Park
Nature & Parks
Hillcrest Park is a beautiful and well-maintained park that honors the Lake Superior Regiment, established before Canada's confederation in 1867. The park boasts vibrant Sunken Gardens, stunning views of Thunder Bay's waterfront and the Sleeping Giant, a WWII memorial, and a playground for children. It is known for having the best view in town where visitors can climb stairs or relax on benches.
Beautiful scenic view. In my case, I saw several large ships, and a docked cruise ship. I knew lake superior cruises were a thing, but I didn't realize the size of the ships used. It was a wonderful and illuminating experience. I posted a few photos so people can have a small taste of what they can expect. It's so much better in person!

Hillcrest Park is an absolute gem in Thunder Bay. The view of the Sleeping Giant from the park is breathtaking—pictures simply don’t do it justice. You have to see it in person to truly appreciate its beauty. The park itself is well-maintained and offers a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely stroll or just sitting and soaking in the scenery. It’s a must-visit spot for anyone in the area, whether you’re a local or a tourist. Highly recommended!

Great views in a historic park. Stairs. Parking. A bell A couple of cannons. Do not try to fire the cannons. Nice garden adjoining the park with lovely flowers. When viewed from space, the park shares certain features with Marilyn. Enjoy the park.

A spectacular view from Hillcrest Park of Lake Superior and the Sleeping Giant Park. We visited the night of the Harvest Super Moon October 2024.
Patrick O — Google review
Beautiful and peaceful park. Offers stunning views of the city, the harbour, and the Sleeping Giant. The park is located in the north end of Thunder Bay, on a hill overlooking the lake. The park has a lot of green space, flowers, trees, and benches where you can relax and enjoy the scenery. The park also has a World War II memorial for the Lake Superior Regiment, which is a tribute to the soldiers who fought and died for Canada12. The park is well-maintained and clean, and has a playground for children and a gazebo for events. The park is open year-round, and is especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves change colour. The park is a great place to visit if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and appreciate the natural beauty of Thunder Bay. I highly recommend Hillcrest Park to anyone who loves parks and views. It is one of the best attractions in Thunder Bay and a must-see for visitors.

It's among the most beautiful and soothing spots in Thunder bay. Whenever I wanna refresh myself..this is the only place I'll ever go, u can see the beauty of nature and it's transformation during sun set and sunrise. I would recommend everyone to give visit this place, either during sunset or sunrise.

Hillcrest park is dedicated to the Lake Superior Regiment whose history predates Canada’s confederation in 1867. It has beautiful and very well kept gardens, a play area for children, a memorial the the Lake Superior Regiment (Motor) it has a commanding view of the Sleeping Giant and Thunder Bays Waterfront. We enjoyed our time walking in this beautiful park.
Colin H — Google review
It's my favorite park in town! I love how it is set up, with a variety of things all the way along the park. It's long and narrow. It's great for kids you start at the playground, move on to the cannons and tank. Take a walk and play on the hill, move to the flag. Walk some more and discover the bell, then cap it off with the big long slide. It's like an adventure. They love it. It's always well maintained. It's busy but never crowded and there's lots of parking. Also the best spot in town to watch the fireworks.

Donut shop

When visiting Thunder Bay, be sure to stop by The Persian Man to try their famous round pastries. These delectable treats are fried and topped with bright pink berry icing, and can even be toasted and served with butter. Whether you're exploring the stunning views of Ontario or simply looking for a tasty snack, this charming city has something for everyone. Additionally, don't miss the opportunity to sample local sandwich shops while on a road trip - they make for a satisfying meal on the go.
This was a great place for donuts and quick eats, and it was really close to Lakehead University. The staff are friendly and in my experience the location had a calm, down-to-earth atmosphere. Their signature "Persians" are a staple item and worth a visit if you enjoy donuts. The original raspberry flavour is excellent. Their baked bread, desserts, and especially their hot food items are excellent as well. If you are attending school nearby and see the Persians for sale, make sure you buy them or be sure to stop in. They also cater many events across the city too including graduation if you are attending Lakehead.
Tim W — Google review
Went here when visiting the area in June. The service wasn't terribly friendly. My first time there so I had questions. No smile, very short with her answers. It seemed as though she wasn't having the best day. So, I got the Persian but the orange color one as she said it was the same flavor as the pink but a percentage went to a special cause I can't remember what. Also tried some other sweets. I may have gotten more if I didn't feel like I was putting her out. Either way, the pastries were good. Also bought some bread. Not sure I'd go back though. She treated the next customer the same way. But they do offer lunch and there is ample seating inside. So, hopefully your experience is better than mine.
Roberta P — Google review
For those of you who are wondering what a Persian is after being recommended one, it's a large yeast doughnut without a hole. Kinda like a Long John but wide as well (it's a pretty big pastry actually). What makes it special is the icing which is more like cake icing than your typical doughnut glaze. It's pretty good. Staff were very pleasant. Prices were reasonable. There were a variety of fresh and frozen baked goods available from the attached bakery. Dining area and rest rooms could use a thorough deep clean.
Gordon C — Google review
While spending several days in Thunder bay I did a search on local specialties, all the buzz was over the Persian, a cinnamon roll with pink icing. So we went to The Persian Man Bakery and purchased a few to see what all the fuss was about, and unfortunately we're disappointed. A Persian is basically a cinnamon roll style donut, deep fried, ours had very little cinnamon between the layers and had a pink icing that resembled a cream cheese frosting with maybe a hint of raspberry. Our examples, were ok, not bad , but unimpressive, and average at best. This may be unique here , but at home we could go to any bakery and get a similar product, but with multiple icing choices like: vanilla, chocolate, cream cheese, peanut butter, maple .... sorry.
Richard V — Google review
Okay, okay the Persian and all the rave. It’s a kind of cinnabun / donut covered in thick rich butter icing, original is pink and other flavours are available. It’s a little heavy for my taste, but they do have pastries and savory options here like soups and sandwiches. I did liked the decadent cream puffs and tarts. You can dine in or take out. Prices are reasonable for a bakery type establishment. They also sell breads and other convenience store items. A place to visit for sure.
Oregano909 — Google review
Omg. The donuts and coffee were the best! We shared an Italian sausage in a bun too. Highly recommend!
Rebekah W — Google review
The Persian Man is an absolute Thunder Bay staple — and for good reason! Their desserts are out of this world — soft, sweet, and perfectly indulgent. The famous Persian is always fresh and delicious, and every visit feels like a little taste of local tradition. The staff are warm, friendly, and always make you feel welcome. Whether you’re grabbing a quick treat or bringing a box home to share, The Persian Man never disappoints. A must-stop for anyone in Thunder Bay!
Dave L — Google review
We arrived at the store around 4:45 PM, excited to finally try this place after hearing so much about it. Unfortunately, we felt a bit rushed as the staff were getting ready to close, which made the experience feel a little hurried. We ordered the donuts with pink frosting. While the donuts were soft, they weren’t warm, and the frosting tasted fairly standard to me. I imagine that seasoned donut lovers may have tried more memorable options elsewhere. Overall, it wasn’t quite the standout experience we were hoping for. While it may still be worth trying for some, I wouldn’t say it’s a must-visit or something to rush for.

Grocery store
Maltese Grocery in Thunder Bay is a beloved spot known for its deli and specialty groceries. The store offers a variety of items such as meat, cheese, fresh bread, Italian food products, produce, sweet treats, and snacks. Customers highly recommend their homemade meatballs and meat lasagna from the freezer section. The grocery also features a deli where patrons can enjoy made-to-order sandwiches with locally sourced ingredients that are customizable to individual preferences.
Specifically reviewing the fresh made-to-order sandwiches you can get from this grocer. Absolutely delicious fresh cut meats that you can customize to your liking. I love how everything is locally sourced even to the sauces. You are able to customize every part of this sandwich and the variety is limitless. Price is by weight and makes for a quick and affordable meal. The service was quick and very friendly. Great with answering questions and tending to what we needed!
Priscilla W — Google review
I went grocery shopping today to get ingredients for pork cutlets tomorrow, and it just so happened to be right at closing time. I asked one of the staff about sirloin, and she called over him to help me. He was clearly in the middle of another task, but he kindly stopped what he was doing to find the sirloin for me. He asked me thoughtful questions about the thickness and how I planned to use the meat. After slicing off one piece, he even checked if the thickness was okay. Then he asked if it was for steak or something else, and when I told him it was for pork cutlets, he prepared the perfect thickness and portion for that. Even though it was the end of the day and he was already busy with something else, he didn't show any sign of frustration. I was really touched by how helpful and kind he was. He honestly felt like the owner of Maltese Grocery. The person in the photo is the kind employee who helped me. He was very kind the last time I visited, and he was just as kind again today. "Thank you so much💕🍀."

Their in-house sandwiches are phenomenal. If you get it on a regular bun or sub, you can’t go wrong. Their beef on a bun was unlike any other deli sandwich I’ve had. Thankful for the local that suggested to try their sandwich.

You’d think that you’re being treated to fresh meat by good ol’ farm boys in a great butcher shop, because that is just how awesome the meat is, and how polite, well-mannered, friendly and respectful the staff is, when they serve you!! 😊👍 They have smiles and are pleasant and helpful too! Just wonderful!! 😊👍

Top notch products and customer service! - I was looking for a specific item and three staff teamed up and organized themselves to help me do a 2-minute power search for it even though it was hopping in there. Super efficient and helpful.

Maltese is eye-wateringly expensive on most things without managing to significantly elevate the quality level re: their packaged goods. I mean come on.... an Italian grocer that doesn't sell any GOOD balsamic? Don't even get me started on what they try to charge for olive oil! That being said, they're as good as anywhere in town to buy meat - especially if you stick to sale items. The rest of their stuff, while very expensive, is usually of decent quality.

Casinos & Gambling
Gateway Casino Thunder Bay is a cozy casino that offers various slot machines, food, and cocktails. The establishment has a friendly atmosphere and an easily accessible floor. However, some visitors may find the size of the floor to be limited, and they could use more updated machines. One highlight was the beverage cart attendant who provided excellent service. Overall, gambling at Gateway Casino Thunder Bay was enjoyable with the added bonus of delicious ribs available for dining pleasure.
I tired their November Burger 2025. Oh man! It was delicious! Thick and juicy beef patty. Golden crispy fries. Amazing service. I am always a fan of their burgers. I have never been disappointed with thw food. I have been going here for years and will continue doing so for years to come.
Deebu C — Google review
BET ON GOOD STEAK! Who knew a casino restaurant could serve up such great food? I went to the Gateway Casino restaurant and was so impressed, I went back the next day! Day one started with tomato bisque — never had it before, but it was like a tasty mashup of seafood bisque and tomato garlic soup. Rich, flavorful, and packed with little tomato surprises. The Caesar salad? Good portion but salty both days. Told the chef, but the bacon didn't get the memo. The second day, I tried the vegetable medley soup. It was nice, good, and balanced, but not as good as the tomato bisque. The star of the show: the 8-ounce steak. Perfect char marks, juicy, and paired with creamy mashed potatoes and sweet corn. I asked for blue cheese crumble but got the creamy kind instead — guess I'll live. The servers were swamped but doing their best. Bonus points for the beeper system that lets you play a bit until your table's ready. Oh, and I was lucky that night — maybe it was the steak? Definitely going back!

Went on June 18, 2025. Had to wait as desk had no one there. Decided to eat at the restaurant. Was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. Order a simple meal with my wife after 30 minutes as I saw others getting their food that came in after us, I called the waitress over to voice my concern. Told it was a new menu and they were still working things out. I asked why others that came after us were already served. No real explanation. Manager was brought over and had no excuse , cook came out after we did get part of our order which was only warm as cheese was not melted. A burger takes 8 minutes not 40 minutes by the time they brought it out. Staff was pleasant and other than that everything else was terrible
Robert D — Google review
This bar has a serious issue with unprofessional management. One of the waitresses, who is apparently the boss, openly plays favorites depending on tips. If you tip her high, she’ll give back-to-back shots and ignore the rules. If you tip low, she gives dirty looks and suddenly acts like the rules matter. The hypocrisy is embarrassing. What makes it worse is she harasses her coworkers for doing the exact same thing she does. I was even told she said I wasn’t allowed service, yet when I was at the bar, she served me before without saying a word — until the tips weren’t high enough. That’s not enforcing rules, that’s just picking and choosing based on money. If this is the kind of behavior the ‘boss’ shows, it speaks volumes about how this place is run. Completely unprofessional, biased, and delusional.
KZA C — Google review
Washrooms are not the cleanest I’ve seen stool on the toilet seat reeks of piss and fish in the men’s washroom, empty Kelly’s fortified wine containers on the floor, I have no complaints about the gaming area as I don’t really gamble and if I do I spend max $100. The restaurant food is great but a lot of the wait staff could use some more training and be a little more polite, the one guy not sure on his name young East Indian gentleman never once checked up on us while we were eating so getting a refill on pop is almost impossible if you have him as a waiter, there is another waitress I believe her name is Colleen don’t quote me on it, however she argued with me over little things that should never happen, first thing of customer service customer is always right regardless. Fruit flies near my table a few times I’ve eaten there not on every occasion but a few times. Also they don’t wipe down the seat and I’ve had to brush food off it before I sit. It’s the only establishment that don’t allow you to pay the $5.00 up charge with the burger deal they refuse your money, supervisor says it’s cause there’s no button for it but there’s a button any other time… I’ve seen wait staff push through people standing at tables talking to other customers instead of saying excuse me. Over all I gave it 2 stars cause as someone who has owned a business I would never have treated customers that way.

Casino was good, cafe was awful. Coffee terrible service sub par. Ashley bragged about how good she was but.. We got our own cutlery, never asked how it was,no refills, went to till to pay they thought we were new customers 😕. French toast was hardly dragged through the egg. Give the cafe a 0 and the casino a 4.

I haven’t ever tried Red Lion before and was looking for something new to try that was local. I stopped in and had the popcorn chicken, WOW was it ever good. Food was terrible. Ordered steak & ale pie and mac & cheese, I have no idea how can you screw up these simple menus, floor was under staffs, service was super slow, at least 45mins until food was served and it was not cheap, not recommended and not anymore.

Came for the #UltimateBurgerChallenge Who can turn down a Lasagna Burger? Deep Fried!? Great on tap beer menu. Service was top notch from Bri, super helpful and sold me on a Scotch Egg.... Oh... and the burger, it was great! The marinara had a kick, the lasagna was great, and the roasted red peppers were a great touch.

Our server, Leah, was awesome! I love Red Lion for their gluten free foods (could live off of the popcorn chicken), but have had some slow or inattentive service in the past. But tonight, Leah was perfection! Quick, knowledgeable, funny, and checked on us enough so we knew we weren’t forgotten, but not so much that it felt awkward. Keep up the good work RL!

Service was absolutely top-notch! Jordan was an absolute legend – constantly checkin’ in on us even wi’ Jay’s game on the telly. The place was heaving, but you’d swear we were the only folk in the room the way he looked after us. Had a few cracking games o’ pool, some fine grub, and were treated like royalty start tae finish. Might even go for a pint wi’ the boy when he’s aff!

Saw this place online and liked the reviews and photos. 6ish on a Saturday night, we endured paralyzing construction, walking by a busy pub and found the sovereign room. Did a double take. See picture. Walked in and it was somewhat deserted and dark. Did have a fairly impressive draught list. Anyhow we went up the street and had a fine time.

Great Pizza, but Other Dish Fall Short I recently visited The Sovereign Room with high hopes of indulging in some delicious pizza. While the pizza certainly lived up to my expectations, I found the other food offerings to be rather lackluster. Let's start with the star of the show – the pizza. The Sovereign Roomtruly excels in this department. The crust was perfectly thin and crispy, with a delightful chewiness. The sauce had a well-balanced tanginess, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. Each bite was a delightful explosion of cheesy goodness. If you're a pizza lover, this place is definitely worth a visit. However, my excitement diminished when I tried some of the other dishes on the menu. The non-pizza options, such as Duck Poutine and Gravy, were quite mediocre. The flavors seemed to lack depth, and the execution fell short of my expectations. It felt as though the focus and attention to detail that went into the pizza were not replicated in the other dishes. On a positive note, the service at The Sovereign Room was friendly and attentive. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful recommendations. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, creating a pleasant dining experience. In conclusion, if you're craving excellent pizza, The Sovereign Room is a great choice. The pizza alone makes it a worthwhile visit. However, if you're looking for a well-rounded dining experience with consistently impressive food beyond the pizza, you may want to explore other options.

Excellent food and beer selection. Went with the Roulette pizzas (chef's choice) and got duck confit pizza and chicken Caesar salad pizza, both awesome. The potatoes are kimchi were excellent but massive. Way too much food in general.

The now-defunct Where to Eat in Canada recommended the Sovereign Room and with good reason. We shared the cauliflower bites which were fried in the most delicious zesty, lemony coating paired with a lovely dipping sauce as well as the insanely indulgent duck confit poutine which currently shared top spot for not luxurious and rich poutine I've had with a camembert poutine I once had. The duck is generous and the gravy is deeply flavoured. The fries themselves are mind-blowingly good. To finish of this rich meal, I recommend the Dante's Peak cocktail, it is such a creative cocktails, so light and refreshing, but also causes the same effect as a grappa of cutting through the full-bellied feeling. The service was also incredibly kind, rapid, and thorough. Cannot recommend this place enough.

The Terry Fox National Historic Person Plaque commemorates the courageous journey of Terry Fox, an amputee and cancer activist who ran across Canada to raise funds for cancer research. Located on a bluff with stunning views of Lake Superior and the Sleeping Giant, this memorial marks the place where Fox was forced to end his Marathon of Hope in 1980. The site features a nine-foot-tall bronze statue of Terry, set on a granite base laid on local amethyst foundation.
A beautiful memorial in a wonderful location. Lots of information about Terry's journey and very touching for everyone who reads it. The park is fairly clean and well maintained. Lots of parking available for no charge. It wasn't crowded so it was a great chance to take some time and appreciate all his affords and think about his journey.

So glad I was able to stop and visit this memorial to Terry Fox. Had wanted to do that for a long time. Lovely spot, easy parking, and beautiful views. There is no fee.
Its M — Google review
It was simply breathtaking to witness the summation of such a compelling part of Canadain history immortalized and preserved for generations to come. The view from the lookout/memorial will take your breath away. The sculpture of Mr. Fox beautifully captures the anguish and raw emotion that Terry was feeling during his trek. It serves to remind visitors that there is no limit to how resilient the human spirit is, and that our drive and ambition can inspire others to advocate for the good left in the world. We wandered inside the visitors center looking for souvenirs, and we were pleased to learn that the Fox family did not want to monetize Terry's efforts and prefers to not make any kind of profit from the memorial. I considered myself lucky to be able to witness the spot with Terry stopped and then stand in the shadow of his memorial.

What an emotional place. It is very well done. Terry is the greatest athlete to have ever lived. Forget Gretzky and Brady and Jordan. This guy ran a marathon every day on 1 leg and has raised billions for cancer research. My lord. What a legend.

Nestled in the heart of Thunder Bay, Lakehead Beer Company is a must-visit for craft beer enthusiasts. This vibrant brewery offers an impressive and diverse selection of brews, ranging from unique lesser-known styles to classic malt-driven lagers that cater to all palates. At their inviting taproom, guests can enjoy the freshest pints straight from the holding vessels or Brite Beer Tanks where each batch is carbonated and matured with care.
I've been to my fair share of Brew pubs and this is one of the finest. The atmosphere is cozy and cool. The beers are great and the food from Tomlin Subdivision was amazing. For anyone visiting who likes beer, food and atmosphere you MUST stop here.

Nice place with a very tasteful and well designed interior. Nice selection of beers. Had a pint of the Moon Dog hazy IPA and it was really good. For some reason didn't connect to the place and didn't like the atmosphere.. might be something to do with it being a Tuesday. Will give it another go next time in Thunder Bay

I had a fantastic experience at the bar! The bartender was incredibly helpful and enthusiastic while introducing the holiday menu. Their recommendations were spot-on, and I ended up choosing a delicious drink that perfectly captured the holiday spirit. Great service and great drinks—I’ll definitely be back!

I was recently there in Thursday June 5 2025 to do the open mic night on the patio. We started inside. The staff was friendly and helpful with my open mic questions. We then later moved to the outside patio where they added a bar. It looks and feels like it had always been there. Again, staff answered my questions and engaged in friendly banter. While we waited for open mic to start my husband and I played corn hole. A child at a picnic table nearby was cheering us on, it was really sweet! I did a song, got a free beer and danced a little. All things I love. And it all started around 7:30/40 so an early night which is good when you have a sitter at home! Would highly recommend, even if you don't want to sing just a chill Thursday night out.

One of the go-to places when visiting Thunder Bay. Good, refreshing, well balanced beer. The service has always been good, and the place has a good atmosphere. Recommend their Rauchbier (when available) - the smoky flavour is fantastic. Thoroughly enjoy their IPA as well.

We had a wonderful first experience at Lakehead Beer Company. Open late and attached to Tomlins Subdivision (fantastic food). Friendly and helpful staff. Looking forward to our next visit. I could see how parking might be an issue but we were lucky found a spot close. The washrooms are very clean. If you aren’t a beer person, try a shandy. My wife really enjoyed hers!
Bruce L — Google review
How do I possibly describe the beauty of this spot? It has such a warm, inviting feeling as soon as you walk in. The aesthetics are to die for. The silver gleam of the vats against beautiful wooden tones. The tables are created for conversation, allowing you to unwind and sit with friends and/or family. The variety of beers along with affordable pricing makes this spot a must! The amount of creativity that is required to put this small business together is unreal. The Beer is the clear hero… but I will take an amazing environment built for people who want to have a relaxing night out. The back patio and restaurant provide for more space to gather. Congratulations to the owners. You did an amazing job. Update: Cannot WAIT to visit my favourite vacation location again this summer. Sadly had to miss last summer and it devastated my husband and I. We will be back with bells and whistles on. Best owners ever and their staff are so incredibly personable and friendly. Love this spot.

I was visiting from Winnipeg and went in there to pick up a 4 pack of beers. I was instantly impressed with the atmosphere and the smell of the food! Do much so that I went there for dinner and took the in-laws. The food was excellent! Service was great! We even played a corn hole tournament!

Ice cream shop
If you're in search of a refreshing treat on a warm day, check out Prime Gelato in downtown Thunder Bay. This charming little shop offers delicious gelato that is sure to impress. On my first visit, I tried the dairy-free and vegan Coconut Lime flavor, which tasted just as fresh as the name suggests. I personally enjoyed the blend of flavors. My husband opted for the Bourbon Whiskey Vanilla Bean, but he found himself preferring the Coconut Lime as well.
They had dairy free options which was necessary for our group. Glad that we stopped and gave them our business. Great flavors and high quality gelato.
Mike J — Google review
They have vegan / dairy free options!! Didn’t love the pumpkin one but the dark chocolate truffle was so good and so was the raspberry lemonade! Staff was very nice and efficient, it was nice to get to sit outside their place too and enjoy the sun before it gets cold! Thanks for offering dairy free options and not just a fruity one! Much appreciated!
Jolene S — Google review
Always love coming to Prime for a sweet treat! The gelato options are constantly changing which is nice. The staff are always so friendly and give excellent recommendations. They open the garage door windows and the cross breeze is so lovely. The high top seats facing the waterfront are the best seats in the house. What a hidden gem we have!
Maddy B — Google review
This was our first time trying Prime gelato ice-creams. We had Coconut Lime which was dairy free and vegan. As fresh the name sounds, it tasted as fresh as well. I personally enjoyed the flavors together. The other one we ordered was Bourbon Whiskey Vanilla Bean for my husband but he enjoyed the Coconut Lime more. Overall a good experience. Personally I feel the single serve cups are an amazing idea but the packaging has a very small spoon in it. From the sustainability perspective, I would have loved if the plastic spoon was given to us on request rather than packed in a cup from the manufacturer. Quality and quantity of the ice-creams are 👍 worth the price!
Ruchi S — Google review
This is the only place I’ve ever tried gelato. So. As of right now this is the best gelato in the world! They have a bunch of delicious flavors like brown butter pecan, peanut butter fudge, and two of my favorites, double chocolate mint and snickers. Dairy free options are also available. There are no artificial colors or flavors. The sorbet they have is dairy free and apparently almost always fat free. I was able to walk in for the first time since the pandemic has started winding down. The service is friendly, and the product they sell may be more addictive than cigarettes in my opinion. I just hope you have more restraint than I do reader. Everything in moderation right? I could be a pint a day eater if I wasn't capable of feeling shame.
Mark W — Google review
Usually I love going here and other times I’ve had great experiences. However I was pretty disappointed yesterday when they only had 1 flavour available for everyone and no option to choose from.
Isabella D — Google review
This place is great and I love when they have pints but they are sold out so often! Still, their gelato is awesome and the flavours are always so unique

Really good gelato! I loved the double chocolate mint flavor. While I’ve heard they rotate the flavors, I kind of hope that flavor sticks around.

Restaurant
Lot 66 is an upscale and cozy restaurant and wine bar that offers a diverse menu featuring steaks, seafood, cocktails, and an extensive wine selection. The establishment has received positive reviews for its vegetarian and vegan options as well. Customers have praised the owner/chef for creating a welcoming atmosphere with something to please everyone.
A MUST TRY IN THUNDER BAY Dining at Lot 66 in Thunder Bay was an experience in refined culinary excellence. From the moment we were seated, the elegant ambiance and warm hospitality set the stage for an exceptional evening. We began with two appetizers: the calamari and the Diablo shrimp. The calamari was perfectly tender with a light, crisp coating, while the shrimp, though flavorful, leaned more toward mild than spicy. While the portion size was modest for a shared dish, the presentation and taste were delightful. The bread service was a pleasant surprise — soft, fresh bread accompanied by side-table mix of balsamic vinegar and oil, a sophisticated departure from the usual bread and butter. For the main course, I chose the steak with a shrimp skewer. The steak was cooked to perfection: a beautifully seared exterior with a tender, pink center, just as a proper medium should be. The shrimp skewer provided a succulent, savory complement to the dish. My dining companions opted for the salmon, which was impeccably prepared and visually stunning. The beverage selection was equally impressive. I indulged in an old-fashioned, crafted with precision and a smooth, well-balanced blend of flavors. The evening's highlight came in the form of dessert, suggested by Brie, the attentive and personable manager. This dessert was an extraordinary creation of caramelized whiskey, raspberry, and custard — a decadent blend of rich, harmonious flavors unlike anything I’ve tasted before. Additionally, we had a special Persian cake, which was uniquely smooth and pleasing to the palate. Lot 66 delivers an upscale dining experience characterized by exceptional food, attentive service, and an inviting atmosphere. Special thanks to Brie for her remarkable hospitality. This is a place I will undoubtedly return to, and I highly recommend it to those seeking a sophisticated culinary journey.

Incredible restaurant in Thunder Bay! I had the duck breast and my wife had the filet mignon. We shared a Caesar salad. The food was amazing! Our server, Brie, and was super kind and helpful. When we asked, she took time to recommend sites in the area, and was very personable with us. She was the perfect server!! We are only staying in Thunder Bay two nights, but we are tempted to go back tomorrow. I highly recommend this place!

Great!!!!! The ambiance was inviting, giving a memorable dining experience. I opted for the shrimp and scallop linguine, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. Each bite was bursting with flavor, showcasing the chef's mastery in the kitchen. The service was impeccable; our server went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met with a genuine smile. Though the prices might be on the higher side, every dollar spent felt justified considering the quality of the food and the overall atmosphere. I left the restaurant feeling thoroughly satisfied and already planning my next visit. A definite five-star gem worth restaurant!!!

This place was outstanding!! 👏 Favorite place my partner and I ate at on my last visit to Thunder Bay. Locally owned and operated. Managed to get let in during the last hour of service with no hassle thanks to management on the floor. The ceaser was seasoned perfectly. We had fresh bread which was offered before the meal. Followed with some of the oysters that were fresh that day, they were amazing. We could have eaten many more but reserved ourselves for dinner and appetizer. The mussels were a great start before dinner. Dinner was excellent, they had a vegetarian sausage pasta which my partner loved 😋🥰 I had the bolognese which I also enjoyed equally. For desert my partner finished off with a happy size of Skor cheese cake with two piles of whipped cream. Importantly I'd like to mention; portion size left me very satisfied, my server Ben was top notch!!. Also to the kitchen the food was outstanding thank you. Lastly Management thanks for flexing us in on the last hour 🥳 More id like to mention; the restaurant has a patio, was playing moden light edm music another highlight of the experience and parking close by.

Great food, exceptional service. Definitely get the pasta dishes, they are completely homemade. The staff was so attentive, we just mentioned needing some heat on the patio for our grandmother and they went above and beyond to place us close to the outdoor heaters and that she was comfortable when she arrived.

Ordered the duck breast that came with a cassis blueberry reduction, mushroom wild rice mix and seasonal vegetables. The duck was seared perfectly and seasoned really well. Also cooked to a perfect medium rare. Vegetables were fresh and good. The wild rice blend was very flavorful. My only concern was the food took about 30 mins! Our waitress was nice though.

Looks a bit unassuming from the outside, but the inside has a great atmosphere, and everything we got was incredible. I highly recommend the Forest Mushroom Crostini and the Atlantic Salmon. We tried several cocktails, which were all delicious. The service was also excellent. We definitely plan to visit again next time we're in the area!

Fort William Historical Park, established in 1973, is a faithful reconstruction of a 19th-century fur trading post and transportation hub. The living-history museum features 42 period buildings where costumed guides demonstrate tasks like blacksmithing, fur processing, canoe building, and carpentry. Additionally, visitors can explore a reconstructed Ojibwa village and farmstead to experience life as it was in the past.
We went for the private guided tour as we were 2 days earlier before the Park is fully open to the public. We were a little bumped but the amazing tour guide George was super passionate and informative, he explained the history to us part by part and patiently answered all our questions enthusiastically. Super recommended! It's definitely the best guided tour and a tremendous experience I ever had and thanks for giving us such great memories full of historical information.

Our experience at Fort William was truly exceptional. From the moment I reached out to ask if our family could enjoy a private tour—similar to those offered to school groups, complete with musket and cannon demonstrations and canoeing—they went above and beyond to accommodate us. From the warm welcome at check-in to the moment we drove out of the parking lot, every part of our visit was unforgettable. We not only had a fantastic time, but we also learned so much along the way. The entire staff was knowledgeable, engaging, and incredibly helpful. It was, without a doubt, one of the most memorable experiences of our trip to Canada. A heartfelt thank you to the Fort William team for making our visit so special!

Noah was our amazing tour guide & was beyond excellent. He did great in character as Jean Baptiste (?) and did a really great job on the questions and answers. We visited several of the buildings and then did self-guide through any of the other buildings that were open including the garden and animal area. Both children and adults would love this tour. There were two French tours and several English (see photo). They also have a campground that is a pretty open area with cell service & no mosquitoes.

What a wonderful experience and learning opportunity. We took the walking tour and everybody kept in character. The characters were all very well spoken. And it is a wonderful way to learn about canada's past. This is a family event with fun for all from petting the farm animals to seeing how people lived back then.

A very unique experience. We got to see cannon fire and old gun fire. There were also people acting the part as if old hunters and gatherers just came from collecting animal hides. It is very historically informative and a very cool spot to spend a few hours in. Honestly a must visit.

Hiking area
Mount McKay Scenic Lookout, located on the Fort William First Nation, offers a breathtaking view of Lake Superior and the City of Thunder Bay. Accessible by a 5km hiking trail or by driving up for a small fee, this lookout provides stunning sunset views and is a must-visit in the area. Visitors can also attend a local Powwow or explore the peak for an adventurous experience.
Mount McKay is definitely a must see Thunder Bay attraction!!! Sadly, the wooden boardwalk has been removed and was replaced with metal fencing.... There is no comparison... The boardwalk allowed for an unobstructed view of Thunder Bay. The metal fencing gives a sort of prison-like feeling to it. I really do hope that it is a temporary fix!!!

We came on a cloudy day and couldn’t even see the mountain but waited an hour and it cleared up to a beautiful view of both the mountain and the city below. Worth the $10 per car admission fee. Would wait till a sunny day to do it again.

Great. Be prepared for a challenging but rewarding hike. Bring lots of water and wear good shoes. If you have small kids, be very cautious as the trail will present unprotected cliff drops as well as slippery surfaces.

I really enjoyed my visit to Mount McKay Scenic Lookout. The views were wonderful from the top of the mountain. The short hike (20 minutes?) was somewhat steep but well worth it. The very nice woman collecting the tolls at the gate told me about the hike - thank you!

The lookout on Mt. McKay is accessed through the Fort William First Nation's. There is a small fee to drive your vehicle to the lookout at the gate. You can choose to attend a local Powwow or make an excursion to the peak if your healthy and adventurous. The view overlooks Lake Superior and the City of Thunder Bay and offers some exquisite sunset views on the right day. It is a must stop when visiting this North Western area. 👍 👍
Joseph C — Google review
You have to pay to enter the Park. You can drive up to a lower overlook, but to get to the top you need to hike up the trail. Its short trail but get ready for a very steep one. Once you get to the top, follow the random small trails past the first couple towers and eventually it'll lead you to the right cliff side for breath taking views and a tremendous wind coming up the mountain.

My favorite place to go with my partner. We love to see so much nature teaming with life, especially right in the city. You really can easily forget that you are in town. We have a blast watching the birds around the ponds, having a picnic, or playing pokemon go. Its one of the few places where I am able to walk and pace myself with my disability, as there are plenty of benches that are never too far apart. It is a beautiful place, and you can even arrange to have events like birthdays or weddings there as well. Will always be special to us.

I fell in love with this park and was very glad I came for a visit on my way through the city! The monuments were all a neat sight to see. I wish the little castle wasn't fenced in but I understand why it would be. The next time I find myself in Thunder Bay I'll be sure to stop in for another wonderful walk around the park. The one porta potty they had available in the park was a little questionable. I decided not to go inside as it smelled awful just walking near it... I didn't want to know how it looked on the inside.

Absolutely beautiful park; very well kept with a nice sense of community locally and internationally. Usually pretty quiet unless a football game or community event is present, however the park doesn't lose its serenity throughout. A nice area in the city and home to small wildlife such as mallards, geese, seagulls, etc. Highly recommend, especially in the early mornings.

Pretty awesome. Really nice variety of huge tropical plants and there is a central water feature. I guess it is closed until about February 2025 for renovations. Exciting, but disappointing because it was a cool, free/donate what you can winter activity.

I really like this place, only visited twice and definitely want to come back here when it's all done up fancy like the plan I have in the pictures. Lots of different plants and flowers, they were all so pretty and cool. I loved all the tiny decor, like the mini fairy garden. I found the little name plates were nice and useful, but wish they were all on all the plants, cause some plants were not identifiability. Loved how some of the trees had fruits there, so you could see them growing. It's to bad the green house area was closed, but nice you could look in still to see all the succulents. I highly recommend you visited with family and friends.
Mathilde L — Google review
Absolutely love this place! It may seem small, but there's a huge variety of unique and interesting plants to see. The cactus gardens were closed to the public during my visit in January 2020 due to a structural issue with the glass ceiling, but the view from the entryway is certainly worth checking out.

It is a beautiful little place. Coming from a tropical country, it was just fun to see a lot of familiar plants and trees inside. It is free but you could leave a donation in a donation box right in the entrance. The tropical plants are nothing new to us but the different cactus that they have are very new for us but that side was close and we didn’t get the chance to see them up close.

I was surprised on how beautiful it was. Definitely recommend it. To even go sit and have a good meditation. Cactus area was close but you could see from far. There's parking for bikes and scooters. And the entrance it's free!

Over a decade visiting Thunder Bay, I’ve never been to the conservatory. Definitely, a hidden treasure for people to seek out and visit. Very nice place to escape the cold of winter. Need to try to see it when its fully blooming. Just missed the release of the ladybugs.

The Thunder Bay Community Auditorium is a prominent performing arts center in the city, known for hosting national events and performances by the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. The building itself is a significant feature of the city's skyline, with a striking 210-foot peaked roof constructed from 900 tons of steel. Visitors can take free tours on select days or by appointment to admire its architectural marvels.
Nice auditorium and theater venue. The Gal at the front desk is a sweet heart and all the staff are welcoming. Nice architecture for this facility. Many acts have played here...Alice Cooper, Ron White, Collective Soul, Monty Python just to name a few!

A beautiful auditorium. They have wonderful events here. But my favourite is that they host the graduation ceremonies from different schools across town.

Great acoustics, wide variety of performances and not a bad seat in the house. The Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra calls the TBCA home for its Masterworks series, and the sound is perfection. I would give the TBCA 5* but since moving to the ticket master platform, prices have gone up exponentially. This has resulted in lower ticket sales, or so it seems, for many shows, which is most unfortunate. The photos are from The 80s Club performers, Men Without Hats.

My visit to the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium for a convocation event was wonderful. The hall was beautiful and impeccably clean, which added to the overall experience. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the event was well-organized. It was a great experience.

I recently attended a well received live concert of country singer Johnny Reid. It was an amazing experience. The acoustics were out of this world. From my particular vantage point from a 3rd level center balcony seat, I could view the concert in its entirety virtually without interruption. An excellent venue to have a little bit in of Hollywood in the chilly North, here in Thunder Bay, ON.

The auditorium was great but one of the security guards, an older white gentleman. Was very rude, not only rude but racist towards me and my relatives. We were attending a graduation, and he kicked us out! for being in the walkway (which is understandable) but he kicked the only Indigenous people meanwhile there was an older WHITE lady standing right beside us, but once we were standing in the lobby area, he raised his voice and he went to the workers and pointed at us to “keep an eye out” then he randomly pointed at my cousin, said something under his breath and sped off. By his behaviour and the tone he used he was pissed for no absolute reason, but once I tried to question why he kicked us out he got very upset, raised his voice and walked away.

Canada Games Complex

Sports complex
The Canada Games Complex in Thunder Bay has a rich history, having been built for the 1981 Canada Summer Games. It now serves as a popular recreational spot, attracting over 450,000 visitors annually. The facility hosts events like "Conquer the Tower," which raised significant funds for charity. While some miss the old hot tub and sauna areas, many appreciate the upgrades made to the complex.
Been going here since I was a kid, I love the complex I wish they'd have kept the old hot tub/ sauna areas as well so capacity wasn't always at max but it is great. Alot of decent upgrades to the facility, would like to see expanded hot tub for sure.
JD H — Google review
We go to the complex fairly often. The pool is large, and they have toys for the children to enjoy although they could stand to have more toys. The pool is probably the dirtiest one in the city. The hot tub is always over capacity, closed, or lukewarm temperature. The hot tub area was better when it was located in each change room. Today we used the family change area because we bring our toddler. As usual, the bathroom smelled like it had not been cleaned all year. It was putrid and always is. Cleaning staff should be going in there regularly to wipe down the toilet and floors and it is evident that they do not. The shower areas are full of hair and dated. And at least one of the family showers the showerhead did not rest on its holder. The shower decks are always dirty. We used the little kid pool today and the area between the pool and the wall was full of debris, sand, and other dirt. The showers are just as bad. During our last visit to the complex, the little kid pool was full of sand in the corners. This pool is exceptionally busy and requires far more cleaning than what is provided. Each time we go we are disappointed with the cleanliness

Gym is outdated & some of the machines were broken but still working (safety hazard). Their water from the water fountains taste like chemicals, it’s very yucky. Pool & change rooms are great, we love bringing our kids under 4 to the kiddie pool, change rooms are big. Yes they get dirty, when im there I don’t notice anything over the top.
Tristin K — Google review
Awesome clean pool with various cool stuff. However, there were many people completely naked in front of my 10 year old brother in the changing room which was extremely inconvenient and uncomfortable. I hope there'll be a rigid rule addressing this issue in the future as i believe it can cause traumatic harm!
Elena A — Google review
I like the setup, but it's too expensive. They should have it so that people don't have to pay one lump sum for ALL services. I never go swimming, use the saunas, hot tubs or any amenity EXCEPT for the weight pits.
Raymond B — Google review
First time i went there. I went to changing room and it was so dirty. I been to other pools many times so I know the difference. I just went back after entering to change rooms.😅 It smells bed. Literally 0 rating in cleaning.
Krupal P — Google review
It’s kinda what you’d expect a public pool to be. Very clean any time I go, only gripe is often times the baby pool is closed and I never know until I’ve paid and changed, and our little one doesn’t really like the cooler water yet.

Gino's Pizza offers a range of unique pies, from their signature deep-pan to thin crust and vegan options. Each pizza is made with homemade dough and sauce. Their vegetable pizza is highly recommended, allowing customers to choose toppings such as sundried tomatoes, spinach, red onion, mushroom, and extra cheese. It consistently satisfies customers and provides a take-out option for convenience. Gino's Pizza is widely regarded as the top pizza place in Thunder Bay.
Wanted to know if they had single slices available but kept getting their stupid call centre. Spent 20 mins on the phone trying to call store directly so was a little upset. Drove to the store and Gass was very helpful when he seen how annoyed I was. I asked if he can call the Cumberland store to see if they had single slices since I didn’t want to wait 25 mins for a pizza. He told me he would have a pizza ready for me in 7 mins. And gave me his personal number so I can call and ask in the future. Great customer service compared to the old troll owner.

Wrong toppings. Missing toppings. Undercooked. Cold. We used to order from this location often. Never had a problem. New owners and it’s like night and day. Not good. The order was late but the driver was apologetic. Looking for a new pizza place for sure.
Jennifer S — Google review
Update March 2025 Ownership must have changed. I know the owners had it for sale for a few years. The dough was very thick and undercooked ... very gooey and it just seemed like a different recipe. The ground beef they are using comes from an extruder and looks like little worms. It's not the regular ground beef that has always been used for as long as we have been buying pizza here. It just didn't taste the same at all. They were both bland. We didn't wait for delivery. We usually go pick it up so we can have it as hot as possible. It was very freshly made, but completely under cooked and pale. We almost always order 2 large pizzas. One with pepperoni and ground beef, the other with pepperoni, ham, and bacon. We really liked the old Gino's. It's so sad to have to look for a different pizza place. I have to drop the 5 stars to only 1 unfortunately and I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PIZZA ANYMORE!!! In the pics, I took side shots so you can see the wet dough. June 2018 Love the pizza. My daughter, her son, and my other daughter's husband have worked at the balmoral street Gino's in the past and got along great with the owners. They were always treated with respect. Have never had a problem with them or their food. They also have gluten-free pizza dough, which was awesome for my son (he's gluten intolerant). Recommended to all my friends.
Arlene L — Google review
First off, the new call center is atrocious. I drove to the store to order my pizza, as to avoid using the call center. When I got home, the pizza was half cooked, the chicken topping wasn't even warm. I had to finish cooking the pizza at home. I would have called an complained, but that would require calling the call center. Absolute garbage pizza. Was way better before the new owners took over. Do not eat here.

Used to get a Pizza at least once a month or more. New owners are rude.. pizza is poor quality. Is really too bad was my favorite place in the neighborhood for years.. most of staff knew me by name. The new owners and staff are not friendly at all. Sad to see my favorite pizza place in town go down hill so much.

We always order vegetable pizza with our own choice of toppings (sundried tomatoes, spinach, red onion, mushroom, and extra cheese) must try! It was been always meeting our satisfaction. Take out! It is the best pizza place in Thunder Bay. 😉

Website cut off delivery instructions. Nothing wrong with store, can't get through to the 800 number so the driver knows where to go. 2 seconds in it hangs up on me. Repeatedly. Only thing I don't like about Gino's is that you can't actually call the store directly.

Hamburger restaurant
A popular fast-food chain called A&W Canada offers its signature root beer along with a variety of burgers, chicken, and fries. It is widely known for its high-quality food and excellent service. However, some customers have complained about the limited availability of breakfast items after a specific time. Nevertheless, their sausage and egg sandwich with coffee is said to be much better than what McDonald's offers.
Super happy they started staying open all night as there aren't a lot of options for us overnight owls these last few years. Staff is always pretty friendly too. Had Noel serve me tonight and he was quick and friendly.

I love my A&W bacon egger, but this is the worst one ever. Egg was flatten and over cooked. Bun was dry and stale. The hashbrown was almost raw! The server served me for dine in when i said to go! At least the coffee is decent. I wondered was there was only 2 cars in the parking lot at breakfast time! Now i know!

This is a great place to get good fast food, quickly. I have been at this location twice, and I have ordered a few times at each visit. I found that large orders are filled very quickly; by the time that we chose our seats, our food was either ready, or not far from being ready. The attendants are always very pleasant, patient, and helpful. They look to go that extra-mile to help you when they can. They make sure that you are happy and even bring your food to you if they have time to do that. This restaurant has a very warm and friendly atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed my visits to this particular restaurant, and I look forward to future opportunities to eat there. I will eagerly recommend this location to my family and friends. It is hard to think of a better compliment. My only criticism is that the stall in the men's washroom needs a new door that will stay closed without needing to be locked so that people can more easily move within this rather small washroom. In addition, touchless faucets would be an appreciated upgrade.
Dominador B — Google review
Staff was rude when I wouldn't accept a handful of quarters instead of loonies. I said there's a til open over there. Then he threw the loonies onto the counter omitting the rest of the change owed. In today's economy every penny counts. The fries were cold and burgers were not put together nicely needing me to do it for myself and my guest. The one positive thing I noted was the restaurant was clean and organized.
Maria L — Google review
A&W Memorial Ave Thunder Bay is the best restaurant in their chain. Super clean, great breakfast, absolutely incredible service from “Junaid” at the counter. Manager at this store is fantastic. I’ve been to mamy A&W but this one is the best one BY FAR! Staff have changed. I got pancakes floating in 4 oz of melted butter and staff argued with me that I just had to accept. Terrible customer service skills, aggressive, argumentative and not a good fit for the service industry. I will not return.
CasinoJim — Google review
I was told by one staff member that I could combine two partially stamped cards to get a free coffee. When I went to redeem it, instead of receiving the free coffee, I just received another stamp. Not the biggest deal, but when I asked about it, I got brushed off like I was trying to scam them for a free yacht instead of a coffee. The dismissive attitude from the staff left a bad impression - Consistency and a bit of common courtesy go a long way.

Nestled in the heart of Thunder Bay, Niva's Restaurant is a beloved family-run establishment that pays homage to the region's Finnish heritage. Known for its delectable Finn pancakes, which rival any in town, this eatery also serves up comforting dishes like mojakkaan fish soup and classic diner fare such as burgers and hearty breakfasts. The restaurant has become a local favorite not just for its diverse menu but also for its warm, welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of home-cooked meals.
This place was awesome. Had just flown in and went here for breakfast. Waiting was non existent. Seated immediately, service was so fast, so many coffee top ups, and as soon as we finished eating somebody cleared our plates within seconds. We were in and out in under 30 min. Clean location and friendly staff.

It was a good experience to dine in at Nivas. The atmosphere was very nice and the food was great too. The service by the servers was notable; felt so homely. The line ups for dine in was really big even though we got in before the rush time.
Subin S — Google review
I’ve been to Thunder Bay four times now. Ate at Niva’s the first time and really enjoyed it. The food was great and the place had this cozy, charming vibe. But ever since then? No luck. Every other time we’ve tried to go back, they’ve been closed. That’s three trips in a row now. What’s extra frustrating is that Google will say they’re open, so we get our hopes up, make the drive, and then show up to an empty parking lot and a “sorry, we’re closed” sign. They’re also almost always closed on long weekends, which just makes it harder for people visiting from out of town. I get that things happen and sometimes you need to close up, but it takes two seconds to update your hours online. It’s a small thing that makes a big difference... especially for people who aren’t local. As much as I liked the food the first time, the inconsistency just makes it not worth the effort anymore.

Go were the locals go, go to Niva's.A very busy breakfast and lunch spot. At 11:00 am on a Friday expect a line up to get in. Quality at a good price. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Local and casual.

We came on a Sunday morning, they're very busy but you know that's always a good sign. We didn't have to wait to long to be seated as there wasn't any available tables when we got there. Our waitress was very friendly and courteous and it just plain felt like you were talking to a family member. I ordered one of the specials, back bacon with 2 eggs, toast and home fries. My dad ordered a clubhouse sandwich with fries and gravy. Both were absolutely phenomenal and really hit the spot. If you're looking for a good ma & pa home cooked breakfast then look no further than Niva's!! You don't be disappointed I can assure you of this. If you are you then have no taste buds in my humble opinion.

-Really good restaurant! -Great service and staff! -Easy online reservations! Had the margarita pizza, and the fig and pear pizza. They were both really good! Also has the peanut butter cheesecake for dessert and would recommend that also!

Went to Caribou for the first time. Drinks/Food were good. The mule was great. We didn’t care for the zucchini fritti that went with the lamb meatballs and thought it would be better without the breading. Tostadas excellent. I’m not really a pork chop type person, but I did enjoy it. It was very soft and the flavours were great. The Korean steak was a feature item and it was good but we didn’t care for the rice much. The dessert was amazing. Service was really good. Our server was attentive and efficient. The atmosphere was OK. It was a little dark and a lot of voice noise. It could use an update. Drinks: Negroni and Mule App: lamb meatballs and tostadas Main: blackened pork chop and Korean fried steak Dessert: Coffee and Creme Framboise

This is a must-visit restaurant when you are in Thunder Bay! Ever since we discovered it we make it a point to go whenever we are in the area. The service is outstanding, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. The food and beverages themselves are excellent with a nice variety. We have ordered different items including their salads, their fried seafood, their pastas and pizzas, and their pork chop entree. All were delicious, with the most recent visit in 2024 being for a graduation dinner. All of the items come highly recommended and I urge anyone reading this to check the menu for seasonal specials. The order from the graduation dinner was: Sleeping Giant Brewery Beer, their caesar salad, their seasonal shrimp special item, the rabbit mafalde pasta, the seafood pasta, and the raspberry creme brulee. I would rate this more than 5 stars if I could and I will be back!

Good overall experience at Caribou, however the food was a bit underwhelming. My coworkers and I were travelling from out of town when we decided to dine at Caribou for dinner. Our server was excellent and the atmosphere was great but unfortunately the linguine was overcooked and mushy. I do highly recommend the crab dip and misto fritti as starters. Overall good restaurant that we would try again.

One thing I heard you should try in Thunder Bay is the Fig & Pear pizza at Caribou. So, when I visited in June I made sure to stop and get a carryout. It was ok. I wouldn't get it again. Definitely would try something else. It's a very nice restaurant. Friendly staff. But I've had better pizzas with that same flavor profile elsewhere. Though it is a good crust.

Enjoying our coffee right now from one of the places she suggested. Overall a great hidden gem and definitely recommend stopping there!

I love the Italian waitress, she was very attentive in providing service and options for salad dressings, meanwhile she has a big personality and just like an old friend . please give her a raise she definitely deserves !The food here is highly recommended. Prime rib💯We love the bun the are so warm and fluffy. Just look at those adorable juicy asparagus . Many restaurants prefer to grill them over an open flame until the surface becomes overly charred, causing it to lose moisture. lease just come to dine in, 这家prime rib比the keg好吃多了,keg狗吃了都摇头

The 5 star is based solely on the food. The service was great we barely waited for any of the courses. I had the bacon carbonera with chicken I also tried the rib eye and wow both were fantastic. I'm from London and wish we had this restaurant there. The soup beef barley amazing. The cesar salad was fresh and the bread so light and fluffy. I recently dined at Prospector Steak House in Thunder Bay and loved it. I started with a beef soup, followed by crispy calamari with tangy sauces. My main course was a medium cooked steak topped with shrimp, served with fresh asparagus. For dessert, I enjoyed a warm, crumbly treat with creamy ice cream and caramel. Every dish was delicious, and the experience was fantastic. Highly recommended!

The Prospector was a place that my family went for celebrations: delicious steaks and the soup and salad bar! I decided to introduce my husband to it on our anniversary, but we were very disappointed. The calamari in the appetizer was tiny and 33% of the dish was actually red pepper, breaded and disguised as calamari. The breading tasted strongly of dill and sort of raw or dough-like. I ordered the sirloin: blue. My husband ordered the ribeye: rare. His steak came correctly cooked, but the meat was sinewy. My steak came grossly overcooked: medium rare to medium. It was tough, tasteless (except for the exceptionally salty mushroom sauce on top). I saved it for my dog ☹️😂. We had a phenomenal waitress who recognised that we were unhappy with the calamari and didn’t charge us for it. She brought us extra soup and buns when we asked. But we did have to ask. The chowder was delicious, though! As were their classic fresh buns and garlic butter. I’m saddened that my last memory of the Prospector will be a poor one.

Another wonderful meal at a long standing ‘go to’ in Thunder Bay. Although it’s a steak house, you can feel very safe with the curveballs on the menu. The butter chicken and coconut curry were delicious. The garlic mashed potatoes are my entire family’s favorite side. We had excellent service tonight from our waiter/bartender Cory. Very attentive and had excellent suggestions. Bathrooms were clean. Parking in this area can be difficult but we found great parking close by today.

Thai restaurant
Located on Cumberland Street South in Thunder Bay, Thai Kitchen Restaurant is a popular spot known for its traditional Thai dishes and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant has been serving the community for over a decade and offers a diverse menu featuring classic Thai fare such as mango salads, hot & sour soups, stir-fries, noodles, and various types of curries. Customers can expect to enjoy favorites like spring rolls, pad Thai, and house-made red curry.
Tried Thai Kitchen recently, and honestly, it hit all the right notes. The food? Packed with flavour, cooked to perfection, and served hot — exactly what you’d hope for when craving Thai. From the curries to the noodles, everything tasted fresh and made with care. The service was smooth and genuine. No forced smiles, just friendly people who clearly take pride in what they do. They checked in just enough to make sure we were good, without hovering. The space itself felt cozy and calm — not overly fancy, but really well put together. It’s the kind of place you settle into and immediately start planning your next visit before the meal’s even over. If you haven’t been, go. Thai Kitchen isn’t just good — it’s consistently great.

I rarely write a bad review, but I had a situation here that was…uncomfortable. I order Phanaeng at every Thai restaurant that I go. I make it at home. Die hard fan it’s probably my favorite food. I personally did not like this one at all. It just tasted off and the lime leaves were quite off putting. Even the beef, which was good itself, tasted weird because of it. I couldn’t put my finger on what it was, it just wasn’t right and I was having a hard time eating it. A woman at the table next to me prompted me to let the server know, so I got up the courage to do so. I didn’t know exactly what to ask for, because they didn’t necessarily do anything wrong. I just asked for them to take it. The server brought the manager who questioned me, and it was very uncomfortable. I was still hungry, but decided not to order anything because it just seemed so awkward. The woman at the other table spoke for me and said how in the past the food was refunded for her. Owner explained how they can’t do that since I’ve already eaten it. Cool. Understood. Told them I was just going to eat my rice. A minute later the manager comes back…and I kid you not…mid bite…takes the food from me. She said she was taking it off my bill and therefore I cannot eat anymore. Understood. Thanks. The woman at the other table spoke up for me again and said that’s crazy, and then what could be described as a verbal cat fight ensued. Regardless of how I acted or how the woman next to me behaved, the manager was very rude, demeaning, and in-your-face: The entire situation was extremely uncomfortable. And again…the food was not good. I was very excited for it and was disappointed. I would not recommend this place. The way the owner managed the situation spoke volumes.

Best Thai food I've ever had. Highly enjoyed the Chinese mushroom dish and first fried rice dish on the menu. Fast service, beautiful dining room, clean restrooms, delicious food that met the desired spiciness (which is rare for us!). The garlic chili sauce is amazing. Spring rolls were fantastic as well - large in size!

Well I'm glad that I got some noodles with that mountain of peanuts! I regretted mixing them all in, it really did feel like eating peanuts by the spoon. And most of them weren't even crushed! There was also peanut sauce on the side, in case you feel like the dish could use more peanut flavor. Speaking of flavor, the tomato/tamarind sauce was extremely sweet! Honestly it's sweeter than most desserts. Tofu was ok and the shrimp was actually quite generous in size. I think the shrimp was my favorite part, without that the dish wouldn't be palatable.

I had the pleasure of being served by a very professional and attentive staff member. He thoughtfully provided an extra bowl when the food portions were generous, which was greatly appreciated. It was also a pleasant surprise to learn that he is Vietnamese—meeting a fellow countryman made the experience even more special.

I ordered two spring rolls, the Sen Pad Ped (medium heat) and a Singha beer. The spring rolls are huge and fresh out of the fryer! I've never had Sen Pad Ped, but it sure was tasty. Just the perfect amount of heat and fish sauce I would say. Perhaps a touch on the salty side, but nothing remotely worth complaining about. The Singha beer compliments the heat (thermally and spiciness). 9/10 would recommend!

Tried this restaurant while passing through. Location is convenient and we were able to walk to the restaurant easily from the hotel. Ordered spring rolls and chicken pad thai. The spring rolls are huge and tasty. Pad thai lacked spice, very mild. Server didn’t ask us how spicy we wanted the dish like other Thai restaurants we’ve been to. I would recommend this place.

Absolutely delicious! Went to celebrate my niece's 19th and this was her choice. I had never been. The appetizers were amazing! The spring rolls were huge! The main courses were enough for dinner and leftovers for the next few days. We could have bought a few mains and everyone share. The homemade Pad Thai noodles were delicate and so good! Not one complaint from our large group. Put this place on your must eats in Thunder Bay, steps away from Thunder Bay marina with beautiful views of Lake Superior and the Sleeping Giant.

Restaurant
Tomlin Restaurant, located on Red River Rd., is a cozy spot offering carefully sourced, seasonal share plates and craft cocktails. The restaurant focuses on farm-to-table cuisine, partnering with local producers to create fresh and eclectic dishes that blend Italian and Southern flavors. The menu features a variety of dishes showcasing the best of local Ontario ingredients. With an approachable yet unique menu designed for sharing, Tomlin offers a small but carefully chosen selection that changes regularly.
Tomlin is easily one of the best dining experiences in Thunder Bay. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance is warm and inviting, setting the perfect stage for an excellent meal. Their menu changes weekly, which keeps things fresh and exciting. The food was outstanding—each dish was prepared with great attention to detail, and the flavors were well-balanced. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in using quality ingredients and creative techniques. The service was just as impressive—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly, adding to the overall experience. I’m already looking forward to my next visit, especially to try their tasting menu. If you’re in Thunder Bay and looking for a great place to eat, Tomlin should definitely be at the top of your list!

One of the best dining experiences we’ve had! We chose the family style experience —absolutely worth every cent. The portions were generous, and every dish was packed with incredible flavour. Our waiter was kind, attentive, and genuinely lovely. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Thank you so much for having us!

Best spot in Thunder Bay! The food quality is amazing. The atmosphere is great. You’ll feel like you are eating at a nice restaurant in Toronto, for a fraction of the price. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive, and I have never been disappointed with a meal there. I would absolutely recommend Tomlin to anyone visiting Thunder Bay. Quick tip: They don’t take reservations for parties 5 or less, and they get fairly busy. If there is a wait, I usually leave my number and pop over to barkeep, the cocktail bar around the corner, for a tasty drink while I wait for my table.

First time in Thunder Bay and Tomlin is mentioned as a must go. They are walk in only. We put our names down at 8:30 and seated 8:50pm. 20 min wait on a Tuesday! It gets busy. We ordered: Pork ribs - delicious crunchy and tender fall off the bone goodness. Came with some pickled cucumbers which was a nice balance. Charred Broccolini - Broccolini was a tad too boiled and sweet, but overall love the flavor profile. It had a light sweet gingery flavor and paired with yh charred Broccolini was soo good. Also I appreciated that all the stalks were of even cut. Fried Oyster Mushrooms - Nothing too stand out but good. Lumache Pasta - the pasta itself is handmade and sooo incredibly good. It's not too eggy and it has a beautiful and satisfying bite with a bit of bounce. The vodka sauce I found was a bit too sour. It needed a bit more cheese to balance the acidity out personally. Sleepyhead cocktail - Yummy. Not typically a drinker but this was good. It was chamomile and honey forward with white wine. Overall, I would recommend! The service was very friendly. The food came extremely fast which was great because we were starved. Prices were very reasonable especially coming from Toronto. If youre in the area, don't hesitate to give it a shot!

Came to visit a friend in Tbay, she brought me here because she knows im a big foodie and the fares here are supposedly the best if not top tier in the Tbay food scene. First I'd like to say the rest rooms are kept clean, the waiter that served us (forget his name 🤦🏻) did an excellent job, superb service. The main dining room had very nice decor, rustic style look. Now the food, we did the Large Family Style Tasting. My favorite appetizers on 1st round were the yellow bean tempura and the chicharrón sweet potatoes. Loved the flavors in the sweet potato dish. 2nd the gnocchi pasta made fresh melted in mouth and paired well with the tomatoe sauce. 3rd entrees, shrimp was a delight, loved the potatoes with the crispy edges and soft flavorful jammy centers. My only issue is the steak. I believe it was a 45 day aged striploin a leaner cut that is paired with what I believe was like a indian curry butter sauce. However, the sauce imo is too acidic maybe a touch more butter or cream would have made it pair better with the leaner cut steak. But this is just my opinion lol. 😅. Desserts, stawberry short cake is my fav. The panacotta would be nice with less compote and more panacotta. Chocolate tart, if you're a chocolate lover thats for you (a lil tooo chocolaty for me). Overall, i was very impressed. Hats off to the staff in the kitchen. I would definitely come back to try their regular menu.

As always, 10/10 food. Tried a couple different cocktails and had the Mafalde which were delicious. For dessert we shared the Pandan cake which was something new for all of us. Was probably the loudest I've ever seen in there unfortunately, which made it honestly hard to even talk across the table.

Coffee shop

St Paul Roastery is a beloved coffee shop managed by owners Cam Reid and Stefan Pakylak. The shop features an onsite roastery and a charming cafe, reflecting the duo's journey from home roasters using popcorn poppers to professional coffee entrepreneurs. Their passion for the science of roasting coffee led them to establish the roastery and cafe, where they cater to increasing requests for their quality coffee.
This place is a true gem for coffee lovers in Thunder Bay. I tried their Peru pour over today, and it was very fresh and delicious. I will definitely return to try their different beans. The employees were very friendly too. I just wish there were more seats :)

Cozy spot, smooth latte, and calm wood tones — everything felt warm and inviting. Loved the peaceful corner by the window, perfect for a quiet sip and some soft daydreams.

One of the best coffee shops I’ve ever been. But unfortunately they don’t have lactose free milk, but they have alternative milk
Raisa R — Google review
Great vibe and atmosphere, welcoming staff. Open early and centrally located in Port Arthur. I've tried a few different roasts and ventured into espresso territory, but the coffee is barely drinkable. Often bitter, the roasts are naively processed and lack complexity. I hope the Roastery will continue to hone its skills and develop better tasting coffee.
Ruddegur K — Google review
Had a great pour-over, clean and well-made, though a bit light for my taste. The shop was pretty crowded, making it hard to hang out, and the attached bakery was already sold out by noon. Still, worth a visit if you're nearby and want quality coffee.

I came here on a Sunday and found that ot was closed, today I was interested to check for working hours and seems like this coffee shop has no regular hours at all( closes at 3 p.m.) . For someone living in a not much lively town such as Thunder Bay, I was hoping to enjoy my weekends or after work time in a cozy place such as yours but I was truly dissappointed.
Bita N — Google review
Very nice building. Efficient staff. Good foam. Nice art in my drink. Something was up with the espresso shot in my cappuccino though. It was fairly sour. Perhaps a little more time dialling in would be helpful.

The Silver Birch Restaurant in Thunder Bay offers a unique dining experience with its regional Canadian cuisine featuring seafood and game, complemented by optional wine and beer pairings. Owned and operated by chef Darlene Green, the restaurant reflects her love for Northern Ontario through its menu and ambiance. The establishment prides itself on using locally sourced, fresh ingredients, such as pickerel, northern pike, wild game like rabbit, and more.
I was in Thunder Bay to do some fishing. Since I live in Miami I want to something a little different. I use Google Map to look up some restaurants in the area and found this interesting place with good ratings. I must say the reviewers were not wrong. Being the first customer there the place was empty but filling up. I ordered a pickerel cake and a northern paella. Both dishes came out very fast I was quite tasty. The service was excellent and the place was nice and clean. The average main dish was 25 Canadian Dallas. They had rabbit, duck ,Pike and other game on the menu. it was quite a unique experience and I would definitely recommend this place.

Great little restaurant in downtown Port Arthur. Menu is based around locally sourced, fresh foods. Pickerel and Northern Pike are included on the menu, as well as other wild game. My personal favorite is the Tarragon Rabbit.

What an excellent restaurant! We've never had a bad meal whenever we've come here. The menu is truly representative of the north. Prix Fixe menus Tues to Thurs. Occasional special menus (recent 5 course tasting menu was awesome). Food is always perfectly prepared. Service is always excellent. Darlene and her staff always do such an amazing job! Wonderful fine dining AND you can carry on a conversation without screaming at each other!

This place is a little gem! If you like game - rabbit, venison etc this is the place for you. I have enjoyed every meal here and have always received amazing service as well. They make a great Cesar with an awkward little piece of bacon wrapped around a stick - its pretty and tasty at the same time. There is a private room that can host larger parties and maybe 10 or so other tables- 2 tops and 4 tops. I recommend making a reservation as I have never seen this place quiet on a weekend evening. The parking is not great - all metered street parking in a busy downtown core -

Went with a group of 8 for the first time last night and all had a great time. I had the pickeral appetizer and the elk pot pie and ate every bit. The service was indulgent and the room very comfortable. Look forward to coming back soon.

Best restaurant experience I have ever had. My husband and I went for our 30th anniversary. When I reserved our dinner I mentioned that and we received a comp dessert. The chef even came to our table and introduced herself. Delicious food, awesome service, fabulous chef. Highly highly recommend.

A dining gem and must in Thunder Bay. Northern/Canadian inspired food is served in this upscale restaurant in downtown Thunder Bay. My mother and I went because of the reviews and were incredibly impressed. Melt in your mouth locally sourced beef tenderloin, game meats and amazing new perspectives on Canadian and French classics. I recommend the beef tenderloin and the Nanaimo creme brûlée. Amazing service and an added perk - they'll cork your wine so you can take the bottle with you (if you haven't finished it).

Coco Bay Restaurant offers a vibrant culinary journey through the flavors of Asia. The restaurant provides options for dining in, delivery, or take-out. Visitors have praised the warm and friendly service, with staff members providing excellent recommendations and going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience. Dishes are not only well-presented but also bursting with flavor, leaving diners impressed with every bite. The cozy atmosphere is complemented by attentive service and generous portion sizes that showcase aromatic and flavorful Asian cuisine.
I was super hungry and looking for some Asian food around in thunder bay and this place popped up in my search. I’m so glad I went here, their veg spring rolls are huge and you get 2 for $10 which is so filling plus I got their dinner combo with beef and sweet and sour shrimp. I had to pack half of it to go as it was so filling. They do have great service and they have a patio which would also be a good spot to eat at weather depending.

Special Pho with rare beef and meat ball and tripe. Overall taste is good and I can finish all 😬. I like the services that standby to get order when we are ready. Me and my wife tried a few places of Vietnamese noodles. I can give No.3 for the taste after the Vietnamese noodles from Kingston and London, this is only reflected on our personal rating. Overall we loved so much. Coffee as well.
Min T — Google review
I was deeply disappointed with my recent order from this Chinese restaurant. The food was extremely dry, to the point of being completely inedible. The rice was hard and crusty, while the chicken bites had clearly been overcooked and left sitting under heat lamps for too long. Even the vegetables were withered and tough. Despite the attractive presentation, nothing on my plate was enjoyable to eat. Disappointing and dried out with cracking wrappers. I tried adding sauce to salvage the meal, but it couldn't mask the fundamental issue of severely overcooked food. The prices charged for such poor quality are simply unacceptable. I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone seeking authentic Chinese cuisine. When I called them they were extremely rude and would not rectify the situation. What she said on the phone was "if you already ate half the food there is nothing they can do," but we only had 2 or 3 bites and they then said after we sent pictures to them "you had more than 2 bites, there is nothing we can do." As they were so rude to my wife, I am making this review to show people how they treat their customers.

Food was so delicious and a very large portion. I wish I got the servers name because she was so nice, welcoming and helpful. If I ever find myself back in Thunder Bay I will 100% be returning. Also giving bonus points Chili oil on every table.

We ordered bún bò and phở. The wait was a bit long, probably because it was the weekend and the place was small but packed with people.

Fantastic food! Family of three hit it up on a whim. The food was amazing and our server was lovely. Great portion sizes and local beer selection. Tiramisu was delicious. Would recommend. 100/10 experience.

It was great food! A bit pricey but great portions. It was extremely hot and humid- uncomfortably so. They could use a few fans but I will definitely go back

Nice outside and warming interior, good number of choices on the menu. Traveling through Thunder Bay just happened to try Coco Bay but would return. The food was really flavourful and filling, got the ramen and would go back for it, highly recommend. The service was friendly and easy to talk to. (also tried the pork pad Thai and would also recommend) They also serve a selection of craft beer
