows the local tradition of serving small dishes when ordering tsipouro. The atmosphere is lively, with mostly Greek locals dining there. The service is attentive and the food comes out quickly and delicious. It's known for offering great value, where a few plates of meze and small bottles of tsipouro are reasonably priced.
Absolute Great Restaurant - before you ask for the menu - just order tsipuru with meze- your Dinner will immediately start with a smile 🥰. Evereything else- Enjoy - the food and staff is super! Mostly Greek locals dining here and the atmosphere is superb!
Björn R — Google review
One of the oldest “Tsipouradika” in Volos. The quality of the food is always the same. Its not the best you can find but you will not leave the place unsatisfied. The quantity of the plates is more than satisfied. If your goal is to taste tsipouro with lots of food its the perfect choice. If you need something different tou should look the choices near the port. Nevertheless “Bokos” will be always a safe choice if you are not sure where to go.
Thanasis B — Google review
Absolutely outstanding! BOKOS OUZERI is hands down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Greece. The food was beyond delicious — every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the passion behind the cooking. The atmosphere was warm and lively, perfectly capturing the Greek spirit, and the staff were so friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home. If you love authentic Greek cuisine, this place is a must-visit. Everything was simply top-notch — from the food to the service to the vibe. Can’t wait to come back!

One of the best places for tsipouraki in Volos (Nea Ionia). Great food, friendly service and authentic atmosphere that truly captures the spirit of a traditional tsipouradiko.
DIMITRIS P — Google review
Excellent food - a perfect combination of traditional and modern Greek cuisine. Great variety of appetizers that come with high quality local tsipouro. Must-visit place on the culinary map of Volos.

Wow.... You order a tiny bottle of ouzo and get four small plates of food.... Then we also got two fish and some beet root salad. Diñner for four... About 40 euros. Fantastic food... Great service. Apparently this is only done in Volos.

One of the best in town balancing tourist and traditional cuisine. Still they use microwaves... They have redesigned their space.

Delicious food, fair prices, nice place, not in the best location. Parking was easy to find! Second time in Volos and we passed by this place for the quality of the food. Highly recommended

The Μουσείο Πλινθοκεραμοποιίας Ν. & Σ. Τσαλαπάτα, located in Volos, is a former factory transformed into a museum showcasing the history of brick and tile manufacturing. It offers workshops and exhibits that provide insight into traditional family business practices that have been preserved for many years.
Beautiful local istorical place, very interesting to visit especially with your family and children. Traditional family business that exists for many years and now it is a beautiful museum with clean and green environment. We enjoyed this very much. The ticket price is low and it is totally worth it to see.

Excellent museum, impressive building, kind people working there willing to help and explain in detail everything you ask. The only problem is that we visitedin a how August day and there is no single exhibition space that has air conditioning.

Excellent industrial museum, worth a visit while in town of Volos. It demonstrates the history and technology of a brick and roof tiling plant, with nicely preserved exhibits, videos and facilities.

A visit to this wonderfully designed museum that serves as preservation of our cultural heritage is essential when in Volos. With deeply knowledgeable guides and beautiful exhibits you can learn everything about the brick factory and traditional brick-making techniques.

A surprising museum from the past century that is actual manufacturing of bricks, building blocks, roofing and mining. It shows the real machines and manufacturing lines exactly as it was then along with the working personnel and the family that started the business.

When in Volos, a visit to the Entomological Museum is a must. This unique museum boasts one of the largest private collections in Europe, featuring tens of thousands of insects from around the world. The extensive butterfly collection and fantastic beetle species, including scarabs and hercules bugs, are just some highlights. The museum offers great insight into the world of insects, covering topics like mimicry, camouflage, adaptation, and evolution.
I recommend this museum and tour to every family on Greece trip. They have a large collection of insects from all over the world. We were traveling through Greece on end of October. Called museum day before and scheduled for the tour. We had private tour through museum and insects. Son of the owner was really kind and resourceful.

Very unique and interesting museum! It has a big collection of insects from all over the world and the story of the museum curator is very interesting especially for the kids! The visit must be scheduled earlier,we didn't know that, so we went without our appointment but the curator was very kind and received us without any problems! We recommend everyone to see this unique place especially families with kids :)

Unique entomological museum, one of its kind in Greece and one of the largest private collections in Europe! Only about a quarter of collection is exibited, with beautiful butterfly collection and fantastic beetle species from scarab to hercules bug to silk cocoons and wasp nests! The tour offers great insight of world of insects, like mimicry, camouflage and adaptation and evolution, and the greatness of experience surpasses the showroom itself. And the enthusiasm of Dr Koutroumpas is obviously passed to the next generation, the tour was very interesting and fun!

Volos Port is a bustling and charming destination located on the eastern coast of Greece. Nestled between the azure waters of the Pagasetic Gulf and the lush slopes of Mount Pelion, it offers stunning natural beauty. The city serves as a gateway to the picturesque mountain villages of Pelion peninsula and nearby islands like Skiathos and Skopelos.

A great place for walking along the ships and admiring sunsets from tavernas across the street. The city of Volos is quite nice, with local wonderful shops, churches, restaurants. The difficult part is to find a parking place out of the burning sun.

Very nice place next to center of the city. You can have a walk or going with your bike. Crowdy especially in summer where you can travel to the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos. Full of yachts as you can see in photos.

History Museums
The Athanasakio Archaeological Museum of Volos, housed in an elegant neoclassical building, showcases ancient artifacts such as tombstones, gold jewelry, and statues spanning from the Stone Age to the Roman Era. Located in the vibrant city of Volos on the eastern coast of Greece, visitors can also enjoy its picturesque seaside promenade known as Argonauts Avenue and indulge in delicious seafood at welcoming taverns.
When you first walk into the museum you would naturally think it’s relatively old style with high ceilings and outside lighting through skylights and bright lamps that reflect of glass. Also white walls with hessian backings. These days lots of modern museums are dark with close LED lighting focused on the objects. However what you find is something very special. Many of the most important objects - mostly in the Neolithic section - are actually not behind glass at all. That gives the viewer a real close and personal contact with the objects. And the Neolithic objects are quite brilliant. A very important museum to visit.
Jeremy K — Google review
The Archaeological Museum of Volos pleasantly surprised us. It offers a fascinating collection of tools, jewelry, and everyday objects, dating back as far as 5000 BC. It was truly exciting to see in real life what I used to read about in school textbooks. All the information is provided in both Greek and English, which makes the experience accessible and engaging. We arrived on a Saturday around 11 a.m. and were the only visitors for a while, which gave us the chance to explore everything at our own pace. After about 40 minutes, a school group arrived, which brought a different energy — it was nice to see kids learning about their history. Highly recommended for a calm, meaningful visit!

Nice little museum a bit out of the city centre of Volos. They have three different exhibitions: one detailing the palaeolithic and neolithic findings from Thessaly, one detailing burial customs and steles from ancient Demetrias, and one detailing the history of Volos. They have most signs in English, at least the ones describing the artifacts, but the informational signs in the Volos exhibition are only in Greek. Overall, the museum can be visited in less than an hour, especially in the morning when there are fewer visitors.
Jesper — Google review
Wasn’t expecting the extend of the exhibits. Great pottery collections. Need less than an hour. Building has been maintained inside and outside (garden needs some tlc), aircondition was working so was nice and cool inside. Paid EUR 10 entrance. Seems like entrance increased based on previous Google reviews.
Alex V — Google review
Anyone who loves Greek history and has the opportunity to visit this place is a must visit. There is a lot to see about the history not only of this place but also of the whole of Greece. My recommendation for this historical museum.
Nenad K — Google review
Nice little museum. Entrance is 10€. Easy to visit in an hour if you have some time to spare in Volos. Pity that most of the larger informational signs are only in Greek.
Robert R — Google review
I have very mixed feelings about this museum. On the one hand the exhibits are very good with interesting history and artifacts. There is a good amount of information available. It's a small museum but well put together. On the other hand, a lot of the information is only available in Greek. You can download a doc but it only gives an overview of the different exhibitions and a floor plan of the museum, nothing about individual objects. Having said that, I'm not sure that it's fair that non-Greek speakers must pay the same price or even more, and also at 10 Euro (29 Aug 2025), I feel they can really put in a little effort to also have everything in English too. There's supposedly some audio available that you can listen to for some things. But I asked the lady at reception and she said it's not working. Her English was very bad, so she might also have meant it's not available in English. So definitely make sure you take your phone with you and have an internet connection available so you can use Google Translate or a similar app to translate the various exhibit plaques.

Abbaeio is a restaurant that provides a consistent and enjoyable experience. The staff are incredibly friendly, creating a pleasant atmosphere from the moment you arrive. Additionally, Abbaeio offers an impressive selection of beers to satisfy even the most discerning customers.

Small plates restaurant
Restaurant
Lépi, a small plates restaurant located in the Pelion area, embraces the local tradition of serving tsipouro and meze. The establishment offers a variety of delicious and fresh seafood options, all accompanied by their own decent tsipouro. With reasonable prices and generous portions, Lépi has gained a reputation for providing quality food without breaking the bank. Situated in Volos' harbor, this tavern is known for its great service and clean environment.
We visit this restaurant every time we’re in Volos or heading to the Sporades, and it never disappoints. The food is homemade, well-prepared, and the menu is perfectly balanced—not too big, yet very thoughtful. Great value for money. The house wine is excellent and affordable. The staff are polite, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. They always offer a complimentary dessert or drink at the end, and are very welcoming to children. Highly recommended!

A very pleasent & non-assuming restaurant . Friendly and helpful service, and did I mention that the food was excellent? It sure was. Freshly prepared with fresh products. The family enjoyed the smoked eggplant and the zucchini balls, and I enjoyed the Tsipouro (one dinner the Lépi and the second night the idoniko - I preffered the Idono Tsipouro) but above all I loved the smoked cod. I recently visited Manolis' popular restaurant in Volos without a reservation, but the owner graciously found us a table since others had not shown up. He provided recommendations and we happily followed his suggestions. The taramosalata was exceptional, one of the best I've ever tasted. The fried red mullet and grilled squid were expertly cooked and incredibly fresh. If you enjoy fresh fish, I highly recommend this restaurant. The service was friendly, helpful, and created a lovely atmosphere.
I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment I walked in, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, including the owner, who went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful time. The food was absolutely outstanding, with the fresh fish being a true highlight. Every dish was prepared to perfection, showcasing both quality ingredients and expert craftsmanship. This restaurant is undoubtedly a gem, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food, excellent service, and a warm atmosphere. A must-visit!

Loved them all : the food, people, atmosphere... Food: fresh, original tastes: fish , vegetables, hand made fries, delicious bread, tasty meat ( on the other hand: it's a fish restaurant by the sea , so it's better to eat fish stuff...shrimps , calamari... delicious!!! ) . Service very friendly and at the same time fast and efficient. Atmosphere relaxed and clean.... Don't forget to reserve a table: it's, always full ( but there is sufficient distance between tables) especially in weekends. A must at Volos.

Plagios, a restaurant with a lackluster view and scarce ambiance, offered an extraordinary veal steak accompanied by espresso sauce. Though the waitstaff seemed less attentive in light of the empty establishment, they maintained a friendly demeanor. The absence of music was disappointing; however, the quality of their wine proved to be exceptional. During lunchtime, patrons were treated to an outstanding cherry tomato salad and pasta dish featuring truffle cream.
The best food in town. They have two kitchen chefs. One specializes in pasta and the other in seafood. A restaurant for every recommendation. Affordable prices. We ordered an appetizer of grilled feta in honey and nuts, handmade bread with turmeric, fish spread, fish fillets with vegetables and fresh pasta with cuttlefish ink and tomato sauce. Everything was beautiful. Pleasant staff, communicative waiter, surrender to his recommendations.

We visited this restaurant a lot of times and every time the attitude to wards the customers is getting worse order our starters and less than 15” the waitress came to take the plates and tell us is time for the main to come out we tell her not finish yet and the answer was is not my fault is the order of the chef is we have only 20” to eat the starters this is insane never come cross something like this in the most expensive restaurants anywhere very bad I don’t visit again

The place has very nice atmosphere and the dishes look great on the pictures. That said, I was unimpressed. Had higher expectations, especially for this price range. I wanted the tuna, bad luck, they were out. We were recommended a salad with pieces of beef and mango that had no coherence at all. I wanted to try the liver with peaches, I wanted it rare and the waiter recommended medium. I accepted and they brought it done. My wife pasta was good, and our friend salmon fine. Still, the attitude of the waiters and the time they took to serve doesn't match the bill. Specially when my second dish came and my wife did not... Will not come back.

This has been the best meat i ate for a long while. The young veal steak with espresso sauce! Was really something. The restaurant was very empty and the table I sat was outside with a boring view. I reckon, due to the emptiness waiters were not that attentive but pretty friendly. I could hear no music which is a downside. The vine was superb.

Day 2

Off the beaten path
For day 2, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Centaurs' path. Not quite as popular as Athanasakio Archaeological Museum of Volos, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 6 hours.

Hiking Trails
Centaurs' Path is a popular hiking trail in Pelion, known for its ease and natural beauty. Legend has it that this path was once used by the mythical Centaurs to access east Pelion. The trail begins at the Adamena gate and offers stunning views of unique natural landscapes. It's a relatively easy hike, suitable for families with children, taking around 30 minutes to complete with stops for photos.
An amazing, peaceful, romantic place. Allows for an easy, easy hiking trail. There is a beautiful flow of water in the stream, small waterfalls, colorful butterflies. We spent a wonderful, shady, pleasant hour there. In short, a wonderful nature experience

A beautiful place to visit but the path is just NOT there! If you feel a little adventurous (hiking over a what used to be a trail that is now destroyed by a flood that happened a couple of years ago), then feel free to visit! It's a pleasure to see but not what I expected. I visited on August 2025 with my wife and 7year old kid. After 45 minutes worth of walking and climbing we managed to get almost to the end but that last 70-100 meters were utterly destroyed so we couldn't finish it and reach the kiosk. Municipality needs to address this very soon to avoid further bad comments and even injured visitors.

Go only if you enjoy ridden down and forgotten paths with bridges only serving as artifacts to be observed and not trodden on. You will be required to do some light climbing to get a better view of the eroded path beneath you. The forest is underwhelming but not as much as the summer-time stream, which is no more than one puddle lazily seeping into the next, I am guessing also due to the number of plastic tubes guiding the water to unknown locations. At the path's top point you will not be able to continue unless you really put some work into an unofficial steep incline, by the looks more meant for actual centaurs than people, only to be met by bulldozers and a construction site (which is not actually constructing anything path related or repairing the bridges or anything like that). At this point it will be time to arm yourself, the house close by has 2 large shepherd dogs not willing to negotiate. Good luck.

A nice hike in the woods. The way is a bit messed up and not always clear where to go. Would probably recommend going to other hike in the area as there are hundreds of them.
Pavel K — Google review
Breathtaking views. Rays of sunlight between 80 shades green.... Little streams, huge rocks, wauw. The dogshad the time of their life.
Saskia T — Google review
The trail is very nice within the forest along the river canyon, however was destroyed by water flow so there are some obstacles to cross like broken wood bridges. We were able to make 90% of it with no much efforts (see picture) but stopped very close to the end / road to avoid massive gravel. A pitty that it is not handled by the authorities
Dror S — Google review
Very nice, but it was destroyed by the storm Daniel 2 years ago. But a very nice 1:30 hrs hike.
Lucian P — Google review
2024 update Trail is heavily damaged by floods, however is doable. But not for famillies, hikers only with good shoes. 2022 update I come here everytime I can because I want to enjoy this "Centaurus path" track. Posted new pictures and some video files too. Original post Do you know that in Greece someone can enjoy mountains, trees, trekking, cold springs, waterfalls? Yes, you can.

Kontos House - Museum of Theophilos

4.5
(193)
Museum
Take a leisurely walk along the aged cobbled lane towards the central square, encompassed by traditional residences exhibiting stone tiled roofs and embellished window designs, situated on the incline of a steep hill. A typical Pelion dwelling comprises three levels; with lower floors fashioned from stone, featuring petite windows to ensure warmth during winter months, while an upper wooden floor boasts additional windows catering primarily to summer needs.
The museum is in a closed area and the entrance is a bit hidden to the garden. You will find a parking space when u arrive to the area while using Google map, than u go walk back and take the turn left and left again. We were not charged, but I regret not having left a tip to the guide who doesn't speak English but did his best to explain to us some of the things. Two important works in the lobby entrance and then it's up to the first floor where the beautiful restored works are! A third floor existed in the villa, but an earthquake just made the house loose this level. Ask kindly for pictures, and don't make them all public lately. The works are few and the visitors would love to be surprised!

Very well preserved since the people who work there have put in personal effort and struggle to keep the house like this. The murals and colors are alive and the soul of the painter is present in every brushstroke. We had the pleasure and luck of being given a private tour and so we learned a lot of information about the life and work of the painter. The museum, thanks to the love of the people who take care of it, is in excellent condition and the frescoes have remained almost intact. It has been restored with great care and there is a great willingness to inform you about this rare Greek painter whose time could not accept him. A big thank you for the time and for the tour and bravo that there are still people who take care of our museums and our cultural heritage. Situated by the sea, it features benches for unwinding while enjoying picturesque views. Additionally, the park boasts playgrounds for children and free Wi-Fi access.
A decent park along the sea front just out of the port breakwater and stretches up to Agios Konstantinos church. Plenty of trees and some park benches. Good to have a rest in the shade while enjoying the view.

Anavros Beach is a part of Anavros Park, located in Volos. It consists of 2-3 connected sandy beaches with clear water, making it suitable for swimming during the summer months. The beach offers amenities such as changing booths and showers, and one of the beaches even has a special construction for wheelchair access to the water. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling to see fish around the rocks near the peer. Additionally, there are restaurants and bars nearby offering good service at reasonable prices.

2-3 connected sand beaches, right in Volos; clean water and you can even see fish on and around the rocks of the peer (if snorkelling). All beaches have a changing booth as well as showers. On the middle one there’s even a special construction so that people in wheelchairs can enter the water! Found this super considerate and it’s the first place I’ve ever seen smth like this! In some areas in the back you can get a bit of shade by sheltering under the olive trees; Lots of terraces just on the beach, as well as a big parking.

The dining experience at Εστιατόριο Γευσοκράτορας, located in Pelion Mountain, is definitely one of the top choices. The service provided by the staff is exceptional and the cozy atmosphere with its beautiful interior adds to the overall charm. The food served here is a delightful combination of traditional and modern flavors, making it a must-visit for those seeking a unique culinary experience.
Outstanding restaurant!! The service, the food and the whole atmosphere exceeded our expectations! If you’re around the area it’s a must to have lunch/ dinner here! What really left us surprised was the service of a specific waiter ( cannot recall his name but he was wearing eyeglasses). His positive attitude , confidence, knowledge of the restaurant’s products and hospitality really made us feel welcomed and taken care of!!

We went there with high expectations which were unfortunately not met. Super cosy atmosphere which was a big plus and super attentive service that however feels a bit creepy at times. Family next to us had a new-born and two children 3-5 yo who obviously made some extra noise (which is absolutely normal and fine). Yet the waiter was super strict with them telling them to calm down as the other guests "need to dine in peace". One should tell their parents and not the kids!! When it comes to food, presentation was extra and the flavour was missing. A lot of balsamic vinegar in sauces which left your tongue completely numb at the end of the meal. Definitely a lot of hype about this restaurant but I really don't see why.
Kyriakos H — Google review
A unique combination of tradition and fine dining, reflected on the decor, atmosphere, dish presentation and taste. The portions are generous and the tastes are mind blowing. I particularly loved the tsouknitha soufflé. The service was utterly attentive and professional. The restaurant is not on the main road, and does not attract food traffic. Yet it was recommended to us by numerous friends, locals and not only, and we are grateful for this.

This is, simply put, an awesome restaurant that is well worth the trip to Portaria. They make their own bread and they serve it warm, and the food is absolutely amazing. Italian restaurant
Lola & Luna, a charming and intimate eatery, boasts a delightful ambiance that adds to the enjoyment of their exceptional cuisine. This family-owned restaurant offers an impressive menu with an array of delectable options. The staff is not only accommodating and friendly but also provides impeccable service. Their attention to detail ensures a flawless dining experience for every guest. The food itself is nothing short of outstanding, with dishes carefully crafted using high-quality ingredients.
Tucked away in the city, Lola e Luna is a true family affair, where the love for Italian cuisine is as palpable as the aromas wafting from the kitchen. This family-owned gem delivers an authentic Italian dining experience that makes you feel like you’re dining in the heart of Bologna. We dined there as a party of six, celebrating my father's birthday, and we sampled a range of dishes. Each plate was a masterpiece, clearly crafted with recipes passed down through generations. The ingredients were fresh, the flavors were bold, and the passion behind the cooking was undeniable. The service mirrored the food—warm, welcoming, and unmistakably familial. It felt less like dining out and more like being invited to a family feast. Even the desserts, particularly the ethereal tiramisu made with imported ingredients straight from Italy, left us swooning. The only surprise of the evening was the bill. Given the exceptional quality of the food, the prices were shockingly reasonable—almost too good to be true. Lola e Luna is a reminder that true culinary excellence doesn’t have to break the bank; sometimes, it’s simply about a family doing what they love, and doing it extraordinarily well.

One of the best meals we have had in all of Greece (we have travelled all over Greece from Sydney Australia) we didn’t take photos (we forgot) because we were blown away by how delicious the meals were. Not only were they fantastic, but very affordable. Such fantastic value! Wonderful friendly service from some beautiful Italian owners. We also really appreciated that there was no smoking inside the restaurant (patrons can smoke outside) Highly recommend and will be back next time we are in Greece.

Anavros Park

4.4

City park
Anavros Park, located behind Agios Konstantinos and stretching all the way to Anavros beach, offers a serene escape with its open municipal strand and clear waters for swimming. The park's coastal location provides an unobstructed view of the sea, creating a soothing backdrop for relaxation. While the seating arrangements could be improved to fully capitalize on the scenic surroundings, visitors can still immerse themselves in natural beauty and coastal serenity.
Nestled beside the captivating seascape, the park offers a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in both natural beauty and coastal serenity. The unobstructed view of the sea is a remarkable highlight, providing a soothing backdrop for relaxation. However, the park's infrastructure could benefit from more thoughtfulness, as the seating arrangements lack optimal placement to fully capitalize on the scenic surroundings. Additionally, the absence of beach access or designated water-related activities seems like a missed opportunity to fully embrace the maritime setting. Including amenities like outdoor showers and picnic areas would make the park more functional and inviting. While the proximity to the sea is a clear advantage, refining the park's layout and incorporating beach-related features would enhance its allure and offer a more comprehensive seaside experience.

Nice park to walk or just sit and look out over the water.
Benjamin H — Google review
A relatively beautiful park next to the sea and just a few minutes away from the city center. In the area you can find some art pieces scattered around the area. There is also a representation of a Neolithic settlement that you consider an extension of the adjacent Museum. Finally, the view towards the sea and towards the neighboring areas in Volos is quite impressive. Unfortunately, there is a lot of garbage, dirt in general, but also poorly written slogans and graffiti that give a general feeling of dirtiness. Although it could be one of the 'jewel' spots of Volos, the Municipality and the visitors still have a lot of work to do in this direction, mainly in terms of cleanliness but also the general architecture of the area (better use of greenery and more, better facilities for visitors).

The Volos Museum of the City is a hidden gem that offers a fabulous and well-curated exhibition covering the modern history of Volos. It delves into various aspects such as arts, industry, economy, government, and infrastructure while showcasing personal stories and belongings of notable residents. The museum staff are informative and provide great service to visitors. Additionally, the museum utilizes modern technology in its presentations.
We've visited the museum together with our 8 year old kid. Really interesting to see objects from the day-to-day life of people living 50-100 years ago. It was a short but enlightening experience. Also the entrance is free, which was a very nice surprise for us.

An interesting useum. on the small size but it provides a very good understanding of the city of Volos. Sad to see that the city is nowhere near what it used to be. What was weird was that they had several books but was not cashear to sell them....
Neophytos S — Google review
The Volos City Museum has a lot to see on three floors. It gives you a clear idea of how people lived. Jewelry, tombs, many photos and advertisements from different eras. Happy and sad stories, from weddings to earthquakes, all under one roof. I get the feeling that the locals are almost unaware of their city museum. Highly recommended, as is the entire city.

Great place to visit to learn about this city. Played an important part of history and the museum captures the lives of it’s residents. And free!

Ancient Theater of Demetrias

Historical landmark
Nestled along the stunning coast, the Ancient Theater of Demetrias is a hidden gem that whispers tales of its glorious past. Founded around 300 BC by Demetrius Poliorcetes, this small yet historically significant theater lies just southwest of Volos Port and near the ancient Palace. Despite enduring changes over centuries, it retains an enchanting aura that captivates visitors. While not a bustling tourist hotspot, its serene beauty and rich history make it worth exploring.
Marvellous place full of history. It should be more highlighted as it desserve it
Roberto I — Google review
The ancient theater of Demetriasis a small theater, with great historical value, situated 2 km southwest of Volos Port and 800 m west to the ancient Palace of Demetrias. The theater was built simultaneously with the foundation of the city of Demetrias, by the Macedonian king Demetrias Poliorcetes, in 294-292 BC, opposite to the Palace of the Macedonian Kings and below the hill on which stood the Heroon of the Archegetes. Later on, during the Roman period, it was renovated and finally, was abandoned at the mid-4th century AD. The site is fenced and is still under excavations, so it is usually closed to visitors and can be viewed just beyond the fence. In conclusion: a site with high tourism potential, but still requires a lot of renovation and restoration work to bring it back to its glory.

Sunday evening, 30th of December with beautiful weather, we walked from the center of Volos to this magical place. A bonus reward for our 3 hour hike. Having a cofee looking out of the window to the sunset sky. Friendly staff welcoming us, offering us a nice warm drink, relaxing at the window overlooking the city and the gulf. Beautiful. This is a fairly new museum that opened in 2018 and it has a hugely important and valuable collection of Christian religious artifacts that were scattered and abandoned in various churches that were derelict all around the area. The district of Magnesia were mount Pelion and the village of Macrynitsa is located, had closed ties with the west because of the port in the city of Volos. This close ties influenced the locals and that affected art as well so artists like painters where heavily influenced from the west painting techniques and that shows at the amazing and unique paintings that are so different to the traditional Byzantine technique. The museum has a great collection of religious regalia and paraphernalia as well. Don’t skip on this stunning museum during your visit in Makrynitsa, the work that has been done is awesome and it so worths a visit regardless of your religious beliefs.

Cardamo OINOMAGEIREIO offers exceptional traditional Greek dishes with a variety of local recipes. The beef cheek with orzo, hilopites with beef and mushroom, and mushrooms and halloumi cheese with tomato marmalade are highly recommended. The service is fast and the staff is very kind. In addition to the delicious food, the restaurant provides beautiful views from its tables, making it a must-visit in Pelion.
Perfect dinner here! Perfect oven cooked goat in lemon sauce, giant beans and greens (can’t remember the names) & dry red wine. All were delicious and service was friendly and professional and the food was very reasonably priced :)

The restaurant is located in Makrinitsa square and has a great view of Volos and Portaria, as well as the picturesque village itself. A little expensive, but their traditional food deserves it, it is very delicious (and in good portions)! Service can get a little slow on busy days, but nothing too bad.

Kardamo serves some of the tastiest food in all of Pelion. The place is always buzzing, so booking ahead is essential — but it’s absolutely worth it. The dishes are consistently excellent, and there are enough vegetarian and vegan options to make everyone happy. A true must-visit spot for anyone exploring the area.

Traditional Italian Trattoria with variety of pasta and pizza choices. Very cozy. We loved the carbonara. Aglio e oglio was nice but the pecorino didn’t match much. Will try next time without the cheese. 🧀 would definitely visit again

The pizza was amazing!! The pasta options on the menu, most of them had cream. Which is crazy weird for an Italian restaurant. So, an Italian restaurant with non Italian pasta. And the staff looked like they were forced to be there. Not a smile. Angry looking people.

Positive side - The salads were very fresh and well done. Its a nice place with a good vibe. Negative side - dont sit on the benches if you are not 16 years old.... For a long dinner, it will just "kill" your back... The spaghetti was too salty for most of us and the pizza was good but not more than that.

Day 4

East side of town
For day 4, we recommend exploring the east side side of town. Start the day off with Anes Ferries Agency Volos, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Agiou Konstantinou. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Anes Ferries Agency Volos provides a convenient way to travel between the Sporades islands and Volos. The ferry service is operated by Hellenic Seaways, Anes Ferries, and Aegean Flying Dolphins, offering various options for island hopping and exploring the beautiful region.
0 stars if i could. Booked ferry tickets Skiathos-Volos online month in advanced to find out at the port in the morning at 730 that the 8am ferry was cancelled without any communication from them. Had to pay more money for a new ferry. Worst customer service, avoid them.

They publish ferries that they are not operating( Like PROTHEUS from Volos to Skopelos not operating from April to Sept 2023) . Given the situation they only send notofications one day prior the ferry about the cancellation. If you want your money blocked in their accounts make reservations with Anes. A shame for tourism industry.

We waited for our ferry to Skaithos for 5 hours. We stood on concrete in scorching sun half a day. Staff wasn't intrested in telling us about the cause of delay or how much longer we would wait. We know that day before there were some problems with ferry so they told the passengers to come next day. The day we departured problems still weren't fixed. I give 2 stars only for free sandwiches and drinks the gave passengers becouse of the delay. If you're not intrested in spending your vacation in port, you should choose another company.

Cosmin E — Google review
Volos-Skopelos-Volos: Firstly, they spend a lot of unnecessary time boarding the ship in Volos. They are 10 people running around doing a one-man-job, have absolutely no system and is doing everything the most difficult way. Also, there is only one person checking tickets, when probably 6-7 just are watching. Then the luggage is just put in a huge pile which makes a huge mess when we are leaving the shop and people are digging after their own luggage. Also, the crew closed the toilets on one of the trips saying it was out of order, when they just didn’t mind emptying it. 4 hours without peeing is not ok. Lastly, the ferry was more than 30 minutes late due to the ineffective crew during the stops, so we lost the train and are stuck in Volos for 4 more hours. VERY bad service, very high price. I do NOT recommend anyone taking this trip unless they want to pay for something they do not get. I will tell everyone I know about this experience, and make sure no one puts their holiday in the hands of this agency, because it will be a huge disappointment.
Ingeborg V — Google review
The route skiathos-volos in 15.06.2023 at 8:00 in the morning was canceled. I understand that there were mechanical issues with the ferry but they canceled trip without noticing the passengers

Ferry was delayed for about 5 hours. Everytime we asked for departure time, staff said that its only few minutes. Not to mention that we came to ferry terminal 1,5h before the departure like it was said on the ticket. We just waited in burning Sun for 5h. No one gave us any water or anything. I rate 2 stars only because after boarding the ferry staff didnt charge passangers for drinks and snacks for some period of time.

Goody's Burger House offers a delicious and satisfying meal with their carbonara, Philadelphia, and chicken nugget combination. The dishes are truly enjoyable, especially considering the affordable price of only 4.90 for a generous portion of spaghetti. This represents exceptional value for money without compromising on quality. As a fast food restaurant similar to McDonald's but even better in terms of burger taste, Goody's Burger House provides a unique burger packet for extra convenience.
Surprised by the fresh meat in the burger. Nice atmosphere and very real and reasonable people who work there. The whole meal would be perfect if we didn't have to eat it within clouds of smoke coming from smokers all over the neighbourhood. But I understand that it is not Goodys problem

Vegan burger was ok but very small, fries were huge tho 😁 Green burger was ok, nothing special
Tedi J — Google review
The food is terrible. You get small burger with a lot of fries. The meat in the burger was dry and it looked like it was just warmed up. Also wouldn’t recommend mozzarella sticks, they are tasteless as the burgers too. The only good thing here is cocacola from the can and the sea view. And very expensive for this kind of food.

The waiting time was 20 minutes only which was fair until we saw the food. We ordered 3 burgers and a club sandwich. The burgers and the club sandwich were really small for it's price. We left still hungry and with empty pockets.

Krítamo, a cozy family taverna in Volos, offers an outstanding dining experience. The friendly and hospitable staff creates a warm atmosphere while serving delectable dishes of the highest quality. The menu boasts a variety of fresh options, all expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. From the Ouzo and meze to the Anchovy and Tuna with Kritamo, every bite is a delight.
My wife and I recently had the pleasure of dining at here in Volos during our honeymoon, and it was an unforgettable experience. The food was undoubtedly the most delicious we’ve ever had, showcasing authentic flavors and exceptional quality. The friendly and attentive staff made us feel incredibly welcome and valued, adding to the warmth of the evening. To top it off, the prices were exceptionally reasonable, making it an outstanding value for such high-quality dining. We can't recommend this place enough and will cherish the memory of our meal here. Thank you to the entire team for making our special occasion even more memorable!
Alon O — Google review
To be honest, in the three weeks we've been in Volos, we haven't had a bad tsipouradiko experience yet. But Kritamo may have been our favorite so far. A nice quiet place on a side street near the city center. The seafood is fresh and delicious and well-presented, the portions are ideal, and the service is friendly. Kritamo is where we first tasted the magical σκουμπρί that friends who have visited Volos rave about. That alone made our visit memorable!

This place is a hidden gem in the little commercial streets in Vollos. The food was so delicious and exactly what i was looking for small plates of great seafood. Well paired with wine and toasted bread. The prices are reasonable and generous portions. My fav dish was the crispy calamari with a splash of lemon 🦑
Sutharee W — Google review
This was our FAVORITE dining experience in Greece during our honeymoon. A tsipouradiko is the way to go! Since my husband doesn't drink and I am small, they gave us more plates than my two glasses of tsipouro merited, so I appreciate their generosity. The food was absolutely excellent, the service friendly, and the experience memorable. I will be back if I'm ever in Volos! Πολύ νόστιμο, εκπληκτικά, δέκα αστέρια! Ευχαριστούμε πολύ!

Family taverna, always with something fresh cooked. There is a very good choice to have a late lunch after leaving Mylopotamos beach. Fast serving and nice staff, you could find there 1 or 2 dishes of the day, food that you will not find in other places. Until next time, stay safe!
Ruxandra C — Google review
The food was tasty, and my favorite was the potato salad. It was quite hot outside with only a few weak fans, and the place was very busy. A couple of our orders had hiccups—two octopus dishes came with noticeably different portion sizes but for the same price, grilled calamari was no longer available after we ordered, and a meze arrived missing beans because they’d run out. We also ordered sea bream, but later learned there were none left. Still, everything we did get was fresh and flavorful. The staff was friendly

Mezen is a charming destination with a variety of dining options. The city offers gourmet sandwiches with Greek cheeses and cold cuts, as well as excellent cheesecake with organic jam at Climax. For well-roasted meats, the historic barbecue house of Adamou is a must-visit. Zen is known for its raki, ouzo, and outstanding seafood dishes, while Vosporos stands out as one of the best traditional restaurants in the city.
A little gastronomic gem where I had one of the best culinary experiences I've had in Greece lately. Quality service, tasty food. We served mainly fish and seafood, but also pork. We had 10 different appetizers for a total cost of about 100 euros, which I think is a fair price considering the quality of the food and the unique experience. I highly recommend it and I attach some nice pictures.
S C — Google review
We had 2 recommendations for here by locals, so I was bummed it was such a disappointment. For the area, it is EXPENSIVE and the portions are small. The flavour is what really matters though. Grilled octopus over grilled (read burnt) and over salted. Prawns tasted burnt and were very hard to peel which means they are not that fresh in the cooking world. Not worth the hassle or price. The dish we liked was the fried calamari- but for the price vs. the portion size, go somewhere else. Bread they served is a creative idea but dry. The location feels vibey and the staff were nice, but this place is overhyped. Also, wax paper is NOT NAPKINS.
Miriam M — Google review
Amazing dishes, everything we had was 10/10. Service is a bit all over the place but these guys are super busy, completely understandable. A must go. The crab looked amazing but not the easiest to eat.
D. J — Google review
A great place to experience Greek traditions in a modern setting. The friendly staff will recommend what to order if you are here for the first time. Very tasty food and interesting presentation.
Iryna K — Google review
We visited this restaurant with a group of six after seeing several positive recommendations online. The place is fairly small, though there are some additional tables outside. Overall, the food was delicious, though I found that certain portions—like the tuna—were on the smaller side. Unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. Even after we stacked our empty plates to make things easier for the staff, the waiters simply walked by multiple times without clearing them, despite the restaurant not being particularly busy at the time. Since we had ordered eight dishes in total, the lack of space became an issue. At one point, my uncle even had to fetch clean plates himself. In summary, the food is great, but the service was disappointing—I’d give it a 6 out of 10. Regardless of this, i still decided to give you a 4-star hoping the service will be better for future clients.

Delicious twist on classic greek dishes. What a fantastic little Tsipouro of Volos. We shared five small plates, one better than the next with the taste of squid wrapped im lamb and grilled. Or tabouleh salad with shrimp bacon. A find down a quiet alley off the church square.

Maybe the best tsipouradiko in Volos. All the plates for tsipouro are really tasteful. The place is small and doesn’t accept reservations. Its better to go there during weekdays instead of the weekend. Prices are a bit higher than the rest of tsipouradika in Volos buy it worths the visit. Totally recommend!
Thanasis B — Google review
Nice place for meze which are prepared in a bit modern way. The squid, the fried manti and the potatoes with cheese were superb, keftedes had a good taste but were a bit dry. That was the only flaw though.

Rail museum
The Thessaly Railway Museum in the city of Argonauts is a well-preserved station that offers a passage through time, showcasing an impressive collection of exhibits from the operation of the railways in central Greece. The museum provides insight into the history of OSE Volos and features unique displays, making it a must-visit for both locals and visitors. The station itself is beautifully maintained, reminiscent of a bygone era.
Beautiful place.

The museum itself seems a little bit sad, it is free entry but when I went there it was closed due to no station master, the big parts of the show though are the old metre gauge trains that are there, rusting and being soon overgrown by bushes, they could use some visual maintenance.

Nice traditional grill food. The staff was helpful and dish were pretty nice. I would a little bit more authentic greek traditional food, dishes seem quite standard made. A nice choice though at excellent location

Perfect for students, families, or anyone craving a memorable dining experience, The Fat Pea occasionally features live music, making it even more appealing.
Really one of the top choices in Volos for traditional food. You will not find anywhere in the town this equilibrium of quality and price in food. Very friendly service and nice people from the owners to the customers
The K — Google review
The host could not have been more helpful in translating the dishes for us. The small plates were 6 Euros and stacked high. The food was superb. Highly recommend.
Victoria H — Google review
We arrived at the Volos bus station and looked for a nearby place to have dinner. We were happy to have found such a nice local restaurant. The place was not fancy, but the food was delicious. The people were very friendly and welcoming. We had an excellent experience. Great value for money.
Ozlem S — Google review
Went yesterday evening and the place was borded up. Out of business I'd say.
Aaron T — Google review
This is one of the best places in Volos to eat. Tuesday and Thursday live music, top traditional food, and really cheap for the quality of the food. Friendly self service, high alcohol quality too.
Konstantinos S — Google review
Don't be fooled by the look of this place and its location. Our food was delicious and the service was great. They have dishes in a Bain Marie that you can mix on either a small plate or a large plate. 5.5 eu for a small plate was ample. Wine in the fridge which you can put in whatever size decanter you like. Had good background music playing too
Dan R — Google review
Very atmospheric place, with real tasty traditional food. If you searching for an honest alternative traditional food experience definitely you should pass for sure!

Best best best. For students, families, and everyone else! Some days, it has live music. After 9-9.30pm it is mostly full.

La Marimba

Mexican restaurant
La Marimba is the sole Mexican eatery in Greece, presenting a blend of Greek and Mexican cuisine. While some may dub it a Greek-Mexican fusion, the lack of spiciness in their authentic Mexican dishes disappointed certain patrons. Nevertheless, the overall flavors were satisfactory. The establishment boasts an appealing location and has received positive reviews from frequent visitors who have sampled all the offerings without any grievances to note. The service is courteous and efficient, with reasonable prices to boot.
La Marimba has an amazing ambiance, beautifully designed with a fun, lively vibe that makes it perfect for a night out. The drinks were pretty good, and the food was absolutely delicious, easily the highlight of the night. Every dish we tried was full of flavor and clearly made with care. Highly recommended!
Zare M — Google review
Cozy Mexican restaurant located at the east part of Volos. A lot of traditional Mexican dishes with spicy ingredients. You should ask first and then order, to be safe. Also, the garnish in evey plate is repetitve. Prices a bit high but the atmosphere of the place is incomparable. I recommend you order Quesadillas and Chicken a la Carribbean if you want a "mild" experience. If you go for the spicy ones, choose chicken tortillas and tacos.
Kalliopi M — Google review
Super... Wine serving needs some training... Still a nice place with decent food. I was thinking to delete one star as the drink are not word class BUT we need places like those to elevate our cultural diversions... So I update the photos and leave the evaluation as is...updated with 5 stars on food. All OK to our last visit.
Mali F — Google review
This is the only Mexican restaurant in Greece. I would consider this a Greek-Mexican fusion. Authentic Mexican food is spicy, and was disappointed that these dishes were not. Besides that, the flavors were okay. The location is nice.
Francis T — Google review

We enjoyed this place so much. They had live music (rebetiko), a really good quality music. Food is excellent! Good house wine. The best is water that comes up from the mountains.
Nevena P — Google review
We found it overpriced, and only half of us enjoyed their dishes. The atmosphere is lovely and the service very helpful
Eleni V — Google review
Simply a stunning little "platia" location with good food for a decent price! Service was friendly and tried hard to get the food/drinks out in time. Cool vibe under the platan tree with a great view. Only thing is that even though they tried hard, it took really way too long to serve the first drink or at least share the menu, which gave the feeling that we were not seen. It was a busy afternoon though!
Maarten J — Google review
Near Volos, enjoy the outdoors in a hot summer day or night or the indoors for a cozy winter day. Good selection of drinks and a short but great selection of dishes more than enough to enjoy your drinks. Great people also. Recommended!
PsycKoRn — Google review
The place has a stunning view but clearly not recommended for the extreme high prices, comparing with bad quality of food and service
Hubert G — Google review
