Villa Palagonia is a 16th-century patrician villa located in Palagonia, Sicily. Built in 1715, it is a prime example of baroque suburban architecture and was a popular destination during the Grand Tour era. The villa's eccentricity lies in its numerous statues adorning the walls, depicting various creatures and human-like figures. Its curved facade and ornate interior, including the famous gallery of mirrors, add to its allure.
What a remarkable and unusual place! Totally worthwhile visiting. Quite unique in many different ways. Very quiet in the mornings so you have the whole Villa for yourself which adds to the experience.
Gonzalo — Google review
Stunning villa, worth visiting. Unfortunately you can only see a part of it. The largest room is absolutely amazing.
Alexandra P — Google review
A privately owned villa, open to the public. Fabulous example of baroque architecture and fascinating statues adoring the building and surrounds. Reasonably priced entrance fee which goes towards maintaining the Villa and grounds. Parking in the general area, no specific parking area. Take note of in seasone and out of season opening times.
Cheryl T — Google review
This is a fantastic place to check out a little history! The garden is lovely and the house is wonderful! Be sure to plan your visit to fit within the times they’re open!!
Karl G — Google review
Nice place. I wish it was more open. A single room is beautiful but too little to see
Andrei V — Google review
We were alone in the villa, so it’s not crowded at all during the week. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere, and the statues are both fascinating and scary(at times)
Artem L — Google review
It is a beautiful circular enclave. The wild garden makes an intringuing cornice to the villa which is beautiful inside and out. Only a small section of the interior is open to the public but it is worth the trip. The ceiling of the squarish marble room is made with a mirror parchwork that is now pewter gray but, in its day, must have been sparkling at any hint of light. The sculptures perched on the garden walls survey the garden and the few tourists still are intriguing and beautiful in their own odd way.
Laura M — Google review
There was a group of schoolkids at Villa Palagonia. Interesting old place ... you can imagine how magnificent it used to be. Funny sculptures on the garden wall.

(Translated by Google) My husband and I are from Rome, every time we go to Sicily we never miss the opportunity to participate in the celebration of Holy Mass in this parish. The parish priest whose name unfortunately we do not know always manages to convey to us his faith, the presence of God and it is a great gift for our soul. The wonderful thing (now increasingly rare) is the possibility of being able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist in both species... How much grace do the people who are part of this community have. We pray for this priest, for his sanctification and we entrust everything to the sweet heart of Mary. Thank you Father... pray for us so that the Lord may grant us a grace.

(Translated by Google) A disappointing experience and a lack of professionalism. Yesterday, I went into Cafè Duomo to buy two 0.5L bottles of water, leaving a €5 note on the counter. The staff took the money without issuing a receipt, and as I was leaving, no one called me back to give me any change. An unpleasant experience that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, both for the lack of customer service and the impression of a lack of transparency. A shame, because honesty and kindness would be enough to transform a simple purchase into a positive experience. (Translated by Google) We arrived as a group to eat, there was a table available just for the children to sit on and that was fine with us. Although we specified to the lady that we would eat quickly even standing up, she still arranged for us to have tables and chairs. So far, so good! It's a shame that the lady provided this service to make us pay 1.50 cover charge per person even though not even napkins were brought to the table. We asked for a saucer and they weren't provided. No cutlery! Takeaway food paid for at the table. As if that wasn't enough, while we were still eating the lady asked us to get up because she had to give the table to other people. The lady, I presume she is the owner, was incredibly rude! Very small and empty spleen sandwiches! Raw french fries! Once upon a time it was perhaps the best... now there is certainly better! Not to return.

Bad customer service. They open at 7 pm on Sunday. I had to raise my hand every time I wanted something. So many guys working there, but nobody cares. After I finished my panuzzo, I wanted some dessert. The waiter didn't ask me if I want a dessert and caffè, so I had to ask him what they have. He brought me the list and did not came back to ask if I chose something. After 10 mins of waiting, I asked for the bill. Another waiter came and didn't ask me if I want to pay cash or card. So he brought me the bill and I had to go to pay inside. There are so many guys doing nothing.

Perfect place for trying the local street food, which tends to change from town to town. I cannot fault any of the food that was served to us, mostly cooked in a wood fired oven.

I was disappointed at the pizza in Bagheria after my favorite place went from wood burning to gas ovens. THEN we found this place. How I missed it I don't know since it sits in the plaza I got married at. What can I say good pizza. Nice crust. 5 stars.

Fine dining restaurant
Seafood restaurant
"I Pupi" is a sophisticated restaurant that offers a modern take on Sicilian cuisine in an elegant and minimalist setting. The ambiance features neutral tones and lava stone floors, creating a graceful dining experience. The restaurant is known for its excellent raw fish dishes paired with various salts and flavored oils, as well as reinterpretations of Sicilian street food such as spaghetti with urchins, parsley chlorophyll, and stigghiola made with tuna and cuttlefish.
One of the best meals we had in Sicily! Raised the bar on the local ingredients where every dish had the right level of creativity without sacrificing flavor. Service was impeccable. The chef decides on the dishes to serve you but when I saw one of the dishes another table had I was very jealous. I mentioned it to the server and they ended up serving me that too! The best dish was definitely their version of a bruschetta. Just wow.
Foo M — Google review
Everything was remarkable. Our testing menu included 10 dishes and took over three hours, so make sure you allow plenty of time to fully experience this restaurant. For someone who grew up in Sicily it was a pleasure to taste so many flavours that reminded me of my childhood and of typical dishes that are made in completely different and creative way. Friendly service. Would definitely go back 😊
Sergio — Google review
Food was super creative, unconventional without being absurd. We ordered individual dishes rather than the tasting menu. The risotto and anchovy ravioli were two standout dishes, but everything was delicious. They supplement the main courses with small interludes of tasty bites. Even though the ordered portions are small, enough gets brought to the table to make it a very fulfilling meal. Service was immaculate, attentive and professional without being intrusive. Prices are fair considering the quality and originality. The place is tucked into an unexpected neighborhood and Google Maps may send you the long way around to get there, but we were happy we went.
Clark W — Google review
Truly amazing experience! Everything was thought through - even down to the waitors' clothes matching the interior. We had the traditional tasting experience, presenting Sicilian classics but in a new way; either served in a completely different, interesting way (e.g. in the shape of Sicily) or using other ingredients but matching the original, intended taste. Fully deserving the Michelin star - and to a much more affordable price (compared to danish prices).
Jesper A — Google review
Creative dishes with a modern twist on Sicilian classics. Extensive wine list with knowledgeable sommelier, attentive wait staff and overall a good fine dining experience! We dined for around 3 hours, left feeling satisfied and very full! Definitely a great way to spend our last night in Sicily! Very pricey but nonetheless an experience in itself.
Jess P — Google review
The food was a very interesting interpretation of the traditional dishes BUT the LoCATION is EMBARRASSING!!!One of the reasons why I booked this restaurant was the description of the location mentioned also on Michelin guide as a Palazzo from the 18th century, but the restaurant is in an anonymous depressing room absolutely detached from the Palazzo that you don’t even get the chance to see. Really a shame! Furthermore, the dining room was extremely noisy for a Michelin-starred restaurant. Sound-absorbing panels should be a given.
Amaranta P — Google review
This restaurant is something very special. The combination of traditional Sicilian dishes with a modern touch creates an amazing flavour palette. Definitely worth the visit if you visit Sicily. The entire staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating.

Oh Stanley Tucci, you beautiful man, you. We never would have thought to venture out to Bagheria (an hour from our hotel in Cefalu) had it not been for Tucci featuring I Pupi on his "Searching For Italy" program. Leading up to our reservation (make sure to get one) at I Pupi, we began to wonder if it was really worth the Michelin star pricing. Were we going to regret spending the money? Well, the answer was a resounding "NO." Every bite at I Pupi was a delight. We were there for three hours and would have happily stayed for another hour. The service was the best I have ever experienced. The servers were so attentive and knowledgable about every single aspect of the dishes: where ingredients came from, the Sicilian connection to food, etc. We honestly felt like we learned a lot! I can't even tell you exactly what we ate, but it was all so, so yummy! If you're thinking about splurging on a meal while in Sicily, let it be this... and make sure to get one of the tasting menus!

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Lungomare di Aspra, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Spiaggia dei francesi. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Lungomare di Aspra is a charming fishing village that exudes picturesque charm and offers stunning coastal landscapes. As you stroll along the vibrant promenade, you'll encounter fresh fish stalls set up by local fishermen, alongside fruit and vegetable vendors lining the streets. The best time to visit is in the morning when the atmosphere buzzes with activity. The beach features designated swimming areas, although space can be limited at its center due to darker coarse sand.
It was a muggy day so not the best to get a first impression of a place. About half an hours walk from Bagheria train station. I'm sure if I came back on a sunny day it would be amazing. (Translated by Google) A fishing village with a picturesque flair. Beautiful coastal landscape. The fishermen have set up their stalls selling fresh fish. Fruit and vegetable sellers stand with their vehicles on the side of the road. It's best to go there in the morning. There are established bathing areas by the sea. But there is somewhat limited space on the beach in the center. Dark coarse sand. On the paved bank there are neat, clean berths on a kind of terrace, but on hard stone slabs. In summer the place is heavily visited. There are delicious hearty specialties in the bakery.

A sea front town with good character and views towards the mountains behind Palermo with the sweeping bay in the foreground. Specialty Museums
The Museo dell'Acciuga e delle Arti Marinare is a unique "living" museum where visitors actively participate in the experience. The passionate performer, Michelangelo, engages visitors in completing the performance, creating an unforgettable encounter. Situated in a historically rich area of Sicily known for "acciuga," the museum boasts a vast collection of artifacts from the region.
Wonderful museum to visit! Michelangelo shares about the fishing industry in Sicily while taking you on a trip through time in Sicily. There was also another museum with art made by Emilio from recycled lottery tickets worth your time. There was no cost to these museums, a donation is asked at the end.

Truely a special and unique experience. We laughed, we cried, we were confused. But we will never ever forget our trip to the Anchovy Museum. If you visit one place in Sicily, make it this one!
Teresa B — Google review
It has been such a long time since I last visited that enchanting place. For many reasons, I kept postponing what I had promised to Mr. Balistreri… but finally, here I am. I will never forget the experience I had there. It isn’t really a museum: it’s alive! It’s a place that surrounds you, where Mr. Balistreri welcomes you like a magician. He shares stories, invites you onto the stage to sing with him and with others who happened to be there by chance. What was meant to be a short visit of just an hour became more than three… and we still didn’t want to leave. It was truly unforgettable. Without a doubt, it is one of the most magical places I have ever known. And as you can see from my travels, I have visited many places around the world. I hold the memory with joy, and I always recommend it to everyone I meet. Even though I am now far from my Sicily, I want Mr. Balistreri to know that the keychain he gave me is always with me,on the keys of the vehicle that takes me around the world. A small gift, but one that carries with it the warmth of that magical day.

One of the most unique experiences I have ever had in my 20 visits to Italy. I don’t know that I learned much about anchovies, but I learned so much about Sicilian life and culture, from life on the sea for generations to the danger of modern-day mafia. It is certainly worth driving an hour or more out of your way for this experience. I took a group of 12 friends (from Chicago and San Francisco) here during our trip around Sicily. We spent about two hours there, and it was fascinating to learn about life in Aspra and Porticello. By the end of the tour, several of us were in tears. Michelangelo, the head of the museum, puts on a show that will make your head spin. Pardon me for being cryptic about the experience, but it is surprising in a way that will make the most hardened cynic smile, laugh and maybe even shed a tear. Be sure to make a reservation in advance. We had a wonderful lunch after the museum at La Rotunda in Casteldaccia.

Visiting this museum was like stepping into another era. The owner, Michaelangelo, was an incredible guide who didn’t just show us the exhibits — he made the history come alive. We were taken back in time to the fishing lifestyle of Sicily, learning firsthand about traditions and stories that shaped the community. Michaelangelo had us reenact scenes from the old days and it felt like we were part of a living history. At the end, he surprised us by putting together a black and white movie starring us! It was such a creative and unforgettable way to experience history and he was the absolute best host we could have asked for. If you’re looking for more than just a typical museum visit, this place is a must. It’s immersive, personal, and truly memorable.
Rachel B — Google review
My colleague and I are American professors that teach Culinary and Beverage Management in a Florida university. We were thrilled to visit this beautiful museum and learn from and spend time with Michelangelo. We especially enjoyed him sharing stories and singing beautiful Italian songs while playing traditional Italian musical instruments. There is so much history in Sicily and especially in this area. This is a place not to be missed on your next visit. Grazie!!!

I had an unbelievable experience today in this museum, which is rather than a museum an exquisite journey through Sicilian history. Michelangelo takes you on a trip telling stories about the history of anchovy fishing and the local town, showing rooms of beautiful artifacts, singing Sicilian music, and playing beautiful cinematography. It is a unique experience, and one of the best things one can do in Sicily. Thanks again to all the people involved with this museum!

Today I went to visit this museum.I’d like to tell you what feelings I went through but no words could explain what my heart felt and how greatful I am for meeting a wonderful person like Michelangelo Balistreri who caught my attention and led me through memories of my past and made me feel my mum close to me once again. Thank you so much. I really don’t know how to explain this experience but to whoever reads this message, hope you have your chance of visiting this incredible place and meeting Michelangelo. Frances

Spiaggia dei Francesi is a hidden gem nestled in a picturesque cove near Palermo, Sicily. This stunning 50-meter bay boasts crystal-clear waters and a rocky seabed, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling enthusiasts. While its beauty attracts both locals and tourists alike, the small size of the cove means it can get crowded quickly during peak season—so arriving early is key to securing your perfect sunbathing spot.

Spaghetteria Il Corallo has received mixed reviews from customers. Some have complained about the quality of the food, slow service, and uncomfortable dining conditions. However, others have praised the restaurant for its good food, generous portions, and reasonable prices. The seafood appetizer and Spaghetti Vongole are particularly recommended by some visitors. Despite some negative feedback on the house wine, many patrons appreciate the excellent fish dishes and friendly service at this establishment with a sea view.

We hired sunbeds for a day (€18 per bed including umbrella) and it was the best decision. The place is new, clean and has a calm esthetic. It has clean toilets, and showers outside. We took the train from Palermo to Bagheria and it was a 19 minute walk from the station but definitely worth it. We called a day before to make the reservation for sunbeds. Canopia - Habitat Gastronomico is a beloved restaurant in the area, known for its passionate owners Tamara & Ezio who take pride in showcasing Sicilian food and wines. The six-course meal is highly recommended, offering a delightful dining experience with engaging interactions and conversations. Guests rave about the delicious tataki and exceptional pizza, along with the impressive aperitivo.
By far the best place we ate during our three week trip to Italy! Beyond the incredible views of Palermo, the Mediterranean, and the sea cliffs - not to mention the wonderfully curated ambience - all dishes were presented beautifully and tasted amazing. The ragu, pizza, and lobster pasta were particular standouts. The cocktails were perfect and the service was exceptional and cheery (especially considering they had two waiters out sick). The chef thought he had over-salted a pasta and refused to serve it to us, but made another within 3 minutes and it was unbelievably good. 12/10!

Update - owner says this is a fake review, so I have added photos from our lunch there today. Would gladly give this a zero stars if possible. Food was average compared to other local meals, but the service was beyond terrible. No one was particularly accomodating, but the hostess in particular seemed to take pride in her poor service. By the looks of other reviews this seems to be a trend! Avoid this restaurant unless you’d like to have a terrible experience.

The view is nice, food was average but not worth the price. Cocktails were terrible (had a daiquiri which was served in a tumbler on ice and thus way too watery and a dive bar quality boulevardier). The service was outrageous. The waitress seemed to really hate her job. The other one was kind of nice sometimes but absolutely shredded the fish trying to fillet it. Would not recommend.

I was fortunate enough to accidentally stop at Canopia while driving along the coastline in Sicily in search of a venue for my daughter's 18th birthday celebration. It was a Friday afternoon and the restaurant was not actually open, but we knocked on the door and were able to chat with the staff and make a booking for lunch the next day. My original intention was to limit our menus to pizzas (I had a group of 12 and wanted to be $$ conscious!), but as it turns out they only have the pizza oven operating at dinnertime. No loss for us; we instead requested two pasta dishes from which our guests could choose: - Spaghetto quadrato vongole e ricci - Calamarata al ragu’ di maialino We started with a bit of bruschetta for the table (Sicilian tomatoes could probably end armed conflicts on a global scale!) and then the selection of pastas; my only regret was not requesting a portion of each because both were absolutely wonderful. Overall the experience at Canopia was incredibly memorable. The views are unparalleled, the service was both professional and intimate and the food was elegant and delicious without breaking our budget. I can't thank the staff enough for the perfect afternoon and the very special experience for my daughter, topped off by a gratis dessert (Mousse al cioccolato fondente) and a slightly off-key rendition of Happy Birthday :).

delicious food, friendly staff and incredible views! The tataki was divine and the pizza was one of the best we’ve had in Sicily - perfect light base, juicy mozzarella and fresh tomato sauce. Yummmyyy Also the aperitivo was great too! Arancini norma is a brilliant!

I am a pizza lover. I can confirm that this restaurant makes the best pizza I have ever eaten. In addition, there is amazing service with a beautiful view of Palermo and the endless sea.

When we came at 6.30 pm (opening time in google maps) the staff told us in a very unfriendly way that they are going to open at 7 pm. We waited till then and came back to eat. At that time they sent us away again with telling us, that they changed to 8 pm. Nobody was even interested in helping us or making us feel welcome. Very bad service. Can’t rate the food as we never returned.
