Great Forest Park, also known as the lungs of Debrecen, is a vast green oasis offering a peaceful escape with its tree-filled landscapes, lake with fountains, and woodland walks. It's an ideal spot for leisurely strolls, picnics, and various sports activities. The park is home to the University of Debrecen, botanical gardens, and even a thermal bath for relaxation. Visitors can easily reach it by tram from the city center or train station.
Went in June to this place, lovely around, surprisingly good urban garden, for a walk or go off grid and enjoy nature. Suitable for kids playground and adult chilling’ .

Peaceful woodland park, with a small lake, lots if forest trails to explore, fish & ducks along with a small amphitheater and some statues dotted around. Located nearby the university campus. Busy on the weekends with families and students. Wonderful spot with fresh air and greenery.
In my opinion this is the best part of Debrecen. In one park you have everything you can imagine- aqua park, shops, restaurants, tower, zoo and university. Picturesque park to walk around with a pond that has amazing fishes and turtles.
Access is easy but not so much parking. We were lucky to find a place to park in the underground parking garage.

Such an amazing park! Landscaped to perfection and very well looked after! It was nice having a stroll around, but many people and locals were also sitting on benches and on the grass. In fact, there were so many people just on a mid-of-week spring late afternoon. Would definitely recommend a walk in the area when in Debrecen.
Perfect park I have seen. It's like an matryoshka, one park within the other, side by the forest and closer to the university! Relaxing & enjoying the sunshine, watching the fishes, ducks and fountains! It's also a park near the concert place!
If you visit Debrecen you must visit this park. It's just beautiful, calm, relaxing but full of People. You can go during the morning or during the night, it's alawasy beautiful! The most beautiful part of Debrecen is that it's full of nature, from the airport till this beautiful park.

Aquaticum Mediterrán Élményfürdő is a laid-back thermal spa hotel with indoor and outdoor hot tubs, a water park, and dining options. The facility includes a hotel, thermal bath, sauna, beach area for the outside water park, and an indoor waterpark. While the outdoor section is only open from late June or early July onwards, it's definitely worth visiting during the summer months. Visitors can enjoy numerous pools with warm water and lush greenery indoors.
Sorry for the lack of pictures, this is only the entrance. I love this place i have such fond childhood memories of it! The climate is so warm and nice, the plants are beautiful and dreamy creating a lovely atmosphere. The pools are great and the slides are very fun as well. This place us definitely worth the price, you could easily spend a fun afternoon here :)

Unfortunately this place stood in time from like 2015.. there is no maintenance, lots of doors and things are broken, the restaurant is a joke, the coffee was literally some awful water.
The bathrooms are very very dirty!!! The pools are dirty, they don’t really clean the floors neither.
Also, many jacuzzis, showers and stuff was not working. At least they have nice plants!
Its really a kids place or some rehabilitation place, nothing in between.
Don’t pay for the sauna’s, its in the basement, super small places full of people and disgusting arrangements!!! And of course the real sauna places are not included in the already paid sauna world?!? Come on! Never coming back here.
Best hotel in Hungary. In and outdoor thermal baths. Slide and pool park for kids. Outside thermal baths in large park with special pool for children.
A wonderful place to relax and warm up in the thermal pools during winter, when it’s snowy and freezing outside. It’s a cozy and peaceful spot where everything feels calm and pleasant. There are many different baths and pools, as well as a small water park, jacuzzi, and more.
This place is quite good however there are some bad thins about it. We had to wait over an hour to pay and get in the aquapark. Changing rooms and lockers were good. Had hairdryers and showers but there floor everywhere has mysterious spots of different things. Inside it was great. All slides were working pretty safe as long as you dont run. One of the pools had waves sometimes go off. Food was a total nightmare. We have to stand in a long line for over 30 minutes. Probably way over an hour and by the time we got our food, it was still hot surprisingly. All workers were super kind. Overall not too bad but would make some improvements.
Hungarian restaurant with in a refurbished older building. They made it nice, but still and older building. When you travel here you should do it because of the wonderful hot spa and water they have in house
Very nice kids area with a lot of possibilities for families with smaller children up to teens, also a nice comfortable bar area with very price worthy cocktails and drinks for the parents.
Excellent spa/aqua park, it has dozens of pools and water slides suitable for all ages: babies, kids, teens, adults, elderly, everyone. Extremely family friendly.
Includes a restaurant inside so you can easily spend the whole day inside the aqua park without needing anything else.
Has a lot of sunbeds everywhere. A lot of the pools have warm water (30-36c), the jacuzzies hot water (38c).
Beautiful and renovated swimming pool in Debrecen. We paid approx. 43€ per family per day for the outdoor and indoor swimming pool. There are plenty of snacks at affordable prices. We will definitely return there with the children. There is also underground parking 400ft/hour.

The Reformed Great Church of Debrecen, a grand neoclassical Protestant church built in 1824, stands as the symbol of the city. It is situated in the bustling city square, surrounded by shops and restaurants. The church offers visitors a chance to explore its interior with stained-glass windows, pews, and an original 19th-century organ. For those unafraid of heights, ascending to the rooftop provides breathtaking views of downtown Debrecen.
Beautiful and historical cathedral in the city centre. I used my civil servant discount which makes it even better.
You can walk around and admire the interior, stained-glass windows, pews and alter. Or just have a quiet moment of contemplation and prayer.
Further upstairs there is the historical church bell and original timber roof. And at the rooftop you get magnificent sweeping views of downtown Debrecen. You can see the trams coming and going, the European architecture and people going about their business.
From outside the cathedral is magnificent. Amazing photo opportunities from close or faraway and there is a small park you can sit in and admire the architecture.

Nothing special inside the church. The best was Rakoczi bell and the view from the church tower. It seems not to be very popular, but I think it is nice to see it especially if you aren't protestant.
I have to say, it is very pretty from the outside, this iconic church is worth visiting, I went inside and went all the way up and I really liked it, there is an elevator for you to go up, but there's also stair, I wouldn't recommend them, friend and I decided to use those and regretted the entire time, just because they are pretty old and narrow, still, we had so much fun, and the views are amazing.
Also, the staff was really nice and gave us a couple of instructions for us to see the entire thing.
I have to mention, it is not free to visit the inside, but I can't remember how much it was, but I thing it wasn't really expensive and they accepted both cash and card.
For HUF 1200 entry you get to explore the church and take a lift up to a panoramic view of the city from the roof between the towers. Recommend taking lift up and stairs down. Check out the space above the ceiling. Something you don't often get to do.
Great cathedral with a panoramic view of the city up in the tower. Entrance is paid but good value for money, takes at least half an hour to explore and enjoy to the fullest.
Built at the beginning of the 19th century it's not that old but it's the most important cathedral for Reformed Magyars, the Counter-Reformation couldn't bring this community down and neither could the Communists
This place is located at the top of the main central promenade running through the city and is therefore the dominating feature. Unfortunately due to a musical event I wasn't able to go inside, however I took some nice exterior video and photos.
I was on holiday with my family and we visited this famous carneval what have been placed every year to celebrate of State Foundation Day.We really enjoyed a lot of entertainment and flower car.I highly recommend to everyone if you want to see something special.
The top most floor enables an all round view of the city centre from the terrace. It's got some really interesting pieces of art inside..
There's an entrance fee for tourists.
It's a highlight for the beautiful city that's Debrecen.

Grande Bosco Restaurant is a decent place with very nice and attentive staff. It's located close to the university and opposite the water tower, making it convenient for visitors. The restaurant offers high-quality, delicious, albeit expensive food. One visitor found it to be the only place with really good quality restaurants near the university. The meals are big and affordable, with standout dishes like onion soup and poppy dumplings in vanilla sauce.
After visiting several restaurants in our adventure of looking for a place without fries, this was the last place. The location is very close to the university and just opposite the water tower (observation tower). My boyfriend wanted to eat shrimp all day and we finally found it here by chance. Their food is really high quality and delicious as well as expensive. But I think they deserve it. It's the only place with really good quality restaurants close to the university I went to. Thank you! :)

I‘m really scared from this place!
Payment not possible due to high amount of customers, even with kids which wants to go home we should wait half an hour to pay.

Korzó Ételbár is a pleasant establishment to relax and enjoy coffee with friends. Although the food remains untried, the dessert is particularly delightful, especially when accompanied by luscious caramel and chocolate toppings. The outdoor seating offers a stunning view of the iconic Yellow church, which serves as a symbol of Debrecen.
Actually it's a nice place to sit with friends and have coffee. I didn't try food at this place..but the dessert. It was very delicious especially with the toppings of caramel and chocolate. If you sit outside, it has a very beautiful view of Yellow church which is kinda symbol of Debrecen. Recommended!!!

I lived in Debrecen for a year, and used to eat there a lot! There's not the best restaurant in the city, but has a good price, a great location, and has a menu with several options. Also, they're open for lunch and dinner :)
I tried a goulash soup. The soup taste was not good at all, the bread was stale, and the price was expensive than QR menu. The worst food I’ve ever tried in Hungary.

Never eat here! I ordered a red wine beef stew and it was my worst food experience ever. The beef was way too fatty without red wine sauce! I couldn’t eat it and it gave me a huge stomach ache . The Service was nice at least.

What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get at the table which is amazing. 😌 We enjoyed the food in a central location of Debrecen. I ordered a Caesar salad with shrimps, 🥓🍤🍤🥗very tasty but I would recommend giving up the mayonnaise sauce on the lettuce, for my taste it was quite heavy and maybe some lemon would be fresher. 😊
Highly recommend the lemonade, it’s good and fresh. I would go back If I ever visit Hungary again. 💛
Service was beautiful very kind and helpful however the food that we ordered was a fish and fruiti di mare for 4 but the portion that they served us was no where near what we expected and was maybe enough for a 2 person entré.
6 prawns, 1 tiny Branzio fillet, 1 Salmon steak and just a few grilled squid, which I'd no where near enough for 4 people.
Excellent food, everything was very tasty. They have a huge selection of local and international wines. I came here a couple of times and was never disappointed. Tried the shrimps, Mediterranean chicken and the pork tenderloin. Crème brûlée had a big layer of caramel and light vanilla cream. It’s my favorite restaurant in Debrecen!
This place has some of the best Italian food I've ever had! And to top it all off, the wait staff is very kind and helpful. If you have a craving for Italian food this needs to be at the top of your list while visiting Debrecen.
High quality food and the service is excellent. Although, I rated with 4 starts because it is expensive and they will charge you an excessive 12% tip (it is mentioned in the menu). Also, atmosphere should be calmer in my opinion.
Even if you came for a walk in Debrecen, this the place is a must. They have very good food and drinks. They have Hungarian and international cuisine. The menu is also in English.

The desserts were a real treat, particularly the Rákóczi-style crêpe, which was light, sweet, and topped with fluffy meringue. Highly recommended!

A beautiful hotel in the middle of a small forest/garden.
The place is fairly quiet and the staff are more than ok, as you can see, I was given some sweets on top of my pillows 😊
Reliable wifi, many choices for breakfast and free parking!
My main issue with the hotel was that it had way too many mosquitoes in there!! Just in the room itself I've killed 6 or 7 of them.
When I suggested "put on nets" The response was along the lines of "we're in the forest so that's ok"
Amazing local food with good prices and a lovely atmosphere. The drinks selection was also wide, also with very reasonable prices. I would highly recommend a walk around the park and coming to eat afterwards. I had the catfish stew with dumplings and the sweet cheese pancakes, which were both delicious. Delightful restaurant.
Great atmosphere and really good food overall. Most of the time, the staff is fine, but we did have a hiccup when they forgot to bring my wife's soup—we had to ask about it, and by the time it came, mine had already gone cold. Still, a nice place with potential for better service consistency.
I think it's one of the best restaurant in town in terms of food and locations. They have a car park for customers only, which is a huge plus. Food and the service was spot on. Highly recommended! 🙂

The food was absolutely amazing, everything was according to my taste, and the portions were big but not too big (unlike other Hungarian restaurants). The staff was nice and they gave us enough space to enjoy our meal and have conversations.
I can only recommend it, and I will 100% be back!
Food is ok 👌, but the chicken without any taste.
Prices are very high. Big time for order and the parking place is hard to find.

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Debrecen Plaza, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Calico Jack Pub. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Debrecen Plaza is a long-standing shopping destination in the heart of Debrecen, Hungary. Since its opening in 1998, it has been a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. The plaza offers three levels of shops, services, eateries, as well as entertainment options like a cinema and bowling alley. Unlike many malls, Debrecen Plaza is spacious and modern with a clean and pleasant atmosphere.
I visited recently and I was pleased with the shopping centre. Nice and clean, lots of shops, cinema and one of the best Exchange in town.

Small but clean and elegant. It has a great Aldi shop, Pepco and other nice shops. In the Christmas, there's a lot of people selling souvenirs and handicrafts.
In general, it's good.
Really impressed by the ongoing renovations—since the remodeling, the place feels much more alive and modern. The shops are generally okay, though a few seem a bit out of place. The fixed parking fee regardless of time is a bit annoying, but you can get the first hour free if you shop at Aldi or go to the cinema, which is a nice touch.
This is a nice plaza situated in the center of the city, you can find a lot of things in there such as cinema, bank, aldi grocery and other clothing and phone shops in it. Nice plaza to shop in.!
Most of the European brands are available. Affordable and good quality.
If the cinema is busy you cannot get out from parking, when you reach the gate you have to go back to automat to pay additional fax because you did not left the parking after initial payment. The toilets is also paied..
The only place we found Nespresso capsules, on Saturday late afternoon.

The Déri Museum, situated in a neo-baroque 1920s building near the Great Church in Debrecen, is a small yet captivating museum. It houses diverse collections including art, archaeological findings, and ethnographic displays. Notable attractions include paintings by renowned Hungarian-French artist Mihaly Munkacsy.
My absolute favourite place, takes me more than 3 hours to go through all the exhibitions. Very interesting and informative, especially loving the Munkacsy paintings. The staff is knowledgeable and so kind, they know when to step on if you have any questions, and the last part where they are showing the 1944 bombing made me very emotional.

The Déri Museum in Debrecen offers a carefully curated journey through death, memory, and contemplation. The Egyptian section explores funerary rituals in depth, especially the mummification process: removal of internal organs, desiccation with natron, ritual bandaging, and protective amulets. Immediately afterward, the Japanese gallery provides a sharp, intentional contrast. Here, death is not denied but accepted as part of life's transient flow. The ambient sound — minimal music with a shishi-odoshi-style ticking — creates a meditative, timeless space.
The Hungarian painting hall (late 19th to early 20th century) features compelling works, especially with horses and natural settings. However, many paintings are displayed in dim lighting, and descriptions are often missing in English, making the experience harder for international visitors.
The emotional and spiritual peak is the Passion Trilogy by Mihály Munkácsy. In Ecce Homo, Pilate presents the scourged Christ to the crowd — a moment of theological intensity and moral judgment. In the final scene, the Crucifixion, the key traditional figures appear: Mary, John, Mary Magdalene, and Roman soldiers. Munkácsy turns the canvas into a true moral theatre, rich in pathos and layered interpretation.
Highly recommended for visitors seeking depth, not just display.
Although relatively small, this museum is a gem. Here you can see beautiful paintings, old prehistoric artifacts, Japanese art, old traditional Hungarian objects, different biological exponents and so on.
Some very interesting exhibits with nice touch of the floors and walls modelled according to the theme. Didn't take many photos because security guard stayed 2 metres away in most interesting exhibit. Beautiful grounds and building.
I don't know why but I imagined this museum would be a little below par...how wrong was I?! It's a brilliant little museum! The exhibits are really well displayed and offer good descriptions that are not too long so they don't become laborious to read and follow. This is the "must see" museum if you're visiting this city. No only a beautiful building but an interesting assembly of both works of art and ancient cultural artifacts. This place exists thanks to the beneficence of Frigyes Deri who in 1920 donated his lifelong collection to the State.
The museum exhibits his particular interest of Egyptian, Samuri and 15th to 18th Century Christian European artefacts. The paintings are organised into groups reflecting common characteristics; Portraits, Landscapes, Still Life.
I found the supplementary exhibition regarding Hungarian ancient beliefs concerning death, burial and the afterlife particularly interesting. It's displayed in a darkened room with gentle mystic music playing in the background.
Perhaps the good weather had deterred people from spending time inside. It was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.

What I liked more is the Ancient Egyptian civilization part. We studied this civilization at the University, so it is nice to see what aspects we studied in real life🥰 agents and workers there are super nice to international students and they speak English

This theatre is beautiful, chairs are comfortable and the staff's attitude is kind.

Strongly suggest to come and visit this restaurant if you are from abroad (or even from other part of Hungary) and fancy some real Hungarian cuisine. Strongly advise to book a table a couple of days before the visit especially if you are planning to do it over the weekend.

I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. The food is fantastic, prepared with top-notch ingredients, and the portion sizes are perfect after a day of sightseeing. Chose this hotel for the wellness facilities that were included in the price of a standard room. Went there with my wife and our toddler.
At the hotel saw we don't have slippers; found out we have to pay for them. I don't think is is clearly described on booking.com, the emphasis is on the 'free wellness'. Called the reception and asked for slippers, we were told we have to go to the reception to collect them...
Bought the slippers and went to the wellness area. Our room was at the 2nd floor, the wellness area at the 3rd floor. The elevator on that side of the hotel was out of order, therefore had to use the stairs. Wearing only the bathing suits, robes and the slippers. Which is not ok, after bathing, for a toddler.
There were 2 saunas within the wellness area - one was out of order, the other one was reserved for a "ceremony" until 7pm.
When coming back from the wellness area, we saw our neighbors from two nearby rooms are quite noisy. Went out for dinner and when came back the noise was even worse. The kid had to sleep, so went to the reception and found out there was a private party in the hotel and those guests from the two nearby rooms are probably attending the party. We asked to get another room, without having to move our things that evening and they accepted - this is the only positive aspect here. But, why would you put the private party guests nearby a room with a toddler in the first place?!
The new room had slippers and toiletries (which were missing from the initial room as well). Initial thought was this might not be a standard room, but a better one. When checking out we were told the rooms were the same price and type. So, why asking money for the slippers then?!
To conclude - no sauna, no elevator, no slippers, no silence, not coming back.
PS breakfast was modest.
A decent and clean hotel with a buffet breakfast and dinner option. The room we stayed at is spacious, bright and the colours of the bedroom accessories are lovely and well fitting together in harmony, giving you a cosy feeling. The bed is a king size bed and super comfy.
The air con was much appreciated and had no problems with it’s working conditions. The standard rooms don’t come with a balcony, but even though we haven’t had the best of views, there was a little table with a couple chairs outside our room. They have a swimming pool/wellness area although not too big, but it is quite refreshing.
Although we only stayed a couple nights, they changed our towels without us asking for it, tidied our bed and emptied and sanitized our bins as well. The TV was not in working condition, but we didn’t want to use it anyway. There’s a nice big desk in the room which allows two people to sit there if they wish to do so.
The bathroom is also quite spacious, there is a provision of hand soap via a dispenser and same goes for the shower gel.
The breakfast is generous, there’s a machine for soft drinks and coffee as well bottled sparkling and still water available.
The reception staff is polite, however we had to wait more than 15 minutes at the time of checking out to be attended to.
Altogether it is quite a good value for money.
The shower drain does not drain water. Experience the water park. There are shower curtains, but you couldn't stop the water park. ㅋㅋ The drain is very old and outdated. Swimming facilities were not good. The water temperature is not set. When we first checked in, they said that parking was free and that it was included in the hotel price, but we paid the parking fee when we checked out. Breakfast is not fresh and service is slow. It is not a 4 star hotel. Cheap amenities. i saw A cheap shampoo bottle. diluted in water; Worst 4 star hotel in Hungary.
Very nice hotel, very good value for money! Was very pleasantly surprised how much they took care of health and safety in these times. Even at the breakfast they payed attention to serve you instead of letting everyone breath and touch all the foods. The wellness part is quite good, the rooms are very clean and big with a huge bed. The reception was extremely nice and very accommodating. Was the nicest hotel experience I had in a long time.

I just dined at the restaurant. After I placed my order, I noticed that I have been charged more than the rates in the price list. i thought they took my order wrong because the receipt was not itemised. Therefore, I asked for the reason and I have been told that prices are not updated in the list. They haven't even apologised for the inconvenience. I call this simply "theft". I will never come to this place again. I found them extremely impolite and this is definitely not acceptable. The food was okay tho.

Nestled just a stone's throw from Debrecen's iconic Great Church, IKON Restaurant and Lounge stands out as a must-visit dining destination. Three or four times a year I visit this place in Debrecen. And the food has never disappointed me, ever.

-Duck liver with some apple dreams and it was unbelievable! (5 stars)
- This is the best Goulash you can have in Debrecen, and believe me I tried many places there.
- Mangalica tenderloin was smooth and creamy
The service had been improving during my visit, really. I arrived around opening so the boys had to warm up I guess... :)
BUT the music... man, how could such a place play a radio channel or internet radio channel, I wonder? In high-end places the music is usually a playlist suits the intended interior and approved by professionals. Anyways the music took away from the atmosphere for me.
Overall IKON shouldn't be measured by high-end restaurant standards but as a reliable bistro of delicious traditional Hungarian food in Debrecen!
And by these measures you will not be disappointed but pleasantly satisfied.

I visited IKON restaurant in Debrecen couple months ago, invited by a friend. The restaurant was quite empty during our visit.
The interior was a bit disappointing. The design felt dull and didn’t create the kind of atmosphere I would expect from a higher-end restaurant. It wasn’t uncomfortable, but it definitely didn’t match the standard I had hoped for.
The food was decent but not exceptional. I don’t remember exactly what I ordered, but the dishes were a bit oily and not to my taste. The dessert, however, was a highlight— the chocolate cake was really good and the best part of the meal.
Overall, the experience didn’t meet my expectations, and I’m unlikely to return based on this visit. While the food and ambiance were okay, they didn’t quite stand out.
Good place but maybe it takes time for my colleague and myself to make decision about what to eat, so the waitress is not that patient. The food is okay but with small portions of lamb.
Their cheapest wine (indigo szekszard zweigelt) was very nice. The free appetizer (homemade bread and truffle butter) was nice too. The catfish with mushroom paprikash and gnocchi was great too, the mushrooms were the highlight, but the catfish was nice too. The Mont Blanc desert was beautiful and a good choice, chestnut based but many flavors.
The food wasn’t bad but everything about the restaurant was underwhelming. The food and the atmosphere. This place didn’t meet my expectations. I do not recommend the duck liver.
At Ikon, the culinary experience was outstanding. We delved into their new menu and were thoroughly impressed. Starting with the salmon appetizer, moving onto the flavorful pork main, and concluding with the delectable cheese dumplings—it was a taste sensation. Meanwhile, my partner savored the lamb shank, followed by a divine chocolate fondant. While reminiscing about previous visits, we did miss the duck liver from the menu.
Initially, the service stumbled as we were seated in the back, making it difficult to request bread and water. Moreover, there was a charge for bread, which hadn't been the case before. However, we kindly brought these issues to their attention, and to their credit, they swiftly rectified the situation. It's always gratifying to see a business respond positively to feedback, and Ikon certainly did. Five stars for their exceptional cuisine and commendable service recovery.
I was there last week, and I've been there before as well. Both times I visited, the place was really quiet. I don’t like the interior of the place; in my opinion, it's just not nice, although the staff were friendly. However, I do appreciate the quality of the food, which you can rarely find in Debrecen.
What a disappointment. Such a neat place with fantastic service, everything about this restaurant states quality at first. The starters are exquisite, ao are the desserts, but the main courses are nothing short of embarrassing. There is a huge dissonance between the different stages of the meal, as the first dishes and the desserts are absolutely brilliant but the main dishes that we ordered were comprised of over-cooked pasta that seemed as if a child prepared it (basic tomato sauce, 4 boiled shrimps as if straight from the supermarket) and a bulgur garnish that I simply cannot explain how distasteful it was - nothing about it was pleasant to one's palate.
Won't come back, simply does not worth the high prices.

Debrecen Zoo and Amusement Park is a small yet well-designed zoo located in the middle of a forest. The entrance fee is budget-friendly, and the animals are well taken care of. In addition to the zoo, there's an amusement park adjacent to it, making it a complete family destination. However, during winter, some animals may not be as visible, and the amusement park is closed.
Is really nice with lots of animals too see.
Unfortunately we couldn't see them all, because mose of them in the winter time are in-house, but overall very nice.
Worth it for a day to have a nice walk.

Best zoo in Hungary - lots of nature (trees and forest paths to keep you cool in the hot days), with plenty of seats to rest when needed; you get quite close to the animals (when possible); interactions with birds and others; you can purchase feed for some and go in to feed them. Animals seem in good shape and happy, too. It's beautiful!!!
I loved that it was quiet. So families could enjoy it at their own pace and have a clear view of the animals. But their could be more in between the zoo in my opinion. The amusement park area needs a bit of love but the kids had a decent enough time. Nite even if you by the ticket that includes the amusement area ( this is only for entry) you still have to buy tickets for the rides you want to take
Nice zoo, kids park is adjacent to it and rides costs separately so be prepared. I think the zoo would be better if they offered one package which includes the kids rides even if it means higher prices, but to each their own. Still a good place to plan family activities.

We were impressed! More than we expected! So many different animals that I couldn’t see somewhere else. I loved the giraffe, hippos, red panda, zebras, monkeys and other animals. Felt a bit bad for the tigers tho.
Super sweet zoo in Debrecen with lots of cute animals and caring staff. We would return anytime 🙂 especially loved the giraffes, the penguins and the little monkies! Rabbits are so sweet too.
It is an adventure park next to the zoo, also worth to see it.

Brilliant with kids. This was the best on our week.
It is a really nice place to visit, not just for kids, sometimes parents are enjoying more than kids. :D So many experiences to try, definitely a nice program over the weekend. There are also free workshops, you have to pre-register on their website to see robots, 3D printers and automated stuff, good experience for everyone from 5 years to 99.
Everything is tourist friendly bilingually explained (hungarian/english) interactive experiments/displays, except the scheduled screenings...please translate these also.

Applying to the University of Debrecen was a big step for me, and I honestly don’t know how I would’ve managed it without the incredible support from the Regional Office in Debrecen and Ms. Laiba especially. From the very beginning, they were helpful, responsive, and incredibly kind. They guided me through every part of the application process—explaining the requirements clearly, helping with document preparation, and making sure I never missed a deadline.
What truly made a difference was the extra mile they went by offering preparatory classes. These sessions weren’t just helpful—they were essential. The instructors were knowledgeable and approachable, and the classes gave me a real head start in understanding the academic expectations at the university. It also gave me the chance to build confidence and connect with other students before the semester even started.
Thanks to the Regional Office, I felt supported every step of the way. Their dedication made the transition smoother and helped me start my journey at the University of Debrecen on the right foot.
Nice grounds to walk. I liked the architecture of the main building and the lawn area. Lots of statues, rest areas, campus buildings, couple of cafes too. Large park nearby and a tram stop too.
The university is amazing either as a location or its education system. I have been here for a month as a Ph.D Erasmus student from TUL, Cz to the Chemistry Department. My mentor, workers, all academic personnel are really nice, helpful and all the above, have the full knowledge. They all have their motivation and friendship among them. If I were to be chosen here first, for sure I would like to continue and live here, in the city. Maybe it's not correct to compare with the TUL, there are not many restrictions to the lab which is the most important thing if you have to work in the lab. The university, menza, location, Hungarian ppl, city, everything about here I love it. I am sorry to say that but except for their dormitories. Rest is great for temporary students. If you are a permanent student, it's a bit of a difficult dorm condition.. I'll tell you about it in their comment section ;)
An amazing building, especially at night!
It looks majestic, and they say the library inside it is awesome; I haven't been there before.
For any visitor to Debrecen, it's 100% a must to come here and enjoy the place.
We came as tourists, just to see the impressive building, because there is not much to do in Debrecen. I think it's a great thing to do if you're here, and from the university you can continue to the nice park nearby.
Very nice and big medical school.
A large campus and excellent faculty are the great pride of this school. In addition, the doctor's license obtained after graduation is recognized in many countries including Europe.

St. Anne's Cathedral, an 18th-century Catholic church showcasing twin bell towers and intricate baroque embellishments within, is a must-visit religious site. Situated alongside the Synagogue, Greek Orthodox Church, and Red Church, it stands as one of many places of worship worth exploring. Named after its primary benefactor Frigyes Deri, a Hungarian textile manufacturer and collector, the Deri Museum housed within offers captivating exhibits dedicated to the Far East as well as wildlife and nature.
Typical baroque Catholic church dating from the 18th century with additions from the 19th (the two towers) and the 20th (the entrance). It seems recently they did some revamping because it looks brand new and it's quite enjoyable inside.

The core architectural style of this beautiful Catholic Cathedral is 18th Century Baroque. I wasn't expecting it to be open when I passed by on Saturday, but the opening hours are incorrectly shown by Google, I've submitted updated opening times.
Beautiful Frescos on the ceiling and many ornate shrines/altars along either aisle. Someone was playing the organ when I visited which was very nice to hear. Definitely worth a visit.
In Debrecen, everyone know about the Great Reformed Church, but not many know about this one. I recommend paying it a visit :))

PepePanini is a self-service coffee shop situated on the main campus of a university. Upon entering, one's initial impression may not be favorable, but the ambiance, music, and relaxed atmosphere quickly change that perception. The walls are adorned with inspirational figures, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal. Outside seating is available under umbrellas for those who prefer it. The classic lemonade and Americano drinks offered are decent in quality.
A popular spot in Debercen amoung university students especially it's in a very good location. Usually crowded and busy. Nice management. They recently added an automatic order point/machine inside.

Wonderful, friendly place, great coffee, excellent food. Staff very welcoming of people who speak little Hungarian. After a day they recognized me and brought me my orders personally. They will prepare food and drinks however you want them. Varried, attractive menu for coffee, other drinks, food and deserts. Sit inside or outside, cosy and air conditioned.
It's a self service coffee shop which is located on the university main campus.
My first impression was not that favorable, but when I entered, honestly I changed my mind. I like the ambiance, musical, and chilling. The walls are decorated by inspiring ppl. They have outside seats under an umbrella if you prefer.
I had an classic lemonade and Americano. They were pretty ok.
The only negative is smelling fried foods.
It deserves a chance to try ;)

Exactly what the name suggests 40 ISH types of pancakes.
As they are produced in advance then reheated and served they are as you would expect.

We visited this place while we were staying for a week in Debrecen in a hotel nearby. The restaurant is in a walking square neighboring other small shops, not so far from the bustling center of the city, but still rather quiet. It was such a pleasant surprise that they offered a great variety of food, sweet or savory, salty options, in rather large portions for a surprisingly great value and they also offer takeout. I can only recommend visiting this restaurant at least once while you're staying in Debrecen.
The gyros tal I got was not worth for its price.

Awesome place and delicious food - we have been in the city for a one day trip and saw this place just by accident and absolutely loved it. Great food, great ideas, great presentation & great staff. Can definitely recommend it. If you love palacsinta (flat pancakes), you must go here. We only tried the “non-sweet” ones, but the sweet ones looked awesome too. Oh, and it is rather cheap too :)

The price is very high. There is little food and it is not delicious! A total of more than a dozen pieces of meat are still fat, and the fat meat has not been handled well, which is very unpleasant. And that will take me 4000+ft.

The food tastes nice and well flavoured, although it costs way too much. Also the restaurant is very small and canteen like, with no service whatsoever.
The food comes from bags of food purchased from bibigo. They cut open the bag, heat, and serve. Everything was very low quality. Also it came with a side of cold rice. Cold rice! Just keep it in a rice maker with the warming function on. This place is a must miss. Also the side of kimchi we had to pay for was very sad. Enough for two bites. Incredibly disappointed.

The worst place you can visit in the campus, their kimbaps are okay but other food options are super overpriced and not authentic at all. When we didn't see the fish cakes cut up in the Rabboki (normal in Korea), they said they did put fish cake "flakes" under the cheese (what?), and accused us for finishing them and telling them later (well our bad, we wouldn't have if we knew that they were flakes lol). Never going there again in my life, and I'm a bit offended as a Korean by their butchered food and service! Please waste your money on some place else.

Unfortunately not all employees are so great.
Rooms are great and clean. I know it’s hard, but you can hear every move in corridors or when you need to go to toiled during night.

It's a good spa in Debrecen and a good activity if you want to just relax in the warm, hot and cold waters of the spa. They have also a sauna(careful one of the saunas it's a naked sauna, they gave you a sheet, but that gets wet really fast). The service is not so great, there was only one lady who served at two counters🙄, she didn't speak English, also the menu were only in Hungarian🙄they should really do something about this, because the communication was pretty bad.
Maybe we were a bit unlucky or maybe it's just always so bad.
We spent 1 night here and there was some music event outside - very loud music was playing until 4am!!! Very loud in the room even with all windows closed. Impossible to sleep.
On top of that the parking is a total mess. Very easy to get lost. But the worst experience was when trying to leave. Even tho we paid for the parking, the barrier wouldn't open. The parking guy told us we needed a stamp on our parking ticket which they didn't give us at checkout. That's a 15min walking roundtrip to the reception to get it. Such a waste of time.
Another thing is quite poor Air-conditioning in the room - very loud and it wasn't able to make the room temperature under 24 degrees (after full night running on max settings - very loud). It was a very hot day/night but still it shouldn't be the case.
Very good hotel! The rooms, the aqua park, the restaurant and the lobby are very nice. I would give it 10 stars from 5!

I was pretty disappointment about aquaticum aquapark, they didn't regulate enter anyhow, and there was no place to put down our towels, also food....we were waiting more than an hour in the line. Terrible experience...but except that aquapark is nice and clean
We appreciated the kindness of the staff, the delicios kitchen, the exemplary cleaning of the room and the beautiful thermal bath.
The atmosphere was a relaxant and pleasant one.
The food is pretty poor, both at breakfast and dinner. The free snack bar in the afternoon is a nice touch. The rooms looked tired and in need of renovation. The spa and waterpark help save the overall experience, but it’s certainly not the best value for your money.
Great place to go. Thermal water at every temperature. I highly recommend this hotel.

Round Forest Adventure Park, located within the Kerekerdo Recreational Park in Debrecen, Hungary, was established in 1995 by childhood friends Akos Kovacs and Bence Farkas. The park offers a sprawling area with various zones for physical activities and an artificial lake where visitors can enjoy catamarans and boats. It's a great place to spend 3-4 hours with options for dining and parking available.
The park itself is sprawling. There are several different zones, one of them is dedicated to physical activities. Some may say that it is an army style, but my child relished it. Helmets and protection gear are distributed for free. Also, there is an artificial lake, so catamarans and boats are offered to enjoy nature from the surface of the lake. In all, the park is good enough to spend 3-4 hours.

Petty to close so early and i can not give more stars due to the rudeness of the lady at the bar of the foto, telling us "ITS CLOSED" almost screaming when we came to ask for water at 17.40pm while the park was still open. Communist park, some things work, most of them not. Even the 5d cinema is a bad joke. They keep your children in Sun, stuff not there in time, they only say.... SOON... and SOON again... they not care of your kids. Not even a fresh paint. No ATM (with COINS), they say all things are included in ticket, but you have to pay for all most every thing... with hungarian coins.... but you cant find coins anywere!!!

We’ve visited this place for the escape room activity. First, they arrived late although it was nice that they apologised and offered us access to an additional escape room called the sauna. It was simple with not many clues and fairly easy to escape. As our main escape room, we’ve chosen the pharaoh themed one. It has three rooms you need to escape from. The first one has several clues and you need to collect 4 numbers that will open up the secret door. The room is spacious but the decor doesn’t have much to do with the pharaohs or ancient Egypt. Also, the items are pretty used and run down, one of which we were supposed to give us a number but it was broken so at the end they needed to gave us the number. And for another number we just guessed as we didn’t find the clue. The second room has a better design, it kind of looks like an ancient Egyptian burial chamber but again it looks very run down and many of the items in the rooms are broken and old. We needed a bit of help with this one but after that we quickly managed to open the door. The last room is not really a room and has nothing to do with ancient Egypt. It’s a small cell and all you need to do is put a few numbers on a phone and the cell door opens. We didn’t even need to search for clues and only needed 20 seconds to get out. And that’s all. Overall, I’ve found the experience pretty disappointing, the design of the place is pretty cheap and the clues you need to solve are either very simple or just not very logical. There were some times we didn’t understand why things opened. On a positive note, the staff was nice and served us some drinks during the activity. However, for the price we paid I’ve expected way more. I think you can find much better places for an escape room experience.
Great experience, kids were delighted! A lot of things for all ages. There is a restaurant there and a couple of fast food options also. Clean and big toilet. Parking is just 500 hfu per day.

I recently visited Station Bistro with a friend and had a disappointing experience due to unfair pricing practices. According to their website, 1 hour of billiards costs 3200 HUF, but we were charged 4400 HUF at the end. Additionally, I ordered a whisky and cola (1500 HUF), and my friend had a drink worth 650 HUF. However, the total bill came to 8640 HUF, which included a service charge of 2120 HUF—more than the cost of the drinks themselves.
This pricing is not only misleading but also violates consumer rights under Hungarian law. According to Act CLV of 1997 on Consumer Protection, businesses must provide transparent and accurate pricing information. The excessive service charge and inflated billiards fee are unjustified and do not align with the advertised prices. Such practices are unacceptable and harm customer trust.
I urge the management to review their pricing policies and ensure compliance with consumer protection laws. Until then, I cannot recommend this establishment.

Its one of the most amazing bowling station in Debrecen. We had such a great experiences there! Most of the time, when thinking about playing pool or bowling, it’s the first place that pops up in mind! It’s like the top of the list. Thank you!
Staff are not kind at all. Personally requesed twice from manager a burger without cheese and he somehow ignored me. Waited 20 minutes for the meal and extra 10 minutes to argue with the manager it's cheese and not "sauce". He simply refused to take responsibility. Staff in general were very unfriendly for tourists. In regards to biliard, table, balls and stick are very old and poor quality. Cheap service for cheap price.

The Apollo Cinema, situated at 1 Miklos Street in Debrecen, Hungary, has been a significant cultural establishment since its opening in 1912. Despite its smaller size, the cinema offers a well-balanced selection of cultural events, artistic films, classics screenings and mainstream blockbusters. Renovated over the years, it remains centrally located and provides a more intimate movie experience with better prices.
Great choice of movies. Many interesting meetings with directors and actors, producers. Most of the movies are in vo. I love the multilingual film weeks. Ticket prices are unbeatable and such a lovely staff from the guys in the ticket office to the ladies at the cinema halls entrance. Always kind, friendly, smiling. One feels at home.

This building survived for more than 114 years. Debrecen's only art cinema. The neon tube lighting above the main entrance is interesting. Upon entering, the smell of cinema and buttered popcorn hits you. By the end of the movie, her scent will surely permeate your clothes. It's okay, the main thing is that you had a good time.

Its a small theater for those who don't like the overly crowded movie experiences.
Though the number of showings is fewer and the selection of movies played a bit more limited, they found a good balance between cultural events, artistic films, classics screenings and the usual big blockbusters that are released.
Due to its size the prices are also better.
Online seat reservation and ticket purchase are both available.

Very quiet environment, had a great experience watching the movie here! There’s also sweet popcorn to enjoy during the show, I can say it’s the only one cinema in Debrecen that has this tasty popcorn 🍿😋
Visited it for Star Wars which was in English, had a pleasant experience after pre-booking the tickets online. The popcorn was nice👍 Would 100% recommend
P.S. they only have a salty one though(( where is the sweet popcorn? I need it in my life again!!
A cozy little cinema in downtown. Prices are almost half of Cinema City but the service is the same. Pre booking is available so you don't have to worry about not getting a ticket.

Very interesting history museum on Debrecen and Hungary. The library and building are fascinating but it is the history of Hungary, well captured in the exhibits on display, that make this a museum worth visiting.
It was a very good place to visit!!
At the museum there was not a lot of people to welcome you in and show you where to go, we came one hour after the opening, we paid for the tickets and then we just went where ever we wanted and accidentally entered the actual college where the students learning
We found someone who finally opened for us doors that lead us to the actual rooms of the museum.
In addition nothing was written in English, only when we saw that man who opened for us the doors he gave us few pages with explanation.

Flaska Vendéglő, also known as the Beer Cellar at the Flask, is a historic private restaurant that has been serving traditional Hungarian cuisine for almost forty years. The menu features dishes like omelette Parisian with peach jam and burnt rum, Turoc cheese pork knuckle noodles, and regional flavors such as mangalitsa and polenta dumplings. The restaurant exudes a tavern atmosphere with a cellar ambiance, providing a taste of Hungarian hospitality.
The food was absolutely delicious.
The meat was so tender it practically melted off the fork, and the dessert was delightful. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Hungarian cuisine.

We found this place on the maps and we give a try, it was very good. We just order a chicken soup with bottle of water, but the soup was really good and tasty. We just checked the menu and so many options and traditional Hungarian food available there. We definitely visit again in the future. I can recommend everyone to try.
Lovely restaurant in the center of Debrecen serving traditional Hungarian food with a bit of a local twist to it.
It's located in a keller which gives it a nice vibe. While the staff had problems with English (and, I assume other languages apart from Hungarian) the menu has everything translated to English so it's very easy to bypass the language barrier and order your meal. Service was tops, quite fast even though they seemed to have many take away orders at the same time. Place seems to be very popular with locals so you might want to make a reservation for the evenings or for bigger groups.
The food is excellent, I've had many Hungarian dishes in different places and the taste of the bean soup still surprised me. Good beer on tap as well as a diversified drinks selection.
Friendly service, cozy underground setting, good prices and authentic local cuisine. Recommended for any visitors to Debrecen!
Went in a group of 5 and we ended up ordering a pretty diverse menu: gulas (beef), beef stew + potatoes, chicken + pasta and fish +chips (pics below).
The food was sensational!! No complaints. Cooked to perfection, the food was warm and fresh and the beer was cold!!
Service was prompt, they speak english and treat you with respect. Explain the menu and specials with ease. They are willing to modify anything on the menu.

Very nice basement Restaurant with lovely Service and delicious food. I had the mushroom soup as appetizer and as main dish the gratinated supreme chicken breast slices with tomato and mozzarella with spinach oil and garlic spiced wide noodles! Great! All the best from Switzerland🇨🇭

Perfect Hotel to stay in the centre of town. Rooms are huge with air con also there are balcony on every room. Bathrooms are spacious with a nice shower. Stayed in 2 different rooms during my time here and both where cleaned and made up to a high standard

Well, the hotel is nice, ipd but nice, just in the center of everything, train station 2 minutes of walk, but... if yiu need to pay for replacing your towels, and bo real parking in the hotel, so take in mind that is an issue..

Perfectly located in the centre of the city. Close to restaurants and the necessary shops to get your daily needs. If you have a car… It’s like playing Tetris during busy hours as there is no dedicated parking for the hotel.
I am a business traveller, I dont like to stay in this hotel anymore because: 1. They provide 1.5 liters of waterbottle for the entire stay eventhough staying for 4 nights , I find water as a basic service and I have stayed in other hotels in city of Debrecen and all of them had daily water replacement ( half liters per day) 2. The breakfast starts at 7am and that is a bit late for business traveller's, I have to be at my office at 8 and i am always in a hurry to have some breakfast to reach my office on time, today the door of the restaurant got stuck and did not open for 15minutes , I would have missed my bus if I waited longer. The room service and staff are fine but the hotel administration should focus more on customer comfort , it's a 3* hotel so please keep up your standards. It's my opinion , I would think once again before booking cebtrum again.
Exceptional compared to my experience in other similar rated hotels. Rooms are tidy, comfortable, furniture is beautiful. Staff is very kind and helpful. Must emphasize the range of choices at breakfast, never seen such before. Absolutely recommend.

Upon arrival, it might be wise to lower your expectations, but you will soon realize that you were mistaken. As soon as you step in and catch a whiff of the wood-burning pizza oven, you know you are in for a treat. The Roman-style pizzas are delectable, with a crispy exterior, soft interior, and flavorful sauce. The service is exceptionally friendly, and the overall experience comes at a very reasonable price.
Pizza pepronii was sooo goooood ate the whole thing, The best pizza i have ever eaten . The people there are very kind and helpfull.

Decent place to dine-in in good weather times. The service is good with kind waitresses.
Pizzas were made on spot, with fresh indrigents, tasted really good, staff were friendly, enviroment was really cosy, it's worth the visit.
Arriving to there we thought, maybe set the expectations a bit lower but god, were we wrong about that. As soons as we stepped in and smelled the wood burning pizza oven we knew, we are in a good place. Delicious pizza romana with crunchy outside, soft inside and great sauce. On top of that very friendly service. Overall a very good experience at a very modest price. Much better than some of the hyped (and often overpriced) ones in the city center. Make sure you go there.

The place is run by a couple, they are very accommodating and friendly, the pizza looks and tastes authentic, they have a pizza oven the guy makes pizza in, it takes a bit of time, but you can smell it and it's well worth the wait . You can sip some Birra Peroni or Birra Moretti, among others, while your pizza is being prepared :) it's kind of far out from the city, but don't let it deter you from visiting them
