When you first walk into the museum you would naturally think it’s relatively old style with high ceilings and outside lighting through skylights and bright lamps that reflect of glass. Also white walls with hessian backings. These days lots of modern museums are dark with close LED lighting focused on the objects. However what you find is something very special. Many of the most important objects - mostly in the Neolithic section - are actually not behind glass at all. That gives the viewer a real close and personal contact with the objects. And the Neolithic objects are quite brilliant. A very important museum to visit.
The Archaeological Museum of Volos pleasantly surprised us. It offers a fascinating collection of tools, jewelry, and everyday objects, dating back as far as 5000 BC. It was truly exciting to see in real life what I used to read about in school textbooks. All the information is provided in both Greek and English, which makes the experience accessible and engaging. We arrived on a Saturday around 11 a.m. and were the only visitors for a while, which gave us the chance to explore everything at our own pace. After about 40 minutes, a school group arrived, which brought a different energy — it was nice to see kids learning about their history. Highly recommended for a calm, meaningful visit!
Nice little museum a bit out of the city centre of Volos. They have three different exhibitions: one detailing the palaeolithic and neolithic findings from Thessaly, one detailing burial customs and steles from ancient Demetrias, and one detailing the history of Volos. They have most signs in English, at least the ones describing the artifacts, but the informational signs in the Volos exhibition are only in Greek. Overall, the museum can be visited in less than an hour, especially in the morning when there are fewer visitors.
Wasn’t expecting the extend of the exhibits. Great pottery collections. Need less than an hour. Building has been maintained inside and outside (garden needs some tlc), aircondition was working so was nice and cool inside. Paid EUR 10 entrance. Seems like entrance increased based on previous Google reviews.
Anyone who loves Greek history and has the opportunity to visit this place is a must visit. There is a lot to see about the history not only of this place but also of the whole of Greece. My recommendation for this historical museum.
Nice little museum. Entrance is 10€. Easy to visit in an hour if you have some time to spare in Volos. Pity that most of the larger informational signs are only in Greek.
I have very mixed feelings about this museum. On the one hand the exhibits are very good with interesting history and artifacts. There is a good amount of information available. It's a small museum but well put together. On the other hand, a lot of the information is only available in Greek. You can download a doc but it only gives an overview of the different exhibitions and a floor plan of the museum, nothing about individual objects. Having said that, I'm not sure that it's fair that non-Greek speakers must pay the same price or even more, and also at 10 Euro (29 Aug 2025), I feel they can really put in a little effort to also have everything in English too. There's supposedly some audio available that you can listen to for some things. But I asked the lady at reception and she said it's not working. Her English was very bad, so she might also have meant it's not available in English. So definitely make sure you take your phone with you and have an internet connection available so you can use Google Translate or a similar app to translate the various exhibit plaques.
The museum contains collections of Greek art. Neolithic objects, ceramics, jewelry etc...

An amazing, peaceful, romantic place. Allows for an easy, easy hiking trail. There is a beautiful flow of water in the stream, small waterfalls, colorful butterflies. We spent a wonderful, shady, pleasant hour there. In short, a wonderful nature experience
A beautiful place to visit but the path is just NOT there! If you feel a little adventurous (hiking over a what used to be a trail that is now destroyed by a flood that happened a couple of years ago), then feel free to visit! It's a pleasure to see but not what I expected. I visited on August 2025 with my wife and 7year old kid. After 45 minutes worth of walking and climbing we managed to get almost to the end but that last 70-100 meters were utterly destroyed so we couldn't finish it and reach the kiosk. Municipality needs to address this very soon to avoid further bad comments and even injured visitors.
We visited this spot in afternoon, with the sun going down. It is indeed majestic, but unfortunately i learned late that the path is partly destroyed by floods - there are still rocks that make a rather fun hike/climb, but the arrows showing the way were rather faded and we didn't risk going to the end of it, since it was getting dark. Hopefully some good people take up the work to repair the damage and make it accessable again. 🙏
Go only if you enjoy ridden down and forgotten paths with bridges only serving as artifacts to be observed and not trodden on. You will be required to do some light climbing to get a better view of the eroded path beneath you. The forest is underwhelming but not as much as the summer-time stream, which is no more than one puddle lazily seeping into the next, I am guessing also due to the number of plastic tubes guiding the water to unknown locations. At the path's top point you will not be able to continue unless you really put some work into an unofficial steep incline, by the looks more meant for actual centaurs than people, only to be met by bulldozers and a construction site (which is not actually constructing anything path related or repairing the bridges or anything like that). At this point it will be time to arm yourself, the house close by has 2 large shepherd dogs not willing to negotiate. Good luck.
A nice hike in the woods. The way is a bit messed up and not always clear where to go. Would probably recommend going to other hike in the area as there are hundreds of them.
Breathtaking views. Rays of sunlight between 80 shades green.... Little streams, huge rocks, wauw. The dogshad the time of their life.
The trail is very nice within the forest along the river canyon, however was destroyed by water flow so there are some obstacles to cross like broken wood bridges. We were able to make 90% of it with no much efforts (see picture) but stopped very close to the end / road to avoid massive gravel. A pitty that it is not handled by the authorities
It's decrepit now, although it is still gorgeous. The path is also littered with logs from the flooding.

Beautiful local istorical place, very interesting to visit especially with your family and children. Traditional family business that exists for many years and now it is a beautiful museum with clean and green environment. We enjoyed this very much. The ticket price is low and it is totally worth it to see.
Excellent museum, impressive building, kind people working there willing to help and explain in detail everything you ask. The only problem is that we visitedin a how August day and there is no single exhibition space that has air conditioning.
Excellent industrial museum, worth a visit while in town of Volos. It demonstrates the history and technology of a brick and roof tiling plant, with nicely preserved exhibits, videos and facilities.
A visit to this wonderfully designed museum that serves as preservation of our cultural heritage is essential when in Volos. With deeply knowledgeable guides and beautiful exhibits you can learn everything about the brick factory and traditional brick-making techniques.
A surprising museum from the past century that is actual manufacturing of bricks, building blocks, roofing and mining. It shows the real machines and manufacturing lines exactly as it was then along with the working personnel and the family that started the business.
Here you can see and learn a lot of interesting things to buy charming souvenirs. There are several restaurants in the area that offer a pleasant atmosphere and good food.
An amazing museum, like the other museums of the Pireus Group Cultural Foundation. An immersive and absolute amazing experience of the country's industrial past.
Excellent museum. Ideal for schools and/or people you are interested in history of Volos. Nice preserved tiling and brick presses, and drying corridors.

Out of spacetime view. Very friendly service. Beautiful art exhibits. Cats have a thing for the espresso cookie!
Super cozy cafe in one of the best winter (and the rest of the year) destinations in Greece. Try the chocolate souffle and the lemon pie.
Sunday evening, 30th of December with beautiful weather, we walked from the center of Volos to this magical place. A bonus reward for our 3 hour hike. Having a cofee looking out of the window to the sunset sky. Friendly staff welcoming us, offering us a nice warm drink, relaxing at the window overlooking the city and the gulf. Beautiful. For the Geek in me... Being a sporty person, hiking outfit carrying only my phone we paid via Google pay! Making me that extra bit of happy. All the best.
amazing place and very cozy and art
Friendly staff and very delicious sweets. You feel like your home. The flames in fireplace complete the collection of paintings on the walls.
Totally recommend it Friendly staff and the view is priceless. Actually the artwork isn't bad either. Walk up the stairs and feel how they used to live back in the old days.

Beautiful Orthodox church with morning liturgy with wonderful priests and people 💕❤️🙏
Beautiful golden mosaic interior - worth a visit
It’s a very nice cathedral there we met two weddings during one day during our family walk about the city. It has beautiful view outdoors and inside. It is located Next to city park and there are two playgrounds for children of different ages behind this Cathedral.
A very nice spot in Volos next to the park of Agios Konstantinos, with plenty of space around for an open air walk, a wide view to the harbor and a beautiful sunset. There is a playground for children, as well as coffee shops and restaurants

A great cafeteria with an indoor playground for youngsters. The personnel is very friendly and the coffee is great. You can also grab some small plates to eat (burgers, tortillas, and club sandwich) and they also serve alcohol. Kids always have a great time there. Prices are fair. A great alternative for parents when it's cold outside!
Very good indoor and secure place to take your kids to play while someone is looking after them and have coffee at the same time while you enjoy the sea view.
This is the best place for when you want to combine children activities and some coffee or drink with friends. Prices are as usual and service is great.
Good for kids to play whilst adults get a drink and something to read. Indoors or out.
Kids had a great time and adults had our coffee in a nice cosy atmosphere
Great for kids, coffee and food isn't great, but the location makes up for it
Crowded with a rather dirty playground.
A must! Absolutely great!

We rented mtbs from here and it was an awesome experience. Everything was perfect, we received all the necessary information and recommendations and the bicycles were in impeccable condition. The area is gorgeous and it was worth every kilometer. Thank you, Panos, for all the support!
Firstly I have to say that the owner, Panos is a great, relaxed, friendly and outgoing guy. We rented two MTB's from him for a day. The bikes were in perfect shape and really good for our route. The scenery in Pelion is great for this activity and I can't think of a better place to rent than from him. Thank you for providing the means for having a great day. Take in consideration that you have to call at least a day before so he can prepare the bikes for you.
Excellent experience and value! Panagiotis was an attentive guide, made the trip fun and safe. We did two tours in one week! Highly recommended. The bikes and gear were clean and well maintained, and the snacks were good. We saw some pretty amazing places that very few tourists will ever see. Go to Pelion (beautiful part of Greece!) and book a tour with Bike or Hike.
Rented 2 E-bike for the second time. The bikes are very well maintained and the owner Panagiotis is very supportive. Last year we made a guided tour with him, this year we went alone to Agia Ioannis (slept there) and went back to Portaria via Milies, which is quite a long tour (2000 meters up, 1400 down, 63 km). The batteries of the bikes did a very well job!
It was a great experience. Panos is a charming man, patient and above all a true professional. We did a 3-hour trip with teenagers and there wasn't a bad moment. We will definitely come back to him❤️
Excellent Bikes, we had MTBs, repair kit provided, just as well as I had a puncture! Pannos is a Really nice Guy, had good advice on routes up the mountain, a great 2 days🚵‍♀️👍
Great experience in renting a bike in Portaria. The Bike was delivered in time directly to our Hotel, comes with a backpack with maps, accessories, and useful tools. The owner is very kind. The bike was excellent!.
Panos was great, easy and happy to assist. Left nothing to chance, equiped me with all needed for my bike that i rented.

I recommend this museum and tour to every family on Greece trip. They have a large collection of insects from all over the world. We were traveling through Greece on end of October. Called museum day before and scheduled for the tour. We had private tour through museum and insects. Son of the owner was really kind and resourceful.
Very unique and interesting museum! It has a big collection of insects from all over the world and the story of the museum curator is very interesting especially for the kids! The visit must be scheduled earlier,we didn't know that, so we went without our appointment but the curator was very kind and received us without any problems! We recommend everyone to see this unique place especially families with kids :)
Must-visit when in Volos! Absolutely loved our visit to the Volos Entomological Museum! The host was incredibly informative and kind, making the experience even more enjoyable. The collection is both vast and amazing, offering a wealth of knowledge. We learned so many interesting things during our visit. I just cannot recommend this activity enough. It's perfect for couples or families alike. A must-visit when in Volos! Make sure to have an appointment!:) Cheers from Hungary!
Wonderful time spent there! Γιώργος is a fantastic host and guide. Excellent ending of our Volos day trip!
George was amazing, he spent all the time explaining everything to us. You could feel passion coming out of his words. Thanks for the experience!
Unique entomological museum, one of its kind in Greece and one of the largest private collections in Europe! Only about a quarter of collection is exibited, with beautiful butterfly collection and fantastic beetle species from scarab to hercules bug to silk cocoons and wasp nests! The tour offers great insight of world of insects, like mimicry, camouflage and adaptation and evolution, and the greatness of experience surpasses the showroom itself. And the enthusiasm of Dr Koutroumpas is obviously passed to the next generation, the tour was very interesting and fun!
Excellent collection, Dr. Koutroumpas' love for insects is one of a kind. Definitely the highlight of our trip. Book your visit with the founder and enjoy their lecture
It's one of the biggests insects museum in the world and it has a huge variety of insects. So many that they can't even fit in. The man who guided us was very friendly and has great knowledge on the subject. It's a must place to go if you ever visit Volos. The ticket is very cheap.

We've visited the museum together with our 8 year old kid. Really interesting to see objects from the day-to-day life of people living 50-100 years ago. It was a short but enlightening experience. Also the entrance is free, which was a very nice surprise for us.
An interesting useum. on the small size but it provides a very good understanding of the city of Volos. Sad to see that the city is nowhere near what it used to be. What was weird was that they had several books but was not cashear to sell them....
The Volos City Museum has a lot to see on three floors. It gives you a clear idea of how people lived. Jewelry, tombs, many photos and advertisements from different eras. Happy and sad stories, from weddings to earthquakes, all under one roof. I get the feeling that the locals are almost unaware of their city museum. Highly recommended, as is the entire city.
Great place to visit to learn about this city. Played an important part of history and the museum captures the lives of it’s residents. And free!
This is a sweet museum with objects and photographs relating to the history of Volos. While I don’t think the museum will blow your mind, for anyone interested in 20th century history, I definitely recommend visiting. You can comfortably view the museum in 45 mins. It’s free and stays open late, which is very convenient. The lady on the front desk was extremely friendly and welcoming.
Beautifully designed exhibition that tells the story of Volos. Great items on display and interesting data and data visualisations. Highly recommended for a rainy day.
Nice museum to learn about the history of this city.
Very nice free city museum. Went there randomly and ended up learning a lot about local history. Nicely arranged with interesting texts and original documents.

After the devastating floods in the region, the lake has probably doubled in size, swallowing roads, trees, people's lands and anything else in it's path. It's sad and disastrous, yet unique and beautiful in a sense.
Beautiful lake, there were many kind of birds during our visit. More protection of this place is needed.

In recent years, however, due to the effects on the environment and the retreat of the underground water table, a reservoir of 37 thousand acres was built. After the floods of Daniel in September 2023 the area was flooded and the lake became even bigger than in 1962 a total of over 180 thousand acres were flooded which makes Lake Karla the largest lake in Greece even bigger than Trichonida which is 95 thousand acres . (Translated by Google) Lake Karla, or Lake Voivheis (formerly) and in antiquity Voivheis, or Voivias, or Voivie, or Lake Pelasgiotis, is currently probably the largest lake in Greece. It was drained in 1962, and 80,000 acres of arable land were returned. In addition, at that time it caused flooding in the surrounding agricultural crops, while some marshy areas around it caused the intense presence of insects. It is located southeast of Larissa, near the northern slopes of Pelion, on the borders of the Prefectures of Larissa and Magnesia. In recent years, an effort has been made to restore the lake to an area of 37,000 acres. However, after the Daniel floods in 2023, its area increased to approximately 190,000 acres, making it the largest Greek lake. It is worth taking a walk around the lake, where the quiet and sweet scenery calm the mind and body. However, walking is not advisable when the sun is strong, due to the lack of natural shade. Beautiful farm, very well taken care of and very friendly and accommodating staff. We had a lovely time and our son loved playing on the grass with other kids. Very clean and well equipped rooms and excellent farm-to-table restaurant 👌 Highly recommended for families!
A paradise! We missed a small playground or a sand box where kids could spend even more time playing but overall it's a gem in Pelion.
Amazing views, friendly hosts and super cute and pittoresque little farm with farm house. We stayed here for three nights, the hosts were very helpful with tips and the animals were super friendly ! Cherry on top getting fresh eggs every morning ! we will be back 🤍
The lovely place in the heart of Pelion where you can spend an unique day and learn the secrets of Greek kitchen with beautiful Greek family and live the best experience of your life in Greece!! A lot of thanks to Karaiskos family for our baby's birdthay party and we are very happy to visit this beautiful authentic farm again and again!💝💝
We couldnt have asked for better. Everything was perfect and welcoming. Timoleon and Phillip were incredibly friendly and nice. We have learned alot from Timoleon and had a very fun visit. We strongly reccomend the cooking lessons. Also the Farm itself looks amazing, we regretted that we havent rented the room that is offered in the Farm. I wish you guys the best of luck. Greetings from Israel
The place: an amazing farm in the middle of green trees on a slope of mount Pelion! An immaculate farm with organic produce and farm animals which will surprise children and believe me, grownups as well! Paradise!! The food: everything is homemade and local from farm to table! Everything has so much flavor! The pies are to die for as the exceptional filo crust combines perfect with the other ingredients such as green, herbs, cheese etc. We also tried homemade sourdough bread with cream cheese from Skopelos island topped with pastrami, figs and lavender! Wow!!! You can also enjoy more food suggestions but also wine, coffee and other drinks! The prices are perfectly balance given what you get! REAL FOOD and drinks! Thank you so much for everything!
We were lucky enough to be the first couple to stay at the Karaiskos Farmhouse. No words can describe our experience. Heleni and her family are just the perfect hosts!! The place is stunning and peaceful, the food is out of this world, the atmosphere is romantic and peaceful but above all - Heleni and her family are truly the most incredible host in this beautiful country. We can't wait to come back again and sure you will be 100% pleased with your stay here.
My wife and I visited Karaiskos farm in 2019 and we absolutely loved it. The staff are all incredibly friendly and inviting. The farm is charming and the outdoor kitchen is heavenly. We enjoyed the cooking class and plan on returning as soon as possible, given the current COVID-19 situation. We 100% recommend anyone visit this amazing place!
