Saint-Malo in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Saint-Malo, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
A visit to Saint-Malo is a perfect opportunity to explore a Roman walled city which has preserved its ramparts and many historical buildings, including numerous forts such as Fort du Grand Bé and Fort National which are recognised to be part of the Vauban UNESCO heritage site. The area is famous for the many yachts harbored there, and for the Quebec-St. Malo sailing race that occurs every four years, with participants racing between Canada and France. St. Malo is a popular sailing port, providing connections to the English Channel.
With favorites like Hotel De La Porte Saint Pierre-Logis Hôtels, La Maison du Beurre Bordier, and Les Remparts de Saint-Malo, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Le Moulard d'Ogust and La Duchesse Anne - Crêperie Saint-Malo so you can get the best taste of Saint-Malo while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The Grand Aquarium Saint Malo offers a modern indoor experience with close encounters with sharks, mini-sub rides, and pirate exhibits. It is one of the best sightseeing attractions in the area, providing fun activities for visitors to explore. In addition to the aquarium, there are numerous other attractions nearby such as historical sites, museums, and natural landmarks. Visitors can also find information about local culture, dining options, budget-friendly accommodations, shopping areas, nightlife spots and relaxation opportunities in the vicinity.
Wonderful place! It would make a great afternoon visit with kids or even to go on a date. Not much in English but it's fun and interesting.
Maureen E — Google review
Very nice aquarium, not only regular fish, but also a variety of more obscure, more interesting fish. The ride at the end is very entertaining and creative. Beware of loud children though, they’re not just shark bait unfortunately…
Julian K — Google review
Visiting from the UK arrived on the morning ferry with hours till accommodation check in.. Called in here to the Grand Aquarium.. Wow.. a great couple of hours spent with the Fish.. Well laid out, a great family visit.. The Nautibus tres Magnific.
Simon P — Google review
A visit for the kids who love their fish and other sea animals after a walk round the old town of Saint Malo. Lots of parking, some under cover so the car isnt too baking when you return to it. Entrance fee was reasonable for family of 4, less than UK Seaworlds. The signs were electronic and helpfully cycled through each animal in each tank in French and English, more informative than lots of tired UK Seaworld signs. Lots of different sea creatures to see, including turtles in the main tank and spider crabs, a nice flow to the different sections, and a surprise at the end, a simulation of a visit to an underwater station and submarine ride. Quite slow moving queue (whole thing probably took an hour) in a confined area, the videos along the way are all in French, and the sub ride itself is arguably more exciting than what you can see outside of the sub, but a welcome addition to end the visit on that a UK place would make you pay extra for. Worth a visit, rain or shine.
Chris W — Google review
Really lovely trip out. I think the price was reasonable considering it is similar to prices back in England and that doesn't even include a fantastic submarine ride, like here at the Grand Aquarium. Fantastic selection of fish, crustaceans and turtles to see, some I've never seen before. Lovely clean glass on the aquariums. Huge multiple touch pool area with sharks, rays, fish and crabs to touch. Animal welfare seems really good here too. Throughly enjoyed ourselves. The only thing I think they could improve on is having english subs or dub on some of the videos, so we can understand a little better. We entered at 12 noon and there was no queue, no rush to enter as open until 7pm. Spent a few hours walking around and then went on to Dinard close by for a seaside walk.
Kirsty P — Google review
Excellent experience. Very good aquatic husbandry. I really enjoyed the behind the scenes tour.
Jimretr0 — Google review
Good - but really was busy! Busier than when we went to the larger one in Paris but great fun. The sub ride at the end is good fun and not to be missed!
Kelly L — Google review
We arrived before lunch and found that there wasn't a big queue to get in which was good. We had lots of room to move about with only once or twice being a little crowded. Plenty of exhibits to see. My boys were amazed by the sharks and the Rays which one of them was brave enough to touch at the  The underwater cave was super. The gift shop was well laid out and we had no problem parting with a few euros to get some decent gifts.

Shopping mall
Shopping
Centre Commercial La Madeleine-Carrefour Saint-Malo is a delightful destination for Christmas shopping, especially for families with children who will be enchanted by the festive decorations. The Carrefour store within the center offers a wide range of high-quality products and excellent service. It also features an extensive selection of alcohol, sports goods, and various other items at reasonable prices.
Very nice. 4 years since been. Some new shops but we went for Carrefour mainly. That hasn't really changed except for the prices!!
Chris T — Google review
A good and solid mall with friendly staff, except the bald-headed security guy who is very unfriendly. I took a photo from the hairdresser store for my wife who was looking for one at the other end of the mall and apparently this is "forbidden". Are you kidding me or do you just make this mall your little kingdom where you, being a low life security guard, can rule like a king? You should really treat customers better.
Matt M — Google review
Super and tonight's visit with the grand children for a spot of christmas shopping was a real treat the children were delighted by the christmas decorations a lot of thought and care has been taken... Carrefour speaks for itself regards quality variety of products the shop is very clean with a high standard of service with the check out hostesses Carrefour par excellence at La Madeleine...!!!

A large shopping center with a generous parking lot, includes many shops for all categories as well as a huge and very well stocked Carrfour

Claude C — Google review
Shopping on a huge scale but still could not find cast iron crepe pan. Everything else pretty much here in spades; including spades. Fuel price very competitive. Would love to spend more time here.
Neville C — Google review
Pretty ok. I was interested in buying 850 euro mountain bike but no one there to talk to. And no one nearby could understand what I was trying to do or help me. I left without getting to talk with anyone. However it's not there job to speak English but it is there job to help people looking around. 3 times I visited this bike I was interested in. No one there every time. Not to worry I buy online. There loss. But looks a good place for just about everything else.

Memorial park
Nature & Parks
Parks
Parc de la Briantais is a serene park featuring a 17th-century château and expansive lawns that offer stunning views of the city and the Rance estuary. The estate, once owned by wealthy ship-owners, boasts the remains of a baroque mansion from 1666. Visitors can also explore a newer 19th-century chateau hosting art exhibitions and music concerts.
I really love this park, even more so since a little café opened there, where you can get a drink and a snack and hear some music. The park is huge, with lovely mature trees everywhere, which frame the views you get of the surrounding emerald sea. I always feel like I've topped up on good vibes after a walk around this park. Highly recommend!

Historical landmark
Solidor Tower, located in Saint-Malo, France, is a 14th-century dungeon with three towers offering striking coastal views. It stands as a symbol of the city's maritime heritage and houses a museum that delves into Saint-Malo's seafaring past. The tower also features a parish church that hosts cultural events and shares historical collections with St. Malo Castle.
A nice place to visit. There are even benches on one side for you to sit and enjoy the view.
Janet L — Google review
There is a trail you can take before the tower, under the arches and off to the right. If you walk out there it takes you to the bay with a beautiful view. Would highly recommend
Hannah Y — Google review
Fantastic building, set on this stunning bay. We parked our Motorhome just in the carpark next to it, spent several hours just looking around, taking a coffee and spending sometime on the beach at the bay. So peaceful,
Ricky C — Google review
This place is closed. You can see the outside from the street and it looks pretty nice, but the front gate is locked and the information kiosk just has a bit of local history... No hours of opening because it isn't open to the public. Weeds growing inside, so it probably hasn't been open for years.
Bill B — Google review
The great neighborhood of St Malo. It’s more quiet and the view is splendid. You can enjoy some good time there.
Eric J — Google review
Nice views. Free parking. Tuesday brocante market restricts parking availability.
Cora S — Google review
I recommend a quick visit as the view of the bay is lovely and the tower itself is quite impressive There is some parking near the tower but you have to be lucky to find a free spot
Serge K — Google review
Visited the outside of this tower. The weather was brisk and fresh, but it was a beautiful day just for a little walk. There was a family on the beach playing and plenty of dog walkers. A quaint little place to visit.

The buses never run on time, the bus drivers are unfriendly and if you park at the P+R car park for several days, you suddenly have to pay for the return trip to the car park. Not tourist-friendly.
I A — Google review
We went here to get assistance with a trip to Mont Saint Michel and were very well assisted by Kelig who gave us very good advice and helped us with the bus and tickets. A well appointed tourism centre that really knows there stuff.
Mark C — Google review
Went to the office of tourism and asked them why Fort National was closed for 3 days. They said they didn’t know. I then asked why there were people inside if it was closed and I was told that people live at the fort. I found out later there was a wedding that caused it to be closed for three straight days. Too bad they weren’t honest enough to say this.

Even if you don't go into the tourist office, its buildings look fantastic. It is a good vantage point from which to view the surrounding ships, ramparts and casino.

After years of traveling on the St Malo Portsmouth ferry and finding no where useful for a last coffee and croissant we found this place in the commercial centre by carrfour. Opens at 8.30. Creperie
La Duchesse Anne, a former temporary lodging for Anne of Brittany, is now a private home. Nearby, the imposing Hotel Magon de La Lande offers a taste of 18th-century luxury. For pre-dinner drinks, La Java is filled with vintage dolls and carnival memorabilia. Another option is Hotel Le Grand Be, which was once a government tax office but now features an art-filled lobby and subterranean spa. Among the many creperies in St.
4 of us had supper here before boarding the overnight ferry to the UK. The staff were friendly and welcoming, providing a good service. The food was delicious and fresh, comprising of a variety of galettes and 1 goats cheese salad, which was absolutely enormous! Together with a range of alcoholic drinks, the total was 71€, which we thought was very reasonable considering we were within the ramparts. We sat inside the covered verandah area, which was very pretty. A good place to stop.
C — Google review
A beautiful restaurant that is known for the crepes and ciders. Definitely worth a try when in the area.
C N — Google review
Excellent mussels with French fries. I took the sauce with white wine, onion 🧅 and parsley 🌿 Also the burger with egg with fries and the pan cake with onion, egg, mushrooms and tomato was perfect. Everyone happy 😃 Our waitress Louise was super friendly, helpful with English translation. Also very quick service. Ambient just beautiful outside on the terrace. Recommend 👍 LIP ♥️

Terrific experience coming here. I had oysters and my friend had mussels. The portion sizes and prices are very reasonable. Service is great, polite, warm and friendly. Would return.
Matthew S — Google review
We had a traditional lunch at this restaurant. Very nice galettes and crepes in a beautiful environment. Became a huge fun of galettes after the culinary experience. Also to note that here I have eaten one of the best French fries ever even if we are at Bretagne.
Vasilis S — Google review
A charming café right in the heart of the old town. We had a wonderful time — the mussels were incredibly fresh, paired perfectly with the local cider. Friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere made the experience even better.
Dmitry K — Google review
Over priced galettes, came late and were cold. The horrible man in charge said we should have eaten them quicker! We took one bite, and realised it had arrived cold. Very rude. And don't get me started on the toilets. Disgusting. Better galettes for better prices with decent toilets and staff all over the city. Give this one a miss.

Great Service and excellent food. The waiting staff was nice and patient with my attempts ordering in broken French. The recommended wine pairings are supreme! As well as the cidre selections.

Restaurant
Café de l’Ouest is a vibrant and traditional restaurant located within the Intra Muros walled city. Despite its touristy appearance, the food and service are excellent. The restaurant offers the freshest seafood dishes from 11 am to 11 pm daily. Visitors rave about the incredible mussels and traditional crème brûlée. The atmosphere is lively, with buzzing tables day and night.
You may get the feeling from seeing this place that it is made for tourists, but it actually turned out to be a fantastic place to have dinner. All the dishes we took were superb, both from a quality perspective and from cooking. The only negative aspect is that it is quite expensive, but perhaps that is to be expected in this neighborhood.
Ioannis — Google review
We went for Sunday early breakfast and this place is already opened and the decor’s so lovely so we had to go in. They have breakfast n brunch sets. Baguette is ok but the homemade croissant is amazing, highly recommended. The cappuccino is light on the coffee. Hot chocolate with cream is so delicious, cream is thick and flavourful, chocolate is a bit bitter so it’s a great combination. Friendly staff.
Thu H — Google review
We really enjoyed our breakfast at the Cafe de l’Quest. The area is very pretty and the cafe has ample outdoor seating with umbrellas. The food was very good, especially the Croque Monsieur. Our server was personable and attentive. This is a neat sidewalk cafe that also features indoor seating on two floors.
Louis E — Google review
When at the seaside, then seafood, especially in France. When in Brittany, one should definitely give the 'crêpes bretones' a try, and if not, there is always a good piece of meat, more fish, and lots of other things to try. This place has got it all at affordable prices. But whoever came up with naming it 'French fries' most likely never tasted real fries, the Belgian kind, not the McD's. France has a wonderful and diverse kitchen, but they still need to learn how to make decent fries ...
Luc B — Google review
Located right by the port, this terrace restaurant has a variety of dishes. We opted for the fish of the day, sole meuniere and chicken salad. The fish was delicious, the service was quick, even though the place was full

Go for lion d’ore this place is a bit of a tourist trap. The rice wasn’t cooked properly and the overcharged me for a small lobster. It’s annoying also to watch the male waiter with the moustache womanise three younger female waitresses constantly. Lyon d’or opposite is way friendlier and more professional.

Les Remparts de Saint-Malo, also known as the walls of Saint-Malo, are a historic and picturesque feature of this coastal town. Built between the 12th and 18th centuries to protect the town from invasions and pirate attacks, these mighty walls played a crucial role during World War II. Walking along the 2 km stretch of ramparts offers stunning views of the old city and the English Channel.
Walking here is a fantastic experience, allowing you to observe the beautiful sea. At sunset, the walls transform into a dreamlike landscape.

Historical & Landmark Saint-Malo walls This is a great place to come and visit. It is free of charge, so all you have to do is find one of the staircases leading you to the walkway the wardens & guards would have taken to check if the enemy was not coming ;) This is also a fantastic viewpoint and it is really good to start your visit of SM here as it does give you a perspective of the whole city somehow (obviously talking here about the intramuros part). The views were great & the walk is fantastic specially on a good day. Highly recommended!

Saint-Vincent Cathedral of Saint-Malo is a stunning architectural marvel that showcases Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. The cathedral's interior is adorned with exquisite stained glass windows depicting the city's rich history. Visitors to Saint-Malo can explore a myriad of attractions and activities such as the Grand Aquarium, Mémorial 39-45, Jacques Cartier Manor House, and the beautiful beaches.
Beautiful Cathedral. It was a warm day outside and I couldn't believe how warm it was inside due to all of the burning candles! Peaceful place with interesting religious artwork. Free entry but donations appreciated. You can however donate for a candle.

My wife and I were fortunate to visit on the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and attend Mass. It was a beautiful and reverent liturgy. The church is also visibly stunning and filled with history.

This Cathedrak is fantastic . Inside thanks to the beautiful stained glass windows, you are treated to one of the best light shows going . The skill involved in achieving this is immense, unfortunately my skills at photography are lacking and my photos below par . Oh well you will just have to visit yourself and give your eyes a treat . I almost forgot this is just one cathedral on the Tro Breizh (tour of Brittany) linking the towns of the seven founding saints of Brittany . So get your walking boots on I am half way around .

Beautiful interior and well worth a visit . Stunning stain glass windows and very unusual contemporary altar piece

This lovely cathedral in the centre of Saint Malo is completely free to enter. It has a lovely peaceful atmosphere, beautiful stained glass windows, a large organ at the back. It's a wonderful place to head into for a calm and quiet break from the busy tourist streets of Intra Muros, or to get away from the weather, whether rain or sunshine!

Holland Bastion, originally built in 1674 and later expanded in 1708, stands as a protective structure on the northwest walls of St. Malo. It was designed to defend the city from Dutch fleet attacks and now features a statue of Jacques Cartier, a sailor who discovered parts of Canada. The bastion is adorned with cannons dating back to the 18th century, serving as reminders of its defensive history.

Built in 1674, transformed during the first expansion in 1708, it was built to protect the city from attacks by Dutch fleets. The Bastion de la Hollande dominates part of the walls of the northwest of St. Malo. A statue of Jacques Cartier, a Malouin sailor who discovered the Gulf of St. Lawrence and eastern Canada in 1534, was placed there. The bastion is also equipped with several cannons dating from the end of the 18th century, recalling its use in the defense of St. Malo during the time of the corsairs.

Nestled at the base of the walled city, Plage de Bon-Secours is a delightful and secluded beach that is ideal for families with young children. The highlight of this beach is the seawater pool, which provides a safe swimming area even during low tide. For those seeking adventure, there are legendary Diving Boards that offer an exhilarating experience.
Beautiful beach with an incredible natural pool that allows for swimming even with low tide. Very nice views both of the sea and the city. Would highly recommend visiting even if it’s too cold to swim, as it provides a great view. We visited nearing the end of August and had a great time!

We had nothing to do so it was decided by chance to go to this beach. If we didn't have then we wouldn't happen to discover the beautiful Saint Malo. We would've stayed more if not for the bad weather.

If we hadn't had ferry cancelled at Santander we would not have seen beautiful St. Malo! Lovely walled city and spectacular views from the walls over Bon Secours beach and bay even with sea mist drifting in. Well worth a visit.
Sandra W — Google review
Due to the changes in the tides, especially when the sea recedes many meters, Rene Lesaunier had the idea of building a seawater pool, thus allowing his guests to swim all day long. The pool was built during the year 1937.

Very nice and clean beach, the tides are enjoyable. Not enough shade but I guess people are prefer sunshine. Temperature wise, it's not the warmest, it's the Atlantic.

Plage du Mole is a popular beach located beneath the city's ramparts, offering a picturesque setting and an open-air seawater pool with a diving board. Nestled between the Moles de Noires jetty and the Bastion de La Hollande, this smaller yet well-sheltered beach is a favorite spot during the summer months. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing swim while taking in scenic views, and lifeguards are present during high season for added safety.
A really great place, safe clean beach bathing for all, children loved it! Sandy with rock outcrops. Hard to believe it was all bombed so intensively in the second world war! There's a beach bar and loads of corse sand. Steps lead up to the walled town nearby and the wall to walk round at the top too.

Great activity for small children. Lots of good animal enclosures and benches for small children to get a good view. Highly recommend on a rainy day or a hot afternoon.

I really enjoyed this little zoo! It is in a historical building, very authentically organized terrariums and is a big refreshment to go there while visiting St Malo. Thank you Nature Fairy for directing me there, had a great time!
Zoltán L — Google review
Definitely worth a visit!! The animals are in a good environment and partly rescued from bad living conditions in private collections, so you also support a good cause. Very diverse zoo with fish, amphibians, spiders, reptiles, birds and the highlight: the most adorable little sugar gliders and a king quail!!!
Jade M — Google review
An unusual small zoo inside the walls of the old city. You can see it in 30-45 minutes. Animals (mostly reptiles, amphibians and fish, with a few birds and mammals) look very well cared for and have good-sized, well set up enclosures. Everything is extremely well documented in both French and English. Glad I went.
Grant D — Google review
This is a fun place to stop for a little while! Entry fee is quite reasonable and the member of staff who greeted us gave us a good rundown of the site's history. There's a fun range of animals to see, including adorable sugar gliders, energetic little turtles and the coolest dwarf crocodile you'll ever see. Definitely worth a visit!
Jake F — Google review
I really liked this place and want to give an honest review. First for the visit time, it took us about 1 hour and 15 minute for the entire visit, but if you rush through it you can do it in 10 minutes and just click a quick photo for every animal. The animals displayed are more common, which does not take away from their interest. What we found especially fascinating though were the location of the zoo (inside the rampats) and the great effort (and I reckon cost) the zoo took to replicate the unique soil composure and enivironment for each aninal. Way beyond what most of such establishment do. Also the staff really showed great passion and friendliness which we appreciated it. Room for improvemt though is definetely in how the information is displayed. Its quite old school, simple info signs, whose design lack clarity and also information. A lot of information is also only presented in French, which isnt too friendky for international visitors. Have seen it done better. Still, overall a 5 star experience for us and definetely worth the 10 euro entry if you care about reptiles in a unique historical environment.

Visited today and was absolutely brilliant, staff are excellent, warm welcome and great introduction to the animals and the ramparts that you are walking underneath, details of each animal available in both French and English, great value and fascinating to see the animals up close in a unique environment. Cannot recommend highly enough, just a minute or two from the tourist office. Well worth a visit and we shall be back.

This delightful spot not only serves an array of exquisite teas but also offers delectable crepes, galettes, and pastries that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. Brilliant brunch spot. Recommend the galette St. Jacques, with scallops and mushrooms. Mushroom omelette, served with toast and tasty salad, was also great. Portion size ideal for kids 7 and 9 to enjoy sharing a cheese omelette. Warm and friendly service. Lovely atmosphere.

I was curious because they have 4.9 score in Google. Place was cozy, ambience and service 👏👏👏 but when it comes to the food my chicken tart was excellent, I love the combination with the plum. My french husband was disappointed with the crêpes and the amount of food. This restaurant is good to try but we prefer the crêpes in the corner. Minus one star for overly buttered crêpes that's almost 10€. As you can see in the photos below, the presentation is average. Paid almost 85€ for those, plus drinks (cidre+coffee).

There is a reason why this place has a high rate on Google maps. And I can confirm starting from the staff and the food everything is excellent. Prices are reasonable for a tourist area. Thank you for having us and making our afternoon special.

Wow!! We saw this place had great Google reviews, so we quickly headed over to order before the kitchen closed. The service, presentation and quality of the ingredients is beyond 5 stars! We stopped by Bergamote for galettes, and wow! They were amazing. You can tell everything’s made with care and great ingredients. We happened to be some of the first customers of the day, and the team welcomed us with such warmth and kindness. It’s the kind of place that instantly makes you feel comfortable. Can’t wait to go back!

Bergamote pulls off the neat trick of feeling like a very high-end establishment whilst being easygoing, affordable and above all excellent at what it does. In our case we always have the galettes and crepes, which are among the best we have had and definitely the best we have had (out of about 4 other establishments) in St Malo. This was our third visit and the high standards never slip. Along with all the above, service is impeccable and the decor inside feels a tad luxurious. You’d think all this would come at a premium cost, but browsing around the town, its prices seem pretty much on par with the local competition. Highly recommended.

We tried two different crêpes. The chocolate sauce crêpe was quite good and we enjoyed it. However, the savory crêpe was just okay and didn't really stand out. The coffee here is excellent, definitely a highlight! However, the service was quite slow, and the prices were a bit on the expensive side.

We sneaked out of our tour and spotted this lovely cafe that we ordered a crepe with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. It was heavenly out of this world. Best chocolate sauce I have ever had. Nice hotel, good value. Close to the walls. Only downside of historic building is thin walls and small shower... Oh and lots of stairs. Breakfast is opposite and pretty nice as you can make your own crepe.

Great for cycles, bike touring. Reception will keep your cycles safe. We had the room on the ground floor for disabled people. No stairs so ideal for loading and unloading our bikes. Friendly family run hotel. Ideal location inside the walled city and next to the sea. Also five minutes away from the ferry port. Clean. Breakfast available at additional cost though we didn't try this.

Good location, hard to find available parking close by. Room a bit old, tight and badly soundproofed. Bathroom has seen better days. Good view from top room. Skipped the breakfast as I saw poor selection on the buffet and did not do the price justice.

This is a very traditional hotel in an old building with no lift, lovely old wooden stairs and a superb location. There are 3 floors and some rooms have the best seaview in town. Leave the windows open and the roar of the sea will enter your dreams. If you want air con and lifts, do not come here. It is not for you. The hotel is very good value for money. My bedroom was simple but clean and had everything you would want including a kettle. Breakfast is well worth paying 13 euro for. Its a buffet in a lovely building over the road. If yiu have a bicycle there is a secure locked room next door. I'm returning to the hotel porte saint pierre next time I'm in Saint Malo, which hopefully won't be long!

The venue provides a low-key atmosphere with tables overlooking the sea, making it an ideal spot to savor a light meal or dessert while enjoying the stunning views of Grand Be and Petit Be. Visitors often flock here to witness the breathtaking sunset over the ocean, creating an unforgettable experience.
Such a cute restaurant, situated next to the ocean with stunning views. The food was excellent. You can choose from either sweet or savory crepes. We ordered 4 different crepes and our favorite was the ham and onion crepe. If you like the taste of onions from the French Onion Soup, then you need to order this one! The crepes were delicious! I highly recommend with or without kids!

With so many creperies in the town, it was no easy choice, but this was a winner with the view of the sea. Their "Super Complet" galette had a perfectly cooked filling and crispy corners. I found the cappuccino weak and slightly bitter, even with a spoonful of honey, which I was charged €1 for 😏

We went there on 8th of April as it was recommended as the best place to have crepes. We had to wait at least 15/20 minutes before someone came to take our order. After other 20/25 minutes our crepes arrived but one was wrong order so we had to wait again. Regarding the food, it was nothing special, we had better quality and taste in different places around. The cider was really good at least.

Best galettes in St-Malo! We returned again for breakfast twice in a row. Amazing location for watching people jump off the lido diving board and they serve perfectly crispy-edged galettes with plenty of variety on the menu. A must-visit!

I'm glad that I went on my first day. It was a Sunday evening and there were plenty of seats available. After that, it was full almost every evening. The galette was very good. It was cooked just right, kinda crispy at the bottom. The cheese was tasty as well. I was disappointed by the salad, it was drenched in the dressing. Later, I had a 5 euro galette from a cheap street vendor. It's not comparable. This one was much better and totally worth paying extra.

Brasserie du Lion D'Or is a traditional eatery offering generous and flavorful dishes such as composed salads, mussels, roasted chicken, baked eggs, tartare, scallops, and gourmet coffee. The friendly and efficient service adds to the dining experience. While not the most budget-friendly option in the area, it is highly recommended for its quality. Additionally, outdoor seating with views of the city walls provides a delightful atmosphere.

We had been recommended to book dinner while visiting Malo, and it did not disappoint. The menu is rich, with a great wine list to match. We chose meat for the main course, each dish cooked to perfection, and paired it with a good Bordeaux wine. The dessert menu is sure to spark anyone’s imagination — from the Scandaleuse Macaron to the Éclair 19 cm de bonheur. A perfect evening to end a memorable holiday!

Beautiful looking restaurant but food not that good. We have seen very good comments about food so don’t understand why people say so. It is a historic place place so usually crowded maybe this is why food is rushed? The best thing we ate was mussels but they were quite small. The homemade potato cips was very smelly like something else was cooked in the same oil and not tasty at all. The fish with cream was full of potato instead of fish but not delicious. Despite the taste of food, service was pretty quick and servers were very nice and kind. Try the restaurants out of old city there are very good ones in Sillon plage.

The best of the best in Saint-Malo! The truffle Saint-Jacques risotto was absolutely incredible — you can really taste the truffle. The rumsteak was perfectly tender, and the truffle egg starter was unbelievably good. The salted caramel crêpe for dessert was also one of the best we’ve ever had. Fast service, kind and professional staff, pet-friendly — and absolutely worth the money. They deliver both quality and care. 5 stars, no doubt!

I wasn't sure about this restaurant in such a tourist place and area. We were not disappointed. The food was very good. The muscles were fantastic, and the staff prepared beef tartare at our table to our liking, so it was like lunch and a show. We were recommended this restaurant by a friend who had visited during a past trip. We visited as a table of four and all of us were very pleased with the food. The pork chops were delicious and the Gorgonzola moules to die for!! Would absolutely recommend.
Georgina B — Google review
Fantastic food and service! Right on the main walking route which is typically a tourist trap, but not this one. The Moulles (mussels) were of outstanding quality and cooked superbly in a blend of herbs. The Grilled Pulpo salad was beautifully done as well. The vanilla ice cream (which Brittany appears to excel at) and espresso were a great way to complete the meal. They’re open through the afternoon as well. Highly recommend

Nestled along the stunning coastline of Saint-Malo, The Sculptured Rocks is a captivating sculpture garden that showcases the artistic genius of Abbot Adolphe Julien Fouéré. From 1894 to 1907, this remarkable monk dedicated his life to carving intricate scenes from local history into the granite cliffs overlooking the sea. Visitors can easily access this hidden gem by strolling out from Le Benetin restaurant in Rotheneuf, where breathtaking views of Saint-Malo Bay and Cap Frehel await.
Unique attraction with an amazing backstory. Stunning location right on the edge of the rocks. Beware if you take small children as there are precipitous drop offs while looking at some of the sculptures.

Beautiful place with great views. The entrance was 5€ and you get a brochure with information on the site, which explains its origin and more of the man behind this work. They have a small gift shop too. You have further information inside and nice wooden benches to rest and enjoy the view. Feel free to take a snack with you. The whole visit can last around 30 minutes. The place offers lovely views of the sea and the surroundings. It wasn’t crowded when I visited, which was during the afternoon.

The Jacques Cartier Museum, located in the Manoir de Limoelou, is a unique legacy of the famous French explorer. This museum offers a glimpse into Cartier's life and history, showcasing his summer residence with period furniture and rooms that serve the same functions as they did during his time. Visitors can join guided tours to learn about Cartier's exploration of eastern Canada and see some of the navigation instruments he used.
Great visit. We learned a lot not just about Cartier but about navigation. We loved all the explanations and anecdotes.

A 25 minute walk inland from bus stop. Long even road. Nice walk. Visit includes a short video and guided tour. Museum really well put together. Lasted 1 hour. I had contacted them before arriving and they had a guide who spoke English to show us 2 around. It was lovely. Worth going to.

Interesting museum for people who are interested in French Canada’s history. The museum is very small and doesn’t have much stuff but it is staffed by helpful young people.

We really enjoyed this very interesting visit. The guide was clearly passionate and knowledgeable about Jacques Cartier, the history of navigation and Saint Malo. The gift store has lovely things, sold at a reasonable price. Attn: you must deserve to visit.

Excellent guided tour of just over an hour. Interesting history of the man who discovered Canada, how they used to live in those days and also how they counted time & navigated before clocks & GPS were invented.

Cannot leave a review as we had no chance to enter. You have to travel very far to see it. On google the time table is not added, the website is outdated, on the booklet one information is written and in reality we were told that they have a lunch break and museum is closed and that we can go inside only with the tour guide and it is only in the certain hours.

Outdoor Activities
Grande Plage du Sillon, situated in the northern region of Brittany near Saint-Malo, is a popular city beach known for its long stretch of sandy shores and views of the historic Fort National. The area boasts a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages when it served as a refuge for pirates. This beloved resort destination offers visitors an expansive golden coastline, clear waters ideal for swimming, and a family-friendly atmosphere. Additionally, it provides stunning vistas of the walled city and surrounding islands.
Douce France où la mer qu'on voit danser:) It's really a wonderful place, unique, but also one of many beautiful places in northern France. There is this certain vibe there, this sort of wild, sauvage feel to these places. Maybe it's a feeling of freedom, or the incredible history that is preserved by the marvelous architecture?

I don't have enough words to describe the beauty of this place, the beach with fine sand, the sea of a spectacular color, the vibe of this corner of heaven. I simply adore it 🥰
Sasha — Google review
Wonderful! Gorgeous views. Fantastic panoramas! It made me painting it. I share my watercolour with this site.
Vladimir S — Google review
At 3 km long, it is the largest sandy beach in Saint-Malo. The dike was built from 1883 to 1913 on an old sandy beach. With a length of 1671 meters, it runs along the Grande plage lined with numerous villas built at the end of the 19th century. Along the Sillon, a line of breakwaters protects the dike from the force of the waves. Built at the beginning of the 19th century, the oaken breakwaters have a depth at least equal to or even greater than their visible height.
Natalie D — Google review
Grande Plage du Sillon is the largest beach and was voted the most beautiful beach in France in 2018. It stretches over three kilometers of fine sand and connects two neighborhoods of the city - Intra-Muros and Parame. During high tide, the beach completely disappears, and during low tide, it becomes a very wide beach.

Fort National is a 17th-century granite fortress located on an outcrop that can only be accessed at low tide. Guided tours are available for visitors to explore this historic site. The fort is part of a range of popular sightseeing attractions and activities in the area, including Saint Malo, Grand Aquarium, St Vincent Cathedral, and beaches. Visitors can also experience local culture, dine at great restaurants, find budget-friendly accommodations, and enjoy shopping and nightlife options nearby.
Came during low tide in winter and it was truly spectacular even during this time of the year. It’s even better when you don’t have to fight the crowds during the most favored times of the year. Definitely worth your time to visit, but check the local tide schedule if you wish to walk along the beautiful stretch of beach here.
Jonathan L — Google review
Fantastic with great views. Definitely worth a visit at low tide, it is open when the flag is up. It costs €5 to access the fort, cash only is accepted
Stuart — Google review
When I arrived at the gate it was €5 and they accepted only cash so I wasn’t able to go in. Views from the gate looking back to the city are stunning and well worth the walk over.
Louise R — Google review
It’s opened only from June to September for visits. But it’s placed beautifully in the middle of the sea and reachable only on low tides.
Florin D — Google review
If the France flag is on the castle means it’s open to public to visit. However even visit the beach is fun.
Hao Y — Google review
On the Michelin scale, it would be ⭐️, worth stopping in if you’re around, I would not make a dedicated trip just for this. Saint Malo is very nice though.
Mike L — Google review
Very nice castle on the bay. You can walking to the castle only when there is low tide. This is an ancient guard castle to defense the city from sea attack, so there are cannons inside. There is a large grass for resting, it's also beautiful for child who want to run. In the sunny days is a very spectacular place for taking pictures. It's important so pay attention at the tides, if you don't want wet your shoes..
Sergio — Google review
I went there at 3:30 on a Friday at low tide and it was closed, even though in the picture I took, you can see people inside. I’m not sure why they can get in and I can’t. Not good. Also, the hours on Google say it’s open. Too bad they don’t update it when they’re closed. I went to the office of tourism and she said that is closed for the next three days, but she didn’t know why. I found out why it was closed for three days because it was due to a wedding. I guess rich people have priority over the regular people. Also, it says to look for a French flag to see if it’s opened, but they fly a Britain flag along with the blue flag to confuse you. Luckily I was able to go back another day and their website said it was opened and when I got there they said I could tour it for 30 minutes. About five minutes later, they told me I had to leave even though the tide had not blocked the away.

This is a super gourmet restaurant near Saint Malo. I went here two time and I hope to came back another time. The view is fantastic all seasons, the employee are polite and attentive to your needs. The quality of the food is super! The food portions are adeguate. The wine list is very rich and a sommelier suggest you the better wine to your food choose. I recommend booking in advance, in this case I suggest asking a table close the window.

Enjoyed my fish - perfectly done with nice veggie blend and presentation. Mathew was very helpful. The view is wonderful. Though we ate inside - the terrace is very inviting. Their “famous” soufflé desert was subtle , delicate and delicious. Le Benetin is a nice experience and worth the drive.
Eric B — Google review
Fantastic place great view and service. make sure you reserve. My favourite server was Salome with her genuine smile. Great wine selection. The veal chop was so tender it melted in your mouth. Had the scissor clams which were overpowered by the bacon flavour but my fish (Bar) was perfectly cooked and loved the wild asparagus! Wasn't a big fan of the Grand Marnier souflé which looked more impressive than the bland egg custard it tasted like... their chocolate deserts were excellent.
Dino M — Google review
The restaurant is in a beautiful setting with fantastic views of the surrounding coast. It’s more of a casual dining experience with high end ingredients cooked well. The food was tasty. We had the mackeral starter which was a little disappointing and could do with some refinement. For mains the duck and the lamb. The garnish and vegetables were similar for both all cooked al dente. The lamb was a mix of deliciously cooked shoulder and rack served pink. The fat on the chops needed more rendering but they were still tasty. All in all a good meal with top end pricing. The star of the show was the very large cheese selection. It needs some accompaniments like nuts or fruit with the chutneys to improve it.

These guys do chicken. Chicken really well. It's a shame the fries were such a let down. Forlorn and over cooked, soft and soggy. It's a shame to say McDonald's does better fries 🍟 :) but still had a good meal and fed a family of four for €33, which is pretty good!

Unicorns ARE magical! And they make awesome galettes as well! We had the following dishes and they can be described with 1 word: - Galette Mr. Seguin (see photo): Excellent - Galette Norvégienne: Excellent - Moules Marinières (with fries): Excellent (also, excellent fries) I also drank the cider from tap and it was, you can guess it, EXCELLENT! We'll definitely be back next time we visit St. Malo again!

It was a very pleasant experience. The waitress was very nice and took care of us. She even showed us how best to eat mussels. The mussels were very tender and full of favor. It seems to smaller mussels are more tender than the larger sizes ones. We enjoyed that as our meal today. We used the fries to soak up the cream sauce plus an order of bread and butter. What a great way to enjoy the courtyard in the walled city. You should take this place out!

The staff excelled here! They were extremely helpful and friendly... And commentary of each other. We had crepes and drinks... Both were stellar!! We had a coconut chocolate crepe and the rum one they light on fire. Quite a show and delicious. The cocktails stole the show... Especially the Irish coffee. People watching was perfect from the outdoor tables too. I highly recommend a visit for drinks and crepes.

La Maison du Beurre Bordier, located on the charming cobblestone Rue de l'Orme, is a butter lover's paradise. The store offers delicious traditional butter and a variety of flavors like seaweed and yuzu. Visitors praise the friendly and patient staff who are happy to answer questions about their diverse range of butters.

Came to Saint-Malo to basically come here, but of course enjoyed my time in Saint-Malo overall. I lucked out because both times I stopped by the store, it wasn't at all busy. I strategically went before boarding my train back to Paris to ensure I had the freshest butter. Purchased the mini cooler bag and ice pack to keep my butter cooled and then my hotel kept my butter in their fridge until I flew back to Canada. The service here was good and you can watch them shape the butter with the paddles. FYI, they do not vacuum seal the butter at this location - I brought my own large zip-lock bag to keep them safe during my travels. Also purchased the caramels (which are incredible) and the madelaines (those were a gift to my parents and they loved them).
Jessica N — Google review
I am from Hong Kong and you wont believe I came to St. Malo just for the butters in this shop. They have the best butter in this world. Beautiful enterance into the Old Town of St Malo. Cobbled streets with many places to eat and drink, not forgetting the many shops. A must visit for a drink is La Galeion, full of antiques. Each time you go in, you see something different

San Malo is an ancient walled city and the Big Gate was the main gate used to enter the city. It has a few of the saints on display to protect the city from the past and they are still there. Beautiful gate and wall.

Simply loved the place, built from granite on granite. Tastefully reconstructed after the war. It has a timeless quality. I needed to experience the old town after reading ‘All the Light You Cannot See’, I wasn’t disappointed.

Bistro Autour du Beurre Bordier is a renowned establishment located in Saint-Malo, France. The bistro is well-regarded for its excellent offerings and is situated near other notable dining spots such as Bistrot du Rocher and Kaboul, known for Afghan cuisine.
Everything was perfect! We have eaten here many times over the last few years, and every meal is an utter delight--from the complimentary amuse-bouche, to the 8 different kinds of butter, all the way to the scrumptious dessert. It is also very easy to make reservations online.
Cristina M — Google review
An incredibly unique and delicious pairing menu centered around different artisan butters and lobster. 🦞 🧈 Each four dishes, simply superb. Amazing subtle changes to normal flavors with the selected butters (Madagascar vanilla, raspberry, chili, truffle. Excellent service and a beautiful white wine selected by the head waiter. I would have loved a more generous pour on the champagne; it was pretty short. Wonderful meal from start to finish. Highly recommended.
Cathy C — Google review
We had a delicious meal here, butter and bread is fantastic as a few posters have mentioned. Lady that served us was very nice...attentive enough without being intrusive. Relaxed feeling restaurant, looks very cool only suffered from lack of customers on the night we were there (Tuesday) which is a shame as people are missing out on some lovely food. Not cheap but a good quality dining experience
Philipos — Google review
We had an amazing dinner for our wedding anniversary. All the dishes we had were simply delicious, not to mention a selection of 8 different butters. It was a very nice experience and we will return if we are in the area again. It is recommended to book a table.

Had an absolutely delicious meal here. Started with yummy bread and a sampler of the most delicious butter. Followed this with the duck which was melt in your mouth delicious. Service was excellent. Highly recommend you dine here if you get a chance

Excellent food in a very nice environment with friendly service. Lunch menus are varied (though having two choices for the main dish would be great) and fairly priced. The butter plate that every table receives along with delicious bread is a highlight!

Such a fantastic experience and meal. It’s a very cool restaurant with an excellent menu. Honestly, one of the best meals I’ve had in quite sometime. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable. I’ll be dreaming about the butter for months after this fantastic experience.

Restaurant
Located in a charming 17th-century building in the heart of the old town, Restaurant l'Absinthe seamlessly combines traditional and contemporary elements. The cozy space features exposed stone walls and stylish decor, creating a romantic atmosphere. The menu offers creatively plated French cuisine with Japanese influences, such as foie gras with seaweed and tomato compote, line-caught yellow pollock with homemade pesto, and poultry supreme with Thai sauce.
A true french experience if you like fish. The food was excellent with surprising taste and lots of details and the service also made us enjoy our dining more. The presentation was aesthetically pleasing and the portions were perfect if you enjoy a three course meal without feeling too full. I highly recommend the saint pierre fish and the raspberry pavlova.
Laura — Google review
Exceptional cuisine and execution. The melon and ham, while simple, introduced a world of complexity when presented with the stone-fruit compote and balsamic reduction. The duck breast was expertly seared and plated with care. The star of the show, however, was the ceremonial service of my glass of absinthe, done in the ancient style, complete with dripping fountain and spoon. I thought such a practice had been abandoned a century ago. It was fun to re-live those times, if not for a night.
Michael E — Google review
Amazing experience from the beginning to the end. Service is professional and human. Food was great, an excellent "quasi de veau", everything contains an element of surprise inside a good choice of products and tastes. Wine pairing was not what I expected but still a nice addition to a perfect dinner.
Julien R — Google review
A truly wonderful dining experience A very attractive setting in the first floor and basement of an older building. Walls a mix of beams, columns and arches of wood in a slate grey stain with walls of stacked flat stone. Lighting gave a warm ambiance. Wait staff was attentive, timely and very well versed in the menu and wine selections. We started with a bottle of Bordeaux and the wonderful house baked whole wheat baguette and creamy butter. The appetizers were excellent! Monkfish Gravlax was slightly salty and herby with kaffir line oil and a fresh salad of orange and grapefruit supremes for sweet, acid bite and balance. Beef Tataki was thin, rate strips of seared beef with julienned carrots, zucchini and pickled daikon radish. All in a great teriyaki sauce. Both wonderful mix of flavors. Mains were equally impressive. A saddle of lamb Ballontine style - a stuffing of breadcrumbs, aromatic vegetables with a thyme laced au jus. Sides of carrots and broccoli and sliced potatoes. The lamb was perfectly pink with the moist, flavorful filling. Croaker Rossini Style was a skin-on portion seared crisp with a Rossini sauce (rich deglaze of fish pan juices and Madeira) poured over the fish and a seared slice of foie gras. A flavorful risotto al dente with steamed vegetables. All merged together wonderfully. The dessert was called the Rock - a scoop of praline chocolate mousse with a heart of caramel and peanuts in a dark chocolate ganache shell with fluer de sel ice cream beside. Oh, so decadent! Be warned, you must order before your meal starts as it takes 45 minutes of prepare this masterpiece! A truly wonderful dining experience! Suggest you make reservations.

We spent two weeks in France, one in Paris and one in Normandy and visited many fabulous restaurants (one being a Michelin) and we must admit, our meal at L’Absinthe was our favorite. We chose the wine/meal pairing menu for lunch and every course along with the wine was perfect! The plates were not only beautifully prepared but also delicious. If you’re in Saint Malo we highly recommend that you visit!
Sheri R — Google review
Nice designed restaurant and tasty food. There’s no chance if you don’t make reservation. In general good experience but have to point out: - Long waiting time for each course (after 9pm) - Paired wine sometimes forgotten/served late; - My main dish is cold with dry pasta (waiter professionally apologized but instead of serving a new one, they just heated it up - noodle even more dry) We didn’t make a drama because I am really hungry and I don’t want to wait again. - Didn’t receive Amuse-bouche (maybe it’s different in the north) We still give 4 star because food is really tasty and we want to help the restaurant to improve rather than only complaining.
Chris Z — Google review
The restaurant was nice and calm. The waiters were welcoming and accommodating. The price is a little bit expensive for what we experienced but not excessive. The starter was very nice. The fish was good too. The lamb chop dish was not impressive. It was okay but nothing special about it. The worse part was one out of 3 lamp chops was very very very very dry and hard. It seems like it was reheated multiple times. You can see on the photo how it looks very different from the other 2. Worst part of the meal was the dessert. The center was frozen hard rock (frozen cream, it was disgusting in the mouth). Worst than that was the caramel was burnt black and was extremely bitter. 2 stars for the place and the service. It was an okay experience but I don’t think I will come back.
Christelle Q — Google review
Very disappointed by their 59€ menu. Overpriced for food pairings that weren’t great. For this price we could’ve gotten much better food elsewhere!!! The entrée oyster was marinated and too sour, pairing with sour marinated vegetable was not a good idea. I could only finish 1/4 of the dish. The fish was tender and delicious. The cheese plate was good. The risotto that came with scallops was way too soft and watery. Dessert was just cut up fruit with an overly sweet sauce. Although the service was very friendly, it was very slow. It took us 4+ hours to finish dinner because there was a group of 40 that night.

Absolutely value of money and one of the best Michelin recommended seafood restaurant in St Malo. We just visited here on a busy Saturday night, which order 2 dinner set. But surprisingly every dishes of the course are excellently prepared, with fresh oyster, and nice fish soup. The coconut based sauce with fish is very appealing, which is somehow unforgettable. Grand Bé is a rocky island near Saint-Malo that can be reached on foot during low tide. It features the remnants of an old fort strategically designed by French architect Vaubun and the tomb of Francois Rene de Chateaubriand, a prominent figure in French romanticism. The island also played a role in World War II, serving as a location for German gun emplacements before being quickly liberated by American forces.
Fascinating place to visit. Beautiful views back to Sant Malo. Great walk.

Good hotel located in the heart of the walled city of St Malo. Stylish decor, in all areas, public areas, rooms and hallways, seperates this from comparably priced hotels. High end restaurant and Spa facilities available. Limited parking is available for those brave enough to tackle the maze of cobbled streets. Recommend booking parking in advance especially if your vehicle can't fit in the underground parking.

Awesome view ! The road is hidden half the day, for us it became possible to go there a bit after 18h00. After a bit of a walk and a small sandstorm we were greeted with an unforgettable view. Snapped some really cool photos, should be fun for photography enthusiasts!

It's a majical place to visit. Crystal clear water surrounding the area during high tide. You can walk out to the fort in low tide, although it's not open to the public. The walk itself is spectacular
Liza X — Google review
Gran Bé is a tidal island, at low tide you can reach the island on foot from the nearby beach of Bon-Secours. On the island you will find the remains of an old fort. The site was reused by Vauban in 1689 for the defense of Saint-Malo. And during the Second World War, the Germans reused the island by installing a heavy naval battery there (antiaircraft and anti-tank cannons, as well as two searchlights) which led to it being heavily bombed by the North Americans.

Bidouane Tower, a historic structure in Saint-Malo, stands at 23 meters tall and was originally constructed as a gunpowder storage facility in the 15th century. It played a significant role in the city's defense and was targeted by an 'infernal machine' in 1663. Today, visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding islands and shimmering waters.
I think this is the most scenic place and a must when in St Malo. When I was there, the pianist was playing under the clear sky and it was wonderfully moving and elemental.
Kentarieeenu 3 — Google review
It was against this tower that the Anglo-Dutch tried to operate an "infernal machine" in 1663, which consisted of a ship full of explosives that was sent near the tower to explode it. It is one of the main fortified towers of the walls. It is 23 meters high and 13 meters wide, and was part of the desire to make of Saint-Malo an important fortress. It was built on a rocky promontory during the second half of the 15th century. It takes its present name in 1691, when it was rebuilt.

Petit Be Fort is a historic gem located on a small tidal island outside the walls of Saint-Malo in Brittany. Dating back to 1689, this Vauban-designed fort offers visitors a glimpse into its well-preserved architecture and houses an exhibition on tides and cannons. Accessible by foot or boat depending on the tide, it's essential to check the tide schedule before visiting. The fort provides stunning views of St.
We didn't actually go inside the Fort (there is a charge to enter) but we wanted to walk up to it as not often have the chance to go on a tidal causeway! Fortunately the tide was out and it was worth visiting the island for the views.
Elizabeth B — Google review
A beautiful fort on the smaller island. This is a tidal island so when the tide is low, one can walk to it. Unfortunately the fort wasn't open when we were there but the views from the island are magnificent. Make sure you look back to the walled city when walking to the island.

At the end of the 17th century, maritime warfare between the French, English and Dutch wreaked havoc. In the heart of this economic and military battle, Saint-Malo was on the way to become the main port of France. So it became urgent to defend the famous corsair city whose strategic position was of first importance. For this purpose, Louis XIV commissioned the architect Vauban to implement a military defense. Vauban created an ambitious defense system that perfectly integrated the geography of the coasts and possible maritime attacks. At the heart of this system of fortifications is the Petit Bé. A flag is raised to indicate that the fort is open to the public.

The walking path to this fort is easy once you have low tide. Just make sure to check the opening timing sometimes they change the opening hours.

The construction of Saint-Malo Castle began in 1424 by John V, Duke of Brittany, to secure his control over the town. The castle features a D-shaped keep and is the oldest built on a corner tower of a rampart. It stands at the bottom of Grande Plage du Sillon and measures 20 meters high and 33 meters in diameter.
Fabulous walk and inside the wall of the castle is so lively. Watch the kids growing into the sailors life, they take sailing lessons ⛵️ Parking is really difficult and it fills up quickly. So many nice cafes and it is great place for people watching.

Parking is challenging but I recommend walking around that beach area and visiting the castle. A lot of good restaurants, a bit overpriced at times but affordable. Shops inside the castle could stay open longer during high season.

The Chateaux was built between the 15th and 18th centuries. The castle was built by the dukes of Brittany to ensure their guardianship over the city of Saint-Malo. Anne of Brittany, future queen of France, ordered the construction of the tower of Quic-en-Groigne between 1498 and 1501. Today it has been converted and houses the services of the City Hall of Saint-Malo, while the General Tower and the Great Keep house the Museum of the History of the City.

Situated facing the ramparts of Saint-Malo, FIDELIS prides itself on its varied marine menu featuring dishes such as salmon tacos, roasted blue lobster from Brittany, and hake with barley risotto.
Small intimate setting. Reservations helpful. Food was gourmet. We read that it is a Michelin Star restaurant. Food was music to our palates. Definite highlight on our trip.

The menu and food were delicious. The entrée was an asparagus soup, the main dish a merlu, and the dessert featured raspberry, almond, and citrus flavors. Honestly, all the dishes were perfectly cooked, everything was on point and carefully prepared. My sincere congratulations. The service was pleasant and attentive. I would have loved if they had explained the dishes while serving to enhance the experience even more. The atmosphere and decor were beautiful, reflecting the sailor and marine style of the city. Overall, highly recommended!

*** Highlights: The pinnacle of French cuisine! *** What we liked: The lamb (soft pull), the dessert perfectly balanced (not too sweet), the tacos! *** Recommended? Yes! The head waitress is also very nice, all staff speak English too!

Have been here for more than 5 times, so far it’s our favorite restaurant in Saint Malo. Food is really fresh and tasty, the service is also very good. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to have a nice meal in the old town.

The ceviche, the tacos and the fish were amazing! Everything was super fresh and flavorful. I had the John Dory with a yuzu sauce that was unbelievable! Strongly recommend it!

Bouche en Folie is a charming and intimate restaurant located in Saint-Malo, offering a delightful dining experience with a focus on seasonal dishes, particularly fish and grills. The menu changes every few weeks, showcasing first-rate cooking and offering two courses for 22 or three for 28. The interior exudes charm, while the modern French cuisine further enchants visitors. With limited seating, it's advisable to make reservations in advance to savor the delicious fresh seafood and local cheeses.
Recommend! Very good regional food with a twist, exciting menu cooked by the owner himself. Well worth the money. Reservations strongly recommended.

You wouldn’t necessarily notice this little gem from the street. But the food is phenomenal, fresh & just perfect in every respect. The service was fantastic - knowledgeable, cheeky & fun. Catered for allergens without any issue. I would return in a heartbeat.
Julia-Laurence A — Google review
This has to be the most perfect restaurant. Everything is of utmost quality: cuisine, friendliness of staff, and atmosphere. Despite my very weak French language skills, I navigated the menu with the help of my waiter. Gravlax de saumone, Cod with courgettes in a savory butter and ham sauce, and profiteroles smothered in the most amazing chocolate sauce I've ever tasted. Ooh la la! A very nice Sauvignon Blanc, with un caffe and a Lambig de Bretagne to cap things off. The waiter urged me to pop around the corner and speak to the chef. A very young chap with extraordinary skills (spoke to him in English). Ça c'est bon. Go here!

One word to describe this lovely restaurant “top” ! The server is very nice, and we had a chance to meet the chef, he makes dishes with dedication. We had a great time in Saint-Malo.

I fell in love with Saint Malo when I was 21 years old studying in France. This trip symbolizes my return after 26 years, and Bouche en Folie is everything I wanted it to be: small, local, fresh ingredients, innovative chef, and impeccable service. We loved every bite! Don't hesitate to try this place. Absolute perfection! Make sure to secure with a reservation!

1. Make a reservation - easy to do by messaging them via Facebook! They have a sign saying full for lunch and dinner hanging on their door so it must happen a lot. 2. Local feel - menu is hand written and brought on chalkboards. It is in French but the man servicing front of house knew enough English to talk us through the options. Because the place is small, it really feels cosy. 3. Amazing food - highlights were the "accras croustillants de crabe" - perfectly fried and seasoned crab cake; fish w curry beurre blanc sauce and parmesan risotto; and the "tiramisu" made w speculoos cookies, marscapone cream, apples and caramel au beurre sale 4. Great service - service was prompt and incredibly nice...even after we made a pretty big mistake. 😋 5. Close to beach - after our dinner, we walked one minute to the beach and watched the sunset. 6. Great value for money - was given two options: three course meal @ 30€ or two course meal @ 28€ (prices are as of today, could change but wanted to give context) All in all, a meal we will never forget! Recommend if you're in the area!
Michelle S — Google review
Starters and main dishes were really amazing for me (5/5) I had crab accras and the lotte fish dish. For dessert I had the chocolate terrine and I didn't really enjoy it (2/5) although very well prepared it didn't match my taste. Given that, my partner had the apple and caramel tiramisu and loved it.

Fish restaurant
Le Chalut is a renowned restaurant in Saint-Malo, offering inventive Breton cuisine with a focus on local, seasonal ingredients. The elegant venue features pastoral murals and provides a warm atmosphere for a romantic dining experience. Specializing in fresh seafood from local waters, including roasted sole, marinated monkfish, and scallops, this Michelin-starred gourmet fish restaurant also offers some unique daily catches.
Wonderful experience! The menu was exceptionally made for us on request. Fresh an quality food very well prepared. The service was carefully made with explanations about the dishes and a lot of attention. Thank you to the two owners and the staff ! I highly recommend
Nicolas G — Google review
Le Chalut provides an excellent dining experience, all local seafood paired with all local vegetables, herbs, fruits, and flowers. Tastes were all exquisite and well-matched. One note: a reservation apparently is an absolute must, which we found to be a bit of a logistical challenge until our hotel finally was successful in getting in touch. If you’re already in St-Mało a day or two before, easiest may be to stop by and make a reservation in person!
Basia G — Google review
Naturally when in France, eating in a Michelin Starred restaurant is a must. This was no exception and we are so glad that we made a reservation here. From the service during reservation, to welcome and through the whole evening the service was impeccable. The food, a different level and amazing. Simply amazing. Bravo to the chef and his wife who delivered it with outstanding service. Definitely recommended and will sure be back when in town again.
Hayden — Google review
It was all of the Michelin ⭐️ experience that you could want! There was a 3 or 4 course choice menu and optional cocktails and wine pairing. Such a beautiful evening. She explained every course and each was so unique from the area.
Kate M — Google review
You don't have to trust other people's verdict on the food because we all have different taste at the time. But just look at the food if you could and it was a feast! The service was great and you also get mini dishes between the dishes that we ordered so it was really almost too much to eat. Don't order a lot if you're not hungry! Will def recommend it to anyone. Enjoy!

What a great spot. So much attention to detail. Only the freshest and in season ingredients. The best seabass I ever had, but that is only one of many dishes, all great!

We brought a group of 45 Catholic pilgrims to 75th of D-Day and Shrines of France. We stopped in this town for three hours of free time. We chose Le Chalut because it was quaint and out of the way and a good menu. We were not disappointed and I’m convinced French food is the best! The seafood was excellent, the service was exceptional and we loved every minute of it and can’t wait to come back.

Nestled in the charming city of Saint-Malo, La Fourchette à Droite is a contemporary bistro that invites you to indulge in inventive seasonal cuisine. The restaurant, run by the warm-hearted duo Caroline and Etienne Corson, showcases the best of local ingredients with dishes like gravlax of monkfish infused with seaweed and delectable scallops paired with various squashes. For dessert lovers, their soft apple treat topped with almond crunch and cider caramel is a must-try!
We have travelled from Santander through the Pyrenees and up to St Malo - staying in 5☆ hotels all the way. But this meal was the best! Fairly limited menu, which means every dish is exquisitely prepared and delicious 😋. Also, very good value for money. We would recommend it 👌.

Dinner at La Fourchette à Droite in Saint-Malo was an absolute delight. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, and full of flavor, with every course exceeding expectations. The service? Flawless — attentive, friendly, and perfectly timed. It’s rare to find a place where both cuisine and hospitality reach such a high standard, but here they do. Probably one of the best restaurants in Saint-Malo — a must-visit if you want to enjoy the city at its finest!

My favourite restaurant in the city of St Malo. This is one of the finest dining experiences I have ever had and I was absolutely amazed by the quality of the food and drink. The menu is sourced locally with seasonal variety of the products in season. The menu is superb with lots of choices, great wine list and excellent service. The tuna was the best I have ever tasted and the dessert was just unbelievably good. An apple tart with salted caramel. I could not recommend this restaurant enough and it was good value for the quality and service

This is a great little family run restaurant. The menu is more limited then the bigger restaurants in St Malo, but every course was delicious and beautifully presented. They made adaptations to suit a gluten free diet. The service was great, very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended. Best to book in advance
