Shopping mall
Shopping
Clothing store
Electrical supply store
Located in the beautiful city of Pecs, Hungary, Árkád is a massive shopping complex offering a wide range of options for visitors. With over 130 high-quality stores, it's a shopper's paradise with department stores, boutiques, and various services. The complex also features casual dining options where you can treat yourself to unique flavors of gelato at Gelati.
It's a good small mall but it gets hot during summers
Samri A — Google review
I am extremely disappointed with Arkad Mall in Pécs. It’s shocking that a shopping center of this size and reputation doesn’t offer even a single charging station or power outlet for customers to use. In today’s world, where people rely heavily on their phones, this is a basic facility that every modern mall should provide. It’s frustrating and inconvenient to spend time here and not have access to something so simple and essential. This lack of thoughtfulness towards customers’ needs is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the management. I sincerely hope they address this issue soon, as it’s a major flaw for such a large shopping center.
Roja S — Google review
Shameful, today I went to the toilet with my 4 year old son, which costs 200 forints per person. My son can't go to the toilet by himself, so I went with him, I explained this to the cleaners at the entrance. They called security and at the exit from the toilet I was met by 2 security guards and made me pay for the toilet too. I tried to explain to them that I was just a parent looking after my child and that I didn't use the toilet, because my son is not able to go to the toilet by himself, they were not understanding and shamefully made me pay for another entrance to the toilet
Josip M — Google review
Beware motorcyclists! We are NOT welcome in Arkad! We were asked to leave the gated Arkad parking lot after YEARS of visiting and paying for the parking spot and not even using a single parking spot (there's plenty of places where you can park your motorcycle next to a wall completely safely and without it being in the way of anyone or anything). No reason was given other then... "it's the rules". Completely idiotic decision by Arkad menagement.
Dalibor B — Google review
The best and biggest mall in Pécs. It has diversity of shops, services, and things to try. You will find almost everything you need there. There is inter-spar supermarket in the ground floor if you need some groceries.

Market
The new Market is located in the heart of Pécs. Just on the opposite side of the old building. Also close to the local and the national link coach stations. Friendly and helpful people, very good atmosphere! Clean, organised stalls, food stalls. From the very cheap to the moderate prices. Local farmer's goods... Fruits, vegetables, meat... Pickles. Amazing architecture, modern with a hint of classical style. Colourful and stylish! Must have a visit!

Loads of fresh fruit n vegetables cheaper than supermarket
Steven D — Google review
The new “old “ market in Pécs. The architecture is beautifully integrated with local style. New building, cleaner and well structure. Really lively, lovely and enjoyable to shop here
Junita A — Google review
Here you can find fresh vegetables and fruits with prices cheaper than other markets. It would help if you can speak some basic Hungarian words and you should definitely have cash money on you. The previous market building stopped operating by (11 Jun 2022), when the new well-designed building just nearby started operating instead. The new building has an impressive architectural design. It imitates the space of the Roman market with the abstract basilica design for its main hall. The main hall is visually separated from the othe parts by using only 2 paint colors (white and gray). The big arched glazed facade is facing north direction so it doesn't allow extra brightness or overheating because the hall is not exposed to direct sunlight.
Modar A — Google review
The place where you can buy fresh produce, meats and plants also. It’s located next the Main Bus Station
Piroska K — Google review
Looks very nice. The building is brand new replacing the old market. You can buy everything and almost anything from home growers and everything taste delicious. Large selection of hot and cold foods also what makes this place one of the best place to eat in Pecs(at least for me) I recommend any of the food or bakery to anyone visiting. Will miss the food from the once back in the UK

Blöff Bisztro is a popular spot in the city with a relaxed atmosphere and professional service. The menu features Balkan grill dishes like csevap and pljeskavica, as well as whole roasted Adriatic sea fish, octopus, and squid. They also offer various stuffed homemade flatbreads.
We enjoyed every moment here. From the food to wine and service. There is seating indoors and outdoors. We opted to sit outdoors. A beautiful terrace over looking the national theatre and fountains. All food was delicious, and well cooked. Excellent choices of wine. Superb service. Highly recommend!

I had the pleasure of dining at Blöff Bisztró, and it was easily one of the highlights of my stay. The setting is relaxed yet stylish, perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout. I ordered the Orada (grilled sea bream), and it exceeded my expectations. The fish was fresh, beautifully grilled, and topped with a vibrant green herb sauce that brought the dish to life. It was served with fresh, crusty bread and a simple side of greens and lemon — clean, balanced, and satisfying. The plate was beautifully presented and full of flavor. If you’re looking for a delicious seafood experience in a cozy, welcoming spot, I highly recommend Blöff Bisztró. I’ll definitely be back!

Just stay in this beautiful city for one night and I’m so grateful to find this restaurant with good food, good vibe and friendly staffs. The beef cheek is so nice that I wanted to order again. The squid is also fresh and nice.

Without a doubt the nicest place I’ve eaten in my visit to Hungary. In fact, it was nicer than many meals I’ve had outside of it. The meat was very well cooked and the flavours worked really well. Nice views…small suggestion though, for anyone with sensory issues, maybe don’t sit near the door outside because anyone who steps onto it will shake your chair (every time).

Overall an experience as expected, not better, not worse. Location and atmosphere was nice, food was ok. End of duck breast was too fatty and could have been overall more crispy. The knife wasn't a steak knife, so it was quite difficult to cut the breasts. Shrimp was fine(ish), had better garlic shrimp before. Personally, felt too oily. Perhaps the best meal was "Vadas". Very tender meat and nice overall harmony of flavours. Service forgot to supply fork and needed to ask, but they provided one promptly. It was quite difficult to find the menu online as the link here directs to a non-existent website (paholyetterem.hu), the functional one is paholypecs.hu

Széchenyi Square is a bustling piazza in the heart of Pecs city center, adorned with charming cafes, statues, and surrounded by significant landmarks. The square was revitalized for Pecs' stint as European Capital of Culture in 2010 and serves as a focal point for various events throughout the year.
Széchenyi Square (Széchenyi tér) in Pécs is the vibrant heart of the city, offering a perfect blend of history, culture, and modern life. Surrounded by stunning historical buildings and adorned with the iconic equestrian statue of János Hunyadi, the square exudes charm and elegance. The beautifully preserved Ottoman-era Gázi Kászim Pasha Mosque, now the Downtown Candlemas Church, adds a unique historical touch. Lined with cozy cafes, shops, and cultural landmarks, Széchenyi tér is a lively meeting point for locals and visitors alike. Its spacious design and picturesque setting make it an ideal place to relax, enjoy events, or simply soak in the beauty of Pécs.
Roja S — Google review
Széchenyi Square is hands down one of my favorite spots in Pécs. It’s got everything—history, chill vibes, and that gorgeous old mosque-turned-church right in the middle. The whole square is lined with cafés and cool buildings, and there's always something interesting going on. I happened to visit during Zsolnay Fényfesztivál, and it totally brought the place to life! Live music, food stalls, people dancing—it felt like the whole city came out to celebrate. The atmosphere was electric but still cozy enough to relax with a coffee and people-watch. At night, the lights and the buzz made it even more magical. If you're ever in Pécs, make sure to swing by the square—especially if there's a festival happening. It’s an experience you won’t forget!

This square is simply the most beautiful and essential part of Pécs. It's not just historical; it's where you truly feel the city's pulse. It's dominated by the incredible Candlemas Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the impressive City Hall, which gives the square its grand, historical focal point. The square is lined with lovely cafés and restaurants, making it the perfect spot for relaxing and people-watching.

This is a wonderful place to attend Mass, offering a peaceful and reverent atmosphere. The church itself is absolutely beautiful, with stunning architecture and intricate details that inspire a sense of awe and reflection. Whether you're a regular churchgoer or a visitor, it's a spiritually uplifting experience in a truly remarkable setting.

We didn’t go inside Pécs Cathedral, but even just walking around the outside was pretty awesome. The architecture is stunning—massive, elegant, and full of history. You can feel how old and important the place is just from the vibe it gives off. What really made the visit cool was exploring the ruins nearby. They’re tucked around the cathedral and give you this real sense of ancient layers—like you’re walking through different parts of history. Super atmospheric. Great photo ops, too. Definitely worth stopping by, even if you're not doing the full tour. Makes you want to come back and explore more next time!

The need for palinka outweigh the need for service. But if you enjoy a staff talking at the bar, not knowing who works there or who's their friends, then this place is the best. And if you want to feel that you annoy them by even stepping in the door the go for it.

The food was extremely disappointing after a long waiting time . The Chicken asparagus looked and tasted like it was homemade with low quality products, won’t recommend to eat here. The view to the Pécsi National theater is nice though.

Waitresses unpleasant from the first moment and unwilling to work. The bar was supposed to be open until 1:00 in the morning, and an hour and a half before that, they refused to make us a second drink. Nevertheless, the other table still got a drink. It’s sort of okay when you eat there the first time and starts tasting bad after the second time. It’s quite attractive especially if you are new to Pécsi. It’s not bad to try it, but I bet you probably won’t keep it consistent. There are times that the rice isn’t really well cooked. the whole city and restaurant is beautiful. bit ancient but gorgeous, has a captivating appearance, style. +the restaurant is spacious enough, there are huge tables you can bring family/friends with yourself and you have space to sit comfotably enough. +there are many kind of dishes and drinks you can choose from, not that expensive, but quality has never been free! everything was perfectly made, tasty, juicy, soft etc. +people working there are so nice and helpful, elegant, they all know what they do. they are perfect waiters. +we've had time to keep a private, solid birthday there, and have been there for 4hrs which is a nice memory. the temperature was perfect, cozy lights, gives an exact Italien vibe! i loved it💯

First of all, very expensive for no reason. Service price is included which is terribly expensive too, 4k for two people. The place is okay, food not big enough, one plate of pasta is 6k. I would call it a tourist trap/ attraction. Service is very slow, we had to wait 45 minutes for two plates of pasta. Waiters are a bit moody too. Shame that in the heart of Pécs we have such a restaurant. And a bottle of wine is waaaaay overpriced. Would not recommend! Oh! And before i forget to mention, one of the waiters made a couple sit next to a family.. Organization of inside is a bit unorganized. Waiters are aloof to the situation.

We were travelling from Szeged and came to this restaurant. The pizza recommended by the waiter was awesome! And the pasta was perfectly cooked al dente with lots of seafood toppings. You can’t get this quality pasta in Szeged. Absolutely loved it! The waiters were all super nice.

I eat there usually, the food is very good, especially their pizza, it's italian quality and remind me of real italian pizza. But there is a huge problem with the service. (Its not uncommon in Hungary.) They dont greet back, don't treat us well. Felt uncomfortable there, and the atmosphere was frozen and quite. Quite like you can't speak because everyone would hear it. Go there at summer, when the terrace is open, it has a great feeling in the heart of Pécs!

Very tasty vegan dishes and good portions at a pretty nice spot in the center of Pécs. Can only recommend the restaurant. The only small problem was the speed of taking and preparing our orders, we waited over an hour. Was starving by the end.

Among the best lunch places! I tasted the lunch menu on weekdays and a plate from the menu at the weekend – both excellent! I like how the LYR serves their teas. Will definitely come back for another mug 🍵

So good! You will definitely not leave this place hungry! An absolutely fantastic price for the daily special menu (2,490 forint/£5.66 for both soup and main course. Today the offer was roasted beetroot soup, followed by tomato/pesto/parmesan pasta). Food portions are very generous, and both courses were totally delicious. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, the staff friendly. I can't recommend LYR highly enough. Thank you ❤️

I had both lunch and dinner here. The best vegan food I ever had in a restaurant. Also the beer was good. The only think that could be improved is the coffee; I did not like it. Overall, really good for meals

Observation Decks & Towers
The Pécs TV Tower, standing at 197 meters high atop the 535-meter Misina, has been in operation since 1973. Apart from its broadcasting responsibilities, it boasts an observation deck offering panoramic views of Pécs and its surroundings. On clear days, visitors can admire the Villanyi Mountains and even catch a glimpse of Croatian Papuk Hill or Badacsony. At night, the tower is illuminated with vibrant colors.
Very nice view, great for pictures and videos. You can see whole city from up there. It is 3.5€ per person(student price, 1€ more normally) to go up there 80 meters high. Restaurant available on the tower was full. Many parking spaces, cafe bar and ice cream available.
Matija B — Google review
View was nice, 360 degrees and open. 1590ft per person. There's a lookout point below that's free that has a nice view too. There are some hikes in the area, so there are some other things to do too.
Angela A — Google review
The Pécs TV Tower is a must-visit! The views from the observation deck are absolutely breathtaking—you can see all of Pécs and even distant mountains on a clear day. There's also a café where you can relax and enjoy the scenery. Great spot for photos. Totally worth the trip up the hill!
Yang E — Google review
I expected more. You can't go up without an elevator operated by a girl who works at the entrance, and her workplace looks like a former toilet to me. The entrance fee is not expensive, but the view is nothing special either. We wanted to sit in the restaurant, but it was too hot and stuffy.
Ivana D — Google review
The Pécs TV Tower is a must-visit for its breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views over the city, the Mecsek Hills, and the distant plains, offering a unique perspective in every direction. Perched high on Misina Peak, it’s the perfect spot to take in the scenery while enjoying a coffee, a glass of wine, or even a meal in the rotating-style restaurant, making the experience as relaxing as it is unforgettable. There is elevator for faster access.
Kaloian T — Google review
Great views of the surrounding area and cool on a hot day. Buy a ticket from the office downstairs then use the lift (there is a lift attendant) to go up. There is no information once you are up there, like which direction lake Balaton is in or what the various building are in the town. You have to use the lift both to get up and down.
Jo E — Google review
Visit this place every year. Great place to see the whole Pecs city. There is a restaurant and above a terrace to see the magnificent view. On a clear day you can easily see over to Croatia and to give you a little secret what they dont tell you: if you go up in the evening and look over towards the city at the furthes point you should be able to see the street lights writing PECS across the town. Amazing.

Pécs Zoo, located in the southern part of Pecs, Hungary, is a popular attraction offering a diverse range of animal species from around the world. The hilltop facility features animal exhibits, a petting zoo, an aquarium, and a park showcasing local plants. Visitors can observe majestic creatures like lions, tigers, and leopards up close. The zoo is well-organized and clean with friendly English-speaking staff.
The price seemed a bit high, but worth every cent! Beautifully organized and clean, lots of animals. The zoo is integrated into the mountain.

Nice zoo, big selection of animals and close encounter with animals, located on the hillside, so as you go through the zoo you're going up the hill, might be demanding for people with baby strollers or people with disabilites. Parking is free, but it's unmarked on the side of the road, before and after the zoo entrance. Zoo map is paid extra 300ft.

Beautiful zoo, around 1 hour of watching interesting animals like zebras, monkeys, hippos etc. While driving to the zoo there is a stunning view on Pecs! Would recommend to everyone.

Tettye Ruins

Historical place
Tettye Ruin Garden, located in the picturesque city of Pecs, Hungary, is a captivating blend of history and natural beauty. Nestled on the slopes of Misina Hill, this historic site offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city below. Once a grand palace, it now showcases ancient ruins surrounded by lush vineyards that evoke the Renaissance era.
These ruins are located at the entrance to the world's smallest botanical garden. There's ice cream here behind locked bars... And a cave I think as well. Lots of grass and trees and green stuff with a nice shade in the summer. If you like old rocks and grass it's definitely a hit! Sort of a nice view over pecs but the view is better from places close by.

Nice place to hang out, there is a nice view, but because of the complex geography of the hillside, just a small portion of the city can be seen. Some spots on the way to Tettye offer a slightly better view. The Havihegyi church, another nice landmark in the area, is just a short walk from here.

Museums
The Victor Vasarely Museum, located in Pecs, Hungary, is a classic building that has been open since 1976. It houses the world's largest collection of the renowned Hungarian-French artist's op-art creations, featuring over 400 pieces. The museum showcases symmetrical and largely abstract works with clever illuminations that intensify the 3D experience. While there have been debates about visual distortion, the well-curated selection offers an evocative and eye-bending experience.
A wonderful experience and absolutely worth visiting! The staff are incredibly kind and helpful, making the visit even more enjoyable. The exhibition itself is excellent, thoughtfully curated, and very engaging. The ticket price is 2500 HUF, with an additional photo fee of 300 HUF, which is definitely reasonable for such a memorable visit. Highly recommend it!
Irena P — Google review
Visited this museum (20.02.25) after being introduced to Victor Vasarely’s work in a County Art teacher’s training session… by luck, it just so happens I was visiting Budapest shortly afterwards, so got to see his wonderful artwork up close. What a wonderful gallery (museum). Fairly modest in size but packed with so many beautiful paintings, sketches and collages of Vasarely’s work, from his flat geometric work to his incredible op art. The colours, the precision and the patience are truly awe-inspiring. The staff were helpful and friendly as the ambiance was calm and serene. Other modern artists were also featured which complemented the style of Vasarely so well and you can see his clear influence. The curator asked where I came from (England) and commented on the fact they only seem to get French or English other than Hungarians… so I just want to spread the word further… to all nationalities, if you are in Budapest , love abstract geometric art and op art the Victor Vasarely Museum is the place to go.
Jill C — Google review
This is a place which is worth visiting, at least I still remember the first time 30 or more years ago. Even the kids love it. Well maintained, cosy small museum with these great pieces of art. Even the gate of the front yard is nice.
Gergely L — Google review
Fantastic collection on abstract and space/shape explorer Victor Vasarely, lover of optical illusions, colour explorations and textile craft. Museum is nicely planned with a sort of chronological order so to appreciate the evolution in his vision. It doesn't overwhelm you with countless rooms, and you can focus on just what's necessary on every wall. If you enjoy themes of colour, shape and abstract scenery and reflect on their nature, this is a place for you to explore. There's a small shop where you can buy postcards, magnets, small crafts and some more. Staff is friendly and helpful!
Francesco S — Google review
A good spot to loosen up and relieve tension. Vasarely’s artwork is pleasing in my eyes and super satisfying to see! Great collection and has a cozy vibe. The Museum also sells merchandise (like masks, shirts, etc.) with Vasarely’s pieces in it and it's beautiful. If you decide to go here, the Museum offers different prices (for students it is discounted) and they will offer you an extra fee if you want to take pictures of the artwork.
Alice P — Google review
I liked very much the work specially of Claire Vasarely
Irayetzin H — Google review
The museum, dedicated to the work of Victor Vasarely, the founder of Op-Art, costs about €6, with an additional small fee for taking photos, bringing my total to around €7.50. It presents an extensive collection of his works, known for their geometric shapes and optical effects. The museum itself is very exciting if you enjoy this type of art. I took many pictures and really liked it. Depending on how busy it is, you might have the rooms to yourself. It was quiet when I visited, but there was a small line at the ticket counter when I left. I was there around 4:30 PM and spent about 30 to 45 minutes in the museum. A fascinating visit for those interested in modern art and optical illusions.

The glory years of this restaurant are long gone. The place is in the style of the 1990s. The staff speak no languages other than Hungarian and are rather unhelpful (maybe also frustrated). The food is quite good but far from high quality. The restaurant resembles a very decent staff canteen where you can eat but without delight.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful dining experience in Pecs, look no further than Phoenix Pizzeria. This charming eatery strikes the perfect balance between casual and cozy, offering a menu primarily focused on pizzas and pastas that cater to both Italian traditions and local Hungarian flavors. While it’s conveniently located without being overly crowded, you’ll find that ordering at the bar is part of the unique charm here.
They make excellent pizzas, great flavour and perfect crust. The drinks are also delicious. I always thoroughly enjoy my meal here.

For foreigners: this is one of the best casual restaurants you can go to. They feature pizza and pastas mainly on their menu. The pros: they are central enough, but not too overcrowded as other bigger restaurants. Their dishes are semi-authentic pastas (Italian), fit with Hungarian tastes. Cons: menus are ordered and paid at the bar, and also some of the younger staff are untrained. What you want to do here is order a caesar pizza and some aperols.

For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Zsolnay Mausoleum. Not quite as popular as Zsolnay Cultural Quarter, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

The Zsolnay Cultural Quarter is a former 19th-century ceramic factory transformed into a vibrant hub of art galleries, music venues, and cafes. Visitors can start their afternoon at the Littke Sparkling Wine Houses visitor center before immersing themselves in the rich cultural offerings of the quarter. The area also houses permanent exhibitions showcasing the heritage of Vilmos Zsolnay, including displays on the history of the Zsolnay family and the renowned Pink exhibition.
Lovely spot to wander and soak up the cultural area. We were only able to visit on a Sunday, the galleries were open but all the shops were closed. I think one if the cafes was open but we didn’t visit. We went to the skateboard/street art exhibit. It was quiet, pretty much had the place to ourselves. The staff were helpful. Will visit again when the shops are open and we have more time to spend at the glassworks. Note- you pay for which exhibits you’re interested in seeing, there maybe a ticket for everything but we just stuck to the one as we were short on time.

Was a pleasant walk to the cultural center from the town centre. A really quaint and colourful area with small shops and artisans working on their crafts. Also a planetarium on site. A must see in Pécs.

Breathtaking exhibition. The quarter alone is beautiful.
Juno — Google review
We only went to see the Gyugyi Collection, and it is absolutely beautiful. Definitely worth the visit and the exhibition itself deserves a 5-star rating. The problem is that the cultural complex has no info in English, or any other language, except Hungarian, and that includes info on prices, tickets, as well as directions. The complex is meant for tourists, and they seem to be going out of their way to make tourists feel unwelcome. No matter which exhibition you decide to go to, you should walk through the entire complex, as the buildings and the surroundings there are amazing. However, their service is the opposite :(
Nevena B — Google review
Very cool to visit even if you don't have time to go inside the buildings. Unique style that is a lovely update on Art Deco style. I hear it’s a great events space . Worth a visit or event for sure. Near the center of town.

The Zsolnay Mausoleum is a cultural center dedicated to the renowned ceramics company, showcasing modern art and offering dining options. The mausoleum itself is a stunning burial chamber of the Zsolnay family, featuring exquisite porcelain made with innovative techniques known as "eosin." Visitors recommend exploring the entire cultural center first to understand the history and significance of the mausoleum.

You have to by the ticket when you walk up. I think it’s unnecessary. Nothing special to show. Also, why they give this information after you claimed up to the that hill? Why does Zsolnay family cannot afford to have something like that without extra charge. Not a nice feeling to make a business out of it….

Will H — Google review
This a great plave to visit, but I recommend viewing the entire cultural center first to get the history and background of the mausoleum.
Poppy S — Google review
It's creepy to say, that a burial object is beautiful, but it's a fact, indeed. Based on my convincement, that the porcelain made in the Zsolnay Manufactory is one of the best and the most beautiful in the world, it already assumes high standards. This burial chamber of the Zsolnay family is a testimony of a new techniques called "eosin". It's made from different metals and depending on which metal is dominating this "mixture", it begins to play in its respective colour (green, yellow, silver, red, purple, etc.) when lighted. The sarcophagus of Miklós and Terézia Zsolnay (husband and wife, who established the manufactory) is covered with "eosin". Their sarcophagus is situated in the middle of the basement, while the floor over it has a big circle opening. On the 21st of December each year - when the winter starts - at 11:00 the sunshine is lightning through one of the windows directly on the altar, which reflects different colours of the "eosin" into the basement - it's a unique "light game", which makes this burial chamber even more mysterious. Of course, for this phenomena a clear sky is absolutely necessary (without clouds). After nine years in a row, it was the very first time, we could observe this magnificent "light game" and to realize "the secrets of the "eosin"".

The Kodály Center is a modern architectural marvel designed for optimal acoustics, making it a must-visit for music enthusiasts. The venue hosts various concerts and performances, offering an unparalleled audio experience. It's equipped with state-of-the-art technology and has received praise for its excellent sound quality across different music genres. The center's sleek design and surrounding pond create a pleasant atmosphere for relaxation with family or friends.
A chamber event in the upstairs Művészbejáró. All very friendly and informal, though rather a safari if your legs are not the best. We didn't use the makeshift bar but it was good to see it in action- unlike (for instance) the Művészetek háza in the middle of town. Apart from the commercial aspect, performers and audiences alike often prefer to have an interval, but if there is no buffet there is little point. Having a break long enough to visit the loo and the bar shouldn't be a luxury.

It's a beautiful, excellent sounding, very pleasant concert hall, built for Pécs2010 - European Capital of Culture. The venue is modern, well looking and equipped with the newest technology. Symphonic, acoustic and a capella music sounds more, than perfect, and in recent years the staff managed to make all the other kinds of music also sound much better, than it previously did.

An almost impressive concert hall kinda thing. The architecture was somehow off though, reminding me of the seventies, especially the buffet area. Big, bulky, gruff building. Could be it was just the bad weather, though.

I really liked this center, nice modern Soviet Union style building and the pond near to it. Water in the pond is dirty, but you can see it only from the close look. Branches near to the performance area need to be changed. But generally place is really nice, good for relaxing with family or friends.

Zsolnay Fountain is a significant monument in Pecs, dedicated to Vilmos Zsolnay, the renowned designer of Zsolnay ceramics. Donated by his son in 1908 and designed by Andor Pilch, this fountain is a must-see when visiting the city. It's located on Szechenyi Ter and stands in front of the Catholic church. The fountain is especially captivating during warmer months when it's operational, offering a refreshing oasis for visitors.
coming upon this fountain was like coming upon an oasis in a desert. very much needed water after a failed attempt to eat an entire langosh. very pretty and fun to get water from a dribbling creature!
Cathy D — Google review
Pretty interesting historic landmark. It honours and represents the specific type of marble that the city of Pecs is known for. You can easily spot a lot of souvenirs and products that use it, and it is even included in the ornamenting of the buildings.

The Zsolnay Fountain on the main square in Pécs is a beautiful and extremely significant work of art. Built in 1912 as a memorial to Vilmos Zsolnay, the fountain stands out due to the use of two key inventions from the famous Zsolnay factory: Eosin Glaze: This glaze gives the ceramic a magical, iridescent metallic sheen that changes with the light. Pyrogranite: A material resistant to external weather conditions. Adorned with bull/ox head motifs, the fountain represents a masterful combination of the Art Nouveau style and ceramic innovation. It is an absolute must-see for all visitors—a cultural heritage and a masterpiece that captivates with its beauty.

Downtown Candlemas Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, formerly known as the Pasha Gazi Kassim Mosque, is a remarkable 16th-century building in Pecs. Originally a mosque during the Turkish occupation, it was later converted into a Catholic church. The structure features Islamic elements such as Turkish ogee arches and a mihrab, alongside beautiful geometric frescoes.
Downtown Candlemas Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Gyertyaszentelő Boldogasszony templom), also known as the Gázi Kászim Mosque, is a truly unique and captivating historical site in Pécs. Blending Christian and Ottoman architecture, the building showcases centuries of history in one sacred space. The atmosphere is peaceful and deeply spiritual, with beautiful stained glass windows and Islamic motifs coexisting harmoniously. It's a must-visit for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, or anyone seeking a moment of quiet reflection. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, and the central location makes it easy to explore. A stunning cultural and historical treasure of Hungary!

Nestled in the heart of the city square, this former mosque, now church is a site to see. The painted dome is very special. Not quite as special as the nearby Cathedral but definitely worth visiting. I purchased the ticket that also gave me access to the Cathedral.

The Gazi Kasim Pasha Mosque is one of the most significant historical landmarks in the city of Pécs, Hungary. It was originally built in the 16th century during the Ottoman occupation of Hungary, between 1543 and 1546, under the command of Gazi Kasim Pasha, who was the Ottoman governor of Pécs at the time. The mosque was constructed on the site of a former Gothic church, which was demolished to make way for the new Islamic place of worship. The building's architecture reflects a blend of Islamic and local styles, featuring a large dome and pointed arches, typical of Ottoman mosque design. The mosque was one of the largest in Hungary and served as the main mosque in Pécs during the Ottoman era. After the end of Ottoman rule in the late 17th century, the mosque was converted into a Christian church, known as the Inner City Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. While the building retains much of its original Ottoman structure, modifications were made to adapt it for Christian worship, including the addition of a Baroque-style altar and the removal of Islamic inscriptions. Despite these changes, the Gazi Kasim Pasha Mosque remains a remarkable example of Ottoman architecture in Hungary and serves as a symbol of the diverse cultural and religious history of Pécs. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction, allowing visitors to explore the unique architectural blend and learn about the city's Ottoman past. The mosque is also part of Pécs' UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its historical and cultural significance.

Interesting church that used to be a mosque. I think the outside is more beautiful. Staff inside were super friendly!
Gemma W — Google review
A true historical and architectural gem! A must-see when in Pécs. The transformation from a mosque to a Catholic church is absolutely fascinating. You can clearly see the Turkish/Ottoman elements, like the dome and the preserved mihrab, blended with Christian altars and frescoes. It’s a powerful symbol of the city's layered history. Peaceful atmosphere and beautiful light inside. Highly recommend for history buffs!
Happy H — Google review
History teacher here, for those of you who don't know, I'll give you a quick, quick lesson. This region of Hungary was Christian since, well, a long, long time, then in the mid 1500s it was conquered by the Ottomans (who were Muslim) then in the early 1700s it was re-conquered by Christians. Pasha Qasim the Victorious of the Ottomans built this mosque between 1543-1546. Then, when the Ottomans were conquered by the Hapsburgs who were Christian they converted the mosque into a Christian church. Sadly, the Jesuits destroyed the minaret in 1766. This mosque is one of the largest Ottoman constructions left in Hungary. I appreciate how the left at least some of the old Arabic writing and Islamic artistic style on the walls. And be sure to see the incredibly hokey tribute to the crusades mural on the second floor. I stood there mesmerized by it. I know my grandma would have loved it all the way down to the weeping Muslim and the triumphant crusader. It's so funny to me how history is remembered to people. The massacre of millions is celebrated by a pretty painting with a cute little rainbow in a house of worship? That's just the kind of stuff I will never understand about religion. It was an amazing visit though. Highly recommended. Must see in Pecs.

Pizzaklub is a delightful gem that captures the essence of Italy right in its vibrant atmosphere. The spacious dining areas are complemented by friendly staff, making it an inviting spot for pizza lovers. With a menu that's both simple and diverse, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Diners rave about the delicious thin-crust pizzas, which are best savored fresh out of the oven. While many appreciate the affordable prices and welcoming service, some have suggested adding vegan options to cater to all preferences.

This place truly gives off an authentic Italian vibe. I personally love the interior, the pleasant and friendly atmosphere, the staff, and the spacious dining rooms. While this already looks good, the food takes it even further. The menu is simple yet diverse, and you will certainly find your pick. As the name suggests, this is a pizza place, and they definitely do justice to it because the pizza is great, the quantity also, and the price is really competitive (probably the best price-value ratio in the city). If you crave a good Italian pizza, you shouldn't miss Pizzaklub.

Bacchus Pince Étterem is a cozy restaurant located in a cellar that opens onto a pedestrian street. Despite initial concerns about the musty smell, visitors were pleasantly surprised by the delicious food and affordable prices. The Bacchus bowl for two was particularly delightful, with generous portions of every tasty ingredient. The friendly and efficient service added to the enjoyable experience.
Excellent home-made style Hungarian food, made to order. Superb catfish goulash! A hidden gem of Pecs! Friendly and hospitable staff! I will return!

The space lacks fresh air and smells of oil and heavy dampness, even almost mouldy. It’s quite unfortunate as the atmosphere otherwise could be quite authentic. We weren’t able to sit through a meal, so we rather left (therefore I couldn’t rate the food or service, and gave an average rating). That said, I hope the ventilation can get fixed soon, but it could be better to temporarily take a break until fixed, as I would be worried that it could affect your staff on the long run.

(Translated by Google) It's a self-service restaurant, so it's pretty quick. I wouldn't go there because of the gastronomic experience it offers, but it's a good place to have lunch while strolling around the Žilina district. The environment is clean and tidy, and in the summer heat it was especially nice to sit under the umbrellas on the terrace. After 2 p.m. the selection was quite limited, the vegetables and herbs were already sold out. What was left struggled with the temperature challenges, I like it warmer.

(Translated by Google) I was a little afraid of it at first but It was very delicious. I ate Paleo: Mushroom soup and spicy pork roast Calvados sauce garnished with puffed carrots. If the food could really be a little warmer, it would be good.

(Translated by Google) A place with a high ceiling and a terrace with a pedestrian bridge leading to the Zsolnay district. We arrived a quarter of an hour before closing, but they not only served us kindly, but also indicated that we should eat calmly, as long as we finish eating 10-15 minutes after the opening time, there is no problem. The interior is minimalistic and industrial in nature, decorated with contemporary works and offset by cheerful colors on the natural concrete surfaces. There are several menus at good prices and you can also choose from the daily list. Everything was tasty, and I found the amount of fruit juice to be a lot. I wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant.

From bob rides to rope courses, climbing walls, and indoor play zones, there are plenty of options to choose from. The park features a forest coaster that provides an exhilarating experience amidst the trees. Additionally, visitors can enjoy go-karting, tree climbing, and other adrenaline-pumping activities.
**Amazing Adventure at Mecsek Extreme Park!** We recently had a fantastic day at Mecsek Extreme Park. The park offers a wide range of activities for both young and old. From challenging rope courses and exciting ziplines to fun climbing walls and a thrilling bobsled track, there is something for everyone. The staff is extremely friendly and professional, ensuring that everyone feels safe and welcome. The natural surroundings of the park are beautiful and add to the overall experience. We enjoyed a lovely picnic in the green surroundings, and the children had the time of their lives in the playgrounds. A visit to Mecsek Extreme Park is highly recommended for anyone looking for a day full of adventure and fun in nature. We will definitely be back!

Too good! It was the second time after a few years that we went there but it was still fun for the kids and the adults too. The tree climbing part is really challenging. The students working there in the summer were really helpful and professional. Only if the queues for the bob slide would be a bit shorter (20 min standing in the queue for each slide).

We love it there, visit at least once a year. The staff are young but very kind, respectful and helpful. We love the bob (forest coaster) and the tree climbing. Last time we didn't have a chance to try the rest of the park. We had lunch which was also great. Highly recommended!

I wish it was opened not just on weekends! Super cool place. Forest around is very beautiful. I'm going mainly to alpine routes, there're so many of them. There're some for children + 2 for teenagers or very beginning adults + 4 (maybe more) for adults. And about 5 zip line routes. All of them between trees where it's not hot even at +35. I absolutely love the variety and the location. It's the best park with alpine routes I've been to. P. S. Pretty comfortable to reach by bus.
Natalie G — Google review
This place is beautiful. inside the forest they have a forest coaster! It was really fun I even get on it again and again! The entrance was 3450ft in autumn. You can play a lot of arena, but in the fall to winter season some of the arena close due to the slippery conditions (like the donut slide and shooting). But the forest coaster is still open and is a must!
Putri S — Google review
WOW, truly a unique place. It's run by the Forest management company so it's not a traditional entertainment business. It provides things to do for the whole family, one of the best forest zipline and climbing challenge park I have ever seen, a nice summer bob track, pedal go-kart, and dozens of fun and educational programs from kids. Ages 3(?) and up. It also has forest trails with signs in Hungarian and English about the ecosystem and forest management.
Marton T — Google review
It is a very nice park having lots of attractions. There was plenty of places to go and have fun for all ages. The most notable is the tree climbing. There are many different courses to go for children and adults with different difficulties. The Bob is also very fun with a very high speed and short queues at some points. The restaurant was also clean and nice but portions were very plain with not even any salad. Apart from that the food still tasted good. The last attraction I went on the donut was a huge let down. There was one family taking all the donuts for a long period of time and there were no free ones. Also there are plenty of parking spaces.
Gyula S — Google review
Well worth the money spent on family tickets. It's a whole day entertainment with offers for all ages. ( climbing frames, slides, donut-slides, wall climbing, bob, tree-trails, football, ping-pong, ruding bull etc) You get unlimited rides on the bob and the queue is not too long on weekdays even during the summer break. The tree-trails are challenging but offer variety for all abilities. The guys explained the use thoroughly and were ready to assist or save thouse who got stuck or too tired.

The Zsolnay Porcelain Museum in Pecs showcases the world-famous handmade ceramics and stonework of the Zsolnay Porcelain Manufacture. The museum is located in the oldest building in Pecs and features six rooms that take visitors on a chronological journey through the manufacturing process. The exhibits include decorative motifs for buildings, figurines, tableware, and tiles. The museum also highlights the technological innovations and Art Nouveau murals of Zsolnay.
One of the most wonderful museums in Europe ( ceramic industry). I love that.
Stefan H — Google review
The museum is very beautiful and contains a long and detailed history of ceramic making and how it arrived in the city of Leptich. The artworks are amazing and showcase a wide range of techniques used in ceramic production, some of which are unique to Hungary. There are several halls spread across two floors, and a visit typically takes between one to two hours. Everything was good, but I believe the place could use more staff and better air conditioning during the summer months, as the heat inside is unbearable and it ruins the experience. Additionally, more effort could be put into the shop section. I wanted to buy a souvenir, but the items on display were few and extremely expensive.
Tammam H — Google review
Was asked to pay extra to BRING my camera. Not to take pictures, not to sell pictures later, just to BRING what I carried on my person. How is that not outright discrimination? It's my choice what I wear, and what accessories. I left in dismay and will not return until such a practice stops!

Pouring rain in Pécs today so decided to go here. A real treat to see such beautiful porcelain which is both functional and decorative. The night before we watched a Hungarian movie with English subtitles. “Lover of the soil”. A fanciful costume drama based on the Zsolnay family. Do not expect to see a workshop or anything like that. This is a collection of art from a small time frame in Hungarian history.

Small art museum dedicated to Csontváry Definitely worth a visit if you would like to explore post-Impressionism / expressionism beyond the well-known names. He didn’t produce that many paintings but most of his work is hugely enjoyable (that seems as good a description as any).

What are massive surprise for uncultured Geordie… having never heard of Csontváry I was very excited to discover this museum. I had my dog with me, which I thought would be a problem. However, Ava, the amazing lady on reception offered to keep him behind the reception. He is very well trained and exceptionally patient. I’m not sure this service would be offered for your average untrained noisy dog. However, I must say a massive thanks to Eva. The exhibition is brilliant. It covers examples from the full range of his career. The pencil sketches are experimental and represent immediate that he was not himself all together comfortable in. However, they are amazing. The classics as I’ve now discovered are on full display, including an awe, inspiring rendering of the Tatra mountains. This is definitely the highlight of my visit in Hungary. The entry ticket was about €15 And well worth it.

Very small museum (5 rooms). Nearly the entire collection is here on Google reviews. Some very large paintings. At about $5 entry fee, it's expensive for a small collection (hopefully the Louvre won't charge $1 per gallery!)

Definitely needs to visit this museum!

All of his most famous pieces are prominently displayed, along with some great sketches I had not seen. Nice large spaces, but only accessible up some significant stairs, so not for the walking impaired.

What a delight this exhibition offers. A pinch of alienation, a kind of budding surrealism is applied to the representations of humans mostly playing secondary roles on paintings. Expect large canvases with bold colours and intense contrasts spearheading future abstract forms as the XXth century advances towards avant-garde art movements. Your senses will be captured mostly by depictions of nature and its underlying stories. You need space to acquire sensations transmitted by the paintings and here you will have plenty of them. This is a unique collection from an amateur painter that has his own peculiar place in art history. In spite of this all what brought me down is how the Museum is administered. You have to turn the wheel of time 50 years back to get what I mean. All so socialist. What a pity.

Small but great collection

Spent about an hour here. There is not a lot to see. Some very very large murals, colourful and interesting pictures by a single artist. He has a mostly colourful almost gaudily vivid style in many of his paintings with a naive distorted scale and perspective in many of them reminiscent of other more famous painters of the same era. Csontváry was a mostly self taught Artist who travelled outside Hungary extensively and was unappreciated and dismissed by Hungarians until 30 or so years after his death. An interesting scale replica of the Hungarian Crown is in the stairwell and interesting to see, especially if you have seen the original in the parliament. As a tourist it was affordable but I expect for locals it is quite pricey.

Without a doubt, the terrace at Semiramis Garden Panoráma offers a truly unique and beautiful view. The traditional Hungarian desserts, which are all homemade, are absolutely delightful. Additionally, the café provides free wi-fi for those who may need it in areas where mobile reception is limited. As for the coffee, it is decently satisfying. It's worth noting that the owners of this establishment are incredibly warm and friendly individuals.
This charming hut is a must-visit for hikers looking to refuel in a cozy and welcoming setting. Their menu features hearty offerings like fish soup, toast, wine, and more, all served in huge portions that are perfect after a long trek. The service is warm and attentive, adding to the inviting atmosphere. The rustic decor and relaxed vibe make it an ideal spot to unwind and enjoy a satisfying meal. Whether you're there for the delicious soup or a glass of wine, this place is a true gem in the wilderness!

Nice place, great atmosphere, friendly staff (acute and friendly couple). The food was fine, the pancakes were really good. Free wi-fi didn’t work for me.

On the top of the world is this resning place located. A hot and good walk up to it which passes some scenic places. You can see half of Pecs from here. It's a rather unique place because the TV tower has just become hidden behind the North hills. The service is really slow, but after walking here the resting is OK.

You can enjoy the view of the city in this cozy place. Their coffee and pancake are delicious and the cold beer was good too. It is a pleasant pastime under the huge trees. The staff is OK.

There is no doubt that you will have a very unique view in the terrace! The home-made traditional Hungarian desserts were amazing and they also offer free wi-fi! (You'll need it when your mobile does not work in the mountain.) Regarding the taste of coffee, I think it was fine. But I must also say that the owners are so lovely!

Wedding venue
Pezsgőház Étterem is a charming restaurant located in Pecs, known for its elegant ambiance and fine Hungarian cuisine. Housed in a former champagne factory built in 1859, the restaurant offers a blend of classic Hungarian dishes with a modern twist, as well as some delightful Far Eastern options. The extensive wine and champagne selection adds to the dining experience.
Fantastic venue for a wedding. We had our meal in the cellar area and it was perfect. Food was really nice and authentic. Downstairs venue was much more personal and atmospheric compared to the hall upstairs. Could do with a couple more fans as it got very hot at times.

This is more of a conference centre/wedding venue with wine cellars underneath. Not a restaurant at all. The venue is a large empty room that can be set up for multiple purposes. Quite nice looking, very modern but not much atmosphere. We were there for a wine tasting and cellar tour organised by the Palatinus hotel as part of our stay over the New Year. After the sparkling wine tasting we were led on a tour down into the extensive cellars of what used to be a Sparkling Wine/Champagne style cellar. Now mostly empty and in disuse they are remarkably large going down at least 3-4 levels and a seeming maze of corridors and tunnels. Our guide was knowledgeable and gave lots of information about the winery and Cellars history. We enjoyed our time, well worth the visit.

The place is good for business dinners and also for quick daily lunches. I like the historical athmosphere, the food, that is slightly above the average. The staff is kind of novice. What is a must see is the sparkling wine manufacturing and the medieval cathacomb system that is 7 stories below the ground and even a horse cart can turn around inside, that big are the caves.
