Our stay at this rather unique ryokan, was wonderful, the staff were ever so friendly and helpful. Our tatami room was lovely, featuring two onsen, one outside and one I'm a purpose built building. The food was excellent, far better than we expected. Well worth a visit.
Friendly, welcoming service for visitors doing onsen hopping. Beautiful outdoor bath with option for cold bath as well.
I love our stay here. Our room is equipped with both indoor and the outdoor onsen. And the outdoor onsen is just by the river and falls. It is truly a very natural and the beautiful onsen. There is an also a terrace by and overlooking the river. The entire room is just stunning. Dinner is abundant and luxuriously presented. We are truly amazed. Staff are super friendly and kind with kids. My boys really enjoyed Hozantei.

Hozantei is a traditional Japanese ryokan that offers a unique and wonderful experience to its guests. The staff are friendly and helpful, the tatami rooms feature both indoor and outdoor onsens, the food is excellent with delicious sashimi and top-quality meats, kids amenities are provided, beautiful scenic views can be enjoyed from the rooms, and there are opportunities to feed ducks in the morning and enjoy onsen eggs. The riverside pools are finally open to day trippers after Covid-related closures, with limited hours. Guests appreciate the beautiful grounds, friendly staff who go above and beyond (like sending forgotten items by post), authentic onsen experiences away from touristy areas of Kurokawa, spacious traditional rooms overlooking a river creating a zen atmosphere with private indoor and outdoor onsens available for comfort. While common onsens may be smaller compared to others in town, Hozantei's environment is stunning with koi fish ponds adding to its charm. The ryokan also offers tasty well-presented meals but in generous portions typical of ryokans.
