Cathedral
Catholic church
Pécs Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is a stunning Catholic church with origins dating back to the 10th century. Situated in the heart of Pecs, Hungary, this active cathedral boasts beautiful gardens and exquisite religious art. Its rich history and magnificent architectural design make it a top tourist attraction in the city. The cathedral's Romanesque Revival look from the 19th century adds to its allure.
The Pécs Cathedral (Pécsi Bazilika), officially known as the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, is a magnificent symbol of Pécs's rich religious and architectural heritage. Standing proudly at the heart of the city, this impressive Romanesque structure dates back to the 11th century, though it has undergone various renovations, blending Gothic, Renaissance, and Neo-Romanesque styles. Its four towering spires dominate the skyline, creating a striking visual landmark. Inside, the cathedral's ornate interior features stunning frescoes, intricate carvings, and a majestic pipe organ, offering a breathtaking atmosphere of reverence and artistry. The cathedral frequently hosts concerts, taking advantage of its excellent acoustics. As a sacred site and an architectural masterpiece, the Pécs Cathedral is a must-visit destination that captures the spirit and history of the city.

There was a service there when we visited, so it was closed for tourists. The entrance door is very interesting. There is something about leaves in Pecs, but we didn't quite understand what :)
Google review
This is a wonderful place to attend Mass, offering a peaceful and reverent atmosphere. The church itself is absolutely beautiful, with stunning architecture and intricate details that inspire a sense of awe and reflection. Whether you're a regular churchgoer or a visitor, it's a spiritually uplifting experience in a truly remarkable setting.
Nguyen A — Google review
We didn’t go inside Pécs Cathedral, but even just walking around the outside was pretty awesome. The architecture is stunning—massive, elegant, and full of history. You can feel how old and important the place is just from the vibe it gives off. What really made the visit cool was exploring the ruins nearby. They’re tucked around the cathedral and give you this real sense of ancient layers—like you’re walking through different parts of history. Super atmospheric. Great photo ops, too. Definitely worth stopping by, even if you're not doing the full tour. Makes you want to come back and explore more next time!

All I can say is WOW! I have visited hundreds of churches in all my travels around the globe and this one ranks in the top 10. Who would have ever thought that a small city like Pécs would have such a gem. So worth visiting and taking a walk up the tower. Absolutely loved this place. Incredibly highly recommended. Cannot be missed!!!

The Csontváry Museum, situated in the charming city of Pécs, Hungary, is a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts. It is a Neo-Renaissance-style museum that was established in 1973 and features both permanent and rotating exhibitions of Hungarian paintings. The museum is dedicated to showcasing the remarkable works of Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka, a renowned Hungarian painter.
Small art museum dedicated to Csontváry Definitely worth a visit if you would like to explore post-Impressionism / expressionism beyond the well-known names. He didn’t produce that many paintings but most of his work is hugely enjoyable (that seems as good a description as any).
Paul K — Google review
What are massive surprise for uncultured Geordie… having never heard of Csontváry I was very excited to discover this museum. I had my dog with me, which I thought would be a problem. However, Ava, the amazing lady on reception offered to keep him behind the reception. He is very well trained and exceptionally patient. I’m not sure this service would be offered for your average untrained noisy dog. However, I must say a massive thanks to Eva. The exhibition is brilliant. It covers examples from the full range of his career. The pencil sketches are experimental and represent immediate that he was not himself all together comfortable in. However, they are amazing. The classics as I’ve now discovered are on full display, including an awe, inspiring rendering of the Tatra mountains. This is definitely the highlight of my visit in Hungary. The entry ticket was about €15 And well worth it.
Richard T — Google review
Very small museum (5 rooms). Nearly the entire collection is here on Google reviews. Some very large paintings. At about $5 entry fee, it's expensive for a small collection (hopefully the Louvre won't charge $1 per gallery!)
Joe S — Google review
Definitely needs to visit this museum!
Shady B — Google review
All of his most famous pieces are prominently displayed, along with some great sketches I had not seen. Nice large spaces, but only accessible up some significant stairs, so not for the walking impaired.
Joe B — Google review
What a delight this exhibition offers. A pinch of alienation, a kind of budding surrealism is applied to the representations of humans mostly playing secondary roles on paintings. Expect large canvases with bold colours and intense contrasts spearheading future abstract forms as the XXth century advances towards avant-garde art movements. Your senses will be captured mostly by depictions of nature and its underlying stories. You need space to acquire sensations transmitted by the paintings and here you will have plenty of them. This is a unique collection from an amateur painter that has his own peculiar place in art history. In spite of this all what brought me down is how the Museum is administered. You have to turn the wheel of time 50 years back to get what I mean. All so socialist. What a pity.
Eszter A — Google review
Small but great collection
Virág K — Google review
Spent about an hour here. There is not a lot to see. Some very very large murals, colourful and interesting pictures by a single artist. He has a mostly colourful almost gaudily vivid style in many of his paintings with a naive distorted scale and perspective in many of them reminiscent of other more famous painters of the same era. Csontváry was a mostly self taught Artist who travelled outside Hungary extensively and was unappreciated and dismissed by Hungarians until 30 or so years after his death. An interesting scale replica of the Hungarian Crown is in the stairwell and interesting to see, especially if you have seen the original in the parliament. As a tourist it was affordable but I expect for locals it is quite pricey.

The Zsolnay Cultural Quarter is a former 19th-century ceramic factory transformed into a vibrant hub of art galleries, music venues, and cafes. Visitors can start their afternoon at the Littke Sparkling Wine Houses visitor center before immersing themselves in the rich cultural offerings of the quarter. The area also houses permanent exhibitions showcasing the heritage of Vilmos Zsolnay, including displays on the history of the Zsolnay family and the renowned Pink exhibition.
Lovely spot to wander and soak up the cultural area. We were only able to visit on a Sunday, the galleries were open but all the shops were closed. I think one if the cafes was open but we didn’t visit. We went to the skateboard/street art exhibit. It was quiet, pretty much had the place to ourselves. The staff were helpful. Will visit again when the shops are open and we have more time to spend at the glassworks. Note- you pay for which exhibits you’re interested in seeing, there maybe a ticket for everything but we just stuck to the one as we were short on time.
Jo E — Google review
Was a pleasant walk to the cultural center from the town centre. A really quaint and colourful area with small shops and artisans working on their crafts. Also a planetarium on site. A must see in Pécs.
Lawrence K — Google review
Breathtaking exhibition. The quarter alone is beautiful.
Juno — Google review
We only went to see the Gyugyi Collection, and it is absolutely beautiful. Definitely worth the visit and the exhibition itself deserves a 5-star rating. The problem is that the cultural complex has no info in English, or any other language, except Hungarian, and that includes info on prices, tickets, as well as directions. The complex is meant for tourists, and they seem to be going out of their way to make tourists feel unwelcome. No matter which exhibition you decide to go to, you should walk through the entire complex, as the buildings and the surroundings there are amazing. However, their service is the opposite :(
Nevena B — Google review
Very cool to visit even if you don't have time to go inside the buildings. Unique style that is a lovely update on Art Deco style. I hear it’s a great events space . Worth a visit or event for sure. Near the center of town.

This place is a must in Pecs. You can feel the arts in the air. I went there rather early in the morning, there were few people and I enjoyed myself disco bring lovely selfie spots, visiting the glove factory and listening to the students at the Academy of Music. Ten stars, even if the pottery factory was closed.

Pécs Synagogue, located in the fifth largest city of Hungary, has a rich history dating back to the 18th century when the Jewish community thrived. Although its congregation significantly decreased after the Holocaust, this architectural gem still stands as a blend of Neoclassical and Moorish Revival design from 1869. The synagogue's transformation from a mosque to a cathedral adds to its allure.
The Pécs Synagogue is an absolutely stunning and peaceful place to visit. The architecture is breathtaking, with intricate details that beautifully reflect its rich history and cultural significance. Inside, the atmosphere is serene and reflective, offering a perfect space to appreciate both spirituality and art. The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable, providing valuable insights into the synagogue's history and importance. Whether you're interested in architecture, history, or simply looking for a tranquil place to visit, the Pécs Synagogue is a must-see. Truly a gem in the heart of Pécs!

Museums
The Victor Vasarely Museum, located in Pecs, Hungary, is a classic building that has been open since 1976. It houses the world's largest collection of the renowned Hungarian-French artist's op-art creations, featuring over 400 pieces. The museum showcases symmetrical and largely abstract works with clever illuminations that intensify the 3D experience. While there have been debates about visual distortion, the well-curated selection offers an evocative and eye-bending experience.
A wonderful experience and absolutely worth visiting! The staff are incredibly kind and helpful, making the visit even more enjoyable. The exhibition itself is excellent, thoughtfully curated, and very engaging. The ticket price is 2500 HUF, with an additional photo fee of 300 HUF, which is definitely reasonable for such a memorable visit. Highly recommend it!
Irena P — Google review
Visited this museum (20.02.25) after being introduced to Victor Vasarely’s work in a County Art teacher’s training session… by luck, it just so happens I was visiting Budapest shortly afterwards, so got to see his wonderful artwork up close. What a wonderful gallery (museum). Fairly modest in size but packed with so many beautiful paintings, sketches and collages of Vasarely’s work, from his flat geometric work to his incredible op art. The colours, the precision and the patience are truly awe-inspiring. The staff were helpful and friendly as the ambiance was calm and serene. Other modern artists were also featured which complemented the style of Vasarely so well and you can see his clear influence. The curator asked where I came from (England) and commented on the fact they only seem to get French or English other than Hungarians… so I just want to spread the word further… to all nationalities, if you are in Budapest , love abstract geometric art and op art the Victor Vasarely Museum is the place to go.
Jill C — Google review
This is a place which is worth visiting, at least I still remember the first time 30 or more years ago. Even the kids love it. Well maintained, cosy small museum with these great pieces of art. Even the gate of the front yard is nice.
Gergely L — Google review
Fantastic collection on abstract and space/shape explorer Victor Vasarely, lover of optical illusions, colour explorations and textile craft. Museum is nicely planned with a sort of chronological order so to appreciate the evolution in his vision. It doesn't overwhelm you with countless rooms, and you can focus on just what's necessary on every wall. If you enjoy themes of colour, shape and abstract scenery and reflect on their nature, this is a place for you to explore. There's a small shop where you can buy postcards, magnets, small crafts and some more. Staff is friendly and helpful!
Francesco S — Google review
A good spot to loosen up and relieve tension. Vasarely’s artwork is pleasing in my eyes and super satisfying to see! Great collection and has a cozy vibe. The Museum also sells merchandise (like masks, shirts, etc.) with Vasarely’s pieces in it and it's beautiful. If you decide to go here, the Museum offers different prices (for students it is discounted) and they will offer you an extra fee if you want to take pictures of the artwork.
Alice P — Google review
I liked very much the work specially of Claire Vasarely
Irayetzin H — Google review
The museum, dedicated to the work of Victor Vasarely, the founder of Op-Art, costs about €6, with an additional small fee for taking photos, bringing my total to around €7.50. It presents an extensive collection of his works, known for their geometric shapes and optical effects. The museum itself is very exciting if you enjoy this type of art. I took many pictures and really liked it. Depending on how busy it is, you might have the rooms to yourself. It was quiet when I visited, but there was a small line at the ticket counter when I left. I was there around 4:30 PM and spent about 30 to 45 minutes in the museum. A fascinating visit for those interested in modern art and optical illusions.

The Zsolnay Porcelain Museum in Pecs showcases the world-famous handmade ceramics and stonework of the Zsolnay Porcelain Manufacture. The museum is located in the oldest building in Pecs and features six rooms that take visitors on a chronological journey through the manufacturing process. The exhibits include decorative motifs for buildings, figurines, tableware, and tiles. The museum also highlights the technological innovations and Art Nouveau murals of Zsolnay.
One of the most wonderful museums in Europe ( ceramic industry). I love that.
Stefan H — Google review
The museum is very beautiful and contains a long and detailed history of ceramic making and how it arrived in the city of Leptich. The artworks are amazing and showcase a wide range of techniques used in ceramic production, some of which are unique to Hungary. There are several halls spread across two floors, and a visit typically takes between one to two hours. Everything was good, but I believe the place could use more staff and better air conditioning during the summer months, as the heat inside is unbearable and it ruins the experience. Additionally, more effort could be put into the shop section. I wanted to buy a souvenir, but the items on display were few and extremely expensive.
Tammam H — Google review
Was asked to pay extra to BRING my camera. Not to take pictures, not to sell pictures later, just to BRING what I carried on my person. How is that not outright discrimination? It's my choice what I wear, and what accessories. I left in dismay and will not return until such a practice stops!
Chris — Google review
Pouring rain in Pécs today so decided to go here. A real treat to see such beautiful porcelain which is both functional and decorative. The night before we watched a Hungarian movie with English subtitles. “Lover of the soil”. A fanciful costume drama based on the Zsolnay family. Do not expect to see a workshop or anything like that. This is a collection of art from a small time frame in Hungarian history.

Observation Decks & Towers
The Pécs TV Tower, standing at 197 meters high atop the 535-meter Misina, has been in operation since 1973. Apart from its broadcasting responsibilities, it boasts an observation deck offering panoramic views of Pécs and its surroundings. On clear days, visitors can admire the Villanyi Mountains and even catch a glimpse of Croatian Papuk Hill or Badacsony. At night, the tower is illuminated with vibrant colors.
Very nice view, great for pictures and videos. You can see whole city from up there. It is 3.5€ per person(student price, 1€ more normally) to go up there 80 meters high. Restaurant available on the tower was full. Many parking spaces, cafe bar and ice cream available.

View was nice, 360 degrees and open. 1590ft per person. There's a lookout point below that's free that has a nice view too. There are some hikes in the area, so there are some other things to do too.
Angela A — Google review
The Pécs TV Tower is a must-visit! The views from the observation deck are absolutely breathtaking—you can see all of Pécs and even distant mountains on a clear day. There's also a café where you can relax and enjoy the scenery. Great spot for photos. Totally worth the trip up the hill!
Yang E — Google review
I expected more. You can't go up without an elevator operated by a girl who works at the entrance, and her workplace looks like a former toilet to me. The entrance fee is not expensive, but the view is nothing special either. We wanted to sit in the restaurant, but it was too hot and stuffy.
Ivana D — Google review
The Pécs TV Tower is a must-visit for its breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views over the city, the Mecsek Hills, and the distant plains, offering a unique perspective in every direction. Perched high on Misina Peak, it’s the perfect spot to take in the scenery while enjoying a coffee, a glass of wine, or even a meal in the rotating-style restaurant, making the experience as relaxing as it is unforgettable. There is elevator for faster access.
Kaloian T — Google review
Great views of the surrounding area and cool on a hot day. Buy a ticket from the office downstairs then use the lift (there is a lift attendant) to go up. There is no information once you are up there, like which direction lake Balaton is in or what the various building are in the town. You have to use the lift both to get up and down.

Visit this place every year. Great place to see the whole Pecs city. There is a restaurant and above a terrace to see the magnificent view. On a clear day you can easily see over to Croatia and to give you a little secret what they dont tell you: if you go up in the evening and look over towards the city at the furthes point you should be able to see the street lights writing PECS across the town. Amazing.

Széchenyi Square is a bustling piazza in the heart of Pecs city center, adorned with charming cafes, statues, and surrounded by significant landmarks. The square was revitalized for Pecs' stint as European Capital of Culture in 2010 and serves as a focal point for various events throughout the year.
Széchenyi Square (Széchenyi tér) in Pécs is the vibrant heart of the city, offering a perfect blend of history, culture, and modern life. Surrounded by stunning historical buildings and adorned with the iconic equestrian statue of János Hunyadi, the square exudes charm and elegance. The beautifully preserved Ottoman-era Gázi Kászim Pasha Mosque, now the Downtown Candlemas Church, adds a unique historical touch. Lined with cozy cafes, shops, and cultural landmarks, Széchenyi tér is a lively meeting point for locals and visitors alike. Its spacious design and picturesque setting make it an ideal place to relax, enjoy events, or simply soak in the beauty of Pécs.
Roja S — Google review
Széchenyi Square is hands down one of my favorite spots in Pécs. It’s got everything—history, chill vibes, and that gorgeous old mosque-turned-church right in the middle. The whole square is lined with cafés and cool buildings, and there's always something interesting going on. I happened to visit during Zsolnay Fényfesztivál, and it totally brought the place to life! Live music, food stalls, people dancing—it felt like the whole city came out to celebrate. The atmosphere was electric but still cozy enough to relax with a coffee and people-watch. At night, the lights and the buzz made it even more magical. If you're ever in Pécs, make sure to swing by the square—especially if there's a festival happening. It’s an experience you won’t forget!

This square is simply the most beautiful and essential part of Pécs. It's not just historical; it's where you truly feel the city's pulse. It's dominated by the incredible Candlemas Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the impressive City Hall, which gives the square its grand, historical focal point. The square is lined with lovely cafés and restaurants, making it the perfect spot for relaxing and people-watching.

Pécs Zoo, located in the southern part of Pecs, Hungary, is a popular attraction offering a diverse range of animal species from around the world. The hilltop facility features animal exhibits, a petting zoo, an aquarium, and a park showcasing local plants. Visitors can observe majestic creatures like lions, tigers, and leopards up close. The zoo is well-organized and clean with friendly English-speaking staff.
The price seemed a bit high, but worth every cent! Beautifully organized and clean, lots of animals. The zoo is integrated into the mountain.

Nice zoo, big selection of animals and close encounter with animals, located on the hillside, so as you go through the zoo you're going up the hill, might be demanding for people with baby strollers or people with disabilites. Parking is free, but it's unmarked on the side of the road, before and after the zoo entrance. Zoo map is paid extra 300ft.

Beautiful zoo, around 1 hour of watching interesting animals like zebras, monkeys, hippos etc. While driving to the zoo there is a stunning view on Pecs! Would recommend to everyone.

Would recommend everyone to visit the zoo. So much to see, what ever animal you can think of you can see there. Many food and drink stands. Benches all around the whole zoo. Everything perfectly clean.

Small, but very nice zoo with plenty of animals. Very hard to find some parking space though. Tickets are rather expensive, and you have to pay the ticket for the babies as well... But all in all, very nice zoo!

Zsolnay Fountain is a significant monument in Pecs, dedicated to Vilmos Zsolnay, the renowned designer of Zsolnay ceramics. Donated by his son in 1908 and designed by Andor Pilch, this fountain is a must-see when visiting the city. It's located on Szechenyi Ter and stands in front of the Catholic church. The fountain is especially captivating during warmer months when it's operational, offering a refreshing oasis for visitors.
coming upon this fountain was like coming upon an oasis in a desert. very much needed water after a failed attempt to eat an entire langosh. very pretty and fun to get water from a dribbling creature!

Pretty interesting historic landmark. It honours and represents the specific type of marble that the city of Pecs is known for. You can easily spot a lot of souvenirs and products that use it, and it is even included in the ornamenting of the buildings.
Google review
The Zsolnay Fountain on the main square in Pécs is a beautiful and extremely significant work of art. Built in 1912 as a memorial to Vilmos Zsolnay, the fountain stands out due to the use of two key inventions from the famous Zsolnay factory: Eosin Glaze: This glaze gives the ceramic a magical, iridescent metallic sheen that changes with the light. Pyrogranite: A material resistant to external weather conditions. Adorned with bull/ox head motifs, the fountain represents a masterful combination of the Art Nouveau style and ceramic innovation. It is an absolute must-see for all visitors—a cultural heritage and a masterpiece that captivates with its beauty.

The Bishop's Palace, also known as the Bishop's Castle, is a historic site located on the west side of Pecs Cathedral. Originally established as a Romanesque church in the 12th century, it has been home to several bishops over the years. The palace was extensively expanded and renovated by various bishops, with the most recent restoration ordered by Bishop Janos Scitovszky in the 19th century.
A relatively short, but nevertheless very interesting guided tour is offered twice a day. You need to register and pay for one of the two tours in the church building, there is a cashier as you enter the main gate, to the left. The building is very nicely refurbished and the tour guide is very professional. The walled garden has a very unique and peaceful atmosphere.

(Translated by Google) "The Pécs bishop's palace, or bishop's palace, is a monumental building located on the west side of the Pécs cathedral, which was mostly built in the 12th century, but which was continuously expanded according to the taste of the reigning bishops. Most recently, in the 19th century, by order of Bishop János Scitovszky. The earliest record of the bishop's palace dates back to 1015. This first part of the palace was destroyed by fire in 1064. During the Renaissance, the palace was significantly remodeled. At that time, it was enriched with another palace wing, which was built to the inner wall of the castle wall to the west of the tower. The first large-scale reconstruction took place in the 18th century, and in the second half of the century, Bishop György Klimó fundamentally modernized the entire building. The small windows were replaced by large stone windows. The library wing was built and economic premises were created. In the halls of the palace, you can see the bishop's study rooms and salons, which vary in style. The way of life of the bishops is presented to us with the help of uniquely decorated Baroque, Biedermeier, Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque furniture, paintings and furnishings. In addition to all this, we can admire the beauties of the carefully designed Mediterranean garden. Although the history of the tunnel under the Bishop's Palace, which connects the garden with the Cellar and the Granary, dates back to the Middle Ages, it fulfilled its most special task during the communist autocracy. The cellar was then not only used to store wine. It was also used for secure, underground negotiations in the days when countless listening devices were installed in the bishop's residence and garden, as the thick wall of the basement was an impenetrable barrier to the technical standards of the time. Today, the tunnel with a long history provides an exceptional environment for the presentation of the perilous everyday life of the communist church persecution, through the presentation of resisting priests and conceptual trials. The wine cellar, built in the 18th century, belonged to the bishop's residence at the time and was known as the "main cellar" of the manor. In the two-story, huge space extending deep underground, the visitor can see the original barrels of the cellar and taste its wines, thereby getting to know the great Pécs Diocese its past wine culture." (Original) "A pécsi püspöki palota, vagy püspökvárnak is nevezett épületkomplexum a pécsi székesegyház nyugati oldalánál található műemléki épület, melyet zömmel a 12. század folyamán építettek, de melyet a regnáló püspökök ízlése szerint folyamatosan bővítették. Legutóbb a 19. században, Scitovszky János püspök megbízásából. A legkorábbi emlék a püspöki palotáról 1015-ben keletkezett. Ez az első palotarész az 1064-es tűzvészkor a tűz martaléka lett. A reneszánsz korban a palotát jelentősen átalakították. Ekkor egy újabb palotaszárnnyal gazdagodott, amit a várfal belső falához építettek a toronytól nyugatra. Az első nagyarányú átépítésre a 18. században került sor, a század második felében Klimó György püspök az egész épületet alapvetően korszerűsítette. A kis méretű ablakokat nagy, kőablakokra cserélték le. Felépítették a könyvtárszárnyat, és gazdasági helyiségeket alakítottak ki. A palota termeiben megtekinthetjük a stílusukban változó püspöki dolgozószobákat és szalonokat. Az egyedi díszítésű barokk, biedermeier, neoreneszánsz és neobarokk bútorok, festmények, berendezési tárgyak segítségével elénk tárul a püspökök életvitele. Mindezek mellett megcsodálhatjuk a nagy gonddal kialakított mediterrán kert szépségeit. A mélyen a föld alá nyúló, kétszintes, hatalmas térben a látogató megtekintheti a pince eredeti hordóit, és megkóstolhatja borait, megismerhetlek ezáltal a Pécsi Egyházmegye nagy múltú borkultúráját."

You have to by the ticket when you walk up. I think it’s unnecessary. Nothing special to show. Also, why they give this information after you claimed up to the that hill? Why does Zsolnay family cannot afford to have something like that without extra charge. Not a nice feeling to make a business out of it….

Poppy S — Google review
It's creepy to say, that a burial object is beautiful, but it's a fact, indeed. Based on my convincement, that the porcelain made in the Zsolnay Manufactory is one of the best and the most beautiful in the world, it already assumes high standards. This burial chamber of the Zsolnay family is a testimony of a new techniques called "eosin". It's made from different metals and depending on which metal is dominating this "mixture", it begins to play in its respective colour (green, yellow, silver, red, purple, etc.) when lighted. The sarcophagus of Miklós and Terézia Zsolnay (husband and wife, who established the manufactory) is covered with "eosin". Their sarcophagus is situated in the middle of the basement, while the floor over it has a big circle opening. On the 21st of December each year - when the winter starts - at 11:00 the sunshine is lightning through one of the windows directly on the altar, which reflects different colours of the "eosin" into the basement - it's a unique "light game", which makes this burial chamber even more mysterious. Of course, for this phenomena a clear sky is absolutely necessary (without clouds). After nine years in a row, it was the very first time, we could observe this magnificent "light game" and to realize "the secrets of the "eosin"".

I wish it was opened not just on weekends! Super cool place. Forest around is very beautiful. I'm going mainly to alpine routes, there're so many of them. There're some for children + 2 for teenagers or very beginning adults + 4 (maybe more) for adults. And about 5 zip line routes. All of them between trees where it's not hot even at +35. I absolutely love the variety and the location. It's the best park with alpine routes I've been to. P. S. Pretty comfortable to reach by bus.

This place is beautiful. inside the forest they have a forest coaster! It was really fun I even get on it again and again! The entrance was 3450ft in autumn. You can play a lot of arena, but in the fall to winter season some of the arena close due to the slippery conditions (like the donut slide and shooting). But the forest coaster is still open and is a must!

WOW, truly a unique place. It's run by the Forest management company so it's not a traditional entertainment business. It provides things to do for the whole family, one of the best forest zipline and climbing challenge park I have ever seen, a nice summer bob track, pedal go-kart, and dozens of fun and educational programs from kids. Ages 3(?) and up. It also has forest trails with signs in Hungarian and English about the ecosystem and forest management.
Marton T — Google review
It is a very nice park having lots of attractions. There was plenty of places to go and have fun for all ages. The most notable is the tree climbing. There are many different courses to go for children and adults with different difficulties. The Bob is also very fun with a very high speed and short queues at some points. The restaurant was also clean and nice but portions were very plain with not even any salad. Apart from that the food still tasted good. The last attraction I went on the donut was a huge let down. There was one family taking all the donuts for a long period of time and there were no free ones. Also there are plenty of parking spaces.

Well worth the money spent on family tickets. It's a whole day entertainment with offers for all ages. ( climbing frames, slides, donut-slides, wall climbing, bob, tree-trails, football, ping-pong, ruding bull etc) You get unlimited rides on the bob and the queue is not too long on weekdays even during the summer break. The tree-trails are challenging but offer variety for all abilities. The guys explained the use thoroughly and were ready to assist or save thouse who got stuck or too tired.

Once a grand palace, it now showcases ancient ruins surrounded by lush vineyards that evoke the Renaissance era.
These ruins are located at the entrance to the world's smallest botanical garden. There's ice cream here behind locked bars... And a cave I think as well. Embark on a captivating journey through history at the Cella Septichora Visitor Centre, nestled in the heart of Pecs. This remarkable site showcases early Christian tombs and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000. As you explore this ancient burial ground, you'll be enchanted by its stunning 4th-century architecture and rich historical significance. Don't miss the chance to delve deeper into its secrets by booking a guided tour!
The Cella Septichora Visitor Centre (Cella Septichora Látogatóközpont) in Pécs is a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers a window into the ancient Roman past of the city. This unique attraction is centered around a collection of early Christian burial chambers and the remarkable seven-apse tomb (the "Cella Septichora"), showcasing exceptional examples of 4th-century architecture and art. Visitors can explore the underground complex and marvel at the well-preserved frescoes, intricate mosaics, and the layout of the tombs, all illuminated to enhance their beauty and detail. The Visitor Centre provides insightful exhibits and information about the history, culture, and religious practices of early Christians in the region. It’s an unmissable destination for history enthusiasts and anyone intrigued by the ancient heritage of Pécs.

came in because its a UNESCO site. the reconstruction and the software-rendered models were more informative to a layperson than the actual remnants. i wish the curator explained based off the real buildings a bit more. sometimes its hard to piece together which part of the model is the thing i’m seeing in front of me.. however i did find the wine grass, jewelry and buckles that were found in these burial tombs interesting, something a bit more relatable.
Miranda — Google review
In such an important archaeological site which is a UNESCO world heritage, the visitor center was designed to show the site with the least intervention needed. The site consists of multiple burial chambers that date back to early christian times (4th century). The visitor center is equipped with a glass roof to show it from outside, 3D visualizations to explain the original shape of the structures, and hanging metal pathways that are not touching the original ground. I think Cella Septichora is a successful example of protecting and presenting a valuable ancient site.
Modar A — Google review
The Roman Christian catacombs beneath Pécs were a truly eye opening and enrapturing experience. The necropolis has seen has extraordinary preservation such that ancient paintings are still visible in colour, and the infrastructure of the various tombs and crypts is discernibly intact. A truly engrossing and tangible dive into the history of Pécs and the museum built around the ruins offers a very intimate viewing experience for it.
Haseeb — Google review
Cella Septichora is basically a pretty big (actually the biggest) burial chamber of one reach citizen of the Roman Imperium. It's discovered in the 19th and 20th century, but made visible around the time, it received the status "World Heritage" in 2000. I'm not sure, if the idea to make it to a "Visitor Center" was very well. Because, it's "just" an entrance to some of the chambers from the 04th century and not a "tourist information", what the name would let us suppose. I'm pretty sure, that the idea, to connect all the - up to the establishing this centre - discovered burial chambers from the period above is just fantastic! Imagine: all the chambers are under the today's earth level - but, on the level of the 04th century - connected with each other. You have so the feeling, to walk in an medieval cemetery. My "small problem" is even that: I'm unable to live through, as the 04th century would be right now... And I seriously don't know why is that so... There are many very good videos (simulations) shown on screens on spots all over the "under the earth complex", which help you visualize the period of building this chambers.

Visitors can explore the Nagyharsany Sculpture Park in the lower section and enjoy a peaceful picnic at the nearby park.
One of the best managed gardens you'll find in town. Very cheap entry (we paid 1200 HUF for 2 people), there's a nice fountain with drinking water, bathrooms are clean, and you can walk around the perimeter easily in 1-1:30 hours.

Beautiful and up kept garden, wide variety of plants. I imagine it's the nicest around May when it's all in bloom. There are stairs everywhere and it's pretty steep at some points. At the feet of the garden there is a big park for picnic and a huge playground for kids to get lost in for hours. The view is breathtaking from the ruins of Tettye. The cave is also worth a visit, we'll see it with the kids one day 😁

In 1908, the artist from Pécs Ede Greits made copies of Tiepolo in its interior. The church organ was made in the local factory of Angster. A convent and a hospital were also built next to the church. The church is not an independent parish office, the administration of Pécs-Belvárosi RK. The parish originates. Nestled on Kaptalan utca, affectionately known as the street of museums by locals, the Modern Hungarian Gallery is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. This vibrant space showcases an impressive array of Hungarian art from 1850 to the present day, spanning multiple floors and featuring styles from impressionism to contemporary works.
A great overview of Hungarian painting from the late 1800s onwards. The three floors of galleries are well hung and well lit; there are excellent written explanations of each room in English as well as Hungarian.

Interesting collection, but please, please let us breath! As soon as I paid for the ticket at the entrance, a lady was assigned the task to follow me through the whole museum. She thoroughly watched every single one of my moves from the first to the last moment, an oppressive behavior that clearly made the experience difficult to enjoy. It even reached comical proportion at times such as when the lady stood so close to me that I couldn't even read the paintings' caption. In decades of museum visits across the world, I've had my faire share of zealous museum keepers (especially in former Socialist Republics), but the Pécs Modern Gallery clearly emerges as the most oppressive museum experience in my life. As noted by someone else : the policy appears to target foreigners. Indeed, the Hungarians visiting the museum at the same time me were left to wander entirely unsupervised. She followed me, only me. I hated the experience. Which, really, is a shame, since the collection is genuinely interesting! I was particularly impressed by the collection of local tüzzománc from the 70's. If you're a foreigner planning to visit the museum, please go but expect to be treated like a professional thief.

(Translated by Google) As we cross the gate, a magical, almost untouched landscape unfolds before us, where nature and history merge. Mecsek has always been one of my favorite hiking spots. The landscape is varied, forested, hilly and offers a different experience at every time of the year. In summer, the green forests and fresh air are wonderfully refreshing, while in winter, the snow-covered landscape creates a magical atmosphere. Mecsek gate is a great starting point for hikers, as the area offers many hiking trails and attractions. The mountains, forests and nearby caves all offer special experiences and can be an exciting adventure for anyone. Everyone is guaranteed to find the right program for them, be it easy walking routes or more serious tours. Here, at the gates of Mecsek, I feel as if we are falling into another time and space, where the world spins a little slower and there is calm and harmony in every small detail. The experiences here mean not only hiking, but also inner replenishment, as every segment of nature contributes to deepening the beauty and silence inherent here.

The show itself was moderately interesting. The presentation was in a way that sounded interactive (questions to the audience etc.), but the presenter totally ignored any of the kid's responses (not our kids, I just noticed). Also, do not buy the tickets online, it is a ripoff. We'd have to pay 18% more than the base price, and you cannot use most of the discounts. I bought the tickets on site, and it was a good move. The lady at the till was very kind and helped us with the discounts. Instead of paying HUF 22000 for the show only (9 people), we ended up paying HUF 23500 for the planetarium *and* the science exhibition together.

Because the show was made even more special for us (and I think for others too) by a family who were inside with a 1-2 year old child. No, there was no older sibling. Just them and a grandparent. The little child shouted and talked throughout the show, complaining several times to get out. Mom and Dad didn't give in, they stayed. The place should first and foremost pay attention to not letting such small children in. Of course, ticket sales are definitely important. We planned to see more shows with our school-aged child, but we won't be going back. Persze a jegybevétel biztosan fontos. Apolló Mozi Pécs is a charming little art cinema nestled in the heart of Pécs, renowned for its unique atmosphere and dedication to showcasing international films that often go unnoticed in mainstream theaters. As the oldest movie theater in the city, it has undergone significant modernization while retaining its authentic character. Visitors can enjoy a diverse selection of films from various cultures, making it a delightful spot for cinephiles seeking something different.
It's a nice little cinema with it's authentic look and feel. It has great variations of movies that you will not be able to see in big cinemas in Pécs :)
Máté Á — Google review
It's a sweet and small art cinema in the middle of Pécs. Generally, it's the oldest "movie theater" in the City, which has been totally renewed and modernized during the last decades. This cinema offers movies from different countries about diverse cultures and groups of people, which basically aren't shown in other "main stream" cinemas... Also, they screen movies on country-related festivals, like those from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Spain, France, Italy, Iran, India, Thailand, Japan and so on, where we get the opportunity to watch the newest movies from these countries in original languages, with Hungarian - and partly English - subtitles.

Cool place where most of the movies are show with original dubbing and Hungarian subtitles. There was no way to get popcorn though (we've almost got our head torn down for the thought, haha!) but could bring food and drinks inside from a shop nearby. The air conditioning was far too cold and windy, but the picture was sharp and the sounds perfect (in the little room). Was a fun experience, just right before their summer holidays.

(Translated by Google) We booked a bachelor party for 13 people. Our reservation time was changed 30 minutes before arrival, to 35 minutes later... It's not a tactical issue... When we arrived, due to the lack of parking, we hunted for free spaces. Walking inside, we didn't suspect anything. When we got there, we were faced with an abandoned human-sized weedy area that put blood bears' hideouts to shame. Unfortunately, we didn't bring a brush cutter or a chain saw. The young man who accepted me (he was correct and kind) indicated that there was a small problem. The number of weapons was 8 (we booked for 13 people), half of them were not even charged to working pressure, and the clothes (they had already pulled them up in front of us once or twice that day) smelled of musty and sweat. We stood stunned, "what will happen now?", we debated, thanking the opportunity we would leave, but the gentleman tells us - Let me pay the entire reservation, this is the request of his boss. We asked, come on, let's talk to him. He doesn't communicate with us, he told the gentleman there. He followed his word, even referring to the police, he tried to get us to pay. We thanked him again for the opportunity and left. As far as I know, we have not received the booking fee back until writing my review. (Translated by Google) Today, the famous mining operation of the late István Aknai shows such a picture as the pictures show. Various organized player events are taking place in the area today. Unfortunately, the area is in ruins, and it can be said that it is even life-threatening in some places. The late mining plant began to be built at the request of the Danube Steamship Plant in 1906, and coal was produced from 1925. In its day, the modern plant operated until 1998, then it was left alone, later it came into foreign hands and was declared an industrial monument. The current owner does not take care of the preservation of the structure, nor of the renovation. It is very sad that all domestic deep-mining mines, including this one, were closed due to a government decision. An industrial monument should not look like today's István mine. :-( (Original) A néhai István aknai híres bányaüzem ma ilyen képet mutat amit a képek mutatnak. A területen ma különböző szervezett játékos rendezvények folynak. Sajnos a terület romos, mondhatni, hogy helyenként életveszélyes is. A néhai bányaüzem a Duna Gőzhajozási üzem kérésére kezdett épülni 1906-ban, szenet 1925-től termelt. :-(

The first round was enough for us to get into it, after that time just flew by. And the bullets. It was a great experience, thank you very much. (Original) Legtöbben először próbáltuk a paintballt.

(Translated by Google) It's not really about paintball. A wonderful industrial monument that is living its last hours because of vandals. Its honorary name is István akna mine site.

(Translated by Google) We went paintballing with a group of 13 people, the guns were still being loaded when we arrived, later several guns broke down during the game, and the worker had to run away to get extra compressed air. The track is a literal garbage dump, with weedy, spiky bushes, "obstacles" made of discarded tires, and human excrement in some places. The boundaries of the course are not marked, in the vegetation you can see the opponent 10 meters away, on the wild, unmown paths even the tiniest bush branch provides excellent cover and it depends on blind luck who manages to shoot through the branches first. It is impossible to put the masks on glasses, there was only one mask with a slightly larger glass, so some people had to play without glasses. There are no two different colored vests, giving one team a significant advantage. Unpretentious, amateurish, uncaring organization, for so much money it's downright outrageous. Despite this, we had a good time, but unfortunately this was not the fault of the organizers.

(Translated by Google) We just came out of the new Harry Potter room, the experience is very fresh and we can only speak of it in superlatives. I would like to tell you all the surprises that await the players, but that would only spoil the experience. Let it be enough that every detail of the room is of fantastic quality, not an imitation of a B-category Temu. The puzzles are moderately difficult and very logical. I think fans won't even want to leave the room when they're done.

(Translated by Google) We have tried two rooms so far, both exceeding our expectations. Escape from Alcatraz was excellent for teamwork and communication, and we managed to escape in style, 14 seconds before the end of the game :) And Váraz köz provided the greatest Harry Potter experience, with brilliantly invented puzzles and exceptionally high-quality equipment and sets. Even though we got out of there, we really didn't want to leave the field. It was literally a magical experience.
