Nestled in the serene waters off the coast of Koliyak near Bhavnagar, Gujarat, the Nishkalank Mahadev Temple is a captivating shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. This unique temple is partially submerged during high tide and becomes accessible on foot when the tide recedes. The experience of witnessing the sea gradually enveloping this sacred site is truly mesmerizing; it’s essential to time your visit right—ideally around four hours after high tide—to fully appreciate its charm.
What an experience. Not much crowd. A walk in sand slurry from the beach to the waters. The view, the feeling the serenity, everything spiritual about it. The added advantage of the time of visit - evening - 30 min before sunset and on a beach - a perfect time (gaudhuli) for doing Pooja - was the bonus. Must Must visit. Again & again.

You’ll need to walk about 500 meters from the mainland to reach this temple, but it’s totally worth it. The temple has five Shivlings where abhishek is performed, and there’s usually a pandit sitting there for guidance and blessings. The scenery around is really nice — we even caught a few tiny fish nearby! Tips: Be careful while walking, as there can be bits of glass on the path. Try to walk on dry sand if possible for an easier and safer walk. A calm, spiritual spot with a lovely natural vibe — definitely worth visiting.

Nishkalank Mahadev Temple in the Sea: This small temple, with a Shivling, submerges under sea water during high tide and reappears during low tide. It was our first time witnessing sea water slowly rising, gradually covering the Shivling and eventually reaching the shore—about 750 meters to 1 km away. Visiting this place at the right time is a must to truly experience its uniqueness. We reached at the perfect time—2:45 PM. By 3:00 PM, we noticed the water level beginning to rise, slowly filling the area. Around 3:20 PM, people started warning everyone to return to the shore. While walking back, we saw that nearly a quarter of the path was already submerged—the dry path we had used just minutes ago was now under water. Words can’t do full justice—this is something that must be experienced in person.

🙏 om nama shivaya 🙏 Nishkalank Mahadev Manidir visible only during low tide and submerged during high tide of sea. Midst of sea about 0.75 km from sea shore. During low tide we can offer pooja by walking there.

Very long back in time, pandavas killed their brothers in a battle and due to that got brahmahathi dosha, to nullify the dosha, they implanted 5 lingas and worshipped. Here sea water recede at a particular time and reveal the lingas. We have to dredge some time to reach the lingas. In the evening water closes the view of lingas. This natural process, happening in the kuch area is utilised by the ethereals. Nice place for a spiritual experience.

The Nishkalank Mahadev Temple in Bhavnagar is a unique sea temple located about one kilometer into the Arabian Sea, off the coast of Koliyak Beach. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is submerged during high tide and becomes accessible only during low tide, when devotees can walk across the seabed to reach it.

Parks
Victoria Nature Park is a serene 2-square-kilometer protected forest located just a short drive from bustling Bhavnagar. Designed in 1888, it offers walking, jogging, and wildlife viewing opportunities around Gaurishankar Lake. The park features well-maintained trails through lush forests and open meadows, with informative signage and facilities like picnic areas and observation decks.
Home About Park Biodiversity Conservation Support Resources Contact A Walk Through Time Explore the rich history of Victoria Park, where nature and culture coexist in perfect harmony. The Idea of Victoria Park In 1890, during the reign of Maharaja Takhtsinhji, His Royal Highness, the late Duke of Clarence and Avondale visited Bhavnagar. The city was buzzing with excitement, and people from nearby villages came to catch a glimpse of the Highnesses. The visit was celebrated with a number events, including the unveiling of Albert Victor Square, a spectacular fireworks show at the Ganga-Jalia Talav, and the inauguration of Port Albert Victor in Kathivadar. Right after the visit of the Duke of Clarence and Avondale, there was a grand celebration for Queen Victoria's birthday. The Maharaja made notable gestures to honour her, such as granting twenty life pensions to elderly widows, establishing a fund for nurses, donating a bust of the Queen to Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute in Bombay, and inaugurating Victoria Park in Bhavnagar. From Vision to Reality On May 24, 1888, Maharaja Takhtsinhji allocated a tentative four hundred and fifty acres of land to establish a public park named Victoria Park. Recognizing the need for relief work in Bhavnagar, efforts were made to enclose the land, deepen the tank within the enclosure, and construct several intersecting roads from all directions. The total expenditure for these developments during that period exceeded thirty thousand rupees. A large sum for the time. Victoria Park was designed under the guidance of the former Bhavnagar State engineer, Proctor Sims. The park was named in honour of Queen Victoria by Maharaja Takhtsinhji of Bhavnagar. People who contributed to the park RICHARD PROCTOR SIMS Richard Proctor Sims started his professional career as an Assistant Engineer with the Bombay Municipality. He left this position in 1864 to join the engineering team of the Back Bay Reclamation Company. In 1875, at the request of Bhavnagar State Administrators, he served as State Engineer for twenty-five years until his death. During this time, he dedicated himself not only to engineering projects but also to the overall development of Bhavnagar. One of his initial projects included organising the State Public Works Department and implementing a comprehensive Public Works code and accounting system. As State Engineer, Mr. Proctor Sims had multiple responsibilities, including overseeing the construction of 130 miles of roads and bridges, as well as managing the water supply and sanitation systems of Bhavnagar. Additionally, he was involved in the design or execution of several significant buildings, such as the High School, the High Court, the Anglo-Vernacular School, Nilambag Palace, Samaldas College, and Takhtsinhji Hospital. Mr. Proctor Sims was known for his selflessness, hospitality, and friendly nature. He was loved by all and his sudden passing was mourned by the Maharaja and all of Bhavnagar. SIR TAKHTSINHJI GOHIL R.S. DHARMAKUMARSINHJI GOHIL MISTRI HARILAL Why an Urban Forest? The purpose of the park was for the protection of wildlife, due to the concern of declining wildlife numbers as a result of rinderpest. Victoria Park was declared a reserved forest on 22 December 1965 for the protection and conservation of wildlife, vegetation, and objects of geological, ethnological, historical and scientific interest. Victoria Park Today Victoria Park is now also used as a botanical garden and is extended over an area of 500 acres on the southern outskirts of Bhavnagar city. The park was developed by raising such exotics like Prosopis chilensis, Parkinsonia igitata and Dandrocalmus slrictus. Presently Acasia senagal is the dominant species. A deer park and Van Bhojan Shala were added attractions to visitors and picnic goers. Steps are being taken for further development of the park by removing thorny trees and shrubs and replacing them by attractive trees of crown and floral beauty to make it a real centre of recreation for visitors
Vishal D — Google review
The park is beautifully maintained and feels more like a natural forest than a regular city garden. I really enjoyed the [early morning walk / sunset view]—the air was fresh, and the atmosphere was so peaceful. I was lucky to spot [peacocks / nilgai / colorful birds / jackals], which made the experience even more memorable.

The lake within is huge and a sight to behold. Do round off your visit to Bhavnagar with a walk here. Totally worth your time and there is no entry ticket. It's a free visit to the forest cum park.

This is an architectural masterpiece. Built by Sir John Griffiths, erstwhile principal of the JJ school of arts in Bombay, upon orders from Maharaj Sahib Takhtsinhji in 1893, dedicated to Maharani Sahiba who’d passed away during childbirth. I’m giving it low stars just because seems the current administration is incapable of maintaining this heritage building. Black greasy dust, laden with dog poo and bird poo, no cleanliness whatsoever, a marble slab coming off the floor, no safety rails on the edges of the temple. It’s a shame, the condition the building is in. If there’s any local who’s reading this, please become active and do something about it.

Ganga Deri is located on the bank of Famous 'Gangajaliya Talab' in Bhavnagar. This place is historical and builted by an English Architecture with an order of Maharaja Takhtsinhji... While this place is architecturally great and one of the best built during its time, it's the surroundings that make it even greater. Nestled between buzzing city bus stand (Gaam nu Talav) and city lake (Gangajaliya Talav) - Ganga Deri is a high-point view of urban Bhavnagar. Seating here, you can see entire market on three sides of the lake, lake lightings at night, and watch great fast food being cooked on the forth side - that smell of onions(pavbhaji and bhel) makes you hungry again and again. Seniors mostly gather here past 6, and children also play their way up and down. Doves frequent the peak point quite often, and the place is quite photogenic around Sunset time. Tea is always at stone's throw, and dilly-dallying citizens of Bhavnagar shopping around is a great feeling to devour. Bhavnagar [total area 9980.9 sq km] is the sixth largest city of Gujarat. It is located on Western coast of Gulf of Cambay in the peninsula of Saurashtra. Princely state Bhavnagar was founded in 1724 by Bhavsinhji Gohil in 1948 was FIRST state to merge in the Indian Union. “Ganga Deri” is a memorial palace it is situated in the centre of the Bhavnagar city of Gujarat, and that was designed by Sir John Griffith [principal of Sir J J School of Arts, Bombay]. Gangajalia (1893 AD) is a temple dedicated to “Gangadevi”, with a “ chhatri”, pavilion and bridge all in white marble. It has very good carvings and is an architectural master piece. It is a two storied structure which reminds one elements of Taj Mahal. This place is very good and can be included in the tour to Bhavnagar. It is not much popular point. Also needs to be maintained properly

South Indian restaurant
Sankalp Restaurant in Bhavnagar is a modern chain restaurant known for its delicious South Indian, Chinese, Italian, fast food, desserts, and beverages. The restaurant boasts modern interiors with an inviting ambiance and attentive staff. It has gained a reputation for serving exceptional dishes that perfectly match their specifications, offering a wide range of options including South Indian, Punjabi, and Indian Chinese cuisine.
We have the most wonderful experience. We ordered for south Indian Dosa and rasam-Idli… mouth watering. They served it with 4 types of tasty chutneys which I thought was the best part.

Having read good reviews about their South Indian food, we ordered onion uttapam, onion rava Dosa and masala dosa. The onion uttapam was burnt and very oily. Onion rava was also slightly burnt at the top. The food prices are way too high with the quality and quantity of food they serve here. The onion uttapam is priced at 240 Rs. Even in south India where these food items are popular they are charged only around 60-80 Rs. We had also ordered mineral water bottle. They charged 40 Rs for that which is 20 Rs above MRP. Upon asking manager, he said it’s according to supreme courts order. The service is okay. Waiters are polite but the manager here is very rude. Their behaviour towards customers is really bad. I would recommend my friends and family to never visit this restaurant especially to have South Indian food.

Good quality food. Service is also good. But the prices are little high. If it's adorable to you then this is a must try restorant.

Saffron is a perfect destination for those who enjoy a wide variety of vegetarian cuisines under one roof. The Fix Thali is a great option for lunch, offering wholesome portions and a satisfying mix of flavors. The restaurant serves an impressive range of dishes – from traditional Gujarati meals to flavorful Punjabi delicacies and authentic South Indian favorites. Everything is purely vegetarian, making it a reliable choice for those who prefer veg-only dining. With its variety, quality, and well-balanced meals, Saffron ensures that every guest leaves with a happy appetite and a memorable dining experience. A must-visit for lovers of diverse vegetarian cuisine

Punjabi restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Bhavnagar, Honest Restaurant is a culinary gem that beautifully marries modern industrial aesthetics with a diverse menu. This Punjabi eatery serves up an impressive array of dishes, including Chinese, South Indian, Continental, and Italian options. Whether you're craving Tandoori delights or pure vegetarian fare, there's something for everyone here.
We have visited nearly 3 times in the last 15 days. And, must say the food quality was the same and it tasted delicious. The menu is all vegetarian and provides a variety of options. Punjabi, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Italian etc. The service is mind blowing and they are attentive to the demands of the customers. The restaurant environment is calm and relaxing. We did not have to wait and the table was available every time. The Restaurant has free parking and parking is easily available. Our new favourite in Bhavnagar, would definitely recommend.

Once I ordered on zomato from the restaurant and following is my reciew for individual items. The masala papad I ordered was completely shattered to pieces. The kabab literally had melted butter over it. Where did the cook learn to cook? The naan was burnt to a crisp. The only thing a little ok was the Vegetable Jaipuri. It was my mistake that I thought of trying something different and ordered from Honest. And see the restaurant's courage, I contacted zomato for a refund of the amount of the shattered masala papad and they told me that refund won't be possible as per restaurant policy and just leave a review.

I had dinner in Honest Restaurant and once I ordered hotel delivery of food. Both times the food was fresh and tasty. But I couldn't give 5 stars because in my salad (tomato salad) I found a piece of bread that wasn't supposed to be there. Parking could be a challenge because restaurant is popular.
