Bole Addis Ababa International Airport

3.9

International airport
Airport
Bole Addis Ababa International Airport is known for its ongoing improvements to enhance passenger experience, making it one of the busiest and favorite connecting airports in Africa. The airport features an airy design that allows ample natural light into the terminals, creating a pleasant ambiance. It offers world-class facilities, including clean and easy-to-navigate spaces with abundant recycling chairs at the gates. Additionally, Ethiopian Airlines provides hotel accommodations for passengers with layovers exceeding 8 hours.
Very organised, big and the staff quite helpful. I like organisation but last time I wanted to leave, my terminal had a few chairs because it was packed with a lot of other people waiting for a flight. Overall it's a modern airport with a lot of things going on. Impressive
Imran C — Google review
The airport is quite spacious and modern, especially the international terminal. It has a clean look with lots of natural light. Staff were generally helpful and polite, especially the Ethiopian Airlines ground crew. Transit for connecting flights was smooth and fairly efficient, which is a plus if you’re flying with Ethiopian Airlines. Free Wi-Fi is available, and though not super fast, it worked for basic browsing and messaging.
Yohannes Y — Google review
Addis Ababa Bole Airport serves as a major hub for travel in East Africa. Based on my recent experience, here's a quick breakdown: . No transit visa required for Indian citizens. · Neat and Clean: The airport is generally well-maintained. The main terminals and waiting areas are tidy, which makes for a pleasant transit or arrival experience. · Lots of Food Shops: Travelers won't go hungry. There is a wide variety of food and coffee shops, cafes, and snack kiosks, offering everything from quick bites to sit-down meals. · Can Be Crowded: As a primary international gateway, the airport is often very busy. Be prepared for potential queues at check-in, security, and immigration, especially during peak hours. Allowing extra time is highly recommended. · Currency: A key point for visitors is that many of the shops, especially duty-free and restaurants, list prices and prefer payment in US Dollars (USD). It's a good idea to have some USD on hand for convenience.
Pranav P — Google review
I used this for international transfer! The transfer, signage, staff support, ease of movement, time taken, mandatory security checks all were smooth and hassle free!! The cleanliness in the relevant terminal area was satisfactory. Lighting could be better. Many duty free shops with international and Ethiopian goods are there, but prices ? am not sure whether they are good or expensive. Many eateries are present. Toilets are clean and nice.
Alok M — Google review
Africa - ethopia Taking a transit and been to this country first time visit and even continent. Seeing different side of world, feels very differnt culture people and the airport. Experience something new Airport is small, we have transit from landing to the arrival gate via commuter bus. Apart from that it will have straight forward domestic or internal transfer. If we have long layover airlines will give a stay.
Amith R — Google review
To reach the boarding gate, passengers are required to remove their shoes twice, which seems excessive — especially considering how superficial the security checks actually are. It’s pure formality that adds no real safety, only inconvenience. The whole process feels chaotic and poorly organized. Business class lanes were closed with no explanation, and there was no priority service at all. The lounge was average at best, definitely not on par with what you’d expect for an international hub. Compared to the calm and efficient experience in Southern Africa, this airport is quite disappointing. However, to be fair, it might still be better than what you’ll find in parts of West Africa.
Chi — Google review
Big Airport Really Ethiopian Airlines is Africa Airlines controls and travel all Africa. The screen has only Ethiopian Airlines no other airlines Clean Organized Timing is sharp and good Free water 💦 🌊 Free recharge phones 🤳 Free Wifi 😀 😀 Wooooow The idea of each transfer has line on the floor is awesome 👍😎
Ibram M — Google review
Here's option 1 for your social media post about Bole Airport: --- Just passed through Bole Airport in Addis Ababa and was seriously impressed! This place is booming big, well-maintained terminal, super seamless transfers (even with long queues!), and tons of gates. Plus, great duty-free and food options. Only minor note? Restrooms get busy in the mornings. Definitely a top African airport!

Ethiopian restaurant
Immerse yourself in the vibrant heart of Addis Ababa at Yod Abyssinia Traditional Restaurant, where you can savor an authentic Ethiopian dining experience. This renowned establishment offers a beautifully designed atmosphere bustling with locals and visitors alike. Whether you're celebrating with a large group or enjoying an intimate family gathering, the attentive service enhances your visit.
What an experience last night at the Yod Abyssinia restaurant. You are greeted by a well designed layout of art and culture. The stage is positioned in a way that everyone can have a clear view of the stage and the performers. From the moment I walked into the restaurant, I was attended to by a host and a server. Once I placed my dinner order for the 1/2 kg goat platter, some was bringing me a bowl to wash my hands with soap and water. My drink came out fast and was that’s when the magic happened. For the next 1.5 hours, the crowd was treated to singing, dancing, instrumental sound and an experience. I was incredibly impressed and grateful to have coming to this wonderful establishment.
Sam R — Google review
An amazing experience! The food was exceptionally good with an outstanding variety of dishes – every bite was top-notch. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive, the place was clean, and the restrooms were well maintained. Small details like bringing a bowl for handwashing to the table really showed care for the guests. The atmosphere was elevated by beautiful live music and phenomenal dancing – the performers made a real effort to involve the audience, which made it even more engaging. There's also a souvenir shop on-site, which is a lovely touch to end the evening. While it’s a bit on the pricier side, the whole experience is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended!
Urban U — Google review
Quite an amazing place to enjoy traditional Ethiopian food with cultural and dance show at night. The atmosphere is very friendly and vibrant. The cultural show was very quite fascinating, while food was also good, though one can find better tibs at other places. But, overall, a very nice place to enjoy food, drinks and local songs and dances.

🌟 Abyssinia Yod Traditional Restaurant - Addis Ababa 🇪🇹 This was my third visit, and honestly… it never gets old. If you want to feel Ethiopia not just see it this is the place. The energy, the food, the people… it’s an experience that stays with you. 🍽 Food & Drinks: Let me just say it the injera here is the best I’ve ever had. Soft, fresh, full of character. The veggies, gravies, sauces each bite felt like a warm hug. I tried the fried goat, I’ll be honest, a bit on the chewy side for me. But everything else on that table made me forget it. And then came the coffee… my goodness! ☕ Strong, rich, almost magical. The kind of coffee that jolts you back to life and those popcorns on the side? A delightful touch. Add good wine, great company, and it was simply a night to remember. 💃 Entertainment: The dancers were phenomenal. Even as someone who’s not a big fan of Ethiopian cultural music I couldn’t help but smile, clap, and get drawn in. The passion, the joy… it’s infectious. You feel it in your bones. 👥 Service: The staff? Just lovely. Always smiling, always checking on us, always making sure we were happy. I really appreciated that. 💡 Ambience & Practicalities: ✨ The lighting was warm and inviting. ✨ I felt safe and comfortable all through the evening. ✨ We had a big table, seating was sorted, though yeah chairs could be a bit more comfy. ✨ Washrooms — clean, had tissue, but could definitely use a little love in terms of design or touch-up. 🚕 The place is a bit tucked away maybe not the easiest to walk to from the hotel, but cabs are easy to find. So no biggie. 💬 Final thoughts: Even if Ethiopian cuisine or cultural music isn’t your thing please don’t skip this place. The experience is 5⭐. It’s the kind of memory that defines your trip. Just fix up the toilets a bit, and maybe upgrade those chairs… otherwise, perfection. 👉 Tips for fellow travelers: 📌 Book ahead if you’re coming with a group — it can get busy. 📌 Come hungry. Come open-minded. 📌 Don’t rush off — stay for the coffee ceremony. Trust me. 🎯 Would I go back? Without a doubt. Again and again. Because this is the heart of Ethiopia. #AbyssiniaYod #AddisAbabaEats #EthiopianCulture #FoodieAdventure #TravelEthiopia #InjeraLove #CoffeeOnSteroids #CulturalVibes #MustVisitAddis #AuthenticExperiences 🌍 If you’re heading to Addis, save this spot — you won’t regret it!

Located in Bole, this is a fantastic tourists place but you also find locals there. They serve traditional Ethiopian food, have a shop for traditional clothes and perform cultural dances every evening from 7pm! Check out Yod Abyssinia when in Addis.

Its a really great place to experience authentic Ethiopian food. The ambience, food quality and service are all on point. The wait staff are good natured with recommending must haves
Khadijah B — Google review
I had a wonderful experience at Yod Abyssinia Traditional Restaurant. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a truly friendly vibe that makes you feel at home. The setup of the restaurant is perfect; beautifully decorated and authentic, which adds so much to the overall experience. The food is absolutely delicious, full of flavor and served in generous portions. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into preparing each dish. The only thing I noticed is that the waiting time for the food was a little longer than expected, but honestly, it was worth the wait once everything arrived. Overall, it’s a fantastic place to enjoy traditional Ethiopian food and culture, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Addis Ababa.
Omer O — Google review
The establishment is a delightful Ethiopian cultural restaurant, offering an authentic and inviting atmosphere. The food and service were truly exceptional, reflecting a high standard of quality and hospitality. Additionally, the cultural band provided a wonderful and enriching experience, further enhancing the overall ambiance. It was a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

Boston Day Spa is a luxurious boutique that offers an indulgent experience, such as their hour-long massage service at an incredibly affordable price. While the surrounding area may not be pristine, with its broken gravel and litter, the spa itself boasts impressive facilities adorned with art and staffed by professionals who create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Visitors often leave feeling rejuvenated and pampered, eager to return for another session of relaxation. However, it's worth noting that some guests have experienced longer wait times during their visits.
Wonderful experience! We went for couple's deep tissue massage for 60mins. The decor, ambiance and setup is so cool, like a crypt in Egypt. The masseuses were extremely skilled and professional, and rooms were very clean. The staff was kind to accommodate us even with a walk-in, no pre-booked appointment. Would love to come again :)
Aarushi K — Google review
I RARELY post poor reviews and I have liked Boston in the past but I couldn’t overlook my most recent experience. I was charged nearly 7000 birr for the worst nail job I have ever seen. The nails looked nothing like the example picture, every single shape and length of nail was different from the other, the ‘hand massage’ lasted approximately 3 seconds, and to top it off, the nail lady was very rude about bringing my baby! Then, to really make things worse within the first 5 days, 3 NAILS came off!!! I stay at home and don’t do any work with my hands, one fell off while eating, one popped off while just laying in bed, and the third I didn’t even see when it came off because they just fall off like that. I will NEVER come here again because this service just isn’t coping up with the price 🫣🥺 Update: 2 more nails have fallen off today just sitting at lunch!!!! ridiculous 😒 This is not acceptable for such a reputable place. This also happened to my friend who I went with. Multiple of her nails were falling off within the first week too.

I’m normally a massage and spa enthusiast, but I just had the best experience so far at Boston Day Spa — A huge thanks to Ms. Azeb for an incredible massage that left me feeling totally relaxed & refreshed. She was so professional & quiet (which I really admired) —she knew what she was doing! Just a tiny note: there was some chatter outside the rooms, and I missed the usual soothing music. I hope the supervisors can help keep the vibe serene. Can’t wait for next time! :)
Kidist M — Google review
Our friends recommended this place to us but when we read the reviews we weren’t sure if we should go. But we are so happy we ended up going! The atmosphere was so calming and the room for the couple massage was really pretty. The massage was really strong and good as well! 10/10 would recommend:)

I had an amazing experience at Boston Day Spa! 💆‍♀️ Semiret always gives the best hair washing and relaxing massage — so professional and kind. Genet is my go-to stylist for color and styling — I constantly get compliments on my hair thanks to her talent! And Mrs. Amelework provides the most comfortable and professional waxing service every single time. These ladies make every visit special — there’s truly no place I’d rather go. Thank you, Boston Day Spa! 🌸
Melik M — Google review
The worse salon ever, no customer care at all though I being there for the last three years but two receptionist who are there on Friday night are not a welcoming people. I will Never be there again and I don’t recommend you to go.
Hanan O — Google review
This underground salon truly wasted my time and money, coming from London my expectations were not high at all but I expected a standard type of quality when it came to the hairdresser’s hair skills not to mention their customer service. If they were unable to do the job then they should have said when I made the booking over the phone. I was initially recommended by a friend but I won’t recommending this place to any of mines. Not kid friendly
K G — Google review
Boston Day Spa used to be the BEST in the whole city — clean, professional, and welcoming. Now? It’s pure trash. The service has gone downhill, and the racism is blatant. Eyerusalem and the staff made it very clear that white tourists come first. I literally watched them skip over me to serve people who just walked in, all because they weren’t Black. It’s sad to see a place that once had such a good name turn into somewhere that makes Black customers feel invisible. They act like our money isn’t good enough, like we don’t deserve the same respect. If you’re white, you’ll probably get treated like royalty. If you’re Black, expect to be ignored and disrespected. I’m beyond done with this place. They’ve fallen off hard, and I will NEVER set foot here again.

Edna Mall

Shopping mall
Edna Mall, located in the trendy Bole Sub-city of Addis Ababa, has been a popular urban shopping and entertainment center since 2008. The area is known for its modern vibe with numerous shopping centers, upscale Ethiopian restaurants, and international dining options. The mall features a cinema, kids' playground, fitness center with swimming and bowling facilities.
The best place you will find new Hollywood movie, The same day when they are released in Hollywood.
Natnael F — Google review
Edna mall is the biggest entertainment destination to spend time with family in Addis. Kids will find the latest games there, and ofcourse adults also enjoy the games. The latest tech cinemas are also fun to watch movies for adults as well. One can also enjoy shopping for clothing, beauty supplies, electronics as well as as other items in the mall. The best cafes and restaurants are also found in the mall.
Redwan J — Google review
As a young person/teen this place would be the spot. Loaded with parents with kids, and a teenage handout would best describe this mall. The only offerings are a large ground floor arcade and a movie theatre that is next to impossible to figure out timings for movies. Even so, the schedule does not dictate the movie showings, is it the attendance of the audience or the projector operator. I have been watch movies there and it fine, but I have also been there at the scheduled time and was told the movie wouldn’t be shown because “there wasn’t anybody”. When I explained I was, the attendant told me “better at home”.
Nick J — Google review
Good place for movies and for kids to play games.
Hilena T — Google review
Plethora of activities to do in the mall. Watch movies, play video games etc. Very fun place for kids. There is also Atm services inside the mall
Joseph N — Google review
This place has the best games for kids, they have 3 cinemas, and one of the cinemas supports 3D. They have also 7D; the place is nice for Entertainment. Friday Saturday and Sunday it is very crowded, there is one F1 care race game with hydraulic simulation and I like it the most. If you are a car race fan you should definitely try it out.
Yared G — Google review
It is good and fun place for kids and adults.. The mall is a good place to shop electronics like mobile and laptops. It has a good enough cinema there are definitely better cinemas now in Addis. Specially with the air-conditioning. It can get hot at times.
Eyouel T — Google review
One of the best places to spend quality time with friends and family. You can also take your children here for the weekend or the weekdays. There are so many games for children of any age(not for infants ofcourse). There are places for shopping, dinning, and watching movies too.

Sapore Restaurant

Italian restaurant
Sapore Restaurant invites you to indulge in a delightful culinary adventure right in the heart of Ethiopia. This charming eatery is a haven for food lovers, particularly those who have a soft spot for lasagna. With its warm and welcoming atmosphere, along with attentive service, Sapore creates an unforgettable dining experience that appeals to both locals and visitors alike. The menu is a vibrant showcase of flavors, where each dish reflects creativity and passion.
I had the privilege of going there 2 times so far, and every time the food did not disappoint. It was flavorful, well seasoned. I actually love their pastas and lasagna. I think it’s the best in the menu, it should be the house special. The place wasn’t crowded, very spacious. My only criticism is it usually take a long time for the food to come out.
Hewan N — Google review
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but unfortunately, the food wasn’t to my taste really. Nothing really stood out flavor wise. The service was just okay nothing special, but nothing terrible either. Overall, a pretty below average experience for me.
Mic J — Google review
Cute little restaurant that serves fresh and delicious lasagna. The food took a while but was definitely worth the wait. The staff are very kind and friendly. The portions are very good, we had takeaway because we were full after having half of our meal. I would 100% recommend the sapore lasagna.
Ashley N — Google review
Great Italian spot in Bole! Sapore “the house of 10 lasagnas” really delivers. Layers are balanced and flavorful, pastas are cooked just right, and the thin, crispy pizzas hit the spot. Service is warm and attentive, prices are fair for the quality, and the vibe works for date night or family dinner. Tip: go a bit early; it gets busy.
Barok L — Google review
We rolled up a bit late and the place was still packed! We actually had to wait for someone to get up just to snag a seat. We were a group of five, so we ordered five main dishes. The wait for the food felt a little long. They brought us some appetizers, but literally right before the mains showed up, which kind of defeated the purpose, lol. Now for the food breakdown: I really enjoyed the chicken pizza and the four cheese pizza, they were a hit. The lasagna was just okay (a bit "meh"), but the chicken Alfredo was unfortunately a miss. It was overcooked and really needed more flavor. Portions were good, though! Overall, it was a decent experience. I'd definitely come back if I was in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip just for it.
Ali W — Google review
I ordered takeout in person on a weekday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't too busy. Only a couple of tables were occupied, but the wait was a bit long. Around 40 minutes. Still, the place had a nice vibe. I got the Sapore Lasagna, and it was really good. I'll definitely be back, either for more takeout or to dine in next time.
Tre S — Google review
The lasagna was fresh and perfectly cooked, with rich, authentic flavors. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. A true gem for Italian cuisine lovers!

Well, I was there for getting a lunch. I really disappointed with their food. I was ordered chicken biryani. It’s not good testing n not you look like what you see in their menu, total different . That would be a good if they remove that kind nasty stuff from their menu, instead of making mad their customers. I couldn’t eat. Anyway I don’t recommend as my experience. They mess up my lunch mood n I just trashed my money

The food is small but it's expensive, the service is especially bad, and when I finished my meal I understood why there was no one inside the restaurant.

Quality of the taste is deteriorating.. Although people are good, service is good, ambience is good, it's difficult to survive if the taste on hygiene is compromised. I hope these things will be addressed before my next trip to Addis.

Fast food restaurant
Restaurant
Grub On is a popular fast food joint in Addis known for its delectable junk food offerings. What sets them apart are their unique selection of sauces, such as the Messy Melt and Cheesy Chunk, which customers rave about. Although some find it pricey at 380 BIRR per burger (excluding drinks), those seeking an authentic Indian burger experience should try the Chilly Hot. The fries, however, received mixed reviews for being overly chewy.
Grub On serves up some juicy burgers. They're definitely on the pricier side, but the restaurant itself is quite visually appealing. It's a nice spot to dine in or conveniently order takeout. Unfortunately, the neighborhood isn't the best, so you might want to stick to delivery or takeout if you're concerned about your surroundings.
Eletta B — Google review
We had the Cheesy chunk and Chilliy Hot burgers. They tasted really good, however the size of the burgers were somewhat smaller than I expected. It’s a self serve restaurant, very clean and nice for taking photos.
Mariem A — Google review
Nice and chill spot. It's self-serve at the counter. Great burgers slightly more expensive but good taste n portion as well. Staff hygiene could be improved. But a nice spot plus music playlist was to my liking. Will definitely revisit.
Tewodros W — Google review
This burger place used to be great, but it’s really gone downhill lately. The burger just doesn’t taste the same anymore horrible taste kind of bland and disappointing. Chips are still fine, but the slow service makes it worse. Sad to see a once good spot lose its touch.
Mic J — Google review
The place is nice and they provide some chicken and beef types of burgers with some drinks and ice cream. Compared to others Burger places I would say the taste is descent. It's self service and also has a window for takeaways which in both cases the service is pretty fast.
Kalid S — Google review
Grub On is one of my favorite junk food places in Addis! What makes them unique is their sauces. I have tried few of them, the “Messy Melt” and the “Cheesy Chunk” are two my favorites. Both 380 BIRR, drinks are not included, I found it expensive. Moreover, if you want to taste how normal burger tastes in India, then try the “Chilly Hot” :) However, to be honest I didn’t like the fries, very chewy. But over all a good spacious place.
Bete A — Google review
It's a real shame what's happened to this place. It used to be my go-to for burgers, a place which I can proudly recommend to others, but lately, it feels like the magic is gone. The quality has really taken a nosedive, especially considering the prices just keep climbing. I remember when their prices were higher than other burger spots, but you didn't mind because the food was worth it. Today, after not ordering for a while, I was honestly shocked at how far the quality has fallen. The patty tasted like it had been sitting in a freezer for ages – they're clearly not using good meat anymore. And that Messy Melt sauce I used to love? Ruined by some overly sweet tomato ketchup. It's just disappointing when a 1,000 birr burger tastes like something you'd get for 200 birr. Like I said, the magic's gone, and I just can't justify going back. Seriously, you're better off heading to Sishu or another place like that.

The food took way too long to arrive, there was tissue and food scraps everywhere and I can’t forgot how dirty the bathroom was. It smelled like there was dead rats in it and not to forget, the food was dry and it tasted like it was heated up by a microwave. I do not recommend coming to this branch.
