Freeport in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Freeport, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Freeport, Maine is best known as the home of L.L.Bean’s flagship store, open 24 hours and anchoring a compact, walkable outlet shopping district. The town sits on Casco Bay, offering easy access to coastal scenery, boating, and nearby Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park with its forest and shoreline trails. Historic buildings house local restaurants, cafes, and inns, giving the village center a classic New England feel. Its location just off I-295 also makes Freeport a convenient base for day trips to Portland and other Midcoast destinations.
With favorites like Domino's Pizza, Freeport Outlets, and Freeport Village Station, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Ben & Jerry’s and Domino's Pizza so you can get the best taste of Freeport while you’re here. When you think of Freeport, Maine, L.L.Bean is likely the first name that pops into your mind. This iconic retailer specializes in outdoor gear, apparel, and footwear for all your sporting adventures, including hunting and fishing equipment. Open 24/7 throughout the year, it’s a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists alike. The flagship store features a giant 16-foot boot that serves as a perfect photo op!
LL Bean. Great area. Employees are super friendly. Plenty of parking. Depending on the day they have fun activity for the kids and adults. They still have a fair return policy. In the winter they have hot chocolate on hand. They are currently updating one of the stores to make it look better, but should have zero effect on your shopping experience. Plenty of nice bathrooms too.
Abner B — Google review
This was my first time visiting the area & I was told I HAD to go to L.L. Bean. I liked the vibe of this place. While it's a large selection spread among many buildings, it had a classy, classic feel to it. Not the same as if you'd go to another box store for the outdoors/camping/hunting/fishing. The staff was friendly an attentive, but not overly pressing. Everything was clean and had a tidy and respectful vibe to it. A local friend shared with us that she grew up in town right where their amphitheater is now. It was exactly where her house stood as a child and she was able to show us how things were laid out decades ago. It was neat to see. It took about an hour to go through all of the stores, but that was without looking at each section of every store. If you're a big shopper, you might want to plan an afternoon to go. The plus side is the restrooms are very clean.
Alyssa S — Google review
It was fun to visit and look around - the greeters/ambassadors were friendly and everywhere, and the couple photo-ops with boots were nice - but I wish there was more to do/see, like a museum or exhibit of old products (or did I miss it?). It was just a lot of people shopping at full price. I should’ve read up more what to expect and should’ve started at the L.L. Bean Outlet across the street.
Cedric C — Google review
Large shopping area with currently 3 large structures that make up the LL Bean Flagship stores with a smaller outlet store across the street. The tent is currently being used while the main store is under construction. There is a large selection of each item in all sizes available with so many colors to choose from. Various staff everywhere to assist with any question you might have. Multiple changing rooms to try on the items you select. Free parking for the entire shopping area is a 5 minute walk from LL Bean and right across the street.
Jamie W — Google review
We were recommended to visit here, I knew that it would be large, but we were very surprised when we arrived, and there were multiple buildings. We enjoyed walking around to the different buildings, and the staff were very friendly. A fun place to visit if you’re in the area. you can purchase something and then have it shipped to you as well.
Jeff — Google review
Currently remodeling so there's not much available in the main store. The temp store closes at 10p (2200) so if you're wanting the full LL Bean experience get there before they close. The prices are high for pretty much everything but it is LL Bean so that's to be expected. Friendly staff who are pretty down to earth. They seem to have rediscovered their roots, which is good to see.
Thhaze — Google review
The L.L.Bean flagship store is a great place to visit , huge selection of outdoor gear and apparel, and the space itself feels like part museum, part adventure center. Prices are mostly full retail, but the quality and service are top-notch. Parking is easy, and it’s surrounded by other great shops in downtown Freeport. Worth checking out at least once!
Roy C — Google review
All the employees were super welcoming from the moment we walked in the door. Everyone was making sure that we had everything we needed and we’re handing out apple cider. The employees even gave us maps and stickers. We had a great experience here.

Freeport Village Station is an outdoor shopping center with a charming village atmosphere and numerous outlet stores. It's a popular destination for shoppers, especially during winter when outdoor activities are limited. The L.L Bean complex is the focal point of most stores in Freeport, offering a wide range of shops, cafes, restaurants, and top brand outlets like LLBean, Under Armour, North Face, and Patagonia. Visitors can easily spend a full day exploring the main street lined with various shops.
Plenty of free parking and along with having a few nice stores it is central to a lot of shops along the main road. Enjoyed our time there. Wish there were real food options here but there are places very close that are good options. There is a seafood cart right out front but saw it too late.

We came up from Portland on a cloudy morning. Well worth the short drive. A nice selection of stores offering good quality products at good prices. There’s LLBean Under Armor North Face Patagonia to name a few. There’s also some restaurants It’s easy to get to and there’s plenty of parking.

Freeport is full of shops, café, restaurants and outlet stores from top brands. A full day can definitely be spent here. The main street is lined with shops. Watch out for pedestrian crossing the road the have the right of way and will walk right out in front of your car. There is plenty of parking of the main street some free some meters.

The flagship store for LL Bean is a highlight of this outdoor shopping destination. Bargain hunters will delight in the clearance deals offered by various brands like North Face, Patagonia, and Levi's.
Great antique shop has many different types of items. From currency and coins, a basement full of books and lots of lamps, furniture and fixtures of all kinds. Plan on at least two hours if you want to see everything. The staff is wonderful, and if you can’t find it, just ask for help. We had a great time going back in time.

Some great deals... Sometimes. A number not so good. The addition of the Freeport market is great - full of an excellent assortment of craft and art options. Interesting and beautiful from numerous vendors in a single space. Definitely check it out the next time you are in the area.
Jerry H — Google review
Just be aware that the Freeport outlets are a massive tourist trap. If you happen to go to them the week between the major fashion seasons, you can get really decent deals on clothing, but most of the time it's an absolute mess of people walking around the town just buying junk. If you like buying things, you will like it here. I might go maybe two or three times a year. Living here when we are passing through to hopefully get something decent. A lot of the time I come up empty-handed, but when you do have a good day there it is quite nice. Don't sleep on the consignment/ thrift shop nearer the end of the strip. I can't remember the name of it, but both my wife and I have had very good luck finding interesting clothing there. The giant LL Bean campus is also just sort of like one of those things that you can experience. I don't know how else to describe it other than something that would only exist in America. Like if you're the the person who likes to go on pilgrimages to strange landmarks of consumerism like that giant Bass pro shop pyramid, you will probably also like it here.
David B — Google review
LL Bean store! Scored some boots. Could have had slippers but trying to stay in budget. Nice walking area but hilly for anyone with health challenges. Clean streets with police presence. Excellent family spot.
Robert R — Google review
The Freeport Outlets have a nice selection of shops and some great deals, especially during seasonal sales. It’s easy to get around, and the downtown Freeport area adds charm to the shopping experience. That said, a few stores had limited stock and some prices weren’t much lower than retail. Still worth a visit if you’re in the area, especially for LL Bean and the walkable atmosphere.
Roy C — Google review
Nice outlet area mixed in with LL Bean’s flagship stores. With the hills it makes it a bit more challenging. It’s not setup like a traditional outlet. It’s in the middle of town so you have to cross back and forth the busy roads.
Gretchen P — Google review
Freeport is an easy place to get around. Things are a little chaotic as LL Bean is going through a major rehab / expansion. There are fewer stores these days, something that is probably more of a reflection of the economy than Freeport itself
David B — Google review
Many"outlets" to tempt the shopper; but dont have high expectations for good deals. Since the flagstaff LLBean was very busy and we were under time constraints, we chose to go to the Bean outlet. I was expecting markdowns of at least 40%. The racks were loaded with so so clothes and the common sale price was 20%. Other company outlets were better priced. The best part of the day was the family sandwich shops located up and down the street. We chose the longest line and it was well worth it. Delicious sandwiches and pizza and ice cream! Unfortunately I lost the name but has been in business over a hundred years! Would I visit again? Probably not.

Restaurant
Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro offers a modern twist on Italian cuisine, using locally sourced ingredients and serving in a cozy and rustic setting. The bistro provides both lunch and dinner menus, with outdoor seating available during warmer months. Guests can enjoy the warm wood flooring and soft lighting while savoring their meal. The restaurant is known for its Smoked Haddock Cakes appetizer and Gorgonzola Beet Salad.
Came to Tuscan’s with friends for dinner after hearing great things — and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, and our server was attentive and friendly. If you’re a margarita fan, don’t miss the spicy tequila — it’s got a great kick. We sampled most of the appetizers, and they were all fantastic. Highly recommend the lobster bisque too — rich, flavorful, and comforting. Overall, I’d definitely come back. Great spot, great vibes. P.S. Make a reservation — it gets busy!

The Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro at the end of the shopping area in Freeport was outstanding find. There are several outside tables for dining in the summer and the interior is a delightful newer atmosphere. They have a large set up to bar with a dress, lots of wine choices, and a full cocktail menu. We luckily arrived at two and Monday through Thursday is their half price happy hour on beers and cocktails. I tried the stout, the brownie, and. The coach beer and all works seemingly drinkable. For our meal, I had a haddock chowder, which was the best oud eaten the entire week, traversing the central and lower coast of Maine. I also had their muscles which were large, tender and done perfectly. My wife had a delicious apple cranberry walnut Gorgonzola salad. This ended up being one of my favorite meals of our week in Maine. our service was impeccable and the prices were very reasonable. Even though it was mid afternoon, there were 20 tables of patrons and Moore available. This restaurant should be listed as one of the best in Maine.

Came here to celebrate a birthday and award last spring and had such a lovely waiter. He brought us complimentary deserts (chocolate cake and Tiramisu both were wonderful). He truly made our night. I got the spaghetti and meatballs and it was so good and filling. The spaghetti noodles were homemade and were very good as was the sauce. The atmosphere is beautiful and diners truly get a unique experience. The mocktails are amazing and I’ve never been upset coming here. Truly amazing service, food, and atmosphere, somewhere that I will be returning to when I can. Thank you for the memorable and lovely experience!

We dropped in on the spur of the moment after shopping at LLBean. We had lots of small plates including the crab cakes, burratta, waygu on crostini, lobster bisque (had lots of chunks of lobster) and all were excellent! Jessa our server was great and gave good recommendations.
T C — Google review
This was our second visit, and it was somehow even better than the first. We had 6pm reservations on a Saturday night with a two-hour wait time for walk-ins. So you’d expect the service to lag or the kitchen to be backed up. Absolutely not the case. We were seated at a cozy two-top in the far corner near the pizza station, with a perfect view of the whole restaurant. Every member of the staff was dialed in as if their life depended on it. Our server, Amanda, was outstanding, managing us and a 16-top birthday party simultaneously without missing a beat. She took time to answer all our menu questions and even offered great drink recommendations. Our cocktails and focaccia appetizer arrived before we even finished looking over the menu. The pacing of the entire meal was flawless, just as I was finishing the last piece of bread, our entrées arrived. I had the short rib topped with whipped ricotta over tender gnocchi, and my wife had the chicken parmesan over vodka sauce pasta. Both were incredible. The highlight at the end was splitting the tiramisu, the perfect finish to a flawless meal. Having worked in restaurants myself, I was genuinely impressed by the timing, teamwork, and professionalism across the board, from the hostess team to the kitchen. Looking back, my only regret of the night was leaving Amanda just a 20% tip. She absolutely deserved more for how amazing she was. That alone gives us another reason to go back and dine with her again. Until next time!
Dale T — Google review
A local shop owner recommended we stop here while we were visiting. What a great recommendation! The inside was beautiful and comfortable. The hostess and our waitress were both so kind and accommodating. The food was delicious. We both got pasta dishes. The bolognese was delicious, perfect amount of ricotta and the braised beef was to die for. My friend ordered an amaretto sour and she said it was the best she has had in a long time. Definitely would recommend!
Amanda F — Google review
My wife and I absolutely LOVE eggplant. We have eaten various eggplant dishes all over Maine and while we love Anjon’s for the traditional eggplant parm, Tuscan Bistro’s eggplant sandwich with focaccia is absolutely delightful. It’s scrumptious, succulent and not overly breaded. And the side salad is loaded with goodness. The truffle fries were yummy and not too greasy. If you love eggplant like we do, give them a try! Great value too at $20 with the add ons. 👏

This place was fantastic! Service was excellent and the food was even better. I had the Italian sausage roll on gluten free bread and it might be the best sandwich I’ve ever had. The fries were a great accompaniment as well. The blueberry iced tea was insanely good. Would absolutely recommend!

Maine Beer Company is a popular spot in Freeport, Maine, offering American-style ales in their tasting room with views into the production facility. The brewery also features craft pizza options, including the favorite Ebb Tide pizza with lamb, tomatoes, feta, and more. With a variety of beers on tap and a limited selection of food items like pizza and salads available, it's an excellent place to enjoy drinks and delicious bites.
Nice big place and pet friendly. Was on a ride home from a road trip with my boyfriend and stopped to break up the trip home. The pizzas were really yummy especially the Margarita. They came out reasonably fast and tasted fresh- plus, they cook them in a nice big stove (brick or oven I couldn't really tell). Clean spot overall with indoor 2 level / outdoor one level seating and nice service as well.

A lovely space, great for families, excellent snacks and the pizzas were top tier with a delicious base and well cooked. The highest is clearly the beer. Lunch/Dinner are well known in the beer community, super clean and delicious. If you are travelling past Portland this is a place you really need to visit for a quick refresher. Good merchandise too!

Came to Freeport just for the Maine Beer Company! Greeted warmly and sat at a table with a menu. We ordered up at the bar - boyfriend got a beer tasting and I got a Strawberry Moon cocktail and a pretzel to share! They have a food menu with a good amount & some pizza - we didn’t get but looked good! Indoor (upstairs & downstairs) & outdoor seating, great gift shop (where we picked up a lot of gifts!), spot to grab some beer to bring home in 6 & 12 packs. Really awesome place, can’t wait to come back!

We knew we liked the beer - Lunch is a family favorite - but until today we didn't know how good the food was! Our party of 4 ordered one cheese pizza, one with sausage and Calabrian chiles, plus the veggie "sandwich" and we took leftovers home from everything. The sandwich is a whole Neapolitan style pizza crust cooked and wrapped around an incredible mix of cheese, roasted veggies, and dressed lettuce shreds that is one of the best vegetarian meals I've had in a long time. A Wolfe's Neck IPA complemented everything nicely. The atmosphere is great, staff is friendly, food and drink are unimpeachable, and to top it off they were donating 20% of food sales to a mental health organization. We'll be back soon, and often.

A staple go to while in Freeport. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and of course, amazing beer. They have their staple Lunch IPA as well as rotating options. Post ride snack is a session IPA which I really enjoyed. Their pizza is delicious as well! They have crumble sausage toppings which I personally love!

Great spot in Freeport!! One of our favorite breweries through our trip to Portland and Bar Harbor! Space was exceptionally clean, beer was the best we had, and pizza was amazing! They also don’t accept tips - only donations which I think is super cool and rare. They have it down pat here, gonna miss it!
Annie M — Google review
A hostess stand greets you when you walk through the doors, with a host or hostess that is required to seat you...in a brewery. Picnic tables are your seating options and a small food menu. Orders must be placed at the bar so get in line. If you want bottles to go, there's another bar set up with a large refrigerator behind it that has the available brews. You stand there and wait for someone to come over. In my case I waited 5 minutes or so and no one came. They delivered our pizza to the table so I went back to the table. Pizza was good, and you can't go wrong with Lunch on tap. When we finished our meal, I went back to the bottled beer spot, two people working it at this time so I placed my order. Lady behind the bar couldn't locate our tab, stated we must have closed it, which we didn't. She eventually found it in their system. Closed our tab and left. On the way out they have a little merch room, just past that is an outdoor patio with seating, and where dogs are allowed. Big parking lot which I am sure fills very fast. 3 stars because this place was cold, physically and from just about each staff we interacted with were indifferent or a tad haughty. Very uncomfortable. I won't go back again. Miss the days before they expanded, when it felt more local, more friendly and you hoped the pretzel lady had made a delivery and there was still a pretzel left to go with your beer. Sometimes bigger is not better. The beer is great though. I'll buy it in the store and skip the brewery.

Ben & Jerry’s is a renowned ice cream parlor chain originating from Vermont, celebrated for its inventive and cleverly named flavors. The Freeport location offers a delightful experience with friendly staff serving up the iconic ice cream in the same spirit as its founders did in 1978. Visitors can indulge in delectable flavors like salted caramel brownie while enjoying quick and amiable service. Situated near the LLBean complex, it's a perfect spot to grab a sweet treat while shopping.
This Ben & Jerry’s just moved to a new store, so they gave their customers a free scoop of ice cream on their opening day. A very generous and sweet store.

Good ice cream, nice employees, insane and insulting prices. Almost $8 for a small cup with no cone or toppings. Unaffordable for most Maine families. Avoid this tourist trap and get a pint at Hannaford.

The ice cream cone I got, salt carmel blonie, was delicious! The staff was friendly, helpful & ready to help my friend & I. He provided quick service with a smile. This is the best and most consistent Domino's I've ever been to anywhere I've lived. We order about once every six weeks and have for the last six years or so. I had two orders come home a little off and both times they made it right. Order with confidence.

I've ordered pickup from this location before and it was fine, I will never order delivery again. Delivery order placed at 5:46PM, estimated delivery 40-50 minutes. Delivered at 8:11PM. Attempted to call the store and only an automated response system answered. Even when asking specifically for a human representative, was cycled to a new automated system with a different voice.

They make it very difficult to get pizza. Tried calling twice and no one picked up, they turned off online ordering, and when I went inside there were three people there and it took 5 minutes to place an order and they acted like I was the biggest inconvenience. Also, when I asked to use an online coupon they told me I couldn't... so I had to pay almost twice as much. Pizza was tasty but would not return to this location.

I have ordered at this location for our middle school socials. I have always pre ordered the pizza. I have never had an issue. One receipt shows the pizzas are paid, which they were prepaid via credit card. They made the person picking up repay for the already paid pizzas. They are not helpful, but downright rude about it. Now I have to report it to my credit card company so I can get reimbursed since they refuse to reimburse me. Who ever owns this place should teach some customer service. Derosiers is way better pizza anyway, go around the corner on Main street for Good Pizza and great Service!

Linda Bean's Lobster Roll Stand is a seasonal outdoor walk-up window located at the L.L. Bean flagship store in Freeport. It offers delicious lobster rolls and chowder, providing great service without waitresses. The stand has picnic tables for customers to enjoy their meals and is praised for its amazing lobster rolls. Visitors can also savor medium-cooked burgers, homemade chips, and hearty clam chowder while enjoying a street view from tables with wheeled chairs.
There is a difference between this walk up stand and the main restaurant across the street. The lobster roll at this stand is amazing! Service is great. There are no waitresses here. It is a walk up stand. I have also eaten at the main restaurant and yes the service was terrible there and the lobster roll was not as good there as it is from this little stand. There are several picnic tables you can eat at by the stand. You will be glad you stopped.

Great stop during a shopping trip. The wait staff will make sure you enjoy everything. The medium cooked burger was perfectly charred on the outside. The home-made chips are thick and crispy, not greasy. The stick-to-your-ribs clam chowder is full of clams! Sitting at a table with a street view? Even the chair legs have wheels.

I was surprised to find the restaurant almost empty at lunch time. The menu looks good, portions are a good size. I ordered the lobster roll. It has a very generous portion of lobster, but it was dry. The roll was fresh, the kettle chips we're outstanding. I wish I had ordered the lobster grilled cheese!

It looks like some folks are mixing up this place (walk up stand) with the place across the street (sit down restaurant). This place was good. I walked up and placed my order. I had it very quick and then I sat at a table up by LL Bean. The flavor was good and you get a lot of lobster. I’d stop here again if I were to come back to Freeport.

While passing through Freeport today, my husband and I ordered a lobster roll meal to go. The food was amazing and the hostess was even more amazing! Her friendly and bubbly personality made us feel welcomed, appreciated and valued as a customer! Thank you for the delicious food and give that wonderful hostess the raise she so deserves! What a treasure and great asset you have on staff! Ayden, NC

Excellent appetizers to be had at Linda Bean's Maine Kitchen in Freeport, ME. The crab cakes were crunchy, well seasoned, and matched well with the spiced aoli. The lobstacicles (a lobster tail cut in half, seasoned, and grilled were excellent and fresh with a light slaw. Highly recommend.

Best lobster roll around. Do yourself a favor and try it. Don’t believe the low reviews. Very interesting seaweed coleslaw and lightly sauced so the lobster meat is the star of the show.

Perfectly happy with the lobster roll purchased. For $22 I received a roll, pickles, slaw and chips! He sauce is tasty. I recommend ordering here if you are ok with having a picnic.

Buck's Naked BBQ is a vibrant local chain known for its dry-rub barbecue and lively atmosphere. The meats are dry-rubbed, with sauces served on the side, drawing in a dedicated fan base. Pit masters start their day at 4 a.m. to fire up the hickory pit for an impressive array of proteins like chicken wings, brisket, baby back ribs, pulled pork, and sausage.
You walk into a large rustic cabin atmosphere with lots of spacious booths. You get to watch a top notch staff hustle to provide great service. Jenna did a fantastic job of providing quality service for us. I ordered the half rack of St. Louis Ribs with potato salad and coleslaw while my wife went with the Thai Chili Shrimp. My ribs reminded me of my time in the Midwest near St. Louis. The sides were tasty and plentiful. My wife enjoyed a tasty and generous bowl of shrimp. Get place to enjoy a casual dinner meal.

Good quality smoked, bbq, and grilled meats from the tender Ribs, juicy brisket, to the chicken and everything in between! Our appetizer of catfish, with aoli mayo was actually one of the highlights of the entire meal. Our server was exceptional as well. The only thing we could criticize are the sides, which I want to be nice, but are pretty terrible. My husband makes authentic southern collards, which would put theirs to absolute shame, my homemade honey cornbread is far more moist, my potato and pasta salad are better, but the French fries are phenomenal! That part of the review is solely based on years of restaurant experience. This is a fantastic place for quality meats, portions, quick quality service, and is pretty affordable for the area! Kinda wish we could have gotten a dessert or or something, considering I mentioned it was my husband's birthday(we didn't want the happy birthday sing along) and our anniversary is tomorrow, but we'd still both recommend trying Bucks!

Great food and atmosphere. Ate way more than we should and still took home leftovers. Fun decor around and friendly staff though it may not have been the fastest service and attention.

The food, atmosphere and drinks were amazing but not as amazing as Moose our maître-level server. Definitely highly recommend and we will be back soon for more!

We love this place! My favorite is the pulled pork but we’ve had everything else and it’s all been really good. We’ve also tried the dinky salad with ranch (best ranch ever), collard greens, baked beans, baked potato and coleslaw. All of the sides taste so good. Also their cornbread is dense and cake like which I love, not dry whatsoever. That and their bbq sauces are all amazing especially the blueberry. We will come back time and time again because this is becoming one of our favorite date night places. Highly recommend if you like bbq!

Stopped in for a late lunch. The sign got my attention and the interior decor was interesting. The burger was tasty and well seasoned with abundant fries.

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner here. The folks were greatand the food was fantastic. I really liked the sausage and ribs. They had a really good blue berry bbq sauce.

We were visiting from VA. the week of Oct. 20th-25th. We stopped by during that time and I personally found my wish. I love Barbecue but i really like it smoky. Bucks was it . The aroma when you walk in can be overwhelming but, I loved it. The brisket sandwich was fantastic. The smoky flavor was unbelievable. If you like smoky this is the place . My grandson was crazy over the Blueberry Barbecue sauce. He wished we could have brought some back with us unfortunately we were making a few stops in between to get home and it would need to be refrigerated. I realize some people would not enjoy the smokiness but i did. When I ask around a few places where we live they just kind of shrug it off on the smoke.
