We had a lovely boat trip around the lake. It’s huge with lots to see and learn about while on our boat trip. We had excellent weather which helped.
Huge lake and you'd love the cruise here as there are very differing sights to see and click. The commentary on the cruise boat is also very informative. We took a sunset cruise and it was just gorgeous! Also, being summer time the weather was very pleasant.
Stunning lake area, first time ive been for 30 years. Very commercial these days, so expect it to be busy and of course pricey. Ariel views from my drone.
Don't miss this place, if you visit or live in the UK! An amazing spot in the North of England! Acceible with train and bus, and appropriate for family and kids.
Amazing views, defo recommend for sightseeing and you can book (both online and in-person) boat trips for you and your family which was so fun and cheap as well!
Had a great day at windermere. If you are ever in the area nearby definitely make the drive to windermere its so beautiful and there is so many shops
Beautiful view. Definitely try boat ride for seenic pics. Great nature feeling. Few different Boat ride depend on distance, we opted for longest one , so it took almost 90 min to complete. Few was amazing but felt little bit bored due to duration. Boat ride was amazing. Literally felt like lost in green nature. Parking options were many.
A must-see area of the Lake District. (The ferry crossing is convenient and would save drivers nearly 45 minutes of traversing to get across the lake.)

Around a 30 min walk to the top with a more accessible route available and gorgeous view at the end. Caught a beautiful sunset as well!
A great place to walk. There's a fantastic view at the top. There's Gruffalo/ Stickman sculptures halfway up the hill. There's also a sculpture trail that wasn't there last time I headed up Orrest Head. We parked in a free layby. The closest ones to Orrest Head have a time limit, but the one a bit further back hasn't a time limit. Great place to visit for families.
This is a hidden gem where you must go if you want to enjoy abundance of natural beauty. After you reach here you get a full 360 degree view of Windermere and the surrounding areas. Very serene and peaceful place. It is around 2 km climb from Windermere, not too steep but not very easy either. Actually there's an accessible road though I won't recommend people on wheel chairs to get here, strollers are ok. We went in the morning before breakfast so there wasn't any crowd. Just one note, the views show up only after you reach the spot, not much to admire on the way. Sharing a few pictures that I clicked here.
This is a really lovely spot. It has spectacular views over Windermere and the hill and mountains. There's a great information board showing what you can see. It's the first hill that Wainwright climbed when he came to the Lake District. There are 2 routes to get to the top, one is steeper and shorter and the other easier and suitable for push chairs.
Orrest Head is such a lovely walk and perfect for families. It’s an easy path from Windermere up through woodland that opens out to a beautiful viewpoint over the lake and surrounding fells. The climb is gentle but the view from the top is amazing, especially on a clear day. We’ve done it a few times now and it’s one of those walks you never get tired of.
Beautiful scenic view of Windermere and the mountains in the distance. Well worth a walk up. Easily accessible. Parking on street at bottle. 30 mins to summit.
Easy to get to from the station, cross the road the sign for the start is there. There are two ways to get up. The red route, which includes steps and the blue route, is an accessible route that allows wheelchairs and buggies. Great view from the top. If you have hay-fever, bring the tissues lol
Fabulous walk. Miles without styles. Great for individuals or families

Such a great place to enjoy a day with kids. What we love the most is the archery. We booked an hour, but could easily spend another hour to two. Need to book in advance. The host Tom has been so helpful, friendly and fun. There is also forest climbing, different height zip lines, bouncing nets and playground for the little ones. Parking is very expensive but that’s almost everywhere in the region. Don’t understand why.
Visited Brockhole on Windermere and had the best time ever! 😍✨ The kayaking experience was amazing — there’s a real sense of freedom as you paddle across the lake surrounded by stunning scenery 🌅⛰️. The water is so peaceful, and you can go at your own pace, which made it really relaxing 🧘‍♂️🚣‍♀️. We also went on a boat ride and the views were just breathtaking — perfect for photos and enjoying nature 🌳📸. After kayaking, we jumped into the lake for a swim 🏊‍♂️💦 — super refreshing on a sunny day! Facilities available: toilets, showers, and lockers made everything convenient 🚿🚻🔒. And a big shoutout to the staff, who were all so friendly and helpful — they made the whole experience even better! 🙌😊 Would 100% recommend for a fun and active day out with family or friends ☀️.
Brockhole on Windermere is a great day out for everyone. There is a large car park with fair prices and the grounds are beautiful to wander around. The play park is brilliant and completely free to use, and there are also extra activities you can pay for such as the tree top adventures or the tree top nets which are great fun for both children and adults. The café is lovely with plenty of seating and friendly staff, perfect for a drink or something to eat while taking in the views across the lake. You can easily spend a full day here as there is so much to do, from relaxing by the water to hopping on a boat or exploring the trails through the gardens. We would definitely recommend a visit here, it has something for everyone and always feels full of life and fresh air.
I hope the new operator is able to make a success of this site with something of value to a range of Lake District visitors. It’s a bit sad to see the state that Brockhole finds itself in now, given its potential. There’s a beautiful art deco mansion, extensive gardens and woodland trails, and the ferry service. Let’s hope arts and exhibitions return as part of the future mix.
Great place to take the kids, massive park and other activities to do there, nice little hidden coves if you just want to get away from everyone and chill by the lake 👌
A bit pricey but really nice staff and a nice place to take children. Children can tree top jumping, tree trekking and zip lining. They also have a nice park with a cafe
Our family had a lovely time over August bank holiday. Recommend booking in advance. We did Treetop adventure and the Kayak tour. Husband and kids really the enjoyed kayak tour and their instructor was brilliant.
Good range of activities for most ages. We did the treetop trek with Zipworld and Go Wild's laser tag with a 12 and 14 year old, and managed to get some enthusiasm out of a teen. Beautiful setting.

A picturesque, peaceful & beautiful lake and a lovely walk around its perimeter. Parking space is available for £5 for 2 hours, maintained by the National Trust.
The climb was a little tough, but it was definitely worth it. The view at the top was really nice, open, quiet, and full of natural beauty. A great place to visit if you enjoy a bit of a walk and love good views.
Beautiful area! Water was refreshing and the atmosphere was lovely! There are fighter jets that practice between the mountains surrounding Rydal water, so that was a cool experience to witness, they’re very low down.
Easy hike from car park to Rydal Cave and edge of the lake. It took about 2hours with plenty of time for admiring views, drinking coffee and singing in the cave. Quite popular and no wonder why.
Gorgeous spot, we come here frequently for walks and a dip in the lake! Definitely recommend!
Lovely walk to the caves. Watch out for the car park you need to pay right away or you get a fine later.
Beautiful lake with great walks around its perimeter, with an impressive slate cave in the hill on its south side. The walk up to the cave and back along the south shore took a couple of hours, spending time to stop and enjoy the views.
Shame you have ti osy for parking when disabled. Pay attention to the route options as it can be a bit tricky under foot, when disabled. Beautiful lake, me and my daughter dipped our toes in the lake and it was lovely and warm. As a lake swimmer myself, I wish I had been better prepared for a dip but never mind, maybe next time. Well worth a visit.

April 15,2025: Beautiful fragrant garden. Well layered and everything is blending in without any gaps. Lots of plant collections. We had a lovely walk. Good spot in between the lake and mountains. See some adorable lambs and sheep’s next door. Very much recommended. Free admission.
Beautiful gardens. The facility is run and maintained by volunteers who were exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. It's worth a visit if you are in the area. There is no set entrance fee, they only ask for a donation. Some of the gardens would not be suitable for wheelchair users or those with mobility issues. Tea and coffee can be purchased for £2 a cup. You are better off pressing "large" which will be a proper cup full (medium gives half a cup). There are lavatories available behind reception.
This is a medium-sized garden nestled among beautiful mountains and nature. It is maintained by knowledgeable volunteers who are passionate about trees. Every section of the garden is well cared for. Since admission is free, the garden welcomes donations from visitors to help support its upkeep. We recommend visiting in the early morning for the best experience.
What a delightful and well maintained garden. Some excellent plant collections and the walled garden is stunning. The glasshouses were super with some excellent alpines which are a personal favourite. Some superb colour in early October still. All volunteer led! ♥️
The garden has variety collection of flowers. Most of them are labeled with names and each collection has a short introduction of the flowers. It was an interesting and educational journey. The staffs were friendly. It’s a little bit far away to walk there from downtown Windermere and most part of the road doesn’t have pedestrian.
Holehird gardens is such a lovely place to visit . It’s built on a hillside but the planting and the views you get there are stunning. It is run by volunteers and their knowledge is amazing they are such lovely helpful people. It’s away from noise and traffic so it’s really peaceful . Can’t recommend it enough. So worth a visit!
Beautiful garden, pots of various collection of plants and flowers, and they sell too. We loved it and our 6 year old, too. It's a charity run garden, so there is no entry fee or parking fee, but you can donate to support them. Beautiful 😍
Peaceful & tranquil . The gardens are feast of beautiful colours, well worth the visit, don't pay to go in, but they do ask you for a donation..

Amazing ride on good ponies with fantastic scenery all the way. Our guides Peter and Hannah were friendly and took good care of us. Easy ride with a bit of trots - highlight of my trip 🥰! There's no reason not to go for a 1 hour trek! Was blessed with perfect weather too.
Visited a few weeks ago as a large group, ranging from two who had never sat on a horse before up to regular riders. As a result experienced both the beginners ride and hour hack between us. We were well looked after and had a fab time despite the weather! The ponies were lovely, quiet and calm looking after our nervous riders perfectly (my new buddy Storm obviously being the best). My son and I did the hour hack, something he had never done before, up on the hills. Again the ponies were just as brill on this ride as they were for the beginners!
Had a wonderful ride today, it's the best way to experience the beautiful views in my opinion, the ride organisers were lovely! The ponies were very well behaved which means you can just relax and enjoy the stunning countryside.
Brilliant! Stunning views. Well looked after, gorgeous and fun ponies. Lovely staff who made the experience great. This trek made my holiday! 🙂
Booked late on Friday 22nd April 2017. Arrived at 2.10. Few instructions later and my grand daughter was ready to go. Her first ever pony trek and it went very well. Everyone was really friendly and a special mention must go to Paris who was absolutely brilliant with Hannah. Would recommend for a couple hours of fun and scenery. Thanks to everyone at Lakeland Pony Trekking for a truly unforgettable afternoon. Regards - a very happy and proud grand dad.
Spent a lovely Sunday morning here with our daughters age 2 & 5 this past weekend. Lovely weather, lovely scenery & very gentle, well behaved ponies. Our eldest was quite nervous for the first 5/10 minutes but the staff did a brilliant job distracting her & chatting to her till she settled in & started enjoying the ride. Would recommend if you’re at Limefitt Park or in the local area.
Even during the rain, It was an absolute treat. Would have elongated the time had the weather been on our side. The staff were friendly and caring. We’ve never ridden a horse (we rode a horse and a pony) before but with clear instruction it was easy to follow. Karen was absolutely lovely, made us feel comfortable and gave plenty of advise and compliments. Will definitely visit again in summer/spring to enjoy the scenic views.
Today I took my 6 year old for a beginners ride and she absolutely loved it. The staff member was really kind friendly and patient and she explained things well to my little girl. We had a lovely time and will definitely be booking again. Thank you very much
