Nanaimo is a city on the east coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Shopping mall
Shopping
Woodgrove Centre is a long-standing shopping destination located in the north end of the city. It boasts over 150 stores, making it the largest mall in the area, covering an impressive 724,713 square feet. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of retail chains, clothing stores, and even catch a movie at the cinema. The center also features a spacious food court and clean restrooms for added convenience.
A good size shopping mall in the area with lots of brand name stores and local shops. Food court, coffee places and seating areas. Lots of outside free parking as well. Recommended
Tomson C — Google review
Woodgrove Mall is a fantastic place to shop in Nanaimo! It has a great variety of stores, from fashion and home goods to tech and unique local shops, so there’s something for everyone. The layout is easy to navigate, and the mall feels bright and welcoming. It’s also nice to have plenty of food options, whether you want a quick snack or a sit-down meal. Parking is convenient, and the staff around the mall are always friendly. A really enjoyable shopping experience!
Kenneth L — Google review
I love this place. I live in the states unfortunately and don't get it often. In the past I've been lucky with having a cashier sell me a bag of gravy mix , I wish they would do that more readily. This one didn't here in Nanaimo! Too bad, I still love it
Julie V — Google review
Woodgrove Centre in Nanaimo is a fantastic place for a day out. It's clean, well-maintained, and has everything you need to get things done, whether you're shopping or just looking for a nice place to walk. The mall has a solid variety of stores, and I was pleased to see a Winners right there. The food court is a definite highlight, with plenty of diverse options to choose from—it's not just your typical fast food. The walking areas are spacious and well-lit, making it easy to get some exercise while you browse, and the washrooms are notably clean. For those with electric vehicles, the Tesla chargers in the long parking lot are a huge plus. The only small downside I found was with the parking lot itself. While it's very large and has plenty of space, finding a different exit can be a bit confusing. It seems like most people are funneled out through the same main roads, which can get a little busy. A better-marked or more varied exit strategy would be a helpful improvement. Overall, Woodgrove Centre is a great place to visit. It’s got a clean, modern feel with all the key amenities, and it’s a wonderful spot to spend a few hours. I highly recommend it for both shopping and a relaxing stroll.
J J — Google review
I came from Surrey and visited this mall I didn’t except much but this was such an amazing mall has so many stores and the food court was so great! Definitely will come here again loved it!
Pari C — Google review
This mall has a good number of brand stores, a movie theater, and even a connected Walmart, so you can find pretty much everything you need in one place. There’s a food court where you can grab a meal, but the dining options are a bit limited — I wish there were more variety to choose from!
JW K — Google review
I stop here for New York Fries pretty much anytime I go through Nanaimo. This time it was closed but Taco Bell came through. Compared to Campbell River this mall is impressive!
Benjamin C — Google review
Pretty much everything in one place. Not massive but decent. Recent reno. Clean modern feel. Means you don’t need to go to Vic to shop if your on the north or mid island. Lots of other great shopping near by including Costco, Cabellas, Chapters and all the other box stores.

Sushi restaurant
Nori Japanese Restaurant is a laid-back spot located in a strip mall, offering an array of innovative sushi rolls, seasonal Japanese specialties, and premium sake. The restaurant prides itself on using the freshest ingredients and meticulous attention to detail in every dish, resulting in classic Japanese flavors with impeccable presentation. Visitors rave about the top-notch quality of the dishes, making it a must-visit for those seeking authentic and delicious Japanese cuisine.
Perhaps we got lucky because our experience at Nori was beyond doubt the best! Our server was perfect and never missed a beat.. Watching the Sushi Chefs was most entertaining in itself! The hi’s and bye’s and unexpected banter was fun! I started with Oysters on the half.. Oh ya so good! Rolls presented like art work! A poke bowl that was unmatched from anything had before..And wait for it …Desert of deep fried ice cream! Holy! You have to go ..The experience shall amaze you..We shall return..
Jeffrey S — Google review
The restaurant is very popular and the food is delicious. The service is good, they refill green tea for free. You need to book a table in advance, especially for dinner. Despite the delicious sushi, it was hard to relax, a lot of noise, everyone sits close together. The interior is very simple. In my opinion, it is better to buy online and take away. There is plenty of parking.
Vlad S — Google review
First time visitor here from Vancouver. Will I come back? Most likely yes. Food: really good overall. The negikura roll was unlike anything I've had before. It was heavenly. Transcendent, dare I say, and only because it combines two of my favourite aspects of any sushi: ikura and negitoro. Unfortunately, the yosenabe udon (not pictured) was not flavorful at all and mostly just spicy. The regular spicy tuna roll (not pictured) was very good. The D.A.M. good roll was nice, but the rolls aesthetics were better than the taste. Nothing crazy, just simply good. Service: overall, good. A little inconsistent on the speed, maybe because of a busy lunch hour. Between placing the order and getting three rolls was around 10 minutes, but it felt like 5, it was so fast! But the yosenabe took about 30 minutes which felt like a long time. Each server was friendly and made sure our tea cups were full. Price: decent, maybe a bit on the high side. Two specialty rolls costed $42 before tax. They were, however, filling and delicious. Portion size: good. They don't cheap out on the portions here. Presentation: all the food was presented nicely, especially the specialty rolls. Nothing was sloppy when it comes to presentation. Final verdict: a gem to visit in nanaimo if you're craving good sushi. I would love to try some of their other items next time. The negikura was definitely a game changer for me and I will be ordering that one again for sure. Whoever came up with that idea deserves a raise!
Day V — Google review
Everything was absolutely delicious and fresh! The portions are big, and the service is quick and attentive. The staff are kind and welcoming — you really feel cared for here. They also serve complimentary green tea, which is very tasty and refilled as much as you like during your meal. The atmosphere is cozy, especially if you book a table by the window. It can get quite busy and a bit noisy on weekend evenings, so it’s not the most private place — but if you want truly good sushi, this spot is definitely worth it! 🍣🍵✨
Natalia V — Google review
The food was genuinely delicious, with each dish full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere added a lot to the warm, lively, and welcoming, making it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy a meal. I’ll definitely be returning because the overall experience was impressive. Just a tip: make sure to book in advance, as the place gets busy and you might end up waiting if you walk in.
Suraj N — Google review
The first night, we had a private booth. The second night, we had a table in the middle. Noise was rather loud, and other customers were fairly close. The third night, we sat at the counter and watched the sushi masters ply their trade. The food was excellent all three nights, except the tonkatsu was a little dry. Service was very good. My wife's favorite sushi restaurant.
Michael P — Google review
We recently visited Nanaimo and enjoyed some solid Japanese food. We tried the pineapple tempura, Catch the rainbow roll, and chicken yakisoba. While none of the dishes completely wowed us, they were all tasty and prepared well. The food here is good for Nanaimo standards, but it's not quite on the same level as what you'd find in the Lower Mainland. However, the real highlight of our meal was the service. Our server was exceptionally friendly and attentive, providing a top-notch experience from start to finish. They truly made our visit memorable.

WOW!! Hands down the best sushi I've ever had... I read reviews and was excited to try this but it really blew me away. Went for lunch, got the poke bowl lunch box and my partner got the Island Fever 2 roll. We both left so satisfied and had leftovers for dinner. Yum!!

Neck Point Park is a 14-hectare oceanfront park in Nanaimo, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Strait of Georgia and nearby islands. The park features a vast hiking trail system with some of the best ocean views in the area. Nearby attractions include Pipers Lagoon, known for its spectacular viewpoints and picturesque shorelines. This rocky beach is conveniently located just a short drive from downtown Nanaimo and offers clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling during warm weather.
Neck Point Park is gorgeous for walks and there are numerous trails to take. It takes you along the ocean and has many views of the inlets and rock formations. It rained today but I managed to get some shots of flowers, beach and the trees. You can walk at your own pace and there are view points throughout where you can admire what nature is all about. The trails are well laid and there are hills that some may require assistance getting up and down. Take it all in and enjoy one of exceptional parks in peaceable tranquility:)

There are many parks along the coastline, but Neck Point Park truly stands out and is definitely worth a visit. The trails wind along the waterfront, offering a mix of forest paths and open viewpoints—some with railings, but many that lead you right down to the rocky shoreline. It’s a great spot to explore at your own pace and get close to nature. On a clear day, the ocean views are absolutely stunning. There’s also a lovely picnic area conveniently located right next to the parking lot, making it perfect for a relaxing lunch with a view.
JJ — Google review
A great place to walk around! The views were incredible and the terrain was nice and easy. We saw lots of bunnies, a beaver and even a sea lion in the water. We walked around sunset and the views of the water and mountains were gorgeous! We had no issues with parking however the lot was somewhat on the smaller size.

Great place for. Quick and easy hike with breathtaking view. The park have several view point and all have stunning water view. There’s also sitting area all over the park. It is accessible via public transit. There is very limited parking spot so come early if you want to get a good place to park. Very windy when exposed close to the water. Perfect to do early morning or late evening for sunset view. 2 hours is enough to hike the area. There is restroom at the parking lot area, there’s no place to buy snack so bring your own. Highly recommend this place for a day trip when visiting Nanaimo, BC Canada.

Neck Point Park is one of the absolute gems of Nanaimo. The trails are easy to walk and take you along rugged coastline, with incredible ocean views at every turn. It’s a fantastic spot to watch for wildlife – I’ve seen sea lions playing just offshore, and on lucky days you might even spot whales passing by. The sunsets here are stunning, with the sky lighting up over the water in ways that make it hard to leave. Whether you’re out for a peaceful stroll, a bit of photography, or just want a quiet place to sit and take in the natural beauty, this park never disappoints. A must-visit in Nanaimo!
Bradley D — Google review
Absolutely a must see! The walk isn’t too long or difficult. It’s stunning along the whole path. So many photo ops. The parking lot of decent size and has washrooms. They even have wheelchair assess-ability to the water !!! We are visiting and so glad we were suggested this stop!!

Park, the pearl of Nanaimo or a romantic's dream. A very romantic place at sunset. In the soft light of the sunset, a great place for a photo shoot. Perfect for romantic dates and family walks at sunset. You can also meet the sunrise in this park, for those who like to get up early.

Nanaimo North Town Centre is a low-key indoor shopping center located in the newer neighborhood of North Nanaimo. This area offers moderately priced homes with ocean views, making it an attractive location for savvy homebuyers. The residential and commercial mix includes large box stores, family-run businesses, and a variety of housing options such as luxury homes, condos, townhomes, and gated communities.
It’s a small mall but have a lot of options to do. Very nice parking lot. I recommend ☺️

Nice mall. Needs more stores though. Quite empty since Sears shut down.

Nanaimo Town Centre is a beautiful mall with its multiple skylights! It has great potential as it is in a good location and has lots of parking. If it is aiming to be a “services” mall, it would be nice to have a Service Canada, a bank, a physiotherapy / massage / other therapy & naturopath services, and a health food store in there. An indoor playground, a small food court, a few more stores & kiosks for those waiting for appointments would also be great additions.

You ever wanted to see a mall designed almost entirely for the elderly? Well this is that mall. If you're over the age of 65 you'll probably like it. It has all the amenities older folks could want. Two separate medical clinics, old people fashion stores, a weird little art store, a overly expensive grocery store, and of course ramps. Ramps, ramps, and more ramps as far as the eye can see. Whether you're in a walker, wheel chair, or simply have old people legs these ramps ensure you can access any part of the mall. As for anyone younger than 65. There's a subway and a Fit-4-Less. Yep.

Beban Park is a vibrant community recreation hub that caters to all ages and interests. This expansive park boasts an impressive array of facilities, including indoor swimming pools, tennis courts, basketball hoops, soccer fields, and even an equestrian center. For those who love cycling or BMX riding, there are dedicated bike parks and tracks to explore. Families can enjoy the playgrounds designed for younger children while older kids might find them a bit simple for their adventurous games.
I offer Qigong classes at Beban Social Center. The rooms have doors that lead outside, so I can decide -depending on the weather- whether I want to hold my class outside on the grass or just walk back inside.

We were there during the Sunday of the VIEX (Vancouver Island Exhibition). The midway was smaller than Calgary's, but with a good number of the rides and games you'd expect. The walking was hard with big rocks, puddles and few manicured pathways. There were vendors selling handmade crafts, a ferret rescue, a crafts competition, and agriculture exhibits. Fine event on grounds that could use some work.
Frank M — Google review
Beautiful place to explore multiple things, such as pool, Gym, communities events and festivals, playgrounds and study rooms etc. Basically you can have everything under one roof. Good City Nanaimo!
VIVEK F — Google review
We came for the fun looking playground. My 10 year old found it too simple, because none of the structures connect, which makes it hard to play grounders, lava tag, and other games. The 8 year old mostly enjoyed it. We saw lots of other young children playing while we were here. The walking path is on-leash dog friendly, though dogs are not allowed in the playground itself. The walking path is also bike friendly, but I would only bring bikes for little ones. The big gazebo has 2 picnic tables. The space is fully fenced. The big trees were appreciated. There needs to be more benches for adults. The toilet was relatively clean. The few garbage cans were empty.

Excellent park! Went to the Kinsman trail beside it (nice, simple, flat trail in the shade of the trees). Big playground, sports field, and community center with gym, and pool! The pool area for small kids is great! There's a lazy river-current simulation at the back, nice gradual shallow end and warm water.

Shopping mall
Port Place Shopping Centre is a delightful destination primarily focused on dining, making it an ideal spot for food lovers. While shopping may not be the main attraction here, there are still plenty of reasons to stop by, especially if you're in need of a break during your travels. Nestled at the foot of Nanaimo Harbour, it's conveniently located near ferry services to Gabriola Island. If you find yourself waiting for a ferry and arrive early, Port Place offers ample free parking and various eateries to explore.
The best little plaza in the south! Great chocolate selection at London Drugs, Thrifty Foods’ produce section rocks, and Medical Arts. Centre is a lifesaver! Dollarama is well-stocked. Slice Pizza keeps you going for only $3.50 a slice!!! And relax and enjoy a warm drink at Starbucks!

This is an interesting place. It is in the downtown core and not always the safest place. There are a number of stores, restaurants, and services here. There is a great selection. The casino is also in the same plaza. I would recommend staying away from the parking structure. At night, stay in the lit areas. Nanaimo is not as safe as it used to be. Still a great mall and one that I frequent regularly. Security tries but there is only so much they can do and the police do nothing
Iain S — Google review
This is the only mall in downtown nanaimo. Have a lot of options for food to choose. Grocery store on site. You will not be starved. The only setback is they don't have sitting area for people to eat or rest. Walking distance to bc ferry to islands. Great location, bus depot at door steps.

The walk in clinic sucks they could take more patients. You have to be in line by 6 am to get an appt. Then wait for them to open at 9am. Thiftys usually has everything I need. It is a small mall and would be nice. If it had a clothes store or two. Instead you have to bus it all the way to the North end for any decent stores.
Cynthia — Google review
This place would do better with security that is more concerned about the stuff they should be stopping, rather than scanning their codes and then never to be seen taking care of actual events they should be stopping (e.g. an individual was smoking drugs in front of my car, in the open, and a security guard said nothing and scanned his little code by CIBC and never said a word to the person).

For the price this place is awesome. It's not gourmet like flying wedge gourmet, but choices are plentiful and product sells fast enough that it's generally fresh. The butter chicken is delicious, however the pesto, whole loaded with cheese's, had no decernable pesto taste. This pizza is best consumed still warm from the oven, doesn't reheat well in my opinion. Service was excellent, better than the poor wages would suggest. Decent product, friendly staff, room for improvement

Lots of variety in their created pizzas. More than one selection for vegetarian which was really nice. Good value per slice. Four different pizza sizes are interesting. The walk-in Take Out specials also look to be a really good value. I look forward to creating my own Artisan Pizza as a takeout special for 12:50 A very busy location so all the pizzas looked really fresh. They don't sit for long

Literally had the worst customer service at this place. Tonight I went in to get a pizza for my family and I wanted to get them a variety of slices. So I asked the girl for the different slices in a medium box. The girl didn’t understand me. She told me she can’t do that and only one type of pizza is given in a medium box verbatim. So I went with just cheese. Then a few customers came in and asked for the 8 slices of pizza the way I wanted. So I tried canceling the cheese pizza to get the 8 slices because that’s what I wanted in the first place. I understand the cheese pizza was being made, what I don’t appreciate is getting mad at me because you didn’t know what I was referring to. It’s not that hard to understand “different slices in a medium box” meant the 8 slices. Just don’t start getting mad at me the, customer, for what you think I did wrong. I’m not coming back.

A really nice little pizza joint with friendly staff. It's only drawback is the limited seating; a minor issue. With a wide selection of pizza by the slice, and equal variety in beverages, there is surely something to appeal to all types. If a tasty and light slice of 'za is what you're after, look no further.

I ordered a heart shaped pizza a couple weeks ago and it was supposed to have spinach and instead it came with SO MUCH soggy cooked lettuce on it. The whole pizza was a soggy mushy mess it was so traumatizing. I got a refund through skip but i also tried to inform the restaurant through Twitter and instagram just so they were aware they are making disgusting inedible pizzas and they did not respond at all. Very terrible service. I still shudder when i think about it.

April 13.2022 noontime Pizza ( cheese in particular ) tasted awkward . When I wanted to talk to the manager he said he was busy and would not talk to me ! When I said I had to report such approach he said " Go and report to anyone you want. I am not scared " (!?) I was almost shocked by such level of rudeness and carelessness.

We ordered Pizza with chicken wings online and they accepted payment. . Couple minutes after the order they phoned saying they out of chicken wings, which it’s stupid.how can u take an order and then u call saying no wings. It’s trick to sell u the pizza. When the pizza came, believe me . A starving big will refuse to eat it. Once u pick a slice up it won’t make it to ur mouth. Fall down into 100s pieces. Wow. Note: the owners were East Indians. They do anything to get money. Bad bad...!

Pizza was cold as they told me 20 min for pick up but it was obviously ready much earlier and just sat there letting the cardboard get soggy. Also, I always get the BBQ chicken pizza and they've changed the BBQ sauce. Its flavourless and seems watered down or made to be cheaper, not sure...but its not very good and if they don't plan on changing it back I dont plan on ever getting it again, just isnt worth it now. But I use to really like their pizza.

We have been coming to this location for a long time. It used to be a hit and miss for quality of food and service. The last 6 or more visits have resulted in very friendly service and the food has improved considerably. No more soggy onion rings, they are nice and crispy and evenly coated. Burgers have evolved from sloppy to very tasty and put together well. Service is very good and friendly. Not sure what has changed over the last few months but keep it up!

Horrible experience today. I simply ordered a meal...chubby chicken burger with large fries and sprite for drinks...and additional onion rings. They couldn't get it right despite I called their attention to rectify it. Instead, they argued with me that I was not charged for it. They should not act that way towards a customers. Simple apologies and rectify it right away is the best option rather than being terrible with customers.

i had a pick up order, it was 50 dollars worth of food, my order sat on the counter for 15 minutes while they served drive through customers, Im sure it was sitting for another 15 minutes before i got there, i drove 15 minutes home and all our food was cold, the owner/manager told me to go through uber eats, and said if they dont refund me that he would. Uber eats didnt refund me, and when i contacted Wasaba the owner/manager he said he couldnt do anything for me because it would be a deficit to his company. When a service is provide and its not good, then they should be accountable. will never go there again, our burger had 2 tiny pieces of bacon on them and the sauce on the mozza burgers is disgusting.

"Consistently delicious! A&W is my go-to for a quick but satisfying meal. Their burgers are always tasty, and the onion rings are absolutely addicting. The service is quick, the staff is always smiling, and the restaurants are clean and inviting. Highly recommend it for anyone who appreciates a great burger with a side of nostalgia!"

Ordered chicken burger combo, took a bite and tasted mold on my tongue. Sure enough there was a big spot of mold on my moldy chicken burger. I always came to this location as to avoid the others with sanitary issues, however it seems this location is not as it used to be and has also suffered the plague of cheap foreign workers ruining good businesses. I will never be back. Edit: looks like there have been a lot of 5 star reviews within a week from people from the same foreign country. Seems manipulated to me
BeefBin — Google review
Staff was talking to his friend at the counter. Looked at me standing at the till, waiting to order, and wordlessly went to the back of the restaurant. I guess they don't want to conduct business.

Coffee shop
Tim Hortons is a popular Canadian chain known for its premium-blend coffee and light fare. They offer a variety of pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and even steeped tea. The service at this particular location is consistently excellent, with friendly and welcoming staff. Ahmed, who has years of experience in hospitality management, stands out as particularly kind and attentive. The overall efficiency of the staff is impressive, considering it's a fast-food establishment. Orders are completed quickly and accurately, ensuring customer satisfaction.
I keep coming back to this Tim Hortons not just for the coffee—which is exactly what you'd expect—but because of the consistently great service. The staff are friendly, professional, and always provide excellent customer service. Even when a mistake is made with my order, they always make it right without hesitation. While the food may be standard since it's pre-prepared, the welcoming atmosphere and reliable service make all the difference.

I really like this Tim's! It's clean, well organized, the staff are friendly, and even when the drive through is busy they manage to keep everything flowing for customers at the counter. I've only ever had one issue with an incomplete item on my order, and they dealt with it immediately, giving me the best customer service I could have hoped for. Thank you so much to the manager and team at the Uplands location, you have satisfied another loyal customer. I tried the Supreme Stack sandwich for the first time today and it was delicious!

Eating here turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. We already ran into problems when ordering, as all the staff were Indian and their English was quite limited. Even our Canadian hosts couldn’t really understand what the cashier was saying. After finally managing to place our order, we never got a receipt, since the cashier disappeared right after taking the payment. About ten minutes later we spoke with another staff member, who apologized and admitted they had simply forgotten our order. When the donuts finally arrived, they were so sweet that we couldn’t really taste anything else. Overall, I left disappointed with the place, despite it being so highly recommended before our trip to Canada.
Pálfi B — Google review
This location is absolutely disgrace to Tim Horton’s brand. The staff here has absolutely no English knowledge, usually, I’m fairly lenient and flexible with people’s mistakes, but not consecutively three times. For the past the three orders that I have placed at this location at its drive-through, I Ordered very simple things : less than three items, generally a coffee, a bagel or something else. And not a single time they got my order right. I’m talking about I wanted iced cap(emphasized twice, they gave me hot coffee, I wanted 10 timbits, they gave me 50, and not willing to exchange , of course they charged me for the 50, I wanted bacon loaded egg box, they gave me a wrap ) and when I try to reason with them, everything single time, they would just started speaking Punjabi or Hindi and then started ignoring me! Given there are another six or seven cars behind me. I have to move along with no other choices. Later I tried to contact Tim Hortons customer service, and they have offered a zero solution other than give me a coffee coupon , what a disgrace. If you can’t speak English, why are you even on the intercom?!?!? I’ll never shop at this location again.
Chronos — Google review
Service was terrible for some reason the server at the drive thru did not know about what we were ordering I had to take a photo of their own drive-thru menu to prove
KAEBZ — Google review
I’ve been to many Tim Hortons locations, but this one really stands out! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the friendly staff. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the store was immaculately clean. I was immediately greeted with a smile, and they made sure my order was taken promptly.
Nidhin Y — Google review
Is good drive thru time really more important than customer service? As you pull up to the window the machine is basically in your car already with the person holding it saying absolutely nothing to you or even the bare minimum smiling. After the payment goes thru they’re basically throwing your order at you and yelling about the next car. You can forget about asking for anything after they’ve given you the order cause they’ve disappeared (like a straw for example.) if you sit and wait to ask for what you want they’re extremely upset and act like you’ve commited a crime. I’ve never heard a good morning or have a good day from any of the staff here. They simply do not care about customer service and you’re basically an inconvenience to them it’s so disappointing.
Erin D — Google review
They are a disgrace to Tim Hortons brand. We live close by and have a little tradition to head over on Saturday mornings and get something for brunch but today was the last time ever!!! Never seem to get order right, always out of something and the RUDEST staff, continuously having to repeat ourselves no customer service what so ever. I would be so embarrassed if i was the owner of this location. Was suppose too get a refund and instead they charge my card again. Truly ruined our overview of what Tim Hortons meant for us. Thanks for nothing.

Greek restaurant
Mediterranean restaurant
Asteras is a popular Greek taverna located in the heart of Nanaimo, known for its traditional menu and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant offers classic Greek dishes such as moussaka, seafood, and lamb, complemented by a selection of global wines. Highly recommended by locals, Asteras is celebrated for its exceptional hospitality and top-tier service. Guests can expect simple yet delicious Cretan dishes made with fresh ingredients that speak for themselves.
First time in Nanaimo and opted to dine here with the wife after finding recommendations on Reddit. Luckily, managed to find a reservation just 2 hours prior thanks to a cancellation. Was greeted warmly by who I think is the owner. He was noticeable in that he was sure to make sure every table was doing great. Our waitress was impressive as she had memorized all 9 specials and recited them out to us (including all of their ingredients)! The food was delicious! I had the Spanikopita Dinner while my wife had the Grilled Sockeye Salmon. My Spanikopita was nice and flaky, paired nicely with the roasted carrots. I can't speak to the salmon but my wife enjoyed her meal and said it wasn't heavy or greasy (as can be a problem with some Greek dishes). Removed 1 star from the atmosphere as the heritage home locale means that tables are close together with barely enough space to walk between tables. This evening was quite hot and humid inside, but we were sitting by a window and the waitress opened the small slider for us. Also, there is no waiting area, and so a large party was unfortunately forced to wait on the stairs in the rain.

Such exceptional food! Had an appetizer sampler that included a bunch of things from the menu. Everything was unbelievably great! Amazing service from all the waiters as well!

The food and service here were absolutely fantastic. We ordered the roasted lamb, moussaka, ribs, and salmon plates, and every single dish was cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The portions were incredibly generous, and we left feeling completely satisfied. A special shout-out to our server, Irini, who was top-notch in every way. She was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make our dining experience wonderful. The location is great and walking distance to the waterfront, plenty of parking on site and street parking nearby. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for great food and incredible service!

This is the best Greek restaurant in Canada, sorry ok, fine, in western Canada. Don’t wanna over promise and offend anyone who has a sensitive soul. Everything was perfectly fantastic, the special dip, baked oysters, seafood pasta, mushrooms risotto, sangria and million puff pastry layered dessert, and even the add-on baguette — first time in my life that I was able to remember everything I ordered. Can’t wait to come back and try other dishes! Until next time Nanaimo !

After a heavy rainy day, starting dinner with the avgolemono soup was so comforting! The combination platters#1 with a fresh Greek salad made a perfect and delicious meal. The staff were super friendly and respectful, and the restaurant had such a warm, welcoming vibe — a truly lovely dining experience at Asteras!

One of My All-Time Favorite Dining Experiences..., A Must-Visit on the island of Nanaimo! As someone who travels often and dines at restaurants around the world, I rarely hand out 5-star reviews..., but Asteras absolutely deserves it. From the warm atmosphere to the attentive servers and incredible food, everything about this place was outstanding. The owner personally came to my table, something he seems to do for every guest, and asked if I knew the specials. I told him everything looked great, but being from Chicago (home of some of the best food anywhere), I was hoping for something memorable. His response: “I will prepare a great dinner for you.” And wow… he delivered. He brought out a plate of roasted lamb and seafood pasta..., both of which were phenomenal. The roasted lamb was without question the most tender, juiciest, and flavorful I’ve ever had. The seafood pasta was equally impressive, packed with incredibly fresh seafood and rich flavors that didn’t overpower the ingredients. From start to finish, this meal was unforgettable. I’ll absolutely try to make my way back to Asteras the next time I’m on Vancouver Island. This place is a gem.

We got the #1 platter, which the server told us was meant for two people. It was a lot of food! Could probably feed 3. But it was really tasty and we took home leftovers for the next day. It was quite busy, so service was a bit slow at times. But all the staff were very nice. At the end of the meal, they gave us ouzo shots on the house, which was a nice treat! The restaurant is quite cute, located in an old house. It's not huge though, so a reservation is definitely recommended.

Such a cool place in nanaimo, very close to the ferry terminal. It has a lot of activities going on, some singing, jiggling, fun pictures, ferries and sea plane watching! Love the big board for Nanaimo. Got clicked in fun poses. The kids playground is super cool with zipline kind rides

If you’re looking for the big “NANAIMO” sign, this is the spot. Inner‑city waterfront park with ample parking, lots of shaded picnic areas, a kids’ playground, small beach access, and plenty of walking/running trails. It’s about a 10‑minute drive from the Departure Bay ferry terminal, so it’s an easy stop before or after your sailing. I love coming here for a quick loop, a photo at the sign, and a breather by the water.

Beautiful waterfront park that’s perfect for a walk or just relaxing by the water. There are nice paths, open spaces, and great views all around. It’s family friendly with areas for kids to play and plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the scenery. A really nice place to unwind if you’re in Nanaimo

The beach views are amazing, and you’ll see sea planes, ferries, motorboats, and yachts passing by. The sea walkway is beautiful and it’s right in the heart of downtown. A must-visit when on Vancouver Island!”

Great place to relax and hang out in downtown Nanaimo. The park is large with great views and atmosphere. It can get noisy at times due propeller aircraft noise, as the Nanaimo habour serves as an airport for seaplanes. There are a lot of unique statues and a large playground.

You'll love this cute, little, harbourside spot! It features the official Saysutshun ferry landing and the popular NANAIMO sign, offering a great photo op for memories. I enjoyed the unique food trucks right by the water, and my kids always have a blast at the play area!!

Lovely little park which is the site of the Saysutshun ferry! Has the NANAIMO sign as well for a cute lil photo opportunity. The food carts have interesting options for a quick bite on the water. The play area is also really fun for kids and the rides were very adorably themed.

Absolute trash. Will only serve you one drink (a double to be transparent) and hour… yes… go to the Casino to have drinks and gamble but nope… only 2 shots or 1 double an hour. Cherry on top.. I was in the dinner AND ordered a dinner (ordered another dinner when food arrived and was told I need to wait an hour). Oh, and I was dead sober going in.

Nice spot for mid-Island entertainment. Plenty of slot options and a few digital table games you can switch between. The live table games seem to only open at certain times—I usually go during the day or midweek, and they’re always closed. Staff are friendly and pleasant, and The Well restaurant serves decent food at a good price. There are some good eat-and-play deals too, so it’s worth grabbing a meal first to score some vouchers (I made the mistake of playing first, ha!).

Harbour Air Seaplanes offers scenic seaplane tours providing breathtaking views of Nanaimo and its surrounding islands, including mountains, forests, and coastline. At the Richmond south terminal, travelers can wait and dine at a pub while watching seaplanes take off.
Flew from Nanaimo to Vancouver international Airport. Very nice and quick way to get to the mainland. Very helpful and friendly staff on both ends of the 20 minute trip. Scenic views. Highly recommended.
Albert B — Google review
We were excited about our first float plane experience but service was disappointing. Staff got confused about which float plane was boarding and held us back. Then when they let us through, we couldn't sit together and everyone was taking up over half a seat. Even though we paid over $400 for our tickets, half our butts were hanging off the seat. Now on our way back, we originally booked a flight around 10:30 AM and they moved it to 7:50 AM. Views were pretty but after this trip, no need to do it again. The ferry is a fraction of the cost and we just didn't get the convenience or service we wanted
Fiorella C — Google review
Had a great flight from Nanaimo to Vancouver airport. Pilot and staff were accommodating and friendly. Seats were a bit small but I was still quite comfortable (and the flight is only 20 minutes). Make sure to account for the weight of your luggage if you’re not travelling light. Otherwise the luggage fee could get you.
Ross T — Google review
So fast easy and convenient! Less than 20 minutes to get off the rock, back and forth to the lower mainland from Vancouver Island. I saw whales! Whenever I get the chance this is the way to travel, and several flights daily to choose from. The best option without any hassles or lineups! I loved it!
Kirsten S — Google review
We cancelled our return flight home to Nanaimo with Sea Air yesterday, thinking we wouldn’t make our connection in time. To be safe, we rebooked with Harbour Air and paid an extra $60 per person. When we checked in, the staff were polite, but we were told we’d have to pay an additional $150 because our bags were over their weight limit. We explained our situation, but were basically told to “read the small print” and they wouldn’t budge. With Sea Air we wouldn’t have faced that surcharge. Harbour Air also charges $3.00 per pound over — double what Sea Air does. We weren’t expecting special treatment since we usually fly Sea Air, but we did expect fairer policies and a little flexibility. Instead, it left a bad taste in our mouths. The service was fine, but the pricing and attitude weren’t. We won’t be booking Harbour Air again unless it’s an emergency.
JIm J — Google review
I’ve always taken the ferry to the island, but I recently tried Harbour Air and was blown away(no pun intended) by the experience. Everything from check-in to landing was smooth, friendly, and efficient. The views were incredible, and what used to take half a day was suddenly an easy, quick, enjoyable trip. Harbour Air will now be my first choice for island travel.

The Dinghy Dock Pub is a one-of-a-kind floating establishment located in Nanaimo Harbour, just off Protection Island. Visitors can enjoy cocktails, delicious food, and live music while taking in scenic views of the harbor. Families are welcome to dine here as well.
Caught the ferry to visit this pub. What a really cool place. Ashley was an outstanding server. Checking in on us to let us know when drinks were on our way, food and how everything was tasting. We felt very well looked after.

Such a cool experience to take in when visiting Nanaimo. You start by taking a short boat, ride over to protection Island and then find your spot at the pub either inside or on the deck. We had fish and chips and I enjoyed a fresh wild salmon burger which was absolutely amazing. They serve local beers which is always appreciated. The music was 10 out of 10 and the environment was exactly what you'd expect of an ocean side pub.

Part of our vacation plans was coming here for lunch. A relaxing ride out on their ferry. Had the halibut and chips (100% yum!!). Our server Ava was amazing. When I come back out, The Dinghy Dock Pub is on my list.
Scott N — Google review
I work Fridays and usually grab dinner here afterward. The staff actually talk to me. They care. That's not something you find everywhere, and when you're dealing with depression and anxiety, it makes a real difference. They know me, they're good to me, and I actually feel comfortable here. This is why islanders love this place. It's about the people working here who give a damn. There's something about sitting on a floating pub, watching the water, having real conversations with staff who remember you. It's one of the few places I can just... be. Now, to be fair – the food isn't going to blow you away. This isn't the Keg or Cactus Club, and yeah, it's on the pricey side. But that's honestly not why I keep coming back. I come back because the Dinghy Dock has become part of my routine in a way that genuinely helps. Sometimes that's worth way more than a better burger somewhere else. If you're just looking for good food at a fair price, this probably isn't your spot. But if you understand what it means to have a place where people actually care, you'll get why this pub matters to the people who live here.

This place is a very unique place to go!! It’s a must however it’s trek with Ferries and everything. Well worth it tho. It’s a fantastic old boat, it’s super neat. The staff were awesome and friendly. I didn’t know about the food, and to my surprise it was delightful. Then a small hike around Protection Island! An excellent way to spend the day. Plus they also have a very reasonable Happy Hour.

Had such a great time at the dinghy dock, not only is it a great location but the staff are wonderful! Everyone is so kind and welcoming. The service was great and everyone loved everything we ordered to eat. Would recommend to anyone for a night out with friends!

Pub
Lighthouse Bistro & Pub is a charming bilevel venue in downtown Nanaimo, offering a Canadian bistro and separate pub with patio tables overlooking the water. The restaurant provides an unforgettable dining experience with a great menu featuring traditional and innovative dishes made from locally-sourced ingredients. The atmosphere is idyllic, especially on the stunning patio overlooking the inlet. Guests can enjoy an excellent cocktail menu and outstanding wine list while savoring delicious appetizers and entrees.
Not sure why there are so many bad reviews, this place was great. There was a bit of a line up at first, but they managed to get us all a table. The waitress was super friendly and nice. Service was top great, always had water, always asked how the food was, etc. We had the vegan bowl with chicken and the salmon burger, they were excellent. The fries were so crisp and well cooked. We didn't have the fish n chips but we saw it and it looked delicious. The beer was great too, well poured. The view is amazing, you're on the water, near all the boats. I would definitely come here again!

View was stunning. Food was mediocre. Service was great. We were there for a big private event and they really struggled to keep up, meals came out very staggered. Caesar salad was good. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and apologetic. They were overwhelmed but did well considering. I'd maybe go again in a small group

I don’t normally leave reviews, but our experience at Lighthouse Bistro was frustrating enough that I felt compelled to say something — especially given the premium prices and the steady flow of guests they seem to receive. We had cocktails and appetizers to start — a Shaft for $15.50 and a small $23 calamari that was under-seasoned and bland. No one checked in after we finished, and it took nearly 10 minutes just to have our plates cleared. Water refills were never offered throughout the meal. The real issue was the $30 beef dip, which came with an inedible amount of gristle and fat. I couldn’t eat it. Our server agreed it was not something she would eat either — yet the only solution offered was a 10% discount on the sandwich. No manager came to speak to us, even after we waited 15 minutes to address the issue. As someone with over 20 years in the restaurant industry, I understand the difference between occasional mistakes and poor hospitality. Unfortunately, this was the latter. To top it off, we noticed thick spider webs on the patio railings and corners where we were seated. It just felt neglected — a lack of attention to both food and environment. With a $78 bill and a truly disappointing experience, we won’t be returning — and I wouldn’t recommend it to others either.

It's a good place to grab a bite to eat before or after your harbour flight. Conveniently located and it's got a good view of the harbor. You can watch planes fly in and out while you enjoy your meal. The food itself was good but found it pretty pricey for what you get. The service (our host Naomi) was absolutely amazing. She definitely made the entire experience more enjoyable. Thanks again for the great service!

Great place to relax. Amazing location feels a bit like you're out on a yacht in the harbor. Dropped in for Thursday Night Jazz. Superb musicians played old & new tunes. Had some tasty chowder. Compliments to the staff for great service too. Went solo but met some fun folks & ended up sitting with them. All jazz lovers.!! All in all a great evening.

Absolutely delightful place for a late lunch! Kyla our server was both attentive and an absolute riot - a perfect combination! We chose seafood which was all very fresh, from the oysters and the halibut to the tempura shrimp. We shared a Nanaimo bar for dessert to try out the local delicacy. Surprisingly tasty. The upper patio has amazing view of the harbor and the landing seaplanes.
Piers V — Google review
The service was excellent, and the outdoor seating was really nice. However, the food was a bit disappointing compared to the service and atmosphere. The sangria and limoncello were just mediocre. While the halibut with fruit salsa exceeded my expectations, the salmon was underwhelming—it didn’t taste fresh and lacked flavor. The turmeric-infused rice also felt a bit dry. Looking around at other tables, the Cobb salad or fish and chips might have been a better choice.
S L — Google review
The muscles and claws and seafood chowder soooo good! The atmosphere is awsome! Sitting on the upper deck eating good food, with good drinks watching the sun go down can't be beat!! Being from Alberta...this is a great find!

Mexican restaurant
BarBURRITO is a Mexican restaurant that offers a solid and flavorful burrito experience. The assembly process is similar to Subway, allowing customers to choose their desired ingredients after selecting the primary protein option. It is quick, convenient, satisfying, and reasonably priced. While there isn't anything particularly exceptional about the venue or service, it meets the expectations of fast-food establishments by being efficient. Additionally, they serve delicious bowls that are visually appealing and packed with delightful flavors.
Great quick food downtown! Always clean and friendly. We love stopping in to grab food when waiting for the ferry. Great vegetarian options and great kids menu options. Very good value. Would highly recommend!!

I just ordered delivery from this restaurant and usually they are good. This time I ordered a burrito and paid extra for chips and queso and a drink yet when I got the order at my door neither of those things were there. Then when I take out my burrito from the bag I pull out this hand written note asking presumably for a "good" google review. Not fair to ask me for a good review when you did not give me the things I paid for.

I just had a simple snack, 2 orders of chips and salsa and a Pacifico beer. Nice, clean place. Pleasant staff. I’d recommend eating here.

This place does food well ! Love their bowls, it’s pretty, loaded and delectable! I got their pulled pork ! Made it into a combo of spicy and sweet ( perfect combo ) value for money ! A picture of my friends bowls too :) thanks bar burrito !!:)

The burrito was very wet. The ground beef was like a soup. I had this in Vancouver and it was great. I don't think it's supposed to be that wet, can someone else check this out? I'll try it again and update if it's better Friendly staff and atmosphere though👍

I ordered my burrito bowl through uber eats yesterday and I was really disappointed with it. The meat was super dry and the lettuce was soggy. I’ve had it before and it’s usually delicious. Seemed like I was getting the end of night meat and lettuce.
Lindsay R — Google review
The food was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly portioned! The staff were friendly and quick, making the whole experience enjoyable. The restaurant was clean and had a great casual vibe. Highly recommend!
RANIA F — Google review
The store looks attractive from outside but dining area did not give me the same feeling. We ordered 2 "Special Burrito" assuming it would be the best choice as it was their special food. Unfortunately, it was garbage. I throw it away after 2 bites. It doesn't taste good at all. The way the sandwich was wrapped was terrible. $40 for 2 sandwiches that went to the trash bin directly didn't worth. I ended up buying something else to eat.

Mexican restaurant
Penny's Palapa Restaurant is a seasonal floating eatery in Nanaimo that offers a taste of Mexico with its thoughtful Mexican cuisine and margaritas. The open-air seating provides stunning ocean views, making diners feel like they're truly in Mexico. The restaurant is known for its amazing fish tacos and also offers options for vegan and vegetarian diets. Situated on the water in the Boat Basin, it features a floating patio with heaters available.
Located in Nanaimo Harbor, this seasonal restaurant enjoys a fantastic waterfront setting. When I visited in April, the weather was beautiful but still a little chilly, so I appreciated that they thoughtfully provided blankets. I tried the Hibiscus Margarita (non-alcoholic) for the first time — it was a little on the bitter side for my taste, so next time I’ll go back with the Lime Margarita. We ordered the Halibut Tacos and the layered dip, and as always, the food was fresh and delicious. A wonderful spot for a relaxed meal by the water!!

I Had an amazing experience here today! The food was delicious, the service was very good and the place itself was very comfortable. I don’t eat beans, and the staff lady who help me was kind to substitute them with a salad without any problem, I really appreciated that personal touch. Highly recommended! If you’re looking for great Mexican food, this is definitely the place to go.

Got in this past Saturday night without much of a wait. The service was good but my plate was dirty so I asked for a new one (it was the one on the top of the stack so I’m wondering how the server missed it - but perhaps I’m too picky). The nachos were very good and hearty, lots of cheese, huge dollop of guacamole and so much refried beans. We asked for jalapeño on the side and they were fresh, not picked. The food was very good, I requested yogurt instead of mayo but I don’t think they switched it out for me because it was still spicy. I ordered the ice tea extra sweet but it came back normal, I requested some simple syrup to sweeten to my taste so it worked out. The Limeade was very good. My little ones love corn but it was too spicy for them (I should’ve asked beforehand if it was spicy so that’s on me). We ordered a side of sour cream and the rice was not spicy.

Such a great little palapa bar on the water! The mexican food and drinks were super, and our server was 5 star! Definitely worth a visit if you have a summer evening in Nanaimo!

What an amazing experience, the ambiance of this restaurant is so good, a floating restaurant, with just an amazing staff including our waitress Mary. We ordered a shared Nachos, this was one of the best Nachos out there, complete with fresh guacamole. We also ordered spawn tacos, Holy Guacamole tacos and carne asada tacos. All tacos come with 3, but they are loaded with extras, very filling. Definitely recommend this restaurant when visiting Nanaimo.

Great little spot, upgraded the dog friendly area. People were so friendly quick service. Got a spot off the water! Food may look pricy but in the area it's really reasonable and for the quality you get is superb.

Stopped in for a late dinner. Jordan, my server was friendly and fun to chat with. I had the Hibiscus lime margarita.... highly recommend btw, and the chipotle chicken burrito bowl. It was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view of the harbour

Lovely spot in Nanaimo, right on the water! Has character to it, and the food is solid! While it didn’t necessarily feel like I was in Mexico, it did hit enough of the right notes to make me feel that I might be in a place slightly nicer than Nanaimo!

Restaurant
Tucked away in Nanaimo, The Nest Bistro is a charming eatery that offers a delightful blend of French and Italian cuisine. With a romantic outdoor patio and elegant interior, it's the perfect place to savor dishes crafted from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. From classic salads to heartier fare, the menu showcases an array of delectable options. Guests can also enjoy friendly service and an extensive selection of cocktails and wines.
I have not seen a restaurant that compares to the Nest Bistro - it's beautiful, quiet enough, and the window makes you feel like you're on the 5th floor. They have a very classy and traditional service, partnered with an excellent menu. What I noticed was that they were very conscious of your experience, instead of just throwing stuff at you, hoping it sticks. They took the time to present options, and compliment your food with the right choices by helping you along. Ultimately, I was surprised at the discovery of this place, and would highlight it for next time I'm back in Nanaimo.

We went there for my birthday and anniversary. Order the chicken pasta. Hardly any chicken. My wife ordered het steak medium well. It came almost raw. Told the server and he said they go by temp. Not a good night for $160.00 . We have been going to the next since they were in a smaller locations. Very disappointed

This is one of my favorite spots in Naniamo. The restaurant is tucked away from the busy part of downtown. They have a beautiful patio that is draped with Grape Vines that must be at least 25 years old. The food is creative and delicious. Large portion sizes give customers excellent bang for their buck. There is always something new to try on their cocktail and wine list, and the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I would eat here every day if I could!

Amazing food! Benefitted from “happy hour” specials and all 5 of us loved our meals. Desserts were divine! Prices were lower than expected which was nice.

I had a prawn pasta dish and my wife had a sirloin steak special. Both were delicious and cooked to perfection. The waiter was very good. He was knowledgeable and helpful - attentive but also left us alone enough to enjoy our meal. Will definitely be back. Nice that they have their own parking right next door.
Blair T — Google review
I asked the server to bring me something to surprise me and she came back with the Potato Crusted Salmon. More precisely, it was a wild BC Sockeye, tarragon cream, vegetables, gnocchi. That dinner was incredible. I enjoyed each bite. I highly recommend. Prices represent a fancy place. I also had a Bloody Ceasar, and it was also very very good. If you're thinking about going, just go, and enjoy!

Excellent restaurant! Beautifully curated menu by the chef. Top notch service. This will be our new date spot. I would recommend making a reservation.

One of the best bistro in town. Went along with my girlfriends, and came back home with satisfied taste buds. Loved the atmosphere, cozy and perfectly dimmed lights. The service was amazing, Miche knew what was the best and served us delicious food. We had garlic prawns, crispy squid (must try), sambuc prawn spaghetti, and gnocchi in rosè. Definitely gonna visit again.
