The 30 best bars and drinks in Nanaimo

I honestly don't write reviews often, but I needed to write something for my experience here. I was traveling from out of town and decided to try The Modern Cafe, but they were experimenting with a new spring menu or something and got the Smoked Brisket eggs benny (not my first choice - but they seem to run out of food options throughout the day here by other reviews). Unfortunately the food wasn't brisket that good at all. The brisket was rather flavorless, and the "fresh croissant" that made the bed of the benny was extremely hard, I couldn't even pull it apart with a fork to be honest. I think this was by design, but man the hard croissant just wasn't it. The brisket was nice and soft though! For a single benny and a handful of potatoes, paying $24 wasn't the best feeling either for the amount of food I got. I basically paid $24 for an medium poached egg and a bowl of potatoes (but those were yummy at least). The staff asked me how the food was, but avoided me after I said the food wasn't that great. Understandable I guess. One of them mentioned how they weren't a fan of the croissant either, but I'm not sure what that was supposed to do 😅 Unfortunately this place just missed the mark for me. Since I'm from out of town and won't likely be back in the near future, perhaps I'd recommend other out of towners to try elsewhere too?

Eclectic and refreshing menu. We liked the “Seoul bites” appetizer; pork belly perfectly matched with rice. Also the mussels with a great, flavorful sauce. Tip: order the lobster grilled cheese with a side salad instead of fries.

Modern Cafe has great Atmosphere but the menu in my opinion is too large. I’ve been here 2 times now and the food has not impressed me. My first meal was a roasted chicken sandwich which had good flavours but the bread was far from toasted. The benny I had today looked good but was flavourless. A smaller menu that can be perfected is better in any restaurant.

Had a fantastic experience at The Modern Café in Nanaimo! The food was great — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was incredible, friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. The atmosphere is cozy yet modern, perfect for a relaxed meal or a casual catch up. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

We got the poke bowl, charcuterie nachos, gnocchi carbonado, and the salad The pokeball was delicious and had these delicious crunchy rice noodles. The charcuterie nachos were amazing and had amazing flavors! The gnocchi carbonado was good. The salad was amazing. It had an absolute stellar blend of sauces and food. I loved it here -5 Stars

Nice open space with comfortable tables and bright lighting. The food was a bit of a mixed bag. The ginger carrot soup was excellent, well seasoned and had a good texture. The pork belly waffles were underwhelming - the "Chipotle BBQ" sauce tasted a bit like the spicy sauce in a spicy salmon roll and the hollandaise had separated and tasted oily. Together, not a good combo. The cheeseburger was average, no complaints. Service was good, but the machine prompted tips starting at 18%? The food needed to be a bit better for that.

Great atmosphere and potential. My order took a very long time and the server admitted there was a mixup. It happens. I ordered the beef brisket. Honestly, the toughest hard to eat I have ever had - and I like brisket. This is not slow cooked or even tenderized in any way. Kale Caesar substitute for fries was very good but very very disappointed in the food.

I am always on the hunt for the best Nanaimo bar when I'm in Nanaimo, BC. Found this spot as recommended by a Nanaimo travel guide. Ordered a cupcake, a cookie, Nanaimo bar and a muffin. All were delectable. I wouldn't say this is the best Nanaimo Bar in Nanaimo but its a worthy addition to the Nanaimo bar tour of Nanaimo. As the namesake, the cupcake was definitely the star, it was moist and rich and flavourful. The cookie was ok, the muffin also ok. Overall, a noteworthy stop in your search of Nanaimo's pride!

This is long overdue! Last October I phoned several places searching for a special birthday dessert that was gluten-free and lactose-free. I was about to give up then thankfully, I called Medina at Wee Cupcakery. She not only guaranteed that her cupcakes would be gluten-free and lactose-free, but that they would be ready for the party the next day. The cupcakes were incredible! They were super moist and covered with a thick layer of dark chocolate icing, and an absolute hit at the party! I live north of Nanaimo, but whenever I can I treat myself to one of Medina's delicious cupcakes. I highly recommend that others do the same.

Happily stumbled upon The Wee Cupcakery!! Went inside to be absolutely delighted with the delicious selection of cupcakes. Ended up getting a 6 pack because they all looked so yummy! Salted caramel, Mocha, Double Chocolate, Vanilla Bean, Coconut Cheese and Cookies and Cream. Coconut Cheesecake- phenomenal and must recommend!! 🧁🥥 Will be returning!

Everything about this place is so amazing. The cupcakes are the best i have ever seen. They taste as good as they look. So many great choices of flavour and the perfect amount of sweetness. And can’t forget to mention the extra efforts in packaging. Loved it and will surely recommend it.

I used A Wee Cupcakery for my wedding to provide vegan and gluten-free cupcakes. They made six of each of four flavors, and the chocolate coconut was absolutely to die for! Even guests without dietary restrictions couldn’t resist. Attached is a photo of a happy bride who sampled each flavour. 😄 Delicious treats and fantastic service—I highly recommend them!

Vegan cupcakes, yes!! All the vegan ones are also gluten-free, which is even better when you've got celiacs in the family. I love every flavour. Just be sure to get there early because they sell out pretty fast! The woman who runs this place is always so friendly too.

I was walking by the shop last week, and I decided to see if they had any gluten free cupcakes. Lo and behold, GF and dairy free (vegan)! And oh my gosh, they were delicious! The flavour of the chocolate cake was rich and with a perfect crumb. The frosting was generous and flavourful, and topped with a real and really delicious raspberry. The toasted coconut frosting was just perfect! I almost ate all 4 cupcakes all by myself… 🤫 Thank you for making vegan and gluten free cupcakes 🧁 The shop is tiny so not a place where you can sit indoors, but it is pretty, so you can admire the décor while you’re ordering your cupcakes to go.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. I ordered the cod fish and chips, and when it was brought out, they weren't satisfied with the size of one of the fish they served me so they brought out a second plate for free. So generous and cute, the first portion was actually more than enough for me. It feels like an old school diner inside with a pirate ship theme. Charming ambiance. Also right in front of a bus stop to the Departure Bay ferry terminal.

Had a great dinner here. Fabulous and fun venue with lots of tasty seafood. Also enjoyed the deep-fried Nanaimo bar - was delicious!! Had the clams, squid and coleslaw -which was also yummy!! Enjoyed our beers and chatting with the staff who gave us lots of travel tips. Highly recommend a visit!!

We went there a couple days ago. The stuff is very friendly and even told us some stories about the city and the things you can find on the beaches. The food was very good! One of the best fish n chips I ever had. By the way the portions are very big.

Great service. We were only here for dessert. The deep-fried Nanaimo bar was good and could be even better with more icecream& less whipped cream. Lots of other deep fried options available that looked equally delicious. Cool merchandise with funny pirate theme phrases.

The food menu is really good. Tonnes of choice with some interesting things. Not just deep fried Mars bars or fish n chips. Although they do all-you-can-eat fish n chips.... So I'll be back another time for sure. As always though, dessert here is a must. And as predictable as I am, I go with the old school deep fried Mars bar. I've been visiting them since they were near Acme Foods. They're licenced too, so you can stop by for a few drinks after work. Staff are always super friendly. A real gem.

Love the atmosphere and aesthetic feel of this place! Poutine is massive! Lots of extras you wont find anywhere else like deep fried chocolate bars.

For such a small, unassuming space, the Nanaimo Museum really packs a punch! Each exhibit was presented with detail and care, and had tons of opportunities for hands on participation. The current exhibit on Japanese internment camps in B.C. was very touching and so well designed. The staff are very welcoming and helpful as well.

PEAK museum. I've been to so many museums about the town their in, and it's never particularly notable. But Nanaimo Museum is curated so deliberately, and has a vast array of subjects. It looks very modern and you can tell that the staff really cares. I was surprised at how much they accomplish and how refined it looks. If you need something to do for very cheap definitely go here!!!

Very informative and helpful people. Great for kids. While it's a small place lots of history packed in. No charge to get in only donation.

Absolutely amazing. I loved each exhibit. My 10-year-old daughter was blown away by how far we've come as a people. We could see the indigenous peoples' canoes; the early settlers' fun competitions (the bathtub boats), school rooms, stores, and even wedding gowns. We got to see a mine that gave us chills, and so much more. We will definitely be back!

I was actually at the Serious Coffee. The food was good but I finished my sandwich before I got my soup. They prioritized new coffee orders before getting my soup ready. I really took my time with the sandwich. It was an extraordinarily long time for the soup. Ridiculous actually

Interesting museum, educational and great to know more about Nanaimo. We enjoyed looking at the paintings of different artists during that particular weekend, with one of them being quite talented. Too bad about the crime and some people suffering the effects of drugs around downtown.

On the Nanaimo Bar trail! The peanut butter one was so good that it could have ate the whole thing myself, but I shared. They serve Umbria coffee, which is yummy. They have some lunch items and were out of both strawberry and blackberry lavender Nanaimo bars. Sufficient tables for 2-4 people. Quiet music in background so it's great for conversation. Cute party of old city area with a cluster of shops to wander around.

One of many cafes we tried in Nanaimo while going on Nanaimo adventure. They were decent. Not the best ones we tried but good enough to recommend to try! We tried maple and strawberry Nanaimo bars

Out of the three places I’ve tried in Nanaimo this might be my favorite Nanaimo bar. It’s thinner, which means each bite had more balanced ratio of chocolate, cream, and crust. The crust has a nice mix of nuts and is perfectly crunchy (I believe it’s gluten free). The cream layer is not too sweet and overpowering either. Overall a delightful treat with iced coffee! My companion had a bagel sandwich which was delicious as well. Loved this cute little cafe.

Cute little cafe in the heart of Nanaimo. We came here from because of the endorsement from the Food Network. There were some things we liked and others we didn't. If you're in Nanaimo you should probably get yourself a Nanaimo Bar. That said I thought their drinks were better than the food which to me was too bad. Nothing bad to say about this place, it just didn't particularly stand out the way I hoped it would.

This cafe is famous for their Nanaimo bars, displaying their various awards received for the various Nanaimo bars on offer. They have regular Nanaimo bars as well as peanut butter and salted caramel ones. I tried the peanut butter and salted caramel ones and they were good. The peanut butter one had a mild flavour of peanut butter, with the chocolate flavour being more prominent; and the salted caramel being similarly mild with the salted caramel flavour except the bites with the prominent salt on top. Overall, if you're into Nanaimo bars then they've got you covered. I also tried their coffee, specifically the cappuccino. Unfortunately this was nothing to write home about, not having great body and being pretty average. In the middle of a weekday, this place had plenty of seats available both inside and out.

It's a hidden gem for sure. If you're looking for the good drinks, this is it! They made good cocktail, authentic taste, not too sweet, not too strong. And their local brew is fantastic. Also lots of choices for hard bar drinker. A surprise is they cook lamb-shank, one of the menu that hard to find in restaurants. The waitress was friendly and fast. Highly recommend!

This was a nice place to have a dinner. The craft brews were reasonably priced, and the lamb shack I had was seasoned very nicely.

The fish tacos were fantastic. Love their selection of beers as well. I really liked the Stoutnik. I would definitely come back here. The service was really good too. My server was efficient, not overbearing and very professional.

Exceptional food (the Nanaimo Bar Cheesecake is a must), great selection of drinks (I recommend the Berried Alive lager), and the setting is excellent. Great kids options as well (the Jello dessert comes with gummy worms hidden inside!)

Great ambiance, we had a lot of fun there. We went to the pub because we wanted to try the Longwood beers but we also wanted to eat and that was such a great time. We were able to do a bunch of flights and we ended up trying all the beers they are making at the moment. And the food was really good. Lots of options, including vegetarian ones. Our server was great, she was cracking jokes with us and you could tell the locals really like her. You should definitely try it and go downstairs in the pub. That's where the fun is!!!

My visit to the Longwood Brew Pub & Restaurant felt like a threesome. Let me explain. I went there with my in-laws and my partner. Wait, let me explain. I love my girlfriend. She's awesome. But Longwood is awesome too. I loved the place instantaneously. I'm only on the island for another week and a half. My main concern is making it back before we leave. To whomever it may concern: the imperial stout is awesome. So is the black and blue chicken whatever. I love this place.

I found the Nanaimo bar too sweet and creamy here so didn't feel too good afterwards but the setting and boxing was nice. Other items must be better here

Have heard for months about how great this place is, so my expectations were probably too high going in, but the experience here was not good. Service was friendly but painfully slow and seriously lacking - had to ask for cutlery after the food came out, then had to go find the server to ask about the coffee we'd ordered half an hour earlier. Server had asked if I wanted ham with the dish I ordered (which was included), I said yes, dish then came without ham. Didn't see the server again to bring the issue up, girl on the till just brushed it off. Food was decent, but not good enough to overcome the service issues. Maybe it was just a bad day or a new server, but I probably won't be back anytime soon.

Only giving 1 star because giving zero stars is not an option! Terrible cook who turned us away when one of us had already paid for the food after having waited in the patio for 15 minutes with little to no service or guidance. We asked them if splitting our group into two (we were 6 in total) would help but the cook just said they are not accepting anyone if the table has more than 4. We were there at 1 PM and the restaurant doesn't close until 3 PM. Terrible place. Would not recommend if you're visiting Nanaimo.

Great food and lattes. Had the smoked salmon on scrambled eggs and it was delicious. The inside is a bit dated but thats part of its charm. Would recommend for a relaxing breakfast while planning your daily adventure in Nanaimo.

Australian travelling all over Canada for 2 months, this bakery cafe in Nanaimo was by far the best. Excellent espresso coffees & fresh baked pastries; friendly kind service without pressure to order more/pay a bigger tip/get you in/out pronto; welcoming unpretentious atmosphere; quiet light jazz music; lots of tables where you could quietly read or chat with a friend; broad selection of reasonably priced meals; plants; real baguettes. If you speak French, the name says it all. Thank you :-)

Had lunch today, excellent staff, friendly courteous, attentive. The food is exceptional, flavors amazing everything made fresh in there cafe/bakery. Large portions you do not leave hungry. Will definitely return

A go-to coffee shop in downtown’s Nanaimo. I think this is the best coffee I have ever had since I moved to Nanaimo. They have a variety choices of coffee and flavour to evaluate your coffee. Whipping cream is a must try. So yummy 😋 They also have a lot of teas, and no caffeine choices, like milkshake or smoothies, etc. The location is a plus point. You can enjoy your drink with the view of Waterfront harbour. Lastly, I’ll try the sandwich next time

Javawocky Coffee House is absolutely amazing! The coffee is rich and flavorful, and every cup tastes perfect. The place has a warm and welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay longer. Definitely one of the best coffee spots I’ve been to—highly recommended!

Stopped by this Cafe at Nanaimo Waterfront for coffee and indulged in a Caramel coffee muffin 😋 The medium roast coffee was excellent as well as the service . Was fairly busy and didn't have many sandwiches left . They have an outside seating area which is really good for looking out onto the water and relaxing 😁

Wow, my friend and I stopped in and the girls working there were quite rude. Especially the dark haired girl, I ordered an oat latte and when I picked it up was told it was a flat white. I didn’t even know what that was. When I said that’s not what I ordered, no explanation. I went back to the front to ask what it was, the other girl explained that because I ordered a small latte that their machine won’t do a small so they changed it to a flat white and that it was the same as a latte but with less foam. I was fine with that but I would’ve preferred to be told that without attitude in the beginning. Too bad, it’s such a cute place and we love to support local.

We love coming here and sitting outside. The food and pastries look very good but we won’t eat here because the very friendly girl here at the till has long hair down and in front. I watched her bending over to re-stock the pastries and her hair hangs down close to the food. Turns me right off eating here. The Americano is delicious, the barista had her hair in a pony so that was great.

From start to finish was a joy! All the staff are so friendly! Gracie was my stylist and gave me a great haircut & colour!! I wanted something new, funky that blended took out all the weight and crazy length and a colour that blended my greys BUT was low maintenance! Gracie definitely achieved my request! I highly recommend if you have thick+/curly hair....or just hair!! My first visit but definitely not my last! Thank you Kiyo!

Years ago when I moved to Nanaimo I saw Alisha on a whim and she has been one of the best choices during my time in Nanaimo! Almost eight years later and Alisha is still my go to. She has been with me through blondes back to my natural black. She is truly a master at her craft and I fully trust her with my hair!

I’ve been to Kiyo twice, once in the beginning of the year to see Crystal, who was amazing, and yesterday to see Sophia. Highly recommend the both of them! My haircut and colour from Sophia was exactly what I wanted. 10000/10 experience and would definitely go back to see her :)

I had a massage from Tabatha recently when I was having a particularly difficult day. Her nurturing and caring nature were exactly what I needed, and the massage was one of the best I’ve ever had. Worth every penny ♥️

I was excited when the dish was served, but they plated three different dishes all on one plate. The assorted sashimi had a poor texture and there weren’t many types either.

Disappointing experience — the place felt lifeless We were in Nanaimo for the weekend and looking for a spot to have lunch. After some searching, we decided to try this place around 4 PM — but unfortunately, it was a poor choice. The atmosphere felt completely lifeless and uninviting. The food quality was very low — bland, poorly made, and just not enjoyable at all. On top of that, the service was rushed and uncomfortable. The waitress didn’t give us a moment to look over the menu, returning twice within less than 10 minutes to ask for our order — even though the place was nearly empty. While we were still eating, she came again to ask if we were finished, even though it was clearly obvious we weren’t. Believe me — if someone is truly done with their food, they’ll get up and leave. There’s no need to make them feel like they’re being pushed out.

The atmosphere and service was nice. The food was okay but nothing to blow you away. I love to get a ceaser at every place I try. But this ceaser didn’t quite hit that spot for me.

I visited twice, a month apart. The first time was ok, the second time was not good. I had Miyagi's Magic Prawns and one piece of sushi on my first visit for lunch. It was fine but not something I would order again or recommend. On my second visit, I had the seafood jambalaya and that was quite bad. It was rice and seafood in a marinara-style sauce- there wasn't anything creole about it. I picked the seafood out and left the rest. The server did not inquire about my barely eaten dish. This isn't a place I would recommend for their food.

Fantastic and innovative sushi. Lovely servers who will help make your experience smooth and enjoyable. We ordered a variety of sushi which all come served on a large platter for sharing. It's a great way to taste a number of different menu items. The sushi was fresh and the sauces really make the dish stand out from other sushi restaurants. Great variety for vegetarians, who are often left with very bland options at a regular sushi restaurant. Would recommend!

Went with a few friends and we all really enjoyed the experience on a Friday night. The building has a cool historic vibe and the atmosphere was warm and lively. We ordered a mix of dishes like some sushi rolls, a couple of mains from the grill, and a dessert to share. Everything was well-presented and tasty, and the sushi especially stood out. Service was friendly and helpful without being overbearing, and we never felt rushed. My friends and I agreed we’d definitely come back. Great spot for a relaxed night out with friends. 👍<3 !!

AMAZING food! I consider myself as having had lots of sushi before, but the Pterodactyl roll and the Stuffed Avocados were SO GOOD! great prices, great location, and very tasty. compliments to the staff

Nice place. Jazz and rock music is little bit loud but I like it. Friendly staff. Restroom was clean. We ordered a set for four people and it was great. The most surprising delicious was fries. There was so much food that we had to take some with us. Pork ribs were very nice. The only concern was the meat was warmed up and chicken meat wasn’t very fresh.

I did a happy dance eating here because it was so delicious! Pulled pork Mac and cheese was incredible, along with the crispy fries and gravy!

Food was delicious here! Definitely one of the better BBQ’s I’ve had in the west coast. We did their regular feast and I thought the sausages, pulled pork and brisket and chicken were absolutely delicious. The rack of ribs unfortunately for us was dry and was my least fave even though I prefer ribs. The cornbread and French fries were really good and our friend ordered their special corn ribs that day and those were unique and top notch! Side of Mac & cheese was also 👍🏼 Definitely worth the stop! I’d pass on the ribs though unless the batch we got that day happened to just be a meh batch.

The staff at Smokin’ George’s were friendly and helpful, and service felt genuine. However, as a smokehouse, I expected great BBQ — but the ribs were underwhelming. Our first order came out cold, and while they quickly replaced and warmed them up (adding a free slice of banana bread as an apology), the flavour was good but the meat wasn’t even close to fall-off-the-bone tender. On the brighter side, the cilantro and pepper soup was outstanding — full of flavour, perfectly seasoned, and comforting. I also asked to try their homemade pickles, and as a pickle enthusiast, I was genuinely impressed — tangy, crisp, and packed with flavour. Overall, excellent service and great sides, but the BBQ itself needs improvement

We only got the Nanaimo bar here but this was our favourite Nanaimo bar in the city! Perhaps in spite of the bacon? The custard layer was creamier, possibly because of more custard powder. The nuts added a good contrast too.

Amazing food and service!! Everything tasted amazing - favorites included the corn bread and pulled pork. Chris’s crazy corn - corn ribs smoked and deep fried - probably the best corn I’ve ever had. The Nanaimo bar with bacon bits and pretzel bits was also super good!!

We ordered two brisket meals with sides and were really disappointed with the quality. The brisket was served cold and lacked the tenderness you’d expect from a proper smokehouse. As shown in the pictures, it was dry and tough—more like a leftover piece of dried meat than freshly smoked brisket. Definitely not worth the money or the time. We were expecting a flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth experience, but sadly, this missed the mark completely.

Went in on wing wendsay to get wings, of course. We came during happy hour which is 9pm- close. On the menu it shows food items for their 9pm-close happy hour but yet when we got there at 9:45pm they informed us that they were no longer serving food. We decided we would just order drinks then and go for food somewhere else. We ordered our drinks, there were 4 other people in the bar, then proceeded to watched the server stand there and laugh with the bartender for ten minutes and then walked out because who wants to wait over 10min for drinks when what we really wanted was wings and the menu states they still serve them. Attached is the happy hour menu they have.

Really good atmosphere, good selection of food and drinks. Plentyyyy of seating, even for large groups. It can take a little bit to get your food but will be super hot when you get it. First place I learned about a drink similar to a shaft, but without any espresso.

Came to watch the 4 nations hockey game and it was a wild crowd, so fun watching with many other people with much passion for Canada. Service was poor, which I understand cause the place was completely packed, but unfortunate. Always have good deals going on and bar food was as good as bar food can get.

Best quesadilla I’ve ever had. Very attentive and good service from Isaiah. Definitely will be coming back when I go to Nanaimo.

Great pub! We sat at the bar enjoying the football game while having great drinks and great food. Nachos are definitely recommended.

Service is better at the bar. Good selection of drinks. Got the mozza sticks and fries and they were good. Staff were friendly. Washroom facilities were very clean.

Vibes are cute and quaint - nice addition of a 24 hour bakery in town! They have funny merch on the side too. The baked goods options vary depending on the day and time, but you’ll always have some Nanaimo/tangent bar available to curb the cravings. Would recommend dropping by during your visit, especially during the night time when options are limited haha

We ordered two items: 1. Nanomia Bar I didn’t like this one at all. The bottom biscuit layer was nice, but I didn’t enjoy the taste of the top layers. I’ve tried many similar bars before, and this was my least favorite. 2. Cheesecake This was really good—well made and nicely balanced. Everything about it was enjoyable. I strongly recommend giving it a try!

2 days in a row because we are in the know! Best cheesecake and Nanaimo bar ever. I gifted treats to my dad, whom turned Popeye after 1 bite of heaven. My neighbor deserved cheesecake for tolerating my kids too! And of course, we had a lot of fun testing each others. The staff comes across as really caring. They were thoroughly navigating endless orders, While red and trev both hustled behind the scenes. This place is busy, and you will see why after the first bite, of absolutely anything you order. What a great little bakery. We stopped here on recommendations from a local person while we were searching for a Nanaimo bar. The lady working the counter was very friendly and helpful. Cool vibe and atmosphere in the bakery with lots to look at. We had Nanaimo bars, beef rolls and samosas to take on the road with us. Everything was top notch and very enjoyable. Make sure you check this place out when in Nanaimo.

Janeen was our server both times we dropped by and it was the best Nanaimo Bar in Nanaimo! The filling was incredible fresh and coconut-y, and the bars are much thicker than its contemporaries across Nanaimo. I absolutely loved it and would love to return some day. Very wholesome little store that had its own Hot Wheels collection as well, which was maybe my favourite quirk in all of Nanaimo.

It’s a friendly bakery. Unfortunately for me the Nanaimo bar was too sweet especially the custard layer. Found it one dimensional and fluffy. The spinach feta pastry was decent.

Was hoping to try the Nanaimo bar and nanaimo bar cheesecake but was sold out, we were going to return and try the next day but they had to close and we had a ferry to catch. We tried the turtle cheesecake for $8. It was really good, more of a whipped cheesecake, could use slightly more cheese taste. Loved the to go container and how each one has the fresh toppings added when you order.

Great spot for a fun night out! Milton Street Public House has a lively atmosphere, solid cocktails, and a great selection of small plates — perfect for sharing. The patio is a bonus on a nice evening. It’s family-friendly in that kids are welcome, but there’s no dedicated kids’ menu. That said, there are a few options little ones might enjoy, though they’re definitely priced more for adults. All in all, a great place for a casual night out.

The vibe here is fantastic, complemented by excellent service and delicious food. The cod fish and chips are perfectly crispy on the outside and moist inside, with just a hint of fishiness that adds to the freshness. The flatbread has great flavor, making it a standout. The kale Caesar salad is fresh but quite dense, consisting solely of kale, which made it a bit dry by the end. Overall, I highly recommend this place—the food is generally excellent, and the service is top-notch.

Huge surprise, my wife Susan and I have a day off adventure regularly. By chance, she chose this place because of its ratings and that it is a Public House. On this day it seemed appropriate, St Patrick's Day. Service was excellent, food, more then delicious...and reasonably priced. We will be back! 😋

A charming spot for a delightful meal. The chicken was superb, moist with a crisp skin. The atmosphere is warm and intimate. Cocktails were delicious. Servers were kind and accommodating. Highly recommend if visiting the area.

Dropped in tonight after searching for well reviewed restaurants near our hotel. Food was delicious. The sweet spicy flatbread was fabulous. Young male waiter, friendly and down to earth, treated us with the casual attentiveness you would expect is reserved for regulars. Really enjoyed our evening. Shout out to Kim who talked to us before we even went in. Great staff and food!

Excellent little restaurant my only complaint is bad fries. Those gross battered sysco fries even with a little jazzing are still embarrassing when so many other items on the menu were obviously handmade. Loved my pasta, the club wrap was spicy and flavourful, the salad dressing was excellent but definitely missing proper french fries

This can be a really cute place after 9AM and on sunny day. I love the vibe but if it’s a bit bigger so that I can have more place to explore as well as take pictures, that would be great.

Old City Quarter is such a charming part of Nanaimo with a unique vibe you don’t find everywhere. The area is filled with little shops, cafés, and restaurants, each offering something special and different from the big chains. Walking around feels relaxed and inviting, with heritage buildings adding to the character. It’s a great spot to browse, grab a coffee, or discover local treasures. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, Old City Quarter is definitely worth exploring and enjoying!

I came from Vancouver to explore the Old City Quarter, and when I arrived it was all closed and very quiet because of Thanksgiving. Most shops and cafés were closed, so I didn’t get to see much of the usual local vibe. Still, I loved the heritage-style buildings and cozy streets — it feels like a place full of character. I can imagine it’s much livelier on regular days with the local boutiques and restaurants open. I’ll definitely come back another time to see it in full swing.

Lots of little shops to visit. First, we went for breakfast at the Breakfast Nook, which really is such a great place and good meal. Then we went into Kitties and Cream to buy cat toys for Fancy and Awesome. They had cats in for adoption, so we played and petted the fur babies there. That was really a gun adventure.

Nanaimo’s old city is a wonderland of art, beauty, romance, culture, and good food! We enjoy very much the great change of scenario from an ordinary big city to a tiny fancy tourist district!

I inquired about getting a custom cake made for my sisters baby shower. The service from all staff but especially the manager, Liam was great! The cake was absolutely delicious, not overly sweet which is always a concern. The only negative about the cake is that I ended up proving all toppers aside from a bit of rosemary only because the cost to have any fondant made significantly increases the price. If I wanted 2 small fondant animals made (flat not even 3D), it was going to add another $50! Overall though, I was very happy with the experience and would order from here again next time I need a custom cake or cupcakes. I would have loved to try some other pastries from the bakery but the prices are way too expensive- there was nothing under $6. The bakery itself is very small with no seating and is not very aesthetic so I think it’s catered more to custom orders.

We had to get some Nanaimo bars while in Nanaimo! If you don't know, this is a classic Canadian dessert, and this spot does an amazing job! The bottom layer is chocolate, ghram cracker, coconut and nuts. The middle layer is a buttercream custard, and a layer of chocolate on top. They also do a great feature flavour, it was passionfruit and mango during our visit. The two cost: $12.39. While there is no gettingaround the kick-in-your-teeth sweetness, Hearthstone does a nice job of adding some complexity to the flavour. The quality of the chocolate was amazing! It is worth noting this is a take-out only bakery.

A perfect aroma hits your face as you enter. Amazing place for croissants and baked goodies.... Everything is soooooo good, the pastries are just so beautiful and it's huge ..... Their sausage rolls are to die for ( not in the picture ate it right away). You get carried away and buy everything..... The girls at the till are really friendly.. I highly recommend this place....

I ordered a custom cake and paid $115 upfront for the cake. I provided a photo of the exact cake I wanted. I confirmed with me that they could execute the requested design. The cake was a completely different colour. There were no cherries as the baker “forgot”. They blamed the colour on the type of butter they use. I myself am a baker and know that any quality of butter will turn the icing a yellow hue. Any experienced baker would know you add purple to cancel out the undertone. The piping was terribly done, looked sloppy and was sliding in certain areas. It looked nothing like the photo. When I sent an email and complained I received a response from Liam essentially saying tough luck. I wasn’t offered a refund- or even a partial refund. I then provided photos as proof and was ignored. Take your business elsewhere. They will take your money without telling you they don’t have the skills to pull off your requested design then deliver a sloppy discoloured cake and ghost you.

Went in today, (Saturday May 24th at 4:00ish), and found a yummy looking cake, (salted caramel-chocolate cake) We were greeted by a very friendly and super helpful young man. Got the cake home, and it was moist and delicious, it was iced perfectly! So good, Thank you for a wonderful experience.

My favourite bakery in Nanaimo. Their Peanut Butter Crunch Nanaimo bar is the the best variation in my opinion. They have delicious galettes too. Their cinnamon bun is also delicious. On the smaller side so their selection isn't very big, but what they do make is really good and they switch it up, so there's often something different.

Delicious in-house made ice cream and waffle cones. The smell of the waffle cones is what led me there, and the friendly staff reminded me that it had been too long since I visited. This is a standard ice cream/gelato shop, but unfortunately, the flavors didn’t quite stand out. The gelato didn’t fully capture the taste I was expecting and fell short of what I would hope for from a homemade-style gelato.

I would consider myself an ice cream aficionado and let me tell you this place has some of the best real gelato and homemade ice cream flavours. It's incredible the owner makes all the flavours themselves, I haven't had them all but I've taste tested plenty along with having quite a few others and never not been impressed, it makes it so hard to choose when there because I promise you they will all taste amazing. Somehow they all taste so real like take the root beer, one of my personal faves, it tastes remarkably like an actual can of root beer down to tasting the carbonation almost somehow through the ice cream. The nanaimo bar gelato is another fave that tastes like nanaimo bars were smashed into the ice cream somehow and that's the theme you'll find with all the flavours. I first discovered this after moving back to Cedar recently as some family was visiting and we were looking for a good gelato. We mistakenly went into another ice cream shop that's close by a few doors down, thinking it was the right one we had read amazing reviews on, but alas it was not and we were incredibly disappointed. We walked out and we were leaving when we came by this place and quickly realized this was the one we read about, but we didn't want to have another ice cream. We walked in and talked with the owner who was there, she worked her magic and had us tasting every flavour and soon we all just had to try it. It was all incredible, everybody was so happy with all the flavours they got and some nanaimo bars for my brother in law. She just really turned around a poor experience that night and I've been loyal since not only for the incredible service but more importantly the phenomenal gelato So much so I even order it every year a couple times all the way out to Cedar on door dash and I am so so happy they allow it as an option

Before we arrived I was saying I'd love to get a Nanaimo Bar Gelato, hoping they had one along the waterfront and this place did! Very excited, but also lived up to exactly what I hoped it would be. My mouth is watering just thinking about it

The ice cream was so good that we went twice during our 3 days on the island. Loved that they had a gluten free cone! The service was outstanding!

I wanted to purchase a baby size ice cream but the shop keeper wanted me to bring the baby and prove it to her that the baby is indeed under three years old. It is preposterous that i can’t buy ice cream to take it to a baby but have to carry the baby to the store to prove it to her. Wouldn’t be surprised if on bringing the baby I’d be asked an ID card to prove its age. The ice cream was good though

Pretty much what you’d expect from a Costco. good deals, lots of variety, and usually busy. Parking can get a bit hectic but it’s manageable. Staff are helpful and check-out is pretty smooth if you go at the right time. Solid place to stock up.

I was at Nanaimo Costco. Not realizing they closed earlier today, I became a little frustrated when I heard the 2cd line I was in was closed. I had a moderate number of items but Milan was quick to move the closure to after my buggy. I did not start the conversation very politely yet Milan and the cashier maintained a very friendly and chatty conversation. Shame on me - well done for them.

I have recently moved to the Island and this is the nearest Costco to my new home. I find it FAR too small for the number of customers using the store. I usually love shopping at Costco and am used to spending a considerable amount of money there, but this store is SO crowded that I find that I spend less time (and consequently less money) in the store just so that I can get out as quickly as possible. I really hope that Costco considers either expanding this location or perhaps building a second store in Nanaimo (with a gas bar!)

I was in the store getting a Costco membership for the first time yesterday and the customer service associate tried pushing me into signing up for a credit card in the same breath. Which I one, didn’t ask for, and two wasn’t offered or asked about. The employee took my drivers license to fill out details for the membership, had me pay for the membership, then just kept asking me questions and putting a tablet in front of me with more questions and boxes to fill out before I realized what was awry based off the questions. I asked, “This is a credit card application?” To which he replied, “Yes, it is.” He had not disclosed to me before that it was one, asked me if I wanted one, or mentioned a credit card whatsoever before this point. Something which I have never experienced anywhere I’ve ever gone before. Anytime there is a credit offer on the table, they are very clear about it, as I believe they are legally required to be. Which with additional context, the entire encounter makes even more sense, because he didn’t even ask me what membership I wanted, or give me the option of gold or executive, he just took my drivers license and immediately signed me up for the executive and I only found out what one I was getting (by his choice it seemed) when he asked for $136 for the membership. In my case that’s okay, because I wanted the executive membership anyways, but assume I didn’t. He has now not only given me a membership I didn’t specifically ask for, nor asked me about, and then tried roping a credit card into the equation by acting like it was all part of the same membership process. When I said I don’t want the credit card, he looked as if I had thrown him off a boat into the ocean and asked, “Well how are you going to pay for your groceries then?” As if I didn’t just pay for the membership with my own credit card 3 minutes prior. I wont put the employees name here, as I don’t believe that’s fair, and they are likely being forced to do these more than shady tactics by corporate directive, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. A side note, unrelated to all of these specific complaints, he also just kept congratulating me for coming in, on getting the membership, congratulating me on the deals they have, etc. It felt very very off putting, as if I was signing up for an MLM. Especially alongside how the rest of our interaction went. If you want a membership, I highly recommend just signing up online so you can ideally choose the one you want and avoid their borderline illegal sales tactic to get you signed up for their credit card alongside it.

I had one of the most stressful moments today when I realized I had lost my wallet, with all my IDs, credit cards, and bank cards inside. I had no idea where I’d left it and was completely panicked. I searched everywhere and didn’t even imagine it was at Costco. Later that night, I got a call from Steve, one of the managers at Costco, letting me know they had found my wallet. What amazed me even more is that my Costco membership card wasn’t in the wallet! but Steve went above and beyond. He took the time to look into the system, found my phone number through one of IDs, and reached out to me personally. I can’t explain how relieved and grateful I felt. Steve didn’t just do his job, he showed real kindness, honesty, and care. I truly appreciate what he did, and I believe Costco is lucky to have someone like him on their team. As a Costco member, I’m proud to be part of a company that has such dedicated and trustworthy people. Thank you, Steve , you turned a very stressful day into a moment I’ll never forget.

The staff at front customer service desk is very unprofessional! . I went to get gold membership today. (Oct 25)I did my research & I already decided what I wanted before hand, Upon arrival, The Asian lady at front desk keep promoting me executive membership which I did not want. I verbally give some hints that I do not want executive membership & but seems like she is never understanding it. It’s more than 5 times she keeps pushing me. The chat was going more than 15 minutes , Then I finally ask, Are you guys not giving the gold membership anymore? The she replied “there is nothing like that” but she did not start the process!! It was more than the limits , We left the store!! You should be shameful!! #costco canada#CostcoNanaimo

Was in town for a conference and hit the Nanaimo Bar for two nights of fun. Staff was friendly and drinks came out quickly even with a fairly large party (30+ both nights) on top of regular crowd. Missed the musician on the first night but the DJ on Friday was pretty strong and when our group flooded the dance floor he upped his game to 11. One of those small town bars that have been around forever. It's got some wrinkles but she still knows how to have a good time. Did not have food so no rating.

Drinks were great and everyone was so nice! Chatted with the family who owns the bar as they decorated for Halloween and had a lot of fun. Definitely coming back next time we're in town!

Stopped in here last night on a whim with two friends and had an excellent evening. The staff, Jason, was professional, warm, welcoming and funny and spoke so highly of both the owners and his fellow staff that I didn't want it to go unnoticed. From the quick service, to the great music and selection to of beers/alcohol it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and we will be back. The other patrons seemed very comfortable, and there was a wide mix of people which is always lovely to see. Thank you so much for such a great evening!

Last night, I paid a $20 cover to see a DJ. The music was fine, but the experience was ruined by the male bartender’s behavior. My friend and I ordered one drink each. When he later offered us another round, we both clearly said no and asked for the bill. Despite this, he returned with two more drinks. When we reminded him we hadn’t ordered them, he insisted we had and then slammed his fist on our table when we refused them. This was aggressive, unprofessional, and made us feel unsafe. I will not be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this venue to anyone who expects respectful service.

So welcoming and chill! It really feels like the neighborhood bar you want. The drinks are great and the bartender is awesome! I love that you can order food from next door (sushi!) and have it brought to you here!

We had a lovely visit to the bar. Jason the bar tender was an exceptional host. He was telling us about the owner Sonia, who according to him is an awesome person who tends bar on the weekends and everyone in the community loves her. Sorry we missed you Sonia. As we were drinking our beer, we enjoyed the background music which was upbeat. Overall a positive experience, alas we won't be in town when a band is playing which is our misfortune. I think we would have enjoyed our visit even more. Check it out of you are in the vicinity.

I had a surgery last week at the hospital and it required an overnight stay. All the staff were excellent. Attentive and caring. They do their best with limited resources. However, they put me in a room with a man who coughed and wheezed for 8 hours before they moved him to another floor. At 1:30am another patient was brought in. Three days after getting home, I had the worst cold that I can ever remember. I’m 75… not a good thing at my age trying to recover from surgery. 6 days after surgery, I tested positive for Covid. Great job Nanaimo hospital. Two things I know for sure are: 1) no one stays at a hospital to get sleep and 2) no one stays for the food. The portions were small but then again, if you’re hungry you don’t complain about the poor quality of the food when they serve you.

The facilities at NRGH perinatal unit exceeded my expectations. The nurses and doctors handling mine and my baby's care were kind and compassionate. I have not always had great experiences with our medical system, but I felt seen, heard, and taken care of by every single incredible nurse I saw during my stay. Thank you to your amazing team.

If I could give ZERO stars I would…I went there with my 5 month old at around 7:20a.m on September 21st today. The receptionist was great. We got sent into a room and waited FOUR HOURS, just for the doctor who was sitting in front of us all along laughing it up with his colleagues pretty much the entire morning. The nurse tried putting a cord over my partners face while he was sleeping on the bed while she could’ve just went around the bed in the first place! Took them 2 minutes to diagnose him after all of that waiting. That doctor could have took that 2 minutes out of his stupid chit chatting to help my baby who was in pain, couldn’t eat and crying.

6-8 hour wait for our son who has asthma and was struggling to breath.. this place is an absolute joke! As I’m writing this review in the hospital with our son I can hear the nurses and doctors chatting away swearing might I add. I know all about their lunch and weekend plans and how annoyed they are with other patience in here. I’ve watched 3 nurses stand and talk about home-sense for over an hour! Oh and now we have moved on to dungeons and dragons conversations with the doctors, Do not recommend bringing anyone here!!! Will be going to parksville or Ladysmith going forward.

On July 10/25 I received a pacemaker at Nanaimo general hospital. The surgery was done by Dr. Blair Rushdon Brown and Dr. Kyle Wilson handled the anaesthetics. They were assisted by OR nurses Jas and Jenn. Both doctors and both nurses spoke with me as I waited outside the OR. All four of them introduced themselves by their first names, which I greatly appreciated. All four of them spoke clearly and in layman terms about what was about to happen. I felt great going into surgery. The operation was done efficiently, with me being partially aware of my surroundings. I had no nausea post surgery, thanks to Dr. Kyle. I was able to thank everyone as I exited the OR. I felt great, and have continued to feel great some eight days post surgery. Many thanks to this wonderful team and the nursing staff at Nanaimo General Hospital.

Spent almost 2 weeks here with an ailing husband. We started in Emergency, then cardiac unit then Palliative. Every nurse, doctor and support staff was incredible. Great care here.

I have a spinal chord injury from a previous cervical spine disk pressing into my chord. Had surgery years ago to fix the structural issue. I fell and am having all kinds of neurological issues again. 1st emerge visit I was admitted. But they couldn't do an mri as an inpatient bc they have no staff to run it. Lol. Finally got one months later outpatient. I have a disk bulging again a lever lower. Noone called with my results as I became more and more unwell. Sat in emerge another night from 10pm until 6am feeling worse and worse. Noone cared. Sitting position for that long increased my spinal chord pain to the point of unbearable. I had to leave to lay flat. Leaving this island to get care. That hospital does not know what triage means. I am a nurse and can not believe the lack of knowledge in the people who work there. I don't need another spinal chord injury bc Noone there has knowledgeabout my condition. Scary given the number of elderly on this island. Healthcare is unattainable here. I've had to get my imaging and get to toronto for actual care.

Great coffee shop across the water! The latte was smooth and there’s a wonderful selection of pastries! 🥐 I ordered the cheddar chive scone and the raspberry pistachio muffin. Both were delicious and moist. Recommend if you’re in the area! There’s also a patio if the weather is nice ☀️

Jan 24/2024 - Always a delight to have a coffee here. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. I got a caramel macchiato and cheese scone which both were perfection! Such a lovely spot! Some cool tables and seating. Very unique and modern design. Love the lighting. The staff is super friendly and the service is quick. I tried the Carmel Macchiato and a blueberry muffin. The only issue is that parking is hard to find. They have two spots but you have to find street parking most times.

My first time visiting this drip coffee joint and it is amazing! Wonderful customer service, the two girls working this morning were so kind and very fast when making my delicious drink. I love this place and the workers here, i will be coming back very soon!!

Great coffee and location! Wish this location was regularly open all weekend/on long weekends, as it's great for hospital shift workers, but still love grabbing coffee here when I can! Would recommend!!

New location is great! Spacious, clean, comfortable and stylish. Staff are friendly and helpful. Menu is what you'd expect from Drip: lots of different nice coffees, bars, and sandwiches. Decent vegan options (one bar, one cookie, one salad, one sandwich) and they can make most drinks vegan. Prices aren't cheap, but you're paying for ambience and quality. The perfect place to study or hang out. Close to the hospital and directly across from Central Drugs pharmacy. Bathrooms available with code.

New place. Open just over a month now. Great location. Right across from the Nanaimo hospital. Fresh vibe. Modern industrial. Clean lines. Steel tables. Concrete floors. Funky lights. Outdoor patio. Unfortunately the coffee was supper bitter today even with 3 creams. Food bowls and sandwich look fresh. Will try next time. 3.5. I think they could bump that up to a 5 by fixing the coffee and stocking the shelves. Merch is cool but should be way more prominent.

My partner and I are in here usually a couple of times a month, and each time we are so impressed with the level of care, knowledge and service we receive from the ladies here! Not only do they know their product, but they are so attentive to our needs and likes, readily suggesting options. They are also so on the ball when it comes to the coupons, both their internal coupons as well as those offered by Journie Rewards. We always feel welcomed and well looked after here. Thanks for all you do and keep up the awesome work!

Staff are always friendly and helpful. A large selection of items with new things regularly coming in. Easy to get to, it's located near the #20A and #40 bus routes, though many more buses stop at Woodgrove mall nearby. Plenty of free parking in the mall, too.

I have always had great experiences coming to this store. The employee that works here is always super helpful and happy. However, today there was a new employee that was very short tempered. She had asked me if I had any offers in my email. I told her I didn't see any. She rung up my purchase and then proceeded to laugh. She told me that I would not be getting my deals today and that it's a lesson I have to learn the hard way. She then provided me info that deals come out on Thursday. Had I known that I would have known to scroll back through more then a few hundred emails to find it. Way to go. You've lost a customer!

I absolutely love the staffs at M&M food market by Mary Allen drive. They are always so friendly and willing to help anyone finding products. Danielle and Karen were super nice, and Danielle helped me find all things on my list!! You two made my day!!! Thank you so very much again.

We visited this store today and were assisted by the most wonderful customer service person. She was personable and helped us choose some delicious items. I didn’t get her name but she was great!

I used to really like M&M Fod Market. This time I found the dishes were lacking in flavor. They were kind of bland and boring.

Faster pace night club of the “Nanaimo Trio” (Palace Hotel, Sweet Spot being the other two.) There will be a cover, drinks are priced standard, VIP space available for extra cost. Drinks also at bartenders discretion for special. Security staff firm fair and mostly friendly ( professional)

i went here last night and had a woman start yelling at me while i was talking to one of her friends. she ended up putting hands on me and i pushed her off telling her not to touch me. security came over and immediately grabbed me by the wrist in a very painful way. i was being extremely respectful and said immediately that i would leave and was trying to say that the woman attacked me and the security guard did not care and kicked me out by dragging me by my wrist and took my photo without asking or telling me why. this whole situation made me never want to return or give them any more of my money. in a situation where i was a victim and was unsafe, i was treated like i was a criminal.

Positive Service staff are friendly and efficient, and the lights and atmosphere are solid. Neutral The building is designed in such a way that security has its work cut out for them, so they are a little more active and no-nonsense than average, but I don't think it's unwarranted. Negative They don't seem to pick good DJs/playlists as often as I would like. 1/3 of the time the music is good and everyone's having a great time, but the other two thirds the music isn't fun to dance to and the mood/energy given off causes everyone to be standing around trying to seem cool instead of having fun.

I went out with my beer in hand through the main door. Came back so hey would let my husband out as well. And they grabbed the beer from my hand two men so hard as if I was a dinquent, they used unnecessary force. I told the guy if they had told me I could not take it outside I'd simply come inside and finish. But these security are brainless just there to use force before words. Plus Latino night didn't have much of Latino music.

Went there as a DD( designated driver) and got kicked out. I have to admit I did stumble up the stairs to the bathroom but as I said I was the dd. I paid for a pop after I went pee and then they they kicked me out and then got the cops involved. Bouncer with the cowboy hat is a joke.

Great place to experience. Came from edmonton to vacation out here and had to come experience the night life in Nanaimo.

Wow… disappointing security is up tight. I was looking for my drunk friend who was puking in the bathroom. As I was waiting for them to get out of the bathroom I was kicked out for “being to drunk”. Black cowboy hat is a fool

IYKYK.. Drink prices are okay but comparable to other clubs, the establishment doesn't do any advertising of it's own so it's not busy most of the time, relies solely on the event companies for all it's advertising. Be cautious of working with the GM, she is very stubborn so if it's not her way it's the highway. The onsite manager is lovely and he is very great to work with. General staff is also very pleasant and great to work with.

Went here for Ascent, the monthly goth/industrial/ebm night. Really enjoyed it! There were fantastic dj's (RAR & Samuel19), smoke machines, lights, nice ticket guy, super duper friendly, unpretentious bartender, great people (so many hugs!), great energy! Liked the vibe and layout alot! Clean bathrooms with lots of mirror space. Convenient free parking right across the street. Felt safe in the area. Wasn't 100% sure where to go until I realized why it's called Level Two (it's up the stairs). Will definitely go again! Thanks to everyone who puts on these events and makes the night awesome!

Ngl, this place is filthy gross. But hey, I met some random guy here 9 years ago and now we're happily married- so I guess it’s got charm. Five stars for fate, one star for hygiene.

So underrated! Great community of people that come out to shows here! Wanting to come out more to help support this great spot and enjoy more of the world class talent that stops by this intimate little venue!

Great music! Sometimes there are some not good people in there but other than that it's a good club.

Absolutely incredible time. The music is always top tier drinks are well priced. They bring in amazing DJs all the time and take the time to set up for each show.

You will not find two harder working women than Kim and Katie. These two are actual miracle workers! They worked tirelessly to get us our mortgage under challenging and unique circumstances and got us a fabulous rate. I can't say enough about how amazing they are. Highly highly recommend!

They get 100% of the mortgages they get! The 80% they don't want to deal with move on to other brokers and lenders who get the job done! I thought when you dealt with broker the "banks compete"... Nope!!!! Get multiple quotes from multiple brokers... remember all the marketing... when banks compete????.... make sure you see multiple offers!!! If you get just one you are being led down the garden path.

Kim was able to get us a better rate than expected, as well as a slightly higher mortgage than we were approved for as we went over budget. We will call her for any future house purchases.

Don't order anything for pick up. I am still waiting to get my order that is paid for. It's sitting at walmart. But there to lazy to get it ready . It's been a week since I was supposed to pick it up.

Tried the new weekend brunch menu. It was huge portions! Best prices in town on food and drinks! I had the potato pancakes which are very hard to find anywhere these days. They were crispy and generously covered in bacon. I tried a bite of my dining partners french toast. Best I've had anywhere. I'll be going back next weekend to order that.

Great local pub. The servers remember your name your beer, they're great and friendly. It's awesome local bands have come back to The Well. The food..... Their fish and chips, the fish takes up the whole plate!!! The decor is quite dated, but it adds to the charm. Check'em out.

I remember it was a wonderful place to visit. After several years I returned to this pub for a few beers and lunch. To my surprise it was not what it used to be. Such a disappointment. My bottled beer came with a lime stuck in the opening and no glass. Men’s washroom smelled bad. Dinner like it came from a buffet steam table. Service poor. Couldn’t help notice what appeared as management behind the bar having a pint or two dropping a few F bombs. The actual bartender was also behind the bar but conducted herself appropriately fine. Guess the old Pub Charm is lost. Sad

Great old-school pub in the heart of Nanaimo! Outdoor patio open for smokers. Accessible through the enclosed sun room. Great place to watch the playoffs!

Food was yummy, service at first was great then couldn't find anyone...other patrons left without ordering...perhaps an off night. Will go back again. Very inexpensive!

Stopped in for lunch with a friend. Nice place and even though fairly busy it was still quiet so you could talk with out having to scream across the table, and no music playing. These days most bars are noisy and this was relaxing a great change. We sat at the bar,surprisingly to find they had a ton of scratch and win tickets for sale along with of course keno,poker and lottery and pull tabs. Reminded us of the US pubs. Great service, sorry didn’t get the bartenders name , the Cod and Chip special was a super good deal…Huge portions. It’s their Monday Special They even had a beer on tap I’ve not had for ages so that made for a great lunch. We will be back

Josh our waiter was the most amazing gentleman we have ever met. He was very attentive to our group. I would recommend this anytime to anybody. The atmosphere is wonderful and Josh has a fantastic sense of humor. It's a great place with fantastic staff. And by the way the bar food was phenomenal we had chicken wings and calamari and the most amazing Thai pork. It's a very friendly pub and Josh made our stay wonderful.

Staff were great, food was excellent. It is how a neighborhood pub should be. Everyone knows everyone else, simple menu, but tasty and filling. They are set up for games/trivia nights. If you go, would not recommend taking a huge party unless you call ahead. Looking forward to going again when I visit Nanaimo.

Food was delicious and the staff were super friendly and very kind! The interior decoration is cool, vintage maritime themed. The music was also enjoyable, the good old school stuff, seemed to have a range of 60s-90s content, I think. My coworkers and I had a fantastic time.

Quiet place - at least when we went, a Sun evening at 7:00 PM. But i had a very tasty blackened cajun chicken burger (one of my favourites on the Island), and even the steak sandwich next to me smelled so good, I couldn't help drooling just a little. Service was really good - waiter went over and above which I would expect when there aren't many customers in the pub. But still better than lot of other places.

Had a great afternoon/ lunch with .my daughter and won $112.00 at keno.Service was awesome so we're drinks but have to give food A big thumbs down. Not sure why but had to send both lunchs back was horrible.. But had such a great visit with my girl. It was so nice just the two of us alone, catching up..

Update: They offer marmalade again but the menu prices have gone up considerably for the breakfast offerings. Enough to deter someone from making it their regular breakfast spot. What used to be around the $10.50-$11.00 mark now costs about $14.00+. Update 2: They've introduced some nice menu items and make their buns in-house. The service is fantastic. I'm not sure if the pub is under new ownership or management but my last couple experiences have given me plenty of reasons to keep coming! Original review: We used to frequent the Windward for breakfast until they changed to a lower quality sausage and stop offering marmalade. They've also reduced the menu and the appetizer options are now quite limited and pricey. The service has always been pretty good and they've improved their draught beer offerings. I wish they would step up the quality of the breakfasts again because I miss it. They make a great clubhouse and they dividend it onto two plates when we ordered one to share.
