I stayed at this hotel as a member of the bridal party for a friend's wedding. At check-in, you are greeted with friendly staff and a cozy, spacious lobby; the lobby is the most sanitary area of the hotel. You are also given a strong smell of chlorine from the pool area quite a ways away from the front desk area (indicative of sanitation/chemical/filtration issues). I was first given a room on the 5th floor. The key reader on the door was non-functional, so I went back and forth from the 5th floor to the lobby twice to try and gain access. This was unsuccessful, and the front desk associate gave me a new room on the second floor.
Upon entry, I noticed that the non-electronic latch lock to the front door was broken, the outlet next to the bed was non-functional, one of the pillows was visibly soiled with accumulated debris (what appeared to be sweat and a brown substance), the furniture in the room was marked with what appeared to be lipstick, the air conditioning unit and floor underneath were soiled with dust and debris, and there appeared to be a brown sticky liquid spilled behind the desk and saturated the floor. I immediately notified the front desk who gave me another room on the 5th floor.
Third time seemed to be the charm, and the room appeared to be in a much better condition than the previous one. Upon further inspection, there were used tissues behind the bed, and there was a used wash cloth in the bath tub. I don't know if this is a housekeeping training issue or the franchisee does not allocate enough time to clean each room, but the lack of attention to detail for obvious sanitation observations is a concern. The body soap bottle in the room was also completely empty, and the hair dryer was missing from the room (the bag to hold it was present).
I also went to use the gym, and the floors were soiled with accumulated dust and debris. The mats were extremely soiled and did not appear to be cleaned at an adequate frequency. Weights were also missing. There was also a broken ceiling tile above the benches adjacent to the ceiling fire alarm.
Finally, I went to the wedding, and provided additional feedback to the manager on my observations and the manager provided me with a full refund for my stay. However, the room was not cleaned, and the refund was the only resolution provided. I arrived back at the hotel at ~11pm, and my key did not work. I was exhausted and had to trek back and forth again to get my keys remade.
Overall, the front desk staff and management were courteous and professional and are a gem to this hotel. However, it is disappointing at the lack of attention to detail to whomever is the most responsible person for health and sanitation; the person with the duty, power, and responsibility to correct, detect, and prevent violations of Wisconsin law and administrative rules. I suggest the franchisee invest more into capital improvements and allocate more resources to health and sanitation at this facility. I wholeheartedly do not recommend this hotel.
