Villa Palagonia is a 16th-century patrician villa located in Palagonia, Sicily. Built in 1715, it is a prime example of baroque suburban architecture and was a popular destination during the Grand Tour era. The villa's eccentricity lies in its numerous statues adorning the walls, depicting various creatures and human-like figures. Its curved facade and ornate interior, including the famous gallery of mirrors, add to its allure.
What a remarkable and unusual place! Totally worthwhile visiting. Quite unique in many different ways. Very quiet in the mornings so you have the whole Villa for yourself which adds to the experience.
Gonzalo — Google review
Stunning villa, worth visiting. Unfortunately you can only see a part of it. The largest room is absolutely amazing.
Alexandra P — Google review
A privately owned villa, open to the public. Fabulous example of baroque architecture and fascinating statues adoring the building and surrounds. Reasonably priced entrance fee which goes towards maintaining the Villa and grounds. Parking in the general area, no specific parking area. Take note of in seasone and out of season opening times.
Cheryl T — Google review
This is a fantastic place to check out a little history! The garden is lovely and the house is wonderful! Be sure to plan your visit to fit within the times they’re open!!
Karl G — Google review
Nice place. I wish it was more open. A single room is beautiful but too little to see
Andrei V — Google review
We were alone in the villa, so it’s not crowded at all during the week. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere, and the statues are both fascinating and scary(at times)
Artem L — Google review
It is a beautiful circular enclave. The wild garden makes an intringuing cornice to the villa which is beautiful inside and out. Only a small section of the interior is open to the public but it is worth the trip. The ceiling of the squarish marble room is made with a mirror parchwork that is now pewter gray but, in its day, must have been sparkling at any hint of light. The sculptures perched on the garden walls survey the garden and the few tourists still are intriguing and beautiful in their own odd way.
Laura M — Google review
There was a group of schoolkids at Villa Palagonia. Interesting old place ... you can imagine how magnificent it used to be. Funny sculptures on the garden wall.

Villa Cattolica, also known as Museu Rinatu Guttusu, is a must-visit destination resembling a castle with its towering crenellated walls. Since 1973, it has been home to a permanent exhibition of the renowned artist Renato Guttuso and serves as the headquarters of the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art.
Came to see an exhibit “The Caretti Siciliani” and to my surprise, it was free of charge. Wish they had guides to explain more about the history of them.
Concetta L — Google review
It is an ok place to visit. More about art, paintings rather than a villa beauty. Not crowded and nice views.
Andrei V — Google review
It is a wonderful museum. Officials are very kind and explain the detailed information about the works of art in the museum. Especially Guttuso's works are very impressive. Must see.
Funda K — Google review
Very frustrating as this place marketed as Villa Cattolica and museo Renato Guttusso which it was it is- an art museum! It Has low key promotion and visibility for such an amazing place! Fantastic villa ( unfortunately looks out onto a derelict rusting gas works) with huge rooms to display beautiful art from a major Sicilian artist ( google him) plus a temporary exhibition space. Enthusiastic staff ( you need some Italian) and a low admission fee, free parking outside. A great cultural experience, have patience and seek it out
Philip H — Google review
Super!
Vincenza V — Google review
Wonderful, impressive palace and exterior of the building. Guttusos includes paintings, prints, sculptures are very strong, and often personal. Also shows Guttuso's personal art works collection, and some bits of Sicilian must, like Giambecchina's. Take a good couple of hours to enjoy. Better during the day so can take daylight pics. Shocking the close cement factory just visible from many angles of the venue - very nice all together.
Settimo — Google review
Fabulous art and examples of the Sicilian carts, plus a wonderful exhibit of contemporary art of the period and style of Impressionist art.
Katie B — Google review
I visited this museum waiting to see some Gatusso pictures, video or so... But this is not the football player museum. LOL Even if this not football, you can find a great pieces of art, sculptures, and old furniture. The entry is a little bit expensive and you have to ask for the timetable. Or have a look to the website.

Trattoria Don Ciccio in Bagheria has been open to the public since 1943, and it has been passed down through three generations. They have maintained the restaurant's reputation and showcased the excellence of the local cuisine. Every year, hundreds of tourists flock to this trattoria to taste the authentic flavors of their various meat and fish dishes. The staff provides great service, and despite minimal English skills, they offer 5-star hospitality.
Spent 25 days traveling all around the Sicilian island. This was the best trattoria. It’s where all the locals eat on a Sunday for lunch. Portions are generous and the food delicious. I had the Carrettiera (vegetarian) and my husband the pasta with sardines (he said it tasted like it had been simmering all day). We also had a side of house potatoes (omg, you must order these). Homemade cooking at its finest. Pastas were only €9 each. Wish we could eat there every day!

My Sicilian food knowledge is limited still but I’m impressed by - Holly Molly pasta con sarde (I font use the word often but the best one I had so far) - The manual style menu hit my OCD nerve on spot - serve you boiled Egg and Marsala right when you get in door - all men operation, classical Sicilian family style restaurant Walk in ok, and portion are huge

This place was recommended on every guide of Bagheria and also by our hotel and it didn’t disappoint! They offered us a boiled egg and sweet wine at the beginning of the dinner, which was such a nice touch! The food was delicious and service was fast.
Silvia — Google review
Very sweet trattoria! Cozy and home made food! A real Italian experience in a plate! Very good prices as well!
Radena N — Google review
Traditional trattoria. I had the spaghetti alla carrettiera. It is a sauce with garlic, parsley and pecorino. It was perfect! They even give you a little apron to protect the clothes 😅
Isabelle F — Google review
Excellent food and experience! Our waiter was amazing with recommendations and spoke excellent English, recommended the best local options and what a local would eat. The wine pairing was excellent. The complementary boiled egg and sweet wine upon arrival was a sweet extra touch. The price was super reasonable as well. Overall highly satisfied with this restaurant and we hope to visit again when we come back to Sicily!
Mohammed M — Google review
Great Service, nice food, amazing stuff, even though they speak little English their hospitality is 5 star, if you want to try traditional sicilian food you should definitely pay them a visit.
Andrius S — Google review
A little gem of a trattoria, serving traditional Sicilian dishes at very reasonable prices. We were greeted with the locally traditional wine and boiled egg and the menu continued in this vein. Nothing fancy but fresh local food simply prepared. Grazie!

Food was oke. We were the only customers in the beginning with 3 waiters that just stood there. One of them was very friendly, but the other just stood there, smoking a cigarette. We had to wait for a very long time to get our food, while we were the only ones. The food was presented poorly, but tasted good!

During my enchanting stay in Sicily, I discovered U Bacio Bar, a true gem that quickly became my daily indulgence. This delightful spot offers an impressive array of vegan and gluten-free options alongside mouthwatering pastries and savory treats that are simply irresistible. The cartocci dolci was a standout favorite, with some sweets served warm and bursting with freshness—an experience hard to find back home!
Went practically every day during our stay in Sicily. 5 star bar with 5 star food. Vegan and gluten free options. The pastries and salty treats are to die for! Cartocci dolci one of my favorites. They are all so fresh. Some dolci even still warm once you bit into it! Can't find this type of quality in the United States. The espresso in the photo is a triple iced shot lol. Duplo ice cream is something I'll never forget

Sushi restaurant

Ristorante Yezi is a must-visit in Bagheria, offering amazing food and fast service. The tuna tataki comes highly recommended, and the authentic Asian cuisine is a refreshing change from the usual Italian fare. The owner's hospitality goes above and beyond, providing assistance to patrons unfamiliar with the area. While there may be some minor drawbacks, such as limited booking options for lessons and occasional lapses in customer service from the owner, the overall experience is fantastic.
'All you can eat' sushi, for 24 euros, mind blowing. Great variety with amazing quality at a very reasonable price. Definitely recommend it! ❤️🍣🍣🍣
Elena M — Google review
If you’re planning to visit Yezi, the first thing you should know is that it’s best to make a reservation or arrive early: the place is usually packed and the demand is very high. And for good reason: the food is exquisite, and every visit ends up being worth it, even if you have to wait a bit. Once you get a table, the digital ordering system is super easy and convenient. You can request whatever you like directly from there, and the best part is that the food arrives quickly, fresh, and in perfect condition. It makes the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. One thing to keep in mind is that when the restaurant is crowded, the noise level can get pretty high, making it a bit hard to have a quiet conversation. Still, the price-to-quality ratio is excellent, which more than balances things out. As a bonus, besides leaving with a happy stomach, you can also buy one of those solar-powered lucky cats they sell, and at the end of your meal you’ll always get a fortune cookie, a fun touch that rounds out the visit. All in all, Yezi is a solid choice for sushi lovers: amazing flavors, fast service, and little details that make you smile.

Absolutely one of the best restaurants I've eaten in. In fact, it's not just about the great service and kindness I've encountered, but also the potential I've seen. There's a wonderful ice cream parlor, a great bar with alcohol and a private radio station playing along to everything. There are baked sweets, cakes and pies that I've never seen anywhere else. If I were looking for a room, I'd definitely go to their hotel. I hope that someday I'll be able to stay for a bowl of ice cream that you rarely find anywhere else.

This place looks the part however was super busy when we went which was almost off putting as we couldn’t really browse or sample the gelato which as tourists is part of the experience. the guy serving was friendly but basically forced us to order from the table / rushing us which took away from our overall experience (the only gelato place during our visit that didn’t want us to order from the bar) i get they were busy but it’s nice to see what you’re ordering rather than picking from a menu.. The whole family preferred the vibes and service at U Bacio bar which is right next door as they allowed us to sample and take our time and was more enjoyable..

(Translated by Google) A disappointing experience and a lack of professionalism. Yesterday, I went into Cafè Duomo to buy two 0.5L bottles of water, leaving a €5 note on the counter. The staff took the money without issuing a receipt, and as I was leaving, no one called me back to give me any change. An unpleasant experience that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, both for the lack of customer service and the impression of a lack of transparency. A shame, because honesty and kindness would be enough to transform a simple purchase into a positive experience. (Original) Esperienza deludente e poca professionalità. The Museo dell'Acciuga e delle Arti Marinare is a unique "living" museum where visitors actively participate in the experience. The passionate performer, Michelangelo, engages visitors in completing the performance, creating an unforgettable encounter. Situated in a historically rich area of Sicily known for "acciuga," the museum boasts a vast collection of artifacts from the region.
Wonderful museum to visit! Michelangelo shares about the fishing industry in Sicily while taking you on a trip through time in Sicily. There was also another museum with art made by Emilio from recycled lottery tickets worth your time. There was no cost to these museums, a donation is asked at the end.

Truely a special and unique experience. We laughed, we cried, we were confused. But we will never ever forget our trip to the Anchovy Museum. If you visit one place in Sicily, make it this one!
Teresa B — Google review
It has been such a long time since I last visited that enchanting place. For many reasons, I kept postponing what I had promised to Mr. Balistreri… but finally, here I am. I will never forget the experience I had there. It isn’t really a museum: it’s alive! It’s a place that surrounds you, where Mr. Balistreri welcomes you like a magician. He shares stories, invites you onto the stage to sing with him and with others who happened to be there by chance. What was meant to be a short visit of just an hour became more than three… and we still didn’t want to leave. It was truly unforgettable. Without a doubt, it is one of the most magical places I have ever known. And as you can see from my travels, I have visited many places around the world. I hold the memory with joy, and I always recommend it to everyone I meet. Even though I am now far from my Sicily, I want Mr. Balistreri to know that the keychain he gave me is always with me,on the keys of the vehicle that takes me around the world. A small gift, but one that carries with it the warmth of that magical day.

One of the most unique experiences I have ever had in my 20 visits to Italy. I don’t know that I learned much about anchovies, but I learned so much about Sicilian life and culture, from life on the sea for generations to the danger of modern-day mafia. It is certainly worth driving an hour or more out of your way for this experience. I took a group of 12 friends (from Chicago and San Francisco) here during our trip around Sicily. We spent about two hours there, and it was fascinating to learn about life in Aspra and Porticello. By the end of the tour, several of us were in tears. Michelangelo, the head of the museum, puts on a show that will make your head spin. Pardon me for being cryptic about the experience, but it is surprising in a way that will make the most hardened cynic smile, laugh and maybe even shed a tear. Be sure to make a reservation in advance. We had a wonderful lunch after the museum at La Rotunda in Casteldaccia.

Visiting this museum was like stepping into another era. The owner, Michaelangelo, was an incredible guide who didn’t just show us the exhibits — he made the history come alive. We were taken back in time to the fishing lifestyle of Sicily, learning firsthand about traditions and stories that shaped the community. Michaelangelo had us reenact scenes from the old days and it felt like we were part of a living history. At the end, he surprised us by putting together a black and white movie starring us! It was such a creative and unforgettable way to experience history and he was the absolute best host we could have asked for. If you’re looking for more than just a typical museum visit, this place is a must. It’s immersive, personal, and truly memorable.

My colleague and I are American professors that teach Culinary and Beverage Management in a Florida university. We were thrilled to visit this beautiful museum and learn from and spend time with Michelangelo. We especially enjoyed him sharing stories and singing beautiful Italian songs while playing traditional Italian musical instruments. There is so much history in Sicily and especially in this area. This is a place not to be missed on your next visit. Grazie!!!

I had an unbelievable experience today in this museum, which is rather than a museum an exquisite journey through Sicilian history. Michelangelo takes you on a trip telling stories about the history of anchovy fishing and the local town, showing rooms of beautiful artifacts, singing Sicilian music, and playing beautiful cinematography. It is a unique experience, and one of the best things one can do in Sicily. Thanks again to all the people involved with this museum!

Today I went to visit this museum.I’d like to tell you what feelings I went through but no words could explain what my heart felt and how greatful I am for meeting a wonderful person like Michelangelo Balistreri who caught my attention and led me through memories of my past and made me feel my mum close to me once again. Thank you so much. I really don’t know how to explain this experience but to whoever reads this message, hope you have your chance of visiting this incredible place and meeting Michelangelo. Frances

Nestled in the vibrant Kalsa district along the waterfront, Palazzo Butera is a stunning 17th-century gem currently undergoing an impressive renovation led by Milanese art collector Massimo Valsecchi. Set to reopen as an art gallery next year, this historic building is already making waves as a venue for Manifesta, showcasing contemporary art in its evolving spaces.
A truly impressive collection of art in a truly impressive building. Palazzo Butera oozes of good taste - in the way it’s been restored, furnished, and taken care of. All the exhibited works are from The Francesca and Massimo Valsecchi collection and they are some of the best I have seen on my travels. The building itself is awe-inspiring - the terrace, the lush greenery throughout, most notably the jacaranda tree, the big blossomed Solandra, palm trees and many more; and, of course, the views from the top terrace, The Torrino Panorama. I could have easily spent a full day at the Palazzo, but was unfortunately short on time. I do hope to be able to come back and visit the place again. It has become a personal favourite!

Absolutely a must visit place. I 100% recommend this place. It was packed with art from earlier centuries to contemporary pieces. Many beautiful and unique pieces of furniture. The terrace is like cut out from the Bridgerton world and the rooftop view is otherworldly. I recommend you to plan your visit thoroughly so you'll have enough time to see everything properly (at least 2 hours because we had one hour and it was simply not enough in my opinion to let everything sink in).

Extraordinary! A wonderful union of old and modern art. The beautifully restored palazzo boasts a unique location with breathtaking views over Palermo Bay, the city itself, and the surrounding mountains. Don’t miss the rooftop walk and the terrace café — both are unforgettable experiences. We wish we never had to leave. Palermo needs more generous and refined patrons like the Valsecchi. Grazie!

An oasis of peace and aesthetics. A beautiful palazzo that seems to be more of an insider tip. Especially on the first and second floors, the combination of tradition and modernity is aesthetically stunning. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea? What's more, the building itself with its beautiful patio, great terrace and 365-degree panorama on the roof is almost worth a visit.

This was definitely the most beautiful place we visited in Palermo. The museum as a whole is truly breathtaking. It was a wonderful vacation — an amazing villa I had the chance to visit. Truly unique. A perfect harmony of nature and architecture, the beauty of Sicily itself, and the beauty of the building’s design — this villa, so carefully restored. At the same time, fascinating fragments of the original structure have been revealed and displayed, something you can admire and draw inspiration from. Beyond the exhibits themselves and the contemporary design pieces, you can simply enjoy the design of the spaces. It’s a blend of classical elements and modern restoration. In my opinion, it turned out absolutely stunning. And then there’s the magnificent rooftop structure and terrace, a place you simply don’t want to leave. Taking in the view, surrounded by this breathtaking garden… It’s just a pity there was so little time to spend at the villa. Simply being there is already inspiring.

Palazzo Butera is a stunning Baroque-style aristocratic palace located in the historic Kalsa district, facing the Mediterranean. Originally dating back to the late 17th century, it reached its present architectural grandeur in the mid-18th century. The palace was the residence of the noble Branciforte family, later the Princes of Butera, and its monumental size is second only to the Royal Palace of Palermo. Architecturally, Palazzo Butera impresses with its terraced facade overlooking the sea, frescoed halls with ceilings up to 7 meters high, and intricate stucco work and vibrant frescoes by artists such as Gioacchino Martorana and Olivio Sozzi. The palace features two grand 'piani nobili' (noble floors), both richly decorated and historically significant, offering a rare glimpse into aristocratic life in Sicily. The building harmonizes its historic Baroque elegance with contemporary art installations from its current function as a center for cultural innovation and art exhibitions. The palazzo has undergone extensive restoration, transforming it into a vibrant cultural hub that blends its glorious past with modern artistic expressions. It houses the remarkable art collection of Massimo and Francesca Valsecchi, who have revitalized the palace with a focus on artistic and social innovation. Here you can admire the dialogue between the ancient frescoed halls and contemporary artworks, making Palazzo Butera a must-visit for art lovers and those interested in Sicilian history and aristocratic heritage. Beyond its architectural beauty and art collection, the palace offers spectacular views from its long sea-facing terraces. Visiting Palazzo Butera provides an immersive experience into both Palermo's rich history and its dynamic contemporary art scene.

(Translated by Google) My husband and I are from Rome, every time we go to Sicily we never miss the opportunity to participate in the celebration of Holy Mass in this parish. The parish priest whose name unfortunately we do not know always manages to convey to us his faith, the presence of God and it is a great gift for our soul. The wonderful thing (now increasingly rare) is the possibility of being able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist in both species... How much grace do the people who are part of this community have. We pray for this priest, for his sanctification and we entrust everything to the sweet heart of Mary. Thank you Father... pray for us so that the Lord may grant us a grace.

Beach pavillion
Tre piscine Cala del Cuore, also known as Cove of the Heart, is a beautiful but somewhat overlooked paradise along the coast of Palermo. The path to reach it is not well-maintained and there's a risk of falling rocks, but this doesn't diminish the beauty of the sea. It's easily accessible from the road with clean water perfect for swimming. Although getting there can be complicated, visitors find it worth it for capturing stunning photos.
(Translated by Google) Easily accessible from the road, you can park and walk down. Rock shoes recommended. The water is very clean. (Original) Facilmente raggiungibile dalla strada, si può parcheggiare e scendere a piedi. Consigliate scarpette da scoglio. L'acqua è pulitissima.

Villa San Cataldu is a charming place with a slightly overgrown public park filled with citrus trees and ancient statues, creating a sense of gentle abandonment that contrasts the claustrophobia experienced in other villas. The opening hours are continuous until 7pm, which some visitors find inconvenient given the summer temperatures. However, it's an ideal spot for children to play among the orange and lemon trees, and it's not crowded even on Sundays.
(Translated by Google) A visit to the original baroque garden is worth it. A gem in the middle of the town of Baghiera, which otherwise doesn't have much to offer and is described as not beautiful even by locals. We could look at an interesting photo exhibition about Baghiera through the ages in the house and an exhibition of modern works by the local artist Maria Rocchetta in an adjacent building and spontaneously commissioned a picture from her. There is parking available opposite on the main street.

on Google it said it's open on Mondays, so I walked all the way along the terrible unsafe (for pedestrians) street leading to the villa. Everything for nothing given that it was closed. People working in the structure should realize that the most widely and internationally used platform to get information on opening times is now Google, so keeping that platform updated should be the bare minimum. I amended the time entry myself, hopefully that will avoid misunderstandings in the future.

Lungomare di Aspra is a charming fishing village that exudes picturesque charm and offers stunning coastal landscapes. As you stroll along the vibrant promenade, you'll encounter fresh fish stalls set up by local fishermen, alongside fruit and vegetable vendors lining the streets. The best time to visit is in the morning when the atmosphere buzzes with activity. The beach features designated swimming areas, although space can be limited at its center due to darker coarse sand.
(Translated by Google) Very nice for strolling. It was a muggy day so not the best to get a first impression of a place. About half an hours walk from Bagheria train station. I'm sure if I came back on a sunny day it would be amazing. (Translated by Google) A fishing village with a picturesque flair. Beautiful coastal landscape. The fishermen have set up their stalls selling fresh fish. Fruit and vegetable sellers stand with their vehicles on the side of the road. It's best to go there in the morning. There are established bathing areas by the sea. But there is somewhat limited space on the beach in the center. Dark coarse sand. On the paved bank there are neat, clean berths on a kind of terrace, but on hard stone slabs. In summer the place is heavily visited. There are delicious hearty specialties in the bakery.

excellent list town vibe, (suggestion to Aspra city officials: please do away with the cars on the street that line the sea. Make the entire promenade - pedestrian only)

A sea front town with good character and views towards the mountains behind Palermo with the sweeping bay in the foreground.
